Thinkpad x220 Tablet Multitouch Problems

Question: Thinkpad x220 Tablet Multitouch Problems

Hi I'm having some problems with some of the multitouch commands. For instance the scrolling to the end of the document, when scrolling with 3 fingers and the show open windows thingy with 4 fingers, similar to the mac "active corners". I keep on hitting these effects by mistake when handwritting in files with pdf annotator for example. On top of that, theres an option that logs you of, I haven't figured out the finger combination yet, but it happens a lot. How do I turn of some of the multitouch commands while keeping scrolling with two fingers and turning with two fingers. I only managed to turn of all at once. Or have you managed to link a lot of very different options, so its all or nothing, even though some things are good and some are useless?

Preferred Solution: Thinkpad x220 Tablet Multitouch Problems

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, Several days ago, when I booted my Thinkpad X220 tablet PC from hibernation, its monitor "freaked out": at the beginning it was blinking, afterwards it was just black unless I pressed CTR+ALT+DEL (then it showed pretty much normal screen), however, if I then chose any option or press ESC, the screen became black again. I tried to boot in a safe mode, some other stuff -- nothing worked. Eventually, I connected external monitor, and then the monitor of laptop suddenly recovered. Today I hibernated laptop again (unfortunately). And when I turned it on, the screen "freaked out" again. But at this time nothing, including external monitor, helped. Interesting thing, the internal monitor is able to show lank page in Firefox, however, then the page loads, the monitor becomes black. If I "turn off" blue color, then the monitor is working (however, it is a bit ugly). It is weird as when laptop boosts, the screen is generally blue. Any ideas what is going on with my laptop PC?Cheers, SK

Answer:Monitor problems after hibernation (Thinkpad X220 tablet PC)

I would suggest you to update the monitor driver, display driver and BIOS.

Monitor driver can be download from the mentioned below web link.

This should resolve the issue for you.

After waiting a very long time I just got the Gorllia Glass version of the X220 and am experienceing the same problems that most other people are with the pen/digitizer not being accurate (I have more or less fixed it by downgrading the driver, but its not perfect),  I got this beacuse I was in dire need of a new laptop and also considering a iPad. When I purchased it I did not realize that the multi-touch version had a interface that was similar to the iPad so the multi-touch might be a better fit for me. Out of curioisty is the pen/digitizer  issue better, worse, or the same with the multi-touch screen?  Thank you all in advance for the help -Dan

The main reason why I chose the x220 tablet was for school purpose. Most of my classes are notes you buy from the teacher (40-50$ a booknote) or powerpoints which I have to print out (Around 800 powerpoint pages, 400 papers per class). So thread is a good thread for all the students out there.  I was a big fan of Asus for their good quality hardware and for their EEE pc brand. I had a netbook, with a 10 hours battery life. So battery was my main concern at that time. I was bringing it in the lab and loved it for its small size and long life battery. Then one day, I saw a new product from Asus at CES 2010, the ep121. I was like ?wow, that tablet would be great for school!? I then did some research to find out more about it. That?s where I found the poor 3 hours battery. So I continued my research to find a tablet that would fill in this job. That?s when I found out about lenovos thinkpad tablet. I was impressed about the overall laptops but the x220 tablet stood out? 19 hours battery? I couldn?t find anything better. So I ordered it. For all the students who think 1300$ is expensive, let me tell you this. How much do your texts books cost? From my experience, I spend 1-2 reference book, 3 text book and lots of prints out a semester. My spending would be around 200-300 $ every semester. Right now, with my tablet, I?m not buying or printing anything for school. I borrow my friend?s books, scan them (process that takes haft an hour per text book) a... Read more

Answer:Why I chose thinkpad: x220 tablet

Thanks for the student's perspective. I'm currently waiting for mine and plan on using it in class as well. My previous setup was an SL410 with a Wacom Bamboo, so I can appreciate how awesome it is to cutout the paper from note taking process. I didn't progress quite as far as you with scanning textbooks though... baby steps I guess. As for the Fn key, I read that you can change that in the BIOS. I'm sure someone more computer literate has already outlined exactly how to do this on the X220t. Not sure if the keys themselves are swappable though...?

Hi, Yesterday I bought a used X220 Tablet - the version with Gorilla Glass - and installed Windows 10 Pro (64 bit) on it.What a great little computer this is! But what disappointed me was the lack of precision of the pen that came with the tablet. Unfortunately I could not find a setting - or program - to calibrate the pen. On this forum I learned that a lot of owners have to deal with a pen that is not accurate. On one of the posts I read it was mentioned that the digitizer in the X220 Tablet is made by Wacom, so I went their website for a recent drivers. Luckily, I soon found an appropriate tool, the Wacom Hardware Check, on ftp://ftp.wacom-europe.com/pub/WINDOWS/WacomHardwareCheck.exe . After downloading and running it, I was told:"You have hardware that is compatible with the Wacom FEEL driver. You can download the latest driver here: http://www.wacom.com/feeldriver " The URL led to a file on http://cdn.wacom.com/u/drivers/TabletPC/ISD_DualTouch_732-12.exeThe file is about 24 Mb in size. After downloading and installing it, I was able to calibrate the screen, with 25(!) calibration points. Accuracy is great now; not only in landscape, but also in portrait mode! Since I found no reference on this forum to the Wacom FEEL driver in combination with the X220 Tablet running on Windows 10, I thought it might be interesting to others in this forum. Cheers!

Dear All: I have a thinkpad X220 Tablet which does not have the WWAN 3G/GSM card , and I was looking to get one for it since it has the sim card slot and the antenna .But I remember that my Thinkpad W500 has the WWAN module and since I got the X220 Tablet I do not use that one outside of my house anymore and now it's more a desktop , I thought maybe I could put the WWAN module on the W500 inside the X220 Tablet. I know they both use the same port but I'm not sure if they physical fit and if it's really possible to do so. So if you guys know anything about this please let me know, thank you very much guys.

Yes, but it must be Lenovo branded version of Ericsson F5521gw. It does not support 4G/LTE but 3G/HSPA+ only. Lenovo is refusing to support recent WWAN cards in older models.

Hi, all: I found the touchpad, when the computer is plugged in to an outlet and battery is at 100%, jumpy and it misclicks often. This can be repeatedly demostrated by holding a finger in the middle of the touchpad; while doing so for 3-10 seconds, the mouse cursor would jump around by itself. Note that the issue exists on other regions of the touchpad as well but is less obvious.  My best guess is that this is a hardware voltage related issue as 1. my finger feels the increase in current from the trackpad; 2. the issue is completely gone when the computer is on battery; 3. reinstalling the driver doesn't help; and 4. it has been reported that the touchpad is jumpy when plugged in with a 90w adapter: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/90w-adapter-leads-to-unusable-jumpy-touchpad/t... The system (Product ID: 4294CTO) is competely new (that is, I have received it last Thursday). It has a Core i7 processor, a 65W adapter, one 4GB RAM, and multitouch screen input. Hello, Has anyone tried installation of a sierra wireless MC7750 card on a X220 tablet? I've gotten hold of a MC7750 and intend to install it on my X220 tablet and try it with Verizon 4G network. Thanks,Anand

Answer:Thinkpad X220 Tablet - Installation of sierra wire...

I have not tried it, but I can tell you that most likely it will not work in the default configuration.  Lenovo machines have a whitelist that checks to see if the WWAN card inserted into the machine is regonized and certified.  If the machine doesn't recognize the card it will display an 1804 error.  Since Lenovo doesn't yet sell these cards yet, it's unlikely that this card is on their whitelist. Some people modify their BIOSes to recognize cards that Lenovo hasn't put on their list yet.  I believe you can find such moded BIOSes here: http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Removed-whitelist-removal-Lenovo-ThinkPad-x220-v1-21 or alternatively maybe in the forums in http://www.mydigitallife.info/ There may be newer versions of the BIOS in the same forum, but I haven't checked in a while. I've been waiting for months for Lenovo to support the MC7750, or another LTE card like it.  I've been told by several sales people that "it's right around the corner".  Pretty much hogwash so far.  I haven't gone the step of ordering one of these card yet hoping that Lenovo will officially support it soon.  Please post back though if you do end up moding your bios.  I'm curious to know how well it works.  Also read up on taping pin 20.  Some people say it's necessary in addition to moding the bios. Good luck.

Was about to order the X220 Tablet today when I noticed that ThinkPad protection was not listed on the order screen. According to a rep, 3yr On-site + TPP is $429. This comes out to $333.41 for the TPP and 95.59 for the on-site. Does it make sense to pay that much? The cost of 3YR onsite + TPP on other systems is much lower. It is only 259.00 for the X220 (non-tablet), W520, and T420s. Why is the X220 Tablet TPP so much higher? Do they break that much more often?

Answer:Cost of ThinkPad Protection too high? It is $200 more on X220 tablet vs other TPs.

I called in to Lenovo to purchase this warranty and the product that the rep billed me for was 78Y1652. Since then, I've spoken with several people (mainly because Lenovo manages to screw up orders in every way possible) and none of them have said anything against attatching that item (which is for 3 year onsite + TPP) to my laptop, 4294-CTO. http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?... is the link to the product.. though a few days ago (5/25/11) it was on sale for $201.75.. so if you can hold your breath until another sale then more power to you, however do note that Lenovo requires that if you are purchasing a TPP warranty, that the purchase be made within 90 days of system purchase. Edit: My original sales rep was completely wrong about the warranty. That is NOT a valid part number for a 3 year warranty + thinkpad protection for the x220 tablet. >.>

Hello,I've just bought my new tablet and, overall, I a very impressed with its features. One feature I thought was particularly cool was the fingerprint reader to log on. Sadly, the software didn't come with laptop and, when searching "fingerprint" in Start and scanning over the control panel, it was not there. I have read most of the discussios here concerning my problem, but found no answers and searched everywhere suggested. I then installed the driver from the lenovo site and got as far as the screen with a hand to register one of your fingerprints, clicked the thumb icon and it said that there was no such device detected on my laptop. I was hoping to get it working soon but if I can't find a solution it doesn't matter - It's not absolutely essential/urgent. I was just a little disappointed that the device did not work. Thanks in advance for any help, Doug.

Answer:Fingerprint reader on new thinkpad tablet X220 "not detected"

hey DB-1618,welcome to the forums and for this, could you check at Device Manager and see if the fingerprint device is listed in it? It should be under biometrics.if it is there, uninstall it and then let windows install its generic drivers. restart your unit and reinstall the software which you got from the Lenovo Support Site

Answer:Thinkpad Tablet X220 the upper glass of screen cracked a little

Hi sweetaaronm and welcome to the community,

You're probably going to have to call service to find out how much and how long it will take?  I'd do that anyway, just so you know.  It is going to be expensive.
Is there any computer repair shops locally that you trust?  I'd sit down with the phone book and make some calls.  You're going to have to know which screen you have so you can have them get the right one.

If Lenovo service has the screen in stock, the turnaround for the repair should be pretty fast.

And for that device I paided less than half...I wish that Lenovo provided better service.  Their Service/Support Website page seems to be in a shambles with useless email links and telephone numbers that go to the wrong place.  It's really a shame that a company who supposedly is carrying on the IBM trandition is really such a poor supporter of their customers!  I really feel like I made an expensive mistake in buying the X220T.  Sad!

I have ordered a screen protector for the screen, but in general how durable is the Infinity Glass. I hear more about the Gorilla glass (Outdoor and some Sony Tv's) but not so much about the Infinity option. I have not owned a tablet before and am I do believe that previous generations of "X" series did not have a glass screen? Cheers Tony

Answer:Quality of X220 Multitouch screen

the previous X200/201 series did have the infinity glass option but they were not available in every world region.Regarding durability, they are about the same as the iPad or iPhone glass screen, which means having a screen protector is a good idea.

The X61 Tablet model 7762-54P, sold by Lenovo in Brazil, has multitouch capabilities or not? Multitouch drivers install in Vista Business 32, but it does not work. Thanks A. C Censi

Answer:X61 Tablet Multitouch

Specs don't mention a touch screen after LCD, like mine, but maybe someone from the Lenovo support line can tell you the exact specs on this model.   Pen is more useful anyway.

So, I soon need to know, how to proceed - whether I actually need a new laptop or can continue to use my current one. About 3 months ago my Laptop (Thinkpad X220 with Windows 7) suddenly stopped after a normal boot, short after Windows was running - maybe because of a power issue or a memory failure, I'm not sure what really caused it. Answer:Thinkpad X220 with boot problems and "ME is in rec...

A new CMOS battery would certainly be a cheap fix and is worth a try, but normally if the CMOS batters dies it just will not save the BIOS settings, however, I have heard people who said a dead CMOS battery prevented their system from booting up until they replaced it, and described having no problem with Start >> Shutdown >> Restarts, while turning the system off and back on failed similar to what you describe.    The "Me is in recovery state" is also BIOS related (corruption) so I would follow the advice on replacing the CMOS battery if I were you. If you have a multimeter, you could also check the battery for voltage, which should be 3v DC when new, and any battery reading less the 2v DC probably should be replaced. .     It is very unlikely that RAM is the issue, and I doubt that your system board has gone bad since it was booting intermittently just fine until you left it off for an extended period. Good Luck,

Hi All, I was wondering if anyone experienced this issue.  I installed the ThinkVision LT1421 portable monitor to my ThinkPad X220.  When I do this, Microsoft Office (all applications) crash.  If I un-install the Display Link Core Software, Office works fine.  I attempted this three times with the same results.  Tried running it through the docking station and directly through the usb on the notebook.  Still problems.  Any idea what could be going on? Running Windows 7 Ultimate, Microsoft Office 2013, Visual Studio 2012.  Everything updated.  Bios updated too. Thanks in advance!

I just bought my laptop in March 2012 and I've run into this problem 3 times since then.   All of a sudden, the display will become very bright, oversaturated, for every application that I have open.   The pixel sizes remain the same, and most of the type is legible, but because of the oversaturation, the font is a bit more difficult to read/discern.   I've restarted and that usually takes care of it, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same problem?  I worry given my laptop is new and I had terrible problems with my previous Lenovo ideapad (large vertical white stripes took over my display, obstructing view of whatever application was open). I swore to never by an Ideapad again.   thanks!

Answer:Thinkpad x220 display problems very bright

hi lenovolinda,

Thank you for your post welcome to the community,

Based from my understanding of your post it appears that it could be a configuration issue. You may want to check your Bios version to see if it has been updated the to lates, which is v1.29. Should it is lower than the bios version i have shown over here, i would recommend you update your Bios first to ensure that your system is ruuning all latest drivers and bios.

You can update the bios and all other drivers by hitting the thinkvantage blue key found on the top your keyboard or alternatively you down the drivers from.

I am new to this forum and also a first time Lenovo owner! First of all, I like to thank Bananaman sincerely and some other members for providing invaluable info. and insight re. x200 tablet. I am happy with my x200 tablet so far (ordered in mid Nov. '09 and received one month later), especially because it does have the 2 finger multitouch screen. To help people sort through this ordering/administrative mess, I like to summarize the various methods of identification I have learned from this forum. May you find the real McCoy! 1. On one of the sides of the shipping box, there is a Configuration label listing parts used to build the tablet, there should be something like (Description maybe different in different regions): Part#                        Qty                Description0000044C9488     L1 BASE     121WMFTLEDWXGA0000044C8703     L1 COPT     12.1MFTblWXGA 2. Go to Parts Lookup @ Lenovo Support http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?template=%2Fpartslookup%2FpartsLookup.vm&sites... and enter in the two boxes Model No. (without the trailing "-" & alphabets) and Serial No. These info. are on the shipping box and also on the backside of the notebook. I am trying to use a stylus pen on the multi touch w510 screen but it will not recognize it, there is no response when i touch the screen with the stylus. It works fine when using my fingers. Any ideas how i can get this to work? thanks

Answer:w510 multitouch screen - trying to use tablet stylus pen

I don't have the multi-touch screen, but I'm told that the manual says you should not use a stylus on the screen because it will damage it.  I also believe it does not work because it is a newer type of touch sensor that doesn't use pressure like older touch screens that supported a stylus.

I was experiencing some flakiness with my multitouch screen today where the stylus worked in the the laptop orientation but didn't work in tablet mode. Then, after a reboot, it later worked in tablet mode but not in laptop orientation. Usually, it works in both. I tried un-installing and then re-installing the multitouch drivers at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-67220.html. My reward was a screen that doesn't respond to touch or stylus regardless of whether the computer is in laptop or tablet mode. So, I tried following in the footsteps of my last problem with the X200 tablet and the stylus not working correctly.http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=X_Series_Tablet_ThinkPads&thread.id=3889 where I uninstalled the multitouch driver, installed the Wacom one at (http://www.wacom.com/tabletpc/driver.cfm?CFID=471857&CFTOKEN=20437195) which gave me at least stylus functionality (no multitouch), and then uninstalled the Wacom driver and re-installed the Lenovo multitouch driver. But unfortunately, I still had a a screen that doesn't respond to stylus or touch. So, I went through the uninstall process again hoping that re-installing the Wacom one would at least give me stylus functionality. But now that doesn't seem to work either, and uninstalling the Wacom driver and reinstalling the Lenovo multitouch driver still doesn't do anything either for either touch or stylus. Looking at the control panel, the multitouch driver seem... Read more

I'm wondering if the x200 tablet with the new multitouch (multi-finger input) screen is showing up in the outlet store. If so, how can I tell if the unit I'm look at has this feature? Are there particular model or part numbers to look at? Or some kind of code or other indicator?

Answer:x200 tablet multitouch in the outlet store?

enhanced multitouch panels just hit the market late october.   chances are slim in seeing them in the outlet this soon.

however, if you do see them, they should be labeled "enhanced multitouch" or "touch with two-finger input" (or something along those lines).   any tablets labeled "multitouch" will likely be one-finger touch plus pen input.

The wiring should be there. The manual does not show different cables for machines with webcams. The bezel needs a different cover (sticker). I cannot find that available separately.

Hi everyone, first post here!
My laptop is currently causing me some aggravation regarding fast startup. It is a Lenovo Thinkpad X220 I have upgraded to Windows 8 and then 8.1 and an SSD and up to now has been performing flawlessly.
Recently, with the fast startup option enabled, the computer has been shutting itself off completely after the startup animation and requires the power button pressing again before it will boot up, in 'normal startup' speed.
I have tried disabling and re enabling fast startup, using the 'powercfg -h off' and 'powercfg -h on' commands to recreate the hiberfil.sys file and that's about all I can think of. It still behaves the same, turning itself off completely immediately after the startup animation.
Anyone got any ideas to resolve this?

Answer:Fast startup causing problems - Lenovo Thinkpad X220

Fast startup has worked a couple of times in the meantime - I swapped the wireless card yesterday and reinstalled some drivers to resolve some unrelated issues and it started working again. Yay! I thought - but after the first couple of goes it started doing the same thing again and shutting off after the animation!

Hi, I have here a X220 Tablet that seem to have a FAN problem.Often in the last days my CPU temperature is often over 90 °CAnd the fan has problem to reduce the temperature.I have also situation that the CPU is going too hot and the tablet switch off! The fan speed is 3500-3800 RPMs. Can someone helps me with this issue?

Answer:X220 Tablet FAN Problem - temperature over 90 °C - tablet switch off :(

Hi giciorek,

I understand that your fan/temperature problems can be frustrating.  I would try updating your BIOS and also updating Power Manager.  (Some on the forum have tried downloading ThinkPad Fan Control, but that is not an official Lenovo solution.)

Download Power Manager here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014924

Download BIOS Update here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS018805

In Power Manager, click Advanced at top right, you can Set Optimize Fan Control to Balance All Parameters under Battery Settings.  Set it to Reduce Noise Dynamically under AC.

Let me know if this helps.

Hi all,    I have a really annoying problem...my x220 tablet disconnects from the internet whenever I enter tablet mode. The internet can be working perfectly fine while in non tablet mode but as soon as I switch to tablet mode, my internet disconnects. And if I switch back to non tablet mode from tablet mode, my internet returns almost instantaneously. I can load a page in non tablet mode with no problems, switch to tablet mode and the page stops loading. If I return back to non tablet mode the page resumes loading without so much as a pause or a hiccup. Also, when I switch the computer to tablet mode, wifi networks disappear off of the "available networks" list that were there before the switch.     I've tried everything, from updating network device drivers, reinstalling network device drivers, running diagnostics, reformatting my computer, uninstalling Norton Antivirus, system restoring to days before the last known working date in normal mode and safe mode, and contacting customer support (chat and call, managed to get a hold of a rep) but none of them have worked.    I also used to have a networking log before I reformatted/system reset to factory settings and there were a ton of errors with words like avsc manager failed to "something" ... I'll reinstall the thinkpad network managing program to create another log. Can someone please help me? My last resort is calling lenovo support again to have tech support come to hel... Read more

Hi, I was wondering if anyone would have any idea why my multitouch features stopped working after my system resumes from sleep/hibernation. It basically doesn't detect any multitouch feature but still detects the pen feature (although for the pen, the mouse cursor changes back to the traditional arrowhead rather than the dot that I'm used to). I'm not sure if this is that important but I never had a problem prior to this: I recently swapped out my HDD for a SSD (and is working beautifully). I'm just not sure I have all the drivers although ThinkVantage and other driver updating programs that Lenovo has released says my system is up to date. Thanks for your time,ExC

I just got a X201 Tablet with multitouch (2985-EYU). I saw that that Microsoft Touch Pack for Windows 7 was pre-installed, however when I try to run it I get an error "Multitouch Hardware is not available on your computer." Is this a known issue? Hmm just an update, I had access to another X201 tablet fresh from the factory. I tried running the Microsoft Touch Pack and now it works--no error about multitouch device not detected. So then I tried running it on the original tablet, and now it also works. Kinda strange but I'm not complaining.  At quick glance it's mostly games. And there's a multiouch surface screensaver that mimics water. Pretty neat!

As you might have guessed this is about a screen malfunction. The past few days my tablet has acted very peculiar. First I had problems with onenote, where ink was moved around without any interaction on my part, and now this. Two days ago the screen just showed up as on the pictures and no matter what I did I couldn?t find the cause or any solution. I powered down and turned the tablet on after having waited for a few minutes and just like that the problem was gone. I have had several encounters with the same problem from that moment forward ? and it drives me up the walls :sI haven?t had time to contact Lenovo support, and even if I did then I don?t know how to proceed? So I?m asking here to see if anybody has encountered similar problems or know what may be the cause of said problems. The video where the problem is clearly shown: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epfVEo6iVVw

Answer:X200 Tablet Multiview/Multitouch Screen Malfunction

Problem solved   I still don't know what the cause was, but i suspect that i was software related - the reason why? Easy peasy lemon squeezy! I installed "Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB976264)" and tada: the problem was fixed, no more ugly artifacts on the screen

It's a long story but it ends with the fact that I'm looking to get another X200 Tablet. As much as I liked my first Multitouch Screen X200, I'm considering going with the SuperBright screen this time.I had the Multitouch with W7 running fine but I found that I rarely used touch. The pen just worked better. The incremental price is not an issue; more the quality of use for web and garmin mapsource etc. Could anyone advise about the comparison, eg. short comings of the Superbright screen in a pen-only use?

Answer:X200 Tablet Superbright vs Multitouch Screen advice please

The term Superbright isn't misleading, it makes a difference in sunlight and on more than one occassion our employees recieve complaints and requests to dim their LCD's by flight attendants when traveling on commercial airliners at night because it seems to annoy multile rows of seats behind them that it is impossible to determine just which passenger griped about it. A few of our staffers complain about headaches since they don't remember how they set their LCD to max and dim but one had learned how to use power manger and created a custom proifle to dim the screen when the battery fell to 99% capacity  but was embarrased to ask where the LCD dimmer keys were. After months of usage, our screens remain anecdotally as bright but we haven't used light meters to prove it,,,, some things are venerable including sungligt and these LCD's. Unless you plan lots of outside and sunny usage...you may just become prematurely and unecessarily blinded.

I have just received my new x200 tablet with multi touch and immediately upgraded it to WIndows 7. I can not get the digitizer pen nor finger gestures to work on the screen. This is my first tablet PC and I am bummed to have this issue on the first day. I am no computer wizard so it could be user error all the way. Please tell me i am missing something easy. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:x200 tablet w/ multitouch -- multi touch and digitizer pen not working

Just to cover our bases, have you downloaded and installed the latest drivers for Windows 7? Here's the multitouch drivers:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-73295 And here's all the others for Windows 7, just in case:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?subcategoryind=0&familyind=427841&brandind=10&... Forgive me if you've already done that. Other than drivers, I'm not sure what you can do to troubleshoot it. I know it works in Win 7, since I've read several reviews about the Windows 7 experience on the x200. Seth

The learning curve on this machine is steep if you want to take advantage of all the input options but I've put the time in and I'm starting to love it. There is one thing I wish Lenovo would address though. I see plenty of ThinkPad users with this problem going back to at least 2008, and no solutions forthcoming. The manual states: "On the display bezel near the screen is a row of buttons with which you can control your computer in the tablet mode, without the use of the keyboard."By default the buttons are set to turn your computer off, press CTRL+ALT+DEL, or rotate the screen 90 degrees. The manual goes on to describe how you can customize these buttons via the Tablet Shorcut Menu, which is accessed via Start > Programs > Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools > Tablet Utility. If you open this program you get a dialog box titled "Auto Screen Rotation Settings." This dialog controls what orientation the screen should switch to when you convert into tablet. So it really doesn't have anything to do with the buttons. The only dialog that allows any assignment of the tablet buttons is Windows Control Panel > Tablet PC Settings. Here the Buttons tab is supposed to list the actual buttons on the front panel and let you assign them, but the only one shown is the Screen Rotation button. This works fine, you can set the button's function for a single press and a long press. (Too bad it's not possible to use Shift by itself, but that is as-designed by MS.)It should go without sayi... Hello all, I just purchased a Lenovo X200 Tablet with enhanced multitouch on the 13th of November when they were having the nice employee sale. I customized the X200 enhanced multitouch package and added a whole bunch of features. I got the camera, turbo memory, 4 gigs of ram, fingerprint reader and the works. The only problem is I don't have any touch features (with my hand) at all. It only detects the digitizer pen. I thought maybe they forgot to install the drivers or something so I tried installing the touch drivers from the Lenovo website (my product number is apparently 7448CTO which is not freaking multitouch from reading on the forums). When I try to enable the Touch features it tells me that it did not detect any touchscreen moreover the tablet did not even come with the simpleTap software which had me really puzzled. Why did Lenovo do this to me?? I need it for university and it took really long to come. I really need those touch features not just the pen. Thanks Cal

Answer:TouchPanel Problem, X200 Tablet with enchanced multitouch - NO TOUCH FEATURES AT ALL

Colferns,I've had a x200 tablet multi-touch for a few months.  Just upgraded to win 7 and having problems getting the multitouch to work.  I wonder if the drivers are not working.  BTW, 7448cto refers to the 7448 model, "Configured To Order" - I know, not very helpful. It is strange, since in XP it worked okay (but not great).  I now look at my Control Panel | System and Security | System Setting and I see half way down the window a category called "Pen and  Touch:". I am dismayed to see "Pen and Single Touch Input Available". I hope some one replies soon with the right drivers.

Hello, I am recently going to purchase a labtop (for work) and am undecided between the Lenovo T400 S (multitouch) and the Mac Book Pro. Advantage Thinkpad (previous experience)- My last past 3 laptops are Thinkpad (no defect what so ever)- Reliable & Strong (I saw about 3 months ago my baby girl (2yrs) standing on the labtop, & it still works )- Multiple OS (Windows and Linux) support Advantage MacBook- Sleek design (Beautiful)- MAC OS + Other OS (Windows, Linux, Unix) Compatibility- Presentations style are great Both are very similar in price (MacBook Pro = Thinkpad +200$ )Configuration for both are similar:- solid state drive- WiFi/WiMax- processor very similar MacBook advantage:- wider screen- led screen- bigger solid state drive T400S advantage:- multitouch  Questions:1. Can the T400S support Mac OS? How about Linux (Debian)?2. How strong is the casing compared to MacBook Pro or other Thinkpad?3. Multitouch compatibility with which OS (Windows, Linux, Unix, MacOS)?4. What type of SW works with this multitouch? CAD applications? Google Earth? Office applications? Vi editor?5. Can this labtop (in theory) run all these applications: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89sz8ExZndc ThanksGus

Answer:Thinkpad T400S (multitouch) Vs. MacBook Pro

Another HUGE diference is the graphics card Apple: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 256MB Lenovo + IBM: Intel GMA 4500MHD How does add up? Which one should I buy & why? ThanksGus

I recently used System Update to install "ThinkPad MultiTouch Driver 7.0.2.29" on my X61 tablet running Win7, 64-bit. It replaced the "Wacom Serial Pen Tablet" 6.1.7600.16385 device with "Wacom Penabled MiniDriver" 3.1.1.3. As a result, the inking in MS OneNote has been seriously affected. The left image is with the MultiTouch Driver, and the right is with the previous Wacom Serial Pen Tablet. I can roll back the driver to the Wacom Serial Pen Tablet driver and restore the smooth inking. The problem is that if I do this and thenI try to calibrate the pen, I get the message "a supported tablet was not found on the system." Obviously the "upgrade" to the MultiTouch Driver has made other changes besides replacing  Wacom Serial Pen Tablet. How can I roll back the changes caused by the MultiTouch Driver? What other drivers must I change or disable?

Answer:ThinkPad MultiTouch Driver degraded inking in OneNote

I've made some additional progress. I uninstalled "ISD Tablet" version 7.0.2-29 in the Add/Remove control panel, and that now allows me to calibrate the pen AND have high quality inking in OneNote. I've been searching for Wacom Serial Pen Tablet 6.1.7600.16385 online so I can have a backup in case of a future reoccurrence where rolling back the driver doesn't work. I can't seem to find it on the Lenovo site or anywhere else. Can anyone assist me in finding it?

Dear all, would like to inquire if X220 will operate with two external monitor? I'm ok to close the lid of my X220.The 4337 docks support VGA and DVI, will both work together? What's working:- I have been using x220 screen with another external monitor through VGA connection.- Connecting Dell 2340L direct to VGA works with X220 screen, not with 2 external monitor. What's not working:- Recently got a Dell 2340L which contains only VGA and HDMI, which I thought HDMI would work with an adaptor (HDMI to DVI) port - no response although the Windows 7 detects external monitor display.

Hello,The laptop in question will not charge with the above mentioned dock when it previously did. If you shut down the mahcine and turn it back on when docked it works, but after this point if undocked and docked again it seems to lose it's ability to charge via the dock giving the "plugged in but not charging" message on the power system icon from the taskbar. As it stands the laptop can be charged by the AC port on the back and as mentioned when given a power cycle on the dock. The above issue happens on several docks with different power supplies. The laptop is no longer in warranty and it is possible to get this sent back and repaired (paying for the service) if that is an option. This is greatly inconvenient for the user affected and is causing disruption daily.

No, that sleeve will not fit the X220.You would want this one, ThinkPad X61/X60 Tablet Sleeve Part number: 41U3142. Here it is again from Amazon, X61 tablet sleeve at amazon. Keep in mind that sleeve will have to be taken off when ever you are using your tablet in Laptop mode.I only use a sleeve when transporting tablet, and it mostly comes down to personal preference.Hope you find something you like.

hi guys i really want to try a windows 8 tablet and i plan to buy it either by the end of this month or by next January. I am confused on what to pick though
First of all, the reason why I want a windows 8 tablet IS because i like the interface. but more importantly, i need metatrader and cTrader in legacy app as im a full time forex trader. I have metatrader in my iphone but you cant seriously compare that with the windows version (no tabbing, no lines drawing, no fibonacci, etc.). cTrader doesnt even exist there.
im looking to replace my macbook pro (which btw i also installed windows 8 on it through parallels virtual desktop) with a windows 8 tablet to support my trading while im outside
So basically I dont need a super i7 tablet or something. However, im curious to know how windows 8 atom tablets perform. I have seen enough reviews and some people says atom tablets perform badly in legacy apps. Question is, how bad is that bad? Does it lag so bad even though i dont need to run heavy apps like adobe? I only need to run these trading apps which btw are very light. You can compare them with MS paint i believe, just with constant connection.
would it do well in atom tablets? I dont want lags when i switch from win8 native apps to metatrader and cTrader.
next question - how does windows 8 tablet on-screen keyboard work with legacy apps? Would i have special gesture to show up the on-screen keyboard or it automatically appears when i touch the screen? I personally dont believe ... Read more

Will Lenovo update its drivers to allow multi touch capability to the Thinkpad W500 (and all Thinkpad models!) touchpads?  It would be nice to be able to have back/forward gestures with finger swipes, zoom in/out with pinch gestures, rotating, etc etc.  Has anyone done this successfully with a driver set, and still retain TrackPoint capability?

Question: x220 tablet DOA.

So. I ended up, after about a month and a half of lurking on forums and reading reviews, purchasing an X220t with most of the bells and whistles, along with an extended next day onsite warrranty, extra pen, etc. I track it all the way from China on the UPS site every three hours. It has been an unhealthy obsession. And it arrived in the mail. Dead. Won't work. Won't boot. DOA (mostly. several indicator lights flash a bit, but I don't hear a HD, fans spinning, or screen turning on.)  I've talked with tech support (who did what they could [Nice people!]) but they were unable to get any immediate help or provide any advice beyond 'we'll call you'.Also, they couldn't find verification that I had a warranty for awhile. My concern is that this is for college, and I'll be going to school on the other end of the country (Colorado School of Mines!). And I'll be leaving shortly, and work has left me short on time, etc. So, how common is this? Should I try to get my money back and just buy a Fujitsu tablet, or something else from a retailer? There is always bragging about thinkpads being so tough, and mine is dead after a ride through UPS via Worldport. ( I know... could be any number of components that were dead to begin with, etc.) Are they just crap? I'm trying to keep it cool, but I just spent a whole lot of money, including on a warranty which is generally just gravy for most companies, and I've recieved a very pretty lump of plastic (again, I'm not an ent... Answer:x220 tablet DOA.

Sideburns, welcome to the forum,

I'm sorry to read about your experience, something like this must be a huge disappointment after having waited eagerly for the arrival of your new ThinkPad.

So far you seem to have handled the situation correctly and would ask you to take a look at this post in our FAQs; Mark's Advice About DOA systems.

I personally feel that in your situation, due to the time limitations you mention, the quickest route for you to persue would be with support and having the system repaired. Yes you have stong arguments to ask for a refund or an exchange system, but these could potentially take longer to realise than having the system repaired.

As to your question to how common this is; in my experience it's not at all common. I personally have been selling Think products for over 11 years and can count on one hand the number of systems I have seen which were literally DOA.

[$0.00]
12.5" HD Multi WW 3x3 No Camera
Selecting this option may delay your shipment more than 4 weeks. Why even release a model when both screen options are delayed more than four weeks? It's a phantom launch. No real product is available. I first checked this an hour or two after "launch" so it's always been like this. This is rediculous and is just a cash grab with the idea "see! it's available, please don't give your money to another company". Don't release products you can't ship. Don't release products before every major option is available, i.e., Gorilla Glass, i5, i7 processors...

Answer:The x220 Tablet is not available

It's interesting that apparently the Canadian site actually tells you in advance that there will be a 4+ week delay. On the US site, none of the options have notices saying they may cause delays. The order says "ships in 8-12 business days" all the way up until you check out, at which point it changes to "estimated ship date" in 5+ weeks (5/27/11).

Okay, for reference I've definately read the forums regarding the multi-touch versus dual touch terminology confusion (and in my mind a terrible misnomer). I placed my order on the 21st of October through the Canadian store linked from the x200 tablet features page regarding the enhanced mutli touch option. The model selected was the best of everything through the whole process.

The price went down the next day, so I called, cancelled my order, and reordered with the lower price. I received the first order anyway, so I called lenovo again today and they were quite helpful in getting the price adjusted (the specs were identicle besides windows 7 being preinstalled, but I have academic licenses anyway).

So I just finished wiping the preinstalled vista, installing windows 7 and all the drivers, and wanted to try out simpletap.

And I don't have multi touch. At least not as far as I can tell. Model number is 7448-CTO, Sn is xxxxxxxxxx right from the box beside me. I just called lenovo support and they can't even find the serial number, and asked me to call the sales people back monday.

So am I an idiot and just miss a driver? Am I an idiot and somehow manage to order the top of the line system and miss the option? I can't even list off my options as chosen from the packing slip, as it nor my emails list the options I've chosen.

I'm a little annoyed to say the least.

Note from Moderator:  Serial number removed for your protection.

Answer:X200t ordered with multitouch lacking multitouch

One question.Did you order multitouch and expected two fingers multitouch? Or the multiouch for use with pen and finger?if you ordered the first one, Lenovo have been using the multitouch expression for pen/finger option a while. But now the "multitouch" are synonymous with the two finger option for most people. Might not give you the right answer, just a thought.I hope things settle out for you. Axel
