I lose wifi when putting my X220t in tablet mode

Question: I lose wifi when putting my X220t in tablet mode

This is driving me absolute nuts. Whenever I switch to tablet mode it seems the wifi antenna powers down despite the system showing it's still pwered on. Any idea on how to fix this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Simple touch provides that functionality. It's the little red dot on the corner of your screen. It can also be activated by using two fingers to tap the screen twice. In my experience the double tap must be smooth and not too fast or it wont be reconginized. Hope that helps!

Hi. I've had my X220t for 2 months now, and I've realized that the internet connection gets really bad when the computer is folded, in tablet mode. When I'm at work, the drop in connection quality is so bad that I just can't use the internet at all... Does anyone have the same problem? Is there a good fix to that? Thanks!

Answer:X220T - Bad internet connection when in tablet mode

Look at your Power settings (Windows' one, not Lenovo's) -> Edit current plan setting ->advanced setting ->Wireless Adapter Setting -> set something else than "maximum power saving".

How do I disable the portrait mode?  Since the upgrade to Windows 8, I downloaded and installed every new driver.  One of them has gotten it working so that I can swivel the screen and convert to tablet orientation, but I want it to switch only to inverted landscape (without having to press the button to change it). I've already set the "Choose the order in which your screen rotates" setting to ONLY be the two landscape modes.  This works for the button, but whichever Lenovo driver supports the screen orientation change when the hinge is rotated is ignoring these settings.

Answer:x220t - Converting to tablet mode goes to portrait

Alright, this problem is solved. Launching the "Tablet Shortcut Menu" from the Windows 8 start screen does not work.  This application has a bizarre behavior I've really not seen occur in other applications.  When anything other than it gains focus from Windows, it kills itself.  So, the new start screen in Windows 8 launches this application and then gives focus back to the desktop so as to make the application visible.  This causes the app to kill itself before a user can ever see it!  Dear Lenovo, please fix this.  It is silly.  Just let the app stay up on the screen until closed like any other app. The workaround: Right click the shortcut to "Tablet Shortcut Menu" and click "Open File Location" from the menu at the bottom of the screen.  Double-click the shortcut from the folder that pops up in Windows desktop mode. Alternately, run the executable directly.  For my PC it's located at: "C:\Program Files (x86)\ThinkPad\Tablet Shortcut\LENTBCTL.exe" Now, to change the auto-rotate setting I was after: Click Settings.  Under the Auto Screen Rotation subheading (which should be checked) I had to select "Secondary Landscape."  Voila, no more portrait mode switch when the screen is swiveled to tablet mode - it goes to secondary landscape (180 degrees rotated).

I've got an X220t, yet I figure this question might be useful for anyone using their laptop as a tablet.

With the laptop in tablet mode, access to the physical keyboard is obstructed. This means there is no direct access to the volume controls, wireless toggle switches, display brightness controls, etc. Though the screen sports 3 buttons, I can only remap 1 of them (screen orientation) even though I never use the native functions of the other two (power and CTRL+ALT+DEL apparently).

I'd recommend Lenovo to put some of those controls on the screen itself, so they are available in both laptop and tablet mode. However, that doesn't help me now, with the current models.

So, I'm looking into ways to either install some gesture-based applications that allow for access to these functionalities (i.e. like SimpleTap, but offering single-fire access to functionality, regardless of the active application window). Or, more likely, I will end up with specific USB-based HID controllers to get the job done.

So, when in tablet mode, and while running a fullscreen application (i.e. game), I want to be able to adjust the overall sound volume, switch to the desktop or change the display brightness. Does anyone happen to have a neat solution to this? Perhaps you have some experience with small usb-based addon modules (i.e. the Shuttle Express or the USB Volume Controller) that help in the lack of hardware controls when in tablet mode? Perhaps even Exploiting the Compa... Read more

I would very much like to know to answer to that as well.  I have upgraded from X61T and I am missing a lot Navi 4 way controller in X220T.  I have found it incredibly useful when editing PDFs with my X61T for scrolling pages. Unfortunately, two finger touch is not particularly useful here and flicks are useless there.I was wondering whether it would be possible to remap X220T bezel buttons for ScrollUP and ScrollDOWN? I have absolutely no use for POWER and LOCK buttons and it appears those are precisely the buttons that you can't remap with Lenovo tablet PC settings utility.

Basically the tablet has no awareness of what position its screen is in unlike in windows 7. I can't get the tablet to automatically switch screen orientation when I switch to tablet mode which necessitates the tablet button, which is a minor inconvenience. A major inconvenience though is the trackpoint doesn't disable in tablet mode, and the twisting action of the screen makes onenote switch between pen and mouse input a few hundred times a second when I'm hovering, which can result in some very weird things. I have up to date ultranav drivers etc. Lenovo doesn't seem to offer a multitouch driver for windows 8 which seems to be the culprit here. Are there any solutions to this?

Hi all i have a strange problem with the pen in tablet mode and was wondering if there is a solution. I have a X220t with both finger and pen touch. After reinstalling Win7 64 bit (needed the Enterprise version) the pen just stays in primary landscape mode, or something. That means in portrait modeor secondary landscape mode the pen cursor moves as if you where still in primary landscape mode essentially mirroring the cursor movement 90 or a 180 degrees. Did anyone of you came across this behaviour and now a fix to that?I tries resetting the calibration and re-calibratin, but it didn't help Finger touch is fine, its only the pen (wacom) that is strange. Thanks in advanceRobert

Answer:Pen tracking doesn't detect tablet mode (X220t)

I have the same issue, but only when I install "Wacom Pen Driver" (from here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-77280.html). It seems like that driver doesn't detect screen orientation properly. If I remove it, all screen orientations work fine (pen also works fine, so I don't even see what this driver is for). What I've done is I removed all pen/touch devices from device manager and also unistalled the "ISD Tablet" program to get rid of that driver. After that I installed "Enhanced Multitouch Driver" which seems like a newer version of Wacom Pen Driver, that understands screen orientation correctly. Also, pen and touch work fine for me even without any drivers at all.

Does anyone have a problem with the pen while in tablet mode after updating drivers? First, I've been using the pen in tablet mode for awhile now and it worked fine. However, after a recent update, there seem to be a glitch in how the tablet recognizes the pen.  For example, if i am writing in pen mode and want to move to the selection tabs in OneNote, it will not change to the selection tool but stay in the pen.  Therefore, I cannot access the menu at all.  In addition, I cannot close OneNote either.  The only way for me to fix this is switching between windows (from OneNote to a web browser and back to OneNote).  This is a hindrance when taking notes.  I had restarted my tablet a couple times but it did help.  Also, I don't know if this is the tablet's fault or my eyes, but sometimes the the color of of the windows (like chrome or OneNote) seem a little washed out and not as dark as it suppose to be. But then the color return to normal once I use it for a few minutes.  Here are the drivers i recently installed via ThinkVantage System Update-Windows 7 Update Module KB2482122 64bit-Intel GT1/GT2 Display Driver-ThinkPad Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software for Vista/win7-Lenovo Autolock Should I restore my previous drivers (if so, how)?  Thanks

Answer:Problem with annotation in tablet mode after drivers update of x220t

I have the same drivers installed you have, and I do not have the pen problems you describe. I do have the same  poor pen calibration that many others have reported. I did experience the "washed out" look you describe after installing the Intel Display Update. Go to the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel, select "Power" in the left-hand pane, change the pull-down menu in the upper right to "On battery," and uncheck the "Display Power Savings Technology." This feature seems to have become a default in the update, and it is the thing responsible for the washed out look. -pierce

Hi there, when I put my X220T in tablet mode, the screen moves just enough to move the pointing stick in the middle of the keyboard to cause the cursor to move. I can't rest my hand on the screen without causing the cursor to move all the way accross the screen. Am I missing a driver that would disable the nub when the screen is turned over it, or is this a design oversight? I've got the latest BIOS. Cheers,Kimmo

title says it. every time I turn on the computer, my wifi is always there. when I come back from sleep mode, it is not. no wifi options are available in the network section.

it is not signal strength. I had a slight USB issue, but as I said, I always get wifi when I turn it on, so seems any USB issue would show up when I boot either way..

any idea why this is? is the power surge to the USB ports the same whether you boot from off versus from sleep? is coming back from sleep different somehow than powering up from off?

thanks.

I've seen some other postings about this but haven't found a solution anywhere.  I have a new X230T with Intel Centrino Advanced N 6205 Wireless card and the 2x2 antenna display with webcam.  WiFi works great in laptop mode but as soon as I fold the screen down into tablet mode the wifi signal cuts out.  I can sometimes get it to reconnect but it will drop packets like crazy and is unable to load any web pages.  This behavior happens in both Win 7 & 8.  Pretty sure this is a design flaw or physical defect.  Anyone else having this problem and found a solution? As is it makes the internet completely unusable in tablet mode which is a deal breaker.  This combined with the crappy touchpad is making me strongly consider returning this and getting a Fujitsu which is a shame since I really like the other aspect of the laptop.

Answer:X230T WiFi unusable in tablet mode

Hey there mgrharry,

I have found some useful information over on this thread: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-Tablet-ThinkPad-Laptops/X230t-Wireless-Issues/td-p/779321. I was uncertain if you had read over it, as you mentioned that you had viewed a few threads before posting.

achim19890 notes "There is also the requirement of the WPA2 security to use the full speed of a wireless n connection (This seems to be specified in the IEEE 802.11n), so make sure you are using this kind of security with your connection to your router." So this may be worthwhile to check on.

Additionally, if you will make sure that you Wireless Adapter's driver is up to date. Hopefully this provides some insight and can perhaps alleviate the issues you are having in tablet mode.

When my x230 tablet is in tablet mode, the strength of the wifi signal is greatly decreased and packets get dropped left and right resulting in a very poor experience with anything that uses the connection. I have the 3x3 antenna (multitouch) and Centrino Wireless-N 2200 (2x2 BGN) wireless adapter. My driver version is 15.6.1.6 with a date of 2013-02-21.

Answer:x230t: WiFi in tablet mode is very unreliable and slow.

Someone correct me if I'm worng but I beleive that: The antenna on this and most laptops is behind the screen. In Tablet mode the antenna rest between the keyboard and the screen so signal strenght is going to be lower that when you are in laptop mode.

So I've got a weird problem...Whenever I have my Yoga flipped into tablet mode, my wifi adapter doesn't seem to work. It either can't find a connection or whatever it can connect to is a "limited connection" which of course means "no internet"It works in presentation and tent mode, and it even works if I'm holding it upside down in laptop mode. It's more of an inconvienience than anything else since I don't normally use the internet in tablet mode but it would be nice to find a fix for it.

I was wondering if there's any way to wake a Windows tablet/PC connected to a wifi network in Connected Standby mode via wifi? Wake on LAN doesn't seem to work with connected standby (and wifi). We know that while in connected standby, apps can receive notifications and perform certain actions. Is it possible to create an app to wake the PC from connected standby?

Answer:Any way to wake a Windows tablet/PC from Connected Standby mode via wifi?

Depends on the NIC driver. Some of them you can go into is properties and disable "allow to power off" either in the NIC properties, or in the advanced power settings. If left on, then you can use wake on lan.

HiI purchased the Lenovo 20cd000muk thinkpad yoga (or s1 in some countries).I noted that in tablet mode, the wi-fi connection get lost, the wi-fi disabled, and it is not possibleto scan the network or connect the device. So I have no wi-fi in tablet mode, but in laptop mode everything works fine, with no issues. From Lenovo datasheets I had noticed that the wi-fi antennas are in the rear of the display, and I've read in other threads about x220 and other products that the problem (in tablet mode) have no solution,i.e. it's like a manufacture problem. Now, I ask all this model owners, and the administrators or technicians: can you confirm that this aproblem related with this specific model, or your thinkpads yoga 20cd can connect normallyin tablet mode?Is there a possible solution? Thank you for your help.

Some issues i'm having using Windows 8.1 on a Lenovo x220t. Still having problems with the intel hd 3000.  Need to uninstall the display driver before each restart for the touch screen to work properly.  On phone, Lenovo said they would get back to be about this but haven't heard back. When I put the laptop to sleep, after a few minutes of sleeping, it hibernates.  So, when i'm on the go and try to wake the tablet out of sleep, it takes about a minute for it to start up.  Has anyone found a solution for this?Would be nice if there was a screen rotation lock from the charms bar.  There is a youtube for getting screen auto rotation working, and works fine, but missing the lock button that is usually about the brightness setting. Can't get the hotkeys working on the lenovo keyboard.  Not too much  of a problem as it can all be accessed via the charms (if touch is working!)Apart from this, it works pretty well with win 8.1.

I have a X220T. And I am thinking to buy a ThinkPad Tablet android too. But I am not sure if it will add anything in my life. I have a lot of windows application in my computer, I am a programmer. And read and write a PDF a lot. And I don't like the idea to carry two hardware with me (X220T and ThinkPad Tablet). The ThinkPad Tablet is good, light, camera, battery life. But I am not sure if it worth buying one, since I have the X220T. I am not sure if it is really necessary.

Answer:X220T vs. ThinkPad Tablet.

This is largely a question of preference.  If you value weight and battery life over functionality then the thinkpad tablet is a good investment.  If you however, value performance, ability, and sheer functionality above weight and size, then the thinkpad tablet is a waste of money.  The x220t can be made to last battery wise just as long (and longer) than the thinkpad tablet. It is a beast in comparison spec wise to the tablet. It's keyboard is a dream, and the wacom implementation is superior in most aspects to the n-trig used on the thinkpad tablet.  If it was up to me, I wouldn't even look at the thinkpad tablet.  That said I love the way the thinkpad tablet looks. If they stuff x86/x64 guts in there, I would be the first in line to buy it.

Hi, I have an X220T tablet. however, few days ago I had a problem with screen. Laptop Boots up normally but I dont have any display on the screen. Weirdly, the digitizer works well when hovering on the screen with the poiinter only visiible on the external monitor. I tried disconnecting all power supply (battery and AC adaptor) then holding the power button several times, still not working. Also tried flashing light directly to the screen, still nothing is visible.. Need advise.

Answer:X220T Tablet Powers on but no display

I would need to see it to determine whether the panel itself has just failed or the backlight is out.  It is an LED backlight so there is no bulb to break. It is possible to blow a fuse on the motherboard, but that is unlikely unless something happened at the time it went out, The fuses on that mode (all newer tablets) l are VERY fast burning, so you can blow them. Unfortunately, Lenovo doesn't replace fuses, so if the motherboard or the panel has failed, you are looking at a very expensive repair. Do you still have a warranty? There is one cheaper thing that could break and cause your symptoms. There is normally a magnetic switch that turns off the backlight when the screen is closed. That could break, although I have never seen one go out. I cannot be more specific. I have never examined that motherboard to find the fuses. Also, I don't know where the lid switch is located. If I were looking at, I would first try swapping a panel. It would provide lots of info and it is the only part I have in stock.

I have a lenovo x220t with win 7 home premium and have had it for close to three years. Recently when using the wacom pen the tablet pc input panel has become unmoveable. The panel appears if I hover the pen over the screen and when I click on the panel is slides onto the screen but when I try to use the pen to move the panel around the screen it will not move. Now if I use the touchpad mouse I can move the panel but that defeats the purpose of the input pannel. Usually if I restart the computer it will reset what ever problems I've had with it but for some reason this is not working. Does anyone know if there is a fix for this problem.

No, the integrated intel HD graphics is on the same die as your CPU. You cannot replace it. There are some who use ViDock to connect an external graphics card though pci-e slot, but it's kind of messy in my opinion.

Hi guys.. Long time no see.. I have a problem with my x220t and need help for somebody who knows hardware side of the things on these laptops.. Here is a puzzle: So basically, my screen was flickering for very long time, it would start randomly and pressing a area around LCD cable connector or rotating the screen would cure it. I would usually put something between connector of cable and keyboard like a piece of thick paper or plastic and it would work as a temporary solution for over a year.. Problem got a bit irritating and I figured cable is not expensive so I should order and replace it. First ordered wrong cable from normal X220 without noticing. Cable is physically the same but doesn't have 3rd wire branching for camera. I connected it anyway because it fits into connectors but laptop doesn't start at all. When disconnecting the cable laptop starts.. At this point I've already completely destroyed my old cable , it just fell apart , wires seperated from connector etc.. So I ordered exact same cable on ebay by same number... All of the cables on ebay by that number say they are for x220t x230t etc. and look the same.. When cable arrived I hooked it up and laptop starts, but no screen at all.. By looking closely into the screen I could see backlight working but it seemed weaker , by pressing fn+ brightness + it would get stronger but it seemed weaker than usual, but can't say for sure because I was outside on a daylight( covered screen though) .. By pointin... Read more

Since upgrading to Windows 10, I lose use of my Monoprice pen & tablet fairly often after a system restart.

Generally this if fixed by unplugging my tablet from the upper system USB port: I get use of the pen back when I plug it back in. But this is annoying since it seems that I need to restart my system every other day with Windows 10, for one reason or another...

I don't know if this a USB issue or a tablet issue, but there are no new device drivers from Monoprice for Windows 10, so no help there. I found a thread about replacing Intel USB drivers with standard ones, but the original problem seemed different, and the example showed Intel 6 Series USB, whereas mine are 8 Series.

So not sure if makes sense to try that solution :-)

Hi, whenever I fold the keyboard part of my laptop under the screen, and the touchpad and keyboard are disabled, i.e. tablet mode, my wifi connectivity weakens.  Using the Wifi Analyzer app, my strength of signal is shown as -36 dBm or so when I'm using the laptop as one normally would, with the keyboard in front of the screen.  But when I flip the keyboard under, I can watch the signal drop in the app, down to -77 dBm.  This occurs when I'm standing next to my router, and no matter what orientation I place the computer (away from my body, upsdie down, right next to the router, etc.); the signal strength remains in the weakened state.  When I flip the keyboard back to normal "laptop mode," the signal suddenly increases again to around -36 dBm.
My guess is that something is happening with the power; maybe the wireless card gets less power, for some reason, when I fold the keyboard under.  I have tried updating the wireless driver and the Quickset software.  I've also checked the power settings, and the wireless is getting "maximum power."  Finally, I've unticked the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" box in Device Manager for the wireless.  None of these seem to make a difference.
Any thoughts on what is happening and/or how to fix this?
Many thanks.

Does anyone know how to turn off the notifications that pop up in the upper right corner telling you that you have just changed from one configuration to another -- e.g. changing from tent mode to tablet mode?

Hi everyone, I've owned my X220t for a year now and the past two months I've noticed such terrible Wi-Fi performance that I can barely use the computer without a wired connection. I've since purchasing gone off to medical school and am running into issue after issue with my unit! I have the screen bleed in and bright spot issue (which I think has been recalled?), The palmrest has cracked down the center from my palms "resting" on the thing. The little plastic tabs that hold the hinge in place along the side have all fallen out, the hinge doesn't quite sit right, the Bluetooth hasn't worked since I got it and for being a Core-i7 machine with 16gb of ram, it doesn't fly quite as fast as I'd have hoped. BUT I can deal with all of those situations because for the most part it tends to just work like I need it and right now I can't be a day without my laptop. Some day I'll get the screen and bt fixed (I have an extended warranty) but the Wi-Fi is driving me crazy! I can't do half of my work without the internet and it is as slow as a dialup, let me rephrase more like a 2000 baud connection! I have my Galaxy S3 cell phone next to my computer on the same network and speedtest tells me 25-35mbps while my thinkpad gets 300k-700k if I'm lucky! Now, I know I have Intel Wifi Link 1000 which (had I known at purchase) I would have never bought, but I just chose Thinkpad Wi-Fi because it didn't mention it was a 1000. I've tweaked all the settings I could, and I disabled Wirel... Read more

Answer:X220T Wifi performance horrendous!

Something isn't right. I would request an RMA for correction. The X220t that I have is easily the best wifi laptop tablet I've seen. I get signals that are so far away my cellphones and other laptops don't even show them on the map. I've tested it with a droid X, lumia 710, multiple laptops, iphone, and nokia e5. The x220t card I have in there is just absurdly good. NOW, understand, if it's in tablet rotation, you do hamper the reception. It's still pretty good, but you're basically shoving the antenna into the body of electronics. You could use an external USB wifi adapter that has an external antenna to counter this, when needed. They cost about $25 for one that works quite well. I'm using the 3-antenna Intel version (no webcam), and it's easily better than every macbookpro user I see on campus, and it just devours signals. I'm assuming you made sure to put the power saving mode of the wifi to "maximum performance"? The Lenovo power manager is handy if you want simple, but if you want speed, remove it completely and set up the power mode so that it doesn't throttle the wifi. Beyond that, something is physically wrong, and you need to get it fixed. I can't find a laptop that can compete with my signal yet. Speeds, maybe, but not strength. It's possible that the antenna leads aren't connected properly, or the card needs to be replaced. If you have the tri-antenna version, and tri-antenna card, there shouldn't be anyone else on campus getting... Read more

Hi all, I have recently upgraded to windows 7 (64bit) and now when I  put my tablet into tablet mode, the screen doesn't autorotate and none of the tablet buttons work. In order to rotate the screen I have to right click on the desktop and choose graphic properties/rotation.Interestingly if I press the tablet buttons while in tablet mode and then rotate the screen up to notepad mode within a few seconds the button will perform its function (rotate screen, activate tablet shortcut menu, etc). Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I've tried running system update (4.0) to no avail. Cheers

I have a Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph that works without problems aside from the fact that, when I undock it from the keyboard, it doesn't detect that it should now be in Tablet Mode. I have to manually go to the Action Center and toggle it there. Same with docking it back. I have already checked my settings and I didn't disable Tablet Mode either.

Anyone have an idea how I can resolve this? I just want to seamlessly dock and undock the tablet and it should switch to tablet or desktop mode respectively.

I don't know if it's relevant but the OS is Windows 10 Home Single Language.

Answer:Tablet mode doesn't get engaged when I undock my Windows tablet?

I would like to know how to enable this as well - In fact, I was hoping to be prompted to change modes when dock/undocking....instead of having to find the setting and toggle tablet mode on/off every time.

Hey all, I have a weird problem.  My tablet buttons have stopped working-- but only in tablet mode.  That is, I can't rotate, or bring up the tablet shortcuts, or move around the screen in tablet mode.  Also autorotate doesn't work.  But if I switch out of tablet mode, I can do all of these things just fine (except for autorotate). Also, when I switch into tablet mode the screen doesnt rotate or anything, but when I switch out of tablet mode the screen rotates to the direction I defined in the settings (sometimes.. to be honest it seems pretty random to me).  I am running 32 bit vista w/ 4 gb ram on an x61 tablet with the latest drivers.  I have uninstalled the tablet button drivers and the lenovo system interface and reinstalled them already.. I have the latest APS. Help me out here.. I have no idea why this isn't working!  Don't make me have to reinstall vista to get the buttons working.. Tha'ts ridiculous!!  Arrrgh.

Well, I've finally had it. I've had my 6365 CTO X60 tablet pc for over a year now and last Monday I lost pen functionality in tablet pc mode in the afternoon after working fine in the morning. It works fine, even now after rotating the screen back to laptop mode. As soon as the screen is rotated back to tablet pc mode, no pen functionality but the mouse still works fine so I know it's functional in laptop mode but rotate back, all ok!  I did uninstall the Wacom drivers, restart, and then downloaded the tablet pc, windows xp version drivers from the wacom.com site as instructed in a previous post. Unfortunately, the digitizer pen is still disabled in tablet pc mode and works fine when rotated back to laptop mode. I've called Lenovo tech support in Atlanta four times now and they've been totally useless. I wiped out my X60 tablet last Friday and used Rescue and Recovery to reinstall the operating system back to it's factory settings. I went back and unistalled and reinstalled the Wacom driver. Nothing. Since that didn't work either I've requested the box to ship this back to the Memphis Depot. Hopefully, I'll just get a new replacement machine that works but I'm so angry and frustrated w/ Lenovo's support because it's obvious that the people on the phone are not tech specialists and they couldn't even point me in a direction to get this fixed. It's cost me over a week now wo... Problem solved! While the support folks weren't able to fix the problem over the phone, they did overnite me a prepaid return box which I sent back that day. Two days later they overnited my X60 tablet back fixed with a note saying 'LCD enabled'. I'm impressed how quickly they got my tablet pc back up and running. I'm glad I got that 3-yr. support warranty because I usually opt out of those things. This totally paid for itself. I just wish I hadn't been so reluctant to send back my laptop because I do need it for work and I figured I wouldn't get it back for at least a week or longer. I was so frustrated and pessimistic that I forgot sometimes these problems do get fixed in a very satisfactory manner. It's too bad the initial steps that led to sending it back were so painful. Bottom line: Lenovo fixed my pc quickly, no questions asked. Thanks!

Hi all,    I have a really annoying problem...my x220 tablet disconnects from the internet whenever I enter tablet mode. The internet can be working perfectly fine while in non tablet mode but as soon as I switch to tablet mode, my internet disconnects. And if I switch back to non tablet mode from tablet mode, my internet returns almost instantaneously. I can load a page in non tablet mode with no problems, switch to tablet mode and the page stops loading. If I return back to non tablet mode the page resumes loading without so much as a pause or a hiccup. Also, when I switch the computer to tablet mode, wifi networks disappear off of the "available networks" list that were there before the switch.     I've tried everything, from updating network device drivers, reinstalling network device drivers, running diagnostics, reformatting my computer, uninstalling Norton Antivirus, system restoring to days before the last known working date in normal mode and safe mode, and contacting customer support (chat and call, managed to get a hold of a rep) but none of them have worked.    I also used to have a networking log before I reformatted/system reset to factory settings and there were a ton of errors with words like avsc manager failed to "something" ... I'll reinstall the thinkpad network managing program to create another log. Can someone please help me? My last resort is calling lenovo support again to have tech support come to hel... Read more

I just bought my Yoga 2 13, when I flip it to Tablet mode, the screen turns off. Apparently it goes to sleep. When I open it it turns on again. Do I need to do any adjustments? or is this a defect?

Answer:Yoga 2 13 Tablet Screen turns off when in Tablet Mode

Try updating your drivers first: http://mobilesupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-2-13-notebook-l...If that does not help, try a factory reset:1. Turn off your Yoga 2 132. Press the tiny button next to the power button on the right3. Follow instructions to perform a factory resetIf none of the above attempts have helped you, it is probably a hardware issue.

Hi all. Had this problem on my previous Thinkpad too, an x120. Often, when I put the x220t to sleep by closing the lid it will not reconnect to wifi when I reopen it. The icon stays greyed out. I find the fastest way to resolve the problem is to right click and run the troubleshooter, which resets the wifi network adapter and all then is well. Device Manager says its an Intel Centrino R Advanced N 6205 and driver is up to date. Any ideas? Running clean install (not an upgrade) of Win 8.

I was last in the tablet mode and calibrated the digi-pen.  I then shut down the unit.  When I rebooted it in the laptop/notebook mode, I have no response or movement from the pointer, but the screen does respond to the digi-pen. What do I need to do to get the pointer/mouse to respond? I'm beginning to think this unit is buggier than I want to accept.

Answer:X220T - Laptop Mode - No Pointer or Mouse Response

Very strange. I rebooted and continued to have the same problem - a frozen TrackPoint mouse pointer. I then hit Fn-.F8 where the option of TrackPoint only (disable touch pad) was selected. I then selected both TrackPoint and touch pad; and the mouse pointer started to respond. I then selected TrackPoint only (disable touch pad) and the mouse pointer continued to work A-OK. Am I going to experience this every time I switch between the tablet and the notebook position?

It sounds to me like a loose connection inside the ThinkPad.  Since this happens at the BIOS splash screen, it cannot possibly be a software/driver problem.  I would recommend calling support to get warranty service about it.

Answer:X220T BSOD after Power safe mode and WLAN Problems

Hey there Thomas28,

After reviewing some threads I found over on the microsoft forum, the Intel 6205 Wlan card and the DPC Watchdog Violation BSOD could be related. What I would you like to first start with is ensuring all your drivers are up to date, specifically your Intel Drivers. If you will go to the Intel site and run the Intel Driver Update Utility and bring all your drivers up to date, we want to make sure you have the most up to date driver for your Intel 6205 WLAN card. Hopefully this will resolve your issue.

I am looking to replace my tired Linksys WRT54G router that is about 10 years old. I love the router, and its even better with DD-WRT on it, but I'm starting to have troubles with the wifi dropping all the connects for a couple seconds when running all my wireless devices. I have 3 smart phones, 2 tablets, 1 Chromecast, a smart TV, and Roku + a laptop or 3 in my house right now, and it seems like its getting to be a bit much for it.
I have had to completely re-flash the firmware twice this year to get the wifi working again, so I'm thinking its time for replacement.
I have been thinking about just getting the new WRT54GL for $50, but I'm also thinking it might be a good idea to upgrade the wifi technology past wireless G .
I'm wondering if my Tablet (Nexu 9), and our smartphones (Razr HD Max) along with the Chromecast will take advantage of the new wireless standards and higher speeds or not? If they will can someone recomend a decent wireless router that takes DD-WRT nicely in the sub-$100 range? Thanks!

Answer:Looking for new Wifi Router - Will Tablet/Smartphone take advantage of new wifi Standards?

I been programming in Android/Linux since 2010 and there is code that supports VHT is Very High Throughput. Right now the standards are HT is High Throughput .

As for DD-WRT firmware is like your overclocking your router pushing it beyond the OEM limits. I use to use DD-WRT but had quit many years ago since the routers that used that firmware would fail too much.

So best to buy a better business type enterprise router wired then you can use WiFi router as AP or just get WiFi AP(access point). To me WiFi Router is also Wired Router, but to use just a wired router and use WiFi AP through a switch is better. If one or the other goes you can easy replace them. Where as if the WiFi Router fails you would need to replace it.

If you really want to use DD-WRT then Look at Buffalo WiFi Routers some come pre-installed with DD-WRT on them. Frankly you really don't need DD-WRT today because newer routers or WiFi routers are much better built and offer much more power NPU = network processor units and 128, 256, 512, 1GB of RAM some have Dual Cores.

My problem is different from those who are experiencing internet connection difficulties in tablet mode.  I maintain a continuous and strong/full wifi signal, but am losing internet access intermittently.  It makes no difference whether the unit is used in laptop or tablet mode. If I reset the wireless adapter, I remain connected to the internet for anywhere from a few minutes up to an hour or so.  The wireless signal is always at full strength, and distance from the router makes no difference.  Occasionally internet access returns and then drops again, however, I generally have to run the troubleshooter to reset the connection.  Running the windows diagnostic/troubleshooter resets the adapter and returns the message: "the connection between your access point, router... and the Internet is broken" and "the default gateway is not available," but does temporarily resolve the issue.  We have two other laptops in the household that are not experiencing connection difficulties. So far I have reinstalled the drivers from the Lenovo site and have set the power options to maximum performance for the wireless adapter.  This is a brand-new unit in use only a few days and has had the problem since I unboxed it.

Is there a card or something that needs to be replaced? Am I better off just buying a new laptop?
Thank you.

Answer:What causes this PC to lose wifi connection?

Is it using a network card? Or does it have built in wifi?

The drivers may need to be updated. Network drivers and firmware can both become obsolete over time. Upgrading newer versions of these things can sometimes fix network connection problems.

Do you experience connection losses on any other machines in the house? Sometimes there can be interference.

Hi everyone, I have an Aspire V5-552PG with a Windows 8.1/64- bit OS. A few weeks ago, for no apparent reason, my laptop suddenly began losing WiFi connection whenever I move it down to the basement. The only way to reconnect to the WiFi network is to move the laptop back to the middle floor, where the modem and router are located. The weird thing is, this only happens to my laptop. Other laptops in our house (as well as smart phones) can easily be taken to the basement with little loss in WiFi connectivity. Moreover, I have previously been able to use my laptop in the basement without any internet issues whatsoever. I have tried the few ways I can think of to fix this issue, which include restarting the modem and router and updating my laptop's network drivers, none of which have solved the problem. I have rebooted my laptop in safe mode with network, but the problem still remains. This tells me it's an issue with the computer's core drivers or processes, however I have absolutely no idea what to do about it or what caused the issue in the first place. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. /Jenny

Trying to put my parents' PC into Standby mode but the only thing that was closing down was the monitor. What am I doing wrong? Is it okay to leave the PC on Standby all day and then turn off the PC at night?Could someone please tell me the difference between Standby and Hibernate - in very simple terms - and how do you set it up to Hibernaye?

Answer:Putting PC Into Standby Mode

Standby continues to supply power to RAM and certain other system components with the aim of keeping your Windows session in memory. It powers up quickly.Hibernation saves the contents of RAM to a portion of the HDD with some appended data, then shuts down everything completely. To all intents and purposes, it is the same as a shutdown, bar the fact that Windows cannot perform the tasks that it normally performs at shutdown. It boots up quite quickly.

Hi everyone,
I really need some help Please!

I have a very well updated Laptop running XP well patched with IE7.
I have run all the malware scans and there is nothing wrong on the PC.

After exactly 10 minutes of the PC being on, wireless internet connection is lost, BUT:

Signal Strength states "Excellent"

I can't access any website at all on the web. (Except for "Facebook" for some odd reason?) I can't access it
after the 10 minute mark but if I'm already on it, I can navigate thru it's site without being disconnected, don't
ask me why

I have tried the following:

- Dynamic and Static IP setting
- Turned on and off windows firewall and rebooted each time
- Ran all kinds of malware detection and virus scans
- Disabled power management on network card
- I've tried different PCs on the same network and they're fine
- Tried ipconfig release and renew
- Tried repair connection
- Tried netsh reset
- Tried FireFox and other browers
- Logging off and back in doesn't help, must restart the computer to get another 10 minutes

I'm at wits end, Please Help!

Is it possible to find a setting that will not lose the internet connection when I close the lid,,,, I already have all my settings on Do nothing when the lid is closed. Thanks

Answer:Lose Wifi connection when close the lid

Well, consider a car antenna in older cars [especially the powered one]. The radio would receive a better signal with the antenna up, right? It's the same thing with your laptop. If you have the "lid" up, considering the antennas are there, you will receive a better signal as opposed to having the "lid" down.

i notice that my yoga 13 is running slow in tablet/tent mode (any mode that flips that disable the keyboard). first i thought it's slow because of some unneccessary cpu hog but i open task manager, cpu is < 15%, RAM is < 20-40% (I have 8 GB RAM and i5 3337U). so why is it slow when it's tablet mode? once i turn it back to laptop mode, it goes fast again. OS is updated to latest update as well. Thanks

Answer:yoga 13 runs slow in tablet mode (any mode that disable the keyboard)?

Try disabling DPTF in BIOS.

Hi.I've been using ThinkPad Yoga for 4 days, and realized a problem regarding the rotation/orientation across the Laptop/Tent/Tablet modes. If I enter the Tablet mode (after flipping LCD to 360 degree), make several rotations with or without screen rotation lock, and come back to standard Laptop mode, then the orientation of TrackPad AND TrackPoint does not match the orientation of the screen. Does any one experience the same problem? Or, am I only one who have this problem? When I first open the box and use this machine, I didn't realize this problem. Maybe this is caused after I installed many programs and drivers.  So, I would appreciate very much if you let me know that you "don't have such a problem".It will also help me. Thank you!

I recently purchased a Sony Bravia XBR55X900E tv and I connect my pc to it via HDMI.  Here's is my setup:

Dell XPS 8700 connects to HDMI 2 on Sony TV.
My TV receiver connects to HDMI 1 on Sony TV.
My Sony AVR connects to HDMI 3 on Sony TV, strictly for audio purposes (ARC).
Logitech Harmony one universal remote.

My issue is this:  Whenever I switch between activites (example PC to watching TV), after the TV switches to HDMI 1 from HDMI 2, this puts my Dell into sleep / standby mode.  If I press the power button, it lights up like normal.  If I go back to the PC activity, again once the TV switches from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2, the computer again goes into this "sleep" mode and I again have to press the power button to take it out of it.
All of my pc settings are set to NEVER with respect to monitor or PC going to sleep / standby mode.  Prior to this TV I had my pc connected to an older plasma TV and this never happened.
I contacted Sony to see if it something with their Bravia sync but the person said that everything looked good from the TV's end.
I'm hoping that someone has come across this and can steer me in the right direction as it is really frustrating and I don't know what else to try.

Answer:i need help from somebody, regarding putting windows xp (2005) in MS-DOS mode

Windows XP doesn't use DOS.If you want a fresh start, you have two options:1. Use Windows XP CD for clean install2. Use Recovery CD to bring the computer to its original state.NOTE. In both cases, all personal data, and installed programs will be lost.

Hi,

I have a perplexing situation. I have a home network with a wired router (Di604), feeding a Wireless router ( DIR615) set up as switch). I am just describing the setup, but please don't focus on that because it has been the same for about 5 years.

let me explain further....

the issue I have is when adding a second Blackberry to my WIFI, within half an hour ( varies) devices on the network begin to lose connection to the Internet... others still work, but later they will lose it also. This can span over several hours and eventually everyone is affected.... this affects both wired and wireless
My network has
Wired
2 devices

Wireless

6 devices

would there be a limit to the number of devices my ISP might allow? That is the only thing I can think of? I could have sworn I have added others.
Sometimes they come back on their own, but rebooting rarely helps. I ussually have to go down and unplug the routers and modem and then put them back on one by one, do a release/renew (don't always have to). And everything settles down.

The only thing I liken this to is a Broadcast storm, but I don't know enough about the cause?

I have a brand new HP laptop that came with Windows 10 home installed on it.
I have downloaded and applied all updates from MS.

I use a Wi-Fi connection to my Time Warner router.
I have everything setup and things seem to be running fine.

Here's the deal.

I thought I would try and use my blue tooth external speaker. (Just to see what would happen.)
Sooooo.

I enabled Bluetooth.
Start\Settings\Devices\Bluetooth.
After I move the slider (so the status reads (On), ....

I see a message that reads "Your PC is searching for and can be discovered by Bluetooth devices".

Two things happen:
The "search" never seems to end.

And I lose WI-Fi connectivity.

I finally, move the Bluetooth slider to the "Off" position and my Wi-Fi connectivity returns.

I "do" see my external speaker.
And it does work. (As long as "Bluetooth" is enabled.)

But of course, I then have no Internet connectivity and THAT becomes an issue for me.

Any ideas or suggestions as to what I may need to do, would be greatly appreciated.

JustRay in Wisconsin

Answer:lose wifi connection when enabling bluetooth. Any fix ?

The first thing to do is check for driver updates, and make sure they are the correct drivers for your hardware. Bluetooth/Wireless drivers are usually downloaded as a package, so it might make sense that they effect each other.

I've been having a strange internet connection for a while. Mainly via wifi, but also via cable sometimes. I have another post of losing the Ethernet adapter once in a while, but that seems to fix itself when I manage to reconnect to internet through wifi. That problem boiled down to this "Incorrect Network Key", which was what always blocked internet access via wifi.

When I cannot get connection via wifi, I run the Diagnose Connection problem in IE7. (I'm on XP2). A couple of times it has told me there's an issue with the Winsock and that it will proceed to reset it. But most of the time it tells me the Network Key is incorrect, although the wireless connection indicates that I am connected properly and have an excellent signal. It prompts me to reenter teh Nw Key in Network Connections. When I do, the existing NW Key is always different from what it should be. It also happens if I just open the Nw Connections panel and check the Wireless Nw properties for my wifi nw. What I have entered as a correct key, is not what appears.

It is like it doesn't "save" the Nw Key.

Where I live, there are two computers connected. My XP2, and an iMac G5, along with its own wifi nw for Apple TV etc. There are also other wifi nws in the building, but all protected. Also, these are not on my preferred nws list.

Any ideas?

For Christmas my parents bought me a Canon Zr 60 Digital Camcorder. In the manual it tells me all about how my camcorder has night mode, but it doesn't tell me how to set it up. Any help on how to set it up would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Problem Putting Camcorder in Night Mode

Page 44 of the online manual tells how to use menu and settings dial and in that section once you learn the menu and settings dial you will find the night mode setting some where in there. I think you just need to see what the different settings are when you turn that dial to find it.

I just got a brand new laptop with Windows Hello. It's very useful for logging in, but my laptop now goes to sleep every time I leave my desk. The red light next to the infrared camera blinks often when I'm using my laptop (which is also pretty annoying), and then if I get up, even for a few minutes (to grab a snack, notebook, etc.) my laptop goes to sleep. I'm pretty computer illiterate, but I suspect that the camera is still looking for me while I'm using my computer and then decides my laptop needs to sleep when it doesn't see my face anymore. Is there any way to change this? I like not having to use a password, but the red light and going to sleep is annoying, especially since I tend to get up from my desk a lot just to stretch. It also seems like having the camera on all the time would drain the battery pretty quickly. Am I way off base here?

My apologies if this question seems basic, but I really am confused.

I'm trying to understand why I would want to use tablet mode. Apart from the minimize, maximize and "x" buttons found in desktop mode. Aren't the modern tile apps that you can launch straight from the start menu in desktop mode, exactly the same as the ones in tablet mode? Apart from the apps being full screen.

If so, I'm thinking I may as well just stay in desktop mode and launch the apps from the start menu in desktop mode?

Thank you for your time

Answer:Are Moden Apps the same in desktop mode as tablet mode?

In Tablet mode those Apps are full screen.

Hey guys,
I bought a Flex 3 1580 about a week ago. I reformatted the computer because the video drivers were screwed up, but now when I flip the laptop around to tablet mode, nothing happens. The keyboard cuts out and everything but I no longer get the little pop up that asks if i want to switch. I've tried going into tablet settings and telling it to automatically switch without asking, but this also doesn't work.
I'm wondering if maybe I missed a cruicial piece of software after I reformatted because it was working perfectly before, but I reinstalled everything available on the lenovo website and nothing helped.
I've tried googling this problem over and over but I can never seem to find any answers, especially for this specific model.
Really would appreciate help with this. It's not a huge deal because I can still swith manually, but it certainly would be nice to have it working as before.
Thanks!

I have an Asus Transformer Book, and when I pull the tablet part off the keyboard, Windows 10 automatically switches into tablet mode. I'm wondering if it's possible to have Chrome automatically open into WIndows 8 Mode when Windows 10 is in tablet mode. I like to use Windows 8 Mode in Chrome when I'm using my Asus as a tablet, but not when I'm using it as a laptop. So simply put, is it possible to sync up the toggle between Windows 8 Mode in Chrome and Tablet mode in Windows 10?

I hope this makes sense.
Thanks.
