lenovo x220 tablet 6 cell battery

Question: lenovo x220 tablet 6 cell battery

i ordered my x220t yesterday after much consideration . visually.. I HATE HOW THE BATTERY LOOKS sticking out from the bottom, i dont mind it sticking out from the back.. just not the bottom. however i do love the specs of the system. this battery needs to be worked on. so even tho i bought this system.. i call on lenovo to make a new battery for this system that is flush to the bottom of th system and offers the same battery strength as the ugly one. i would buy that in a heartbeat. SO PLEASE!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: lenovo x220 tablet 6 cell battery

Unfortunately what you're asking for isn't possible as a physically larger battery will always have a higher capacity than a larger one assuming they both use the same technology. There is a 3-cell battery for the x220t that fits flush in the x220t but of course it only has half the capacity of the 6-cell battery.

I had a battery  (the original one) for about 2 years of usage. About three weeks ago from nowhere, the battery had crash, from 6 hours of  working the time split in half and in one week, he give failed completely. I just bought a new one from an online shop from my country. I hadn't formatted it yet (let to make a fluctuation from 0 to 100%), but I used it and sometimes my laptop is closing from nowhere. I would like to know if there is a problem with my laptop or with my charging... The battery model is 42T4940.  Technology Lithium Ion. I'm using windows 7 and linux OS.

Hi there, I recently bought a ThinkPad x220 with a 9-cell battery, thinking that it would help me get through the day without a charger. However, it seems like the battery is quickly deteriorating. It's been around a month since I purchased it, and the battery stat shows it's had 18 cycles of charge and discharge. I've made sure to never drain the battery down to 25%.  The capacity is reported to be at 97.4% of design capacity! Another laptop I had from Dell only dropped down to similar figures after a year. Should I be worried? Is there anything I can do to mitigate? Or is this battery flawed in its production? Answers would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:X220 9-cell battery capacity?

Hi nzguy, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

What you're seeing is normal for a lithium-ion battery. In normal use it's going to last 2-3 years.

Hope this helps explain!

Hello all! I've tried to search for past topics comparing Sanyo and LGC 9-cell battery but have been unsuccessful.  In our office, I basically have the choice to get a new 9-cell Sanyo (Japan made, finished in China) or LGC (Korea made, finished in China) battery. Which should I choose?  Thanks in advance for your replies!

My Sanyo 2 x 9 cells have called it quit after 15 months, and my LGC is still going strong after 3 years (well 70% of the original capacity after 220 cycles).

Dear All,I am facing this problem. I have just purchased a new genuine Lenovo 9-cell battery for my 3 year old X220.  It is verified with the Lenovo power manager and all relevant battery information were displayed correctly. However, the battery is being charged at constant 0.17A and taking forever to charge up.  The battery reset procedure was aborted after 24 hours. When I put my original 6-cell battery inside and the charging Amp varies according to the level of the battery. I have tried downgrading BIOS, removing Lenovo Power Manager and driver. There is no improvement. The vendor was kind enough to let me test the new 9-cell battery on other units of X220, X230 and it performed normally: the charging Amp varies according to the level of battery left.  Therefore, the battery is not at fault here. Can you share any experience and solution? Thanks.Best regardsEric

Last week ,I received my x220.IPS,i5-2520.But shortly I found that the battery life is too short.I have seen many reviews said that they tested their x220,and their machines will last for 7 hrs or more if just playing viedos or browse pages. And my poor laptop,if I only use it for internet iexplore and MSN,it will only last for 3 or 3.5 hours, the battery mode which I choose is energy saver, and the brightness or screen is 9,I don't know if there is somthing problem with my battery or laptop...And other thing is that when i charge my battery ,from 99% to 100%,it will take half an hour to comlete that ,although it display "charge will be comlete in 2 min."...I use the everest to test my battery ,and the battery consumption is 0%,but the designed capacity is less than the full charge capacity....is that normal?  Plz help me .....LoL....

I got this laptop a couple of months ago and since the first charge the battery has always lasted 5 to 6 hours. I was told by some people that the battery needed full charge/discharge cycles in order to achieve full capacity, but I am still getting 6h at most of the 9 cell battery opposed to 14h as advertised. I am running Linux, but I get the same duration in Windows. If I activate extreme performance on the Lenovo tool I can get up to 8h but effectively turning the laptop into half the machine I paid for. Are there any recommendations?

Answer:X220 9 cell battery lasts 6 hours

I'm disappointed too. I get about 4 hours on a 6 cell battery. It is possible to get long battery life but it requires extreme compromises.

Hello everybody, this is my first post on this forum. I want to buy a X220, but I am still uncertain between the X220 and the new Sony Vaio Z (2011 model). I would like to know if anyone of you has used the X220 with the 4 cell battery and how much was the runtime. Technically, with the 4 cell, the X220 weights 2.95 pounds, but will it last for at least 5 hrs? With the 9 cell, the weights goes up a lot, to 3.6 pounds, and the real runtime, I've seen on this forum, is no more than 8-9 hrs. Can you give me feedback on this? ThankS!

Answer:X220 4 cell Battery ifetime and WEIGHT options

I usually get less than 5 hours with a 6 cell battery, so I wouldn't count on a 4 cell lasting that long. Of course, it will depend on what you're doing, but I'm using web browser on WWAN and nothing cpu or graphics intensive.

The ThinkPad Battery 19+ (6 Cell Slice - X220, X220T) I've checked the lenovo website. Is it not available? When I add it to the shopping cart, it is crossed out, and labelled "Item Expired". Is it discontinued, or out of stock, or in short supply? And at 230$, it's a bit expensive.

I just wonder if a Lenovo Notebook Z710(59396561), 17.3" Intel Core i7 4700MQ, comes with battery other than 4 cell, say a 6 cell battery? Is there any 6 cell battery for this type of machine?

hi liangxiang,

Welcome to the Forums.

From the IdeaPad Z10 SKUs that I've seen (US Models), all of them comes with a 4-cell battery which lasts an average of 5hrs.

This Lenovo Z710 (59396561) model though is advertised as having a 6-cell battery.

Hi, I bought the above named battery around October. However this stopped working around February, and I have simply had no time to get it sorted as this has been my GCSE year (UK). However I fear my warranty on the product may have run out, but I can't find a number to call so I can question this with Lenovo or whoever. Can someone point me in the right direction with a URL or number so I can call someone, because frankly 1.5 hours of battery life isn't the most convenient during long school days   Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated too... Thanks, George.

Hi,When I try for battery with FRU# 93P5032 (8-cell) for my X61 Tablet-7764 series, I am not bale to see any battery listed in Shop-Lenovo site for X61-tablet.  However, it only shows a battery Model name: 40Y8318 (8-cell) as the compatible one, but again it does not show X61 anywhere in the more information page of this part.  My question is: the name or no (93P5032 and 40Y8318) are same or different.  Or rather if I buy 40Y8318 battery, will it be compatible with my X61 Tablet-7764. I will be grateful if some one replies at the earliest. best wishesravi sankar

Ravi, The 8 cell battery for X60 and X61 tablets should interchange.   We have Option part numbers which are the marketing part numbers on the sales site, and we have FRU numbers, which are the service part numbers.    Sometimes we release updated versions of the part and do a part substitution in service.  Here is a table from this page which shows that the 8 cell Option part 40Y8318 equates to service part 42T5208. DescriptionGeographyMarketing part numberReplacement part number (FRU)ThinkPad X60 Tablet 4 cell Li-Ion battery (Sanyo)Worldwide40Y831442T5204ThinkPad X60 Tablet 4 cell Li-Ion battery (LG)42T5206ThinkPad X60 Tablet 8 cell Li-Ion battery (Sanyo)40Y831842T5208 Here is another table from the service parts list that is common to both the X60 and X61 showing they use the same 8 cell battery part FRU 93P5032.   93P5032 is a latter level FRU number for 42T5208, so they are equivalent. Battery pack, Li-ion (8 cell, 4.55 Ah), Sanyo6363-CTO, 2Ax, 35x, 38x, 46x, 47x, 4Gx, 4Jx, 54x, 57x, 58x, 5Ax, 64x, 6Dx, 74x, 75x, 7Ax, 85x, 86x, 8Dx, 8Mx, 94x, 95x, 9Cx, 9Dx, 9Ex, A7x, A8x, A9x, ADx, AMx, ANx, B3x, C3x, C7x, C8x, C9x, CBx, CCx, F8x, G4x, G5x, G6x, H4x, HAx, J3x, J4x, J5x, JDx, M3x, M4x, M6x, N3x, P3x, P4x, P8x, R3x, R5x, R6x 6364-CTO, 2Ax, 38x, 46x, 4Jx, 54x, 5Ax, 64x, 6Dx, 85x, 8Dx, 9Cx, A7x, ADx, C7x, G4x, G5x, G6x, J3x, P3x, R3x, R5x, R6x 6365-CTO, 25x, 4Bx, 8Gx, AGx, F5x, J9x, K6x 6366-CTO, 6Fx, 7Dx, 8Kx,... My doughter's laptop falled down from the table what caused that the LCD is not working correctly. It lights a little bit, but stays almost dark. I checked the LCD, and it looks that the one is OK (I put it into another X220 t and it works. So it looks that there's something different broken (also I mounted the correctly working LCD from another X220 t into the one and doesnt work either). What could it be? Where should I find the reason of that? Could it be something with the motherboard or what? As mentioned before, the LCD lights a little bit, but doesn't show anything, stays dark (a little lighter than as is OFF).

Answer:Lenovo X220 tablet LCD backlight.

I'm guessing you blew a fuse on the motherboard.  They are VERY fast burning fuses and easy to blow.  Unfortunately, most places cannot fix that sort of problem without replacing the board.

I have a Tablet x61 with a primary battery that works fine and a second battery that attaches at the bottom.   The Power Management recognizes both batteries, however the secondary battery does not charge when I plug in the AC adapter to the side of the X61.  It appeared to have a partial charge when first plugged in after purchase.   The primary battery charges fine.   I've never been able to charge the secondary battery.  Both are less than a month old.   Am I missing something on setup or how to charge the battery.   I presumed that plugging in the X61 to the AC would charge both batteries at the same time. As an update to this post, when I remove the primary battery then the secondary battery charges fine.   I have to physically remove the primary battery in order to charge the secondary battery on my X61 Windows XP tablet.  When the primary battery is attached, only the primary battery charges.  Secondary Battery Model: 40Y7005Description:  X61 Extended Life BatteryO/S:  XP SP2Thinkpad Model:  X61 Tablet 7762-B6U Message Edited by ctoys on 06-25-2008 01:48 PM

Answer:Thinkpad Tablet X61 & 4-cell extended battery

So I have a resolution to the problem after switching batteries and discovering it was not related to the hardware (secondary battery.)     The fix to charge a secondary battery sitting at 0% is to remove the primary battery leaving only the secondary battery to be charged.    Once the secondary battery has fully charged, it will recharge as needed even with the primary battery attached.    In other words, once charged by itself the problem went away.

We discovered this problem in early August with our new X220 tablets.  We have a 1-to-1 tablet pc program.  About 75% of our freshmen class has experienced this issue.  The tablets are running on battery power with the extended battery slice.  The units will spontaneously just power off.  Not a clean shutdown but just a power off.  The batteries are in various states when this happens, most of the time both batteries are almost fully charged.  I've witnessed this dozens of times with the students in my classes.  We found out that this also is affecting another high school in our consortium.  We bulk purchase our tablets with several other high schools.  The other high school that is experiencing this issue has the same model and the same manufacturer date 6-11-2012.  We estimate 200-300 units are affected between the two schools.  Lenovo product engineers are working on finding the source of the problem, but we currently have many frustrated students and parents.  Just curious if anyone else has seen this issue with X220 tablets and slices that were manufactured around the first part of June?

Hello, The fan in my lenovo X220 tablet stops working after awhile from turning the device on (after around 10 minutes). This causes the temperature of the processor to always be above 90 degree C (using TPFanControl V 0.61). The fan control software shows that the fan is turning at 4060 RPM, but there is absolutly no air coming out! I recently re-applied the thermal paste, and the problem (fan turning off) "might" have started after re-applying the thermal past - I did it in a local computer service shop. I tried to update the BIOS, but the battery does not work and the installation does not start (it gives me an error) because of that. I have been using my X220 for six years with no problems and I currently run windows 10. Please let me know if you have any idea on how to fix this issue.

Answer:Lenovo X220 Tablet Fan Turn Off after few minutes

There are only 2 parts involved - the fan and the motherboard.  If the fan bearing gets hot and seizes, it would spin at start-up to avoid the fan error message.  Fans are cheaper than motherboards, so if it were mine, I would try a new fan.

My x220 tablet is haveing issues with the graphics card shutting off. I did not expect the graphics card to be a limiting factor since I am only using 2D visualls right now. Just bought my new x200 tablet, and it was delivered to me yesterday. I ordered 8 Cell battery which means it should last about 7 to 8 hours, but my battery only shows 4 hours remaining after fully charged.... Is it possible they send me 4 cell battery instead of 8 cell...?  Also, I ordered bluetooth on the computer, but there is no where to find the bluetooth. The default configeration for  x200 tablet is  4 cell battery and no bluetooth....so i figured that the assembler made some mistake..... what should i do now....?

Answer:8 CELL BATTERY for 4 hours AND BLUETOOTH Missingf or X200 Tablet

well the first thing is to just look at the battery, because 4-cell and 8-cell.physical size is obvious.  The 4-cell is flush with the system and the 8-cell sticks out on the back.  You can google for images if you don't understand what I mean. well if the battery is 4-cell and not 8 that you ordered, you should call lenovo before you even check step 2. since they already messed up   second, go to device manager to see if there are bluetooth in there,  also go into bios to check that bluetooth is enabled.

Not Running on Flash Normal Code now!! - FBO" Has anyone else run into this issue? I'm stuck not being able to use my 128gb SSD at all.

Ihave owned a Windows 7 X220 Tablet for about 3 years, but never previously ugraded the Lenovo software on it. I saw this was possible, ticked various upgrades and set it off to download and install. On restarting the screen is black - with only a flat white cursor top left. I called Lenovo who said they suspected a bios upgrade had conflicted with something else being installed at the same time (I had ticked multiple upgrades at once), and suggested Ilook and ask for help on the forum. They said they thopught I needed to roll back the bios upgrade but Idon't know how to. I run Trend Micro security suite which was not swithced off when I did the upgrade. Any suggestions at all would be really welcome as the machine is effectively dead and unusable unless I can get it back to the previous set-up. ( Isuspect there are likely to be restore  points but cannot do anything at all at present) Thanks very much    cnwlenovo 15 Feb 2015

Answer:Disaster - X220 tablet - screen black on reboot after installing Lenovo upgrades

Ihave just (after posting this request), and 2 weeks after the failed attempt to get the computer to restart, tried again with the laptop powered onto the mains - it must have completely lost battery power in the meantime, successfully rebooted into Windows, the machine installed Windows upgrqades as it booted, and restarted itself in the process. Iliterally bit my nails as this was going on - and pleased to report the macjine now seems to have opened up OKin windows. Phew!!!      Wonder if the "bad loop"it may have gotten into when Iwas tryoing to reboot several times before - resulting in black screen and white cursor top left - may have died with a complete power down. In any event Iam hugely relieved - so Lenovo upgrades were obviously "self-correcting and troubleshotting after all.... Cnwlenovo 15 February 2015

My battery is not part of the recall (42T5209) however it has all the symptoms of the recalled batteries. I was on battery with ~78% battery life left. I shut down the computer and turned it back on several hours later, or at least I tried to. No go!! Plugged the laptop in and got a flashing battery error. Battery is showing 78% charge left, displays the battery voltage however AMPERAGE IS AT 0.00%. Called IBM/Lenovo and opened up a case, however all they can do it 15% off the cost of the battery.I am past the 1 year warranty on the battery. What I do not understand it why they are covering certain batteries and not ALL batteries that have the issue... Update: Well the battery IS PART OF THE RECALL, however I am past the "6 month" extended warranty coverage.Edit2: Battery only has 98 cycles... Message Edited by draco2527 on 04-14-2009 06:33 PMMessage Edited by draco2527 on 04-16-2009 01:04 PM

Which battery manager do you use? I'm getting like 3-3.5 hours w/ the lenovo one. Can you disable it and use windows? how do i do that? thanks.

Answer:x220: lenovo battery manger vs windows?

Thinkvantage Power Manager is designed specifically for thinkpads and optimised for the batteries that ship with Thinkpads. It is more accurate and have better charging method. While, windows one is more generic built with no particular system in mind. As such Lenovo's one is better, as you can select the different charging plan which is not allowed by windows.

A few weeks ago I've ordered a repacement battery via https://lenovobattery2014.orderz.com/ A couple days later I've recieved a package, but when I opened up, I've found that the battery is not compatible with my Thinkpad x220. I've checked it's P/N and it seems that they shipped me a battery for x240 or x240t. I've send a few emails on different Lenovo adresses about it, but it didn't work out:Local support (I live in Russia) told me that they do not deal with replacement battery program. My emails to global support were left unrepled (I've tried [email protected][email protected]) What should I do? If that's relevant, I've bought my thinkpad in US.

I think this is pretty well documented here and elsewhere - the 6 cell battery that came with my lenovo doesn't sit tight and that just ruins the fit and finish for me. I recently ordered a 9-cell battery thru amazon (laptopbatteryexpress - it was $79, same serial# but not branded lenovo) and this one sits correctly. Just thought I'd share..

Hi I'm using my machine since 2012 but the original batter with 6cells is already dead.I mean the battery decreases to 0 % immediately from 65%.Now I've decided to buy new battery but this time I'd like to buy a more powerful battery.http://www.amazon.comandhttp://www.aliexpress.comI'm gana ask are these two batteries compatible with Y580?Do you suggest any other battery to keep at least 7 hours in real?

Answer:Lenovo Y580 with 12 or 9 Cell Battery

I have the one from Amazon and along with the original 6-cell battery, I can get through a whole day of meetings. This 9 cell battery gives me close to 6 hours depending on whether I have the wifi on. This is on a Z585 with the A10-4600m processor.

I have owned my y560p for a couple of months now, the two biggest downfalls for me were the slower hard drive, and the low battery life. I installed a ssd so now the only issue is the lack of life. I was curious if there is any 9 cell battery that would be compatible with the y560p. If there is not I will end up buying a second 6 cell, but I'd really prefer a better battery than what is already in the y560p. Price isn't really an issue, so if anybody could link me with a compatible 9cell battery I would be very gracious. :] Thank you in advance!

Hi, I'm considering buying a second battery because my current 6-cell (29+ 42T4861) doesn't last more than 6 hours the way I use it. The current battery is in relatively good condition because I used to work while it was plugged in, I don't think the cycle count is greater than 80.  I'm considering the 29++ 9-cell and the 6-cell slice, but I don't know which combination would be the best in terms of battery life.I'm aware that the slice would be more comfortable to use, because the 9-cell sticks out, plus I would have to change batteries every time one discharges. Price wise they are rather similar where I live, considering that I would buy an external battery charger with the 9-cell.  Is there a significant (1-2+ hours) difference between the two batteries, or is it negligable? Thanks in advance, and my apologies if this was asked in the past.

Answer:X220: 6-cell + 9-cell vs 6-cell + slice (6-cell)

There is no problem to use these batteries together.

The sleeve is actually designed to fit the 9 cell battery. I own both and the extended battery and T510 fit in the sleeve with plenty of room. You won't even need to leave it unzipped.

I have a brand-new T400 (as of about 2 weeks ago) with a 9cell battery.  It has a P8600, 2gb RAM (1 DIMM), Intel Wireless 5300, Bluetooth, 160 gig 7200 rpm hard drive, etc. Perhaps I expected too much, but as of now, my battery life seems rather poor considering the "brand new Centrino 2" with "improved battery life".  In Windows Vista, with wireless on, bluetooth off, and the screen brightness set between 25 and 50%, I'm lucky to break 6.5 hours.  In Ubuntu, with wireless on, bluetooth off, and the screen brightness set between 25 and 50%, I'm lucky to break 2.5 hours.  Neither of those figures is particularly impressive, I feel (perhaps I had improper expectations), especially considering I'm lugging around a 9 cell battery. Are my expectations wrong, or is my battery/hardware fubar?

Answer:Lenovo T400 9-Cell Battery Life?

I have the exact same config (from what you've described). My 9 cell gave me about 8 hours the first time on max. battery life, but now is only estimating 3 the second charge around.  In addition, my new 4-cell only lasted 1:30 on max battery life.  Why the sudden drop (what's causing my laptop to suck more power?).  I've calibrated/reset the 9-cell once already.Any ideas? edit: RMClock shows an estimate of 28800mW being used.  This is with wifi on, 35% screen brightness, just browsing the web.  Seems pretty high.Message Edited by zachman123 on 09-22-2008 10:25 AM

Hello!I bought my Edge 420 two years ago and really love it. But after installing WIndows 8.1 battery life decreased for 2.5-3 hours from one battery charge. I don't wanna back to Windows 7, because I like new OS without any lag and problem. Not long ago I read about 9-cell battery and want to buy it. But where? Which store or place do you recommend for buying? And I know, that batteries capacity may go down because of time (laptop sales have begun in 2011). Should I buy new 9-cell battery? Or just forget about it and continuing using my old 6-cell?Thank you for replies!

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad E420. 9-Cell Battery.

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Capacity of a battery declines as the battery ages, with the number of charge cycles and time at high temperature. Under average usage patterns your battery maintains approximately 70% of its power capacity after the first year of operation.

If you feel that the battery backup is too low, try doing a battery firmware upgrade and BIOS update. Check the Lenovo support site for any battery firmware updates for your particular model.

Refer this knowledgebase which explains some tips to improve battery backup.

Still if you feel like getting a battery replacement, I would suggest you to contact Lenovo technical support. I'm sure they would be of great help.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Answer:Sleeve for Lenovo x230t with 6 cell battery

I ended up getting the 51J0476 ThinkPad 12W Notebook Sleeve - 10.83" x 12" x 0.98" - Neoprene from amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002MVXGM4/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00. Sleeve fits perfectly. Both the zippers do zip down all the way on both sides. To me, I would prefer them just to zip down halfway on both sides, but that's my preference and isn't that bothersome The outside material feels alright, not great. Inside is red and also feels alright. Not a lot of cushion support, but it will definitely protect from scratches and etc; it does what it is supposed to do. It was the best I could find and I'm happy with the product. Seems like the price on amazon went up. I bought it for 14.95 with 3.98 shipping for a total of 18.93. Right now it is 19.95 with free shipping, so not much of a difference, but a little. I hope this helps the person that had the same question as me.

I plan to replace my 8-cell battery before any of these documented problems occur. It has been about 14 months since I bought my battery direct from Lenovo with the new [7764CTO] X61t tablet. I searched in the forum but found no discussion about this so perhaps we can assemble here the community's experience with the available replacements. If you bought a replacement from a source other than Lenovo, did it perform as well as the "factory" part? If not, how did it differ? Thanks, in advance, for any feedback from this community! Jonathan

Answer:Aftermarket 8-cell battery: As good as Lenovo brand?

About two years ago I tried some sort of eBay special on a X41T. I bought two of the batteries, and one failed within a month, while the other's capacity dropped off very quickly. Of course I could have just been unlucky with the batteries I got... There was one problem I can't blame on luck: the after-market battery was slightly wider than the original X41T battery.  If that battery was attached the tablet, the tablet would not fit into its dock.

This just started this morning.  I noticed that if I left a browser window open for a while (particularly with a white background with black text), when I minimize the window, I can see a faint image of it left behind that fairly quickly (at least for now) fades away on it's own.

I turned off the machine, unplugged all the batteries and the power.  Checked and cleaned all the connections and vents.  Then powered it back up on just main battery (has nearly a full charge) played with brightness just a bit.  At first it wasn't repeating the problem but quickly it's showing up again and I am extremely concerned.

I am still under warranty.  Please advise.  Thank you in advance - best regards.

Moderator comment: Subject edited to clarify laptop model.

Answer:Lenovo X220 Tablet (screen just startedshowing signs of screen memory burn in...)

Updated Info:  Problem only happens on the edges of the screen, a little less than an inch in from any edge, top/bottom/left/right and the problem may appear, but anything in the middle and it seems fine.

Doesn't happen if my background is set to solid black.  It's slightly noticeable with a mid-grey tone and it's worse still with a mid to dark grey tone that is tinted with a purple-ish hue.

Could some other x220 owners set their bg color to a dark grey purple color, and try to see if it's just a limitation.  I'm trying to determine if my hardware is failing, or if I just stumbled upon something that for most cases and purposes isn't going to be much of a bother.

Other than recently calibrating my touch and pen input, I haven't made any changes to the system.  Today I installed a new intel graphics driver update from Win update but it didn't change anything.

Thank you all very much.

Whoa. I had a coupon and got a spare for $68 as a separate shipment. Don't get those eBay batteries. Rumor has it that they use a lower quality cell that will not last as long. I think I read somewhere that Lenovo batteries use Sanyo cells. The ebay ones use cheaper ones. Take that for what it's worth.

Just received my new T430s and the first thing I tried to do is insert the 3 cell Li-ion bay battery from my T420s into it. However, during boot up system says it does not recogise this type of battery (ESC key needed to get pass this screen to continue bootup).
In the power manager, the battery will shows up, and the T430s can use the battery normally. However, it just refuse to charge it. I have tried to update battery firmware and read any FAQ in the T430s manual or lenovo website. Nothing shows up. It is weird that such an advance battery cannot be used in a new laptop just 1/2 generation from the last one. I saw from lenovo website that the new 3 cell battery is Type 43.

Has anyone using Tx30 laptops successfully use this battery? Thank you

Answer:Lenovo T430s can draw power from 3 cell bay battery but cannot charge

The T430s employs the new Rapid Charge feature. This requires a new generation of batteries that are incompatible with the old.

I was able to find this statement about main batteries:
New battery models (70+, 70++, 81+, 82+) feature a hardware authentication chip. These batteries will work in 2012 and older ThinkPads. Existing battery models (55, 55+, 55++, 66+) do not have a hardware authentication chip and will be recognized, but not be charged, in 2012 ThinkPads.
This doesn't mention your model 42 battery but the T430s announcement did include a new model 43 3-cell battery (0A36310) so it's likely the same restriction applies.

I have a lenovo X61 tablet that I have purchased the extra battery for (the external one that mounts on the ultrabay connector).  This was working, but after upgrade to Windows 7, battery 2 (the external battery) gives an error. After getting a new battery from lenovo (old one under warranty), it does the same thing. Tech support is trying to look at this as a hardware problem, personally I think it is a software problem. Puttling laptop on X6 tablet ultrabase continues to work, it's just the battery. Ideas? contact me if you have one of these batteries and are running windows 7, I would love to compare notes. Hey Lenovo, how about getting your tech guys to actually understand what the differences in your batteries is?

Answer:Lenovo X61 tablet with external battery

I too have the X61 with two external batteries. I get the error Battery 2:The has failed due to normal wear and can not be charged. I "assume" I get the same error with the external charger as the charge lite flashes slowly for a couple of seconds then starts flashing fast instead of remaining steady on and changing to green when charged. Anyone know what this error really means besides it is broke and needs replacement.

Hi all,    I have a really annoying problem...my x220 tablet disconnects from the internet whenever I enter tablet mode. The internet can be working perfectly fine while in non tablet mode but as soon as I switch to tablet mode, my internet disconnects. And if I switch back to non tablet mode from tablet mode, my internet returns almost instantaneously. I can load a page in non tablet mode with no problems, switch to tablet mode and the page stops loading. If I return back to non tablet mode the page resumes loading without so much as a pause or a hiccup. Also, when I switch the computer to tablet mode, wifi networks disappear off of the "available networks" list that were there before the switch.     I've tried everything, from updating network device drivers, reinstalling network device drivers, running diagnostics, reformatting my computer, uninstalling Norton Antivirus, system restoring to days before the last known working date in normal mode and safe mode, and contacting customer support (chat and call, managed to get a hold of a rep) but none of them have worked.    I also used to have a networking log before I reformatted/system reset to factory settings and there were a ton of errors with words like avsc manager failed to "something" ... I'll reinstall the thinkpad network managing program to create another log. Can someone please help me? My last resort is calling lenovo support again to have tech support come to hel... Read more

I have a new X220 Tablet, and the Pen and Tablet functions work perfectly out of the box as long as the unit is on the Ultrabase. As soon as I remove from the Ultrabase (or boot while not connected), the Pen & Tablet functions stop working. Conversely, if I dock the X220, the Pen & Tablet functions begin working again. The behavior is the same regardless of whether I have an external monitor attached or not. Any thoughts?

Hi, I have here a X220 Tablet that seem to have a FAN problem.Often in the last days my CPU temperature is often over 90 CAnd the fan has problem to reduce the temperature.I have also situation that the CPU is going too hot and the tablet switch off! With the CPU tool TPFC.62 I can see that the fan speed is 2300-2500 RPMs.But this seams not enough to be. And now the strange thing:When I disable the graphic adapter ?Intel(R) HD Graphics Family? (Driver 8.15.10.2321) and reboot and do the same thing that I done to get the temperature over 90 C with the intel graphic adapter the temperature is not going over 83 C!!! The fan speed is 3500-3800 RPMs. Can someone helps me with this issue?

Answer:X220 Tablet FAN Problem - temperature over 90 °C - tablet switch off :(

Hi giciorek,

I understand that your fan/temperature problems can be frustrating.  I would try updating your BIOS and also updating Power Manager.  (Some on the forum have tried downloading ThinkPad Fan Control, but that is not an official Lenovo solution.)

Download Power Manager here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014924

Download BIOS Update here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS018805

In Power Manager, click Advanced at top right, you can Set Optimize Fan Control to Balance All Parameters under Battery Settings.  Set it to Reduce Noise Dynamically under AC.

Let me know if this helps.

I've been trying to find comparison pictures of the X220 with a 6-cell and 9-cell battery, without much luck. I want to see how much the 9-cell sticks out vs the 6-cell. Has anyone seen such a picture anywhere?

Answer:X220, 6-cell vs 9-cell batt

If you go to youtube and search for "x220 review" you'll see different variations in the different videos. Personally, I ordered mine with the four-cell (for around 5-6 hours of battery life when I'm out of the office for just a little while) to keep it under three pounds, AND the nine-cell (for 12-14 hours of battery life) for when I'm at an all-day conference and don't want to lug along the A/C adapter. For the extra two ounces of the nine-cell vs. the six-cell, who cares what it looks like when you've got 50% more battery life?

I dont know whats wrong with my accout "homman".But mayby you know me.I had hp touch smart > x61 > x200 > x201 > x220iT ( and x220T) > x230iTAnd what i want say?Computers keep getting less battery life. Why?Im know why.Historically, processors were able to switch almost from 0 MHz.Now for my x230iT (i3 3110M) Is impossible. Minimal frequency is 50%.So procesor minimal could take 50% of TDP. For me is 35W / 2 = abough 14W is possible. So if you want computer staying long time on battery. Procesor must switch to minimal freqency and have smal TDP.Lenovo dont create something for me from last 2 3 years. Only helix helix 2 and x230T.If you compare this product to  Toshiba Portage Z20T and Fujistru Stylistic q775.You say Lenovo Leave as.I remember theme on this forum. What x240T should have. And what? Lenovo dont create what wy need.On normal laptop t and x series  lenovo create swap battery and abougch 15h on battery. So if you want buy x201T x220T x230T you mast buy I5 is best option. Possible is 7W 9W and 5H And 10H with slice.

H Guys, I found it extremely frustrating that I couldn't find this information on Lenovo's website. Battery options for the X230T (tablet version) are different to the X230 (non-tablet version). The battery is a different shape for the tablet version and a totally different battery. In addition, I did not realiase that I can NOT use my existing Series 3 4337 Docking Station with my new tablet. This information is for the Lenovo X230T Tablet Version: Battery Options: 3 Cell Flat Battery (Part No. 0A36316)The Lenovo T230T has the option of a snug fitted 3 cell battery. This battery seems better for if you will use the tablet in portrait mode as the larger battery will sit pround of the bottom and side (see below). However, this battery does not provide anywhere near as much life as the 6 cell battery. 6 Cell 67+ Battery (Part No. 0A36317)OK, this appears to be the one they are raving about, that can give you up to 9 hours of use. However, this battery sSits proud of the unit by about 2cm (approx. 1in) on the side, useful for using as a handle. But it also sits about 1cm (approx. 1/2in) underneath. Very annoying if you want to use your X230T in portrait mode and lay it flat on a desk. Slice 19+ 6 Cell Battery (Part no. 0A36280)Link: http://shop.lenovo.com/us/itemdetails/0A36280/460/2D575BF5CD7E44E58547BFB52CC4F8E9This battery is amazing, it adds only 1Lb. to the weight and can add up to another 9 hours to the battery life. My old battery was barely holding a charge so I ordered a new 8 cell battery from Lenovo. It arrived yesterday. I put it in and charged it and worked with the tablet. When I unplugged it from the AC to move to a different room the screen went black. The Thinkpad had lost power completely despite the new battery. So I plugged it back in again and looked into the Power Mangager which showed the following information. As you can see the battery is brand new, has 0 cycles on it, is charged with 96%.Obviously the Thinkpad is connected to it and can read all the data, but the battery doesn't supply it with power. Does anyone know what to do? Is the battery defect? Do I need to send it back for a replacement? Or is there a fix? Thanks for looking into this! do you still have your old battery?  if you do, plug it in and see it the laptop works on just the battery, even for just a minute.  if it does, i would say that you have something wrong with new battery.  if it doesn't, then look at the connections on the new battery.  see if any of them are bent .  the connections to power the laptop are different from the ones that read the information.

The learning curve on this machine is steep if you want to take advantage of all the input options but I've put the time in and I'm starting to love it. There is one thing I wish Lenovo would address though. I see plenty of ThinkPad users with this problem going back to at least 2008, and no solutions forthcoming. The manual states: "On the display bezel near the screen is a row of buttons with which you can control your computer in the tablet mode, without the use of the keyboard."By default the buttons are set to turn your computer off, press CTRL+ALT+DEL, or rotate the screen 90 degrees. The manual goes on to describe how you can customize these buttons via the Tablet Shorcut Menu, which is accessed via Start > Programs > Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools > Tablet Utility. If you open this program you get a dialog box titled "Auto Screen Rotation Settings." This dialog controls what orientation the screen should switch to when you convert into tablet. So it really doesn't have anything to do with the buttons. The only dialog that allows any assignment of the tablet buttons is Windows Control Panel > Tablet PC Settings. Here the Buttons tab is supposed to list the actual buttons on the front panel and let you assign them, but the only one shown is the Screen Rotation button. This works fine, you can set the button's function for a single press and a long press. (Too bad it's not possible to use Shift by itself, but that is as-designed by MS.)It should go without sayi... Lenovo X1 Yoga 2015 i5 6200u 8gb ram Windows 10 home premium 52wh battery QHD Display Okay, just some background. I am a proud 5 year owner of a Thinkpad X220, which I still use.I purchased a X1 Carbon (non-yoga) 2015 model, I sent it back because it was having fuzzy text and lid closing issues. (The FHD screen is horrible) see my other post on that. Lenovo sent me a new X1, I sent it back for same reason. I got my X1 Yoga today. It looks, feels amazing, I wished it worked too, that'd be nice. I kind of wish they would test their laptops before selling them lol. Choose what closing the lid does... "sleep"... I close the lid, it sleeps. Open the lid, it beeps loudly and display does not resume, but keyboard lights on. I have to manually hold power button to shut down laptop. I turn it back on and it goes back to my windows I had open. I wish Lenovo would sell a Thinkpad X1 that when you close the laptop, it would sleep, and when you open the laptop it would resume, that would be awesome! Also, I had it in tablet mode, I put it in laptop mode, and the display remained in tablet mode. I had to go put it back in tablet mode and then back into laptop mode for it to show me the laptop display mode. #ridiculous Battery Life: It so variable. I have two external battery packs, the 3 and the 6 cell batteries. Neither of them will charge at full capacity. The laptop is brand new, as well as the two batteries.  The 6 cell battery is shown as charging, but it is stopped at 59%, and Power Manager shows 5:00 hours to fully charge (it shows this constantly, with no change whatsoever).  Similar problem with the 3-cell battery, stopped at ~75%.  I have deleted the battery driver from Win7 Control Panel. I have changed Charge Mode from alway fully charged to battery health and back to full charge, I have also tried 80% charge threshold.  Running Windows 7 (downgrade form Win8) Any advice?

Answer:uT440s Battery not charging to full capacity- 3-cell & 6-cell

Hi Radu_umbres,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are issue with the Battery not charging completely on your ThinkPad T440s.

To resolve this issue please restart the system connecting ?Power Adapter?. Wait till the system boot completely and then go to ?Device Manager? then uninstall ?Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery? under battery option. After uninstalling shutdown the system, remove ?Power Adapter? and reconnect, then switch ON the system and check if the issue still persists.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

I recently bought a Lenovo Thinkpad X220. However, after only 1 week use, i receive the error "The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery." In particular the battery meter indicates 48%, however when I remove the a/c the laptop immediately shut downs. The problem occured after only 3 charging cycles, when i upgraded the firmware to the 1.19 version and installed the lenovo's power management software. However, i cannot correlate the 2 events for sure. I tried to get back to a previous version, re-install (or remove) the power management software, however the problem persists. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Hi, I already had this problem on my X300, and the battery was basically dead. You need to replace it. Probably yours was defective. In my X300 it had append after 9 months only.

Hi Lenovo experts - I am having a strange issue with my new X270 laptop. I have been using it for over 3 weeks now. The X270 came with an integrated Li-Ion 3-cell battery (23 Wh) and also an external Li-Ion 3-cell battery  (23 Wh). With very light usage (just outlook and office apps) and brightness set to 25%, I can barely get 2h-2.5h of battery life. Is this normal? Per the PSREF, 3+3 cell should give me ~13h of battery life.  Anything else I can check? I did a 'battery report' and I see on average 45 Wh of charging capacity when active. However 'Battery life estimates' show between 2h-3h at full charge. 'Current estimate of battery life based on all observed drains since OS install' is showing 3:50.  Do I have a defective battery? Any advice appreciated!

For a Thinkpad T510 with 128gb SSD, i5-540 processor, nvidia 3100m 512 mb discrete graphics, and 4 gb RAM, does a 6-cell battery cut it? How much time should I expect with a 6-cell and with a 9-cell battery? Also, by how much does the 9-cell protrude past the back of the laptop?

Answer:Thinkpad T510 6-Cell vs. 9-Cell Battery

I have a 6 cell with my T510 and I'd say for normal usage (browsing internet on youtube, watching some news clips, reading email, surfing the net and stuff) the usual time I get on performance setting is around 2 hours.  If intend to take this out and use it for a day, 2 hours certainly won't cut it.

I'm considering a 6 cell battery since I hardly ever use my W520 without a plug, but I do carry it between home and work every day.  According to the specs for the 9 and 6 cell batteries as listed here:  9 cell  6 cell , they are both the exact same size and weight.  Are these specs correct?  I was under the impression that the 6 cell doesn't stick out the back like the 9 cell and would therefore be a bit smaller and lighter. Would anyone recommend not buying the battery from Lenovo?  Many accessories I'd buy from a third party since they're cheaper, but I feel like a battery is the kind of thing not to take a chance on (and would it void the warranty using a non-Lenovo battery?). Also, where can I buy a second 170W AC adapter (and power cord...not sure if that's included or not, it's not shown in the picture)?  I see the part numbers listed here but I can't find on the Lenovo website where to buy one.  I'm in Canada and the AC adapter that came with my laptop is P/N 45N0113 which I don't see on that list.

Answer:W520 9 cell vs 6 cell battery, AC adapter

Yeah no. The 6-cell is flush and is lighter.I'm not sure if using a third-party battery voids your warranty. You might as well call the sales hotline for the adapter. It should come with the cord.

Hello everyone. I have bought this flex 5 with 7th i5 CPU, 256G SSD, and 2 cell battery. The laptop is great for me except the battery doesn't last enough. I wonder if I can replace the 2 cell battery with a 3 cell battery? From the HMM, I find some 3 cell batteries. But I don't know if they are compatible with my computer as the voltage is different. And If the battery is upgradable, do I need to upgrade the AC adapter as well? mine is 2.25A, while 3 cell battery versions have a 3.25A adapter. Thanks in advance.

Hi, all!

I wish to purchase an HP dv5000t series laptop with a 12 Cell Li-Ion battery, but I saw a diagram on the HP site which showed a bulky mass at the back of the laptop, compared to a 6 cell which did not have this. It seems that such a laptop will not be able to sit flat on a desk.

Does anybody know from experience if this will be the case? If so, how bad of an angle is it? Will it interfere with normal use, etc?

Thanks! Your help is appreciated.

Answer:6 Cell Li-Ion Battery vs. 12 Cell (Physical Properties)

If HP sells the battery with the laptop then it'll work. While it may not sit flat that isn't a problem.

Hello,

eBags has a tool on their web site called the Laptop Bag Finder that let's you type in the dimensions of a laptop and it will return compatible cases.  You might want to measure your X220 with the various batteries installed, type the dimensions in, and see what comes back as a result.
