X201 Tablet Tablet MultiTouch Support (Newbie)

Question: X201 Tablet Tablet MultiTouch Support (Newbie)

I'm new to the Tablet community but excited to venture into it. My workplace provided me with an X201 Tablet type 2985 model C5U. The pen works great but I can emulate any of the finger/touch demos. Is this not supported with my type or model? Or do I need a special driver. When I open the tablet PC settings, I'm given the option to identify my screen as PEN or TOUCH. While I select TOUCH, no finger combination (one or two) that presses my screen will invoke anything. I was hoping this would be a touch solutoin albeit more powerful than the iPad. Appreciate your responses everyone. Thank you. L

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

hi, I recently bought a 2nd hand x201 tablet (3113WKZ) with multitouch / pen wxga screen, it doens't have a webcam and I want add one myself, seraching on ebay, there are various vendors selling the intergraded webcam for x201 tablet ( 60Y5745 or 60Y5750), my question is, is the installation as simple as plug and play, I understand the LCD brezel may have to be drilled to expose the webcam sensor, but electrically, are all the wiring plugs already included inside the LCD screen?

Answer:x201 tablet multitouch DIY upgrade webcam

The wiring should be there. The manual does not show different cables for machines with webcams. The bezel needs a different cover (sticker). I cannot find that available separately.

I just got a X201 Tablet with multitouch (2985-EYU). I saw that that Microsoft Touch Pack for Windows 7 was pre-installed, however when I try to run it I get an error "Multitouch Hardware is not available on your computer." Is this a known issue? I tried updating/'reinstalling the Wacom Two Finger Touch HID driver but I still get the same error. Thanks in advance!

Answer:Microsoft Touch Pack on Multitouch X201 Tablet

Hmm just an update, I had access to another X201 tablet fresh from the factory. I tried running the Microsoft Touch Pack and now it works--no error about multitouch device not detected. So then I tried running it on the original tablet, and now it also works. Kinda strange but I'm not complaining.  At quick glance it's mostly games. And there's a multiouch surface screensaver that mimics water. Pretty neat!

Hi, I was wondering if anyone would have any idea why my multitouch features stopped working after my system resumes from sleep/hibernation. It basically doesn't detect any multitouch feature but still detects the pen feature (although for the pen, the mouse cursor changes back to the traditional arrowhead rather than the dot that I'm used to). I'm not sure if this is that important but I never had a problem prior to this: I recently swapped out my HDD for a SSD (and is working beautifully). I'm just not sure I have all the drivers although ThinkVantage and other driver updating programs that Lenovo has released says my system is up to date. Thanks for your time,ExC

Answer:Multitouch stops working after hibernation (x201 tablet)

hi ExCit is hard to say what happen here. Curious to know, let's say if you put back the original HDD, does the error occur ?At the same time, do go to >> http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70656.htmland check if the software/driver version for your system is up to date.

Hello. We've got an unusual problem when applying driverpackage for lenovo x201.OSD with SCCM 2007.. The Audio driver installs successfully during OSD (with silent install switch) and in devicemanager we can see that the conexant 20585 Smart Audio HD driver has been installed. Same with "Intel screen audio". But in the Audio options in controlpanel all the fields is grayed out. There is with other words no associated soundcard / standard device. If we install the driver again, logged in as an user the recently grayed out fields in Audio options automagically now shows the correct input / output devices (Conexant audio) and the sound starts working. Is there some issue when installing drivers in SYSTEM context?Notice: There is no "?" in device manager. BR!

I have upgraded my X201 Tablet to Windows 10 32bit. As far as I can tell, everything is working, including the WACOM drivers and touchscreen.  Wireless has worked perfectly so far, not sure about Bluetooth as I don't use it. My only issue is that the buttons on the display do not work. The power button located on the display does work. I tried installing the Tablet Button Driver II and it will go through the install but the buttons do not work.  This is the download link:http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds027627 The document claims Windows 10 compatability and was Last Updated :08 Jun 2015. On inspection, all the files extracted are dated from 2012 and when trying to manually run the software Windows throws up an error that the software is not supported on this PC.   I removed and reinstalled and noted that the driver information page when running the installer does NOT have Windows 10 listed as a supported system. My assumption is that the driver that they have linked on the download page is NOT the most current driver and is infact the driver for Windows 7 from 2012. Does anyone know how to contact Lenovo to get the correct driver posted to the page, or know of an alternate source to try and find it?

3093-bf8 does not appear in the tabook reference so it was probably a custom build. Most X201 tablets do not support finger touch, but you can find the screen FRU by entering your serial number here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/partsLookup.page

Answer:lenovo x201 tablet 3113-94U support multi touch??(pen & finger)

Hi, btoymus23

I did some research on your machine and found its entry in the Personal Systems Reference. Machine type 3113-94U does not support MultiTouch, unfortunately. This information can be found in the link on page CML3-4 (use Ctrl+F to find it faster.)

MultiTouch, however, means to be able to use three distinct points on a touchscreen at once, not being able to use different touch inputs. I think you should be able to use your fingers to touch objects on the screen, though the pen might be easier.

Hope it helps,
Adam

I'd like to upgrade the display on my x201 laptop. The outdated TFT display is getting a bit old. And I could use some expert advice - or even intelligent guesses as to whether certain LCD panels will work in the x201 laptop. The usual advice to upgrade a x201 laptop display is to go with a Hydis AFFS (similar to IPS) display e.g. the HV121WX4-120. Or alternately a Samsung PVA display e.g. the LTN121AP02-001. These are CFFL panels, so given my LED laptop, I'd also need an inverter (42W8009 or 42W8010) and CFFL variant cable e.g. 44C9909.  Okay great. But for various reasons I'd very much prefer to retain the WLED backlight, rather than change to a CFFL display. There are any number of forum posts saying that this isn't possible. But that appears to be refuted by some well documented threads that describe successful retrofits of better spec LED backlit panels in their x201 laptops e.g. using a Samsung LTN121AT07-L02 (27R2451) WLED LCD. With that thought in mind, I'm trying to discern whether a x201 tablet screen will work in my x201 laptop? e.g. a Samsung LTN121AP0310 or Toshiba LTD121KX6B-110 LCD. These are multitouch LCDs. I'm not counting on the multitouch to be operational. Just whether the LCD screen will work in a conventional manner in the laptop. Has anyone heard of these panels being retrofitted into a x201 laptop? Or spot any obvious impediments to using them in the laptop?    --Stock (original) x201 laptop LCD: Au Optroni... Read more

I am new to this forum and also a first time Lenovo owner! First of all, I like to thank Bananaman sincerely and some other members for providing invaluable info. and insight re. x200 tablet. I am happy with my x200 tablet so far (ordered in mid Nov. '09 and received one month later), especially because it does have the 2 finger multitouch screen. To help people sort through this ordering/administrative mess, I like to summarize the various methods of identification I have learned from this forum. May you find the real McCoy! 1. On one of the sides of the shipping box, there is a Configuration label listing parts used to build the tablet, there should be something like (Description maybe different in different regions): Part#                        Qty                Description0000044C9488     L1 BASE     121WMFTLEDWXGA0000044C8703     L1 COPT     12.1MFTblWXGA 2. Go to Parts Lookup @ Lenovo Support http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?template=%2Fpartslookup%2FpartsLookup.vm&sites... and enter in the two boxes Model No. (without the trailing "-" & alphabets) and Serial No. These info. are on the shipping box and also on the backside of the notebook. I was experiencing some flakiness with my multitouch screen today where the stylus worked in the the laptop orientation but didn't work in tablet mode. Then, after a reboot, it later worked in tablet mode but not in laptop orientation. Usually, it works in both. I tried un-installing and then re-installing the multitouch drivers at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-67220.html. My reward was a screen that doesn't respond to touch or stylus regardless of whether the computer is in laptop or tablet mode. So, I tried following in the footsteps of my last problem with the X200 tablet and the stylus not working correctly.http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=X_Series_Tablet_ThinkPads&thread.id=3889 where I uninstalled the multitouch driver, installed the Wacom one at (http://www.wacom.com/tabletpc/driver.cfm?CFID=471857&CFTOKEN=20437195) which gave me at least stylus functionality (no multitouch), and then uninstalled the Wacom driver and re-installed the Lenovo multitouch driver. But unfortunately, I still had a a screen that doesn't respond to stylus or touch. So, I went through the uninstall process again hoping that re-installing the Wacom one would at least give me stylus functionality. But now that doesn't seem to work either, and uninstalling the Wacom driver and reinstalling the Lenovo multitouch driver still doesn't do anything either for either touch or stylus. Looking at the control panel, the multitouch driver seem... Read more

Answer:w510 multitouch screen - trying to use tablet stylus pen

I don't have the multi-touch screen, but I'm told that the manual says you should not use a stylus on the screen because it will damage it.  I also believe it does not work because it is a newer type of touch sensor that doesn't use pressure like older touch screens that supported a stylus.

I'm wondering if the x200 tablet with the new multitouch (multi-finger input) screen is showing up in the outlet store. If so, how can I tell if the unit I'm look at has this feature? Are there particular model or part numbers to look at? Or some kind of code or other indicator?

Answer:x200 tablet multitouch in the outlet store?

enhanced multitouch panels just hit the market late october.   chances are slim in seeing them in the outlet this soon.

however, if you do see them, they should be labeled "enhanced multitouch" or "touch with two-finger input" (or something along those lines).   any tablets labeled "multitouch" will likely be one-finger touch plus pen input.

Hi I'm having some problems with some of the multitouch commands. For instance the scrolling to the end of the document, when scrolling with 3 fingers and the show open windows thingy with 4 fingers, similar to the mac "active corners". I keep on hitting these effects by mistake when handwritting in files with pdf annotator for example. On top of that, theres an option that logs you of, I haven't figured out the finger combination yet, but it happens a lot. How do I turn of some of the multitouch commands while keeping scrolling with two fingers and turning with two fingers. I only managed to turn of all at once. Or have you managed to link a lot of very different options, so its all or nothing, even though some things are good and some are useless?

It's a long story but it ends with the fact that I'm looking to get another X200 Tablet. As much as I liked my first Multitouch Screen X200, I'm considering going with the SuperBright screen this time.I had the Multitouch with W7 running fine but I found that I rarely used touch. The pen just worked better. The incremental price is not an issue; more the quality of use for web and garmin mapsource etc. Could anyone advise about the comparison, eg. short comings of the Superbright screen in a pen-only use?

Answer:X200 Tablet Superbright vs Multitouch Screen advice please

The term Superbright isn't misleading, it makes a difference in sunlight and on more than one occassion our employees recieve complaints and requests to dim their LCD's by flight attendants when traveling on commercial airliners at night because it seems to annoy multile rows of seats behind them that it is impossible to determine just which passenger griped about it. A few of our staffers complain about headaches since they don't remember how they set their LCD to max and dim but one had learned how to use power manger and created a custom proifle to dim the screen when the battery fell to 99% capacity  but was embarrased to ask where the LCD dimmer keys were. After months of usage, our screens remain anecdotally as bright but we haven't used light meters to prove it,,,, some things are venerable including sungligt and these LCD's. Unless you plan lots of outside and sunny usage...you may just become prematurely and unecessarily blinded.

As you might have guessed this is about a screen malfunction. The past few days my tablet has acted very peculiar. First I had problems with onenote, where ink was moved around without any interaction on my part, and now this. Two days ago the screen just showed up as on the pictures and no matter what I did I couldn?t find the cause or any solution. I powered down and turned the tablet on after having waited for a few minutes and just like that the problem was gone. I have had several encounters with the same problem from that moment forward ? and it drives me up the walls :sI haven?t had time to contact Lenovo support, and even if I did then I don?t know how to proceed? So I?m asking here to see if anybody has encountered similar problems or know what may be the cause of said problems. The video where the problem is clearly shown: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epfVEo6iVVw

I have just received my new x200 tablet with multi touch and immediately upgraded it to WIndows 7. I can not get the digitizer pen nor finger gestures to work on the screen. This is my first tablet PC and I am bummed to have this issue on the first day. I am no computer wizard so it could be user error all the way. Please tell me i am missing something easy. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:x200 tablet w/ multitouch -- multi touch and digitizer pen not working

Just to cover our bases, have you downloaded and installed the latest drivers for Windows 7? Here's the multitouch drivers:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-73295 And here's all the others for Windows 7, just in case:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?subcategoryind=0&familyind=427841&brandind=10&... Forgive me if you've already done that. Other than drivers, I'm not sure what you can do to troubleshoot it. I know it works in Win 7, since I've read several reviews about the Windows 7 experience on the x200. Seth

Hello all, I just purchased a Lenovo X200 Tablet with enhanced multitouch on the 13th of November when they were having the nice employee sale. I customized the X200 enhanced multitouch package and added a whole bunch of features. I got the camera, turbo memory, 4 gigs of ram, fingerprint reader and the works. The only problem is I don't have any touch features (with my hand) at all. It only detects the digitizer pen. I thought maybe they forgot to install the drivers or something so I tried installing the touch drivers from the Lenovo website (my product number is apparently 7448CTO which is not freaking multitouch from reading on the forums). When I try to enable the Touch features it tells me that it did not detect any touchscreen moreover the tablet did not even come with the simpleTap software which had me really puzzled. Why did Lenovo do this to me?? I need it for university and it took really long to come. I really need those touch features not just the pen. Thanks Cal

Answer:TouchPanel Problem, X200 Tablet with enchanced multitouch - NO TOUCH FEATURES AT ALL

Colferns,I've had a x200 tablet multi-touch for a few months.  Just upgraded to win 7 and having problems getting the multitouch to work.  I wonder if the drivers are not working.  BTW, 7448cto refers to the 7448 model, "Configured To Order" - I know, not very helpful. It is strange, since in XP it worked okay (but not great).  I now look at my Control Panel | System and Security | System Setting and I see half way down the window a category called "Pen and  Touch:". I am dismayed to see "Pen and Single Touch Input Available". I hope some one replies soon with the right drivers.

The button with the circular arrow symbol performs a Ctrl Alt Del, the other 3 do nothing.

I've checked other forums and it seems they're starting to arrive now  elsewhere in the world so just wondering if they've reached the UK yet? Regards, Paul

Hi there, I realise that the x201 tablet does not have a iee 1394 firewire port but, was wondering if there is anyway to add this to the ultrabase 200 as an option because this does not seem to offer this option either - surely this would not be a difficult thing to add even as a cardbus ... or perhaps it is. Cheers

Answer:X201 Tablet and Firewire

Why couldn't you just use an express card in the laptop?

Hello, I bought a new x201T,  and I have a problem to configure the first button's function. (The button placed near the power on\off button in tablet mode). I had a X60T in which it is possible to configure all buttons (including the arrows). On the X201T, in the "tablet and pen settings" in the control panel, it is only possible to configure three of the buttons. Is there a way to configure the rest of the buttons?  Thanks in advance,George.

Hi,I would like to know if the signal from the vga connector is digital or analog because since I connected the x201 tablet directly to my monitor ( vga->vga [analog] ) the screen is flickering. So I guess that I should buy another cable to connect it to the dvi-d port of my monitor. but unfortunately there is no dvi port on this x201-tablet computer. Is there an advantage if I buy a vga->dvi-d cable ? Or will the screen still be flickering? Is the signal from the vga-port on the x201tablet a digital or analog signal? Thanks,Michael  Bildschirm - Philips 240SW (PnP-Monitor (Standard))                                                                                           Modus        1920 x 1200 (32-Bit) (59 Hz)                                                    ... Hi everyoneI have just gotten my x201 tablet, and have 2 questions.1. The screen has one dead pixel, is that common for x201t?2. I found neither the pen nor the touch screen is accurate. And because you can not see the cursor before you touch the screen, it's hard to catch a button or a menu item by touching. I need to try several times to get it even after calibration. Is it common for you?Thank you for your reply.

Answer:2 questions about my X201 tablet

My screen doesn't have any dead pixels, so I want to say that isn't normal, and I would try to get it exchanged. Calibration isn't perfect on any tablet, but when calibrating you need to try to calibrate it with the screen oriented how you will use it in tablet mode, and calibrate with the screen at whatever angle you will typically use it in. Typically the screen is the most accurate in the center and the least accurate along the edges. I've also read that it will never be better than how it was from the factory, so I just reset mine and have adapted how I write to the factory calibration. After a week or two you don't even notice if the stylus matches up perfectly on screen. But then again, if your screen is messed up, you might have a bigger calibration problem than what is normal. EDIT: My x201 doesn't have multitouch, so you should wait and let others chime in regarding multitouch calibration.

Hello, I recently purchased the X201 core i7 tablet with 8gb ram 500gb hdd superbright screen and i was obviously ecstatic when i got it from the UPS man  As a graphic artist I rely on pen sensitivity on tablets, and much to my dismay the pen sensitivity just didnt work at all for me. I since read the forums and realise that so many people have an issue with this and with much reading around i found that there were barely any answers/fixes. So, i will tell you what fixed this for me. Now this worked for me, it may not work for you but i hope it can help some people. I read on a forum elsewhere that for Photoshop you can fix this problem by turning OpenGL rendering off in Preferences->Performance. I did this and restarted CS4 and to my absolute delight it had fixed the issue, but not only for Photoshop! for the whole system! I must admit i had tried all the other fixes and merged installer fixes and none of them worked properly, but somewhere along the line i lost track of which drivers i was on when i got it working, but i do recommend trying this. Hope it helps and lenovo...... this laptop cost me £1700 and pen sensitivity is not supplied to me working properly! please please look into this and make it a core function as it is such a let down when youve looked forward to this otherwise brilliant piece of kit for so long. ruthy

I _just_ bought a new X201 tablet, and am very happy with it, except that the screen color is very yellowish or orangish. Green trees look brown, blue skies look grey. I tried both calibrating through Color Management in the Control Panel and endless adjustments in Intel's Control Center. It's as if there's just very little blue in the screen--a mechanical issue. Mind you, it's crisp and clear; it just makes everything look like a photo taken under incandescent light with a camera set for daylight..  Anyone else?

Answer:Color on X201 tablet

I've never seen that with a brand new machine, but it does tend to happen with IPS screens after a while - i.e. backlight wear.So the question is - do you see this color shift even in the BIOS screen? If so, you'll need to have it fixed under warranty.

Hello,I got a X201 Tablet with the multitouch display a month ago, it's an awesome machine, but recently I noticed a very faint CPU whine noise coming from the upper left of the body, close to the fan. the noise level is comparable to the noise of the fan at mid speed, so it's not terrible, but my problem and maybe same as other people out there is as soon as you discoreved, your brain tunes to it and you can hear it above anything, or I'm going crazy. My question is if this is something normal? the system is under warranty from lenovo, should I send it in, but any chance I will get it back with the same noise. I guess I can live with it if it doesn't become louder, but I don't know really want to do.. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Hi all, I ordered an x201 tablet (should be here within a week) but i just need a little clarification on a few things i couldn't really find answers to. 1. I purchased it without a WWAN card (as i didn't know WWAN upgradable meant you needed to buy a card separately) and i want both WWAN and GPS. Does the Gobi 2000 card on the lenovo website come with GPS? as there is no mention of it having GPS capabilities. 2. Is a screen protector worth it? I have a multi-touch screen, but after looking on the internet there seems to be a problem with screen protectors affecting the multi-touch features. (i'm not that bothered with scratches or smudges, but will not using such a protector create black spots?) 3. To increase battery life is it possible to install an express card SSD and tell the system to store frequently used items there? What sort of program would i need or will windows 7 do this for me? 4. It comes with a 1 year depot warranty, can i purchase more before the 1 year expires? is it worth it and what does it cover? 5. Is there a slice battery for the x201t like the T and W series? from what i have been reading the 8 cell battery doesn't get anywhere near the stated 8 hours, can anyone confirm this? Sorry for all the questions, probably should have researched a bit more before buying it. Regards, Dennis

Answer:Few questions about the X201 Tablet

Well i just got my X201 Tablet i can answer a few of these questions. -Screen protector won't work with multi-touch features so they are probably not worth it.-Installing an SSD card in the expresscard slot using (readydrive i think) won't really help battery life-warranty can be upgraded, but seems to be a hit and miss as most of the repairs on the x201 tablet are considered user payable items.-Battery life with very light use using an 8 cell battery is around 4 hours with half brightness and wifi. Still unsure about the gobi 2000 WWAN card. Can someone confirm that all lenovo Gobi 2000 cards come with GPS capabilities, if not, where would i find one with both WWAN and GPS. Thanks

Hey everyone, I ran Factory Recovery Disks in the thinkvantage tools and made both the Boot Disk and the Data Discs. I used a CD-RW disc and the Boot Disc was copied onto 1 disc, and the Data Discs consist of 14 discs.  My thought was that if I turn on my computer, push the blue thinkvantage button and then boot from my CD drive (in my ultrabay) it would take me to a Rescue and Recovery menu where I can then reformat my harddrive, and reload the machine back to factory settings, however what happened when I booted from my CD drive, was that it just started back up as normal. I've been at this since last night, and there is very little resources, I have absolutely no idea how to reformat my laptop. Please help. Edit: When I booted from the CD drive, I was of course, using the Boot Disc that I had copied. I haven't done anything with the Data Discs as of yet.

Answer:x201 Tablet - Windows 10

I have been testing this,  I have had the touch working in earlier builds but now the Live version installed on bare drive resulted in no bluetooth and no touch,   pen works, the touch was working in some of the very early build but I dont remember when it stopped,  I was just using the fast installs where it was updating the os from the prevous version not a complete reinstall.  On this last go round the device manager does not show anything that is installed that has a problem it just does not see the touch,  not sure if this might have something to do with it but it named the machine "Desktop......"  not knowing it was a laptop that might have touch>

Stylus works great in landscape mode but when I switch to portrait the pointer moves  all over the screen. I can't Calibrate because when I open it and get the screen touching it  gives no response. Tech Support wants me to re-image my computer  but I want to do that as a last resort since it will  mean several hours of reloading programs.  I think it is driver related.

Hello everyone, After a routine maintenance run on my X201 Tablet where I cleaned the insides and reapplied thermal paste (I wondered why one core is 12°C warmer than the other) my laptop will not boot, start or even acknowledge that an adapter has been plugged into it. When I finished with my cleaning, I went to start it up to see if the new thermal paste worked. The computer booted up right after I plugged the adapter in, but as I forgot to plug in the HDD, some self-diagnostic text started appearing on the screen. Quickly realizing my error, I didn't read what it said (none of it looked like error messages) and unplugged the laptop. After reassembly, it wouldn't react to anything (no LED indicators of anything), only static electricity keeps building up and kicks me. The only hardware that could have been damaged was the motherboard (cpu?) - this I know, because I had the old motherboard from X200 laying around and after I swapped it out, everything is working as it should. Question 1) Can anyone tell me, what process did I interrupt?Question 1a) Is there a way of restarting it?Question 2) As I did not hear/see any unusual flashes of light, or smells, or charred chips, I still think the hardware should be fine. Am I correct? Is this "just" a case of a bricked laptop?Question 3) How can I get my motherboard up and running again? Thank you for any pointers in my sad, dumb situation.

As there seems to be no user manual (those indicated by Lenovo support do not describe the machine at all) is there a source of info on this? For example my Touch Chip Fingerprint Co processorprint Coprocessor is 'working working normally' but how to turn it on and use it?The diagrams on top of the F buttons are a mystery - the one on F9 seems fairly clear but pressing this put the computer to 'Sleep'.  So what do the others do? I don't like to experiment and get into trouble. In Control Panel or anywhere else there is no mention of the webcam - how to get that going? I'd be grateful for any help.

If you press the button, nothing happens. Our sales people said, it worked fine with Win XP, but we are using WIn 7 (32 bit) now. I tried to reinstall Display and ThknkPad UltraNav driver, but the problem is still existing. I woke this morning to find my x201 tablet would not start or show any signs of powering on. Initially, I saw the power light (signifying it is plugged in) would come on, followed shortly after by the battery light which would flicker before they both turned off, then power light would come back on and the cycle would repeat. However, since first unplugging the computer to try it in various outlets I have not seen this happen. These indicator lights have an odd habit of remaining on: for example if I remove the battery the battery light stays on, and if I unplug the computer, as long as the battery is still in, it shows the "plugged in" light still on. I've tried powering up from various outlets, tried it with and without the battery and power cord, attempted the discharge static trick (removing the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds). Any ideas on what might be the issue? I'd love to figure out the root of this problem so I can work towards a solution.  EDIT: Tested power supply: it is working properly

Answer:x201 Tablet wont start

Hi, Try holding the power button down for 10 seconds and then pressing the power button again. If this works, it probably means the system won't wake up from sleep mode, and you had to do a hard reboot. I've been having the same problem with my Helix. If this works you can try looking at the system event logs to see what devices may be causing errors. I haven't solved my problem yet, but hopefully this at least helps you get started.

Was hoping someone might be able to offer some suggestions. I was sitting in my office working on my desktop, my X201 Tablet was on. Then I heard a beep - thought it went to sleep. Anyway, just  checked it now and it looks completely dead - no Z LED, no LED on the fingerprint scanner - nothing at all. Power button doesn't work at all, even when I hold it down. It's like it suddenly became a brick. It's out of warranty - just under 2 years since I purchased. Anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on what I might be able to do before paying to send it in for service? Needless to say, I'm extremely unhappy. One of the reasons I bought a Lenovo was because of their reputation for reliability. This is not good. Not at all.

Answer:X201 Tablet - seems completely dead

try to take off the battery and power adapter, then press on/off buttons ten times in 30 secs interval. After that try to power it on again with ac only and see whether it works. Also, try to take a measurement of the dc end of the power adapter, see whether there is 20 v difference to ensure that the power adapter is working properly.

It is fairly functional if I can disable the touchpad buttons, then I can use the trackpad buttons/touchpad for clicking. Unfortunately the ultranav driver keeps giving me problems... sometimes it will work and then randomly stop working and I'll have to reinstall or try something else.In short... Is anybody experiencing ultranav issues/know a solution? And is there anywhere I can get a replacement for my touchpad? Thanks

In the normal open position the right side of the screen is lower than the left. So if I rotate the screen the right side drags on the keyboard. Is this normal? If not does anyone know if it's possible to fix it?

Hi, I have the problem that whenever the systems needs more power (for example when I converte photos from raw to jepg) my sound interrupts quite often. Often I could hardly use my computer, because my courser is jumping over the screen and everything is very slow. I have found out that the task manager says that I uses 100% of my CPU. this would explain why everything is so slow, but i guess this isn't normal. I had a look at the event viewer and figured out that everytime before I have these problems I got the warning with event-id 37: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Processor-Power The speed of processor 0 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for xxx seconds since the last report. I saw this phenomenon with and without ultrabase and with and without battery mode. I used several different power profiles.I did a clean install and installed all drivers with lenovo systemupdate (except: Intel AMT 6.0 - Management Engine Interface and Serial Over LAN (SOL) Driver, ThinkVantage Active Protection System) my system:  x201 Tabletwindows 7 professional 64 bit - sp1Bios Version: 6QET69WW (1.39 )4GB RamSamsung SSD 380 I use Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 could anyone help me, or does anyone has an idea where to start to solve this problem.

Hi all I am having trouble with the internal SIM card messages with the SIM service on my X201 tablet. The SIM itself is working fine and I am able to connect without a glitch. The problem I am having though is my provider in South Africa sends text (SMS) messages with a security pin to my number when I log into the provider's website. Until now the only way I can retrieve these messages is to shut down, remove the SIM, install it into a phone, read the message, shut the phone down, reinsert the SIM in the laptop and boot up. Usually by this time the security pin has changed. Is there any way to access SIM messages and other services directly through the OS or some application to avoid having to shut down repeatedly? Thanks very much in advance. Hoox

Answer:X201 Tablet SIM text messages?

I think there was a message on these forums (maybe in the ThinkVantage Technologies subforum) where they stated this feature is expected in a future release of Access Connections.

1. Auto screen rotation . How to set it up? I know there is screen rotation button, but auto rotation will be much convenient. 2. I used Windows 7 professional 64 bit, 2 GB RAM, i7 core processor. When I start the system, it is much slower than my another laptop, which used same OS, 4 GB RAM, only i2 core processor. I was wondering if the memory is an issue. Thanks a lot

Answer:Just got a new X201 tablet on Sept.20 . two questions

Hi there. For auto screen rotation activate your "Table Shortcut Menu" by pressing the fourth button from the lower left side to the right of the screen (this is including the power button as no.1)Then click on the "Settings" button on the lower left side of the menu.Near the bottom there is an option to "Enable Active Rotate", checking that and applying it will ask you to calibrate it. Follow the instructions and hit ok to apply and exit the menu. As for the Boot Up time, I had the exact same issue was trying to figure it out for weeks! The best painless option is to hit your Windows+R keys to start the run command. Type msconfig and hit ok. Then in the System Configuration dialog box select the "Boot" tab. Click on "Advance Options". Only check in the option for "Number of Processors" and in the drop down menu select the maximum number of processors that is allowed. Hit Apply and enjoy the faster boot times. This drastically reduced my boot up time from 1:30s to about 0:20s on SSD!!. I am not sure if your machine came with an ssd but if you are planning on upgrading make sure to get a "thinkpad/lenovo" brand, its been a pain dealing with tech support and their policy with 3rd party hardware!Good luck!

Hi,

Can anyone help me find out the exact details of the system build based on this info?

3093-W42  S/N xxxxx 10/06

I have looked everywhen and can't find a thing.  Want to know if the unit has bluetooth and what kind of touch screen (pen single or multi).  I am guessing pen because of the build year.

Thanks

Answer:x201 Tablet build specs

Good day.

Based on that MT-M, here's what the original build configuration should be:
ThinkPad X201 Tablet (3093-W42)i7-640LM(2.13GHz), 4GB RAM, 320GB 7200rpm HD, 12.1in 1280x800 LCD, Intel HD Graphics, Intel 802.11agn wireless, WWAN option, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure Chip, 8c Li-Ion, WinXP Pro

Based on this: no bluetooth, and probably pen-only.

That's the best I can find.
Regards.

Answer:Recovery DVD for x201 tablet (windows 7 64-bit)

Good day and welcome to the community.

Short answer: you can't.

Lenovo OEM Windows recovery media is not available as a legal download. You should contact Lenovo Service (info below) to discuss your options for obtaining recovery media. They will confirm MTM and serial number, I believe, and there may be an associated cost.

Regards.

So, party kicked off at my house on the bank holiday weekend. Some unidentified twerp decided to enter my office and use my laptop as a urinal. Now it won't switch on. I have an X201 with which I got upgraded warranty support along with the Accidental Damage Warranty. Considering this, I thought it would be quite easy for them to address this issue. But no. This damage is classed as a "biohazard" and as such is not class as accidental damage.  Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful in explaining to the Romanian tech staff that the fact that it was ACCIDENTALLY damaged is immaterial as to whether it is a biohazard or not. Anyway, despite me forking out a fortune for the upgraded warranty, they are refusing to fix it. After much toing and froing, they are still arguing with me that it is a biohazard, despite the fact that nowhere in the t's and c's does it specifically exclude certain liquids or indeed biohazards. It does state that if they cannot repair it, they will replace it. Therefore I have been pushing for this option instead. I am being passed from pillar to post waiting for a response. It is an absolute joke. Does anybody have any advice as to what I should do? I was considering taking these guys to court for costs incurred in getting my laptop repaired elsewhere (which are quite astronomical in comparison to a simple replacement) but any contact details (preferably UK based) would be appreciated. Thanks in advance guys... Answer:Liquid Damage to X201 Tablet

Wow, that is some awful luck. I keep my home office locked most of the time anyway as I have smaller kids but especially during social events. You just never know. Anyway, sorry to hear you're not getting anywhere with support. Have you tried contacting local service partners? Looks like there's a few in the area. I think if you explain your situation someone should be able to help you, hopefully.

Sounds like it could be hitting overheat temperatures and throttling.1) Does the fan still run normally?2) Is the bottom of the machine get hot when the CPU spikes/freezes happen?3) Have you ever reapplied the thermal paste on your machine?

I have a crashed/doa x201 tablet with multi-touch which I can use for a donot (known good screen) and a perfect version x201 tablet with the simple digitizer screen. I'd like to upgrade #2 screen to multi-touch if possible.

Viewing the video on Lcd Panel I can see the LCD panel swap will be very simple, but wonder if the graphics card on the motherboard will still drive the multi-touch.

Donor Multi-touch machine type is 3093-A14
Transplant recipient type is 3093-W6A

Guessing if card will drive multi-touch a different driver might be needed?

It shuts down randomly and when it does it gives some noise in the vent.I initially thought its a battery problem and hence bought a new battery but this problem still exists.Strangely this happens only when the battery is on. When I remove the batter and directly connect the laptop with the charger, it is not getting shut down.. Any idea what is the problem ????

Answer:Shutting down randomly x201 tablet

I have sent to the service center twice.. They did a general service cleaned the vents removed dust but this problem is still happening.. Any idea what could be the problem ????

The lower right corner of the tablet screen is too sensitive; the pen is "clicking" even if it is not making contact with the actual tablet screen. This makes the tablet pen effectively useless and appears to be hardware error. I was able to reproduce this issue with the factory installed images of Windows 7 and Windows XP, so it does not appear to be a hardware issue. Can I please have RMA instructions for a refund on this system? Charge me restocking fees if you have to will, the system is in brand new condition but is unusable due to the tablet screen issue and the failure of booting cloned XP drives: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X201-Won-t-Boot-Blinking-Cursor/td-p/271217  Please respond ASAP, thank you.

Hi, I'm recently got a X201 and installed Win 7 x64 on it. Basically, everything is working except the 4 buttons on the screen section of the laptop. (The power button works tho). I have installed all the latest drivers on the lenovo website, and still cannot get the buttons working. I believe that this buttons help with the flipping on the screen when using it in touch mode. The touch functionality of the laptop works fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.Derek

Hi,I spilled abt 15-20 mLs of diet coke on my keyboard yesterday, powered down, removed the battery, saw the coke come outta the drains at the bottom (soaked up w paper towels) and sponged off the residual come from the top. I also removed the lil red button to make sure no fluid was stuck under it, and wiped out what I could. Afraid to remove keys for fear of not getting them back on right. My machine is out of warranty (and was a freebie replacement when my still under warranty x61 tablet totally died for the umpteenth time).I used a damp cloth to wipe down the keyboard/remove soda residue from the computer and placed it, along w the battery, in drierite and wrapped it in parafilm. My q- how long should i leave it in there to be most likely to be dry?Also- anything else a v non computer savvy person could do to increase the odds of it working? All of my data is backed up automatically, so thankfully that's not a concern. Thanks for the input!

'afternoon...
welcome to the community.

you may wish to download your pc's hardware maintenance manual:
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/45n3683_03.pdf
starting on page 95, you'll see the process for removing your keyboard. if you feel comfortable doing so, you could see if there is any obvious soda residue, from anything that didn't go through the weep holes.

hth a bit.

edit: video (select "keyboard" from the left sidebar) - http://service.lenovo.partner-management.com/content/CourseWarePublic/6625/course%20files/index.html
it shows as for the X200 tablet, but they are the same procedures.
