Preferred Solution: How to use Intel My WiFi Technology (Intel MWT)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: How to use Intel My WiFi Technology (Intel MWT)

I went to intel.com and downloaded the PROset/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility (the redundancy of "wireless wifi" bothers me, but I forged ahead anyway.) It'll let you enable My WiFi Technology to setup a Personal Area Network (PAN) that a second laptop will see as a WPA2 network and can connect to. So far, all I've been able to do is share my internet connection, which is kinda cool because it's using the same wifi card for two things at once. I suppose I can imagine some situation where this might come in handy, but I would really like to be able to setup filesharing with another laptop. Considering the intended use of a PAN I expect it's possible, but I didn't dig deep enough to figure it out.

Intel introduced a new driver for their WiFi cards, called the Intel My WiFi Technology about 9 months ago.  Here is the description from their website: "Simply put, Intel My WiFi turns a notebook into an Wi-Fi AP that seamlessly takes care of all of the Wi-Fi connection details, allowing users to quickly connect to their devices. Imagine being able to take a picture on a camera, and have it instantly get transferred to your notebook, digital photo frame, or personal media player and print wirelessly - all while remaining connected to the Internet." In summary, you have a WiFi connection at your hotel? Then this will let your Laptop become a wifi router, to connect your laptop to all other Wifi devices, on to the hotel's internet connection. Without having to bring a special Wifi router with you. This can only be provided by the system manufacturer (i.e., Lenovo) and not direct from Intel. SO...when will Lenovo release the latest Intel WiFi Drivers, and include this update with it???? Thanks.

MyWifi support is now available on Lenovo notebooks: Lenovo Japanese Website Just be patient while the driver gets integrated into system update.

First,  thanks for answering all my questions I get this message when I click on "Intel My WiFi Technology: Disabled", if I open the app, and try to enable it it, it says, no adapter found. What does this mean, it makes me think I have something configured wrong, also, when I bring the machine out of sleep, it will connect to the wireless router (Netgear N 600), but not the internet. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Answer:Intel..My WiFi Technology: Disabled

Ensure the switch is turned on and also use the hotkeys to enable the WLAN.If hotkeys does not work, uninstall the Lenovo Energy Management software then reboot the laptop then reinstall it and see if it helps.

Hello!
I don't know much about computers so I'm not sure what's going on with my laptop. For over a month my my laptop likes to disconnect from the internet all by itself. The internet connection itself is fine. My sister's laptop never looses internet nor does any other device in our house that uses WiFi. It only seems to be my laptop. Furthermore, "My Wifi Technology" always says WiFi has been disabled. I try to enable it but it still says its disabled. What's weirder is that usually my internet works fine even it claims WiFi is disabled.
I tried system restore just to see if it would help somehow, it didn't. I also scanned my computer fur viruses but nothing showed up. The only way I can connect to the internet again is by restarting my laptop. I'm wondering if I have fault hardware or something.

Hi, I have a Toshiba A665-S5170 laptop and the icon for Intel My Wifi Technology says 'Adapter not found' (but I am still able to connect to the internet). Should I be concerned about this? I rarely shut down my computer (I just put it to hibernate) and I'm afraid to do that or even restart it because the wireless might not work if I do.

I read that My Wifi technology is actually only meant to allow me to use my computer as a wifi hot spot, is that true? That would explain why my internet is still up and running and, if that's the case, I'm not sure if the network adapter working is a problem since I don't use my computer as a hot spot. Thanks for any help anyone can give!

I need help! I have a Pavilion dm4 laptop with Windows 7 Home with an Intel My Wi-Fi Technology. I have a wireless printer that worked as a wireless printer until about 3 weeks ago. The Intel My Wi-Fi Technology is disabled. I go the Control Panel>Network & Internet>Intel My Wi-Fi Technology and click to open it. The window that pops up indicates that the wi-fi is disabled. It has a green button that reads "enable". When I click on that button, it will not become enabled.

I have turned off the rotor, turned off my computer and printer and rebooted everything. Nothing helps.

What can I do?

I have a Y570 purchased in September 2011.  I recently had to reinstall my OS back to factory state using the Lenovo "One Button System Restore" process.  The restore seemed to work fine.   Prior to the OS reinstall, my Intel Wireless Display was working great with my TVs' wireless display adaptors.  Ever since the OS reinstall however, when I launch the Intel Wireless Display I get this error message:  "Unable to Start My WiFi Technology"  My WiFi connection still works -- I can connect wirelessly to my home's wireless router. It's just the Intel Wireless Display program that will not launch. In the taskbar, if I right-click on the "Intel My WiFi Technology" icon, and then try to click on "Enable"  (or if I click on the "Intel My WiFi Utility) I get: "Intel My WiFi Technology has been configured with a non-supported profile.  Instead, the default profile will be used."  There are no profiles listed -- it's a blank list. I cannot figure out what's wrong -- why it's no longer working.

Version 3.5.40.0 is the latest Intel WiDi driver. If you are using the Lenovo drivers for your wireless adapter (Intel 6300 AGN?) I would suggest going to http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wtech/iwd/sb/CS-031109.htm and downloading the appropriate software from Intel. You should be using the Intel drivers for your adapter and the Intel WiDi driver/softare package. Uninstall the Lenovo drivers and then install the Intel packages. Let the board know if that improves things. Good luck.

What's the difference? I own a Y580 and have been trying to get the start up time a lot faster after doing a clean install for Windows 8, and every time I install the software it makes no difference. I have heard that none of the Intel hard drive software is supported on the hm76 chipsets, and only Dataplex provides the software for this. I want to confirm this as well before deciding to purchase Dataplex.

Dear all,

Answer:Satellite A100 - Upgrading WIFI card from Intel 3945ABG to Intel 5300AGN

Don?t think that someone can give you a proper answer since the compatibility depends on the BIOS?
If the BIOS would support the new WLan card, then you could use it for sure?

The point is that motherboards is able to handle the miniPCI WLan cards? the module is just plugged to the miniPCI slot and its removable?
So there is just an question regarding the BIOS support and I?m afraid you will need to test this at your own risk

What WiFi adapter is shown in Device manager? I have been scheptical of whether the current Lenovo offerings are up to speed on Win 10 many drivers are 1st releases. They pulled the listing for drivers on the T520 and I updated that just to see what might happen although I got it working its sluggish for that system. WiFi is marginal with the MS drivers and Lenovo offers nothing for it now. I tried to search on my Z70 but I was unable to determine which adapter was specifically installed. 3 were listed in Lenovo build spec's but that still did not tell me which one is in only the family name.

In the BIOS there are two options for Virtualization Technology (under CPU).  These are disabled by default.  When should these be enabled?

Answer:Intel Virtualization Technology

My understanding of these settings is they will be helpful if you're running virtual operating systems.  I.e., if from Windows you are running VMware instances of Ubuntu, or MacOS, or other Windows instances.  The chipset offers this kind of virtualization software some shortcuts, but unless you need them regularly and are a power user you can leave them off.

Will someone please explain the differences in AMD processors and Intel. I don't understand how Intel, which have a much higher FSB, preform just the same or lower to their AMD counterparts. Is it because of the more instructions per cycle in processing that AMD is getting lower frequency speed in their processors, or they are just operating more effciently? Also with new technologies developing such as hyperthreading and the 64 bit chip, how will this effect how processors are created in the future? Will we ever see a 64 bit hyperthreading processor? Or will we never see one because of copyright protection? Which way is better for performance? thanks

Answer:Technology Differences : AMD vs Intel

BTW: The main reason I am asking this question, besides curiousity, is because I am looking to build a new system from the ground up, and the processor will ultimately decide the mobo. So, I want the best processor that money can buy at a resonable price and any reccomendations for mobo also could be of help. Thanks agian

Have we moved past this part:

You need to install the raid driver (from floppy) before (while) you're installing Windows. Push F6 at the prompt. You must have 2 SATA drives, and they MAY need to support NCQ. The standard WD caviars 320GB and below DO NOT. Model # Initials SE. The WD RE ("Raid Edition")drives ALL support NCQ, As do (I think) all the Seagate SATAs. On Intel's 965 boards, Viiv is only supported with C2D processors. You can't run a single SATA drive in the SATA mode (Intel calls it ACHI) unless you have Vista. With XP single drives run as IDE. I don't know how much of this applies to other mfgs. boards with the 965 chipset.

I recently started using Oracle VM VirtualBox to run other operating systems within Windows 7 (for running old games). For this, I have virtualization enabled in my bios (instructed to do so in the VirtualBox manual).

I also use digital multitrack recording software and hardware to create music, which I like to devote as much system resources as possible to when running (disable Internet connection, turn off firewall and anti-virus, close real-time defragmenter, etc.). Multitrack recording really pushes hard drive access, and the sound processors place heavy demand on the CPU.

My question is: Does the virtualization technology take up any resources, or slow my system down any? Would there be any benefit in disabling virtualization in the bios when I'm recording?

Thanks!
~Syn~

Can anyone tell me if uninstalling the Intel Rapid Storage Techonology would cause issues with the CD/DVD? The system is recognizing it as it shows up when you view hte computer but programs can't access it. I have run the troubleshooter in Windows and it couldn't detect any problems. The only thing that has changed is that I have installed the Rapid Storage since it was causing my laptop to run slow and giving me errors. Since uninstalling, my laptop has performed nicely except for the CD rom now. I need to get this to working so I can burn some CDs.

Answer:Intel Rapid Storage Technology & CD/DVD

Look for an update to the chipset drivers for your motherboard, see if there are any yellow or red "bangs" in the control panel. If none are present, and there are no issues with windows update then try reinstalling the Intel drivers.Good luck.

Hi guys,

I have a HP 8510w laptop with the following specs:

- Windows 7 64 bit ultimate
- Intel core 2 duo 2400 mhz
- 4 gb ram memory
- nVidia quadro FX570m GPU

I get problems when playing UT2003 demo.
The game goes from 200% speed to just 20% speed the whole time, I found out that this is the fault of Intel's speedstep technology. Whenever I change the settings in power management, the situation improves. I already tried putting minimum powermanagement and maximum powermanagement both on 100%.

The best result I can get is putting min and max both on 20%, but the problem stays. I would like to know how I can permanently disable speedstep in bios and in windows? My current bios version does not support this.

I'm sure of it that this is not a videocard problem or whatsoever, games like starcraft 2 are doing fine without any problem.

I hope you guys can help me out.

Answer:Disable Intel Speedstep technology

I'd set Speedstep to only run when battery powered and to run at 100% when on AC. There's usually a program running in the System Tray near the clock that controls it, failing that, there ought to be one in Control Panel, look for Intel ... if you don't have that, visit the Intel site and look for Speedstep software.

If your're trying to set the W7 Power Management, again, I'd set everything to max power on AC and something lower for DC.

Your graphics card shoud be fine for the UT demo and great for 2D work.

In order to save power, the DVD drive shuts down when you are not using it.  Whenever that happens, the disc is unmounted (since it has no power) and the little message says that the drive is unmounted.  Nothing to worry about.

Q1. What is the MAXIMUM Turbo Boost technology for i5 760 2.8 Ghz without overclocking the CPU? below are my hardware specs.
Q2. Example: An application needs 3 Ghz clockspeed to run smoothly.

Will i5 760 @ 2.8 Ghz convert to 3 Ghz?
Specs:

i5 760 2.80 Ghz
Mobo = DH55PJ
4 gig corsair ddr3
GTS250 1 Gig ddr3 256 bit
2 TB Hard Disc.

I need a good simple answer Q1 and Q2.

Tnx!

Answer:Intel i5 760 @ 2.8 Ghz Max Turbo Boost Technology

Max Turbo Frequency 3.46 GHz

The CPU automatically steps the multiplier based on load and number of cores used:

Up to 1 core used at 3.46 GHz. On CPU extensive apps, expect to get the 2.93GHz speed, as all 4 cores will be used. This is of course at the stock 133MHz BCLK.

Hey all, I just wondering, do you all have activated the " Intel Virtualization Technology" ? on ideapad ? since I can't use vmware and the root cause maybe from there. I wanna install 64-bit OS on OS guest into vmware workstation 6.04. And it's says that the host CPU is not cappable running 64-bit virtual machine. So I search the error on vmware and they say like this "Intel CPUs require EM64T and VT support in the chip and in the BIOS." Well I'm quite sure my chipset is EM64T because i using Y450 on P7550 platform, so and then I see they(vmware) write "Firmware/BIOS support is required to enable Intel Virtualization Technology. Some systems (particularly laptops) do not have the necessary firmware/BIOS support to enable Intel Virtualization Technology, and cannot run 64bit guest operating systems." So know i'm very confuse how to activate this Intel Virtualization Technology, since my BIOS only can set wireless LAN, start up, and time... LOL Are there any upgrade on Ideapad to activate this thing ? Thanks & kindly regards, George Felix

I've been trying to get Intel's Rapid start technology working for quite a while now -- I've downloaded all of the drivgers for my motherboard and etc, but I can't install the rapid start software because it tells me that "This Computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software".

At first I thought it was that my 950 Pro was not partition properly, but I've now followed Intel's instructions and created a 'Hibernate' or whatever partition for it, but that doesn't work. I've also currently got 16GB of storage unallocated on the SSD which is double the amount of RAM I currently have in my system because some people recommended unallocating some storage + a little bit extra.

Now that I've fiddled with that for quite a while, I double checked that it was enabled in the BIOS and found that it says "No Valid Partition" in the settings for Intel Rapid Start. I think this could possibly be due to the fact that I am using the 950 Pro through a PCI Adapter?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm really stuck and have been at this for hours.

Hello harryoui,

Not sure if you are still looking for an answer?

There is a problem if you install the Intel Rapid Start technology before you create the partition. Reading your message it looks like this may be what you did. I would recommend uninstalling the Rapid start technology and then reinstalling so that it can detect the partition properly.

Hi all... I have been looking at the Intel Anti-Theft technology for my T510i... but I am a little unclear as to what is actually required to activate it. First of all I am interested in the Whole Disk Encryption option. How do I activate that? Should I be aware of anything now that I have both Windows 7, 64bit and Ubuntu installed. Do I have to pay extra for this service, since this doesn't rely on an online service. Second I would like to know how to enable the Remote Disable and Destroy. Again, I am not sure how this works? Do I have to sign up for and pay for a specific service? Where do I do this if I want this option? I have the operating systems installed and working, and I want to know if I can enable the whole disk encryption without reinstalling everything? Thanks,Jay

Hi, Rapidly tapping the ESC key after power on should get you to Startup Menu and from there you can select Computer Setup (bios). If you can't get to the Startup memu using the ESC key then you will need to take a longer route to get into the UEFI settings.  Review this procedure. The below image is reflective for the Leeds motherboard in your PC. There is not a lot of differences between the below image and that which Paul had posted.  You will need to change the Disable to Enable and then save the settings. The other changes will require Windows 8 Pro or higher and also to enable the function under Turn Windows Features On or Off.

I built a new system for a relative using the H87-G43 MSI board. I have set up a SSD 64 GB to be used as a Caching disk using Intel's Rapid Storage Technology.

I followed the set up procedure which required a BIOS change to RAID Mode before the OS was installed. So I have one 500 GB drive that is accelerated and the 64 GB SSD that is being used as the caching drive.

No errors or BSOD's when booting, I had to enable the drive in the Intel console for this(it sees the drive just fine) to work. The Intel Rapid Storage Technology(Intel SRT) really improves boot times over just using the mechanical drive. It is not a performance issue I am having just a reporting issue I think.

The question I have is about how Windows is reporting the drives in Device manager and computer management.

Windows 7 shows the information below in bold.

In device manager only the 500 GB drive is shown and it is shown as a SCSI device.
In computer management only the 500 GB drive is shown.
Both drives are shown in the Intel management console for this technology.

The computer is running fine and zippy, I am just a bit concerned about the 500GB drive (SATA) being reported as SCSI. Funny I downloaded SPECCY and it shows it as a SCSI drive as well using a 40 pin cable.

Any help, thoughts, ideas, or experience with this technology that could enlighten me would be very helpful.

Thanks

I wonder if I should turn it off in BIOS. Also, are hibernation and standby modes reliable, or is it better to just turn off the computer instead?

Answer:Is Intel Rapid Start Technology of any use without an SSD?

Hey there lenssd9,

Because the Rapid Start Tech. require an SSD, but I don't think itreally will make a significant difference one way or another if you disable in BIOS. For addional information regarding this from Intel: http://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/rapid_start_technology_user_guide.pdf

The hibernate and sleep modes are reliable/useful. A quick rundown from Microsoft on the differences:

Sleep is a power-saving state that allows a computer to quickly resume full-power operation (typically within several seconds) when you want to start working again. Putting your computer into the sleep state is like pausing a DVD player?the computer immediately stops what it?s doing and is ready to start again when you want to resume working.

Hibernation is a  power-saving state designed primarily for laptops.  While sleep puts your work and settings in memory and draws a small amount of power, hibernation puts your open documents and programs on your hard disk, and then turns off your computer.   Of all the power-saving states in Windows, hibernation uses the least amount of power. On a laptop, use hibernation when you know that you won't use your laptop for an extended period and won't have an opportunity to charge the battery during that time.

Ultimately these modes are great for resuming work quickly, without having to do a fresh boot.
Hope this clears some things up. And Thank you lenssd9 for being a ... Read more

I have just purchased a Lenovo B50-80 (80LT00H5US)  i3-4005u Notebook (April 2016).
I noticed a Application installed called "Intel Rapid Storage Technology". It has a 500GB HDD Hard Drive.

Is there a good reason or reasons that I use it? If there is what are the advantages for me, a guy who uses mail and browses and sometime watches a movie on it.

Answer:B50-80 - Intel Rapid Storage Technology APP?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

The main reason for using it is performance of the hard drive.  The Intel Rapid Storage Technology application not only aids in better hard drive transfer speeds, but will also keep power consumption to a minimum.  Whether you are just browsing the web or watching a movie you will find the Intel Rapid Storage Technology of benefit to you.  For more information on Intel Rapid Storage Technology please visit the link I have below.....

Hi, I have just bought a Lenovo Thinkcentre E3 Product Code 10AU003BMS and updated the BIOS. There is no option to enable Intel VT! The processor fully supports it. Is there another way to enable it or a hacked BIOS I can use? Has the option moved from CPU as I cannot find it any where else? Any help would be great. This is a business machine which needs to run hyper V so I can do Lab support work. Thanks Keith

It is not my native language.) I have Lenovo 3000 N200 0769-BAG with T2310 processor and I very strong need "Intel Virtualization Technology" at this laptop (for RHEL6 - KVM). I found that BIOS supports Intel T8300 support.lenovo.com - BIOS Update Utility  (Summary of changes --> Version 3.03) and this processor has VTx feature. intel.com - T8300 but searching the net I was not able to find any confirmations that this laptop will work with this processor as I need with VTx feature. I have found also posts containing doubts. ( forums.lenovo.com - N100 and VT ) So, before I spend my money buying T8300 I would like to be sure does BIOS and motherboard support also VTx feature. Can anybody help me? Thank You in advance for any replays. Regards. Jozek

My notebook Toshiba U840, which come with 32 GB SSD + 500 HDD. It applies Intel Rapid Storage Technology to speed up the performance, recently, I try to upgrade my HDD by replacing SSD, I use Norton Ghost clone image to SSD, but when I restart window,
it pops up to config Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) and cannot go to BIOS at all. (I get all the back up and keep original 500 HDD untouched. )  I get no idea on how to set IRST, but it offers following options:

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hello, I am new on these forums. I am not completely computer literate, but I understand a decent amount to get me by. I came here specifically because I had some trouble with a re-format that was done one my hard drive. I had a friend (Who I thought knew what he was doing) reformat my hard drive. Well, unfortunately for me he did not and did a quick format with my hard drive plugged into another computer via USB, and it completely screwed my hard drive. So I did whatever and got my computer to recognize it once again made a new volume ect. Once that all happened I found that I am having some trouble as far as re-installing Intel Rapid Start Technology. My computer has a 32Gb SSD in it specifically for a caching process that I believe is used to make the boot up go so fast. My problem that I have come into is that the directions that dell gave me to put rapid start technology back on my computer is not possible for me to follow. I have a SATA AHCI hard drive that I dont think I can set to RAID mode and I cant get into the acceleration tab on the intel rapid storage technology mangment; simply because It does not exist for some reason.....If you need any further detail I will be more than happy to provide them to you... All I need is to know how to get my computer to boot up like it did when I bought it. I have a dell 17R SE

A few years ago Intel made a special feature Anti-Theft Technology. Also, both hardware and software makers indicate that they now are using some kind of new technology to prevent or reduce the theft of small computers. Here is an article:https://www.intel.com/content/dam/doc/product-brief/mobile-computing-protect-laptops-and-data-with-intel-anti-theft-technology-brief.pdfSome say that it is better not to talk about this because it might make it easy for criminals to find a loop hole. But other say taht public knowledge about it woul be best for everybody. Users should know about the anti-theft features already inside of the PC they bought.Other articles mention something called Secret Control - Anti-theft 3.0 I mention this because in the past many have come here to le4arn how to circumvent BIOS passwords.  We know thing some of these may have been criminals trying to sell a stolen PC or laptop.I do not have a PC with the newest stuff, so I am not aware of how these devices work. I believe that there is a way to shut down a CPU by remote control. ButI have not read a full disclosure of how this works. So my question is: Now can we can talk about this kind of thing on this forum?

I understand what Intel Turbo Boost technology is and how it works.

What I would really like to know is "....does it do what it says on the can...." In practice does this technology really work seamlessly in the background as your computing demands vary depending on your current needs?

I am currently considering the purchase of a computer with an Intel® Core™ i5-4200U Processor that is rated 1.6 GHz and 2.6 GHz with TurboBoost, incorporating a 3 MB cache. Some of the work that I do is as mundane and low-usage as Word or Excel and a 1.6 GHz processor is more than adequate. But much of the work that I do is graphically intensive and I expect that at 1.6 GHz the processor will fall over but at 2.6 GHz it should be just fine.

In the real-world of hands-on use is this Intel Turbo Boost technology the answer to vastly different workloads such as that described above...

I've got a Lenovo ThinkPad SL 400 which it's suppose to support 64 bits systems. I'm running VMWare Workstation and I need to be able to create 64bits virtual machines but Intel VT option doesn't appear in the BIOS (AMI 1.23 version) of this laptop. Can anyone help me out with this? I can't believe that older laptops (T's) come with this option and this newer one not.

Please help. I have no idea what Intel Rapid Storage Technology is. I've heard it used in reference to RAID (which I have no idea what that is), but I have heard that it increases performance and battery life.

Problem is, sometimes my computer starts to glitch and the sound gets all distorted and things start to respond really slowly (especially games that use flash) and I'm sure it has something to do with the Rapid Storage Technology because every time I hear that distorted sound, the little Rapid Storage Tech balloon pops up and says something about detecting a port or deleting a port. And the only way to get my computer to start acting normally again is to restart it.

Any ideas?:confused

Welcome to the Sevenforums!

You might want to uninstall the application from Control panel => "programs and features", then reinstall the Intel Rapid storage Technology. See if it's works.
