X200 Tablet rotation and tablet buttons problem

Question: X200 Tablet rotation and tablet buttons problem

Hi I have installed 64bit windows 7 on my machine quite recently in order to utilise the extra ram. When i rotate the screen clockwise to tablet mode, the screen will auto rotate to primary potrait by default and the buttons will work as usual. However, when i swivel my screen anti clockwise to tablet mode, the screen will NEVER auto orientate to primary potrait mode and all the tablet buttons will not work if i rotate the screen ANTI CLOCKWISE. Can anyone help me on this? Thanks alot in advance for the replies

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Try checking if the SHIFT key is actually one of the items on the drop down menu in the tablet pc button settings.

Hi I've looked at every category in the drivers matrix and absolutely cannot find the drivers that control the Tablet buttons on my tablet screen,  Can anyone point me to a link???  I found another thread on this forum that talks about a similar issue and someone posted a link to beta drivers, but the link doesn't go beyond the main Support home page at Lenovo.  Thanks, -G

Hey there Cr0sschex77,

To get some clarification to better direct you, what operating system are you currently using? Additionally are you referring to physical buttons or "buttons" on the touchscreen once at the desktop? Thanks Cr0sschex77!

I recently did a fresh install of win 7 64-bit on my thinkpad x200 tabletpc, updated all the usual drivers and software from lenovo and windows update. Whenever I rotate my display into tablet mode, I always get the message 'USB Device Not Recognized' in the system tray, windows then trys to find and install device drivers for it but is unsuccessful every time. I have tried to find device drivers to fix this without any success. In device manager, I see the culprit highlighted under Universal Serial Bus Controllers with a yellow exclamation mark sign beside 'Unknown Device' with a location of Port_#001.Hub_#002. I have tried uninstalling and and reinstalling this, still no success. I have tried to disable it merely to stop the annoying prompt from the system tray yet it still comes back and warns me of the same problem. Has anybody else experienced this ? Does anybody have any suggestion for solving the problem ?I'm guessing it is related to the display driver, I will try installing/reinstalling another version of that to see if that fixes it. I'm starting to doubt the integrity of this tablet, I've begun to notice a lot more driver and USB conflicts lately..

Did you install the Cipset driver.
I guess, this is missing and so unknown devices cannot get recognized well.

Because I was planning to upgrade my hard drive I immediately also installed Windows 7.Everything turned out fine except 2 things.:The tablet buttons on the bottom of the display don't work. I tried installing and reinstalling the Button driver (Click here for driver I used.) but it will not install properly because the buttons still don't work. I have a feeling I need another extra piece of software but I don't know which. The finger print software will start up after I logged in with my fingerprint. Hi all, I have recently upgraded to windows 7 (64bit) and now when I  put my tablet into tablet mode, the screen doesn't autorotate and none of the tablet buttons work. In order to rotate the screen I have to right click on the desktop and choose graphic properties/rotation.Interestingly if I press the tablet buttons while in tablet mode and then rotate the screen up to notepad mode within a few seconds the button will perform its function (rotate screen, activate tablet shortcut menu, etc). Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I've tried running system update (4.0) to no avail. Cheers

Does the Fingerprint Reader for the X200 Tablet have a driver for Windows 7?  I tried installing it manually and got an error that says it's only for Windows Vista, and upon using the System Update 4, it does not include the Fingerprint driver either. Also, the Tablet Buttons do not work ever since I switched to W7 either.  I have installed every update I can find through System Update and the site, and those that will not install say they are only for Vista.  The Tablet Buttons are a big issue, they are very useful and very essential to working in Tablet Mode.  I don't care as much about the Fingerprint Reader, I can get over that, but the Tablet Buttons are very useful. Are they working on a driver for them or something, or should I just give up on them?  I really liked using them when I was in Vista. Any information would be great.

All worked fine for about a month.  Now, none of my tablet buttons work.  I don't get any error message.  They simply do nothing.  I've rebooted with no response.  I can't find any place to enable/disable, in case I did that by accident. The only change I can think of that may have coincided was to reinstall the fingerprint software (what came with this didn't work). It does re-orient itself when I rotate the screen into "tablet mode". I am running Windows XP. Any ideas?

Hey Zebra, I recently had an rtfm moment with this issue.  I had installed and reinstalled the Tablet Button Drivers... or so I thought.   Checkout the readme for the driver.  After you double click the .exe, it looks as if it installs, but all that does is extract the files to a folder on the HD.   Probably here C:\DRIVERS\WIN\TBBTN unless you changed it.  Go there and click setup.exe.... you'll have to reboot when it is done.  HTH

Hey all, I have a weird problem.  My tablet buttons have stopped working-- but only in tablet mode.  That is, I can't rotate, or bring up the tablet shortcuts, or move around the screen in tablet mode.  Also autorotate doesn't work.  But if I switch out of tablet mode, I can do all of these things just fine (except for autorotate). Also, when I switch into tablet mode the screen doesnt rotate or anything, but when I switch out of tablet mode the screen rotates to the direction I defined in the settings (sometimes.. to be honest it seems pretty random to me).  I am running 32 bit vista w/ 4 gb ram on an x61 tablet with the latest drivers.  I have uninstalled the tablet button drivers and the lenovo system interface and reinstalled them already.. I have the latest APS. Help me out here.. I have no idea why this isn't working!  Don't make me have to reinstall vista to get the buttons working.. Tha'ts ridiculous!!  Arrrgh.

I have upgraded my X201 Tablet to Windows 10 32bit. As far as I can tell, everything is working, including the WACOM drivers and touchscreen.  Wireless has worked perfectly so far, not sure about Bluetooth as I don't use it. My only issue is that the buttons on the display do not work. The power button located on the display does work. I tried installing the Tablet Button Driver II and it will go through the install but the buttons do not work.  This is the download link:http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds027627 The document claims Windows 10 compatability and was Last Updated :08 Jun 2015. On inspection, all the files extracted are dated from 2012 and when trying to manually run the software Windows throws up an error that the software is not supported on this PC.   I removed and reinstalled and noted that the driver information page when running the installer does NOT have Windows 10 listed as a supported system. My assumption is that the driver that they have linked on the download page is NOT the most current driver and is infact the driver for Windows 7 from 2012. Does anyone know how to contact Lenovo to get the correct driver posted to the page, or know of an alternate source to try and find it?

The learning curve on this machine is steep if you want to take advantage of all the input options but I've put the time in and I'm starting to love it. There is one thing I wish Lenovo would address though. I see plenty of ThinkPad users with this problem going back to at least 2008, and no solutions forthcoming. The manual states: "On the display bezel near the screen is a row of buttons with which you can control your computer in the tablet mode, without the use of the keyboard."By default the buttons are set to turn your computer off, press CTRL+ALT+DEL, or rotate the screen 90 degrees. The manual goes on to describe how you can customize these buttons via the Tablet Shorcut Menu, which is accessed via Start > Programs > Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools > Tablet Utility. If you open this program you get a dialog box titled "Auto Screen Rotation Settings." This dialog controls what orientation the screen should switch to when you convert into tablet. So it really doesn't have anything to do with the buttons. The only dialog that allows any assignment of the tablet buttons is Windows Control Panel > Tablet PC Settings. Here the Buttons tab is supposed to list the actual buttons on the front panel and let you assign them, but the only one shown is the Screen Rotation button. This works fine, you can set the button's function for a single press and a long press. (Too bad it's not possible to use Shift by itself, but that is as-designed by MS.)It should go without sayi... Hi there, I hope someone can answer me a little querstion. I recently bought a x61 tablet and am really happy with it. Although I could be much happier If someone could help me with the following problem. I use Photoshop often, very often and for that reason I use the shift key a lot. In order for me to use it in tablet mode however I always have ot open the lid enough for my hand. I tried to map the tablet pc buttons in the control panel but it doesn't let me. I can map ctrl and alt and all of those but not shift. Is there some secret way to map the shift key? Or do I have to use some loophole and remap one of my normal keys. I hope someone can help me or at least tell me there is no way to do it. It would be greatly appretiated. Thanks in advance Pix (Short for Phoenix )

Answer:x61 tablet - How to map Shift key to tablet buttons?

I don't really have a direct solution for this since I want to customize them as Ctrl, Shift, all kind of this as well. However, there is a workaround that I found it's really good. What you have to have is "Mouse"  wired or wireless doesn't matter. Though I do recommend you to use wireless and Logitech as a brand. The reason why I recommend Logitech is because they have real nice SetPoint program which allows you to customize every buttons on your mouse. Then just map one of them as "shift" It works perfectly.. One hand with pen and another on mouse. I think Razer and Microsoft are another brand I know which have this feature in their software.

Hi,. the particular model of my x200 is 7453-FJ9. I bought it from ebay and the seller claimed is was multi-touch. After checking on the Levono support page where you identify the machine features through the model # above, it does not mention anything about being touch capable let alone multitouch. However, since I installed a new copy of windows 7 pro 64-bit on a new hdd, after installing all of the automated lenovo and windows updates, I checked the system properties and it states 'Pen and Single Touch Input Available' as shown in my system properties screen below.

Link to picture

I have tried to use the single touch input but it does not seem to be working. I have tried calibrating touch input though the screen calibration and it has not worked. I have looked at the HCI devices in the device manager and it shows 'Wacom Penabled MiniDriver','Bluetooth Remote Control', 'HID Compliant Consumer Control Device' and several repeated entries of 'HID-compliant device' but nothing about touch input !

I don't understand what is going on, do you think this tablet has touch input available ? Should I try install the touch driver on the lenovo website ? the wacom website ? or am i just wasting my time thinking it has touch input since it is not mentioned on the 7453-FJ9 lenovo support page (that I can see). Any advice on this would be kindly appreciated..

Hey, folks -- I've discovered recently that the screen mapping for my pen is rotated when the screen is in any mode but Primary Landscape.  For example, in Primary Portrait, when I put the pen in the top left corner, the cursor is in the bottom left; when the pen is in the top right corner, the cursor is in the top left.  I've tried recalibrating the cursor, but the problem immediately returns when I'm done.  Furthermore, the click animation is displayed in the incorrect corner AS I'M RECALIBRATING.  This is very annoying. Anyone have any thoughts?

Morning to all reading, I have a few problems with my x200 tablet that i am very annoyed with:1. On low brightness the screen flickers (up the top) and i cannot work. I travel a lot (overseas) and this is a problem as i need battery life and can only work in full brightness. 2. I have some sort of stain on the inside of my screen, it does not look like a dead pixel to me, it looks like a stain. I bought my ThinkPad x200 tablet at the end of February this year and when I received it I called the helpdesk for Australia and spoke to them about my problem. They told me that if it is a dead pixel they have to replace the screen and it will cost me like $900 and if I don?t choose to do this I have to pay for them to release it. Now I think this is the (excuse me) crappiest service I have ever received. I bought a Lenovo because I am in business and I travel and I heard their tablet was the best you could possibly get. If I knew the service would be like this I would have paid extra elsewhere to receive better service. Now for a company as reputable as Lenovo, I would think their standards would be higher. I have been reading forums and it seems a lot of people have had this problem and personally I am very disappointed with the service I received as well as the product I received. Is there anyone on here that can assist me with this problem? It needs to be rectified Thank you.

I recently upgraded my x200 tablet to Windows 7.  Everything went fine and was working.  Sometime over the last few days (which included many Windows / Lenovo updates), the integrated webcam stopped working.  At the moment, I believe that it is listed as an unrecognized USB device.  I have attempted to uninstall (via device manager) and re-install the latest webcam driver (which is listed as Win 7 compatible).  Interestingly, the driver install does not seem to complete successfully...it does not return a successful install message and it does not show up in Programs and Features. Any ideas of how to fix this?  Rolling back system restore to a few days ago did not help. Thanks, Brian DeMarco

Hello folks, I've got a problem with my brand new X200 waking up from sleep mode, when using Avira Security Suite. Not sure where the problem lies - is it Avira or is it Lenovo? I'll try asking here anyway...The hardware:A very new Lenovo X200 Tablet with Vista SP1 and standard Lenovo bits and pieces including fingerprint reader and not much else. The PC is configured to ask for a password when waking up from sleep. Fingerprint recognition is enabled and I'm requiring a password on wake-up (so when the PC wakes up I get two icons, one for typed password login and one for fingerprint). The problem:Prior to installing Avira the PC would wake-up from sleep in about 10 seconds. I could use fingerprint or typed password, both worked fine. I install Avira. On wake-up from sleep the fingerprint icon says 'Please wait' and never progresses beyond that. If I try and use it the PC locks up. If I use the password instead then 9 times out of 10 the typed password works fine, the tenth time I get a lock up.My don't-really-know-what-I'm-talking-about diagnosis:There's some Lenovo process to do with the fingerprint recognition system that is being prevented from running by Avira. My question:How do I find out what process needs to be allowed to run and how do I allow that to happen?  What Lenovo apps are used to run the fingerprint system?Possible useful info:- If I DON'T require a password to restart from sleep there's no problem - PC is up and running in seconds.- I got a very sim... Answer:X200 Tablet, fingerprint and Avira problem

Does anyone from Lenovo read these forums?  Surely this question isn't difficult? Can you please tell me which apps I need to make exceptions for in my security software in order to get the fingerprint reader working when restoring from sleep or hibernation? If these forums aren't for that sort of question (then what are they for!?) then can you point me somewhere else where I might get an answer? I've tried the Lenovo helpline but all I got was a vague reply about needing to make exceptions for all CSS and fingerprint exes.  Trouble is I don't know what they all are and where they all live.  Please assist.

I have a very strange issue on just one of my X200 Tablets (I have several in production at the school I support). When the teacher is using his tablet while projecting and flips the screen into the tablet orientation, the tracking of the stylus inverts on both axis, so a movement of the stylus UP on the screen tracks the cursor DOWN on the display, and LEFT tracks as RIGHT. This persists as long as he projects, but as soon as he unplugs the VGA cable, it begins to track normally again. The BIOS is up to date (as of this posting) as is the: video driver, display driver, presentation director, tablet button drivers and digitizer firmware. And this is the model without a multitouch display. ANY thoughts on this would be very helpful, as I have never seen anything like this! Thanks, -Beebop.

Answer:X200 Tablet Stylus Tracking Problem

This happens to us  on X41t's, X6t's and x200's and is solved when we remove presentation director. Tablet mode and latching down the LCD reorients the panel to 180 degrees  but PresentationDirector fails to invert the cursor movements which is why the external display seems to operate in reverse.

I have a new x200 Tablet (received Friday 31 Oct 2008) and just love it (Pictures).  The screen on mine [285 Nit IPS LED Frameless] is just fantastic, you can view it from any angle and the colors hold. However, I am having a problem with Intel Speedstep on mine.  I have an SL9400 rated at 1.86 GHz and it should be able to dynamically undervolt substantially.  I think it should drop down to 800MHz and about 0.7 volts.  However, in both Windows Vista 64 Bit (preinstalled) and Windows XP Tablet (recovery DVD), I find it operating (with CPU-Z) at 1596 MHz/1.038 volts at idle and 1862MHz/1.2 volts at load.  This is with speedstep enabled in BIOS and the processor set to either adaptive or slow.  I get the same problem both when plugged in and when on battery.  Oddly enough, in Ubuntu Studio the processor does undervolt to 800MHz properly (in addition to 1.6,1.86GHz). This is not really an issue when plugged in because the laptop stays cool and quiet.  However, it is a serious problem when I am on battery.  The x200 Tablet is rated at 10.2 hours with the 8 cell battery (I have one).  However, even when I set my system to maximize battery life (display 0/15, wi-fi off, slow processor), I am only showing 6 hours of life for a fully charged battery and 11 watts power usage (with more reasonable brightness/wi-fi it's more like 4.5 hours).  I think this discrepancy is directly related to the processor not dropping to 800M... Read more

Answer:x200 Tablet - SL9400 Speed Step Problem

Solved!  This was actually just a fault in the current version of CPU-Z (1.48).  It cannot accurately detect the throttling of current Penryn Core 2 Duo Processors (SL9400 included) not can it detect DDR3 RAM.  CPU-Z reports my computer operating at 1.6GHz with DDR2 RAM, however in other areas (e.g. Resource Monitor) my system reports at 42% frequency (800 MHz) and DDR3. My wattage has also fallen considerabely in the last week and battery life has gone up.  Under ideal conditions (slow processor, 0/15 brightness, Wi-Fi off, typing/reading a document) my x200 Tablet holds at 60.5 watts.  This equates to 11 hours under absolute ideal conditions (system rated at 10.2).  With more reasonable settings (slow processor, 6/15 brightness, Wi-Fi on, browsing the web) I can still manage 7.50.5 watts.   I think Vista and the tablet just  needed a week to break in, finish indexing, etc, before it was able to operate efficiently and produce desired battery life. Unfortunately, I am unable to get Ubuntu to operate effeciently.  The best I can achieve is 12 watts and that is with a closed lid, slow processor, no wi-fi.  I guess Linux just isn't able to control the power draw of the various devices to the same degree that Windows  and ThinkVantage Power Manager can.

Answer:Windows XP tablet edytion and problem with driver X200

Hi Wogabun and welcome to the community,

Download and install TVSU and run it and see what it comes up with.  You'll need MS Net Framework 1.1 or 2.0 at least for it to run.

Hi All,I have started noticing somewhat strange problem with my laptop. Whenever I try to convert the computer from laptop to tablet the screen dims significantly, to the extent I can barely see anything. This problem is present even when I try to increase the angle of the screen (starts around 135 degrees) I am not sure how this started but it has certainly made it impossible to use this laptop as a tablet. Any help will be greatly appreciated. ThanksPaparick

Answer:Weird problem X200 Dims significantly when converted to tablet

hey paparick, try uninstalling and then reinstall the Hotkey Software as well as the graphic driver for your unit. Also update your bios as wellcurious to know, did this happen recently or did it happen when you first got your unit?

Hi,I have a problem with my X200 tablet under vista: After a hangup the fingerprint, keyboard and trackpoint does not work. After login with external mouse and keyboard I did not find any mistake. Can anybody help? And another question:I want to change to Win7 because Vista ist bulls.... on this system. Is it possible to get an preload harddisk with Win7 and all Lenovo tools?Or a DVD for installation? Thanx

Answer:X200 tablet vista problem Keyboard, Trackpoint, Fingertip

It's not that great under Windows 7 either.... I've tried 7, vista and XP. So far windows xp is the least of the 3 evils. For windows 7 if you really want it (& if you don't mind that some of the hotkeys don't work under Windows 7 - installing extra drivers won't help this) you need the specifics from lenovo as to which installation cd you need to order from microsoft for normal X200 tablet function (I believe they charged about $40 dollars  Canadian for it)  in addition to a windows 7 OS code/key (around $90 dollars - not sure what that converts to in Switzerland, if you're a student).Hope that helps  Btw, what do you mean by hangup?

Hi, I just got my ultrabase today so I plugged it in right away.  Just now I noticed that the fan on the computer has been all the time and pushing hot air out of the vents.... it never used to do that before without the dock and I'm kinda worried about the ventilation on this thing... Is this something I should be concerned about?  edit:  i just ran CPUID HW with my power setting on high performance with my external monitor and tablet monitor on and with 2 videos running ... WMP had a dvd quality movie playing and itunes was running with a another video... + onenote and firefox running (for about 15 minutes) and my max temperature was 78 celsius ... is this too hot?

Answer:x200 ultrabase: heat/ventilation problem with my x201 tablet?

notebooks do tend to run a little hotter when they're on a base.  your temps while running all that stuff is bordering on being a little hot.  you might want to make sure your vents are clear and free from dust. blow them out with a can of air.  i have to blow mine out about once a month, they just attract dust.

Hello all, I just purchased a Lenovo X200 Tablet with enhanced multitouch on the 13th of November when they were having the nice employee sale. I customized the X200 enhanced multitouch package and added a whole bunch of features. I got the camera, turbo memory, 4 gigs of ram, fingerprint reader and the works. The only problem is I don't have any touch features (with my hand) at all. It only detects the digitizer pen. I thought maybe they forgot to install the drivers or something so I tried installing the touch drivers from the Lenovo website (my product number is apparently 7448CTO which is not freaking multitouch from reading on the forums). When I try to enable the Touch features it tells me that it did not detect any touchscreen moreover the tablet did not even come with the simpleTap software which had me really puzzled. Why did Lenovo do this to me?? I need it for university and it took really long to come. I really need those touch features not just the pen. Thanks Cal

Answer:TouchPanel Problem, X200 Tablet with enchanced multitouch - NO TOUCH FEATURES AT ALL

Colferns,I've had a x200 tablet multi-touch for a few months.  Just upgraded to win 7 and having problems getting the multitouch to work.  I wonder if the drivers are not working.  BTW, 7448cto refers to the 7448 model, "Configured To Order" - I know, not very helpful. It is strange, since in XP it worked okay (but not great).  I now look at my Control Panel | System and Security | System Setting and I see half way down the window a category called "Pen and  Touch:". I am dismayed to see "Pen and Single Touch Input Available". I hope some one replies soon with the right drivers.

I have an HP Pavilion TX2000, which is basically a standard convertible tablet pc.

Whenever I fold the screen into tablet mode, the screen orientation switches to secondary landscape format (i.e. 1280x800 upside down).

It would be much more practical if there was a way to make it switch to primary portrait format (i.e. 800x1280) automatically instead.

Of course, i can use the "screen orientation" hotkey on the right side of the display to manually do that each time, but that's not very practical, especially since a resolution refresh takes about 5 seconds - and two refreshes are needed if the system switches to an unwanted one first.

The windows vista control panel holds an option named "tablet settings", but the screen orientation settings there only modify the sequence of screen orientations if the beforementioned hotkey is pressed, and have nothing to do at all with the action if the screen is folded into tablet mode.
The graphics driver config panel (nVidia control panel) also holds an option to rotate the screen, but similarly, doesn't show any switch for default action if the screen is folded into tablet mode.

HPs preinstalled hotkey bloatware doesn't have any options for that at all, and the system behaves in this respect exactly the same without it.

I believe the connectors at the hinge of my x61 tablet is the source of problem. Earlier I mentioned that I had no access to the top of my screen with the digitizer, which is now restored. Now,  when I turn the screen to the 90 degree to flip it over, I lose sound. I have to disable sound device in the device manager and restore it, but remain unable to get sound in tablet mode. Is this a common problem? thanks

I have never been able to get this tablet screen to rotate according to the rotation sequence settings I have set for it in the control panel tablet settings. It is currently set to go from primary landscape to secondary landscape, then portrait, etc. It NEVER works upon rotating the screen. Doing this, tt always goes straight to the portrait orientations. According to that control panel setting, this sequence is for the button only. From the usual, unfolded laptop position, the sequence does work. However, if I flip the screen then hit the button, it goes out of sequence. Anyone successfully get theirs to rotate properly?

Answer:Thinkpad X61 Tablet rotation sequence....

Yes, had the same issue until I changed the setting in another place that must override the one you set.    Go to Programs > ThinkVantage  > Tablet Shortcut Menu >  Settings (round link at bottom) > Customize Tablet Menu Settings then set the Auto Screen Rotation default value.    The screens will then rotate in the order you set in the Control Panel > Table and Pen Settings > Display > Sequence.   One place to set the default orientaion and one place for the sequence, not sure how or if the two conflict with each other.

Greetings, My system is i7 Multitouch X230t. It was working fine from last 2 months till today when while turning my screen from laptop to Tablet configuration the touch and pen function suddenly disappeared. When trying to access the Pen and Tablet setting it gives an error " A supported tablet not found on the system".Also at the same time i noted that in my device manager a USB device is now labeled as Unknown device. I searched the net and tried everything.  Restarting. - No effectUninstalling the unknown USB device and restarting - No effectUpdating all lenovo drivers from the lenovo Site - No effect System Recovery to an earlier Date (15 days) - No effect When i Tried to update Lenovo Multitouch/pen driver from lenovo site it give error " A supported tablet not found on the system" and aborts installing the driver. I uninstalled the wacom driver ISDdrivers.exe from windows Uninstall utility and again tried to install Multitouch and pen drivers but again it says " A supported tablet not found on the system". Someone please help. I am afraid it might be a hardware issue as the problem started when i turned the screen from laptop to tablet mode. Currently My X230t is just a Laptop and NOT a TABLET as there is NO touch and NO pen input, as if windows doesn't even recognize any tablet hardware on board. PLEASE HELP. Thankyou

Answer:Help: X230t " A supported tablet not found on the system" Problem. Its not a tablet anymore

Perhaps the cable got severed when you were turning it around? I've had a Wifi antenna cable break this way on an HP tablet... If it's still under warranty have them check it and replace it if necessary. It could also be a loose connector but there's no way to be sure without opening the screen assembly.

Hello. We've got an unusual problem when applying driverpackage for lenovo x201.OSD with SCCM 2007.. The Audio driver installs successfully during OSD (with silent install switch) and in devicemanager we can see that the conexant 20585 Smart Audio HD driver has been installed. Same with "Intel screen audio". But in the Audio options in controlpanel all the fields is grayed out. There is with other words no associated soundcard / standard device. If we install the driver again, logged in as an user the recently grayed out fields in Audio options automagically now shows the correct input / output devices (Conexant audio) and the sound starts working. Is there some issue when installing drivers in SYSTEM context?Notice: There is no "?" in device manager. BR!

5855 tablet lost auto rotation after (I think) recent Windows 10 update.
It used to work a couple of days ago.

Any ideas how to restore the auto rotation?

Answer:5855 tablet lost auto rotation

Greetings,Kindly try the following steps :To turn on, or turn off screen rotation, swipe in from the right, select PC Settings and look for the Screen icon. Tap the Screen icon and you will see a vertical slide control for brightness. At the top of the brightness control you will see a rectangle, representing a screen, with a curved arrow at the lower right corner. Tap the rectangle once to lock the screen rotation in the current position, portrait or landscape. The curved arrow will change to a lock. To unlock screen rotation, follow the same procedure, tap the rectangle with the lock and it will change back to the curved arrow. Please update drivers and check if issue persists. If the button has disappeared and issue is not resolved after updating driver, reset the operating system after backing up data. Confirm if this helps.

On Tablet PCs, screen orientation can be changed so that any side of the screen can become "the bottom" of the desktop.
Unfortunately, the result is that a wallpaper intended for a 1200 x 800 desktop, is stretched to fill a 800 x 1200 desktop. See the effect in the attached images.
Is there any way to lock wallpapers to a physical side of a screen?

Answer:Screen Orientation and Wallpaper Rotation (on Tablet PCs)

The easiest solution may be a tiled wallpaper. Something that's just a pattern.

edit: I found this page. I have no idea if it works. I only have desktop machines:

Strange new problem with my X61 (running vista, fully up to date, 4 gigs ram, etc.) When I rotate it into slate mode, the wireless disconnects and refuses to reconnect properly until I reboot. I have verified this behavior many times. More confusing: the wireless connection icon in the right side of the task bar remains in connected mode, but if you click it, it will not give you the usual windows panel allowing you access to the networking screens. Stranger yet, if you physically shut off the radios with the switch on the front, the radio LED stays lit, and using Fn+F5 to bring up the radio screen, doesn't allow me to cycle the radio on or off either. Possible cause: I have uninstalled "Access Connections" because it has been nothing but trouble for me:  This may be a variation on the old "display cannot work in secondary landscape mode when wireless WAN" is active message that I used to get. Basically, this computer does not have wireless WAN, never has, but for some time, when I tried to use the screen in secondary landscape in slate mode, it would give me that message and turn the screen to some other orientation. This was obviously unacceptable, and I uninstalled access connections which seemed to solve the problem. With a recent automatic lenovo update, it reinstalled access connections and started that problem again, which is why I uninstalled it yet again. But now, this. Anyone see this? I seem to remember that screen orientation was... Read more

Answer:X61 Tablet Wireless Turns Off/Crashes on Screen Rotation

Funny that you should post this because I literally just registered for this forum so I could add a post for this exact problem (as well as a temporary fix) in the hopes that Lenovo would quickly remedy this situation.  I am kind of a tech newbie and only recently started troubleshooting my computer problems on my own so please excuse any lack of proper jargon during the course of this post.  Anyway, the problem I thought (much like you) was the updated version of the Access Connections version 5.02 that was recently released by Lenovo that automatically updated to my tablet.  So I uninstalled 5.02 and reinstalled the older version 4.52.  After restarting my computer, I tried rotating my screen to tablet mode-->the wireless disabled, Access Connections froze, Wireless LED would stay lit, and it would kick me out of using secondary landscape mode with the wireless enabled even if I tried to turn the wireless off with the hard key on the front of the keyboard.  Same problem persisted exactly as you posted.   I then went to my ThinkVantage System Update and looked at my update history to see what other recent updates might have been responsible.  I came across one called "Intel Wireless WiFi for Vista 32-bit" version 12.00.4000.  After doing some digging on the Lenovo website I found the driver: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70505 Anyway, I figured it would b... ISSUE:screen goes dark/blank upon rotation to tablet modescreen dark/blank when stated in tablet mode IN GENERAL: when running in laptop mode -> attempt to rotate to tablet mode -> screen goes dark/blank once the screen is approximately 6"s from the point at which it would lock in place in tablet mode it does not matter where the hinge is within the 180 deg rotation, i.e.,  from laptop to tablet position the problem occured sporadically, it is now virtually 100% THE HELP WE ARE ASKING FOR: 1- means for determining whether the issue is hardware related or software related, troubleshooting & resolution [some threads unrelated to this issue have eluded to a physical switch within the hinge, while others have suggested software related issues related to screen orentation]  We appreciate your help, swrdfsh the machine at issue is:X61T, 7764CTO, factory Win XP tablet

Answer:X61T XP -> screen blank on rotation to tablet mode

Since there have not been postings on drivers/settings related to blank screen and rotation, I would assume it is hardware related and deserves a visit to a service center.   The service center will fix the problem either way.   The software related to the screen rotation normally changes the screen only after full rotation and as you start to lower the lid from laptop to tablet.   If your screen goes blank (instead of rotating) as you lower the lid, it is possibly related to software.   Might also check your presentation mode and screen settings under the Tablet Shortcut Menu, if you have changed any of these setting from their default.

Hi, I have here a X220 Tablet that seem to have a FAN problem.Often in the last days my CPU temperature is often over 90 CAnd the fan has problem to reduce the temperature.I have also situation that the CPU is going too hot and the tablet switch off! With the CPU tool TPFC.62 I can see that the fan speed is 2300-2500 RPMs.But this seams not enough to be. And now the strange thing:When I disable the graphic adapter ?Intel(R) HD Graphics Family? (Driver 8.15.10.2321) and reboot and do the same thing that I done to get the temperature over 90 C with the intel graphic adapter the temperature is not going over 83 C!!! The fan speed is 3500-3800 RPMs. Can someone helps me with this issue?

Answer:X220 Tablet FAN Problem - temperature over 90 °C - tablet switch off :(

Hi giciorek,

I understand that your fan/temperature problems can be frustrating.  I would try updating your BIOS and also updating Power Manager.  (Some on the forum have tried downloading ThinkPad Fan Control, but that is not an official Lenovo solution.)

Download Power Manager here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014924

Download BIOS Update here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS018805

In Power Manager, click Advanced at top right, you can Set Optimize Fan Control to Balance All Parameters under Battery Settings.  Set it to Reduce Noise Dynamically under AC.

Let me know if this helps.

Hi all,    I have a really annoying problem...my x220 tablet disconnects from the internet whenever I enter tablet mode. The internet can be working perfectly fine while in non tablet mode but as soon as I switch to tablet mode, my internet disconnects. And if I switch back to non tablet mode from tablet mode, my internet returns almost instantaneously. I can load a page in non tablet mode with no problems, switch to tablet mode and the page stops loading. If I return back to non tablet mode the page resumes loading without so much as a pause or a hiccup. Also, when I switch the computer to tablet mode, wifi networks disappear off of the "available networks" list that were there before the switch.     I've tried everything, from updating network device drivers, reinstalling network device drivers, running diagnostics, reformatting my computer, uninstalling Norton Antivirus, system restoring to days before the last known working date in normal mode and safe mode, and contacting customer support (chat and call, managed to get a hold of a rep) but none of them have worked.    I also used to have a networking log before I reformatted/system reset to factory settings and there were a ton of errors with words like avsc manager failed to "something" ... I'll reinstall the thinkpad network managing program to create another log. Can someone please help me? My last resort is calling lenovo support again to have tech support come to hel... Read more

I'm looking to buy an X200 tablet for school this fall, but I'm curious about the Trusted Platform Module (TPM).  I'm not a big fan of having TPM on my personal use equipment, thought I do see the advantages in a managed IT infrastructure.  According to the maintenance manual there are motherboards available both with and without the "security chip"/TPM feature, but purchasing one separately is a joke (US$1,400 or more) considering the cost of the base unit itself.  When customizing a unit on the Lenovo store there is no option for purchasing without a TPM.  The tacover.pmd document lists the TPM as being integrated into the ICH9M chip, which is the reason for needing a whole separate motherboard to get a unit without a TPM. Long story short, is it possible to have Lenovo build me a unit with a non-TPM motherboard? Thanks in advance.

you can switch off the feature in the BIOS, it would probably cost the same regardless.... but unless you have a large order of some sort, these sort of things are not negotiable on a single build basis.

Question: X200 Tablet

Our company recently bought over 100 of the above. Lately we have noticed the mainboards have gone on several of them. Usually receive BIOS beeps indicating the video. Was just wondering whether others have had the same experience?

Answer:X200 Tablet

Assuming the specimens that failed were distributed across a broad range of users that weren't  in the vicinity of the same EMP then the law of quantities and percentages seems particularly visccious in this case. We purchase in lots of 25 and just sourced 75 hingers and 75 tablets and of varying Type's and didn't have a single DoA nor failure in the last  month. The reason we keep buying the most expensive laptop made is we know the quality can be assumed and the service can be assured, if you're geting bad service for any reason than expect swarms of assistance from the mod employees here determined to rectify your issues and ensure you choose Thinkpad for your next round of gear.

Just received an old 4GB X200 tablet with Windows 10 Pro via eBay to use for browsing.   I've found it quite fast and love the keyboard.  Old tech, but better than a lot of newer equipment.  And at $79 delivered, no way to lose, and it is very similar to my favorite T420. As it uses a 2.5" HDD, i am thinking about switching to an SSD (as I have with my T420).  I understand that the X200 uses Sata 2 and was wondering how others have found performance when doing this with an X200. I've found no problems with drivers so far, but are there more desirable ones than the Microsoft ones in Windows 10 for graphics, etc.?

I've got an x200 tablet that doesn't do so well as a tablet.I've gotten everything from the dreaded blue screen when the pen is touched to it,  to it being totally unresponsive to pen input. Everything but the tablet issue seems to work fine. Hasn't been dropped, smashed or had any liquids poured on it. Also has (had?) an obnoxious amount of antivirus/spyware/ect. software.Downloaded every driver, went back to several restore points and even took it all the way back to its out of the box state with recovery disks.Took it into the tech/repair center at my university. They had it for three weeks and didn't know what to do with it either...It's still under warranty, but even if it's not somehow covered I'd much rather pay repair costs than buy a new computer. So what the heck do I do with it now? Send it back to the company? (Really resisting the urge to set it on fire.)

Answer:x200 not being much of a tablet

Which O/S are you running?   I have an X200T (7448-CTO) and, after about 1.5 years under Vista, it started to develop severe flakiness (e.g. frequent IE and Office app crashes) although the tablet functionality was still working OK.  I finally decided to bite the bullet and  install Windows 7 fresh (not an upgrade over Vista).  The process that Win7 uses is interesting in that it places the previous (Vista) Windows directory in something called Windows.old.   It does not reformat the drive nor does it delete any other directories on C:/.  That process worked great for me (NB was/is virus free) although, in your case, I wonder if it wouldn't be smarter to relocate all of your documents and settings (e.g. favorites, contacts) to another storage medium and, quite literally, reformat the entire hard drive before installing a new O/S.  After Win7 has completed, install the Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox and it will perform all of the driver upgrades which, in my case, went near flawlessly.   All of my peripheral worked right away including the tablet functionality.  I did have to recalibrate the pen/tablet and work through the handwriting recognition training, but those tasks are only tedious, not difficult.  The only small issue I had, initially, was a SmartAudio driver error which, somehow, fixed itself.    I know that some people have reported issues with Win7/Thinkpad compatibility, but I can only report a comp... Hi:I'm looking at purchasing the X200 tablet. I'm looking at the SL9600 offering as well as some of the other whistles and bells. What I am curious about is if there is any intention to replace the VGA port with a digital video interface such as HDMI as well as if there are any plans for a touch pad mouse. I'd hate to buy now just to have the VGA port replaced with HDMI next month. Also, I keep coming across all the different model numbers. Is there any good reference as far as the model numbers. I saw a posting here from last year with similar questions as mine and thought to get it updated.Any advisement on planned upgrades to the X200 in the near term by Lenovo would be appreciated and help me determine when to pull the trigger. Thanks

Question: X200 Tablet Help

Hi. I am having troubles with my lenovo x200 tablet running windows 7 32-bit.Last night it was working fine but this morning i turned it on and went into windows but i cannot log on because it goes to sleep automatically every 5 seconds or so. The 4 indicator lights are also flashing instead of staying still like the wireless and bluetooth indicator light if that makes a difference. Help is appreciated. Thank you in advance =)

Answer:X200 Tablet Help

It sounds like the notebook is low in power, either the battery has no charge or is not holding charge (old/defective). If it's plugged in  AC outlet already, then possibly computer hardware issue. Please refer to page 23 in the "Service and Troubleshooting Guide". You might need to have your unit serviced.

I'm in the market for a new notebook, and I've really become enamored with the X200 tablet. Well, actually it was the X301 that first caught my eye, but it's just not fully-featured enough for me. Too bad, as I really liked the weight and the WXGA+ on a 13.3" display. Anyway, I'm a Windows applications developer, and I'm trying to determine the X200 tablet's suitability for my needs. As a programmer, I can always make use of additional display resolution, but I've simulated some WXGA screenshots on a 12.1" display, and I'm thinking it could work for me. I'd appreciate it if others could chime in here with what they use their own X200 tablet for on a regular basis and how well it performs and displays those tasks. Thanks.

Answer:What do you use your X200 tablet for?

Hi Rich, I use my X200 Tablet for everything and cannot say enough good things about it. I wear many hats right now Director of IT, Student, and believe or not I take it to church. I take my tablet everywhere! Currently I'm taken a Marketing class and DB design class and use it for notes and for MS Access running on windows 7 BETA. I have owned the all the X series tablets since the x41 which still run. Some of the problems I run into with DB design is the smaller screen but really it is not a huge factor because I'm in class when I'm at work I use the dock with 24" widescreen. I take my tablet to meetings, give presentations, and use it in place on my desktop. The only thing I would caution against is the process power for your type of development. For example it does not encode video as fast as a desktop but it can do it better than other notebooks in it's class. If you need speed and screen size try the W700 series with WACOM digitizer pad.  What I like most about the X series tablets is it's lightweight portability, performance, wireless options, and durability. I have download 50 eBooks, several text books, and read the electronic versions of eweek and love the annotate on them. If fact my wife makes fun me when I take it to the bathroom for reading materials. I can say that the tablet has changed the way I function in daily life. My wife is a Direct of IT as well and I finally got her to use a tablet with the same results.  The la... Read more

I got a X200 Tablet Thinkpad through my old school because it was part of the requirements. And i want to reformat my thinkpad but when i bought the thinkpad, i got no OS disk with it. How can i reformat it? Any help? Thanks ;D

Answer:X200 Tablet

Which OS are you using on the X200t? There is the recovery partition on the hdd, which allows you to recover the system to the factory condition (which reinstalls the OS + driver), you can burn the recovery media from windows provided you have the usb dvd/cd burner or the ultrabase with the ultrabay dvd/cd burner.

Hi! I would first check if you indeed have a model that supports multitouch. Please go here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/partsLookup.page You'll then need to enter your machine type, which is a 4 digit code on the bottom of the laptop. Then enter the serial number (located right from the model type, it says something like S/N xxxxxx) and you will get a list of the components installed on your X200T. Try to identify the screen and post the resuts here. My 2 cents...

I am looking to order an x200 Tablet and I am trying to balance my desire to get it NOW with the uncertainty of knowing what's around the corner in the world of computing, particularly in Lenovo world. I know that there is ALWAYS something bigger (smaller?), better, and/or faster coming in the world of laptops but there are times when computing makes huge leaps (case in point: I bought a T42p just weeks before the T60 line came out with Core 2 Duo processors and I was stuck with a machine that could not run 64-bit).Relatively minor things like more RAM, thinner design, brighter screens, etc. is there something HUGE that's expected or rumored to be coming soon from Lenovo, especially in the tablet line? Also, what tends to be the cheapest place to buy Lenovo laptops? It certainly isn't lenovo.com because the same configured x200 tablet there was over $1,050 more there than at bestbuyforbusiness.com and various other resellers. Thanks!

Answer:advice on when to buy x200 tablet

Well, early T60s can't run 64-bit OS either unless you change the CPU which calls for a revision 3 motherboard...so you haven't done that bad with T42p back in the day... Given the current market situation, the fact that X200T is still a pretty new model and changes in Lenovo's leadership and priorities that are likely to shift, I believe that it's a fairly safe bet to say that X200T will remain largely unchanged for quite a while. As for where to shop for one, try Lenovo's outlet or eBay... Hope this helps.

Hello everyone Im thinking of buying a lenovo x200 tablet pc and as i cant get it directly from lenovo.com and have it configured as i want need to ask a few things  1. If you get it with the intel 5100 wifi card, how easy it is to change it with the 5300 yourself? I read that the 5300 uses three antennas, will the x200 have the antennas there or the change with the 5300 will be in waste? 2. The 3 GB ram that it will have preinstalled which brand are? Are they any good? or should i changed them with some crusial ones 2x2GBs? 3. The 320GB hdd 7200rpm which brand is it? 4. Is it easy to remove the turbo memory and should someone do that? 5.I have read the tabook,i have searched around but i cant understand this74508HU and 74538HUseems like they have everything the same but the difference in price is around 100$.Does anyone have an idea whats the difference? Then the 74498JU also has almost everything the same apart from windows XP to vista business and it has plus an ultrabase and DVD but costs 300$ less than 74508HU!!!So whats going on??? Which one should i get? I hope lenovo will allow sometime people from other countries to buy online from them because there are some countries that probably you will die or get very old before you can buy new stuff  thanksKonstantinosMessage Edited by kostasls on 11-18-2008 11:51 PMMessage Edited by kostasls on 11-18-2008 11:52 PM

Question: X200 Tablet boot

Hello, I have a Thinkpad X200 Tablet running windows 7. When I trun it on it takes about 20-30 mins to boot up. After booting up it work just fine no problems at all. So, I want to know what is causing this problem, is it a hrdware issue of a software issue. Thanks in advance, AbuFares

Answer:X200 Tablet boot

This may not be your issue, but there is a documented problem with the X200T of a "slow boot" (60-90 sec) when started with the lid closed (external monitor/keyboard attached). The problem was recently resolved with a bios update (3.14-1.06). However, the delay was not 20-30 mins. Until the bios were updated, the work-around was to open the lid, which kick-started the boot process. Suggest checking to ensure you have most current bios/drivers. ~ Ken

I have a client that uses SCCM '07 to deploy OS images to computers over the network. This seems to work great for the vast majority of systems that they have. Here's a quick run down of the problem: Computer information imported into SCCMDrivers imported into SCCM, NIC and HDD drivers added to boot image Task Sequence created and advertised to collection for OS deploymentPXE boot from the tablet works fine and even loads the WinPE imageRight at the point when the Task Sequences should show up, the system reboots automatically I suspect that there is a problem with the drivers being used in the boot image. Currently, they are using Intel(R) ESB2 SATA AHCI Controller drivers, version 8.2.4.1007 which is applicable to the Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller in use by the X200 Tablet. Two other versions (8.2.4.1005 and 8.2.4.1001) have also been tried without success. They will be purchasing more X200s very soon and need to have this problem solved quickly. Any thoughts?

Answer:X200 Tablet, OSD in SCCM '07

I had a similar issue yesterday.  This is due to a network driver needed in the boot image in addition to a Driver Package.  If you put your boot image into debug mode right now you will see that at about that time the device reboots the NIC flakes out.  Which is weird because it seems to have the right stuff to get that far.  But I imported the newest driver associated with the x200 from Lenovo and updated my x86 boot image and it worked great.

Hi, I bought my Lenovo X200 Tablet recently in the US as a WWAN ready laptop. I now moved to the UK and I want to start using mobile broadband. I understand I need to order a 3G mini-card to actually allow WWAN.However, before I order this part, I have a few questions: - Does the card work with XP as well (since it only gives Vista as supported system)?- How does the GPS feature in this laptop work: is the receiver on the WWAN card, or does it need WWAN (e.g. through an external dongle modem) to be accesible? (this is one of the cool features I really would like to use)- Does the card work with any SIM or only with Vodafone?- What is the maximum speed supported? 7.2 MBit? Thanks very much in advance, Floris

Answer:X200 Tablet and WWAN

Hi, I can answer a little about the card/GPS.  You do have a sim (or you should) and if you pull out the battery you will see it on the left.  You also should have had a little plastic card that contain the sim included with your order. The webpage for the wireless WAN  says that its also compatible with XP and at the bottom of the page it says world wide.  You will have to verify/try this.  Be sure to have the other programs installed as well for the card.  Now I did go to this webpage and tried this driver but nothing change.  It doesn't say specifically for the tablet but  again nothing changed.  The gps is internal (I don't have to attach anything to get it to work.  The program is ultra basic; there are no option or features to change except is the application that takes your coordinates and displays your location. The default on mine is Google maps. Be aware that you cannot have the GPS Enabler getting satellite data and be online.  The card  turns off the wireless and turns on the WAN.   I'm not sure about the last questions you asked but maybe somebody will fill it in. Update:  From what I have heard you should be able to use any sim, though I haven't tried with mine.  Anfrom the datasheet on the WAN card it says 7.2 MBit DL / 2.0MBit UL.Message Edited by MB on 02-19-2009 09:23 PM

Question: X200 Tablet sound

Hi, My X200 Tablet's sound controll is very poor. When adjusting volume to 0, the sound is 0. But if I turn up the volum to 1, the descible level is rather high - almost jumping to a medium level of my X60 Tablet. From volume level 1 and further up to 25 the adjustment is more or less linear. This is really anoying when I want to use my computer when travelling, putting on some soft background music or other things, as there is no level that is equal to a low level volume. To get the same level of sound when having the volume adjusted to 1, that I have on my X60 Tablet, or other computers for the sake, I have to use the program interal volume control to adjust the volume as well. For watching a movie in VLC (www.videolan.org) at the same sound level "1" as for the X60 Tablet, I have to turn the X200 Tablet's volume level to 1, and the the internal volume control in VLC to 5%, instead of just leaving it at 100% as it is on the X60 Tablet. I tried to adjust the volume with the ThinkVantage buttons, the windows volume from both in the tray window and from control panel. Anyone got a clue where the problem is, and what I am doing wrong? ThinkVantage System Update should be up to date with all drivers installed I think. Best regards,OAB

Answer:X200 Tablet sound

I have now installed Windows 7 on my X200 Tablet, and after installing Windows 7 the sound issue was automatically solved. Why this was a problem on XP, I never spent enough resources to find out and remains a mystery, but it leads me to think it was problems with software / drive incompatability. It is nice to have a normal working computer, having the same or better stability as Windows XP, with the same features and more than Vista. So for you that might encounter the same problem, not finding a solution for XP, I can recommed get Windows 7 Ultimate. Br OA

Question: x200 tablet BSOD

Every day, at least once, if not 2-3 times, my tablet blue screens with "Stop: 0x000000F4" I have not installed new software or hardware. The tablet is completely up to date according to Lenovo system update and Windows update (Vista 32 bit SP 2).  Since I purchased it in March it has been freezing on me and I have had to hard reboot at least a few times a week. Now I get the blue screens and it is making me want to throw my computer against a wall and go purchase a Macbook Pro.  Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem is?

Answer:x200 tablet BSOD

Could be a couple of items: 1) memory, 2) hard drive, 3) motherboardFor 1), I'd suggest getting a copy of memtest86+ from here: http://www.memtest.org/#downiso Create the boot media and let the program run for at least three complete passes. For 2), I would get a copy of PC Doctor for DOS from here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-69537 and run the Fixed Disk diagnostics. I have not personally used this version of PC Doctor but I have run the one for T4x, T2x, A3x and X2x systems and they all have a diagnostic for checking the hard drive. For 3), use the same PC Doctor for DOS diagnostic and run the Systemboard and CPU tests to verify your motherboard.

My computer is no more than two months old, and last night the CPU fan (on the left side of the computer just next to the power adapter port) started making a very loud, grating noise. I shut the laptop down for the night, and this morning when I turned it on I received a "Fan error" message, and the computer proceeded to shut off immediately. Thinking that there might be dust obstructing the fan (after two months this was highly unlikely, but there was a chance), so I used "Dust-off" and blew it into the heat sync. The fan spun with some noise, no dust came out of the sync, but when I tried turning the computer on immediately afterward, it worked. When Windows booted up, the fan started accelerating and stared making the very loud grating noise again, and then after about 30 seconds stopped spinning altogether. I do not feel any heat or air coming out of the heat sync. I am extremely worried, as I have to leave for China on June 16th and do not have time to send this in to the depot for repair. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks in advance,Jim

Answer:x200 Tablet CPU Fan Failure

Hi jpearse, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

Sorry to hear about the odd behavior of your X200 fan.

It's possible there is something in the fan. To get better access, you can remove the keyboard (movie of that here).

There's a very good chance a depot repair will be done before you leave, if you start process right away.

You could also try a local warranty service provider.

I would opt for the depot repair, because I've had good experience with it (almost always returned the same week), and if it was important, I'd make sure I had a plan B.

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate. Short story: The green power indicator (the (Z) light) will be on, but the computer is otherwise entirely unresponsive and is absolutely silent: the fan isn't running and CPU/processor isn't clicking away.  My only way of successfully interacting with it is by holding the power button to force a power-down.  Is this a hardware problem? Long story: Initially, I had a problem with sleep mode; when I would close my computer, it would go to sleep and when I reopened it, it would remain asleep.  The green moon light, indicating sleep mode, was on, but the computer was otherwise unresponsive.  Even holding the power button to force a power down was futile, unless I pressed the button within seconds of opening the notebook. Scanning the Internet lead to a lot of people having similar, but not exactly so, problems with their ThinkPads, but the popular solution (turning off hybrid sleep) did nothing, as it was already off.  I pressed the ThinkVantage button and downloaded whatever updates were available for that, and once the download was finished, I restarted my computer, which also installed a few Windows updates which had been waiting in the background.  Windows did its usual installation as it powered down, and as it restarted, the problems I described in the Short story version above began.  I've been stuck at this point ever since.  The RAM and hard drive appear to be undamaged.&... I have a Lenovo X200 Tablet with a 128-gigabyte SSD. So far, it's wonderfully fast and long on battery life, so "yay." How do I keep it this way, though? I usually use System Mechanic, but its support doesn't say a thing about "SSD," "Solid state disk" or "solid state drive." That doesn't make me sanguine, so my question is: Is there such a thing as disk defragmentation with an SSD? If so, what do I do about it? It strikes me that tools meant for magnetic media could wreak all kinds of havoc.

Answer:X200 Tablet SSD maintenance

If you ask me, I would say disk defragment help boost performance especially when reading and writing large files-- and what Lenovo recommends is defragging by its tool--you may read @inside the box, Lenovo's blog for some interesting aspect. I don't think tool matters. They all do the same basically, but you should not defrag that often. However, If it comes with like 3-year warranty,  you don't have to care about that =) just backup often. If it breaks one day, just ask for replacement!

Answer:X200 tablet WiFi

The X200t doesn't use a half length miniPCIe wireless card. The Intel 5100 and 5300 cards used in these systems are full length.

I recently purchased a brand new x200 tablet.  Soon after it arrived, one of the USB ports failed (front, right).  I sent it back for repairs and was told they changed out the entire motherboard to resove the issue.  When I received my computer, I found that the port was working fine. Now, two weeks later, the exact same USB port has failed again.  I called Lenovo and was told they would have to change the motherboard again. I have owned many, many laptops previously (including Thinkpads) without any issues.  I must say, it is quite aggravating to have to always send my computer in for repair, as it means I have to transfer all my data and programs to another computer to use, then transfer it back again.   And what concerns me the most is that their seems to be no solution to this USB port issue.  Should I just leave it be and use the computer minus one USB port?

Answer:X200 tablet- two new motherboards

I should note that I have only connected a wireless mouse and USB flash drives to this port.

I have a X200 tablet with the original 64GB Samsung SSD-drive (MMCRE64G8MPP-0VAL1). I have upgraded the ssd firmware to the newest  VAM0DL1Q, but still the machine slows down after few weeks use and only secure erase restores it back to speed.I'm using Win7 Ultimate x64 and supports trim, but does this ssd support it? If not where can I get a firmware which supports or should the drive be replaced?

Question: x200 tablet memory

I have 2GB memory in my x200 tablet now. Will it work if I put another 1 GB memory inside? Or it has to work in pairs, like 2 X 2GB?

Answer:x200 tablet memory

The memory doesn't have to be paired, matched, same manufacturer, or identical. It has to be compatible with the hardware used. In other words, it has to be 204-pin PC3-8500 DDR3 memory modules. If you are currently using 2 x 1GB modules, you will need to purchase a 2GB module to have a total of 3GB. I would suggest you check to see what configuration you have. Either 1 x 2GB module or 2 x 1GB modules. You can check this with software [CPU-Z] or by physically removing the panel and verifying the configuration.  Note: If checking with CPU-Z, download and run the utility. Click the "SPD" tab. Click the drop-down box labeled "Slot #1". The details should show wether it's a 1GB module or a 2GB module. If it's a 1GB module, select "Slot #2", and it should show you that it contains another 1GB module. Hope this helps.

Hello,I recently purchased a X200 Tablet with Windows 7 installed, and I have some queries about some possible problems:  1. I find that when I use my digitizer pen, it becomes inaccurate quite quickly. Sometimes it can become annoying to use after and hour, or after the system is resumed from sleep or hibernation (or when restarted). This means I have to calibrate the pen around 2 to 4 times a day. However, this is not a problem when touching the screen with the finger.  2. The tip of the digitizer pen can move sideward (and slightly in and out, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is how the pen works) and although it doesn't pose a problem (other than possibly causing the problem in the 1st point?), I am wondering whether this is normal. 3. When swiveling the screen round in tablet mode, the screen clicks into place, but is not held there very firmly, i.e. I can press the screen down till it touches the keyboard, and it would bounce back up again. Again, I'm wondering whether this is normal. I'd like to point out that this is my first tablet pc, so, to put it bluntly, I have no idea if I should be worried about these things. I'm also probably a bit paranoid, as these things don't come cheap. Excuse me if these questions may seem a little trivial, but I haven't had any luck finding any answers to them

Hello,  I was really looking forward buying the X200 tablet. As I can remember correctly the X200 tablet launched start of October in the US and there were no information at all, when this machine would be arrive in the UK. Then this or last week you can find the X200 tablet not on the UK-Lenovo-WebPage... At first I was happy... but then I realize that you cannot customize the machine like the one in the US. You cannot choose the HDD (e.g. the SSD), you cannot chose the main memory,  etc. which is really sad.  The main points are here that I cannot choose the internal webcam and the internal mobile network adapter. Without these gadgets I will definitly not buy this machine. What is the reason for all this???? I am really disappointed... Is it possible to buy the X200 tablet (with the configuration YOU like) in the USA? Flights are not so expensive! Or can you even order it in the US and they send it to you (I am in the UK right now)? I really like Lenovo, but the information policy in general and this issue now with the X200 tablet let me consider my opinion... regards tk

I have an x200 tablet that is randomly freezing on me.  The computer becomes totally unresponsive except for the cursor still being active.  I end up having to turn the power off and reboot.  I know some people on this forum seem to have had similar problems, any help would be greatly apreciated.  I can give more detailed description of the problem and what I've tried so far if necessary. Here are my system specs:Model: 7449-88UCPU: SL9400(1.86GHz)2GB RAM160GB 7200rpm HDIntel X4500HDIntel 802.11agn wirelessSecure chipFingerprint readerIntel Turbo Memory8c Li-IonVista Business 32

Answer:x200 tablet freezing

First question, how many processes your machine has. Click Ctrl+Shift+esc, then go to process tab, you will see how many processes your system has. You may like to disable something like Antivirus, Windows Defender, Diskeeper if you have. You should see a significant improvement by turn these 3 off.

Question: X200 tablet screen

Hi there,              I recently got a x200 tablet about a week ago,and I love it.however my some of my handwritten notes(i write lightly as possible) on the tablet are turning into scratches which means the screen is starting to have more scratches as i use it.although the scratches are not deep ,it bothers me.i tried wiping it down but that doesnt work.i am wondering if this is a common phenomenon with tablet pc's or its exclusive to my unit.Thank you!
