ThinkVantage + R&R questions - (X200 Tablet) Vista upgraded to Windows-7

Question: ThinkVantage + R&R questions - (X200 Tablet) Vista upgraded to Windows-7

Hi, harddisk usage problems on backup and restore as this is so important after a new OS has been upgraded. The case:1. Re-installed a clean Vista to the X-200 Tablet before upgrading the PC to Windows 7, hoping that the new Windows-7 would be clean & more robust rather than working with a lot of old Vista applications and files. 2. Installed Office Enterprise for testing basic keys and button functions with Windows 7. 3. Went to Control panel and clicked "Backup and Restore" to do a manual backup just in case the system crashes as we have to separately install a lot of drivers (good luck) to the machine under the new Windows 7 (this is a problem prone operation) to make the control and buttons work again. 4. There are three drive partitions in all after the upgrade (the harddisk has a virgin 300GB total space) :- (a) SW_Preload C: used - 56.4GB (only Windows 7 and Microsoft Office Enterprise installed) free - 220GB Total - 277GB (b) Lenovo (Q : used - 5.1GB free: 14.3GB total: 19.5GB (c) ServiceV003: used - 1.08GB free - 388MB total - 1.46GB 5. Also tried the "Create a system image" function asked for 56GB space in order to proceed which is out of this world to continue. What drive to use?---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Questions: (I have exhausted Lenovo's support site already and couldn't find solutions.http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=WIN7-TIPS) 1. What is the function of the Blue ThinkVantage button on the machine after the upgrade and how do we use it? 2. What are the two other partitions used for and when do we use it? 3. Why a basic Windows7 plus the Office suite take up so much space (56GB)? 4. The system is looking for 56GB of storage to proceed, therefore it always respond with insufficient memory to do a backup on the same harddisk, what should we do? 5. For all of us who has upgraded to Windows 7, Lenovo does not give us any hints on how the NEW system does a Resue & Restore , where can we get something to read?? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Comments: R&R is so important for everyone of us to be able to do it before we keep installing new applications - the system can crash at any time which means a nightmare to every user. Many use the X200 for business purposes which is life or death situations, unless we can do R&R with the ThinkVantage button or we are in serious troubles. It is time for Lenovo to justify on their high selling price of the X200. Fair deal? Would the Lenovo Moderators here kindly forward my questions to the Lenovo's technical support guys please as I don't think the questions I raised would easily get responses from forum members and should NOT be asking customers for experiemental answers. Lenovo should take ACTIVE measures to respond rather than letting us running around empty headed, please, please.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone Im thinking of buying a lenovo x200 tablet pc and as i cant get it directly from lenovo.com and have it configured as i want need to ask a few things  1. If you get it with the intel 5100 wifi card, how easy it is to change it with the 5300 yourself? I read that the 5300 uses three antennas, will the x200 have the antennas there or the change with the 5300 will be in waste? 2. The 3 GB ram that it will have preinstalled which brand are? Are they any good? or should i changed them with some crusial ones 2x2GBs? 3. The 320GB hdd 7200rpm which brand is it? 4. Is it easy to remove the turbo memory and should someone do that? 5.I have read the tabook,i have searched around but i cant understand this74508HU and 74538HUseems like they have everything the same but the difference in price is around 100$.Does anyone have an idea whats the difference? Then the 74498JU also has almost everything the same apart from windows XP to vista business and it has plus an ultrabase and DVD but costs 300$ less than 74508HU!!!So whats going on??? Which one should i get? I hope lenovo will allow sometime people from other countries to buy online from them because there are some countries that probably you will die or get very old before you can buy new stuff  thanksKonstantinosMessage Edited by kostasls on 11-18-2008 11:51 PMMessage Edited by kostasls on 11-18-2008 11:52 PM

I recently bought a x200t from ebay and just finished installing windows 7 and all the drivers using thinkvantage system update. The two problems I am having are: The display gets skrewed up from time to time. Here is a screenshot to show what's happening. The second problem is with the pen. My model only supports the pen input. I installed sketchbook pro, but I can't get the pressure sensitivity to work. I've searched a lot for this and have found a few old posts. But, what is currently the best solution to this problem?

Answer:Two questions about the x200 tablet

To diagnose the display skrewed issue, I would suggest you to please update the Bios of your notebook from the below mentioned web link.http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/7wuj44us.exe

Regarding the sketchbook pro software, It might be compatibilty issue with digitizer driver. Kindly uninstall it and check it works fine.

Regards,Sameer

Hi all, This started of as an email to direct to Lenovo, but after 1 hour of going through there various websites only to discover they don't seem to have an online contact form or a public email address. So I am hoping someone here can help me with my questions.  I have a few questions regarding the IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad x200 Tablet (7450-R93).I am aware that this is not your current model and they have been superseded by the x201 model. The x200?s ?touchscreen?, I cannot seem to find any precise details regarding the type of touch screen technology used in these units. What type of touch technology is used in the x200: Resistive, SAW, Capacitive, Hybrid Capacitive or something else?If we were to purchase a lot of between 5-10 brand new units from the USA, is the warranty offered an international warranty?Do you still produce/sell accessories for this model: specifically batteries and do you make a case for this unit that enables table use while still in the case? Sorry I was to slack to rewrite the email that I prepared to send. ;-) Cheers, Matt

Answer:A couple of Thinkpad X200 Tablet Questions

"The x200?s ?touchscreen?, I cannot seem to find any precise details regarding the type of touch screen technology used  in these units. What type of touch technology is used in the x200: Resistive, SAW, Capacitive, Hybrid Capacitive or something else?" I own a x200t but not THAT x200t you are looking for, so i don't know. But i can tell you that when it comes to the digitizer option on a x200t you have basicaly 3 options:1) you only have an active digitizer (wacom made) that can be used with the included stylus.2) you have the wacom digitize + the passive-resistive digitizer. The latter can be used with your finger.3)wacom+passive capacitive multitouch digitizer. The fact is that the first x200t models ha the reistive option only. But the last x200t also implemented the wacom capacitive multitouch one.  "If we were to purchase a lot of between 5-10 brand new units from the USA, is the warranty offered an international  warranty?"From what i know ALL lenvo thinpad tablet (x200t or x201t) are sold ONLY with internationa warranty. It doesn't depend on the number  of units you want to purchase. "Do you still produce/sell accessories for this model: specifically batteries and do you make a case for this unit that  enables table use while still in the case?"The accessories are the same fr x200t and x201t. Same are the batteries (8cell or 4 cell), same is the stylus and same is the bumpcase. For the case you are lokking for take a ... Read more

For the past 3 weeks my thinkpad table x200 has not been working. Thanks to the great lenovo/ibm support. I am looking for help. I called the support and explained the problem, I was encountering with my thinkpad tablet. They told me, I have to reinstall vista. So they sent me the vista/lenovo install disk. Very fast (3 weeks later, so yesterday) I finally get the dvds (3 in total). But how do I install vista without a dvdplayer. Unfortunately,I don't have one with my machine. I supposed, they knew what they were doing at Lenovo.  Does anyone has a way to do it? Should I place it on an external hardrive, an usb key? Thank you for any help you can give me! If I cann't find a way to do it, I will call back the lenovo/support... gosh at the end of the week, it will be 4 weeks..  Bye Hernan

Answer:How to install vista on my thinkpad tablet x200 without dvdplayer

Do a search online for installing vista through a USB drive. Requires one 4+ GB in size. Isn't a terribly hard thing to do.

Hi,I have a problem with my X200 tablet under vista: After a hangup the fingerprint, keyboard and trackpoint does not work. After login with external mouse and keyboard I did not find any mistake. Can anybody help? And another question:I want to change to Win7 because Vista ist bulls.... on this system. Is it possible to get an preload harddisk with Win7 and all Lenovo tools?Or a DVD for installation? Thanx

Answer:X200 tablet vista problem Keyboard, Trackpoint, Fingertip

It's not that great under Windows 7 either.... I've tried 7, vista and XP. So far windows xp is the least of the 3 evils. For windows 7 if you really want it (& if you don't mind that some of the hotkeys don't work under Windows 7 - installing extra drivers won't help this) you need the specifics from lenovo as to which installation cd you need to order from microsoft for normal X200 tablet function (I believe they charged about $40 dollars  Canadian for it)  in addition to a windows 7 OS code/key (around $90 dollars - not sure what that converts to in Switzerland, if you're a student).Hope that helps  Btw, what do you mean by hangup?

Hi there I want to move from Vista to Windows 7 on my X200, have retail Pro DVD, but don't have an external DVD drive. I've read Lenovo's Windows 7 Clean Installation - ThinkPad. Although it doesn't mention install from a USB drive, sounds easy enough, e.g. http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-7-Discussion/Installing-Windows-7-on-an-X301-with-no-optical-dri... What I'm not clear about is whether the S and Q partitions survive the clean install? If so, will they still allow factory reset to Vista? This could be handy if I want to sell the Thinkpad in future.

Answer:Vista => Win 7 on X200 questions: S and Q drives

Q and S partitions, if not explicitly formatted will remains, on your hdd. What is likely to be lost is the original bootsector and bcd infos, so no f11 functions anymore. So is mandatory to build the recovery medias (at least the first recovery cd) before a clean install. I suggest also making the C: partition active before a clean install, doing so the clean install should be update only the C: bootsector letting untouched the original one on the S: partition and the F11 function.

I installed the latest updates for my X200 tablet from Lenovo and after that install, everything starts up, I see the little round windows graphic and the cool intro sound, then the screen goes blank....the HD light continues to blink every now and then, but the system never comes back to life and I've left it in this state hoping it would "wake up" overnight. I'm guessing I need to reinstall Vista 64, but when I purchased this unit a couple months ago, I couldn't figure out how to create these disks..... , and my last backup was backed up to my USB external HD, and in it's present state, I can't access this USB drive. I've done the fnct F7 and fnct F8, still no response. I depend on this laptop for business and need it for a meeting in the morning.  Is there a way to prove I'm a fully legal MS Vista 64 owner and "download" this software to another computer in my house to burn them to disk and then use that to reinstall Vista 64?  Any other suggestions? BTW, I absolutely love my X200 tablet.  As a result of just using it daily in meetings, close to 25 other folks have purchased the same one after seeing the "pen mode" Please help me bring her back to life.....

Answer:X200 Tablet blank screen after Vista 64 initial startup symbol appears

Welcome to the club! Guess I'll cross-link these two posts for others to stumble upon. Log-in fails after October 2009 ThinkVantage updates I'd always assumed that the restore disks I had were for a Vista 64 restore. But the only thing I have are a rescue and recovery disk to use with Win XP Professional and 2 Product Recovery Disks for XP Tablet PC Edition SP2. I can't find any disks with Vista 64. Was this supposed to happen? Doesn't sound like you have a Vista 64 restore either. I too used mine for work. This is quite the bummer. I'll probably hold out for another week or so to see if there's a fix before breaking down and doing a re-image. There is a X61T owner that has a similar problem to us. Using Vista as well but not sure which version. Vista ex. boot/ logon issues after installing patches on a x61 tabletI wonder how many others are going to have the same problem.

Hello everyone,I want to get a x200 tablet (7453-AH3) just for programming classes, but wonder whether x200 will run VS2013 with win8.1 well, such as response speed, smooth or not, a lot lags or not, etc.. Also, will OneNote work well on it? Could anyone give some comments/suggestions/ideas on this? If I put a SSD in, will that make it better? If not, is that possible to upgrade X200 tablet motherboard & CPU to make it better? Any help would be appreciate!

Welcome to the forum!

I'm not a programmer so I can't comment on VS2013, but I can tell you my own X200T is running Win8.1 perfectly fine, I'm using a two year old Plextor SSD and 8 GB RAM. I haven't experienced any lag or slow performance with my daily couch surfing activities or the occasional HD movie watching on the road.

Hello I recently bought the tablet second hand. now really wish I had not. I cannot get sound out of the speakers, despite installing the sound driver from the lenovo archive for Dec 2010. I am running windows 7 ultimate. Should I just accept that I have no sound from the speaker and live with it?

Answer:X200 Tablet Windows 7 x64 no sound

Can a pro systematically go through all the options with me to try and get sound working? the bars are moving on the mixer. Is the sound now bricked, destroyed? My dad's Thinkpad T41 has no such problem, which is shocking as thinkpads are known to be reliable.

I have a ThinkPad X200 and there's a ThinkVantage button on the keyboard, but nothing happens when I press it or when I click on the ThinkVantage Productivity Center in all programs, which appears to be installed in Program Files. When I go to the Lenovo website, it doesn't list the X200 as a supported system for this. Is it supposed to work? If so, why isn't the model listed? If not, why is the button on my keyboard? What I'm really trying to find are diagrams of both the laptop and the ultrabase so I can understand how to use them properly. Can someone direct me to those? I've been searching the very confusing Lenovo website without success. Thanks.

Answer:ThinkVantage for X200?

at the top of this page click on support and downloads, on the page that appears on the top right type in your model, example x200 7448.  the next page will bring up all the diagrams, tech pages, how to pages, your ultrbase will be there and there will be another search tab in the same place as the last page you can type in example x200 7448 ultrabase, or x200 7448 wireless card, you get the idea.  as far as your thinkvantage button goes the only thing mine does it will put me into the bios setup page if i push it at the first splash  screen.

I have a HP Stream 7 5700na that had windows 8.1 installed. I purchased as it was cheap at the time & I thought how bad could windows 8.1 be on a tablet. Well I barely used it because I hated it. Everything was small & very sensitive trying to close tabs, open settings & other things seemed very slow also.

Well, I took a risk & I downloaded the media creation tool from MS, selected to Upgrade & let to do its thing. It took around an hour to download & install but once done when presented after the welcome screen the windows menu was permanently open like you couldn't have the desktop on its own. I thought damn it was a failure. But to mu surprise after restarting the tablet WOW is all I can say. Its actually the tab section of the windows 10, no desktop & everything you need is clear & easy to access & whats more, its damn fast.

Doing a bit of research & the HP Stream 7 5700na was discontinued & prices fell because of the poor performance with windows 8.1 on it but with windows 10 it zips like its on ice & its actually enjoyable to use.

Very happy & if anyone has a windows 8.1 tablet they they want to try & suggest you do because it puts a whole new level of usability to it!

Recieved my brand new loaded x200 tablet last month and since then I've been having issues with sleeping. For whatever reason, only some of the time, when I try to put the tablet into sleep, it simply won't. The status lights will remain as they were, the screen will go black, and nothing will remove it from this state. The only option is to pull the battery or hold the power switch till it powers off completely. I updated to the newest intel 4500 drivers (newer than lenovo's page) for graphics, and double checked that every other driver was current. I also saw mention of intel virtualization stuff causing issues, but changes haven't fixed it. I'm having a hard time diagnosing it as it doesn't even seem to appear in the windows system logs. Specs are: X200 Tablet with Win 7 enhanced experience, multi finger multi touch display, L9400 with 4GB ram, webcam, fingerprint, 5inone card reader with modem, 5400 rpm 160gb hdd, not anywhere near the ultrabase when this happens.

Answer:X200 tablet with windows 7 fails to sleep

I have precisely the same problem. It happens randomly when I try to sleep or hibernate the tablet. Happens when either docked to the ultrabase or not. Very frustrating that I can't trust the laptop to sleep when I need it to.

The touch device on our x200 tablets has always been called Wacom Serial Pen Tablet.  Works fine in XP.  I'm trying to get one working with Windows 7 now.  The "multitouch" driver from Lenovo doesn't work (I don't think these tablets are multitouch anyways) and the driver straight from Wacom results in a BSOD.  The "Wacom Serial Pen Tablet" driver apparently comes with Windows 7, because it's there if I manually choose a driver.  I once got it to work forcing it to use that driver, but now after reinstalling again it just says the device cannot start.  Any ideas?

Hey Zebra, I recently had an rtfm moment with this issue.  I had installed and reinstalled the Tablet Button Drivers... or so I thought.   Checkout the readme for the driver.  After you double click the .exe, it looks as if it installs, but all that does is extract the files to a folder on the HD.   Probably here C:\DRIVERS\WIN\TBBTN unless you changed it.  Go there and click setup.exe.... you'll have to reboot when it is done.  HTH

I am trying to work on OBD2 bluetooth car dongles and, because of traditional Windows difficulties with phantom serial port retention, I needed to find a machine with little in the way of features that could confuse me by having many serial ports already in use. I also wanted to use Windows 10 to look at its enhanced features eg bluetooth in Microsoft Message Analyser. My old X200T looked ideal. It worked perfectly in W7 and provided pen and single touch, thus being ideal for working in the front seat of a vehicle. The update to W10 went well, and the pen works fine, but single touch does nothing. At one stage in thrashing about with drivers, I had it working on the touch calibration on-screen "targets", but it did nothing when I touched the on-screen touch pads. Even that has now stopped working. I think the problem may be related to the fact that Microsoft is telling me that it has Pen and Touch support with 2 Touch points. If I uninstall everything related to Wacom and reboot, Pen disappears, but Touch with 2 touch points always comes back. Has anyone else seen this and found a workaround?

Dear community, I found my screen starts flickering not long after I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 on my thinkpad x200 tablet. It happens especially when I have an external monitor connected to the laptop and when I maximize a Microsoft Edge brower on screen. Scrolling the mouse will trigger the lines on a page flickering back and forth or partially disappeared. This is really annoying when I want to scroll down a little bit to find some useful information. I have tried to use the "sfc /scannow" command to identify potential problems and to reinstall compatible Thinkpad graphics and video drivers, but no luck. I have also tried other solutions that I can find online (like disabling the issue reporting service), yet still this problem persists. I contacted Microsoft for their assistance, and they suggest me to ask the manufacture to solve this problem. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks,Qi

Answer:Screen flickering on Thinkpad X200 tablet with Windows 10

Here is a quick soultion to this screen problem in windows 10  1. Type ?msconfig? in run box and open it 2. Click on the ?Services? tab. 3 Scroll down and find two services named ?Problem Reports and Solution Control Panel ?and ?Windows Error Reporting Service?. If you have difficulty finding these two services then you click on ?Service? column header in the table. This will alphabetically arrange all the services. 4. Uncheck these two services. Press ?OK?. Source: Fix windows 10 screen flickering problem

I have an X200 tablet running Windows 7. If a USB device is plugged in (mouse, drive etc) and the notebook enters sleep mode after some time (as defined in the  power plan), an attempt to awaken it results in a notebook hang. The notebook appears to wake up but the login screen is never displayed. The screen remains blank. The power plan has the "USB selective suspend setting" disabled but the same issue occurs even when this setting is enabled. I have deleted the USB drivers and reinstalled them. All MS and Thinkpad drivers and updates are current. Has anyone else encountered the same issue? Greatly appreciate any feedback on remediation methods. Thanks.

Answer:Windows XP tablet edytion and problem with driver X200

Hi Wogabun and welcome to the community,

Download and install TVSU and run it and see what it comes up with.  You'll need MS Net Framework 1.1 or 2.0 at least for it to run.

Hello to all.I have a problem with my X200 tablet  P/N 7449-FWG which after upgraded to windows 7 does not detect the following devices:- Mobile Broadband- Wireless USB- Intel WI Max- GPS receiverAll the above where installed and functioning when the machine shipped to me last August running Vista Pro 64-bit There is another change symptom. When it worked under Vista, the machine remembered the state of wireless devices after hibernation/reboot. Now, under  Windows 7 the machine boots with bluetooth always off, and i must go to FN-F5 to activate it. All the rest seem to work perfectly.Any help would be appreciated, because i tried anything i could think of to resolve the problem. Regards  -

Answer:X200 Tablet wireless problems after upgrading to windows 7

Depending on the upgrade procedure, Windows downloads and installs some, but not all of the drivers needed for Thinkpads. The remaining drivers can be obtained from Lenovo's website for X200 Tablets at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70476 or more simply using Thinkvantage System Update (TVSU) that can be downloaded at  http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/TVSU-UPDATE.html. After installing, run TVSU and choose the drivers and programs needed. Note - Lenovo's Win7 upgrade kit includes a separate disk for installing Thinkvantage System Update and other Thinkpad drivers and utilities.

Dear Lenovo support staff  / community, I just purchased a brand-new X200 and the pen / touch / tablet feature works out-of-the-box with its pre-installed Windows Vista 64-bit OS.  Because the applications I intend to use the Tablet with do not support Vista 64-bit (namely, Dragon Systems), I used the Windows XP Tablet Edition SP-2 Product Recovery Disc kit that came with the Lenovo tablet, and followed the conversion instructions included in the booklet down to the letter. However, when it converted the OS to Windows XP, the pen / touch functionality is completely gone, and I am unable to find any help online, or in Lenovo product support when called in. Installing the Multitouch drivers on the Lenovo support site for X200 drivers does not work, and installing the WACOM drivers does nothing either. I can confirm this is most likely a 100% repro case, as I have two brand new X200 Tablets and the same behavior is exhibited on both. Please advise.

So I upgraded to Windows 10, everything works out, but I noticed from Matlab that the OpenGL support is only on the version of 1.1. I further pocked around , and found the graphics accelerator driver is from Microsoft and has some known issues (from Matlab). Then I downloaded the Intel Driver Update Utility to update the graphics driver, but nothing can be found there. Back to Windows 7, the Intel Driver works fine for me and gave OpenGL ~2.2 support. Does anyone knows better drivers in Windows 10 than the default Microsoft one? Thanks in advance.

1) Yes, as soon as you connect to internet. Not unless you have you have 10 Enterprise and then you can only delay install
2) No, it will install all. No choice like in prev Windows versions. If you want, you can disable device driver updates only. Read how here - How to Uninstall and Block Updates and Drivers on Windows 10
3) It's always in the background unless you kill the process. Very little drain, much less than opening a browser window or running anti-virus.

Hi mate,

I have almost the same machine so I guess I can enlight you with my experience with this machine type:

1. No, unfortunately not, the second disk acts like a second HDD and nothing more. You can do some software RAID which comes closer to your intention but it?s not the same like hardware RAID.
2. No and Yes. No means the CPU won?t work with an higher frontsidebus but Yes the modules do work in the machine. I guess the modules will be underclocked to 667Mhz to operate with the designated frontsidebus of the CPU.
3. If you have an SLI machine, you?re able to disable the second card.
4. No, only Celeron and Core2Duo.
5. Yes, socket has 479 pins butwhat do you mean with ball fitting?

Greets

By the way, this machine is not an desktop.. ;)

x200 laptop - type 7454Windows XP Professional SP3 So I recently used the Thinkvantage Productivity tools to perform an "Update".  Unfortunately it resulted in a series of issues that I would have hoped that a good QA process would have caught. So it found quite a bit of software it wanted to update.  Amongst many things was flashing the BIOS to the latest firmware.  I let it run through the automated process, and clicked accept to allow the BIOS update after checking that the x200 laptop was plugged in with a full battery.  It ran through the process and restarted resulting... - display booting at VGA 640x480 resolution, 16 colors,  couldn't change from Display properties- error message about ACWLicon.exe with bad entry point in a dll I re-ran the Thinkvantage update, it found nothing to update.  Compounding this, was that Support.lenovo.com was offline in "maintenance" mode. Anyway, the solution was fairly straightforward,  wait for support downloads site to be online again, and then:- download and install the Video package for lcd/monitor adapter- run CCcleaner to clean up registry- download and install Thinkvantage Access Connections Once you did that, it was all good again.  However, would have thought that Thinkvantage Update should have installed updates in correct order in first case, and in second case after everything was screwed up, reinstalled the Video and Access Connnections drivers. &nbs... Hi,. the particular model of my x200 is 7453-FJ9. I bought it from ebay and the seller claimed is was multi-touch. After checking on the Levono support page where you identify the machine features through the model # above, it does not mention anything about being touch capable let alone multitouch. However, since I installed a new copy of windows 7 pro 64-bit on a new hdd, after installing all of the automated lenovo and windows updates, I checked the system properties and it states 'Pen and Single Touch Input Available' as shown in my system properties screen below.

Link to picture

I have tried to use the single touch input but it does not seem to be working. I have tried calibrating touch input though the screen calibration and it has not worked. I have looked at the HCI devices in the device manager and it shows 'Wacom Penabled MiniDriver','Bluetooth Remote Control', 'HID Compliant Consumer Control Device' and several repeated entries of 'HID-compliant device' but nothing about touch input !

I don't understand what is going on, do you think this tablet has touch input available ? Should I try install the touch driver on the lenovo website ? the wacom website ? or am i just wasting my time thinking it has touch input since it is not mentioned on the 7453-FJ9 lenovo support page (that I can see). Any advice on this would be kindly appreciated..

I am sorry if this question has come up many times and I am repeating things here.  But I am quite upset at what I have received - a Basic Vista plus tens of background unknowable processes that cause endless errors and wireless problems.  As much as I like the hardware (T500 2242 CTO), and the 1680 CFL screen, I cant stand the Lenovo software and MS Vista.  Vista is a scam.  It may improve the friendliness a bit, but it unnecessarily hides everything and treats the user like an invalid.  I find Vista half as functional as my old XP SP3.  And then Lenovo taking away 20GB of my drive is a scandal (Q and S drives). I wish to nuke Vista and nuke ThinkVantage and install XP and wake out of my nightmare.  I reckon I have spent about $5,000 of my time just getting the T500 to be partly usable.  I give up.  I am back to XP. 1-  How do I create a set of DVDs so that if XP fails, at least I can backtrack to Vista Basic? 2-  Do I need to do anything more than insert my XP SP3 CD, setup BIOS boot, and start nuking C:, Q:, and S:? 3-  Then download device drivers from this website and install? Is there a manual for this?  What if I need a driver to establish network connection to get the driver in the first place - a catch 22 situation? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Talis

Answer:Vista + ThinkVantage == disaster / Want to nuke to Windows XP

BTW, I do not plan to install ThinkVantage after I go to XP.  Does that create me a problem?  And would my Roxio burner still work? Talis

I've got an x200 tablet that doesn't do so well as a tablet.I've gotten everything from the dreaded blue screen when the pen is touched to it,  to it being totally unresponsive to pen input. Everything but the tablet issue seems to work fine. Hasn't been dropped, smashed or had any liquids poured on it. Also has (had?) an obnoxious amount of antivirus/spyware/ect. software.Downloaded every driver, went back to several restore points and even took it all the way back to its out of the box state with recovery disks.Took it into the tech/repair center at my university. They had it for three weeks and didn't know what to do with it either...It's still under warranty, but even if it's not somehow covered I'd much rather pay repair costs than buy a new computer. So what the heck do I do with it now? Send it back to the company? (Really resisting the urge to set it on fire.)

Answer:x200 not being much of a tablet

Which O/S are you running?   I have an X200T (7448-CTO) and, after about 1.5 years under Vista, it started to develop severe flakiness (e.g. frequent IE and Office app crashes) although the tablet functionality was still working OK.  I finally decided to bite the bullet and  install Windows 7 fresh (not an upgrade over Vista).  The process that Win7 uses is interesting in that it places the previous (Vista) Windows directory in something called Windows.old.   It does not reformat the drive nor does it delete any other directories on C:/.  That process worked great for me (NB was/is virus free) although, in your case, I wonder if it wouldn't be smarter to relocate all of your documents and settings (e.g. favorites, contacts) to another storage medium and, quite literally, reformat the entire hard drive before installing a new O/S.  After Win7 has completed, install the Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox and it will perform all of the driver upgrades which, in my case, went near flawlessly.   All of my peripheral worked right away including the tablet functionality.  I did have to recalibrate the pen/tablet and work through the handwriting recognition training, but those tasks are only tedious, not difficult.  The only small issue I had, initially, was a SmartAudio driver error which, somehow, fixed itself.    I know that some people have reported issues with Win7/Thinkpad compatibility, but I can only report a comp... I'm in the market for a new notebook, and I've really become enamored with the X200 tablet. Well, actually it was the X301 that first caught my eye, but it's just not fully-featured enough for me. Too bad, as I really liked the weight and the WXGA+ on a 13.3" display. Anyway, I'm a Windows applications developer, and I'm trying to determine the X200 tablet's suitability for my needs. As a programmer, I can always make use of additional display resolution, but I've simulated some WXGA screenshots on a 12.1" display, and I'm thinking it could work for me. I'd appreciate it if others could chime in here with what they use their own X200 tablet for on a regular basis and how well it performs and displays those tasks. Thanks.

Answer:What do you use your X200 tablet for?

Hi Rich, I use my X200 Tablet for everything and cannot say enough good things about it. I wear many hats right now Director of IT, Student, and believe or not I take it to church. I take my tablet everywhere! Currently I'm taken a Marketing class and DB design class and use it for notes and for MS Access running on windows 7 BETA. I have owned the all the X series tablets since the x41 which still run. Some of the problems I run into with DB design is the smaller screen but really it is not a huge factor because I'm in class when I'm at work I use the dock with 24" widescreen. I take my tablet to meetings, give presentations, and use it in place on my desktop. The only thing I would caution against is the process power for your type of development. For example it does not encode video as fast as a desktop but it can do it better than other notebooks in it's class. If you need speed and screen size try the W700 series with WACOM digitizer pad.  What I like most about the X series tablets is it's lightweight portability, performance, wireless options, and durability. I have download 50 eBooks, several text books, and read the electronic versions of eweek and love the annotate on them. If fact my wife makes fun me when I take it to the bathroom for reading materials. I can say that the tablet has changed the way I function in daily life. My wife is a Direct of IT as well and I finally got her to use a tablet with the same results.  The la... Read more

Hello, I was recently given a x200 tablet and was told that the screen supported both touch and stylus input. So far however I have only managed to get a response from the stylus. I'm running windows 7, Is there something that I'm missing or does this device only support the stylus? Any in site would be very much appreciated :}

Answer:Help with x200 tablet

Hi! I would first check if you indeed have a model that supports multitouch. Please go here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/partsLookup.page You'll then need to enter your machine type, which is a 4 digit code on the bottom of the laptop. Then enter the serial number (located right from the model type, it says something like S/N xxxxxx) and you will get a list of the components installed on your X200T. Try to identify the screen and post the resuts here. My 2 cents...

Hi:I'm looking at purchasing the X200 tablet. I'm looking at the SL9600 offering as well as some of the other whistles and bells. What I am curious about is if there is any intention to replace the VGA port with a digital video interface such as HDMI as well as if there are any plans for a touch pad mouse. I'd hate to buy now just to have the VGA port replaced with HDMI next month. Also, I keep coming across all the different model numbers. Is there any good reference as far as the model numbers. I saw a posting here from last year with similar questions as mine and thought to get it updated.Any advisement on planned upgrades to the X200 in the near term by Lenovo would be appreciated and help me determine when to pull the trigger. Thanks

Answer:What is new with the X200 Tablet

I would wait. The X201 has been announced, so the X200 may come down in price.

Question: X200 Tablet

I got a X200 Tablet Thinkpad through my old school because it was part of the requirements. And i want to reformat my thinkpad but when i bought the thinkpad, i got no OS disk with it. How can i reformat it? Any help? Thanks ;D

Answer:X200 Tablet

Which OS are you using on the X200t? There is the recovery partition on the hdd, which allows you to recover the system to the factory condition (which reinstalls the OS + driver), you can burn the recovery media from windows provided you have the usb dvd/cd burner or the ultrabase with the ultrabay dvd/cd burner.

Is the x200 tablet coming out in 2.13 Ghz?? I found that it said Lenovo Canada offered this... however I live in Canada and I do not see this option. I also called their Sales Rep and Technical support, and nobody was sure.... Anybody know? I love my X200 in 1.2 Ghz as of now, I can only imagine how dreamy it would be with another Ghz    http://www.gottabemobile.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/x200tablet_canada.png Message Edited by ironslave on 05-21-2009 01:00 PM

Question: X200 Tablet Help

Hi. I am having troubles with my lenovo x200 tablet running windows 7 32-bit.Last night it was working fine but this morning i turned it on and went into windows but i cannot log on because it goes to sleep automatically every 5 seconds or so. The 4 indicator lights are also flashing instead of staying still like the wireless and bluetooth indicator light if that makes a difference. Help is appreciated. Thank you in advance =)

Answer:X200 Tablet Help

It sounds like the notebook is low in power, either the battery has no charge or is not holding charge (old/defective). If it's plugged in  AC outlet already, then possibly computer hardware issue. Please refer to page 23 in the "Service and Troubleshooting Guide". You might need to have your unit serviced.

Question: X200 Tablet

Our company recently bought over 100 of the above. Lately we have noticed the mainboards have gone on several of them. Usually receive BIOS beeps indicating the video. Was just wondering whether others have had the same experience?

Answer:X200 Tablet

Assuming the specimens that failed were distributed across a broad range of users that weren't  in the vicinity of the same EMP then the law of quantities and percentages seems particularly visccious in this case. We purchase in lots of 25 and just sourced 75 hingers and 75 tablets and of varying Type's and didn't have a single DoA nor failure in the last  month. The reason we keep buying the most expensive laptop made is we know the quality can be assumed and the service can be assured, if you're geting bad service for any reason than expect swarms of assistance from the mod employees here determined to rectify your issues and ensure you choose Thinkpad for your next round of gear.

I'm looking to buy an X200 tablet for school this fall, but I'm curious about the Trusted Platform Module (TPM).  I'm not a big fan of having TPM on my personal use equipment, thought I do see the advantages in a managed IT infrastructure.  According to the maintenance manual there are motherboards available both with and without the "security chip"/TPM feature, but purchasing one separately is a joke (US$1,400 or more) considering the cost of the base unit itself.  When customizing a unit on the Lenovo store there is no option for purchasing without a TPM.  The tacover.pmd document lists the TPM as being integrated into the ICH9M chip, which is the reason for needing a whole separate motherboard to get a unit without a TPM. Long story short, is it possible to have Lenovo build me a unit with a non-TPM motherboard? Thanks in advance.

Answer:X200 tablet available without TPM?

you can switch off the feature in the BIOS, it would probably cost the same regardless.... but unless you have a large order of some sort, these sort of things are not negotiable on a single build basis.

Just received an old 4GB X200 tablet with Windows 10 Pro via eBay to use for browsing.   I've found it quite fast and love the keyboard.  Old tech, but better than a lot of newer equipment.  And at $79 delivered, no way to lose, and it is very similar to my favorite T420. As it uses a 2.5" HDD, i am thinking about switching to an SSD (as I have with my T420).  I understand that the X200 uses Sata 2 and was wondering how others have found performance when doing this with an X200. I've found no problems with drivers so far, but are there more desirable ones than the Microsoft ones in Windows 10 for graphics, etc.?

Hello, I'm a relative newbie, so please forgive me if I ask a question that already has been covered (I did not find it).I just received my X240, my first Thinkpad ever, and  I'm loving it so far! I have a few things I don't understand though...-My X240 is equipped with 500 GB HDD and 16GB mSata SSD, and has Windows 8 64-bit., but the SSD doesn't show up in File Explorer (I see only 1 drive, this is the C drive 'Lenovo PC'). In Disk Management I do see it, and it's labeled with 'OEM something', but there is also a OEM Recovery partition on the C Drive. The 16 GB SSD is too small for Windows 8 I assume, and Windows 8 is on the C drive if I'm correct, so what is the purpose of the SSD exactly? Supposedly to speed things up, but how is it configured on the X240? -If I choose to replace my HDD with SSD in future, what do I do with the 16GB msata SSD then and how do I get the original Lenovo Windows 8 installation state on the new SSD? -I want to make a system backup on an external drive (in case my HDD crashes and the recovery partition cannot be used). Supposedly there is the ThinkVantage software that comes with backup components ('Rescue and ...'something), but I can't find it on my system, I think it is Windows 7 only. What is the best way to go here? I can buy specialized software of course, and Windows 8 also seems to have some backup utility, but I thought ThinkVantage was a great tool supplied with Thinkpad laptops and already contained system bac... Answer:X240 msata SSD and ThinkVantage questions

Hi,1. the small SSD is for the cache purpose only, for data access speed up. The drive couldn't be shown in win file manager, it's normal.ExpressCache Software is using for this cache drive. Application is factory preloaded on your laptop. In any case it could be found on the Lenovo support site on your laptop download page.2. Of course with new "big" SSD such cache SSD isn't needed. Deinstall application I mentioned above and then you can remove the cache drive. There is a capability to install new Win8.1 Update on the small drive using new technology (it'll occupy less then 4 gb) but this process isn't easy and needs computing skills.3. that application for win7 is named Rescue & Recovery. It doesn't support win8 so use win built-in backup application or 3rd party one like Acronis True Image Home.4. If the new SSD isn't Lenovo service part and as SSD/HDD in the new line laptops isn't customer replaceable unit there might be a problem with warranty if you'll replace it yourself. I'd advice perform it but remove and insert original HDD back if you'll you'll need to contact with official service center.Do not forget to make Windows Factory Recovery Media.

Question: X200 Tablet boot

Hello, I have a Thinkpad X200 Tablet running windows 7. When I trun it on it takes about 20-30 mins to boot up. After booting up it work just fine no problems at all. So, I want to know what is causing this problem, is it a hrdware issue of a software issue. Thanks in advance, AbuFares

Answer:X200 Tablet boot

This may not be your issue, but there is a documented problem with the X200T of a "slow boot" (60-90 sec) when started with the lid closed (external monitor/keyboard attached). The problem was recently resolved with a bios update (3.14-1.06). However, the delay was not 20-30 mins. Until the bios were updated, the work-around was to open the lid, which kick-started the boot process. Suggest checking to ensure you have most current bios/drivers. ~ Ken

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate. Short story: The green power indicator (the (Z) light) will be on, but the computer is otherwise entirely unresponsive and is absolutely silent: the fan isn't running and CPU/processor isn't clicking away.  My only way of successfully interacting with it is by holding the power button to force a power-down.  Is this a hardware problem? Long story: Initially, I had a problem with sleep mode; when I would close my computer, it would go to sleep and when I reopened it, it would remain asleep.  The green moon light, indicating sleep mode, was on, but the computer was otherwise unresponsive.  Even holding the power button to force a power down was futile, unless I pressed the button within seconds of opening the notebook. Scanning the Internet lead to a lot of people having similar, but not exactly so, problems with their ThinkPads, but the popular solution (turning off hybrid sleep) did nothing, as it was already off.  I pressed the ThinkVantage button and downloaded whatever updates were available for that, and once the download was finished, I restarted my computer, which also installed a few Windows updates which had been waiting in the background.  Windows did its usual installation as it powered down, and as it restarted, the problems I described in the Short story version above began.  I've been stuck at this point ever since.  The RAM and hard drive appear to be undamaged.&... Question: X200 tablet WiFi

hi, I'm new so be nice. I made an attempt to put a mini centrino WiFi card into my Tablet but it responded with non authorised card present.card is  FRU-6Y3231 and the tablet is X200, 7450-RM9, looking at the parts listings it should be OK.I have try to put the card into the empty second PCI slot next to the HD, it install the drivers, but complains about the master switch no being ON , even the bluetooth is on, FN5 shows all systems go but no WiFi light. so not happy.Any ideas what I need to do Thanks Pete

The X200t doesn't use a half length miniPCIe wireless card. The Intel 5100 and 5300 cards used in these systems are full length.

Question: x200 tablet memory

I have 2GB memory in my x200 tablet now. Will it work if I put another 1 GB memory inside? Or it has to work in pairs, like 2 X 2GB?

Answer:x200 tablet memory

The memory doesn't have to be paired, matched, same manufacturer, or identical. It has to be compatible with the hardware used. In other words, it has to be 204-pin PC3-8500 DDR3 memory modules. If you are currently using 2 x 1GB modules, you will need to purchase a 2GB module to have a total of 3GB. I would suggest you check to see what configuration you have. Either 1 x 2GB module or 2 x 1GB modules. You can check this with software [CPU-Z] or by physically removing the panel and verifying the configuration.  Note: If checking with CPU-Z, download and run the utility. Click the "SPD" tab. Click the drop-down box labeled "Slot #1". The details should show wether it's a 1GB module or a 2GB module. If it's a 1GB module, select "Slot #2", and it should show you that it contains another 1GB module. Hope this helps.

Question: X200 Tablet sound

Hi, My X200 Tablet's sound controll is very poor. When adjusting volume to 0, the sound is 0. But if I turn up the volum to 1, the descible level is rather high - almost jumping to a medium level of my X60 Tablet. From volume level 1 and further up to 25 the adjustment is more or less linear. This is really anoying when I want to use my computer when travelling, putting on some soft background music or other things, as there is no level that is equal to a low level volume. To get the same level of sound when having the volume adjusted to 1, that I have on my X60 Tablet, or other computers for the sake, I have to use the program interal volume control to adjust the volume as well. For watching a movie in VLC (www.videolan.org) at the same sound level "1" as for the X60 Tablet, I have to turn the X200 Tablet's volume level to 1, and the the internal volume control in VLC to 5%, instead of just leaving it at 100% as it is on the X60 Tablet. I tried to adjust the volume with the ThinkVantage buttons, the windows volume from both in the tray window and from control panel. Anyone got a clue where the problem is, and what I am doing wrong? ThinkVantage System Update should be up to date with all drivers installed I think. Best regards,OAB

Answer:X200 Tablet sound

I have now installed Windows 7 on my X200 Tablet, and after installing Windows 7 the sound issue was automatically solved. Why this was a problem on XP, I never spent enough resources to find out and remains a mystery, but it leads me to think it was problems with software / drive incompatability. It is nice to have a normal working computer, having the same or better stability as Windows XP, with the same features and more than Vista. So for you that might encounter the same problem, not finding a solution for XP, I can recommed get Windows 7 Ultimate. Br OA

I have a Lenovo X200 Tablet with a 128-gigabyte SSD. So far, it's wonderfully fast and long on battery life, so "yay." How do I keep it this way, though? I usually use System Mechanic, but its support doesn't say a thing about "SSD," "Solid state disk" or "solid state drive." That doesn't make me sanguine, so my question is: Is there such a thing as disk defragmentation with an SSD? If so, what do I do about it? It strikes me that tools meant for magnetic media could wreak all kinds of havoc.

Answer:X200 Tablet SSD maintenance

If you ask me, I would say disk defragment help boost performance especially when reading and writing large files-- and what Lenovo recommends is defragging by its tool--you may read @inside the box, Lenovo's blog for some interesting aspect. I don't think tool matters. They all do the same basically, but you should not defrag that often. However, If it comes with like 3-year warranty,  you don't have to care about that =) just backup often. If it breaks one day, just ask for replacement!

I recently purchased a brand new x200 tablet.  Soon after it arrived, one of the USB ports failed (front, right).  I sent it back for repairs and was told they changed out the entire motherboard to resove the issue.  When I received my computer, I found that the port was working fine. Now, two weeks later, the exact same USB port has failed again.  I called Lenovo and was told they would have to change the motherboard again. I have owned many, many laptops previously (including Thinkpads) without any issues.  I must say, it is quite aggravating to have to always send my computer in for repair, as it means I have to transfer all my data and programs to another computer to use, then transfer it back again.   And what concerns me the most is that their seems to be no solution to this USB port issue.  Should I just leave it be and use the computer minus one USB port?

Answer:X200 tablet- two new motherboards

I should note that I have only connected a wireless mouse and USB flash drives to this port.

I am looking to order an x200 Tablet and I am trying to balance my desire to get it NOW with the uncertainty of knowing what's around the corner in the world of computing, particularly in Lenovo world. I know that there is ALWAYS something bigger (smaller?), better, and/or faster coming in the world of laptops but there are times when computing makes huge leaps (case in point: I bought a T42p just weeks before the T60 line came out with Core 2 Duo processors and I was stuck with a machine that could not run 64-bit).Relatively minor things like more RAM, thinner design, brighter screens, etc. is there something HUGE that's expected or rumored to be coming soon from Lenovo, especially in the tablet line? Also, what tends to be the cheapest place to buy Lenovo laptops? It certainly isn't lenovo.com because the same configured x200 tablet there was over $1,050 more there than at bestbuyforbusiness.com and various other resellers. Thanks!

Answer:advice on when to buy x200 tablet

Well, early T60s can't run 64-bit OS either unless you change the CPU which calls for a revision 3 motherboard...so you haven't done that bad with T42p back in the day... Given the current market situation, the fact that X200T is still a pretty new model and changes in Lenovo's leadership and priorities that are likely to shift, I believe that it's a fairly safe bet to say that X200T will remain largely unchanged for quite a while. As for where to shop for one, try Lenovo's outlet or eBay... Hope this helps.

Hello,I recently purchased a X200 Tablet with Windows 7 installed, and I have some queries about some possible problems:  1. I find that when I use my digitizer pen, it becomes inaccurate quite quickly. Sometimes it can become annoying to use after and hour, or after the system is resumed from sleep or hibernation (or when restarted). This means I have to calibrate the pen around 2 to 4 times a day. However, this is not a problem when touching the screen with the finger.  2. The tip of the digitizer pen can move sideward (and slightly in and out, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is how the pen works) and although it doesn't pose a problem (other than possibly causing the problem in the 1st point?), I am wondering whether this is normal. 3. When swiveling the screen round in tablet mode, the screen clicks into place, but is not held there very firmly, i.e. I can press the screen down till it touches the keyboard, and it would bounce back up again. Again, I'm wondering whether this is normal. I'd like to point out that this is my first tablet pc, so, to put it bluntly, I have no idea if I should be worried about these things. I'm also probably a bit paranoid, as these things don't come cheap. Excuse me if these questions may seem a little trivial, but I haven't had any luck finding any answers to them

Hi, I bought my Lenovo X200 Tablet recently in the US as a WWAN ready laptop. I now moved to the UK and I want to start using mobile broadband. I understand I need to order a 3G mini-card to actually allow WWAN.However, before I order this part, I have a few questions: - Does the card work with XP as well (since it only gives Vista as supported system)?- How does the GPS feature in this laptop work: is the receiver on the WWAN card, or does it need WWAN (e.g. through an external dongle modem) to be accesible? (this is one of the cool features I really would like to use)- Does the card work with any SIM or only with Vodafone?- What is the maximum speed supported? 7.2 MBit? Thanks very much in advance, Floris

Answer:X200 Tablet and WWAN

Hi, I can answer a little about the card/GPS.  You do have a sim (or you should) and if you pull out the battery you will see it on the left.  You also should have had a little plastic card that contain the sim included with your order. The webpage for the wireless WAN  says that its also compatible with XP and at the bottom of the page it says world wide.  You will have to verify/try this.  Be sure to have the other programs installed as well for the card.  Now I did go to this webpage and tried this driver but nothing change.  It doesn't say specifically for the tablet but  again nothing changed.  The gps is internal (I don't have to attach anything to get it to work.  The program is ultra basic; there are no option or features to change except is the application that takes your coordinates and displays your location. The default on mine is Google maps. Be aware that you cannot have the GPS Enabler getting satellite data and be online.  The card  turns off the wireless and turns on the WAN.   I'm not sure about the last questions you asked but maybe somebody will fill it in. Update:  From what I have heard you should be able to use any sim, though I haven't tried with mine.  Anfrom the datasheet on the WAN card it says 7.2 MBit DL / 2.0MBit UL.Message Edited by MB on 02-19-2009 09:23 PM
