digitizer/pen does not work when screen is turned 180 degrees counter clockwise (but OK clockwise)

Question: digitizer/pen does not work when screen is turned 180 degrees counter clockwise (but OK clockwise)

After some frustration trying to figure out why my digitizer/pen suddenly stopped working in slate mode, I've determined that if the screen is turned 180 degrees counter clockwise (left) the digitizer/pen stops working, regardless of the tilt of the screen. It works fine in any other position, including 180 degrees clockwise (right). If you're having issues try out the other direction. Is this likely to be a problem with the hinge or a software issue? (windows 7 pro x64) I havn't had this problem before, and although its likely that I favour rotating the screen one way, I would have (probably) noticed it by now. It seems like it has appeared in the last few days. I've used system restore to roll back to my virgin Windows 7 + office installation, and it hasn't solved the problem -- but system restore isn't perfect. I'm loathesome to restore an image of the machine in that state or reinstall Windows 7 until later this month when school calms down since it does work one way. I've tried reinstalling all of the tablet associated lenovo downloads (buttons, shortcut menu...). Any other thoughts?

Preferred Solution: digitizer/pen does not work when screen is turned 180 degrees counter clockwise (but OK clockwise)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I power up my NEC 5210 notebook the Windows log in screen flips on its side. The usual booting-up screens are OK but when it gets to the bit where the list of users is displayed, this is on its side.

It's a new machine which hasn't even been connected to the web or any other device yet.

I don't think I've changed any settings, not deliberately anyway.I was on the Media Player help page when it first happened.

I've tried to re-boot but this doesn't work.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks John.

Right click anywhere on the desktop then select properties>settings>advanced you may well have a tab there called rotation (I have) set that correctly as I suspect that has been changed somehow.

I opened my computer today out of sleep mode and the screen has rotated itself 90 degrees.  I have tried multiple times shutting it down, robooting and nothing is seeming to work.  Have you ever experienced this problem?  The computer is fully functional but I have to tilt my head to the left to see what I am writing.  The mouse is rotated itself as well.  Please help ASAP! Thank you in advance!

My operating system is Windows 7. Tonight my stupid kitten sat on my laptop. Where everything used to be seen normally from top to bottom of the screen has now switched from left to right. So essentially what I'm seeing has turned a half a turn to my left.

Please help me switch it back so I can see things normally again to the typical way of seeing things on a screen.

Thanks, Carla

Please don't laugh, but whilst playing Tombraider Angel of Darkness on my Windows Vista, all the graphics on the screen turned 90 degrees clockwise. I am using it in Comapatablity mode with Windows XP SP2. I was using the right hand 'Alt' key in conjunction with the 'right cursor' key at the time. I had to look at the screen sideways on to log off. And when I restarted the graphics where still in the same state. After fiddling with some of the Movement buttons which move Lara during the game, I managed to get the graophics the right way up. But it happens each time I try to use those particular keys whilst playing the game. Please help if you have any advice. My graphics are Intel Chipset 82945G.Regards cowgirl66

I dont know what went wrong.

My brother was playing a full screen game, as usual, i had played it earlier also.
Every time we started it up, to every time we closed it, everything was fine.

But.

When my brother was playing it, he quit out of it using the ingame GUI, and the screen made a few noise (always does) to show its closing. But this time, when the desktop was showed again, it was completely rotated 90 degrees clockwise lol.

I have no idea what went wrong, but it is extrmely hard to do anything.
Oh and any full screen games still work normally (normal screen) except out-of-game is rotated. So its not a monitor related problem i think.

Here's a screenshot: (the pic has not been rotated, this is what the screen looks like)
[img=http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/8056/94899406xl3.th.gif]

I had a look at the settings from the desktop properties and it says that instead of the settings being 1024x768, its 768x1024 instead.

Except its not stretched, its jut rotated.

My computer specs are:

Monitor Plug and Play.

Intel Pentium 4, 2.8GHz
512 MB RAM
Windows XP Professional SP2

Any help and/or suggestions would be extremely helpful.

Thanks in advance

Answer:Desktop Rotated 90 degrees clockwise. Please help!

I fixed it!!!

I searched everywhere on google and found a solution.

After reading the solution, my friend did it and it is normal now.

The solution was:

Right click desktop and (for me) just above 'Properties', it has an option saying 'Graphics Options' -> 'Rotate'.

And it was at '270 degrees' so just click on 'Normal'.

--I have answered this post just for future reference so if anyone has the same problem they can search it up--

Hi,I have a very short video file from a digital camera and I am using Nero Vision Express to stitch 4 videos together. One clip was shot with the camera in Portrait aspect and all the others were shot in Landscape aspect.Yes, you got it, I really want the 1st one rotated 90 degrees so that we do not all have to turn our tellys and monitors 90 degrees CCW just to view it.If I also said I do not want to pay for the ability would anyone have either;1. Knowledge of how to do it in Nero.or2. Point me in the direction of a piece of shareware or free ware, even demo software that will do the rotation.Oh, and just to keep the pressure up, the video is of a 2yr old on his bike and it has to go to USA so his Grandparents can see it as they have not seen him yet.Hanx!K.

Answer:How can I Rotate Video file 90 degrees clockwise

I am not at home at the moment so can't check, but I believe Windows MovieMaker, which ships with XP, can rotate video. If you load the video in to MM2, rotate it, and then use the "finish movie" wizard to save it to your HD as an .avi file, that should be the job done.

stupid window programs adding that function to only .jpg but not other format.
no I do NOT want to know how to add those fnctions to other format, and NO I do NOT want to learn or get use to it, I want it removed PLEASE.

I used glary, it doesnt help.
I used default program editor, it doesn't show the way to remove it.
I tried using shellexview, shellmenuview, both not user friendly, cant seem to find what I want.

However I have found the registry in regedit to the rotate ones through shellviews but it won't let me make any changes. I tried giving permission so i can change it but it wont give me permission to give permission to change. when i change it says some program still running it but of course nothing is running it and ontop of all that I don't even know how or what to change.

can someone please show me how to get rid of these 2 things in the context menu, or please write a registry for me that I could just double click on it then click OKAY, and it does ALLLLLLLL the work.

thank you so very much with sugar on top + 2 hairy thumbs up.

Answer:remove .jpg context menu "rotate clockwise/counterclockwise" option

Those "Rotate..." items are put there by Windows Photo Viewer. If you only see them with jpg files, I guess you are using another image viewer that has taken the associations for everything but jpg? You might try to add jpg to that other photo viewer's associations.

Otherwise, a quick fix is to disable Windows Photo Viewer. Navigate to:
C:\Program Files\Windows Photo Viewer\PhotoViewer.dll

Take ownership and full control of PhotoViewer.dll
Rename to PhotoViewer.dll.bak

You might like an alternate image viewer - how about FastStone Image Viewer
download link here
I recommend using the portable version.
In the settings interface, associate all your image files with FastStone and everything will open with it, and no context menu "Rotate.."

P.S. I did look for a registry or a dll-hack fix, but it is not readily apparent - maybe buried in binary code somewhere ...

Hi

When I turn the display off, the touchscreen and digitizer are still enabled, so, if I touch the screen, the display comes back on. Any way to solve this?

Also, not sure if related, if I turn the screen off and leave it overnight, the battery drops by 25-30% in about 8 hours. Same thing happens when I leave the screen turned off for a short period of time, the battery just doesn't last. Not sure if its because the touchscreen and digitizer are still on.

P.S. Running on upgraded Windows 10 64bit.

Looking on Google have found info on something called 'Nokia phone suite', with info stating a 'dead flash' is required after installing new screen for it to work although I'm not sure how accurate this info is nor have I yet attempted it as every time I try and download the programe my anti virus and firewall go nuts!!! Hello all, apologies if this is a duplicate issue, but my searches did not turn anything up. I just received my new TPY a couple of days ago and have been happily installing software. Today was the first time I really tried using my digitizer pen, as I finally had time to open Photoshop and Illustrator. In doing so, however, I discovered pen calibration is completely messed up for the top edge of the screen. I tested it outside of the Adobe programs and the same problems occur there. I have already gone in and tried recalibrating my pen more than once using the calibration tools in the Control Panel. Is this a known issue that I just need a driver update for or is this a hardware issue? Any help is appreciated. Thanks,Erika

Does anyone know which combination of keystrokes will get it back to normal? I thought I had tried all of them..but must have missed one.

Usually if you right click on the desktop you'll find nvidia control panel, intel graphics properties, or graphics properties. Click on that and go to rotation and change it frm 90 degress to 0.

If not that, then ask some people that have more experience.

When I take pictures and text them to others, they are turned sideways or they are no longer oriented like I took them. Meaning I take a picture as "portrait" and it turns 90 degrees to "landscape". Is there a setting that is doing this? I am running 8.1.

Answer:Why are the pictures I take sent as turned at 90 degrees/sideways on my Lumia 929?

As a matter of design, it seems that Windows Phone's screen rotation isn't quite as snappy as iOS or Android. When you attempt to take a picture, make sure that all the camera buttons orient themselves to acknowledge that the phone is on it's side, or upright in portrait mode. If the buttons will not rotate, make sure that you don't have screen rotation locked. You can access this function from the Action Center by swiping down from the top of your screen. (If Screen Rotation isn't one of the quick buttons in your Action Center, go to all settings, and find screen rotation in the menu.
As far as the pictures you have already taken, you can quickly spin them to the correct orientation by finding the pic in Photos, tap the pencil button to edit, and choose Crop, rotate, auto-fix. You can use the rotate function to quickly spin the shot to the right orientation, and tap the save button.

When I use Thunderbird mail on my MacBook to send a picture (in "portrait" orientation) attaching it or inserting it into the text, Thunderbird turns the picture sideways 90 degrees to "landscape" mode.

The photo was taken with the camera turned 90degrees to take a Portrait orientated shot of a building. When the photo was placed on my desktop awaiting attaching to email, it was in the right orientation - but Thunderbird seemed to want it turned to Landscape so every email I sent with the photo added, showed the picture laying on its side making the recipient crane their neck to view it or turn their monitor 90degrees on its side!

I can't find any setting in Thunderbird or any reference to this odd behaviour in Thunderbird dedicated forums or in the settings of the mail client. The photo was 1024 x 768 and only about 150k file size. So this is a mystery. Could it be because I took the photo straight from my Canon Camera and dumped it on the desktop of my macbook? The Canon always presents the photo in the orientation in which it was taken without my having to rotate it myself.
--
Plado

Answer:Solved: Inserting picture into Thunderbird mail - gets turned 90 degrees!

Further investigation has shown that this seems to be caused by the Canon Camera which orientates the picture for viewing correctly whether taking portrait or landscape mode.
The photo that was placed on the macbook desktop was automatically turned the right way to view but the file itself remained in landscape orientation when filed.

So this seems not to be a fault with Thunderbird but entirely due to Canon doing funny things with pictures "second guessing" the end user in the way that such digital software often does.
That's the only explanation I can think of.
I took the same photo from the camera onto my PC and it appeared there on its side in Landscape mode so I turned it through 90 degrees using Paintshop and saved it - then attached it to email in thunderbird and it attached facing the right way up.
I never thought I'd have a problem like that to solve. Perhaps it's the way the Macbook deals with pictures. All very weird.
So consider this question closed and thank you if you were trying to answer it for me.

Hey all, I just unboxed my Helix yesterday (3689, I think), and the digitizer pen was in a separate box in the package (it wasn't in the body of the tablet).  Everything works well with the computer, but it doesn't recognize the digitizer pen.  If I take it out of the holder or put it in, there's no change.  The screen doesn't recognize the touch of the pen or anything.  I've updated all of the drivers that windows and Lenovo wants, but that didn't fix the issue.  Is there a specific driver that I can get from Wacom itself to fix this?  I had Lenovo's tech support try to fix it, but they wouldn't find a software fix.  They offered for me to send it in and for them to fix it, but I don't want to wait 2 weeks to get this back because I need it.Any advice? Thanks.

Hello! I have a ThinkPad X60 Tablet. When I bought it, it had Windows XP installed. Now I have Windows 7 on it. The eraser of my pen didn't work in any of them. Is there any need for some special drivers, instead of the drivers I get by installing Windows, and also by Windows and ThinkPad updates? Thank you!

On my X220T, my digitizer eraser works in OneNote, but not in any other Microsoft Office 2010 programs (Excel, Word, Powerpoint). The eraser works as if it is was the pen tip. All drivers are up-to-date, as far as Windows 7 update and  Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update. Any suggestions? Thanks ThinkPad community!

Answer:X220T - Digitizer eraser does not work in Microsoft Office

Erickreinertsen,

You are stating that the Erasor TIP works as if were also a pen? Double check that you have the eraser set to erase.  I believe there should be somthing along the lines of Pen and Input Devices settings to find the option to set the Eraser. You can also try checking: Start ? All Programs ? Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools ? Tablet Utility.

Hi, I recently did a clean install of Windows 8.1 on my X230T, and also installed Office 2013.I need to use the digitizer with OneNote 2013 heavily for taking lecture notes.  As I did when I was using Windows7, I set the side button on the digitizer to "eraser" and expect that it works properly. However, it is not the case.Yes I can write with the tip without any problem. Unfortunately, when I tried to press the button to switch the tip from the pen mode to the eraser mode, the behaviorof the digitizer becomes pretty strange. (1) If I remain the tip close to the screen, it would not switch to the eraser mode(2) if I move the tip a little higher and let the cursor disappear, then hold the button and move the tip back to the screen, I SOMETIMES get the eraser mode; but it doesn't switch back to the pen mode even if I release the button.I need to again move the tip far away from the screen and release the button to get the pen mode back. I downloaded the up-to-date driver from Wacom but it doesn't help. Also, I cannot find the driver for this functionality for Windows 8.1 on Lenovo website;the latest version of multitouch driver only supports Windows 7 and older versions of windows. Does anyone experience the same problem as I did?Can somebody help? Thanks a lot!

dell latitude d630/winXP how to rotate screen?

Answer:screen at 90 degrees rotated

Hello and Welcome!
There is usually an option in your video card software that will allow you to rotate the screen. Look for that.. You could have Intel, ATI, N-Vidia etc. You may need to open 'advanced options' to see it..

I work in a school. *say no more* One of our monitors now shows everything at a right angle to what it ought to be. I'm sure one of our "cherubs" thought they were being cute, but now the computer is unusable and I don't know how to undo the damage.

I tried fiddling with the controls on the monitor but could not fix it this way. The student who had been using the computer said it logged on normally, but that she hit some key putting her books down and it shifted the screen. I never heard of such a thing. Perhaps it was booby-trapped. (I did mention I work in a school didn't I?)

I loved the movie Sideways, but I don't like it for viewing material on the computer. Any help would be much appreciated. And people think being a librarian isn't a tech job.

I have a cracked screen on Yoga 2 13  and i am thinking to replace it. Since warranty is not working I contacted the service centre and they offered the replacment for the price of new laptop. So I said thanks either I will use as it is or find cheaper.  So please help me find the cheaper one which the most importantly fits to my one. I bought it in China (but not there anymore) and as I see the whole screen no. is 73048979. Also it issaid on paper  "13,3 FHD LED TS". I find part no. like B133HAT02.0   or LP133WF2 SP A1. But not the previous one. Can you help with finding the right one. It is frustrating a bit since I am not tech man. I am thinking sending back from here: http://www.365laptoprepair.com/Product/Lenovo-Yoga-2-13-Screen-Only or from ebay where I can find cheaper Chinese one. I lived in Pakistan and needed it within reasonable time. So, I just wanted to know if there is anyone here knows how to buy a digitizer for Natural Silver 13.3" pavillion x360 13 s194nr convertible laptop?

Answer:Where can I buy a touch screen digitizer for hp?

Hi, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I have gone through your issue of touchscreen digitizer has been broken. So there are Two option: 1.  If your product is under warranty then contact HP call center and asking for that hardware replacement in HP service center. So hp executive will help you as needed. Also you can call if it's out of warranty and want to fix it. 2. You can purchase online also , as few online sellers are selling that product and fix it on your own. I would recomend the option 1. Hope this will help. Thanks.  ****Click the White Kudos star to say thanks********Please mark Accept As Solution if it solves your problem****

I also just so happen to have let the graphics card update it's driver's last night. I'm not sure if the problem stems from that or if I have a hardware issue. Does anyone have any advise?

You could try <ctrl>-<alt>-<arrow key> to rotate the screen. (It is supposed to work, but doesn't on my PC, and is only temporary.) Alternatively, right-click on the Desktop, select "Screen resolution", and change "Orientation" to "Portrait"; this is permanent.

The correct key combination to use depends on your exact type of integrated video or video card. You could try pressing Ctrl - Alt and the up arrow key at the same time and toggle the keys again. Another possibility is to press Ctrl - Shift and R at the same time and toggle the keys again. In my case I can right click on the desktop and choose NVIDIA Control Panel. Rotate display options are then available.

Hi guys, So I took my laptop out of my bag about a week ago and found this:http://imgur.com/HIRHJ(I took the photo today, I've been too busy to deal with the issue for the past week but I've played around with it now.) As you can see on the screen, there is a large crack across the top right (which I have no clue where it came from, considering I had nothing in my bag but the laptop and my bag was never impacted in any way). Most importantly, however, no image is displayed, which renders my laptop unusable as a laptop (and I desperately need it for uni, fortunately this past week was a break but now I am without a laptop to take notes in...) Plugging in the laptop to an external monitor works fine as expected, however, so does the digitizer pen. i.e. if I wave my pen above the broken screen, it appears to work perfectly on the duplicated external monitor, clicking and all. So, my guess is that all I need to do is replace the screen, right? According to the manual, http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/0a60175_04.pdf (where mine is 4294-CTO), the LCD panel I want is 04W1545. I've found one for $175 which is great, but when I asked if the place could also replace the screen for me, they said it would no longer be a tablet. They said they "think I might need to get the full screen + digitizer for $650 + installation" which is utterly ridiculous, considering that's nearly the price I paid for the laptop. What I wa... Read more

Answer:Screen replacement - digitizer support

replacing the Tablet LCD is a very expensive exercise, since there is also a digitizer layer involved. Try calling Lenovo warranty service, and ask about aftermarket parts sale, and specifically request the parts . But it won't be cheap, around the price that you have been quoted for the full repair. If you are worried about cost, then you should probably sell your current laptop for parts or as it is. And then get another X220t.

Aftermarket parts for the X220t screen assembly isn't widely available, so this drives up the price of available parts. From the picture, you got the X220i Tablet, which is not sold in Australia.

1) Would it be possible for a 12.1" wxga (1280x800) screen to work correctly in it? Does HP use a generic monitor plug-in for all their laptops that would allow the screen to plug in?

2) If the resolution was higher would that require a new digitizer?

Answer:Screen on Satellite A200 has rotated 90 degrees

Hi there,

it seems you have an ATI graphics card installed in your machine. The rotation is feature from your graphics card and can be reversed by going into "display properties" and changing the angle of the picture.

Just go into the display properties and then in the catalyst center. There is a option to modify the rotation settings.

If you cannot find it and need some help just ask :)

Hello Summary:I bought a 20CD0001IV about two months ago (Demopool). I need it for work and drawing, but so far I have numerous issues. And right now I'm kinda lost: What should I do? Send a support question to lenovo/IBM EC? Contact my retailer? Are these common problems? I'm also not sure about my warranty. The Lenovo Solution Center says, I still have warranty. The different parts of the website say different things. I'll assume worst case: My warranty is likely expired. I tried:Fresh Installation Windows 8.1, newest drivers, newest Wacom drivers. Tried different settings. Calibration, Pressure Curves, all the stuff. Have 3 different Pens. Searched google, searches this forum... Problems:Massive Ghosting, I know, there is a solution on the forum. It says to replace the old screen with a newer model, but is this possible if the warranty is expired?Calibration is a mess! The digitizer point wobbles under the pen, this is most obvious near the screen border, where straight lines turn into curves. But it's also an issue in the middle of the screen. In some places the cursor is 2mm top left of the actual pen tip, in other places it's bottom right UNDER the pen. I tried all kinds of calibration already... I know about a "dead spot" issue, but this was fixed with a firmware update and my issue is all over the place, not just one spot. The screen is not very solid. Even medium pressure with the pen leads to dark and light display glitches near the tip. Pen press... Read more

Answer:TP Yoga numerous issues with screen and digitizer

I did some more testing with the maximum pressure issue. And it might be related to the pressure level of pens. As far as I know the Yoga supports 1024 levels. I have a new Wacom PL-900 and it has only 512, and the pressure problem is strongest. It is the same with the original Yoga pen, I'd say - even though this should have 1024 levels? But with an old Samsung Series 7 pen I need to press harder to reach 100% pressure - although it is still not really "hard". I'm not entirely sure how many pressure levels the Samsung Slate pen has, thought it was 510, but have seen some reviews mentioning 1024...Anyway, I posted this issue in the wacom forums.

Did the earlier models of the thinkpad yogas sold on lenovo.com all come with the wacom digitizers? I've read that all models of the thinkpad yoga sold on lenovo.com came with the wacom digitizer. I ordered a thinkpad yoga off lenovo.com with the 1366x768 screen on Feb 23 and I haven't received it yet. I could've swore that when I chose the screen resolution their was none that specified it came with the pen and wacom digitizer, but now I'm second guessing myself. Now I see that it only comes with the 1920x1080 FHD screen and it that option specifies it has the pen and wacom digitizer. So I'm just wondering if the earlier models from lenovo.com came with the wacom digitizer and they just recently switched it to only available on the 1920x1080. The part # for my computer is listed as 20CDCT01WW.

You need a special stylus for a capacitive touchscreen. Search for "iphone pen" or some-such.

I need to replace my touch screen glass as it is broken. Mine is 2C version of it. There are people selling universal versions of touch digitizer online saying its compatible and original with Microsoft name on the top of it. I want to know how many versions of it are there in the market and which one is MS genuine product. or Are universal one's compatible and works fine with my device ? Also where can i buy a genuine MS Touch screen digitizer for Lumia 535 online india ?

Answer:Touch screen digitizer Microsoft Lumia 535

Be wary on line. You get what you pay for. A lot of them, even if they say Microsoft on them, aren't OEM, just Chinese knock offs. Also when replacing digitizer on the 535 you can't just change it and it works. It didn't for me and I had to 'dead' flash it. A Microsoft service centre can replace it, but, for the cost if replacement, why not plump for something like the 550? At least you will then have 4G LTE device and a more up to date chipset, or the great 640, or even a Blu Win HD LTE?

I inadvertently slid my hand sideways, swiping across the bottom row of the keyboard, which turned the mousepad on, and apparently hit some of the function keys, causing the entire display screen to rotate 90 degrees, so that the top of the screen is up against the left side of the monitor. the whole display screen, background and all. Can anyone tell me how to rotate it back? Thanks. Hp pavilion dv6 notebook PC, windows 7.

I uses a portege m200, when I want to use a projector in tablet mode instead of notebook mode, The projection view rotate 90 degrees.
How can I rotate the projection view straigt up

Answer:Projection tablet screen rotates about 90 degrees on M200

Hi Ruud

I have tried it once with external monitor and it works but don?t ask me how. I don?t remember any more. Try all screen orientation options.

Try also to rotate the screen before you change the display output mode.

This just started happening recently, but when I open my laptop past about 90 degrees, the screen darkens to the point where it's almost pitch black. I thought that the wires connecting the screen were broken, but when I started to close it, the screen returned back to normal. I can still see a bit when it's past 90 degrees, but only when I lean in really close and look at it from an angle.

Is there anyway to fix this? Um, it started happening when I once opened it up from sleeping. Is the wire getting crushed or something? If it helps, my laptop has windows vista and is a toshiba satellite M300 according to the label I just read. Any help greatly appreciated

Answer:Screen darkens when laptop is opened past 90 degrees?

Hi and welcome to TSG.

I am not 100% certain but it sounds like the backlight / inverter is playing up, this could be due to a dodgy connection.

In most laptops that inverter board can be replaced fairly easily, you could probably do it yourself. However, I am not sure if that is the case with the backlight aswell.

How old is the laptop, is it still under warranty at all?
