I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: x200 tablet, under windows 7, no touch/pen/internal camera

I used the pen/touch Windows 7 driver from this page: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/WIN7-BETA.html and it seems to work just fine, other than my own confusion over what sort of multitouch I had. I don't have an internal camera; my x200 is a 7448. -- Chris

Hi, Just bought a X200 Tablet, 7448CTO. It had Vista, have done a clean install of Windows 7. Managed to get everything working except Tablet Pen and Touch. Have tried to install the driver from http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/options/7wgf07ww.zip and it says: "No penabled hardware detected on this system" What silly mistake am I making. Thanks, Phil Hewitt

I am trying to work on OBD2 bluetooth car dongles and, because of traditional Windows difficulties with phantom serial port retention, I needed to find a machine with little in the way of features that could confuse me by having many serial ports already in use. I also wanted to use Windows 10 to look at its enhanced features eg bluetooth in Microsoft Message Analyser. My old X200T looked ideal. It worked perfectly in W7 and provided pen and single touch, thus being ideal for working in the front seat of a vehicle. The update to W10 went well, and the pen works fine, but single touch does nothing. At one stage in thrashing about with drivers, I had it working on the touch calibration on-screen "targets", but it did nothing when I touched the on-screen touch pads. Even that has now stopped working. I think the problem may be related to the fact that Microsoft is telling me that it has Pen and Touch support with 2 Touch points. If I uninstall everything related to Wacom and reboot, Pen disappears, but Touch with 2 touch points always comes back. Has anyone else seen this and found a workaround?

Dear Lenovo support staff  / community, I just purchased a brand-new X200 and the pen / touch / tablet feature works out-of-the-box with its pre-installed Windows Vista 64-bit OS.  Because the applications I intend to use the Tablet with do not support Vista 64-bit (namely, Dragon Systems), I used the Windows XP Tablet Edition SP-2 Product Recovery Disc kit that came with the Lenovo tablet, and followed the conversion instructions included in the booklet down to the letter. However, when it converted the OS to Windows XP, the pen / touch functionality is completely gone, and I am unable to find any help online, or in Lenovo product support when called in. Installing the Multitouch drivers on the Lenovo support site for X200 drivers does not work, and installing the WACOM drivers does nothing either. I can confirm this is most likely a 100% repro case, as I have two brand new X200 Tablets and the same behavior is exhibited on both. Please advise.

Hi all, I got a new X200 Tablet off ebay - was sold as new, still has that new Lenovo laptop smell and it was sealed, almost Anyway.... Im hoping im doing something very obvious wrong, so feel free to laugh and call me a noob Came preinstalled with Windows 7 Pro with all the lenovo bells and whistles. Span the screen around and i couldnt use the pen or the touchpad. Ran through the calibration tool, same thing. So, i ripped the drive out replaced it with a new one. Ran up a new install of Windows 7 Ultimate. Downloaded all the drivers, ran them. No dice. Reinstalled, restarted twice (per the forum posts i managed to dig up). Tried another driver. No change Downloaded the Lenovo automatic install for drivers, ran them all, installed all the lenovo bells and whistles. No dice. The main system info details screen shows that the Pen and Touch: Pen and Touch available with 2 touch points and the service is started Machine type is: 7448-CTO So, im out of ideas. Does anyone have any ideas of what im doing wrong!? Thanks in advance guys

My X200 tablet has an integrated web camera.  The web camera has worked great until yesterday.  I upgraded to the latest version of Skype and the camera now wont function.  I have since restored to Friday when the camera was working and Skype was functional.  This has brought me back to the earlier version of Skype which worked great before.  But no luck, the web camera is still not functioning.  I have also reinstalled the drivers from the SWTOOLS folder again with no luck.  The camera is also not functioning in Roxio - it seems to start up but the screen is black and no lights are showing on the integrated web camera which makes me wonder if the camera is even working? Any suggestions ... Has my web camera died or is there another issue I can fix? Thanks for the help

I want to add an internal bluetooth card to an X200 tablet model 7450.  After talking to someone in the Lenovo parts dept they gave me two part numbers that should work 44C9696 and 60Y3213.  I ordered one 60Y3213 installed the card, and it's not working. I'm thinking that only 44C9696 works with my model. The hardware maintenance manual lists 44C9696 for use with the 7450 and 60Y3213 for use with different models. This site seems to say the same thinghttp://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_Bluetooth_with_Enhanced_Data_Rate_%28BDC-2.1%29The card I ordered did not come with a cable either.  Though I am able to plug it in directly to the system board and fit the palm rest on. Can this tablet that did not come with a bluetooth card support bluetooth? Two things worry me:I don't see bluetooth listed in the device I/O section of the BIOSI don't see a bluetooth light on the display. So my question is; did I simply get the wrong part or does this model not support bluetooth at all?

Answer:X200 tablet: Purchased internal Bluetooth card and it is not working?

Bluetooth can be added like you did.  Did you install the driver for it?  Fn + F5 should bring up your WLAN and Bluetooth if you have the hotkeys installed and you turn it on and off from there.

And it doesn't take a cable, it plugs right into the board like you did.

ello,I bought the latest and greatest X200 tablet, with a Multi Touch screen and all the trimmings, I was excited to change from a long family of T thinkpads (owned T20, T30, T40,T42, T61) and change to the long-awaited tablet. I prefer to write in bullets to cut to the chase: -paid for the computer the last days of October2008-computer delivered ONE MONTH LATER November 20th, already devaluated-in May 09, a problem started: every time you turned on the computer, the cursor moved on it's own erratically all over the screen, clicking on everything here and there on its own for a few seconds until Windows would "stop the process"-I had purchased On-Site service, but when I called, Lenovo argued vehemently that I had not purchased it and demanded I send the machine to fix on the box they sent.-They sent the machine back a week later WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. The wire they claim to have changed did not fix it.-I found my original invoice and noticed I HAD purchased On-Site service-I called support; they apologized and said a service person would come "next week"-That week passed and nobody came. I called again, disappointed.-A guy called Jamie xxxxxx promised I would be up and running really soon. He apologized again. This time someone would definitely come ?next week?-Next week someone came, with 3 boxes. He took my computer apart, breaking the hinge in the process, and then noticed none of the 3 boxes had a correct part. Another apology, still have a broken computer.... Read more

Hi,. the particular model of my x200 is 7453-FJ9. I bought it from ebay and the seller claimed is was multi-touch. After checking on the Levono support page where you identify the machine features through the model # above, it does not mention anything about being touch capable let alone multitouch. However, since I installed a new copy of windows 7 pro 64-bit on a new hdd, after installing all of the automated lenovo and windows updates, I checked the system properties and it states 'Pen and Single Touch Input Available' as shown in my system properties screen below.

Link to picture

I have tried to use the single touch input but it does not seem to be working. I have tried calibrating touch input though the screen calibration and it has not worked. I have looked at the HCI devices in the device manager and it shows 'Wacom Penabled MiniDriver','Bluetooth Remote Control', 'HID Compliant Consumer Control Device' and several repeated entries of 'HID-compliant device' but nothing about touch input !

I don't understand what is going on, do you think this tablet has touch input available ? Should I try install the touch driver on the lenovo website ? the wacom website ? or am i just wasting my time thinking it has touch input since it is not mentioned on the 7453-FJ9 lenovo support page (that I can see). Any advice on this would be kindly appreciated..

Just received 2 x200 tablets on Friday and have been working with one of them to make sure everything works smooth on it. My concerns are as follow:1. No touch input during a screen saver.2. No pen precision on Adobe Photoshop CS43. Trouble with Wacom Tablet drivers, do not accept touch (only pen works). Is there anything we can do to resolve the issues above? Model: 7449-49U

Answer:Lenovo X200 Tablet - Touch/Pen Input Realiability Issues

For the above issues, I am seriously considering returning this unit and purchasing another brand. There's no fix published in any of the sites that should have them, Lenovo or Wacom or Adobe. None of them will take responsibility for this. My main frustration is with Adobe, because they refuse to support the Windows Ink standard, forcing us to find workarounds or old drivers so that we can do the work we need to do. They're taking advantage of their near-monopoly to force users to comply with their demands. I suspect they're receiving a substantial kickback from Wacom for this. Which is why I chose a Wacom Penabled tablet in the first place. If this is not working, then I just don't know what to do. Seriously, someone needs to fix this right now!

Hello all, I just purchased a Lenovo X200 Tablet with enhanced multitouch on the 13th of November when they were having the nice employee sale. I customized the X200 enhanced multitouch package and added a whole bunch of features. I got the camera, turbo memory, 4 gigs of ram, fingerprint reader and the works. The only problem is I don't have any touch features (with my hand) at all. It only detects the digitizer pen. I thought maybe they forgot to install the drivers or something so I tried installing the touch drivers from the Lenovo website (my product number is apparently 7448CTO which is not freaking multitouch from reading on the forums). When I try to enable the Touch features it tells me that it did not detect any touchscreen moreover the tablet did not even come with the simpleTap software which had me really puzzled. Why did Lenovo do this to me?? I need it for university and it took really long to come. I really need those touch features not just the pen. Thanks Cal

Answer:TouchPanel Problem, X200 Tablet with enchanced multitouch - NO TOUCH FEATURES AT ALL

Colferns,I've had a x200 tablet multi-touch for a few months.  Just upgraded to win 7 and having problems getting the multitouch to work.  I wonder if the drivers are not working.  BTW, 7448cto refers to the 7448 model, "Configured To Order" - I know, not very helpful. It is strange, since in XP it worked okay (but not great).  I now look at my Control Panel | System and Security | System Setting and I see half way down the window a category called "Pen and  Touch:". I am dismayed to see "Pen and Single Touch Input Available". I hope some one replies soon with the right drivers.

I just purchased a refurbished x200 Tablet (7450-8HU), and I'm loving it. Upgraded RAM, installed a 120GB SSD, and upgraded it to Windows 8.1 - it's an amazing little machine. Windows 8.1 makes it run like a beast! But, I do have a question. I've been doing much research, and I do realize that my screen is not capable of 2-finger touch. Yet, I keep reading that the x200 Tablet supports Pen & 1-finger touch. But, my x200 Tablet refuses to recognize my finger, even though in PC Info it says it supports "Pen and Single Touch", and it even let's me calibrate "Touch" (but it won't recognize my finger). Were there early models of the x200 Tablet that only support Pen, even though the computer says it supports single Touch also? Or is there something wrong with my machine? I've installed all required drivers, and Device Manager says there is nothing missing. Thanks!

You can try checking the Lenovo Lookup parts:click me You need to use your machine type 7450-8HU and your serial number (don't post it here). You'll see then a the list of components, you can try checking there if you find a hint about the multitouch. I read in the german wiki that multitouch was offered after September 2009, you will find the production date next to your machine type (in the form of YY/MM). That maybe also a hint if you have ir or not. As last resort you could use a program like HW Info o SIW to read the components of your X200T. My 2 cents...

Hey Zebra, I recently had an rtfm moment with this issue.  I had installed and reinstalled the Tablet Button Drivers... or so I thought.   Checkout the readme for the driver.  After you double click the .exe, it looks as if it installs, but all that does is extract the files to a folder on the HD.   Probably here C:\DRIVERS\WIN\TBBTN unless you changed it.  Go there and click setup.exe.... you'll have to reboot when it is done.  HTH

Recieved my brand new loaded x200 tablet last month and since then I've been having issues with sleeping. For whatever reason, only some of the time, when I try to put the tablet into sleep, it simply won't. The status lights will remain as they were, the screen will go black, and nothing will remove it from this state. The only option is to pull the battery or hold the power switch till it powers off completely. I updated to the newest intel 4500 drivers (newer than lenovo's page) for graphics, and double checked that every other driver was current. I also saw mention of intel virtualization stuff causing issues, but changes haven't fixed it. I'm having a hard time diagnosing it as it doesn't even seem to appear in the windows system logs. Specs are: X200 Tablet with Win 7 enhanced experience, multi finger multi touch display, L9400 with 4GB ram, webcam, fingerprint, 5inone card reader with modem, 5400 rpm 160gb hdd, not anywhere near the ultrabase when this happens.

I have precisely the same problem. It happens randomly when I try to sleep or hibernate the tablet. Happens when either docked to the ultrabase or not. Very frustrating that I can't trust the laptop to sleep when I need it to.

The touch device on our x200 tablets has always been called Wacom Serial Pen Tablet.  Works fine in XP.  I'm trying to get one working with Windows 7 now.  The "multitouch" driver from Lenovo doesn't work (I don't think these tablets are multitouch anyways) and the driver straight from Wacom results in a BSOD.  The "Wacom Serial Pen Tablet" driver apparently comes with Windows 7, because it's there if I manually choose a driver.  I once got it to work forcing it to use that driver, but now after reinstalling again it just says the device cannot start.  Any ideas?

Answer:Windows XP tablet edytion and problem with driver X200

Hi Wogabun and welcome to the community,

Download and install TVSU and run it and see what it comes up with.  You'll need MS Net Framework 1.1 or 2.0 at least for it to run.

Hello to all.I have a problem with my X200 tablet  P/N 7449-FWG which after upgraded to windows 7 does not detect the following devices:- Mobile Broadband- Wireless USB- Intel WI Max- GPS receiverAll the above where installed and functioning when the machine shipped to me last August running Vista Pro 64-bit There is another change symptom. When it worked under Vista, the machine remembered the state of wireless devices after hibernation/reboot. Now, under  Windows 7 the machine boots with bluetooth always off, and i must go to FN-F5 to activate it. All the rest seem to work perfectly.Any help would be appreciated, because i tried anything i could think of to resolve the problem. Regards  -

Answer:X200 Tablet wireless problems after upgrading to windows 7

Depending on the upgrade procedure, Windows downloads and installs some, but not all of the drivers needed for Thinkpads. The remaining drivers can be obtained from Lenovo's website for X200 Tablets at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70476 or more simply using Thinkvantage System Update (TVSU) that can be downloaded at  http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/TVSU-UPDATE.html. After installing, run TVSU and choose the drivers and programs needed. Note - Lenovo's Win7 upgrade kit includes a separate disk for installing Thinkvantage System Update and other Thinkpad drivers and utilities.

Dear community, I found my screen starts flickering not long after I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 on my thinkpad x200 tablet. It happens especially when I have an external monitor connected to the laptop and when I maximize a Microsoft Edge brower on screen. Scrolling the mouse will trigger the lines on a page flickering back and forth or partially disappeared. This is really annoying when I want to scroll down a little bit to find some useful information. I have tried to use the "sfc /scannow" command to identify potential problems and to reinstall compatible Thinkpad graphics and video drivers, but no luck. I have also tried other solutions that I can find online (like disabling the issue reporting service), yet still this problem persists. I contacted Microsoft for their assistance, and they suggest me to ask the manufacture to solve this problem. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks,Qi

Here is a quick soultion to this screen problem in windows 10  1. Type ?msconfig? in run box and open it 2. Click on the ?Services? tab. 3 Scroll down and find two services named ?Problem Reports and Solution Control Panel ?and ?Windows Error Reporting Service?. If you have difficulty finding these two services then you click on ?Service? column header in the table. This will alphabetically arrange all the services. 4. Uncheck these two services. I have an X200 tablet running Windows 7. If a USB device is plugged in (mouse, drive etc) and the notebook enters sleep mode after some time (as defined in the  power plan), an attempt to awaken it results in a notebook hang. The notebook appears to wake up but the login screen is never displayed. The screen remains blank. The power plan has the "USB selective suspend setting" disabled but the same issue occurs even when this setting is enabled. I have deleted the USB drivers and reinstalled them. All MS and Thinkpad drivers and updates are current. Has anyone else encountered the same issue? Greatly appreciate any feedback on remediation methods. Thanks.

Hello...hopefully someone can help & point me in the right direction...I have a Lenovo x200 tablet PC (Stylus Only Version) - and recently installed Windows 7 Professional (64bit) The OS install went perfectly...Once installed, I did all the Systems Updates for Windows 7, including all the updates for Lenovo using System Update 4.01.....However, I have an issue that I cannot seem to figure out... PROBLEM # 1The biggest issue I now face is, whenever I put the Digitized Pen next to the Tablet Screen within 2 seconds I get the 'Blue Screen of Death'....and it automatically Reboots....This ONLY happens when I touch the Pen to the screen.... I uninstalled the 'Wacom Drivers' - within the Device Manager, which i assume were installed by the system update(s)....After, uninstalling the issue of the 'Blue Screen' from happening when the pen touches the screen is gone.....However, I have no way of being able to use the Pen...it does not show any cursor or inking....Is there a specific DRIVER that I should be installing on my own to make this work properly - without getting the 'Blue Screen of Death' each time?....I really need some guidance on this issue.  PROBLEM # 2My Second issue, which is suddenly occured after day 2 of installing updates is the Lenovo System Update 4.01 -- Suddenly, after working on day 1 - now, whenever i try to 'Check New Updates' i get a popup that says "An error was detected with the Package catalog for your system on the System Up... Hi, harddisk usage problems on backup and restore as this is so important after a new OS has been upgraded. The case:1. Re-installed a clean Vista to the X-200 Tablet before upgrading the PC to Windows 7, hoping that the new Windows-7 would be clean & more robust rather than working with a lot of old Vista applications and files. 2.  Installed Office Enterprise for testing basic keys and button functions with Windows 7. 3. Went to Control panel and clicked "Backup and Restore" to do a manual backup just in case the system crashes as we have to separately install a lot of drivers (good luck)  to the machine under the new Windows 7 (this is a problem prone operation) to make the control and buttons work again. 4.  There are three drive partitions in all after the upgrade (the harddisk has a virgin 300GB total space) :-         (a)  SW_Preload C: used - 56.4GB (only Windows 7 and Microsoft Office Enterprise installed)                                          free - 220GB                                &n... So I upgraded to Windows 10, everything works out, but I noticed from Matlab that the OpenGL support is only on the version of 1.1. I further pocked around , and found the graphics accelerator driver is from Microsoft and has some known issues (from Matlab). Then I downloaded the Intel Driver Update Utility to update the graphics driver, but nothing can be found there. Back to Windows 7, the Intel Driver works fine for me and gave OpenGL ~2.2 support. Does anyone knows better drivers in Windows 10 than the default Microsoft one? Thanks in advance.

Hello, i have a 10.1 inch nextbook windows tablet running on windows 8.1. My camera is working fine and in device manager it shows as "Intel(R) Imaging Signal Processor 2400". In properties it says:
Driver date: 8/1/2014
Driver version: 19.50.53.344

But when i upgrade to windows 10, camera stops working.....can anyone help me out?

Thanks.

Answer:NEXTBOOK windows tablet camera

Hi there lakshi, and welcome to Ten Forums!

Could you tell us the model of the nextbook?
It seems to be preinstalled with Windows 8.1 and may only have a driver compatible with that Operating System.

However you could try uninstalling the driver from device manager and update it through windows update (make sure to restart your computer first). The mostly likely scenario is the driver is still being developed for WIndows 10, so I will see if I can find a version that will work.

The Camera worked fine on my tablet which was earlier on Windows 8.1. But, after updating to Windows 10 Home, it gives me an error - Make sure your camera is connected and not being used by another app. I tried the following :-
1. Updated the app.
2. Turned Windows Firewall off.
3. Tried disabling and enabling the Camera - OV2680.

I need help in getting it to work. I dont have the option to revert to Windows 8.1.

Answer:Camera not working after upgrading to Windows 10 [Tablet]

Can you check for latest camera driver on manufacturer's site? Then install it and see if it works. Uninstall the application/driver, restart and then try to install latest one again. If Windows keep ignoring the driver and installing their own not working again, then you may have to manually force/install the latest driver from Device Manager. Click on the search button and type Device. Then click to open Device Manager. Expand the Imaging Devices and right-click (hold-tap) on the camera. Select Update driver and select last option. Select last option again and you should see a Have disk button. Click on that and browse to the folder where you extracted the camera driver. Install it and try to see if it is working. You may have to restart first. Then hide the driver update so it won't install again.

My X220 tablet comes with pen and limited touch support with 2 touch points. I have no issues on windows 7 but on windows 8.1 it has changed to be working with only 1 touch point since some time that I don't remember exactly when. So that I can work with one finger only and 2-finger functions such as pinch to zoom are unavailable. My drivers are all uptodate. I think I should completely uninstall the related driver before reinstalling but don't know how to procede and couldn't find the solution. I tried uninstalling all HIDs through Device manager and one-by-one, specifically wacom device. when I uninstall it, I lose touch option completely. but reinstalling through Device Manager sounds like recovering exactly the previous faulty condition. Maybe there is a conflict with windows 8.1 like Microsoft Input Configuration Device which might be unlikely.  So is there any other way to have full wipe and clean reinstall of those touch screen drivers? I appreciate it if you put links to the drivers for me, if they are not available on Lenovo Support. Tell me if you had the same touch issue in Windows 8.1  and how you solved it. Thanks

I am new to tablets and have seen people handwrite notes on an ipad and the ipad changes their writing into type and either stores it as a note or uses it to fill in blanks in a form. How do I do this with a Windows 10 based touch screen. I am using a Dell Inspiron 2-in-1 in tablet mode.

Just tried Word and Notepad, you bring up the on screen keyboard and then click on the picture of a keyboard on the bottom right, where you choose what type of keyboard you want and choose the text input one, and scratch away. I admit I use a Surface Pro 3 with a pen.
OneNote will also work this way but may have other ways to do it.

When I fold my Yoga 11s (Haswell) into tablet mode in Windows 10, the touch pad is not disabled and my fingers and legs can cause the mouse to activate and move around when I want to just be using the touch screen.  Am I missing something, or does the touchpad driver for the Yoga 11s (Haswell) not properly support Windows 10 when you fold the Yoga into a tablet?

Answer:Yoga 11s (Haswell) touch pad not disabled when in tablet mode in Windows 10

I had the same problem although mine included not automatically switching to tablet mode when folding the screen back. Ultimately I learned that I needed to download the Lenovo Transition driver. I don't have the link but if you search it you'll find it. That will clear everything up.  A file is installed called ymc.exe, which stands for yoga mode control. Check your task manager to see if you have it.

Answer:Windows 8 tablet touch keyboard DISAPPEARED from login screen!

I don't know if this will help you but it solved a similar problem I had on my Windows 8 touch PC:
If you are able to reach the Start/app tile screen or desktop and from there "view local services" which you can find by typing "services" in the Start screen scroll down the list until you come to the "Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service" which
should say "Automatic (triggered)" and "Running"
From there "right-click" that service (or otherwise get into its properties), click the "Log On" Tab, click the first option under "Log on as:" (circle button "Local System account") and make sure to Check box "Allow service to interact with desktop"
For me this box somehow became unchecked when I "Refreshed" my windows 8 to solve another issue. Once I checked the box, the keyboard started to reappear at the login screen.

It sounds like the notebook is low in power, either the battery has no charge or is not holding charge (old/defective). If it's plugged in  AC outlet already, then possibly computer hardware issue. Please refer to page 23 in the "Service and Troubleshooting Guide". You might need to have your unit serviced.

I am considering buying a Thinkpad Tablet. Of the available models the ones that come with a 2.13GHz processor are the two X200 models (NRS93GE and NRT9RGE). As far as I can see, as opposed to the X61 models, the thinkpad X200 tablet models do *not* come with a "digitizer pen".  Can one still use them to take notes? How does one write on them?

Answer:Pen for X200 tablet?

what is a tablet without the digitizer pen... the X200 tablet do have a digitizer pen.  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170342459868 i think there is a picture of the x200 digitizer pen in the link provided.

I've got an x200 tablet that doesn't do so well as a tablet.I've gotten everything from the dreaded blue screen when the pen is touched to it,  to it being totally unresponsive to pen input. Everything but the tablet issue seems to work fine. Hasn't been dropped, smashed or had any liquids poured on it. Also has (had?) an obnoxious amount of antivirus/spyware/ect. software.Downloaded every driver, went back to several restore points and even took it all the way back to its out of the box state with recovery disks.Took it into the tech/repair center at my university. They had it for three weeks and didn't know what to do with it either...It's still under warranty, but even if it's not somehow covered I'd much rather pay repair costs than buy a new computer. So what the heck do I do with it now? Send it back to the company? (Really resisting the urge to set it on fire.)

Answer:x200 not being much of a tablet

Which O/S are you running?   I have an X200T (7448-CTO) and, after about 1.5 years under Vista, it started to develop severe flakiness (e.g. frequent IE and Office app crashes) although the tablet functionality was still working OK.  I finally decided to bite the bullet and  install Windows 7 fresh (not an upgrade over Vista).  The process that Win7 uses is interesting in that it places the previous (Vista) Windows directory in something called Windows.old.   It does not reformat the drive nor does it delete any other directories on C:/.  That process worked great for me (NB was/is virus free) although, in your case, I wonder if it wouldn't be smarter to relocate all of your documents and settings (e.g. favorites, contacts) to another storage medium and, quite literally, reformat the entire hard drive before installing a new O/S.  After Win7 has completed, install the Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox and it will perform all of the driver upgrades which, in my case, went near flawlessly.   All of my peripheral worked right away including the tablet functionality.  I did have to recalibrate the pen/tablet and work through the handwriting recognition training, but those tasks are only tedious, not difficult.  The only small issue I had, initially, was a SmartAudio driver error which, somehow, fixed itself.    I know that some people have reported issues with Win7/Thinkpad compatibility, but I can only report a comp... I'm looking to buy an X200 tablet for school this fall, but I'm curious about the Trusted Platform Module (TPM).  I'm not a big fan of having TPM on my personal use equipment, thought I do see the advantages in a managed IT infrastructure.  According to the maintenance manual there are motherboards available both with and without the "security chip"/TPM feature, but purchasing one separately is a joke (US$1,400 or more) considering the cost of the base unit itself.  When customizing a unit on the Lenovo store there is no option for purchasing without a TPM.  The tacover.pmd document lists the TPM as being integrated into the ICH9M chip, which is the reason for needing a whole separate motherboard to get a unit without a TPM. Long story short, is it possible to have Lenovo build me a unit with a non-TPM motherboard? Thanks in advance.

Answer:X200 tablet available without TPM?

you can switch off the feature in the BIOS, it would probably cost the same regardless.... but unless you have a large order of some sort, these sort of things are not negotiable on a single build basis.

Hi:I'm looking at purchasing the X200 tablet. I'm looking at the SL9600 offering as well as some of the other whistles and bells. What I am curious about is if there is any intention to replace the VGA port with a digital video interface such as HDMI as well as if there are any plans for a touch pad mouse. I'd hate to buy now just to have the VGA port replaced with HDMI next month. Also, I keep coming across all the different model numbers. Is there any good reference as far as the model numbers. I saw a posting here from last year with similar questions as mine and thought to get it updated.Any advisement on planned upgrades to the X200 in the near term by Lenovo would be appreciated and help me determine when to pull the trigger. Thanks

Just received an old 4GB X200 tablet with Windows 10 Pro via eBay to use for browsing.   I've found it quite fast and love the keyboard.  Old tech, but better than a lot of newer equipment.  And at $79 delivered, no way to lose, and it is very similar to my favorite T420. As it uses a 2.5" HDD, i am thinking about switching to an SSD (as I have with my T420).  I understand that the X200 uses Sata 2 and was wondering how others have found performance when doing this with an X200. I've found no problems with drivers so far, but are there more desirable ones than the Microsoft ones in Windows 10 for graphics, etc.?

I'm in the market for a new notebook, and I've really become enamored with the X200 tablet. Well, actually it was the X301 that first caught my eye, but it's just not fully-featured enough for me. Too bad, as I really liked the weight and the WXGA+ on a 13.3" display. Anyway, I'm a Windows applications developer, and I'm trying to determine the X200 tablet's suitability for my needs. As a programmer, I can always make use of additional display resolution, but I've simulated some WXGA screenshots on a 12.1" display, and I'm thinking it could work for me. I'd appreciate it if others could chime in here with what they use their own X200 tablet for on a regular basis and how well it performs and displays those tasks. Thanks.

Answer:What do you use your X200 tablet for?

Hi Rich, I use my X200 Tablet for everything and cannot say enough good things about it. I wear many hats right now Director of IT, Student, and believe or not I take it to church. I take my tablet everywhere! Currently I'm taken a Marketing class and DB design class and use it for notes and for MS Access running on windows 7 BETA. I have owned the all the X series tablets since the x41 which still run. Some of the problems I run into with DB design is the smaller screen but really it is not a huge factor because I'm in class when I'm at work I use the dock with 24" widescreen. I take my tablet to meetings, give presentations, and use it in place on my desktop. The only thing I would caution against is the process power for your type of development. For example it does not encode video as fast as a desktop but it can do it better than other notebooks in it's class. If you need speed and screen size try the W700 series with WACOM digitizer pad.  What I like most about the X series tablets is it's lightweight portability, performance, wireless options, and durability. I have download 50 eBooks, several text books, and read the electronic versions of eweek and love the annotate on them. If fact my wife makes fun me when I take it to the bathroom for reading materials. I can say that the tablet has changed the way I function in daily life. My wife is a Direct of IT as well and I finally got her to use a tablet with the same results.  The la... Read more

Question: X200 Tablet

I got a X200 Tablet Thinkpad through my old school because it was part of the requirements. And i want to reformat my thinkpad but when i bought the thinkpad, i got no OS disk with it. How can i reformat it? Any help? Thanks ;D

Answer:X200 Tablet

Which OS are you using on the X200t? There is the recovery partition on the hdd, which allows you to recover the system to the factory condition (which reinstalls the OS + driver), you can burn the recovery media from windows provided you have the usb dvd/cd burner or the ultrabase with the ultrabay dvd/cd burner.

Question: X200 Tablet

Our company recently bought over 100 of the above. Lately we have noticed the mainboards have gone on several of them. Usually receive BIOS beeps indicating the video. Was just wondering whether others have had the same experience?

Answer:X200 Tablet

Assuming the specimens that failed were distributed across a broad range of users that weren't  in the vicinity of the same EMP then the law of quantities and percentages seems particularly visccious in this case. We purchase in lots of 25 and just sourced 75 hingers and 75 tablets and of varying Type's and didn't have a single DoA nor failure in the last  month. The reason we keep buying the most expensive laptop made is we know the quality can be assumed and the service can be assured, if you're geting bad service for any reason than expect swarms of assistance from the mod employees here determined to rectify your issues and ensure you choose Thinkpad for your next round of gear.

Hello, I was recently given a x200 tablet and was told that the screen supported both touch and stylus input. So far however I have only managed to get a response from the stylus. I'm running windows 7, Is there something that I'm missing or does this device only support the stylus? Any in site would be very much appreciated :}

Answer:Help with x200 tablet

Hi! I would first check if you indeed have a model that supports multitouch. Please go here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/partsLookup.page You'll then need to enter your machine type, which is a 4 digit code on the bottom of the laptop. Then enter the serial number (located right from the model type, it says something like S/N xxxxxx) and you will get a list of the components installed on your X200T. Try to identify the screen and post the resuts here. My 2 cents...

Is the x200 tablet coming out in 2.13 Ghz?? I found that it said Lenovo Canada offered this... however I live in Canada and I do not see this option. I also called their Sales Rep and Technical support, and nobody was sure.... Anybody know? I have installed Windows 8.1 Professional on on a Lenovo X220 Tablet and everything seems to have installed correctly, although my system, which supported limited touch with 2 touch points in Windows 7, only has Pen Support in 8.1. I have been able to get the system to be recognized as "Pen and Limited Touch Support with 2 Touch Points" but only if I disable/unintall the Intel HD 3000 driver, and use Microsoft Basic Display Adapter instead.  The problem is that the resolution isn't as crisp.   Any recommendations as to what I can do to get the limted touch to be recognized with the Intel HD 3000 driver?  This one is baffling.   Any help would be appreciated.  The X220 Tablet's type is 4296-2WU Also, the Intel HD Graphics 3000 driver is the latest version compatible with 8.1 64bit - 9.17.10.3517. Update: I have also tried the previous Intel driver release, 9.17.10.3347, as well as the recommend Intel driver from the support page 9.17.10.2843 and non of them allow my screen to do Limited Touch Support with 2 Touch Points.  Yet, if I disable the Intel driver, and restart, I can.

Answer:X220 Tablet and Windows 8.1 - Limited Touch drops with Intel HD 3000 is installed?

Troy,

Thanks for sharing your expeirences and the details of the driver version.

Officially, I don't think Lenovo provided full support for Win 8 on the X220, but as you note it (and the upgrade to 8.1) can work with some limitations.   I'll check with one of our software engineers to see if he may have some suggestions on this one.

I expect you will probably draw some responses from the community as the X220 was a very popular system with a good following.

Best regards,

Hi folks, I have a x200 tablet. It's pretty nice but the speakers suck big time on it. I use external speakers with it for decent sound but it's not a mobile solution i.e. I cant always carry the speakers with me. So I am looking to replace the speaker kit in this machine with something nicer. My research indicates the part no. is 45N3134. How do I find compatible but better speakers for this machine? NOTE: I dont want to simply replace the existing kit with the same one. I wan't something better - perhaps altec lansing?

I have a Lenovo X200 Tablet with a 128-gigabyte SSD. So far, it's wonderfully fast and long on battery life, so "yay." How do I keep it this way, though? I usually use System Mechanic, but its support doesn't say a thing about "SSD," "Solid state disk" or "solid state drive." That doesn't make me sanguine, so my question is: Is there such a thing as disk defragmentation with an SSD? If so, what do I do about it? It strikes me that tools meant for magnetic media could wreak all kinds of havoc.

Answer:X200 Tablet SSD maintenance

If you ask me, I would say disk defragment help boost performance especially when reading and writing large files-- and what Lenovo recommends is defragging by its tool--you may read @inside the box, Lenovo's blog for some interesting aspect. I don't think tool matters. They all do the same basically, but you should not defrag that often. However, If it comes with like 3-year warranty,  you don't have to care about that =) just backup often. If it breaks one day, just ask for replacement!

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate. Short story: The green power indicator (the (Z) light) will be on, but the computer is otherwise entirely unresponsive and is absolutely silent: the fan isn't running and CPU/processor isn't clicking away.  My only way of successfully interacting with it is by holding the power button to force a power-down.  Is this a hardware problem? Long story: Initially, I had a problem with sleep mode; when I would close my computer, it would go to sleep and when I reopened it, it would remain asleep.  The green moon light, indicating sleep mode, was on, but the computer was otherwise unresponsive.  Even holding the power button to force a power down was futile, unless I pressed the button within seconds of opening the notebook. Scanning the Internet lead to a lot of people having similar, but not exactly so, problems with their ThinkPads, but the popular solution (turning off hybrid sleep) did nothing, as it was already off.  I pressed the ThinkVantage button and downloaded whatever updates were available for that, and once the download was finished, I restarted my computer, which also installed a few Windows updates which had been waiting in the background.  Windows did its usual installation as it powered down, and as it restarted, the problems I described in the Short story version above began.  I've been stuck at this point ever since.  The RAM and hard drive appear to be undamaged.&... Question: x200 tablet memory

I have 2GB memory in my x200 tablet now. Will it work if I put another 1 GB memory inside? Or it has to work in pairs, like 2 X 2GB?

Answer:x200 tablet memory

The memory doesn't have to be paired, matched, same manufacturer, or identical. It has to be compatible with the hardware used. In other words, it has to be 204-pin PC3-8500 DDR3 memory modules. If you are currently using 2 x 1GB modules, you will need to purchase a 2GB module to have a total of 3GB. I would suggest you check to see what configuration you have. Either 1 x 2GB module or 2 x 1GB modules. You can check this with software [CPU-Z] or by physically removing the panel and verifying the configuration.  Note: If checking with CPU-Z, download and run the utility. Click the "SPD" tab. Click the drop-down box labeled "Slot #1". The details should show wether it's a 1GB module or a 2GB module. If it's a 1GB module, select "Slot #2", and it should show you that it contains another 1GB module. Hope this helps.

My computer is no more than two months old, and last night the CPU fan (on the left side of the computer just next to the power adapter port) started making a very loud, grating noise. I shut the laptop down for the night, and this morning when I turned it on I received a "Fan error" message, and the computer proceeded to shut off immediately. Thinking that there might be dust obstructing the fan (after two months this was highly unlikely, but there was a chance), so I used "Dust-off" and blew it into the heat sync. The fan spun with some noise, no dust came out of the sync, but when I tried turning the computer on immediately afterward, it worked. When Windows booted up, the fan started accelerating and stared making the very loud grating noise again, and then after about 30 seconds stopped spinning altogether. I do not feel any heat or air coming out of the heat sync. I am extremely worried, as I have to leave for China on June 16th and do not have time to send this in to the depot for repair. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks in advance,Jim

Answer:x200 Tablet CPU Fan Failure

Hi jpearse, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

Sorry to hear about the odd behavior of your X200 fan.

It's possible there is something in the fan. To get better access, you can remove the keyboard (movie of that here).

There's a very good chance a depot repair will be done before you leave, if you start process right away.

You could also try a local warranty service provider.

I would opt for the depot repair, because I've had good experience with it (almost always returned the same week), and if it was important, I'd make sure I had a plan B.
