I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Looking for SmartCard reader for the ThinkPad X200 Tablet

luisTablet, welcome to the Lenovo User Community! That's an ExpressCard/34 / ExpressCard/54 slot in your X200 tablet. You need to search for an ExpressCard SmartCard reader. For instance, Lenovo sells a Gemplus one.

Hi I've looked at every category in the drivers matrix and absolutely cannot find the drivers that control the Tablet buttons on my tablet screen,  Can anyone point me to a link???  I found another thread on this forum that talks about a similar issue and someone posted a link to beta drivers, but the link doesn't go beyond the main Support home page at Lenovo.  Thanks, -G

Hey there Cr0sschex77,

To get some clarification to better direct you, what operating system are you currently using? Additionally are you referring to physical buttons or "buttons" on the touchscreen once at the desktop? Thanks Cr0sschex77!

I could use help with these two fingerprint issues with my X200 Tablet:1. I started using it to log into Windows 7.  But I've noticed when I now log in to Windows 7 without my fingerprint (by typing in a password), some of the icons in the icon notification tray (lower right corner) disappear.  The programs are running in the background but the icons won't appear, which is frustrating because for all 3 of the applications there, they operate by clicking the icon in the notification tray (when they disappear there's no way to activate the application).  If I log out and then back in using my fingerprints, the icons reappear. 2. For about 2 weeks I was able to use the fingerprint program to set up password access to a number of my applications like Quicken and Outlook.  This meant that when I logged into Windows with my fingerprint, I didn't have to provide a password for Quicken or Outlook (other than in the initial fingerprint set-up).  But the functionality just stopped.  I've looked at Lenovo's fingerprint application and documentation but there's no mention about it being used to store passwords for third party applications.

Does the Fingerprint Reader for the X200 Tablet have a driver for Windows 7?  I tried installing it manually and got an error that says it's only for Windows Vista, and upon using the System Update 4, it does not include the Fingerprint driver either. Also, the Tablet Buttons do not work ever since I switched to W7 either.  I have installed every update I can find through System Update and the site, and those that will not install say they are only for Vista.  The Tablet Buttons are a big issue, they are very useful and very essential to working in Tablet Mode.  I don't care as much about the Fingerprint Reader, I can get over that, but the Tablet Buttons are very useful. Are they working on a driver for them or something, or should I just give up on them?  I really liked using them when I was in Vista. Any information would be great.

I was having problems with getting the tablet buttons on my x200 tablet to work on Windows 7 32-bit using the current drivers--I found this beta driver which fixed the problem: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/WIN7-BETA.html#tbx200

Hi.  I upgraded my x200 tablet 7450-W6X to Win 7 and now the fingerprint reader is not working.  I installed the software from the lenovo website and also via lenovo update.  when I try and enroll a finger it says:  Cannot communicate with the sensor.  Make sure the sensor is ready.  Any ideas as to the problem?  It worked find with Vista Business.  I"m using Win 7 Pro now.

Answer:Fingerprint Reader not working Win 7 x200 tablet

I found a curious work around.  I tried all the various combinations of drivers available on this site and in desperation tried a AES2810 driver from DELL.  So here is what you do:  Search for and download this file from DELL:  R207052.exe and put someplace such as your desktop.  It is 14,712,832 byte file.  Then uninstall the Authentec Biometric Device in Device Manager and then delete then in Control Panel under uninstall programs, uninstall the Authentec Truesuite application and then uninstall the Lenovo Fingerprint software and reboot.  Once rebooted, install the DELL software.  Go to Device Manager and under Biometric Devices, click on Enroll Fingers and it will bring up the DELL software which will allow you to enroll fingers.  Reboot and low and behold you will swipe your enrolled finger and VIOLA, no more typing in password to log on to Win 7.  I do not work for Lenovo(obviously)I do not work for DELL PS: it only allows you to log on to Windows.  It does not have a scroll feature in things like internet explorer.

Hi all,I purchased an X200 tablet, and I got the free Windows 7 upgrade from Lenovo. After I manually upgraded from Vista to Win7 (not a fresh install), everything runs smoothly. The fingerprint reader works fine, and it even kept my prints from Vista. However, with Windows 7, I can only slide my fingers in one direction (from right to left, if using the X200 in the normal laptop orientation). If you are a tablet user, you would know that there is a left and right 'dent' surrounding the reader, which allows you to slide your fingers in either direction.I tried re-installing the fingerprint reader software -- as well as resetting my stored finger prints -- but it still only lets me slide in one direction. If I slide my fingers from left to right, I'll get a 'no match' error. I erased my prints and stored them again, sliding from left to right with the screen in normal position. Lenovo's fingerprint software saves my prints, but when I log into Windows, I can still only swipe from right to left. Is it a Win7 issue?

Answer:X200 Tablet fingerprint reader only reads in one direction

I finally figured it out! I went into my Device Manager >> Biometric Devices >> right clicked on Authen Tech >> Properties. The driver looked outdated, so I tried "Update Driver" for fun. Windows 7 actually found an updated version online, and now it's updated to v.8.1.2.56, dated 7/7/2009. Now, I can swipe my fingers left-to-right or right-to-left!

Hi all, This started of as an email to direct to Lenovo, but after 1 hour of going through there various websites only to discover they don't seem to have an online contact form or a public email address. So I am hoping someone here can help me with my questions.  I have a few questions regarding the IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad x200 Tablet (7450-R93).I am aware that this is not your current model and they have been superseded by the x201 model. The x200?s ?touchscreen?, I cannot seem to find any precise details regarding the type of touch screen technology used in these units. What type of touch technology is used in the x200: Resistive, SAW, Capacitive, Hybrid Capacitive or something else?If we were to purchase a lot of between 5-10 brand new units from the USA, is the warranty offered an international warranty?Do you still produce/sell accessories for this model: specifically batteries and do you make a case for this unit that enables table use while still in the case? Sorry I was to slack to rewrite the email that I prepared to send. ;-) Cheers, Matt

"The x200?s ?touchscreen?, I cannot seem to find any precise details regarding the type of touch screen technology used  in these units. What type of touch technology is used in the x200: Resistive, SAW, Capacitive, Hybrid Capacitive or something else?" I own a x200t but not THAT x200t you are looking for, so i don't know. But i can tell you that when it comes to the digitizer option on a x200t you have basicaly 3 options:1) you only have an active digitizer (wacom made) that can be used with the included stylus.2) you have the wacom digitize + the passive-resistive digitizer. The latter can be used with your finger.3)wacom+passive capacitive multitouch digitizer. The fact is that the first x200t models ha the reistive option only. But the last x200t also implemented the wacom capacitive multitouch one.  "If we were to purchase a lot of between 5-10 brand new units from the USA, is the warranty offered an international  warranty?"From what i know ALL lenvo thinpad tablet (x200t or x201t) are sold ONLY with internationa warranty. It doesn't depend on the number  of units you want to purchase. "Do you still produce/sell accessories for this model: specifically batteries and do you make a case for this unit that  enables table use while still in the case?"The accessories are the same fr x200t and x201t. I am the owner of an X200 Tablet (7448-CTO). I purchased this laptop (+ 3 year on-site repair and Thinkpad Protection) for school just over 2 years ago. Long story short,  I am having EXTREMELY bad luck with the screen on this laptop and am curious about what sort of Lemon Policy that Lenovo might have. Pretty much the only problems I've had with this laptop have been related to the screen. (Although I think I did have to get the motherboard replaced once). Anways, I don't remember my exact repair history, but it seems that within the first 1.5 year of owning it I had to have the screen replaced twice. The first time went well. The issue was resolved. I forget what went wrong next, but on that repair the person apparently wasn't very familiar with the convertible tablets because the screen area/hinge didn't seem put together correctly when he was done. After that repair I caved and mailed my laptop to the depot. However, I did wait awhile to make the service call because the laptop was usable and I needed it. By the time I had time to send it in, they decided to replace the screen. However, this time the part wasn't available and I ended up having to wait for qiute a bit. I finally got it escalated but the guy in Atlanta that was supposed to be doing that completely ignored me (never called to update after the initial contact when he said he would and never answered messages). I finally got through to his backup guy on the phone and that guy *somehow* found the... Read more

Hi,

I upgraded to Windows 10 a few days ago, and have been experiencing frequent BSOD over time for different reasons. Attached is the log of the last one I just encountered today (there are also dumps from some of the earlier BSODs). It occurs when I am not by the computer as usual again. This time, my external monitor was plugged in but not switched on as an extended monitor. Before this one, the BSOD were usually coded as CRITICAL PROCESS DIED or SERVICE error or similar for different reasons. But most of them occur when there is no activity on the computer for a while. My external Dell monitor was usually plugged in as the extended monitor. Those BSOD also caused some hard driver errors which I have fixed yesterday. It also cannot automatically login despite I have set it up.

Basic info on my computer: Lenovo Thinkpad X200 tablet, with Mobile Intel 4 Series chipset of graphics card. From my device manager, I didn't see any obvious problem with drivers so far. Intel does not provide a proper graphics driver for WIndows 10, but I want to use OpenGL.

Hopefully you can help me figure out what's the problem and how to fix it. Thanks.

Answer:Frequent BSOD on Thinkpad X200 tablet with two screens

Just got another BSOD while I left my office for a while. Attached is the dump file.

PS: I tried to read the dump file by installing windows debugging tools, but I got the "win32 error 0n193" error. I tried to use the x86 windbg.exe, no success. If anyone can point out how to read the dump file by myself if analyzing the dump file will take a while, I would appreciate it!

Dear community, I found my screen starts flickering not long after I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 on my thinkpad x200 tablet. It happens especially when I have an external monitor connected to the laptop and when I maximize a Microsoft Edge brower on screen. Scrolling the mouse will trigger the lines on a page flickering back and forth or partially disappeared. This is really annoying when I want to scroll down a little bit to find some useful information. I have tried to use the "sfc /scannow" command to identify potential problems and to reinstall compatible Thinkpad graphics and video drivers, but no luck. I have also tried other solutions that I can find online (like disabling the issue reporting service), yet still this problem persists. I contacted Microsoft for their assistance, and they suggest me to ask the manufacture to solve this problem. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks,Qi

Here is a quick soultion to this screen problem in windows 10  1. Type ?msconfig? in run box and open it 2. Click on the ?Services? tab. 3 Scroll down and find two services named ?Problem Reports and Solution Control Panel ?and ?Windows Error Reporting Service?. If you have difficulty finding these two services then you click on ?Service? column header in the table. This will alphabetically arrange all the services. 4. Uncheck these two services. For the past 3 weeks my thinkpad table x200 has not been working. Thanks to the great lenovo/ibm support. I am looking for help. I called the support and explained the problem, I was encountering with my thinkpad tablet. They told me, I have to reinstall vista. So they sent me the vista/lenovo install disk. Very fast (3 weeks later, so yesterday) I finally get the dvds (3 in total). But how do I install vista without a dvdplayer. Unfortunately,I don't have one with my machine. I supposed, they knew what they were doing at Lenovo.  Does anyone has a way to do it? Should I place it on an external hardrive, an usb key? Thank you for any help you can give me! If I cann't find a way to do it, I will call back the lenovo/support... gosh at the end of the week, it will be 4 weeks..  Bye Hernan

Do a search online for installing vista through a USB drive. Requires one 4+ GB in size. Isn't a terribly hard thing to do.

I recently did a fresh install of win 7 64-bit on my thinkpad x200 tabletpc, updated all the usual drivers and software from lenovo and windows update. Whenever I rotate my display into tablet mode, I always get the message 'USB Device Not Recognized' in the system tray, windows then trys to find and install device drivers for it but is unsuccessful every time. I have tried to find device drivers to fix this without any success. In device manager, I see the culprit highlighted under Universal Serial Bus Controllers with a yellow exclamation mark sign beside 'Unknown Device' with a location of Port_#001.Hub_#002. I have tried uninstalling and and reinstalling this, still no success. I have tried to disable it merely to stop the annoying prompt from the system tray yet it still comes back and warns me of the same problem. Has anybody else experienced this ? Does anybody have any suggestion for solving the problem ?I'm guessing it is related to the display driver, I will try installing/reinstalling another version of that to see if that fixes it. I'm starting to doubt the integrity of this tablet, I've begun to notice a lot more driver and USB conflicts lately..

I guess, this is missing and so unknown devices cannot get recognized well.

So I upgraded to Windows 10, everything works out, but I noticed from Matlab that the OpenGL support is only on the version of 1.1. I further pocked around , and found the graphics accelerator driver is from Microsoft and has some known issues (from Matlab). Then I downloaded the Intel Driver Update Utility to update the graphics driver, but nothing can be found there. Back to Windows 7, the Intel Driver works fine for me and gave OpenGL ~2.2 support. Does anyone knows better drivers in Windows 10 than the default Microsoft one? Thanks in advance.

Thinkpad x200, Win 7pro 32bit, everything works exept:
The SD card reader which is listed in device manager as

RICOH R5U880FlashMedia USB Device

Have uninstalled/reinstalled drivers, installed latest lenovo software, and when a card is inserted the little green light blinks and it shows up as Removable Disk (D: ) but doesn't recognise the card, even when I double click it. I've tried 3 different cards.

So, the computer knows when a card has been inserted but fails to recognise/read the contents.

It shows up as;

Devices with removable storage (1), when double clicked a small window pops up asking for a disk to be inserted.

Any ideas on how to fix this card reader ?

Hello,I've just bought my new tablet and, overall, I a very impressed with its features. One feature I thought was particularly cool was the fingerprint reader to log on. Sadly, the software didn't come with laptop and, when searching "fingerprint" in Start and scanning over the control panel, it was not there. I have read most of the discussios here concerning my problem, but found no answers and searched everywhere suggested. I then installed the driver from the lenovo site and got as far as the screen with a hand to register one of your fingerprints, clicked the thumb icon and it said that there was no such device detected on my laptop. I was hoping to get it working soon but if I can't find a solution it doesn't matter - It's not absolutely essential/urgent. I was just a little disappointed that the device did not work. Thanks in advance for any help, Doug.

Sigh.  Hopefully someone here can help me. Does anyone know the type model number for the Thinkpad x200 Ultrabase?? I'm trying to get a defective Thinkpad x200 ultrabase replaced because the USB ports stopped working.  Tested it with other USB devices, on other x200s, etc...no go. I tried going through Lenovo's <sarcasm> wonderful </sarcasm> tech support but for some strange reason they can not replace the part because they cannot find the model type in their system.   I sent them a 600DPI PDF of the back of the docking station to them and they said that they still couldn't find it in their system. This is a company laptop and it belongs to a vice president.  They want a proof of purchase (which I don't have because they are ordered through another department and to get that information it might take a week...at the earliest).  Why do they even have the serial number if they cannot connect it to anything in their system??? The worst part is that this is not the first time I've had issues replacing parts.  Every time it takes at least an hour and the parts NEVER come when they say that they do.  (sorry, once they did...bleeping miracle) I NEVER receive an email saying the part was sent or they are having issues, etc. WORST SYTEM EVER. I hope some high mucky-muck is reading this and gets pissed.  Their system is BROKEN and needs to be fixed. Thank you!

Not sure where to put this. Mods please move it if it fits better elsewhere.

I have a Dell Latitude D620 laptop which has an integrated Smartcard reader but I do not know how to use it.

It is enabled in the BIOS and in the Windows Device Manager the Smartcard reader appears OK as well as something called "Broadcom Trusted Platform". The Smartcard Reader service is running.

So, now what? I was assuming the reader would show up in the Windows Explorer like a USB reader but I cannot see anything. What am I supposed to do next? Can I buy a plain Smartcard memory card and write and read like to a pendrive? Or is it only a reader? In which case, how do I write or program the Smartcards?

How is the Smartcard reader supposed to work? It seems it can be used to log in to Windows instead of a password but I have no idea how to use it.

Also, it seems there are different types of Smartcards, with different sets and number of contacts (8, 6, ?).

I understand that a Smartcard can hold certificate and other info to log in and to digitally sign. How do I get this to work?

Answer:How to use Smartcard reader

Smartcards is done in a PKI environment. Meaning, your laptop needs to be joined in a Windows 2003 or 2008 server environment that is requiring usually a double key log-in. You would use an ID card sometimes along with a password to log-in to the machine.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_key_infrastructure

So to get your laptop working you are going to need the following...

ID card
ID card reader and software
Server with Certificate Authority installed
Be a member of the domain

Then, at this point, you would put the ID card into the Smartcard Reader and log-in to the machine.

Question: SmartCard Reader

Hi,
in our company we have laptops Dell Latitude E5570, OS Windows 10.
Many users report that they have problem with smart card reader - problem is that thay can't sign in with smart card because Windows doesn't recognise SmartCard.
Hardware ID: USB\VID_0A5CPID_5832&REV_0101&MI_01
Problem is that device suddenly is not installed anymore. After restart everything works normally. We wanted to install newer driver for that model so we downlaoded and installed latest driver from Dell site - Dell ControlVault2 Driver and Firmware.
We noticed that offical driver for this model install old driver from 2006 - Microsoft Usbccid Smartcard Reader (WUDF) and we think this could be cousing the problem.
Do you have any expirience with such a problem? Can you give me link for newer driver? Maybe original Broadcom driver, not Microsoft..
Hardware ID: USB\VID_0A5CPID_5832&REV_0101&MI_01

Thanks in advance!

I need a smartcard reader KB, and the only one I see is:http://accessories.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=332-1571
But my system (XPS8700) does not appear on the list of compatibility for that product.  Does that mean it would not work with my system?
Thanks.

Hello, this is about the Elitebook 2170p I now own (barebones ebay, bought the tray and battery seperate but with a samsung 850 pro I had laying around this thing is quite zippy  the integrated smartcard reader has a driver, but I dunno which smartcards are supported nor can I find instructions how to write to a card in order to lock my laptop to the card.  There seems to be no application to download in windows 10 and I dunno if there is one in windows 7 because I just installed windows 10, albeit with dual boot so if it's 7/bios only that would be cool. I saw some blank smart cards on ebay but I dunno if they are compatible, and then there is still the issue of the missing application to customize the smart card to ensure that my laptop can recognize it and it only.the elitebook 2170p has an alcor smart card reader.need some infoterramir

I'm looking for an ACER-notebook with integrated smartcard reader. On the website I can't find anything about smartcard readers. Any suggestions?

Answer:Integrated smartcard-reader...

Most of the smart card readers out there should work on most newer computers. Find the smartcard reader you want, and make sure you get a computer that meets the requirements for using the smartcard.

This is the only major showstopper for me in using Seven 95%

ActivIdentity USB Reader V2
ActiveClient 6.1

Both work fine in Vista 64 on the same box in dual boot.

In Vista the driver used is the generic MS usbccid.sys driver version 6.0.6001.18000 dated 6/1/2006

In Seven there are 4 MS drivers all version 6.1.7000.0 dated 6/21/2006:
- scfilter.sys
- WUDFUsbccidDriver.dll
- winusb.sys
- WUDFRd.sys

In Device Manager status I get the "This device Cannot Start. (code 10)" message.

If I uninstall the device and plug it back in I can see that Windows sees an ActivCard USB reader V2 (shows up in "Other Devices" while drivers are trying to install) but the install fails for the Microsoft Usbccid smartcard Reader (WUDF). I have tried the latest drivers to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Smartcard reader issues

The new Microsoft Smartcard class driver (WudfUsbccid.dll) supports both CCID and ICCD Smartcard devices. Because of this, it does a sanity check on the device type reported by the hardware. Unfortunately, the ActivCard reader is really a CCID reader but its firmware is reporting itself as an ICCD device. Because of this, the driver failed to start. This is a known issue to Microsoft and it is being addressed. In the mean time, you may want to download the driver from the ActivCard web site instead of using the Microsoft in-box class driver.

Thanks.

Winbond smartcard reader manufacturer installed on XP SP2, usually shows as Drives I, J, K and L in My Computer. I think I have inadvertantly stopped it when stopping another usb item. Device Manager says it is working properly. I've tried reinstalling the drivers from original support disk to no avail. It won't allow me to process my SD cards nowAny suggestions welcome.

Answer:Can't access usb smartcard reader

Delete via the device manager and let windows find new hardware again, when asked for the disk simply follow instructions.

I have been recently getting a lot of BSOD on my Thinkpad "x200" tablet. It may be caused by the fact that I am using a refurbished x201 tablet motherboard with rest of the components from a dead x200 tablet. However, it was working perfectly before I cleaned installed it on last week and I had the Frankenpad working since spring break. I don't know if it started before or after I installed 8gbs of PNY ddr3 ram. I believe it happened after I corrected a Machine code error 2200 on my laptop (lack of serial and model number in bios) and added a Intel 6300 wireless card.

Details:
? 64 bit
? clean installed to Windows 7 Professional upgrade (via usb, used ISO from digital river and made the usb bootable using Universal USB Installer from pendrivelinux.com)
? Age of laptop: unknown, motherboard was a refurbished product I got during Spring break.

The one crash included was caused by a memory exception probably by an unknown driver

Since you added ram recently I would run Memtest

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program.

Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slo... Read more

I had Vista installed on my T61 and the smartcard reader worked perfectly, however I just downgraded to Windows XP SP3 and this is the only device that will not work correctly, it shows the yellow ! in device manager and says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" I used System Update to get the drivers and downloaded them directly but the reader will not work.  The entry in device manager says its using the latest drivers, 4.0.0.8.  I've tried multiple times uninstalling the device and rebooting and deleting the driver out of the Windows folder and reinstalling by no luck.   Any suggestions?

Hi, I have a w520 and I would like to install  the smartcard reader.I ordered the reader but unfortunately it come without the cable needed to connecting it to the laptop. Now if I want to buy the cable I have to order this kit FRU 04W1584 which contains a lot of other useless parts and costs 60$.I was wondering if someone ordered the kit for using the other parts and still have the cable for the card reader. Cheers

Answer:w520 smartcard reader and FRU 04W1584

Sorry to bump an old thread, but just to provide some help... I just sort of went through this retrofitting my T520 with a smartcard reader. I was able to find the reader itself (FRU 04W1564) on ebay for cheap, but no dice on the cable/screws. The cable is a standard Flat Flex cable. It is 6 pin and .5mm pitch. The screws are standard M2 x 3mm. The cable you can easily buy from digikey or mouser, you'll need at least 4 inches length.http://www.digikey.com/product-search/en?FV=fff40018%2Cfff8020f%2C1340042%2C13409ef%2C1340db9%2C1340...orhttp://www.mouser.com/Wire-Cable/FFC-FPC-Jumper-Cables/_/N-ad930?P=1z0vspmZ1z0wxjxZ1yxzolqZ1yzrotaZ1...  This also happens to be the exact dimmensions of the PS3 slim power cable...http://www.ebay.com/sch/?_from=R40&_nkw=ps3+slim+power+button+ribbon&_sacat=See-All-Categories Shipped to your door under $10.

Answer:T61 smartcard reader not in device manager???

There is a similar issue with the 15.4" model when upgrading to windows seven. The solution is to use the vista drivers, but after extracting them, instead of running the install program, go to device manager and the hardware will be listed as "base system device", and you can manually update them within device manager by browsing to the location of the vista drivers. I suspect this will work for the the 14.1" model too.

I've noticed that SmartCard service is running at my Win 8.1 Pro 64-bit system. I don't use smart cards and don't need it. I've also read Black Viper's Windows 8.1 Services guidance and noted that this service was presented there as disabled in every configuration.

Somehow, on my machine it has been automatically enabled. My machine (Dell Precision M4800) has a fingerprint reader - can it be related to this service? I'd rather expect it to be related to Windows Biometric Services yet this one has always been disabled on my machine...

Is it safe for me to disable SmartCard service or can anyone come up with a solution what other function / application may need it?

Answer:Smartcard service relation to fingerprint reader?

If you don't know what a smartcard is for then you don't need it. It is only required if the IT department give you one.

My job is writing software for banks and I can count on less than one finger the number of bank IT departments that require a smartcard. It just is not used. Elsewhere perhaps but certainly not in the banking sector where you'll simply not be allowed on their network at all.

Fingerprints are a separate thing entirely and I use one to log on to my PC as a matter of course.

I just a applied the latest Windows Update patches to my Windows 7 PC and after rebooting found that my Dell smartcard reader keyboard was no longer showing up on my RDP sessions (Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Servers).

After some investigation I discovered that by removing update 2830477 that it returned to normal and my reader appeared again. I also noted that the prerequisite patches, 2574819 & 2857650, are installed as needed.

Is there something we need to do differently with the new version of the RDP client provided by 2830477 as we cannot see any difference in the settings.

Hi, I have a W510 with an integrated smartcard reader. I tried to setup a new smart card, but at Client security solution ver. 8.30 over a windows 7  64 bits, is not recognized. Accessing the CSS software, I choose the Advance menu, an the option "Setup smartcard" always remains not highlighted, that means that the CSS software doesn't recognize the Smartcard/smartcard reader. The smart card reader driver is recognized by the system devices and it's installed well, the system said that is working correctly but I'm not able to access the "setup smartcard" option at CSS SW. I updated everything from Lenovo site and still doesn't work. Someone has any clue or idea about this? I'm trying to setup a Encryption Smart Card, I don't  have idea about what kind, but it's new from an Omnibook (a pack with 5 smartcards) and it comes label with "an imagineCard Solution" label. it has a round chip instead a square chip like the credit cards. I really appreciate all your advices about this. Ebert Toxqui

Hi,. the particular model of my x200 is 7453-FJ9. I bought it from ebay and the seller claimed is was multi-touch. After checking on the Levono support page where you identify the machine features through the model # above, it does not mention anything about being touch capable let alone multitouch. However, since I installed a new copy of windows 7 pro 64-bit on a new hdd, after installing all of the automated lenovo and windows updates, I checked the system properties and it states 'Pen and Single Touch Input Available' as shown in my system properties screen below.

Link to picture

I have tried to use the single touch input but it does not seem to be working. I have tried calibrating touch input though the screen calibration and it has not worked. I have looked at the HCI devices in the device manager and it shows 'Wacom Penabled MiniDriver','Bluetooth Remote Control', 'HID Compliant Consumer Control Device' and several repeated entries of 'HID-compliant device' but nothing about touch input !

I don't understand what is going on, do you think this tablet has touch input available ? Should I try install the touch driver on the lenovo website ? the wacom website ? or am i just wasting my time thinking it has touch input since it is not mentioned on the 7453-FJ9 lenovo support page (that I can see). Any advice on this would be kindly appreciated..

hi guys i really want to try a windows 8 tablet and i plan to buy it either by the end of this month or by next January. I am confused on what to pick though
First of all, the reason why I want a windows 8 tablet IS because i like the interface. but more importantly, i need metatrader and cTrader in legacy app as im a full time forex trader. I have metatrader in my iphone but you cant seriously compare that with the windows version (no tabbing, no lines drawing, no fibonacci, etc.). cTrader doesnt even exist there.
im looking to replace my macbook pro (which btw i also installed windows 8 on it through parallels virtual desktop) with a windows 8 tablet to support my trading while im outside
So basically I dont need a super i7 tablet or something. However, im curious to know how windows 8 atom tablets perform. I have seen enough reviews and some people says atom tablets perform badly in legacy apps. Question is, how bad is that bad? Does it lag so bad even though i dont need to run heavy apps like adobe? I only need to run these trading apps which btw are very light. You can compare them with MS paint i believe, just with constant connection.
would it do well in atom tablets? I dont want lags when i switch from win8 native apps to metatrader and cTrader.
next question - how does windows 8 tablet on-screen keyboard work with legacy apps? Would i have special gesture to show up the on-screen keyboard or it automatically appears when i touch the screen? I personally dont believe ... Read more

I've got an x200 tablet that doesn't do so well as a tablet.I've gotten everything from the dreaded blue screen when the pen is touched to it,  to it being totally unresponsive to pen input. Everything but the tablet issue seems to work fine. Hasn't been dropped, smashed or had any liquids poured on it. Also has (had?) an obnoxious amount of antivirus/spyware/ect. software.Downloaded every driver, went back to several restore points and even took it all the way back to its out of the box state with recovery disks.Took it into the tech/repair center at my university. They had it for three weeks and didn't know what to do with it either...It's still under warranty, but even if it's not somehow covered I'd much rather pay repair costs than buy a new computer. So what the heck do I do with it now? Send it back to the company? (Really resisting the urge to set it on fire.)

Answer:x200 not being much of a tablet

Which O/S are you running?   I have an X200T (7448-CTO) and, after about 1.5 years under Vista, it started to develop severe flakiness (e.g. frequent IE and Office app crashes) although the tablet functionality was still working OK.  I finally decided to bite the bullet and  install Windows 7 fresh (not an upgrade over Vista).  The process that Win7 uses is interesting in that it places the previous (Vista) Windows directory in something called Windows.old.   It does not reformat the drive nor does it delete any other directories on C:/.  That process worked great for me (NB was/is virus free) although, in your case, I wonder if it wouldn't be smarter to relocate all of your documents and settings (e.g. favorites, contacts) to another storage medium and, quite literally, reformat the entire hard drive before installing a new O/S.  After Win7 has completed, install the Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox and it will perform all of the driver upgrades which, in my case, went near flawlessly.   All of my peripheral worked right away including the tablet functionality.  I did have to recalibrate the pen/tablet and work through the handwriting recognition training, but those tasks are only tedious, not difficult.  The only small issue I had, initially, was a SmartAudio driver error which, somehow, fixed itself.    I know that some people have reported issues with Win7/Thinkpad compatibility, but I can only report a comp... Please go here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/partsLookup.page You'll then need to enter your machine type, which is a 4 digit code on the bottom of the laptop. Then enter the serial number (located right from the model type, it says something like S/N xxxxxx) and you will get a list of the components installed on your X200T. Try to identify the screen and post the resuts here. My 2 cents...

I am having troubles with my lenovo x200 tablet running windows 7 32-bit.Last night it was working fine but this morning i turned it on and went into windows but i cannot log on because it goes to sleep automatically every 5 seconds or so. The 4 indicator lights are also flashing instead of staying still like the wireless and bluetooth indicator light if that makes a difference. Help is appreciated. Thank you in advance =)

Answer:X200 Tablet Help

It sounds like the notebook is low in power, either the battery has no charge or is not holding charge (old/defective). If it's plugged in  AC outlet already, then possibly computer hardware issue. Please refer to page 23 in the "Service and Troubleshooting Guide". You might need to have your unit serviced.

Just received an old 4GB X200 tablet with Windows 10 Pro via eBay to use for browsing.   I've found it quite fast and love the keyboard.  Old tech, but better than a lot of newer equipment.  And at $79 delivered, no way to lose, and it is very similar to my favorite T420. As it uses a 2.5" HDD, i am thinking about switching to an SSD (as I have with my T420).  I understand that the X200 uses Sata 2 and was wondering how others have found performance when doing this with an X200. I've found no problems with drivers so far, but are there more desirable ones than the Microsoft ones in Windows 10 for graphics, etc.?

Hi:I'm looking at purchasing the X200 tablet. I'm looking at the SL9600 offering as well as some of the other whistles and bells. What I am curious about is if there is any intention to replace the VGA port with a digital video interface such as HDMI as well as if there are any plans for a touch pad mouse. I'd hate to buy now just to have the VGA port replaced with HDMI next month. Also, I keep coming across all the different model numbers. Is there any good reference as far as the model numbers. I saw a posting here from last year with similar questions as mine and thought to get it updated.Any advisement on planned upgrades to the X200 in the near term by Lenovo would be appreciated and help me determine when to pull the trigger. Thanks

Answer:What is new with the X200 Tablet

I would wait. The X201 has been announced, so the X200 may come down in price.

I'm in the market for a new notebook, and I've really become enamored with the X200 tablet. Well, actually it was the X301 that first caught my eye, but it's just not fully-featured enough for me. Too bad, as I really liked the weight and the WXGA+ on a 13.3" display. Anyway, I'm a Windows applications developer, and I'm trying to determine the X200 tablet's suitability for my needs. As a programmer, I can always make use of additional display resolution, but I've simulated some WXGA screenshots on a 12.1" display, and I'm thinking it could work for me. I'd appreciate it if others could chime in here with what they use their own X200 tablet for on a regular basis and how well it performs and displays those tasks. Thanks.

Answer:What do you use your X200 tablet for?

Hi Rich, I use my X200 Tablet for everything and cannot say enough good things about it. I wear many hats right now Director of IT, Student, and believe or not I take it to church. I take my tablet everywhere! Currently I'm taken a Marketing class and DB design class and use it for notes and for MS Access running on windows 7 BETA. I have owned the all the X series tablets since the x41 which still run. Some of the problems I run into with DB design is the smaller screen but really it is not a huge factor because I'm in class when I'm at work I use the dock with 24" widescreen. I take my tablet to meetings, give presentations, and use it in place on my desktop. The only thing I would caution against is the process power for your type of development. For example it does not encode video as fast as a desktop but it can do it better than other notebooks in it's class. If you need speed and screen size try the W700 series with WACOM digitizer pad.  What I like most about the X series tablets is it's lightweight portability, performance, wireless options, and durability. I have download 50 eBooks, several text books, and read the electronic versions of eweek and love the annotate on them. If fact my wife makes fun me when I take it to the bathroom for reading materials. I can say that the tablet has changed the way I function in daily life. My wife is a Direct of IT as well and I finally got her to use a tablet with the same results.  The la... Read more

Is the x200 tablet coming out in 2.13 Ghz?? I found that it said Lenovo Canada offered this... however I live in Canada and I do not see this option. I also called their Sales Rep and Technical support, and nobody was sure.... Anybody know? I love my X200 in 1.2 Ghz as of now, I can only imagine how dreamy it would be with another Ghz    http://www.gottabemobile.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/x200tablet_canada.png Message Edited by ironslave on 05-21-2009 01:00 PM

I am considering buying a Thinkpad Tablet. Of the available models the ones that come with a 2.13GHz processor are the two X200 models (NRS93GE and NRT9RGE). As far as I can see, as opposed to the X61 models, the thinkpad X200 tablet models do *not* come with a "digitizer pen".  Can one still use them to take notes? How does one write on them?

Answer:Pen for X200 tablet?

what is a tablet without the digitizer pen... the X200 tablet do have a digitizer pen.  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170342459868 i think there is a picture of the x200 digitizer pen in the link provided.

I'm looking to buy an X200 tablet for school this fall, but I'm curious about the Trusted Platform Module (TPM).  I'm not a big fan of having TPM on my personal use equipment, thought I do see the advantages in a managed IT infrastructure.  According to the maintenance manual there are motherboards available both with and without the "security chip"/TPM feature, but purchasing one separately is a joke (US$1,400 or more) considering the cost of the base unit itself.  When customizing a unit on the Lenovo store there is no option for purchasing without a TPM.  The tacover.pmd document lists the TPM as being integrated into the ICH9M chip, which is the reason for needing a whole separate motherboard to get a unit without a TPM. Long story short, is it possible to have Lenovo build me a unit with a non-TPM motherboard? Thanks in advance.

Answer:X200 tablet available without TPM?

you can switch off the feature in the BIOS, it would probably cost the same regardless.... but unless you have a large order of some sort, these sort of things are not negotiable on a single build basis.

Hi, I don't where it would show up, if at all, without a card installed.  On mine I don't see anything untill I insert a card and then I see the card under Disk drives.

I have a Lenovo X200 Tablet with a 128-gigabyte SSD. So far, it's wonderfully fast and long on battery life, so "yay." How do I keep it this way, though? I usually use System Mechanic, but its support doesn't say a thing about "SSD," "Solid state disk" or "solid state drive." That doesn't make me sanguine, so my question is: Is there such a thing as disk defragmentation with an SSD? If so, what do I do about it? It strikes me that tools meant for magnetic media could wreak all kinds of havoc.

Answer:X200 Tablet SSD maintenance

If you ask me, I would say disk defragment help boost performance especially when reading and writing large files-- and what Lenovo recommends is defragging by its tool--you may read @inside the box, Lenovo's blog for some interesting aspect. I don't think tool matters. They all do the same basically, but you should not defrag that often. However, If it comes with like 3-year warranty,  you don't have to care about that =) just backup often. If it breaks one day, just ask for replacement!

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate. Short story: The green power indicator (the (Z) light) will be on, but the computer is otherwise entirely unresponsive and is absolutely silent: the fan isn't running and CPU/processor isn't clicking away.  My only way of successfully interacting with it is by holding the power button to force a power-down.  Is this a hardware problem? Long story: Initially, I had a problem with sleep mode; when I would close my computer, it would go to sleep and when I reopened it, it would remain asleep.  The green moon light, indicating sleep mode, was on, but the computer was otherwise unresponsive.  Even holding the power button to force a power down was futile, unless I pressed the button within seconds of opening the notebook. Scanning the Internet lead to a lot of people having similar, but not exactly so, problems with their ThinkPads, but the popular solution (turning off hybrid sleep) did nothing, as it was already off.  I pressed the ThinkVantage button and downloaded whatever updates were available for that, and once the download was finished, I restarted my computer, which also installed a few Windows updates which had been waiting in the background.  Windows did its usual installation as it powered down, and as it restarted, the problems I described in the Short story version above began.  I've been stuck at this point ever since.  The RAM and hard drive appear to be undamaged.&... Question: X200 Tablet sound

Hi, My X200 Tablet's sound controll is very poor. When adjusting volume to 0, the sound is 0. But if I turn up the volum to 1, the descible level is rather high - almost jumping to a medium level of my X60 Tablet. From volume level 1 and further up to 25 the adjustment is more or less linear. This is really anoying when I want to use my computer when travelling, putting on some soft background music or other things, as there is no level that is equal to a low level volume. To get the same level of sound when having the volume adjusted to 1, that I have on my X60 Tablet, or other computers for the sake, I have to use the program interal volume control to adjust the volume as well. For watching a movie in VLC (www.videolan.org) at the same sound level "1" as for the X60 Tablet, I have to turn the X200 Tablet's volume level to 1, and the the internal volume control in VLC to 5%, instead of just leaving it at 100% as it is on the X60 Tablet. I tried to adjust the volume with the ThinkVantage buttons, the windows volume from both in the tray window and from control panel. Anyone got a clue where the problem is, and what I am doing wrong? ThinkVantage System Update should be up to date with all drivers installed I think. Best regards,OAB

Answer:X200 Tablet sound

I have now installed Windows 7 on my X200 Tablet, and after installing Windows 7 the sound issue was automatically solved. Why this was a problem on XP, I never spent enough resources to find out and remains a mystery, but it leads me to think it was problems with software / drive incompatability. It is nice to have a normal working computer, having the same or better stability as Windows XP, with the same features and more than Vista. So for you that might encounter the same problem, not finding a solution for XP, I can recommed get Windows 7 Ultimate. Br OA

Question: X200 tablet WiFi

hi, I'm new so be nice. I made an attempt to put a mini centrino WiFi card into my Tablet but it responded with non authorised card present.card is  FRU-6Y3231 and the tablet is X200, 7450-RM9, looking at the parts listings it should be OK.I have try to put the card into the empty second PCI slot next to the HD, it install the drivers, but complains about the master switch no being ON , even the bluetooth is on, FN5 shows all systems go but no WiFi light. so not happy.Any ideas what I need to do Thanks Pete

Answer:X200 tablet WiFi

The X200t doesn't use a half length miniPCIe wireless card. The Intel 5100 and 5300 cards used in these systems are full length.

Question: x200 tablet memory

I have 2GB memory in my x200 tablet now. Will it work if I put another 1 GB memory inside? Or it has to work in pairs, like 2 X 2GB?

Answer:x200 tablet memory

The memory doesn't have to be paired, matched, same manufacturer, or identical. It has to be compatible with the hardware used. In other words, it has to be 204-pin PC3-8500 DDR3 memory modules. If you are currently using 2 x 1GB modules, you will need to purchase a 2GB module to have a total of 3GB. I would suggest you check to see what configuration you have. Either 1 x 2GB module or 2 x 1GB modules. You can check this with software [CPU-Z] or by physically removing the panel and verifying the configuration.  Note: If checking with CPU-Z, download and run the utility. Click the "SPD" tab. Click the drop-down box labeled "Slot #1". The details should show wether it's a 1GB module or a 2GB module. If it's a 1GB module, select "Slot #2", and it should show you that it contains another 1GB module. Hope this helps.

I have an x200 tablet that is randomly freezing on me.  The computer becomes totally unresponsive except for the cursor still being active.  I end up having to turn the power off and reboot.  I know some people on this forum seem to have had similar problems, any help would be greatly apreciated.  I can give more detailed description of the problem and what I've tried so far if necessary. Here are my system specs:Model: 7449-88UCPU: SL9400(1.86GHz)2GB RAM160GB 7200rpm HDIntel X4500HDIntel 802.11agn wirelessSecure chipFingerprint readerIntel Turbo Memory8c Li-IonVista Business 32

Answer:x200 tablet freezing

First question, how many processes your machine has. Click Ctrl+Shift+esc, then go to process tab, you will see how many processes your system has. You may like to disable something like Antivirus, Windows Defender, Diskeeper if you have. You should see a significant improvement by turn these 3 off.

Thanks.

As GUI designers, the X200 tablet's ability to convert to a touch panel is a wonderful tool during client design and collaboration meetings. End users can experience and comment on GUI functionality first hand while all meeting participants simultaneously watch the action on a boardroom screen. To fully realize the experience however, we find the unit could benefit from a couple of wish list items: 1. When the display is rotated to tablet mode and angled to approx. 45°, effectively mimicking a touch panel, the constant torque swivel hinge does not provide enough resistance to the push of a finger. Although we have easily remedied this with a simple adjustable device that locks the display into position, it would be fantastic if Lenovo could incorporate this feature directly into the unit. Not only does locking the hinge at any angle provide a solid surface to accept finger touch input, but it also converts the tablet into a perfect drawing easel without requiring an additional stand. This arrangement is so convenient in fact, that we usually keep our X200's on our desks in this mode, and use software from http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/ for keyboard and mouse input from the desktop machines:  2. To effectively mimic a touchpanel GUI, the touch drivers need to accept both the push and release of the finger, i.e. by passing both the left click button down and button up events to the underlying application. These push and release events could then be used to dri... Read more

Hello,I recently purchased a X200 Tablet with Windows 7 installed, and I have some queries about some possible problems:  1. I find that when I use my digitizer pen, it becomes inaccurate quite quickly. Sometimes it can become annoying to use after and hour, or after the system is resumed from sleep or hibernation (or when restarted). This means I have to calibrate the pen around 2 to 4 times a day. However, this is not a problem when touching the screen with the finger.  2. The tip of the digitizer pen can move sideward (and slightly in and out, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is how the pen works) and although it doesn't pose a problem (other than possibly causing the problem in the 1st point?), I am wondering whether this is normal. 3. When swiveling the screen round in tablet mode, the screen clicks into place, but is not held there very firmly, i.e. I can press the screen down till it touches the keyboard, and it would bounce back up again. Again, I'm wondering whether this is normal. I'd like to point out that this is my first tablet pc, so, to put it bluntly, I have no idea if I should be worried about these things. I'm also probably a bit paranoid, as these things don't come cheap. Excuse me if these questions may seem a little trivial, but I haven't had any luck finding any answers to them

Hello everyone Im thinking of buying a lenovo x200 tablet pc and as i cant get it directly from lenovo.com and have it configured as i want need to ask a few things  1. If you get it with the intel 5100 wifi card, how easy it is to change it with the 5300 yourself? I read that the 5300 uses three antennas, will the x200 have the antennas there or the change with the 5300 will be in waste? 2. The 3 GB ram that it will have preinstalled which brand are? Are they any good? or should i changed them with some crusial ones 2x2GBs? 3. The 320GB hdd 7200rpm which brand is it? 4. Is it easy to remove the turbo memory and should someone do that? 5.I have read the tabook,i have searched around but i cant understand this74508HU and 74538HUseems like they have everything the same but the difference in price is around 100$.Does anyone have an idea whats the difference? Then the 74498JU also has almost everything the same apart from windows XP to vista business and it has plus an ultrabase and DVD but costs 300$ less than 74508HU!!!So whats going on??? Which one should i get? I hope lenovo will allow sometime people from other countries to buy online from them because there are some countries that probably you will die or get very old before you can buy new stuff  thanksKonstantinosMessage Edited by kostasls on 11-18-2008 11:51 PMMessage Edited by kostasls on 11-18-2008 11:52 PM

Question: x200 tablet BSOD

Every day, at least once, if not 2-3 times, my tablet blue screens with "Stop: 0x000000F4" I have not installed new software or hardware. The tablet is completely up to date according to Lenovo system update and Windows update (Vista 32 bit SP 2).  Since I purchased it in March it has been freezing on me and I have had to hard reboot at least a few times a week. Now I get the blue screens and it is making me want to throw my computer against a wall and go purchase a Macbook Pro.  Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem is?

Answer:x200 tablet BSOD

Could be a couple of items: 1) memory, 2) hard drive, 3) motherboardFor 1), I'd suggest getting a copy of memtest86+ from here: http://www.memtest.org/#downiso Create the boot media and let the program run for at least three complete passes. For 2), I would get a copy of PC Doctor for DOS from here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-69537 and run the Fixed Disk diagnostics. I have not personally used this version of PC Doctor but I have run the one for T4x, T2x, A3x and X2x systems and they all have a diagnostic for checking the hard drive. For 3), use the same PC Doctor for DOS diagnostic and run the Systemboard and CPU tests to verify your motherboard.

Hi I am searching for an 8-cell or 9-cell battery for my x200 tablet -7448  at lenovo's accessory site. What suprises me is that the site lists battery 43R9255 (9-cell) as compatible, even though it operates at 10.8V.The original battery (4-cell) operates at 14.4 V. Is this corect? Shouldn't the voltage be 14.4V in order to be compatible? Is there a reliable link at lenovo that lists compatible battery models for my system? Thanks.

either 4 cells or 8 cells battery will work in the x200t, the 9 cells one is for the x200 and x200s.

I have a client that uses SCCM '07 to deploy OS images to computers over the network. This seems to work great for the vast majority of systems that they have. Here's a quick run down of the problem: Computer information imported into SCCMDrivers imported into SCCM, NIC and HDD drivers added to boot image Task Sequence created and advertised to collection for OS deploymentPXE boot from the tablet works fine and even loads the WinPE imageRight at the point when the Task Sequences should show up, the system reboots automatically I suspect that there is a problem with the drivers being used in the boot image. Currently, they are using Intel(R) ESB2 SATA AHCI Controller drivers, version 8.2.4.1007 which is applicable to the Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller in use by the X200 Tablet. Two other versions (8.2.4.1005 and 8.2.4.1001) have also been tried without success. They will be purchasing more X200s very soon and need to have this problem solved quickly. Any thoughts?

Answer:X200 Tablet, OSD in SCCM '07

I had a similar issue yesterday.  This is due to a network driver needed in the boot image in addition to a Driver Package.  If you put your boot image into debug mode right now you will see that at about that time the device reboots the NIC flakes out.  Which is weird because it seems to have the right stuff to get that far.  But I imported the newest driver associated with the x200 from Lenovo and updated my x86 boot image and it worked great.

Question: X200 Tablet boot

Hello, I have a Thinkpad X200 Tablet running windows 7. When I trun it on it takes about 20-30 mins to boot up. After booting up it work just fine no problems at all. So, I want to know what is causing this problem, is it a hrdware issue of a software issue. Thanks in advance, AbuFares

Answer:X200 Tablet boot

This may not be your issue, but there is a documented problem with the X200T of a "slow boot" (60-90 sec) when started with the lid closed (external monitor/keyboard attached). The problem was recently resolved with a bios update (3.14-1.06). However, the delay was not 20-30 mins. Until the bios were updated, the work-around was to open the lid, which kick-started the boot process. Suggest checking to ensure you have most current bios/drivers. ~ Ken
