I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: ThinkPad Tablet Digitizer Pen

Listed under Programs/ThinkVantage. You may select Access Help. On the "General" tab select Tablet Mode. That should get you started.

Twice now, my Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet Digitizer Pen - stylus has dropped out of the tablet only to be found later on my family room floor.   Given the expensive price tag on these pens (Office Depot has for $65), it would be nice if these pens could be locked into place so that they don't come up "missing" for whatever reason.   Has anyone else found a way to keep better track of their pen, short of not putting it in the holder on the tablet? Joe

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet Digitizer Pen - stylus

Have you tried to tether it to your tablet?  There is a hole in the stylus clip and the tablet that you can use.  Beyond that, you can send it in to have the stylus catch replaced and see if that helps.

The actually drivers are installed. The pen function is ok. But only in the "Notebook-Modus". I tested it.. when I am turning the Notebook in the Tablet-Modus AND THE KEYBOARD IS INSIDE, the pen function doesn't work and I have to reboot. When I reboot in the Tablet Modus it also doesn't work. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE????????? Thank you soooo much. David

Well, I've finally had it. I've had my 6365 CTO X60 tablet pc for over a year now and last Monday I lost pen functionality in tablet pc mode in the afternoon after working fine in the morning. It works fine, even now after rotating the screen back to laptop mode. As soon as the screen is rotated back to tablet pc mode, no pen functionality but the mouse still works fine so I know it's functional in laptop mode but rotate back, all ok!  I did uninstall the Wacom drivers, restart, and then downloaded the tablet pc, windows xp version drivers from the wacom.com site as instructed in a previous post. Unfortunately, the digitizer pen is still disabled in tablet pc mode and works fine when rotated back to laptop mode. I've called Lenovo tech support in Atlanta four times now and they've been totally useless. I wiped out my X60 tablet last Friday and used Rescue and Recovery to reinstall the operating system back to it's factory settings. I went back and unistalled and reinstalled the Wacom driver. Nothing. Since that didn't work either I've requested the box to ship this back to the Memphis Depot. Hopefully, I'll just get a new replacement machine that works but I'm so angry and frustrated w/ Lenovo's support because it's obvious that the people on the phone are not tech specialists and they couldn't even point me in a direction to get this fixed. It's cost me over a week now wo... Answer:X60 tablet pc digitizer pen functionality disabled in tablet pc mode

Problem solved! While the support folks weren't able to fix the problem over the phone, they did overnite me a prepaid return box which I sent back that day. Two days later they overnited my X60 tablet back fixed with a note saying 'LCD enabled'. I'm impressed how quickly they got my tablet pc back up and running. I'm glad I got that 3-yr. support warranty because I usually opt out of those things. This totally paid for itself. I just wish I hadn't been so reluctant to send back my laptop because I do need it for work and I figured I wouldn't get it back for at least a week or longer. I was so frustrated and pessimistic that I forgot sometimes these problems do get fixed in a very satisfactory manner. It's too bad the initial steps that led to sending it back were so painful. Bottom line: Lenovo fixed my pc quickly, no questions asked. Thanks!

I have a Thinkpad X41 Tablet and my digitizer pen is stuck in the computer and won't release.  Does anyone know how to solve this problem.

Answer:Tablet Digitizer Pen

It depends on where it is stuck.  Sometimes you can separate the keyboard bezel from the lower case, just slightly, and the pen will come out.  You can also use tweezers to see if you can grap the pen clip and pull it out.

Hi All, I'm new to the forum and did a search. I could not find the answer to this question and was hoping someone had the answer to my question. When doing dual screens, with display port plugged in, and do extended monitor; i find that my digitizer/touch tries to work on both screens. is there a way to only have the digitizer work on the screen with the actual touch screen / digitizer sensor on it. I bought the x220 tablet thinking I could have an extended monitor on a book, or presentation, while my tablet could be on one note taking notes on the tablet. I know a possible "solution" could be why don't I print it up to one note, and mark it up there. I like to outline on a different page it helps me remember the content I?m reading. Thank you your help is very much appreciated.

Answer:X220 Tablet + Dualscreen + Digitizer

Bump for some help.  If any one is unclear about what I'm talking about its when you have your laptop connected to another monitor, and try to use the digitizer / pen for just the laptop it trys to work on the other screen; but it also makes it impossible to write notes too. I am hoping someone figured out some setting that needs to be selected. Much Thanks.

(Handwritten, that is)
I am new to digital saving of handwriting and writing on a screen, have no need to draw anything, just taking notes from meetings and such. I understand it could work with MS Onenote or similar software
Should I wait for the optimal future 8 incher with Wacom support? Or could I achieve sufficient results with any type of stylus?
Thanks

Answer:Do I need a digitizer to take notes on my future tablet?

In my opinion an active stylus is the best stylus. Wacom is the best from what I hear. I have one on my tablet. Love it. It is nice being able to rest your palm on the screen without it messing things up. It makes digital handwriting natural. There is a "Asus Note 8" tablet I believe it is called that is 8 inches and has Wacom support. It comes with the Stylus. It was just released today from the Microsoft store online. But from articles I have read it has sold out rather quickly.

The title pretty much says it all. I got inspired by the recent article concerning the 5 best tablets for note-taking, which can be found here: Some great Windows tablets for note-taking | Windows Central
Being a student, my budget isn't very high. I would like pressure sensitivity, as it seems to allow for a more accurate writing experience. Therefore, the Asus VivoTab Note 8 seemed the way to go. I don't care much for the latest processor, it needs to run OneNote just fine and that's basically it.
However, since I'm from The Netherlands or Europe so to speak, availability of all the options isn't that high and prices are far from friendly. I could not find a decent offering in NL, but amazon.de got them around 200.
?But before ordering I would like to either test it or find somewhat more decent reviews (WCentral doesn't have one?).
?So in conclusion:
?-Do you know any cheap note-taking Windows tablets with active digitizers?
-Price?
?-Availability in Europe/NL?
?Cheers,
Tiemen

Answer:Best cheap tablet with active digitizer (+ stylus presumably)

Word of caution, I owned the Note 8 for some time and there was an issue with the calibration. Granted, I was an early adopter and the issue may have been fixed through an update already but the problem was that the digitizer simply would not register taps near the edges when in portrait mode. I use Windows Journal quite a bit to take handwritten notes on the go and this tablet could never write on the lines well. I got used to "aiming" higher on the display to get my text to fall on the lines but I'd hate to see a student like yourself with limited resources not get what you need. Best of luck.

First, allow me to say I'm ignorant when it comes to this whole 'stylus' support issue. I've heard people lament about how this tablet has Wacom digitizer support but that one doesn't, and this one has some other type of stylus support, etc. I don't really understand what you geniuses are talking about because everyone complained about how the Surface Pro had some type of stylus support but the Surface RT did not, but then I went to a Microsoft store and an employee was showing off a stylus that seemed to work quite well on the Surface RT, so I couldn't figure out what all the fuss was about. So, if you have time, please explain to me the different types of styluses and the pros and cons behind them
Second, as I didn't know much about styluses I didn't really care much, but just last night I found myself wanting to draw a diagram in Office on my tablet and thinking, "huh, I bet this is where a stylus would come in handy." Now, I'm in the market for a new 2-in-1 device and so I would much appreciate recommendations on which devices support what kind of stylus and why that's good or bad.
Here is a list of devices that piqued my interest, but I'm more than happy to check out any others not on this list that you recommend:Surface 2Surface Pro 2Lenovo Yoga 2 ProSony Tap 11Dell XPS 11Dell XPS 12Dell Venue Pro 11

Answer:Which 2-in-1 tablet/ultrabooks have what kind of digitizer stylus support?

Come on now, all I read in all of the other threads debating the merits and demerits of this season's 2-in-1 devices like the Surface Pro 2 were all about stylus support, so surely you stylus aficionados have something to contribute here. Pretty please?

Good day. I purchased a manufacturer refurbished ThinkPad X220t  with warranty for one year. The laptop came with a factory seal. When I turn on a notebook,  the operating system(win 7 Prof 64bit) automatically install. At the end of installation in device manager  all devices have been identified and worked fine.  But in computer details in the "system" was written ?No Pen or Touch Input is available for this display?. Then I installed all the drivers on a laptop from Lenovo website again and again. That did not help. Then I reinstalled windows (win 7 Prof 32bit). That did not help. Previously, I had two X200t and when I installed windows 7, the digitizer immediately was detected, for the good work of  the touchscreen it was necessary to install drivers. But the situation with the X220 for me incomprehensible. Explain what I did wrong. The type of ThinkPad printed on the back label is 4294-CTR(in BIOS the type is 4294-CTO).

I broke my hinge a few weeks ago when I was packing up to leave class (which is indicative of the poor lenovo build/engineering quality that I've come to expect). The pen stopped working (even after I installed the wacom drivers I still get code 10 - the device cannot start). The buttons on the tablet don't work (orientation, esc, arrows, etc.). The fingerprint reader does not work. The laptop does not recognize the screen's orientation (open/closed/tablet). Most of the LED indicators do not function (System power and hard drive activity work, but NUM/CAPS lock, wifi, battery, plug, and sleep do not). I opened the laptop and replaced the hinge. I also replaced all the wiring (as it seemed like it might be damaged by the broken hinge) to the lcd assembly and the inverter card (it came with the wiring assembly). New hinge works great, but the features are all still gone. Is this a problem with my microprocessor board? (Item 14 - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67024) I'm guessing that it is... Is there a high probability that I need a new lcd assembly? I don't really understand the interplay between the inverter board, the fingerprint reader, the digitizer, and the microprocessor board. Does anyone here know? EDIT: 7764CTO, Vista Business (fresh install)Message Edited by jcy6h on 03-21-2009 10:16 AM

I have a X201 Tablet had always worked well.Yesterday suddenly the screen became completely black.I connected to the external LCD monitor and the computer works perfectly. But the internal monitor not. At least as a monitor.I can not see anything in the screen not even in backlight. But I can use the digitizer on screen... Namely if I touch the screen with the pen it makes me mouse. It seems strange because I was convinced it was a matter of cables. What can it be?Should be the illuminator? I think not, because in this case should be seen vaguely. Is that correct? Then I thought, or the display itself or cables that connect to the main board?I opened but everything seems to be ok. What is more likely is.I would like to understand it before you buy spare parts useless. How can I test which of the components is?I hope someone can help me,Thanks in advance

I've seen several threads about this issue, but none that address my specific concern.

I have a ThinkPad Yoga 14. It did not come with a digitizer pen included. However, I suspect that the screen does in fact have a Wacom digitizer layer. My rationale is this:

My computer came pre-installed with the Wacom Pen Calibration Software
Device Manager reports the following HID devices:-- HID-compliant digitizer-- HID-compliant pen-- Wacom Device
When I run the Wacom Hardware Check (available here), it reports "You have hardware compatible with the Wacom FEEL driver."
All of the 20DM008 models listed at http://psref.lenovo.com/Product/179 support the active pen (I cannot find the 20DM008U++ model there for some reason)

However, the computer will not recognize the ThinkPad digitizer pen I purchased.

So, I suppose I have three questions:

Am I just misinterpreting what I am seeing in the Device Manager?
Is it possible that Lenovo installs the Wacom screen on all it's tablets, but disables them somehow on models not marketed as digitizer ready?
If so, is there any way for me to enable my screen to allow for digitizer use?

Good day.

Looking at the models that support pen at the PSREF link you included, please notice that it specifies "Active Pen". This is not the same as the ThinkPad Digitizer Pen. That's why it won't work for you.

You need the newer, AAAA battery-powered Active Pen. Apologies, but I don't have a link for it.

Hi, welcome to the forums.

I can only talk from my experience.  I have ThinkPad Pen Pro 4X80H34887 on my Thinkpad Yoga 14 ( 20DM008UUS ).
http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/itemdetails/4X80H34887/460/41E9A3C3FB5A45A9AC47C56812E4188C

For what I know (I may be wrong) the Pen Pro uses Wacom technology, it has a battery inside. I found it very nice with a nice size... but it depends on personal taste.

Can you post the full model number of the computer you want to check it will work with the pen?
I know that the Thinkpad Pen Pro web page may not say much. So, what I saw it was recomended on this forum was:
1) Check your computer model against the PSRef Books: http://psref.lenovo.com/
See if your model is listed with "Active Pen" support.

2) There is more information about the Thinkpad Pen Pro here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/acc100178

There is also the Thinkpad Yoga Pen , but I don't have experience with that one, some amazon review says it does not have batteries and it focus for replacement for Thinkpad Yoga that came with pen... but I don't know.

Hi, After working out that my laptop (Thinkpad Yoga S1) most likely has a digitizer, I purchased a pen for it. However, since I wasn't 100% sure, I bought a cheaper, off-brand pen that people said was compatible, the listing for which can be found here. I received it today, but my computer seems unresponsive when I try to use it. When I went to Wacom Pen or Pen and Touch Input, the pen calibration screens were either blank (Wacom) or didn't load (Input). Is there something else I have to do to make my pen work? Did I purchase the wrong pen? If it helps, the pen slot on my computer is still plugged; I was going to unplug it, but to do so I'd have to remove the back paneling, and one of the screws keeping it in place has been stripped. The thread confirming that my laptop has a digitizer is here. Thanks!

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga digitizer pen

Hi

Please notice that this is my personal opinon and it does not mean I'm 100% right, this is based on my experience.

I think that the "Digitizer PEN for Lenovo ThinkPad X60 X61 X200 X201" is for older Thinkpad models. I have a Thinkpad Yoga 14 (Similar to S1) (20DM008UUS) and it has a digitizer screen, but it requires an "active pen" (with batteries inside) to be able to work with the digitizer.

I have the Thinkpad Pen Pro and it works fine with my model. I still think you have a digitizer on your laptop but I think it is the wrong pen.

Here it also some more info about the pen that Amy wrote.

I have a problem where the digitizer pen interittently stops working on the yoga S1 - win8.1 x64 with all updates applied.I can re-create the issue by folding the screen from normal mode to  tablet mode, then normal mode , then tablet mode. At this point, the pen susually stops working. I can get it to come back to life sometimes if i wait a minute, or if i go to power settings and apply / un apply something or by restart. It sounds like a driver issue to me - and possiby power management drivers - triggered by swithcing to tablet mode.I have tried max perfromance, min power savings etc to stop the screen driver being starved of power, have disabled sleep and hibernation. Done multiple driver re-installs, but no difference. Sometimes restarting the drivers relating to the pen and touch screen bring it back to life. But it should not die in the first place. Anyone else have this or do i have a hardware issue?

Hello, I just received my new shiny TPY (again). The first time I got it, the digitizer wasn't working. After a bit of research I realized that it probably was a hardware issue (No digitizer, pen or wacom device in device-manager). So I send it back. The mainboard got replaced and today I have my machine back. It was all working fine including the digitizer. But from one minute to the other it stopped working and I can't find any wacom or digitizer devices in the device-manager.Now my first thought was, that the Windows updates messed something up, so I've done a rollback but it's still not working.Am I doing something wrong or is it a hardware issue again? Thanks for advance.Robinhuett

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga - Digitizer is not working

Hello. It isn't a Hardware Problem. It seems to be a software problem after Windows 8.1 Update. I have the same problem :-( When I start the PC it works perfect, until I used it as Tablet. After that the Digitizer Pen didn't work. So I reinstalled all drivers. After that the pen worked.. so I tested it again as Tablet, after that. the Digitizer Pen didn't work. Now I installed all drivers again but the Pen didn't worked. It is a big problem at Lenovo, because Lenovo has problems with the pen software a long time. It is soooo sad because I love the Thinkpad Yoga but with this Problem the price isn't acceptable. So I am going to send it back and wait for the Surface Pro 3. Because Thinkpad stands for the perfect Business Notebook and now... Lenovo has with the digitizer pen more problems than all others. And this is very sad :-(

I learned that the digitizer with Helix cannot be used as an eraser, does the ThinkPad Yoga digitizer have the same problem? Thanks

Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga Digitizer Question

the digitiser pen on Helix, TPT2 and Yoga all lack the traditional eraser function of the traditional ThinkPad X series tablet. There is a side button on the digitiser pen, which you can use for eraser function. Alternatively, get the X series tablet digitiser pen which has an eraser function, they work with the ThinkPad Yoga (and is what i am using now).

I just purchased a refurbished Thinkpad S1 Yoga from outlet. The description mentioned nothing about coming with a pen or having digitizer compatibility although these descriptions are generally not very detailed to begin with. I was reading that some of these machines (FHD) with the same specs as mine don't come with a pen nor  compatibility and am not sure if those two features can exist separately.  I think the newer versions all have both. Is there a way to tell if mine's compatible or not? I don't think it will come with a pen and I don't want to open the box before finding out. Part number if it helps: MP053KKL-20CDCTR1WW Thanks.

Ok so i just recieved a thinkpad yoga S1. The one i got was the one without the digitizer pen automatically installed into the computer's side. The pen came separately and its the exact same one as the one used with the version that comes with the pen. I dont know the product code or even what its called. Which driver do i install and how can i register the product? Also, since the version i have has like a little black piece where the digitizer normally goes is there any way i can take it out and be able to accomodate the pen that came seperatly?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga S1 digitizer help

I think there is only two options it either comes with the pen or it doesn't. The one that doesn't have the pen built into it doesn't support the pen because of the panel used. That is waht I remember when I was researching into this unit.

Hello everyone, I'm in the market for a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga for work. It needs to have the digitizer pen/panel. How do I determine if the model has a digitizer pen/panel? Is a 1080p panel enough to determine it? I'm looking at stores online and they don't really list this information. Thanks in advance

Other than routine updates, I have done no major downloads, restores or changes to my ThinkPad Yoga and suddenly the pen is completely unresponsive. As a digital painter this is incredibly frustrating. I have NO IDEA where to begin trouble shooting this problem. Please HALP.

Hey guys!I am looking forward to buy this beauty here: http://shopap.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/thinkpad/yoga-series/yoga-14/ it's the second one with the 256 GB ssd and i7.I already asked this question to the Facebook Page of Lenovo Australia and New Zealand, but the guys there didn't get it.Does this particular laptop come with a wacom digitizer? So could I use, let's say, a wacom intuos pen to draw, make sketches and write notes?I asked the guys on Facebook if the laptop comes with an active digitizer layer, but all they answered was "it doesn't come with an active pen". They didn't answer on my second question whether or not if it comes at least with a wacom digitizer. That's why I signed up here Thanks for your help!

Maybe i should add that I already looked up the details on the sales page and all it says is: "Active pen: none"

Hi, Could somebody please point me to the place where it list the digitizer in the Thinkpad Yoga as a Wocom? I see it all over in review sites, but I can't find it in the description or the product specifications. I'm interested in this model:20CD00AVUS, which I know includes a digitizer, but I want to make sure its definitely Wacom... they all just say "digitizer". So I guess what I am trying to figure out is:1. Are ALL digitizers installed in Thinkpad Yoga's the same, or do they vary in brand/quality?2. How can I find out if its a Wacom? Thanks for the help.

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga - Wacom Digitizer?

First off the digitizer technology consists of two parts the digitizer enabled screen and the digitizer pen. Second i'd say all the TPYs have the same digitizer Technology (both screen and pen) licensed from Wacom. So the pen itself is probably prdouced by Lenovo or a third party. --- By the way other products like the Surface Pro, Vaio Duo or Galaxy Note have the same technology built in and you can use there respective digitizer pens for the TPY as well.

So like I do from time to time, I'm configuring a Thinkpad Yoga to mull over (window shopping until I can afford one) when I notice that there's no mention of a digitizer or pen functionality any more, anywhere. Did something happen to it? Pen support was a deal breaker for me.

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga - Digitizer not available anymore??

I noticed this missing info too when ordering my custom ThinkPad Yoga, so at checkout I added pen from the optional accessories. When my laptop arrived, it came with two pens! One inside the laptop package, and another in separate box. I suppose it might be their website issue or country-specific supply issue.

Hello,I just bought a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 12 (20DL000SIX) that does not come with the pen apparently (I still have to receive it physically), but *does* have the full HD capacitive screen multitouch (1920 x 1080).I also bought separately the Thinkpad Yoga digitizer pen (4X80F22110).I spent a lot of time to understand if the two are compatible (i.e. the wacom digitizer is installed or not on the laptop), and on Lenovo website, following Products -> Accessories&Software -> Search For Compatible Accessories For Your System, it looks that indeed they are:http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:find-compati... I see that there are multiple posts on similar issue, confirming that the communication of Lenovo about pens and digitizer is really inadequate.I read in many places that the thinkpad yoga's that don't come with the pen do *not* have the digitizer. I also read that the full HD screens does have te digitizer. So, I'm getting confused...: my yoga does have the full HD but does not come with the pen included! There is no clear information anywhere and also the Lenovo  support (I called on the phone many times) is not satisfactive on this.Does anyone have the same model, or have a more clear idea on this topic? Thanks!Giulia

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 12: digitizer? (20DL000SIX)

Hi giulsi

I also agree with you on this subject. There is much confusion with the "pens" on Thinkpad Yogas.
I think that Lenovo should specify better on the webpage (shop) which Thinkpad Yoga came with Active Pen, and on the Pen pages (also on the shop page) they should specify which models apply for it, and where to search if you computer has support for it.

How to know if you Thinkpad Yoga is Pen Compatible?
For the moment one thing that works to know if your Thinkpad is "Pen Compatible" is to search on the PSRef books.
http://psref.lenovo.com/
or
http://psref.lenovo.com/Book

I searched your model:
http://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/ThinkPad_Yoga_12?M=20DL000S%2B%2B
It says it has:

Pen
Digitizer pen

So that's good......
There are other models that says "Active Pen".. not sure if that means it only works with the "Thinkpad Pen Pro" or not.

How to resolve the question of which pen is good for you?
Thinkpad Yoga Pen suppor page:
https://support.lenovo.com/ec/es/documents/pd030464
It says "The ThinkPad Yoga Pen supports the ThinkPad Yoga." So it may also work.

I'm guessing that it will work, but please post back when you get your pen to see if it works with your model.
Regards

I've read that the 20cd0032us and 33us Thinkpad Yoga models are the only ones without an active digitizer.  However, this appears to be all that is for sale on Amazon and other places.  Any idea of where you can but a Thinkpad Yoga with an active digitizer??

They are only available on Lenovo's website as far as I've seen. I tried looking other places like Amazon, too, but haven't seen the digitizer model. I ended up buying one directly.

Hi everyone. I am looking to buy a laptop for university (studying engineering). I would like something that is durable, and powerful. Thats why I am looking into getting the Thinkpad Yoga. I love the convertable and compact feel, as well as the SSD that I will be getting with it.  However, another reason why I wanted to get it is because of the 'Active Digitzer'. I didn't even know what this was called since a week ago, and I still cant seem to understand what this feature will allow me to do? How does the Digitzer benefit me? Especially when I compare it to the Yoga Pro 2 (even tough that also has a touchscreen). Am I unable to draw on a YP2? Would I not be able to draw on the screen? I want to use it mainly when I use Adobe Illutrator. Is the Digitzer option worth the extra money I have to pay? With that feature added on, I will be paying almost $2000 :s

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga: Is it worth it and Digitizer?

Hi there: I have been using X230T, a predessor of Thinkpad Yoga. X230T also comes with a digitizer. I bought X23)T also for a reason: I can take note during class. I am not an engineer but a finance student. 1. You might want an Active Digitizer because it allows you to write on-screen. Use Microsoft One Note. Your computer can replace your pen and paper.2. You can still draw on YP2. But what do you feel when you use your finger, say your pointer, as a pen  YP2 does not have a digitizer pen. 3. The pen I believe is included. You do not have to pay extra unless you want to have a spare one. 4. I think Lenovo Thinkpad has lost its quality legacy from IBM. I do not like the new layout of the keyboard (I like the trackpoint but the moust click now share with the trackpad. It is just ridiculous. You cannot have an accurate click with it (for me))5. Just look at the Microsoft new Surface pro 3. You might like it! If the next time I upgrade my computer, I would by a Surface pro instead of the Thinkpad.   Cheers

Answer:ibm thinkpad x41 1866-cxu digitizer pen not working

Couple of questions for you: 1) How did you reinstall windows? Did you use the IBM Recovery CDs *, Reload the OS with F11 *,  or install a market version of XP Tablet? * I'd highly recommend using the original IBM image to ensure there are no issues with drivers!! 2) Did you update all the Tablet drivers? If not, go to this website to install the driver: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-60154 You may want to also use the ThinkVantage System Update Tool to check for missing drivers (Start->Programs->ThinkVantage->System Update) - If you don't have our original preload installed, download this utility from here:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=TVSU-UPDATE This should at least get you started. Best,Mark

Hi all, My issue is that one day while my laptop was on the bed, it fell onto the floor and I think it broke in half, with the screen assembly seperating partially from the mainboard. I wasn't worried at the time because it seemed like a minor fall, and the computer stayed on and was fine. I snapped the two back together, expecting that nothing was wrong -- but then I noticed the digitizer had stopped working. I turned off and popped open the computer to see if anything inside was visibly damaged. Everything looked fine. It's been a while now, but having been fed up with it, I popped it open and re-checked all the connections to make sure they were tight. It *seems* to me that the digitizer cable may have been folded too aggressively and developed a kink? I could also be seeing something that isn't there. I'm thinking of replacing it, but I don't want to waste $30 for no reason. What could the problem be? Why would what appears to be a perfectly intact and functional digitizer suddenly become absolutely and completely unresponsive? Thanks!

Hi I hope someone can help me. I have had my S1 for about 10 months now and i have had no issues with the pen and using it. I used the pen last weekend in lectures, taking notes with no issues or problems and have gone to use it today, as part of my assignment, and it just isn't working at all. It doesn't matter if its in laptop, tent or tablet mode, i get no resposne from the pen at all. I have had a look in the device manager and have no issue notifications, but likewise, i can't locate anythingthat i think looks like the digital pen drivers (nothing Wacom in there). I have searched around the forums and o-line and can't seem to find anything that might help me. Have even searched, without finding, how to unistall and re-install the Wacom drivers. If anyone has any suggestions on how to diagnose and resolve this problem i would be really happy to receive them. many thanks for your help Chris

Hi, Today (or last night, not sure) three columns of my TPY 460's digitizer seem to have stopped working. Two of them are right next to each other, the third one a little further to the right. (I'm guessing the number of columns by the distance of the small dots that you can see on the display when you look at it from an angle). When I tap the pen onto the two defective columns, nothing happens, when I drag it across, it stops on one side and then jumps to the other. It's similar for the single column, but there isn't a complete stop and a jump, more of a non-linearity, the cursor moves slower, then faster, then slower again. For finger touch, the problem is similar. Is this a common problem that can be fixed by properly plugging  some cables or should I return the computer? (It's a demopool device, so I have no warranty, but I can return it within two weeks without a reason).

Hey, just in case someone is interested in pressure sensitivity for the Thinkpad Yoga.Try this driver from wacom ;-)http://www.wacom.eu/index4.asp?pid=9278&lang=de This morning I had a phone call with the Lenovo Support Europe regarding the subject, but all they were able was to tell me to send my brand new Yoga in. I can not tell you how disappointed I am from this support. They are hardly to understand and they know nothing!!! As an early adopter of the Thinkpad Tablet 1 this was not my first experience with them and the only reason to buy the Yoga was that there is no alternative for my kind of usage. Nevertheless I found the solution by my self and I can't tell you how happy I am. Not to be misunderstood, this is a problem of the european support I don't believe (or hope) that it is the same with the US support and especially the Lenovo Staff in this forum does a really good job!

hi guys i really want to try a windows 8 tablet and i plan to buy it either by the end of this month or by next January. I am confused on what to pick though
First of all, the reason why I want a windows 8 tablet IS because i like the interface. but more importantly, i need metatrader and cTrader in legacy app as im a full time forex trader. I have metatrader in my iphone but you cant seriously compare that with the windows version (no tabbing, no lines drawing, no fibonacci, etc.). cTrader doesnt even exist there.
im looking to replace my macbook pro (which btw i also installed windows 8 on it through parallels virtual desktop) with a windows 8 tablet to support my trading while im outside
So basically I dont need a super i7 tablet or something. However, im curious to know how windows 8 atom tablets perform. I have seen enough reviews and some people says atom tablets perform badly in legacy apps. Question is, how bad is that bad? Does it lag so bad even though i dont need to run heavy apps like adobe? I only need to run these trading apps which btw are very light. You can compare them with MS paint i believe, just with constant connection.
would it do well in atom tablets? I dont want lags when i switch from win8 native apps to metatrader and cTrader.
next question - how does windows 8 tablet on-screen keyboard work with legacy apps? Would i have special gesture to show up the on-screen keyboard or it automatically appears when i touch the screen? I personally dont believe ... Read more

Hello all, apologies if this is a duplicate issue, but my searches did not turn anything up. I just received my new TPY a couple of days ago and have been happily installing software. Today was the first time I really tried using my digitizer pen, as I finally had time to open Photoshop and Illustrator. In doing so, however, I discovered pen calibration is completely messed up for the top edge of the screen. I tested it outside of the Adobe programs and the same problems occur there. I have already gone in and tried recalibrating my pen more than once using the calibration tools in the Control Panel. Is this a known issue that I just need a driver update for or is this a hardware issue? Any help is appreciated. Thanks,Erika

I have just purchased the ThinkPad Yoga. I was wondering if there is a way to change what "handedness" you on when using the digitizer pen. I am left handed and the pen is obvioulsy configured to be used with your right hand. So when I write using the pen the writing and the pen tip to not match up like it is supposed to. It matches perfectly if I were to write something with my right hand but when I use my left hand, the writing is off (as in the letters do not match up to where I wanted to write them) Any information on this would be great, kind of anoying for trying to add notes in class. Thanks

I had a large diet soda dumped on me while I was riding the train to work, it got all over my laptop bag and I thought my helix was spared, I got most of the liquid off the bag and wiped the helix down the best I could at the time, I didn't see anything later that night when I got home.   However a day or so later, I noticed what appeared to be some liquid trapped between the digitizer and LCD, 2 small bubbles in the corner of the screen.  I could probably live with it, but I know me and this will drive me crazy knowing it is there.   A friend suggested putting the helix tablet in a bag of dry white rice for a few days to see if that draws out the moisture.  I guess my question is, what are my options if this doesn't work?   Live with it, or replace the LCD and digitizer in one go?   How difficult/expensive a proposition is this likely to be?   I'm especially mad since I can't afford to replace the whole helix, to buy a similarly specced device is cost prohibitive, unless I buy refurb and even then I don't want to spend quite that much money.

The screen and digitizer are one part. The screen is unlikely to be fixed by packing with rice. What is the model? Screen resolution?

Today my digitizer stopped working for the first time since I purchased my Thinkpad Yoga several years ago. Touch screen still works as normal. I don't think it's software related because I dual boot Windows and Ubuntu and it doesn't work in either operating system. Before it would work in both operating systems, and I haven't had any updates since it was last working. Is it possible for the digitizer itself to be broken somehow? I haven't dropped the device or spilled any liquid on it. I've read elsewhere on the forum that the digitizer is powered by a capacitor that is charged within the laptop. Is this still true for Thinkpad Yogas? Are there steps I can take to diagnose the issue?

Hi friends, I just received my X200 tablet. My digitizer pen doesn't seem to function properly. The pen tip moves the cursor around but it only 'selects' thing on screen. The eraser however does what I expect the pen tip to do. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong here. Please help! The tablet has Vista 32 on it currently. Thanks,Karma

Answer:X200 Tablet digitizer pen stylus only selects and eraser behaves like stylus

I reached out to the tech support. I'll receive a new pen in a few days. I hope its just a pen issue.

The screen on my Thinkpad X201 mysteriously cracked one day, but the multi-touch, pen digitizer and LCD all still function perfectly. The only problem is the glass on top. Is there a part # for this or is it easy to replace without having to replace the entire LCD/digitizer part?

Answer:Thinkpad X201: Matte glass cracked but LCD/digitizer perfectly fine, easy to replace?

The digitizer is glued to the LCD making replacement of just one of the two parts nearly impossible. Brad

I wanted to give my impressions of the Lenovo TPT2. First off, the model I have is the 3679-27U, this means that it has the digitizer pen, windows 8 pro, no NFC, no 3G/4G antenna (though there is a slot for a SIM card). Let me also be frank about my biases concerning tablets. I am not a voracious media consumer. If Im going to watch a movie or TV program I prefer to do so with a large screen TV in the comfort of my living room. As far as checking email, messaging, twitter, and facebook that is why I have a smartphone. Why do I need another piece of electronic equipment that does the exact same thing as my smartphone? In my opinion iPADs and Android tablets are really only good for media consumption, they give you a slightly larger screen to run the same apps that your phone runs. If Im going to buy a tablet it has to provide some functionality that my phone or laptop cannot, otherwise it is a waste of money. Therefore, a tablet had to be able to run productivity programs: MS Office, Photoshop, Illustrator, GB-Stats, etc That meant a tablet using either the Atom processor or a Core processor (i3, i5). This left out not only Apple and Android but also any tablets running Windows 8 RT. Obviously one the major advantages of a tablet is its size and portability. My laptop is a comfortable size and fairly easy to carry around, so what advantage would a tablet give me. The answer is battery life. In order to be practical I would need a laptop with a significantly longer run time tha... Read more

Answer:The Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2: Everything a tablet should be

Nice review. I have had my TPT2 for a little over a month now. I have used it extensively as my only device away from the office and have been able to do so without adjusting my computing needs too much. The only drawback that I have had is an under-powered USB port where i am unable to attach my external hard drive. Anything that I knew I was going to need for the day or trip I load onto a USB stick and problem averted.
Edit: I suppose I should mention that my usage is not too intense in terms of productivity. My programs of choice are typically the Microsoft Office package. I do a lot with excel, word, and power point and so far, I haven't run into any issues. I'm in the process of getting a new monitor for home and i'll have a better idea what it's like running a multiple monitor setup from the TPT2 and mini HDMI to HDMI connection. At this point I have a BT keyboard and Mouse which I have been using for the past few days with no issues (except when the battery is close to dying in the keyboard and it behaves as if it is possessed).
I might be one of the lucky ones but haven't had any issues with the wifi signal, sleep issues others have experienced, etc. Outside of the USB and mini HDMI to VGA issues, I'm still completely satisfied. If Wacom could update the drivers to enhance the accuracy of pen input, then I'd be completely satisfied given my particular usage patterns.

Question: Thinkpad Tablet 2

Anyone else looking at the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2? I'm excited about this device. I love the pen and want a Windows 8 pro device. I have concerns about it running an atom processor and how well it will really run. I am not a huge power user but do use photoshop, generally minor edits but... I wonder if I'd be better off waiting for Surface Pro but don't really want to wait 3 months.
Any thoughts on this tablet? Anyone looking to buy it? Anyone know release date for it?
Thanks :)

Thanks :) Beck... Im looking at this Tablet specifically too for all the same reasons. I'm also comparing vs the Surface Pro. The main things I like about SUrface Pro are Kickstand, touch cover/keyboard and the 1080p display.
But... it weighs 2 pounds vs the Thinkpad at 1.3 lbs. While I wan to e able to run Pro I also want to use this to read, watch videos, etc... so I dont want anything that is too uncomfortable to hold for long periods of time.
I think I read it will be released at launch, so hopefully this Friday. Im hoping its carried in stores so I can at least see it before buying.

I have an IBM ThinkPad X41 that was issued to me from work. I would like to reinstall the operating system to get rid of all the garbage that's on it. But, they don't have the CD's that came with the laptop. The COA on the bottom of the X41 is for WinXP Pro Tablet Edition. But, I don't have a copy in the office and they can't find it anywhere. Should I install Windows XP Professional on it or should I somehow contact IBM for the CD's to be reissued?

Any ideas???

Thanks!

If I were to pull the trigger on a Windows tablet, I think that would be it. Seems like a great compromise of price, performance and features.
I'm keen on Windows RT, but Win 8 would be even better if they can keep the price down and get the battery life up, which it looks like the did with the TPT 2 pretty well with the Atom processor.
Atom seems like a perfect solution because it's able to run Win 8 and it will outperform any ARM SoC and at the same time the newest Atom can just about match the ARM for battery life.
I think the perfect storm will be when the "Bay Trail" Atom's come out later this year. It should mark the first really major upgrade for the Atom architecture. They will have quad core versions, much better onboard graphics and out-of-order execution (the lack of this is probably the biggest reason Atom's real-world performance falls so far short of better processors)
So... NOKIA.. give me a Win 8 tabelt with that Bay Trail Atom in it for under $700 and I will run to the store with a wad of sweaty $100's in my hand the day it goes on sale.
Questions? Comments?

Answer:Thinkpad Tablet 2 looks good

The only potential gotcha is if you ever need to use Hyper-V, say for playing with the Windows Phone 8 emulator, you will be out of luck on an Atom. Curious, since the AMD equivalent runs Hyper-V just fine.
Otherwise, other than a little bit of lag when starting up applications and during web browsing, Windows 8 runs just fine on an Atom, even on the current models. (I expect some of the lag I experence on my netbook isdue to using a standard HDD instead of SDD.)
I think you'll be quite happy trading a little speed for more battery life between charges.

X60 Tablet Thinkpad:  Error message:  There was a problem connecting to a critical service.  It is possible that anit-virus or firewall software is blocking the connection.  Also, check to make sure that the TPM device driver is installed and enabled. The above message is the latest in a growing problem.  The unit while under warranty recieved a new motherboard three months ago.  Since the warantee has expired.  From the beginning the validation for the security chip (new follwing the replacement motherboard andlways took too long to validate verify or whatever it did.) this process took about 5 mins originally and now takes short of half and hour. About two weeks ago routine updates began to stop and were experiencing problems with various messages about memory errors.  I remain suspect of the security chip. I tried resotre points and they get a message that I can not restore. I tried turning off the chip via CSS and this seemed to make matters worse. I tried disabling in the bios.  This had no change. I tried reenabling  in the bios and no change. When I try now to enter the "Protect Data" command in CSS I can not get to it as it now want a password which I have never set up.  I tried to go the manage logon passwords and get the same. I am out of my zone and don't know what to do.  Survey says?

Answer:TPM Device - X60 Thinkpad Tablet

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Embedded_Security_Subsystem you could reset the tpm chip, read the whole thing, especially about hhd passwords and bios passwords. i would reseat your ram chips just in case that's part of the problem.  i know that would be just too easy though.

I see a subject line which already asks this question in the knowledgebase, however I can't open the link so I'm asking this question as a duplicate, my apologies in advance..So, basically, is this possible?  I don't see any Win-7 drivers available for the TP Tablet 2.  I'm assuming that Windows 7 isn't supported then, unless I attempt to load the Win-8 drivers on a Win-7 install.I'm quite disappointed with the TP Tablet 2 running Windows 8.  The response times on anything from opening a webpage, changing to another webpage, opening apps, etc is very slow.  I was hoping that if Windows 7 was supported, then I might just get better performance with this tablet however it could just end up with the same performance for all I know.  I won't know until I try but I don't want to go through the install process just to find out that I don't have any driver support for Win-7. I'm thinking that I should have purchased a Helix... TBD... Any feedback would be appreciated, thank you!!!

OK, right now it is more of first thoughts but will post a more thorough review later.
The build quality seems nice and solid to me. No complaints other than a big notice on the back saying "Non Encyrption" which is rather obnoxious and I'm not sure why it is necessary. I thought there was supposed to be a fingerprint reader but I don't see it and am a little surprised as I bought the highest level that was detailed on their site. I need to do more investigation as I'm sure this was an oversite on my part. For some reason the TT2 keyboard and stand is still on backorder which is odd and I'm contacting them today to find out when that should ship. I am fine without it now though as I really plan to use this as a tablet in my workplace but the ke
The initial apps that I loaded all installed fine. Seemed a little slow but not sure how much of that was loading apps for first time or an indication of the processor. The digitzer pen worked well and I also really like using it to click on smaller items (especially in desktop mode). I am going to install office later today/tonight and put it through its paces with OneNote which is really why I bought this device. I will also do a more thorough review on it later tonight and hope that others that have this device will post their reviews and thoughts here as well.
Please let me know if you have any questions or would like me to test any specific app or functionality.

Hi, I hope someone can give me an insight into this issue. I received my new ThinkPad X61 Tablet a couple weeks ago (I have to say, it's been great so far!). However, I've got an issue with the fan assembly in my unit. Not a major issue, but an annoyance nonetheless. Model number/type is 7764 CTO L3-xxxxx The fan underneath the left palmrest seems to be generating excessive noise and vibration. It's not huge, but enough to hear it, noticably, over the notebook playing music. I can feel the vibration when I rest my hand on the palmrest, and the problem is excarbated when the notebook is on a hard surface -- i.e., a desk. This has been an issue since I received the laptop, and is definitely the fan. I suspect the rotor is slightly unbalanced. Now, will Lenovo's EasyServ warranty cover this issue? I realize that it doesn't affect the functionality of the computer, but it is annoying (particularly in my place-of-work). Secondly, if Lenovo will repair it, how long will this take? I have classes starting in three weeks and while I can use a work computer at work, I don't have another computer to use for school. I have a 2-year EasyServ warranty -- if I wait until next summer to get it serviced, (assuming they will service this issue under warranty), will they still do it, considering I knew about the issue but opted to wait to get it fixed? And where would I request this warranty service? I suppose I could live with the problem, but if at all possible, I'd reall... Read more

I downgraded to XP on my brand-new X61 Tablet and when I undock the unit I get the error message "System has recovered from a serious error" at which point a BSOD appears and then it reboots itself.  All the requisite "ready to undoc" lights and messages appear before I take the unit out of the base. Anybody else using XP?  Anyone seeing this problem?  Based on the number of posts, it doesn't appear to be any better in Vista. BTW I have updated all the drivers, etc. etc.  Thanks.

Answer:Undocking Thinkpad X61 Tablet with XP

I have the X61 XP with the docking station, however do not see your errors. I presume you select "Undock" from Start and allow the screen to blick a couple of times.  Also, later on I changed the Power Manager setting to force the tablet to go into Stand-by mode when I undock.   As soon as you open the laptop it will leave the stand-by mode.   The setting is off the Advanced button on Global Power Settings tab in Power Manager.    (Start > ThinkAdvantage > Power Manager > Global Power Settings > Advanced)    See if you still have the same issue in stand-by mode. As a side note, many of the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) events in Vista are probably related to the Turbo Memory, which does not apply to Windows XP systems which can not use Turbo Memory.     The only BSOD event I've had was when I was attempting to print an unusual PDF document, for which I never determined a cause.    Message Edited by ctoys on 07-01-2008 12:45 PM

I tried emailing lenovo and chatting with representative and they sent me here. So here is an email directed at somene who actually works there, but anyone can take a stab should they be privvy to some information.   I have had one version or another of the x series convertible tablets for past 8 years and I have loved them all. My latest one (x61) is close to needing a replacement and I have been disappointed with the models you currently offer. I carry my laptop everywhere and I usually bike, which means that one of the things I am interested in is portability and lightness of my computer. Instead of them getting smaller, your laptops are getting bigger. Their screens are larger, and they are heavier. Not all of us are interested in wasting our time on watching videos on wide screen computers -- I can't be the only one. It would be nice if there were at least one model that targeted audience such as myself. Are there any plans that you might offer models that are smaller than the ones you offered three years ago?e

I have a X220T. And I am thinking to buy a ThinkPad Tablet android too. But I am not sure if it will add anything in my life. I have a lot of windows application in my computer, I am a programmer. And read and write a PDF a lot. And I don't like the idea to carry two hardware with me (X220T and ThinkPad Tablet). The ThinkPad Tablet is good, light, camera, battery life. But I am not sure if it worth buying one, since I have the X220T. I am not sure if it is really necessary.

Answer:X220T vs. ThinkPad Tablet.

This is largely a question of preference.  If you value weight and battery life over functionality then the thinkpad tablet is a good investment.  If you however, value performance, ability, and sheer functionality above weight and size, then the thinkpad tablet is a waste of money.  The x220t can be made to last battery wise just as long (and longer) than the thinkpad tablet. It is a beast in comparison spec wise to the tablet. It's keyboard is a dream, and the wacom implementation is superior in most aspects to the n-trig used on the thinkpad tablet.  If it was up to me, I wouldn't even look at the thinkpad tablet.  That said I love the way the thinkpad tablet looks. If they stuff x86/x64 guts in there, I would be the first in line to buy it.

I decided to get the Thinkpad Tablet 2 and ordered it, the keyboard and the sleeve. It is starting to ship slowly and figured I'd post reviews and updates as items arrive. The listed ship dates are: Sleeve: 1/3/13; TT2 Keyboard with Stand: 1/9/13; TT2 Tablet: 1/13/13. Hopefully they stick to the schedule or ship early as I'm going nuts waiting!
The first part, the sleeve, arrived today...
It has a great leather feel (even though I'm sure it is not real leather) and the red lining inside definitely gives it a high end feel and would be nice to the screen of the device (perhaps may help eliminate fingerprints???). It is separated into two compartments which are nicely sized. As the sleeve was delivered to my work I was able to take the Surface that we have and see how it fit (as they are both 10.1 devices figured it would give a good idea) and it fit very much like a glove. I think the Tablet 2 will go in it nicely. The word Lenovo is embossed in the "leather" and is done very gracefully and unobtrusively. There is also a nice little pocket that I guess is for a credit card or driver's license or something like that.
This is, in my opinion, a very high end product and well worth the $39.99.

Are they one in the same or am I missing something here?LL

Answer:Thinkpad / Notebook / Tablet / Laptop

Thinkpad, laptop and notebook, mean virtually the same thing. i.e. portable computer. (thinkpad is a range of laptops by I.B.M now Lenovo).A tablets interface is normally by an electronic stylus (pen/pencil), used to touch different parts of the "tablets" screen, to open and use appliances, and is a great boon to budding artists, who can draw freehand with the stylus, instead of being hindered by the useage of a mouse.

I've had  a X41 Tablet for about 2.5 years now.  Just recently in the past month it will randomly die on me, meaning it will lose all power (No shutdown screen, nothing).  If I try to turn it back on, nothing will happen.  If I plug in the AC adapter, still no power.  The only way I can get it to start back up is if I remove the battery, then place it back in forcefully or wiggle the battery around while it is back in the slot.  If it does restart, the battery is still charged like nothing had happened.  So  it isn't the battery losing it's charge.  I even tried putting another battery in from one of the X41 tablets in our office after the computer had died and it wouldn't start.  My thoughts are it has something to with the connection on the board.  Any other thoughts or ways to fix this? Thanks,JohnMessage Edited by cranjx on 06-11-2008 10:34 AM
