Thinkpad X61 Tablet rotation sequence....

Question: Thinkpad X61 Tablet rotation sequence....

I have never been able to get this tablet screen to rotate according to the rotation sequence settings I have set for it in the control panel tablet settings. It is currently set to go from primary landscape to secondary landscape, then portrait, etc. It NEVER works upon rotating the screen. Doing this, tt always goes straight to the portrait orientations. According to that control panel setting, this sequence is for the button only. From the usual, unfolded laptop position, the sequence does work. However, if I flip the screen then hit the button, it goes out of sequence. Anyone successfully get theirs to rotate properly?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Thinkpad X61 Tablet rotation sequence....

Yes, had the same issue until I changed the setting in another place that must override the one you set. Go to Programs > ThinkVantage > Tablet Shortcut Menu > Settings (round link at bottom) > Customize Tablet Menu Settings then set the Auto Screen Rotation default value. The screens will then rotate in the order you set in the Control Panel > Table and Pen Settings > Display > Sequence. One place to set the default orientaion and one place for the sequence, not sure how or if the two conflict with each other.

Hello,Having totally re-installed my X41 Tablet, with the good drivers found on the Lenovo page, I still have a problem when rotating the picture in tablet mode. The pointer on the screen is not synchronized with the stylus moves (the mouse pointer moves like in the landscape mode, ==> they are perpendicular to the stylus moves).I've tried with no success the two calibration modes (vertical and horizontal), I must have a wrong or a missing driver...Thanks for any idea

Answer:Problem with ThinkPad X41 Tablet picture rotation

If you have installed win7 on your X41 it is a known problem. Microsoft released a patch for that: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976755/en-usTry it out and let us know if it works.

I recently did a fresh install of win 7 64-bit on my thinkpad x200 tabletpc, updated all the usual drivers and software from lenovo and windows update. Whenever I rotate my display into tablet mode, I always get the message 'USB Device Not Recognized' in the system tray, windows then trys to find and install device drivers for it but is unsuccessful every time. I have tried to find device drivers to fix this without any success. In device manager, I see the culprit highlighted under Universal Serial Bus Controllers with a yellow exclamation mark sign beside 'Unknown Device' with a location of Port_#001.Hub_#002. I have tried uninstalling and and reinstalling this, still no success. I have tried to disable it merely to stop the annoying prompt from the system tray yet it still comes back and warns me of the same problem. Has anybody else experienced this ? Does anybody have any suggestion for solving the problem ?I'm guessing it is related to the display driver, I will try installing/reinstalling another version of that to see if that fixes it. I'm starting to doubt the integrity of this tablet, I've begun to notice a lot more driver and USB conflicts lately..

Answer:x200 thinkpad tablet : 'USB Device Not Recognized' on screen rotation

Did you install the Cipset driver.
I guess, this is missing and so unknown devices cannot get recognized well.

Hi all, I have recently upgraded to windows 7 (64bit) and now when I  put my tablet into tablet mode, the screen doesn't autorotate and none of the tablet buttons work. In order to rotate the screen I have to right click on the desktop and choose graphic properties/rotation.Interestingly if I press the tablet buttons while in tablet mode and then rotate the screen up to notepad mode within a few seconds the button will perform its function (rotate screen, activate tablet shortcut menu, etc). Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I've tried running system update (4.0) to no avail. Cheers

Hi I have installed 64bit windows 7 on my machine quite recently in order to utilise the extra ram. When i rotate the screen clockwise to tablet mode, the screen will auto rotate to primary potrait by default and the buttons will work as usual. However, when i swivel my screen anti clockwise to tablet mode, the screen will NEVER auto orientate to primary potrait mode and all the tablet buttons will not work if i rotate the screen ANTI CLOCKWISE. Can anyone help me on this? Thanks alot in advance for the replies

I have an HP Pavilion TX2000, which is basically a standard convertible tablet pc.

Whenever I fold the screen into tablet mode, the screen orientation switches to secondary landscape format (i.e. 1280x800 upside down).

It would be much more practical if there was a way to make it switch to primary portrait format (i.e. 800x1280) automatically instead.

Of course, i can use the "screen orientation" hotkey on the right side of the display to manually do that each time, but that's not very practical, especially since a resolution refresh takes about 5 seconds - and two refreshes are needed if the system switches to an unwanted one first.

The windows vista control panel holds an option named "tablet settings", but the screen orientation settings there only modify the sequence of screen orientations if the beforementioned hotkey is pressed, and have nothing to do at all with the action if the screen is folded into tablet mode.
The graphics driver config panel (nVidia control panel) also holds an option to rotate the screen, but similarly, doesn't show any switch for default action if the screen is folded into tablet mode.

HPs preinstalled hotkey bloatware doesn't have any options for that at all, and the system behaves in this respect exactly the same without it.

I believe the connectors at the hinge of my x61 tablet is the source of problem. Earlier I mentioned that I had no access to the top of my screen with the digitizer, which is now restored. Now,  when I turn the screen to the 90 degree to flip it over, I lose sound. I have to disable sound device in the device manager and restore it, but remain unable to get sound in tablet mode. Is this a common problem? thanks

5855 tablet lost auto rotation after (I think) recent Windows 10 update.
It used to work a couple of days ago.

Any ideas how to restore the auto rotation?

Answer:5855 tablet lost auto rotation

Greetings,Kindly try the following steps :To turn on, or turn off screen rotation, swipe in from the right, select PC Settings and look for the Screen icon. Tap the Screen icon and you will see a vertical slide control for brightness. At the top of the brightness control you will see a rectangle, representing a screen, with a curved arrow at the lower right corner. Tap the rectangle once to lock the screen rotation in the current position, portrait or landscape. The curved arrow will change to a lock. To unlock screen rotation, follow the same procedure, tap the rectangle with the lock and it will change back to the curved arrow. Please update drivers and check if issue persists. If the button has disappeared and issue is not resolved after updating driver, reset the operating system after backing up data. Confirm if this helps.

On Tablet PCs, screen orientation can be changed so that any side of the screen can become "the bottom" of the desktop.
Unfortunately, the result is that a wallpaper intended for a 1200 x 800 desktop, is stretched to fill a 800 x 1200 desktop. See the effect in the attached images.
Is there any way to lock wallpapers to a physical side of a screen?

Answer:Screen Orientation and Wallpaper Rotation (on Tablet PCs)

The easiest solution may be a tiled wallpaper. Something that's just a pattern.

edit: I found this page. I have no idea if it works. I only have desktop machines:

ISSUE:screen goes dark/blank upon rotation to tablet modescreen dark/blank when stated in tablet mode IN GENERAL: when running in laptop mode -> attempt to rotate to tablet mode -> screen goes dark/blank once the screen is approximately 6"s from the point at which it would lock in place in tablet mode it does not matter where the hinge is within the 180 deg rotation, i.e.,  from laptop to tablet position the problem occured sporadically, it is now virtually 100% THE HELP WE ARE ASKING FOR: 1- means for determining whether the issue is hardware related or software related, troubleshooting & resolution [some threads unrelated to this issue have eluded to a physical switch within the hinge, while others have suggested software related issues related to screen orentation]  We appreciate your help, swrdfsh the machine at issue is:X61T, 7764CTO, factory Win XP tablet

Answer:X61T XP -> screen blank on rotation to tablet mode

Since there have not been postings on drivers/settings related to blank screen and rotation, I would assume it is hardware related and deserves a visit to a service center.   The service center will fix the problem either way.   The software related to the screen rotation normally changes the screen only after full rotation and as you start to lower the lid from laptop to tablet.   If your screen goes blank (instead of rotating) as you lower the lid, it is possibly related to software.   Might also check your presentation mode and screen settings under the Tablet Shortcut Menu, if you have changed any of these setting from their default.

Strange new problem with my X61 (running vista, fully up to date, 4 gigs ram, etc.) When I rotate it into slate mode, the wireless disconnects and refuses to reconnect properly until I reboot. I have verified this behavior many times. More confusing: the wireless connection icon in the right side of the task bar remains in connected mode, but if you click it, it will not give you the usual windows panel allowing you access to the networking screens. Stranger yet, if you physically shut off the radios with the switch on the front, the radio LED stays lit, and using Fn+F5 to bring up the radio screen, doesn't allow me to cycle the radio on or off either. Possible cause: I have uninstalled "Access Connections" because it has been nothing but trouble for me:  This may be a variation on the old "display cannot work in secondary landscape mode when wireless WAN" is active message that I used to get. Basically, this computer does not have wireless WAN, never has, but for some time, when I tried to use the screen in secondary landscape in slate mode, it would give me that message and turn the screen to some other orientation. This was obviously unacceptable, and I uninstalled access connections which seemed to solve the problem. With a recent automatic lenovo update, it reinstalled access connections and started that problem again, which is why I uninstalled it yet again. But now, this. Anyone see this? I seem to remember that screen orientation was... Read more

Answer:X61 Tablet Wireless Turns Off/Crashes on Screen Rotation

Funny that you should post this because I literally just registered for this forum so I could add a post for this exact problem (as well as a temporary fix) in the hopes that Lenovo would quickly remedy this situation.  I am kind of a tech newbie and only recently started troubleshooting my computer problems on my own so please excuse any lack of proper jargon during the course of this post.  Anyway, the problem I thought (much like you) was the updated version of the Access Connections version 5.02 that was recently released by Lenovo that automatically updated to my tablet.  So I uninstalled 5.02 and reinstalled the older version 4.52.  After restarting my computer, I tried rotating my screen to tablet mode-->the wireless disabled, Access Connections froze, Wireless LED would stay lit, and it would kick me out of using secondary landscape mode with the wireless enabled even if I tried to turn the wireless off with the hard key on the front of the keyboard.  Same problem persisted exactly as you posted.   I then went to my ThinkVantage System Update and looked at my update history to see what other recent updates might have been responsible.  I came across one called "Intel Wireless WiFi for Vista 32-bit" version 12.00.4000.  After doing some digging on the Lenovo website I found the driver: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70505 Anyway, I figured it would b... I am having an issue getting my screen to rotate when I put it in tablet mode. I previously had windows 8.1 installed and had everything working fine.  I did a clean install of windows 8.1 as I was having issues with write permissions. I did not notice having the problem with my screen not rotating at that point, but I hadn't needed to put it into tablet mode.  Since updating to windows 10, my screen will not autorotate. The buttons work to turn the screen, but this is annoying when wanting to change from one mode to the other.

Does anyone know what drivers I need for this (for Windows 8 or 10)? (perhaps I didn't install them after my last clean install).

hi guys i really want to try a windows 8 tablet and i plan to buy it either by the end of this month or by next January. I am confused on what to pick though
First of all, the reason why I want a windows 8 tablet IS because i like the interface. but more importantly, i need metatrader and cTrader in legacy app as im a full time forex trader. I have metatrader in my iphone but you cant seriously compare that with the windows version (no tabbing, no lines drawing, no fibonacci, etc.). cTrader doesnt even exist there.
im looking to replace my macbook pro (which btw i also installed windows 8 on it through parallels virtual desktop) with a windows 8 tablet to support my trading while im outside
So basically I dont need a super i7 tablet or something. However, im curious to know how windows 8 atom tablets perform. I have seen enough reviews and some people says atom tablets perform badly in legacy apps. Question is, how bad is that bad? Does it lag so bad even though i dont need to run heavy apps like adobe? I only need to run these trading apps which btw are very light. You can compare them with MS paint i believe, just with constant connection.
would it do well in atom tablets? I dont want lags when i switch from win8 native apps to metatrader and cTrader.
next question - how does windows 8 tablet on-screen keyboard work with legacy apps? Would i have special gesture to show up the on-screen keyboard or it automatically appears when i touch the screen? I personally dont believe ... Read more

Dear Forum, Ever since I installed Windows 10 the automatic screen rotation doesn't work. I have the impression that Windows doesn't even know that my Thinkpad has the corresponding sensors. In the device manager, there is no "Sensor" section, I have no "Rotation lock" button in the quick settings (not greyed out, it's not even there), and the physical rotation lock button does nothing. I checked that the services "Sensor Data Service", "Sensor Monitoring Service" and "Sensor Service" are running and automatically started.I read here on the forum, that there should be some "HID sensors V2" visible in the Device manager. Answer:Thinkpad S1 Yoga screen rotation issues after windows 10 upgrade

Hi sumitgoyal3832
Welcome to the forums. Can you please post the full model number of you Thinkpad S1 Yoga?

I have a different Yoga Machine, but when I upgraded to Windows 10 it took me some work updating the drivers to stabilize it. Maybe you can try to updating the driver.

I try that in this order:
1) Windows Update - Check for any update there
2) Use Lenovo System Update to see if it find any BIOS or Driver update
3) Install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows Store.
4) Sometimes some newer drivers does not show on System Update or on Lenovo Companion. Check also the "Lenovo Support Site" with you full model number and check for any driver... you can sort driver by date.

But maybe your computer is a older one and does not have Windows 10 drivers on the Lenovo Site.
In that case I also use "DriverEasy" but that is un-support from Lenovo and AS IS under your own risk. But in my case that tool helped me out a lot to find newer drivers on my machine.
I hope this tips can you some help.

When I am in clamshell mode or stand mode, pressing the screen rotation lock button does not do anything. When I am in tablet mode, pressing the screen rotation lock buttons does turn on/off auto screen rotate. How do I use the button to rotate the screen in clamshell/stand mode? I have v1.66.00.22 of Lenovo Power Management Driver installed.

Hi,I have installed a clean Windows 8.1 on the Helix and have several issues. Putting them into several threads so they can be answered independently. The first thing I did after installing the system (and critical Windows Updates) was running the Lenovo System Update tool and downloading everything. Screen rotation does not work. In ?Device Manager? I can see ?C5621 gw Mobile Broadband Geolocation Sensor? and ?Hid Sensor Collection?. The HID one has an exclamation mark next to it. Are there some drivers I need to download to make this work. I did of course check if screen rotation is not locked ? it is not (I did turn it on/off a couple of times, without any effect). Manual rotation (using display settings) works fine. Thank you in advance for any help,?ukasz

Hi Lukasz, Try, in device manager, right click on HID Sensor Collection then uninstall. Reboot, and see if the driver is loaded properly, if not click on scan for hardware changes. Vince.

In fact, I have a long story in dealing with Lenovo Laptops. At first, I bought my first Lenovo laptop around July. It turned out that whenever the laptop is a bit away (next room or 5 meters away) from the internet router, the wifi connection was very weak comparing to other laptop at the same time and place and ultimately it went into the 'Limited' phase i.e. wifi does not work at all. People from Lenovo solution centre tried their best to repair but did not work out. Ultimately they suggested to get the laptop back and buy another new one. So I did. And I bought a ''better'' Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14 20DM in September 2015 and few problems as of following appeared:  1. Very weak internet connection in distance (5-10 meters or next rooms) from the router (compared to other normal laptops) and ultimately showed 'Limited or Begrenz (in German language)' sign (with yello point on the wifi icon) even though it did not happened so often like my first laptop. 2. I put the laptop in sleep mode and when I opened the laptop after few minutes, the laptop is already shut down. I noticed this many times since November (I did not use my laptop so often in September and October because I was in research). 3. Screen Rotation worked when I bought it in September. After that, I did not rotate the screen again. But I tried to rotate the screen few days ago and it did not rotate. It stopped screen rotatio... Read more

Hi, This problem came from a long story...First, my s230u started having problem waking up after the BIOS update in late September, so I followed the others' suggestions from this forum to downgrade my BIOS.  The hybernate problem fixed.  However, my screen rotation button then failed to function.  I checked the BIOS update webpage and found there was an update 1.61 which could help to solve this rotation button problem, but (1) there was no link anymore for the version 1.61, and (2) I'm afraid if I update my BIOS to 1.61, the wake-up problem will occur again.  My laptop functioned perfectly before the BIOS update in September (the BIOS update was automatically downloaded and installed).  Please help!!!  Thanks.

Hello Everyone.                           I have a TP 600 and my harddisk crashed so I had to get a new one. Now I am trying to install OS onto it, but when I try to change the boot sequence from the BIOS, (pressing F1 on booting and then clicking on the Start Up option) , I am unable to change the start up sequence.I can see that HDD is alloted to the first sequence and I can see other options like CDROM etc, and when I try to select the CDROM option , it doesnt replace the HDD with CDROM as the first sequence. How do I go about this ? I have been researching for almost 2 days with no luck !!Thanks in anticipation,Alex

Answer:Changing the Boot Sequence in Thinkpad 600

alexmat01, welcome to the forum, You need to point the "birdie" at and click on the reset option first (right of top row), this will clear the current boot order. You can then click on the drives in the order you want them to be in the new boot order. i.e. the first drive you click on will be moved into pos. 1, the second into pos. 2 and so on.

We are running SCCM Current Branch version 1706 and ADK 1703.  We just started having issues with the T470 TPM not initializing correctly during the OSD Deployment.  The TPM goes through the Pre-Provision steps without any problem but when we attempt to Enable Bitlocker and send the Key into AD we get "The TPM is defending against dictionary attacks and is in a time-out period." Error Code: 0x80280803 This is not a problem on any other model at this time.  We are also deploying M710s and X270 devices with the same task sequence using the same steps without issue.  Is there a step we need to take on the T470? This task sequence is deploying Windows 7 Machine is in UEFI mode with CSM support.  Secure Boot is disabled and TPM is set to Active version 2.0 Let me know what else you need to help get this resolved. Thanks!

The order is not necessarily important, as you have to reboot for them to take effect anyway.  My only suggestion would be to verify you have a network driver that works, and that way if you need to download others you will have internet access.  But from my experience, there are no conflicts with installing drivers in any particular order.

I wanted to give my impressions of the Lenovo TPT2. First off, the model I have is the 3679-27U, this means that it has the digitizer pen, windows 8 pro, no NFC, no 3G/4G antenna (though there is a slot for a SIM card). Let me also be frank about my biases concerning tablets. I am not a voracious media consumer. If Im going to watch a movie or TV program I prefer to do so with a large screen TV in the comfort of my living room. As far as checking email, messaging, twitter, and facebook that is why I have a smartphone. Why do I need another piece of electronic equipment that does the exact same thing as my smartphone? In my opinion iPADs and Android tablets are really only good for media consumption, they give you a slightly larger screen to run the same apps that your phone runs. If Im going to buy a tablet it has to provide some functionality that my phone or laptop cannot, otherwise it is a waste of money. Therefore, a tablet had to be able to run productivity programs: MS Office, Photoshop, Illustrator, GB-Stats, etc That meant a tablet using either the Atom processor or a Core processor (i3, i5). This left out not only Apple and Android but also any tablets running Windows 8 RT. Obviously one the major advantages of a tablet is its size and portability. My laptop is a comfortable size and fairly easy to carry around, so what advantage would a tablet give me. The answer is battery life. In order to be practical I would need a laptop with a significantly longer run time tha... Read more

Answer:The Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2: Everything a tablet should be

Nice review. I have had my TPT2 for a little over a month now. I have used it extensively as my only device away from the office and have been able to do so without adjusting my computing needs too much. The only drawback that I have had is an under-powered USB port where i am unable to attach my external hard drive. Anything that I knew I was going to need for the day or trip I load onto a USB stick and problem averted.
Edit: I suppose I should mention that my usage is not too intense in terms of productivity. My programs of choice are typically the Microsoft Office package. I do a lot with excel, word, and power point and so far, I haven't run into any issues. I'm in the process of getting a new monitor for home and i'll have a better idea what it's like running a multiple monitor setup from the TPT2 and mini HDMI to HDMI connection. At this point I have a BT keyboard and Mouse which I have been using for the past few days with no issues (except when the battery is close to dying in the keyboard and it behaves as if it is possessed).
I might be one of the lucky ones but haven't had any issues with the wifi signal, sleep issues others have experienced, etc. Outside of the USB and mini HDMI to VGA issues, I'm still completely satisfied. If Wacom could update the drivers to enhance the accuracy of pen input, then I'd be completely satisfied given my particular usage patterns.

I've got a Lenovo Yoga 700-11ISK that I've reformatted and reinstalled with Windows 10 Pro. I've been unable to get the rotation lock / rotation sensor working, which seems to be a very common problem. However, none of the common solutions has seemed to fix the issue. Below is a detailed list of everything I?ve learned. Note that whenever I refer to "Tent Mode," I mean the device's screen is physically rotated (?folded back?) more than 180 degrees. Don?t confuse this with "Tablet mode," the software-based switch available in the Win10 Action Center; when I say "Tent Mode," I refer only to *physically* folding back the screen.

First, let's establish how it behaves on the factory image (i.e. the copy of Windows that comes with the system). These are the desired/expected behaviors, which I?m listing point-by-point for comparison to how it mis-behaves on my fresh Windows 10 Pro install:

1) In Tent Mode, "Rotation Lock" is available in the Action Center; otherwise, it's greyed.
2) In Tent Mode, "Lock rotation of this display" is available in System->Display settings; otherwise it's greyed.
3) In Tent Mode, the ?Allow the screen to auto-rotate? checkbox in the Display control panel is available; otherwise it?s greyed.
4) In Tent Mode, the physical rotation lock button works; pressing it shows a ?auto rotate on/off? OSD. Otherwise the button has no effect.
5) In Tent Mode, registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr... Read more

Answer:Rotation Lock / Rotation Sensor Not Working (Lenovo Yoga 2-in-1)

Your detailed description takes a while to get through. But it appears you have tried Tent Mode, which is what I used to make the option active, and it does no good. I remember which I first got this machine, 3 days ago, I decided to not let it switch the screen around and answered lock when asked, but my Unlock does become active in Tent Mode.

I have quite a few additional drivers on this system I have not seen before. Many of there are for Sensors, so perhaps you just haven't loaded the correct ones yet... sorry I can't help with your specific model. Try turning it on end and see if the button becomes active. It seems like mine appears to go back to the locked mode every time after I select unlock.

I think the problem with screen rotation in the tent mode has been discussed extensively. In addition to that I am also facing a problem with incorrect cam screen rotation while using application like Skype. I like using skype in a stand mode, usually the screen orientation works fine but sometimes my camera screen gets screwed completely. Once that happens it is almost impossible to get your picture straight. Remember the screen rotation remains accurate during this. So in other words, if you are video chatting with someone, you see the opposite party's image in a correct fashion but your images gets completely distorted. Any skype users face that? any fixes out there?    Furthermore, when I change from tablet mode to laptop mode my mouse pointer (touchpad) setting automatically changes itself to reverse bothering the heck out of me.

Answer:Think Pad Twist Screen Rotation along with cam rotation while using skype

I'm sorry to hear that you have this problem. I just also bought  my twist on black friday and I'm having issues with the automatic screen rotation. Fortunately, it seems that Lenovo is working on a new updated driver to fix this. By any chance are you also having this issue? Mouse moves in tablet modeWhen I switch from laptop mode to tablet mode, the mouse pointer doesn?t disappear and starts moving around. I obviously just want to be navigating with my fingers and it gets really annoying as it will also click on random tiles or whatever the pointer travels to and clicks.   It's really annoying. I like this computer and I can just imagine how much more in love I will be if this issues are fixed. It seems that the short battery life is also a problem that Lenovo is working on fixing. Nobody is seeeing the advertised 7 hour life!

Hi there

when browsing through tagged music files Windows seems to come up with the WRONG sort sequence

For example if I'm browsing Mozart

Mozart symphonies /CD 1
Mozart symphonies /CD 10
------- /CD 14
Mozart symphonies /CD 2
Mozart symphonies /CD 3

What I want is for the list to be displayed as /CD 1
/CD 2 ....../.CD 10 etc.

Excel also hoses it up too

any ideas on how to fix this without a whole slew of file / track re-tagging / re-numbering.

Seems bonkers to have 10-19, 20-29 etc displayed before 2, 3 etc. I don't want to renumber a whole slew of stuff to for example /CD 01 etc to force sequence correction. I've about 1.7 TB worth of tagged music files !!!.

Cheers
jimbo

Answer:Windows Sort sequence irritant -- wrong sequence

It has always been this way - it is called lexicographical sorting ie text is sorted from left to right. No easy way round it without 3rd party apps.

Basically, sub ten numbers have to be numbered xxxx01, xxxx02 etc ie with a leading zero (or two zeros for sub one hundred if more than one hundred, three if more than 1000 and so on).

Question: Thinkpad Tablet 2

Anyone else looking at the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2? I'm excited about this device. I love the pen and want a Windows 8 pro device. I have concerns about it running an atom processor and how well it will really run. I am not a huge power user but do use photoshop, generally minor edits but... Any thoughts on this tablet? Anyone looking to buy it? Anyone know release date for it?
Thanks :)

Thanks :) Beck... Im looking at this Tablet specifically too for all the same reasons. I'm also comparing vs the Surface Pro. The main things I like about SUrface Pro are Kickstand, touch cover/keyboard and the 1080p display.
But... it weighs 2 pounds vs the Thinkpad at 1.3 lbs. While I wan to e able to run Pro I also want to use this to read, watch videos, etc... so I dont want anything that is too uncomfortable to hold for long periods of time.
I think I read it will be released at launch, so hopefully this Friday. Im hoping its carried in stores so I can at least see it before buying.

I have an IBM ThinkPad X41 that was issued to me from work. I would like to reinstall the operating system to get rid of all the garbage that's on it. But, they don't have the CD's that came with the laptop. The COA on the bottom of the X41 is for WinXP Pro Tablet Edition. But, I don't have a copy in the office and they can't find it anywhere. Should I install Windows XP Professional on it or should I somehow contact IBM for the CD's to be reissued?

Any ideas???

If I were to pull the trigger on a Windows tablet, I think that would be it. Seems like a great compromise of price, performance and features.
I'm keen on Windows RT, but Win 8 would be even better if they can keep the price down and get the battery life up, which it looks like the did with the TPT 2 pretty well with the Atom processor.
Atom seems like a perfect solution because it's able to run Win 8 and it will outperform any ARM SoC and at the same time the newest Atom can just about match the ARM for battery life.
I think the perfect storm will be when the "Bay Trail" Atom's come out later this year. It should mark the first really major upgrade for the Atom architecture. They will have quad core versions, much better onboard graphics and out-of-order execution (the lack of this is probably the biggest reason Atom's real-world performance falls so far short of better processors)
So... NOKIA.. give me a Win 8 tabelt with that Bay Trail Atom in it for under $700 and I will run to the store with a wad of sweaty $100's in my hand the day it goes on sale.
Questions? Comments?

Answer:Thinkpad Tablet 2 looks good

The only potential gotcha is if you ever need to use Hyper-V, say for playing with the Windows Phone 8 emulator, you will be out of luck on an Atom. Curious, since the AMD equivalent runs Hyper-V just fine.
Otherwise, other than a little bit of lag when starting up applications and during web browsing, Windows 8 runs just fine on an Atom, even on the current models. (I expect some of the lag I experence on my netbook isdue to using a standard HDD instead of SDD.)
I think you'll be quite happy trading a little speed for more battery life between charges.

I tried emailing lenovo and chatting with representative and they sent me here. So here is an email directed at somene who actually works there, but anyone can take a stab should they be privvy to some information.   I have had one version or another of the x series convertible tablets for past 8 years and I have loved them all. My latest one (x61) is close to needing a replacement and I have been disappointed with the models you currently offer. I carry my laptop everywhere and I usually bike, which means that one of the things I am interested in is portability and lightness of my computer. Instead of them getting smaller, your laptops are getting bigger. Their screens are larger, and they are heavier. Not all of us are interested in wasting our time on watching videos on wide screen computers -- I can't be the only one. It would be nice if there were at least one model that targeted audience such as myself. Are there any plans that you might offer models that are smaller than the ones you offered three years ago?e

The build quality seems nice and solid to me. No complaints other than a big notice on the back saying "Non Encyrption" which is rather obnoxious and I'm not sure why it is necessary. I thought there was supposed to be a fingerprint reader but I don't see it and am a little surprised as I bought the highest level that was detailed on their site. The initial apps that I loaded all installed fine. Seemed a little slow but not sure how much of that was loading apps for first time or an indication of the processor. The digitzer pen worked well and I also really like using it to click on smaller items (especially in desktop mode). I downgraded to XP on my brand-new X61 Tablet and when I undock the unit I get the error message "System has recovered from a serious error" at which point a BSOD appears and then it reboots itself.  All the requisite "ready to undoc" lights and messages appear before I take the unit out of the base. Anybody else using XP?  Anyone seeing this problem?  Based on the number of posts, it doesn't appear to be any better in Vista. BTW I have updated all the drivers, etc. etc.  Thanks.

Answer:Undocking Thinkpad X61 Tablet with XP

I have the X61 XP with the docking station, however do not see your errors. I presume you select "Undock" from Start and allow the screen to blick a couple of times.  Also, later on I changed the Power Manager setting to force the tablet to go into Stand-by mode when I undock.   As soon as you open the laptop it will leave the stand-by mode.   The setting is off the Advanced button on Global Power Settings tab in Power Manager.    (Start > ThinkAdvantage > Power Manager > Global Power Settings > Advanced)    See if you still have the same issue in stand-by mode. As a side note, many of the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) events in Vista are probably related to the Turbo Memory, which does not apply to Windows XP systems which can not use Turbo Memory.     The only BSOD event I've had was when I was attempting to print an unusual PDF document, for which I never determined a cause.    Message Edited by ctoys on 07-01-2008 12:45 PM

X60 Tablet Thinkpad:  Error message:  There was a problem connecting to a critical service.  It is possible that anit-virus or firewall software is blocking the connection.  Also, check to make sure that the TPM device driver is installed and enabled. The above message is the latest in a growing problem.  The unit while under warranty recieved a new motherboard three months ago.  Since the warantee has expired.  From the beginning the validation for the security chip (new follwing the replacement motherboard andlways took too long to validate verify or whatever it did.) this process took about 5 mins originally and now takes short of half and hour. About two weeks ago routine updates began to stop and were experiencing problems with various messages about memory errors.  I remain suspect of the security chip. I tried resotre points and they get a message that I can not restore. I tried turning off the chip via CSS and this seemed to make matters worse. I tried disabling in the bios.  This had no change. I tried reenabling  in the bios and no change. When I try now to enter the "Protect Data" command in CSS I can not get to it as it now want a password which I have never set up.  I tried to go the manage logon passwords and get the same. I am out of my zone and don't know what to do.  Survey says?

Answer:TPM Device - X60 Thinkpad Tablet

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Embedded_Security_Subsystem you could reset the tpm chip, read the whole thing, especially about hhd passwords and bios passwords. i would reseat your ram chips just in case that's part of the problem.  i know that would be just too easy though.

Hi, I hope someone can give me an insight into this issue. I received my new ThinkPad X61 Tablet a couple weeks ago (I have to say, it's been great so far!). However, I've got an issue with the fan assembly in my unit. Not a major issue, but an annoyance nonetheless. Model number/type is 7764 CTO L3-xxxxx The fan underneath the left palmrest seems to be generating excessive noise and vibration. It's not huge, but enough to hear it, noticably, over the notebook playing music. I can feel the vibration when I rest my hand on the palmrest, and the problem is excarbated when the notebook is on a hard surface -- i.e., a desk. This has been an issue since I received the laptop, and is definitely the fan. I suspect the rotor is slightly unbalanced. Now, will Lenovo's EasyServ warranty cover this issue? I realize that it doesn't affect the functionality of the computer, but it is annoying (particularly in my place-of-work). Secondly, if Lenovo will repair it, how long will this take? I have classes starting in three weeks and while I can use a work computer at work, I don't have another computer to use for school. I have a 2-year EasyServ warranty -- if I wait until next summer to get it serviced, (assuming they will service this issue under warranty), will they still do it, considering I knew about the issue but opted to wait to get it fixed? And where would I request this warranty service? I suppose I could live with the problem, but if at all possible, I'd reall... Read more

I am quite obsessed to the old IBM thinkpad red / blue stripes design that I want to replace the keyboard of my x60 tablet to a x40/x41 one which it is available from fleabay (cheaper) or Lenovo. Answer:Can x40/ x41 keyboard fit in a x60 tablet thinkpad?

Another question, anyone have tried installing vista 64 bit on a low voltage C2D based x60 tablet? I tried once with Vista Ultimate x64; I haven't found any driver problem or any significant better. I have only 3GB RAM though, so I don't get any advantage of > 3GB memory address. However, no OneNote virtual printer for x64 is a deal breaker to me. Thus, I went back to 32-bit without hesitate.

I see a subject line which already asks this question in the knowledgebase, however I can't open the link so I'm asking this question as a duplicate, my apologies in advance..So, basically, is this possible?  I don't see any Win-7 drivers available for the TP Tablet 2.  I'm assuming that Windows 7 isn't supported then, unless I attempt to load the Win-8 drivers on a Win-7 install.I'm quite disappointed with the TP Tablet 2 running Windows 8.  The response times on anything from opening a webpage, changing to another webpage, opening apps, etc is very slow.  I was hoping that if Windows 7 was supported, then I might just get better performance with this tablet however it could just end up with the same performance for all I know.  I won't know until I try but I don't want to go through the install process just to find out that I don't have any driver support for Win-7. I'm thinking that I should have purchased a Helix... TBD... Any feedback would be appreciated, thank you!!!

Answer:Can I run Windows 7 on the ThinkPad Tablet

Windows 7 won't run natively on the TPT2. My TPT2 response time is okay, i uninstalled any apps and softwares that i don't need. What do you have running on the background of your system?

I have a X220T. And I am thinking to buy a ThinkPad Tablet android too. But I am not sure if it will add anything in my life. I have a lot of windows application in my computer, I am a programmer. And read and write a PDF a lot. And I don't like the idea to carry two hardware with me (X220T and ThinkPad Tablet). The ThinkPad Tablet is good, light, camera, battery life. But I am not sure if it worth buying one, since I have the X220T. I am not sure if it is really necessary.

Answer:X220T vs. ThinkPad Tablet.

This is largely a question of preference.  If you value weight and battery life over functionality then the thinkpad tablet is a good investment.  If you however, value performance, ability, and sheer functionality above weight and size, then the thinkpad tablet is a waste of money.  The x220t can be made to last battery wise just as long (and longer) than the thinkpad tablet. It is a beast in comparison spec wise to the tablet. It's keyboard is a dream, and the wacom implementation is superior in most aspects to the n-trig used on the thinkpad tablet.  If it was up to me, I wouldn't even look at the thinkpad tablet.  That said I love the way the thinkpad tablet looks. If they stuff x86/x64 guts in there, I would be the first in line to buy it.

Laptop is fully charged and even if i try to charge it now, it doesn't even gets charged. Please help.

Answer:Helix thinkpad tablet pc not booting

Good day and welcome to the community.

Sorry you're having difficulty.
In my experience, a fan error is not something that is cleared by any kind of reset. It pretty much means that the fan needs to be replaced.

I would recommend that you contact Support (info below) to discuss and confirm.

Hope this helps a bit.

Answer:Thinkpad / Notebook / Tablet / Laptop

Thinkpad, laptop and notebook, mean virtually the same thing. i.e. portable computer. (thinkpad is a range of laptops by I.B.M now Lenovo).A tablets interface is normally by an electronic stylus (pen/pencil), used to touch different parts of the "tablets" screen, to open and use appliances, and is a great boon to budding artists, who can draw freehand with the stylus, instead of being hindered by the useage of a mouse.

I need a thinkpad tablet that has a 14'' or above display. X230t, helix, twist all have only 12'', too small for work purposes. x-1 carbon touch has 14'', but it's only touch not tablet. I need tablet because I'd like to read pdfs and write notes on them. Touch is vertical and therefore not convenient for this purpose. Does Lenovo have any plan to market a 14'' thinkpad tablet any time soon? Thanks.

Answer:Does Lenovo have any plan for a 14'' thinkpad tablet?

Not sure how much of a help this is to you (it's a work-around). However, with a separate/detachable keyboard option (available for most tablets of any brand) as well as a separate (non-dockable) accessory pen, you can draw and physically type on most any tablet now-adays. I've seen a ton of pressure sensitive, aftermarket pen designs on Kickstarter, similar sites and elsewhere, that use various technologies to enable drawing and writing for just about any device.  It's not elegant, it's not ideal, but it's worth considering if your in the market for a new machine.  Probably worth testing first/reading significant reviews on each piece before you buy as well.  But it may open up many options for you.

I decided to get the Thinkpad Tablet 2 and ordered it, the keyboard and the sleeve. It is starting to ship slowly and figured I'd post reviews and updates as items arrive. The listed ship dates are: Sleeve: 1/3/13; TT2 Keyboard with Stand: 1/9/13; TT2 Tablet: 1/13/13. Hopefully they stick to the schedule or ship early as I'm going nuts waiting!
The first part, the sleeve, arrived today...
It has a great leather feel (even though I'm sure it is not real leather) and the red lining inside definitely gives it a high end feel and would be nice to the screen of the device (perhaps may help eliminate fingerprints???). It is separated into two compartments which are nicely sized. As the sleeve was delivered to my work I was able to take the Surface that we have and see how it fit (as they are both 10.1 devices figured it would give a good idea) and it fit very much like a glove. I think the Tablet 2 will go in it nicely. The word Lenovo is embossed in the "leather" and is done very gracefully and unobtrusively. There is also a nice little pocket that I guess is for a credit card or driver's license or something like that.
This is, in my opinion, a very high end product and well worth the $39.99.

Xp tablet was never offered to the general public for sale.  It was only made available to the manufacturers.

So, the only way to get xp tablet pc on your tablet will be to obtain a set of restore discs.  You can try to obtain a set through Lenovo support.  If you are unable to purchase or if they are unavailable, you can get them from the link.  I've bought a few sets of restore discs over the years from them and haven't had any problems.

I've had  a X41 Tablet for about 2.5 years now.  Just recently in the past month it will randomly die on me, meaning it will lose all power (No shutdown screen, nothing).  If I try to turn it back on, nothing will happen.  If I plug in the AC adapter, still no power.  The only way I can get it to start back up is if I remove the battery, then place it back in forcefully or wiggle the battery around while it is back in the slot.  If it does restart, the battery is still charged like nothing had happened.  So  it isn't the battery losing it's charge.  I even tried putting another battery in from one of the X41 tablets in our office after the computer had died and it wouldn't start.  My thoughts are it has something to with the connection on the board.  Any other thoughts or ways to fix this? Thanks,JohnMessage Edited by cranjx on 06-11-2008 10:34 AM

Hi guys,
I yearn for that very promising little pen supporting tablet and really think I'm gonna get one - unless it's gonna be too costly, cause, let's face it, it's got no Surface Pro Click-Keyboard.
But where is it? Lenovo site says coming November, and there is a new sneak peek video, at the end of which the Lenovo guy says it there would be an event "next week" at the MoMa. Lenovo.de, as usual, barely even recognizes Windows 8. So, my fellow Windows fans from the Big Aplle, do you know anything about that event? Or at least prices for Tablet, Keyboard and Dock?
Cheers,
Andreas

Answer:ThinkPad Tablet 2 to be announced next week?

I've heard it's anywhere from $629 to $699 for the tablet. I think the cheapest price was for 1GB of RAM, 32GB SSD, and no stylus. The $699 I see at the Microsoft Store for preorder supposedly includes 2GB of RAM, a 64GB SSD, and a stylus.
The keyboard is $120.ThinkPad Tablet 2 Bluetooth Keyboard with Stand - US English | Lenovo | (US)

I don't know how much the dock costs or about any events. I'm not liking the silence from all the OEMs. A lot of them said they would launch on the 26th, and that date has past and we've heard nothing from them. It's like they're not interested in selling these things.

The main reason why I chose the x220 tablet was for school purpose. Most of my classes are notes you buy from the teacher (40-50$ a booknote) or powerpoints which I have to print out (Around 800 powerpoint pages, 400 papers per class). So thread is a good thread for all the students out there.  I was a big fan of Asus for their good quality hardware and for their EEE pc brand. I had a netbook, with a 10 hours battery life. So battery was my main concern at that time. I was bringing it in the lab and loved it for its small size and long life battery. Then one day, I saw a new product from Asus at CES 2010, the ep121. I was like ?wow, that tablet would be great for school!? I then did some research to find out more about it. That?s where I found the poor 3 hours battery. So I continued my research to find a tablet that would fill in this job. That?s when I found out about lenovos thinkpad tablet. I was impressed about the overall laptops but the x220 tablet stood out? 19 hours battery? I couldn?t find anything better. So I ordered it. For all the students who think 1300$ is expensive, let me tell you this. How much do your texts books cost? From my experience, I spend 1-2 reference book, 3 text book and lots of prints out a semester. My spending would be around 200-300 $ every semester. Right now, with my tablet, I?m not buying or printing anything for school. I borrow my friend?s books, scan them (process that takes haft an hour per text book) a... Read more

Answer:Why I chose thinkpad: x220 tablet

Thanks for the student's perspective. I'm currently waiting for mine and plan on using it in class as well. My previous setup was an SL410 with a Wacom Bamboo, so I can appreciate how awesome it is to cutout the paper from note taking process. I didn't progress quite as far as you with scanning textbooks though... baby steps I guess. As for the Fn key, I read that you can change that in the BIOS. I'm sure someone more computer literate has already outlined exactly how to do this on the X220t. Not sure if the keys themselves are swappable though...?

Alright so I got a used IBM Thinkpad X41 from my uncle which had windows xp installed on it. He asked me to reformat it so his companys information and other data would be fully erased. Some specs on the X41:Does not have CD/DVD Drive so I can't install windows that way.Does have USB slots, so I think that will be the only way to install (correct me if I am wrong).  Me being a complete newbie, I full erased the hard drive (so there is no OS). The laptop still turns on but when i let it run it says: Media Test Failure, Check CableExiting Broadcom PXE ROMOperating System Not Found Luckily the Bios still works and I can access it but there is nothing I can do to restore it back to factory state or recover. The Bios does detect my usb drive and I have placed that in the number one spot for boot order. If there is anyway I can get an OS installed onto my pc I would be grateful. Note I don't need to install XP on the first install, If installing windows 98 or 95 will be faster and easier we can do that. I can take it from there as all I will need is the xp install files which i have copied from my cd to my computers share folders. Thanks again hopefully there is a solution to my problem, I'd really like to have this laptop for school as im going into grade 12.

I have thinkpad x230 tablet, and I have mixed feeling about it. It is a quite powerful one, does most of the job but have too many design flaws - broken rubber latch after a while and rubber buffers in the bottom etc.,  I hate the new gen x240 laptop, especially the X series convertible laptop is discontinued. Stupid, in my opinion, yoga design. I, no way, want to flip the keyboard to any surface. Especially on a field trip. X240 discontinues Express Card slot, no thunderbolt, no digitizer. The removal of trackpoint 3 click buttons, which were combined with the trackpad. People complain a lot when they accidentally click the trackpad while typing.
