Preferred Solution: Internal finger reader in ThinkPad X61 Tablet

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I bought a x230 Tablet from ebay.  It didn't come with a fingerprint reader.  Is there a part that I can buy to add a fingerprint reader for it below the LCD screen? I've looked at https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/x230t_fru_bom_20121010.pdf and found this:04W6941 LCD ButtonBzlASM wFP CM204W6845 w/FP for Comet-2 I noticed from google images that 04W6941 is only the panel and doesn't include the fingerprint itself.  Is this true?I've searched google about 04W6845 and I couldn't figure out if it's what I need. Thank you for your help.

luisTablet, welcome to the Lenovo User Community! That's an ExpressCard/34 / ExpressCard/54 slot in your X200 tablet. You need to search for an ExpressCard SmartCard reader.  For instance, Lenovo sells a Gemplus one.

Hello,I've just bought my new tablet and, overall, I a very impressed with its features. One feature I thought was particularly cool was the fingerprint reader to log on. Sadly, the software didn't come with laptop and, when searching "fingerprint" in Start and scanning over the control panel, it was not there. I have read most of the discussios here concerning my problem, but found no answers and searched everywhere suggested. I then installed the driver from the lenovo site and got as far as the screen with a hand to register one of your fingerprints, clicked the thumb icon and it said that there was no such device detected on my laptop. I was hoping to get it working soon but if I can't find a solution it doesn't matter - It's not absolutely essential/urgent. I was just a little disappointed that the device did not work. Thanks in advance for any help, Doug.

Answer:Fingerprint reader on new thinkpad tablet X220 "not detected"

hey DB-1618,welcome to the forums and for this, could you check at Device Manager and see if the fingerprint device is listed in it? It should be under biometrics.if it is there, uninstall it and then let windows install its generic drivers. restart your unit and reinstall the software which you got from the Lenovo Support Site

I have a T460s on a fresh install of Win10. I just bought an external USB fingerprint reader https://www.amazon.com/Fingerprint-PQI-Matching-Biometric-Security/dp/B06XG4MHFJ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&....My hope was that when my laptop was docked (on a ThinkPad Pro dock), I could plug it into a USB port on my external keyboard and login using it. For the time being, I'm just trying to get it working with the laptop undocked (i.e. forget about external keyboards, USB hubs etc.). Starting from scratch (i.e. fingerprints cleared in both Windows and the BIOS, and the external USB NOT plugged in), I setup the internal fingerprint reader, add prints, and am able login with no problem. When I plug in the external reader, drivers install just fine.  I enrolled a different finger, and was able to login just fine. However, when I unplug the external USB reader, I am never able to get the internal reader working again.  With the external unplugged and after a full restart, the internal will still not let me log in: the fingerprint option doesn?t even show up at the Windows login screen. The only way I can get the internal working again is by plugging the external in again (so that it appears in Device Manager), uninstalling both fingerprint devices (just uninstalling the external USB does not work), restarting the computer, and reenrolling my fingerprint using the internal. I know there is an option in the BIOS to just use the internal re... My new laptop acer aspire has a finger print reader but i don't get what it's for
when i touch it comes up a broken image
could somone explain

Answer:Finger print reader

The fingerprint device (also called a Biometric Device) can be used to login to windows without typing the password, among other things.
Fingerprints can be enrolled and only the enrolled fingerprints will be authenticated.

But before it can be used, the drivers for the device should be installed.
It would be better if we could know the model number of the device.

You can get all the hardware details about the laptop using Speccy. Install Speccy, run it and then fill in the details in your System Specs. The more the better.

I switched from Vista to Win7 Enterprise N on this X200T.  Windows Update and Lenovo Toolbox indicate no updates available and all drivers loaded. The finger reader does not appear in Devices.  Where else do I look? Thanks,

Answer:Windows 7 and Finger Reader

as long as it's still enabled in the BIOS, the authentec reader will likely show up as an unknown device on a fresh win 7 installation.   at this point you should only need to install the driver.

Answer:finger print reader

It looks from the HP driver downloads website... they really want you to install Vista (there are almost no downloads available for XP). So your downgrade will likely be very painful.

Before you downgrade you will need to know your motherboard chipset, wireless, ethernet, graphics, fingerprint reader, sound, etc. manufacturer and model numbers. Then make sure drivers that are not available from HP are available elsewhere. The IDT/Sigmatel audio driver may be especially difficult to find.

I recently downgraded a Gateway laptop and had to get the ATI chipset driver for a MSI laptop (Gateway and ATI didn't have one for XP).

Good luck.

Hello,  I just downgraded to windows XP from Vista Ultimate. Now when I'm accessing a website, that requires a password, I'm not prompted to even add my finger print to the logon, I'm not even seeing the option for website configuration, I had the website option with Vista. I'm not sure if its a WinXP downgraded thing but I'm using the 5.6 is this the latest? I can't see why it would not support the website logon with finger reader. I know I had this option in Vista, Its sad if XP only allows you to logon using the finger reader to logon to windows

Answer:T43 Finger Reader software help!!!

Welcome to the forum! Since T43 was never shipped with Vista, I assume that you've had a retail version installed.  Now to my next question: Have you loaded XP from restore disks, or is it another retail version? If the latter holds true, you may have to add some drivers from Lenovo's site. To be able to point you to the correct drivers, please post your 7-character model number (it's either 26xx-xxx or 187x-xxx). Good luck and let us know.

Hi,    Anyone got the fingerreader working for the lenovo 3000 N200 laptop  under linux ( any distro ... personnaly I use Xubuntu and Archlinux ).Overall just about everything works fine under linux on the laptop but fingerreader would be cool!!

Answer:Use the finger reader under linux

You can get it working under ubuntu, I read about it in a couple of places - so xubuntu should be a doddle. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=760018&highlight=lenovo+3000+n200%2C+fingerprint Also be aware that you will likely have to manually get the sound working. Graphics card should be ok. I don't know if this would void your warranty though (changing os) ?

I've recently had my T43 (1872) repaired. It did not originally come with a finger print reader. The original palm rest was faulty, so it was replaced by another one. The new palm rest has a finger print reader. Is there anyway for me to use the fingerprint reader (eg download a driver, etc)? It's not showing up as a hardware feature  and I've tried running System Update, which doesn't bring up anything either. While it's not absolutely necessary to have this, it would be a nice feature.

Answer:T43 Finger Print Reader

Every T43/p I've ever seen was capable of utilizing the fingerprint reader. Please verify the following:

a) That the palmrest is properly connected including the cable from touchpad to the motherboard.

b) That you have the latest BIOS.

c) That the FPR is seen and enabled in BIOS.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Answer:X220 Tablet - No finger touch capability only pen :(

there are two types of X220t and X230t screens used one is both touch sensitive and uses pen digitiser, there is another one that is outdoor screen version that is only pen digitiser (so there is no finger touch capability).

Hi, I have been baffled by this issue for quite a while now. I have a lenovo X220 tablet that supports both finger and pen inputs for touch. Originally this laptop came with windows 7 and everything was fine and dandy. I then bought windows 8/8.1 Pro 64-bit and did a clean installation of it. Now I only have pen support for the touchscreen, i.e. my finger is recognized as a pen/mouse not a finger which is really frustrating specially when scrolling. Now before I actually purchased the win8 license I had tried out the windows 8 release preview and everything worked perfectly then. So now when I got the actual release of the OS its not. Furthermore I currently have a dual-boot set up with windows 10 technical preview as my other OS and in there it also works perfectly fine as it should. This is important because when I contacted lenovo about the issue they suggested that my screen was broken, but clearly it is not.  Can anyone shed some light on this issue? It is a real shame not to be able to take advantage of this fine screen and windows 8 touch friendlyness.  Kind regards.

hi guys i really want to try a windows 8 tablet and i plan to buy it either by the end of this month or by next January. I am confused on what to pick though
First of all, the reason why I want a windows 8 tablet IS because i like the interface. but more importantly, i need metatrader and cTrader in legacy app as im a full time forex trader. I have metatrader in my iphone but you cant seriously compare that with the windows version (no tabbing, no lines drawing, no fibonacci, etc.). cTrader doesnt even exist there.
im looking to replace my macbook pro (which btw i also installed windows 8 on it through parallels virtual desktop) with a windows 8 tablet to support my trading while im outside
So basically I dont need a super i7 tablet or something. However, im curious to know how windows 8 atom tablets perform. I have seen enough reviews and some people says atom tablets perform badly in legacy apps. Question is, how bad is that bad? Does it lag so bad even though i dont need to run heavy apps like adobe? I only need to run these trading apps which btw are very light. You can compare them with MS paint i believe, just with constant connection.
would it do well in atom tablets? I dont want lags when i switch from win8 native apps to metatrader and cTrader.
next question - how does windows 8 tablet on-screen keyboard work with legacy apps? Would i have special gesture to show up the on-screen keyboard or it automatically appears when i touch the screen? I personally dont believe ... Read more

Answer:Help Me Choose My Tablet - Thinkpad Tablet 2, Vivotab, Acer W700, Etc.

I forgot to add one more question. how responsive legacy apps (desktop mode) is to your finger? Do i really need a pen or it doesnt help either? Because acer w700 doesnt come with a pen so it's also a crucial question for me

My guess is that it's really some UPEK fingerprint reader since Lenovo uses some sort of modified UPEK software (unfortunately it lacks some cool features like password-protected folders or macros).

I didn't know if this was normal behavior for this.I looked at the sensor to see if it's dirty and it was picking up a trace smudge or something but it's not. I tried reinstalling the software and drivers too but it hasn't helped.  I tried the Lenovo driver and the newest driver direct from Uptek.  I also installed the Finger Reader registry patch but that didn't help either.  I'm on Vista x64.Any other suggestions?

Hi, I just got a new T500 (2056-4QU) and have been having a really hard time getting the fingerprint reader working. I have installed the software located here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=TVAN-EAPFPR According to the installation instructions the driver should install automatically.  But it doesnt.  When i navigate to the device manager I still see device labled as Fingerprint Sensor but it has a question mark.  Going thru the MS wizard does not install the driver.  I also found a driver in C:\Program Files\ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software\Drivers but windows will not accept this driver for the hardware.   What am i missing?  Where can i find the correct driver? Thanks,Mitchell

Answer:T500 - Finger Printer Reader

This is not the correct fingerprint software for your computer. The link you been using contains fingerprint software for T61 and T60 that contains another fingerprint reader which means other hardware and other driver. Use the links below instead which is for the T500 fingerprint reader: Vista 32/XP:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70598 Vista 64:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70599 I would recommend to uninstall the current fingerprint software you have installed and reboot before installing this version.Message Edited by gan on 05-25-2009 12:48 AM

I have been logging in to my IBM T43 lately using the built in finger print reader with no problem until I decided to delete my existing passport ,to include my enrolled fingerprints along with it. However, I  was not able to swich the log-on settings back to classic during the configuration so when I restarted the laptop I was again greeted by the "fingerprint log on," which of course would not open into windows unless I get to type in my username and password --that which I forgot. I tried to use the "access IBM" during restart but I could not even make restore. I do not have any manual with me realting to the fingerprint log on. I also tried booting to "safe mode" but still the fingerprint log on appears. I do not have any recovery CD or the XP pro reinstall CD. Any help will be highly appreciated.

Answer:X240 Finger print reader

Hi chidu_, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

Either you have a configuration which does not include a fingerprint reader, or it has become disconnected.

What's the exact model number of the X240 (10 characters starting 20A...)?

Hi. I had a fully working Finger Print Reader. Then today all of a sudden it stopped doing anything. What I checked:- It's turned on in BIOS- Drivers are installed (reinstalled them 2 times)- It doesn't even show as an option in Windows anymore - It's not in the device manager So um, hardware failure?

Dear Friends, Hope all is well.

Your supposed to be able to move your fingers over the sound bar at the plus (+) or minus (-) end and change the volume. It's not working. I have to adjust the volume manually from the speaker icon in the lower right corner.

On another HP laptop to activate the insert/scroll light you push fn and alt>insert scroll key an a light comes on. Perhaps the light is burned out recently as I don't use it much so wouldn't notice it.

I installed the quick launch software below...

Any help or suggestions welcomed.

I want to upgrade up vista 32 to windows 7 ulimate 32 bit

the windows upgrade advisor says the verisoft finger reader program/hardware doesn't work with windows 7. Do I need to uninstall this? I don't really care about having this feature in windows 7 I just don't want it cause my installation process problems. What should I do?

Answer:Verisoft Finger reader upgrade problem

Unfortunately, Verisoft Access Manager software is not compatible with Windows 7. I ran into the same problem. You will need to download different fingerprint software. Digital Persona works great. You can download it from HP using the link below. You can update to a newer improved version when the download completes. I actually like this better than the Verisoft. My scanner works better with this software as well.

My finger print reader doesn't work the way it used to. It only asks for my finger print when logging on to Windows. At all other times it only asks for my windows password which is very annoying. What's wrong -it used to work fine. I reformatted my hdd and downloaded the latest drivers and programs using the system update program. My finger print reader version is 3.3.2.27. The fingerprint reader stays on when my laptop is asleep or off.  The green LED will be active, and when I slide my finger on it, the red one lights up. I believe the fingerprint reader is a usb device, so this could be due to the new bios option to enable usb power when the system is off.  The issue is that the LEDs are on even when my laptop is unplugged!  This is a useful feature to me for charging devices, but I don't want usb devices drawing power when my computer is unplugged. Any ideas?

Our company has purchased a couple of hundred T500 and X200 laptops. After putting our corporate build on the machines, I've noticed a "low on virtual memory" error after a few hours. Uninstalling the fingerprint software resolves the issue, actually I found stopping the ATService.exe service stops this from happening. We never had this issue with the T61 or X61 series. Anyone know what may cuse this? Thanks, Ray

Answer:Authentec AES2810 finger print reader

You never really said anything about what OS and servicepack level you use. Also how much physical ram is installed and what version of the fingerprint software? I assume you tried to to upgrade to the latest fingerprint software unless you already had the latest installed? Could also be a good idea to upgrade other drivers as well if they are old. My company got about 150 Lenovo laptops. Most of them is a X301, T400, T500 and W500. They use a mix of Win XP Prof x86 with SP2/SP3 and Windows Vista Enterprise x86/x64 with SP1 and i never seen this problem. They all have 3 or 4gb of physical ram installed. Maybe there is a conflict between something installed in the corporate build and the fingerprint software. If you use the pre-installed OS or do a clean install with the latest drivers only (no other applications installed) from Lenovo i'm sure this will not be a problem. When this problem happen did you ever check the memory usage using task manager and if very high also check what process that have abnormally high memory usage. Then you could compare the memory usage with the same computer right after a reboot. You could also keep an eye on task manager to see if the memory usage increase abnormally fast and what process that is responsible fo the high memory usage if any. Do you have a lot of additional software installed in the corporate build? Gan

I've had this for a while, and just decided to install the software portion for the fingerprint reader......DigitalPersona Password Manager 1.0.

Now, upon restart, I get a log in screen with my user name for XP Pro, and a blank password.

I ASSUMED that my Windows logon password would work, but WRONG AGAIN

I cannot get past this stupid log in screen

I can start in safemode, and I removed my Windows logon password ASSUMING that would fix it, but WRONG AGAIN

In safe mode, I can't uninstall the program. For some silly reason, I have no system restore points A format and reinstall is not out of the question, but, I'd like to see if anyone has any ideas rather than the very large hammer sitting on my desk

I am preparing for the delivery of my Lenovo T510 and when you use it the first time, what are the procedures, set by step, and at what point and how do you set up the finger point reader please.

Answer:Using T510 for the 1st time and finger print reader

It's fairly intuitive; boot it up and it will present you with an onscreen wizard to guide you through choosing whether or not to install some of the Lenovo preloaded trialware (Norton and Office). After you've booted, hit the Start orb, type in Fingerprint, and launch the Lenovo Fingerprint Software to enroll your fingerprints and make changes to related settings.

Hello,I am using HP Probook 450 G1. I can not enable my friger print lock in my pc. I have checked in BIOS setting, It is enabled here. and in device manager it's look OK. I installed Validity Fingerprint Sensor Driver(sp66915) and Hp Clint Security(sp65637). It shows me that "Finger print reader is not connected,  Please connect the reader". I also tried HP simplepass(sp63474) in place of HP cient security. But it didn't find the finger print sensor. I went to a customer service provider, the said me, If I enable this service it may harm my systems hardware and aslo it may totally demage the matherboard. I have searched for this solution on the web but, I didn't find any proper solution. Now, I want to khow how can I use finger print system on PC. And, Is there any probability of damage?

Answer:Finger print reader problem on HP Probook

Well, I can answer one of your questions, enabling the fingerprint reader will not damage your hardware. Think about it, why would the manufacturer put a device which you can't use into the laptop? That 'customer service provider' is either lazy or incompetent or both. Oh and one more thing, this is a user-to-user forum, not Hp's official support channel.

Answer:Z61M finger print reader has never worked

Biometrics isn't for everyone, and I'm uniquely qualified to say the Authentec readers included with Thinkpads are the best fingerprint scanners available to the general public. It is an electrostatic reader that doesn't rely on optics or lighting (I get the impression you'd like to see either a skin light for ornamentation and a backlight such as the cheap scanners I'm going to describe in the next paragraph....and you'll never find either on an Thinkpad. The Authentec scanner is the most tolerant of dirt and resins every finger picks while still delivering an accurate reading and maintaining real security. Those light up scanners you're describing are the easiset to thwart and can be spoofed with a mini mag light and amber filter especially if you can tailgate the last person  within 90 seconds of their successful logn. Early fingerprint readers used backlighting just like a mini photocopier to read fingerprints and they're horrible, the lamps dim, their reader platens scratch with usage but that cool red light sells a sense of security. Even modern biometric door sensors have red lights but many don't even require it since they use the same brand of scanners from Authentec found inside Thinkpads and the red light is just for ornament, night lites and those obsessed with Cylon Model 6 that it shapes every part of their life, red car and red undies. You should ensure it is enabled in the BIOS and set your BIOS to default /F10shutdown, let it power off for ... Hello everybody.I bought a Thinkpad P50 laptop from Lenovo with the great hope the system will runing well. After I installed my 2nd OS, my laptop has both Windows 10 & Windows 7 OS in it.Each time I switch between windows 7 or WIN 10, the finger print sensor can't read my finger print anymore & it asked me to import the password.I can only use the Finger Print if I relearn it & doesn't switch between the OS.This problem so anoying? why it can be happen? Please help thank you.

Answer:Lenovo P50 Finger Print reader issue

Different fingerprint software for Win7 and Win10.

The fingerprint data stored by the BIOS is compatible with only one or the other software, so it's either one or the other at a time software which is in effect and works... not both simultaneously.  You can't set up fingerprint recognition for both OS's and have them both work.

Even worse, if you set up the fingerprint recognition for Win7 (causing the data for Win7 to be stored), it will only work as long as you still only boot from Win7.  As soon as you boot to Win10 (even if you haven't configured Windows Hello to support fingerprint in Win10) this booting to Win10 invalidates the fingerprint functionality for Win7.  So when you then eventually re-boot to Win7, the fingerprint recognition no longer works and has to be configured again in Win7.  This is the consequence of dual-booting and actually occasionally alternating between Win7 and Win10

This issue is the same for the P70.

And that's just the way it works because of the various factors involved.  No solution I'm afraid.

Hi there, I'm pissed with my new X1 yoga Model 20FQCTO1WW. Fresh configured, update all latest drivers. After configured Windows Hello with fingerprints, it will work only for awhile until the computer lid was closed or into sleep mode. The fingerprint reader can be detected 1~2 times out of 10 cold boot. The symptom is, when open the lid, Windows Hello ask for scan the finger but the fingerprint reader only flash a red light then becomes irresponsive. I have to shutdown the computer completely. Sometimes the fingerprint sensor might back to work.  Finally I restore factory default, re config windows, hello, update drivers etc. The problem still the same. I do not believe it is hardware problem, any recommendation will be appreicated. Thanks, siukeung
