Yoga 12 Thinkpad Keyboard issues

Question: Yoga 12 Thinkpad Keyboard issues

I have over 30 Yoga 12 that I administer. I have now had 2 that have keyboard issues where certain / most keys stop working. The keys either don't work at all or give incorrect input. Such as pressing shift makes tab key action occurr or pressing return makes x come up. It seems the only fix is replacing keyboard. Is there a known problem with these machines and their keyboards?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone, I received my ThinkPad Yoga yesterday. Upon booting it up, everything seemed to be working fine. I set it up and everything without a hitch. Then I got to the OS (Win 8.1). The keyboard just didn't respond at all. So I got fed up with trying to figure it out (a USB keyboard didn't work either), so I installed the Windows 10 Technical Preview since I would be installing it eventually anyway. Same issue, worked at boot and at login screen, stopped working after that. This time it made a noise though. The Yoga makes a very strange "you can't do that" type of noise every time I push a key. I then tried Ubuntu, on which the keyboard works find, but upon installing Windows 10 again I have the same issue.I'm totally confused at this point. I've obviously tried every driver I could possibly find for the device. I've been looking everywhere and I can't find anyone with a similar issue. I have the model with the Wacom stylus / digitizer, and it's the Signature Edition, if that matters. Any help is appreciated. P.S. Sorry for the wall of text ;p

Hello,  I recently purchased a Thinkpad Yoga 12 (MP1091PE). I love this laptop since it is a major upgrade from my previous one. I finally got an opportunity to really use the laptop for all its features the last couple days, after completing all the updates for windows 10 pro and lenovo drivers and BIOs.  1) OneNote IssueWhen I would be using Onenote 2013 to take notes with the pen and drag the document, I would have no issues. Howver, when I put the computer to sleep and wake it up again, the touch features (like zoome and draging) do not work. This is the same for the scrolling gesture with the trackpad. I would have to close one note and re open it to make it work again.  I have been looking through the forums about this issue, and have not been able to find a fix. Does anyone else have this problem? 2) Notification/Taskbar IssueWhen I would touch the screen to activate the touch screen keyboard to type, I would have not issues. After repeating the same task 5-6 times, the notification section would not respond, the icon for the keyborard would disappear. I would then simply rotate the screen to portrait and back to landscape and that would fix the problem.  I was wondering if there was something I could do to prevent this from happening at all. It is kind of annoying to have to flip the screen to tablet mode, only to rotate the screen to make it work.  3) Touchscreen keyboard issuesThis problem extends a bit mor... Read more

Hi

From what I see you have a Thinkpad Yoga 12 model 20DL. I don't have that model and maybe this is not direcctly focused to your issues, but when I updated to Windows 10 it take me some time to stabilize it.

I can recommend you to check on the drivers of the touchscreen and digiter.

This is your models support site, you can organize the drivers by OS and date so you can be sure to apply the latest:

Hey guys, after some excersize, I got on my laptop and had  a few drops of sweat land on the keyboard and trackpad. I turned the laptop off shortly after, this was 6:30pm yesterday and now at 7:00 am some of the keys are still acting wonky. I gotta say I am very worried as this is my school laptop. At the same time I thought the Thinkpad Yoga keyboard was spill resistant. What can I do to remedy this situation. Again I didn't even spill anything. Just had some drops of sweat on the keyboard

Hey all, I have a quick question. On most Thinkpads the individual keys on the keyboard are pretty easy to remove and clea; due to the lift and lock feature of the Thinkpad Yoga's keyboard I'm not sure if that is true for it as well. My Enter key is a bit sticky like something is underneath it and I wanted to pop it off and clean up whatever is causing the problem, but I'm not sure if that is something I can do without breaking it.  Are the Thinkpad Yoga 14's keys easily removed and replaced or is that something I had better not mess with?

Hey everyone, Recently bought this laptop. Loving everything about it. However, I did a fresh install of Windows 10 (it wasn't an upgrade from Win8.1, but rather a new install of Win10 after I replaced the harddrive to a 1TB SSD). Since then I've reinstalled everything I could get from the site. Every Lenovo driver set and utility. Updated the BIOS. Consulted the Solution Center. Ran scans from the utilities and the site. I've literally tried EVERYTHING that's obvious, and I can't get the backlight to come on at all. When I first received the laptop with the old harddrive, the backlight worked just fine. Since I put in the new SSD with a fresh install, I cannot for the life of me get it to turn on. Pressing Fn+SPACE gets it to show the little icon on screen that it's SUPPOSED to be turned on, but it isn't on. So I'm at a loss here. I sincerely doubt it's a hardware issue, because literally the only thing that's changed is the harddrive. If there's a specific driver for the keyboard backlight, I'd love to know about it. Thanks in advance!

My keyboard on my Tinkpad Yoga 260 is deteriorating - key by key, stops working - I have to to hit them extremely hard to get it to work - more and more keys work like this. I've tried to call support over and over again and before I reach a person the menu system hangs up - over and over again. I'm desperate and fedup. Its only one year + old. Yes I use it a lot and I've only had thinkpads since 2003. This is the worst Thinkpad product I've had - that is - all the others have been great. I believe the whole keyboard must be exchanged, after only one year - key by key stops working!!! And I cannot get hold of support. Please anybody out there with some good advice. Spent a fortune on this machine - have to find a solution. Thanks in advance for help.

Hi
Welcome to the forums.
Can you please post the full model version of your Thinkpad Yoga? it may be a long number.
How is the keyboard loacked, it does not work all the keys, or you are only having problems with the fn keys?

Can you check on "Control Panel - Keyboard". According to the Thinkpad model there is a third tab that controls the fn - Ctrl swatp function. Maybe you have the fn key swapted with the Ctrl key.

hey everyone,  I recently started having problems with my yoga keyboard after i updated the bios through lenovo update. i also downloaded  a bunch of windows updates but i did a system restore to try and get rid of those. anyways, the computer always thinks shift and the fn key are pressed down, such that caps lock, fn, and everything else is swtiched. additionally, sometimes the backspace key ,tab, caps lock and various keys, mostly in the middle of the board, won'twork. alternatively, the backspace key gets stuck and deletes everything i have written.weirdly, these problems are mitigated if the on-screen keyboard is running in the background. i am at my wits end, i have no idea  if this is a harware problem, a bios problem, or what! should i get the keyboard replaced? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I have a ThinkPad Yoga S1. The keyboard sometimes becomes unresponsive, while the external keyboard still works fine. The keyboard revives after going to sleep mode. I have had this issue since the beginning (2 month ago). The fact that it still works fine with the external keyboard incriminates the driver. But all drivers are up to date. (I made all the updates I could find.) And in the device manager, the status reads « This device is working properly ». Anyone else having the same issue, ... and its solution? Thanks,JC

I have a Thinkpad Yoga 12 model. It is using Windows 10. What is the driver/software I should check to make sure I'm running the latest version for the equivalent of what used to be called "Transitions"?  Basically something that recognizes various keyboard configurations such as tablet mode, tent mode, etc. and appropriately disables or re-enables the keyboard? Two things happened last night as I was playing a game in tent mode:- firstly I could not get the screen to rotate 180 degrees when I switched from tablet mode to normal laptop mode by rotating the keyboard and flipping to normal orientation.  So everything was displayed upside-down.- the keyboard was unresponsive, but I could use the touch screen fine and use the Windows button under the screen to get to the Start menu.   So basically somehow something stopped responsing that should have told the system that I flipped the laptop from tent mode to normal mode and also rotated the keyboard forward.

Hello all, Every once in a while my keyboard and mouse will randomly cut out. this hardly happened when i first bought the laptop (like twice total in the first 6 months) and now its happening very very frequently. when they cut out sometimes i have to put the computer to sleep and open it and it works. sometimes it keeps happening all day. sometimes it stops abruptly without moving the laptop. most of the time though they work if i hold the computer on a 30 degree incline. i just changed my digitizer assist sensor card with one i purchased on ebay but the issue didnt go away with that.  Any ideas? -thanks!-Cay

Hello, I finally got my new Thinkpad Yoga S1, but there seem to be some issues with the NFC module. After startup, if I open the device manager it looks fine, but after a few minutes the "NFC proximity device" driver status changes to shows "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)". Under Details > Problem Code it says "0000002B", and under Details > Problem Status "The Request is not supported/C00000BB". In the System Event Log I am also getting a few "BcmNfcIc driver has failed initializing NFC device." errors at the time it fails. If I do a right-click > Disable and then right-click > Enable on the device, it works again for a few minutes, but then shows the same error again. I'm using Windows 8.1, fully updated with Windows update, and all drivers/BIOS updated using the Lenovo tool. The NFC driver is version 1.1.0.3130 from 17/12/2013. I also had an issue where the Lenovo QuickControl together with "Windows Driver Foundation - User-Mode Driver" background process took up 95% of the CPU time all the time, which I solved by deinstalling QuickControl. I'm thinking the two issues might be related, with the QuickControl trying to unsuccesfully poll the NFC device. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Jan

Hello, I just registered here yesterday because I am having lot's of troubles with my Thinkpad Yoga (i7, hdd+ssd). Starting from the delivery which was postponed for several days (day by day) I ve been having many unexpected troubles with my first Lenovo Thinkpad..... Right after having it for 2 weeks, the keyboard stopped working. First some keys where giving constantly letters to the laptop and then they stopped working. The funny thing was that only some keys did not work anymore. A repair center replaced the keyboard due to warranty, but there the problem got only slightly better.  After the repair the keyboard backlight does not work anymore and neither the trackball. Additionally I had to install all my software again because something with the mapping table was wrong... The repair shop told me they gonna check it again which is nice of course, but on the other hand I never had so many issues with a Laptop within the first two months...  4 days ago the keys F9 to F12 stopped working again and today the Laptop was totally unresponsive and seemed to be switched off but instead it was getting very hot. I was not able to reset or switch it off in any way and the only option I had was to take some external fans and wait for the battery to die...  Afterwards it all seemed well again.... Has anybody had similiar issues and has recommendations for me how to prevent further troubles with that laptop?... Hello Everyone! I have scoured the chats and have not seen a resolution for a partially working keyboard. I have a 3-yr old Thinkpad Yoga (20CD00B1US) running windows 10 (Computer was installed with 8.1). The 10 install was done months ago. Yesterday, part of my keys (entire qwerty row, Shift keys, Enter Key, Ctrl keys, and the Tab key just to name a few) decided to stop working. Note that the online keyboard functions fine, hence why I can type this message. I am unable to go to Bios because all the keys needed are not functioning and I do not have access to an external keyboard. This is my only only computer in the home. I have tried the following: 1. Fn+k =lock screen to see if that was enabled. 2.Accessed my accessibily menu to see if the keyboard screen had unneccessary toggles. Nothing is toggled. 3. Downloaded Talent Driver to see if I had outdated drivers. I have 2. Intel HD Graphics Family in 20.19.15.4549; and, Touchpad Synaptics Pointing in 19.3.4.86, although I am not sure how these will help with the keyboard issue. Please note, I can not go into BIOS because the necessary keys are not functionin. With this information, can anyone discern if this is a software or hardware issue. This will let me know if I can fix myself or take it to a certified Lenovo repair place. Thanks from Minnesota!!

I updated to Windows 10 last night on my brand new TPY 14 and afterwards the keyboard, trackpad and trackpoint don't work. In fact, as far as I can tell, only the function key works -- at least, turning on the keyboard backlight (fn-space) does. I've tried updating drivers but it says it's up to date. The Device Manager says the keyboard is working fine but it says that "Thinkpad UltraNav" cannot start (code 10), with this explanation: "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API". Can anyone  give my any suggestions on this? It's pretty frustrating to have the keyboard die less than a day after buying the computer.

Hello people! Last time I went  to US, I've bought this machine from Amazon: Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga Signature Edition - 12.5" 2-in-1 Touchscreen Notebook PC - Intel i5 Haswell / 8GB RAM / 128GB SSD / WiFi / Webcam / Windows 8.1 - Black I love it! At least until two weeks ago... after a windows/lenovo update things starts to be really hard. My keyboard and mousepad simple don't work anymore, totally unresponsive. If I hit "del" to access the bios, the keyboard does work, after that, when windows is loading and fully loaded, I've got only the "tablet" mode.  The only thing that works correctly is the touchscreen, as it only recognize itself as a tablet, not as a ultrabook. The screen also rotates automatacly when windows is fully loaded, so I have to use the tent mode with an external usb keyboard/mouse or type in the screen keyboard... I leave in Brazil, got in contact with lenovo suport team here, after a lot of procedures, that didn't solve the problem, they told me to get in contact with lenovo US and ask for an original dvd recovery. Is there anyone with a different approach to solve this problem?

I have a problem with my Thinkpad Yoga 460 which started to occur about 2 weeks ago. Sometimes after bootup the keyboard does not work when I have to supply my passphrase for the hard disk encryption. The solution I have in this situation is to turn the battery of in the UEFI setup. Then pressing the power button for 10 seconds and then enabling the battery again with the power cable. This works reliable to fix the issue, but it is very annoying and when I am at the university there is no socket to enable the battery again. Is something broken or is there a workaround for this issue?

Hi
Welcome to the forums.

I'm not sure what can be the issue, but can you try checking the "Lenovo Settings" application to check if your keyboard backlight turns on?
?
The Lenovo Settings is on the Windows Store , but you also need to install the Dependecy Package.

But just checking the support site I found there is a BIOS update that says:
(1.08)
- (Fix) Fixed an issue that "Fn + Space" cannot control KB backlight after exit shipping mode.

Please double check if this is your model support site. Maybe you should apply that BIOS update too.

I hope this helps.

Hi everybody, At my job we are working with yoga 2, i have found something annoying and i was wondering is there is a solution for this problem. Most of the time we go to customers and give a presentation from the yoga in this manner that we lay the yoga folded flat on the table (its on a counter so the customer is on the other side), so when i start typing on the keyboard it wont work all the time wich is very annoying. I guess Lenovo coded the keyboard to disable after the screen is folded at a certain angle, but when its laying flat on the table the keyboard should still work in my oppinion? Is there a workaround for this problem, or does lenovo knows about this issue? I would really like to know if this is hardcoded or if you can choose the angle of disabling the keyboard.

Hi, I just bought a ThinkPad Yoga 460 and I have a strange problem. The internal keyboard does not work any more across operating systems, so this isn't software specific. However, the keyboard *does* work in the beginning a cold start until the operating system boots - I can enter the BIOS settings, navigate around there, I can enter the onboard diagnostics utility, everything works fine - until an operating system boots. If I just reboot without turning the computer off, the internal keyboard doesn't work. I even restored factory settings, so I am writing this from an Ubuntu Live USB with an external keyboard until I have figured out how to restore EFI, but the keyboard still isn't working. The problem occured after a long time of using only the external keyboard, so I can't exactly tell what I was doing when it happened. I'm guessing it has to do with the rotation sensor being stuck, but what would be the point of disabling the keyboard if it's physically impossible to press any buttons in tablet mode... Also, the touch pad keeps working anyway. I removed Windows from the laptop and I don't think there'd be an easy way to get it back, so I hope any solutions would work on Linux too. Best regards,Malte

So I was using my Lenovo Yoga 2 laptop for a study session. My keyboard was working fine the last time I used it, which was like ten minutes before it stopped working. Nothing on my keyboard is working, including the F controls/shortcuts. The ThinkPad is working normally and so is its corresponding right/left keys. The screen is also fine and the touch screen keyboard is working as well. My laptop isn't in tablet mode or any other mode other than laptop mode.  So basically, has anyone else had this problem and possibly share their wisdom. Also, if there are basic shortcuts that simply turn off your keyboard and can turnit back on, it'd be quite helpful, because there could be a simple fix but I wouldn't be aware since I am not very tech savvy.  Thank you so much!

Hello, On my new TPY 20CD001UK the keyboard and trackpad seem to freeze very often. All dirvers are updated. The digitizer and touchpad continue working when the trackpad and keyboard become unresponsive. Occasionally the keyboard will lag and dump all entered text after it unfreezes. Is there any fix for this?

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga Mouse / Keyboard freezing

is your ThinkPad Yoga a model with platter hdd? Also, is this behaviour consistent in different power model (i.e. high performance vs energy saver).

I was wondering if there is a way to unhinge the locking mechanism on the TPY and enable the keyboard to work when it is in tablet mode. I want to do this so I can hook up to my TPY to my monitor, foldback the TPY screen, and then use the TPY as a keyboard.  Also, is there a way to make the power button functional when the TPY is closed shut? When my computer goes to sleep when I'm hooked up to my monitor and BT keyaborad and mouse, I have to open the laptop to power it back on, kind of annoying. Thanks in advance

While I love the protection of the keyboard on the ThinkPad Yoga, I really hope future versions include more key travel. The current keyboard is frustrating. The trackpad is LOUD.  Really? VERY LOUD. Distracting to the passenger on the plane next to me. He asked if I had a broken key. Fantastic machine, but the keyboard and trackpad need work. JIM

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga: Needs a better keyboard & quiet trackpad

Hi Jim,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Thanks for your feedback regarding ThinkPad Yoga and I appreciate the thoughts shared.

While I think Lenovo still has an amazing build quality and the machines are tank-like in durability, people make comparisons within the same series. Many people have favorite features or design elements on a particular model, and because they value that, the design directions for new models may be seen as better or worse. Hopefully, our engineers will take the suggestions to concern while designing upcoming machines.

Regarding the trackpad clicking noise, Check if the sound is mechanical from the device itself and not related to the speakers at all.  If it is mechanical, possibly something is loose under the touchpad.
I strongly recommend you to contact our technical support for assistance.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

Best Regards,

HiI am used to T420, 450 laptops, and looking for Yoga with similar easy type keyboard (good key travel, less actuation force) and easy on eyes screen anti-glare/matte.  Seems like they don't make matte displays now. How does the  keyboard and display ona) X1 yogab) thinkpad yoga 460 compare with T420/T450 laptops? 2) How does a anti-glare screen protector compare with display already built with anti-glare? 3) How does the older matte displays compare with the new anti-glare IPS/LED backlights  Thanks

Anyone got an issue with the keyboard? Sometimes when I type using the keyboard, it make a sound, coming from the speaker. I have no idea what happen. The keyboard function as normal, apart from making random noise through the speaker somehow. And it happens for the alphabet buttons only. I tried to pinpoint what makes the noise and if certain buttons trigger it, but so far, looks like it is random and any button can trigger it.

Hi all, I'm hoping desperately you can help. The touchpad on my ThinkPad Yoga has always been iffy, since I got it, in the sense, that it seems to randomly turn itself off, especially if windows has applied an update. In the past I've been able to enable it again, but not this time. Today I went to use my laptop and the touchpad didn't respond. In the Lenovo message centre it said it was disabled (although I didn't disable it). I looked up how to enable it and ended up in the device manager. In the touchpad properties it said: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24) But when I looked at the other options and asked it to update drivers, it said it was already enabled and that the drivers were up to date.  So I googled more and the info seemed to indicate to uninstall the drivers, then reinstall them. So I uninstalled them, and downloaded some from the Lenovo site to reinstall. When reinstalling though, it won't work. It says the touchpad doesn't exist. Indeed now in the device manager the touchpad isn't listed, but it does say PS/2 compatible mouse there instead. This also has the same error message in the properties: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24) In the Lenovo message centre it now also says that this is disabled too.  I've redownloaded and installed the drivers fro... Read more

Hello. I am having serious problems with my Thinkpad Yoga(20CD0038GE) Touchpad. I'm on the newest driver (18.0.7.40) and on Windows 8.1 Update 1. Very often after starting up the laptop the touchpad doesn't recognize any movement so the cursor stays still. However I can still scroll with two fingers. If I start Synmood.exe I can see that it actually does recognize touch input but the cursor does not move. Also the touchpad is not listed in the touchpad settings then. A restart seems to solve this but doing this every time is very time consuming and distracting. Also very often the two finger right click option disables itself without any reason. I couldn't reproduce this as it always happens at a random time. I always have to go back to the Touchpad settings and recheck the two finger right click option. Scrolling is very bugged and inconsistent. In Firefox it is very laggy and slow whereas in Internet Explorer it's very fluid. In Steam it doesn't work at all. Sometimes the Synaptics drivers won't load at all and I have to manually start them to get access to all the gestures. Even then it may not work and I have to restart the whole laptop. I already reinstalled the drivers two times to see if it gets better but it doesn't change. Downgrading to an older driver brings up different problems which are even worse. All this is very annoying distracting and hinders me from doing my work. I want to know if there other people with similar issues a... Read more

Hi,I have a 2nd generation Thinkpad Yoga 12.5 inch notebook. I have had this computer for about 18 months and the screen is completely ruined in many places. I have the matte screen and it appears that the pen has been scratching the soft matte finnish at many places. There are also big smudges from the keyboard that does not go away when I try to clean the screen. I am happy with this laptop overall, but I think it is terrible design to fail to make sure that the screen and keyboard is not touching when the lid is closed! Is it possible to fix these screen issues? Looking at the corner of the the screen, it looks like there is a screenprotector or similar on the device. Is this how Lenovo makes their matte screens? Just pasting a screen protector on top of a glossy screen? If so, would it be possible for me to remove it without damaging the actual screen and get rid of the scratches and smudges? Cheers Cheers

Hi there, I just bought a brandnew Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga (i7 with Digitizer) with the integrated "Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260" Wifi Module. It communicates with a FritzBox 7390 router. I ran the "Lenovo System Update 5" and installed all the drivers. No mather what I did, I had wifi issues. 1-5 Mbps max (~50 Mbps possible).. every 5 Minutes the connection to the router was lost... Common problems a lot of users are experiencing. After that I downloaded the driver from the Lenovo Support site. It had a newer signature... but still the same problems.  I found out, that the new driver, that I found at the Intel Support Page, solves my issues. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=24460  So for anyone who has the same annyoing issues, remove your driver, and install the one from Intel. And for the Lenovo Support.Could you Update the driver, in your "System Updater" Programm and on the Webpage?Atleast for me, the outdated driver is producing a lot of problems.  Just wanted to shareDan

Hello. I have purchased a Lenovo ThinkPad couple of weeks ago and am struggling to get TouchPad working properly since then. What I want to achieve is a flawless TouchPad experience, which includes:Right button click with two fingers only, right click zone disabled;Natural vertical scrolling;Natural ?back? and ?forward? three-finger swipe (i. e. left to right ? backward). On the first boot-up my laptop updated UltraNav drivers to the latest version from Lenovo support site. It?s version 17.0.12.60 from January 14 2014. This driver is not stable at all and has various issues and drawbacks:Metro apps are crashing when scrolling (Twitter, Facebook etc); You need to click and activate the scrolling zone, hovering the cursor over it is not enough. As a result in start menu tiles are selected successively while scrolling (white border around), and you can?t check several tiles if you need to scroll; It?s impossible to disable the right-click zone; When scrolling in classic-UI apps the cursor sometimes changes to an arrow with a scrollbar. This inconsistency is annoying.Driver tuning window is all crippled, labels are not formatted properly, and some of them are not visible; It is impossible to change to natural backward and forward swipe.I then downgraded to Lenovo?s driver 17.0.9 as of October 25 2013. It performs better but still has all issues of 17.0.12.60 apart from Metro apps crashing.I decided to download and install the original driver from Synaptics web si... Read more

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga TouchPad Issues

I've done furhter researching and found out some other strange Lenovo's TouchPad driver behaviour. In any verion you can't simply change registry values to fine tune TouchPad. Every single value is overwritten by Rundll32.exe and SynTPEnh.exe each time the system starts or mouse settings opened. As a result you can't disable right button (ExButton4Action key). Version 17.0.9 does not make Metro apps crash and scrolling works without activating selection (no white border around tiles). It also disables right button for both one- and two-finger click if you turn off two-finger click.

Answer:Thinkpad yoga 14 little issues after windows 10

Hi danielmb007 It took me some time to stabilize Windows 10 on the TPY 14 (20DM008UUS). I went into a "driver updating rampage" for it and I have it stabilized right now. This are my tips to update the drivers on my Thinkpad Yoga, but you can decide how deep you want to go for driver updating:1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers. This will be the Lenovo supported drivers, but if you want to look for other update drivers directly from the manufacturer (AS IS) you can try:5) Depending on the machine chipset/processor, you can try Intel Driver Update Utility, or AMD Update Utility.6) I also like to use DriverEasy, which offers a a decent driver update recognition for free, but also tries to sell you the full version. Just be warned that the drivers that are not from the Lenovo support site are "AS IS" and under your own risk, I install them since I'm confortable installing, and un-installing Windows drivers, remember that a wrong driver may turn up Windows un-usable. Regards

I recently bought a Thinkpad Yoga and found a few issues primarily in the trackpad. The trackpad appears to have a matte finish which greatly increases the friction between my finger and the trackpad itself. This supposed glass trackpad is not smooth and causes jumps and waves when making diagonal lines specifically. Can someone please try making a slow 45 degree line in paint or something and see how straight it comes out? I want to know if i'm the only person here or if it's a common issue.

Hi I purchased a Thinkpad Yoga for use as my main work PC nd took out extended cover. i was initially pleased with my purchase but found the i7/8GB/1T HDD was slow and unresponsive which i suspect is the HDD. After a while the laptop failed to go into hibernate and when i went to get it from my laptop case it was extremely hot, the lenovo logo affixed to the wristwrest had fell off and so had a rubber foot. The laptop continued to get very warm in use and Lenovo send an engineer to replace the cooling fan. Lenovo were unable to replace the rubber feet or the logo because these dont have a SKU which is ridiculous. This means the laptop is not stable on a desk and the ground clearance is inconsistent and may be causing further overheatingI went to continue an important work project today and have been greeted with HDD 0 not found. It would appear the main hard disk has failed causing me to lose some data..and yes I know a backup is my responsibilityHaving purchased the mot expensive Yoga at the time I am extremely disappointed with the reliability of what I thought was a road warriors laptop.I am wondering if my early adoption of the Yoga was a mistake or whether they are all unreliable and look forward to any replies thanks

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga WiFi issues?

I am having issues with a ThinkPad Yoga model 20C0. It is very selective on what WiFi network it would connect to. Sometimes it goes on Limited Connectivity and does not conenct to anything until you disable and enable Wi-Fi.  In some cases it will connect to a WiFi network and other people would be knock out of the network, in other cases it will connect and after a few minutes the connection will drop and will not reconnect after a reboot. According to an article that reviews the ThinkPad Yoga, it is a Windows 8 (or 8.1) issue that happens also on other machines. Link to article: http://www.mobiletechreview.com/notebooks/Lenovo-ThinkPad-Yoga.htm

Hello, Just wondering of anyone on the forum or someone from Lenovo can help. I am not technologically savy and mostly just a user of Microsoft software. My wireless connection on my new Thinkpad Yoga is slow and cannot stream media such as I Player or I Player radio without stopping. My four years old sony vaio laptop has no problem doing these things. I've read on the forum that deleting the Lenovo EMC Storage Connector helps. I have done this but the connection is still poor. I then phoned Lenovo technical support, they asked me to re-download the wireless driver and hot key driver and then try the wireless connection on a different network to see if it is still slow and if it is contact them again. I will do this soon to test it. Does anyone have any other ideas what could be the problem. I really like the Thinkpad Yoga and it would be ashame to take it back if this can't be fixed. Interestingly the technical support person did not know or acknowledge the problem with the Lenovo EMC Storage Connector. Hope someone can help. Many thanks.

Answer:Wifi issues with Thinkpad Yoga

Hello, Sorry to bump this up but I'm still hoping there might be some advice out there. I've tested the yoga thinkpad on two other wifi fibre optic broadband networks and it worked fine. On my own EE normal broadband it still struggles and can't play a 30 min I player programme without stopping every three minutes. What I don't understand is that my sony vaio laptop works fine on the same network. The other weird thing is when I do a speedtest on speednet.com, as it's downloading, the test file it shows speed of about 15 MBS (not bad) but it can't quite finish downloading the file, just hover there. No idea why, could this indicate a problem? I will contact EE technical support to see if there is anything their end. Cheers,James

I uninstalled the windows 8.1 that came with my Thinkpad Yoga to installe windows 7 64-bit because there was no support for Power Manager ( a tool that allows you to charge your battery only upto a certain percentage (eg 40%) which helps reduce battery aging when the notebook is mostly operated on AC power).Doing that required me to fully clean the Hard-disk during the installation process.I installed almost all of the drivers available on  http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...for thinkpad yoga and windows 7 64 bit.Happily, this provided me the Power manager, and I can use it just as I wanted. However, all these has brought in additional issues which are listed below:  1. The touch pad right click doesn't work. Only two finger tap works as right click.2. The touch pad gestures for zoom and scroll doesn't work at all.3. The screen auto-rotate doesn't work.4. The touch screen gesture for zoom doesn't work. I did install the ultra-nav and screen-rotate drivers, but I get error messages regarding synaptics ... not working and also sensor driver not working during the windows startup. Any help please? Thank you.

Answer:Issues with Thinkpad yoga on Windows 7 64-bit

Follow up: After going through windows update and installing windows 7 service pack 1, some of the issues have been resolved. The screen auto rotates based on device orientation. The two finger scroll and zoom works on the touchpad. The physical right click still doesn't work. (The two finger tap for right-click is working). One important feature that I still find mssing is that the two finger pinch to zoom doesn't work on the Touchscreen (it works in Touchpad though). So, when I am browsing websites on Tablet mode, there is no way to zoom in! Thanks.

My new model 20FY0002US Thinkpad Yoga 14 developed a problem with the keyboard. When switching from tablet to laptop screen rotation I heard a CLICK and the right side of the lift-and-lock keyboard got stuck. The button to the right of the delete key remains fully extended no matter the screen rotation and the keys on the right side dont work well. Basically they remain recessed because the interstitial plastic does not retract. Likewise the extended button prevents the screen from closing fully on the right side. Is this something that is fixable for a handy user or should I be returning the laptop to the retailer? Sadly i cannot afford to be without a computer for the time it would likely take to ship it in for repairs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am just wondering if anyone is experiencing a similar phenomenon with the backspace button (or any other), otherwise I have a faulty keyboard...I received my TPY on the 11th of March and have been using it lightly for about a week. First I thought it is something I need to get used to but over time it became clear that there is no way this could be normal on a £1200 laptop, especially from a product line legendary about its keyboard quality. Basically the problem is that out-of-the-box from the beginning the backspace felt a bit "wobbly" and "soft", not really having a definite pressure point especially around the edges. When it's being hit bang on in the upper middle segment and with considerable force (for normal typing) it clicks and works fine, but as soon as you catch the lower segment or anywhere around the edges, it does not give you a tactile feedback and does not respond - despite clicking - giving you the impression that it has "accepted" the command but actually not deleting.Other similar sized keys on the keyboard such as the shift, tab, capslock, enter or even the space depress evenly instead of sort of bending to the side even if they were hit around the edges, and also have a very definite feedback, once they have reached clicking point it's guaranteed that they execute the command/caracter - something I can not say for the backspace. In an everyday scenario especially when typing longer texts or passwords etc it is not realistic to be expected to ... I have a ThinkPad Yoga 14, which has a keyboard backlight that can be turned on and off by pressing Fn+Space. Recently I've found that if I turn it off, it sometimes stays on. In this state it will flicker when the computer is tapped or bumped, or just moved around, and when placed at certain angles it will stay off. If I turn it on, it stays on consistently ? it's only when it's set to off that it doesn't work right. It seems like there must be a loose connection in there or something. Does this sound like something that can be easily fixed?

Hello Lenovo forum, I require help with my new Lenovo thinkpad, a Yoga 12.I have an issue with the keyboard, it lacks keys that are required for efficient use. This is my only issue with the laptop but is enough to have me consider getting a refund. It should be possible to resolve these issues through software or registry hacks, I could use some suggestions as to how: 1. No numlock key, it would be great if I could put this on Fn+Delete and to put the numpad on Fn+{the usual keys every other laptop uses for these}2. Right ALT does not cause for different symbols as is usually the case3. There is no context menu key, would like to place this on the current PrtSc key4. left Ctrl and the Fn key should probably switch places(5. I could make do with Home and End being on left/right arrow keys) I've already been looking into ways to do this, all I've found out was a way to remap existing keys, but not to create new key combinations without continuously running software. Some help in getting these base necessities would be great, and hopefully my post will be less ignored than others complaining about the keyboard.

Figured out how to change the PrtSc to a Context Menu key. Just add the Binary value "00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 5D E0 37 E0 00 00 00 00" to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout" This swaps out the PrtSc function with the Menu. Also figured out that the Fn key is not actually a modifier but more of a macro key, if that wording makes sense to anyone. That is, Fn + F9 = Settings will actually perform Windows + i, this makes me feel like there should be some kind of built-in macro editor available somewhere.Sadly this also means that I can't figure out the scancode (if there even is one) for the Fn key, in order to switch it around with the Ctrl key or have it as an option for future considerations of 3rd party macro tools. I've found out that there are a total of 255 scancodes, which should correspond with keys/functions. There are a number of them that are unused, as a keyboard does not have 255 keys or even functions (includes use of modifiers) allotted. Hoping to figure out a way to assign a scancode to a key and bind a function to it, might require some nextlevel bios meddling afairs though. Things I'm still working out:-Fn macros: numpad, PrtSc on Fn+Del-Thought process behind putting a PrtSc where it was-AltGr not functioning as an AltGr If anyone has suggestions/help/thoughts/criticism, anything will help and I'm desperate.

Simultaniously my keyboard backlight, touchpoint and trackpad stopped working. They do not appear in device manager and reinstalling drivers did nothing. On Lenovos advice, I purchased replacement palmrest, trackpad, keyboard etc and fitted them successfully but this has made no difference. Could it be a power management issue? I've updated PM drivers. Motherboard damage? As far as I know no water or physical damage has occurred.

Hello Lenovo Forum, I installed Xubuntu on my Thinkpad Yoga 14 and one day I tried to poke around and click the mouse button during boot time. Then I had the magical on-screen virtual keyboard popping up on the GRUB menu. You can see a photo of the on screen virtual keyboard here: http://imgur.com/p6JUrQr I also give a video showing how to activate the keyboard: Basically, clicking left mouse button (either the one on the trackpoint or an external mouse can work) will bring up the virtual keyboard. You need to touch it quickly, because every time any content on the screen changes (in this video, that is the countdown which refreshes every second) the keyboard will disappear. Touching the a key on the Virtual keyboard is equivalent to pressing the corresponding physical key. In this video I clicked Down Arrow, Up Arrow and Enter and booted Xubuntu. The Keyboard shows only in the GRUB Menu, as far as I have tested. It does not pop up in BIOS even if you click the left mouse button in BIOS. Is there a more detailed description of this Keyboard available? I searched "Thinkpad Yoga 14 virtual keyboard grub" but got no useful results, so the Keyboard looks like a secret, an easter egg or some maintenance mode to me. Personally I think this keyboard will make it very convenient for those who use the Yoga in tent mode / presentation mode / tablet mode and need to reboot across Linux and Windows and have no external USB keyboard and do not want to co... Hey folks,Got the new Thinkpad Yoga14 with active pen. My os is windows 8.1. I installed the writeit app. Afterwards the onscreen keyboard doesnt pop up anymore. The icon for the keyboard in the windows taskbar is already grey, like its activated. But instead the onscreen keyboard isnt open or can be opened by clicking via digitizer/hand or mouse. It seems like the onscreen keyboard and the app writeit battle each other. I tried a bunch of drivers and options but it still doesnet work. Only option is to deinstall the writeit app. Afterwards the onscreen keyboard pops up normally.Do you have a tip.Ps: i dont want to instal windows 10Thx and have a nice day

I have a Yoga Thinkpad 14 which was purchased on Jan 6 2016 from Lenovo. So the thinkpad is still under warranty. Lately, I have been experiencing random shutdowns and keyboard lockups. I am just browsing as normal. This used to be fine but not is problematic. I'm receiving 3-4 shutdowns a day. The battery is fully powered and it doesn't matter if the power cord is attached or not. It's not a sleep issue or lid closing issue. It just happens to lockup or shutdown and I don't know when it will do it. I ran the LSC diagnostics and everything was fine. No error codes. I think this might be a hardware issue as no new software or hardware has been loaded and it's been ok for 6 months until now. I can submit a service request but before I do that, are there any suggestions ?

Hi everybody,  this is maybe a simple and stupid question but I won't do anything wrong. One of my keyboard keys does not work correctly, I think there is something under the key which is blocking because when I press the key I feel a stronger resistance than on the other keys. Sometimes I need to press the key 3 or 4 times before the letter is written - realy annoying Obviously I should remove the key and clean it or remove whatever is under the key. Since my ThinkPad Yoga is quite new I don't want to damage it or lose my warrenty through "learning by doing"... So can anybody tell me how to remove a key from the ThinkPad Yoga keyboard correctly and reassemble it correctly as well? -> without any damage  Reagards,Ben

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga - Keyboard key stucks -> how to remove it correctly

Hardware manual can be found here; http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=UM019563 however due to the nature of the TPY keyboard I would suggest getting lenovo involved under warreny / consumer law in your country.

My dad got a Thinkpad Yoga 14 about a month ago and he usually uses his laptop at a 90 degree angle in bed. So when he is on his side, the laptop is on it's side as well. When he does that with the Thinkpad Yoga, the touchpad and the keyboard are disabled and he cannot use the laptop like he wants to. I think because it's a setting to not accidentally touch the keyboard or mouse when using it in tablet mode.I cannot find any setting on how to stop Windows from disabling the touchpad and keyboard on rotate. I've turned off auto-rotate but can't see anything else. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I just bought my yoga 12 thinkpad with windows 10 and the mouse has just stopped working/disappears. i have tried messing with the drivers, and I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Point Device Driver from Synoptics multiple times. Its giving me a code 10 on the driver (I believe meaning it can't talk to the rest of the computer) and everytime I try to update the drivers nothing happens (i think because I just downloaded the driver off the website). Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks,  Patrick

Hi I own a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 12 i5 180GB laptop/2-in-1. Sometimes, the CPU fan will just turn off completely, especially when the CPU is under heavy load. I am a content creator, and I use this computer for the bulk of my encoding jobs. Sometimes, when I am rendering or encoding, or even just scripting. Also, the battery is only charging to 41480 mWh instead of the designed 47060. What is happening? i have owned this for 1.5 years.

My Thinkpad Yoga 14 is now basically a standalone CPU, and not a laptop/tablet since my Windows 10 upgrade.  The speakers did not work -- that was easy to fix.  The keyboard on the laptop will not work, and the tablet will not rotate.  I have tried so many suggestions to fix it, but it is now rendered just a cpu with external keyboard, mouse and monitor.  This is very disappointing.  Any ideas on how to fix the keyboard and tablet rotation features?

Will my Thinkpad X-1 Yoga allow me to  use a headset that incorporates a USB port?  Best Buy had no single plug, 4-pole headsets, but sold me a Logitech h390 USB headset saying that it should work.  Waiting to open package until I can verify that this laptop allow the USB connection.  Can anyone provide the answer?   [Am frustrated........my 'older' desktop has dual plugs for a headset]

I have two problems i amd struggling to get support from Lenovo on..  1. When i connect my P40 Yoga to a 2nd Display and set my desktop to extended mode. When ever i right-click the 'context' menu that appears is not in the same location as where the stylus is. It appears to be offset based on the amount of total desktop space (becuase its extended) rather than just the actualy lenovo laptop screen. (which is the only screen thats compatible with the stylus). Any suggestions? 2. This one has only started happening recently. The Wacom service: Tablet Service for ISD Driver is constantly using 75% of my CPU and generally makes the device unusable. If i disable the service i am no longer able to use my stylus.. (which is the whole point for buying this laptop at $2000!). It continues to use 75% of my CPU no matter what i do (even when not using the stylus). It appears to use more and more memory over time as well.. Who should be fixing this Lenovo or Wacom?  ?

Answer:Lenovo Yoga Thinkpad - Headset issues

Good day and welcome to the community.I can't comment on the USB headset question, but if you've got an older, dual-plug headset that you'd like to use, then you might explore getting a combo-jack splitter as described in this KB article: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Displays-Options-and-Accessories/Microphone-Headset-Jack-splitter-neede...

Hope this helps a bit.Regards.

... and some more issues with the Pro Dock. I have a Dell U3014 connected via Display Port. Resolution works fine, however... : 1) Dell Display Manager stopped working and reported "attach compatible LCD to your PC." This software is quite important to me and since DP is supposed to be "native" I can't find a reason why it shouldn't work. 2) I experience stuttering while dragging windows. The mouse feels a little bit sluggish as well. Definitely a noticeable difference as opposed to connecting the LCD and devices directly to the Yoga. Help would be much appreciated (and have a look here as well...fan noise: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/Thinkpad-Yoga-S1-12-5-quot-fan-noise-weird-stylus... Thanks, SF6

Answer:Thinkpad S1 Yoga + OneLink Pro Dock issues

I can confirm that Dell Display Manager is not good with my config also - OneLink (basic) connected to Dell U2412M via DVI.  Can't tell the difference compared to direct connection to laptop though (don't have miniHDMI adapter). @SFsix, sorry about this offtopic question, but do you have any problems with random disconnection/connection of OneLink Pro from TPY, more specifically for Ethernet and USB interfaces. More details here: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Options-Accessories/Re-OneLink-network-port-flapping/td-p/1358947 it's a pretty long thread already but in brief all users of OneLink basic non-Pro (myself included) report this problem for constant disconnect and re-connect of OneLink interface. So we were wondering if OneLink Pro users experience this problem... Will appreciate your feedback.

We have 20+ThinkPad S1 Yoga?s (20C0-A01TUS). We clone one original OOBE image to restore the other systems back to factory original once they return. The cloned systems fail to load the wireless driver after restart. I have never encountered this with other systems (including systems with the AC-7260 adapter running 8 or 8.1). This is unfortunately not always consistent. Event Viewer shows:NETwNb64 ? ?Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260: Could not allocate the resources necessary for the operation.?NETwNb64 ? ?Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260: The version number is incorrect for this driver.? ? I have used the Lenovo update utility to update the driver to 16.6 ? still does not work? I have removed all drivers and installed 16.6 driver from Intel's site. ? still does not work? I can get the system to recognize the wireless by Disabling and Re-enabling the device in Device Manager. Once I restart the unit the driver will not reload.? I have updated the BIOS on the test system to the most recent revision (1.08) ? still does not work? NOTE: I can consistently get the wireless device to work by going into the BIOS and switching OFF Secure Boot and changing the Startup to UEFI/Legacy Boot to Both (Legacy First). This is not the Default mode. Again, this does work consistently.? I have used Clonezilla (Legacy boot)? I have 32x UEFI booted to USB and ran Ghost 11.5 -ir (Image Raw)? So I'm really at a loss with this issue.  I've done so much troubleshooting to no avail.  Removed soundcard and bluetooth and reinstalled.  Installed new drivers.  Deleting and repairing devices. Changing the WiFi to "Prefer 5.2GHz band".  Other troubleshooting based on discussions on other forums... The Problem. Brand new Thinkpad P71.  I have two of the same external speakers I've used with my iPhone via Bluetooth to stream audio and never had a problem.  The speakers are the Oontz 3XL. When I connect with my P71, it can go 24 hours or two minutes, but it will just suddenly stop playing audio.  The blue light on the speaker will turn off.  To get it to work again, I'll have to close the audio app and reconnect the Bluetooh.  Then it will run for anywhere from one minute to 24 hours and disconnect again. I also just bought a brand new Thinkpad X1 Yoga (2nd gen).  Exact same problem.  Did all the same troubleshooting. I mostly stream Sirius XM from a browser (and have tried different browsers as well).  I also play audio from iTunes.  The weird thing with iTunes is that when this happens, the Play/Pause button in the software will also stop working, unless I close the app and restart. It's definitely a Lenovo problem, since I am encountering the same problem on both systems.  I don't know if this could be related to BitDefender and/or Malware Bytes (both are inst... I've recently updated my Thinkpad Yoga S1 to Windows 10, and it was giving me a lot of issues. I've since switched back to Windows 8.1 and I'm appalled to see that these issues now carried over back into Windows 8.1. I had the common problem of the trackpad not working when I woke my laptop up from sleep mode, and I also had my trackpoint failing to even register. Additionally, when the trackpad did work, it would be laggy/choppy and basically unbearable to use. Any thoughts on a solution to this problem? I've updated the synaptic drivers more times than I can count...

I just purchased a X1 Yoga 2nd Gen with a high-end configuration.  In theory, this is my ideal computer for home (which includes a lot of computer modeling work in evenings and weekends).

But I just returned it because I was experiencing a cascade of mostly mouse-related issues.  At times, these issues all affected the TrackPoint, TouchPad an X1 external travel mouse, so they were not device-specific.

I first noticed the mouse would freeze, and display a tiny scroll-bar pointer.  When I'd try to move the mouse, the scroll bar gliff would shift from vertical to horizontal, etc... but the mouse would not move and could not be used.  I would have to force a reboot and repeat until the problem went away.  I seemed to minimize this problem by changing a mouse setting in Devices / Mouse Properties / Thinkpad.  Under Enable TrackPoint, I changed the Middle Button Action to "Use as middle click".  This seemed to improve things...

But then the mouse started rapidly drifting across the screen, and this drifting process would go on and on until I rebooted (often several times).  When the mouse was drifting -- always towards the upper-right -- it was essentially impossible to use the computer.

I also found that the mouse buttons would quit working frequently.  This was most common when I had other processes running.  But the CPU (and memory) was far from maxed out -- I had it at 30-40%.  This pro... Read more
