Thinkpad yoga 12 - No microphone installed - windows 10

Question: Thinkpad yoga 12 - No microphone installed - windows 10

I reset my yoga 12 to factory settings and upgraded to windows 10. After booting up I removed a bunch of bloatware and I think I removed something important because I just noticed that there is no microphone in the device manager. How do I get it back?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey, I have this problem too, sort of. I've had my yoga 12 for about a month now and the internal microphone is no longer showing up in the device manager. Not only that, but my computer won't even detect an external microphone. I don't know that it's a problem with something you deleted (at least assuming we are having the same problem) because I didn't do that. I know this is a long way of saying I have no idea how to help you, but at least you know you aren't the only one? I've tried reinstalling drivers and I can't think of what else to do.

I've just recently recieved my brand new Thinkpad Yoga, and everything seems to be ok except the microphone. Under Recording Devices of Windows 8.1, the meter is showing no activitiy even with the boost and volume turned right up. Apps like Skype etc are showing no audio being received either. I've uninstalled the audio drivers completely and reinstalled which has made no difference. The driver reports that everything is ok too. I ran through the windows audio troubleshooting tool which reports no issues as well though it is clearly not working. Any suggestions of have I received an expensive duff laptop?

Hello, I've got a problem with my Integrated Camera drivers/ Audio drivers. I believe the driver should be for the integrated camera, as microphone is on the same board. Anyway, after switching to Windows 10, my microphone stopped working. I've downloaded the driver from the website but the installation was stopped by either message "This app doesn't work on Windows10" or "Device not found" (I assume the microphone as the camera works.) When I go to skype settings and choose the microphone, the field is stated as "NONE" . Could someone give me information about what is going on, as it is really annoying? Thanks

Does anybody else got that problem?? Do you have any solution?? Please..Still to that date, when I try to install the drivers it shows that the version is not compatable.

Hi there, I turned on my thinkpad yoga the other morning and it would not boot into windows 8. It displays a black screen for a while and then returns to the boot device screen. I have tried to reinstall both windos 8 and linux on the the ssd using a usb bootable install drive. Both systems install but they fail to boot, displaying a black screen and then returning to the boot device list when it fails. I have also tried with a new ssd and it gets the same problem. I am able to boot to a complete usb linux system which fully operates. Does anyone know where the problem might lie? Thanks, Richard

Hello, I got a Yoga S1 and running a partition programme I can see that it's got these 2 entries:* 465.76 GB, Basic GPT - with partitions: System_Drv, Windows, Lenovo_Recovery* 14.91  GB, Basic GPT - with the complete space used. I guess this 14.91 refers to the M2 SSD card, but I was wondering, what is taking that space? ie, the OS and all the data and storage is in the other HDD, so what could be taking all the space? And thinking about its purpose, if I buy a 128 GB M2 SSD card and replace the existing one, how would this space be used? ie, what's the difference that I could notice as at the moment I am not able to even access that M2 drive from my windows, so not sure what could be the benefit if I put something bigger there? Many thanks!!

Problem:My Yoga Thinkpad 12 reports that there are no audio devices installed. The sound was working up until recently and I'm not sure what might have caused the problem. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Conexant drivers several times now: no options show up in the select audio devices dialogue.  There are no broken devices showing in device manager, and it reports that the drivers are functioning and up-to-date.  Even when I plug in a USB headset, the sound doesn't output through it.  Any ideas? Thanks.

Greetings, Lenovo community. I've had this laptop (ThinkPad Yoga 14, running 64-bit Windows 8.1) for about four years, and, for the past few months, I've been having small issues with my audio. However, when I restarted my laptop, I was greeted with several issues. Firstly, I have no audio, period. Secondly, the computer isn't recognizing the built-in speakers or the headphone jack as being installed. And thirdly, in the Device Manager, neither the speakers nor the headphone jack are listed, and the Realtek HD Audio device under the 'Sound, video, and game controllers' submenu has been replaced with 'Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus'. I have a huge problem with my Thinkpad Yoga. Ever since i installed Adobe Photoshop CC, this issue occurs when I use an external monitor (I use the HDMI-mini port): When my Yoga have been idle for some time in Windows 8.1 and should have gone into either "turn off pc screen mode" or "sleep mode", it just freezes up and the Yoga becomes unresponsive! The only solution is to kill the pc holding the power button, then start the Yoga over again. I believe this problem is related to the graphics driver. I have tried the latest graphics drivers available from lenovo support site, I have tried the latest drivers from Intel and I have the latest update of Adobe Photoshop CC. I still have not managed to resolve this issue. Need help!

Hello there,After experiencing dropping network connections under Windows XP I've upgraded to Windows 7. The laptop is running nicely, and everything is working (including audio), except the microphone. This is a little frustrating as I use Skype for work. When I look the recording devices, the microphone is listed as currently unavailable:No devices appear to be disabled in the device manager:When I first installed Windows 7, it was a bit of a struggle getting some programs up and running. Audio was an issue, and I believe the drivers came down via Windows update (although I also tried installing the ones from the Lenovo website so I'm not sure now which actually worked).I'm at a loss for what else to do, except go back to Windows XP - but I'm reluctant to do this as Windows 7 is working a lot better than I expected and fixed the previous problem with wireless networking via different PCMCIA cards. Any thoughts as to what else I can try? Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer!Regards,Stu.

hey moonklash, welcome to the forums.via device manager, uninstall the audio driver. this will then make windows install its own generic driver.once generic driver has been installed, test your mic and see if it works.if it does and the audio is fine, you can leave it as it is or you could head over to http://support.lenovo.com and install the audio driver that is available here.

I've had my thinkpad Edge 531 for about five months now, but this problem has always been there. In several applications (skype, youcam, sound recorder) the microphone would spontaneously go from being clear to inaudibly quiet and unclear. I have had this issue calling multiple and in talking to myself in test files. The volume I speak at has no impact on the issue, skype's volume is set to maximum with automatic volume adjustment shut off. Microphone settings within windows sound settings are also set to maximum with the maximum mic boost. None of this seems to help anything. I uninstalled the Lenovo communications utility completely as well. With all that said, I sent my laptop in to get this problem fixed. They replaced the palmrest,  the power input, and some part of the motherboard, according to the sheet. It also was bricked within 12 hours of me getting it back (!!!), and the mic problem was still not fixed. I returned it to them again to be ressurected with a detailed explanation of the problem and the mic isue still hasn't been fixed. Apparently they are convinced it's a software issue since they aren't replacing the mic, so to be sure- am I incompetent, am I missing something? Is anyone else having trouble with the Thinkpad edge mics? I know I could just buy an external mic, but it's the principle of the thing. It's the least they could do after returning the machine to me broken.

Hello everyone,

I'm back on this forum because I had another issue... See my first one : http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T440p-camera-not-working-windows-8-1/m-p/18...
There was a problem with the cable between the camera/microphone combo card and the daughter card. Now the camera is working properly. A technician replaced the cable.

But I realized that my internal microphone is not working. I don't remember if it worked once...

My microphone is not muted, and I reinstalled the real-teck drivers. When I try to use the "listen" option in the microphone properties, I here a sort of wideband noise (let's call it white noise).

Do you have any suggestions that might help?

Thank you very much

Hey everyone. I'm at wit's end trying to solve this one.

I've been running Windows 7 for the last, what, seven years? I finally decided to make the jump to Windows 10 because I've really enjoyed it on other computers, and almost everything went swimmingly -- except for my microphone.

I have an ASRock Extreme6 X79 motherboard, and I'm only using onboard audio. Both my front audio-out and rear audio-out work perfectly, but neither microphone works. Both are extremely static-y when plugged in (I can tell by 'listening to this device' in my recording devices). However, if I set the Microphone to play through my playback device in the Realtek HD Audio Manager, it is crystal clear. This problem happens with multiple mics, which leads me to believe that it's a driver-related issue. I've tried the most recent drivers (current as of April 12), and I've tried the same drivers a friend of mine is running with the same headset from last June (his works fine, mine obviously does not).

I'm willing to try anything short of buying a sound card. Do I need to revert to Windows 7 or 8? I would hate to do it, but having a functional 2.5mm microphone is an absolute must. Thank you so much in advance to anyone willing to help out.

Answer:Thinkpad W510 internal microphone not working - windows 7

Hi Nakul,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that internal microphone in your Lenovo ThinkPad W510 is not working properly.

Check if microphone is enabled in the Bios, under security, IO port access or in windows through control panel, sound, recording, select microphone. If you right-click on the microphone, you can select Properties and you'll be able to adjust all the settings for it. Make sure that the volume is at a decent level. In the advanced tab, try changing the default format and check.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Is your microphone detected in the control panel? Possibly it thinks you have no mic so doesn't give you the option.

Hi, I just got my new thinkpad yoga 370 that comes with windows 10 preinstalled and I'd like to do a Clean Install of Windows 7. Whoever I'm worried about drivers/comptibility issues, for example that the touch screen doesn't work anymore or that the wacom pen isn't compatible anymore.  Has someone tried to install windows 7 on one of these laptops or do you know if it's possible? If so what precautions should I take? Which drivers will I have to download after the install to make everything work properly? Thank you

I uninstalled the windows 8.1 that came with my Thinkpad Yoga to installe windows 7 64-bit because there was no support for Power Manager ( a tool that allows you to charge your battery only upto a certain percentage (eg 40%) which helps reduce battery aging when the notebook is mostly operated on AC power).Doing that required me to fully clean the Hard-disk during the installation process.I installed almost all of the drivers available on  http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...for thinkpad yoga and windows 7 64 bit.Happily, this provided me the Power manager, and I can use it just as I wanted. However, all these has brought in additional issues which are listed below:  1. The touch pad right click doesn't work. Only two finger tap works as right click.2. The touch pad gestures for zoom and scroll doesn't work at all.3. The screen auto-rotate doesn't work.4. The touch screen gesture for zoom doesn't work. I did install the ultra-nav and screen-rotate drivers, but I get error messages regarding synaptics ... not working and also sensor driver not working during the windows startup. Any help please? Thank you.

Answer:Issues with Thinkpad yoga on Windows 7 64-bit

Follow up: After going through windows update and installing windows 7 service pack 1, some of the issues have been resolved. The screen auto rotates based on device orientation. The two finger scroll and zoom works on the touchpad. The physical right click still doesn't work. (The two finger tap for right-click is working). One important feature that I still find mssing is that the two finger pinch to zoom doesn't work on the Touchscreen (it works in Touchpad though). So, when I am browsing websites on Tablet mode, there is no way to zoom in! Thanks.

I'd like to ask about your experience with updating your 2nd generation Thinkpad Yoga 12 laptops from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. I've seen the black screen problem described, that seems to be an issue with the Synaptics driver and hopefully has been fixed with the current latest release of the synaptics driver from the synaptics site.  According to the discussion thread here anyway. But have you encountered any other issues?  Has Windows 10 been a positive upgrade for battery life?  Any tips on steps before upgrading, such as any driver incompatibility and setting up a back-up? My Yoga 12 is the variety with an i5 5300U and a "hybrid" 16GB SSD + 500GB HDD. Thanks!

Answer:Thinkpad yoga 14 little issues after windows 10

Hi danielmb007 It took me some time to stabilize Windows 10 on the TPY 14 (20DM008UUS). I went into a "driver updating rampage" for it and I have it stabilized right now. This are my tips to update the drivers on my Thinkpad Yoga, but you can decide how deep you want to go for driver updating:1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers. This will be the Lenovo supported drivers, but if you want to look for other update drivers directly from the manufacturer (AS IS) you can try:5) Depending on the machine chipset/processor, you can try Intel Driver Update Utility, or AMD Update Utility.6) I also like to use DriverEasy, which offers a a decent driver update recognition for free, but also tries to sell you the full version. Just be warned that the drivers that are not from the Lenovo support site are "AS IS" and under your own risk, I install them since I'm confortable installing, and un-installing Windows drivers, remember that a wrong driver may turn up Windows un-usable. Regards

Hello, When I suspend my laptop (windows 10.1 -> sleep), I can't wake it up. The red led is in sleep mode but the switch on/off button does nothing. The only way out is a long press on the switch on/off button to shutdown the laptop and start it back normally. What could it be? Is there another way to wake up the laptop? Thank you for your help! Cheers,

Greetings: I have a Thinkpad Yoga (Type 20CD, Model 00B1US) that shipped with Windows 8 Pro installed.  I later upgraded to Windows 10 Pro.  I need to reformat as the machine is sluggish at times.   Any suggestions/tips for doing a complete reformat of the hard drive and then a clean install using Windows 10 Pro?  My concern is impacting the BIOS or losing any of the Lenovo drivers for things like the function keys, keyboard light, screen digitizer, etc.  I am assuming simply reinstalling Windows 10 Pro (instead of reformatting and then reinstalling Windows 10 Pro) will not provide the performance boost I am looking for. Thank you in advance for your input.

if it originally  came with win10, it has a license in the BIOS.  You can create a USB stick on a different machine (free) and install it.

I took it out of the package, plugged it in (because it was dead for some reason), and turned it on but it won't boot. It just keeps giving me this error message saying that Windows could not complete installation. I press ok and it just restarts and comes up again.

Ever since I installed windows 10 the throttling on my yoga 15 has been rediculous. If the computer remotly heats up the programs that I am using slow down to a crawl randomly. This is especially evident on steam games and other heavy programs that require the dedicated graphics card. I have tried everything from reinstalling the nvidia drivers, updating the bios, clean installing windows 10, anything. I have not been able to find a solution for this and its getting quite annoying having my fps drop from 90 or 60 yo 5 every few seconds when before I could keep a solid 60+. Sometimes the fan revs up and down as my frame rates goes up and down. Has anyone found a solution for this? Or has Lenovo done released anything?

I just bought the base model Yoga 2 with a traditional hard drive.  I have a brand new Samsung 830 256GB SSD drive that I wanted to install.  I read on Lenovo's support site that Lenovo no longer offers recovery disks, since this laptop doesn't have a built in CD/DVD drive.  But, the support article did say that you can make a recovery disk onto a USB drive.  So before I put the new SSD drive in, I created a recover disk on a USB drive.  I then pulled the original hard drive and installed the SSD.  I booted off the USB drive and did a reset my computer.  It starts restetting/restoring and only get's to 1% before it says "there was a problem resetting your PC".   It gives no additional information.  I've tried going into the advanced options and looking for a recovery image, but it can't find one...even though I am booting from the USB drive I called Lenovo support and talked to two different guys.  The first guy had me go into BIOS and try to change some settings, but apparently my BIOS was different than his, becuse I didn't have the exact same options.  The next support guy told me the only way to put windows on my new SSD is to order the recovery disks from Lenovo, but in my case it would have to be a recovery USB drive.  He wanted to charge me $69 for a recovery USB drive!  I told him I have a usb DVD drive and asked if he could send me disks instead, but he said the cost would be the same.  W... hi jbobst,

There are reports that you can't use the recovery drive with a blank HDD (like the case in this thread) but if the recovery drive files are correctly written, you should be able to restore on a blank HDD as discussed in this article.

Also, note that the "Copy the recovery partition from the PC to the recovery drive" is essential as this contains the recovery image (.wim file) that restores Windows into

Alternatively, you can also try to migrate the HDD to the SSD.

Using Samsung Data Migration Software:
1. Download and install the Samsung Data Migration Software
2. Connect the Samsung SSD to a 2.5" USB SATA Enclosure
3. Choose the Source Disk and Targer Disk and click Start to begin the data migration process.
4. Once the cloning is done, shut the machine off, remove the stock HDD and replace it with the Samsung SSD and observe.

I have a Thinkpad Yoga X1, windows 10, all updates installed. It fires random window key presses while using the computer, very regularly. This causes severe interruption to the use of the laptop. I don't see any phantom touches on the screen, but it does have a tough windows key outside the screen area, and I'm wondering if that does the phantom touches. Any ideas? What should I try?

I just bought my yoga 12 thinkpad with windows 10 and the mouse has just stopped working/disappears. i have tried messing with the drivers, and I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Point Device Driver from Synoptics multiple times. Its giving me a code 10 on the driver (I believe meaning it can't talk to the rest of the computer) and everytime I try to update the drivers nothing happens (i think because I just downloaded the driver off the website). Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks,  Patrick

Since I've installed Windows 10 on my ThinkPad Yoga S1 (20C0-S0AX00), I've never been able to get audio via HDMI working. In theory, it looks like it's all fine: ? In practice, however, no audio is transmitted via HDMI (I tried it with different monitors), and the video signal of any application trying to play audio over HDMI is stuttering ? as if it's trying to sync audio and video, but failing for some reason. As soon as the output device is changed, the video plays smoothly again. Changing the "Default Format" did not change anything. Currently, "16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD quality)" is selected. A support ticket I opened quickly after upgrading to Windows 10 promised a driver update to fix this. A more recent ticket advised me to revert to the stock Windows 8.1 installation instead, which I refuse to do. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this issue?

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga S1 - No sound via HDMI on Windows 10

Hi

I have a different Thinkpad Yoga. Checking your issue I wonder if you would like to do some "trial and error" like:

1) Try a different HDMI cable, you never know.
2) Check the driver version of you Intel Display Audio. Here it is mine:
?
3) Just in case check the Lenovo Support site for your model and try updating the Intel Video and Realtek drivers just in case.

This is only that cames to my mind right now.

So I've had this Yoga 12 for about 3 moths now. In the past month, after I installed a new windows update, the touchpad and trackpoint would not work, like it was disabled. I tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling-- did not work. I even reset the computer. STILL DID NOT WORK. So I ran the driver verifier which told me that the one of Lenovo products had problem with it--I don't remember which one-- so I uninstalled it. Still didn't work. After all that, I tried for the last time to uninstall the synaptics drive. When I uninstalled it... it was still there! I don't know how, but it was still there and now the touchpad and trackpoint both works. Well, sporadically. It will work for a few minutes, then won't work for a few minutes (or more). So.. that's where I am now (actually, right now, as I am writing this, only the trackpoint is working. oop nvm it stopped working). Any thoughts on how to fix this problem? Thanks! Also, when the touchpad & trackpoint works, the windows buttons are more condensed, while when it doesn't work, the buttons are more spread out (see below links). "condensed""spread out" p.s. also, does anybody's computer lag severely when you press the CapsLock button?? Which kind of disables the keyboard for a solid 7 seconds???

Hi
Welcome to the forums.

According to your full model number, I can recommend you first to check the Lenovo support site for your model and update the latest drivers.

But there had been also reports that some trackpads of the Thinkpad Yoga 12 had some issues ( ThinkPad Yoga 12 manufactured prior to October 2015. )
Here it is the link about it, please check it out.

Hello All, here is a good one:  (Maby a MOD will give this to development to take a look at this, unless someone hasseen this before????....) I have Several Thinkpad Yogas (20CDCTO1WW), After installing Win10 1607 & Microsoft Office (tried 2010 - 2016)All experience the same problem. If you open MS Word (Or Excel) Click insert, then select object, select object type - Microsoft Equation 3.0 & selectok, you cannot select any symbols.  When Clicking any button, it is like the calibration is way off.If you click the title bar to move the equation symbols, the bar moves down and to the left. I have confirmed this is something to do with the Windows 10 1607 & the Yoga.  The previous version of Win 10 itworked properly.  I also tried this on various models of Desktops  & Win 10 1607 and it works properly. I have tried different drivers, versions of Word, BIOS,  external mouse, but it makes no difference,  It has something to do with Win 10 1607 (Build 14393.222) & Yoga or so it seems. Maybe some type of driver issue?, if anyone has any clues I would appreciate it.           Thanks in advance!

Hi, First post, I hope this is the correct spot, this is more Windows10 rather than X1 Yoga specific per se... If I reset Windows 10 from the recovery partition, will this include ALL the software included when I first received the laptop (including any Lenovo add ons)?  In other words, does it reset Windows to *exactly* the way it was when I received it from the factory?  I need the details on how Lenovo sets up the recovery partition. I haven't had the laptop long, and I'm happy to reinstall what little I've done since receiving it (mainly Office 365). (More details:  I'm setting it up to dual boot Windows and Linux.  I want to fix the bootloader partition.  There are other approaches I could use, but am happy to reset Windows as long as Lenovo has set the recovery partition to be identical to factory settings.  I'll create a recovery disk and system backup after I do the reset, so I have additional options in the future.)

I updated to Windows 10 last night on my brand new TPY 14 and afterwards the keyboard, trackpad and trackpoint don't work. In fact, as far as I can tell, only the function key works -- at least, turning on the keyboard backlight (fn-space) does. I've tried updating drivers but it says it's up to date. The Device Manager says the keyboard is working fine but it says that "Thinkpad UltraNav" cannot start (code 10), with this explanation: "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API". Can anyone  give my any suggestions on this? Hi, After upgrade to Windows 10 I noticed a major bug in touchpad driver. If you turn on TPY (from complete shutdown or sleep/hibernation), while leptop is tilted to one side, then the touchpad works in right angle to the regular finger movements. The incorrect movement of pointer will not resolve unless you turn on TPY again in a complete horizontal setting. The bug is only seen in Windows 10 and I did not have this bug in Windows 8.1. I'm using the latest driver: Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver Version 19.0.17. 2 Anybody tried this so far?I wish Lenovo solve the issue soon. Thanks,Amir

Hello I bought a Yoga X1 last year and it was working fine until about 3 weeks ago. For unknown reasons - possibly because of some Windows 10 update or because I installed a "nightly built" of the VLC video player the touchscreen stopped working. Windows 10 could not find a driver anymore (claiming that the driver it found is not suitable for this version of windows or womething like that). Same happened with the Lenovo driver for the device from the Lenovo website. I always hat the device marked yellow and "not working properly" in the device manager. I finally found in a forum aomeone pointing to a different driver for the Xoga X1's Wacom device and installed it. Now it shows up in the Device manager without Problems, but I still have no touch functionality. I deinstalled VLC alread and updated Win 10 again - still no luck. do I need some additional driver to connect the device that is recognized in the Device manager with Windows 10 somehow? Or activate it? I booted from a USB rescue stick for Win 10 and there the touch functionality was ok - so its not a hardware issue! Thank you.

My Thinkpad Yoga 14 is now basically a standalone CPU, and not a laptop/tablet since my Windows 10 upgrade.  The speakers did not work -- that was easy to fix.  The keyboard on the laptop will not work, and the tablet will not rotate.  I have tried so many suggestions to fix it, but it is now rendered just a cpu with external keyboard, mouse and monitor.  This is very disappointing.  Any ideas on how to fix the keyboard and tablet rotation features?

Hi Can you check the Windows "Device Manager" and see if by any chance is there a device that is not recognize or does not has the correct drivers? I have a Thinkpad Yoga 14 and there is a driver that detects if it on laptop or slate mode. When it came to driver I always try:1)"System Update" utility from Lenovo. If you do not have it already installed check it here. 2) The Intel Driver Update Utility,. to update Intel drivers. AMD has his own tool. (Under your own risk) 3) If you have experience installing drivers on Windows. I found it very usefull to use DriverEasy. It offers good enought (freeware) driver recognition of the things installed on your machine. But please notice that installing the wrong driver may screw things up. (Under your own risk) Remember that Intel Driver Update Utility and DriverEasy are not supported by Lenovo, this is only a suggestion to try to get the latest driver for your machine. Regards

Then press TAB, this will get you into the App menu, and in that you choose Lenovo diagnostic, using the direction key. https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14645828938/in/photostream/3. Choose quick storage device test.https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14852323083/in/photostream/4. then choose the hdd and/or ssd for a quick surface scan to see if it is alright. https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14829384881/in/photostream/5. then choose RUN TEST in the option lists. https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14645806150/6. Windows 8.1 OS. The initial power management option in 'Lenovo settings' when I installed the OS provided for an option to 'Automatically optimize for battery life? - which I have just read elsewhere was supposedly removed as it had issues with Windows 8.1 (I could not agreee more) and got it resolved myself through some trial and error and retesting to prove the bug was repeatable for my own peace of mind as to the cause of the error. The only reason I am telling you the above is because you might have got yourself where you are by doing what I did - and that reverting out is not as simple as turning off that 'Automatically optimize for battery life? back to 'Full power'. I assume the 'Lenovo settings' software is dynamically provided over the internet, because that 'Automatically optimize for battery life? power menu option has now (fortunately) gone missing in the past 36 hours. HOWEVER, as I am having numerous OS blue screen of death issues, I reloaded the OS from scratch off the recovery drive to try and stabilise the OS and experienced the exact same issue with the machine not recharging after the OS was reinstalled. My best guess is that they have progammed the same power management bug into the recovery disk. Here is how I got it charging again... 1. Select 'Control Panel' under the Windows desktop (hold down the Windows keyboard ... Read more

Im trying to do a Clean Install on my Thinkpad Yoga S1, everytime I get an error "windows cannot be installed to this disk" What do I need to do in order to fix this problem?

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga Wont Install Windows 7

Is there more to the error message?  Perhaps "...the selected disk is of the gpt partition style"

If so, you're booted in legacy mode but trying to install to a GPT drive.

Re-start the installer, hit SHIFT+F10 to bring up a command window, then type DISKPART.  Once diskpart is running type "list disk" then "select disk xyz" where xyz is your HDD as displayed by list.  Then type "clean".  Then "exit" and close the command window.

That should un-initialize the drive and allow the installer to format it MBR style.

Alternatively you could boot in UEFI mode and install Win 7 on the GPT-formatted drive.

Hello everybody, do you know where we can get the Windows product key when we buy a Lenovo laptop?I do not think that it is written on a sticker or paper document when people buy a LENOVO product.Lenovo laptops are provided (as many laptops) with a pre-install windows version, and no DVD is provided. No DVD, so no key...  I will buy the new Thinkpad Yoga 12" model, and i will have to reinstall windows 8.1 pro very frequently....I will have a lot of tests to do as an IT professional, and i need to reinstall Windows. This laptop is provided (as many laptops) with a pre-install windows version, and no DVD is provided. I saw that we can reinstall windows 8 by using the 'RESET YOUR PC' windows 8 feature, especially if we are not able to start windows. But at the end of the process, we have to enter the Windows product key.... even if is not mentioned in the lenovo user guide   (http://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/yoga_12_ug_en.pdf) Below instructions from the LENOVO user guide (p106) : 1. Turn on or restart the computer. Before the Windows operating system starts, repeatedly press the F12 key. The Boot Menu window opens. 2. Select the recovery drive as the boot device. 3. Select a preferred language and then select a preferred keyboard layout. 4. Click Troubleshoot to display the optional recovery solutions. 5. Select a corresponding recovery solution according to your situation. For example, select Reset your PC if you want to reset your... Read more

Answer:Where to find the Windows product key - new Thinkpad Yoga

Hi,

You don't need to know the key.  It will be picked up during install automatically as long as you're installing the same version that shipped with the machine.  Either Lenovo or Microsoft media will work.

The key is not required during reset, nor is it required when installing from Microsoft media.

Do make your recovery media when you get your machine

Answer:Yoga: Has anyone installed the Windows Updates from Tuesday

Yep. I definitely had issues. I got a "failure to install updates" and some message about having to revert. Ugh. Somehow I eventually got it to install...I'm not even sure what I did. I know I tried manually installing all the Windows 8 updates released in November, and then I tried both the Windows Update application accessible from the Control Panel in the Desktop environment and the Windows Update available in the Metro environment. If I had to guess it was the fact that I manually installed as many updates as I could, and then used the Update Windows functionality in the Metro (or whatever) interface. Good luck. It was irritating. And now I'm battling trackpad issues. Ugh.

Hi! Just entered the community as i recently bought a lenovo thinkpad S1 yoga. i am very satisfied with it overall, but right now there is one thing that bothers me. It came preinstalled with windows 7. Now, i did get recovery CDs with windows 8, but i do not currently have an external DVD to make use of them. Now, my first thought was that there must be a way of installing windows 8 without the discs, because of the windows 8 sticker at the bottom of the Unit that basically says it has (had) windows 8 at some point, but i havent yet found a solution.Would anyone know how to move on from this point? except from bying the external dvd-reader and use the CDs? cheers

Hi!some time ago I bought a Thinkpad x220. It was restored to factory condition. It only had one HDD which was split into the C: and Q: drives.A few days back I installed an SSD into the previously empty mSATA slot. The idea is, of course, that I have windows on the SSD and all my data on the Hard Drive. From what I gather the Q drive contains all the necessary files to do a factory reset. Can I apply this factory reset to the SSD? Is there a guide on how to do this?I've never worked with the Q-drive before and I'm hesitant to just try it out because I have a lot of important stuff on the C-drive that I don't want to lose.------------------------ Here's what I thought I could do, please tell me if that's a good idea 1). Copy an image of the Q-Drive onto a USB stick2). Remove the HDD from the laptop3). Use the USB stick to do a factory restore on the SSD. 4). Put the HDD back where it belongsThe only problem I see with this solution is that the image on the Q-Drive probably presupposes that the laptop it's doing factory reset on is equipped with a HDD, not an SSD. Is it possible that my SSD gets destroyed by this?

Answer:[Thinkpad x220]: Can I use the Q-Drive to put windows on a new SSD I installed?

HiIf you are happy with your current hdd, you might clone its entire content to the new msata SSD and then remove, resize partitions you don't need on both drives. And, finally, use msata SSD as bootable drive. Somewhere on the forum I posted detailed instruction, can't find that now. If you want I'll try to search. But the cloning task isn't so difficult.Note, Lenovo preload systems with win7 have 3 partitions. The 3rd partition - System_DRV - is a system, hidden one, includes Recovery Environment, is accessible from the Disk Manager.

Hi,

When I connect Thinkpad Yoga (model 20CD00B1US) to the onelink dock, the stylus stops working.

In order to enable the stylus and Wacom driver following 2 options/ workarounds:
1)  Manually stop and restart the Wacom ISD Service
2) or reboot the machine while the Onelink dock is attached.

I'm using the latest 7.2.0-4 Wacom driver version, all latest lenovo software installed installed on the machine.

Both above mentioned workarounds are ugly, does anybody have a better suggestion to fix this issue?

Had the same issue - a BIOS update just release about a week ago fixed it for me.

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

Hi! We have a number of ThinkPad Yoga 11e, most of them are about 1.5 years old and we're currently updating their Windows 10 image and BIOS. Imaging process completes fine, but updating the BIOS has caused us a lot of issues. When updating BIOS from within Windows with the latest BIOS Update Utility (1.26) from Lenovo's website the laptops crash with a blue screen of death (BSOD). We then tried all previous BIOS versions (from 1.10 and up), but they all crashed too. The current BIOS version on the laptops is 1.10, but even that failed. We initially ran the installer from our network drive with the installer file renamed for easier identification. We have since tried renaming the installer file back to the original name and running it locally. Have also tried running it only with wireless enabled, running only with Ethernet enabled. At one point we thought there might have been another installation process running in the background (drivers, Windows Update), so made sure that had all completed. The BIOS upgrade still crashed the laptop. We have been unable to pinpoint any of the above scenarios to be the culprit, as now some of them work randomly. Two machines side by side, one will work and the other one will fail. We're pulling our hair out with this one. Has anyone else had this experience and have you found what steps need to be taken to successfully complete the BIOS upgrade every time?

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga 11e - BSOD when updating BIOS from Windows

Does Windows create an DMP (or MDMP) file after the BSOD?
If so, can you zip it up and put it on dropbox/onedrive/etc so I can take a look?
I have heard of a similar issue previously (on a different system) and it was caused by AV/security software.

I wonder if anyone else is having issues with windows 10 starting up slowly and lagging for 2-5 minutes. The desktop takes a while to load as does the task bar at the bottom of the screen. During these 2-5 minutes programs will start up slowly. The startup times on Windows 10 are very dissapointing compared to windows 8.1.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14 Windows 10 Slow Start Up

How did you upgrade to Windows 10? Did you do a clean install or keep your old programs and files? Sounds like you will need to do a clean install preferably from a USB drive using Microsoft's tool and then individually re-install the Lenovo apps from the Lenovo support page for Thinkpad Yoga 14. While I'm still having some issues myself, the clean install did get the boot up times and general performance back up to normal.  http://winsupersite.com/windows-10/windows-10-clean-install-using-media-creation-tool#slide-0-field_...

I bought the Yoga 11e (that doesnt come with a stylus) because I wanted to draw on it but when I used my stylus on Autodesk, Manga Studio, and Sai, there was no pressure sensitivity. Apparently I need a Wacom Feel Driver but on setup it said "a supported tablet was not found on the system". I'm losing my calm here, the thing I want to function the most is the only thing not working at all. Please somebody tell me what to do for pressure sentivity screen.

Hello everyone, Yesterday I installed Windows 10 on my Thinkpad Yoga (first generation) with clean install. Everything works fine except wifi in tablet mode. Every time I twist my yoga (i.e. go into tablet mode physically) wifi stops working. When I twist against to laptop again, wifi comes back. Does everyone knows this issue? Thanks a lot for your time. Greeting from Germany

Hi A small crack has developed on the bottom edge of the bezel, in the centre, directly below the Windows button. The laptop hasn't been dropped or banged. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, did it get worse or cause any other issues?  Will my warranty be affected if I have a future issue, and it's considered that there is existing damage? Thanks Rob

Hi, I recently upgraded to windows 10.Now my Yoga (20C0-S0AX00) still provides no sound via HDMI although all driver updates above all Conextant and Intel have been installed, as suggested here: https://support.lenovo.com/de/de/documents/ht104056The device manager shows no problems with audio devices, the Intel(R) Display-Audio appears both in controllers and and in-/output. Do you guys have any suggestions? Many thanks in advance

Answer:No HDMI Audio after Windows 10 upgrade Thinkpad Yoga S1

Hi

Have you also tried to check con "Control Panel - Sound" ? On the "Playback" tab you can see all the "sound output" device, included the HDMI to see which one is working. You can also right click it and select "test". If the HDMI output sound does not show there, it may be a drivers issue.

I always try to keep the drivers updated against the Lenovo support site for my model. I try to update drivers on this order.
1) Use Windows Update
2) Use Lenovo System Update
3) Install Lenovo Companion and Lenovo Settings
4) Sometimes this tools miss to install some updated drivers, so I also try the Support site.

I hope this can give you some hints.

Regards

Hey. I have a Yoga 15 ThinkPad Notebook and have been having an issue. The issue occurs randomly through use (even during boot and safe mode). The laptop will vibrate and the system will act as if the windows key has been pressed. Pressing the windows key itself or touching the screen does not cause the vibrate function to occur so I'm not sure where this is coming from? If I'm using TeamViewer to view another PC from the Yoga 15, the remote terminal reacts similarly; acting as if the windows key has been pressed (at random intervals, sometimes not for 10-20 minutes, other times 3+ successively in a short period. Because it even occurs during boot without the OS being loaded I imagine it is a hardware issue, is there a particular peripheral that would cause the vibrate and windows key hit that I could disable? Previously on Windows 8.1 and now Windows 10, this issue has persisted through both operating systems. Any advice would be nice. Thanks    ----------Edit:Moments after posting I realized that there is a windows logo on the screen panel bezel and if I touch that the laptop vibrates. Is there any way to disable this particular part of the digitizer? Or does it have a specific HID driver that I can disable? Also, this does occur in all orientations and screen modes.

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga 15 Random Vibrate & Windows Key Pres...

Unfortunately, I was unable to locate what this device is listed as under Device Manager. If you do find it then there is the possibility to disable the vibration device.

Have a good day.
