TP Yoga 15 - Windows: Keyboard response too slow after coming back from hibernation

Question: TP Yoga 15 - Windows: Keyboard response too slow after coming back from hibernation

I've got the same issue as outlined in this thread for a Y50 - there seems to be a BIOS update to solve it, but what about TP Yoga 15?

Simply put, In keyboard properties , the Repeat delay is default at maximum (eg, holding down a keyboard button and how fast it generates the key strokes). When the system is put in hiberanation, then turned on again to come back, the Repeat delay some how gets decreased to about 2/3 of what it originally is.

Mod's Edit: Your duplicate posting was removed in the link you have posted. The accepted solution for the Y50 was a BIOS update which wouldn't apply to your model.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I also have this problem.

I wish I saw this thread before I did a factory restore. Ohh well, atleast its somewhat comforting to know I'm not the only one having this issue. I initially blamed the problem on my Razer Orochi 2013, but turns out that wasn't the issue.
And I agree a proper fix is needed, wether is be some kind of BIOS or Driver update, but not some 3rd Party work around. For a $1,200+ laptop, this shouldn't be something that just get's swept under the carpet with a "temporary fix".
Please keep us up to date on the status of this issue Lenovo.

Answer:Re: Y50 Windows 8 : Keyboard response too slow after coming back from hibernation

There is a topic on lenovo forum from someone about this problem with Windows 7. But this time I experienced it with windows 8.1 on a brand new machine .
I verified this. So if anyone can replicate please reply. Very easy test.
My Machine : Y50 , windows 8.1 64 bit (all windows update up to date). Lenovo updates up to date.

I have a dell 600m laptop.
I recently reinstalled the OS(win XP pro SP2) and now it doesn't come back from hibernation. After the progress bar is complete, the screen remains blank.

I have applied all updates.

The only new hardware that I have added is a secondary battery (no drivers required). However, when coming back from standby, the "found new hardware" wizard pops up and says that something new has been found... although nothing is really new.

Any ideas?
PLease let me know if you need any more information.
Thanks a lot

Answer:dell 600m not coming back form hibernation

Having reinstalled the OS, you must reinstall every driver from the Dell site (or supplied CD), as the default WIndows drivers will not provide the optimum performance and may stop hibernation resumption.

My wife's laptop is extremely slow to boot up, even after is seems to be up, starting a program like Outlook just bogs down - no apparent major CPU loading.

Answer:Slow boot up/coming out of hibernation

While on the desktop.. hold the Window Key + R  in the run box type msconfig then click ok or press enter. in the systems configuration window click on the startup tab. use to search the startup items. You may see some that are not required (you can uncheck them). I also would recommend rebooting to safe mode with networking and run a virus scan.

I bought the Yoga 3 Pro during Oct 2015. After three months, in the normal laptop mode, keboard stopped working. It used to work on tablet mode. Called Lenovo support couple of times and they asked me to reset few things. It started working. Then it stopped again. I was frustrated and stopped using this laptop and started using another one. I have to go to India for emergency and didn't take this Lenovo. Couple of months back, I came back from India and started trying it. I deleted everything and used recovery procedure. It worked for a day and stopped working. I noticed that it puts the letter, if I press it for few seconds. I never used this laptop in Tablet mode. Always Laptop mode. Called Lenovo support and talked to them for an hour. The promised that it will work, if install everything and it will fix the drivers. I paid $69 and she sent an USB drive with Win10 OS. I called the rep and asked them to help me.  After four hours of reimaging the laptop, it had the same issue. Very frustrated. Then the rep is saying that it is hardware issue and no one there to fix it. He told me that he can put a note to refund my $69 This laptop is very little used. It is like a brand new laptop. I don't know what to do now. After couple of days, a lady calls and tells me that she can not refund $69 because of the agreements. That really made me mad. I have a piece of junk in front of me and Lenovo wants to make money out of it. How is it fair? I owned more than 2... Read more

The key response time on the physical keyboard is delayed. You have to press the key and hold until it types in the letter you want making typing a very slow process.

My new Yoga 2 Pro is in service to repair an issue with the display switching modes on it's own. It's been in repair for over two weeks, parts on order. A couple of calls to customer service and they cannot tell me what has been ordered and when my Yoga 2 Pro will come back. The phone support people are polite, but not helpful at all. Since these are in short supply I chose to repair rather than return to Best Buy. In hindsight, I should have returned it and bought another brand. Is this typical service from Lenovo?  Can someone tell me if my machine will be gone for another week or months? Thanks for listening

Answer:New Yoga 2 Pro at the depot - No one can tell me when it's coming back

Worse news today regarding my impossible repair.  I called today and the support person said the part needed to repair my new laptop wasn't available with date of delivery. The part isn't in the inventory. He said a customer relations agent would call me. I have a new broken laptop that can't be fixed by the factory. If anyone could put me in contact with a Lenovo rep who can help, I would appreciate it.

Hello Techspot!!!!

I have had my laptop for nearly 3 years but I wouldn't deem it to be a poor performance laptop. Recently I have been getting slow internet, poor keyboard response and slow scrolling, and it is very frustrating!!! I share the BT 3 homehub with good connection speed which was checked and found fine! My housemates laptop has started having the same problem as mine and I really want to fix this issue. The internet, keyboard and scrolling speeds vary everyday but overall are slow performers. I have looked through some of the threads and have seen people posting long threads of code etc :/ Is there anyone out there who has the time and patience to help me fix this problem? It would be most appreciated!!!

Many Thanks

My Yoga 3 Pro won't wake up from sleep / hibernation, the only sign of activity is the keyboard lights just blinking, AGAIN! :-(. This is a common problem with Yoga 2 13 models I have learnt, not only from various boards, but also my self, when I returned a yoga 2 13 after 5 days, and got the Yoga 3 Pro model. The laptop is now only 6 months old. I experienced the same wake up problems 3 weeks ago with my 3 Pro, and the shop here in Copenhagen sent it back to service. When I got it back 4 days ago, the service team had just changed "Cinch Audio" and updated the BIOS. It seems like they never really fixed the real problem. Two days ago the computer again had problems to wake up, and now it seems to be frozen in this blinking mode. I I have tried hard reboot (holding the power button for ca 20 secs), but it won't solve the problem. Has anyone experienced the same problem, and any durable solutions to it? If it stays like this, I'll hand it in, try to get it reimbursed and I will gladly buy another computer, but not from Lenovo anymore.

I have a thinkpad yoga 14 with the 5th gen intel processor (if it matters)My problem is that the left click button that you use with the track ball, not the actual touch pad, is not coming back up. It still registers a click but it doesnt come back up. Sometimes it doesn't "unclick" so when I drag the cursor, it higihlights everything on the screen. This is a hardware issue, I was wondering if anyone knows what the button mechanism looks like or know which part to replace? thank you in advance!

Hello all, long time lurker first time poster here. I wonder if there are any other Yoga 3 Pro owners who have had issues with keys falling off from their keyboard? I have had couple of keys dropping off and currently there is one problematic key (<>|-key) which refuses to stay attached even if it clicks nicely in place when reattaching it. I don't think I have been particularly mishandling the laptop, but then again I may have not been using silk gloves when for example flipping the screen around to be used in a tablet mode. I think this is the first time I have had keys falling off from a laptop all over the years of using them. Are there any good advise on how to make sure no more keys fall off? Is there some special technique on securely reattching a key if it does indeed come off?

On my Dell Optiplex 745 I am having similar problem (
The computer stops responding to keyboard or mouse inputs for few milliseconds after every few seconds. Its not that the response is slow, wherein I expect whatever I type to appear after the momentory system hang. It actually either eats up couple of letters that I typed and takes double input for some other letters. I suspect it is because of patchlink update, but even after killing tth pddm.exe process from the task manager or machine restart I aam having same behaviour. It becomes exttremely difficult to type more than 2 sentences. It typically happens in the afternoon.
Even the mouse response is veery poor as the mouse moves in jerks and doees''t select the actual item I wish to select.
The computer is in company intranet with Symantec anti-virus corporate edition with very regular updates. So II dont suspect any virus attack.

After an automatic windows update, my T41 (2379 DKU) is operating extremely slow.  It boots fine, but it is taking several minutes to respond to a keystroke.  The cursor moves around the screen correctly, everything else is extremely slow.  CTRL-ALT-DEL to bring up task manager takes several minutes to open. Any suggestions would be appreciated. If I start the system in safe mode, everything seems to operate normaly.  System is not usable in normal windows XP start up -- response to open a program is to slow and eventually system hangs.  It seems that a right click will hang the system.

This is annoying me to no end.

I've gone ahead and leveraged the nice feature of keyboard shortcuts, so I can quickly access commonly used applications without having to "hunt and peck" with the mouse. I've got about 6 different applications linked with shortcuts.

However, I find that often when I invoke a shortcut, the response by Windows is VERY slow. First, the task bar becomes "busy" and unresponsive. Second, the application takes a relatively long time to launch. If I click on a desktop shortcut for the application, it launches within a second or two at the most.

Why this strange difference in launch time?

I have my network connection icons present in the system tray. Low and behold, I see them become very active when invoking my shortcuts. Is XP sending some "user" information to Microsoft? Is XP scanning the Internet for upgrades as a byproduct of a shortcut invocation?

I am wondering if there are steps I can take to reduce the shortcut response time. I usually don't have a "Start in" folder specified. Should I define one? Also, I define shortcuts on quick launch shortcuts located on the "All Programs" menu (and subgroups where appropriate). Is it better to have the keyboard shortcut defined on a quick launch shortcut in a specific location, like the desktop?

Hi, I'm new on the forum, I've been searching through the various topics and can't seem to find anyone having the same problem as I am, so any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

The Problem:- My keyboard response slows down after I have been using my machine for a couple of hours. It gets so bad that typing anything over 8 characters long causes the comp to loose characters and then beep. Even after a restart the problem seem to there unless the machine is off for a long period of time, which seems a little odd! I have tried 2 different types of keyboard and both suffer from the problem.

I have re-installed Win XP recently so there isn't a lot of software on the machine at the moment and I still experience the problem.

The machine has the following specs:

Obviously I'm using Vista. I saw on a website that it's the registry's problem that it sometimes stops for about half a second then bursts out with loads of typing about a second later.

Is this peice of registry correct?

The keyboard on my Satellite C660-108 is very slow in response. Some characters are not displayed at all, some only after a short delay. This is very inconvenient when typing text and passwords (!) because I have to double check everything I type (and 1 out of 3 words has spelling errors, due to the keyboard issue)

Is there a way I can troubleshoot what's wrong?

I presume you have brand new notebook. At the beginning notebook is very ?busy? with loading many background applications and services. Windows update is set to automatic and it search permanent for new updates and install them in the background.

I?m pretty sure that HDD is pretty busy when you try to write something.

What you must do is preinstalled OS optimization. With other words change settings for Windows update and stop start-up for some useless but preinstalled applications and additional software.

Please check it a bit and post some feedback.

The keyboard was not responding but I noticed that if I held down the key long enough then it owuld respond. I was wondering if this was a problem with the drives or if it was a factory defect or if there was any easy fix for it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Notebook mentioned in the title has a very annoying problem. After boot it works fine. After a while it suddenly starts delaying the typing. Words will appear a second later after you "hacked" them into the keyboard.
So, I'm already trying to figure out the problem:

- it's not a problem occuring in only one app e.g. Word 2010. When it starts you will have it everywhere, even in notepad or in the browser address field.

- killing the explorer.exe and starting the process again makes the problem disappear again!

- The notebook was usually on batteries and in a powersaving mode called OFFICE, when it happened. I don't have enough data yet to say it wouldn't happen in ECO OFF mode either. Also I saw there were a bunch of new updates for windows 7 for the Intel HD 3000 graphics, yesterday. I'm a little afraid that it's due to powersaving. In OFFICE mode it gives maximum powersaving to the graphics.

I'd like to know what you guys think. I didn't try a bios update yet. But I could do this as one of the steps to narrow down the problem. What would be the most professional way to narrow the problem down? Do I have to study system or application logs right when the problem occurs?

Ah, maybe it's helpful to mention that the cursor/touchpad response and system performance stays fine, while the keyboard lags.

Thx for help,

I hope that this is in the right section but I am having a problem with my computer. I can constantly hear programs running in the background. I currently have two anti spyware/malware installed on my computer. One is SpyHunter and the other is CyberDefender. They both are picking up on some virus called Vundo and everytime I delete it, it just comes right back. It is so frustrating surfing the internet because it freezes or moves extra slowly. Figured I'd ask you guys before I take a hammer to it lol.

On my Sat P100 PSPA6A, around 50% of the time, the keyboard and touchpad do not respond properly. By this I mean:
- mouse tracks jerkily and slowly across screen
- keystrokes lost

Both these symptoms occur at once - it's never one or the other. Sometimes a restart fixes it, sometimes it doesn't. It occurs after a fresh Windows install and with all Toshiba drivers as-new so it's not software or a virus. It's not related to overheating, as it can occur from startup after an overnight power-off. It's even occurred on two machines of this spec (one got RTMd and replaced under warranty) so it's not just some weird quirk on this one and only machine that I have.

I'm at my wit's end with this. If it wasn't for this intermittant fault, I'd be very happy with this, but I'm on the verge of throwing it off a cliff. (Well, not really, but trading it in anyway.)

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you tried to update BIOS to latest version?
If I am remembering well such issues are fixed with BIOS updates.

One more thing: if this issue is still there, even after clean OS installation, it can also be hardware related issue. You know, it is not easy to give exact solution to this. Maybe you should contact nearest authorized service provider and let them check keyboard and touchpad using their diagnostic tools.

Great that I found this site!

Since two days ago I have had a strange trouble with IE 6.0: Entering data to form fields (including this message box) and scrolling pages up/down is extremely slow. Characters show approx. 2 - 5 seconds after when you have actually pressed the keys. Scrolling webpages especially ones having pictures (such as Ebay search results) is paintaking.

Typing web address on top of the screen and the connection work just fine. I have Windows ME and AntiVir 9 + Zonealarm running. I run IE's internal "repair process" but did not help here at all.

Please let me know what should I do to get rid of this trouble.

Thanks all, in advance.

Hi. I have a brand new laptop (HP Envy 17) with Windows 7 Home Premium. Sometimes, when I come out of Hibernation mode (especially a long-duration Hibernation), I get a black screen that does not go away without me putting the computer into Sleep mode first. The sequence of events goes like this:

1. The "HP" logo appears after I hit the power switch to turn on the computer.
2. The message "Resuming Windows" appears.
3. A black screen appears briefly with a blinking cursor in the upper-left hand corner.
4. The screen goes completely black (a "truer" black than the one from step 3).
5. I can get rid of this black screen by shutting the lid of my laptop (which sends it into Sleep mode), and then lifting the lid this case the screen appears which allows me to click my username to access the desktop.

NOTE: When coming out of Hibernation, there are times when the black screen from step 4 lasts only a few seconds...but the fact that sometimes it lasts permanently (without my intervention) bothers me.

Can someone please help me resolve this?

Hi all I just joined your site and I wanted to post a fix that i know has been ALL over WWW. If you have a laptop and it has W7 (32 - 64bit) Problem was on Some laptops with W7 HomePrem, Pro etc  When the laptop is put to hibernation (ie closing the lid so it goes to sleep) and upon resuming (ie pushing the power button or on some laptops just opening the lid) and the LCD looks black but really the backlight just never kicks in but the fans are running, HD light is blinking etc. Changing sleep options NC, BIOS options (C3 etc) NC, power options, Hybrid Options NC, BIOS update NC etc. (And yes I know SLEEP and hibernation are different) but some people out there reference to both as the same thing. A good way to test this issue is when the laptop was in hibernation and you try to wake it up and it seems to be running just plug in a CRT or lcd into the video port on the laptop and bang both displays work! and when you unplug the external monitor your laptop screen is normal once again check any and all USB devices.   Here was the FIX and it has worked many laptops. Again it has to do with USB devices again. When the laptop is put to hibernation (closing the lid) but upon pushing the power button or opening the lid the screen stays black or seems black but really the backlight is just not kicking in. If the person has a "thumb drive" "usb stick" etc what ever they ant to call them. DO NOT leave the thumb drive in the usb port and put the laptop... Read more

I have read many posts and have tried many of the suggestions that you guys have giving. I have run ewido security, spyware removal, and anti-virus. They all take things off my computer. I can run of the programs remove stuff and re-run the program 2 minutes later and have the same and new things to remove. My internet is slow because of pop ups opening and trying to open. I have pop up blocker but that stops none of thing. The pop that seems to come up every two seconds has the title THE BEST OFFERS. I ran HIJACK THIS and here is the file.

Answer:Slow Computer, virus keep coming back

Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Restart in safe mode

Now in Safe Mode:
Double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite (W2K/XP Only)
· Install ewido.
· During the installation, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
· Launch ewido
· It will prompt you to update click the OK button and it will go to the main screen
· On the left side of the main screen click update
· Click on Start and let it update.
· DO NOT run a scan yet. You will do that later in safe mode.

Restart your computer into safe mode now. Perform the following steps in safe mode:

Run Ewido:
· Click on scanner
· Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
· During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
· When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
· Save the report to your C: Drive
This will take some time to run!
Boot to normal mode
Post that log and a new HiJack log – If the Ewido log is too large attach it.

My T43 (1871-W13), running XP Pro SP3, enters hibernation quickly and emerges just as quickly.  But, unless I provide either a keyboard or mouse input within the first minute or so after the computer emerges from hibernation, it will re-enter hibernation on its own.  If I do provide an input the computer will remain powered up until I shut it down or press the Fn+F12 keys to put it back into hibernation. The computer is on AC power 99% of the time, and automatic hibernation is disabled, even when running on battery power. It's been suggested, in another forum, that this re-entering hibernation if there's no input might be a "feature" but, if it is, I can find no documentation to that effect. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Hi, Iam having lots of trouble. Something is constantly adding BHOs, I disable them with BHODemon but more appear. I was having windows opening trying to get me to download winantivurus pro but this seems to have stopped for the time being. Adaware crashes so does spy sweeper. When I run spy sweeper in safe mode it finds virtumonde, I remove it but it comes back by the next scan.

I've run vundofix, this may have helped but my pc is still slow and AVG still keeps displaying that it is finding trojans such as Downloader.Generic4ZQI.

Panda activescan also found trojan Trj/Downloader.OZB.

Iam having trouble getting dss to work cos my cpu keeps going up to 100% usage and stalling for ages.

So, last Friday my OfficeScan software found a couple infected files that it couldn't clean off. So I ran Ad-Aware and Spy-Bot and RegistryCC and cleaned things up as best I could. But the pop-ups didn't stop. In fact it got worse. I turned the TeaTimer off on Spybot because it kept popping up telling me about registry changes and the virus started looping and creating new files when I denied the changes.

I've been reading replies to other people's messages that have similiar problems and tried to do what I could. I updated all my anti-virus software, I updated my Java (which was probably the weakness that let it in in the first place). I've been running Malwarebytes frequently. Sometimes it finds something, sometimes it doesn't. I've run VundoFix and it cleared a couple files off too. One I wrote down because it took a couple tries to get rid of : system32/uljeuf.dll Malware identified a few files as TrojanVundo.

It keeps coming back and I'm not sure what to do next. I used the add/remove to get rid of IE because I never use it anyway and I naively thought that might stop the pop-ups. But now they just come in streams of empty IE pages and system errors that say "An attempt was made to reference a token that does not exist."

Also there's a program in my add/remove called Mirar. I googled it and it doesn't sound good. I can't get that off either.

I don't have the knowledge to go deeper into my sys... Read more

So, got my Yoga yesterday. After repartitioning the hard drive (what is Lenovo thinking?) and restoring from my USB recovery disk, I have a nicely working computer. Except for one slightly annoying thing. When I flip the screen over into tablet mode the keyboard becomes disabled (perfect). When I flip the screen back over into the normal laptop position the keyboard remains disabled (ugh!!!). The only solution I have at the moment is to close the laptop and reopen it. The keyboard works again but I have to relog into Windows. Running Windows 8. Only things I did other then changing the drive partitions is remove some unwanted default software that was installed.

I've been using the M700 since two months and I've encountered a very annoying bug. It's not mentioned in this forum so far, but there are other reports on the Internet that mention this behavior also. (

*The issue:*

Tablet is put on hibernation. When it awakes all seems okay. When using the pen or the touch functions the cursor doesn't move. Tablet and Pen services haven't crashed, but there's no connection anymore between screen/digitizer and software.

+Technical assumption+
The serial/USB connector isn't reset after waking up or the hibernation has died the serial connection

*Tried solutions*
So far I reinstalled Vista, tried XP (and will stick to that for it's a better OS in many cases) and have reinstalled all kinds of Wacom drivers.

*What we want*
Wacom also seems to be aware of the problem but states that it is a Toshiba issue. I'm impressed by the build and quality of the M700 (it's a replacement for my sturdy but now almost unusable M200 and I've a M400 too, but I never liked it) and this issue is the only glitch I encounter.
I'd like to know if anyone else in this forum has encountered a Wacom-coma after resuming from hibernation or stand-by and if yes, if they found a solution (apart from restarting their PC)

And I'd really like to have an answer from a Toshiba representative considering this issue.

Answer:Portege M700 Wacom does not response after hibernation

Hi buddy

I?m not a M700 owner and therefore I cannot say much about this issue but from my knowledge there were some different issues with Vista and hibernation mode.
For example High definition audio device, display WLan failed after resuming from hibernation.
These issues were definitely Vista issues.

The Tablet d river installed on Portege M700 has been developed by Wacom? I wonder why the guys states that it is a Toshiba issue? ?:| (maybe because it?s Toshiba notebook ;) )

Anyway, you said you have reinstalled the Tablet driver from the Toshiba page and updated the Vista to the latest state?. Well check the BIOS update? maybe it could improve the functionality?

If this will not work I recommend contacting the ASP in order to find out if this is a known issue?

The old computer's hard drive at our local Humane Society failed, so we opted for a rebuilt from our local computer shop in order to save money; we simply can't afford to buy all new software for a new computer.  The replacement is a Dell, running Windows Vista, and it has only USB ports.
It would not respond to the USB keyboard that came with it; we had to haul it on back to the shop.  There, we tried a different keyboard and it worked.  That was about 45 days ago.
Yesterday, we moved some stuff around, and again all of a sudden the computer is not recognizing the keyboard.  All the USB ports are active; we determined this by plugging the mouse into each one.  The mouse lights up and responds.  I went to "Control Panel > hardware > USB wired keyboard and Windows Vista did not detect any problems.  We don't get any kind of error code; we simply can't type anything in.  (I am typing this request from my computer at home.)
I know this issue has probably been addressed here before -- but I simply don't have time to browse through thousands of posts by the keyword "keyboard."  So how do we fix this?  Thanks in advance.

Answer:No keyboard response in Windows Vista

Download USBdeview. Remove the keyboard. Remove any vendor specific device that was previously attached including printers you do not recognize and USB flash drives. If this was a clean install of Vista you may not have many vendor specific devices. Do not remove any network or mouse driver but do remove any keyboards listed. Highlight the device and press the red X. You will need to do this using only your mouse. You should still be able to use the onscreen keyboard if needed. Reboot with the keyboard attached.

I bought a Sony Vaio E-Series SVE17812BCXB running Windows 8. After the last major windows update that occurred in Feburary '13, the keyboard/mouse stop responding once the fully loaded splash screen is presented (With the time and date, ect).

I know the keyboard and mouse are fully functioning as I can use them when I access the boot menu before the OS is loaded. Also, only the keyboard 'functions' work when the OS is loaded, such as adjusting the brightness of the monitor (fn+F5) and such, but nothing else.

I try to do a system restore and it fails on all available restore points. I try to do a manual repair using a bootable USB drive, and it just loads windows like normal. I'm at a loss on how to get this fixed and as of right now, I purchased an $800 paper-weight.

Has this occurred for anyone else?

Windows 7 freezes randomly (mouse and keyboard no response)
TAGS: Windows Windows 7Mice KeWindows 7 Share

This happens randomly. When the Windows freezes, my mouse can't move and my keyboard's cap lock is not functioning(both input devices have no response). Every time I am forced to shut down the PC by pressing the power button (restart button no response as well). After reboot, the Windows is running properly(rarely require to reboot more than once).

This problem is quite annoying and I do want to know the cause of this problem. In my opinion, I wonder if my Windows is infected by some kind of virus. However, there's no virus found after scanning by AVG Anti-Virus free and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

it would be appreciated if this problem could be solved. Thanks in advance!

Answer:Windows 7 freezes randomly (mouse and keyboard no response)

Can you post the make, and model of your computer. Also is it a laptop / desktop.

Have you tried running in safe mode, to see if the "freeze" still happens.

Somethings to look at, and, or try. Go to Start > Search then type compmgmt.msc double click on compmgmt.msc, look through Event Viewer for any errors, or warnings.

You might consider testing your hardware, RAM, and Hard Drive. To test your RAM, go to Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool download the Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip) extract the .zip to a folder, then burn the .iso using software like The Official ImgBurn Website if you don't have a program that burns .iso images. To a CD, then boot from CD Run Memtest on one stick of RAM at a time, any errors then the stick is bad, and needs to be replaced.

To test your hard drive, download Seatools,
SeaTools for DOS | Seagate
Burn to a CD, using imgburn, or other .iso burning software, then boot from CD run both short, and long tests

Hi Folks!
Title obviously refers to laptop not me!(most of the time anyway!)
I have just freshly installed windows 7 (wiped old drive and installed). Since that I notice when I close the lid on the laptop (as I sometimes do) leaving it in hibernation, I have to press on the on/off button to get it back afterwards (ie when resume by opening the lid). Prior to this I used to just have to hit any key. What has changed I wonder?
Also 2nd question while Im here....
It could be my imagination, but I dont see any improvement in performance/speed since the re-install. If anything at times it seems a little slow. Of course it could be the internet, as that is mainly what I use it for.
Is there a way online of checking the performance of the laptop?
Sony Vaio, Pentium Dual, 4 gig ram, 500 gig HD; Windows 7.

Answer:Help coming out of hibernation

As for the speed if you did a sony restore factory settings you have probably got all the sony junk (bloatware) that comes with a new machine.

It is only when turning on the machine that it just cranks and cranks.

What do you think?

Answer:Windows XP SP3 - Slow Response

cranks ? rattles ?

Check Event Viewer. Look at the log entries from the moment XP starts to the time it gets to desktop. There should be no errors. Any error will delay the time it takes to get to desktop.

I turn off all unnecessary Services, as well as anything that has the word "updater" in it, i.e. Google Updater, etc... By "turn off" I mean delete the registry entry that runs the bloatware.

Sometimes things are so messed up that a new install is the best option. You can try to use the Windows Files & Settings Transfer Wizard, as long as you understand that it would work from one Service Pack to another, and even then it might not work correctly.

What is "cranking" and "rattling". Is this a laptop ? Post basic system specs.

Hello, my Windows 7 desktop computer has been rather slow lately. I'm not sure if it is the memory space but I think it's certain software causing. Would it be possible to have this checked out? Thanks!

Answer:Windows 7 Slow Response

Clean your machine with Privazer
Then defrag with.Ultimate Defrag.
Then I would suggest that you disable useless startups, all are really not needed, except your antivirus. When you disable items from startup, a reboot is needed to feel the changes. Whats In Startup.
After the reboot, tell me how things are running.
Then Download Security Check to your desktop, right click it run as administrator. When the program completes, the tool will automatically open a log file, please post that log here in your next post.
Please download MINITOOLBOX and run it.
Checkmark following boxes:
Flush DNS
Reset FF proxy Settings
Reset Ie Proxy Settings
Report IE Proxy Settings
Report FF Proxy Settings
List content of Hosts
List IP configuration
List Winsock Entries

I was just helped by Katana in the HijackThis area getting rid of some malware problems. That process went well, but now my Windows XP OS has very slow response times when loading the Windows Explorer screen, browsing to a folder when doing a 'save as' function, opening MS Office Suite applications, and other similar operations. Katana suggested I post the problem in this area.

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition version 2002 with SP2 installed. I'm not getting any particular error messages, just very slow response times. This was not an issue prior to performing the steps Katana took me through to get rid of the malware.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello all,

After a Windows 7 Ultimate new install on my L300 PSLB0E, I have lost use of the keyboard and mousepad.

I performed the install with a usb mouse, which also functions now. I downloaded all drivers related to my machine using the virtual keyboard, rebooted after every drivre install, still not working.
I have also upgraded the BIOS, from 1.3 to 1.5, still not working

The strange part is that at startup I can acces BIOS using F2, or the startup sequence using F12, navigate the BIOS, so the keyboard works, but does not anymore when Windows 7 has booted.

I tried putting all settings to default in the BIOS, no change.

HELP!?! >.< Going crazy over this!!!

Answer:Satellite L300 - No keyboard and mouse response after Windows 7 upgrade

Have you installed additional drivers or tools for these external input devices? If yes you should remove it, just check the software list in control panel.

Normally the touchpad can be enabled/disabled with FN+F9 key combination.

Furthermore it would be interesting to know what happens on ?factory settings?. I mean the preinstalled OS from Toshiba.

When Win7 shuts does my monitors after 15 minutes of inactivity, it crashes completely when I bring it back.

So when I left for breakfast this morning and came back, I moved the mouse to get the display on again...the mouse moved around for a few seconds then stopped. Freeze. No task manager nothing...I had to pull the plug and restart the computer, and it works fine.

I replicated this as well. I just left it sitting there for 15 minutes, the monitors went off. I went to bring it back and again, freeze.

Only programs that I was probablly running during both instances are uTorrent and Firefox (No-addons, one maybe two tabs.)

My screen saver is set to "none" if that helps. For now, I can alleviate this issue by setting the "Turn Display Off After" to "Never" in the power settings, which is fine with me. I just thought I'd post this up.

I've always had Visual Effects set to 'Adjust for Best Performance', so I don't have any shadows or fades, etc. Just recently I have a situation where the effect 'Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing' just starts up by itself.

I have the program Magix Audio Cleaning Lab that I use for editing music, and after I exit out of the program, the animation effect starts up. When I go back into Control Panel > System Properties > Performance Options, it's still set to 'Adjust for Best Performance' and the 'Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing' box is unchecked.

Now I can reset it and it goes back to normal, but as soon as I open and close Magix, the animation starts up again. I've been using this program for over a year, but this problem just started a week ago, so it might not even be related to this program at all. It's getting to be a pain having to reset it all the time. Does anybody know what could be causing this? Any ideas on things I could try that might fix it?

I have Windows XP, SP2.

My Compaq computer keeps coming out of Hibernation, I didn't know that was possible, what could be going on?

Answer:Computer keeps coming out of Hibernation

Scheduled tasks like checking for email, checking for security program updates, running a virus scan at a scheduled time...
When it wakes up, open task manager and see what is running. If you are quick enough, maybe system idle won't be using 99% of the CPU and you will have an idea what woke up the computer.

Y550P not coming out of hibernation, running Win7-64SP1.  Recurring issue.I often put my Y550P into hibernation mode, allowing it to completely 'power down' before shutting the lid. When I try to wake it, I open the lid and press the power button.  The laptop powers up but the screen stays blank, I can hear HDD spin once, and then it's all quite and dark, with only power LED on.Since I can't use GUI, I simply power down by holding the power button until "shutdown", wait a minute and then try to power up again.  Recently, it's taken me about  about 7 powering cycles to bring laptop back to life, at which time it resumes the saved pre-hibernation session.I've read forums here and have not seen anyone with similar issue.  Can it be a power cable?  or BIOS?  Any support is much appreciated.

In drive S:\ I have a number of folders and subfolders. One of the subfolders holds about 20 image files, each about 35MB. When I point Windows Explorer to that folder it takes about 30 sec. for the results to be displayed. Meanwhile a green progress bar slowly creeps along the address window. Other subfolders in the same parent folder are not affected.

The drive has been indexed, but no help. However when I add the immediate parent folder to my Library, the display in Windows Explorer is almost immediate.

Is there a solution to this problem?

All my system specs are in my profile but I don't know a quick and easy way to include them here:

I am running Windows XP on my computer and have been experiencing extremely slow response times when starting up my computer and then starting specific programs such as Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer has been slower than normal when navigating between pages. I am running Norton Anti Virus and recently did system scans with Spybot and AdAware. It removed a few problems, but I have not noticed a difference in performance.

An additional problem is that an HP error message regularly appears that states "HP Framework Component Manager Service has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry fro the inconvenience".

Any help you could offer would be much appreciated!

Thanks, STKA

I hope I am posting this on the correct forum. After submitting my first problem a while ago and getting a solution here, I hope you can help again.

For some reason my Windows XP installation suddenly takes long to log in.

It is quick to the logon screen, but then when I enter my username it takes VERY long to load my personal settings. And then get to the Desktop.

One of the other symptoms is that Outlook cannot connect to my echange server, but I can ping it. No error messages comes up at all, and I am at a loss where to start looking next.

I think it might be a program that installed via the internet.

I have run AVG Anti Spyware, with no result. Trend Office Scan also found no virus infected files on my PC.

I have attached a Hijack This log file.

Please help!
Thank you,

Since last Friday, my computer has been acting very slow. The task bar responds ultra slow when clicking on any of the programs, and it finally opens the selected program, it takes a while to become operational.

Switching between programs is becoming a hassle, and there seems to be a huge delay when I click on anything. I monitored the CPU usage, and it seems to vary from 5% to 100% all the time, even when no programs are running.

When I ran the recommended malware removal tools, nothing was reported as infected. I am attaching all the logs. Thanks for your help.

Hi, I'm new here and just read through the sticky for "new instructions", so I hope I'm doing everything correctly. I received the "Windows Security 2012" virus a few weeks back and ran "rkill" so I could get "Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware" to do a scan, which found a few things and removed it. Last week, the "Security 2012" came back and I repeated the same thing but the scan didn't find anything this time. However, my "Microsoft Security Essentials" DID find something and removed them. Today, the "Security 2012" came back again, so I finally decided to get some professional help. I don't have a Windows Install CD, but I may be able to get one. Anyways, here's the DDS log:

As said in the title, the Windows Xp Security Center virus keeps on coming back. I've gotten rid of the thing 6 times now, and I'm sure it'll come back again unless I find to cause of it. I also noticed that my automatic updates is off, and I can no longer turn it on. It always says that it's unable to change settings. I have no idea what to do. Anytime I get the virus, I just scan and remove it, but it's becoming a real nuisance, and I want to stop getting it now. Any help would be much appreciated.

I was told to post a new topic with these results. I have had Windows 7 Antispyware 2012 pop up several time in the last couple days. It always starts with Firefox closing and or attempting to open up 4 new windows that are composed of gibberish. Then the spyware will pop up and I am unable to execute any programs. After following the removal instructions at here, several times it keeps on coming back. Since it started I have been getting popup tabs in my internet browser and Mcaffee will warn me that it has removed a trojan named repeatedly. I have ran and posted the results for Security Check, MiniToolBox, and MBAM. When I ran GMER it returned no log. I believe this is because I have a 64bit OS. My computer is running Vista and has been infected with the "Windows Recovery" malware. The computer seized up for about 30 seconds before displaying the message "The system has detected a problem with one or more installed IDE / SATA hard disks. It is recommended that you restart the system."

At first I thought I had real hard drive problems and so restarted the computer. Nothing came back up - no icons ran, the background was wrong, I couldn't run anything. IN the end I started in safe mode and ran Windows System Restore to a point yesterday (13/05/11). The problem came back after half an hour so I googled the problem and found your guide to removing the virus using Malware bytes. I went through all the steps, including running unhide.exe and SPSI, but in the end there were still a few icons missing, such as the "show desktop" icon on the task bar, and the shortcut to my broadband connection. I thought maybe there were some problems remaining so I did another system restore to the earliest point, which was 10/05/11 (4 days ago). I then ran the malware program again and it found nothing so I thought I was in the clear. However after about half an hour the file "null.00...exe" appeared on the desktop and had started running in task manager. The computer seized up again. There was also a dodgy program in c:\programdata (sorry can't remember the name). I stopped both of there in task manager and re-ran the malware pr... Read more

Hi! I'm new here and i have a little problem... Every time I boot my PC, this process is using 50% of CPU and Isass.exe is using 100% of my GPU.
Inside the Temp have some logs, saying it's from Claymore CryptoNote CPU Miner and Claymore CryptoNote GPU Miner. How I remove this? I tried almost everything that I know (Malwarebytes, Windows Defender, Spybot...). I know there is some post about this on the forum, but the fixlist.txt for the FRST is unique for each computer. There is the log from FRST:

This virus popped up on my computer last night. I followed the instructions here, and it seemingly was gone at first but it kept coming back. Also I have noticed a couple other problems since it started. Mcaffee tends to pop up with messages saying it has removed a Trojan fairly often, and I am getting popup tabs in Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer when visiting websites(this doesn't normally happen to me) and finally as of today, after I have an internet browser open for just a couple of minutes, it freezes and stops responding and I become unable to open up task manager via the taskbar or control alt delete and am forced to hold the power button on my pc till it turns off.

Here's my DDS log.

Computer Configuration:

Windows XP professional 32bit Service Pack 3

My wife started complaining that when she would click a link to go to a webpage from a search engine or even on a webpage that it would redirect here to some weird webpage with similar search results, etc. But now, Windows Firewall has been disabled and so has Microsoft Security Essentials. After trying to do the preparation guide. I also ran Malware Bytes with some effectiveness before I found this forum. It did get rid of Windows Security Shield and didn't have the same web browser problems. I even got Microsoft Security Essentials reinstalled. However, it came back overnight and disabled everything again. I can't get DDS to finish and post a log. And now I've got a screen that came up saying that the FBI has locked the computer until I pay them $200 (FBI MoneyPak Malware Scam). I can't even use CTRL ALT DELETE to get that up or use ALT TAB to get to a different screen. Really quite ingenious, unfortunately. I'm kind of at a loss if I can't even log into a normal desktop. I might be able to load into Safe Mode. Any ideas?

I joined years ago and only posted twice, found my way back here after looking for the forum I got help on previously (couldn't find it but found this also).

I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 home premium on. For about a week or more (not sure of exact date it started) it has been extremely slow to start up, takes 15 minutes at least to load up and actually let me click anything on my desktop. At it's worst it took 30 minutes.

My computer hangs every so often making typing in anything or moving the mouse cursor impossible. I have to wait a minute or two till that stops and it goes back to normal.

It's also effecting my internet browsing and usage. My internet works brilliantly on my mobile phone but on the computer it's quite slow. I have a 50mb connection.

At the moment speedtest says I'm at 48mbps upload and 3.15mbps download but it certainly doesn't feel like that when browsing the internet.

I am not sure what to do, I have limited knowledge of dealing with super slow computers/laptops. My microsoft security essentials full scan found nothing. Avast has found nothing. So I have no idea why this is happening.

Please help, it would be much appreciated.

Answer:Help, oldie coming back...Windows 7 Laptop

Windows 98 SE

this computer sometimes seems to run very slow (although it has 512 RAM in it) and sometimes runs kind of funny like half of a screen coming on then the otner half, maybe the mouse pointer not moving quite right etc. My question is

It seems when I go into the HJT log (which I do not have right now it is the pastors computer) anyway there is PTSNOOP in the HJT Log. I have always been told there is a good ptsnoop and a bad one. How do you no which one is bad? The reason I ask is, when his computer is running slow or funny like that if I take ptsnoop out ot the HJT log the computer seems to run much better, However, it always somehow shows up in the log again the next time you check it.

He has McAfee antivirus
script defender

and it is always updated and ran, his computer always comes up clean when any of it is ran.

Can you tell me how you no if ptsnoop is bad and why does it always come back when I take it out of the HJT log??

Answer:Windows 98 SE-ptsnoop in HJT Log-take out keeps coming back have question?

Windows Search is a service that I want to run, but a component of this, searchindexer.exe is supposed to be possible to disable if you don't need indexing of files. The Windows Search service does much more than this, so I don't want to disable the whole thing, just the indexing of files (if you're curious why, it's mostly because I suspect it's writing and reading the hard drive and the constant clicking and buzzing noise is too annoying).
What did I already try:
1. You're supposed to be able to go to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features On or Off >  go to "Indexing Service" and uncheck the box. Also, scroll down to "Windows Search" I can see the check is still there, which I want so that I can still search for files (without the indexing feature).
2. I go to Start > open Computer > Hard Disk Drives > Properties  and I uncheck "Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed..."
3. I go to Start > Computer > Manage > Services and Applications > Services  and "Windows Search" is set on Manual.
Yet, here's the bizarre thing: Every time I stop the service it runs again. I can't seem to find if there is something that is set to run the indexer when the system is idle. If you know where to look for this, can you give me details how to investigate? I'm new to Windows 7 so I'm not sure about all features.

Answer:Windows 7: How to stop searchindexer.exe from coming back on ?

Instead of setting Windows Search to manual in services, set it to Disabled.

Hi all!

My mothers Dell running Windows 7 has a problem where, soon after powerup, the screen goes to a Windows Error Recovery screen featuring two options, either A) Launch Startup Repair, or B) Start Windows Normally. If A is chosen, then it goes to a screen which says, Loading files at the bottom with a loading bar, then when the bar is full, the screen returns right back to the Windows Error Recovery screen. The same with starting normally. I have absolutly no idea why this is happening but yeah, any help would of course be wanted. Thanks!

p.s. My name says it all.

Has anyone else had  trouble coming out of hibernation with ThinkCentre Edge (mine is 72)? Specifically if I have multiple tabs open on my browser coming out of hibernation takes minutes during which computer is almost unresponsive and hard drive is making a lot of noise. I saw this thread I uninstalled Power Manager and this actually helped a little. Now I can hibernate about 3 times without problems, but after that it's same as before if I don't do a restart.

Answer:Coming out of hibernation takes ages.

I'll answer my own question, it turned out that my mother board was about to die. After the mother board was replaced the problem is gone (luckily the warranty was still in effect).
