Thinkpad S540 Scrolling on Touchpad doesn't work

Question: Thinkpad S540 Scrolling on Touchpad doesn't work

The two finger scrolling function and the scrolling on the site of the touchpad do not work. I tried updating the driver and updated my bios, but neither helped. Every once in a while after a restart of the computer scrolling works, but usually only for a very brief time. Does anyone have an idea what i could do to fix it?

Preferred Solution: Thinkpad S540 Scrolling on Touchpad doesn't work

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Community!

Today I bought my very first Thinkpad (Thinkpad Yoga). Unfortunately I do seem to be too think to use it properly...

I cannot figure out, how to enable the touchpad. I do not think it is broken or something, because the trackpoint and all buttons and also two finger swipe for scrolling work fine. I just cannot move the mouse cursor with the touchpad.

I the driver setting screen the touchpad and all its options are greyed out, too (see screenshot).

Does anyone have any idea, what I may be doing wrong?

Thanks a lot!

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 13 Touchpad is disabled - Scrolling & Gestures work

Has anyone ever made headway on this issue? I'm having the same problem. Scrolling and gestures are recognized, but moving the cursor and tap-to-click are nonfunctional. It's essentially stuck permanently in trackpoint-only mode, and the option to switch back has literally dissapeared. It started intermittently (would sometimes "fix itself" on restarting) but now the problem appears permanent and updating drivers does not solve the issue.

Answer:Touchpad scrolling doesn't work after Windows 10 upgrade

I don’t know what notebook model you have but fact is that not all notebook series are supported for Win 10 upgrade.
In such case the Win 10 drivers will not be released for such unit….

The touchpad scrolling requires additional touchpad driver…
If your unit supports Synaptics touchpad, you could also use the driver from Synaptics driver page:
http://www.synaptics.com/en/drivers.php

But currently driver for Win 10 isn’t available… you could try to install and use the Win 8.1 driver but I’m not quite sure if it will work properly….

The previous driver allowed for edge scrolling but latest version does not have the capability.I understand for those upgrading to Windows 8 with touch screen capability this is not an issue but what about us who do not have touch screen. In my opinion this is a major flaw. Please let me hear form you if you too are unhappy about the new Windows 8 Touch pad driver. By the way, I tried rolling the driver back but the previous driver causes serious erratic behavior. Below is a screen shot of the version for the newest Windows 8 Touch Pad driver.

This problem appears on Windows 8.1

Answer:[Dell touchpad] one finger scrolling feature missing on Windows 8 doesn't work

Try this:
1) Go into c:\program files\DellTPad\
2) In this dir I have
  a)  DellTouchpad.exe: this is the app called from control panel whose picture you posted.
  b)  DellTPad.exe alternate utility to set touchpad setting. When launching this I have this option (translating into english) "one finger actions/multi-finger actions", and then it allows you to set single finger vertical/horizontal scrolling.

At certain relatively slow speeds the scrolling jumps huge leaps regularly (probably after evey page or so). It's very bad with Chrome and Windows explorer, not so bad but noticeable in Thunderbird. I have set the scrolling to 1 line. My Synaptics drivers are the newest 10/04/2015. Also the treshold to start scrolling with middle button and trackpoint is very high - can't be that hard to make it smooth, so you could scroll very slowly? Please fix this soon... it's impossible to live with.

Then I downloaded the Ultranav driver, but after it asked for a restart, nothing changed. In mouse properties, I don't have access to "Advanced settings" to have access to the "Synaptics Control Panel".

I was having responsiveness issues with the trackpad for a while, then, i open my laptop one day and it's completely unresponsive, as well has the backlit keyboard not working (the hotkey still pops up that it's "lighting up" the keyboard, but no actual lights) and the trackpoint being completely unresponsive too. I've tried:- Restarting computer- Using Lenovo's various "fixing" softwares- Looking for a keyboard firmware shortcut for enabling/disabling trackpad, (doesn't exist on this computer)- Re installing drivers (Ultranav driver refuses to install manually, "driver installation failed")- Booting on a non microsoft OS (Booted on a linux Mint installation and it still doesn't work)- Booting into BIOS and looking for "enable/disable trackpad option", That option does not exist for me.- Opening up computer and checking the physical connection, All plugged in fine. When i open the device manager in windows there is no entry for the mouse whatsoever. The touch screen and the pen both work fine. I think it all points towards a hardware issue, i can pick up another trackpad on ebay for pretty cheap, but obviously i'd like to make sure that it would actually solve the issues.  The major confusion for me is that why would faulty trackpad hardware stop the backlit keyboard from lighting up? How are the two linked? Any ideas appreciated, Thanks!

Hi users, 2 weeks ago I bought the Thinkpad/Ultrabook S540. I really like the notebook but now I have the first problem with it.I just wanted to shut down the device (Win 7 Pro, 64-bit) and the display is off but the light above the ThinkPad symbol (The "i") is still on and the notebook is really loud. If I want to shut down it finally I have to press the on/off button for some seconds. What can I do? Or where is the problem? The same thing happens for example if I switch into power save modus and when I want to use the notebook it doesn't react. I have to press the button again for a longer time to shut it down and after that I have to start Windows again. Thanks in advance! Greetings from Germany  Benne

Answer:Shutdown of Thinkpad S540 does not really work

Hi All, I have the same problem on the same laptop type, however I experience this only when connected through cable (LAN). Through WLAN connection, I do not have this problem. Op.system: WIN7, 64bit. All Lenovo softwares and BIOS is updated to the most recent one a few days ago. Symptom: after shutting down, the laptop switches-off for a second, and then suddenly restarts, but only shows a blank-black display. The red dot lights, the fans are sometimes on and you can clearly hear that the laptop is on. No reacton any any keyboard touch or touchpad.Sleep and Hibernate symptoms are the same as Benne wrote. Can somebody fromLenovo check this issue? Thanks and regards,Mark

I just got my new S540 but unfortunately I have a small problem: The keypad backlight doesn't work. When I used the shortcut (Fn + space) in Win 7 Pro the symbol that you find on the spacebar appeared on the screen (but the backlight didn't work). And now with Win 8.1 Pro nothing happens when using Fn + space. Does anyone know what to do? Thanks, Bene

Answer:S540 keypad backlight doesn't work

I have the same problem, backlight does not work in win 8.1. Moreover, FN key led signalization is always of and I am not able to have it "pressed" all the time (1st press on, 2press off), works as a regular key under win 8. In WIN 7 everything works fine. Any help please? I made a fresh install of win 8.1 from Microsoft as the included recovery DVD's does not work at all - corrupted! Then I have downloaded Lenovo system update which installed all the drivers.

I have a ThinkPad Yoga S1 with a clean and up-to-date installation of Windows 10 Pro. Synaptics driver version 19.0.17.27 is installed.Two-finger touchpad scrolling rarely works in several UWP/Metro apps such as Calendar and Groove Music. When I attempt to scroll, a little crosshair appears on the screen and moves up and down instead of moving the page. Every once in a while it actually does scroll, but only at random and immediatey stops working again.Strangely enough, if the UWP window is in the background behind another window and isn't currently in focus, two-finger scrolling works fine. Non-UWP/Metro applications do not seem to be affected by this problem.Any help would be greatly appreciated.-gyokuroEDIT: I found a temporary workaround right after I posted this that doesn't fix the issue, but at least makes it less of an annoyance until this is fixed. If you click on the taskbar and then try to scroll in a UWP app, it works fine, and the tiny crosshair doesn't appear either.

I was having problems with the touchpad on my laptop, to be specific, with the scrolling feature. On some websites, it would suddenly stop scrolling, or the scrolling was choppy, or it would only scroll on every second attempt or so. It was a huge annoyance. I found a solution and want to share it here, in case someone has the same problem. It seems to be caused by a bug in the latest drivers. I downloaded an old driver for the touchpad and suddenly, scrolling worked like a charm. I used version 14.0.16 of the Synaptics driver. Do a google search for "14.0.16 synaptics" to find a download link. Uninstall the current driver first before you install the old one. Hope this helps. Edit: Unfortunately, installing the old driver breaks an important functionality. It is then no longer possible to keep one finger on the left ClickPad button while using another to move the cursor. Now I can't decide what's worse, wow...

I've been trying to adjust to the ELAN touchpad that is shipping with the new BestBuy TPY 14 Yoga. I've had this laptop for 5 days now and I am really fustrated with the ELAN touchpad / drivers and how two finger scrolling works.  I've owned 6 thinkpads over the years and none have ever used an ELAN touchpad. I don't know if there is such a thing but the touchpad uses ELAN drivers not synaptic. Windows 10 Home, using standard Lenovo drivers across the board. Uninstalled and reinstalled lateest ELAN drivers several times. EDGE and IE pages are scrolling slow sometimes, very fast sometimes, and fail to scroll at other times. Depends on the site I visit and seems consistent on those sites. Rarely is the two finger scroll perfect. Synaptic drivers always work perfectly on my old thinkpads with those touchpads.MS Main and Outlook scrolling the list of emails will not scroll. The scroll pointer icon appears but no movement. I have to finger scroll.I have adjusted the touchpad speed and mouse speed. I've checked and unchecked Enhanced Pointer options. The only think that these settings did was to slow down the perfect pages making these changes worse. Fast is fast ALL THE TIME. I absolutly love this laptop but this ELAN touchpad turns it into a potential boat anchor and renders it usless if you have ever gotten use to using a good one. I have a couple more days before returning. Answer:Lenovo B580 Touchpad scrolling doesn't working

hi Kreczr,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

If you have a Synaptics Touchpad, you can only use the synaptics driver. If you have an ELAN Touchpad, you can only use the elan driver. These two drivers are not interchangeable. To know which brand of Touchpad is installed on your PC, try to download AIDA 64 Extreme Edition and look under Windows Devices.

Sample Synaptics Touchpad

I have a DELL XPS M1530 laptop that I just installed a full version of Windows 7. It had Windows Vista on it before. It is a replacement computer for my old DELL (same model) that was having issues.

I usually hook up a bluetooth mouse when I use my computer, but I just noticed last night when I was using the touchpad instead, is that it does not scroll up and down, or left to right. The mouse part of the touchpad works fine, as does the left and right buttons.

I am assuming the scrolling is just turned off on this computer (thinking simply first ... hoping it is not a serious issue). But I cannot find where to check to see if it needs to be turned back on.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Touchpad scrolling does not work

There are only drivers for Vista and not Win 7. This may be an issue.
You could try the Vista driver under input devices.

Is anyone else expeiencing problems with their touchpad?I am finding the dual finger scrolling functionality on the touchpad problematic.it seems to work only intermittently, basically gets stuck or doesn't work at all sometimes.sometimes when it doesnt work, if I use the scrolling function with the with the track pointand then return to using it with dual fingure on the touchpad, it sudenly works again.I ask because I had an incredibly frustrating call with tech support today and they say there is nothing they can do,even though i purchaced the extra 4 year on site warrantee, they refuse to send an engeneer out as when doing remotetesting, everything appears to be fine on their end, even though for me its not fine. The say they can only send out an engeneer if they can see a pysical fault on their end.so I'm wondering if its a fault with the W520 or the thinkpad trackpad technology in general?Ive updated the drivers, and set sensitivity to most sensitive and fiddled around loads, with no success.ive even re-imaged the machine (yes)its very amoying concidering the price of these machines.thanksadam

Scrolling using the touchpad is not working on either of my acer notebooks after updgrading to 10. any ideas?

Answer:touchpad scrolling does not work on two acer notebooks

You need to install a proper Windows 10 compatible driver for your trackpad.
Windows 7 drivers most likely won't work, Windows 8/8.1 drivers might work in some cases but might also behave erratically.

Ok i have a Satellite L45 notebook and i need help.

I've looked all through the computer and tried everything and nothing seems to work.
I don't really know too much about computers to begin with and no one else i know can help me.

Mine still hasn't and it's driving me insane.

If anyone could help it'd be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much.

Answer:Satellite L45: touchpad scrolling feature does not work

Hi

Did you check if the touchpad scroll function has been enabled and configured properly?
Before you would reinstall the touchpad driver I recommend checking these settings.

Do you know where to find these settings?
You can find it in

+Control panel -> mouse -> last tab (device settings) -> Settings button+

Here you should check the *Virtual Scrolling*

Hello there,

the touch pads scrolling feature dosen't work any more, you know how the right side is to scroll up/down and the bottom for scrolling left/right, now it dosen't work.... my brother used my computer and he installed a bluetooth program, infrared driver, he used a USB mouse and installed Nokia PC suite.
NOW what do i do? HEEELP!!!!!!

Thanks.

Answer:Qosmio F20: Touchpad scrolling feature dosen't work any more

Hi

You brother has installed a lot of applications and also a USB mouse.
Who knows what he has changed on your notebook.

If the touchpad scrolling function does not work so I assume the settings were changed.
In your case I would recommend checking the touchpad settings.
You should find it under the mouse settings in the control panel.

As far as I know you can find these settings in the Toshiba touch and launch.

I recently got a new laptop with Windows 8 and upgraded to Windows 8.1.

I absolutely love the two finger scroll feature. It's very convenient in web browsers and the start menu. However, it doesn't always work, and I can't find a trend for when it works. It simply works sometimes and not others.

Where can I configure the settings so that I always have two finger scroll?

Answer:Two finger scrolling doesn't always work

Thru playing around I found that 2 finger scroll won't work if one finger starts off of the edge of the pad. Make sure that both fingers plant on the pad itself when starting a scroll. I operate my pad with my left hand and I had a lot of trouble accidentally hitting the left edge when I first got win 8. I long ago disabled whatever the left edge swipe was. The same might be true for the right edge for right-handers.

Currently 2 finger scroll is reliable for me. I guess it could also be a driver issue with your particular pad.

Hello,

Been through internet trying to look for an answer for my problem; how do I apply scrolling, pinching etc. on my touchpad?

Scrolling has never been working with this laptop (2 months old), and before now, even moving cursor was unreliable, since sometimes when launching the laptop the touchpad was completely dead and didn't react to anything.

Now there doesn't seem to be problems with that since I uninstalled touchpad driver and restarted my computer, but still scrolling doesn't work.

Troubleshooting for this problem has been no good.
They all lead you to first search for mouse in start screen -> mouse properties -> advanced and from there you can adjust mousepad settings.

I don't even have this tab on my laptop, while all other ones are there (buttons, pointers, pointer options, hardware).

How can I adjust touchpad settings on Satellite z30-A-1DJ?

Answer:Scrolling doesn't work on Satellite Z30-A-1DJ

The mentioned touchpad features should be supported by software as well as hardware.
There are different touchpad standards like Synaptics, Alps as well as Elan which support different features and different software.

In case such software isn?t installed or does work properly, the touchpad scrolling as well as other features would not be available.
It could be also possible that the built-in touch module would not support additional features.

From my knowledge the Satellite Z30-A-1DJ should be equipped with an Alps Electric touchpad and this touchpad is different and does not support the same settings liek Synaptic or ELAN touchpad.

However, as you mentioned, the additional settings for Alps Electric touchpad can be found in
control panel ? mouse ? last tab (Advanced)

If you want, you could try to install the Synaptics touchpad driver which was released for other notebook series like Portege Z10T-A

I?m not quite sure if this Synaptics software would work properly in connection with the Alps electric touchpad but its definitely worth a try.

Hello! I have installed the Win 10 enterprise LTSB the trial version. So far, so good, with the exception of two details:

- The scrolling of inactive windows isn't working properly. I mean, it works only when the "Settings" window is the active, then I can scroll the inactive windows underneath it, but nothing else.

- I tried to update the system, hoping that it would fix the issue, but it doesn't download anything.

Maybe the update function is disabled in the trial version?

EDIT:

I updated it, but that still didn't fix the problem.

Answer:Scrolling inactive windows doesn't work

One more edit;

Maybe it has something to do with synaptic touchpad driver? I couldn't find anything related to it. I tried it on my desktop, it works with the mouse, but here on my laptop it doesn't.

However, acer aspire drivers don't have the touchpad driver updated for Windows 10 yet. Do I have to wait until the driver comes out to fix this issue? If so, any idea how long that could take? (They have the important drivers updated already, those for bluetooth and wifi)

Both computers are 'old' but work perfectly as well as being deemed suitable for Windows 10 but a real pain without scrolling. Neither manufacturer have drivers for Windows 10 for these models. Pad works fine, just the scrolling not working. Any ideas?

Answer:laptops updated to Windows 10 and now scrolling doesn't work on either of them.

I have the same problem with my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop. I've tried installing drivers for different Dell Inspiron models that are Windows 10 supported with no success. I've even tried installing drivers intended for different brand (eg Lenovo, HP, etc.), Windows 10 supported laptops with no success. If you find a solution please let me know so I can try it on my machine.

There's a special rules list for TrackPoint scrolling under "C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\TP4table.dat". Not sure how to define a rule though.

The Thinkpad sticker with the red light above the 'i' doesn't turn on unless the screen turns to tablet mode. Is there any way for the light to stay on all the times? The one near the keyboard does work, the issue is with the light on the outside lid.

I have been facing this issue from the day one since I installed Windows 10 on my laptop (Dell XPS L502x).

Native Windows Applications like all browsers, office products etc. anything that is not from the Store, works fine. I can use Touch Pad scrolling with no trouble. e.g. on Internet Explorer, Chrome, MS Word, etc.

But the apps that come out of store or the apps like those which come pre-built with Windows 10 such as new Settings UI, Microsoft Edge. Touch Pad scrolling just don't work with these apps. When I perform scrolling the scroll-icon appears but doesn't scroll the content.

This issue is only with Touch Pad. External Mouse works great with scrolling on any kind of app.

Hope to find a solution here.
Thanks

PS: drivers are all good on the machine and up to date with no warning or error.

I have an X1 Carbon that I recently upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. All the drivers were properly updated as part of the upgrade and most everything is working nicely, except that two-finger scrolling doesn't work in the Metro apps (Edge, PC Settings, etc.). Two-finger scrolling works perfectly everywhere else, just not in the Metro apps. Both Windows Update and Lenovo System Update report that everything is up-to-date. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Synaptics drivers but it didn't help. I'm running version 19.0.17.27 of the Synaptics pointing device driver. Anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Two-finger scrolling doesn't work in Windows 10 for metro apps

Bump.

Another interesting data point is that my work computer (a Lenovo T440p) is also running the same version of the Synaptics driver (19.0.17.27) and two-scrolling works fine everywhere, so the problem seems to be model-specific.

Answer:T42 ethernet port doesn`t work and screen sticks when scrolling

Installing the driver is just the first part of the process, after that you must go into Win subfolder and run the setup files from there. For instance, your graphics driver would be in C>Drivers>Win>Video and your Ethernet in C>Drivers>Win>Ethernet

You get the idea.

Don't forget to download the chipset driver available on T42 driver page.

Good luck.

The Touchpad on a cliënts S540 is not working anymore. It started with complaints about non-responsiveness when the laptop woke from sleep (after being closed and opened).I've tried to install the latest drivers (18.0.7.99) from the Lenovo website but that didn't give a solution. The laptop is running Windows 7 Professional 64bit.

Hello, To begin, sorry for my  english, it's not my native language. I have bigs problems with the touchpad of my VN7 for weeks. Indeed, at the beginning, i used my laptop and suddendly my touchpad stopped to work without reasons. When i rebooted my laptop, the touchpad worked during a few minutes then it didn't work again. I've upgraded my laptop on windows 10 and i've downloaded the last drivers but the issues were the same. Actually, the touchpad doesn't work at all even if it's detected in the control panel. Answer:VN7-791 touchpad doesn't work

Hi, Probably the question is stupid, but I give a try. In Settings, Devices, Mouse and Touchpad do you have the setting "Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected" off?If yes, try to disconnect all the USB devices from your PC and try to see if the touchpad is working. If not try to see if FN+F7 will help, but I don't really expect to help. Also, you could try to turn off the mentioned settings. Not the last, in device manager isn't your touchpad by mistake disabled or has a yellow exclamation mark?

I don't get why my touchpad doesn't work when I unplug or turn off my mouse. I found all the settings. I realize I may get an answer I don't want. Download drivers etc..

I can live with this problem (unless I suddenly don't have my other laptop), especially after spending the night searching for, downloading and installing drivers for my other laptop. I was surprised to find that the windows 7 professional (my home machine is windows 7 home) didn't provide me with network and other drivers. I wasn't seeing any wireless connections. Initially I was using an internet stick and the problem wasn't visible. I take that machine out with me. I had it home last night and that's when I found the problem. And trying to get that touchpad driver had me wondering about this one. I don't use my laptop keyboard on my home machine, preferring a natural contour full keyboard I plug in, so I never deal with the touchpad, otherwise I'd be hitting it all the time, which I used to do. I am a mouse guy. If I had to to take this machine out, the touchpad thing would drive me nuts. Any thoughts?

Answer:Touchpad doesn't work

Hi Aarby,

Some computers have keyboard shortcuts which could be a separate key on the keypad or a combination of the Fn + any other Function key depending on the system model for enabling or disabling the touchpad. Since you have not mentioned the system model of your computer, some steps you may try are:

1.Go to Control Panel > Mouse > Device Settings>Click Enable (if disabled).

2.Check under Mouse Properties in Control Panel>Hardware>Mouse. There may be a check-box for Disable Touchpad/Pointing Stick when external USB mouse is present. If this is checked and you connect an external mouse to your laptop, the touchpad may be disabled.

Additionally, we recommend you check the system manual or try some of the steps mentioned in the link below.

Hope this helps resolve the issue. Please reply if you have further queries.

It's really weird because I checked it in my device manager and it says that everything is okay.
Now I've reinstalled my whole computer because I thought that it doesn't work because of the drivers.
It still doesn't work.

Hi Team, When I am using my laptop while sitting on a couch, it seems to get warm really easily and then the touchpad seems to stop working. It operates very funny and tries to change the screen size. I have to reset the Synaptics pointing devices everytime it hangs. If I keep it on a stand or hard cover, then it seems to work better and it barely hangs. Would you know as to why that happens frequently as I travel a lot and can't find a support to put in underneath everytime. Thanks for your help. Regards Sidd

Note to Admin: I think this is the operating system itself, as I remember there have been updates inbetween (and after). If this is some sort of virus, I apologize and please move to appropriate thread.

On my HP PC with windows 8.1 I've always been able to just log in. The last 2 days though, the touchpad/keyboard won't react (so I can't insert my password) when I first start the computer. When I then command "restart" (with the mouse, which does work), I get the same loginscreen but this time I can use my touchpad/keyboard.

So this problem is manageble (just always restart after just havign started the computer ), but I would like to understand why it goes wrong at the initial start up. Any ideas?

Anyway on my Acer something happened after i bought, Acer doesn't do anyhting about it, and its a major problem they have. Or does someone have an idea on how to fix this. I am also using windows 8.1

Hello everyone.

Recently, I did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium on my MSI GE600. At first, the touchpad behaved the way it should. But now, it is not even detected. I rebooted the laptop and it worked again. Most of the time it doesn?t work though.

I have installed the Elantech driver of the MSI site, so I?d like to know what you think the problem is and how to fix it.

Thank you so much in advance.

Answer:Touchpad often doesn't work

I have recently dealt with this same issue on an Asus laptop. The touchpad does not function correctly, but the issue is sporadic. A USB mouse works fine.

The first thing I needed to determine was if this was a hardware problem or a software problem (OS or Drivers).

So what I did was wait until the touchpad stopped working and then rebooted with a Linux Ubuntu USB stick connected. Booting into Ubuntu I found the touchpad still did not respond. This told me that the problem was hardware. The touchpad has to be replaced.

So that is what I would suggest. You need to know what kind of problem you are dealing with so you know in which direction to focus your efforts.

Answer:Thinkpad Edge AMD Touchpad sometime work and sometime won´t

Shahal,

Maybe you can tell us a bit more ?   When you first start up, does the touchpad work?  How about the trackpoint?

Are the times when it does not respond seem totally random, or perhaps in association with certain programs, tasks, or length of time since start up?

At times where the touchpad doesn't respond, do it's click buttons still work?

Does changing the sensitivity settings make any difference?

Hey fellas..

I have Toshiba Satellite L40-18W, bought from middle east and unfortunately its touch pad isn't working.. I checked and rechecked every possible place if anything is disabled or not properly configured but found nothing.

As there were quite a few errors in the OS I formatted my hard disk and installed WXP Prof, installed all the drivers but the touch pad still ain't working. I am very confused as before and after formatting the pointer moves a little when I use the touch pad at the beginning of start up???

Please help..

The best check is to install operating system with original Toshiba recovery image and test it with ?factory settings?. In this case touchpad should work properly. If not contact the service and let them check your notebook.

Sorry but I don?t see other solution for you.

Welcome to the TenForums

First off create a restore point.

Within the settings for Synaptics, at least on mine, there is a restore all defaults, have you tried this. To isolate it is a Touchpad issue, and not something in Windows, do you have access to a mouse. Do right clicks work on a mouse?

If you go to device manager and find your device and look at driver, is the Roll Back driver greyed out. If so you can't roll back but if it is enabled you might want to try rolling back.

My problem is that ever since I upgraded to Windows 10 (and chose not to keep your pre-installed mess and unwanted antivirus software) I haven't been able to get my touchpad working.  EDIT:It seems to me that your search function for the site was bugged, the first time I used your tool to copy and paste my Serial Number the tool wouldn't find the model. As of now, I still don't get any search results when searching for "ES1-331" on the site (using Google Chrome). It's extremely frustrating that a simple search for the model doesn't show up any results, and that in some cases you are directed to a "buying" page, instead of a support/drivers page. I'm still confused as to how the site works, fix this please! I've already done the following:-Windows Update (Up to date)-Fn+F7 hotkey to enable/disable the touchpad Regardless, I've managed to install the touchpad drivers for Windows 10 before the download site went down. Installed for the correct OS (Windows 10 x64) rebooted, tried Fn+F7 combination, touchpad still didn't work. EDIT2: I finally managed to get it working, I still don't know exactly what I needed, but I installed a few of the drivers I found on the site for the model. Drivers found at www.acer.se/ac/sv/SE/content/drivers/-;YOURSERIALNUMBERHERE For those with the same issue, try installing both Touchpad drivers (Elantech and synaptics) as well as the IO, Chipset, TXE drivers. Answer:Satellite M40: Touchpad doesn´t work

Hi,

if your touchpad is not shown in device manager there are two possibilities. If there is shown an unknown device you have to reinstall the driver. If not there must be a hardware problem that has to be solved by service.

Answer:Satellite C70-B - Touchpad doesn't work

Hello

On this virtual way it is not easy to say for sure what the problem is but I cannot imagine that touchpad is defective after short period of time. Although, everything is possible.

Please check in device manager if touchpad is properly installed and listed there.
If there is everything OK, be sure touchpad is enabled properly. Check please FN+F5 key combination.

Cannot use touchpad and keypad at the same time. Shift keys are the only keys I can use at the same time as touchpad. Everytime I diable smartsense it turns itself back on when I go back into settings. This doesn't matter as it does not work anyway, it continues to disable touchpad when using keypad regardless of smartsense being on or off.   Also changed general settings so there is no delay and toucpad is always on, doesnt make a differnce either way.

Answer:Touchpad doesn't work with Windows 8.1 OS

Try to use a mouse and see if that works. If it works, download and install the appopriate drivers for your laptop from Acer ( http://www.acer.com/worldwide/support/ ).

Hello! So yesterday morning my laptop completely shut down and I couldn't figure out what was happening. I had things to do, so I left it. When I came home, I opened it up and found out that the entire thing had been updated to Windows 10, and I don't know how since I never gave permission. Anyways, I figured there was nothing I could do so I got over it. But as the day went on, I discovered that my touchpad doesn't work whatsoever. I searched this problem and heard that I'm supposed to tick scrolling off in settings. Since then, two finger scrolling works, but NOTHING ELSE (even though all the boxes are ticked). This is very frustrating because I now can only use my laptop with a mouse, which means it's basically a computer for the time being. Please help! Thank you!

Sometimes, my touchpad doesn't work after waking it from sleep or turning it on. I have to plug in a mouse to move the cursor, however even with the mouse plugged in, the touchpad doesn't work. I already sent the computer to Lenovo and they updated drivers. Also, if the touchpad isn't working, the trackpoint doesn't work as well. Any ideas? Thanks.

I have an Ideapad Z580 Windows 7. The touchpad isn't working. I installed the driver restarted the laptop and it works fine. When I close the laptop or shut it down, and turn it back on, the touchpad completely stops working. I've tried the US and the chinese driver, the Intelligent touchpad dirver. Everything else works but the touchpad. I usually stick with HP. But I saw Lenovo in Transformers and said why not it's good enough for them. I don't know what to do now. So frustrated.

Answer:Z580 touchpad doesn't work.

Hi glentastic,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the Lenovo Community,

Am sorry to hear about your issue,

I?d like to ask you to press on FN + F6 together to make sure that the touchpad is enabled if still the same,

Maybe you can try to start the recovery for the system through the one key recovery button which is going to return the machine back to the initial state like a new machine,

But please take a backup from your data before starting in the recovery and please check the below link for the One key recovery:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT062552

Hope the information helps. Let us know.

Regards

Soha

I used my Lenova Yoga 2 in tablet mode a lot over the past few days and now when I switch back to laptop, the mouse pointer doesn't come up in my Chrome browser.  It appears to work elsewhere, just not in Chrome...any suggestions?

Answer:Touchpad doesn't work in browser

Try updating the touchpad driver. Not sure of the exact model of your unit so I can't give you the link. Just find the correct driver here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/

Hi. I have a Dell Inspiron 14. 2Gb Memory Core2Duo.

I can;t scroll Sideways but I can going up and down.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Dell Touchpad not scrolling Sideways. But scrolling Up & Down

On both my Acer aspire one netbook (synaptics) and my Lenovo notebook (alps) I need to tab twice on the lower edge of the touchpad (to gain its attention?!?) and then it will scroll. Beyond that I believe you need to take a walk on the Dell support web site. There are number of 14xx models so you need to follow the steps there to find the freshest driver for your particular model. On both of mine the newest drivers have given scrolling as well as "pinching" to re-size pages, photos etc.

Hello. Last week a got a brand new ThinkPad E460 factory sealed for work. And it've had troubles with it out of the box, I have a ThinkPad T450s private and have never experienced anything like this on my private laptop. So of the bath to tends to freeze at Lenovo logo in BIOS boot screen. And I have to press a bunch of keys for it to continue. I think I might have fixed this issue by disableing secure boot and anti-theaft. It didn't always happen, but it happend every morning at work. I disabled these features now so I can't confirm or deny if that problem is competely ficked. I have of coruse updated the BIOS and all drivers. My second issue is that EVERY time, not only when I restart but also if I sign out of my account and back in again is that my TouchPad refuse to work if I don't click a key (any key) on the lenovo keyboard in addition to this left arrow key is in a loop. This is really annoying as I use this with a dock at my workplace. If I move the coursor to a textfield with my external mouse or the Trackpoint (that works fine regardless if I click on the keyboard or not) I will see the corusing being moved to the left contantly untill I click a key at the keyboard. What is going on? These issues seems really strange to me and not something you'd epxect.

The touchpad and trackpoint work up until the point where I login. They work on the login page, but not after. I am running Windows 7. When I go to the mouse settings, they are both disabled, but it is grayed out and won't let me enable them. When I click fn+f8, nothing happens. This problem has been occurring for about a week now...the pen still works as a mouse however, and that is what I have been using

I have had a Thinkpad S540 for a few months, and have it installed as dual boot Windows 8.1 and arch linux.  After completely shutting the machine down from linux I found that the battery would be down to around 70% charge after three days unused, and decided to investigate this problem since it was not reasonable for a new battery to lose charge at anything like this rate. By chance I came across a piece of information concerning the issue of disabling WOL (Wake on LAN) on the network interface, since I had seen one report that by default WOL is enabled and this requires power to be going to the network interface even when shut down in order to be able to respond to magic packets to start the machine up when it is shut down. First I checked the BIOS WOL setting and found it was set to "AC only" by default. So I changed it to disabled. This machine has the latest available BIOS version 1.54. However on investigating this after rebooting in linux I found that  # cat /sys/class/net/enp3s0/device/power/wakeupenabled# ethtool enp3s0 | grep Wake-onSupports Wake-on: pumbgWake-on: g So WOL was still enabled despite it being set to disabled in the BIOS! I learned that I can make sure that in arch linux the WOL setting can be changed to set to disabled after bootup by using a udev rule: # cat 70-disable_wol.rulesACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="net", KERNEL=="enp3s0", RUN+="/usr/bin/ethtool -s enp3s0 wol d" Then rebooting the machine I check... Answer:Thinkpad S540 possible BIOS bug concerning WOL

Anyone running windows in the same laptop can check the same issue of battery drain due to WOl being enabled by default - in the Device Manager under the network card, opening the settings menu for the ethernet wired card the default for Wake-on-LAN on my computer was set to enabled. This can be changed to disabled, and you may need to also disable the setting for Wake on Magic Packet. Also in the Power Management tab it is possible to uncheck the settings for "Allow this device to wake the computer" and "Only allow a magic packet to wake the computer" In my laptop these were all set to enabled by default.

Good day! I recently (2 days ago) purchased a brand new S540 laptop. It worked fine, until I discovered a problem with AMD GPU.So I have 2 GPUs: Intel HD 4400 and AMD Radeon 8670M. I have the Windows 8 OS. The problem is: any time the laptop is switching to AMD GPU the screen goes black for a fraction of a second, and then I have a notification "driver failure" in windows tray. I installed ALL possible drivers, nothing helped. The AMD GPU doesn't seem to work at all. Moreover, I updated to Windows 8.1 through Windows market, and this caused huge new troubles: when I try to install the GPU driver I have a bsod with a message "thread_stuck_in_driver", something like that, and OS restarts; after restart I can't even see the login window, seems like windows is trying to initialize AMD GPU and I have same blue screen and another restart, only disabling the 8670M video adapter in safe mode helps, but again, exactly until I try to install/enable it again.I did a factory reset, restored Windows 8 back. Disabled OS update to ensure that I have a laptop "exactly as designed", and again, same problem.I assume this is a hardware problem, am I right? The laptop was in a brand new box with factory stickers. Thanks!

Answer:ThinkPad S540 AMD GPU PROBLEM!!!!

Ok, no response Is this thing official, can I hear a feedback from Lenovo support guys?I sent the laptop back for diagnostics.I'm afraid that seller will tell me to repair the laptop; for free of course, but I'm not happy to pay full price for repaired device. In such case I can ask to reduce the price, but can't find how much the AMD 8670M costs. Maybe someone here can help? In % for ThinkPad S540 - how much would that be? 10%? 20%?Thaks!!
