I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Parsec3d,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

The new ThinkPad Yoga 12? is having onboard memory, which is integrated on the system board only and this cannot be upgradable. You can purchase either with 4Gb or 8Gb RAM.

Hello, I am looking for a laptop which can be securely attached/locked (so that I can let it during the night in the office). Could you please tell me if the following laptops have a security slot (Kensington or similar) to attach it somewhere?THINKPAD X1 CARBON (5TH GEN)THINKPAD X1 YOGA (2ND GEN) I do not find it described in the specifications, but from the available pictures, it seems that they have some kind of security slot. Thanks!

Hi, I've got a Thinkpad Yoga with the built in 128gb SSD, and have been thinking about upgrading the storage. As it came with the 128gb SSD from the factory, I'm assuming the M2 slot will be free... Does anyone know what the specifications of the M2 slot are, or if it is usable for a non-caching drive? I'd love to put in a 512gb M2 SSD for my additional storage needs - it would just complete what I see as an otherwise perfect device. Obviously if this is not possible, I will simply replace and clone the existing SSD, but if I can avoid that it'd be ideal. Thanks!

I have a ThinkPad Yoga 14 with a EM7455 WWAN broadband card in the M.2 slot.  I can not for sure locate the SIM card slot so I can put in broadband provider sim (like one from T-Mobile or AT&T).  Documentation shows it on the back opposite the fans with a pin hole to pop out a SIM tray.  There is no slot on back of the case. I took the cover off the botton of the Yoga 14, which is where the M.2 slot is located.  At the back about where there should be a SIM card tray, there is a 8 contact SIM socket labeled SIM1 on the motherboard.  I am assuming this the cellular SIM card socket, but it will not take a micro-sim card.  It is to loose to hold it.  It looks like it needs a sim tray.Anyone have any experience with a ThinkPad Yoga 14 sim card or have a suggestion?  Photos of motherboard and sim slot below.    Thank you, Gerry          ??                                                                                          &... Hi all, I've just taken ownership of the ThinkPad Yoga 370 and suspect that the Micro SD slot is faulty.  Basically, the card gets sticker into the slot once pushed in and it'll take a long time to slowly pull out the card from the slot. Also, the notebook doesn't detect the card when it's in.  Im pretty sure I got the right side of the card into the slot.  Can anyone confirm if the slot is suppose to eject the card with a "spring" motion? Cause I don't have that, that's why it's sticker.

Memory upgrade is supposed to be very simple on the unit. After approx 18 months of ownership I decided to add memory. The bottom memory slot works fine and had been in operation with the stock 4gig stick. I added an 8 gig Crucial stick that was a verified choice to the top slot, using the lenovo instructions and a video for my unit (E531). It didn't register the new addition, and during install, I noted the top slot (the little brackets/rails at the outsides) looks slightly different than one in the youtube video (for that exact model) and other pics, like on the lenovo site. While the memory stick will slide in and lock (click) at the top, it doesn't register with my Windows 7 OS and it looks like the side tabs of the assembly aren't "right." I stopped, went to a local qualified tech store, and the owner who was familiar with Lenovo product (spoke well of them) called it "odd" and tried moving the new 8 gig stick to the bottom and the old 4gig to the top. The result was the 8 gig stick now showed fine, but not the 4 gig. So it seems there's something off with the top slot, and I don't know if it's an odd unit or what. It had been sent to Lenovo before undr warranty for an optical drive repair (Jan 2014 # A06RWZ3). The factory warranty is now expired. Any input from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Problem with upper memory slot in Thinkpad Edge E531

Rather than delete my now-resolved issue, I'll describe what I did in case someone esle runs into it--- Now keep in mind (see original post) that an experienced tech went through the process without finding what I found after deciding to "go at it one more time" (very focused but calm) but being firmly of a mind that this should really work easy enough, too: The "odd" look of the upper slot, and the seemingly proper amount of "slide and click and lock" of both old and new stick into the top slot were misleading. With notably more of a push forward (to me an uncomfortable amount) with the stick itno the top slot, I got a slightly more substantial "click and lock" and the position/ and ook of the top side rails is closer to what's in the video and pics (though still seems a little different, best I can see). But this situation may not even be representative of every unit. Anyhoo, both sticks in both slots are recognized by the OS now, and what the heck, after owning this thing for this long it's probaly good I finally joined.

The current configuration of my system (as bought) is 4Gb RAM.  According to the specifictions, it is upgradable to 8Gb.  I had a conversation with Sales Support via Chat trying to find the correct part number for 8Gb memory to replace the 4Gb.  I was told that as my system is still under warranty, I would need to contact Technical Support for this to happen.  Having done a number of searches on this forum, would I be right in suspecting that the existing 4Gb is soldered in to place - hence the need for a Warranty call to upgrade.  I was advised that any attempt to make the change myself would void the warranty.Any thoughts please.

I recently purchased a Yoga 11e 20d9 model and so far I'm loving it.  However, I wanted to upgrade the memory from 4gb to 8gb.  I purchased Crucial 8GB Single DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) as all the reviews I read said this was okay to use, however, everytime I install the memory and I try to charge the laptop at the same time it crashes.  I can run windows 10 perfectly without issue up until I try to charge it.  I can charge ther laptop when the laptop is off but for the life of me I can't get it to coexist.  I installed the original ram and everything works perfectly.   Even if I'm in bios, as soon as I plug in the charger the laptop will crash.  It literally has rips on the screen and everything fades out.  As soon as I unplug it, the laptop works flawlessly.   I returned the memory and got a replacement and it does the same exact thing.  I updated both the BIOS and battery firmware.  I am out of ideas.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,  I have a Thinkpad Yoga S1 which has served me well for a year or so.  Recently it has started to develop a problem where it "stalls" upon boot.  1. Laptop is powered off2. Press power button3. laptop keyboard lights up and fan begins spinning4. about 3 seconds later the entire system shuts down5. The process repeats Sometimes I can leave it in this cycle for 3+ minutes and it'll just keep cycling. If I close the screen it halts the cycle (shuts the computer down) and occassionally upon power up it'll cycle a couple of times and then boot into Windows. Here is a video of the symptom: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THCn6yFuprY   When it has booted into Windows, I have taken the liberty of running a Lenovo Solution Centre hardware scan. Processor, Memory and Motherboard all came back good. However, when I tried to update the BIOS, the system returned an "Error-116 Failed to read BIOS from ROM" Further, "Error 116" is listed as an IBM System board read/write error.  Unfortunately my warranty ran out a couple of months ago, so I'm looking at a self fix, and don't have any appetite to pay £800 for a new main board (besides, the one in my laptop was a new one installed by IBM under a warranty repair 4 months ago! It shouldn't be broken).  Can anyone suggest any fixes?

My brand new Edge 11 (2545-3RG) that supports Max 2x2GB=4GB RAM was delivered with 2GB RAM in SLOT-0 (FRU 55Y3716, 2GB PC3-10600 DDR3-1333, which is the default, according to the hardware maintenance manual and the information on Lenovo Support site). In order to upgrade to 4GB Dual channel, I put an identical second 2GB stick (also FRU 55Y3716) in SLOT-1.The following happened:-  BIOS recognizes that 4096MB are installed.-  Win 7 x64 reports in System Properties that "Installed memory (RAM): 4GB (1.75GB usable)".The size of the usable RAM, 1.75GB is 2GB in SLOT-0 minus 256MB allocated for the graphics.- Windows applications can only "see" and use 1.75GB - Special utilities, such as Speccy, do "see" both modules.Speccy reports Total Memory Size as 4096MB. It is also supposed to display some detailed information about the memory in both slots. The information about the memory in SLOT-0 (here called Slot #1) contains, as expected, all details about Manufacturer, Part number, Serial number etc. However, the detailed information about the memory in SLOT-1 (here called Slot #2) is missing! Not even frequency in Max Bandwidth field is displayed! The bottom line is that the memory in the second slot (SLOT-1) is unusable. To avoid speculations, there is 100% guarantee that all memory sticks are in full working order. Has anyone else had this problem? skylark

Answer:Edge 11 memory upgrade failure - 2GB PC3-10600 DDR3-1333 memory in the second slot is unusable

I have experimented a lot and found a temporary workaround. If  you keep the original 2GB PC3-10600 DDR3-1333Mhz in SLOT-0 and put instead 2GB PC3-8500 DDR3-1066Mhz  in SLOT-1, suddenly the second stick is correctly recognized everywhere, and everything works as it should. As a curiosity, the opposite doesn't work at all and the laptop won't even boot!Even if this workaround does work, the core issue still remains.Lenovo, please provide a response to this hardware issue! skylark

Hi,

When I connect Thinkpad Yoga (model 20CD00B1US) to the onelink dock, the stylus stops working.

In order to enable the stylus and Wacom driver following 2 options/ workarounds:
1)  Manually stop and restart the Wacom ISD Service
2) or reboot the machine while the Onelink dock is attached.

I'm using the latest 7.2.0-4 Wacom driver version, all latest lenovo software installed installed on the machine.

Both above mentioned workarounds are ugly, does anybody have a better suggestion to fix this issue?

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

I am hhaving difficulty finding an acceptable scaling mix between resolution, system scaling, and edge scaling. At 1080p, 125%, 125%, os navigation is mostly fine, but edge text is way too large. At 1080p, 125%, 100%, edge text is way too small. At all combinations text is inflated (but crisp) in certain elements while fuzzy in others. What scaling combinations work best for you? I am considering returning this to Best Buy and upgrading to a Pro 4 / Book, or even a Mac. The scaling is ruining an otherwise great experience.

Hi chiakri.

I have a TPY 14 (20DM008UUS) and I'm happy with this model. I didn't not compare it to the TPY 12, but mine is working fine and have no issues. It didn't came with a pen, but it supports "Active pen", so I bought a Thinkpad Pen Pro and it worked fine.

I prefer to stick with the 14" screen but that is more about personal prefence. Maybe if you like to use it very much on tablet mode with a pen, possible the 12" will be more confortable to hold as a book.. but I'm just guessing.

Hey guys, I'm a PreMed student who's life revolves around his laptop. I'm always on social media, watching some show, listening to music, doing an essay, taking notes, updating some website, or emailing some person on campus. Of course, my old laptop broke. It was a Dell Inspiron. Now, I have a campus job and have been saving money(so money is not factor necessarily). After researching my options, I've narrowed my choices down to the three previously listed laptops. I just want to know which do you guys suggest and why?

Answer:Surface Book vs Lenovo Yoga 900 vs ThinkPad X1 Yoga

By looking at your requirement, you prefer on-the-go PC that lets you do all that on a decent budget, SP4 is better than SB(if you want lightweight device and decent battery life), Lenovo's are pretty good too. X1 w/o OLED seems to be a better buy in terms of ultraportability and battery life. You could wait for others to chime in.

(First of all sorry for my english. Hope you understand me)  I'm looking for a slot-in DVD drive for my Thinkpad T61. I live in Hungary and I've found only two affordable options. Get a Samsung slim slot-in drive or a MacBook's SuperDrive (maybe Panasonic or LG). I still have my guarantee so if I buy one of them; can the service "fit in" to my Thinkpad? I mean, I have to buy a special "only for Thinkpad" DVD drive or one of these also good?

Answer:Slot-in DVD for Thinkpad T61

Well there are over 500 different slim-line and super-slimline DVD drives on the market, some of them with special firmware versions and some of those drives are build as slot-in drive versions. Even most of the sizes (12,7x129x128 mm) and connectors (JAE 50 pin) are to 98% equal, there still some differences and things to take into account. The overall problem with a slot-in DVD drive will be to find a suitable front-panel for a Thinkpad T61: http://www.notebookreview.com/picture.asp?f=22775  As you can see, beside maybe some possible firmware version conflicts, the main common problem for you with a Thinkpad T61 will be, to find a suitable front-panel for a third-party slot-in slim-line drive here! - BTW, I have a Samsung slim-line slot-in drive, which I use as a secondary external USB/Firewire drive when I travel. The front-panel which is supplied with the Samsung slot-in drive will not adhoc fit for a Thinkpad T61!

Hi all, I have a Yoga 2 Pro with Windows 8.1 Pro and the SD card slot is not working.  Reloaded the drivers, tried different SD cards and still can't get it to work.  Nothing shows up in disk management, its like the card slot doesn't exist. Tried a bunch of things with Lenovo tech support, but no solution.  Any ideas before I have to send it back to Lenovo and be down a laptop for 10 days? Thanks in advance for your help!

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro SD slot not working

Uninstall drivers and instead of installing drivers from the Lenovo website, just reboot windows and let windows handle the installation. See if that helps. Also check device manager to make sure there are no warnings on that specific device. Also check the SD card..make sure it is not in the "Locked" position. The reader would not be able to read it if it is locked.

The new generation of fast SD cards called USH-II has a second row of contacts.  While much faster download speeds are possible, the hardware and bus must support this standard.  While UHS-I cards can be used, UHS-II cards are potentially much slower in UHS-I slots. Does the Yoga 3 - or any Lenovo laptop - support UHS-II SD cards at this time? If they don't the workaround is to use a USB 3.0 card reader with a UHS-II slot.  The card readers run around $40.  Older card readeer are usually UHS-I.

That is a good question. Thanks for posting. I've been wondering about that myself.  I've used a Kensington cable lock for years on my ThinkPads, but haven't been able to with my Yogas. In the meantime perhaps someone who has a lock that fits will reply to help us out here.

Answer:My Thinkpad T450s has a SIM Slot

Welcome to the forum!

While some ThinkPads come with full WWAN support, many are shipped "WWAN upgradable" with a SIM slot and antennas, etc. but without the hardware card needed to connect to a WWAN. This allows the customer to add a WWAN card in the future. Are you sure your ThinkPad is the former?

Could you please post the machine type and model number (but not serial number) e.g. 20BX001PUS

I want to install a firewire port on my Thinkpad T30

There is a slot on the left hand side of the pc which i think is a pcmcia slot?

I just wondered if someone could confirm this before i buy a pcmcia firewire card?

And if it is, could anyone tell me whether its a type I, II or III, or better still post me a link to a firewire card that would work with my lappy.

Silly question i know, but thanks in advance for any answers.

Answer:Does my Thinkpad T30 have a pcmcia slot?

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-58227#exp
Scroll down to the section labeled "Expansion" or click on the "Expansion" link at the top of the article. Then look at the sub-section labeled 'PC Card'.

.... the answer is Yes. You have a PCMCIA port (2 actually if using Type I or Type II cards; the Firewire card is probably a Type III card, which will fit, but uses the space of 2 slots)

Hello, I have 2x1gb (same type) and 1x512mb (different manufacturer) ram sticks. With all seperatelly put in lower slot laptop works fine. If i put in 2x1gb i get 4 beeps and no boot, if i put 1gb+512mb i get black screen with no beeps. If i put any stick into upper slot i get 4 beeps. If i put no rams i get 1-3-3-1. I've tried to apply some pressure on slot - still 4 beeps with 2x1gb. I'm using latest bios version with default settings.  Looks like upper slot is faulty. Is there any way to fix it? Thanks.

You may need to get a new motherboard. That is the only way to fix it. Perhaps check on ebay or forum.thinkpads.com.Also check that there is no dust in the upper ram slot.

I have two staff members with different Yoga models, but with the same pen issue. Say, for instance, OneNote is open. The pen doesn't draw or write, but it can select and still be recognized. When I try using an old stylus from an HP Elitebook, it works TOTALLY fine - even the button on the pen functions properly. This suddenly started after months of the Lenovo pens working fine. I thought maybe it was a driver issue, but it can't be as the HP pen works.... I'm thinking it's the pen itself just getting worn down? It looks okay though but may be just a little loose... Any help / direction would be greatly appreciated!

Disclosure:  I received these laptops from Lenovo as part of their advocacy program, so huge thanks to the folks over at Lenovo. I don't receive compensation for my review, and as always, all opinions are my own.

The ThinkPad X1 Yoga is first modern ThinkPad that I've ever owned.  I?ve been using Lenovo?s Ideapad lineup for a very long time, and while I?ve used ThinkPads in the past, the X1 Yoga will be my first personal ThinkPad that I own.  So how does it stack up to the Yoga 910?  Let?s find out! I have the i7 UHD model of the Yoga 910 and the i5 FHD model of the ThinkPad X1 Yoga.  I tried out the latest Yoga 920, but I haven?t tried the latest X1 Yoga yet? hopefully, I will!

Hardware & Design
Even though both laptops carry ?yoga? in their name, the hardware behind them is vastly different.  The ThinkPad X1 Yoga has the classic ThinkPad black design, which is made of a carbon-fiber hybrid for the top cover and a magnesium-PPS hybrid for the bottom cover.  The Yoga 910 has a similar design from the Lenovo?s Yoga lineup, with an aluminum build throughout.

The ThinkPad only comes in two colors: classic black and silver; whereas the Yoga has a whole suite of colors to choose from, such as silver, copper, bronze, and even a few exclusive designs, such as the Vibe designs for the Yoga 920 and the Star Wars themed designs for the Yoga 910.

How deep is the sd card slot in mm?  Im looking for possible storage expansion options prior to purchasing.

Answer:Yoga 3 11 SD card slot depth.

hi BradB111,

Welcome to the Forums.

From this specifications page, the Yoga 3 11 can take a 4-in-1 card reader (SD, MMC, SDXC, SDHC).

These SD cards have the following dimentions:
SD / SDXC / SDHC - 32.0×24.0×2.1 mm (1.260×0.945×0.083 in)
MMC - 32 × 24 × 1.4 mm

From the info above, the SD card slot likely have an additional 1mm in its dimension (33mm L x 25mm W x 3.1mm H).

I wonder if anybody has experience on fitting an mSATA SSD into the M.2 slot with an adapter, or if you could point me towards more information on the subject? I upgraded from an X220T to the 2015 YOGA 12 and was left with an mSATA SSD. It's 256GB which is why I find it a good idea to try an accommodate it inside the YOGA instead of going through the hassle of selling it first and then ordering a compatible M.2 SSD drive. All info is greatly appreciated. .k

I've Thinkpad edge 13 n want to use the sim card slot at the back of notebook, how can I use that? n also I see the empty slot near the SODIMM slot, wondering what for that slot? If there must be a hardware to activate, where can I buy? Thanks

Answer:Simcard slot at Thinkpad Egde 13"

The slot you see is most likely for a wwan card.  If you bought your Edge with the wwan option, there would be a wwan card there and a couple of antennas. The sim would then be used for that.  If you didn't get the wwan option, then there are no antennas there and no card.  It would kinda be an involved job to install the antennas to hook to the card which isn't there in order to use the sim slot.

For quite a long time I've been planning to buy the Yoga 720. However, I don't have money to buy anything but the base model. Even though only 8gb of ram doesn't bother me too much at the moment, I would like to upgrade eventually down the line. A sales representative has shown me the PSREF. Through checking there, I seem to find that the only models with an extra slot are the ones that come with 16gb of ram (8gb soldered and an extra slot filled with 8gb stick). Does that mean that the model: 80X7001WUS  has only 8gb soldered in without room for upgradeability?  Thanks for any information.

Answer:Does the yoga 720 have an extra ram slot on the base model?

Hello and welcome,

If you scroll down the page you linked and expand specifications you'll find a link to the base spec.  The way I read it they all have a RAM slot which may or may not be occupied depending on specific MT-M.

That said, I have no personal experience with this model.  This is based on what I read below.

Hello! I just buy X1Y without WWAN-modem, because I don't really need it for now, and try to use empty WWAN M.2 slot for SSD like I did with all my previous Thinkpad's - so I install Transcend TS256GMTS400 that perfectly works at my previous Thinkpad Yoga 12... but SSD does not apper at BIOS! At "BIOS - Boot priority" there are some empty device named "NVMe0" - because of absent of external NVMe ports and present of Samsung SSD as different device at M.2 2280 slot, its possible can be support for NVMe-PCIE SSD at that WWAN-slot... but I can not find any SSD M.2 2242 NVMe at all world...  Also I dont find any WWAN-antennas near WWAN-slot. Also because of gluided Yoga touch screens its unpossible to install WWAN-antennas by user without waranty lose. So it seems that X1Yoga's that sell's without WWAN-modems does not support WWAN-modems at all! So after all those problems it seems that at all configurations of Thinkpad X1 without WWAN-modem this WWAN-slot is absolutely useless!!! PS Also X1 have flimsy soiled case, loud keybord and a specially very loud touchpad buttons and trackpad buttons!  Does Thinkpad X1 with such problems are really premium device?!?!?!  Any suggestions for WWAN-SSD?!

After much avoiding getting a M.2 2242 ssd for the E540, I have finally come to realize that there is a way to fit a M.2 ssd larger than 2242 format!    The E540 has a M.2 key B slot, making it compatible with all the 2280 ssd SATA 6.  These are not the super fast  NVMe & Pci-e 3.0 ssd.  I want to do this, because 2242 does not have alot of choice, especially for anythign larger than 256gb.  The M.2 2280 format on the other hand does have many options. The requirements seem to be a E540 with just the intergrated Intel graphics. My E540 does not have the dedicated internal nvidia GPU graphics card, and has lots of space near the fan like so: I examined that plastic that separates the M.2 Slot from the GPU & fan area and noticed that it can be filed down to fit a M.2 NGFF extender cable & card.  Such as this one:  After I file down the middle plastic material I will run the cable & card towards the GPU area. Doing this will force me to mount the SSD "upside-down" as to respect the M.2 slot cable pin order.  I plan to secure the board to one of the GPU heat sink mounting holes or since it is already upside down, I mount the relocation card to the cover it-self.  For extra SSD cooling I may need to drill some holes in the cover or purchase a E540 heatsink & fan with the GPU cooling pipe to allow for extra cooling. This should work, especially since I have read that the T440s u... Answer:Thinkpad E540 - M.2 slot - Fitting M.2 2280 ssd

It works! To test I have only connected just the cable to the Samsung 850 EVO - 500GB - M.2 2280 SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-N5E500BW). I used the Samsung migration tool to copy the C: partition.Unfortuntely, our M2 port runs at SATA II speed of 3.0 GB/s, not sure if this is BIOS or by design.  Having this SATA II speed issue be a risk is why I chose the Samsung 850 EVO for its RAPID mode via Samsung Magician, which helps reduce this pain. Without the Magician the preliminary un optimised speeds were: Sequential 283 MB/s read / 266 MB/s write. With the Magician turned on the first run speeds are: Sequential 4504 MB/s read / 3914 MB/s write. One downside I noticed is that the 16 pin FFC/FPC AWG VW-1 cable is very sensitive to the position at the connectors. Photos to come soon.

I was wondering if meanwhile it is possible to boot (let's say Kubuntu 16.04) from the internal SD slot. Right now I'm using a 32GB Sandisk USB dongle, which works perfectly for me, but there is this unused SD slot.Of course I read some topics throughout the internet and this forum, saying it wasn't possible (4-6 years ago) due to the SD card being connected to PCI-E bus so BIOS/UEFI can't access it. My UEFI-Version is 2.12 R07ET72W (2016-10-28).Notebook-Model is 20FW003MGE.On the SSD I'm using Win7 64 Pro. Is there a way now to boot from the SD card without an external card reader, or do I have to buy an aditional M2.2242 SSD, leaving the SD slot waiting for memory extension issues? Is there a list with supported M.2 SSDs? PS: Grub command ls doesn't recognize the SD card either.

Hi all,  I'm contemplating making a MAJOR lifestyle change and converting from Mac to Windows and am seriously considering buying a yoga machine, but, I'm a little un certain about what model would be the right fit .  Right now I'm using a newer model Retina MacBook Pro and have most of my files backed up to a minidrive card that sits flush in the SD card slot of my laptop. I'm hoping that I will be able to take this out and plug it into a new Yoga so that it maintains a flush fit and dosen't stick out at all. HAving said that I was wondering if anyone in the community could help me out and offer an estimate or exact measurement onthe depth of thier  SD ports. I recently purchased a Thinkpad E435 (Free DOS/Korean Keyboard/1TB HDD model). It came with 4gb RAM installed (DDR3 1600mhz) and I bought another 8GB stick (again, DDR3 1600mhz, SK Hynix). When I added the ram to the system today, it wasn't recognised. I took out the 4GB in the lower slot, and put in the 8GB, then it was recognised. I've tried both sticks in both slots, and everything works, but the BIOS and OS both can't see more than 8GB of RAM. The information sheet for the E435 states that it supports upto 16GB RAM, DDR3 1600mhz. What can I do? Will updating the BIOS help? Thank you in advance for any advice!  Dean

Answer:Thinkpad E435 - 12gb RAM, but only 4gb or 8gb recognised depending on the slot

This is the information sheet for the E435 and E535 provided by Lenovo: http://www.lenovo.com/shop/emea/content/pdf/ThinkPad/Edge/E435E535DSEN.pdf

Good day everyone  I'm looking for a docking station that has a PCI-E slot for my Thinkpad p51s.  I've seen there is an advanced docking station for the older Thinkpad but I'm under the assumption that the connector is different for my laptop, I haven't done much research on the matter.   any help will be greatly appreciated. thank you

Answer:docking station with pcie slot for thinkpad P51s ?

Hi aknowles,

Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.

Well I don't think so Lenovo makes dock with PCI-e slot but below are your options for docking stations

Mechanical Docks
USB Docks / Cable Docks
Thunderbolt Dock

I hope the above information helped you.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

while i am comfy with my laptop, my trusty computer has suffered a crash as of the late resulting in it's refusal to turn on sometimes and inability to start windows eventually i tracked my problem (through Bios Test and scans) to my RAM modules, after some time i figured it out both of my ram modules work fine (i tested them on my other laptops) but it seems the lower memory slot has failed, i managed to fix this simply by moving the 4gb ram module up to the secondary slot and it works again. but my computer is still under warrentey (and before you say anything there were no warnings about the removel of the modules in any documation or in the computer that would void the warrenty) and i was wondering how "failure of RAM slot" to go about fixing the slot as it is oviously a defective part. but it's also attached to the motherboard so... yeah. (exuse my spelling errors and grammar)

Another question from the Swedish Lenovo-newbie (I've had a IBM thinkpad earlier though): Does the Thinkpad L420 hdd-slot support Sata III ? Or is it just Sata I/II compatible?

Thinkpad: L420 | 2.4GHz i5-2430M | (2x8)16GB RAM| Intel 520 60GB SSD + Crucial M4 (mSata) 128GB SSD | 14"Thinkpad: L420 | 2.2GHz i3-2330M | (2x4)8GB RAM| Samsung 830 128GB SSD + Crucial m4 (mSata) 32GB SSD | 14" (BROKEN SCREEN)- I'm going to repair this one!

Hey all. The thinkpad yoga is going to be rolling out by the end of next week. There are all a lot of ppl waiting for the yoga 2 pro to get restocked. Is it a good time to maybe reconsider getting the thinkpad yoga instead? Pros and cons?

Answer:ideapad yoga 2 pro or thinkpad yoga

I am looking at the Thinkpad Yoga as an alternative to the Yoga 2 Pro as well. Looks like there are quite a few pros and cons to each.

Just curious, why is the new Thinkpad X1 Yoga I7, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, FHD about $1,000 more than the similarly equipped commercial Lenovo 910?

Is it the ThinkPad brand name? The eraser nubbin? The 2 combined?

Just curious.

I've got a friend who needs a new laptop. She likes the touch/fold aspect of my 1st gen Thinkpad X1 Yoga. Do you all think she would be happy with the commercial Yoga 910?

Any real reason to get the new plain FHD ThinkPad X1 Yoga instead of the similarly equipped commercial Yoga available at Best Buy besides spending an extra $1000 for the ThinkPad brand name?

I've owned 6 various ThinkPads since 2011 FWIW. I get it, they're cream of the crop. But I kinda got sticker shock when I just priced out a plain FHD (and we need nothing more) X1 Yoga. About  $2,800, wow!

Opinions and advice -- no spam please (thank you!) -- welcome.

Best to everyone...

Answer:Why is the ThinkPad X1 Yoga $1,000 more than a similar Yoga 910?

@Jelks, The biggest difference I see between the X1 Yoga (2nd) and the Yoga 910 is active pen support which seems to be missing from the 910. You could use a capacitive stylus, but expect fingertip resolution, not pinpoint, and no pressure-sensitivity. Fewer USB ports: no HDMI or MicroSD; no Thunderbolt. No TPM module, if you need to store encrypted creditials, e.g., for BitLocker. Not sure about battery life; they claim up to 9 hours of local video for the 910 vs. up to 15 of MobileMark for the X1. Not an apple-to-apple comparison. You're not going to get the (soon to be patched, at least for now) security hole that is Intel's vPro management tech. You may not get Windows 10 Pro, possibly just Home (but you could always give Microsoft the money to upgrade if you need BitLocker or Remote Access). You're not going to get all the "mil-spec" design and testing etc, but if it's a personal machine, you're probably going to avoid abusing it. As you suggest, the "wave" keyboard -- including the trackpoint "eraser nubbin" -- is definitely going to be more expensive on the ThinkPad than the plain Yoga keyboard. I used two generations of ThinkPads (T61p and W520), but about 3 years ago I switched to a Dell XPS 13. A year or so ago, I ordered a X1 Yoga 1st gen for my wife and she likes it very much, so I am pretty familiar with the design and capabilities. TLDR: I think most people would be happy with the 910 vs. X1 unless they want the active pen. Als... I have read from the forum that in Yoga 2 Pro have some problems in wireless. Did the Lenovo solved this problem or still it is the same? My second question about ThinkPad yoga 12.5. is it possible to use Lenovo motion technology at this Ultrabook? Or this technology only available in ideapad-s ?

Hi, Is it possible to add an SO-DIMM slot from factory if you request it when you make the order for this laptop ?Because I saw that the maximum memory available will be only 16GB of RAM soldered to the main board and I will like to add another 16GB RAM if it is possible.I saw that all of the processors available for this laptop can handle 32GB of RAM. Thank you !

I have recently bought a Thinkpad Yoga 460 with Thinkpad Pen Pro. I leave it in the laptop slot for charging for more than a day and it gives me only a few minutes of usage. As per the user guide, it should be 80% charge in 15 seconds and 100% after 5 minutes. But it runs out of charge very soon. It shows me the low battery level indicator as soon as I use it on the screen. First day of usage (appox 4 days ago) it gave me about 30 - 45 minutes of continuous. But after that not more than 5 minutes. Please let me know if this is an issue with the Pen or Laptop charging port. Is there any way I can troubleshoot it?Please also let me know the average usage time for the pen, if you are continuously using it.

Answer:Thinkpad yoga 460 - Thinkpad Pen Pro not charging ...

Hi
Welcome to the forums.

I do not have that kind of pen, but I think is the one that has some "bronce contacts" at the top of the pen. I had read some other post about it, just in case check that "contacts" to make sure they are touching with the charger when you put the pen into it's holder. Sometimes the contacts may move.

Question: DDR Memory Slot

Hrmm.. I got a quick question.
Ive tried putting in on my DDR Slots two 512mb cards.
I think one of my slots got burned or something like that.
I now have left only one memory card on the working slot with 1 gb.
I wanted to know which I know is a dumb question, is it possible to fix that damaged slot or something like that?

Answer:DDR Memory Slot

not usually, unless the problem is simply dirt or dust
