Thinkpad S1 Yoga operating issues

Question: Thinkpad S1 Yoga operating issues

I just purchased a ThinkPad S1 Yoga two days ago. The first day of use was flawless, however the second day it began freezing and defaulting to a blue screen. When the machine is turned off and turned back on it boots up, works for a approximately 2-3 mins and locks up again. I checked the WIFI connectivity, no issues. Can anyone help with this issue?

Preferred Solution: Thinkpad S1 Yoga operating issues

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Everyone!           Recently, I bought a Thinkpad Yoga 14 S3 and regretted my decision utterly. It has been causing a lot of problem self generated problems, whilst cosmetic defect occur on the following day of purchase. It has been really a stressful week trying to sought help from Lenovo Technocal Service hotline as I am left in the lurch again, in which I was told to go to the service centre to get it repairs as it is a software issue.           As touted by Lenovo Yoga series of notebooks, this machine is capable to transform into a tablet with a 360 degrees flip, However, on the very first flip, this  flimpsy mahince hinge wall lining on the left edge crack leaving a gap that could not be fixed eventhough i tried popping it back. I guess this is proobably alright as it does not hinder any internal issues beside the fan ventilation.            However , recently things escalated to something even worst and got me enrage. Software plays a vital role and I should have avoid this brand totally a with how unreliable this business machine is an fter the SuperFish incident and should not be insistent that this is a quality product that I should accquire. The recent upgrade of this machine to Window 10 saw the mouse curosr displayed like a slideshow to reflect how sluggish this i5 mcahine is. Come on lenovo! Answer:ThinkPad Yoga 14 Auto-Reset resulting in a loss of Operating System

Hi Lexdan,  As you mentioned you have discovered a noisy fan followed by overheating problem which could be a sign of hardware issue, so to figure this out please follow the below steps:  1- Go to the windows 10 marketplace in your desktop and search for Lenovo Setting and Lenovo companion software and download and install them2- After installation lunch the Lenovo Companion and run the check up. It will check the total machine health and if there is any hardware issue will report it.  I guess the issue may come from Fan or heatsink

Hello, I just registered here yesterday because I am having lot's of troubles with my Thinkpad Yoga (i7, hdd+ssd). Starting from the delivery which was postponed for several days (day by day) I ve been having many unexpected troubles with my first Lenovo Thinkpad..... Right after having it for 2 weeks, the keyboard stopped working. First some keys where giving constantly letters to the laptop and then they stopped working. The funny thing was that only some keys did not work anymore. A repair center replaced the keyboard due to warranty, but there the problem got only slightly better.  After the repair the keyboard backlight does not work anymore and neither the trackball. Additionally I had to install all my software again because something with the mapping table was wrong... The repair shop told me they gonna check it again which is nice of course, but on the other hand I never had so many issues with a Laptop within the first two months...  4 days ago the keys F9 to F12 stopped working again and today the Laptop was totally unresponsive and seemed to be switched off but instead it was getting very hot. I was not able to reset or switch it off in any way and the only option I had was to take some external fans and wait for the battery to die...  Afterwards it all seemed well again.... Has anybody had similiar issues and has recommendations for me how to prevent further troubles with that laptop?... I got my self a Thinkpad S1 Yoga (20CD) and I have two issues;1) The wireless lan driver fails and startup. (Dual Band AC 7260)2) The trackpad acts as a simple mouse. (ultranav driver is installed) I'm running Windows 8.1pro (x64). All drivers are updated and the BIOS is updated. The wireless lan driver starts normally when I disable USB3 support in the bios or disable the "Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 0100 (Microsoft)" in de device manager. When I disable and enable the wireless lan driver again the driver works normally. The trackpad does not support actions like scrolling. Regards, Roberto

Hello, I finally got my new Thinkpad Yoga S1, but there seem to be some issues with the NFC module. After startup, if I open the device manager it looks fine, but after a few minutes the "NFC proximity device" driver status changes to shows "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)". Under Details > Problem Code it says "0000002B", and under Details > Problem Status "The Request is not supported/C00000BB". In the System Event Log I am also getting a few "BcmNfcIc driver has failed initializing NFC device." errors at the time it fails. If I do a right-click > Disable and then right-click > Enable on the device, it works again for a few minutes, but then shows the same error again. I'm using Windows 8.1, fully updated with Windows update, and all drivers/BIOS updated using the Lenovo tool. The NFC driver is version 1.1.0.3130 from 17/12/2013. I also had an issue where the Lenovo QuickControl together with "Windows Driver Foundation - User-Mode Driver" background process took up 95% of the CPU time all the time, which I solved by deinstalling QuickControl. I'm thinking the two issues might be related, with the QuickControl trying to unsuccesfully poll the NFC device. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Jan

I found out that Windows 8.1 Update 1 has just been released. This seems to have fixed the problem. After the update I had an error about the Lenovo PM Device, saying that it had corrup registry information. Deleting and re-detecting the PM device fixed the problem, and now everything appears to be working.

Hi all, I'm hoping desperately you can help. The touchpad on my ThinkPad Yoga has always been iffy, since I got it, in the sense, that it seems to randomly turn itself off, especially if windows has applied an update. In the past I've been able to enable it again, but not this time. Today I went to use my laptop and the touchpad didn't respond. In the Lenovo message centre it said it was disabled (although I didn't disable it). I looked up how to enable it and ended up in the device manager. In the touchpad properties it said: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24) But when I looked at the other options and asked it to update drivers, it said it was already enabled and that the drivers were up to date.  So I googled more and the info seemed to indicate to uninstall the drivers, then reinstall them. So I uninstalled them, and downloaded some from the Lenovo site to reinstall. When reinstalling though, it won't work. It says the touchpad doesn't exist. Indeed now in the device manager the touchpad isn't listed, but it does say PS/2 compatible mouse there instead. This also has the same error message in the properties: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24) In the Lenovo message centre it now also says that this is disabled too.  I've redownloaded and installed the drivers fro... Read more

Hello. I have purchased a Lenovo ThinkPad couple of weeks ago and am struggling to get TouchPad working properly since then. What I want to achieve is a flawless TouchPad experience, which includes:Right button click with two fingers only, right click zone disabled;Natural vertical scrolling;Natural ?back? and ?forward? three-finger swipe (i. e. left to right ? backward). On the first boot-up my laptop updated UltraNav drivers to the latest version from Lenovo support site. It?s version 17.0.12.60 from January 14 2014. This driver is not stable at all and has various issues and drawbacks:Metro apps are crashing when scrolling (Twitter, Facebook etc); You need to click and activate the scrolling zone, hovering the cursor over it is not enough. As a result in start menu tiles are selected successively while scrolling (white border around), and you can?t check several tiles if you need to scroll; It?s impossible to disable the right-click zone; When scrolling in classic-UI apps the cursor sometimes changes to an arrow with a scrollbar. This inconsistency is annoying.Driver tuning window is all crippled, labels are not formatted properly, and some of them are not visible; It is impossible to change to natural backward and forward swipe.I then downgraded to Lenovo?s driver 17.0.9 as of October 25 2013. It performs better but still has all issues of 17.0.12.60 apart from Metro apps crashing.I decided to download and install the original driver from Synaptics web si... Read more

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga TouchPad Issues

I've done furhter researching and found out some other strange Lenovo's TouchPad driver behaviour. In any verion you can't simply change registry values to fine tune TouchPad. Every single value is overwritten by Rundll32.exe and SynTPEnh.exe each time the system starts or mouse settings opened. As a result you can't disable right button (ExButton4Action key). Version 17.0.9 does not make Metro apps crash and scrolling works without activating selection (no white border around tiles). It also disables right button for both one- and two-finger click if you turn off two-finger click.

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga WiFi issues?

I am having issues with a ThinkPad Yoga model 20C0. It is very selective on what WiFi network it would connect to. Sometimes it goes on Limited Connectivity and does not conenct to anything until you disable and enable Wi-Fi.  In some cases it will connect to a WiFi network and other people would be knock out of the network, in other cases it will connect and after a few minutes the connection will drop and will not reconnect after a reboot. According to an article that reviews the ThinkPad Yoga, it is a Windows 8 (or 8.1) issue that happens also on other machines. Link to article: http://www.mobiletechreview.com/notebooks/Lenovo-ThinkPad-Yoga.htm

I uninstalled the windows 8.1 that came with my Thinkpad Yoga to installe windows 7 64-bit because there was no support for Power Manager ( a tool that allows you to charge your battery only upto a certain percentage (eg 40%) which helps reduce battery aging when the notebook is mostly operated on AC power).Doing that required me to fully clean the Hard-disk during the installation process.I installed almost all of the drivers available on  http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...for thinkpad yoga and windows 7 64 bit.Happily, this provided me the Power manager, and I can use it just as I wanted. However, all these has brought in additional issues which are listed below:  1. The touch pad right click doesn't work. Only two finger tap works as right click.2. The touch pad gestures for zoom and scroll doesn't work at all.3. The screen auto-rotate doesn't work.4. The touch screen gesture for zoom doesn't work. I did install the ultra-nav and screen-rotate drivers, but I get error messages regarding synaptics ... not working and also sensor driver not working during the windows startup. Any help please? Thank you.

Answer:Issues with Thinkpad yoga on Windows 7 64-bit

Follow up: After going through windows update and installing windows 7 service pack 1, some of the issues have been resolved. The screen auto rotates based on device orientation. The two finger scroll and zoom works on the touchpad. The physical right click still doesn't work. (The two finger tap for right-click is working). One important feature that I still find mssing is that the two finger pinch to zoom doesn't work on the Touchscreen (it works in Touchpad though). So, when I am browsing websites on Tablet mode, there is no way to zoom in! Thanks.

Hi there, I just bought a brandnew Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga (i7 with Digitizer) with the integrated "Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260" Wifi Module. It communicates with a FritzBox 7390 router. I ran the "Lenovo System Update 5" and installed all the drivers. No mather what I did, I had wifi issues. 1-5 Mbps max (~50 Mbps possible).. every 5 Minutes the connection to the router was lost... Common problems a lot of users are experiencing. After that I downloaded the driver from the Lenovo Support site. It had a newer signature... but still the same problems.  I found out, that the new driver, that I found at the Intel Support Page, solves my issues. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=24460  So for anyone who has the same annyoing issues, remove your driver, and install the one from Intel. And for the Lenovo Support.Could you Update the driver, in your "System Updater" Programm and on the Webpage?Atleast for me, the outdated driver is producing a lot of problems.  Just wanted to shareDan

Hello. I am having serious problems with my Thinkpad Yoga(20CD0038GE) Touchpad. I'm on the newest driver (18.0.7.40) and on Windows 8.1 Update 1. Very often after starting up the laptop the touchpad doesn't recognize any movement so the cursor stays still. However I can still scroll with two fingers. If I start Synmood.exe I can see that it actually does recognize touch input but the cursor does not move. Also the touchpad is not listed in the touchpad settings then. A restart seems to solve this but doing this every time is very time consuming and distracting. Also very often the two finger right click option disables itself without any reason. I couldn't reproduce this as it always happens at a random time. I always have to go back to the Touchpad settings and recheck the two finger right click option. Scrolling is very bugged and inconsistent. In Firefox it is very laggy and slow whereas in Internet Explorer it's very fluid. In Steam it doesn't work at all. Sometimes the Synaptics drivers won't load at all and I have to manually start them to get access to all the gestures. Even then it may not work and I have to restart the whole laptop. I already reinstalled the drivers two times to see if it gets better but it doesn't change. Downgrading to an older driver brings up different problems which are even worse. All this is very annoying distracting and hinders me from doing my work. I want to know if there other people with similar issues a... Read more

Just received my Thinkpad YOGA and had a question regarding the case.  The front area of the frame where you rest your palms while typing does not seem solid.  Everytime I put my hands of the laptop it makes a creaking sound because the case is shifting slightly.  Is this a common problem with this PC or this a malfunction that I should send in for repair?

I recently bought a Thinkpad Yoga and found a few issues primarily in the trackpad. The trackpad appears to have a matte finish which greatly increases the friction between my finger and the trackpad itself. This supposed glass trackpad is not smooth and causes jumps and waves when making diagonal lines specifically. Can someone please try making a slow 45 degree line in paint or something and see how straight it comes out? I want to know if i'm the only person here or if it's a common issue.

So it doesn't turn off completely  What might help: beeing able to get back to the former driver and firmwar, but I do not seem to be able to download them :-/ Any hints appeciated. Best regards!Markus PS: I am not a native English speaker - Hope, you're getting my points

I have over 30 Yoga 12 that I administer. I have now had 2 that have keyboard issues where certain / most keys stop working. The keys either don't work at all or give incorrect input. Such as pressing shift makes tab key action occurr or pressing return makes x come up. It seems the only fix is replacing keyboard. Is there a known problem with these machines and their keyboards?

I just purchased two 2nd gen yoga thinkpads. I am trying to play a movie through the updated netflix app and the video just flickers .  Not sure if this is a Yoga issue or Netflix problem.  I have tried reloading the app and rebooting.  I thought it may be a Yoga issue if both of my Yogas are having the same exact issue. Video plays fine through any other app or browser.  Thanks for your help.

Hi I purchased a Thinkpad Yoga for use as my main work PC nd took out extended cover. i was initially pleased with my purchase but found the i7/8GB/1T HDD was slow and unresponsive which i suspect is the HDD. After a while the laptop failed to go into hibernate and when i went to get it from my laptop case it was extremely hot, the lenovo logo affixed to the wristwrest had fell off and so had a rubber foot. The laptop continued to get very warm in use and Lenovo send an engineer to replace the cooling fan. Lenovo were unable to replace the rubber feet or the logo because these dont have a SKU which is ridiculous. This means the laptop is not stable on a desk and the ground clearance is inconsistent and may be causing further overheatingI went to continue an important work project today and have been greeted with HDD 0 not found. It would appear the main hard disk has failed causing me to lose some data..and yes I know a backup is my responsibilityHaving purchased the mot expensive Yoga at the time I am extremely disappointed with the reliability of what I thought was a road warriors laptop.I am wondering if my early adoption of the Yoga was a mistake or whether they are all unreliable and look forward to any replies thanks

Hi,I have a 2nd generation Thinkpad Yoga 12.5 inch notebook. I have had this computer for about 18 months and the screen is completely ruined in many places. I have the matte screen and it appears that the pen has been scratching the soft matte finnish at many places. There are also big smudges from the keyboard that does not go away when I try to clean the screen. I am happy with this laptop overall, but I think it is terrible design to fail to make sure that the screen and keyboard is not touching when the lid is closed! Is it possible to fix these screen issues? Looking at the corner of the the screen, it looks like there is a screenprotector or similar on the device. Is this how Lenovo makes their matte screens? Just pasting a screen protector on top of a glossy screen? If so, would it be possible for me to remove it without damaging the actual screen and get rid of the scratches and smudges? Cheers Cheers

Hi everyone, I received my ThinkPad Yoga yesterday. Upon booting it up, everything seemed to be working fine. I set it up and everything without a hitch. Then I got to the OS (Win 8.1). The keyboard just didn't respond at all. So I got fed up with trying to figure it out (a USB keyboard didn't work either), so I installed the Windows 10 Technical Preview since I would be installing it eventually anyway. Same issue, worked at boot and at login screen, stopped working after that. This time it made a noise though. The Yoga makes a very strange "you can't do that" type of noise every time I push a key. I then tried Ubuntu, on which the keyboard works find, but upon installing Windows 10 again I have the same issue.I'm totally confused at this point. I've obviously tried every driver I could possibly find for the device. I've been looking everywhere and I can't find anyone with a similar issue. I have the model with the Wacom stylus / digitizer, and it's the Signature Edition, if that matters. Any help is appreciated. P.S. Sorry for the wall of text ;p

Answer:Thinkpad yoga 14 little issues after windows 10

Hi danielmb007 It took me some time to stabilize Windows 10 on the TPY 14 (20DM008UUS). I went into a "driver updating rampage" for it and I have it stabilized right now. This are my tips to update the drivers on my Thinkpad Yoga, but you can decide how deep you want to go for driver updating:1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers. This will be the Lenovo supported drivers, but if you want to look for other update drivers directly from the manufacturer (AS IS) you can try:5) Depending on the machine chipset/processor, you can try Intel Driver Update Utility, or AMD Update Utility.6) I also like to use DriverEasy, which offers a a decent driver update recognition for free, but also tries to sell you the full version. Just be warned that the drivers that are not from the Lenovo support site are "AS IS" and under your own risk, I install them since I'm confortable installing, and un-installing Windows drivers, remember that a wrong driver may turn up Windows un-usable. Regards

Hello, Just wondering of anyone on the forum or someone from Lenovo can help. I am not technologically savy and mostly just a user of Microsoft software. My wireless connection on my new Thinkpad Yoga is slow and cannot stream media such as I Player or I Player radio without stopping. My four years old sony vaio laptop has no problem doing these things. I've read on the forum that deleting the Lenovo EMC Storage Connector helps. I have done this but the connection is still poor. I then phoned Lenovo technical support, they asked me to re-download the wireless driver and hot key driver and then try the wireless connection on a different network to see if it is still slow and if it is contact them again. I will do this soon to test it. Does anyone have any other ideas what could be the problem. I really like the Thinkpad Yoga and it would be ashame to take it back if this can't be fixed. Interestingly the technical support person did not know or acknowledge the problem with the Lenovo EMC Storage Connector. Hope someone can help. Many thanks.

Answer:Wifi issues with Thinkpad Yoga

Hello, Sorry to bump this up but I'm still hoping there might be some advice out there. I've tested the yoga thinkpad on two other wifi fibre optic broadband networks and it worked fine. On my own EE normal broadband it still struggles and can't play a 30 min I player programme without stopping every three minutes. What I don't understand is that my sony vaio laptop works fine on the same network. The other weird thing is when I do a speedtest on speednet.com, as it's downloading, the test file it shows speed of about 15 MBS (not bad) but it can't quite finish downloading the file, just hover there. No idea why, could this indicate a problem? I will contact EE technical support to see if there is anything their end. Cheers,James

Will my Thinkpad X-1 Yoga allow me to  use a headset that incorporates a USB port?  Best Buy had no single plug, 4-pole headsets, but sold me a Logitech h390 USB headset saying that it should work.  Waiting to open package until I can verify that this laptop allow the USB connection.  Can anyone provide the answer?   [Am frustrated........my 'older' desktop has dual plugs for a headset]

Good day and welcome to the community.I can't comment on the USB headset question, but if you've got an older, dual-plug headset that you'd like to use, then you might explore getting a combo-jack splitter as described in this KB article: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Displays-Options-and-Accessories/Microphone-Headset-Jack-splitter-neede...

My Thinkpad Yoga 14 is now basically a standalone CPU, and not a laptop/tablet since my Windows 10 upgrade.  The speakers did not work -- that was easy to fix.  The keyboard on the laptop will not work, and the tablet will not rotate.  I have tried so many suggestions to fix it, but it is now rendered just a cpu with external keyboard, mouse and monitor.  This is very disappointing.  Any ideas on how to fix the keyboard and tablet rotation features?

I just purchased a X1 Yoga 2nd Gen with a high-end configuration.  In theory, this is my ideal computer for home (which includes a lot of computer modeling work in evenings and weekends).

But I just returned it because I was experiencing a cascade of mostly mouse-related issues.  At times, these issues all affected the TrackPoint, TouchPad an X1 external travel mouse, so they were not device-specific.

I first noticed the mouse would freeze, and display a tiny scroll-bar pointer.  When I'd try to move the mouse, the scroll bar gliff would shift from vertical to horizontal, etc... but the mouse would not move and could not be used.  I would have to force a reboot and repeat until the problem went away.  I seemed to minimize this problem by changing a mouse setting in Devices / Mouse Properties / Thinkpad.  Under Enable TrackPoint, I changed the Middle Button Action to "Use as middle click".  This seemed to improve things...

But then the mouse started rapidly drifting across the screen, and this drifting process would go on and on until I rebooted (often several times).  When the mouse was drifting -- always towards the upper-right -- it was essentially impossible to use the computer.

I also found that the mouse buttons would quit working frequently.  This was most common when I had other processes running.  But the CPU (and memory) was far from maxed out -- I had it at 30-40%.  This pro... Read more

I've recently updated my Thinkpad Yoga S1 to Windows 10, and it was giving me a lot of issues. I've since switched back to Windows 8.1 and I'm appalled to see that these issues now carried over back into Windows 8.1. I had the common problem of the trackpad not working when I woke my laptop up from sleep mode, and I also had my trackpoint failing to even register. Additionally, when the trackpad did work, it would be laggy/choppy and basically unbearable to use. Any thoughts on a solution to this problem? I've updated the synaptic drivers more times than I can count...

... and some more issues with the Pro Dock. I have a Dell U3014 connected via Display Port. Resolution works fine, however... : 1) Dell Display Manager stopped working and reported "attach compatible LCD to your PC." This software is quite important to me and since DP is supposed to be "native" I can't find a reason why it shouldn't work. 2) I experience stuttering while dragging windows. I can confirm that Dell Display Manager is not good with my config also - OneLink (basic) connected to Dell U2412M via DVI.  Can't tell the difference compared to direct connection to laptop though (don't have miniHDMI adapter). @SFsix, sorry about this offtopic question, but do you have any problems with random disconnection/connection of OneLink Pro from TPY, more specifically for Ethernet and USB interfaces. More details here: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Options-Accessories/Re-OneLink-network-port-flapping/td-p/1358947 it's a pretty long thread already but in brief all users of OneLink basic non-Pro (myself included) report this problem for constant disconnect and re-connect of OneLink interface. So we were wondering if OneLink Pro users experience this problem... Will appreciate your feedback.

So I'm really at a loss with this issue.  I've done so much troubleshooting to no avail.  Removed soundcard and bluetooth and reinstalled.  Installed new drivers.  Deleting and repairing devices. Changing the WiFi to "Prefer 5.2GHz band".  Other troubleshooting based on discussions on other forums... The Problem. Brand new Thinkpad P71.  I have two of the same external speakers I've used with my iPhone via Bluetooth to stream audio and never had a problem.  The speakers are the Oontz 3XL. When I connect with my P71, it can go 24 hours or two minutes, but it will just suddenly stop playing audio.  The blue light on the speaker will turn off.  To get it to work again, I'll have to close the audio app and reconnect the Bluetooh.  Then it will run for anywhere from one minute to 24 hours and disconnect again. I also just bought a brand new Thinkpad X1 Yoga (2nd gen).  Exact same problem.  Did all the same troubleshooting. I mostly stream Sirius XM from a browser (and have tried different browsers as well).  I also play audio from iTunes.  The weird thing with iTunes is that when this happens, the Play/Pause button in the software will also stop working, unless I close the app and restart. It's definitely a Lenovo problem, since I am encountering the same problem on both systems.  I don't know if this could be related to BitDefender and/or Malware Bytes (both are inst... I have two problems i amd struggling to get support from Lenovo on..  1. When i connect my P40 Yoga to a 2nd Display and set my desktop to extended mode. When ever i right-click the 'context' menu that appears is not in the same location as where the stylus is. It appears to be offset based on the amount of total desktop space (becuase its extended) rather than just the actualy lenovo laptop screen. (which is the only screen thats compatible with the stylus). Any suggestions? 2. This one has only started happening recently. The Wacom service: Tablet Service for ISD Driver is constantly using 75% of my CPU and generally makes the device unusable. If i disable the service i am no longer able to use my stylus.. (which is the whole point for buying this laptop at $2000!). It continues to use 75% of my CPU no matter what i do (even when not using the stylus). It appears to use more and more memory over time as well.. Who should be fixing this Lenovo or Wacom?  ?

I recently purchased a Yoga 11e 20d9 model and so far I'm loving it.  However, I wanted to upgrade the memory from 4gb to 8gb.  I purchased Crucial 8GB Single DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) as all the reviews I read said this was okay to use, however, everytime I install the memory and I try to charge the laptop at the same time it crashes.  I can run windows 10 perfectly without issue up until I try to charge it.  I can charge ther laptop when the laptop is off but for the life of me I can't get it to coexist.  I installed the original ram and everything works perfectly.   Even if I'm in bios, as soon as I plug in the charger the laptop will crash.  It literally has rips on the screen and everything fades out.  As soon as I unplug it, the laptop works flawlessly.   I returned the memory and got a replacement and it does the same exact thing.  I updated both the BIOS and battery firmware.  I am out of ideas.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi - I've read various posts about problems with Headsets but not yet found a solution!  I have purchased a new headset together with splitter to use the single 3.5mm jack port for both audio and recording.  I can get the audio to work and the headset shows in my "Playback" however my laptop will ONLY use the built in mic and will not detect the headset in "Recording".  Obviously this is not good for VOIP calls and I need to get the mic on my headset working by tomorrow morning!  I've done all the basics - resinstalled sound card, checked all devices are showing and disabled devices not in use.  I've also checked the microphone privacy settings and in Realtek Audio I can't see a headset in the microphone options there!  Can anyone help at all?  Thanks so much

I've been trying to adjust to the ELAN touchpad that is shipping with the new BestBuy TPY 14 Yoga. I've had this laptop for 5 days now and I am really fustrated with the ELAN touchpad / drivers and how two finger scrolling works.  I've owned 6 thinkpads over the years and none have ever used an ELAN touchpad. I don't know if there is such a thing but the touchpad uses ELAN drivers not synaptic. Windows 10 Home, using standard Lenovo drivers across the board. Uninstalled and reinstalled lateest ELAN drivers several times. EDGE and IE pages are scrolling slow sometimes, very fast sometimes, and fail to scroll at other times. Depends on the site I visit and seems consistent on those sites. Rarely is the two finger scroll perfect. Synaptic drivers always work perfectly on my old thinkpads with those touchpads.MS Main and Outlook scrolling the list of emails will not scroll. The scroll pointer icon appears but no movement. I have to finger scroll.I have adjusted the touchpad speed and mouse speed. I've checked and unchecked Enhanced Pointer options. The only think that these settings did was to slow down the perfect pages making these changes worse. Fast is fast ALL THE TIME. I absolutly love this laptop but this ELAN touchpad turns it into a potential boat anchor and renders it usless if you have ever gotten use to using a good one. I have a couple more days before returning. Its in the same orientation mode as desktop mode. When i put it in tent mode, the screen is upside down,  Can someone please help me out with this problem? Thanks!

Answer:Thinkpad S1 Yoga screen rotation issues after windows 10 upgrade

Hi sumitgoyal3832
Welcome to the forums. Can you please post the full model number of you Thinkpad S1 Yoga?

I have a different Yoga Machine, but when I upgraded to Windows 10 it took me some work updating the drivers to stabilize it. Maybe you can try to updating the driver.

I try that in this order:
1) Windows Update - Check for any update there
2) Use Lenovo System Update to see if it find any BIOS or Driver update
3) Install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows Store.
4) Sometimes some newer drivers does not show on System Update or on Lenovo Companion. Check also the "Lenovo Support Site" with you full model number and check for any driver... you can sort driver by date.

But maybe your computer is a older one and does not have Windows 10 drivers on the Lenovo Site.
In that case I also use "DriverEasy" but that is un-support from Lenovo and AS IS under your own risk. But in my case that tool helped me out a lot to find newer drivers on my machine.
I hope this tips can you some help.

I am currently counting the 4th 5th attempt to downgrade my Yoga 14 from Windows 8.1 to Windows 7 professional using a "Windows 7 recovery disc set" (4x dvd) acquired from lenovo.Except from creating a recovery media for win 8.1... I have carefully followed the instructions provided by lenovo.During the first phase that consist of swapping discs as instructed by Lenovo R&R the installer reports that a fairly substantial amounts of files are not found. However the installation continues without any regard for these apparent errors. The system reboots several times and files are extracted and such and matters seem to progress with relative ease. Then the Windows setup starts cycling through:OK! - C:\SWWORK\BCD0B.CMDOK! - C:\DRIVERS\DPINST.CMDC:\SWWORK\DOWORK.CMDAnd there it seems to stop with Preload System Setup displaying "Please wait, Preload Customizations in progress......" in the foreground. The reason for this halt in the operation seems to be windows security window in the background demanding response on whether to install a unverified driver of unknown origin. So if one accepts the installation of this mysterious (NVIDIA?) driver the installation will proceed and one will have additional request to install various intel drivers.During my first attempt to downgrade I manually accepted all the drivers install requests in order to make the installation continue. But at a certain point I get the infamous BSOD stating some serious issues with NDIS.SYS.(I managed to ta... Read more

I have a user with a ThinkPad Yoga S1 and a OneLink dock (NOT the pro version).  Periodically when she plugs it into her PC the network connectivity doesn't connect.  generally this requires reseating and restarting the computer for it to come up.  it's on the most recent firmware, though there is a bios update for the yoga.  I have 4 of these configurations all used by C-level managers at our company.  One other has reported similar issues in the past but they seem to have subsided as of late.  Are there any known issues related to this, or anyone else experiencing similar?

Hello,  I recently purchased a Thinkpad Yoga 12 (MP1091PE). I love this laptop since it is a major upgrade from my previous one. I finally got an opportunity to really use the laptop for all its features the last couple days, after completing all the updates for windows 10 pro and lenovo drivers and BIOs.  1) OneNote IssueWhen I would be using Onenote 2013 to take notes with the pen and drag the document, I would have no issues. Howver, when I put the computer to sleep and wake it up again, the touch features (like zoome and draging) do not work. This is the same for the scrolling gesture with the trackpad. I would have to close one note and re open it to make it work again.  I have been looking through the forums about this issue, and have not been able to find a fix. Does anyone else have this problem? 2) Notification/Taskbar IssueWhen I would touch the screen to activate the touch screen keyboard to type, I would have not issues. After repeating the same task 5-6 times, the notification section would not respond, the icon for the keyborard would disappear. I would then simply rotate the screen to portrait and back to landscape and that would fix the problem.  I was wondering if there was something I could do to prevent this from happening at all. It is kind of annoying to have to flip the screen to tablet mode, only to rotate the screen to make it work.  3) Touchscreen keyboard issuesThis problem extends a bit mor... Read more

Hi

From what I see you have a Thinkpad Yoga 12 model 20DL. I don't have that model and maybe this is not direcctly focused to your issues, but when I updated to Windows 10 it take me some time to stabilize it.

I can recommend you to check on the drivers of the touchscreen and digiter.

This is your models support site, you can organize the drivers by OS and date so you can be sure to apply the latest:

I recently purchased a ThinkPad Yoga with a OneLink Dock Pro. I am having one issue. When I plug the laptop into the one link I get a constant device disconnect sound over and over until I reboot. This happens most frequently when the device goes into sleep mode NOT attached to the dock and I then attach the device to the dock and wake the device up. It happens in other scenarios too but this scenario causes it almost 100% of the time. It is extremely annoying.  In addition, this scenario also causes my HDMI sound (through my Asus monitor) to not work and switching play devices in Windows 8.1 doesn't work until I reboot. Once I reboot, the annoying sound goes away and my sound devices all work. There seems to be a few one-off scenarios that cause this to happen as well but none I can pinpoint just yet. Has anyone else encountered this and is there a fix?

Answer:Issues with ThinkPad Yoga and OneLink Dock Pro - device constantly "disconnects"

Unfortunately, you are not alone.  The combination TPY with OneLink and OneLink Pro is not (yet?) a stable marriage. See, for example, this very long discussion thread (22 pages, >210 posts, 3 months, and counting...):http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Options-Accessories/Re-OneLink-network-port-flapping/td-p/1358947 Lenovo has still (after 3 months!!) not provided a fix for this issue. In the above thread some workarounds have been posted, which seem to work for some. See Page 15 and page 22, for example. Lenovo is really dropping the ball on this one.

Would really appreciate some help here. I have a Lenovo S1 Yoga - i7-4500U @ 1.80GHz, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, Windows 10 Home I've had an issue from Day 1 with this laptop - the trackpad does not click properly, and the multitouch goes haywire. The guy at the Microsoft Store sort of shrugged his shoulders, and I always use an external mouse, so I just went with it anyways. Recently, my monitor stopped turning on. The laptop still works - I'm using it right now, connected to an external display. I've tried unplugging+turn off+hold power button for 20 seconds, tried doing the Fn/Alt-F5/F6/F9/etc toggling, and rebooting it several times, all to no avail. At the same time, the Fn key seems to have started mapping to the Left-Alt key. So when I click Alt-F4, instead of closing my window, it toggles the microphone mute. My assumption is that there are (multiple) underlying hardware issues, but wanted to just make sure that there's no obvious software fix that would save me from buying a new laptop. Help will be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Guys, Looking to consolidate the list of issues I have with my TP since updating to Win10 Fall Creators Update (1709) update. And I am looking for help in resolving the outstanding issues. I have gone through the common resolution methods on this official Lenovo site as well as from this collection of tips. Outstanding issues below. 1. Keyboard AUTO backlight setting is not working, light doesn't come on when its dark on its own.2. Auto screen brightness control is not working3. Screen rotation button is still greyed out in the sidebar as well as settings4. OLED colour profile settings had stopped working and disappeared. (But this fix worked)5. Intel SGX drivers were busted (finally updated on their own via Win10) Now for 1, 2 and 3, I think this is an integrated sensors issue and I have tried uninstalling the Intel Sensor Solution device drivers from Device Manager and then updated the drives through Lenovo Companion. Nothing changed.Windows Update later also installed an update called Intel Integrated Sensor Solution but these issues have not gone away. On a positive note, this Win10 update and the related updates to Synaptics touchpad drivers resolved the issue of the cooling fan being constantly being on (this forum attributed the issue to bad synaptics drivers). Anyone else facing the same issue related to sensors on this machine? As of 5 minutes ago, there were no new updates on LenovoCompanion or on Win10. Thanks

Hi,

When I connect Thinkpad Yoga (model 20CD00B1US) to the onelink dock, the stylus stops working.

In order to enable the stylus and Wacom driver following 2 options/ workarounds:
1)  Manually stop and restart the Wacom ISD Service
2) or reboot the machine while the Onelink dock is attached.

I'm using the latest 7.2.0-4 Wacom driver version, all latest lenovo software installed installed on the machine.

Both above mentioned workarounds are ugly, does anybody have a better suggestion to fix this issue?

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

I am hhaving difficulty finding an acceptable scaling mix between resolution, system scaling, and edge scaling. At 1080p, 125%, 125%, os navigation is mostly fine, but edge text is way too large. At 1080p, 125%, 100%, edge text is way too small. At all combinations text is inflated (but crisp) in certain elements while fuzzy in others. What scaling combinations work best for you? I am considering returning this to Best Buy and upgrading to a Pro 4 / Book, or even a Mac. The scaling is ruining an otherwise great experience.

Hi, I am new to this site and wondering if I can get some advice. Hi chiakri.

I have a TPY 14 (20DM008UUS) and I'm happy with this model. I didn't not compare it to the TPY 12, but mine is working fine and have no issues. It didn't came with a pen, but it supports "Active pen", so I bought a Thinkpad Pen Pro and it worked fine.

I prefer to stick with the 14" screen but that is more about personal prefence. Maybe if you like to use it very much on tablet mode with a pen, possible the 12" will be more confortable to hold as a book.. but I'm just guessing.

Hey guys, I'm a PreMed student who's life revolves around his laptop. I'm always on social media, watching some show, listening to music, doing an essay, taking notes, updating some website, or emailing some person on campus. Of course, my old laptop broke. It was a Dell Inspiron. Now, I have a campus job and have been saving money(so money is not factor necessarily). After researching my options, I've narrowed my choices down to the three previously listed laptops. I just want to know which do you guys suggest and why?

Answer:Surface Book vs Lenovo Yoga 900 vs ThinkPad X1 Yoga

By looking at your requirement, you prefer on-the-go PC that lets you do all that on a decent budget, SP4 is better than SB(if you want lightweight device and decent battery life), Lenovo's are pretty good too. X1 w/o OLED seems to be a better buy in terms of ultraportability and battery life. You could wait for others to chime in.

I have two staff members with different Yoga models, but with the same pen issue. Say, for instance, OneNote is open. The pen doesn't draw or write, but it can select and still be recognized. When I try using an old stylus from an HP Elitebook, it works TOTALLY fine - even the button on the pen functions properly. This suddenly started after months of the Lenovo pens working fine. I thought maybe it was a driver issue, but it can't be as the HP pen works.... I'm thinking it's the pen itself just getting worn down? It looks okay though but may be just a little loose... The ThinkPad X1 Yoga is first modern ThinkPad that I've ever owned.  I?ve been using Lenovo?s Ideapad lineup for a very long time, and while I?ve used ThinkPads in the past, the X1 Yoga will be my first personal ThinkPad that I own.  So how does it stack up to the Yoga 910?  Let?s find out! I have the i7 UHD model of the Yoga 910 and the i5 FHD model of the ThinkPad X1 Yoga.  I tried out the latest Yoga 920, but I haven?t tried the latest X1 Yoga yet? hopefully, I will!

Even though both laptops carry ?yoga? in their name, the hardware behind them is vastly different.  The ThinkPad X1 Yoga has the classic ThinkPad black design, which is made of a carbon-fiber hybrid for the top cover and a magnesium-PPS hybrid for the bottom cover.  The Yoga 910 has a similar design from the Lenovo?s Yoga lineup, with an aluminum build throughout.

The ThinkPad only comes in two colors: classic black and silver; whereas the Yoga has a whole suite of colors to choose from, such as silver, copper, bronze, and even a few exclusive designs, such as the Vibe designs for the Yoga 920 and the Star Wars themed designs for the Yoga 910.

Hey all. The thinkpad yoga is going to be rolling out by the end of next week. There are all a lot of ppl waiting for the yoga 2 pro to get restocked. Is it a good time to maybe reconsider getting the thinkpad yoga instead? Pros and cons?

Answer:ideapad yoga 2 pro or thinkpad yoga

I am looking at the Thinkpad Yoga as an alternative to the Yoga 2 Pro as well. Looks like there are quite a few pros and cons to each.

Just curious, why is the new Thinkpad X1 Yoga I7, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, FHD about $1,000 more than the similarly equipped commercial Lenovo 910?

Is it the ThinkPad brand name? The eraser nubbin? The 2 combined?

Just curious.

I've got a friend who needs a new laptop. She likes the touch/fold aspect of my 1st gen Thinkpad X1 Yoga. Do you all think she would be happy with the commercial Yoga 910?

Any real reason to get the new plain FHD ThinkPad X1 Yoga instead of the similarly equipped commercial Yoga available at Best Buy besides spending an extra $1000 for the ThinkPad brand name?

I've owned 6 various ThinkPads since 2011 FWIW. I get it, they're cream of the crop. But I kinda got sticker shock when I just priced out a plain FHD (and we need nothing more) X1 Yoga. About  $2,800, wow!

Best to everyone...

Answer:Why is the ThinkPad X1 Yoga $1,000 more than a similar Yoga 910?

@Jelks, The biggest difference I see between the X1 Yoga (2nd) and the Yoga 910 is active pen support which seems to be missing from the 910. You could use a capacitive stylus, but expect fingertip resolution, not pinpoint, and no pressure-sensitivity. Fewer USB ports: no HDMI or MicroSD; no Thunderbolt. No TPM module, if you need to store encrypted creditials, e.g., for BitLocker. Not sure about battery life; they claim up to 9 hours of local video for the 910 vs. up to 15 of MobileMark for the X1. Not an apple-to-apple comparison. You're not going to get the (soon to be patched, at least for now) security hole that is Intel's vPro management tech. You may not get Windows 10 Pro, possibly just Home (but you could always give Microsoft the money to upgrade if you need BitLocker or Remote Access). You're not going to get all the "mil-spec" design and testing etc, but if it's a personal machine, you're probably going to avoid abusing it. As you suggest, the "wave" keyboard -- including the trackpoint "eraser nubbin" -- is definitely going to be more expensive on the ThinkPad than the plain Yoga keyboard. I used two generations of ThinkPads (T61p and W520), but about 3 years ago I switched to a Dell XPS 13. A year or so ago, I ordered a X1 Yoga 1st gen for my wife and she likes it very much, so I am pretty familiar with the design and capabilities. TLDR: I think most people would be happy with the 910 vs. X1 unless they want the active pen. Als... Good morning. I have some questions about Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga and Yoga pro 2. Actually I want to buy one of them, but still confuse. I have read from the forum that in Yoga 2 Pro have some problems in wireless. Did the Lenovo solved this problem or still it is the same? My second question about ThinkPad yoga 12.5. is it possible to use Lenovo motion technology at this Ultrabook? Or this technology only available in ideapad-s ?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga and Yoga 2 pro

I have recently bought a Thinkpad Yoga 460 with Thinkpad Pen Pro. I leave it in the laptop slot for charging for more than a day and it gives me only a few minutes of usage. As per the user guide, it should be 80% charge in 15 seconds and 100% after 5 minutes. But it runs out of charge very soon. It shows me the low battery level indicator as soon as I use it on the screen. First day of usage (appox 4 days ago) it gave me about 30 - 45 minutes of continuous. But after that not more than 5 minutes. Please let me know if this is an issue with the Pen or Laptop charging port. Is there any way I can troubleshoot it?Please also let me know the average usage time for the pen, if you are continuously using it.

Answer:Thinkpad yoga 460 - Thinkpad Pen Pro not charging ...

Hi
Welcome to the forums.

I do not have that kind of pen, but I think is the one that has some "bronce contacts" at the top of the pen. I had read some other post about it, just in case check that "contacts" to make sure they are touching with the charger when you put the pen into it's holder. Sometimes the contacts may move.

Hello Folks,After having received a new Yoga 3 14 yesterday I noticed that there were a lot of screen ghosting issues, especially when using high contrast apps or leaving apps on the screen. Even when the system is booting the afterimages are there and persistent, and continue to build on top of each other. I have already rolled back and updated the graphics card, updated the BIOs, installed the firmware update to fix ghost touches etc. but the afterimages of chrome and the taskbar and explorer windows remain, only leaving the computer off for several hours solves but I don't believe that to be a pragmatic solution. If anyone else has had this issue or has fixed it please comment!

Apologies if this is reprising and earlier question on this topic. I have recently acquired an old-ish second-hand ThinkPad X230 [2325SWK build with a G2ET91WW (2.51) BIOS], accompanied by a ThinkPad UltraBase Series 3 docking station [P/N 0B67692] which has an empty 2½" bay.I need advice on the following issues:1    The X230 currently has an SSD installed [Samsung 128GB MZ7TD128HAFV-000L1] which will not be large enough for the programs and program data that I have planned to install.  I would like to upgrade to a 1 1TB SSD, and I propose to clone the contents of the existing 128 GB drive to a 1 TB Samsung 850 Evo [MZ-75E1T0B].  Are there any SATA or other firmware issues that I should be aware of before acquiring the 1 TB drive, arranging for its cloning and for the replacement of the current 128 GB drive?2    I would like to populate the empty 2½" bay on the UltraBase Series 3 docking station with an HDD, and the model I have in mind is a 2 TB Seagate BarraCuda Hard Drive [ST2000LM015].  Again, I'd like to know if there are any hardware, firmware or other issues before acquisition and installation.I'd be grateful for any help on either of these two issues in an Australian context.

when i turn on my older ibm thinkpad i have a picture symbol of a "1" a small picture of a cylinder and a picture of a lock beside it; next to it a flashing cursor. i haven't used this notebook in quite awhile, but it worked fine the last time that i did...now this?

Answer:cannot go to operating system on ibm thinkpad

This might be a software "lock" to keep un authorized persons from using your computer.

I suggest going to IBM's website, look up the model number of the Thinkpad, and see if there is a FAQ list that will help.

Hey there lenovo community I just had my yoga shut down mid use. When I go to turn it back on the power light turns on and the battery lights is white, but nothing displays on the screen and the fan doesn't turn on. It didn't overheat I felt it right away to see. I wasn't doing anything ridiculous with it I was just doing java coding on eclipse. Nothing major either just GUIs. Any chance anybody has any clue as to what the problem is.

I bought a  ThinkPad T61 6465CTO,but it is installed with SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop version 10 Operating System. It Is difficult for me to use this  operating system.I want to know whether this laptop is suit for installing Win xp or VISTA operating system, and how to remove linux then install WIN XP/VISTA?

Answer:Operating System of ThinkPad T61 6465CTO

Its simple.  Get an XP install CD (or vista)  pop it in the drive, restart and boot from CD.  It will bring you through the steps, it will reformat your hard drive  completely with no remains of Linux.  If your wondering, most newer computers (all T61) are capable of running Linux.  Most computers in general that are P2, 400MHz or better can run XP.  If you do choose Vista, make sure you have a minimum of 1GB RAM, but 2 is recommended (3 is even better)

I have a Lenovo Yoga 13 with an Intel i5-3337U. I noticed that it seems to be getting a lot hotter recently (touch wise), and so I installed coretemp on the ultrabook to find out what the idle temperature is. It seems to average out 47C idle. I was wondering if this is the average idle temp for this model process/laptop. If anyone could give me some feedback, also report their temperature as well, that would be superb!

Chaps, I had this fully running machine till last night (probably due to a corrupt external hard drive). 1. I was getting "netsh.exe failed to intialized" every few minutes but after re-copying "framedyn.dll" from windows32/wben to windows32, the number of prompts are less but still get them during shutting down. 2. With netsh.exe error, Symantec antivirus and firewall stopped working, Now I can't remove them from add/remove programs due to some "fatal error". 3. "regedit is disabled by administrator" even though I am logged in as administrator 4. I don't mind reloading entire windows to factory installations, but when I use "access ibm" on boot up it says "missing operating system". but otherwise I am able to log on fine (although with some errors as above). 5. Since there is no recovery CD with this version, I am entirely dependent on the inbuilt recovery procedures which are not working. 6. I can't re-run symantec from the IBMTools/Apps/SCS, the same "fatal error". Would appreciate anyone's help on this. If someone can suggest me link on lenovo web for those recovery procedures, I'd be glad. To avoid any troubles I simply want to restore it to factory settings. Thanks in advance to you chaps.

I need help comparing the Yoga 2 Pro and Yoga 13, but I don't mean to compare them by their specs.  Yes, I know Yoga 2 Pro has a better processor, is thinner and lighter, and has a QHD screen, but that's not what I'm looking for. What I want to discuss is not what you find in a typical review.  I want to discuss the issues that people seem to be having with these laptops.   I want to see what issues both of these laptops share and what they don't.  I currently have a Yoga 13, and I'm debating whether I should return it and get a Yoga 2 Pro, but if it has more issues than my Yoga 13, then I don't want to do it. Issues that I know of so far: Yoga 2 Pro  (I've never had this laptop so I'm only going off of what people have been complaining about) Yellow Color Issue (looks musturd / greenish)  (But is fixable, to a point)Wifi Dropping Flickering screen?(Are there more?  I don't know much about the Yoga 2 Pro) Yoga 13 (I've owned this for about 10 days) Weak Wifi  (An issue I have only sometimes)Loud Fan Noise / Fan always on  (Manageable with Notebook Fan Control program)Problems with streaming videos in anything other than laptop mode (My issue)Plugged in but not charging (another issue I ran into)Hinge becoming loose (Hasn't happened to me yet)(What else is there?)  So that's all I know of so far.  What other issues have people run into with these two laptops.  Which laptop's iss...
