Thinkpad Yoga 14 screen is terrible when using a capacitive stylus...

Question: Thinkpad Yoga 14 screen is terrible when using a capacitive stylus...

I just purchased a Thinkpad Yoga 14 (which was just released today), and I have to say, I am rather disappointed. After finding out there is no active digitizer, I thought I would be able to just use a capacitive stylus to take notes (the type of stylus with a rubber tip at the end). Well, turns out that it is terrible when it comes to detecting input from a capacitive stylus (trust me, I've tried them all). The main issue that I am running into with the capacitive stylus is when it comes to writing, where the screen doesn't recognize the stylus for a split second and will actually seem like it is skipping. Here is a picture to try and show what I am talking about. http://imgur.com/JlWSoUh.jpg Another issue I just ran into is I am having a very hard time trying to wake it from sleep, where I try to open up the screen but all it is displaying is black. I usually have to close the laptop, wait for a minute or so, then open it up again. Very annoying. There is also noticeable lag when scrolling using 2 finger scrolling. It's nothing compared to the Macbook lineup, where touchpad scrolling seems to be flawless.

Preferred Solution: Thinkpad Yoga 14 screen is terrible when using a capacitive stylus...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Model number is 20DM, but sadly it's not pen enabled. So, i decided to try a normal capacitive stylus, and to my disappointment whenever i tried to draw a straight line, it jumped and drew a dotted line. Anyone else having this problem?

Hello, everyone! Long-time lurker, first-time poster. Can anyone recommend a non-Lenovo screen protector for the Yoga 13 that does not reduce capacitance sensitivity? Unfortunately the official protector interferes enough that none of the styluses I've tried work reliably-- lots of skipping and unregistered contacts.I tried using my preferred stylus, a GoSmart Series 200, after removing the official protector, and subsequently scratched my screen. It's definitely not Gorilla Glass! Feels like the top surface might be plastic, actually...

The on-bezel windows button is extremely sensitive. So much so that I often activate it accidentally while using the laptop in tablet mode or writing. Is there any way to temporarily disable the button, at least while I'm using the laptop in tablet mode?

Hello, I have a thinkpad yoga. After installing windows 10, it happens that my stylus works fine, but when I rotate the screen it does not work anymore, even if you rotate it back to the initial position. To make it work again I need to restart. I would greatly appreciate your help, because in my work I need to continuously rotate my computer to take notes. Best regards,

Hi,

When I connect Thinkpad Yoga (model 20CD00B1US) to the onelink dock, the stylus stops working.

In order to enable the stylus and Wacom driver following 2 options/ workarounds:
1)  Manually stop and restart the Wacom ISD Service
2) or reboot the machine while the Onelink dock is attached.

I'm using the latest 7.2.0-4 Wacom driver version, all latest lenovo software installed installed on the machine.

Both above mentioned workarounds are ugly, does anybody have a better suggestion to fix this issue?

Had the same issue - a BIOS update just release about a week ago fixed it for me.

After the media event yesterday, I tried to determine if the new ThinkPad Yoga 14 will be available with a stylus and digitizer. It looks like it won't. So I won't be buying one. Can anybody confirm or refute this? Ron

So I got my Thinkpad p40 a few days ago and so far it's been great, with just one problem. The small stylus, the one that's housed in the body of the laptop doesn't work. I'm not sure if the pen itself is defective, or if the charging port is. The separate full-sized pen, the Thinkpad Pen Pro (4X80H34887) functions just fine. I've left the laptop plugged in overnight multiple nights but to no avail, and there doesn't seem to be any 'pen charging driver' in the driver list, just indicators. I've tried various programs, including Lenovo's low battery indicator and the laptop stylus simply doesn't work at all. The Pen Pro works in all the same situations. Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks!

Just received a new thinkpad yoga s1, when using the Onenote application there are section on the middle of the screen that stylus will not write on unless more preasure is applied. Also I notice that if I slide the stylus accross the screen it does not moves smoothly it feels like it gets stucks at time the actual tip. I do not see nothing wrong with the tip that will show any damage. I recently had a surface pro 2 for 1 week and the stylus was very smooth to use and never had any isssues. Can this unit have some hardware issues? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

I also have a new Thinkpad S1 but dont have the problems you describe so I think you may have a hardware issue and should report it

Hi Guys I am using my new Thinkpad Yoga and I am happy so far.Unfortunately I lost my pen/stylus a few days ago and of course, the tablet/ultrabook is useless or just a normal notebook without a stylus. However, I failed to find a spare-stylus which fits in the case. Could you direct me to a webshop or something were I can buy one? And, as it is related to this topic, do you know any other stylus which work with this tablet? The original one is fine but to work all day long with the normal stylus it is a bit to small / thin. Best regards Schneeele

I have two problems i amd struggling to get support from Lenovo on..  1. When i connect my P40 Yoga to a 2nd Display and set my desktop to extended mode. When ever i right-click the 'context' menu that appears is not in the same location as where the stylus is. It appears to be offset based on the amount of total desktop space (becuase its extended) rather than just the actualy lenovo laptop screen. (which is the only screen thats compatible with the stylus). Any suggestions? 2. This one has only started happening recently. The Wacom service: Tablet Service for ISD Driver is constantly using 75% of my CPU and generally makes the device unusable. If i disable the service i am no longer able to use my stylus.. (which is the whole point for buying this laptop at $2000!). It continues to use 75% of my CPU no matter what i do (even when not using the stylus). It appears to use more and more memory over time as well.. Who should be fixing this Lenovo or Wacom?  ?

Hi,  I am looking into getting a style/pen to use on the touchscreen. Are there any reccomendations? I prefer a pen with a fine tip, like the Jot Touch.  http://www.adonit.net/jot/touch/ My use will be to write business notes in evernote/one note. I am having trouble finding other review on the pen for this specific laptop, so your experiences would be valued! Opinions appreciated, thank you.

Does any of the 14" or 15" thinkpad yoga's support stylus? If so, could you tell me the exact model and exact stylus to get?

Answer:Does Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14/15" Support Stylus?

Hi

It may help you to know the exact model number of your Thinkpad Yoga and check the PSREF Books: http://psref.lenovo.com/Book

Some TP Yoga support it and some not.

On my case I have a TP Yoga 14 (full model number 20DM008UUS) and it works with the Thinkpad Pen Pro (4X80H34887).

Hi there...  First time user,  just bought an X1 Carbon Gen 3, still waiting on delivery.I'm currently using a Sony Vaio which has a dedicated Active Capacitive Stylus which I love.  I bought the high res touch screen model of the X1 but it doesn't come with a pen, so I'm wondering if it is capacitive and if so could someone recommend a pen.  I'm giving my wife the Sony, which means she'll get my beloved pen too, which is a bummer.  Thanks

Congrats on the Carbon3! Great machines, IMHO.
It's definitely a capacitive touch screen, so you should be able to use the capacitive pen of your choice.

Oops! Google Chrome could not find forums.lenovo.com... I have to say, I am really tired of seeing this. I literally have to refresh every single web page i open 5-10 times before it will actually appear. And then, it might take forever to load. Also, when I play music or sound - the speakers skip the sound often or I get a horrible feedback that interrupts me all the time.  Does anyone have any fixes to these problems? It's extremely frustrating and makes working very difficult.

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga Speakers and Internet Connection are unbelievably expletive-worthily terrible

If you are using wi-fi for internet connection and windows 8 or 8.1 this could be the case. Drivers for wi-fi card on win8 are just terrible. Go to control panel -> device manager -> network adapters -> intel dual band... -> advanced -> HT Mode and set it to disabled. This could be workarround which could help a little until they will fix a driver...maybe someday...it's just terrible and irresponsible from intel and lenovo to have that kind of problems...On Ubuntu for example everything is just working....out of the box...

My brand new Thinkpad Yoga doesnt register pressure from pen input. I've tried installing drivers and hunting around the settings but nothing is working. My Thinkpad did come with a stylus and stylus support and it is registering a curser when the pen is above the screen but pressure on the screen with the pen doesnt work. Thanks for your help.

Which program are you using to test the pressure sensitivity? I know that there's a specific Wacom driver you have to install, "Wacom Pen" See this topic: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/Thinkpad-Yoga-Digitizer-pressure-sensitivity/td-...

So my work just got me a Thinkpad Yoga as per my requestI have confirmed that in the Device Manager I do see: "HID-compliant touch screen" I have also gone out on my own and purchased the UP710E wacom stylus, as suggested at various points on this board and on other sites, as something that should work with the Yoga I've also purchased Manga Studios as an art program that is supported on this device (it seems to run fine) and with the pen. I turned on Manga Studios (and MSPaint for good measure), pressed pen to screen and... nothing.  Eraser to screen.. nothing.  Mouse?  Works fine.  Stylus that everything and everyone indicated should work?  Nope. So.... what am I missing?  Is there a driver I should be looking at?  Everything should be up to date.. some in-between program I need to install?  Try this when the wind is blowing south by southwest? Help please?

If you could post the 10 character machine type-model number from the sticker on the bottom of your TP Yoga, that may help. The same sticker lists your serial number, but please don't post that.

After looking around a bit I couldn't find anyone with this particular problem, but maybe I missed something.  At any rate, my problem is that any time I use the stylus near the top or left hand side of the screen, it simply stops working. On the left side, it simply won't go the last centimeter over. It's as if it thinks it's reached the edge of the screen.  At the top centimeter however, it gets stuck. If I move the stylus up into that area, it will reach a certain horizontal line. Moving the stylus up further will cause no vertical movement and spastic, oversensitive horizontal movement. However, if I start moving my stylus down, the cursor begins to very slowly move up. The curser will stay in the top centimeter of the screen until the stylus is touched somewhere in the bottom fourth of the screen, whereapon the cursor will snap back to where the stylus actually is. If the stylus touches the screen anywhere while it's 'stuck,' it will click at wherever it seems to think it is, which very often causes unwanted closing of tabs or windows.  This problem does not occur when using touch. If I use my finger, the computer can accurately tell where I've pressed it, even if it's in the areas that cause problems.   Is there a problem with the software/drivers? Is the pen faulty? Or is there something wrong with my screen?

Hello, A shallow search turns up many results of people making claims of the "functionality" of capacitive styli, including a variety of generic, the Wacom Bamboo (?) and the Adonit Jot series. After watching a video on the Adonit Jot Script on an IPad, I grabbed one from Amazon, and was sorely disappointed.  Does it "work?"  Yes.  I can interact with the screen with the stylus, but without palm rejection, it's truly useless as a writing tool. So, at the risk of sounding redundant, does anyone know of a capacitive stylus that works with Windows 8 specifically the Twist hardware that also has palm rejection?  Thanks, Matt

Unsure why I can't edit my post.I spent some time researching the digitizer/touchscreen and figured out that it is made by a company called Atmel (looked up the PCI Vendor ID/VID from the HID-Compliant touchscreen in devmgmt.msc). It is of the maXTouch series, although I can't determine which class (I couldn't find the Product ID/PID).I did, however, figure out that Atmel makes a stylus that's compatible with a few classes of their digitizers called the maXStylus. Searching around on electronics suppliers, I learned quickly that, although being sold at the "low low price" of ~$5USD at several sites, that the minimum order is 6000, and requires a direct manufacturer order.I then wrote an email to the customer service people at Atmel. It's clear that they may or may not entertain my request for info, being that they are an B2B electronics manufacturer, not an B2C/end user vendor. In effort to find the stylus, I came across the fact that it is used in a few HP laptops (as well as a few others). The good news? Here's a youtube video of an "unboxing": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkSuBY35-1YHere's two HP links to the same exact model (one is a "smart buy" which basically means nothing for the part itself):HP Executive Tablet Gen2 Pen: http://h30094.www3.hp.com/product/sku/10754734/mfg_partno/F3G73AAHP Executive Tablet Gen2 Pen SmartBuy (~$10USD cheaper): http://h30094.www3.hp.com/product/sku/10754735/mfg_partno/F3G73UTThe bad news? Hello friends, I need help to decide if my new TY is OK or I better send it backThe stylus should move the mouse when hovering, and click/write when touching the screen. The problem is, that the stylus sometimes clicking/writing when only hovering. Since it was annoing that sometimes my hovers got into the paint, I sent it to my retailer to have a look. The retailer say that the problem gone when turning the stylus sensitivity to low, that is, he wants to change the manufacturer's default setting. Is this a proper solution? I believed that it shouldn't happen out of the box, and that I don't have to lower anything.  I can still send it back and get a new Thinkpad Yoga if it isn't a normal behavior..BTW: I tried to update the pen firmware and the BIOS but it didn't help. Thanks a lot for helping

Not normal behavior and accepting a software setting is only a "quick fix". - The retailer should give you a full refund/replacement/repair depending on circumstances. It may also be a faulty stylus only.

Hey everyone! I purchased the Thinkpad Yoga 14 around mid-July and love it, but I can't use the pen's erase button in Onenote 2013. It wasn't working in Photoshop for a while, either. It works with every other Office program that supports pen input (word, excel, powerpoint, etc.) I did some research, and read a few comments that said Windows 10 fixes the issue with the erase button.  I upgraded to Windows 10 today, and while the erase button works in Photoshop now, it still isn't working in Onenote. I'm at a loss here. I can't figure out how to fix this for the life of me, and nothing else I come across online has been helpful. Does anyone know how to fix this??? I use Onenote to thumbnail drawing concepts and comic pages; so, I do a ton of sketching and am using the eraser every few minutes. Not having access to a quick erase button is really frustrating.  Edit: Nevermind. I figured it out on my own. For whatever reason, I had to go to the pen control panel and tick the box "Use the top of the pen to erase ink (where applicable)". That seems to have fixed the issue.

Hi everyone. I bought a Thinkpad Yoga almost 7 months ago. Everything is working fine, except for the awful stylus. Initially, the stylus works "ok", having a little delay sensing that my pen is off the screen. But lately, it is getting so bad, I suspect the pressure sensor is stuck. This causes the pen to be writing stuffs even when i'm just hovering above the screen. I attached an image to show what this would cause in a typical writting example:     As you can see, when I lift my pen to write the next character, it is still stuck on writing mode, causing streaks to connect every single character i write. It is totally unusable! Frustratingly, I went to this webpage to "Submit a Service Request". I received phone calls for awhile stating that my pen is on backorder, but after a week, my request just disappeared from the system! I tried again the second time, but the same thing happened allover again. Please help!

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga Stylus/Pen totally unusable. Support ticket got deleted.

The stylus is truly awful, I'm on my second one already (after 10 months) as tips are not replaceable and scratch the screen when they wear. And this bloody joke of a pen also costs over $40 in Australia. Didn't go to Lenovo warranty over the pen, just bought a new one - but I'm in the process of getting warranty service for my screen at the moment (as described here) so I can feel your pain. It may be worthwile to send a formal complaint email to the support email and see if this makes them move a bit faster.

I'm a global traveller, based in Africa, and wanted to share my terrible experience with Lenova Customer service. After a 10 year stint with Apple, I decided to give Lenova a chance, given the improvement in their product line and opted to purchase a Yoga 900 in Taipei during the business trip there last December. I was very happy with the product until last month, when I got  my screen cracked on a flight from Lagos to Nairobi. I thought, this is inconvinient, but I have global warranty so it should be fixed very soon. This is where the saga began. I checked four countries that i know I was visiting over the next few weeks to see if I can get replacement or a fix. In Nigeria --> They do not have a service centre, so only through 3rd party service centres. I register for a repair, after 3 weeks, they called me to tell me they cannot get the part.In Kenya --> same storyIn Turkey -->  would take 3-4 weeks and no guarantee they would be able to source the partIn US --> the usual, would take 3-4 weeks and no guarantee they would be able to source the part. In addition they told me they are not even sure whether they can service my computer, given it was purchased out of US. It is beyond me how a company who claims to be global can fail on customer service and support in such a major way. And I'm not even claiming this service under warrantly - just want a simple screen replacement or being provided with a replacement machine. Yoga se... Read more

I tried to fix it from the touch screen settings but nothing seems to work. and advice on fixing this is greatly appreciated.

I have a Lenovo Yoga 720 13" and a Bamboo Ink Smart Stylus to use on it, both of which I got this week. For the most part they work together really well, but when the Yoga is in tablet mode and I rotate the orientation from landscape to portrait, it will no longer register the pen's signal. Even weirder, it won't register it after I flip it back to landscape, or even when it's back in laptop mode. The only way to use the stylus on it after it does this is to restart the laptop altogether. The Bluetooth still works; I can still open apps by clicking the end of the stylus. I just can't actually write anything with it. Is there an easy fix for this, some setting I can change that I'm missing? Or does this indicate a bigger problem? If anyone can shed some light on this, it'd be much appreciated.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 720 13" won't register stylus after changing screen orientation

Hello ActuallyjordanThanks for using the Lenovo forums.Try to download the Video and Chipset drivers for the unit from the support page.

Make sure to reboot after an update on the unit.
Also, Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)1. Turn the unit off2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter5. Turn the unit on as normal

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

I currently own the HP x360 and I have been searching the internet for an active stylus that will work on my computer that has palm rejection.  I first ordered the Dell Active Pen PN556W because I read online it was better than the HP Active Stylus.  I had to send it back though because it would not work with my computer.  The customer service rep that sold me the stylus said it would work with my computer but later when I called back, I discovered it only works with Dell computers. I then picked up the Wacom Bamboo Omni from Best Buy.  The stylus works but it doesn't have the features I want such as palm rejection and pressure sensitivity.  I am also having a problem when the stylus is not picking up all the lines I write.  It said on the box it was for iPhones and Androids so that may be the reason why it doesn't work well with my computer.  I am not faulting the pen for that issue. I finally ordered the HP Active Stylus.  I received the stylus today and  I am having issues with it.  The tip of the stylus does not write on my screen, but I am able to write on the screen with the butt of the stylus.  I called support about this issue and they told me that I could either pay for support or send the stylus back.   I tried calling to send the stylus back and the line was closed.  I don't like HP's business practices, so I will not be buying another product from them again.  It is ridiculous&nbs... Recently I found out that my lenovo yoga 710-15ikb laptop doesnt support digitizer active pen technology. Its hidden in online talks and also frustration when you buy a $70 wacom bamboo ink pen to find that it doesnt work. I understand that most active pens wont work with my computer because the screen (and maybe motherboard) dont have a digitizer. However, I have been looking online and some retailers appear to be selling digitizer lcd screens for my specific model. My question is whether or not these retailers are selling aftermarket screens and if they are will the digitizer work once one is installed? Also, I have a lot of experience doing repair work, mainly with digital cameras and building my desktop, so the task of replacing my laptops screen is not a problem Im just unsure as to whether or not buying a new digitizer lcd screen will work. I realized my Lenovo thinkpad ordered from bestbuy does not have a stylus.  I simply thought it was a port until it was pointed out by a collegue. Anyways I've been getting run around from Lenovo tech support as well as best buy/ bestbuy.com I simply want to replace a pen that did not come with the computer.  I was on the phone with Best buy and Bestbuy.com separately for 45 minutes.  They could not solve it.  I don't want to make this a federal case.  I just want the part that did not come with the Laptop  Thanks Lenovo email tech support:RE: J Waters9:30 AM (3 hours ago) to me Good afternoon XXXX,I apologize but, this case states that if the machine did not come with the stylus and you purchased it directly from Lenovo, You will need to contact Lenovo Sales at 1.855.253.6686 to file a missing parts claim or to set up a return or exchange. If you did not by it from Lenovo, You will need to approach the 3rd party vendor you purchased it from to inquire about the stylus. We do not replace lost or missing parts here in technical support.Thank you for contacting Lenovo.

Answer:Missing Stylus - Thinkpad Pen stylus-- how to get Lenovo to replace?

Also, it's not a lost part... it's a part that was never in the computer when I received... so I wouldn't define that as "lost or missing"

Hi guys! On my new TPY the touch screen on the left hand side (the side where the charger is connected) is unresponsive. The pen however works perfectly fine. I have already run the lenovo software update tool and updated/installed all the drivers so I wonder what might be the culprit here...? Best,Chris

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga - touch screen on left half of the screen unresponsive

if the left hand screen touch is unresponsive, then it is a hardware problem. You would need to send in for service.

Hi, I understand the basics of a capacitive screen as opposed to a resistive
one. What I don't understand is the meaning of 5 or 10 points when describing a capacitive screen. Can someone clarify this for me please.

Answer:5 or 10 point capacitive screen ?

Multi point touch screens sense multiple points of contact on the tablet PC allowing for better accuracy and the zooming option. The more points the better the response from the LCD screen. Most tablets come in a range of multi touch depending on the price. The most basic is a 2 point touch. Other common multi touch screens are 5 point touch and 10 point touch(used in the iPad 2 for example). These give the user far better accuracy and response.

I am having a nokia lumia 720. Now i am having problems on its capacitive touch screen. It automatically touch itself and at that time the screen freezes. Pressing back, taking menu, opens bing search automatically by the phone.. I have done soft reset, hard reset and everything. And remove sim , memory card and the problem still persists. What to do now?

Answer:capacitive touch screen.

If the issue is still there after a hard reset then it sounds like a hardware fault.
I would look to take it in for repair.

Dear all, I would like to upgrade the touchscreen on the Thinkpad Yoga 260 - I have the 1366x768 model (a long and annoying story!) and I really want the 1080 screen - for obvious reasons. I am relatively technically competent (I'm a tinkerer) and have carried out these sorts of procedures on other laptops in the past. Which brings me to my question... Having upgraded the screen on a T450 and run into the problem of the display driver not accepting the new screen (some issue relating to EDIDs, or something like that) (https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/3t3z1d/lenovo_t450_lcd_replacement_cant_change_brightness... Am I going to encounter the same problem with the Yoga 260? Or potentially worse given that there are touch-screen issues involved too? Looking around at replacement panel assemblies they instruct not to use if the present resolution is wrong (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12-5-FHD-LCD-LED-Touch-Screen-Assembly-for-Lenovo-ThinkPad-Yoga-260-1920X1...) - it is just these particular panels, or am I screwed? Any success stories would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tim

I am currently typing this on a bluetooth keyboard attatched to my phone...  Thank God for the keyboard.   Anyway my laptop is obviously down.  It started off where it wouldn't turn on at all.  I simply got 3 lights on the thinkpad when plugging it in, and two lights when trying to get it to turn on.  Then after letting it sit for a while, it would turn on and boot up, only to shut off after 20 seconds or so...  Then it finally booted all the way up, and I was extremely happy...  I even journaled about how happy I was on my journal software on my computer, but after shutting it down all that happens is a solid thinkpad light when I turn it on, and the keyboard flashes like normal then...  no screen comes on.   I thought to myself, at least I have a backup tablet...  I guess I had it sitting in its case too long because it seems that the battery is gone on it and wont even turn on so I am left using my tablets keyboard with my phone to write to you fine people.  Like I said, I am very grateful for this keyboard making my situation much more bearable. Please help.  I am thinking all signs are pointing towards some sort of motherboard failure, but am hoping that there is a wizard in the forums that may be able to wave a magic wand.  I have already pushed the static discharge button around 101 times.

Hi, I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga laptop for which I need to replace the touchscreen LCD panel as I've damaged it. Tried searching this one here, no luck. I recent;ly purchased a Thinkpad Yoga 14 at Best Buy, from which I understand is a T400 so I hope I'm correct in posting in this section. I love the machine, however, after about a week it started developing a discolored region in the lower left corner: orange in color, circular in shape, about one half to three quarters of an inch in diameter. I searched the web and found for other devices, and solutions varying from returns to software based methods (of which I am dubious). Edit: I am noticing a slighter discoloration over a larger area in the lower left corner, barely discernable but it's there, as well as the very noticable circle. Before I return the device, I wanted to post here to get any input. Has anyone else experienced this and their solution?

Hi,I have a 2nd generation Thinkpad Yoga 12.5 inch notebook. I have had this computer for about 18 months and the screen is completely ruined in many places. I have the matte screen and it appears that the pen has been scratching the soft matte finnish at many places. There are also big smudges from the keyboard that does not go away when I try to clean the screen. I am happy with this laptop overall, but I think it is terrible design to fail to make sure that the screen and keyboard is not touching when the lid is closed! Is it possible to fix these screen issues? Looking at the corner of the the screen, it looks like there is a screenprotector or similar on the device. Is this how Lenovo makes their matte screens? Just pasting a screen protector on top of a glossy screen? If so, would it be possible for me to remove it without damaging the actual screen and get rid of the scratches and smudges? Cheers Cheers

Hey, after I now solved several issues with my new Thinkpad Yoga one issue remains: The screen seems quite flickery in some situations (especially for darker or greyish backgrounds). This is most noticeable for medium brightness settings.  Has anyone seen this issue, too? I don't exactly know how to describe it but maybe some low frequency backlight would be the best fit. However as it is LED backlit (?) there should be no such thing at all. If you want to check this, go to any brightness setting except full brightness and launch any of the Lenovo Metro apps (e.g. Settings, Lenovo Companion, Quickcast, ... ) as they show a grey screen upon launching.   Thanks,Christian

Hi, I just received my Yoga and it looks and feels great. However, there seems to be some sort of foil over the screen, that doesn't quite cover the screen edge to edge. It stops around maybe 0.5mm from the end of the glass panel. It also appears to give the display some sorty of milky grey collor when turned off. I was wondering if this is part of the digitizer, a protective or anti-glare foil, or something else entirely? I first thought it was the kind of screen protector you see on phones when you first buy them, but there's no latch to take it of, and it seems to be glued to the display rather well. Can anyone enlighten me?

Current ThinkPad: S1 YogaFormer ThinkPads: T21, X30, SL300, T60p

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga screen foil?

it is a layer of pre-applied screen protector. It's for anti-glare and protective purpose. It's possible to remove it but requires patience and effort as its strongly glued to the screen during production. From what I understood any fault related with the removal of the screen protector is not covered by the warranty.

After reading through dreaded black screen issue for other models, I am checking if the Thinkpad Yoga also has the black screen issue. Given that this happened barely inside a month after the warranty expired, this has solid changes to be the last lenovo product in the family. Issue: I returned one home from work to wake up my sleeping Lenovo. Noticed it seemed to be in a dark screen mode with nothing showing up. So tried to press a few buttons and then finally powered off using the button. Upon restart, I could see the Lenovo sign and option to press Enter to check other options and I ignored like usual happy path scenario and let it go. At the time it usually starts showing the Windows screens, I see nothing happen. A dark screen with all the keyboard lights still working but no screen. Connected to projector to see if the login screen shows but it did NOT. Tried to restart few times, reset using the pinhole at the bottom, ran diagnositcs and tried to refresh system etc using the troubleshoot options, checked the BIOS settings - all of which show up on screen and the LCD test pass like a charm but the Windows boot does not work. Thinkpad Yoga 15 running on Windows 10 pro. 20DQ machine type. The frustarting thing is warranty just expired end of July, phone support wont even discuss the issue since it is expired. I've been using penabled laptops for about 8 years now and bought a ThinkPad Yoga about 10 month ago. The pen turned out to be disappointing - it's a lightweight job reminiscent of the pens they include with Samsung Note and like phablets rather tha a proper full size Wacom pen. Just like other people I was also disappointed by the non removable plastic sheet protector on the screen in place of proper Gorilla glass screen cover. But well, overall, apart from the awful touchpad, it was a decent laptop and I've been always happy with my previous Thinkpads, so I kept it. Now, I'm using the pen a lot, incliding for scrolling. It turned out that the nib is not replaceable and that the plastic sheet protector on the screen is not hard enough to resist wear from the included pen - after 10 month of use it's pretty badly worn, especially in the scrolling area on the right. I've never had this issue with my previous penabled tablets, even after 3-4 years of use, so I must say I'm rather disapponted at Lenovo selling this as a penabled laptop when the screen could not stand up to daily use with the included pen. Does anyone else have this issue? Should I send it back to Lenovo to get the protective layer replaced while it's still under warranty?

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga - screen wear when using the pen

Have you tried removing the factory screen protector? I pried the edge of mine up with a razor blade to see if it was movable... but then decided not to continue. I need to eventually do it, though, because it is scratched.

Some days ago I received a new Thinkpad Yoga. My problem is that the screen is not manufactured very well. The left bottom corner is ~ 1 mm standing out of the case. It seems that it is not glued very well. If I press the corner into it it remains there for some time. But after some minutes it rises again. It's not so large but I can lift it with my finger nails. After having a phone call with Lenovo support they told me that the dealer is responsible to replace it. My dealer tells me that Lenovo has to handle this. What should I do? Nobody feels responsible? Is there a special glue available so that I fix it myself?

Answer:problem with Thinkpad Yoga screen

don't repair it yourself, you need to get it replaced.

Hi all, not a problem as such just like to know the reason. I have a tablet with a capacitive screen, using a finger or a conductive probe/stylus
it works fine as it should. If I use a piece of wire or or any other conductor ie a coin, nothing happens. I don't intend poking it with wire or anything else but would like some one to explain please out of curiosity more than any other reason.

Answer:Capacitive touch screen explanation please

Any use, How Stuff Works. Not a definitive answer I admit but perhaps it has to do with the size of the conductor?

I started facing this issue a month or two ago - When I try to connecting to a device (TV, Projector) with a MS Display Adapter, my laptop freezes. I dont recieve any error messages and I have to hold down the power and do a 'hard boot'.  After this hard/reboot, I can connect to the wireless display.  This happens everytime and with different Wireless Display Adapters. I need to present in meetings a handful times each week and right now the only solution I have is to connect, have it freeze, do a hard boot, then it will usually connect normally. However, if I try to disconnect and connect again, I will face the same issues of a total freeze. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do or what could be causing this?

Hello,

My Thinkpad Yoga (model year 2014-2015) gives sometimes a white screen by startup, or after a softclose (for example when turn over from laptop to tablet mode). When I open and close my screen after a couple of times the screen is ok and I can work with it.

I called Lenovo support because I think it is something with the connector from the screen to the motherboard. The computer was 2 months out of warranty so they say that I could send it to support for a check, what will cost me a lot of money for only analyse the issue. So I asked for another solution.

They asked me to reinstal Windows and al the drivers, because they think that it is a software issue. Because there is a lot of software on my computer, and I need him every day for my work, I didn't have time to do this directly (first make a backup and then reinstall al the software).

So I bought a new Lenovo thinkpad Yoga 260, and installed al my software. Now my "old" Yoga, whit the white screen issue, is ready for reinstall the software.

Today I reinstalled Windows 10, but the issue is still there "sometimes white screen". So I think again it is not a software issue but a issue whit the connector from the screen to the motherboard.

My question is if someone has experience whit this issue, or maybe the same issue?

So, My ThinkPad Yoga 14 (20DM) has this issue where randomly, there will be randomly screen presses across the screen. This will usually click some link I didn't want to, so it disrupts my workflow. I don't have a precise  way to replicate it, but it feels like maybe it's related to when the laptop is hot? I  don't know. Anyway, in practice, this effect looks just like an issue that occurred for Yoga 3 14s (see here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-3-14-inch-Touch-Screen-Issues/m-p/214... and https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/SF15-I0024 )UNFORTUNATELY, the fix for that laptop model is designed for LG screen panels. Since the ThinkPad Yoga 14 doesn't have one of these panels, the fix will not run for this laptop. Is there a similar fix for this laptop?

Answer:Ghost screen touches on ThinkPad S3 Yoga 14

Hi I have a Thinkpad TP 14 - 20DM008UUS  and I didn't experience that issue. Can you share your full model number and which Windows version are you using? Just my thoughts... When you said " randomly screen presses across the screen" do you think it cames from the touchscreen? Did you see some "screen animation" like the circle that Windows produce when you touch the screen, or the cursor moving when your issue happens? Maybe it can give you hints on where is the problem. Do you think it can be the Touchpad that when you move your fingers or when you have your palm over it? Or is happens  when you are typing? Since I'm a driver freak, I always try to stay up to date with the firmware and drivers for the machine. If you want to you can also try to update the drivers with Lenovo System Update first. Regartds

Hallo,Judging by users of Thinkpad P50 and P70 in this forum it seems that screen problems are not that unusual. My own experience is that the screen of my P40 died within a week of the purchasing it. I sent it in for repairs only to receive the message "the repair procedure has stopped due to unavailability of spare parts". That was two weeks ago.Lenovo: if you launch a new model it would be wise to see to it that you have stocked up on spare parts, ESPECIALLY those that are prone to failure, i.e. screens. As of now, I am clueless when I will receive it back, and I desperately need it now (preferably yesterday) for my work. That's why I bought a workstation for PREMIUM MONEY! So, prospective buyers bear this issue in mind if you need a reliable workstation. Aatje

Hello all, I'm wondering if anyone else is having a similar problem. I've had this laptop for several months now and this problem will not go away. The screen, when folded shut, sits too close to the keyboard and whatever oils my fingers leave behind get pressed and smudged onto the screen. It's really, really awful and makes me almost hate the laptop. I've had to carry a screen cloth and spray with me wherever I go but it's getting really annoying knowing that this isn't a problem I should have to deal with.Link to Photo

Hi all, Recently bought a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14 (20DM) with Windows 10. But randomly the screen is flickering for a few seconds, then is back to normal. If a connect the HDMI to a TV, the laptop screen is flickering while the TV is working fine. I already updated Windows and all the drivers. Any idea or suggestion? Thanks and regards,Jose

I realized that the screen of my Thinkpad Yoga does not turn off when it's closed. I am not talking about standby. I did not set my Yoga to go into standby when closing the lid, I wan't it to keep running and download/process/simulate and so on. Nevertheless, the screen should normaly turn off when closed to safe battery. I am not sure if my Yoga had that from the start, because I had the screen (because of burn in), the webcam (because of malfunction) and the mainboard (because of ongoing malfunction) replaced. So I can't really tell which and if any of thes operations changed the behaviour. Can any one of you confirm that their screen is turning off when closing the lid (without going to standby). Thank you very much!

Hi, everyone. I have a Thinkpad X1 yoga with OLED display. I bought it on last November. After having it for half a year, I found a problem about the screen. When I turn down the brightness to below 20 or to the darkest. I can see the screen is flashing. It is very annoying. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Many thanks. Here is a video that helps to understand the issue better.

I just got a thinkpad yoga and I have noticed since I started using it that the screen randomly flickers.  I can't narrow it down to a time where I'm doing a specific task.  Any help in tracking down the problem would be greatly appreciated.

I've noticed that my Thinkpad X1 Yoga (3 months old?) has developed white streaks on the screen. THey are equally spaced from the lower windows button and then extend up and towards the center of the screen - I'm guessing a defect of the LCD screen? Can anyone help diagnose the problem. See attached photo.

Hello,  I used the Lenovo-Tool to automatically check what needs to be updated and followed the recommendations. It was a NVIDIA-Driver update for security reasons and about 10 - 15 other updates. What I noticed late was that there was also a Bios update recommended and selected. However, I tursted in Lenovos automatic update meachnism. The updates ran trough, despite the NVIDIA-Update which was marked by a red cross. Also the Bios update started and mentioned not to turn off the computer. A Dos-Box under my Windows 10 appeared and disappeared and the computer wanted to shut down - which was happening in a normal way. But now the screens were black, the computer was off. After a while, I switched it on again - the fan went on again but nothing happened.  Which means: - The screen is black all the time (as if it was broken, no text is displayed)- External screens, connected via dockingstation or HDMI are black- Computer did not display anything when connecting a bootable USB-Stick with free DOS- Interestingly, the computer is warm and the fan sometimes changes its speed. What can I do now? I assume that something went wrong with the BIOS-Update. Is there anything I can do on my own? Can this problem be fixed by Lenovo? Thank you for your replies! Best regards Nic4

Hey guys ive had the Thinkpad Yoga 12.5 since its launch and absolutely love it especially for art. Unfortunately using the stylus so much has left the screen protector pretty scratched and warn in the middle of the screen. Is it possible to have the screen protector replaced under extended warranty?

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga Screen Protector Wear

I have the same question too. I am not even sure if the screen protecting plastic is supposed to be on the screen or if it is meant to be removed after starting the pc? If it is meant to be there, then how could you replace the screen protector later on?

P.S. ImpactBlue: Can you share some of your art you are capable of doing with this TP Yoga? I am hardly able to handwrite correctly with the pan, so it amazes me that you would use it heavily for art. I would love ot see that.

I am experiencing problems with the touch screen on ThinkPad Yoga 14. Sometimes it recognizes 1 tap as more taps. When typing some letters are pressed more than once or when scrolling through a webpage it randomly zooms (zoom is caused by the falsely recognized double tap gesture). Sometimes it happens more often (several times per minute), sometimes it is working fine. I really have no idea what could be affecting the touch screen responsiveness this way. The notebook was bought in June, it is a version with a GeForce 840M and without a digitizer. The issue was present in Windows 8.1 Pro and is still present in a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro. I have contacted the support on this matter. They replaced the whole LCD. For some time it seemed OK, but now the issue is back. I have been in contact with the technician and he's clueless what could be causing it other than the LCD. Any ideas? It makes the tablet mode almost completely useless.

Hi Knight1 I have a similar machine but I'm not experiencing this problem. I don't know if you did it before but it can be good to start updating your drivers. If you do not have experience with that try using the "System Update" utility from Lenovo. If you do not have it already installed check it here. Update the BIOS, video and recommended driver. Sorry it is not a solution but maybe you can try to see if there if some touchscreen driver can be updated. Regards

I haven't seen any topics that seem to quite replicate the specific problem I have, so here I am.Without warning, the screen of my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 11e tablet-notebook will turn black. It appears to be an "active" black rather than the screen turning wholly off. The rest of the computer is working normally during these times: audio carries on, keyboard and mouse input function, and nothing else seems to shut down or turn off. Keyboard, mouse, or touchscreen input causes the screen to return to normal briefly, but the only way to make it stop happening for sure is to restart the computer. I don't think it's connected to sleep functions, given that it happens while I'm actively using the computer.I don't know exactly why this happens, but it usually happens after long periods of use. At least once it has happened within an hour or so of being turned on for the first time that day, but I had a great deal of Chrome tabs open and that may have been similarly taxing. While this problem is not exactly disastrous, it is pretty annoying and well outside the acceptable boundaries of computer behavior, especially for a device I have had for only a few months. I would greatly appreciate help in rectifying this problem.

Hello everyone, I received my P40 Yoga only two or three months ago, and I'm highly concerned about one problem I have. There's an extreme count of small white dots (d?2mm) all over the screen. They are significantly brighter that the rest of the screen, although colors of pixels behind are untouched. Also, when I'm touching/pressing near them nothing happens, although they disappear when dark/black images are covering them. Brightness of the dots seems to be constant relative to the brightness of the screen. That means if I turn screen brightness down, they become less bright too.First spots have emerged just after a week of use, but I ignored them. They were (and still are) in the left bottom part of the screen. Now practically most of the screen is covered with dots. Though, I think, there's a bit more dots on the bottom of the screen than there's on top of the screen. Also, it's very unpleasant to see more 'constellations' on a relatively expensive laptop, than I can see on the sky. At the moment, I can't contact my local service center due to certain circumstances. But do you think it is covered by warranty? Or if it isn't, can you please tell me, how can I find the model number of the 1440p IPS screen? Just as an example, there is a photo of a small area of the screen that has the problem attached to this post.

Answer:Thinkpad yoga 14 Flickering Screen and Active Pen

Hi

I have a TP Yoga 14, it is similar but it is different model (20DM008UUS).

I also have the Intel HD 5500 and NVidia 940M, also on 1920 x 1080 with Windows 10 and I have flickering on the screen.

Do you want to give it a try updating the drivers of the Intel HD 5500 and NVidia 940M?

Maybe you already know that you can download the driver of your model here, but I will like to also share my tips for updating the drivers.

1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches
2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.
3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"
4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers.

Regards

Hello CNevayThanks for using the Lenovo forums.Definitely looks like screen backlight bleeding through.

Check if this is present in the BIOS, if it is, then I would recommend that you get in touch with your local Lenovo support line for a possible service. Below is the link to the phone list where you can find these numbers
