ThinkPad Yoga Windows Boot Manager

Question: ThinkPad Yoga Windows Boot Manager

Five or six times now my PC has blue screened and booted back to Windows Boot Manager. On a hard reboot the PC works ok. Worrying that there may be a serious failure on the way so any suggestions what I can do.
I work from a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 1 running Windows 8.1 and fully up to date with drivers/bios etc.

Preferred Solution: ThinkPad Yoga Windows Boot Manager

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: ThinkPad Yoga Windows Boot Manager

run a hdd diagnostic from the Lenovo Diagnostic screen. 1. Restart the laptop, press F12 on restart, this should get you into the Boot menu. https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14645916417/in/photostream/2. Then press TAB, this will get you into the App menu, and in that you choose Lenovo diagnostic, using the direction key. https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14645828938/in/photostream/3. Choose quick storage device test.https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14852323083/in/photostream/4. then choose the hdd and/or ssd for a quick surface scan to see if it is alright. https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14829384881/in/photostream/5. then choose RUN TEST in the option lists. https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14645806150/6. If all your hdd tests pass the mustard, then you should get all PASSED for all the test parameters (provided you selected all the test parameters before you started the test). https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14830189744/

Is there no Lenovo Power Management software for the ThinkPad Yoga? I liked the application. I noticed on the regular Yoga 2, there is an Energy Manager app. ?????

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga: No Lenovo Power Manager?

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If you are using Windows 8/8.1, I?m sorry to inform that Power manager doesn?t exist for the above said operating systems. Energy management is designed to work for Ideapads and ThinkPads are supported with a set of applications called Lenovo Think Vantage Toolbox. Unfortunately, Lenovo had to withdraw power manager for its ThinkPad models due to certain conflicts with Windows 8/8.1.

Hope this clarified your query!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hi Everyone,   Need help with this. My old Thinkpad had his option but the new Thinkpad Yoga 14 with Windows 10, Lenovo Power Manager Doeasnt have the Battery Threshold limting option. I use my laptop more like a Desktop and it is more less connected to the Power Source all through out the day. Previsouly on my Old Thinkpad, I had limit the Charging Capacity to 80% and that extended the battery life for a longtime. I would like to do the same for this one. Please help! My current version Power Manager is 8.00.3.

Hi I wonder if anyone can help? We want to mass deploy ciustom image to Yoga s1 with SCCM 2012 but are aving massive issues with PXE boot. Have read a few forums and they keep pointing towards USB boot or the need to buy a Lenovo USB Dongle. This would mean we have to buy a dongel for each one because of the need to place a MAC address in SCCM. Can anyone suggest another way? Thanks very much

Answer:PXE boot to Thinkpad YOGA S1

What version of SCCM 2012 are you using?  I have read that SP1 changed how it identifies devices and that it no longer relies on the MAC address.  Otherwise, you have to delete the device after each deployment in order to reuse the same dongle.

Computer  was working.fine, did a reboot and now has 'To interrupt normal startup press enter' displayed on the top right. If I let it continue it shows blue screen with unexpected error occurred,  error 0000225, I try to enter recovery with F1 and it just reloads back to the same recovery screen. I've tried with a windows 10 and windows 8.1 install same results.  If I plug the drive into my desktop I can see all my files no problem.  I bought a new SSD and when I try to install Windows the logo comes up but after some time, maybe a minute, it drops to recovery again and says the bios is not fully ACPI compliant, error 0000225 and stops. I've tried disconnecting the bios battery for about 15 minutes and tried again with no luck, same result on new ssd and install.  I'm lost a this point, any ideas? I'm going to try a Bios CD updated tomorrow but I dont have much hope. Cannot get to a command prompt or anything... Video link https://www.dropbox.com/s/s27pnnk38ta43kt/pc.url?dl=0

My Thinkpad X1 Yoga is connected to my work network via a OneLink Plus.  I have a wireless keyboard and mouse connected.  Since the last bios update, when I power up the laptop, a boot menu pops up and I have stop, open the laptop, and select my hard drive using the laptop's screen and keyboard. Is there a way to disable this menu?

Hello, I got a new X1 Yoga in my hands. Its a nice notebook. Using the Pen makes fun and so on. But there is one problem. After reboot or shutdown/and boot the X1 stucks sometimes. I can see the Lenovo Logo, the black background and the message "to interrupt normal startup, press enter". If I press "enter" nothing happens. I can use CTRL-ALT-DEL to "reboot" to the same stuck behavior. Only the Power button helps. The designated user won't be lucky about theat problem.

Answer:Thinkpad X1 Yoga (Gen2) do not boot sometimes

Do you have the latest BIOS?  It sounds like something is timing out.  How long to you let it sit before hitting the button?

I'm going to be picking up a Thinkpad Yoga 14 soon and wanted to know something about the mSata port, can it be set as the primary boot drive? I really want to keep the 1tb hard drive for raw storage and pick up a 256 or 512gb msata drive for Windows and primary applications but want to be sure that's possible before ordering it separately.  Thanks!

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 14 mSata Boot

Hello and welcome,

I can't guarantee that the SSD slot is bootable - although it is in other ThinkPads.  I don't have a machine to test, so I can't speak to it directly.  I'd be surprised if it wasn't bootable.

The reason I'm replying to your post is to remind you that the TP Yoga 14 does not have an mSATA slot.  It has a slot for an NGFF/M.2 SSD. They are not compatible.  From the drawing in the (English) Hardware Maintenance Manual - ThinkPad Yoga 14  it looks like a 42mm device.  IFAIK, there aren't any 512GB M.2 SSDs in the 42mm form factor.  I think there are some 256GB devices announced recently.

Just want to make sure you don't purchase the wrong device.

Hi there, I turned on my thinkpad yoga the other morning and it would not boot into windows 8. It displays a black screen for a while and then returns to the boot device screen. I have tried to reinstall both windos 8 and linux on the the ssd using a usb bootable install drive. Both systems install but they fail to boot, displaying a black screen and then returning to the boot device list when it fails. I have also tried with a new ssd and it gets the same problem. I have had the thinkpad S1 yoage for around a year and a half. 5 days after the warranty ran out the laptop decided that it didn't want to boot up or charge anymore. After a few days of checking cable connections and trying different methods that I read online I managed to get it up and running again. Now half a year later the same problem has happened again except this time I have spent weeks trying to repair it. Does anybody know how to fix this? I dont get any beeping sounds from the motherboard just the power indicator flashes 3 times. I have tried different chargers as well, nothing has worked so far

So I just purchased a refurbished Thinkpad Yoga, and all was great for a little while. Then I decided to shut it down and set it aside for a few minutes. After coming back, it now refuses to even POST. I tried every power cycle I could think of, in various combinations, and browsed several forums. In the end I found no functional solution. Current Status: System responds in no way other than the 'i' light (in the Thinkpad logo) blinking three times when the charger is connected, or the same when the reset button is pressed while the charger is still connected. Nothing else illicits any sort of beep, light, or otherwise. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks and regards.

I have a feeling you had opened up the back cover to fiddle around with the components (be it a change of SSD or the 3g/4g modem). the symptoms you described sounds exactly like a disconnect MB cable. you can try to open up the back cover, and around the left side, you will see a cable labelled "MB". secure it properly, and the computer should be responsive now.

I am trying to disable UEFI Secure Boot on my Thinkpad Yoga S1 but it keeps getting re-enabled after a reboot. If I set secure boot to disabled I can boot into the non secure OSes installed on the machine imediately afterwards but if the machine is restarted the Secure Boot seting in the BIOS is re-enabled.  It's important for me to have secure boot disabled as I use OSes without secure boot.

I try to disable Secure Boot in the BIOS on the following screen :

Link to image 1

But if I re-enter the BIOS either after booting into an OS or simply re-entering the BIOS, Secure Boot is back on:

Link to image 2

I have also tried to disable "OS Optimzed Defaults" but it also returns to enabled after a restart.

Link to image 3

Some of the other BIOS settings save correctly so I can't figure out why the secure boot settings don't. The BIOS version I have is the latest (1.18).

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? It's inconvenient to manually disable secure boot each time I want to use the laptop. The two operating systems (Ubuntu and Android x86) do work reasonably well once booted.

Thanks!

Juan

Answer:Disabling Secure Boot on Thinkpad Yoga S1

I'm having the same issue. I've experienced this with 4 brand new yogas. I will enter bios, disable secure boot, enable legacy pxe and upon reboot the changes are lost. I'm saving changes and exiting.  Resetting user mode options, saving changes and not exiting, those have inconsistently allowed me to keep my changes long enough so i can legacy boot.

I created usb recovery media for my Thinkpad Yoga which came with Windows 8.1. I had a problem recently with my Metro apps so I attempted to use the recovery media, which includes the recovery partition. The boot menu gave me the option to select the usb drive containing the recovery media but it would then fail to boot into the Window Recovery Environment. I followed the instructions in the user guide so I'm a bit confused as to why the usb failed to boot. Is this due to the UEFI secure boot function? Does this mean I have to do something that is not documented in the user guide? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, is there any possibility to make boot from SD Card on Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga? I have live linux image, but there are no optical drive on system, so I would be glad to use the SD Card slot. When start with boot selection, there no SD Card slot listed even if I have the bootable SD Card inserted into. On other system the same card booting properly. Are there some bois settings to allow booting from SD Card slot, so it will be included in boot device list? The same system boot from USB, but USB consume one USB port, so the SD Card is more preferable option. Regards

Hi Everyone! I have a Thinkpad Yoga 12 and recently I am experiencing a rather serious problem with the machine. If I have a drive in it, it will simply not start the booting process and will freeze on the "press enter to interrupt..." screen. Whenever I remove the disk (SSD) the computer starts and I can access BIOS/Diagnostics/Etc. but when reinserting the SSD everything stops and the computer freezes on start. This problem is very annoying because without a proper boot I cannot update the BIOS or do anything with it at all. Did anyone else experience something similiar?I checked the SSD in a different computer and it works without a problem.

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga stuck on boot screen

Hanging on startup with a disk inserted would most likely indicate either a bad SSD or a bad SATA control circuit (motherboard).  If the disk is OK, that leaves only one part.

I purchased a used Thinkpad T520. It has a clean install of Windows 7 Pro x-64and boots without any issues. I decided to access the BIOS and see its currentsettings. I have tried a number of function keys ThinkVantage, F1, F2, F12, etc.without any success. For example, pressing (or tapping) the F1 key or on beforethe ThinkPad logo appears goes to the Windows Boot Manger. I have updated it to the latest version (UEFI 1.45/ECP 1.36) but I am still unableto enter the BIOS. Regards.

Answer:Thinkpad T520 - F1 goes to Boot Manager not BIOS

HiWhat is the boot mode of the laptop (UEFI, Legacy BIOS)?If it's UEFI, any chance Linux was installed before win7?I don't see related settings in the BIOS Setup that might prevent the BIOS access. It's possible to reset the BIOS settings to default ones, but if boot mode will be changed, laptop might become unbootable.

Hi,I received my new ThinkPad X1 Yoga 20FQ one month ago. I'm very happy with it but for one week I'm very often unable to type the power-on password. When I turn on my X1 Yoga (3 times out of 4), the keyboard seems to be not working and I'm stuck at the padlock password prompt. I must insert a paperclip into the reset hole and restart to be able to get the keyboard working and be able to enter the password.  I'm wondering if anyone else have any similar issue and if so, if there is a simple way to fix it? or if I should return the X1 Yoga?  Thanks for your help,Steven

In the last month I purchased a Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2G and the Thuderbolt USB C dock. Since the USB C cable that comes with the dock is too short to allow the dock on the right and laptop on the left (in laptop mode), I put the notebook in tent mode and all works fine---except... Everytime I power up from hibernate it starts beeping about once a second and does not stop. I have to disconnect from the dock, flip it to laptop mode (this is where the beeping stops), return it to tent mode, and then plug the dock back in. It seems that Lenovo, like everybody else, is rushing things to market with plans to fix bugs later (maybe). Any thoughts I how to stop the beeping?  The first time it happened I closed all the apps to reboot and it still was beeping. Thanks.

Ever since upgrading the bios from 1.20, booting or rebooting my thinkpad yoga s1 results in a blank screen after initial post. I'm currently on the latest 1.26 bios for the thinkpad yoga and the latest firmware for the onelink pro as well this is similar to someone's post on here https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-11e-Windows-E-and-Edge/E531-won-t-boot-when-connected-to-OneLi... Called lenovo support and they indicated to downgrade back to 1.17 but read the firmware and after install of latest firmware the lowest firmware I can downgrade to is 1.22 which I tried but it still hangs on boot if the onelink pro is connected during bootup. Anyone else getting this or have a fix? Lenovo, hope you read this and fix the bios, makes the whole point of the dock pretty pointless to me.

Hey there, everyone.I've got this 2 year old ThinkPad Yoga 12 that was working fine one day, and then won't boot at all the next. No screen activity, no backlight on keyboard, nothing except for a solid light on the "i" and then nothing. It does blink when I put the power cord in. Is my mobo borked, or is there something I haven't tried? Thank you!!!

Hello. I'm new here, so sorry if I'm posting in the wrong section, and I also apologize for the length of the post, cause I've been wrestling with this for almost a week and there's a lot of stuff I've tried.

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoda, and a day or two before the crash I've updated to Creators Edition. Everything went fine, the laptop booted and I continued working on it. I have a ThinkPad Windows 7, was working fine for months. Couple of days ago the browser (Chrome or IE) closed while browsing a site. Hi, I just got my new thinkpad yoga 370 that comes with windows 10 preinstalled and I'd like to do a Clean Install of Windows 7. Whoever I'm worried about drivers/comptibility issues, for example that the touch screen doesn't work anymore or that the wacom pen isn't compatible anymore.  Has someone tried to install windows 7 on one of these laptops or do you know if it's possible? If so what precautions should I take? Which drivers will I have to download after the install to make everything work properly? Thank you

Hello, I'm at a loss and afraid I've lost all my files.   Every time I restarted my computer I kept getting the Windows Boot Manager error message: Status: 0xc000000f Info: An error occured while attempting to read the boot configuration data. However, after googling and trying numerous methods to repair this, I now keep getting prompted with the Windows Recovery Manager.  I assumed that choosing the default factory restore option would prompt me with a back up option, but it didn't and proceeded to reformat.  I quickly shut my computer down. I don't know what to do next because now all I get is the Windows Recovery Manager option. Any help would be much appreciated!

Answer:Windows Boot Manager Error / Windows Recovery Manager Issue

If this string of events actually did start to reformat the drive, it might still be recoverable.  I would boot the computer to an independent OS IE: Linux Live on a CD or DVD and then look at the drive.  Then use that to copy your data to another drive.  Once the data is saved, then do whatever you want with this corrupted drive.  Do not try to continue with any other operations until the data is saved elsewhere.Since this PC came with Vista, once the data is saved, you could try the HP REcovery Manager to restore the original OS. Or just start over this a new install of windows 7

I uninstalled the windows 8.1 that came with my Thinkpad Yoga to installe windows 7 64-bit because there was no support for Power Manager ( a tool that allows you to charge your battery only upto a certain percentage (eg 40%) which helps reduce battery aging when the notebook is mostly operated on AC power).Doing that required me to fully clean the Hard-disk during the installation process.I installed almost all of the drivers available on  http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...for thinkpad yoga and windows 7 64 bit.Happily, this provided me the Power manager, and I can use it just as I wanted. However, all these has brought in additional issues which are listed below:  1. The touch pad right click doesn't work. Only two finger tap works as right click.2. The touch pad gestures for zoom and scroll doesn't work at all.3. The screen auto-rotate doesn't work.4. The touch screen gesture for zoom doesn't work. I did install the ultra-nav and screen-rotate drivers, but I get error messages regarding synaptics ... not working and also sensor driver not working during the windows startup. Any help please? Thank you.

Answer:Issues with Thinkpad yoga on Windows 7 64-bit

Follow up: After going through windows update and installing windows 7 service pack 1, some of the issues have been resolved. The screen auto rotates based on device orientation. The two finger scroll and zoom works on the touchpad. The physical right click still doesn't work. (The two finger tap for right-click is working). One important feature that I still find mssing is that the two finger pinch to zoom doesn't work on the Touchscreen (it works in Touchpad though). So, when I am browsing websites on Tablet mode, there is no way to zoom in! Thanks.

I took it out of the package, plugged it in (because it was dead for some reason), and turned it on but it won't boot. It just keeps giving me this error message saying that Windows could not complete installation. I press ok and it just restarts and comes up again.

After i ve updated to windows 10 i cant change the auto rotation if im not on tablet mode, also in tablet mode the trackpoint isnt disabled. are there any tips or recommendations about these issues?20DM000VUS is my laptop model.

Answer:Thinkpad yoga 14 little issues after windows 10

Hi danielmb007 It took me some time to stabilize Windows 10 on the TPY 14 (20DM008UUS). I went into a "driver updating rampage" for it and I have it stabilized right now. This are my tips to update the drivers on my Thinkpad Yoga, but you can decide how deep you want to go for driver updating:1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers. This will be the Lenovo supported drivers, but if you want to look for other update drivers directly from the manufacturer (AS IS) you can try:5) Depending on the machine chipset/processor, you can try Intel Driver Update Utility, or AMD Update Utility.6) I also like to use DriverEasy, which offers a a decent driver update recognition for free, but also tries to sell you the full version. Just be warned that the drivers that are not from the Lenovo support site are "AS IS" and under your own risk, I install them since I'm confortable installing, and un-installing Windows drivers, remember that a wrong driver may turn up Windows un-usable. Regards

Ever since I installed windows 10 the throttling on my yoga 15 has been rediculous. If the computer remotly heats up the programs that I am using slow down to a crawl randomly. This is especially evident on steam games and other heavy programs that require the dedicated graphics card. I have tried everything from reinstalling the nvidia drivers, updating the bios, clean installing windows 10, anything. I have not been able to find a solution for this and its getting quite annoying having my fps drop from 90 or 60 yo 5 every few seconds when before I could keep a solid 60+. Sometimes the fan revs up and down as my frame rates goes up and down. Has anyone found a solution for this? Or has Lenovo done released anything?

I'd like to ask about your experience with updating your 2nd generation Thinkpad Yoga 12 laptops from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. I've seen the black screen problem described, that seems to be an issue with the Synaptics driver and hopefully has been fixed with the current latest release of the synaptics driver from the synaptics site.  According to the discussion thread here anyway. But have you encountered any other issues?  Has Windows 10 been a positive upgrade for battery life?  Any tips on steps before upgrading, such as any driver incompatibility and setting up a back-up? My Yoga 12 is the variety with an i5 5300U and a "hybrid" 16GB SSD + 500GB HDD. Thanks!

Greetings: I have a Thinkpad Yoga (Type 20CD, Model 00B1US) that shipped with Windows 8 Pro installed.  I later upgraded to Windows 10 Pro.  I need to reformat as the machine is sluggish at times.   Any suggestions/tips for doing a complete reformat of the hard drive and then a clean install using Windows 10 Pro?  My concern is impacting the BIOS or losing any of the Lenovo drivers for things like the function keys, keyboard light, screen digitizer, etc.  I am assuming simply reinstalling Windows 10 Pro (instead of reformatting and then reinstalling Windows 10 Pro) will not provide the performance boost I am looking for. Thank you in advance for your input.

hi,as one can see, power adjustments can be made in 'thinkpad power manager' but also in windows itself (configurationmanagement) : what is preferrable ? since i and many others experience the fan noise problem ; and is it so that configuring in Windows AND in thinkpad PM gives a conflict ??

Answer:windows vs thinkpad power manager

http://www.staff.uni-marburg.de/~schmitzr/donate.html

For years the only Thinkvantage program I used was Hotkeys.  I always used windows wireless, windows power manager and everything else windows.  I always figured there would be conflicts between the different power managers just like you're wondering.

I started using Power Manager about a year ago and the more I use it, the better I like it.  I do adjust my windows power settings to match my power manager settings because I still think that if the settings are too far apart there could still be conflicts.  Make sure any power settings in the bios are changed to match.  I haven't had any problems with xp, vista, 7 home premium, 7 professional or 7 ultimate.  It's real easy to make power profiles and switch between them with power manager.

I still like windows 7 network manager better than access connections, but I think that is only because I haven't yet figured out all the aspects of access connections.

So, I guess I can say that I like Power Manager.

As far as fan noise goes, I assume you mean the noise when the fan runs fast.  Laptops are getting faster and faster and people are opening many windows, watching 3 movies at once, a monitor and a tv going.  That equates to heat.  More heat faster fan.  If the fan didn't run, the laptop would burn up.  After 3 to 6 months the fan gets dust caked on it the intake for th... Im trying to do a Clean Install on my Thinkpad Yoga S1, everytime I get an error "windows cannot be installed to this disk" What do I need to do in order to fix this problem?

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga Wont Install Windows 7

Is there more to the error message?  Perhaps "...the selected disk is of the gpt partition style"

If so, you're booted in legacy mode but trying to install to a GPT drive.

Re-start the installer, hit SHIFT+F10 to bring up a command window, then type DISKPART.  Once diskpart is running type "list disk" then "select disk xyz" where xyz is your HDD as displayed by list.  Then type "clean".  Then "exit" and close the command window.

That should un-initialize the drive and allow the installer to format it MBR style.

Alternatively you could boot in UEFI mode and install Win 7 on the GPT-formatted drive.

The current configuration of my system (as bought) is 4Gb RAM.  According to the specifictions, it is upgradable to 8Gb.  I had a conversation with Sales Support via Chat trying to find the correct part number for 8Gb memory to replace the 4Gb.  I was told that as my system is still under warranty, I would need to contact Technical Support for this to happen.  Having done a number of searches on this forum, would I be right in suspecting that the existing 4Gb is soldered in to place - hence the need for a Warranty call to upgrade.  I was advised that any attempt to make the change myself would void the warranty.Any thoughts please.

Just find an 8GB stick with those specs.

Hi,

You don't need to know the key.  It will be picked up during install automatically as long as you're installing the same version that shipped with the machine.  Either Lenovo or Microsoft media will work.

The key is not required during reset, nor is it required when installing from Microsoft media.

Since I've installed Windows 10 on my ThinkPad Yoga S1 (20C0-S0AX00), I've never been able to get audio via HDMI working. In theory, it looks like it's all fine: ? In practice, however, no audio is transmitted via HDMI (I tried it with different monitors), and the video signal of any application trying to play audio over HDMI is stuttering ? as if it's trying to sync audio and video, but failing for some reason. As soon as the output device is changed, the video plays smoothly again. Changing the "Default Format" did not change anything. Currently, "16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD quality)" is selected. A support ticket I opened quickly after upgrading to Windows 10 promised a driver update to fix this. A more recent ticket advised me to revert to the stock Windows 8.1 installation instead, which I refuse to do. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this issue?

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga S1 - No sound via HDMI on Windows 10

Hi

I have a different Thinkpad Yoga. Checking your issue I wonder if you would like to do some "trial and error" like:

1) Try a different HDMI cable, you never know.
2) Check the driver version of you Intel Display Audio. Here it is mine:
?
3) Just in case check the Lenovo Support site for your model and try updating the Intel Video and Realtek drivers just in case.

This is only that cames to my mind right now.

My Thinkpad Yoga 14 is now basically a standalone CPU, and not a laptop/tablet since my Windows 10 upgrade.  The speakers did not work -- that was easy to fix.  The keyboard on the laptop will not work, and the tablet will not rotate.  I have tried so many suggestions to fix it, but it is now rendered just a cpu with external keyboard, mouse and monitor.  This is very disappointing.  Any ideas on how to fix the keyboard and tablet rotation features?

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga: Plugged in not charging. Windows 8.1

Hi I have had the same problem - got my Thinkpad Yoga on the 2/1/14. Windows 8.1 OS. The initial power management option in 'Lenovo settings' when I installed the OS provided for an option to 'Automatically optimize for battery life? - which I have just read elsewhere was supposedly removed as it had issues with Windows 8.1 (I could not agreee more) and got it resolved myself through some trial and error and retesting to prove the bug was repeatable for my own peace of mind as to the cause of the error. The only reason I am telling you the above is because you might have got yourself where you are by doing what I did - and that reverting out is not as simple as turning off that 'Automatically optimize for battery life? back to 'Full power'. I assume the 'Lenovo settings' software is dynamically provided over the internet, because that 'Automatically optimize for battery life? power menu option has now (fortunately) gone missing in the past 36 hours. HOWEVER, as I am having numerous OS blue screen of death issues, I reloaded the OS from scratch off the recovery drive to try and stabilise the OS and experienced the exact same issue with the machine not recharging after the OS was reinstalled. My best guess is that they have progammed the same power management bug into the recovery disk. Here is how I got it charging again... 1. So I've had this Yoga 12 for about 3 moths now. In the past month, after I installed a new windows update, the touchpad and trackpoint would not work, like it was disabled. I tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling-- did not work. I even reset the computer. STILL DID NOT WORK. So I ran the driver verifier which told me that the one of Lenovo products had problem with it--I don't remember which one-- so I uninstalled it. Still didn't work. After all that, I tried for the last time to uninstall the synaptics drive. When I uninstalled it... it was still there! I don't know how, but it was still there and now the touchpad and trackpoint both works. Well, sporadically. It will work for a few minutes, then won't work for a few minutes (or more). So.. that's where I am now (actually, right now, as I am writing this, only the trackpoint is working. oop nvm it stopped working). Any thoughts on how to fix this problem? Thanks! Also, when the touchpad & trackpoint works, the windows buttons are more condensed, while when it doesn't work, the buttons are more spread out (see below links). "condensed""spread out" p.s. also, does anybody's computer lag severely when you press the CapsLock button?? Which kind of disables the keyboard for a solid 7 seconds???

Hi, After upgrade to Windows 10 I noticed a major bug in touchpad driver. If you turn on TPY (from complete shutdown or sleep/hibernation), while leptop is tilted to one side, then the touchpad works in right angle to the regular finger movements. The incorrect movement of pointer will not resolve unless you turn on TPY again in a complete horizontal setting. The bug is only seen in Windows 10 and I did not have this bug in Windows 8.1. I'm using the latest driver: Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver Version 19.0.17. 2 Anybody tried this so far?I wish Lenovo solve the issue soon. Thanks,Amir

Hi Can you check the Windows "Device Manager" and see if by any chance is there a device that is not recognize or does not has the correct drivers? I have a Thinkpad Yoga 14 and there is a driver that detects if it on laptop or slate mode. When it came to driver I always try:1)"System Update" utility from Lenovo. If you do not have it already installed check it here. 2) The Intel Driver Update Utility,. to update Intel drivers. AMD has his own tool. (Under your own risk) 3) If you have experience installing drivers on Windows. I found it very usefull to use DriverEasy. It offers good enought (freeware) driver recognition of the things installed on your machine. But please notice that installing the wrong driver may screw things up. (Under your own risk) Remember that Intel Driver Update Utility and DriverEasy are not supported by Lenovo, this is only a suggestion to try to get the latest driver for your machine. Regards

Answer:Memory upgrade Thinkpad Yoga 11e Windows 8.1

http://thinkpads.com/support/hmm/hmm_pdf/tp_11e_yoga11e_hmm_en_sp40f29949.pdfThis seems to say there's one stick of socketed RAM.The bottom cover and the memory module are both marked as "optional-service CRU", so you won't really void warranty by replacing it yourself. The required RAM specification is this: PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600MHz SODIMM. Just find an 8GB stick with those specs.

I updated to Windows 10 last night on my brand new TPY 14 and afterwards the keyboard, trackpad and trackpoint don't work. In fact, as far as I can tell, only the function key works -- at least, turning on the keyboard backlight (fn-space) does. I've tried updating drivers but it says it's up to date. The Device Manager says the keyboard is working fine but it says that "Thinkpad UltraNav" cannot start (code 10), with this explanation: "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API". Can anyone  give my any suggestions on this? It's pretty frustrating to have the keyboard die less than a day after buying the computer.

Did you update your BIOS before upgrading to Windows 10? There's an entry that vaguely says "Core update to supprot windows 10."http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...At this point, I'd recommend using the bootable ISO instead of flashing from within Windows:http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...Which you should be able to put on a flash drive instead:http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/BIOS_Upgrade#Booting_from_a_USB_Flash_drive

Hello I bought a Yoga X1 last year and it was working fine until about 3 weeks ago. For unknown reasons - possibly because of some Windows 10 update or because I installed a "nightly built" of the VLC video player the touchscreen stopped working. Windows 10 could not find a driver anymore (claiming that the driver it found is not suitable for this version of windows or womething like that). Same happened with the Lenovo driver for the device from the Lenovo website. I always hat the device marked yellow and "not working properly" in the device manager. I finally found in a forum aomeone pointing to a different driver for the Xoga X1's Wacom device and installed it. Now it shows up in the Device manager without Problems, but I still have no touch functionality. I deinstalled VLC alread and updated Win 10 again - still no luck. do I need some additional driver to connect the device that is recognized in the Device manager with Windows 10 somehow? Or activate it? I booted from a USB rescue stick for Win 10 and there the touch functionality was ok - so its not a hardware issue! Thank you.

Hi, First post, I hope this is the correct spot, this is more Windows10 rather than X1 Yoga specific per se... If I reset Windows 10 from the recovery partition, will this include ALL the software included when I first received the laptop (including any Lenovo add ons)?  In other words, does it reset Windows to *exactly* the way it was when I received it from the factory?  I need the details on how Lenovo sets up the recovery partition. I haven't had the laptop long, and I'm happy to reinstall what little I've done since receiving it (mainly Office 365). (More details:  I'm setting it up to dual boot Windows and Linux.  I want to fix the bootloader partition.  There are other approaches I could use, but am happy to reset Windows as long as Lenovo has set the recovery partition to be identical to factory settings.  I'll create a recovery disk and system backup after I do the reset, so I have additional options in the future.)

I just bought my yoga 12 thinkpad with windows 10 and the mouse has just stopped working/disappears. i have tried messing with the drivers, and I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Point Device Driver from Synoptics multiple times. Its giving me a code 10 on the driver (I believe meaning it can't talk to the rest of the computer) and everytime I try to update the drivers nothing happens (i think because I just downloaded the driver off the website). Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks,  Patrick

I am having issues with bluetooth using windows 8.1. Windows can find and pair my device but only stays connected for a few seconds. The installed driver that came on the pc is: *Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R) 4.0 + HS Adapter - version 3.1.1307.360* I have noticed that on the intel website the latest driver is: *BT_3.1.1311_e164.exe* although they recommend that I use the drivers provided by lenovo. Do lenovo have a fix for this issue or are you planning to release the new drivers? My system information is: Thinkpad S1 Yogawindows 8.1 pro 64bit (was pre installed)Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 (with bluetooth) any help will be appreciated.

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga bluetooth not functioning on windows 8.1

I'm having the same issues with my ThinkPad Yoga - I have installed the latest drivers from Lenovo, but my Bluetooth will drop after a few minutes and I have to either restart bluetooth or sometimes restart the laptop to get it connected again. Thoughts?

Hi! Just entered the community as i recently bought a lenovo thinkpad S1 yoga. i am very satisfied with it overall, but right now there is one thing that bothers me. It came preinstalled with windows 7. Now, i did get recovery CDs with windows 8, but i do not currently have an external DVD to make use of them. Now, my first thought was that there must be a way of installing windows 8 without the discs, because of the windows 8 sticker at the bottom of the Unit that basically says it has (had) windows 8 at some point, but i havent yet found a solution.Would anyone know how to move on from this point? except from bying the external dvd-reader and use the CDs? cheers

Hi,

When I connect Thinkpad Yoga (model 20CD00B1US) to the onelink dock, the stylus stops working.

In order to enable the stylus and Wacom driver following 2 options/ workarounds:
1)  Manually stop and restart the Wacom ISD Service
2) or reboot the machine while the Onelink dock is attached.

I'm using the latest 7.2.0-4 Wacom driver version, all latest lenovo software installed installed on the machine.

Both above mentioned workarounds are ugly, does anybody have a better suggestion to fix this issue?

Had the same issue - a BIOS update just release about a week ago fixed it for me.

Hi all,  This is my first time writing here, but I have been browsing through the forums for a few months and these helped me solving most of my issues. Kudos to you all. I recently upgraded my Yoga 2 pro to Win 10, and everything works smooth, except for the energy manager. When I open it I can use it in the basic mode with no issues at all (switching between energy modes works ok).   However, when I click the upper right button to show more settings, (mostly to change the charging plan for my battery and so) the program freezes, and does nothing but consuming about 20% of my CPU.  Back in Win 8.1 I used to toggle between max60% conservation mode, or quick charge deppending on what I would need. Now I cannot use this anymore. I am using the latest version available on the support website (1.0.1.51) and Win10 system updates are all up to date. Any help would be really appreciated. Greetings!

Hi all, I'm running Windows 10 64-bit and while I have no issues, I have Lenovo Energy Manager installed. I'm wondering if I should keep it or if it is unnecessary with Windows 10? Is it helping me? It's version 1.0.1.51. Is there a newer version of this (even if not officially supporting Yoga 2 Pro) that is better?  Thanks.

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro (Core i7) - Windows 10 64-bit - Keep Energy Manager?

There are some things that it does that makes the PC run more efficient, I would keep it. Not necessary to keep it running, but definetely something great to have

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

Answer:Where Is Power Manager for Thinkpad E440 on Windows 8.1

Good day and welcome to the community.

ThinkVantage Power Manager has not been supported since Win7. There are reports in the community of members seemingly making it work, but it isn't sanctioned. There are also discussions on how to set charging thresholds via registry edits. Please exercise due caution if you choose to pursue this.

Regards.
