I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lenovo Thinkpad Twist s230u 3317U battery issues...

Hey there shiv309,

There is an excellent thread by CT809, that led to a solution for this very problem.

Re-installed Lenovo Settings Dependency Package and the Power Management Driver, then when I rebooted and went into Lenovo Settings, this option popped up. Ensure that its placed to "fully charge".

Hopefully this solves the issue for other users going forward.

I hope this gets your Battery issue solved shiv309, and I look forward to hearing back from you on your progress!

There is nothing on the Internet that I found to document the exact process to remove and replace the internal battery on the Twist. So, wen the battery died on my Twist I video taped ow I did it. I made some mistakes, read the description, but I am creating this post on it now, I have an operational battery and the computer seems no worse for the amateur wear. This is not a video series that is endorsed by anyone nor should it be a replacement for professional service. Do not attempt! Do not consume. Recycle as your state and country law's dictate. The Subject sort of explains itself, however I will add some more infromation for convenience sake: Generally speaking I think of myself as fairly knowlageble about computers and their hardware. When it comes to laptops however I'm not so knowlagable, thus I would like to get a professional oppinion on the subject of SSD for laptops. So I'm thinking of getting a Crucial m500 SSD (I'm so happy with my older m4 that I have full confidence in it's stability and speed) with 240GB of storage space, it comes in both mSATA and in the regular 2.5" x 7mm format. Thus I ask wheter or not to choose 2.5" or mSATA for my Thinkpad s230u Twist. It already has a 500Gb  Hitachi harddrive provided originaly by Lenovo, thus if I choose the mSATA I would be able to have a total of 740Gb of fast and reliable storage. What are your oppinions on such an installation? should I just go for mSATA or choose the regular 2.5" format? Rainmaker91 P.S: I should probably just inform that Lenovos solutions is not an option due to it's extreme price and the drives beeing outdated. Also I don't need the Lenovo warranty and support due to the "Warranty" provided by law in my country.

Answer:mSATA or 2.5" SSD for Lenovo Thinkpad s230u Twist?

Hello,

I personally would go with the mSATA SSD.  Although it might be a little slower in synthetic benchmarks because it uses less flash RAM chips?using many of those in parallel is what gives SSDs their high read and write rates?in real world usage it will be faster than any conventional rotating media disk drive.

You can then use the 500GB Hitachi HDD for data storage, less-frequently-used programs, backups and so forth.  When you are ready, you can replace that with a conventional 2.5" (but 7mm high) SSD and use the S230u as solely solid-state ultrabook.  Of course, you could then get an external 2.5" USB 3.0 hard disk drive enclosure and continue to use the Hitachi disk drive for backups.

Hey all, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Twist s230u with a 24GB SSD and 320GB HDD. Recently my pc had boot repair problems, and I had to reinstall windows 10. Thinking that this was the original location, I reinstalled windows 10 on the 24GB SSD using diskpart commands to reformat the SSD to ntfs, and removed the original windows 10 from the HDD. I also reformatted both hard drives as part of a clean install. Now I've done some research and found out that the 24GB SSD isn't meant to be used as a boot drive for windows 10 and is instead meant to be used as an SSD cache. After looking up how to perform SSD caching, I found that Lenovo used ExpressCache as the software to cache the SSD; however, it seems that the software doesn't provide support to this laptop in windows 10, only on windows 8.1. So my question therefore is, is there any other way for me to use this 24GB SSD as a cache? or perhaps ExpressCache software still works even though Lenovo Twist isn't included in the windows 10 version? Also, if I ended up just keeping the OS in the 24 GB SSD and using as a boot drive what would happen? Or am I SOL with this 24GB SSD?Thanks,

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Twist s230u SSD Cache Windows 10

Hello,

Lenovo does offer a version of ExpressCache for Windows 10 on its support web site, and it does list the ThinkPad S230u as a supported device:

Name:  ExpressCache Software for Windows 10 (64bit) - Laptop, ThinkCentre
URL:  http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds104444

This was for the initial release (RTM, Build 10240) of Windows 10 back in 2015, but it may still work with the current version (Build 15063) of Windows 10.

Hello all, I'm desperate here. I purchased my Twist from eBay and from that time I've had a battery issue. I was only getting approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes off a full charge before it died. I mostly just tolerated it and had to keep close to an outlet as I assumed the battery was just bad. In the last week I decided to do someting about it and bought a replacement battery, opened up my laptop, and replaced the old battery with the new one. Hopeful that my problem had now been remedied, you can imagine my disappointment when the issue was even slightly worse. Now I get an estimated 1:06 on a full charge. I installed BatteryBar and it tells me "Capacity: 13,870 mWh of 14,060 mWh" and "Battery Wear: 66.9% of 42,480 mHw". I'm running Windows 8.1. I've replaced the original hard drive with an SSD. I've installed the "Lenovo Settings Dependency Program" and "Lenovo Power Management Driver". I've tried changing power settings. Nothing works. A one hour battery life is just miserable. Can anyone provide some insight as to what may be done? I'd appreciate it.

Does anybody know, whether this Thinkpad can be used with Windows 7? E.g. has anybody tried the downgrade?

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad Twist S230u 3347-29G - Win 7 installation / Downgrade

Hey there sat99,

I've read a few posts of various people installing Windows 7 on their Twist., with varied results. One person I could recommend you speaking with is watersong. In his post, he described having a great deal of success with few issues. That thread can be found here.

If I may, any particular reason your considering the downgrade? And have you considered a dual boot options?

Hello guys,We just purchased about 7 of these twist with i7's and i opened up the first one and the touch screen flat out doesn't work at all. I've tried restarting, ran all the updates, no luck at all. It almost feels like it doesn't have a touch screen, but not according to the specs. Please advise Thank you Jake

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Twist S230U Touch Screen Not Working

Hello,

A few questions, in no particular order:

Are these new ThinkPad Twist S230u's?  Refurbished ones?  Old ones?
Can you let us know the machine type from the bottom of the unit(s)?  That's the part on the label that looks like 4321-XYZ (not the serial number, though --please don't post that online)
Did you purchase them directly from Lenovo?  If not, where did you get them from?
What operating system(s) are the S230u's running?

With the answers to those questions, I'm sure some of the forum members will be able to assist you in troubleshooting this further.

Hello. I am sending my S230u laptop by air to a Lenovo service station to get its HDD replaced. One of their requirements is to remove the battery from the laptop since it is considered a 'hazardous' material. Is it actually possible to remove the battery off an S230u? I've been searching online and it appears you can only disable the battery. Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you for your time.

The battery is not charging to 100% after the update. It charges to 99% then keeps charging for hours without getting to 100%. I have tried the Lenovo Settings Battery Guage Reset, Windows Power Options and smacking the slide of the display(yep). It may have something to do with the display not shutting off when it is shecduled to after inactivity. I have another post on here detailing trying Lenovo Settings and Companion, I am just lost. Companion has no further updates for the Twist, so I hope I can get some ideas from y'all. Any ideas? Sam

I have recently started a new job and the company have purchased me a Thinkpad S230u. I have it hooked up to two screens and running it with the lid closed. I am also running through a thinkpad docking station. When the appliance goes to sleep it takes 10-15 seconds to awaken and present the log in screen. This happens regardless of being attached to the docking station and/or connected to a power supply. I have also checked that the Hybrid mode is switched off in the power options but still taking a very long time. Any tips on fixing this? Thanks in advance.

This particular model has two of these indicators, one on the back of the lid, and another next to the keyboard. The one next to the keyboard still works fine, but the one on the back of the lid stopped working altogether in the past day or so. This laptop is only a month old, so I suspect it's a software malfunction and not faulty hardware. It would be nice to get this handy little feature back. Thanks!

take the hdd out and start the laptop without the hdd, if the LED light doesn't come on then you have a hardware problem.

I'm new to the laptop scene (always had built desktops and a tablet). For the most part I love my ThinkPad, except 2 things. The soldered RAM, and the fan is loud. I've read Lenovo factory clocks fan settings slightly higher than other manufacturers, and that increased noise can be appreciated. My problem is the slight rattling or uneven hum that the machine emits. That just sounds like a cheap fan. My question is about the availability of laptop replacement parts. Since my 4gb of RAM is soldered to the m-board, can I, or possibly in the future, buy a new motherboard with 8gb of RAM soldered on? I've read the battery is not replacable as well? If so is it attached to the moboard as well. Then replacing the whole thing could be the triple threat upgrade down the road when my battery life is diminishing! Any experience on the matter is appreciated!Elle

So I have a Thinkpad Twist S230u and I recently updated it to Windows 10. After 3 days, I turn it on again and a black screen just goes through. I replaced the hard drive with a Terabyte of SSD but it does not turn on?? No sound is made. When the old hard drive was in there, everytime I pressed the power button, a small "zzzz" sound is played from inside the computer.  Assuming the computer is dead, and it is also out of warrarnty, should I sell it for spare parts? How much should I list it? I spent a 1000 dollars on this computer and dont want it to go to waste after i bought it in 2014.

WWAN 3G modem is optional upgrade, but it occupies the same slot as the mSATA. As far i know, if you have Win 8 and platter hdd, the WWAN slot would have a 24 gigs or 32 gis mSATA card in it. Widi is supported on the Intel wireless-n 2200 wireless card.http://www.thinkscopes.com/lenovo-thinkpad-edge-twist-review/i this review a while back, not the most detail since i only had a very brief look at the machine.

First, I will clarily that this post it not related to other posts where either: users have complained about their laptops not powering n after  going to sleep; orwere looking for infomation on how to configure the laptop to run with the lid closed. My set up: ThinkPad s230u 3347-CT0 on a Lenovo Easy Reach Monitor stand with the lid closed and connected to an ASUS 23.6" monitor via mini HDMI on the Twist.  I am running Windows 8.0 and have gone into the Control Panel > Power Options and set the Close Lid action to Do Nothing. Everything is functioning as I would expect until I try to turn the laptop on after it has been completely powered off.  Once powered off and the lid closed, when I press the power button on the right side of the laptop screen to power on, nothing happens.  Because the laptop lid is closed and tucked nicely under where the monitor sits on the monitor stand, I have to lift the laptop lid about two inches, press the power button on the laptop, and then close the lid again. This is not a huge inconvenience but I thought I would see if anyone had experienced the same issue and found a resolution. I should note that I am not looking to purchase a docking station/port replicator. Thanks. -------------------- ** UPDATE **A temporary solution was to twitst my screen so that it is in tablet mode and then output to the external screen only - I also covered the screen with a cleaning cloth that came ... With the new hard drive I now have performed the 3rd clean install, including one off the recovery files in the computer (was not aware of that funtion at first), with both 32-bit and 64-bit varieties, but I have been left every time without the touch-screen functionality of the system. Hello, I own a thinkpad twist s230u (3347 4HU) purchased 3 weeks ago. From the moment I turned it on, it has a major issue. The cursor goes on the right side of the screen, it flashes and it opens windows and applications itself whether it runs on desktop or on tablet mode. The problem appears every time I use the laptop and I can?t do anything. I can?t  write text anywhere due to the cursor flashing. Also most of the times that cursor flashes, the screen jitters too! I updated the bios system to 1.57 version so as most of the rest software including Atmel touch controller firmware update tool, Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver, Auto Scroll Utility and many others. I also ran linux ubuntu from a usb flash memory but the problem still existed. So it is not a windows 8 or a driver failure. I noticed that few times when i  turn around the screen or I change screen?s angle, then the problem temporarily subsides for less than a minute. I am very disappointed and frustrated. I never expected to buy a Lenovo product with such a problem. Could anyone help me?

Answer:Thinkpad twist s230u - unknown devices

Hey there rpjonny,

This seems to be an ongoing issue with a few machines, and may be related to some the problems that are going on in this thread.

If you will, go to the Device manager. You will need to make the Unknown Devices visible, they will only show on Device Manager if Show Hidden Devices is checked. From here, run the system update on the solution center once more. This should identify them or give some indication to what they are. From the thread listed, as well as a few other threads, it seems that this is tied to the WiDI offered by Intel on some of the WiFi cards. It would be prudent to then go to the Intel and use their Intel Driver Update Utility. Hopefully this helps you.

The problem is that when the computer turns on, it makes a loud series of 5 beeps, followed by a pause, and then 5 more loud beeps. Additionally, the auto-rotate feature is horrible and doesn't seem to work. Everything else works fine. However, I read in your community that I should update the BIOS to resolve both the beeping issue as well as the auto-rotate issue. I tried updating the BIOS using the Windows 8.1 Utility to do so, however it fails at the READ step. On your community, someone said that there is a Security setting that can be disabled in BIOS to get rid of the beeps. However, I'm also finding that if I try to load the BIOS settings (Press Enter at the Lenovo screen, press F1), the screen simply displays black and nothing ever comes up, therefore I can't get to BIOS settings to do anything. I should mention that I'm not using an external display in this scenario, as I realize that sometimes external displays are not able to display the BIOS due to low resolution. Summary: Loud Beeps & Terrible Auto-Rotate, Can't Update BIOS, Can't get into BIOS to change settings, everything else is working okay. Ideas? OS: Windows 8.1

I have an older s230u Thinkpad Twist that I barely use anymore because it has become abysmally slow.  I just want something lightweight to take to work with me other than my 17.3 inch Alienware beast that always gets wicked stares, and weighs over 20lbs in the backpack with the PSU.   A couple years ago I freshly installed Windows 10 removing all previous partitions, installations etc.  In the past I have always been **bleep** about imaging new PCs with Acronis, but some reason I cannot find the original image on my dozens of external HDDs I have laying around.   I have multiple questions regarding this: FIrst, the 24gb inlcluded ssd - Since I did a bare windows installation on the main drive, with no original drivers/bloatware left in the laptop, is this drive even functioning anymore? How do I know?  How does it even work? (I am not very savvy on the whole "hybrid" thing)  Microcenter has a 256GB mSATA drive for $70, if I put this in, will it even do anything, and how do I get it to function?  I would just assume store/run my entire system on this drive if it were possible.  I see it  in the disk management when I open it up, but no idea how it is actually working, if it is even working.   I have been able to take the laptop apart enough to find the HDD/SSD slot and the mSATA slot, so the harware installation is not a problem for me.   Would I be better off replacing the main mechanical HDD... This is a strange problem:  I have a touch-screen Windows 8 that came insalled on my Thinkpad Twist Ultrabook S230u. To turn it off, I have to swipe the right edge of the screen to pull out a settings menu; then I must touch-select the power-off option.  Suddenly, I'm unable to draw out the menu from the right side of the screen.  (1) How do I get the menu to emerge and (2) is there an alternate way to turn off my computer? Thanks for any help/advice for this odd problem!

Hello everyone, So, I recently bought a ThinkPad Twist (specifically the 33472GU, even though outlet said 3347XF4) from the outlet to upgrade the laptop that I take to class and I have to make a few questions that I hope get answered. I haven't really seen much attention paid to this particular device and it saddens me to see the lack of attention that it has seen. In particular, I would have liked to see more response and helpfulness from Lenovo staff to address these concerns, but if anyone else has input, please let me know. Here is my list: 1.) It is true when they say the battery doesn't last long. I can barely squeeze 3/4 hours out of it depending on what I am doing. This is considering that I turned many of the settings down and even turned off things like bluetooth and windows 8 effects. How can Lenovo advertise 6/7 hours on this thing? No, my battery is not dead, in fact, it came with 46 mWh charge, better than what it was designed for (42 mWh). So I don't want to get sent to technical support to "fix" it. I want an honest answer and indication from staff that this issue is being taken seriously and addressed. 2.) With the above being said, is there a definitive answer from anyone about how I can extend my battery life to at least 5 hours without crippling the machine? I'm not willing to turn EVERYTHING off. That defeats the purpose of having bought the twist in the first place. 3.) Does anyone know when the Haswell version of the device is c... Read more

Answer:ThinkPad Twist s230u important questions regarding performance

I think our estimate of 3-4 hours of battery life is closer to real world if you are actively using the computer. From the many forum posts, I have come to believe that the only way to exceed 5 hours is to replace the hard drive with an SSD.  I have gotten such good performance after reinstalling from scratch and getting the msata working that it is hard for me to justify the $200 for extra battery life and the annoying pauses when the harddrive shock sensor is triggered. For me, this was a "you get what you paid for" situation.  I would have liked 8G of RAM and the i7 processor, but the i5 is acceptable.  The only way I think you will be satisfied is if you go SSD instead of the HD.  Good luck.

I have been trying to update my nearly year old Twist's BIOS since I have been having issues with random screen autorotation, and I also have the 5 beeps, pause, 5 beeps issue at boot up (it otherwise boots fine). When I run the Lenovo Flash BIOS Utility, either on its own or from within System Update, it cannot read the BIOS and eventually aborts. I downloaded the Bootable CD version, burned the ISO to first a USB flash drive and later a conventional CD, and neither worked.  I did reset the BIOS settings to legacy mode and turned Secure Boot off, and changed the boot order in order to get it to boot to the right media.  My system is trying to boot from the media as configured but is stating it is not bootable.  I followed the instructions on Lenovo's official drivers page to ensure I was doing it correctly. I'm currently running BIOS version 1.53 and Windows 8.1 Pro Preview. Any ideas?

Answer:Problems updating BIOS in Thinkpad Twist (s230u)

Solved the 5 beep issue by disabling the security chip in the BIOS. Still can't update the BIOS. I'm having issues with random screen autorotation, usually but not always in tablet mode, so I would like to update the BIOS. I'm getting Error 216 - can't read the BIOS. Anyone?

Hello, Several days ago my Lenovo Thinkpad Twist suddenly stopped connecting to the internet. I was at the cafe using my phone hotspot and everything was fine, but then when I got back home, it could not detect any wireless networks in my house. I thought it may have just been my wi-fi but my phone could connect to the wi-fi just fine. I tried plugging in my phone again for personal hotpot and it could detect my phone, but no longer connect to the internet (it'd say that it's connected, but no pages would load). I tried rebooting my computer, but the wireless networks still could not be found and my phone's hotspot could no longer help it connect to the internet. I tried a Malwarebytes Scan but that didn't detect anything, and my McAfee virus scanner is not gonna help me find anymore viruses (long story as to why I don't have a better virus protection). Can't really install any updates since I can't connect to the internet at all...rebooted several times to no avail... Any sort of help or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much! Sincerely,Ingrid

I have a new s230u just received it 2 days ago and after about half a day the Charm bar stopped appearing while using swipe on touch (keyboard shortcut and mouse work fine).  Updated drivers, bios and received no help from tech support.  Attempted to calibrate touchpad then realized Microsoft states this calibration tool is intended for calibrating pens and not to be used for touch panels.  MS recommended a reset of calibration setting which I performed and the Charm bar came back with swipe for about 5 minutes!  Back to the same issue...  I have exhausted everything and seems that others have had this issue for quite some time.  How do you use this thing in tablet mode without access to the Charm???  You can't and it seems that Lenovo engineering should be addressing this issue.  Any suggestions before I return the machine for a refund?   Thanks!

I recently got a refurbished ThinkPad Twist, and I was having issues with lagging - everything was taking forever, both web-based and local. Kept monitoring performance and nothing seemed amiss with memory or processing, nothing wrong with my internet connection. After a little digging I found that using Lenovo Solution Center solved my problem - it prompted me to update the BIOS, there was some kind of update related to power management, and there were some Windows patches. As soon as I did that everything was running as smooth as silk. Seems a little shady the refurb people wouldn't have done those updates since they came out before I got the laptop, but whatever, just glad I got it solved. I thought I was going to have to try a factory reset but no! I just wanted to share here since I spent a ridiculous amount of time winding my way through the labyrinthine Lenovo website, when all I had to do was go to Start and type "update." So if, like me, you're pissed off that your brand-new-to-you machine is faulty, do yourself a favor and try that first and see where it gets you. You can also do a hardware scan through Lenovo Solution Center - which it seems like if you just got a refurbished machine and the hardware scan didn't come out clean that would be a tip-off that they didn't do their due diligence in testing it.

Hello Together, I got a new Lenovo Thinkpad Twist S230u and want to install windows 8 without all preinstalled Software. But i cannot find any Recovery Disc/Partition and there is no Registration Key for Windwos 8 in the Package.... So, how can I extract the clean Windwos 8 Image to take it on an USB Stick and how do i get the Windows 8 Key? It used to be so easy.... Thanks for your Help!

The key is embedded in the BIOS. You shouldn't need one.Anyway, you should be able to choose "Remove everything and reinstall Windows" from the start screen. Is easier... Only different.Cheers.

Hi, My Thinkpad Twist does not display anything when turned on except on external monitors. The Device manager shows a greyed out internal display icon, says it is not connected. 1. Could this be the power connect ribbon cable p/n DC002C003W00 have a fractured wire(s)? I have tested for open circuit between PWR1 and PWR2 connectors and there are 4 sequential pins which are open circuit. Is this normal? 2. The touch screen works 3. There appears to be absolutely no LED backlighting working 4. Is there a possible fix for this and if so is it the power cables or some physical problem with the ribbon cables OR is it definitely a new display that is needed using existing cables? Thanks in advance Andrew

Answer:Thinkpad Twist s230U no internal display, works on...

The last 4 pins on the connector are unused I have determined so it is not the power ribbon cable connector. I found two wires fractured in the LCD ribbon cable right at the point where it feeds through the twist mount. I expect this could be a common problem after use. After repairing these two wires it did not fix the screen problem. I have ordered a replacement LDVS ribbon cable and will report back once I have replaced that.

I am having the opposite problem with my Thinkpad Twist s230u that most people are having with this laptop. Currently I have the power button assigned to "sleep" when plugged in or not. I find that when I press the power button, the computer indeed goes to sleep. However, at seemingly random times I find that it will power itself back on and waste battery until the battery level becomes critical, and it shuts down on its own due to low battery. I have observed this occur both when the laptop is just sitting on a table with the lid shut, opened, or when shut inside of a bag.  I have already installed the new BIOS update and power driver update mentioned in a previous post by another user, but the issue still occurs.  Let me know if there's more info needed to solve this!

I have the same issue after updating to BIOS 1.68, but never before.System is set to go to the hibernate after 15 minutes of sleep, but that's not when it wakes up. It happens over night or when it's in my bag for long time.

Is there an official list as to what Wireless Cards will work with the Lenovo Twist.  I know when they were sold you had two options of cards, and had to decide if you wanted the Intel which supported Miricast or the Broadcom version which supported 5Ghz. Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 & Bluetooth 4.0 (2x2 BGN & BT 4)Thinkpad a/b/g/n Wireless & Bluetooth 4.0 (2x2 ABGN & BT 4.0) Now there are Intel Cards out that support all of the above such as the Advanced-N 6235, but I can find no information if this or any other Intel cards will work with the Thinkpad Twist.  Any info would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi I have a Thinkpad Twist s230u and am having problems with connection of an external monitor/tv with an hdmi cable. The cable is brand new, as is the adaptor from hdm - hdmi-mini for the computer. I have turned on the tv and selected the correct hdmi input, then connected the hdmi-mini. when i right click on the desktop > screen resolution > detect; no displays are detected and i am left with only two options "Try to connect anyway on:VGA" and "Try to connect anyway on: Mobile PC display" neither of which do anything. It feels like this has got to do with an issue regarding the actual HDMI driver itself, but I'm not really sure what I'm looking for in this department. My graphics card is however updated and working correctly - Intel HD Graphics 4000. Can anyone offer any solutions? Thanks in advance.Chris

Answer:Thinkpad Twist s230u - problem with hdmi/external monitor

I'm having a similar problem. When I plug the HDMI cable into the laptop, the screen does a quick flash to black like normal, but there's no signal to the external monitor. After a few seconds, the monitor goes into "HDMI power saving mode." I've tried multiple cables, multiple adapters, and even tried hooking it up to an HDMI projection system at my office. Same result with everything--laptop acts like an external display has been connected, but there' s no picture at the destination. This used to work without a problem, so I don't know what's changed. I tried updating the display driver and even went back to Windows 8 and up to 8.1 again. Nothing. It's a huge problem because I travel and present for a living and some of the venues only have HDMI. I bought a minidisplay to HDMI adapter, but it would be nice to use the native port.

Hi there guys! First of all, it's my first time to post something here. Just recently purchased a Thinkpad Twist. However, after a few days, all of a sudden, I always get the error 2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HD). I'm not sure what exactly is the problem though because after a few minutes, when I restart, it'll load Windows 8 back and eventually after a few browsing and use of computer, will force restart stating there's a problem encountered, etc. Once it restarts, it gives the same 2100 error again. Please help me guys as I'm really frustrated. I can't seem to use the computer normally without force restart due to error and loading windows 8 thereafter due to 2100 error.

My twist has an issue with the trackpad. It has a clickpad and the lower part of it isn't very stable and can be pushed down easily and wobbles a bit. When I apply slight pressure to the bottom especially the left corner, it clicks, and sometimes even double or tripple clicks. Evem if I disable tapping this occurs so it is an issue with the clickpad. Its like not pressing down and feeling the click, just slightly touching the bottom so that the plastic goes a little bit downwards and it clicks twice even. This is extremely annoying. Overall I must say the touchpad of this computer feels very very cheap and sub par. Even my HP and ASUS netbooks have smaller but functional trackpads. Also when using the trackpad buttons at the bottom, the cursor will move slightly while pressing down the clickpad. Is there a mechanism or something that I can move in place below the touchpad to fix this?

Hi, This problem came from a long story...First, my s230u started having problem waking up after the BIOS update in late September, so I followed the others' suggestions from this forum to downgrade my BIOS.  The hybernate problem fixed.  However, my screen rotation button then failed to function.  I checked the BIOS update webpage and found there was an update 1.61 which could help to solve this rotation button problem, but (1) there was no link anymore for the version 1.61, and (2) I'm afraid if I update my BIOS to 1.61, the wake-up problem will occur again.  My laptop functioned perfectly before the BIOS update in September (the BIOS update was automatically downloaded and installed).  Please help!!!  Thanks.

But for some reason today I can't find it.I would real like some help! P.S.At the beginning any time the rotate works a message about it popped up, a few days ago I checked it so it won't show up again, is it related?

Answer:Rotate doesn't work in tent mode (Thinkpad twist s230u)

Hi Shamirhila,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that auto rotate doesn?t work properly in your Lenovo ThinkPad S230u.

Update BIOS and power management driver to the latest version as per the knowledgebase created by Cleo_Lenovo. Run Think Vantage system update to ensure that the entire system is updated.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

I want to install Windows 8 using my own partition configuration, meaning where I'd get a C and a D drive. On my other computers, this is what I have and I really like this configuration. I want to install Windows 8 on the C drive and have all my data on D. I have reformatted and partitioned the HDD to C and D. When I slot in Windows 8 Enterprise to install, I keep getting this message "We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one." What the machine keeps wanting is for me to delete both partitions and create its own partitions and I don't want this. I know it wants this because I have clicked delete of the partitions and looked to see what it would do. It ended up creating several of its own partitions (not at all how I want it). When I re-partitioned the drive back to C and D (2 partition config), it would repeat that same error message. Can someone please help tell me how do I install Windows 8 doing my own custom partition (C, D) where Win 8 is installed onto my choice of C and D is left for my data. Why does it keep saying, "We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one"? Is it a settings in BIOS that I need to change to enable me to use my own partition? If so, what setting? I have never had these issues installing Win 8 using the C & D partition config on 3 other computers (not Lenovo S230u Twist). Thanks for your help!!! :-)

Answer:Thinkpad Twist S230u: Clean Install - Windows 8 on Custom Partition

Hello LightspeedX! I glad you wrote this issue cause i still having the same problem (and questions). I decided to put everithing down on my s230u because it is quietly irritant see a last generation porcessor like the I7 on a top plataform ultrabook running so slowly like our thinkpad do. Since the embed software and the poor resource planning is the resposable for that issue, i really cant imagine why Lenovo decide to bring all this things up together at this device. I realize that any cheap I3 china device is more confortable and "quickly" to run any software than this machine in his original state (factory defaults), so i decid to try a brand new and clean installation of windows 8 or (perhaps) a dual boot configuration using a linux frindly distro like ubuntu. At my own risc, like the cusummer service like to say, i will erase all HD and start this "saga" (making a full hard copy first, of course and will soon bring any results i found here.   Some interesting urls:Ubuntu on Yoga Ideapadhttp://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Installing_Ubuntu_12.10_on_Thinkpad_Twisthttp://www.ubuntu.com/certification/make/Lenovo/http://it.nmu.edu/news-article/lenovo-twist-s230u-screen-orientation-issueshttp://nerdanswer.com/answer.php?q=50276 Untill i got there, i wish you lucky because i doubt you can found any anwers from the "big fans" of Lenovo or there oficial costumer services!!!! Best Regards, Nilson

my lenovo twist doesn't have a disc drive. I was trying to print something out and it wont recognize my printer(Lexmark x2600)  when I just plug it into the USB port (but it does make a noise if I connect or disconnect it). Every other computer that has used my printer is fine when I just plug it in, except this one. It says "one or more devices have problems" and when I click on it my only options are to pick my printer from a list (its not on it) or to insert the disc. I don't know why my laptop would tell me to insert a disc if there's no disc drive. I even tried clicking that in hopes that maybe there was another option on the next screen, but there wasn't.

I have a Lenovo Twist s230u, and after installing Linux Mint 17.3 I have experienced issues with the touchpad. TouchPad works fine in a warm boot (Restarting after OS loads), but in a cold boot the touchpad is non-functional.It's not just me, others have also reported the same problems after updating to the recent BIOS updates.http://www.linlap.com/lenovo_thinkpad_twist I am currently on BIOS version 1.71 and versions 1.52 and below do not cause the touchpad issues on Linux. I have tried running the 1.52 Bios update utility (In Windows) and allowing rollback in the BIOS settings.I get this error message after running the 1.52 BIOS utility:BIOS image file does not match this systemThe utility process has not completed The download page for the bios updates state that it is not possible to roll back after updating to 1.71. Is there any workaround for this to be able to downgrade to 1.52? Or will there be a new update that will fix these issues on Linux? Thanks!

Answer:Lenovo Twist s230u downgrade bios

Hi ultimate55

The BIOS 1.71 readme does not show good news about downgrading.
https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/gduj23uc.txt

It says:
CHANGES IN THIS RELEASE
Version 1.71

[Important updates]
- Fixed security vulnerability (LEN-2015-002 and other fixes).
(Note)
If the UEFI BIOS has been updated to version 1.71 or higher, it is no
longer able to roll back to the version before 1.71 for security
improvement.

[New functions or enhancements]
Nothing.

[Problem fixes]
Nothing.
Checking the log history of BIOS there are some Touchpad updates.

<1.58>
UEFI: 1.58 / ECP: 1.58
- (Fix) Fixed an issue of USB I/O memory leak which causes EFI application errors.
- (Fix) Fixed an issue of UEFI touchpad/trackpoint/keyboard/touchscreen.

<1.55>
UEFI: 1.55 / ECP: 1.55
- (Fix) Fixed an issue where the mouse cursor drifts in Tablet mode.
Sorry, I don't have  a solution, just some thoughts...

Maybe you can try to confirm the issue with other OSes, maybe you can boot from CD/USB other Linux versions to confirm that the error remains. Check out which other versions of Linux are afected with the changes on the BIOS if it applies and also try to find other Linux users of the same machine.

After that the only idea that cames into my mind is trying to escalate the issue with Lenovo support.

Regards

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Twist s230u-2hu with Windows 8. A text message appears often with the nameLenovo-24964.vbs.txt with the following content:  Set shellObject = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")resultCode = shellObject.Run ("""C:\ProgramData\Lenovo\SupportTVSU/SupportFeed.CMD""", 0, True)Set shellObject = NothingWScript.Quit resultCode What is this and how do I fix it? Thanks very much

Answer:Twist s230u error msg: Lenovo-24964.vbs.txt

Hi, bobzig

I am unsure as to what this error means and why it happens, but I was able to find another thread in the forums speaking about a similar issue. The user who originally posted the question had an issue exactly like yours, except the code at the top had a different number. The body of the text was the same, however. A Lenovo employee, someotherguy, offered assistance that worked for at least one of the users, so it may work for you as well.

Best of luck,
Adam

Hello, I have a Lenovo Twist (s230u) and need to do a system recovery. Unfortunately, neither the F11 option is working nor recovering from win 8 itself. I do not have a win8 disk (wasn't supply with the computer) ! The only option I guess is to get a win8 drive and do a clean install. Before I do this and reformat the drive, can someone tell me what to do with the different partition on the HDD and the SDD ? I see the disk is divided into multiple partitions... Even if I do a clean win 8 installation, what should I do about the 260 Mb, 1000Mb and 7 Gb partitions (EFI, recovery and recovery respectively) Are they necessary ?What about the SSD ? Technically I guess since it is separated, it shouldn't affected.Thank you Cyril

It is unclear exactly when the problem began, but there was a windows 10 update, then a bios update shortly before I noticed the problem.   The touchpad behaves erratically, selecting/unselecting or inserting text, allowing  little to no control of intended tapping actions.  Pointer features seem to work fine, erratic behavior involves tapping only.  I believe the bios is the most current version, and I have updated the touchpad driver.  It is not clear to me whether there is an issue with the bios or touchpad driver installation or software, or if the touchpad has failed.  Looking for help to figure out how to resolve the issue.

The hard drive for my Lenovo twist is in the process of its final few days of life so I was wondering since it only has one hard drive slot how I would get Windows onto to the new  hard drive since it lacks a cd rom.  Also will I have to pay for a new copy of windows at all becuase that would be pretty hilarious.

Answer:Lenovo Twist S230u Hard Drive Replacement

Hello and welcome,

Easiest - if your drive stays alive long enough - is to make a recovery flash drive and use that to restore to a new drive.

Methodology to create Recovery Media and reload a Lenovo system with Microsoft Windows 8 preload

If you have a MS Win 8 install DVD of the matching version you can just copy the contents to a FAT32-formatted flash drive and use that for a clean install.  The license is in BIOS and shoud be picked up.  (CAVEAT: I've done installs from flash, but not verified that the license is picked up.)

Note that the copy-to-flash install works for MS media but not for Lenovo recovery DVDs.

Worst case: use a USB DVD drive.  Worst, worst case: purchase recovery DVDs from Lenovo support _and_ use an external drive.

Hey, I recently installed Windows 10 on the 24GB SSD on my Lenovo Twist s230u and am using the other 320GB HDD as storage. I've read elsewhere that this is a bad idea as it can mess up your computer and that the SSD should only be used as a cache. However, I have yet to run into any problems with the current setup, and the only problem I can foresee happening is not having enough space to do updates on the OS, though Windows 10 offers a workaround by sticking in a USB flash drive. Are there any other problems that could happen if I continue to use the SSD as a boot drive NOTE: The 24GB SSD is a seperate drive from the 320 HDD and not a hybrid.

I have an S230u Twist.  After upgrading to Win 10 I have the following outstanding issues:  The most problematic is that after the upgrade I have an issue with the unit going to sleep. Upon waking, the screen brightness resets to about 5%.  It doesn't do this all the time but often enough be irritating.  I've turned off adaptive brightness but this doesn't help.  I've run System File Checker which made some fixes to corrupt files and this helped somewhat.  Lenovo Solutions Center reports that the Power Management Software is not installed even though I 've upgraded the Power Management driver with the Win 10 version.  I'm at a loss to know what to check next to fix this.

The other issue concers the start menu - the "Most Used"  doesn't seem to update with the Most Used programs I use (most which are on the Task Bar).

Any support I can get on the Power Management issue would be most appreciated.

I've been getting a Windows script error on boot for a couple of weeks now. IIRC, it was just after a Lenovo Solution Center upgrade. I simply close the window, and I get no further errors - but I'd love to know why Windows is looking for this file, and how to either provide the file or turn off the dependent script. Here's the path: C:\ProgramData\Lenovo-16378.vbs and the Code is 80070002.

Can someone help me understand the different versions of the Bluetooth Driver for the Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230BNHMW Bluetooth card in my S230u Twist. If I go to the Intel Driver site is states I have 15.16.0.2 installed, and the latest version is 17.1.1501.01. But when I try to install that 17.x driver it always fails installation. Do others have this problem. If I run a scan with Lenovo System Update, it states I need to install the first version of the driver, version 3.1.1306.0354. Is this a much older driver. What is recommended for use. Thanks.

Hello everyone. Question: Does Twist support 128 GB SDXC cards? Explanation: I've purchased the 128 GB SDXC card (Class 10 UHS-1) produced by OltraMax. It was the cheapest one and work perfectly everywhere except my notebook =) It's very sad, you will definitely agree with me because the is only 128GB SSD drive installed in my Twist and it's starting to annoy.I've checked the version of drivers of Realtek PCIE cardreader and they are the last. I did some testing of various SDXC cards in a ThinkPad S230u and did not observe any problems.  You can read about it in the following message thread:  ThinkPad Twist s230u 4 in 1 card reader UHS-1 support

An issue may happen after running ThinkVantage System Update and selecting all available updates.  After rebooting, Lenovo Solutions for Small Business will fail to launch.  This issue happens because of a failure during one of the updates.

To fix the issue, download and install the Intel MEI driver.  Although this software is already installed on your system, it is in a broken state.  Installing it again will fix it, and let Lenovo Solutions for Small Business run successfully.
