S430 USB ports do not recognise any devices, give error "A USB Port Reset Request Failed"

Question: S430 USB ports do not recognise any devices, give error "A USB Port Reset Request Failed"

My USB ports became more and more flakey over the past few months. Often the device was recognised but would not enumerate a COM port. I tried recently to update new chipset drivers and now devices are not recognised at all. I have tried installing the drivers on the Lenovo page but to no effect. I have a feeling I installed an older Intel chipset driver which may have caused problems, in any case re-installing the chipset driver on the Lenovo page makes no difference. I have written more details in this post on SuperUser The error given in the device manager is code 43 and "A USB Port Reset Request Failed". I can't find any information on that particular error code.

Preferred Solution: S430 USB ports do not recognise any devices, give error "A USB Port Reset Request Failed"

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Suddenly my Dell DA200 Adapter doesn't work on my Dell XPS 13 9360.    HDMI & VGA can still work projecting to my monitor, but USB and LAN stops.
Tried uninstall, reinstall, update USB drivers to no avail.  Last resort was to clean install but problem is still there!  It's only been 3 months and I practically did nothing different than yesterday (no new install, change/update driver, etc.), just stopped today!
Tried the hdmi adapter to the USB-C and work, also showing it as billboard device, whilst the DA200 don't show.

Want to tried to wifi power setting, but couldn't find it in the device manage->network adapter?
Any idea what should i do?  Faulty adapter seems to be the last answer, but it's practically new and it was working flawlessly before.  Will i be able to claim warranty on it?

I'm attempting to help my daughter fix her USB issue, so the information I have about the computer is minimal at this point. The computer is and HP Pavilion a6710t Desktop PC. It has a Foxconn motherboard. Here's the story, She's been using this computer for a couple of years, was running Window Vista. One day her wireless mouse and keyboard quit working. I gave her a usb mouse to try to no avail. The message when we plug any USB device that previously worked on her computer is 'Unknown sub device, device descriptor request failed'. After doing much research online and attempting a multitude of fixes from online sources I had the bright idea (being the computer genius that I am (NOT!)) to update her Operating system to either Windows 7 or Windows 8. She chose Windows 8. Here I'm thinking if I wipe the hard drive, do a clean install of Windows 8, the problem would be fixed. Boy was I wrong, still no USB ports are working. Makes no sense to me unless it's the hardware itself. Any suggestions? Ideas?

Answer:USB ports inoperable, error says, device descriptor request failed.

Based on what you have tried, it does seem to be a hardware error. One more thing to try is check the CMOS battery's voltage. It's usually a CR2032 rated at 3 Volt. Carefully remove it after unplugging the PC from the socket outlet, and check the voltage with a digital multimeter.

I have had an L10 for 18 months. Under the warranty i had a replacement motherboard fitted. Everything has been ok until now. One USB port will not recognise any devices, one port is ok but randomly switches off a device attached to it and comes up with message "USB device not recognised". The third port is ok all the time.

Any solutions/suggestions?

Answer:Satellite Pro L10 - USB port will not recognise any devices

just a question: did the port stop to work immediately? If yes, it would be better to bring your machine back to the service partner because you should have still some warranty for the motherboard.
I think it?s the only good solution since such errors are going much more in the direction "hardware error".

I own a Toshiba Equium M50 and have problems with the Marvell Yukon 88E8036 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller.

I used to connect via an 'ADDON' Modem/ADSL Switch and had no problems. I then replaced the ADDON with a 'NETGEAR' DG834G ADSL Modem/Router to gain the wireless port, and since then my machine will not recognise the LAN port. <error: Network Cable unplugged>.

I know that the cables are OK as I used them with other laptops and had no trouble. I can also plug in a PCI card to connect without any problems. It looks to me as if the Marvell Yukon 88E8036 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller has a problem with the netgear Modem/Router.

Anyone out there with a similar experience and some advice/suggestions?

Answer:Equium M50 will not recognise the LAN port - error: Network Cable unplugged

For me it doesn?t show like a LAN card problem but your router is a problem.
Check the device manager if the LAN card was properly recognized. If there are no yellow exclamation marks so everything is ok!
You can try to delete the LAN card from the device manager and after new reboot install the LAN driver again.

The issue has stared after installing or connecting the new Netgear modem router.
Therefore I would recommend to checking firstly the settings or to update the firmware on this router.

Was trying to plug my Toshiba 1tb External hard drive in to retrieve music off it and it wont recognize the drive. Device manager revealed the yellow triangle and error message. It works on my wifes hp streambook and also my kids stream book both are running wondows 10 like mine. I have tried nearly 10 different suggestions from google searches and have gotten nowhere. The only thing I couldnt try was turning off the usb in the power options, for some reason mine doesnt display that option. My notebook only has 1 usb port so I cant try a different port. Any suggestions or fixes?

having trouble installing an Epson WF-2530 printer onto win 8.1 machines.
i have 3 win 8.1/64 bit machines. it will install and is working on only one.
used the same installation disc, and install process, and cables with all 3 machines.
googling the problem shows plenty of stuff mainly updating drivers. done that, still no good.
Not sure why it works on only one, a generic clevo laptop w550eu.
the installation process stumbles when it asks you to connect the printer cable to the computer.

Question: s430 USB port

I've just had my s430 serviced, during which the mainboard was replaced. Turns out this wasn't the issue, but what I have found is that one of my USB 3.0 ports (left one) is now only funcitoning as a USB 2.0 port! Very frustrating given this laptop only has the two! Can any one give me any ideas of whether this was the case with some s430's (maybe later revisions to save money), or give me any ideas how to diagnose and/or solve this? Cheers Matt

Answer:s430 USB port

they all had the USB 3.0 port, there was no variations in the build spec for the USB ports.

Happy Holidays to all.

Have the following msg that appears momentarily on top of
monitor when attempting to boot my non-booting system:

A7 Me FW Download Request Mpsp Lock Failed.

Any idea what this means ?

Won't go over my tale of woe with my Dell XPS 8900 now, but basically I got it to run, finally,
perfectly, after using the Dell Repair Disk I created when I bought the pc 2 yrs ago.

But, like usual, after 10 minutes or so it just freezes, and a blank screen.

There "seems to be" a correlation in that it "seems to" happen after a download from MS and/or Dell.

Dell customer support wasn't able to help me fix this issue. Luckily I've got a bit of experience with computers and was able to figure it out. Basically, my XPS 8900 started freezing at start up (at the Dell logo) and would either remain frozen or black out the screen with the error message, (A7) Me FW Downgrade - Request MeSpiLock Failed.
So, for anyone else unfortunate enough to encounter this error, here's the fix;
- Start Computer
- Press F12 at the Dell logo (May require wired keyboard)
- Select "Change Boot Mode Settings"
- Select "Legacy Boot Mode, Secure Boot OFF"
- Apply changes
- Computer will restart, press F12 again at the Dell logo
- Select "Windows Boot Manager"
- Computer will start as normal. Log in. Once on your desktop, restart computer
- Press F12 at the Dell Logo
- Select "Change Boot Mode Settings"
- Select "UEFI Boot Mode, Secure Boot ON"
The computer should then start normally and you should have no more issues.
Hopefully I can help at least one person with this information, I was tearing my hair out in frustration. Have a good day :)

Answer:XPS 8900 ERROR - (A7) Me FW Downgrade - Request MeSpiLock Failed

I have a XPS 8900 I purchased from Costco about 2 months ago.  Just this month I have had my system freeze on me 7 times.  It boots up ok but freezes randomly while I am logged in on the internet or in outlook.  I have had to do cold boots. This last cold boot I did today I barely saw the message "Request MeSpiLock Failed" as it was booting up.
Costco tech support asked me to did a system restore which didn't help and another time ask that I do a rebuild to earlier version of Windows 10.  I don't have high hopes that this last change will help.
Do you think the steps you listed in your post on 1/15/16 at 6:38pm would fix my problem?
Thanks - Joanne

i recently changed my wireless adapter

Is this a USB adapter? Does the error go away if the adapter is removed? With the yellow flag in Device Manager, right click it and Uninstall it. Remove the USB Device from the computer end and Restart your computer. When the computer comes back up, plug the USB device into different USB port of the computer.

A little background info:
I had a friend of mine build this PC for me a few days ago, its custom.
This is the motherboard I bought (new): Z-97A
I did a lot of upgrades so we had to do a custom install, I chose the default location to the same drive as my original W7 OS was on.
I installed all the drivers that came with the motherboard and all windows updates.
Even if they are not recognized the devices still get power (like my phone will charge but the PC doesnt know what it is or even see it as unknown)
While gaming 2 nights ago one of my presumed dead USB ports that didnt read my Sennheiser headsets randomly began to read it & automatically installed drivers for it after I was initially unable to get it to detect before. So it just kinda came "alive" on its own you could say

You will see in devices and printers it says I have 3 Keyboards, I only have the one on the far left.

When my Sennheisers were detected I immediately installed the drivers for them from their website but now it shows up as "Unspecified". Before my reinstall of windows I am pretty sure it listed in the devices category with a picture of the headset.

Welcome To Lenovo Community
The older GPS's and Navigation programs are written for the old "serial" RS232 ports which on the computer are known as "COM1 COM2 ETC." The only way to utilize an older GPS or Navigation program on the "new" computers which only have USB ports is to use a special cable or adaptor known as a "Serial to USB" cable/plug. Along with the cable you will receive a mini-CD disc with the driver that tells the new computer to treat the USB input via the cable as a virtual COM port. Most navigation programs are set up to search all available COM ports to find the GPS signal.  You can obtain these Serial to USB cables on the internet for a few dollars. After you obtain one put the little CD disk into your computer and follow the instructions. Some require the cable to be installed before the driver but most will install the driver and then when you computer "sees" the new device it will automatically activate the
One thing to remember is that whatever physical USB "hole" you put the GPS into needs to be the only place you plug in that GPS. Each physical USB port has a different computer "address" and plugging the GPS into a physically different USB port will require re-installing the driver and the re-installing the navigation program's access to the GPS. To avoid that choose a USB port that is not needed for essential other

I've had this problem for quite some time, and I really don't understand what's going on. I try to set up an apache server on my computer to help test my web designs, only it won't open now. I've checked the port(80), and nothing seems to be attached to it(it says "Listening").

I did a little research and there was something about the host and the virtual host trying to bind to the same port, but I don't think that's the problem either because the host binds to 80 and the virtualhost is set to 443(in the httpd.conf anyway). I would really like to fix this.

Answer:Apache OS 10013 Error (Failed to bind to port)

Assuming you are doing this on a Windows computer I am betting IIS is somehow interfering.

As a test or work around try setting your apache configurationg file to listen on port 8080.

I have a Satellite P10-304 and the USB ports will not recognise anything attached to them. The Device Manager is telling me that they are enbaled and working properly. What can be wrong with them or what can I do??

Answer:Satellite P10-304: USB ports will not recognise anything

A friend of mine has the same unit on the work and everything works perfect. He use USB hub too and have many external devices connected to the unit.

By the way: something like that can happen if the external device is not removed properly using ?Safely remove hardware? option. If you try to connect other device after that in most cases it will not be recognized at all. In this case you can restart the unit or remove ports from device manager and use hardware detection to find them again.

Hi and welcome to Tenforums!

Error 0x80080005 can indicate a problem with the Store and/or Windows Update.
Please try opening the Store app and see if you can install and/or update any apps.
Then open Windows Update and see if you get any errors when trying to check for updates.

Open an administrative command prompt (right-click the start button) and run sfc /scannow to check for system file errors. We're looking for "no integrity violations found" upon completion. If you get a result that Windows has found and repaired errors, or can not repair the errors, reboot and run it again - for a total of at least 3 times.

My computer doesn't recognise any of the devices when connected to the USB Port on my Satellite A30. After dowloading SP2 I was able to install the printer but I can't use it because there is no printer icon on the tool bar. If i want to print anything i get the printer window, i select the print then it goes to MS Office Image writer. Basically, I can't use my printer or any other device connected to a USB port.

However, It was working perfectly well when I had the XP home edition but I can't reinstall that one because there is something wrong with the recovery disk that's why I had to install the XP Pro.
Also, I used to get a sound, letting me know that a device has been connected. I don't get that anymore nor the icon on the toolbar.

Is there anything I could do to resolve this issue please? Is it possible to obtain another recovery disc somehow? Obviously this is something to do with XP Pro software but I don't know what to do.
Could you please help me?

Thank you!

Answer:Satellite A30: Doesn't recognise any USB devices.

There I think you will find the USB port is disabled in the bios.
if you tap F2 at the 1st screen and scroll through the headings in the bios it will have enable disable the USB.
if you change the USB section to enable and close the window saving the settings then USB should work after you reboot.

Hope this helps

Put your hdd back on the primary ide channel. Once you can boot to windows shut down unplug and reset system bios (using the bios jumper on the system board) Restart and enter setup. My PC is running Windows 7 Ultimate 64. My mobile is a Windows 'phone running Windows 8.1 (update 2) I have Dropbox synced between the two.
And yet the PC thinks that I have two other devices which I don't have and cannot recognise the Windows 'phone - even when they are connected by cable and that connection works perfectly well.

This is making it impossible for me to be active on Instagram (as one example although I did set up an account on a previous Android 'phone) and to connect apps I have on the PC to the mobile.

Can someone please tell me how to stop the PC seeing what is not there and see what is there?

Yes, I know that I will need to upgrade to Windows 10 which I know is needed for the Instagram app.but that is not the immediate problem.

Answer:My PC thinks I have devices I don't have but doesn't recognise what I do have.

If you are talking about Devices in Devices and Printers, this shows all the devices that have connected to your network, including your computer (eg) Cable or Satellite TV box, Smart TV, Blu-Ray player, Printers as well as any other phone, MP3 player or computer etc. If these devices have ever connected to the internet from your router, they will show in your Devices and Printer. If they are no longer connected to your network they will be greyed out. If you no longer have this device, you can right click it and choose Remove Device.
This has nothing to do with your Windows phone connecting to your computer. When you plug the phone in, it should say New Hardware Found, and you must press Trust this device on the phone.
Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc, right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager, are there any devices with yellow flags? Or under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, is there an Unknown Device? If so, right click this and Uninstall it. Remove the USB cable from the Computer End, Restart your computer. Once the computer restarts, plug the USB cable into the Back USB port of the computer (desktop) and not the front or through Hub as these ports are weaker. or a different USB port if on a laptop. You should get new hardware found, be sure to Trust the Device.

Well this is the exact same problem i came to post about. only difference is the one i have is Windows XP so i dont think its a vista issue. good thing i searched through the forums first i guess. My dads computer started doing this for seemingly no reason. He was doing his work on it and had to go somewhere and he left it on. when he got back his USB network card and his USB external harddrive and flash drives no longer worked. his USB keyboard/mouse still work perfectly though. I tried uninstalling the USB root hub drivers. I used that COMPAQ recovery on his computer (restores the origional XP install and all drivers / default software). But that did not fix a thing. He cant do any work untill this is fixed since he has no internet.

Almost forgot to say.... when i connect his network card and external hard drive they get that unrecognised device message and show up as unknown device in the device manager.

So with this does anyone know what could be the problem?

Answer:USB issues, Failure to recognise any USB devices.

<<I used that COMPAQ recovery on his computer (restores the origional XP install and all drivers / default software).>>

Have you looked at the owner's manual for the Compaq system?

What model Compaq is this?

Unknown devices reflected in Device Manager...are devices which require drivers to be installed.

By any chance...does this system use the XP System Restore function?

The computer boots up and the fans start running however the mouse and keyboard are not powering up ( no lights work on the keyboard or the mouse) also the monitor is blank as if it was not connected but it is. I have checked to make sure they work at different computers, they all work just fine. The problem started this morning when I first started my PC the resolution on the monitor wasn't correct so I wanted to restart to try and fix it but when I did the screen never came back on and neither did the mouse and keyboard.Yesterday the PC worked just fine without any problems. I read about similar issues on different forums some states that this issue might be caused by faulty ram so I tested each stick at a time in different ports and once it worked the keyboard and mouse lit up and the monitor worked, but then I wanted to switch I off to put my graphics card back in ( I took it out to get to the ram easily ) and then with the stick it worked with previously it didn't work this time. I haven't managed to get it to work since then.SpecsIntel i3 quad core 3.4 ghzGtx 660Corsair cx600 psu6gb ram (1x2gb 1x4gb )1tb Toshiba hddPLEASE HELP ASAP

If you know of a better place to post this problem, please let me know. My Z60m works fine, but my Type 2054 Port Replicator USB ports do not. Sound is also not working. Seems the only ports that do work are the power, NIC and VGA. I have tried uninstalling all USB Ports. They reinstall but have no affect on the replicator.

so I upgraded from  lenovo y570 and bought another y400 ..looks like it was a horrible decision as Lenovo is at it again locking us paying customers out of functionality of OUR MACHINE ..I DID NOT LEASE IT I BOUGHT IT WITH CASH..having said that , I am requesting a link for a modified bios for my y400 so it can see my hardware.. no whitelist please..otherwise I am more than happy to return both of these machines and buy a different OEM.thank you

Answer:Ideapad Y400 Bios Unlock request or give me my money

I also bought a y400 and now realize that the locked bois is extremely annoying.  The severe power management provides decent battery, but unfortunately cripples the gpu.  I wish I could downclock the cpu and allocate some more power to the gpu.  The current power management provides too much power to the cpu so the gpu downclocks to 135 MHz. Unfortunately this tweak is controlled by the bois.

Hi All,

Getting a strange error with Hyper-V on Windows 8 Pro x64.

When I try and add a virtual switch I get:

Error Applying Virtual Switch Properties Changes
Failed while adding virtual Ethernet switch connections.
Ethernet port '{a bunch of stuff}' bind failed: The data is invalid.

There doesn't seem to be much on google that relates to this (in particular the bind failed: the data is invalid part).

Anyone have a clue what the cause might be?

Answer:Hyper-V Error Adding Virtual Switch - Ethernet Port Bind Failed

can be many thing, in 3 or 4 years that I'm using Hyper-V I never encounter it, you need some networking knowledge to play with virtual switch, but usually 0x8007000D error are due to files corruption or permissions, try to run hyper-v management as admin.

Hello, I had to install Windows 7 x64 on an Acer Aspire E5-575G-527G (Legacy Boot). Even though I've installed the intel eXtensible Host Controller driver, the USB ports are still categorised as 'Unknown Devices'. Windows automatic driver search led to no fruitation. While installating RtsXStor, the system seemed to struggle to recognise the devices, but ultimately failed. Would appreciate some help.

Answer:Aspire E5-575G doesn't recognise the USB ports

The E5-575G was designed for Win 10 and no consideration was given for Windows 7. A correct chipset driver and I/O driver is needed for usb and you may not have one of them. Look at device manager/ IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers for your chipset. Right click on the "unknown devices" in Universal Serial Bus Controllers and select uninstall and reboot. If your bios isn't at 1.15, I would update that too.

Hi All, hope this is the right forum.
I have a DOS data collection program that ran under DOS 6.2, on a laptop + docking station that had 4 physical COM ports.
The program expects to see COM5 - COM8
The laptop has died, so I want to use a modern laptop running XP (although I could instal Win 98 SE), with a USB - 4 x RS232 converter.
Problem is, the DOS program won't recognise the virtual COM ports. The guy who wrote the software lost the source code (written in C++), and I only have the .exe file.
Any ideas how I can get things working again?

I am running an HP Compaq 8510w with Windows 7 Enteprise. When I first got the laptop the USB ports didn't recognise devices when they were plugged in, and the laptop would just hang when shutting down (on the Windows Shutting Down screen), so I decided to reinstall the OS as there was a lot of unnecessary applications installed.

I've been using the laptop since the rebuild and all has been good, until the past week or so when the same two problems have materialised again - when I attach a PSP, or a printer via USB, they are not recognised. And when I shut the laptop down, it hangs on the Shutting Down screen.

What checks can I run to see what the cause of this might be? I've not really installed a load of software on here, and I can't think of anything specific that I may have done that would cause this...

Can anyone help?

My wired and wireless devices can all find my home network - but the router can't connect to the internet...

This all happened after infection by some ransomware (which I finally cured by rolling back to a restore point a few days old) - but I can't see the connection between this and the router...

I've tried a different ADSL filter - same problem... ISP tech support were no help...

Does anyone have any ideas? Could the infection have somehow damaged the router firmware? And if so, how can I fix it?

Answer:Devices recognise router but can't find internet

Short answer: No.

Did you unplug the router for 5 minutes? Could your ISP connect to your router? I am assuming you have a cable company provided router in this case. Because sometimes you have a hardware failure when you least expect it to happen and if they can't connect then that's a possibility which is exactly what you mentioned.

We need to look at the router if no devices can connect to it.

Can you access the internet directly or is this an all in one router from your provider?

Answer:Laptop won't recognise external storage devices

Looks as if your USB Ports need refreshing, assuming your devices are USB!In Devices you will need to uninstall all USB ports and then re-start the laptop - upon which your USB Ports will automatically be re-installed/refreshed.

MyComputer & DeviceManager very slow to recognise devices.

(1) When i click on the MyComputer icon, the file explorer window appears but it takes about 60 seconds plus for connected devices to be recognised and displayed in the window (eg: CD, DVD and floppy drives).
NOTE: I can access other NON MyComputer directories without a problem (eg: MyDocuments, MyNetworkPlaces, RecycleBin, & DesktopFolders).
NOTE: When the window does get updated, navigating thru the file structure sees fine.

(2) The DeviceManger (under ControlPanel/System/Hardware) does not recognise any hardware (the window is blank).

(3) When accessing the Address bar in Internet Explorer, IE just hangs.

I think my son's computer is not recognising connected devices until some sort of time out condition occurs.

I have ran all the standard antivirus / spyware software (& updates) with no major issues found. That is: AdAware, Microsoft Antispyware, Spybot, AVG, CWShredder, HijackThis.

Windows XP Pro + SP2 + all updates.
IE 6 + SP2 updates.

Thanks in advance.

I've been having problems with my Toshiba M100 Satellite series notebook not reading Sandisk SD card from my son's camera - it's a 2GB card and from what i've read online maybe that's the problem BUT the notebook is also not reading any of my USB 'stick' devices. When i insert the SD card or a USB 'stick' it asks me to instal driver software which is just stupid. I've tried connecting the camera via a usb cable too and it won't recognise the device and, again, asks for device driver software.

I've looked on the toshiba website and have installed all updates that i thought might be appropriate, i'm also in the process of running Windows update (do this at least every 2nd week anyway so it shouldn't be a problem). I'm running Vista Home Edition (32bit). The USB ports have definately worked in the past, I really don't want to resort to running recovery discs if i don't have too as i don't want to lose all the stuff i have stored.

The SD Card/USB issue seems to be a common one but i can't find a specific fix on this or any other tech site, any suggestions?

Answer:Statellite M100 won't recognise any USB storage devices or SD card

In your case I would do two things.

First: Check if a new BIOS is available. Look on the Toshiba website and make an update.

Second: Reinstall the laptop with the recovery disks. I know that you will lose all data, but you can save it on DVD?s or external HDD.

Ive downloaded all available updates from tried everything i can think of. Power is being supplied to my 4 port hub and all devices attatched to this(being a webcam and my 256Mb USB flash drive) as the light on the cam is lit. i have installed drivers for both of these devices but if i try to run the program associated wit the cam...apparently its not attatched. and the flashdrive may as well not be plugged in.for the record i also get nothing when i connect these devices to ports directly on the motherboard.
so theres my problem.ANY help or suggestions would be useful as...well to be honest im drawing a blank.

I am afraid I am one of the mugs who fell for the financial scam called Vista. It is now history that MS just released it as a device to extract licence fees out of us whilst waiting on Windows 7.

But what is worse is that they either refuse to or are incapable of doing anything about it.

Since buying it I have had Windows Explorer problems. But it has deteriorated to the point where MS is now sabotaging my work.

Base problems:

Windows Explorer has stopped working. Windows is looking for a solution.

Well it never worked did it? But now it is closing in mid-task so I lose work. Without reason, it stops recognizing folders, files, browsers and any device.

USB device not recognized. One of the devices attached to this machine has malfunctioned.

No, it hasn't! The devices concerned are any USB pen, any Android phone, even an old pre-Android Sony Ericsson and the DVD player. These devices work perfectly well with other PCs.

These devices don't "malfunction" indefinitely in Vista, only about 90-95% of the time; which proves that they DO work and that it is WE that is malfunctioning.

I have sought help on the Microsoft support forums. All they have contrived to do is convince me to uninstall and re-install the driver for my USB stick.

It uninstalls fine but now no driver can be found to re-install. So MS have ensured I cannot do any work at my place of work due to Vista!

So I have returned again to t... Read more

The first thing I would do is check your hard drive(s) with Seatools or similar, if it keeps crashing use a boot cd like Ultimate Boot CD to check the HD outside of Windows, or take the HD out & test it on another machine.

I have a WD Passport 1TB drive, on two my pc's USB 3 ports, it just won't get recognised. Once the cable is plugged in, the power light on the drive lights ON , not blinking, and nothing else happens.

Any idea to fix or diagnose this. The USB ports otherwise seems to work with other drives.

Is that something to do with the USB ports have its power turned off, as this drive requires power from the pc.

Hello! First post on this forum but been browsing for some time. My machine: ThinkPad S430, type-model: 3364-5HG, Win 7 x64, 500 GB HGST HDD. My problem is notably similiar to this one: problem occurs on very irregular basis, at times a couple of times a day but other times it goes weeks between the interrupts. It starts with some sort of short mechanical sound from the HDD, similar to the one when you turn the laptop of by pressing and holding the power button (only do this if I absolutely have to, it feels like choking someone with a pillow). After the sound, the screen freezes for a couple of seconds before the short bluescreen mentioned in the link occurs. The rest is as follows by the link above. Basically the only difference is the HDD brand (HGST in my S430 and Samsung in the link). After reboot (with power button during the automated reboot after bluescreen when the error code occurs), the laptop works fine.  It's getting quite annoying when this happens and also the suspension of not knowing when it will happen next is not good for my heart. What to do? Thanks in advance! Regards,Nicholas

Hi guys,

I have a HP DC7600 desktop computer & the USB ports unfortunately decided to stop working when about a week ago they were working fine.

Things I've tried:

> Uninstalling drivers in 'device manager'
> Uninstalling the usb ports
> I've unchecked the 'allow computer to turn off device to save power' box.
> I've re-installed a fresh copy of windows XP
> Unplugging the computer then plugging it back in

Things I do know:

> I'm using windows XP
> The USB ports had been working fine for at least 4 months before that
> My computer is a re-furbished one from the local college
> When i plug in a flash drive in the front USB ports it does light up

Please could someone help, as the computer I'm using now (my spare) is MEGA SLOW & normally with my HP I'd get work done in half the time i would do as appose to using this tortoise!

There's nothing worse than using a slow computer it sucks.

If any of you can help me resolve this problem i will reward you with some money. Please help

So here's the deal.  I've got 2 gtx 680 cards, and and have 2 monitors with my computer connected through a DVI cable.  I have a 3rd 30' HDMI cable running to my big screen.  I can mirror the 2nd display on DVI perfectly to the HDMI HDTV.  Both systems can play the sound perfectly - BUT - not at the same time.  I have to go into sound control and either select the HDTV for sound -OR- the bose speakers on my computer.
I've tried stereo mixer to duplicate the sound.  Didn't work.  I've tried virtual audio cable, and it can duplicate the sound, but you have to configure it everytime - PLUS - there is a delay in the it's not sync'd properly with the movie.  So that's no good either.
I know you can set one device for your 'sound' and one for you 'communications'.  Whoopee doo.  That blows.
What I want is simple.  I want my TV & 2nd monitor to play the movie.  I want my bose usb hi def speakers on my computer to play the sound, and I want the speakers on my tv to play the sound through HDMI.  I heard this used to be able to be done in XP, but no longer.  This is a $2400 computer system, with the ultimate version of 7 on it.  Something like this *should* be kiddie play, but I can't figure it out.
Any way to rig it so it works?

I recently went into my computer to install a Corsair H80 Water pump for the GPU. Anyhow, after i connected all the cables and turned on the computer again i did not have any sound. Even though im not an expert with computers, i'm pretty sure all the cables are connected right (but there is always a possibility i screwed up there).
I do have sound devices, that is not the issue. After the first pc boot i had the Realtek digital output (realtek high definition audio) as the sound device. I went into the control panel and pressed sound. The previous audio device (that i had and was working) was there, but stated as "Not plugged in".
So, my computer does not detect or react as i connect any headsets nor speakers. I also checked the audio in the mixer to see that it "plays sound" which i can confirm.
I have searched the web for people with the same issues and tried a few "solutions" but none of them worked for me.
They were:
1. Uninstall and reinstalling the drivers
2. Making sure i got the latest versions of the drivers
3. Turning on the front jack panel in the Realtek HD Audio Manager, which resulted with the speakers apparing to be connected and works according to the computer but still no sound.
4. Tried different speakers and headphones.

So my question is, do you guys have any idea what to do? I have been sitting on this problem for quite a while now.

After trying several things im starting to believe it might be me who failed at connec... Read more

Answer:Audio devices undetected. Headphones or Speakers give no sound

The first thing to do, since you had it apart to install the water cooler, is to double (or triple) check all the internal cabling between the motherboard and the front panel connections. Second is to doublecheck the connections from your speaker system to the PC.

What is the status of the Realtek in the Device Manager? Does it show an error or does it show "working correctly"?

Are your "Speakers" set as the Default audio playback device in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel?

Has audio worked since reinstalling? Did you reinstall the Intel motherboard chipset drivers when your reinstalled? The motherboard chipset drivers are critical and many devices either will not work or not work correctly without the chipset drivers.

I know these are a lot of questions but a place to start.

So, my surface pro 3 started giving me blue screen of death errors and attempting to reboot automatically. I talked to Microsoft tech support and they gave me the instructions to make a USB recovery drive. But then, I got a new support tech and they had me do a "2 button reboot." This solved the problem for a while. But the errors started again.

Here is a list of the errors it gave me some multiple times:

I am experiencing the above problems.
I wanted to get a media centre up and running to link to my PS3. So, I downloaded XP SP2 a couple of weeks ago and then tried to install WMP11 but it wouldnt validate.
I tried a different Media Centre (TVersity) which installed and said sharing has started.
Windows XP was telling me that no firewall was present and when I try and turn it on it comes up with error messages. I have tried to resolve these but no joy.

This is my last resort to see if there is anything obvious in this log that could be causing a variety of problems (and anything I dont know about?!)

I have a 12x12 Tablet connected to serial port (COM1)and it will not detect or recognise this tablet.

The tablet is plugged in. The tablet light is on. The light changes from red to green when I run the stylus over it so it is not the tablet that is at fault here.

Please advise.

Answer:Satellite 2250XCDS won't recognise tablet in serial port

I assume that you use a Graphics Tablet (Pad). Is there any driver that should be installed before you can use it properly?

I have a similar problem.

My system no longer recognises the PS/2 Port TouchPad exists on my Satelite Pro U300. It recognises that it is no longer working but when I go into Control Panel then mouse it does not appear in the device list.

Answer:Satellite Pro U300 OS doesn't recognise PS/2 Port TouchPad

I?m not sure what issue did you describe exactly.
Do you mean that your notebook touchpad does not work anymore or did you mean the USB mouse?

If you mean touchpad then you should try to reinstall touchpad driver.
The Toshiba European driver page provides Synaptics touchpad drivers for Pro U300 series for Win XP and Vista.
But usually the OS should recognize the touchpad automatically and the touchpad should work even using the common internal Windows driver.

Windows freezes without any warning signs, have to reset the system from there. Then I'm getting the message that Windows didn't shut down correctly. After normal start-up the pop up screen appears telling that an unexpected error occured (something like that), clicking on it shows the BSOD message.

At the moment 64bit version is installed. Also had a clean install of 32bit but the same problem occured.

It's a pre-installed OEM 7 home premium edition, but did several clean installs (because of the problems) with an original Family Pack 7 disc.

The system is being used as a Digital Audio Workstation in a recording studio so it would be great if someone can help me out with this.

If you need more information please let me know.

Have a Dell Inspiron 1150 with XP Home SP2. The USB ports stopped working. Hardware manager sees them and finds no fault. When I connect a flash drive that works on other PCs, nothing happens; no power & the system doesn't recogize a device.

Found the post regarding USB.inf and reinstalled the file from Install CD. Now there is power, but system still does not see a device connected.

Ran Dell diagnostic tests: On USB controller 0, Register Test fails with Error Code 4E00:011C. Msg: Register 0 read write failed. Found 40h - Expected 00h.
Memory Structure Test: Error Code 4E00:0224 MSG: FRNUM Register is not walking frame list.
Controller 1 & 2 report same failures.

Can anyone suggest what is wrong, and can it be corrected?
Thanks in advance...
Frank P

Answer:USB ports don't see devices

It sounds like there may be a hardware fault with the ports. But try cleaning out past devices.

How do you get the BIOS to recognise the external diskette drive port?

Answer:Satellite Pro 460CDX: How to get the BIOS to recognise the external diskette drive port?

HEEE???? ?:|
Are you sure that you know how to update the BIOS???

Come on cheshire! The BIOS update is risky if you don?t know how to do it!
Usually you don?t need any drivers or additional software to recognize the USB FDD drive!

I hope you have downloaded the right BIOS and use the right BOS update procedure because if you will do it in the wrong way the motherboard could damage!
Therefore you have to read firstly the BIOS update guide lines! You can find it on the BIOS download page under ?More info?

Hi All,

Seems ive become a frequenter on this forum and ive only had win10 for about 2 weeks!

My laptop does not want to recognise the sound card/audio driver that are built into it. The fun part is this just happened. Audio played yesterday, and the time before that, and even before the upgrade. The only thing that has changed (or at least is the biggest change i can think of) is downloading and installing Cygwin (sans audio packages).

In trying to play a song on the new microsoft Groove, i get this;
Further inspection in the playback devices, the only two options are the Speakers/Headphones and communications Headphones, the former of which i can only assume is my actual computer speakers (otherwise its completely gone!).

Looking at the device manager, everything seems okay. All the drivers are up to date so im not sure what could be wrong there?

Just for everyones information, its Windows 10 pro (upgraded from Win7 Pro) and the computer is a Dell Precision M4600. Any more important information about the computer just ask, naturally as im asking for help, im all ears and very cooperative! (p.s. im pretty sure the audio driver is in the device manager image)

Thank you all!

EDIT: Its probably worth mentioning that when headphones are plugged in, sound plays all good.

Answer:Failed to find Audio Device - Win10 doesnt recognise my soundcard?

So no one seemed to be interested in this post. However after having a good dig around, it appears restoring the defaults on the audio device fixed the problem. Still, this seems to be more of a blackbox solution in that I still don't know what caused it to prevent it in future, but oh well. A solution is still a solution.

Hello all. I was talking on skype and lost internet connectivity while talking. I received the error above (Firewall Settings HTTP (port 80) HTTPS port 443 FTP port 21 error message). I am running a laptop with windows XP and IE 7 and my antivirus is AVG and I also have Ad-Aware.

I'm not much of a computer person but I did some research online and tried a few things: I turned off the option on skype's advanced settings for it to listen on Port 80 and then rebooted. I also ran a command, 'netstat -aon' and did not find a listing of 1270.0.1:80/443 or which seems to imply that nothing should be affecting port 80 or 443.

I also downloaded firefox and it cannot access the internet either. The only way I'm able to access the internet at the hotel I'm located at was to call the hotel's tech support and they had me go into the LAN settings of internet options and manually select port 8080.

Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I have suddenly gotten this on my main computer. (Windows XP)
A previous techguy thread (expired) said to check my dns numbers with "jpconfig /all"
However, my computer will not allow me to run that program in safe mode.
Is it a bug issue... or will that program only run in full mode?

Answer:Firewall Settings HTTP (port 80) HTTPS port 443 FTP port 21 error message

Dear mulebit,
It actually is " ipconfig /all " i.e replace" j"with "i".Please go to command prompt under Start--> Programs-->accessories. No need for "safe mode" to carry out this task. Can you kindly provide details of your computer specifications? Are you using a third party firewall and if so which brand? What security software are you running?

Answer:Firewall Settings HTTP (port 80) HTTPS port 443 FTP port 21 error message

Open Internet Explorer. Click Tools > Internet Options > Connections > Lan settings > Proxy server > Advanced. Delete the proxy server settings under HTTP, HTTPS (secure) and FTP (and Socks, if any). Then, under Proxy server, uncheck all boxed.

If running Firefox too, disable proxy server.

Some info on common ports used, don't know much about connectivity problems...but it seems to me that...if you never had this problem before and your system connects properly outside of this hotel...the hotel/location may be the problem.Worth a read, IMO:

Someone gave me this laptop as collateral for a debt, i took it, not knowing that they knew I couldnt even get in it. Please help me when I turn it onj, it goes to a blue screen and asks for Password

Answer:how can i reset or bypass the password request in the box

mmm - Whole thing sounds a little suspect... Did the person who gave you the laptop know the password; or did they "acquire it" illegally? If they know the password then ask them to login and create a full admin account for you. Then you login and delete "their" account (which you can do via an Admin level login)..

Recently I received reset requests on two of my hotmail accounts (four requests on one of the accounts and at least three on the other). I have not requested a reset. This just started within the past week, as far as I know. Both my husband and I have a number of other accounts but have not seen anything on those. Does anyone know what might be going on there? What should I do besides delete the requests? Thanks for any help you can give me! CAgirl

Answer:Hotmail password reset request

Sounds like someone is trying to get your password and account info?
When you want to get account info, you get an e-mail to the accounts registered e-mail adress. But since the account is registrated to your e-mail adress, they can't simply get it that way. And that is a good thing.

I have recently bough a new PC. Now that everything is put together and installed I am facing only ONE problem.

I own an Adata Nobility NH13 External HDD which is USB 3.0. When I plug it into any USB3.0 port using a USB3.0 cable, the drive does not show up in My Computer, nor in Device manager, regardless if I use the Front or Rear USB3.0 ports.

The USB2 ports work just fine with it but what is the point in having a USB3.0 device if you don't use it the way you should...
If I plug in USB2 devices in the USB3.0 ports the work great, and even if I connect the ExtHDD with a USB2 cable it does work.

Now, the first thing you would think is that the USB3.0 drivers are missing but in the Device manager, unser USB controllers, there is a Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller-0100(Microsoft).

If anyone has any suggestions, any help is greatly appreciated...

Answer:USB 3.0 ports don't recognize USB 3.0 devices

Install 3.0 driver from motherboard site or

Update motherboard bios to latest. Update 3.0 firmware to latest, if they offer that at all.

Try a different cable if those didn't do the trick. 1st one should though.

I have an extra MS small business server that I'm thinking about integrating into a buddy's network. It uses ports 80 and 443 for a number of things. From what I understand I can't change the ports.

He currently has another device (alarms system I think) that uses the same ports. They can't be changed either.

Is it possible to set up both devices behind a router? I think the best way to do this is to purchase another static IP address, but I thought I'd put the question out there and try to save a few $$.

Answer:Two devices listening on the same ports?

Just do port translation on the router.

I have a Hp Pavillion and on it are 3 usb ports the 1 on the right works fine with all devices but the 2 left ones wont work at all no matter the device, I have tried installing all drivers.

In device manager under > Other Devices > hidden devices I can see my logitech gaming mouse g500 but it doesnt work, Also in other devices is a Universal serial bus(USB) Controller which has a Yellow ! on it but I cant find a driver to it what could be stopping the ports from working.

They both work in linux and Windows 8 Just not windows 7.

solved it. I used PCI Vendor Database.

When I got up this morning my internet wasn't working. After going through everything it turns out that the wireless USB dongle I use wasn't being detected properly. I uninstalled it and reinstalled the driver. It still didn't work. I tried it in another port, it still didn't work. I tested another dongle of the same model and that wouldn't work either. I installed a spare dongle of a different model and that wouldn't work either.

I also found that an expansion USB hub that I'd installed earlier also wasn't working (this device is connected to a port at the back). It seems as though any USB device I install comes up as 'Unknown device'. I even thought that, perhaps, the drivers for the USB ports themselves might be at fault, so I tried uninstalling and reinstalling them. Device manager says they're fine.

Any ideas?

Answer:USB ports won't detect devices

when you plug something into the USB ports, does anything at all come up on the computer? If nothing does, you may have disabled the USB ports in the BIOS

I have a very annyoing problem; whenever I have a USB device plugged in, it keeps "reloading", meaning it all of a sudden loses it's connection with my computer, regains it a second later and the box saying that "new hardware has been found (or something like that)" pops up. Then it works fine for awhile but then it loses connection again and so on.
This is particularly annoying when I'm transferring files to a flash memory or external hard drive as the transferring is sometimes interrupted and the whole procedure has to be repeated.
Nothing shows up as strange in my hardware tab and I get no error messages at all, it just loses connection.
I'm running win XP with SP3.
Does anyone know what can be causing this? Any suggestions are welcome.

Answer:Problem with USB ports/USB devices

I'm not an expert, but depending on how old your ports/plugs are, I know mine have worn out before, simply lost there conductivity or have become slightly bent causing a disruption in the connection.

I have an eMachines W3050 Desktop

For some reason, all of a sudden, when I plug in my USB network adapter, it doesn't turn on and every other device plugged in turns off. If I connect anything to the computer, they won't turn on. The problem occurred when my desktop was running Windows XP. I wiped it and booted Ubuntu but the problem didn't go away.

I'm here asking for help because I don't know where else to look. There isn't anything important on (or in) my desktop so throw me all your suggestions as long as it is mostly safe to do. I just want internet, a working mouse, and a working keyboard all at the same time. Please help!

Thank you TSG community,
