Thinkpad Edge S430 automatic resume and reboot

Question: Thinkpad Edge S430 automatic resume and reboot

I have a problem with my Thinkpad Edge S430 running Fedora Linux (19 and 20). I can suspend the machine just fine, however, it wakes up automatically right after the suspend finishes. When the system runs again and I suspend again it stays in suspend. So far this could be a Linux bug. But I get the same when I shut down the machine: it turns off and the turns on automatically again after a second. Again, if I shut down after this reboot it stays powered off. Anyone else seeing something like this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Ecodot,Yes, it is possible to switch out the HDD with a SDD. Depending on the S430 you have you can do a mSATA SDD(S430 Optimus) or SDD.If you would like to look more into the type here is a helpful link(S430 psref): http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/edgebook_WE.pdf

Hi everyone, I am wondering if the internal SATA (not mSATA) port of the Thinkpad Edge S430 is a 6Gb/s or 3Gb/s port? Because the internal 500GB HDD is a Hitachi Travelstar Z7K500, which normally is a Sata 6Gb/s HDD, but CrystalDiskInfo says that it is only working in Sata 3Gb/s modus.I know that the HDD is not fast enough to max out SATA 3Gb/s anyway, but I want to replace the HDD with an SATA 6Gb/s SSD. So the question is why is the HDD is working in SATA 3gb/s modus. Does the board only support SATA 3gb/s or does the OEM Version of the Hitachi HDD only support SATA 3gb/s? Has anyone replaced the HDD with an SSD already? Regards,shivo222

Answer:Thinkpad Edge S430 Sata 6Gb/s or 3Gb/s?

The internal SATA port is 3Gb/s per the PSREF for your model located here:

I'm not sure why it is #Gb/s.

Hi there,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As I understand that you have query regarding S430 mSATA port, already there have been lot of discussion on the same

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Thinkpad-Edge-S430-is-it-possible-to-re...

As per the above page it states that mSATA port is SATA 2 port, & only 3Gbps will be available.

I hope the above information helps and do let us know how it goes.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

The adaptor is connected, the computer is turned on and it says: 'connected, not charging' and suddenly it just dies (when it hit 0%). However when the computer is turned off it charges without a problem. When I connect it to the adaptor and the pc is turned on it charges for 5 seconds and then it goes to 'connected, not charging'- mode. I have read through some other post suggesting to remove the battery - however the I have to remove the keyboard and other stuff as well, so I was looking for a simpler solution. Can you help me?

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad Edge S430: CPU replacement?

Hi, CharlyAR

I was able to find a video on FrusOnFone, which is a website that shows how to perform certain hardware repairs on certain machines. I watched the systemboard removal and replacement videos for the Edge S430. In both clips, you can see that the processor is already attached to the board, and there are no clips for the removal or replacement for the processor.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Hi  For about 3 weekI have been using and enjoying my new Edge S430. But I have some problems, questions: 1) I found out that i have a SSD caching disk, but it wasn't specified in the specs from the company where I bought it, no can I find much about it on the official Lenovo site. That's more of a pleasant surprise but looking in taskmanager I see that the disk isnt used at all! Anyone know what to do about it? 2)When starting taskmanager it sometimes takes up to 3 min(!) to start it and display info... 3)Sometimes when plugged in and sometimes when not, the S430 wont go to sleep (i did check the settings, all is normal). 4)When waking the realtech headphone driver isn't enabled and plugging in the headphones wont make the speakers go mute. 5)How do I disable the screen (make it go black?) I would be grateful if some of my issues are fixed/explained. Many thanks!

Answer:Thinkpad Edge S430 questions/problems

are you using the preinstalled windows 7 / 8 ? 1.) i don't know windows 8, but can you see the free space of a disk in the taskmanager? anyways here is how to check if the cache is active - open start menu - search for "cmd" - rightclick run as admin - enter "eccmd -info" post results 2.) that is very weird, never heard of that 5.) maybe there is a hotkey for the S430, elsewhise you can rightclick the power manager applet (if installed) -> turn screen off immediately. otherwise there are alternative programms that can do this for you hope i could help

Hi guys I'm an engineering student out to buy one of these computers. The problem is the more I research the more unsure I get. I've never owned aLenovo machine before so I thought i would ask you guys. The Yoga is the 5i, 8RAM, 265GB, ca $300 more than the S430The S430 is the 7i, 8RAM, 500GB.It has to be able to run all of the math programming and chem software, and do it fora few years. But it will also be my main computer and I would like something that is abit consumption friendly. I was also really set on an ultrabook before I saw the S430 asI am really lazy and already have to lugg around a bunch of material.I'm kinda confused as both would meet my needs but I just don't have the experiencewith these machines to make this choice. Thanks for your time!

Answer:Ideapad Yoga or Thinkpad Edge S430

Processor: Yoga uses the U series low voltage and lower speed processors. S430 uses full speed and full voltage processors. Advantage: S430
Graphics: Yoga has integrated graphics; S430 has slightly faster integrated graphics or 620M. Advantage S430.
Connectivity: Yoga has 1 USB 2.0, 1 USB 3.0, HDMI and Card reader; i7 S430 has Thunderbolt, 2 USB 3.0 ports, DisplayPort, miniHDMI, wired ethernet, and card reader. Advantage S430 (Thunderbolt & Display Port are useful).
Keyboard: Yoga has a good keyboard; S430 has trackpoint. Advantage: S430 (unless you don't use trackpoint).
Operating System: Yoga has Win 8; S430 has Win 7. Advantage: Yoga (since you could downgrade to Win 7 if you purchase Win 8 Pro). You should check to see if your school supports Win8.
Display: Yoga has a glossy 1600x900 IPS screen with multitouch; S430 has either 1366x768 glossy screen or 1600x900 non-glossy screen. Advantage: Yoga. (Touch is useful if you run Win8 and IPS and glossy is better for content consumption.)
RAM: Yoga maxes out at 8GB; S430 has 2 DIMM Slots and can be upgraded to 16GB. Advantage: S430.
Mass storage: Yoga has a SSD; S430 has a HDD. Advantage: Yoga (but you could upgrade S430 to SSD after purchase).
Optical Drive: Yoga none; S430 has one. Advantage: S430. (You'll probably be putting lots of engineering software on this thing, so you'll need an optical drive.)
Weight: Yoga 1.54kg; S430 1.8kg. Advantage: Yoga.
Battery: Yoga up to 8hrs; S430 up to 6hrs. Advantage: Yoga.

Hello everyone, I wanna buy a S430 with 16GB mSSD.I wanna ask, where is the windows installed? In the mSSD or HDD?If it is installed in the mSSD, does it means that if I replace the HDD with a SSD, I will not lose the windows with lenovo features like EE3.0 but only the data stores in the pre-installed HDD?Thanks a lot!!

Answer:[ThinkPad Edge S430 ] Problem between HDD, SSD, mSSD

Windows is installed on the HDD. The mSATA is used for caching purposes with software called ExpressCache. It makes the HDD performance faster.

If you intend to replace the HDD with SSD, then there is no purpose to buy the 16GB mSATA.  The mSATA cache will not make a SSD faster.

Hi, I'd like to install a proper SSD hard drive instead of the built-in 32GB SSD Cache drive. In the manual I've read, that it is not recommended/possible, to install a mSATA disk as a boot disk. Why is it not possible to use the internal mSATA slot for booting? Is it going to destroy anything or doesn't it work properly or which reason prevents the usage of the internal mSATA slot instead of the SSD cache?

Answer:ThinkPad Edge S430 WWAN: Ericsson F3507G?

Hey there CharlyAR,

Looking over some different specs and resources I found that specific modem you were looking may have been found on some models, like SL300, W500,T400, X200. It is important to note that some BIOS versions have whitelist restrictions of WWAN cards may work with the machine. Currently, the following two cards are compatible with S430.

According to the PSRef for the S430, it was offered with the option for the following WWAN card:

Wireless WAN, Ericsson H5321gw Mobile Broadband Module, PCIe Half Mini Card, GPRS/WCDMA/HSPA/HSPA+, ...

An additional option for you may be the ThinkPad GOBI 3000 PCI-e WWAN card, Lenovo Part Number 60Y3257.

Both of these options should work and be compatble with your S430. Good Luck and hope this helps you.

I was wondering about the Thunderbolt device as there are no drivers at the support page and even the Solution Center/System Update Utility doesn't recognize the Thunderbolt device. As so it isn't listed in the Windows Device Manager. I made sure that it is activated in the Bios (Thunderbolt Enabled). When I plug in a second display via a Display-Port to DVI Adapter, the second screen is not recognized. So I guess the device/driver isn't even installed. Sadly I don't have another Thunderbolt device to test its functionallity.I try to buy the apple thunderbolt to firewire 800 adapter. Does anyone know if it will work with non-apple thunderbolt implementations?Any help is appreciated. Thanks, David

Answer:Thinkpad Edge S430 Core i7 Thunderbolt Device

Hey Dagavie,

I believe that Thunderbolt is part of package and that is why you don't find as a stand alone download. What you can do is try uninstalling the video drive and installing the latest version.

Here is the link:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?

Also the device itself could need its own driver that you would have to get from the company its from. Like the monitor your try to connect.

Being as apple doesn't like to play well with others I can guess it wont work but this is just a guess and not a fact.

Best Regards,

Hiro

Hi There I just ordered myself an S430 with a 128gb SSD HDD included. I didn't see an option to replace the optical drive with a secondary HDD (e.g. a 500gb) so have the optical drive in as standard. Now, I would have rather changed this out for a secondary HDD or for a Blu-Ray drive, thinking I could do this myself once bought...Looking at other posts it looks like you can swap out the optical drive for a Blu-Ray drive, although I would preferably get a secondary drive over the Blu-Ray, but I'm hesitant over a few things: Is this possible to do myself (swapping out for either secondary HDD or blu-ray drive) without voiding the warranty? ThinkPad Edge doesn't support single-sign on from a powered-off state.  Only ThinkPad T/W/X ThinkPads can do that.
ThinkPad Edge can use fingerprint to log into Windows and/or Password Manager only.

Hi, juancevi

Is there an Intel wireless card in your S430? If so, then I would recommend checking out  Control Panel ? Programs and Features. Here you can uninstall certain programs from your computer. One that you may find is called the Intel Management Engine. If available, I would recommend uninstalling it. This program has caused issues for me in the past and removing it has helped my WLAN be more stable, so it may help you as well.

Best of luck. Let me know how it goes,

Hi all, I have a problem with my Thinkpad Edge S430. After reinstalling Windows 7, System update and all drivers, my trackpoint doesn't work. It´s disabled and there is no way of getting it to work. I have unistalled, cleaned the registry and reinstalled the driver from the official driver web page, from within system update,... no way.  The other problem is with the SD Reader. I use a 32Gb SD card for backup purposes and a week ago simply it´s like the reader does not exist anymore. The devide administrator does have all drivers installed, but the reader is not working (of course, I have checked that the card is working and with all data in other PC). I have also unistalled and installed the driver, but again no way. Any help is really welcome. Thanks in advance,

Answer:Ultranav trackpoint not working, SD reader vanished. Thinkpad EDGE S430

Hi, petodow

For the TrackPoint issue, I would try installing the Synaptics driver from here. Synaptics is the company that makes UltraNav, so there shouldn't be any loss of functionality.

As for the SD card reader, there is a BIOS update that was released five days ago that may help. The update can be found here.

Hope it helps,
Adam

On a Thinkpad S430 with HD4000 integrated graphics, an external display connected via a HDMI cable is not detected at all when using Windows. The system is fully updated as of the time of posting this message, both via the Lenovo Update tool as well as Windows update. The Intel driver version is 8.15.10.2696. It appears that this is the latest version, since it does not offer an update when I try to auto-update it via Device Manager. NB: I am running Ubuntu 12.04 with kernel 3.4.0 on the same machine, and the external display works perfectly fine with this software configuration. Hence I think that it's very likely that this is a Windows-specific driver issue. Would Lenovo happen to have a driver update in the works? Alternatively, I will be thankful for any suggestions about possible resolution of this problem.

After 5-30 minutes the screen breaks up in flickering (or just black) and system freezes. I need to turn off computer. After restart the error occurs again quickly. This occurs regardless if I boot to windows or into a linux bootable dvd. ButRemote desktop connection to the computer and it works fine for days . ->Thus I believe it is the intel 4000 graphics that has some hardware failure which is not invoked upon remote desktop. I wonder if this is a known issue? I wonder if only a replacement of the intel 4000 graphics will fix this (this probably means replacing the main board entirely?) OrIf it is in any way likely that it is _only_ because maybe thermal paste between cooler and cpu/graphics is slipping?  Lenovo Thinkpad Edge S430Intel I7 + Intel HD 4000No additional graphics

Answer:Can't dual boot windows 7 with windows 8 on Thinkpad edge S430

Hi,

I'm not familiar with "rufus".  Here's how I make UEFI-bootable flash drives:  format with a single FAT32 partition.   Use something like 7zip to extract the Windows ISO contents to the flash drive.  That's all.   Boot it in UEFI mode.  You'll have  to disable secure boot and enable CSM support.

You might give that a try.  I'm a little suspicious that UEFI bootability is broken if you can boot in legacy mode.  Maybe the drive is NTFS?  That won't boot in UEFI mode.

hi, recently i have a problem with my laptop, it started with a blue screen and a lot of white letters, then it turns off by it self, i turneded  "on" and it goes to the "windows error recovery"" so, i choose safe mode to try to get system restore, and NOTHING... IT JUST WENT  TO ADVANCE SYSTEM RECOVERY,  i tryed many times this way with no success, so the option i got was to go to advance recovery, i press ok to continue, after it finishe it say that it went to the point of new like the factory sended, now it doesn't boot up at all.... and everytime I turn it on it goes to the windows error recovery over and over again and try to load windows by it self..... what should I do???

Answer:my thinkpad edge can't reboot.... please help!!!

Hi, 365hvacr

There are a few options that you could utilize for this issue. If you are trying to boot into Safe Mode to try and restore Windows to an earlier place in time, you could try booting into Safe Mode manually, which can be accomplished by tapping F8 when you turn on your system until a menu pops up asking if you want to go into Safe Mode. Select Safe Mode and see if that lets you get to your desktop.

Another method to accomplish a system restore will involve using WinRE (Windows Recovery Environment). This method requires a recovery disc, but you should be able to boot from the CD and use the disc to set Windows back to an earlier state.

The final method also requires a Windows disc, but would involve reinstalling Windows. This would remove all of your files, however.

Hope it helps,
Adam

I just bought an ultrabay caddy for my Thinkpad Edge E530 (3632QM i7 quad core). The ultrabay first did not fit inside but I removed some plastic juts from it with a knife and drill . Now it fits in the slot, and the hard drive does seem to work when the machine is on. The only problem is that when you try to shut down the computer or reboot, it "thinks" for about 10 minutes before it actually shuts down the computer or reboots. I tried many things, I installed OS from scratch and it still does it. Immediately when I disconnect the ultrabay and put the machine on again the problem disappears. I tried changing various settings from BIOS but it does not help. I disabled rapidstart and removed the 16GB SSD, no change. OS is Win7-64bit. Any idea what could be causing this...? I think the most logical quess would be that something assumes that there is still an optical drive inside the computer even that there isn't and this causes the delay. Although I really don't understand how this could be as SATA is standard bus and you should be able to connect anything into it.   By the way the Ultrabay i bought  is made by Leicke:http://www.amazon.co.uk/LEICKE-Ultrabay-Enhanced-Adapter-Thinkpad/dp/B007II8O32/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&q...  BIOS version is the latest (was it 2.08 or something...?)

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E530 + Ultrabay extra hard drive = 10minute freeze on reboot...?

OK, so I examined the issue more and it seems to be about power management. When I disable Intel Speedstep and  the setting below it (CPU Power Management was it...?), this problem disappears. I also noticed that the same delay is when I try to get the computer to sleep. Of course it is not really good idea to use a laptop without these settings being on so another solution must be found. I guess there must be BIOS support for a hard drive in the DVD-bay in order for it to work with power management enabled. The question is that 1. should there be such a support...? 2. if there isn't will there be with a BIOS update...? Btw.. I tested with 2 hard drives with both the same issue.   If it becomes clear that there is no way to get a hard drive to work in DVD-bay with power management on, can you make such configuration that you buy 256GB msata SSD, install OS into it, and have a hard drive in the normal HD-bay...? Or would the machine go crazy when it tries to search for a non-existing rapidstart partition from msata...?

I've yet to see a review of the s430, or see much in the way of opinions about it. Any early adopters care to share there thoughts?

Answer:Edge s430 Opinions?

my friend bought an Edge S430 and i tested for couple of hours. The machine is very much like the E420s of in terms of design. -The build quality is good.-The keyboard is more like the Thinkpad X1 then the Edge 3xx,4xx,5xx series. -There is also the Thunderbolt port, for future upgrade (i.e. eGPU).The screen has gorilla glass cover, which means it is glossy and highly reflective under sunlight or strong ambient lighting (i.e. in the office with daylight quality fluorescent lighting). The only thing i dislike about the S430 is the lack of removable integrated battery (it is only 4 cells) and the discrete GPU is only a Nvidia 620m. I weighted the choice between a S430 or i7 T430s, i chose the latter, as i wanted a machine with removable battery. The X1 battery removal was a painful process that taught me the value of having removable battery.

I'm thinking of buying one.... 1) How about temperatures? Configuration:- i7 3520m- 256gb msata- 500gb hdd- 2gb gpu- optical drive All inside one machine (I won't be doing a lot of gaming but still some multimedia stuff) Won't it get hot.... 2) My girlfriend ownes an x121e. It has a 65watt power supply. The s430 has a 90watt power supply. Will the 65watt power supply keep my s430 fully charged when working with it at her place? 3) What color is it? I read somewhere it's mocha. I've seen pictures on this German website where it looked more like it having a purple glow... http://www.notebookjournal.de/tests/laptop-review-lenovo-thinkpad-edge-s430-n3b3dge-nkkas-1835

Answer:Questions about edge s430

Temperature runs high with _heavy_ workload. But nothing to worry about. I use it 24/7, not too much GPU but a lot of CPU workload and never had an issue or overheating. Is mocha. At least mine. Never saw a purple one.Regarding the power supply... I've used 65W occasionally without any issues. But I don't think it's recommended.

Hi Guys, ive got a few questions about the S430 1. How is the display, especially the anglestability? Right now ive got the samsung chronos 7 14 inch at home and i am a little disappointed about the display. I dont know, if the edges display is better. 2. How is the fan-noise? thx for answers Pat .

Answer:A few questions ( Edge S430)

So let me see if I can steer you in the right direction.  The Edge S430 is a terriffic machine and will provide a lot of enjoyment.  The screen can either be in a Glossy configuration or a Matte configuration.  The Matte display may provide less eye strain, however with any screen depending on the angle that you select you may see some distortion, just the way it is!  But that being said you should not have any major issues with viewing.  The fan noise is negligible and unless you are in a dead quiet area, you will not even hear it.  So as in any purchase, take your time, go to a Lenovo dealer take a look and then make your decision!!

Hi, A couple of days ago, Bluetooth went dead with no apparent reason. No Bluetooth device is being displayed in the Device Manager at all. And Windows won't allow Bluetooth to be enabled. I use Bluetooth headset almost all of the time and this is a huge issue for me.  I've tried restoring system to a previous point, enabling/disabling Bluetooth and WiFi from the BIOS, checked the services. Everything seems to be in order. But still, Windows will show it grayed out. I've been searching around and it seems I'm not the only one and is a frequent issue. But still haven't found a solution. Anybody, any idea how to fix this?

I got my ThinkPad Edge s430 just two days ago, and I was quite happy with it until I connected my headphones and noticed a permanent, very loud, hiss. It's so annoying that I simply can't use any headphones (I've tried with 2-rings and 3-rings jacks; it's the same thing). This appears to be very similar to the situation reported a couple of years ago for the Edge 13 in this thread, which is discouraging, as it seems no solution was found. Is any one else experiencing this problem?

Answer:Headphone noise in Edge s430

Hi,I've been using my S430 for over two months. I didn't have any problem with headphones. To be sure I just tried three different right now, both with two and three rings. Might it be some software or setting problem? (hopefully)I run Windows 8 clean install, default drivers, no Realtek or Dolby software installed.Good luck.

I just bought a brand new Edge S430 that was supposed (as in advertised) to have Windows 8 pre-installed on it. It has a Windows 8 sticker on the underside and comes with a set of Windows 8 Pro recovery discs but when I started it up for the first time I was greeted with the familiar Windows 7 logo, and lo and behold, it begins the initial set up procedure for Windows 7.The seals were all on the box and on the interior plastic bag around the product, meaning that I was the first person to handle it from the factory. What went wrong and is there any way to fix it besides returning it? Was it a mistake at the factory? Can I use the recovery discs to install Windows 8? Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hello there. I've had my Lenovo Thinkpad Edge S430-3EG for about a year now. It runs windows 7 64bit. Now i decided to reformat it.I made some mistakes along the way, and now my recovery program won't work. I'll start from the beginning. I used the recovery partition (Q, a separate 16gb SSD drive) to create a startup disc from within windows. It asked if it should create data discs, but I declined. Then I went about and started the recovery program via F11 in the boot menu. I asked the program to do a full factory reset. After it had started the resetting, it asked me for 'Applications and driver disc 1' which I didn't have. I assume it's those data discs I didn't have... I tried to reboot my computer, but windows wouldn't start up, leaving me stuck - it would just keep displaying the boot menu where you choose which drive to boot on. I went on to install another version of windows 7 64bit, hoping that I would be able to create the discs and recover my Lenovo version of windows. Alas, the recovery (Q) drive is gone from view in 'My Computer'. Also, the F11 function I the boot menu doesn't work anymore - it just does nothing and continues to boot into windows. I downloaded the 'Enhanced backup and restore' program and created a recovery-disc. It boots the recovery program up nicely, but when I want to do the actual recovery, it gives me an error message stating "Product recovery function has been removed from this system".  This is where I am... Hi Beejay,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that you had trouble with the WLAN card of your Lenovo ThinkPad Edge S430.

I suggest you to refer this document and choose the WLAN card according to your requirement.

If you need a Bluetooth combo card with 2.4 + 5 Ghz spectrum for WIFI, choose the one with ABGN listed, BGN will only be capable of 2.4 ghz.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hi!I want to put a BD-drive in my edge s430. Do i have to pay attention to something or can i use any 9,5 mm drive?

Answer:Optical drive Edge s430

Unfortunately kidacid the optical drive in the Edge s430 is a fixed drive and will required the keyboard to be removed and a screw to be taken out to remove the optical drive.

But you could always get an external blue-ray drive.

thank you lead_org

As far as I can tell from the support site any 9.5mm drive should work.

Hi,This morning I was browsing the internet, using skype on my Edge s430 with no problems. The battery got a bit low so I plugged it into power, plugged my phone into the usb to charge and left it while I had breakfast. When I went back the laptop didn't turn on when I opened the lid.  I waited and touched a few keys on the keyboard (usually does it). But nothing... tried pressing and holding power button for 30 seconds, nothing - no lights, no fans.  The battery is sealed inside so I can't do much - I tried unplugging from AC, pressing the power button 15 times at one second intervals, then held down for 30 seconds but no change - no lights, no fans.  When I plug the adaptor in, the green charge light comes on solid - not blinking or anything.  Edge s430 - stock i7 3364cto laptop.  Any help appreciated.

After I performed a clean install of Windows 8 in my ThinkPad Edge S430, I found that it was impossible to turn Bluetooth on (see pic), and, even more frightenly, the Bluetooth Communications Device does not appear in the Device Manager any more! (I've checked, I have no "Unknown" devices either). I've been trying different drivers with no succes. Bluetooth worked just fine under Windows 7, and it's still enabled by the BIOS. Does any one else have had similar experiences, or any ideas of what could be the problem?

Answer:Bluetooth in Edge S430 doesn't work on Win8

Hi, emannigol

I know you have already downloaded and installed various drivers to attempt to solve this issue, but I would like to make sure that one driver in particular has been installed. That driver can be found here. Select Bluetooth and Modem from the first drop down box, and Windows 8 from the second to filter the results. This driver is the most up to date driver from Lenovo for Bluetooth on your machine with Windows 8. Since the device is recognized and turned on in BIOS, the computer is recognizing it, even if Windows is currently not. This driver will hopefully make Windows recognize it and get your Bluetooth working back properly.

Hope it helps, and let me know how it goes,

Adam

Question: Thinkpad S430

I just bought an S430. It often comes up with a üpdating Windows Configuration...do not turn off the computer"which gets up to about 30% complete. Then it says that the process has failed...reverting. What is wroing and what do I need to do to fix it?

Answer:Thinkpad S430

On the last start it ran chkdisc twice with a shutdown restart in between. The "Failure configuring Windows updates"occurred again. It is followed by " reverting"with yet another shutdown restart. So two restarts in the one start sequence and about 10 minutes. On a new laptop! Any help out there? Is the second one a Windows 7 issue?

Have this issue constantly with my Win 7 pro S430. Get good network speeds to my home NAS, normally about 7 mins to copy a movie. Frequently that will increase to 30-40 minutes until I restart the laptop. Then its back to the normal 7 min speed. Any ideas on what could be causing this? I make sure nothing else is hogging the network and have ensured that the driver is up to date.

I have recently purchased a Thinkpad s430, with a 256GB SSD.All is working well, however I need more disk space.I am trying to work out if I should go an buy a larger SSD, say a 512GB, or am I able to take advantage of the mSATA slot. I have tried to research what I shoudl purchase by looking at forum posts, but I am a little confused and dont want to make the wrong purchase, hence the post. Q. How do I know I can use the mSATA, did I need to purchase an option in order for the mSATA slot to work. Q. If the mSATA slot is just there to be used, but I just purchase an mSATA SSD and have it as a secondary drive? This would mean minimal impact to my current setup. Q. With regards to SSD's I saw on another post that mSATA (3Mbps) is slower then the SSD HDD (6Mbps), is this correct, and is this going to be a major issue, I plan on using the extra space for VM's. Given the performance improvement from HDD to SSD, is there much more improvement from 3Gbps to 6Gbps?

Hi.My new Lenovo S430's Trackpad works most of the time but sometimes just suddenly stops working and I have to restart the laptop using keyboard navigation Often this happens when the machine is under load like an antivirus scan or similar. Sometimes the Trackpad is also sluggish to respond, like it ignores the first touch. The Trackpoint and mouse buttons (the ones above the Touchpad) work for the first 3-5 minutes after boot up and then suddenly stops working and doesn't start again until it's restarted. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling most of the drivers (for various other issues) on the machine but it hasn't helped. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Answer:Edge S430 - Touchpad, Trackpoint & Mouse Buttons Not Functioning Correctly

News on this problem: now nothing works except the keyboard. I'm stuck using a usb mouse. The bios config page for keyboard/mouse only shows options for the Fn keys. The laptop also bricked itself briefly and gave an error beep (1, 3, 3, 1) which seems to indicate a problem with the DIMM or system board. What can I do? Will a system restore help or should I just send it back? I need help.

Hi I have replaced the original hard drive in my Thinkpad s430 with a Samsung 850 EVO SSD and done a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit Once its booted up its works perfectly, but I have terrible trouble getting it to boot reliably. I will often end up with "Attempting Automatic Repair" bootloop followed by blue screen of death with Unexpected I/O Error Error code 0xc00000e9 Sometimes entering the BIOS and then exiting again will get it to boot up successfully. I've tried everything I can download from Lenovo website latest BIOS update 2.60, lates chipset update, lates SATA/AHCI storage controller update etc. Most likely cuplrit I think is the SATA/AHCI controller driver QuestionsDoes anyone have a Samsung 850 EVO SSD running successfully as the internal hard drive in an S430?Are there any drivers or firmware updates that need to be applied to the Samsung Drive or the S430 to get the two to work reliably together? When my S430 does boot up with the SSD it takes about 2-3 minutes. The old hard drive which is ten times slower boots up to login screen in about 30 seconds. Need help please?

I've noticed there are a lot of issues reported with usb 3.0 on lenovo laptops. Mines is a little different to the ones I've read so far.  Its an iomega drive and is usb 3.0, it was working a few months ago but recently decided to stop. I have no idea what could have changed to stop it from working, I use this particular drive infrequently.  The issue is that I connect the drive t the laptop, it lights up but doesn't get detected at all by windows. so far I've done the following: - checked the drive letter in device manager- unisntalled all usb devices from device manager and then rebooted and re-installed- re-installed the Lenovo USB 3.0 extensible controller drivers- tried the Intel variant of the USB 3. Hello,

I am not familiar witheither  the ThinkPad S430 or the Iomega external USB 3.0 hard disk drive, but I wonder if the latter might not be receiving enough power over the USB cable.  Does the Iomega drive have an option to take power from an external AC adapter or second USB port?  If so, try providiing additional power and see if that allows the drive to be recognized when attached to the ThinkPad S430.

Hey guysI've read the guide on how to add more RAM to my laptop (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=PD024449), but I still got a question.Do I have to remove the battery before adding the memory, or is it enough to just have the laptop turn off. there is an option to disconnect the battery within the bios menu, this would allow you to do once off RAM upgrade. It automatically resets the battery to reconnect after you restart the laptop.

Hi, I bought a Thinkpad Edge S430 with regular HDD + 16 GB mSata SSD for "Express Cache". Now, when I open diskmgmt.msc, I see that this SSD drive is divided in 2 partitions :one of 6,91 GB "Primary partition"the other of 8GB  named "Hibernation partition". Why is it so ? Hello, please read the following thread below.  The idea is it can store the entire memory on the SSD for a fast resume, and this explains the different types with Intel's Quick Start.  One thing to note, if you only have 4GB of RAM (which I know you have 8, but for us Twist users with 4), Lenovo's preloaded image is wasting 4GB of your SSD... which is kind of annoying (unless you upgrade which us Twist users can't do).  As for removing it I'm interested in what you'd lose.  If it's only resume capabilities I'd gladly remove that partition (as long as it still booted up fast from a cold start).  Perhaps 'someotherguy' will help. http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/Sleep-vs-Hibernate-with-the-Twist-and-SSD-Cache/m...

Hey folks, had a bit of bad luck. Two months ago I bought an S430, the harddrive failed a week ago. Thankfully the people at Lenovo promptly sent a new hdd in the post (cheers!), but it was sent without any OS etc, as I kinda need my laptop up and working as fast as possible (I have moved to a new country, do  not speak the language, and need the laptop to figure out directions etc). Now to the problem I am having: The laptop refuses to boot off of the DVD drive. I have tried Windows 7 and a plethora of Linux distros, but it simply refuses to boot (the closest I have gotten was xbuntu, which gave me the "do you want to install or try?" screen before giving me a black screen no matter what I choose). I choose @boot from DVD rom", I can hear the dvd spinning up, black screen for a few seconds, then it dumps me back at the "choose boot device" options page. Has anyone had the same problem? and perhaps found a solution? According to the BIOS screen I am running v2.07.

I upgraded my S430 hard drive to an SSDMy operating system is Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bitI took a screenshot of my Windows device manager before upgrading the hard drive and it had no unknown devices and included one device called "SM Driver"Now after upgrade I have one unknown "PCI Device" with an exclamation mark and no device called "SM Driver"I have installed this Chipset driver and it has not resolved the problem http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds032281

Answer:Thinkpad S430 missing SM Driver in device manager

Zero help on this forum? I re-installed my old 7200rpm spinny hard drive to see what the driver was for SM Driver device Turns out it was a file called "psadd.sys" which was contained in C:\DRIVERS\SMBIOSDRV directory on the old hard drive Now before I did that, with the new SSD drive I downgraded the BIOS from 2.60 to 2.59 and then upgraded it to 2.60 but that did not install the SM Driver component in my Device Manager. Lenovo udate did not install it. So if my old hard drive was not still functional, how can anyone get this psadd.sys file? Lenovo update does not have it. Windows update does not have it. Lenovo's website does not have it. What else am I missing I wonder??? My laptop only boots up about 50% of the time from the SSD. I am now unable to upgrade from W8.1 to W10 due to inability to reboot reliably, so every attempt to upgrade from 8.1 to 10 bombs out.

Hi all, I hope you can help me with a little problem I'm having. I bought a shiny new cool S430 (3364CTO) in late November 2012 and got a windows 8 upgradeoffer voucher with it in the box. I was happy to take the offer and install windows 8 professional that I got for just 15? thanks to this voucher. After installing all the drivers and thinkvantage products I noticed my expresscache isn't working, but too much work made me forgot about it until a recent harddisk failure. After the harddisk was replaced the friendly guys from the service offered to send me Windows 8 recovery disks but somehow couldn't manage to, and sent me windows 7 recovery disks instead. So I called them again and after explaining my problem I got a link to a software instead of new DVD's: I was asked to go to http://support.lenovo.com and watch out for knowledge base article HT074404 which I did. They explained there that I need to download a software (lenovo readycache 1.0.94, about 132MB)According to http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=HT076406 this should be exactly the way to go - so I considered myself happy, installed, rebooted and then the bummer: I need to have a serial number to use this software it seems, and there is no way that the phone support can help me with this they said. The guys are extremely friendly and helpful, they said that they want to try and find a solution and that it could take up to a week or longer which seems only fair - but I thought tha... Read more

Hi guya,at the moment I am trying to get all drivers together for the new windows 8.So far so good. I got almost all, but the newest BIOS Update contains an README which is mentioning to install a specific USB 3.0 driver prior flashing the new BIOS.But where can I get the driver? Also for windows 7 there has been a chipset-driver, will there also one in windows 8? In the download section you can download a driver for the use of the caching-ssd called Intel RapidStorage, but as far as I know, does Lenovo use Expresscache under windows 7..   mentioned abstract from BIOS-Update: - Lenovo recommends to install the USB 3.0 driver for Windows (Version  1.4.0.225 or higher) prior to updating the BIOS. Because the BIOS requires  the modification in the USB 3.0 driver to fix USB 3.0 related issues.

My aged father has just rung me with a prob - he cannot log into his computer. He says he has never had to before and claims he has never set up a user name or password for Windows 7. On start up he was always automatically taken to his desktop. Now though, the sunflower icon and password box appears on startup - where user name should be it just says 'user'. What can he do?

Answer:How do we resume automatic login to Windows 7

Try just clicking on the logo. Sounds like he might have just logged off before and not shutdown!

Hey guys,  So I closed the lid on my Thinkpad, with Chrome and SuperAntiSpyware running. After opening the lid after about 5 minutes of standby time, nothing. The screen was black as if it was turned off, but the HDD was still whirring. Neither tapping the keyboard nor pressing the power button roused Windows from its sleep. So, for the first time, I've had to turn off my Edge by holding down the power button for 3 seconds.  Is this a known issue on ThinkPads, or was I just unlucky? I've had issues with my desktop (not Lenovo) in the past with standby causing problems with the system BIOS; maybe it's an issue with Windows? Take care guys, Louis Vallance

Hello to all.
I bought recently the P100-437. In general I am happy with my laptop but there is an issue that I am trying to solve and unfortunately I can't.

When I put the laptop in Hibernation and close the lid then when I open the lid the laptop automatically resumes windows. This has put me into troubles when I had to pass from some security checks in the airports.

So, I am looking for a way to stop this automatically resuming on lid opening.

It is really important to do that. Do you have any suggestions or the way this can be done??

Regards,

G.

Answer:How to disable automatic resume on Satellite P100-437

Hi,

I think there is no possibility to help you out. When putting a machine in hibernation, then thats the only function which brings the machine back to life.
It?s probably implemented in the BIOS and maybe not changeable.
So you can try to access the BIOS and to look for an option which sets that whole hibernation thing, but I don?t think you will have luck.

You will have to shutdown your computer every time if you don?t want to have some bad situations which you told us.

Question: reboot on resume

I upgraded my dekstop HTPC to w8 from w7 yesterday and am having issues with sleep mode. it worked perfectly in 7, but in 8 when I press the power button on my mce remote it puts the computer to sleep no problem, but when it wakes it up it simply reboots. it sounds like it's coming back on fine, then it reboots and never shows anything on the screen (until post) and no dump files. the biggest conundrum and the fact that I don't think it's a driver or other kind of problem is that wake-on-lan works fine and wakes the computer with no issues whatsoever.
he only indication I get that there was a problem is from event viewer that talks about losing power. "Event 41, Kernel power. The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

Answer:reboot on resume

Store bought or self built? How did you upgrade; describe? Clean install or reuse existing partition structure? Details please.

Hi there!

Well... after thinking I had my reboot problems fixed, today I had this issue... I was just browsing using Firefox, and suddently, the mouse lagged, just before the system rebooted unexpectedly. This happened before... but strangely, just happens when I'm using Firefox... and not all the time... it's more like random... I can be safe during months, and then, BAM this happens, and only using Firefox.

Looking at the event viewer, I get a WHEA-Logger Error 20, Component AMD Northbridge, Exception in machine check, Error in watchdog in Hyper Transport with procesor ID 0.

The other is a Bugchek 1001 error, which I guess, is just product of the reboot itself.

I attach my file, according to the instructions, to see what is wrong. I have the latest Chipset drivers from AMD, as well as teh WHQL 17.4.4 VGA drivers installed. My Laptop specs below. BIOS version 1.13 Insyde, all defaults, nothing changed

This just seems to happen with Firefox... Photoshop, Clip Studio and even using OBS Studio don't trigger this, and haven't done ever...

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help, guys

Or any other help.THANKS!

Answer:I have lost my Recovery HDD with pre installed windows 7 on ThinkPad Edge 13 edge PLS Need HElp!

This is why one should burn recovery media before fiddling with the HD.

One option would be to download a legal Windows 7 ISO and install it.  Or borrow one.  You can use the product key on the bottom of your machine (or in the battery compartment) to activate the installation.  You may have to use the phone option to activate.

Working Legal Windows 7 Download Links

To do this you must install the same version of Windows that came on your machine - but it can be either 32 or 64 bit.

Your machine came with Win7 Home Basic 32.  I can't say for certain that these "all version" ISOs include that version, but you can try and see.

Once you have Windows installed, go to the Lenovo support page and enter your machine type.  That will take you to a list of drivers and apps to download.  Expand the ThinkVantage option and install ThinkVantage System Update.  You can then run it and it will download and install the other software automatically.

I'm basing this on what I see on the US pages.  Yours may be different.

Good luck,
Z.

I recently put together a new machine and it works flawlessly, except for one niggling issue.

Whenever I hibernate the system and then resume it, after ten minutes of being "resumed" the system always reboots.

There is no bluescreen, no error message of any kind, or any other indication that anything is wrong after the resume, but after ten minutes (don't ask me why it's always ten minutes) the reboot happens every time.

I am at a loss to try and troubleshoot this, and a google search yielded no helpful links.

Perhaps someone here has an idea?

Answer:Reboot after hibernation resume

If you need help, please fill in your system specs in your profile and not in a post in this thread: System Info - See Your System Specs

Also, even though you are not getting a blue screen crash, please follow the http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html to provide us with your system/application Event Viewer logs. They may indicate why the system is restarting.

It seems to me, that my t500's battery lasts longer if I do fresh boots, than if I resume from sleep. Anyone else notice this?

Thinkpad T500 - Intel Core2 P8400 (2.26GHz), 4 gigs of ram, 160GB/7200rpm hard drive, ATI 3650 GPU, WSXGA+ panel

Answer:Less battery after resume from sleep, than from reboot

The system does use up batter while in sleep mode. It simply shutdown all unnecessary components but there are still juice flowing through memory etc. A compromise would be putting it in hibernate mode where memory get flushed into drive. This way you get faster boot time w/o using up battery. However I have so much problem with inconsistent restarting from hibernate from the past that I generally stay away from it.

Hello again jcgriff2 and thanks again for your help in the past.

I just picked up a laptop from a friend and am having some BSOD issues with it. So far it has only been happening consistently when the system attempts to resume Windows after going into sleep or hibernate mode. I am also getting intermittent BSODs when rebooting or shutting down.

The system specs are:

Asus G72GX Laptop
OS - Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo P8700
RAM - 6 GB
Video - NVIDA GeForce GTX 260M
Anti-Mal - Microsoft Security Essentials

Everything on the system is OEM and I ran a fresh full restore when I got it. I've updated the drivers from both Asus and Nvidia to the most recent on everything (I think).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Scott

Answer:BSOD on Sleep, Hibernate, Reboot, Resume

Have a look at this thread for the STOP 0x116 errors (that's what you're receiving): http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-loc...eshooting.html

If it's not overheating, and you've updated the drivers - then you may have a problem with the video card.

The date of your video driver is:

nvlddmkm.sys Fri Nov 20 22:40:46 2009

Please visit http://www.nvidia.com/object/noteboo...7.16_whql.html and download the latest video drivers for your system.

Then - uninstall all the nVidia stuff from your system, reboot, and then install the freshly downloaded drivers.

Also, please remove or update these older drivers that were loaded at the time of the crash. Don't use Windows Update or the Update drivers function of Device Manager.
Please use the following instructions to locate the most currently available drivers to replace the one's that you uninstall OR remove:

Quote:

How To Find Drivers:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

I have a C710 2856 that shuts down immediately rather than resuming after restating or from sleep. Anytime I restart, everything closes and the screen goes black as it should, but turns off rather than rebooting. When resuming from sleep, it turns on for a couple seconds, then shuts off. I've reset my Chrombook and even reinstalled the OS to a clean slate, but the problem continues. Any suggestions?Thank you.

Answer:C710 does not properly reboot/resume from sleep.

If you've successfully restored the Chrome OS image, it doesn't sound like the hardware is bad or I would have suspected it to fail during that process as well. Unfortunately, I don't have any other ideas based on the information provided and I might suggest contacting your local support team.

Hi all, got a bit of an annoying issue I'd like help troubleshooting.

Updated my old laptop from 7 pro to 10 pro (x64). All went pretty smooth. However my wi-fi is being a bit temperamental. After boot up, reboot or resume from sleep the wi-fi does not automatically connect. Manually connecting fails. However right clicking on the wi-fi symbol in the taskbar and selecting 'troubleshoot problems' fixes the wi-fi in about 2 seconds. So this is what I have to do every time now, not the end of the world but none the less annoying. It will work flawlessly until a reboot or enter sleep. Troubleshoot gives no details or indication as to the problem.

My wifi card in device manager is ID as: Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN on a Lenovo Thinkpad T61

Thanks for any pointers or help.

Answer:Wi-fi unable to connect after reboot or resume from sleep.

This is the intel wifi card famous for wifi problem, I came across sony vaio ultrabook (2013 make)SVP1321DCXS searching this on amazon customers review mention wifi problem, along with PC that has this wifi card. This problem exists all along with wins 7, 8 and 8.1, I had one Sony 2008 edition has exact same problem with yours. Like you said this is not the end of the world yet it is the end of Sony PC. Beware of Intel wifi card, beware the ides of march when friends carry daggers.

Hello,With my previous Thinkpad X61s I was able to press Fn key and use some alpha keys as a numeric keypad but with my new Thinkpad X1 there is no such feature. I have some applications which do require the use of numeric keypad (note that the keycodes received by the OS are not the same if the normal numeric keys are used). Please, do not suggest to plug an external USB keypad or keyboard, that's, of course, a solution (which I don't like at all). Anyone has some suggestion to overcome this problem somehow? Thanks!Kind regardsBoyan

Answer:Numeric Keypad (on Fn+alpha keys) missing on Thinkpad X1 and Thinkpad Edge

As you are experiencing Fn+ alpha numeric keys are not working, I would suggest you to please update the Power Manager software and also update the Bios of your system from the below mentioned web link.

After this, please restart the system and check if the issue resolved.

Hello, I just bought an Edge 15 and I'm wondering if backlight bleed is a common problem with it. There are several places around the edge of the display where the backlight discolors the screen. I've attached a picture; note the top edge of the screen especially. Is this normal, or is it worth looking into a repair?  Also, I'm surprised that this model does not appear on Lenovo's website at all. I have only found one review for it, and it seems Best Buy was the only one to sell it. Anyone know about that? EDIT: Apparently my thread was moved to the ThinkPad Edge forum, though I'm pretty sure that this is not a ThinkPad Edge series device (as far as I can tell that series was discontinued and this was not ThinkPad branded). If someone could clarify that would be awesome. Thanks!

Greetings and Merry Christmas all, I'm encountering a perplexing problem involving my T61 with fresh Vista SP1 install always crashing + rebooting upon resuming from the standby or sleep state. Steps to produce error:1) From normal desktop, Fn+F4 or use start menu to send T61 into Standby or sleep mode.2) Wait until thinkpad is in the standby/sleep state.3) Press Fn to wake the  thinkpad up. Result: Instead of waking up to desktop, machine reboots. If 'automatic restart' is not selected in the Vista settings for error handling, Thinkpad will remain at a blank screen state and be unresponsible to keyboard command (requiring a power button restart). I have repeated the above steps with no USB devices plugged in, my wireless card turned off. Do not start the free trial of Malwarebytes. Just use the standalone version, update it, and scan your computer once a week with Malwarebytes and with Microsoft Security Essentials.

After installing your security software, update it, and then run full scans today with each program. Report back the results of the scans.

My laptop is a Samsung NP880Z5E. Runs a i7-3635 processor. Came with dual graphics chips: Intel HD4000 and AMD Radeon 8700. The computer, when bought new, was running Windows 8.1, but has been running Windows 10 for months. Currently running Windows 10 version 1607.

On January 14th the sleep function, which had been working perfectly since the computer was bought, including while on Windows 10, stopped working. The computer seems to go to sleep when I close the lid or click the power button, as I have it set up to do, but when I open the lid or click the power button to bring the machine out of sleep, the power light comes back on solid and the fan starts back up, but the screen stays dark. If I leave the computer alone, after about two minutes the computer will boot up, but not from the sleep state, it performs a complete reboot.

Here are some things I have tried, in no particular order:

- Made sure the "upgrade" results show that I have the latest and greatest updates for the computer
- Using device manager have uninstalled and re-installed what Samsung and the updater say are the "latest" drivers for my computers' configuration of the two graphics cards. Have also tried the truly latest drivers for the graphics card from Intel and AMD although to use the absolute latest Intel driver requires a manual and not automatic installation.
- Tried having the hibernate file on and tried having it off using the powercfg \h on or off command
- Hybrid sleep i... Read more

Answer:Dark screen on sleep resume, then reboot from bugcheck

There does seem to be a problem with the resume power function when waking from sleep.

Hi everyone, I'm wanting to buy a new laptop and currently deciding between this ThinkPad Edge E540 (479 Euros) and this refurbished ThinkPad T420 (299 Euros) I'll be using this almost exclusively for working with audio (music production, DJing, recording & listening to music) and almost nothing else - I run Ableton and Traktor which are quite CPU-heavy so the processor is quite important.Whichever I bought I would be taking the DVD drive out and putting in a SSD for the OS and my programs, and I would also be adding an extra 4GB of RAM.I don't have much money at the moment so the 180 Euros I'd save by buying the refurb would be very appreciated, however I really don't want to compromise the speed/lifespan of my laptop.---So my question is, how much do you think a 3-4 year old T420 (which from what I understand are one of the best laptops ever made) would compare to a brand new Edge E540 in terms of speed, and which do you think would last longer?---Thanks in advance for your input.

Hello! First post on this forum but been browsing for some time. My machine: ThinkPad S430, type-model: 3364-5HG, Win 7 x64, 500 GB HGST HDD. My problem is notably similiar to this one: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht082504.The problem occurs on very irregular basis, at times a couple of times a day but other times it goes weeks between the interrupts. It starts with some sort of short mechanical sound from the HDD, similar to the one when you turn the laptop of by pressing and holding the power button (only do this if I absolutely have to, it feels like choking someone with a pillow). After the sound, the screen freezes for a couple of seconds before the short bluescreen mentioned in the link occurs. The rest is as follows by the link above. Basically the only difference is the HDD brand (HGST in my S430 and Samsung in the link). After reboot (with power button during the automated reboot after bluescreen when the error code occurs), the laptop works fine.  It's getting quite annoying when this happens and also the suspension of not knowing when it will happen next is not good for my heart. What to do? Thanks in advance! Regards,Nicholas

Hi!I bought the s430 yesterday and exchanged the hdd with a ssd. I tried to install windows 7 ultimate (sp1), but the drivers for  Ethernet-Controller, Network-Controller, PCI-communications controller and fingerprint sensor are missing, I can't find them on the support page. Also you can see an unknown device in the device manager (Hardware ID: ACPI\LEN0068 *0068). Another problem is, after installing the Ultranavdriver, I couldn't use the touchpad anymore, trackpoint still worked, after deinstallation the touchpad worked again. Last but not least, the Power Manager doesn't recognize the storage battery, the computer tells me there's no battery installed. With the hdd and the preinstalled windows, everything works. I installed all the OSfixes, all available drivers. Does anyone know what's the problem? edit: I found most of the drivers on the hdd in the c:\swtools\drivers folder. Ultranav and Power Manager now work properly. But in the device manager you can see that the PCI Simple Communication Controller still isn't installed. Hardware IDs: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E3A&SUBSYS_21FC17AA&REV_04PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E3A&SUBSYS_21FC17AAPCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E3A&CC_078000PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E3A&CC_0780

download Thinkvantage System Update, it should pull the necessary drivers from the central database for your machine.
