Hi Finlander,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m really sorry to hear that you are having trouble with Touchpad and TrackPoint in your Lenovo S230u.

I would recommend you to update the Ultranav Driver to the latest version and check.

In order to disable the touchpad, go to Control Panel -> Mouse -> Ultrnav -> Uncheck Enable Touchpad checkbox ->OK.

Hope this helps!

I just got thinkkpad T570 (512 ssd, core i7, windows 10 pro, 16 ram, UHD).Usually the movement of touchpad is perfect, when I just move the point with doing nothing.  However, when I open pictures, setting and access to websites ( even this website), touchpad, trackpoint adn mouse are getting slower, does not move seconds, and losing the cursor, and moves sort time, this happens constantly, then eventuall, the cursor keeps freezing. I tried to move touchpad, track point and mouse, moreover, typing keyboard, nothing happens. but when I turn it off, into sleepying mode, and turn on. Then it works. Is there any solution to this issue?

Answer:How to disable touchpad in the thinkpad twist s230u?

Go into BIOS (Press F1 during startup), go into Config tab, then choose keyboard/mouse, and normally there is option for disabling the trackpoint and trackpad (don't think the twist has it).

Hi, I got an S230u Twist last autumn and have been really happy with it. At the time, I ordered a set of replacement rubber TrackPoint caps. When I replaced the original cap the other day, I realised that the replacement ones are about 0.5mm shorter than the original one, with the result that the H and G keys get caught on the edge of the cap; you have to hit them quite hard to get them to work. I compared all the new caps from the packet against the original one, and sure enough; they're all a little too short. They fit, but it's annoying to have to go back and make sure all my ""G"s and "H"s typed correctly.  Has anyone else had the same problem? Lenovo, could this just have been a bad batch, and if so can I return the unused ones for a replacement set that is the correct height?

Answer:S230u - replacement trackpoint TrackPoint caps are too short

If you bought them from Lenovo I'd just try and return them. If not dispute on eBay/PayPal/Credit Card. But never use poor quality TrackPoint Caps. Remember if a computer is running efficiently so is the person behind it generally.

Thinkpad Yoga user here.  I'm having a problem when I wake my computer up from sleep (or sometimes on re-boot) the trackpoint and touchpad do not work.  The touch screen is still fine and if I plug in a USB mouse the cursor shows up then. This has been happening intermittently over the past 2 months or so, it is becomming more frequent. It usually requires a hard reboot (where I hold the power button until the machine turns off) before the trackpoint and touchpad come back.  Recently even this hasn't worked every time.  It has come to the point where, if I put my computer into sleep, there's probably a 75% chance the pointers won't work when I wake it up and that it will require multiple re-boots to get them back. I don't know if this is an issue with the synaptic drivers (I've updated them, reverted to older versions, uninstalled and reinstalled but the problem continues). Or maybe it is a hardware problem, I'm not sure. If anyone (preferably lenovo) has any suggestions on how to fix this, I wold be very appreciative. Thanks!

I bought a new T61 Thinkpad recently. From the begining I have been having problems with the trackpoint and touchpad mouse. At a time only one works and it is mostly the touchpad. I checked the BIOS setting and it is at automatic for both touchpad and trackpoint. Sometimes even the touchpad does not work. I have to restart the laptop couple of times for something to work. I have tried disabling touchpad in BIOS and end up not having the trackpoint also not work.In the thinkvantage productivity center it says that ultranav is not installed and I downloaded the ultranav update from lenovo website and installed it. Still the trackpoint does not work.I love the trackpoint and I hope some one can help me figure out what is happening.thanks

After using the ThinkPad Yoga 260 for about two weeks, both the trackpoint and touchpad are now unresponsive. I've tried updating the drivers, rolling back the drivers and uninstalling the drivers and installing the latest one. None of it works. I managed to get it working once with a BIOS update but as soon as I put it in sleep mode, both became unresponsive again. Under Mouse Porperties the TouchPad option is grayed out and the TrackPoint option is sometimes grayed out and sometimes not. Regardless, it is completely unresponsive when enabled and disabled.

Hi, the touchpad and trackpoint in my X220 notebook don't work. I've tried under Windows 7, 8, 10 x64, and Linux too, but no success. I've tried several drivers, UltraNav and Synaptics with no results. They are enabled in the BIOS (ver. 1.42). The device manager recognises the hardware as "This device is working properly." Please help.

I have a Thinkpad T440S and have a problem that many have reported. The trackpoint and touchpad initially work upon bootup but then stop working after a few minutes.I believe I've tried everything (uninstall/reinstall drivers, replace keyboard, replace hard drive and do a complete reinstall of all software, update everything, etc etc etc). Nothing works and the only reason I can still use my computer is that a wireless mouse will work. It's time to get a new computer. I've bought Thinkpads for more than a decade but I still see this problem being reported for the T470 so Lenovo can't or won't bother to fix this. Any suggestions for a different brand and model? I do like the trackpoint so does that mean Dell is my only alternative?

Hi to the forum.   I am a newly registered user of this forum but have been using Thinkpads for quite a while (T30, T43 and T61).   The T61  - 8891-CTO -  is rather old by now too and recently exhibited the 1 long and then short beeps and would not boot.   The GPU most likely overheated - a guess.    Following online hints I did manage to get the system back.   However, in the process something must have gone wrong and the Trackpoint/buttons and the Touchpad do not work anymore.  The BIOS does report them both as present and they are set to 'automatic'. Finding some mention of fuses on Thinkpad motherboards online I was wondering if there is a single fuse for both the Trackpoint/buttons and the Touchpad somewhere on the T61 motherboard and if so, could someone please point out where that fues is located? thanks, Anton

The touchpad and trackpoint work up until the point where I login. They work on the login page, but not after. I am running Windows 7. When I go to the mouse settings, they are both disabled, but it is grayed out and won't let me enable them. When I click fn+f8, nothing happens. This problem has been occurring for about a week now...the pen still works as a mouse however, and that is what I have been using

Hi all. I've seen this issue posted about many times before and can't get a hold of lenovo. When I try to use the "contact us - email" page the link doesn't work!  I have a x250 I purchased in 2015. It has been working great until recently. I usually use the trackpoint and have the touchpad disabled. Recently it just stops working and the only way I can get the mouse to function again is by using an external standard mouse. When I go to mouse settings it doesn't even recognize that I have a touchpad/trackpoint, even after installing updated ULTRANAV drivers. This also extends to the keyboard, some days the keyboard will not work at all. The only thing I can do is restart 100 times and cross my fingers it works one time. I've tried moving the mouse at the login screen, pressing firmly on the touchpad, etc. Nothing works aside from the off chance it cooperates after restarting. So, I have updated drivers numerous times for windows 10 and yet my trackpoint/touchpad still seem to rarely work. I am out of a warranty on this so I'm not sure what to do. My boyfriend is suggesting a factory reset, does anyone think that will work or have any other ideas? Thanks.

I am trying to find a way that the touch pad and trackpoint will disable when I connect an external mouse.  Other computers I've used have a setting for this, but I can not find one the Carbon X1. I don't want to disable them permanently (or at least not both of them) for those few times I'm not using an external mouse. My preference would be to disable one permanently, and the other only when an external mouse is present. Thanks

Answer:Disable touchpad and trackpoint with external mouse on Carbon X1

Hi, mkmchughIf there is such an option available, it would be with the mouse settings. Do you see anything related to disabling them with a USB mouse connected when you go to Mouse under Control panel and go to I believe is the Thinkpad tab?

Hi there, I have a weird problem. First, I am running Windows 7 beta (build 7100) on my T60 (type 2007), so that could be the reason, and I assume it's probably software related in any case. But anyway, in case some of you have experience with the problem, here goes. The other day the mouse buttons on my UltraNav, for no apparant reason, stopped functioning. The trackpoint is working fine as is the middle scroll-button and the touchpad. But I can't left or right-click. Both the buttons above and below the touchpad are gone. Pretty weird, as the upper mouse buttons are connected through the keyboard-connector-cable and the touchpad and the buttons below that are connected via a seperate cable. I've checked the settings in the UltraNav tab and they're ok, and I'm using the latest driver (9137), and have tried reinstalling it.No luck. Any ideas - besides reinstalling/downgrading Windows, which I'll probably do anyway if nothing else helps?

Hi,I've a Lenovo T61 laptop. All of a sudden the left click has stopped responding on trackpoint, touchpad & mouse. Through none of the options the left click is working. Tried googling out but found no workable solutions. Please help. Laptop OS is Windows Vista 32-BIT. Thanks & Regards,Gangadhar

Answer:Issue with left click on trackpoint, touchpad and mouse - Lenovo T61

Hello,

A few things to try:

?  Create a new user account, login using that and see if the problem still occurs.  If the problem goes away, then it is due to software running under your user account.
?  Start Windows in Safe Mode and see if the problem still occurs.  If the problem goes away, it was due to an application which runs on startup.
?  Boot the computer from a Linux Live CD/USB and see if the problem still occurs.  If it does, then the problem is not due to the operating system and you are dealing with a hardware issue.

In the case of the latter, the usual fix would be to replace the keyboard.

I was having responsiveness issues with the trackpad for a while, then, i open my laptop one day and it's completely unresponsive, as well has the backlit keyboard not working (the hotkey still pops up that it's "lighting up" the keyboard, but no actual lights) and the trackpoint being completely unresponsive too. I've tried:- Restarting computer- Using Lenovo's various "fixing" softwares- Looking for a keyboard firmware shortcut for enabling/disabling trackpad, (doesn't exist on this computer)- Re installing drivers (Ultranav driver refuses to install manually, "driver installation failed")- Booting on a non microsoft OS (Booted on a linux Mint installation and it still doesn't work)- Booting into BIOS and looking for "enable/disable trackpad option", That option does not exist for me.- Opening up computer and checking the physical connection, All plugged in fine. When i open the device manager in windows there is no entry for the mouse whatsoever. The touch screen and the pen both work fine. I think it all points towards a hardware issue, i can pick up another trackpad on ebay for pretty cheap, but obviously i'd like to make sure that it would actually solve the issues.  The major confusion for me is that why would faulty trackpad hardware stop the backlit keyboard from lighting up? How are the two linked? Any ideas appreciated, Thanks!

I grabbed the 5/2011 drivers for UltraNav from the Lenovo site and it appears that an option 'to disable the integrated pointing devices when an external pointing device is present' does not exist, or at the very least I can't easily find it.  Please please please please tell me I'm simply being dense and this behavior is very easy to enable. Seriously, the 5-year old Dell drivers I had with my old machine did that, and this is driving me BONKERS. Alternatively, if what I'm doing here is feature-requesting, I'd be like 50% there if I could Fn+F8 and have an option to kill both the touchpad and the trackpoint - alas, I can disable 1 or the other BUT NOT BOTH WITH THAT OPTION.  Can I really not disable both? Lenovo W520, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

Answer:Option to disable UltraNav (touchpad + trackpoint) when external mouse is connected

I've never seen such a feature with the UltraNav drivers. You could just max out the PalmCheck and then set it to touchpad only.

Hi.My new Lenovo S430's Trackpad works most of the time but sometimes just suddenly stops working and I have to restart the laptop using keyboard navigation Often this happens when the machine is under load like an antivirus scan or similar. Sometimes the Trackpad is also sluggish to respond, like it ignores the first touch. The Trackpoint and mouse buttons (the ones above the Touchpad) work for the first 3-5 minutes after boot up and then suddenly stops working and doesn't start again until it's restarted. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling most of the drivers (for various other issues) on the machine but it hasn't helped. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Answer:Edge S430 - Touchpad, Trackpoint & Mouse Buttons Not Functioning Correctly

News on this problem: now nothing works except the keyboard. I'm stuck using a usb mouse. The bios config page for keyboard/mouse only shows options for the Fn keys. The laptop also bricked itself briefly and gave an error beep (1, 3, 3, 1) which seems to indicate a problem with the DIMM or system board. What can I do? Will a system restore help or should I just send it back? I need help.

Hello all,I just got my Thinkpad T420 two weeks ago. Solid laptop overall, but recently I have some problems with my touchpad and trackpoint. There is a big movemental gap of the cursor when using trackpoint, and the touchpad is unusable. This happened once last week but then it disappeared after I disabled and then re-enabled trackpoint/touchpad, changing sensivity... Yesterday it happened again and this time it wont disappear after applying the same method. I tried updating the drivers, as well as reset BIOS (boot to BIOS -> F9 -> save) but none helped. I'm dualbooting windows 7 & arch linux, and the problem is present on both of the operating systems. This is really frustrating. Can someone please give me some suggestions what I could do to get rid of this annoying bug. Thanks very much.

I have been trying to update my nearly year old Twist's BIOS since I have been having issues with random screen autorotation, and I also have the 5 beeps, pause, 5 beeps issue at boot up (it otherwise boots fine). When I run the Lenovo Flash BIOS Utility, either on its own or from within System Update, it cannot read the BIOS and eventually aborts. I downloaded the Bootable CD version, burned the ISO to first a USB flash drive and later a conventional CD, and neither worked.  I did reset the BIOS settings to legacy mode and turned Secure Boot off, and changed the boot order in order to get it to boot to the right media.  My system is trying to boot from the media as configured but is stating it is not bootable.  I followed the instructions on Lenovo's official drivers page to ensure I was doing it correctly. I'm currently running BIOS version 1.53 and Windows 8.1 Pro Preview. Any ideas?

I am having problems with Trackpoint and the TouchPad.  I had to disable Trackpoint because it was constantly clicking and opening anything it was pointed at.  The TouchPad pointer will not click and open anything, though, oddly enough, it will work if the computer is placed in standby mode for a lengthy period of time. I have reinstalled the original OS and other software several times now, including reinstalling the latest ultra nav driver and have all the other latest updates (BIOS 1.45).   I find it unlikely that this is a Hardware problem, but I have not been able to fix it with the software reinstalls.   Could it be the SSD? Is anyone familiar with these type of anomalies?   Any ideas for a fix? W510 4318CTOQ820 @1.73Ghzwin7 64bitfactory installed128gb SSD12gb ram

Sometimes, more often then helix is unplugged from power abapter, touhpad and trackpoint just stops warking at all. Keyboard working fine. Sometimes after about 30sseconds of tapping, mouse cursor moves a little, or touchpad "returns to live", but for about 3-5seconds, and then "dies" again. All drivers are updated from Lenovo site with their latest versions.OS doesnt matter, happends on windows 7 and windows 8 both.

Answer:Helix touchpad/trackpoint problems

Hi, mr_Jack

I would recommend uninstalling the current driver and see if it is the driver that is causing the issue. This can be accomplished by navigating to Control Panel ? Device Manager. While in Device Manager, open the tree labelled Mice and other pointing devices. Right-click on the device and select Properties. Next, navigate to the Driver tab and click on Uninstall... at the bottom. This will uninstall the driver, which will allow Windows to install a generic driver. If the generic driver functions without issue, then I would recommend either trying to reinstall the UltraNav driver or giving the Synaptics base driver installed, which can be found here.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Hi, I recently disassembled my Thinkpad W520 to clean out the fan and check a few things on the motherboard and when I put it back together both the trackpoint and touchpads have stopped working.  The trackpoint is attached to the motherboard at the same connector as the keyboard which works fine and I was very careful with static, dust, etc when I dissambled everything so I don't really see how anything could have gotten damaged.  First time I turned it back on the trackpoint worked fine but I had forgotten to plug the CMOS battery back in and when I went back and did that it stopped working.  Not sure about the touchpad, I dont use it much so didn't check it at first.  So far my attempts to uninstall/reinstall the drivers haven't helped.  The touchpad's no longer recognised in device manager but the mouse and keyboard are (and nothing's turned off in the BIOS either).  Is this just a sign of a bad motherboard or am I missing something easier to fix here?  Up until this point everything worked fine other than some USB issues which were do to a physical connetion problem.  It seems strange that the keyboard is ok but the mice dont work. Anyone have any  advice or suggestions?

Answer:trackpoint and touchpad problems - W520

Hello S_Zahara, Motherboards are the most sensitive and delicate part of the computer. It may be possible that when you removed the CMOS Battery, that may have changed some settings in the bios. Make sure the trackpad is enabled in your bios settings. Also, to make sure the CMOS battery is getting a full charge, leave your computer on for 24 hours. If the problem still persists, I would reseat the track pad to the motherboard. Hope that helps.

I am having persistent problems with the touchpad and trackpoint on my L530.  I prefer to use the trackpoint usually, and found that the touchpad was super-sensitive and caused the cursor to jump around during normal (touch) typing so I disabled the touchpad.  Next time the thinkpad resumed from sleep mode, the mouse was frozen.  Nothing would reactivate it.  I had to switch user, which temporarily fixed it, and then reactivate the touchpad.  If I try and change trackpad settings at any time other than directly after a reboot, the settings are greyed-out and I can't touch them. Right now, both trackpad and trackpoint are completely dead again, but I've plugged in a USB mouse and that seems to be working, so I've given up fiddling with it.  This will be a pain when I'm moving around with the laptop though! The OS is Windows 7.  Yesterday I went looking for the most recent driver, uninstalled the existing one (as per guidance) and installed the new driver.  No luck.   I've heard this is a common problem and apparently installing a generic driver works, but I'm not completely sure what to use.  Anyone know?  Oh, and I'm not sure if this is related, but quite often when I resume from sleep mode the keyboard is also dead.  However, if I switch user it comes back to life.  So annoying but not the end of the world.

Hello! Please help me, I've tried uninstalling and installing the UltraNav drive without success.Block trackpoint, and even use a regular mouse. My problem is as follows:The Trackpoint cursor is moving alone. After disabling the trackpoint, I could use the touchpad for a normal time. Then the cursor touchpad is also moving alone. And the same happens with the mouse.Furthermore, the lower right touchpad button does not work as secondary click. Works just like the left, a standard button click. And sometimes not even working. Please help me! This is bothering others. I have to hold the trackpoint cursor to stop moving alone and to use normal mouse. Windows 8.1 64, ThinckPad Edge E430, core i5.Thank you!

My laptop uses a track point mouse, which is a red covred plastic thing in the middle of my keyboard on my laptop. I am using an IBM thinkpad 600x laptop. Anyways, my mouse on my laptop is broken. it goes all over my screen and i can't control it. it is spastic, and it does not move alot of times as well. And I have tried to disable it, but it did not work. Also, when I plug a regular mouse in, it works fine, unless the trackpoint is acting up. I want to disable the trackpoint mouse, but still use a regular mouse. Is that possible?

Hi, I just got my Twist and while using it I've noticed that when using the TrackPoint's scroll feature in the Modern UI or any Modern UI apps that it acts like I'm using the arrow keys, this is most evident in the Startscreen. It works as expected on the desktop and trackpad scrolling works as expected everywhere. The first thing I did when it got home was to run all the updates that everything wanted, so I am on the latest driver. Anyone else experiencing this and does anyone know how to fix it? EDIT alternatively since this is my first Thinkpad, is this behavior normal?

Answer:s230u trackpoint scroll acting funny in Modern UI

I think this is normal. Frankly, if I'm using a modern UI program I'm probably scrolling by touching the screen anyway, so it isn't something I often notice.

My ThinkPad Twist (s230) works amazing with Windows 10 except for one nagging issue: the TrackPoint and it's buttons (the three buttons between the trackpad and the space bar) to do work after resuming from sleep.  The only cure is to restart the computer, which is a hassle if I had a lot of programs/apps running..  I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Lenovo drivers and the BIOS and all other devices are up to date.  My install of Win 10 was a clean install, not an upgrade. Any suggestions?

This particular model has two of these indicators, one on the back of the lid, and another next to the keyboard. The one next to the keyboard still works fine, but the one on the back of the lid stopped working altogether in the past day or so. This laptop is only a month old, so I suspect it's a software malfunction and not faulty hardware. It would be nice to get this handy little feature back. Thanks!

Answer:ThinkPad logo "i" LED indicator stopped working on ThinkPad Twist (S230U)

take the hdd out and start the laptop without the hdd, if the LED light doesn't come on then you have a hardware problem.

Hello, I am currently using a Thinkpad T430s and I was wondering if there is a way for me to disable the touchpad when the mouse is on. I do know how to manually turn off the touchpad but I want to find an option where if I plug in a mouse, the computer would automatically disable the touchpad. Also another question I have is, is there a way to increase the speed of the touchpad? I am currently at my max speed for my touchpad's sensitivity from the Control Panel -> Mouse Settings. Is there somewhere in the UltraNav where I can increase the speed even furtther?

I have two Lenovo laptops. As many people have noted, the touchpad can cause unwanted behaviors when simply typing. This often causes the pointer/focus to jump to another point while typing.Ideally there is a simple way to toggle the touchpad on and off depending on whether an external mouse is attached (I am sure it is far too much too expect that Lenovo has a mechanism to automatically detect this condition and make the adjustment!)The "help" solutions I have seen include: 1) pressing fn+f8 (does not bring up the screen indicated, and indee the key on my two laptops indicates a different function for the f8 key)2) Through control panel, go to mouse and open the UltraNav tab and click a box to disable. However neither of my laptops have an UltraNav tab there. Instead there is a tab labeled "Thinkpad" which on my 11e provides NO "disable" option and on my E440 allows you to set various combinations of touchpad and touchpoint options, NONE of which include disabling both.3) Through control panel / Devices, disable the touchpad. There is no "disable" option available there.4) Toggling the touchpad on and off by shutting down, interrupting the boot process to enter Bios settings and turning off the touchpad. A solution that requires a user to contstantly change bios settings is so unweildy and riduculous that no further comment is neccessary. (I am running Windows 7 pro... the native OS on both laptops and any "solution" that involves Windows 8 or 10 is not an acceptabl... Answer:Disable touchpad on Thinkpad 11e and Edge440 which do not have Ultranav tab in mouse settings

Solution!!!(At least for the 11e!) (Like many people, the touchpad is only of any use to me in an emergency situation. I normally use an external mouse. Negative side-effects of the touchpad make it imperative to disable it under normal operations.) From total frustration, I tried uninstalling the touchpad drivers. Well, on the next reboot, the system automatically reloaded the drivers. !!! Then I swallowed hard and decided to disable the touchpad through BIOS as suggested by a Lenovo tech in a reply to another user. Ultimately I reached a resolution, which is not perfect, but so much better than the lack of configurability provided by Lenovo. This worked for me. No guarantees for you. Step one: Go to http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds027949 and download the outdated version of the synaptic driver/application. The name of the file is 0dtp02ww.exe it is version 15.2.7.0 and it is dated 3/16/2012. Step two: Remove the Synaptics *APPLICATION* (not through "Device Manager") through control panel- applications. Step three: Run the file downloaded in step one. Step four: Open Control-Panel. There are several ways to get to the mouse configuration screen. One way is to just type "mouse" in the search box at upper right.. Under the options returned as "Mouse" click on "Change mouse settings". You will see that the "ThinkPad" tab has been replaced by one with the red and white Synaptics logo labeled "Device Settings". That ta... Read more

I recently replaced the palmrest on my T520i only to discover that the new palmrest didnm't come with a touchpad sensor mouse board. I'm not referring to the sticker that goes on top of the touchpad but the actualy board that goes beneath it on the underside of the plastic case.I ripped the old touchpad sensor mouse board from the old palmrest and tried to attach it to the new one without any success. So, I purchased a replacement touchpad  sensor mouse board from eBay (Touchpad Sensor Mouse Board Synoptics TM1240) and I'm hoping someone here can help me figure out how to properly apply it.Here are some photos for reference:The other side of the Touchpad Sensor Mouse BoardThe adhesive side of the Touchpad Sensor Mouse BoardThe underside of the palmrest. The Touchpad Sensor Mouse Board goes in that rectangle.I guess I want to know how I should orient the touchpad sensor mouse board. I would also appreciate any general advice on how to best complete this task. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

New ThinkPad T440p and the first issue I encountered is there is no option to disable the touchpad when an external mouse is detected. I don't want to do it via the bios or some other hack as I use the touchpad when it is not convenient to use an external mouse. So it should be able to do the switching as needed, this is a simple feature that other manufacturers have had for years and years.  I already upgrade the UltraNav Driver to the latest v18.0.7.57 and that didn?t present a solution. I am running Windows 7 SP1 - 64bit.

Answer:Thinkpad T440P no option to disable touchpad when external mouse is connected

It's technically part of the driver, so try the registry edit here if you can't find the option in UltraNav settings:http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-turn-off-touchpad-when-mouse-is-connected-in-windows-78-1/

I previous versions of the ultranav driver there was also variables for "automatic touchpad disable" but, is not present in latest drivers. It is very annoying to go all the time to ultranav settings and disable and enable the touchpad.Thanx.For info: My ultranav driver is :18.0.7.57, im on windows 7 pro, i have no option to show the tray icon, no option to "automatic disble/enable touchpad"

Answer:s230u Twist and touchpad problem

Hi, lucien62

How long have you been having this issue? Has it always acted this way, or did it just start recently? In either case, I would try uninstalling the UltraNav driver from Control Panel ? Device Manager. While in Device Manager, open the tree labelled Mice and other pointing devices. Right-click on the device and select Properties. Next, navigate to the Driver tab and click on Uninstall... at the bottom. This will uninstall the driver, which will allow Windows to install a generic driver. This will show whether the driver was the issue, or if it could possibly be hardware-related.

Best of luck. Let me know how it goes,
Adam

Hey there antondutoit and welcome to the forums!,

I believe you are referencing the ambient light sensor. Poking around I was able to find another thread similar to this issue, and I think it points us in this direction.

You may want to adjust the settings on this to see if it helps in your case. Check out this nifty knowledgebase article.

The solution for these types of symptoms:
To disable this or make changes to the settings, go to the Advanced Section of the Windows Power Settings >> Display >> Auto Dim.

I hope this helps!

I'm new to the laptop scene (always had built desktops and a tablet). For the most part I love my ThinkPad, except 2 things. The soldered RAM, and the fan is loud. I've read Lenovo factory clocks fan settings slightly higher than other manufacturers, and that increased noise can be appreciated. My problem is the slight rattling or uneven hum that the machine emits. That just sounds like a cheap fan. My question is about the availability of laptop replacement parts. Since my 4gb of RAM is soldered to the m-board, can I, or possibly in the future, buy a new motherboard with 8gb of RAM soldered on? I've read the battery is not replacable as well? If so is it attached to the moboard as well. Then replacing the whole thing could be the triple threat upgrade down the road when my battery life is diminishing! Any experience on the matter is appreciated!Elle

It is unclear exactly when the problem began, but there was a windows 10 update, then a bios update shortly before I noticed the problem.   The touchpad behaves erratically, selecting/unselecting or inserting text at a rate that does not allow control of intended tapping actions.  Pointer features seem to work fine, erratic behavior involves tapping only.  I believe the bios is the most current version, and I have updated the touchpad driver.  It is not clear to me whether there is an issue with the bios or touchpad driver installation or software, or if the touchpad has failed.  Looking for help to figure out how to resolve the issue.

WWAN 3G modem is optional upgrade, but it occupies the same slot as the mSATA. As far i know, if you have Win 8 and platter hdd, the WWAN slot would have a 24 gigs or 32 gis mSATA card in it. Widi is supported on the Intel wireless-n 2200 wireless card.http://www.thinkscopes.com/lenovo-thinkpad-edge-twist-review/i this review a while back, not the most detail since i only had a very brief look at the machine.

So I have a Thinkpad Twist S230u and I recently updated it to Windows 10. After 3 days, I turn it on again and a black screen just goes through. I replaced the hard drive with a Terabyte of SSD but it does not turn on?? No sound is made. When the old hard drive was in there, everytime I pressed the power button, a small "zzzz" sound is played from inside the computer.  Assuming the computer is dead, and it is also out of warrarnty, should I sell it for spare parts? How much should I list it? I spent a 1000 dollars on this computer and dont want it to go to waste after i bought it in 2014.

Got my new TP Yoga and have problems with my touchpad and cursor: when moving around the screen it selects text as if I was trying to, say, copy and paste, it captures blocks of text as if I am trying to move them around, without me trying to do this.Initially I updated drivers through the Lenovo Solution Center, including UltraNav drivers. Answer:Thinkpad Yoga touchpad and cursor problems

I was thinking perhaps the click sensitivity is too high? i do not have this problem as you have described, but for me, the synaptics touch pad is practically unusable. I've been looking for a fix to my issues as well, as many people claim that calling lenovo leads to shipping it back for repair and ending up in a far worse condition. Did you recieve the trackpad with the oleophobic coating that causes high friction as opposed to the supposed glass feel? my issue is that when moving the cursor diagonally on the trackpad, it obviously creates squiggles up and down as if the cursor does not have a full range in motion.

So I've had this Yoga 12 for about 3 moths now. In the past month, after I installed a new windows update, the touchpad and trackpoint would not work, like it was disabled. I tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling-- did not work. I even reset the computer. STILL DID NOT WORK. So I ran the driver verifier which told me that the one of Lenovo products had problem with it--I don't remember which one-- so I uninstalled it. Still didn't work. After all that, I tried for the last time to uninstall the synaptics drive. When I uninstalled it... it was still there! I don't know how, but it was still there and now the touchpad and trackpoint both works. Well, sporadically. It will work for a few minutes, then won't work for a few minutes (or more). So.. that's where I am now (actually, right now, as I am writing this, only the trackpoint is working. oop nvm it stopped working). Any thoughts on how to fix this problem? Thanks! Also, when the touchpad & trackpoint works, the windows buttons are more condensed, while when it doesn't work, the buttons are more spread out (see below links). "condensed""spread out" p.s. also, does anybody's computer lag severely when you press the CapsLock button?? Which kind of disables the keyboard for a solid 7 seconds???

According to your full model number, I can recommend you first to check the Lenovo support site for your model and update the latest drivers.

But there had been also reports that some trackpads of the Thinkpad Yoga 12 had some issues ( ThinkPad Yoga 12 manufactured prior to October 2015. )
Here it is the link about it, please check it out.

I own a SL300 and I've noticed a very annoying lag in the touchpad (and a strange sluginess in system overall performance). I've read the threads in the forum and tried the following measures: While in Vista Business (out-of-the box) -disabled ultranav driver and replaced with standard microsoft ps/2 -downgraded AHCI driver  -disabled devices one by one (wifi was disabled in BIOS) and checked DPC latency for results Checked DPC latency and noticed some improvement but the touchpad remained uncomfortable. Tried to use XP Recovery CDs: DPC latency was better (as expected) but not adequate. So, again I tried to: -disable ultranav driver and replace with standard microsoft ps/2 -messed with AHCI driver -disabled devices one by one (wifi was disabled in BIOS) and checked DPC latency for results With no noticeable improvement. Yesterday I've upgraded to the latest BIOS revision and it's all the same. I'm very frustrated - I like my SL300 but I'm becoming convinced that this model isn't a real Thinkpad.  Thanks for any advice or help,--Tiago Cruz Message Edited by tjcruz on 01-15-2009 10:30 PM

Answer:Thinkpad SL300 touchpad and DPC latency problems

And another thing I noticed: even if reverting to the windows default mouse driver solves the lag there's still an annoying random "jumpy" behaviour. Nobody noticed that? Sometimes the mouse pointer stops or jumps. Thanks for your support, --Tiago Cruz

I bought Lenovo ThinkPad Twist S230u 13-inch convertible 2 in 1 touchscreen laptop (33476LU), on the 24th of March from Amazon.  I received it on March 26th.When I received it I installed Microsoft Office and iTunes.  After that I didn?t do anything anymore.  On the 28th of March I sent it to my friend and she just received it last Monday, the 7th of April.  She started to use it but just last night she?s having a problem already without even exploring the laptop too much.It kept on rebooting on its own and kept on freezing.  She tried to reboot again but it just stays on black screen with Lenovo logo.  I told her to just shut it down and try to open again this morning.  The computer turned on but it gives the following messages:Your PC needs to be repairedA required device isn't connected it can't be accessedYou'll need to use he recovery tools on your installation mediaIf you don't have any installation media  , contact your system admin it pc manufacturerThe application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errorAnd she noticed that it?s getting hotter than normal. How can we troubleshoot this?Thank you and help is greatly much appreciated

Hello, I own a ThinkPad S230u running Windows 8.1. I was in the BIOS trying to resolve a startup error and I reset the boot priority order to default, not knowing it would remove Windows Boot Manager from the list entirely. It does not even appear in the exclusions list; it's just gone. Now, everytime my ThinkPad starts up it goes to the boot menu. None of the options currently listed lead anywhere, only looping back to the same place. So for now, it seems like I'm permanently stuck in the setup and diagnostics screens with no way of accessing my operating system. Occasionally the startup results in the "2100: Detection error..." screen. Hopefully, the drive is not corrupted and there are no significant hardware issues. I'm not tech savvy at all; I just sort of know my way around the basic desktop interface. If anyone can enlighten me on how I might be able to recover the Windows boot tool or access Windows RE from the BIOS/diagnostics screens, then that would be greatly helpful. Thanks.

Answer:Thinkpad twist s230u - unknown devices

Hey there rpjonny,

This seems to be an ongoing issue with a few machines, and may be related to some the problems that are going on in this thread.

If you will, go to the Device manager. You will need to make the Unknown Devices visible, they will only show on Device Manager if Show Hidden Devices is checked. From here, run the system update on the solution center once more. This should identify them or give some indication to what they are. From the thread listed, as well as a few other threads, it seems that this is tied to the WiDI offered by Intel on some of the WiFi cards. It would be prudent to then go to the Intel and use their Intel Driver Update Utility. Hopefully this helps you.

The Subject sort of explains itself, however I will add some more infromation for convenience sake: Generally speaking I think of myself as fairly knowlageble about computers and their hardware. When it comes to laptops however I'm not so knowlagable, thus I would like to get a professional oppinion on the subject of SSD for laptops. So I'm thinking of getting a Crucial m500 SSD (I'm so happy with my older m4 that I have full confidence in it's stability and speed) with 240GB of storage space, it comes in both mSATA and in the regular 2.5" x 7mm format. Thus I ask wheter or not to choose 2.5" or mSATA for my Thinkpad s230u Twist. It already has a 500Gb  Hitachi harddrive provided originaly by Lenovo, thus if I choose the mSATA I would be able to have a total of 740Gb of fast and reliable storage. What are your oppinions on such an installation? should I just go for mSATA or choose the regular 2.5" format? Rainmaker91 P.S: I should probably just inform that Lenovos solutions is not an option due to it's extreme price and the drives beeing outdated. Also I don't need the Lenovo warranty and support due to the "Warranty" provided by law in my country.

Answer:mSATA or 2.5" SSD for Lenovo Thinkpad s230u Twist?

Hello,

I personally would go with the mSATA SSD.  Although it might be a little slower in synthetic benchmarks because it uses less flash RAM chips?using many of those in parallel is what gives SSDs their high read and write rates?in real world usage it will be faster than any conventional rotating media disk drive.

You can then use the 500GB Hitachi HDD for data storage, less-frequently-used programs, backups and so forth.  When you are ready, you can replace that with a conventional 2.5" (but 7mm high) SSD and use the S230u as solely solid-state ultrabook.  Of course, you could then get an external 2.5" USB 3.0 hard disk drive enclosure and continue to use the Hitachi disk drive for backups.

Hi I have a s230 u that I dropped so HDD has crashed and going to replace it with another hdd (presuming cost is much less than a SSD) and don't know which make, model would work (assuming ebay is easiest to buy a replacement). How do i know what makes and models would fit/work ie just plug it into the slot. The current HDD is a Hitachi HGST HTS725050A7E630 2.5 SATA thin 500GB 7200RPM which i think is 7mm. So I could buy the exact same make and model or buy a newer one from Hitachi/other vendors. So trying to figure out which ones will work and also where to buy cheapest one (other than ebay) (and what I need to check before buying, assume 2.5 inch and SATA and any HDD should work?) Thanks Shriram

Hello, I own a thinkpad twist s230u (3347 4HU) purchased 3 weeks ago. From the moment I turned it on, it has a major issue. The cursor goes on the right side of the screen, it flashes and it opens windows and applications itself whether it runs on desktop or on tablet mode. The problem appears every time I use the laptop and I can?t do anything. I can?t  write text anywhere due to the cursor flashing. Also most of the times that cursor flashes, the screen jitters too! I updated the bios system to 1.57 version so as most of the rest software including Atmel touch controller firmware update tool, Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver, Auto Scroll Utility and many others. I also ran linux ubuntu from a usb flash memory but the problem still existed. So it is not a windows 8 or a driver failure. I noticed that few times when i  turn around the screen or I change screen?s angle, then the problem temporarily subsides for less than a minute. I am very disappointed and frustrated. I never expected to buy a Lenovo product with such a problem. Could anyone help me?

My HDD died suddenly a few weeks ago and took everything with it..Before that I had successfully updated from the original Win8 to 8.1 and later to Windows 10, never losing any functionality. With the new hard drive I now have performed the 3rd clean install, including one off the recovery files in the computer (was not aware of that funtion at first), with both 32-bit and 64-bit varieties, but I have been left every time without the touch-screen functionality of the system. The Device Mgr simply does not show any trace of a "HID compliant touch screen", neither hidden nor in the open.=> What drivers do I need to download (from where?) and install, to get the OS to "see" the hardware?I have tried the "System Interface Foundation" install, but without any visible success. Thank you

I got fancied by a 2 minute preview of the Lenovo Twispad by a store associate and some online videos and decided to buy it. Now I am repenting my decision like a drug addict in rehab. I have multiple issues with this. I would've returned it, got it replaced because it is still under warranty but the problem with that is that I've relocated to a different country and the warranty is not honored internationally.  Below is the list of issues I have in order of severity. The first one is killing me and I need immediate help with that. The others, I can still live with but would love  a resolution.  1) ** Severe ** . I am typing a URL in the browser address bar and it shows the home screen. I am clicking on a pictures, it shows the home screen. As if , somebody has been hitting the windows key. I checked , the keys are not stuck or pressed. I cannot seem to find a solution for it. Please help. 2) Levono tried to be too fancy and ambitious in making this piece of crap but failed miserably at it. The roation of my twistpad is so messed up. The problem is that when the computer turns on, it makes a loud series of 5 beeps, followed by a pause, and then 5 more loud beeps. Additionally, the auto-rotate feature is horrible and doesn't seem to work. Everything else works fine. However, I read in your community that I should update the BIOS to resolve both the beeping issue as well as the auto-rotate issue. I tried updating the BIOS using the Windows 8.1 Utility to do so, however it fails at the READ step. On your community, someone said that there is a Security setting that can be disabled in BIOS to get rid of the beeps. However, I'm also finding that if I try to load the BIOS settings (Press Enter at the Lenovo screen, press F1), the screen simply displays black and nothing ever comes up, therefore I can't get to BIOS settings to do anything. I should mention that I'm not using an external display in this scenario, as I realize that sometimes external displays are not able to display the BIOS due to low resolution. Summary: Loud Beeps & Terrible Auto-Rotate, Can't Update BIOS, Can't get into BIOS to change settings, everything else is working okay. Ideas? OS: Windows 8.1

Hi everybody, About a year ago i purchased the s230u, and had no problems with it. However, i spilt water on it and turned it on to try to salvage my work, and whenever there was a sound it made a static noise, or something like that. I tipped it over to try to make the water drip out, then it shut down. I need my computer for work tommorrow, please help.   Thank you, Sarah

Answer:Thinkpad s230u water spill - minor

Hi Sarah,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per your query we understood that you are facing the issue with Static noise on ThinkPad S230u.

As you have mentioned that the water was spilled on the laptop, and after that you are facing this issue, for this issue you can check it out in keeping the system idle for 48 hours, and you have to remove the battery from that.

You can also use a air blower with low speed to get it dried up quickly, or else you can visit nearby by service center for further assistance.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

I have an older s230u Thinkpad Twist that I barely use anymore because it has become abysmally slow.  I just want something lightweight to take to work with me other than my 17.3 inch Alienware beast that always gets wicked stares, and weighs over 20lbs in the backpack with the PSU.   A couple years ago I freshly installed Windows 10 removing all previous partitions, installations etc.  In the past I have always been **bleep** about imaging new PCs with Acronis, but some reason I cannot find the original image on my dozens of external HDDs I have laying around.   I have multiple questions regarding this: FIrst, the 24gb inlcluded ssd - Since I did a bare windows installation on the main drive, with no original drivers/bloatware left in the laptop, is this drive even functioning anymore? How do I know?  How does it even work? (I am not very savvy on the whole "hybrid" thing)  Microcenter has a 256GB mSATA drive for $70, if I put this in, will it even do anything, and how do I get it to function?  I would just assume store/run my entire system on this drive if it were possible.  I see it  in the disk management when I open it up, but no idea how it is actually working, if it is even working.   I have been able to take the laptop apart enough to find the HDD/SSD slot and the mSATA slot, so the harware installation is not a problem for me.   Would I be better off replacing the main mechanical HDD... I searched the forum for solutions but the previous posts are too old. This has happened several times. I use lock screen during the lunch hour, and when I wake up the laptop after typing in my password, everything works except the wire mouse. When it happened the first time, I thought my mouse was malfunctioning. Then when I tried it on other computers, it worked. Also, the other USB port did not recognize any device plugged into it (usb sticks etc). So I knew it was a problem with the USB ports. The problem began after I updated my system. I suspect it is because of an update to my BIOS. Now it is BIOS 1.65. I am not sure, so here is a list of what I installed, after which this problem began to surface: Realtek PCIE card reader driver 8.1, version 6.2.9200.29069Patch module for 32 bit version of lenovo patch utility, version 1.03Patch module for 64 bit version of lenovo patch utility, version 1.03password manager, version 4.40.4.0Thinkpad BIOS update 7/8/8.1 [32,64], version 1.65.1.65Lenovo power management driver - xp 32/vista/7/8/8.1; version 1.67.04.05Thinkpad hotkey features integration package setp - 7/8/8.1 [32,64], version 5.22.0000 Thank you.

E420S, Cannot get either to work. Cannot enable trackpoint or touchpad in UltraNav.

Answer:Trackpoint and Touchpad

Hi, ezedoh

The first thing I would recommend is the removal of the UltraNav driver from the system. This is best accomplished by using an external mouse to navigate the system. To uninstall the UltraNav driver, open the Start menu and type Device Managerinto the Search box, and then press Enter. Once here, double click on Mouse and other pointing devices, and then right-click on the UltraNav device. Naviage to the Driver tab and select Uninstall... from the bottom of the window. Follow the prompts to uninstall and then restart when prompted by Windows. Windows should install a generic driver for controlling the mouse. This should reinstate the touchpad to working order. If not, then continue using an external mouse for now.

Once the UltraNav driver has been removed, I would recommend trying to use the standard Synaptics driver found here. Synaptics is the company that develops the UltraNav software, so there should be no loss of compatibility/features. I have witnessed several cases where this driver has helped others with mouse issues, so it may help yours as well.

Hope it helps,
Adam

OK, T60 Notebook and suddenly the TrackPoint and TouchPad stopped working.  I checked under the ThinkVantage tools and they are enabled.  I checked in the BIOS and the device(s) are enabled there as well.  I've had a TouchPad go bad before but the TrackPoint still worked.  Kinda strange both would go down at the same time.  So, in short: 1.  Has anyone out there experienced this and if so, how did you fix it?2.  Does anyone have the part number for a replacement TouchPad (I've searched the site and could find dang near everything else, but the TouchPad) TIA!

Answer:TouchPad and TrackPoint

They're integrated parts of the palm rest. A cable connects all integrated parts of the palm rest to the machine. So I guess the cable isn't plugged in firmly enough. Remove the palm rest according to the hardware manual and check. If the cable has no problem, contact Lenovo to ask for a replacement palm rest.
