Only 32GB accessible on micro SDXC card via Twist media card reader

Question: Only 32GB accessible on micro SDXC card via Twist media card reader

I have a Twist S230u and just purchased a Transcend 64GB micro SDXC card (UHS-1 rated), which comes with an adapter to the SD interface that is compatible with the Twist's media card reader. Up to now, I have not tried to use any card larger than 32GB in the media card reader, and have never had a problem, whether using true SD cards or micro SD via adapters. But with the new card, I seem to be able to access only the first 32GB of memory. Once that limit is reached, files put on the card seem to go down the memory hole in a very strange way: As long as the card is active in the machine, files continue to transfer over to the card with no error indications. But if you try to read them, they seem to open as empty (perhaps as filled with zeroes?). The file properties show correct information, and there is no data access error in trying to open one of of these files, but application programs complain of corrupted (wrong format) data. Now, if you eject the card and put it back in, the system complains of problems and asks if you want to scan and repair. Electing to do so yields the baffling response that the card was scanned and no errors were found! On top of this, the system still complains of card errors and asks if you want to scan and repair. This cycle will continue indefinitely. But if you elect to skip the scan and use the card anyway, the directory seems readable, all the files seem accessible -- EXCEPT that files put on the card past 32GB have disappeared completely from the directory. Checking the card properties, it seems that the surviving files occupy a little less than 32GB -- 27GB is reported. Are there known problems with the Twist's card reader or its driver, which would be consistent with my experience as told above? Or should I suspect Windows 8, the card adapter, or the card itself? Can anyone at least help me narrow down the search for a culprit? Thanks in advance for any insights the community can provide.

Preferred Solution: Only 32GB accessible on micro SDXC card via Twist media card reader

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Only 32GB accessible on micro SDXC card via Twist media card reader

More information: It appears that the file system on the card looks OK to DSKCHK, but the dirty bit is set. Trying to reset it with fsutil, I am told that the computer cannot write to the card. I have tried to do this two separate ways: 1) by having the card (in its SD adapter) in the Twist's built-in card reader, and 2) by putting the card (in its adapter) into a USB SDHC card reader. The card can be read perfectly in both situations, but can neither be written to (including dirty bit reset) nor formatted. Command-line tools show the filesystem as extFAT, so it seems as if Windows 8 understands the card format. I alerted Transcend tech support to this and they simply replied that the card in question was 64GB (which I told them!), and I needed to be sure that my computer hardware could give me full access to the entire 64GB range. Can anyone point me to a spec for the S230u that says definitively what the upper limit on card capacity is through the built-in media card slot?

Hello. I have recently got a Linx 10 windows tablet (Intel atom based), but it only has 32gb of storage of which 24gb is available. I recently purchased a Micro sdxc class 10 card (benchmarked at 25mb/s read/write on the Linx10 with crystaldisk), i was hoping to install applications on it where storage speed would be less critical. When i try to install programs on it such as visual studio it states that i cannot install it on removable media and steam does not list it as a drive. Is there anyway to make the tablet treat the micro sdxc as if it is an internal storage device so that i can use it like a hard drive? Or are there any other ways to make applications install onto it?

Thanks for any help,
Aljowen

Answer:Install Desktop application on micro sdxc card

you would use your SD card for the systems storage - ie picture, video, doc's etc

Thus freeing HD space for apps

Answer:Ideacenter Card reader not recognizing 32GB SD CARD

Hi

Welcome To Lenovo Community

We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing,

Option 1
Update the card reader drivers.
Option 2
First insert the card in the reader in shutdown condition, Switch on the system and check if the card is detected

 Option 3
First click on Start, right click on Computer, on this menu click on Manage, window opens, click on disk management (on left hand side column),
Wait little bit while the right column is loading. Do you see your 32 Gb listed but not active?
If you do see it then click on it and wizard will walk you through the step to make this card active.

Do give this a try and let us know

Hope This Helps
Cheers!!!

Answer:H50-55 - Card reader problem with 32GB card.

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Did you try more than one 32GB card?  I'm wondering if the problem occurs with more than one card if the reader doesn't have limitation on the size cards it can read.  If it is just one  card having the problem, it might be a compatibility problem with that brand of memory card and the reader.

Going to get a 32GB Micro-SD Card for my Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL. Any suggestions on which one I should get? Scan Disk? Scan Disk Ultra? Sony? Some other Brand?

Answer:32GB Micro-SD Card Suggestions???

I would try to grab the cheapest one. PNY, Sony, Scan Disk are all good. Some places like Microcenter or Best Buy usually have them on sale or clearance. Go a little more and get something with a little more speed to it.
Also, check Amazon. They sometimes have Micro-SDs for almost nothing.

The X220multimedia card reader in the x220 works on the PCI bus and can read SDXC cards. I have seen comments here that it reads the UHS-1 cards. Can it make full use of the read/write speeds of the latest cards, such as the SanDisk Extreme Pro? Also, does it matter whether NTSF or exFAT is used when the card is used as a backup device, not intended for use in a camera? What are the advantages/disadvantages of using SDHC/SDXC cards for backup?

Hi, I have an Asus Transformer Book T100 and I wanted to use my SanDisk 32GB UHS Speed Class 1 Micro SD Card however when I copy files onto it (Usually large files) it starts to copy really slow but eventually stops. Comparing this to my 16GB Micro SD card which is only Class 4, it copies way faster. Both cards are SDHC andmade by SanDisk. Why is the 32GB card slower than the 16GB even though the 32GB card is rated faster?
Thanks

Answer:32GB Micro SD Card Slower than 16GB

It depends on what the speed class the 16gb is. SanDisk has the info on their website about this. Secure Digital - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

How can I find out if my SD card reader supports SDXC cards.
My laptop is a satellite A300 and the properties of the card reader say " SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controlle".

Am I able lto use SDXC cards with this device and if not am I able to upgrade the software to support SDXC cards?

Thanks for your help

Answer:Satellite A300 - Does card reader support SDXC cards?

Hi

I read in the forum about the card reader on Satellite A300 and I found very useful info.
The card reader supports following kind of cards:

- SD Card - 8MB-2GB
- SDHC Card - 4GB
- xD picture card - 16MB-2GB
- Memory Stick - 8MB-256MB
- Memory Stick Pro - 256MB-2GB
- MultiMediaCard - 8MB-1GB
- miniSD (with SD adapter) - 32MB-2GB

As you can see teh SDXC cards are not supported... in such case I recommend using an common external USB card reader which would support the SDXC cards

I have a Lenovo IdeaCentre, purchased only four weeks ago.  It product family is IdeaCentre k410, machine type 10089.  Anyhow, the problem is: I inserted a microSD / microSDHC, both of which seem to fit into the slot fine, though neither registers under anywhere in windows explorer, neither in the root of C://, nor in any of the subdirectories, or on the main listing of mounted file systems.  I used the Lenovo Driver Updater and re-installed the SD Card Reader driver, to no avail.  Any help would greatly be appreciated.  As well, the computer runs Windows 8, which has some features I'm unhappy with, and although this is not a windows forum and I don't mean to create a thread that deviates from lenovo-specific topics, I was wondering if there is anything in either the machine architecture or the software of Windows 8 that could hinder m in installing a dual-boot system so that I might have the option of running a variant of linux as a sub-operating system, as I did with windows XP.?????  OK any help at all would be so greatly appreciated, thank in advance.  I really want to be able to retrieve some writing files I have stored in that micro SDHC card.  As another aside, does anyone know the max limit of RAM this computer can take and if it is DDR or some other type?

Answer:SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC/MS/MS Pro card-reader slot not showing up in windows explorer.

hi BrokenHalo,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Regarding your questions:
1. When you inserted the SD card, do you hear a sound that a device is inserted and under Device Manger, do you see a Card Reader?

If not, try to:
a. boot intto the BIOS by pressing F1, load defaults by pressing F9 then press F10 to save and exit BIOS.
b. Reseat the front panel connectors (see page 23 of the hardware maintenance manual)

2. To install linux (i.e. Ubuntu), see if you can install Ubuntu via UEFI. If you're unable to do so or if you want to install other OS, try to:
a. Boot into the BIOS by pressing F2 and set the following settings below

UEFI Boot Mode = Legacy
Secure Boot = Disabled  (if applicable)
CSM = Disabled /  Legacy or Other OS (if applicable)
OS Optimized Default = Disabled or Legacy (if applicable)

b. When finished, press F10 to save and exit BIOS then try to install Ubuntu via Wubi or insert your Windows installation disc to install a different OS.

3. As per this pdf data sheet, the Lenovo K410 has a max RAM of 8GB PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3  but Crucial reports that this unit can take up to 16GB PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3 - check this site.

Hope this helps

Windows gave me a error so i tried using the SD card formatter form Home - SD Association but it also gave me an error "memory card is write-protected" i have looked for a solution but i cannot find one.

unfortunately, i don't know what information i should provide about the SD Card

If you are using SD card adapter to insert into the computer SD slot.
At the side, there is a small switch, just either move (flick) up &or down.
This is to lock the SD from doing anything, as similar to CD disc.

You can add Video folders on the micro SDXC to your Video's Library in Windows 8.

Then when you set up Media Center browse to the Library where the video files reside and you will then be able to play all of the video files which reside in your Video's Library from Media Center.

Shawn's tutorial on adding folders or drives to the Library's should be helpful.

Questions: Can I use Flash memory card instead of DVD's to make Recovery Factory image? If so, would 32 GB memory card suffice? Is flash card better than DVD...to keep. I learned from my google/internet research there are all sorts of flash cards. Is this the right flash card for what I intend to do?

Sorry I really do not know flash cards. ZERO. I notice from TV and movies, spies always insert what looks like this product to obtain classified information from PC when nobody is around....and they always seem to finish it just before the owner comes back....few seconds. One whole minute, tops.

Answer:W8 64bits and CF Compact Flash Memory Card reader 32GB

That is USB flash drive to be exact. But make sure to get at least USB 2.0 for better data transfer speed (3.0 is the best). I don't think there is an option for DVD image recovery back up anyway because the entire image is at least 12GB (dual Layer DVDs is only up to 8GB). But if your laptop has bluray burner, then it's possible. But yeah, you can use the USB flash drive with at least 16GB available storage space to create your recovery backup image.

Hi, The SD card reader in my laptop is not working. I have a Carbon X1 laptop (machine type 3443CT0) running a fresh install on Windows 7, 64-bit Ultimate edition. This is not the Win7 image that comes with the laptop, but rather a fresh installation of vanilla Windows 7 ultimate from a Microsoft DVD. I installed all of the relavent drivers for this machine from Lenovo's drivers page:http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT074689 Under the "Camera and Card Reader" category, I installed: Media Card Reader Driver for Windows 7, version 2.14.18.01, released Aug 13, 2012. The installer seemed to finish successfully and asked for a laptop reboot. However, the SD Card reader is still not working. Under Device Manager, in the "Other devices" category, I see "Base System Device" listed with missing drivers. Under the details tab of that item, I choose "Hardware Ids" under property. The vendor ID is 1180 (for Ricoh) and the Device ID is E822. By searching the pcidatabase.com website (below), I found out that this is the "Ricoh PCIe SD/MMC Host Controller" http://www.pcidatabase.com/vendor_details.php?id=1648  Are other people having problems with installing this driver? I also tried the Windows 8 64-bit driver, just in case and that is not working either. The SD Card reader works under Linux, but not under Windows 7, so I'm pretty sure it's a device driver issue, not a hardware iss... I have thinkpad w530 w windows 8.1 I am trying to capture video footage into my computer using a firewire card that of course plugs into the MEDIA CARD READER SLOT. I can't get the computer to recognize my camcorder- the camcorder connection does not show up in DEVICE MANAGER I am using HDVSPLIT to capture the video and also in hdvsplit there is a message, "camera not recognized" or something like that.  I am not sure if the media card reader is bad, or maybe the firewire card is bad or maybe it is the hdv split that is the problem? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Answer:How do I tell if my Media Card Reader/Express card slot is functioning correctly?

Hello,

Could it be the ExpressCard slot that the FireWire card plugs into?  I've never seen a FireWire card that plugs into the media card slot used for SD Cards.

FireWire cards can be a little tricky to get working sometimes, especially when interfacing with a camcorder.

Have you checked with the manufacturer to see if Windows 8.1 drivers are available for it?  Even if they are not, it may be possible to use Windows 7 or even Windows Vista drivers.

Once you have verified that the FireWire card is recognized, plug the camcorder in again, amd see if it gets recognized.  If it does not, check with its manufacturer for Windows 8.1 drivers, just like you did with the FireWire card.

At that point, the hardware should all be working with Windows 8.1.

It should work as long as it's a micro SD slot and the card fits. If not, you could use a micro to SD card adapter (available where most SD cards are sold) and plug it in that way. Either way, the reader should have no problem with it. Micro SD cards are just like SD cards, only smaller.

Is it possible to read microSD cards on the X200T using it's built in card reader?  I'm assuming you need an adapter of some sort, in which case I may as well just go and grab a USB microSD card reader, right?

Hello and good afternoon, to u all. I have some queries on behalf of a friend of mine that uses the nokia E63 mobile fone.Firstly he didn't know what kind of memory card the fone accepts, so I checked online and confirmed that it uses the MicroSD memory card. Here:click hereOur main query is that i'm looking to get a unversal card reader for him from ebay that can read not only his Micro SD memory card, but ALSO other cards.....but we have no idea, if we'll still need to get an adaptor to insert the memory card into....or whether the card can just be inserted straight into the card reader....Here is 1 on ebay:click hereSo for example will this one work with a micro sd card and if YES.....do we still have to get the adaptor for it, or can it be inserted straight into the card reader pls????Many thanks

Answer:Nokia E63 and Micro SDHC card reader

Copied this from the specs Slot 2 - Trans Flash and Micro SDLooks like it will accept Micro SD but adapters cost practically nothing, in fact you should get one free when you buy a Micro SD card.

Hi, I have read on the forum that people are using the SDXC cards with their Yoga 13's.I have purchased a Sandisk 64Gb SDXC ExtremePro card but when I put it into the Card Reader a blue screen comes up saying " Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart." It also gives and error with this message saying: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (TosExt.Sys). It cannot restart again until I remove the card, the same thing happens in SAFE MODE also or if I try to start the computer with the card inserted already. The card is brand new and I bought it in a reputable shop. I have tested the card in a Lenovo ThinkPad X230 and it works fine. I have also tried to insert a different standard SD card into the Yoga but the same thing happens. I have reinstalled the driver for the reader but the problem still remains. The OS is Windows 8 64 bit. The card is in ex FAT format and I re-formatted it again just to be safe but still no luck. I was not able to find anything regarding this online but saw that some people here have similar problems.I would really appreciate if someone could help or at least let me know if there is a way of contacting Lenovo about this problem, I see that they will only accept emails regarding the ThinkPad product line.Thank you in advance and best regards to all!

When I install the official driver of toshiba website the device continue without driver. How to solve it?

Is this micro SD card Reader a Realtek driver? or Alcor driver? In the official website say Realtek but this code is of Alcor I think:

This is Realtek driver, not Alcor driver:

Hey,

bought a new Samsung 128 PRO micro SDXC Card and insert it.
I format it with NTFS and card seems working.

I copied fotos on it and on some .jpgs i see yellow stripes.
First I think an issue with my camera. But I fail.
The simply copy process generates files with a wrong checksum! but the same size.
The issue faces on about 2% of my files. Not really much but very dangerous.

Is this card to fast for the internal cardreader?
The card works well on all my other PCs.
I am running Windows 10.

Last night the card reader was installed on the computer & used sucessfully on the first go. Tonight i have tried to use this again & for some reason it will not read the media card, followed instructions in the book....i.e click on my computer, double clicked on the drive that tells me where the card reader is & nothing happensa) Do i need to leave the cd in the drive all of the timeb) Can the card reader be left plugged in the comp or does it have to be removed after every time i have used itThis is the 1st time i have used a card reader, any advice on this would be appreciatedThanks in advance

Answer:Using a card reader with a media card

Is the card reader on a USB port - if so, unplug it and plug it in again and see if windows sees it. What is your OS? Win 98 will need drivers; win me/2k/xp should recongise it.

Hi does anyone have any idea why the autoplay keeps popping up when i insert my usb card reader with a samsung micro sd card 32gb into a usb on my pc i have xp and am simply trying to copy personal media from my documents, music specifically mp3 files, and autoplay just pops up, when i click in a file right click and send to removable disc e, it has worked fine in the past with my sandisk micro sd card but this samsung is pretty bad,so i checked it in my xperia z the files i put on a while ago appear to be fin and this has just happened recently, actually an error message popped up saying would i like to format my card why would i do that there is not anywhere near enough data on to justify that yet the next time i went to my computer and removable disc e properties it said it was only a quarter full, i'd love to know what this problem is also i was getting error messsages saying certain files were corrupted but they were original discs i ripped to media player and they are fin on my sandisk, can anyone help? Much appreciated.

Answer:autplay popping up when I copy media from documents to samsung micro sd card

The Autoplay screen in xp will always come up whenever you plug in a removable device because that's how windows will ask you what do you want to do with this device. If you want to disable autoplay & have xp professional follow the steps below.

1) Click Start, click Run, type Gpedit.msc in the Open box, and then click OK.
2) Under Computer Configuration, expand Administrative Templates, and then click System.
3) In the Settings pane, right-click Turn off Autoplay, and then click Properties.

If you don't have xp professional you can still disable autoplay by going into the registry but i don't recommend going into the registry unless you know 100% what your doing because you could accidently change the wrong thing & mess up your whole computer so i would use this Microsoft fix it tool to safely disable autorun. http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9741395

Hi - I have Windows XP & when I installed a universal USB 2.0 card reader, called "In put card reader" on the box, my computer re-booted several times and I had to use "last known configuration that worked" to get it to stop re-booting. Once I did that, I got an error message, Code 28. Something was wrong with the driver XP installed. Now, it won't work (not that it did in the first place). Can anyone help? Oh yes, the "About" says it's from C-Media, but I can't find a similar divice on their web site. It is not the 220, it says "C-Media USB 2.0 Full Speed Card Reader Monitor Verson 1.08, copyright 2003-2005. Thanks.

I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-W55. I "loaned" my cord to my bro's girlfriend to use on her camera, but I know I will never get it back.

I've decided to buy a new reader... looking at my Memory Stick it is called Memory Stick Pro Duo.

I went on Newegg and found Newegg.com - Transcend TS-RDM5W USB 2.0 Card Reader - Card Readers and Newegg.com - IOGEAR GFR209 12-in-1 USB 2.0 Pocket Card Reader/Writer - Card Readers.

Was wondering which one you guys would suggest, or if you have a better idea on what I should get.

I'd like to keep this under $20 if possible.

Thanks for your time!

Question: Media card reader

Posted this in windows and not in hardware cause it's windows's fault...I have a 4 slot media card reader. All 4 slots show up as 4 separate "removable disks" all the time. It's really annoying because everyone gets confused about which one is the flash drive they just plugged in. Can I change it so that the reader shows up only when there is actually a card in it? Also, it would be nice to remove it from the safely remove hardware thing since that completely shuts it off until you reboot. Also, if possible, I want to get rid of my USB WiFi dongle from the safely remove hardware list since I only safely remove it by accident all the time when I try to unplug my flash drive...

Answer:Media card reader

"USB-driveletter-mngr" - available as usbdlm.zip - do a search - wil allow you to turn off visibility on those you don't use or want to see.  It is useful with a reader left in place to label the reader itself for letter sequence which helps with ID of which slot = which drive letter. You could also if card reader left in - possibly use TweakUI to stop letters showing.Wouldn't have thought you'd need a reboot to reinstate reader, if it was ''safely removed'' during a session.  Your safely remove list tho will I think by default show all USB items active, except a hub which would show in Device manager.

Hello, I'm not sure if this question belongs here or in the Mac section, but hopefully I can be steered in the right direction...
I just purchased a Kingston Media Reader (FCR-HS3) to transfer files from my camera to my PC. However, It did not occur to me before buying to check if the reader might also work with my wife's Macbook. The packaging only indicates Windows XP/Vista/7 , but I read a few product reviews suggesting that it does (they did not definitively say so).

Will it actually work with both PC and Mac?

I bought the Reader on-line, so to save the hassle of mailing it back, I thought I might be able to check here first, instead of opening it, testing it, and then having to send it back.

Thanks very much for your time!

Hey everyone. I am having trouble with my Multi-Card Reader/SD Card Reader. I am trying to take pictures off of my SD card and put them on my computer. I have lost my USB cord for the camera and can't locate it at this time or I would do that.

So anyway, I put the card in the SD card drive and the green light does not come on. I then open up My Computer and the drive isn't even listed. I checked in Device Manager as well and as far as I know, it is not listed in there either. If it is, then it is under a name that I don't recognize.

So anyway, I would greatly appreciate some help in getting my computer to recognize my Multi-Card Reader/SD Card Reader.

Hi Guys.
I have a SWEEX 16 card reader attatched to my Windows XP Pro system.

It has performed without fault until today when I placed my
Olympus 256mb XD picture card
into the XD slot.

When the window opened it said card was not formatted and did I wish to format.
I cancelled this and promptly put the card back into my camera.
My camera asked the same question Do you want to format card.
When I grudgingly pressed yes it started to format then came up
CARD ERROR in big red letters!!!

Although the card had over 185 pictures on it (only half full)
when I transfered it to the reader it caused an error.

Can I sort this out or is the card beyond repair?
Why does this happen?
What did I do wrong if auything?

Help please.

Many thanks in advance

I bought this desktop computer last year.  On the front of the tower is a 7-in-1 multimedia card reader that the HP site says is compatible to the Memory Stick Pro.  Today my digital camera broke and when I removed its Memory Stick and tried to insert it in the computer, I found that the Memory Stick was much smaller than the 7-in-1 and never would set in place, so much so that it slipped completely into the reader and I had to use tweezers to pull it out.  It never locked into place so the contacts never could allow the computer to read it... it just laid there loosely.  The 7-in-1 slot is exactly one inch wide, while the Memory Stick Pro is 3/4 inches wide.  I'm disappointed that I was led to believe that my reader was compatible when it apparently is not.  Is there a way to make this work or am I going to have to buy an adapter to use just one time before I throw this camera away?

Sice installing my card reader, and setting it to AutoPlay, and process the pictures using Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard, all has been well. However, when I went to use the reader yesterday, there was no response when I inserted the card. Upon investigation, I noticed that the AutoPlay had changed to Music, and not to perform any action. I changed it back by selecting pictures, and to run using the MS Scanner and Picture Wizard again. I applied, and closed. Tried the card again, and no response again. Checked properties, and again, it had gone back to music etc. I removed the device, re booted, and plugged it back in, but I still cant get it to autoplay. Im running XP on an Athalon XP with 512 RAM.As usual, thank you in advance for your time and trouble. Cheers T:-)

My current digital camera does not have a USB interface. So, I thought I might look for a good USB media card reader. My camera uses the small, square media cards. Sorry, I can't remember what they are specifically called. Well - actually, the reader will be for my wife as it is her camera. That is why I can't remember the name of the media card. She is always complaining about how slow transferring is.

I do not need anything fancy. I am thinking maybe 20-30 bucks? Or maybe up to $40. Oh yeah - is the USB device worth the investment? Is it much faster than my previous interface?

Can anyone recommed a good one?

Thanks.

Answer:Looking For A Good Media Card Reader

What kind of camera? Model?

Memory card readers are great, but they break easily, at least from my experience. My friend has a 'base' that he bought for his camera, it is USB and he just places his camera in the base and it automatically transfers the pictures for him and it is very fast. I would go with a base or something first.

Answer:Media card reader PC & Mac compatible?

I'd ask this question directly on Kingston's tech support page for the product.

http://www.kingston.com/us/support/technical/products?model=fcr-hs3

This way you'll get a straight answer directly from the mfr.

Hope this helps.

Hi, I just got a new XPS 420 system and I'm having some issues with the built in media card reader. The problem is this: Boot into Vista and I can see all of the media reader drives in My Computer. They have the customized icons displayed as well. Device manager also shows the device. If I put an SD card into the reader, immediately all of the media card drive letters disappear and a message is displayed that a USB device attached to the system is malfunctioning.Device manager now shows the device as Unknown Device. Rebooting does not fix the problem. After reboot, the device is still shown as unknown device. I was able to get it working again through a combination of uninstalling the driver, shutting down the system and reinstalling the driver.I think this has something to do with having other USB devices plugged in at the front panel, but I haven't had to time to prove that theory yet.I've seen other posts related to this on this board but no one seems to have had the problem resolved yet.Help please!Message Edited by ski4404 on 01-24-2008 10:33 AM

Answer:Media Card Reader Malfunction

Go to downloads and drivers. Select your model DESKTOP, XPS, 420 and then look for the CHIPSET drivers. There is an update that states it fixes issues pertaining to USB port malfunctions.Maybe this will help you.

Hi,I'm considering to buy a fast SD card as extension to SDD. Since these cards today support 90-100 MBps read/write already, and it's growing (check out the upcoming Toshiba Exceria Pro R:260/W:240!), I was wondering whether the host controller won't be a bottleneck. Does anyone know what's the maximum read/write speed supported by the internal media card reader? It's about X1 from 2011 [1294-2NG], the controller is Ricoh R5U822 (PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_E823&SUBSYS_21E817AA&REV_04) Thanks!

While trying to "safely remove" an external HDD my hand slipped and accidentally hit the internal media card reader option on the list. Now none of them are showing up in My Computer/Windows Explorer. Rebooting doesn't help. I tried reinstalling the drivers, thinking maybe that would help but that didn't work at all.

How do I get them back? It's rather important.

I'm on Vista Home Premium if that matters.

First off, thanks in advance for your help. Up until a few months ago, my 13 in 1 Media Card Reader worked just fine. It would read my SanDisk Extreme III 16.0 GB card. It isn't the fault of the card because I am able to load the card by using a Crucial Technology device, which connects through a USB connection. The devices with removable storage show up under My Computer. I have downloaded all of the Vista updates and all of the device drivers from Dell. Still nothing. I'm not sure what happened. One day it worked and then the next day it didn't.

Regards,

BjamisonF
