Thinkpad Edge S430 questions/problems

Question: Thinkpad Edge S430 questions/problems

Hi For about 3 weekI have been using and enjoying my new Edge S430. But I have some problems, questions: 1) I found out that i have a SSD caching disk, but it wasn't specified in the specs from the company where I bought it, no can I find much about it on the official Lenovo site. That's more of a pleasant surprise but looking in taskmanager I see that the disk isnt used at all! Anyone know what to do about it? 2)When starting taskmanager it sometimes takes up to 3 min(!) to start it and display info... 3)Sometimes when plugged in and sometimes when not, the S430 wont go to sleep (i did check the settings, all is normal). 4)When waking the realtech headphone driver isn't enabled and plugging in the headphones wont make the speakers go mute. 5)How do I disable the screen (make it go black?) I would be grateful if some of my issues are fixed/explained. Many thanks!

Preferred Solution: Thinkpad Edge S430 questions/problems

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Thinkpad Edge S430 questions/problems

are you using the preinstalled windows 7 / 8 ? 1.) i don't know windows 8, but can you see the free space of a disk in the taskmanager? anyways here is how to check if the cache is active - open start menu - search for "cmd" - rightclick run as admin - enter "eccmd -info" post results 2.) that is very weird, never heard of that 5.) maybe there is a hotkey for the S430, elsewhise you can rightclick the power manager applet (if installed) -> turn screen off immediately. otherwise there are alternative programms that can do this for you hope i could help

I'm thinking of buying one.... 1) How about temperatures? Configuration:- i7 3520m- 256gb msata- 500gb hdd- 2gb gpu- optical drive All inside one machine (I won't be doing a lot of gaming but still some multimedia stuff) Won't it get hot.... 2) My girlfriend ownes an x121e. It has a 65watt power supply. The s430 has a 90watt power supply. Will the 65watt power supply keep my s430 fully charged when working with it at her place? 3) What color is it? I read somewhere it's mocha. I've seen pictures on this German website where it looked more like it having a purple glow... http://www.notebookjournal.de/tests/laptop-review-lenovo-thinkpad-edge-s430-n3b3dge-nkkas-1835

Answer:Questions about edge s430

Temperature runs high with _heavy_ workload. But nothing to worry about. I use it 24/7, not too much GPU but a lot of CPU workload and never had an issue or overheating. Is mocha. At least mine. Never saw a purple one.Regarding the power supply... I've used 65W occasionally without any issues. But I don't think it's recommended.

Hi Guys, ive got a few questions about the S430 1. How is the display, especially the anglestability? Right now ive got the samsung chronos 7 14 inch at home and i am a little disappointed about the display. I dont know, if the edges display is better. 2. How is the fan-noise? thx for answers Pat .

Answer:A few questions ( Edge S430)

So let me see if I can steer you in the right direction.  The Edge S430 is a terriffic machine and will provide a lot of enjoyment.  The screen can either be in a Glossy configuration or a Matte configuration.  The Matte display may provide less eye strain, however with any screen depending on the angle that you select you may see some distortion, just the way it is!  But that being said you should not have any major issues with viewing.  The fan noise is negligible and unless you are in a dead quiet area, you will not even hear it.  So as in any purchase, take your time, go to a Lenovo dealer take a look and then make your decision!!

Hi everyone, I replaced the SSD 16 Gb on Samsung SSD 850 Evo 500 GB in mSata connector, but CrystalDiskInfo says that it is only working in Sata 3Gb/s. I do the test read/write and trust CrystalDiskInfo  Please say me, may be i don't install drivers, or don't switch Sata3 in BIOS?

Answer:Thinkpad Edge S430 mSata 6Gb/s or 3Gb/s?

Hi there,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As I understand that you have query regarding S430 mSATA port, already there have been lot of discussion on the same

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Thinkpad-Edge-S430-is-it-possible-to-re...

As per the above page it states that mSATA port is SATA 2 port, & only 3Gbps will be available.

I hope the above information helps and do let us know how it goes.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Hello Ecodot,Yes, it is possible to switch out the HDD with a SDD. Depending on the S430 you have you can do a mSATA SDD(S430 Optimus) or SDD.If you would like to look more into the type here is a helpful link(S430 psref): http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/edgebook_WE.pdf

Hi everyone, I am wondering if the internal SATA (not mSATA) port of the Thinkpad Edge S430 is a 6Gb/s or 3Gb/s port? Because the internal 500GB HDD is a Hitachi Travelstar Z7K500, which normally is a Sata 6Gb/s HDD, but CrystalDiskInfo says that it is only working in Sata 3Gb/s modus.I know that the HDD is not fast enough to max out SATA 3Gb/s anyway, but I want to replace the HDD with an SATA 6Gb/s SSD. So the question is why is the HDD is working in SATA 3gb/s modus. Does the board only support SATA 3gb/s or does the OEM Version of the Hitachi HDD only support SATA 3gb/s? Has anyone replaced the HDD with an SSD already? Regards,shivo222

The internal SATA port is 3Gb/s per the PSREF for your model located here:

I'm not sure why it is #Gb/s.

Hi, I'd like to install a proper SSD hard drive instead of the built-in 32GB SSD Cache drive. In the manual I've read, that it is not recommended/possible, to install a mSATA disk as a boot disk. Why is it not possible to use the internal mSATA slot for booting? Is it going to destroy anything or doesn't it work properly or which reason prevents the usage of the internal mSATA slot instead of the SSD cache?

The adaptor is connected, the computer is turned on and it says: 'connected, not charging' and suddenly it just dies (when it hit 0%). However when the computer is turned off it charges without a problem. When I connect it to the adaptor and the pc is turned on it charges for 5 seconds and then it goes to 'connected, not charging'- mode. I have read through some other post suggesting to remove the battery - however the I have to remove the keyboard and other stuff as well, so I was looking for a simpler solution. Can you help me?

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad Edge S430: CPU replacement?

Hi, CharlyAR

I was able to find a video on FrusOnFone, which is a website that shows how to perform certain hardware repairs on certain machines. I watched the systemboard removal and replacement videos for the Edge S430. In both clips, you can see that the processor is already attached to the board, and there are no clips for the removal or replacement for the processor.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Hi guys I'm an engineering student out to buy one of these computers. The problem is the more I research the more unsure I get. I've never owned aLenovo machine before so I thought i would ask you guys. The Yoga is the 5i, 8RAM, 265GB, ca $300 more than the S430The S430 is the 7i, 8RAM, 500GB.It has to be able to run all of the math programming and chem software, and do it fora few years. But it will also be my main computer and I would like something that is abit consumption friendly. I was also really set on an ultrabook before I saw the S430 asI am really lazy and already have to lugg around a bunch of material.I'm kinda confused as both would meet my needs but I just don't have the experiencewith these machines to make this choice. Thanks for your time!

Answer:Ideapad Yoga or Thinkpad Edge S430

Processor: Yoga uses the U series low voltage and lower speed processors. S430 uses full speed and full voltage processors. Advantage: S430
Graphics: Yoga has integrated graphics; S430 has slightly faster integrated graphics or 620M. Advantage S430.
Connectivity: Yoga has 1 USB 2.0, 1 USB 3.0, HDMI and Card reader; i7 S430 has Thunderbolt, 2 USB 3.0 ports, DisplayPort, miniHDMI, wired ethernet, and card reader. Advantage S430 (Thunderbolt & Display Port are useful).
Keyboard: Yoga has a good keyboard; S430 has trackpoint. Advantage: S430 (unless you don't use trackpoint).
Operating System: Yoga has Win 8; S430 has Win 7. Advantage: Yoga (since you could downgrade to Win 7 if you purchase Win 8 Pro). You should check to see if your school supports Win8.
Display: Yoga has a glossy 1600x900 IPS screen with multitouch; S430 has either 1366x768 glossy screen or 1600x900 non-glossy screen. Advantage: Yoga. (Touch is useful if you run Win8 and IPS and glossy is better for content consumption.)
RAM: Yoga maxes out at 8GB; S430 has 2 DIMM Slots and can be upgraded to 16GB. Advantage: S430.
Mass storage: Yoga has a SSD; S430 has a HDD. Advantage: Yoga (but you could upgrade S430 to SSD after purchase).
Optical Drive: Yoga none; S430 has one. Advantage: S430. (You'll probably be putting lots of engineering software on this thing, so you'll need an optical drive.)
Weight: Yoga 1.54kg; S430 1.8kg. Advantage: Yoga.
Battery: Yoga up to 8hrs; S430 up to 6hrs. Advantage: Yoga.

Hello everyone, I wanna buy a S430 with 16GB mSSD.I wanna ask, where is the windows installed? In the mSSD or HDD?If it is installed in the mSSD, does it means that if I replace the HDD with a SSD, I will not lose the windows with lenovo features like EE3.0 but only the data stores in the pre-installed HDD?Thanks a lot!!

Answer:[ThinkPad Edge S430 ] Problem between HDD, SSD, mSSD

Windows is installed on the HDD. The mSATA is used for caching purposes with software called ExpressCache. It makes the HDD performance faster.

If you intend to replace the HDD with SSD, then there is no purpose to buy the 16GB mSATA.  The mSATA cache will not make a SSD faster.

Hi guys, One "simple" question: How single sign-on should perform? Should I be able to boot the computer from a total powered off state by only swiping my finger over the reader? Or is some "intermediate" state? I searched around but didn't find some specifications regarding single sign-on. Lenovo ThinkPad Edge S430 running Windows 8 x64 RTM.

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad Edge S430 single sign-on

ThinkPad Edge doesn't support single-sign on from a powered-off state.  Only ThinkPad T/W/X ThinkPads can do that.
ThinkPad Edge can use fingerprint to log into Windows and/or Password Manager only.

Since I bought my new Thinkpad Edge S430 (Windows 7 Home Pre. 64-bit) with the pre-installed software and configuration, my memory stays around 3 gb. I have 8 gb installed. It did some deinstallation, deactivating and installed the newest driver with the Thinkpad System Update. But this can not be or is this normal? Thank you for your help.

Answer:ThinkPad Edge S430 WWAN: Ericsson F3507G?

Hey there CharlyAR,

Looking over some different specs and resources I found that specific modem you were looking may have been found on some models, like SL300, W500,T400, X200. It is important to note that some BIOS versions have whitelist restrictions of WWAN cards may work with the machine. Currently, the following two cards are compatible with S430.

According to the PSRef for the S430, it was offered with the option for the following WWAN card:

Wireless WAN, Ericsson H5321gw Mobile Broadband Module, PCIe Half Mini Card, GPRS/WCDMA/HSPA/HSPA+, ...

An additional option for you may be the ThinkPad GOBI 3000 PCI-e WWAN card, Lenovo Part Number 60Y3257.

Both of these options should work and be compatble with your S430. Good Luck and hope this helps you.

I have a problem with my Thinkpad Edge S430 running Fedora Linux (19 and 20). I can suspend the machine just fine, however, it wakes up automatically right after the suspend finishes. When the system runs again and I suspend again it stays in suspend. So far this could be a Linux bug. But I get the same when I shut down the machine: it turns off and the turns on automatically again after a second. Again, if I shut down after this reboot it stays powered off. Anyone else seeing something like this?

Hi There I just ordered myself an S430 with a 128gb SSD HDD included. I didn't see an option to replace the optical drive with a secondary HDD (e.g. a 500gb) so have the optical drive in as standard. Now, I would have rather changed this out for a secondary HDD or for a Blu-Ray drive, thinking I could do this myself once bought...Looking at other posts it looks like you can swap out the optical drive for a Blu-Ray drive, although I would preferably get a secondary drive over the Blu-Ray, but I'm hesitant over a few things: Is this possible to do myself (swapping out for either secondary HDD or blu-ray drive) without voiding the warranty? (I got it with 2 year warranty)Is it actually possible to do at all? (swapping out for a secondary HDD) Thanks

Answer:Thinkpad Edge S430 - Swapping out optical drive for HDD?

Hello wfdc,

Removing the drive will not void the warranty, nor will changing it out.  The only thing to remove is the keyboard which is a customer removable part and the optical drive is also a removable part.  Here is a link to the Hardware Maintenance Manual:

Hi, Twi days ago I bought a ThinkPad Edge S430, the wireless wifi connection is so slow and ramdonly lost conection. I have made a speed test with my previous machine a the new one in the same wifi networw and the connection is so slow in my new one. I have put also in the power management setting optimal performance like I read could be a issue about this but the problem is still happening. The machine has windows 8.  Any advice, do you know which one could be the issue? Best Regards.

Answer:Slow wifi connection ThinkPad Edge S430

Hi, juancevi

Is there an Intel wireless card in your S430? If so, then I would recommend checking out  Control Panel ? Programs and Features. Here you can uninstall certain programs from your computer. One that you may find is called the Intel Management Engine. If available, I would recommend uninstalling it. This program has caused issues for me in the past and removing it has helped my WLAN be more stable, so it may help you as well.

Best of luck. Let me know how it goes,
Adam

Answer:Thinkpad Edge S430 Core i7 Thunderbolt Device

Hey Dagavie,

I believe that Thunderbolt is part of package and that is why you don't find as a stand alone download. What you can do is try uninstalling the video drive and installing the latest version.

Here is the link:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?

Also the device itself could need its own driver that you would have to get from the company its from. Like the monitor your try to connect.

Being as apple doesn't like to play well with others I can guess it wont work but this is just a guess and not a fact.

Best Regards,

Hiro

Hi all, I have a problem with my Thinkpad Edge S430. After reinstalling Windows 7, System update and all drivers, my trackpoint doesn't work. It´s disabled and there is no way of getting it to work. I have unistalled, cleaned the registry and reinstalled the driver from the official driver web page, from within system update,... no way.  The other problem is with the SD Reader. I use a 32Gb SD card for backup purposes and a week ago simply it´s like the reader does not exist anymore. The devide administrator does have all drivers installed, but the reader is not working (of course, I have checked that the card is working and with all data in other PC). I have also unistalled and installed the driver, but again no way. Any help is really welcome. Thanks in advance,

Answer:Ultranav trackpoint not working, SD reader vanished. Thinkpad EDGE S430

Hi, petodow

For the TrackPoint issue, I would try installing the Synaptics driver from here. Synaptics is the company that makes UltraNav, so there shouldn't be any loss of functionality.

As for the SD card reader, there is a BIOS update that was released five days ago that may help. The update can be found here.

Hope it helps,
Adam

On a Thinkpad S430 with HD4000 integrated graphics, an external display connected via a HDMI cable is not detected at all when using Windows. The system is fully updated as of the time of posting this message, both via the Lenovo Update tool as well as Windows update. The Intel driver version is 8.15.10.2696. It appears that this is the latest version, since it does not offer an update when I try to auto-update it via Device Manager. NB: I am running Ubuntu 12.04 with kernel 3.4.0 on the same machine, and the external display works perfectly fine with this software configuration. Hence I think that it's very likely that this is a Windows-specific driver issue. Would Lenovo happen to have a driver update in the works? Alternatively, I will be thankful for any suggestions about possible resolution of this problem.

After restart the error occurs again quickly. This occurs regardless if I boot to windows or into a linux bootable dvd. ButRemote desktop connection to the computer and it works fine for days . ->Thus I believe it is the intel 4000 graphics that has some hardware failure which is not invoked upon remote desktop. I wonder if this is a known issue? I wonder if only a replacement of the intel 4000 graphics will fix this (this probably means replacing the main board entirely?) OrIf it is in any way likely that it is _only_ because maybe thermal paste between cooler and cpu/graphics is slipping?  Lenovo Thinkpad Edge S430Intel I7 + Intel HD 4000No additional graphics

Hi, My Lenovo ThinkPad Edge S430 is listed in the "supported W8" systems, http://shop.lenovo.com/gbweb/gb/en/learn/products/ee8/index.html But what is "Lenovo Enhanced Experience 8"? Should be some software available? Should be something available? So far, I got my hands over some drivers (card reader, hotkey, active protection system) and little more. Should something else be installed in the notebook to improve it's performance?

If I helped you, please give me some kudos! ^^

I am desperately trying to install windows 7 from USB.I need it to dual boot with windows 8.I obtained a windows 7 iso from MSDNAA: (en_windows_7_professional_with_sp1_x64_dvd_u_676939.iso)I made a bootable UEFI USB with rufus on a Sandisk U3 Cruzer (8GB)Now in BIOS I disabled secure boot  but I can't select my USB, I can select it, press enter, the screen flickers but jumps back to the first entry in the boot list. The USB is displayed without "UEFI:" in front.Selecting "legacy" in boot mode works but I can't install windows 7, the setup shows al the partitions but says: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is not of the GPT partition style".That's it, I just can't install windows 7...

Answer:Can't dual boot windows 7 with windows 8 on Thinkpad edge S430

Hi,

I'm not familiar with "rufus".  Here's how I make UEFI-bootable flash drives:  format with a single FAT32 partition.   Use something like 7zip to extract the Windows ISO contents to the flash drive.  That's all.   Boot it in UEFI mode.  You'll have  to disable secure boot and enable CSM support.

You might give that a try.  I'm a little suspicious that UEFI bootability is broken if you can boot in legacy mode.  Maybe the drive is NTFS?  That won't boot in UEFI mode.

Hi Guys, I'm debating on getting this laptop, but I have some questions.  I've read all the post and the choice is still confusing to me.  Can you help in answering some questions for me? 1. Are the hinges made of metal or plastic? 2. I am getting Mixed reviews on Battery life. What the the max battery life for Intel model with 6 cell under normal usage(Web surfing, email, MS Office)? What the the max battery life for AMD model with 6 cell under normal usage(Web surfing, email, MS Office)?3. AMD Athlon Neo X2 with ATI Radeon HD 3200 vs Intel Core 2 Duo with Intel GMA 4500MHD:ATI Radeon is a better GPU then Intel GMA, but Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 CPU performs better then AMD Athlon Neo X2.Which performs better for HD Videos and gaming with the current configuration.4. Fan NoiseI've read some people complain about fan noise on the AMD model. Can anyone else confirm this? How noticable is the fan noise?Does the Intel model have the same fan noise issue?5. HeatPeople are reporting that the AMD model generates more heat.  I am assuming that this is due to the AMD CPU using a higher wattage. Can anyone confirm this? How noticable is the heat? Thanks,

Answer:Thinkpad Edge 13 Questions

Hi, Edge 13" intel 7300 for me. * hinges seem metal* fan noise : no pb by using basic applications* heat : same observation; heater in video streaming mode or watching HDD's video* gaming : prefer the AMD version, the discrete 4500 HD card being limited* video streaming : no pb till 720p : some lags in 1080p, but it may be caused by my modem (G norm / 54 Mbs/s) Hoping it helps you.

In a search of a decent "off-the-shelf" music production/DAW laptop solution I consider ThinkPad Edge E530 as a potential purchase (provided Lenovo fixes the fan noise issue). By reading this forum, I've acquired most of the info I need but various specs sheets I see around have left me confused so I'd like to confirm some facts. My questions are as follows: 1. I've read in here that ALL ThinkPad Edge E530 models come with a PCI Express mini Card / WWAN slot which would allow a mSSD to be installed. This is a crucial feature for me as I plan to buy a mSSD and install Windows 7 Pro there (I don't care about the caching feature) so I want to be perfectly sure all / the models I am looking at do come with a mSata slot indeed. In particular, I am looking at the NZQM9UK and N4F29UK models and I see no mSata slot reported in specs (unless I am missing something ofcourse). Specs can be found here:NZQM9UK and N4F29UK Btw, any idea what could explain the price difference between the two? 2. Likewise, different spec sheets mention different RAM upgradability. The NZQM9UK version I am linking for example shows maxium ram supported being 8 GB. Along with the mSSD, another big factor for choosing this laptop is the ability to upgrade it up to 16 GB of RAM so I can't afford getting stuck with a model that can only support 8 GB. I honestly don't want to doubt people who've said that *it should* have an mSata slot/go up to 16 but when it comes to spending so much money I w... Read more

Answer:Some ThinkPad Edge E530 questions.

I don't know the answers to all of your questions but I do have a couple of comments.  First of all Thinkpads come from the business side of the computer world.  Not that they are not multipurpose computers but their specs tend to favor business like use.  I just purchased a E530 and am happy with it but based on your intended use there may be other options.  Have you considered asking on music production sites what kind of laptop people are using?  One of the great advantages of the Internet is getting feedback from like-minded end users. Even though the E530 has Dolby the sound end of things seems to be weak.  You must use a 4 conductor phone/mic combo since there is no dedicated mic input.  The built-in speakers work fine but don't expect THX! I believe all E530's have the PCI Express Card mini slot.  It is designed for a 16GB mSATA ssd or a WWAN card. I have read of others putting larger ssd's inorder to install the OS but I would caution you that the slot has electrical specs and may not support the current required for a larger ssd over time.  An ssd is just a memory stick and produces heat and requires current so even if it works battery life is likely to be reduced. Sorry I can't be of more help.  Good luck with your decision.

1. Where is Enhanced Experience 2.0? Or are the tweaking already done? 2. If it is already done, then my startup is very slow. I am comparing to a System of my old Toshiba, which start up faster then this Lenovo Enhanced Experienced 2.0 Thinkpad Edge E420. My old laptop is a Pentium M 1.8Ghz Single Core, 1GB DDR 1 Ram, and a UATA 33 5200Rpm HDD. I dont trust the marketing things about EE 2.0, but i didn't expect it to be slow. 3. My Sandy Bridge Gfx Drivers is from ATI / AMD?? What is going on?  Does that mean i will never be able to install official drivers from Intel. Given OEM dont normally update their drivers, this sounds like a bad point.

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E420 : Questions.

1. The tweaking is already done.2. Startup shouldn't take more than a minute.3. If the E420 has switchable graphics, then the Intel drivers will have to be provided by AMD, so no, you won't be able to use stock Intel drivers without breaking switchable graphics.

I read through the manual and am confident that I can take apart the machine, replace the cracked screen and put it back together. I replaced hinges in my old HP and a motherboard in my friends HP. My father was able to get me a great deal on this machine I have now. I put in some extra ram and a 32gb SSD for RapidBoot and I'm pretty much in love. I take great care of it but had an accident and dropped/cracked the screen.

The laptop was ordered custom so its a bit more of a challenge to find specific information on what the part #'s are. The laptop has working microphones but was not purchased with a webcam which I regret. I would like to replace the LCD panel and install an integrated camera in one fell swoop.

My questions are: What model number of LCD panel so I need. What model number of camera do I need. And lastly, will I need to purchase a new LCD cable that has the ability to plug into the camera? Or does my current LCD cable have a lone male cable plug waiting for a camera?

Machine Type: 3254
Serial #: xxxxxxx
CPU: i5-3210
HDD: 7200rpm 320gb
Came with 4gb of RAM

Thanks so much! Any advice here would be appreciated

I've yet to see a review of the s430, or see much in the way of opinions about it. Any early adopters care to share there thoughts?

Answer:Edge s430 Opinions?

my friend bought an Edge S430 and i tested for couple of hours. The machine is very much like the E420s of in terms of design. -The build quality is good.-The keyboard is more like the Thinkpad X1 then the Edge 3xx,4xx,5xx series. -There is also the Thunderbolt port, for future upgrade (i.e. eGPU).The screen has gorilla glass cover, which means it is glossy and highly reflective under sunlight or strong ambient lighting (i.e. in the office with daylight quality fluorescent lighting). The only thing i dislike about the S430 is the lack of removable integrated battery (it is only 4 cells) and the discrete GPU is only a Nvidia 620m. I weighted the choice between a S430 or i7 T430s, i chose the latter, as i wanted a machine with removable battery. The X1 battery removal was a painful process that taught me the value of having removable battery.

Hello there. I've had my Lenovo Thinkpad Edge S430-3EG for about a year now. It runs windows 7 64bit. Now i decided to reformat it.I made some mistakes along the way, and now my recovery program won't work. I'll start from the beginning. I used the recovery partition (Q, a separate 16gb SSD drive) to create a startup disc from within windows. It asked if it should create data discs, but I declined. Then I went about and started the recovery program via F11 in the boot menu. I asked the program to do a full factory reset. After it had started the resetting, it asked me for 'Applications and driver disc 1' which I didn't have. I assume it's those data discs I didn't have... I tried to reboot my computer, but windows wouldn't start up, leaving me stuck - it would just keep displaying the boot menu where you choose which drive to boot on. I went on to install another version of windows 7 64bit, hoping that I would be able to create the discs and recover my Lenovo version of windows. Alas, the recovery (Q) drive is gone from view in 'My Computer'. Also, the F11 function I the boot menu doesn't work anymore - it just does nothing and continues to boot into windows. I downloaded the 'Enhanced backup and restore' program and created a recovery-disc. It boots the recovery program up nicely, but when I want to do the actual recovery, it gives me an error message stating "Product recovery function has been removed from this system".  This is where I am... I just bought a brand new Edge S430 that was supposed (as in advertised) to have Windows 8 pre-installed on it. It has a Windows 8 sticker on the underside and comes with a set of Windows 8 Pro recovery discs but when I started it up for the first time I was greeted with the familiar Windows 7 logo, and lo and behold, it begins the initial set up procedure for Windows 7.The seals were all on the box and on the interior plastic bag around the product, meaning that I was the first person to handle it from the factory. What went wrong and is there any way to fix it besides returning it? Was it a mistake at the factory? Can I use the recovery discs to install Windows 8? Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Edge S430 Wlan replacement

Hi Beejay,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that you had trouble with the WLAN card of your Lenovo ThinkPad Edge S430.

I suggest you to refer this document and choose the WLAN card according to your requirement.

If you need a Bluetooth combo card with 2.4 + 5 Ghz spectrum for WIFI, choose the one with ABGN listed, BGN will only be capable of 2.4 ghz.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hi, A couple of days ago, Bluetooth went dead with no apparent reason. No Bluetooth device is being displayed in the Device Manager at all. And Windows won't allow Bluetooth to be enabled. I use Bluetooth headset almost all of the time and this is a huge issue for me.  I've tried restoring system to a previous point, enabling/disabling Bluetooth and WiFi from the BIOS, checked the services. Everything seems to be in order. But still, Windows will show it grayed out. I've been searching around and it seems I'm not the only one and is a frequent issue. But still haven't found a solution. Anybody, any idea how to fix this?

If I helped you, please give me some kudos! ^^

I got my ThinkPad Edge s430 just two days ago, and I was quite happy with it until I connected my headphones and noticed a permanent, very loud, hiss. It's so annoying that I simply can't use any headphones (I've tried with 2-rings and 3-rings jacks; it's the same thing). This appears to be very similar to the situation reported a couple of years ago for the Edge 13 in this thread, which is discouraging, as it seems no solution was found. Is any one else experiencing this problem?

Hi,I've been using my S430 for over two months. I didn't have any problem with headphones. To be sure I just tried three different right now, both with two and three rings. Might it be some software or setting problem? (hopefully)I run Windows 8 clean install, default drivers, no Realtek or Dolby software installed.Good luck.

Hi!I want to put a BD-drive in my edge s430. Do i have to pay attention to something or can i use any 9,5 mm drive?

Answer:Optical drive Edge s430

Unfortunately kidacid the optical drive in the Edge s430 is a fixed drive and will required the keyboard to be removed and a screw to be taken out to remove the optical drive.

But you could always get an external blue-ray drive.

thank you lead_org

As far as I can tell from the support site any 9.5mm drive should work.

Hi,This morning I was browsing the internet, using skype on my Edge s430 with no problems. The battery got a bit low so I plugged it into power, plugged my phone into the usb to charge and left it while I had breakfast. When I went back the laptop didn't turn on when I opened the lid.  I waited and touched a few keys on the keyboard (usually does it). But nothing... tried pressing and holding power button for 30 seconds, nothing - no lights, no fans.  The battery is sealed inside so I can't do much - I tried unplugging from AC, pressing the power button 15 times at one second intervals, then held down for 30 seconds but no change - no lights, no fans.  When I plug the adaptor in, the green charge light comes on solid - not blinking or anything.  Edge s430 - stock i7 3364cto laptop.  Any help appreciated.

After I performed a clean install of Windows 8 in my ThinkPad Edge S430, I found that it was impossible to turn Bluetooth on (see pic), and, even more frightenly, the Bluetooth Communications Device does not appear in the Device Manager any more! (I've checked, I have no "Unknown" devices either). I've been trying different drivers with no succes. Bluetooth worked just fine under Windows 7, and it's still enabled by the BIOS. Does any one else have had similar experiences, or any ideas of what could be the problem?

Answer:Bluetooth in Edge S430 doesn't work on Win8

Hi, emannigol

I know you have already downloaded and installed various drivers to attempt to solve this issue, but I would like to make sure that one driver in particular has been installed. That driver can be found here. Select Bluetooth and Modem from the first drop down box, and Windows 8 from the second to filter the results. This driver is the most up to date driver from Lenovo for Bluetooth on your machine with Windows 8. Since the device is recognized and turned on in BIOS, the computer is recognizing it, even if Windows is currently not. This driver will hopefully make Windows recognize it and get your Bluetooth working back properly.

Hope it helps, and let me know how it goes,

Adam

Question: Thinkpad S430

I just bought an S430. It often comes up with a üpdating Windows Configuration...do not turn off the computer"which gets up to about 30% complete. Then it says that the process has failed...reverting. What is wroing and what do I need to do to fix it?

Answer:Thinkpad S430

On the last start it ran chkdisc twice with a shutdown restart in between. The "Failure configuring Windows updates"occurred again. It is followed by " reverting"with yet another shutdown restart. So two restarts in the one start sequence and about 10 minutes. On a new laptop! Any help out there? Is the second one a Windows 7 issue?

Hi guys,I'd be very grateful if you could help with the following Thinkpad Edge 13 issues:1. Heating. The fan is blowing hot air from the vent on the left. The bottom left of the keyboard also gets very, very hot. How can I cool it down?2. WiFi. The WiFi adapter turns off after the laptop goes to sleep. I think have to run the troubleshoot to restore it again. Very annoying problem - any ideas on a fix?3. Freezing. This might be related to the heat problem, but since I installed a new hdd, the laptop freezes for about 30 seconds before coming back to life again. It seems especially the case when watching video.4. Video. When watching video on VLC, if I jog the laptop only slightly, the video freezes or stutters. I have to keep the laptop perfectly still to avoid this. Is that normal?Any help with this would be much appreciated! Thanks kindly.

I have recently purchased a Thinkpad s430, with a 256GB SSD.All is working well, however I need more disk space.I am trying to work out if I should go an buy a larger SSD, say a 512GB, or am I able to take advantage of the mSATA slot. I have tried to research what I shoudl purchase by looking at forum posts, but I am a little confused and dont want to make the wrong purchase, hence the post. Q. How do I know I can use the mSATA, did I need to purchase an option in order for the mSATA slot to work. Q. If the mSATA slot is just there to be used, but I just purchase an mSATA SSD and have it as a secondary drive? This would mean minimal impact to my current setup. Q. With regards to SSD's I saw on another post that mSATA (3Mbps) is slower then the SSD HDD (6Mbps), is this correct, and is this going to be a major issue, I plan on using the extra space for VM's. Given the performance improvement from HDD to SSD, is there much more improvement from 3Gbps to 6Gbps?

Hi.My new Lenovo S430's Trackpad works most of the time but sometimes just suddenly stops working and I have to restart the laptop using keyboard navigation Often this happens when the machine is under load like an antivirus scan or similar. Sometimes the Trackpad is also sluggish to respond, like it ignores the first touch. The Trackpoint and mouse buttons (the ones above the Touchpad) work for the first 3-5 minutes after boot up and then suddenly stops working and doesn't start again until it's restarted. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling most of the drivers (for various other issues) on the machine but it hasn't helped. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Answer:Edge S430 - Touchpad, Trackpoint & Mouse Buttons Not Functioning Correctly

News on this problem: now nothing works except the keyboard. I'm stuck using a usb mouse. The bios config page for keyboard/mouse only shows options for the Fn keys. The laptop also bricked itself briefly and gave an error beep (1, 3, 3, 1) which seems to indicate a problem with the DIMM or system board. What can I do? Will a system restore help or should I just send it back? I need help.

I was looking into buying a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge. I initially preferred E530 (model# 62724GU) over the idepads (such as model P500) with better configurations for over a hundred and fifty dollars less only because it had thinkpad in its name.  However, I am seeing so many complaints (such as fan issues, battery drain) for E530, I am not sure if bought one it would not have defects. Has anyone got a defect free E530? What is the average battery drain time on both E530 and P500 on moderate to heavy load?

Hello . . . I have a Thinkpad Edge (Product ID 0578CT0), and the screen will not display anything. Also, using HDMI output doesn't work. On booting, the laptop screen will "flash" black a couple times, but doesn't display anything. It started a couple of days ago. . . on resume from sleep, the screen would delay in displaying, then you would see a whole bunch of scan lines and "rolling" vertical video, then it would be fine. The last time, however, it never came back. Ideas? Jim

Dear Lenovo, I have started using ThinkPad Edge E440's and E540's in my company last year (June 2014) and have now been experiencing several horrible issues: 1. The default Windows 7 OS that came with the laptop gets corrupted when you install updates from Microsoft. This will hang after the initial restart and then will never boot again to windows not to mention 4 BSOD's before it gets totally corrupted, to a point that not even safe mode can boot into. if I do not update the OS from MS Updates, it will be working, but dead slow. I have 2 i7 8GB 1TB configuration and honest to goodness opinion my Core2Quad beats them hands down in performance.  2. The issue above will then have to be reformatted hence i have no recovery disks of Windows 7 so i have to use the Windows 8.1 recovery discs. which is a terrible OS and is not being used in our corporate setup. so then i have to use one of our licenses and this wastes our licenses because we originally ordered these laptops with windows 7. but then the same issue occurs with it hanging constantly and not able to connect to the wifi and BSOD's all around 3. After i have installed and updated windows 8.1, i will then update the drivers, and then will have to update the BIOS to 2.18 and then Wi-Fi will not work with the drivers that are found from your support site. you can only use WiFi again if you download the drivers from Intel or Realtek. 4. Suddenly my USB ports started disconnecting and reconnectin... Read more

I'm looking at the new Thinkpad Edge 431 and have been hearing about the fan problems in the E430/530 series. Does anyone around here happen to have one of the new ones or can anyone find a review of the E431? Is the fan problem solved or is it still around? If it was, it would be quite the dealbreaker.

Whenever I'm watching a video and move the laptop, the video pauses for a second or two. This is getting very annoying - I got this laptop (the 14" i3 processor) 3 months ago, is this covered by my warranty? Also, some videos on YouTube show up all green and blurry, to the point where I can't see the video at all except a fuzzy green screen.  Please help!

Answer:ThinkPad Edge Video Problems

I'm wondering if this is just my computer or if it's something that I can talk to Lenovo about - please help as I'd really really appreciate it!

Hey guysI've read the guide on how to add more RAM to my laptop (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=PD024449), but I still got a question.Do I have to remove the battery before adding the memory, or is it enough to just have the laptop turn off. This is the first time I'm doing this so I want it all to be perfectly safe for my system.Cheers.Øyvind

Answer:Adding more RAM to Lenovo ThinkPad S430

there is an option to disconnect the battery within the bios menu, this would allow you to do once off RAM upgrade. It automatically resets the battery to reconnect after you restart the laptop.

Hi I have replaced the original hard drive in my Thinkpad s430 with a Samsung 850 EVO SSD and done a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit Once its booted up its works perfectly, but I have terrible trouble getting it to boot reliably. I will often end up with "Attempting Automatic Repair" bootloop followed by blue screen of death with Unexpected I/O Error Error code 0xc00000e9 Sometimes entering the BIOS and then exiting again will get it to boot up successfully. I've tried everything I can download from Lenovo website latest BIOS update 2.60, lates chipset update, lates SATA/AHCI storage controller update etc. Most likely cuplrit I think is the SATA/AHCI controller driver QuestionsDoes anyone have a Samsung 850 EVO SSD running successfully as the internal hard drive in an S430?Are there any drivers or firmware updates that need to be applied to the Samsung Drive or the S430 to get the two to work reliably together? When my S430 does boot up with the SSD it takes about 2-3 minutes. The old hard drive which is ten times slower boots up to login screen in about 30 seconds. Need help please?

Hi, I bought a Thinkpad Edge S430 with regular HDD + 16 GB mSata SSD for "Express Cache". Now, when I open diskmgmt.msc, I see that this SSD drive is divided in 2 partitions :one of 6,91 GB "Primary partition"the other of 8GB  named "Hibernation partition". Why is it so ? (I've got 8GB of RAM, maybe that's the cause for the hib. part. being 8GB)As I do not use Hibernation, is it possible to free that partition, in order to have a bigger ExpressCache ? Thanks...Erwan.

Answer:Thinkpad S430 : why is 50% of my msata SSD used by "hibernate" ?

Hello, please read the following thread below.  The idea is it can store the entire memory on the SSD for a fast resume, and this explains the different types with Intel's Quick Start.  One thing to note, if you only have 4GB of RAM (which I know you have 8, but for us Twist users with 4), Lenovo's preloaded image is wasting 4GB of your SSD... which is kind of annoying (unless you upgrade which us Twist users can't do).  As for removing it I'm interested in what you'd lose.  If it's only resume capabilities I'd gladly remove that partition (as long as it still booted up fast from a cold start).  Perhaps 'someotherguy' will help. http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/Sleep-vs-Hibernate-with-the-Twist-and-SSD-Cache/m...

I've noticed there are a lot of issues reported with usb 3.0 on lenovo laptops. Mines is a little different to the ones I've read so far.  Its an iomega drive and is usb 3.0, it was working a few months ago but recently decided to stop. I have no idea what could have changed to stop it from working, I use this particular drive infrequently.  The issue is that I connect the drive t the laptop, it lights up but doesn't get detected at all by windows. so far I've done the following: - checked the drive letter in device manager- unisntalled all usb devices from device manager and then rebooted and re-installed- re-installed the Lenovo USB 3.0 extensible controller drivers- tried the Intel variant of the USB 3. Extensible hard drive- tried different ports- tried another 2430 laptop - it didn't work on that one either!- tried it on a HP laptop - WORKED FINE- didabled power management on the usb root device(s)- plugged it into the laptop whilst watching the device manager doesn't refresh, thinks nothing has been added. - scanned for new hardware, nothing comes up- installed the latest bios- set USB 3.0 mode to 'enabled' in the bios no difference. - set USB 3.0 mode to 'disabled' no difference- tried another USB drive (2.0) WORKED FINE-checked to see if it is recognized on boot - it is not.  And most likely other stuff which I've forgotten. Answer:Thinkpad S430 - not detecting USB 3.0 external HDD

Hello,

I am not familiar witheither  the ThinkPad S430 or the Iomega external USB 3.0 hard disk drive, but I wonder if the latter might not be receiving enough power over the USB cable.  Does the Iomega drive have an option to take power from an external AC adapter or second USB port?  If so, try providiing additional power and see if that allows the drive to be recognized when attached to the ThinkPad S430.

So i recently decided to buy a second hand Lenovo E520(retarded i Know). My previous work gave me the same model so i trusted it to be reliable, however 1 month after i bought it, it suddenly did not want to turn on. I got the serial number and entered it on Lenovo's site and saw it was bought end 2011(On the posts i saw everyone that bought the e520 at that stage has problems with it). So i realized i bought it 3 months out of warrantee, took it to a lenovo dealer, they then told me it was the charging point on the motherboard that was faulty so the motherboard had to be replaced. They quoted me 4700 South African Rands(Which is about  $500 US), nice price for a motherboard since the whole pc only costs R7000 in SA (About $780 US). So i bought a working Motherboard Second hand from a guy who broke his LCD and sold the rest for parts(Exactly the same model as mine 1143-AFG) for R1000($110 US). Replaced the motherboard myself, when i was done assembling again, tried to plug it in, still no power, not charging, charging lite not showing. So anyone who can maybe help me????????? Would appreciate it!!! By the way My name is ihatelenovo after this bad experience i had with Lenovo's Reliability.

Hello! I hope you can help me. I have some problems with my Lenovo e125 thinkpad. My BIOS version is the latest (1.17) I've set the power button to sleep, and disabled the lid closing action. The first problem is, when I push the sleep button, and then close the lid, and I open it again, the computer doesn't wake up. But sometimes yes. The another (and more annoying) problem is, somethimes when I push the power button (what has set to sleep), the notebook competely restarts. My drivers are the latest, I've installed the latest AMD e450 driver from the AMD site. I hope you can help me! Thank you!

Hey Community! I'm a proud ThinkPad User now, but there are some really annoying problems I have with my ThinkPad Edge E520.My Problem: If I watch an Youtube Video on Fullscreen, there's a black bar at the right side of my screen. If I'll close Fullscreen Mode, I have to press the close Button on the right side at the bottom. But I have to press it on this black bar and not on the Button itself. This Problem isn't only at Youtube. If I play "Runes of Magic" for example, there's an black bar at the right side too, even if I play in window mode or in smaller screen resolution. I allready checked and updated everything in the ThinkVantage Toolbox, but the Problem "is still alive". What can I do to solve the problem? Chris

Hello, I am looking for a little bit of help. I have a Lenovo Edge 15 0319-46U laptop I recieved from my educational institution. I have had the laptop since fall of 2012. I've never had a single issue with the laptop except a month ago I noticed my wireless 1x1 b/g/n card stopped working. I'm well knoledged in computers and have already tried updating the drivers but I ran into an issue. My wireless card is no longer being shown on the Device Manager list under Network Adapters or "Unknown Devices", I only see my Wired gigabit card. I went into Bios, checked the button (did all the begginer stuff) and no dice. Wireless still does not work. I went ahead and ordered a new Intel Wireless card for said laptop and made sure the interface worked correctly, so my question is does anyone know of any fixes that could work even if the adapter is not shown on anywhere in the computer? And would anyone know if the Intel 7260-HMWNBWB Dual band card would be compatible with this machine? Thanks in advance for an answer.

Answer:Thinkpad Edge 15 0319-46U wireless problems

Hello and welcome,

The ThinkPad BIOS has a wifi whitelist.  A card has to be a whitelisted model and have a Lenovo FRU number or the laptop will refuse to boot.  Generic cards - even with the correct model number - won't boot on an unmodified BIOS.

Page 113 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual  lists the compatible models and FRU numbers.

Or this software  just doesn't function correctly on my computer, and if it does is malfunctioned, what I'm I supposed to do to fix it? Thank you...

I'm looking at maybe buying the S430 so i have some questions that this forum may be able to answer for me. 1. i looked at a review at http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Lenovo-ThinkPad-Edge-S430-Notebook.80017.0.html and they mention that the dGPU are being throttled down under load, is there anyway to get the full potential of the dGPU? 2. for the harddrive configuration i where thinking of removing the normal HDD completely and putting in an mSATA, is this posseble and at what speed does the mSATA port operate(some says 3Gbps while others say 6Gbps). 3. Memory(RAM) i where thinking of dropping in 2x8GB sticks, my question here is if it will run with 1.35V or dosen't it support the low voltage RAM at all, couse then i would just go with the 1.5V. 4. Noise and Heat. what are the experiences with these things? 5. is it posseble to get a bigger battery 6-8cell anywhere for it? I think thats all for now.

Hey folks, had a bit of bad luck. Two months ago I bought an S430, the harddrive failed a week ago. Thankfully the people at Lenovo promptly sent a new hdd in the post (cheers!), but it was sent without any OS etc, as I kinda need my laptop up and working as fast as possible (I have moved to a new country, do  not speak the language, and need the laptop to figure out directions etc). Now to the problem I am having: The laptop refuses to boot off of the DVD drive. I have tried Windows 7 and a plethora of Linux distros, but it simply refuses to boot (the closest I have gotten was xbuntu, which gave me the "do you want to install or try?" screen before giving me a black screen no matter what I choose). I choose @boot from DVD rom", I can hear the dvd spinning up, black screen for a few seconds, then it dumps me back at the "choose boot device" options page. Has anyone had the same problem? and perhaps found a solution? According to the BIOS screen I am running v2.07.

I upgraded my S430 hard drive to an SSDMy operating system is Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bitI took a screenshot of my Windows device manager before upgrading the hard drive and it had no unknown devices and included one device called "SM Driver"Now after upgrade I have one unknown "PCI Device" with an exclamation mark and no device called "SM Driver"I have installed this Chipset driver and it has not resolved the problem http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds032281

Answer:Thinkpad S430 missing SM Driver in device manager

Zero help on this forum? I re-installed my old 7200rpm spinny hard drive to see what the driver was for SM Driver device Turns out it was a file called "psadd.sys" which was contained in C:\DRIVERS\SMBIOSDRV directory on the old hard drive Now before I did that, with the new SSD drive I downgraded the BIOS from 2.60 to 2.59 and then upgraded it to 2.60 but that did not install the SM Driver component in my Device Manager. Lenovo udate did not install it. So if my old hard drive was not still functional, how can anyone get this psadd.sys file? Lenovo update does not have it. Windows update does not have it. Lenovo's website does not have it. What else am I missing I wonder??? My laptop only boots up about 50% of the time from the SSD. I am now unable to upgrade from W8.1 to W10 due to inability to reboot reliably, so every attempt to upgrade from 8.1 to 10 bombs out.

Hi all, I hope you can help me with a little problem I'm having. I bought a shiny new cool S430 (3364CTO) in late November 2012 and got a windows 8 upgradeoffer voucher with it in the box. I was happy to take the offer and install windows 8 professional that I got for just 15? thanks to this voucher. After installing all the drivers and thinkvantage products I noticed my expresscache isn't working, but too much work made me forgot about it until a recent harddisk failure. After the harddisk was replaced the friendly guys from the service offered to send me Windows 8 recovery disks but somehow couldn't manage to, and sent me windows 7 recovery disks instead. So I called them again and after explaining my problem I got a link to a software instead of new DVD's: I was asked to go to http://support.lenovo.com and watch out for knowledge base article HT074404 which I did. The guys are extremely friendly and helpful, they said that they want to try and find a solution and that it could take up to a week or longer which seems only fair - but I thought tha... Read more

I have upgraded my Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E545 to Windows 10 recently and since then I have been having increasing problems to connect to WiFi. It is not a problem with the WiFi itself, since I can connect with my phone and tablet without any problems and my husband has not had any problems with his laptop either. It started with just having to try to connect a couple of times (clicking disconnect and then connect again) in the beginning. Then it took restarting the computer. And now I can't connect anymore no matter how often I try or whatever I try. Initially I got an error message regarding the IP address when using the troubleshoot, but now it just can't find the problem. I have read that it could be a problem with the WiFi driver, which may need an update for Windows 10. The driver listed is Realtek RTL8188E LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC. I have not been able to find this driver or any update for it on the Realtek website. I have not been able to find anything on the Lenovo or Windows website, or anywhere else for that matter, either. I have read posts by other users who are having similar issues, but I haven't been able to find a solution. Please let me know how I can solve this problem. Thank you.

Dear KVW,

Welcome in lenovo community,
Lenovo did not release all windows 10 drivers for the E545 laptop yet,
So you may go back to the previous windows and wait till lenovo release all the drivers.
Also you can use the below link to follow the drivers update,

Hi guya,at the moment I am trying to get all drivers together for the new windows 8.So far so good. I got almost all, but the newest BIOS Update contains an README which is mentioning to install a specific USB 3.0 driver prior flashing the new BIOS.But where can I get the driver? Also for windows 7 there has been a chipset-driver, will there also one in windows 8? In the download section you can download a driver for the use of the caching-ssd called Intel RapidStorage, but as far as I know, does Lenovo use Expresscache under windows 7..   mentioned abstract from BIOS-Update: - Lenovo recommends to install the USB 3.0 driver for Windows (Version  1.4.0.225 or higher) prior to updating the BIOS. Because the BIOS requires  the modification in the USB 3.0 driver to fix USB 3.0 related issues.

I purchased 4 of these for my company in December 2011 and today have had to arrange for the 3rd one to be returned to Lenovo with the same problem.  The battery stops charging and will not hold charge and will not run unless powered into ac supply. The laptop will then not power on at all, completely dead no lights / sounds etc and when returned the previous 2 they have replaced the motherboard and have had no problems since. Even though have had this problem with 2 of the others Lenovo Technical Support have still said have to return it at my expense which because of the data included on it have had to return special delivery costing £25 a time. They are returned withuin 7 days but think there may be a problem as this is a 75% failure rate. Anybody else had this problem as is putting me off buying anymore?

Hello Everyone,I need suggestion what to do: buy ThinkPad Edge E54020C6003AGE (i7 4702MQ & GF 740M 2GB) or wait for Edge E550?http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Lenovo-ThinkPad-Edge-E540-20C6003AGE-Notebook.114194.0.html in Germany is price about 830 Euros I use ThinkPads in last 10 years for study and gaming (R60, SL510, Edge 520) and wish sell my Edge E520 replace it with new one due stuck with old Radeon 6630M drivers (I cannot use a new AMD drivers when I try I getting mostly BOSD errors and latest Official Lenovo driver is from 2012) second reason is that E520 fan cannot be accessed & cleaned on easy way. In which month Lenovo mostly release new Edges, What is your option are Broadwell CPU + GeForce 840/940M in Edges worth to wait? In future I try to avoid AMD GPU due poor drivers support.I know that there is much better notebooks for gaming but I like ThinkPads

I Have this Lenovo Computers1. Think Centre M58 from 2008 an it is still good (Intel Q9550, 8GB DDR3, Radeon 6970, Intel SSD)2. ThinkPad E5403 ThinkPad Tab 2 (with it I have many problems)4. Lenovo Vibe Z2
