I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I plugged in the headphone into the audio jack, there is no sound.  The sound is coming from the internal speakers.  I just installed System Mechanic and ran a system analysis.  I don't know if the registry was changed or what.  There is not a problem with the headphone; I tried another headphone and have the same problem.  The laptop detects the headphone, an icon shows in the Notifications area saying a device was plugged in.

Answer:No sound when headphone is plugged into audio jack

Hello. See if it will work when you switch from the Realtel driver to the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.
[To get back to the Realtek driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]

I'm using windows 1064-bit. Hope anybody out there can help me out. thanks.

Hi, Omarattia  ?

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

You can also start by flushing out all static, remove battery and AC adaptor and hold down power button for about 15 seconds.

Check the Playback Devices under Sound Properties (by going to Control Panel > Sound > Playback Devices and see if the Headphone is being set as the default playback device. If not, click on it and set it as the default playback device, try to play a sample sound and observe.

I've recently been having a problem with my headphones. The computer recognizes that I've plugged them in but it still uses the external speakers and there's no sound coming through the headphones. I've tried more than one pair of headphones and it still doesn't work. Restarting the computer worked once but not anymore.

Answer:Speaker/headphone/audio jack problem

There is usually a hardware switch in the socket, which is engaged when you put the plug in. Seems like it might be mechanically broken.

Hey, everyone! I am having a problem with my audio jack:1. First of all my laptop doesn't seem to acknowledge when I put my headphones/external speakers in the jack... no notification or reaction from the Laptop.2. Second- only left headphone is working. Other than that the laptop speakers are good, the only problem is with the jack. What I've done is to reset my PC, to return it to it's factory settings... but no change! Still the same problem!Laptop is new.. less than 3 months..  I am desperate... I really hope there's something I can do and you could help me with that! I really don't think it''s a hardware problem.. I have taken good care of the machine, no troubles.Thank you!

Whenever I plug in my headphones into the jack, I no longer get a notification telling me my headphones are plugged in and Audio comes out of both the Headphones and the laptop speakers. This happend recently and didn't happen before. I have tried multiple headphones, all to the same effect. I am thinking this is a hardware issue. Does anybody have any solutions to fix?

Answer:Audio combo jack vs headphone/earphone with mic and speaker connector

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

On your computer the audio jacks along with the USB port are mounted on a card that is separate from the motherboard.  The two are then connected with a ribbon cable.  If your headphone jack is inoperable with more than one pair of headphones and the USB port does not work would be a good indication of a problem with the card.

Just to rule out a possible hardware conflict try doing a BIOS reset.  Just do this.......
1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Remove the battery. 3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If the reset did not correct the problem then I would suspect either the audio card is faulty or the ribbon cable has become disconnected.  In that case I would suggest you contact Lenovo Support for additional service especially if your warranty is still active.  You can find the phone number for Lenovo Support in your country or area by using the link below....http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/supportphonelist_alt1

I see you only have the generic, basic function, Windows installed "High Definition Audio Codec" and not the correct sound driver.

The first step is to get and install the correct sound driver.

This doesn't always happen, but I've noticed a few times on my T440p that when I have headphones plugged in, sounds comes out of the speakers. The headphones are functional and fully plugged in, yet no sound comes out of them, and the sound comes out of the speakers. I've fixed this multiple times by unplugging the headphones and plugging them back in. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, have you been able to fix it? The reason it is a problem for me is that it distracts those working around me. Thanks. (my problem differs from this one, where sounds comes from both the headphones and speakers)

Answer:T440p: Audio coming from speakers despite headphone being plugged into jack

Look for a multistream option in the Realtek audio control panel. Make sure it's set to unify headphones and speakers.Alternatively, if you want audio to only come out of the headphones and not switch dynamically, go to the Sound control panel in Windows, and set headphones as default.

hi,i have a HP  Evo n610c laptop,   while i had the headphones plugged in i accidentally dropped the laptop..  To my utter total disappointment this left me with no sound in the headphones and in the internal speakers.. decided to take the laptop apart and found that the headphone jack has been ripped right of the main board...     like i say i have no sound through the normal internal speakers... does the laptop think it still has headphones pluged in?  Is there anyway i can disable it?,   its a shame to think that little headphone jack can destroy all the sound on my laptop.  Or do you think i can bypass the head phone socket with a new wire on the main board.. the only problem is it has quite a few solder  points where the socket originally snapped off..... Please help.

Hello, Something is stuck inside my headphone jack (really no idea what, it looks like some amber colored resin) This caused no problems until i tried to stick my headphones in (because i didn't know there was something else inside)Now the little switch inside is activated and i can't use my normal speakers anymore. Pulling the thing out is not possible it really seems glued inside, i can remove small parts of it by scratching with a screwdriver but i see no way to remove it without a drill. I googled for ways to shut off the port so i can revert back to the normal speakers (i really don't care about losing the headphone jack, i normally only use speaker sound) It seems the installed realtek drivers allow no option to deactivate it. I tried reinstalling the realtek driver, changed registry option "EnableDynamicDevices" but didnt find the more promising "ForceDisableJD".  The Windows driver also didn't help and i didn't find any other drivers available for this notebook. The BIOS also didn't have any option for this (but maybe i'm just bad at finding it) Is there any way to disable the port on the software side or a way to disconnect the hardware? I have soldering equipment here. I really don't care for a clean solution anymore, just hoping for a way to get the sound. Thanks for your help. Edit: whoops almost forgot the essentials: this is a lenovo z510 with win7 64bit that was not pre-installed (bought without OS)

I've searched the forum as best I could and didn't find this issue being addressed. So, sometimes I listen to music with the headphones or even after a Skype call, I leave the headphone jack plugged in. If I put the laptop to sleep and wake it back up, unplugging the headphones will not return my sound setting back to the integrated speakers; I can only hear any sound if I plug the headphones back. I tried logging off and on again: no change. I tried to disable and re-enable "Realtek High Definition Audio" in Device Manager: no change. Uninstalling and re-installing it wouldn't be a proper solution if it had to be done all the time. The only thing that returns it back to normal is turning it off and on again... typical I.T. solution. Was there a driver update to fix this? Speaking of driver updates, I assume I can't find any BIOS update or any driver updates for the ideaPad due to the Sandy Bridge recall?? UPDATE: Sorry... found the consumer support lenovo sub domain site which is different from the IBM one... argh..

Hi,
My dell inspiron 14z 5423 no longer have sound from both the speakers and the earphone jack.
This happened after I replaced the Battery and also the hard disk from 500gb to 1TB and upgraded to windows 10.
Before this, I was using Windows 8.1 and everything was working well. I have returned it back to windows 8.1 but the no audio problem still persist.
Also, my speaker symbol on the task bar shows a "cross" sign with "no audio output installed" displaying when I hover on the speaker icon.
Please I need help. have tried all options i can think of including driver updates.
One more thing, the sound driver are not showing up on the device manager window where other drivers are displayed.

Thanks

Hello. Download this Win8.1 IDT audio driver for the Inspiron 14z 5423. There are two versions there -- get the one that says "File Format Hard Drive". Follow the installation instructions and see if the driver shows up in Device Manager.
If it doesn't, perform the PSA or ePSA sound test. If no sound during the test then there has been hardware failure. Could have happened during parts replacement.

when i plug in high quality headphones i notice a very high frequency sound(tested many headphones and multiple OSes in my laptop), got the sound card changed throgh warranty, but the problem persists, ive read that maybe is an EMI interference(video card maybe), an engeneering problem. do you also experience those? is there anything i can do?my laptop model is 20DM000VUS

Answer:thinkpad yoga 14 headphone jack high frequency sound

I do too! However I noticed, oddly enough, that the phenomenon goes away when I plug the thing into AC power. Also, when I first upgraded to W10, there were some major changes to the sound capabilites - I could watch a YouTube video comfortably at maybe 4 in W8.1 while I had to crank it up past 80 in W10. After updating to W10v1511 this issue has since been fixed, and the volume of this hissing has also decreased.I tried a good many things too. Reinstalling the sound drivers, and all that.

Have a good day.

I recently did a big update, which involved updating the BIOS (from version 1.91 to 1.93). Since then the speakers on the tablet, and headphones when attached, no longer produce sound. Sound works okay from the keyboard speakers. I've tried updating the driver (intel smart sound technology), as well as rolling back, uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. Nothing has worked so far. My best guess is that the BIOS update is responsible, since the tablet speakers and headphones also no longer work in linux, but did before the update. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions for a fix to try before downgrading the bios would be highly appreciated.

hi there, i just got myself an x100e and still configuring by myself on how to use it. it runs on windows vista with 250gb. this is my first time using a lenovo and windows vista product. just a little question. i have plugged in my headphone into the audio jack. but, the sound still came out from the internal speaker. also, how do i enable the internal and external microphone? i've been experimenting with the 'sound recorder' function to know whether the mic is working or not. but, i did'nt hear any sound being recorded although i have been speaking loudly on the internal mic which located below the 'ctrl' key. or, did i got the position wrong? about the headphone, i have tried using the 'sound' in the control panel. amazingly, when i test the headphone function over there, it works fine. i mean, i hear the sound in the headphone. but, if i were to play any audio using other apps such as youtube or windows media player, the sound still came put from the internal speaker phone, although i have plugged in my headphone at the same time. am i missing something? or should i change any setting over there?  also, i keep on hearing clicking sound from my laptop. not sure whether it is coming from my hard disk or not. the clicking sound is similar to the ticking sound from a moving seconds dial on a clock. the sound usually came out whenever i am running any programs on the laptop. so far, the laptop is working fine, but, just curious about the sound.. a... Ive had the kind of same problem with what i think is the hard drive. If its sitting quit, it sound like the hard drive is spooling up and then clicks, then spools, then clicks. If I run a program that takes any computing power, it clicks away. It come from the right side of the computer, below the enter key, on my laptop. Right now there isn't anything I can do. As i need the laptop for school and if I sent it off to lenovo it would take time to get it back. Right now I am saving everything to my google documents for the time being. Ive tested the hard drive on all the lenovo hard drive tests as well as seagate ones, nothing shows to be wrong. So I just have to live with the clicking until I send it back to lenovo under the warranty. To me clicking = bad. I had to have the hard drive replaced in my computer due to a defect in the drive. Ever since the hard drive was replaced, the head phone plug-in that is on the face of the tower does not work, but the speaker plug-in that is located in the back of the tower, works just fine.

I cannot figure out what is wrong. The audio driver installed for my system was obtained from the Dell website along with the majority of my other drivers.
Any help would be great.

Alright, so here's the problem. I just recently got this computer and plugged it into the VGA port and the sound wouldn't work. I plugged Logitech External Speakers into it and the computer didn't even acknowledge that it was there. I plugged in Headphones to see if those worked and they didn't aswell. I asked the guy who I got the computer from and he said that it (sound) would work when plugged in using HDMI. So I did that and the sound does work, but only through the TV speakers. It still doesn't acknowledge the speakers or the headphone s when plugged in. So I wen t and grabbed some other speakers I had and tried those and It still didn't recognize the speaker. My question is: How Do I Get My Computer To Recognize My Speakers? Any help would be much appreiciated.

Hi, I'm not sure how to properly describe this, but I've only ever had this problem with Lenovo Laptops. Consider the following, You plug in your headphones to an iPod or your phone, or a Desktop computer, and by default, you hear nothing. Just silence, like in real life, until you turn the volume up to maximum and you start to hear that weird sort of low staticy sound that sounds like a blank recording. The problem I am having is as follows. When I plug my headphones into my Lenovo Laptop, no matter the volume, that sounds always persists. If I have my volume set to 0, the sound goes away, but as soon as I set it to 1, the sound comes back. It doesn't go up or down depending on the decibel level, just stays the same. It aggravates me because I don't have this problem with any other audio device in my home. Only the laptop. I have created an example of what it sounds like. listen with headphones and turn the volume up so you can hear it. https://app.box.com/s/kdlpgpt08v5yfklk96z8 Anyone know any reasong why my audio jack sounds like this? There must be a solution if that sound isn't audible on any other of my devices. Help?

I have a 2.1 speaker set attached to my laptop that does not have its own headphone jack. So in order to listen to headphones I have to unplug the 2.1 from the headphone jack and plug in the headphones. I tried a cheap splitter but that didn't sound good.

What I would like is something that had two jacks that allowed me to keep the 2.1 plugged in all the time in one jack and when I want to use the headphones I could just plug them into the other jack. I would like both jacks whether used together or solo to have the same sound quality as a single jack... with no degradation in sound.

Lastly, I would like to be able to mute the 2.1 (using volume control on the speaker set) and still get great controllable sound out of the jack that have the headphones plugged in.

Is there something like that? Thanks.

hello friends
i have a problem here

firstly i'll tell you
-i have tested my speaker on another komputer and working properly
-i have checked on device manager, sound, video and game controllers have status "this device is working properly"
-i have instaled the latest realtek driver for my windows 7 32bit
-i have enabled my onboard sound in bios

mobo : asus p5gc-mx/1333

and this is my problem:
start-control panel->sound
on playback device, my speaker not plugged in although i have plugged it in

Answer:speaker/headphone not plugged in

The Device Manager may show it working properly but there may be a corruption in the status in Windows.

Assuming you have the correct ASUS supplied sound driver, RIGHT click on the Device Manager entry for the sound to highlight it and then LEFT click "Uninstall" DO NOT check the box to uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. If there was a corruption, this will fix that problem.

Hello I've bought my Lenovo laptop about half a year ago. From the very beginning the headphone audio jack had some problems, there would be no sound when headphones are plugged in, however restarting the laptop usually helped. I have not had this problem for a few months until now. When I plug in headphones, no sound comes out and restarting the computer does not help. Furthermore, the sound of the laptop speakers seems to be a big different than it normally used to be - the sound is a bit lower and so to say ''dimmer''. Please let me know I could fix it.

Hello Eight Forums.

My trouble is the audio output through headphones - background is louder than foreground (especially in music - I often cannot hear the vocals at all; movies however are mostly fine, for reasons unknown to me; but generally, the sound is always different in some way).

I only have one pair of headphones to test it with. However these always worked fine with previous machines, and still do work fine with my iPhone 4. Although they are surely not the case, I cannot with confidence say that if it were a loudspeaker instead things wouldn't have been different.

So this is either a software or a hardware issue.

Software

My computer (details at the bottom) came with a SoundBlaster X-Fi MB3 equalizer program and RealTek High Def Audio drivers. I've uninstalled SoundBlaster hoping it would fix the issue (I didn't need an extra program like that anyway) but alas to no avail. Updating the RealTek drivers did no good still.

The only thing I haven't touched is the ghostly NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (can it be the source of my trouble?) - I only first noticed it now when copy/pasting the Belarc data. I'll try and find out about it in the meanwhile.

I wonder if it perhaps has something to do with my audio jack (laptop's brand new, but you can never know). I have what appears to be mic, headphone, S/PDIF and line in jacks... Is there a way to use the microphone or the line-in to test the headphones? To see if the headphone out is broken.

Answer:Messed up headphone audio; want to check headphone jack

First, the "My System Specs" is where you fill in what you have.

Does the internal speakers on the laptop work? Is the audio OK on the internal speakers?

The SoundBlaster program(s) is a software enhancement to the basic audio chip (ReaklTek). Many PC's now come with some type of enhancement such as the SoundBlaster or in the case of HP PC's its "Beats Audio".

Well, I uninstalled my audio drivers and noticed that there was a red led shining from inside the 3.5mm headphone jack, which I assume is a mini optical audio (digital) combo 3.5mm audio (analog) jack, and I am figuring that it determins if there is an optical plug or not using drivers, which is why it turned on when I unistalled my audio drivers. I would like to know for sure before I go and buy a mini optical to toslink adpater cable so I can get better audio quality out (the digital interface does not suffer from the interference that the analog does right?). I did some research (research is a bit of an overstatement) and found no sites that mentioned it, so I have decided to turn to the forums. So, is this an optical jack combo? And, how will it work in terms of the drivers, will it just auto select? Thanks.

Ok so I finished my new PC, one of the main new parts in the motherboard, a Biostar hifi a85s3.  my older gtx 550 ti, and an AMD APU.  I have everything running well on it (this is posted from said PC) except for I can't get the sound on.  I installed realtek HD audio manager (came on the disk with the mobo) and tried clearing the CMOS afterwards, but windows troubleshooting just says that nothing is plugged in.  I have tried the audio ports on the board, as well as the ones hooked up on the front of the case.  Other than that I have no idea what's causing this or what to do about it.

Answer:Headphone/speaker does not appear to be plugged in to windows 7

I'd disconnect the front panel audio cable from location in attached pic and then see if the ports on the motherboard respond to headset attached to the rear of the computer. Some cases come with 2 plugs, one with a loop and the other without a loop. If you get your audio to respond when front panel audio cable is removed then, you know where the problem is, but if the problem remains then it could be a defective board. With Windows 7, I ran into driver feature issues with Windows 7 on a Biostar MCP6PB M2+, but this board was manufactured for 2000/XP/Vista. My problems with audio are that sound works fine but I have no microphone as well as although the HD Audio Panel that use to display on the screen when a device was added to allow selection for audio system or headset to be selected as the device that is plugged in no longer pops up when this motherboard is running on Windows 7. When it use to run on XP prior using the driver software off the CD that came with the motherboard everything worked including microphone. Biostar has no extended support for this board for Win 7 so I figured out which chipset I had for audio and manually installed a Windows 7 driver and this which should have fixed the microphone port, but it didnt.I installed the Windows XP hard drive back into this system and the MIC works still so the port isnt bad. Left the hard drive in there in case I ever need to run Windows XP, however I am running Windows 7   99.9% of the time. To fix my MIC... Read more

Hello Forum, I hope I'm posting this in the right place...?

My device:G780 Notebook (M843RGE I3-2370M), Windows 7
Audio Driver: Conexant Audio Driver for Microsoft Windows 7 Version  8.54.32.50 (Smart Audio: 6.0.131.0)

Situation:My headphone jack is broken. Repair is too expensive. Instead, I want to redirect the audio signal to the microphone jack.

Problem:This seems not to be possible with my SmartAudio interface (Screenshot below). But I found a screenshot of exactly the function I need called "Jack Configuration" in the Help section (second screenshot below). It looks like I dont have the right system configuration (whatever that means, I'm not an IT/PC expert ...) to use this feature.

My question:
Is there any way I can reconfigure the audio jacks on my notebook? Do I need another Conexant Audio Driver software and if yes, which one?

I'm grateful for any helpful reaction!

I'm guessing that it's probably just a compatibility issue... or just how it is, but I'm curious:

I updated my laptop from Windows XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro a while back. It started out as just a minor inconvenience, but it's getting to be very annoying. When I plug in my external speakers (via the headphone jack) or my headphones, Windows doesn't automatically switch the sound output to the headphone jack. I have to manually switch it ("Manage Audio Devices"). The same is true for the reverse, when I unplug my headphones.

Is there any way around this, or is it likely an issue with the compatibility of my sound card?

Please and thank you!

Answer:Headphone jack/on board speaker issue

Do you have the correct Windows 7 drivers for your Audio system? The XP drivers are not compatible and you need at a minimum Vista drivers as Vista and Windows 7 handle sound functions differently than XP.

On most newer "HD Audio" systems the jack is "auto sensing" and switches "logically". On many older PC systems that is a mechanical function with the jack.

On my C50 the sound is fine through the laptop speakers but when I plug in a jack to the headphone socket the sound only comes out through the right speaker. When you do a test of the IDTspeaker, you can hear both left and right sounds but both come from the right speaker (like its in mono). There is no headphone device appearing in the sound playback devices - looking at some fora it looks like there should be. I have reinstalled the idt driver from Toshiba site (2014). I have also used windows to get the latest sound driver but none of this helps. it did work before and seems to have gone wrong after a windows 8 update. Can anyone help please?

Answer:whats the speaker headphone jack on the cd drive??

its analogue sound for cd's. its normally not used. in fact i think its been sort of obsolete since windows 98. there is an option somewhere in media player to disable digital sound for cd's or something along those lines which will probably allow you to use headphones on the front jack

Hello,

I just purchased a new notebook, and I have a bit of a problem. When I plug headphones into the side headphone jack, the sound quality is downright terrible. Very shortly I noticed that it didn't sound as good/decent as my older notebook.

The speakers seem to sound fine, well you know - as good as laptops can sound.

Right now I have two notebooks side by side:
a friends Samsung Series 3 (NP300E5C), with Windows 8 (upgraded from W7) / Microsoft High Definition audio
my Toshiba L50 Windows 8 / Realteck High Definition

I dont have my older notebook anymore, but I do remember it sounding better. Comparing this Toshiba to the Samsung (both sitting on the desk side-by-side), the Toshiba sounds a little better through the speakers, but there is no comparison with the headphone - The Samsung is pretty decent while the Toshiba makes me cry.

Now granted, I'm not expecting a symphony, but if I cant solve this I'm going to have to sell the Toshiba.

I've tried uninstalling Realtek, but I couldn't get the sound to work.
Re-installing Realtek solved nothing

One thing I noticed, there is no 'headphone' icon in the device manager (Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Sound / or simply right click the audio icon in the taskbar). Are the headphones not high definition or something?

Monitor w/ built in speakers is an HP f2105.

Windows 7 32bit

I turned my computer off for a week. The first time it's ever been off in 5 years. It has an onboard Realtek soundcard. It worked perfectly before leaving for vacation. I come back and there is no sound. Headphones work and the speakers work when plugged into the front panel headphone jack.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and making Onboard Sound Card "Enabled" in BIOS. Is it likely that the onboard sound just stopped working while being shut off or is there another underlying issue?

Answer:Speakers only work plugged into headphone jack

Will the headphones work when plugged into the back panel (green jack)?

I have Lenovo 3000 Y410 laptop having Windows 7 Home Premium installed on it. Realtek HD Audio latest driver is installed. But from the last 3 days, when I connect headphone through laptop, following things happen : -
1) Headphone connected popup doesn't show up.
2) Mic of Headphone connected pop shows up.

3) When I play video, sound coming from both headphone & laptop speakers.
4) When I mute sound by muting sound icon in taskbar, sound then comes only from headphone.

What I have tried?
1) Installed new Realtek HD Audio Manager.
2) Installed OS again.
3) Tried to change settings in Realtek Hd Audio Manager. But Nothing changes.

When I input headphone & mic jacks into laptop, & then check Realtek HD Audio Manager. The following image shows this : -

The green in realtek hd audio manager is for headphone & red is for mic. In the image, it is shown that headphone not connected & mic connected. But even headphone not connected shows up, sound coming form headphone.

I want to get sound from only headphone when headphone is connected. Is this a hardware problem ?

Please help....

Answer:Sound coming from both headphone & speaker but headphone is not detect

My Realtek HD Audio Manager has more options than yours.

Also, I notice you only have the microphone in the Recording Section of the Sound Panel. RIGHT click in an empty space in that Panel and then LEFT click Show Disabled and Disconnected devices. The Stereo Mix should be shown and you can enable that and make it the default Recording device.

Where did you get the RealTek driver that you installed? If you are not using the Lenovo supplied sound driver, get that and install it as a first step. I have a Lenovo Laptop and it has Stereo Mix and other functions. I haven't looked at the RealTek HD manager so I'm not sure what all it shows.

When I have headphones plugged in, the sound still comes from the speakers. When the headphone jack is plugged / unplugged the taskbar and start menu become unresponsive for a moment (between 30 seconds to 5 minutes at times).   I get a notification that it was plugged/unplugged by B&O window right away, then taskbar etc becomes frozen for a while, then a second notification comes up telling me it was plugged/unplugged again then its ok until i use audio jack again. Ive seen this problem on several forum posts, some ppl had luck making a new user account, some needed to wipe the whole drive and reinstall. But reintalling the drivers doesnt seem to work as I and several others tried this with not results. If anyone has a solution for this problem it would be much appreciated. thanks.

Hello,I am currently having an issue with my Lenovo Y50 laptop where the audio to the headphone jack will cut out randomly. This problem is particularly puzzling because if I remove my headphones from the audio jack when the sound cuts out, the audio output will imediately switch to the speakers on my laptop, and work normally. However, as soon as I plug my headphones back in, the audio will stop again. The computer also shows that it is emitting audio according to the sound levels, but it is not. Now, I can fix this problem by simply restarting my laptop. Every single time I restart my computer, the audio will output to my headphones completely fine, but then the audio will randomly stop again, and can only be fixed by restarting the computer. Disabling and reneabling my RealTek audio does nothing, and swtiching my default audio output from RealTek to another audio device and back also does nothing. These same headphones also work completely fine with my phone audio, so I know that it has nothing to do with the headphones themselves. Any help with this issue would be much appreciated.  EDIT:It is also worth nothing that even when this problem occurs, if I plugin or remove headphones from the audio jack, my laptop recognizes the headphones being plugged in or removed.

Hi

I have spent many hours researching this and trying several solutions. I have bought brand new leads just in case. The problem seemed to start from nothing!

I use the front jack only, which I plug into my amp with a 'headphone > 2x phono' lead. Now only the left channel gives out sound. If I use the mono button on the amp it comes through both (so I've eliminated the amp being the problem). As I said I bought new leads. Still no good.

It gets worse, because I tried the rear and side jacks and get nothing through my amp. In the audio manager test screen it does give me sound through eaach REAR speaker but when its plugged into the front jack only left.

I've uninstalled the drivers, got new ones and even uninstalled Windows and tried Windows7 and I still get the same issue.

It is the onboard soundcard and I don't know if it is possible that there could be a fault.

Any help would be brilliant, thanks.

Hello & Welcome, moneylife.

If your sound card is on your motherboard, I'd just suggest getting another motherboard since it's most likely a jack malfunction on your sound card.

Try this link for many great deals on sound cards. I've gotten good deals from there, and they don't scam you.

Hello Jimco,
I have a Dell 5548 with a 1080p touch screen, Core i5 &12GB of Ram. After updating to windows 10 I have had a number of issues with this laptop.
1)The most annoying of all is that the speaker volume fluctuates from high to low at any given setting which is extremely frustrating. One time its loud then all of a sudden it reduces then a few seconds later its up again. Is this a hardware issue or a software issue as this didn't happen on windows 8.1?
2)The Headphone Jack is too tight. If I try too insert any earphones or headphones it will go in to a certain degree then i have to apply force but it still wont go in. If i try to apply more force it seems that it will break as there is a creaking sound. sound from the speakers isn't fine and i cant even use earphones :(
3) My laptop has a real sense camera and it just stops using its infrared sensors or depth sensors when setting up windows hello. It tells me to place my face in the centre of the screen and then no response even though i can see what the webcam is showing me.
I hope you can answer my questions as it would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

How can I uninstall Dell Audio and only have the legacy Realtek Driver and Software in my XPS 14 (L421x)?
I installed some time age the default audio driver that I got from "Dell Drivers", this installed the "Dell Audio" + "MAXX AUDIO 4". I already uninstalled this thing, run CCleaner, deleted the folders, and downloaded and installed the legacy Realtek R 2.73 driver, but this thing (Dell Audio) is always installing with the driver.
My system audio is ridiculously loud. I need to put my system audio in somewhat 5~15 / 100% to get "normal audio", the only way I get realistic "normal audio range" is using my SteelSeries Wireless Headset with USB, this way the system audio goes to 100% automatically and I control the audio with the scroll located in the headset, even in 100% max audio, I get a "normal 100%", it's loud, but not EXTREME like the notebook audio!
Another problem, when I plugin my Apple Earpods, they simple doesn't work, I already tested them with tons of devices at home, and they are working great. The system doesn't even recognize them.
I think that everything would be resolved if I could install the Leagacy Realtek drivers & software, not this *** loaded with bloatware from Dell, I don't care about "MAXX Audio", "MaxxSense" and all this BS. If you look with attention, all the settings located in this "Dell Audio" menu are the same in the Real... Read more

This is probably an extremely nit-picky post but I was wondering if any other P50 owners are experiencing any "play" or wiggle room with their 3.5mm headphone jack when a headset is plugged in. I notice on mine that when I plug in my headphones, the connection itself is solid however, it seems that the outer casing of the jack between the outerbody of the laptop have space in between causing the casing to move in between.  So far I haven't seen any issue with the functionality of the jack itself but I'm a little concern that the jack might be loose somewhere inside which might cause it to fail prematurely.

sounds like analog issue, maybe a loose cable? bluetooth and HDMI audio is digital, so thats why they work flawless. however, im not sure what sort of playstation2 adapter you are using, is it USB-to-3.5mm jack sort of or? or 2x3,5mm-to-USB or ?

The audio jack is not working after putting the computer to sleep. I have reinstalled the audio drivers, updated the BIOS and the Chipset. Then I restore the win7 to a previous day, and nothing. Then the next day I tried with a different headset and it worked, then tried with mineand also work, but now again the jack is not working. When a connect theplug I can listen a small sound that looks like the earbuds are receiving asignal but no sound after that. Please any ideas. Regards.

Hello BleepingComputer

I just upgraded my computer a few days ago, and I am having problems with the Front Jack Audio/Headphone.

Normally, I set my Headphone to run simultaneous with my Speaker with Realtek HD audi/Stereo Nix (Disable Front Jack Detection and vice versa), and I could change the volume on both devices separately.
But since I changed the motherboard, when I have realtek installed, it doesn't have the Headphone setting in Sound/Playback.
The headphone work perfectly, but its linked to the Speaker's volume, which is really annoying.
Also, the Realtek layout changed from the last one I got, and doesn't have the "Disable Front Jack Detection" option.
(Picture: http://i903.photobucket.com/albums/ac232/notyellowasian11/Untitled-1_zps2242cdba.jpg)

So far, I have tired..
Installing an older version of Realtek driver;
Changing the audio setting in the BIOs (HD or AC97)
Changing the audio connector on the MOBO (Hd or AC97)
Tried multiple compinations with Realtek HD audio manager settings.
Cleaned every plugs/jacks related on that.

So far, I couldn't been able to get the Headphone tag at all when Realtek is installed.

Thanks !

I have a T520 thinkpad with a docking station.  I can get my headphones to work fine out of the laptop, but I would like to leave my headphones plugged into the headphone jack on the dock itself.  The computer doesn't seem to recognize this jack is even there.  My only sound options are the laptop speakers and the audio jack on the right side of the laptop. Any ideas how to enable the audio jack on the back of the dock?

welcome to the community. if you open your control panel and select the "sound" icon, and then "speakers", and finally click the "properties" button, what do you see displayed in the "jack information" section while docked?

My headphone jack doesn't output to the right headphone when I plug it in all the way. If I ever so slightly pull out the headphone jack about an 1/8th of an inch to the next knob it will output to both left and right headphones but with a high pitched noise in the background. Should I submit my laptop for servicing? Is there a fix to this issue? I have tried multiple headphones (which I have tested on other devices, that work fine on them) and this issue still persists.

Hello, A costumer brought an E530 laptop with a problem with the sound: when you plug in earphones/headphones in the jack on the right side nothing happens. The sound continues to be played by the computer speakers and nothing is heard on the earphones. Juggling a bit with the jack I was able to make it work if I don't insert the plug all the way in and move it a bit. So, I asked for a replacement part for that board. I got the new one today and same thing is happening: sound only goes out through speakers unless I jiggle a bit the plug. I know is not a Windows issue because same thing happens if I boot the computer with a Linux Live CD. Do you have any suggestions on what could be happening? Or I just got a faulty part and I need to request a replacement to Lenovo? I don't think that the issue is located within the systemboard seeing that moving the jack makes it work. Sortof...

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad E530 headphone/mic jack not working

Hi FranciscoPeralt,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

Did you check with updating the BIOS once, could be issue with BIOS firmware?
Also run ThinkVantage system update utility and update all the latest drivers and application for your system to confirm it is not with the driver related issue.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Hi Forum,I use my computer a fair amount for music editing and my amplifier has just died on me.The Amp I was using was very cheap and didn't need to do anything special.Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to find anything similar now.All I need to do is convert an Audio RCA input to a headphone jack output. The signal needs to be amplified as the input signal static so simply connecting straight to the RCA won't work.Anyone got any ideas of the cheapest way to do this? Or anyone know where I can get a cheap amp with a headphone jack output and RCA input? As always, any help appreciated.

Answer:Audio RCA to Headphone Jack?

I should imagine a trip to your local Maplins would sort you out. They have a wireless RF Headphone set (L 47 AA) which plugs into your source and Bobs your uncle ! Alternatively they have a cheap audio amp on a board which you can easily convert to your requirements with a couple of RCA plugs and sockets. OR, try EBay ???

4. Asia Pacific Support is not giving me an RMA/Return Authorization through support. Refuses to acknowledge problems.
5. Lenovo giving me useless answers, telling me it doesnt work, not supported yet i know if they put some 10 minutes of work into it. it can be done, researching BIOS MODDING to do it myself and prove Lenovo Wrong

That means Windows is trying to output to your SPDIF audio output, which is optical. Go into your Playback preferences, and change from Digital Out to Speakers.

I recently got a ThinkPad Edge 15 inch with the Intel processor. I hadn't had any problems until I tried my headphones when I was playing some music from iTunes. I noticed that the sound quite frequently skips and lags (i.e. the music doesn't play like it should). I did some investigating, so I went on YouTube and found that the sound in the videos did the same thing as with iTunes. Then, I got one of my other pairs of headphones and found that the same thing still happens. I also tried playing sound online and on iTunes through the speakers and it came out just fine. Essentially, can I stop this from happening, and if so, how. Otherwise, what do I do because I use headphones a lot and this will severely irritate me over time. Thanks in advance for your help!

Answer:ThinkPad Edge 15 inch - Headphone jack skips and lags

So it turns out that I was wrong, the problem still persists regardless of if I'm using the built-in speakers or headphones through the jack.

Equal Left & Right Speaker Balance Causes T61 Audio Volume To Go To Zero on Front Audio Jack. -- SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD AudioWhen the left and right sound channels on the T61 sound card are set to be equal, no sound comes out of the front speaker jack for IE8 or Windows Media Player. Shifting the L and R off equal (e.g. Left 20 and Right 30) the sound comes back on. Moving them back toward equal setting slowly decreases the speaker volume until it is gone. I reloaded and reinstalled the SoundMAX driver, but no change. I really didn't notice this until we started with iTunes which definitely notices L and R levels on playback.  Setting L = R and, whoops, no sound at all. And, this doesn't happen to the onboard T61 speakers.  They work as you would expect the L & R to work. I am setting speaker balance from Control Panel -> Sound  -> Speakers -> Levels -> Balance This is really bizarre. BTW, 64-bit Vista Any suggestions?   I'd like equal L & R balance AND volume from the front jack. Message Edited by rmyork on 08-14-2009 09:51 AM

Answer:Audio jack seems not detect my headphone

With what you stated you've tried, it could be an internal connection problem. Many Laptops have a small I/O board that is connected via a cable to the main board. If yours is this type, it may require "reseating" (unplug then plug back in) the connector.

Immediately whenever a headphone or earbud is plugged in, the audio is crackly, until I go to the realtek audio manager which doesn't have many options. once I change the Left-Right balance to being very one-sided, the cracks and pops don't occur anymore. However all of the balance is off, voices are not audible, and SFX or background music/tracks are output very bad.Testing the left-right balance, both play the same as if the headphones are mono audio.

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Did you check headphones with with different system?
Check your speaker and headphone connections for loose cables or the wrong jack.
Check your power and volume levels, and try turning all the volume controls up.
Also, try updating the BIOS

My external speakers work fine, are loud for a laptop, really.

When I plug my headphones into the headphone jack (and yes, it's the right jack), there's no change, the audio continues from the external speakers.

I had the motherboard replaced recently, as it went dead, by a Dell tech, so could he have put it back together incorrectly?

Answer:No audio output from headphone jack

It sounds like the headphone jack wasn't connected back to the motherboard, or perhaps the tech mixed up the mic/headphone jacks.

I've been watching the Playback devices in the sound control panel and I'm rather confused why this is happening. Essentially, if I am listening to music (or anything for that matter), and I plug in headphones, the computer acknowledges that headphones are plugged in, but keeps the sound going to the previous device. Once I stop the music, then restart it, the sound will go to the headphones. If I unplug the headphones, the sound does not go back to the speakers until whatever program outputting sound restarts.Any ideas on this one?Edit: I should specify. It seems to only route the audio to another device once the program itself is restarted.

It does not have a headphone jack nor audio rca(red/white) outputs. This pretty strange since this is a fairy new tv. Is there any way I can connect headphones to this tv? Possible Solution:
Put Windows to Sleep, then wake it up. Headphone jack audio will be restored.

Problem:
Headphone jack randomly stopped outputting audio.
volume control at 100% and appearing to work normally. Laptop internal speakers worked fine.
Windows detects headphones plugged in, but no sound in headphones.
Uninstall sound card and realtek drivers, reboot did not fix problem.

Tested Linux live CD and headphones worked in Linux.
So hardware was definitely not broken. Only Windows was broken.

(I had this issue recently, so I'm leaving this here for search engine results and anyone who has this problem in the future)

Found your post after filtering search results to recent hits and this trick worked! This problem only creeped up a short while ago, so maybe it has to do with recent Windows updates.

Hi, Just bought a new Acer E15 (E5-571G). It works great, but in my daily life, I have to use headphones a lot (I don't use laptop speakers at all). But no matter how hard I try, sound is coming both from speakers and the headphones. I have the latest Realtek HD audio drivers. Realtek recognizes when a device is plugged in the audio jack, but still, under 'playback' devices, there is only one option - Speakers.  Running Windows 10, Build 10162. The headphones work great on another laptop with the same build. This is my last resort, Please help! Hello, I am running windows 7 home premium 64 bit on a new Dell Inspiron 14z -5432 laptop with built-in skull candy speakers and Maxx audio. the Audio in the right speaker is much quieter than the left speaker. I checked the drivers and the L/R balance and all were OK. The problem continues when I plug in my headphones to the headphone jack. The audio balance doesn't help or fix the problem. My sound card is IDT High Definition Audio CODEC. When I open my IDT audio control panel and test the speakers or headphones, the sound is stronger on the left and gets some sound 'leaking' from the right speaker. But when I test the right speaker, It is quieter and gets no sound 'leakage' from the left speaker. I don't know how to fix this problem. Any help?

Answer:Help. Audio is much quieter in right speaker/headphone.

This sounds more like a hardware problem than something in the driver or applications software.

You can post on the Dell users form, Laptop section, and maybe someone can offer something there, but contacting Dell support is the best option.

If this is a new PC, bought directly from Dell, you have 21 days from the date on the Dell invoice to call them and request a return if you are not happy with the PC. Many times they will offer to replace it with another new one rather than issue a refund.

I can't hear sound through the headphones setting, and I can only hear sound by playing Rear out on 4 channel or 6 channel or swapping the Mic for subwoofer output. My sound is lower than it should be, and even lower for audio streaming.
I've found Sound Effects/Environment to usually be part of the problem for the latter.
