I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Hi all, I have a 1 month old Lenovo Thinkpad E460 that won't run on battery. The notification bar says it has 98% of battery all the time and that it is not charging. I can't unplug the AC cable since the laptop turns of, so any tries to reset the battery with Lenovo software does'nt work. The laptop has a built in battery so I dont think that open the laptop and remove the battery is a good Idea because I might void the warranty. Anyone had a similar experiance? Anyone now what to do?

Answer:Regarding Lenovo ThinkPad E460 IWS

Hi ben-wu511 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

This article would be a good reference for you:
Checking for International Warranty Service (IWS)

It is a good thing that you are checking possible warranty coverage outside point of purchase .
Basically , IWS at times would not be able to apply on a specific region specially if they do not market it there and this only meant that repair parts would likewise be "not available" and that repairs are redirected to the location of point of purchase.

As an example. for the Edge Series laptops (ThinkPad) E460 (ThinkPad) , I used 20ET for the machine type on the IWS think look up page . It gave me Lenovo Canada 1-800-426-7378 and depending on the region in Canada , either showing Onsite service or "best effort" . As a suggestion best to give Lenovo a call to verify if they would be able to support in warranty repair for the specific model and Machine type .

Hope this helped answer your query.

Regards

I have a 14 month old Thinkpad E460 i7 with 8GB RAM and 1TB HDD running Windows 10. Lately I've noticed that on starting up the laptop either from off or from hibernation, the Disk Usage is running at 100% for some time often 10-15 minutes before settling down. This is often with minimal transfer rates as shown below. The disk has been defragmented. This leads to a very sluggish laptop when it is at 100%. Trying to watch netflix is almost impossible for 10-15 minutes as the computer just can't seem to buffer the data on the hard disk.  I've checked with a 2 year HP laptop and even on startup disk usage is only around 50%. Anyone having similar problems.  Is this likely to be a hardware or software issue. I've tried updating the firmware to the HDD from the Lenovo website. I've had so many issues with this laptop I don't think I'll ever buy Lenovo again. 100% Disk Usage

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad E460 High Disk Usage 100%

The quickest way to find out I would think would be to click on the Process Tab in Task Manager and then click on the Disk column's header to sort it to show the processes with the highest disk access at the top.     Knowing what process, or processes are causing the high disk usage, may help you identify the culprit. If you are concerned about the hard disk, you can Right Click on Start, select Command Prompt Admin, and then in the window type:   chkdsk c:  and press Enter to scan the HD for errors.   I will not fix the errors, but if it finds any it will prompt you to run it again in fix mode:  chkdsk c: /f   and schedule it to run on the next boot. Good Luck,

Hello. Last week a got a brand new ThinkPad E460 factory sealed for work. And it've had troubles with it out of the box, I have a ThinkPad T450s private and have never experienced anything like this on my private laptop. So of the bath to tends to freeze at Lenovo logo in BIOS boot screen. And I have to press a bunch of keys for it to continue. I think I might have fixed this issue by disableing secure boot and anti-theaft. It didn't always happen, but it happend every morning at work. I disabled these features now so I can't confirm or deny if that problem is competely ficked. I have of coruse updated the BIOS and all drivers. My second issue is that EVERY time, not only when I restart but also if I sign out of my account and back in again is that my TouchPad refuse to work if I don't click a key (any key) on the lenovo keyboard in addition to this left arrow key is in a loop. This is really annoying as I use this with a dock at my workplace. If I move the coursor to a textfield with my external mouse or the Trackpoint (that works fine regardless if I click on the keyboard or not) I will see the corusing being moved to the left contantly untill I click a key at the keyboard. What is going on? These issues seems really strange to me and not something you'd epxect.

Answer:ThinkPad E460 - TouchPad Will not work untill lenovo keyboard is pressed and arrow left is in a loop

I have not had the POST freeze problem, although I did have a bug with Yubikey, I had to push the Yubikey button twice to input the second part of my long VeraCrypt password, this was solved with a BIOS update.. Also my right speaker sounds broken on higher volumes, and OSD brightness bar is stuck on screen after waking up from S3 suspend, but goes away if I adjust the brightness with the keys on the keyboard. I do also have the TouchPad lockup problem! I have noticed the same, random lockups of the TouchPad. The TrackPoint works but the TouchPad locks up. It is restored by pushing a keyboard key or the TrackPoint mouse keys, or just leaving the TouchPad alone for a while (5-10 seconds). I got this machine with Windows 10 pre-installed but decided to go back to Windows 7 since Windows 10 has been nothing but a big PITA. I didn't notice this problem on Windows 10, but I have plenty of other Windows 10 specific problems. After installing all the latest drivers available for E460 (latest available from the site at the time, September 2016) this problem popped up. Current driver: 8.216.1616.135 I just checked System Update and noticed an update for the ALPS ThinkPad UltraNav Driver, so I'll update and check back (if I remember). New driver: 8.216.1616.151[Problem fixes]- Fixed an issue related to TouchPad Cursor no response in a short time after resume from S3 by lid close Maybe this have or will fix your TouchPad problem too.

Hello again, I know I haven't posted in a while, but I have a computer problem. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad W500 running Windows 7 Home Premium, and I recently cleaned out the hard drive. I reinstalled the operating system and last night, the battery charged 100%, and a few hours ago, when I plugged the charging charging cord into the computer and turned the computer on, and the computer said the battery was at 5% charge, plugged in but not charging. (P.S. I installed the itunes 64 setup file to set itunes back up again.) The computer said that there were problems with the battery and I should consider getting a new battery. The charging cord is plugged into the computer, and I intend to have the charging cord plugged into the computer overnight. Should I? And what site or store should I go to to get a new battery? Do I need a new charging cord? Or is there is a way to solve it without getting a new charging cord ot battery? Any help would be greatly appeeciated.

Hello Guys, Since I couldn't find any solution for my problem, I decided to write here, hoping that someone (either from team Lenovo or from the users) have the same problem and therefore can help me. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 13 model (version 0217). (I bought it from a friend, since it was not shipped anymore when I decided to buy it.)I have problems with my battery. The design capacity of it is 62.12 Wh, I used it wisely, so it wasn't always charged up to 100%. I always discharge it down around 5-7% and then plug in the AC adapter. (See image.)  My first problem is that in the last 3 months, the capacity is gone down to 45.88 Wh and I can't really figure out why. Can this be a generic problem with the battery? My second problem is - for which I've found another topic here but it didn't help me - that when I charge the battery, charging stops at 99%, showing "3 minutes is remaining" and if I unplug and replug the adapter, it stops as 99% saying it is fully charged. In the battery maintenance, I changed the settings from "Always fully charge" to Custom, but still, it won't charge up the battery fully.  My third problem is that I updated the BIOS of my laptop some days ago and when I try to search for a battery firmware update or when I do a battery gauge reset, the system suddenly shuts down without any warning or whatever. I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this, I really love my laptop but it really bugs me..... Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 13 (0217) battery problem

1) Battery do wear out eventually, you already have 234 cycles on the battery. So the battery capacity drop in the latter part of the cycles count is quite normal. It is nature of these battery to wear out. 2) For thinkpads, this behaviour is quite normal, this helps to prevent unnecessary wear on the battery cell. Once you use your battery back to say 95% or so, it will recharge back to 100%. 3) Are you saying that your laptop no longer works or that it intermittently shuts down?

So I got myself the Lenovo ThinkPad W510 the other day, specific model being "431929G", along with it I got myself a 9-cell battery instead of the included 6-cell as well as this additional "slice battery" solutions which you attach at the bottom of the computer using the docking port it seems? The box which this slice battery came in was marked model 57Y4545, the piece of battery inside however says FRU: 42T4739? I guess and hope it's the same thing?  It does attach to the bottom of my W510 without any issues whatsoever, I lock it in place so I get that green indicator which should mean it's supposed to function? But it doesn't.. ThinkVantage Power Manager do pick up the battery but it's just standing there at 12% battery with no activity? Even after the main 9-cell is fully charged it wont start to charge the slice battery? I did even remove the main 9-cell in order to see whether or not that would change anything, but it didn't? And if I remove the power cord when running only the slice battery the W510 will just drop dead? So it's not charging, neither is it providing my W510 with any more battery life? It just sits the with 12% battery with no activity whatsoever, no charging or usage at all?

Answer:ThinkPad Battery 27++ (9cell) 57Y4545 wont work with my Lenovo ThinkPad W510?

Are you sure you're running the latest power manager? I.e., have you updated all the system drivers, os drivers, bios, etc.?

Hello and welcome,

How you get there may vary with OS, but try this (Win 10):

Search "display", select "display settings", "advanced settings", "display adapter properties", then the "screen configuration" tab.  There should be a checkbox "enable on-screen display" and below that a few options.

I am having the following issue on my E460 (Win 10, 64bit) I've tried to use Gephi (an opensource network-analysis tool) on my machine. Install process succeeds without problems but when I run Gephi the following error pops up: "OpenGl ES Error - Can't find the name of Intel ICD OpenGL driver". when I close the errorbox I can still use the programm but I can not export or draw any visualization. Due to this error I checked for intel updates with "Intel Driver Update Utility 2.6" which resulted in a warning that it would be recommended to use lenovo-supported driver updates instead. So next I checked for updates in "Lenovo Companion" and installed the update "Intel Video Driver - 10 [64] - v21.20.16.4534" but starting Gephi still brings up the same problem. What I've also checked is with which data the "AMD Radeon Configuration"-Tool comes up: My graphics-chip is a "AMD Radeon R7 M360" and version of the installed software is "17.1.1" which should be up-to-date. Here I can find OpenGL-Version 6.14.10.13464. I've also downloaded the "OpenGL Extensions Viewer 4.5.2" which comes up with intel HD Graphics as renderer and OpenGL-Version 4.4. Testing OpenGL here does work without problems. I have no Idea where the problems lie and why Gephi is not working when OpenGL seems to be included in all drivers and work well in general. Maybe someone can help?

So I've got a ThinkPad E460 from a year ago. The laptop has been working well so far. Recently however, the combo jack has stopped working. When I plug in a headphone, the SmartAudio program should automatically detect that and show me the options for the jack. However, recently the program has stopped detecting the combo jack when I plug headphones in it. The USB port next to the jack has also stopped working. Is there a fix for this? I think this might be a hardware problem, but I can't be sure. I really need to be able to use my headphones with this laptop. Thanks for your help

Hi all, I have a new ThinkPad E460, day old. One thing I noticed is that the power button has a small circle in the middle of it, however on pressing it, the small circle on the power button does not light up to a green light, like on the other ThinkPads. So my question is, is this supposed to light up to a small green light or is the abscence of the small green light normal behaviour. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have a Thinkpad E460 that did a bios update and now won't boot. When I press the power button, the red light flashes 3 times and the fan runs and the screen backlight turns on, but that's it. I have unplugged the battery and held down the power button. I unplugged the cmos and internal battery and left them unplugged overnight. I unplugged the ram/cmos/hdd and then it beeps 1-3-3-1. I tried different ram. Any other ideas?

Hello I've bought brand new e460 with i7-6500U, 8GB RAM and Radeon r7 m360 a week ago. Since then I've encountered weird  cooling-related issue three times. Fans are starting to spin as fast as it's possible making a lot of noise.  Neither CPU nor GPU is under any stress, so it's totally out of blue. GPU is not even activated and CPU temperature is about 40 Celcius degrees. After 5 seconds laptop shuts down by itself. After that I can simply turn it on as always. I'm sure it's neither thermal paste nor overheating issue. The only solution I found was to turn off active cooling in power management. This is not a solution I'm looking for even though that issue never happend while working on battery power (active cooling turned off). The only thing I did to the laptop was installing drivers and necessary software. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

Hi,I have been searching for RAM for my Thinkpad E460, I have got my fingers crossed when I found that E460's specs page has indicates that it supports DDR3L.http://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad%20E460/ThinkPad_E460_specs.pdf BUT, when I checked CPU ID info on my machine, it indicates that I have DDR3 installed.                     My question is: Does it supports Both DDR3 OR DDR3L? Or what exactly does it supports? Looking forward to replies in this thread. Mateen

Answer:Thinkpad E460 Ram supports DDR3 or DDR3L

It's upgradable to DDR3L, but a DDR3 memory stick came with your computer. You should be able to upgrade to a DDR3L memory module just fine.

Hi, I got a ThinkPad E460 running Windows10 Pro.  The integrated camera was working before but when I tried to use Skype for the first time in a few months this morning, video didn't show.  Then I ran the Camera app in Win10 and it gave me the error code 0xA00F4271(0x80070005) even though it was shown as "working" in Device Manager.  The camera still doesn't work after deleting it in Device Manager and letting Win10 reinstall by itself, updating the camera driver, checking the privacy settings, etc.  I don't know if this is related or not, but the integrated mic was missing in Device Manager before I found out that the camera was not working.  I updated the audio driver and the mic started working again. Is there anything else that I can do to fix the camera?  Thanks in advance!

Answer:ThinkPad E460 integrated camera is not working

Some AV Security software, such as Kapersky AV, will sometimes block the camera access, so check to see if yours has such a feature. Other thing to try is to completely remove the existing camera driver to see if it has become corrupted.   In windows, just uninstalling and reinstalling will not install a clean copy, unless you make sure to check the box during the uninstall to "Delete the driver software for this device".    If left unchecked, it will just reuse the existing driver, and if already the latest version, attempts to reinstall the same driver again will not always replace all files since they already exist. Also make sure to install all of the latest Chipset drivers, or better yet, run the Lenovo's ThinkVantage System Update (TVSU) and update all of the drivers to the latest version.      Sometimes it seems to find updates that fix issues that manually updating misses.. I would hold of on any BIOS updates except as a last resort, however, since they sometimes go bad, and when they do, they go really bad and can leave your system bricked.. ThinkVantage System Update (TVSU)https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht080136 Good Luck,

Hi all,

I have a lenovo thinkpad E460, whenever I am writing, the following green message appears at the bottom of the page "Enable NX PAD" and after a couple of words "Disable NX PAD". These messages appear even if I am writing in MS Word or in a Gmail email. And of course when the NX PAD get disabled my touch pad gets blocked. I have tried many things that I have been reading in these forums but any have worked. I even made a complete scan to the PC through "Lenovo Solution Center" everything appears to be Ok but the problem continues.

May be a configuration of letters that may enable or disable de touch pad, but donīt know how to set this up.

Attached a screenshot for both messages.

Thank you for your help.

Hello. Last week a got a brand new ThinkPad E460 factory sealed for work.

Hi Folks, For Christmas I purchased a UK ThinkPad E460 with Intel HD Graphics 520 and AMD Radeon R7 M360 2GB.  The laptop has an i7 with 16GB RAM and is running 64 bit Windows 10 Home.  Everything is well but I have one question.  I have never had a PC/laptop with integrated Intel and 3rd party graphics cards.  How does the machine know when you use one card over the other? According to Piriform Speccy both the internal LCD and external monitor are being driven by Intel HD Graphics. Is this something that just "happens" i.e. does Windows automatically switch between Intel and AMD based on application? Many thanks Paddy

Answer:UK ThinkPad E460 with Intel HD Graphics 520 and AMD Radeon R7 M360 2GB

Hi Paddy,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As I understand that you have a query regarding Integrated & Dedicated Graphics in ThinkPad E460.
This laptop has an integrated graphics processor (IGP) because of the chipset it has use, but also has discrete graphics because integrated graphics lack desired performance.
The R7 series supports automatic graphics switching between the integrated GPU and discrete GPU. Called Enduro, the technology supersedes AMD's Dynamic Switchable Graphics and is similar to Nvidia's Optimus.
"Switchable" means that the computer decides which to use at what time. This means that it can power down the discrete graphics when the display doesn't need them to save battery power, switch to discrete when a game begins, or use the IGP to display the desktop while the discrete graphics are performing non-graphics tasks.

I hope the above information helps.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Regards,
Prabhansh

Then my tech guy got all defensive basically screaming that "no this deinfiyly DOESNT have a gpu amd card!"
he also stated "there is not such thing as a pc with an Intel Cpu and an amd gpu"  "its one or the other"
WHich i know if wrong, ive fixed plenty.

Batteries are warrantied for one year, so run (don't walk) to your nearest Lenovo support center.  Or call Lenovo. You can look up your exact warranty status on Lenovo's website.

Which store or place do you recommend for buying? And I know, that batteries capacity may go down because of time (laptop sales have begun in 2011). Should I buy new 9-cell battery? Or just forget about it and continuing using my old 6-cell?Thank you for replies!

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad E420. 9-Cell Battery.

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Capacity of a battery declines as the battery ages, with the number of charge cycles and time at high temperature. Under average usage patterns your battery maintains approximately 70% of its power capacity after the first year of operation.

If you feel that the battery backup is too low, try doing a battery firmware upgrade and BIOS update. Check the Lenovo support site for any battery firmware updates for your particular model.

Refer this knowledgebase which explains some tips to improve battery backup.

Still if you feel like getting a battery replacement, I would suggest you to contact Lenovo technical support. I'm sure they would be of great help.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

I have a Lenovo X230, running Kubuntu 14.04. When I disconnect the slice battery at the bottom the system resets, it's very annoying. What's worse is that it seems like jostling the system, also can cause it to power cycle. I don't really have a need to remove the slice battery very often, but essentially if I put the laptop into standby, and put it in by laptop knapsack, the system is off after I get where I'm going. Thoughts? I saw somewhere that allegedly, when you unlock the battery, some thinkpad utility gets notified to switch the power, I wonder if the hotplug is a software only solution, and not doable in standby. Steve Ramage

Lenovo Issues Battery Recall for ThinkPad Laptops

Lenovo has issued a recall for several of its ThinkPad models because of various battery issues. You can download a tool from the Lenovo website to find out if the ThinkPad you own is one of the affected laptops.

A limited number of ThinkPad users have reported the following symptoms: Irreparable damage or battery cannot be charged error message from Power Manager or Message Center, or Low battery capacity, as indicated by short battery run time or sudden drops in the battery fuel gauge.

I recently purchased a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14 (20FY). The problem I've been having is when the battery reaches about 25%-30%, it suddenly drops to 6% and I'm alerted to charge the battery. Any idea what this is happening and how I can fix this?

ALPS ThinkPad UltraNav Driver for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) v8.216.1616.1. (28.10.2016) r00tp07w.exe.Driver installs well under Windows 7 32bit, but fails to install in Win7 64 bit. Both are clean installs. Seems something is wrong with the driver. It does not find Alps device in 64 bit while it finds it with no problems in 32 bit Win 7. Also, the Intel Management Engine 11.0 Firmware for Windows 10 (64-bit), 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) v11.0.0.1205 (4.5.2016) - ThinkPad E460 r00mu01w refuses to install. It seems to print out some lines in red colour in command line but closes the window too quicly to read them, and fails to install. It also did not have any problems installing on Win 7 32 bit version. Without the Alps mouse driver, notebook is useless.

Answer:e460 refuses to install Alps ThinkPad UltraNav driver on Win7 64bit

So, nobody can even comment if this driver works in their Win 7 64 bit installs on e460 nor can I reach Technical support here?

As your battery FRU number is mentioned in the firmware update list, so you battery model is not effected with this issue.

You can perform the calibration process to increase the battery backup and also update the BIOS.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Twist s230u 3317U battery issues...

Hey there shiv309,

There is an excellent thread by CT809, that led to a solution for this very problem.

Re-installed Lenovo Settings Dependency Package and the Power Management Driver, then when I rebooted and went into Lenovo Settings, this option popped up. Ensure that its placed to "fully charge".

Hopefully this solves the issue for other users going forward.

I hope this gets your Battery issue solved shiv309, and I look forward to hearing back from you on your progress!

Good afternoon all,

I have been in the process of making my laptop, a Lenovo Thinkpad T410, a much better device to use. While I've been having HDD issues, my main issue right now is the battery that I had purchased. With the IBM Power Manager software, the battery is listed as a Sanyo 42T4710. It is a 9 cell battery and I will provide any other information you need.

When I had first purchased the device, after charging for awhile the battery icon on the laptop would begin to flash amber. It will not charge to 100%, and usually stops at 96%. With the battery manager, the charge threshold is set to "Always Full Charge (Start when below 96% and end at 100%). I tried to run the battery gauge reset option, however the laptop permanently stayed at 96% and never discharged lower than that.

Are there any recommendations that you can make for what I should do with the battery?

Thanks!

I received my Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2gen (i7, OLED). Unfortunately the CPU usage is constantly around 30% (reaching up to 100%), the fan is on all the time and the battery is empty in 2 hours. The main reasons for the high CPU usage are the following three programmes:- Sophos web intelligence (which I have to have installed according to my employer)- WMI provider host (I tried deinstalling it, but then I can no longer access the network drives)- Synaptics TouchPad 64-bit EnhancementsAny ideas what I could do to solve the issue? Thanks!

Hi everyone, I have an issue with the display connectivity on my Lenovo E460: When I connect my Lenovo via HDMI with an external screen it works perfectly well. This means that I have an output on my integrated display, as well as on my external screen. But when I disconnect the HDMI screen, the integrated display turns black. But while it's black it's also flickering. That means that now and then I can see the desktop for a few milliseconds, and then it turns black again. The flickering happens primary when I move the mouse. The remaining time it's just a black screen. I also had the behaviour when Windows 7 was installed. But the problem solved itself after a while when Windows 7 suggested a Desktop Window Manager update in the Windows Update section. But now I upgraded to Windows 10 and the problem returned. I installed all driver I could find on the Lenovo homepage. I also made sure it's the latest version. When this didn't help I installed the official drivers on the Intel homepage. I did the same for the AMD drivers, because there is also an AMD graphic card on board. In addition I experimented a little bit with AMD beta drivers, but the effect remained the same. Technical specifications:- Intel Core i7-6500U (Intel HD 520)- AMD R7 M360- Windows 10 Pro N (1703) with Media Feature Pack installed I would be grateful for any tips and solution you can offer! Best regardshgt432

Answer:Lenovo E460 Screen Black/Flickering

Hello Hgt432Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)1. Turn the unit off2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter5. Turn the unit on as normal
Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

Hi there, I am after few laptops and Thinkpad W530 tops my list - beating Elitebooks and Precisions in the process. I am after the top spec and a Quad-Core is a must (virtualisation + some heavy development). What makes me worried though is the reported CPU throttling issue of W530 that occurs while laptop runs on battery power (unplugged from AC) only - all the way down to seriously low 1.2Ghz! Happens when the discreet NVIDIA card is on. I can understand physics behind it as there might be not enough output wattage left to drive K1000 (35Watts) or K2000 (45Watts) but those kepler GPUs are still a far cry from 100Watts GTX680 present in some (though some 17inch) laptops with very little throttling happening. New quad core retina Macbook pro with its 45W GT 650M graphics card exhibits no serious throttling issue whatsoever while on battery - proof it can be done. Only as an example though, retina Macbook is no good for me. I wouldn?t mind bit of it say to 2-2.2Ghz still keeping the GPU and full power and active but to throttle the CPU down to some entry level ULV 1.2Ghz I find quite outrageous - as reason to consider laptop in the first place (dashing Elitebooks for instance) is portability and ability to work on the go purely on the battery power (whether battery lasts for 2 hours or for 5 hours would not matter much, hibernate swap the batteries all of this with SSD is less than a minute). 1.) Is there a way around this? Forcing 3rd party BIOS and... Read more

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad W530 CPU throttling issue while on battery power - few questions or any solution?

It depends on the configuration of the cells in the battery pack. Those laptops generally have more cells (like a 12-cell pack), likely wired to allow for such loads at the cost of battery life. AFAIK, the 9-cell will also throttle.Supposedly, you can use ThrottleStop to counter the throttling, but do so at your own risk and all that jazz. Nevertheless, if you plan to impart such a drain on the battery pack often, expect to replace it within one or two years.
