Battery Firmware update - failed and now will not recognize a good battery

Question: Battery Firmware update - failed and now will not recognize a good battery

I have an E420 Thinkpad; NO problems ever with the laptop...a great machine. I ran some updates and the Lenovo update wanted to update the battery firmware; there have never been any problems with my battery (I have an extended battery), but wanted to update as recommended. - When I ran the update, I got a "the tool was unable to update the battery firmware due to an internal error"...and then it automatically rebooted. - Once it rebooted, I now get a DOS warning (on initial boot) "this system does not support batteries that are not genuine Lenovo....." and I have to hit escape to continue.- When it boots up, I get a battery icon that shows either "plugged in and charging" with a RED X imbedded in the icon.- The laptop does not recognize the battery. Even though it was in good condition and had a 95% charge when I first ran the firmware update....the laptop will not operate without hte power plug attached.- When I go to the power manager and the battery tab, I get a "battery was completely discharged and needs to be recharged verbiage- I have tried to re-run the firmware update from the update tool, but to no success. - I have tried to run the firmware update by downloading the install .exe file and running from my desktop....to no success.- I have tried to do a system restore, but it did not work.- I have screen shots of the screens mentioned as needed. Help! I now have a small desktop that has a closeable lid. It will not run if the power plug is disconnected. Thank you!!! Casey

Preferred Solution: Battery Firmware update - failed and now will not recognize a good battery

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I tried to install a battery  update on my Lenovo T520.  The update fails with an "internal error" message being reported.  The battery does not fully charge and now lasts only a few minutes once the charger is unplugged.  The battery is a Lenovo replacement less then a year old.

Hi i have theEdge11 K3252545-A12 modelwith Battery 57wh model no : 42T4897 The Battery Monitor showing only 47.5wh overall capacity. This seems to be the same problem like the edge13 series. For these devices there is a battery firmware update but not for my battery.Again i know that batterys are getting worse after cycles but this seems to be bug because:1) the battery is 2 weeks old2) the battery shows in the energy manager as 47wh battery and not 57 battery. So the battery manager says "good" and no battery wastage.  Does Lenovo provide the upgrade also for my device and battery? see the links: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-75738 http://www.lenovoblogs.com/connections/2010/08/update-bios-and-battery-firmware-to-ensure-full-charg...

Answer:Solved: Edge 11 AMD K325 - Battery Problem need Battery Firmware update?

Hello mate, You don't have a problem with your battery. My T510 indicates the same with a 57wh. Under average usage patterns your ThinkPad battery maintains approximately 70% of its power capacity for the first year of operation. Average usage is defined as the number of recharge cycles. A cycle is defined as each time the battery discharges a total of 85% or more and is recharged it counts as one cycle.

Seems like internal battery memory was corrupted due to flashing interruption.
I assumed the root cause is internal software error.

I've tried the same on Windows 7/8/XP with all LnvBFU revisions (from v1.2 till v1.15) without any success.

But LnvBFU.exe still recognizes the battery, it still able to start flashing.
And I still have hope to install battery software correctly.

Dear Lenovo experts:
1. Please provide steps to correct this error.
2. Please advise how can I get logs of LnvBFU to figure out what's wrong.
3. Please fix this issue in the next LnvBFU revision.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Battery Firmware Update has killed Brand New E420 battery

Hi, I have a comparable problem over here. Got a brand new Lenovo Yoga 260 three weeks ago, worked completely fine until last wednesday. Processed some lenovo updates including Lenovo Solution Centre and Power Management and now my battery is dead. Everytime i turn on my Yoga 260 i get a battery error message after a few minutes that says the battery is not charging and it should be replaced due to a bad condition. When i open up Lenovo Settings and search for energymanagement it displays the same message telling me the battery is defect due to normal wear and it should be replaced. My problem is that the battery worked completely fine until the moment i installed some Lenovo software updates. I hope lenovo support can provide steps to correct this error instead of forcing me to return it and wait 2 -3 weeks. Thanks in advance.

I have a ThinkPad Edge 520, which I purchased with the higher capacity battery (42T4710). Recently when attempting to update the battery firmware, using the LenovoBatteryFirmwareUpdate  v1.13 it detects new firmware for the battery: Identifies the firmware: But then fails: Upon restarting the computer I get informed that the battery is invalid and will not be charged by the laptop. I have tried numerous combinations of updates (BIOS, power management driver, etc.), without any effect. Prior to this attempted update the battery worked fine. Appreciate any assistance.

Hey.. so I just bought a surface 2.. like new but the battery has a red x and will not charge. I've tried cleaning contacts, uninstalled battery in device manager and most other things. I feel like if I could get the system firmware update it may solve the problem and I can force the windows updates by uninstalling the battery.. when it reboots to install the firmware it show the surface logo and the "please wait while updating" it almost instantly reboots and goes back into windows. Any ideas here? Also is the battery difficult to replace? $16 on Ebay and I may give it a shot.

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Here it is the support site link for your model just in case.

I'm guessing that the computer is booting but the battery does not provide any charge, right?

I did not have that issue, but I'm just guessing, What will happen if you apply the battery firmware update again? You can download it manually from the support site: "Lenovo Battery Firmware Update Utility for Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8.1 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8 (32-..."

This is what it cames to my mind right now, I hope it helps.

Hey, I own a Thinkpad E220 (5380-CTO) and the "Lenovo Thinkpad Toolbox" gives me daily alerts that I have a "critical battery issue". The link leads me to a page to download and update the battery firmware. "Battery Firmware Updates for Main and Slice (external) batteries - ThinkPad Edge E220s, Edge E420s, X1" http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=HT062049&AID=10429688&PID=3719336&CJURL=http%3A%2F... I've gone through all the steps to update the firmware numberous times, including doing the battery recalibration and I STILL get the daily "critical battery error message". Please help, the daily scans eat up RAM and it's annoying that I have to cancel it daily. The battery, from what I can tell, works otherwise. Thanks!

I do have exactly the same problem: keep getting the "critical battery issue" alert every sinle day! This started happenning a few days a ago after I have updated the ThinkVantage Toolbox system; and it is already driving me crazy... Does anyone from Lenovo ever read these community blogs??? Hi, I suddenly encountered a battery problem in my laptop, IdeaPad Y510P. It seems like other folks have the same problem in Ideapad series.   When I plug in a charger, the laptop shows that battery is charing but, it never goes above 7% (w/ max battery life mode). According to Energy Management, battery status is fine.  After searching similar issues, I think it may be a problem with firmware, but I was not able to find a firmware update for IdeaPad series, Windows 8.1.... I have been using my laptop over a year, but never had this problem before. Can you please guide me through how to fix this issue?  Thanks for your help..!

After that reboot and install it back and see if there is a difference specially on the battery status. Also basing on your statement that the unit is with you for more than a year and you have not encountered any problem except recently it would seem that a battery replacement might be in order. Again before jumping into conclusion check the ac adapter and battery based on the procedure given in your hardware maintenance manual.

Answer:Ideapad Z-500 - Battery firmware updated but still battery not charging

hi Aledef,

If you have the Lenovo Energy Management installed, can you check the following:

1. For Windows 7:
Ensure that Maximum Battery Life is selected

For Windows 8:
Ensure that Conservation Mode is disabled.

2. Uninstall the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method under the Device Manager > Battery
   - Link to picture

When finished, reboot the machine and observe if the battery is now charing above 59%. If the problem remains, try charging the battery while the computer (about 30mins) and see if it goes pass the 59% mark.

If the problem persists, I recommend you contact lenovo on how to go about getting a replacement battery.

Hi, I recently factory reset my E520 to have it working like new again. That all went fine, but then when downloading and installing the various Lenovo updates I found the battery firmware update. It was in the middle of installing when the laptop powered off (I think because another update "X64 patch update" had finished installing and so wanted to restart the laptop). Now when I turn my laptop on it says "Lenovo doens't recognies third party batteries etc etc" and it won't even charge or work off the battery - Laptop only works of AC now. What can I do? Thanks

I bought 2 batteries original Lenovo 4.4Ah for the tablet on ebay. The battery was sell as new. When I try to charge it just blink ornage and no charge. The seller refuse to take back the battery telling the price was low take as it is. He said all other batteries he sell where ok however this was the last one they sell and they where few years old. Then I did open the battery case and mesure the voltage all batteries was zero. I decide to charge evey single cell wit USB charger and a resistor. I was able to charge all the cell to 3.5-3.6V with a total voltage of 14V. However the pin of the battery show 0V. After reading on web I find out that the firmware is in Ram and consume some power. The for such long period of time drain the battery to 0V, very good design.... to sell battery. With no more power since it is ram the firmware is gone.In any case, I am afraid to buy new battery to get same problem since it is old computer. I have found that there is a lenovo utility for firmware utility but my computer is not in the list. Can I try or there is another solution. Only solution out of firmware update is buy a used working battery and replace with the one I have taking care to keep power during replacement (this is quite touchy). The Thinkvantage Toolbox is reporting that the battery is not holding charge (down to 32%).  It is less than a year old and has been configured for maximum battery life.  The warranty link brings up a firmware update that won't install successfully.  I've tried the full package, and doing one part at a time.  It always detects the battery, goes to the writing the firmware stage, goes directly to the second try writing n/1334 (I think that's the number) and then fails.  I've let it reboot and try again with the same result. The product is ThinkPad SL510, product id 28479YU, Bios version 6JET85WW(1.43). Any suggestions on how to proceed?  I've seen other posts that suggest that it may be a defective battery, but nothing on how to confirm that. Thanks, Andrew

Hello! I have an x250 notebook.Capacity of my internal battery flows down. Some time i opened lenovo power manager and checked battery. Internal battery is full charged with 12,18V, but external battery is full charged with 12.68V.It is very strange for me. As i know there is no li-ion battery with <4.2V full charge.I recalibrated the battery, no changes.Ok, It is possible that one li-ion battery has lower voltage then other two ones. I checked the voltage - 4.07. 4.07, 4.05 it is great result!Batteries are not charged fully, so capacity is lower then it should be. I found battery FW update for some lenovo notebooks, but i didn't find it for x250.Can you help me?

Answer:ThinkPad Edge 13 - Battery Firmware update not working

Hi and welcome to the forum!

You need to have latest BIOS version (which is 1.20 6ZET...) and Power Management driver.

See below text:

"Lenovo has bundled the necessary dependencies and the battery firmware update into a common package. Customers who prefer to download a single file may download the appropriate package for their type of system. These "dependency wrapper" programs have the following basic procedure:

Check the Power Management driver version. Update if necesesary.
Get the current BIOS and embedded controller version.* This requires another driver, the Lenovo System Interface driver. If this driver is not present, version 1.02 (81vu13ww) will be installed. This driver is part of the "Hotkey Features Integration" package, but only the System Interface driver is installed.
If necessary, update BIOS to the minimum version supporting battery firmware update. A system reboot is required if the BIOS is updated. The battery firmware update will automatically continue after rebooting.
Update the battery firmware. A system shutdown is required after the battery firmware update. The system will not automatically turn back on after being shut down.

Please click here for more detailed operation of the dependency wrapper programs."

Hope this helps.

Hi All, I foolishly ran the Lenovo software update tool and one of the updates that installed was battery firmware v1.13. The update failed part way through and ever since my battery is having an existential crisis - I know it's plugged in and 100% charged but it reads 0% (or sometimes a red X) and the machine shuts down when AC power is removed. Being out of warranty the phone line people just keep trying to sell me a new battery and have no ideas on how to fix the existing one. I've tried the firmware update multiple times but with no joy. Also tried sourcing previous versions of the firmware which doesn't work. My battery was not one of those listed for recall. Latest and best suggestion was that it may be a motherboard issue and I could confirm by plugging in a different battery to see if it works - with absolutely no suggestion who would let me borrow their battery and plug it into my possibly killer machine. Has anyone else had a similar problem and found a fix? Is anyone based in Perth, Western Australia and want to let me experiment with their battery? {you crazy fool!} Does anyone know how to contact an actual Lenovo person rather than the useless call centre (1800 041 267 from Australia, seemingly connecting to Malaysia or Thailand judging by the accents)? Consumer law in Australia would suggest these guys owe me a new battery regardless of warranty status but I don't know how I can force the issue if I can't even speak to them???&... Answer:Thinkpad Edge E420 Battery dead after firmware update 1.13

This happened to me today. The solution is to restart the computer and enter the BIOS.  Then use the arrow keys to move to the config tab, then down to the power option, hit enter, scroll down to the disable built-in battery, hit enter, then follow dirctions on the right.  You will unplug the power cord to shut down the computer and when you plug it back in and turn it back on the battery will be recognized.  if not , try the process again as it took me two tries.  hope this helps.

Hi, I have Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E330. few months ago I have got a few messages like "Battery Error" (I don't remember the exact text). From that time nothing changed with battery run time, if I remember well. However ,after some time the battery suddenly went from 5ish hours run time to one hour or less. I would guess the problem could be something like this https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht001086 but I haven't find any reliable tool from Lenovo to check the battery. Lenovo solution displays "Health: Fair" in the battery status tab. I have also tried to update battery firmware (http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds001322), but it didn't help. My Notebook is still in warranty. Is there any solution for this problem, or should I try reclamation? ThanksJan

Dear all My battery pack (42T4506) has worked well for the last two years. Until last Thursday (13 May 2010), battery lifespan was degraded to 1.5h hours -- which was accetably to me. Last Friday (14 May 2010), when I was sitting in a train trying to restart my laptop, the battery symbol was blinking with message mentioned in the subject above -- and the battery refusing from being active (although 100% loaded). I wonder how such a sudden failure can occur -- IBM's thinkpad battery never failed like that... Would anyone mind me giving the full address of Lenovo support? Thanks Lukas

Answer:x61s: Battery SUDDENLY dies with blinking "The battery has failed due to normal wear".

battery warranty only lasts 1 year, so you would have to get a new battery.

My Compaq Presario c500 will not turn on when plugged int a/c power.  The indicator lights constantly blink or flicker,  If I unplug a/c and install a charged battery the indicator lights glow constant an the machine will boot on.  If I then plug in the a/c power, the machine will function properly as long as the battery has a charge.  The charge does not run down as fast when the a/c is plugged in as it does when operating on battery alone.  I have changed the hard drive, ram and power jack, checked for driver updates and current BIOS all to no avail.  Short of trashing the motherboard, is there anything else I can do to try to resolve this problem?  I have heard o several otters having the same problem wit their C500 and one person with the same or a similar problem with a Toshiba L305.

Answer:Compaq Presario c500 as, hhd, battery light blink constantly w/o good battery

Sounds like power supply is weak if it cant keep up with draw to keep laptop running. The boot with power supply attached and having problems sure sounds like a weak power supply. Do you have a meter available to measure the voltage under load to make sure its stabile and not pulsing or too low? Or a second power supply adapter to eliminate this?

Hello, first all the facts: Model: Pavilion TS 11Year bought: 2013product Number: E2V68EA#ABDBattery test result: primary battery failed - replace (42)Error code: 0GF2MR - 6MW8H9 - XD7WXF - C0A503 The problem: I have noticed the very first time the battery did not fully charge up to 100% app. 1 1/2 years ago. Then it always stayed at about 75%. I made several battery tests, yet everything seemed to be fine. Two days ago, I noticed the battery was down to 7% - not charging even though it should be. I run some battery tests again and the error stated above suddenly came up. The HP battery test via the support center sated everything was okay, yet as I googled the primary battery failed message, I kind of got alarmed.  There is no warranty left and the touchscreen had to be disabled a couple of months ago, because it was not working properly as well. I hope for advises - does it actually make sense to try to repair it? Can this problem be repaired - as far as I understand, the primary battery means changing the removable battery won't help at all? Best wishes,Kristina

Hi, my girlfriend in Beijing has an Acer Aspire S3 latop. She bought a new battery for it a while back and told me it was no good. I was in Beijing recently messing around with it and found that actually the battery is fine (lasts for >4 hours) but when unplugged and running on battery power, the laptop often just cuts out suddenly (loss of power). I took the battery out and had a look and cleaned all the connections but they seem fine.

The next part is the strange part and which I hope might give someone a clue as to what's going on...

When it cuts out, it will never restart again unless the mains power cable is plugged back into the laptop. As soon as that's done and the power button is pressed, it starts up again and the cable can be taken out immediately (I mean immediately - you can plug the cable in, push the "power on" button and pull the cable back out in less than a second) and it will start up and run fine on battery again... until the next time it suddenly cuts out without warning.

Because any unsaved data is lost and because the laptop cannot restart without the power adaptor, this very portable and light laptop is now reduced to having to be kept at home all the time and plugged in, which is exactly the opposite of what she bought it for.

Anybody have any idea what the problem could be or suggest some tests that could be done to find out? She took it to a local computer shop but the guys there had no idea.

Thanks in advance for any adv... Read more

My battery will not charge, at all.  The guage was obviously not correct as it would drop very quickly after reaching 20% so I updated the Power Manager to 6.07 and then performed a battery reset (I am pretty sure it was in this order, may have been the reset first). After the reset the battery charged back up to 100% but as it discharged, the charger did not come back on.  With the power in, the battery just sits at the same percentage and very slowly goes down (~1% in two days).   I tried playing with the battery maintenance settings, the meter then says that charging will begin below 80% but the battery is already on 20%.  I checked the firmware in Power Manager and with the standalone program but apparently no update is needed and the part number FRU 42T4755 is not listed as needing an update. Current firmware version: 0004-3f98-0160-0130 I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Power Manager.  The windows power manager  also seems to have the same problem. I only baught the laptop last year, it is one month out of warranty; I need it to be portable for work.I thought about buying a new battery but it seems to be the charging function that is not working, and the battery was working fine before the reset and update, apart from losing some capacity and the inaccurate meter. Product: 0578CTO    Thinkpad Edge 14 Bios: 80ET61WW (2.01) Any help would be greatly appreciated.Nathan19% an... Hi all! As written in the topic I have a huge problem with the run-on-battery-management of my X301-System + Windows 7 SP1. I replaced the optical drive with a secondary battery (ultrabay). Both batteries were identified by the system and charged to 100%.But when I run the system on battery, the system only uses the second battery. So if it runs down, the system turns into suspend/hibernate mode even if the primary battery is charged to 100%.Why doesn't the system switch automatically to the primary battery, when the second one is empty? As long as the second battery is down, the system also won't start/resume from the suspend/hibernate mode. Does anyone know this problem? Is there a known solution for that problem? Product informationLess than week old Lenovo T430S6cell LI Battery T81+Microsoft Windows 8 64bit Issue After working for multiple days, the battery decided to stop charging yesterday. Upon loading the desktop, I get this error message.  I Googled this issue and found that other people have had similar problems. Some of the solutions I tried (and did not work) are: Reinstalling Lenovo Power ManagerUninstalling  Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method BatteryRemoving the battery and putting it back in  As it stands, the battery menu says "Plugged in, not charging" and is stuck at 84%.  If anyone could give me other ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. I am assuming it's not a hardware issue as the battery is brand new and was working just fine a few days ago.

Answer:Brand New T430s: A battery error has occurred. The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery.

Not sure if there's any known quirks with that combination of hardware and software, but it sounds to me like the battery had a spontaneous failure, in which case you should just get it replaced under warranty.

Answer:Edge 13 Battery Firmware

Hi Mosheke,

Welcome to the community.

As per your concern battery is not charging,  If your battery has much lesser capacity or does not charge at certain level any longer, you may want to perform a gauge reset on the battery.

Double-click the green "Power Manager" battery icon near the Windows' system clock, usually at the lower-right corner of the screen. If you cannot find this icon, click "Start," "All Programs," "Access IBM" and "Power Manager."Click the "Battery Information" tab at the top.Click "Battery Maintenance."Click "Perform Reset," and then click "Continue" on the confirmation dialog box. This procedure will take more time to complete, and you should not use your ThinkPad during that time. You will be prompted when the battery reset is complete.

Note: make sure AC adapter plug in when performing gauge reset.

Afterwards, please check whether the issue get resolved.

Regards,
Sameer

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."

Shockingly none worked that I found.

Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.

A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.

To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)

Worked with an off brand battery also.

Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.

Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

My battery (FRU: 42t4957) is stuck at 2% and refuses to charge:I kept it at 40-50% most of the time by changing battery threshold. Total cycle count was about 80 (84 now) first use date 2013-03.On Saturday I tried to run a "discharge-charge-discharge-charge" cycle (by watching some movies) to reset the gauge of my battery. During 2nd discharge my laptop hibernated due to low charge much earlier than expected, when I turned it on it showed that the max capacity is 28 Wh and the battery is in the "poor" condition.I tried to perform automatic gauge reset but didn't get much (29 Wh). I updated power manager and performed another automatic reset which failed too.So I tried to make a manual reset and left my laptop paying a movie for a night. On Monday I plugged my AC adapter in but found out that the battery won't charge: "a battery error has occurred the battery cannot be charged".I cleared residual capacitance by pushing the power button several times and reset the BIOS to defaults but got nothing. If this problem can't be sold I would like to know the reason of it to avoid such things in the future. While googling this forum I met contradictory opinions on battery reset: ones say that it's extremely harmful because battery "doesn't like" to be discharged to 0%, others say its harmless.

Hi, I have a T430s with a defective battery -- its a known problem where the batteries "indicate an incorrect full charge capacity value".  The result is that the laptop shuts down when the battery isn't empty.  Currently, mine shuts down when the charge gets down to 30%. There is a firmware updater -- but it only works on Windows (e.g. there is not bootable CD you can use).  I have (only) Linux installed, so I can't use this.  After shuttling me around between different support services, they told me that they can't help because (a) the laptop is under warranty, but (b) the battery is no longer under warranty.  They also couldn't tell me which battery parts do not have this problem. I tried "hiren's boot cd", which has a "mini XP" that runs from memory.  I tried to run the firmware update tool from this XP, but it refuses to do anything :-(  Its unclear which version of windows will even run the firmware updater! Does anyone know of any way I could update the battery firmware? -BenRI

Answer:Fix battery firmware for T430s under Linux?

You can try using the Windows Preinstallation Environment; it helps me upgrading the management engine on both my T430s and my X201. Remember that upgrading the battery firmware requires not only the firmware updater but also the power management driver.

I've set the Battery 1 (Main battery) thresholds to 45%~90%, which works very well. Below 45%, start charging, battery level to 90%, stop charging. But I also set the Battery 2 (Keyboard battery) thresholds,(50%~95%) it doesn't work. It will always start charging when battery level below 96% and stop at full. The thresholds is not working. My Helix is running Windows 8.1 with all the newest drivers and necessory software supplied by Lenovo. Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

I have some T60 battery's here that cannot be charged. At the moment i have 5. One of those has just a cycle count of 51. The others have a cycle count of 113, 346, 481 and the last one sais "No battery installed". All those are between one and two years old. Is this normal for the T60 series that the battary dies that quick?  I've allready looked for the replacement program, but none of those battery's is in that range for replacement. I think the problem is that the laptop's where on stock for a month or 2 and they didn't removed the battery before placing it in stock. What can i do?

Answer:T60 - A battery error has occured. The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery.

Hi Roman78, Wlcome to the forum! If the batteries do not fall under the recall you will have to buy some new ones. Most T60 batteries last a long time but some do die early. It happened to me too.Make sure from now on that the batteries are removed before going into storage. Running batteries completely dead is hard on them and there is always a little draw when they are connected.

I have a T61, bought 10/07.  I got this message out of the blue after i unplugged my laptop and it shut itself off.  Only turns back on when plugged in.  The orange battery light is flashing despite it saying the battery is fully charged, i called lenovo and they said i need to purchace a new battery, since the 1 year warranty exprired just over one month ago (convenient for them).  I have searched and found that this is not a new problem with lenovo and that 2 sets of recalls on the t60 battery occured recently, but mine apparently does not quailfy for recall (already checked).   The battery info says its a sanyo battery with poor quality, 44 cycles, first used 10/07.I'm kind of peeved that i'm being told i need to buy a $115 battery just over a year after getting this computer, and believe lenovo should step up for clearly something being wrong with their system as i'm in good company of others with this problem. anyone have any ideas?  do i really need to purchase a new battery??thanks for any help

However, when i try installing the upgrade, it shows me that there's no such battery which needs an upgrade. What do I do? Also, I tried the battery calibration in OKO. Nothing happened for 12 hours. Answer:[W520] How I know Battery Firmware version and downgrade

If you attach the AC adapter when the battery is at 49%, then it will not charge because it is not below 46%. This is the intended behavior. If the system is charging and discharging between 46% and 50% while plugged in, then this causes extra wear to the battery.

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Z400 that was bought in 1st-2nd week of May, 2013. I have a problem that started on May 21, 2013, my laptop battery suddenly drops from 25% to 6%. I've read some posts that it requires firmware update to work normally.. This is the site

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS035310

Is there any steps needed while performing this Upgrade? Is it safe? Will it fix my problem?  By the way, I'm here in Philippines and the Ideapad Z400 was bought by my uncle somewhere in Saudi Arabia, and he delivered it to me when he got back here. I started using the laptop on May 8, 2013. Thanks..

Hi all,

i'm useing a Toshiba *Tecra M4* model *PTM40E-01L01RGR* Bios version *3.5.*
From one day to another the battery is absolutely dead - this means battery time drops from about 2 hours to zero in one day.
Now the battery can not be chanrged any more - it looks as if there is none installed.
So no boot without power cord and if you unplug the cord the notebook is powered off immediately.

From my experience if battery uptime becomes slowly shorter and shorter the battery is old or fails. But if it has no function from one day to another i would say this is a typical firmware or bios problem.

Is there any firmware or bios update available for the Tecra M4 (support page sais no - latest is 3.5 as installed ) or is there a fix or workaround i can use to get the battery back to live ?

Thanks for help !

Michael

Answer:Tecra M4 - Battery dead - Is it a BIOS or firmware issue?

Hello

On the Toshiba website you can check if a BIOS is available or not:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/ => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

But I doubt that the problem is related by the BIOS. In my opinion it?s a battery or mainboard issue. If you go to an authorized service provider the technicians can check your notebook.

And I don?t know what firmware you want to update. Firmware update is only possible on HDD?s and CD/DVD drives.

I have a Thinkpad T43 with a 6 cell battery and it is holding less and less charge so I ordered a 9 cell replacement battery. When I plug in the 9 cell battery the system does not recognize its presence. Is the new battery defective or is this a function of power management which requires a driver upgrade?

Answer:T43 does not recognize new battery

Welcome to the forum! If everything functions normally with the old battery, the new one is defective. No update of any kind is needed.Good luck.

I have a 1TB Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003-9YN162 like the one shown on this firmware update page:

Barracuda (1TB/disk platform) Firmware Update

Because i've been having problems waking from sleep mode I wanted to update the firmware on it from my version now CC9B to its current version of CC9D. I downloaded its windows update utility and ran it. Everything seemed ok, it shut down windows, restarted, ran the updater, then it said "FAILED" in big red letters then asked me to go back to Windows. I did, everything was ok nothing got messed up.

Why did it fail to update the firmware? Was it because I didn't have CC9C and it didn't want to skip from CC9B to CC9D? Do I need to update to CC9C first? What should I do?

The update utility says that it cant be run on "RAID Systems". My system is capable of RAID but I dont have a raid setup i use ACHI. Do I need to go into my BIOS and disable something that has to do with RAID? As far as I know I have nothing enabled that has to do with RAID. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Seagate HDD Firmware update failed. Why?

I suspect that if your drive is not listed here: ALL FIRMWARE UPDATES - see here - Seagate Community Forums
Which I don't see, a firmware update is not needed nor compatible with the update.

Second line from the bottom says something about the AC not plugin. Updating the bios needs to have a steady supply of power thus you should plug the unit to ac. Then try again.

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of the problem you are having.  Are you sure you got a BIOS Update from Windows Update?  If you did, that is a scary thought.  Windows 10 is good for giving you OS and driver updates whether you want them or not. Giving a BIOS Update is kind of over stepping their bounds IMHO.

Have you tried this.....
1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 3. Plug in and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If that didn't correct the problem, can you access the BIOS Setup by repeatedly tapping the F1 key when you first power up the computer.  If you can access the BIOS Setup then your problem is most likely an operating system problem with a driver update Microsoft gave you.

I tried to update my battery firmware after getting a message from the thinkpad tools today. the firmware installed halfway then completed with an error, it then asked me to click "ok" to shut down the laptop. now my battery gauge is showing 0%, the battery charging logo in the task bar has an "x" on it. The battery is not charging as well. i have to plug in the AC adapter to use the laptop. I tried to reinstall the firmware, however it says there is no connected batteries that need upgrading. In the battery management tool, it also shows battery condition as "unknown"  help!!!

Answer:Lenovo E420s battery indicator at 0% and not charging after firmware upgrade

I think the firmware flash went bad. You'll probably have to use your warranty.

Hello,
A week or two ago, I started seeing a pop-up appear on my Inspiron screen (I run Windows 8). The pop-up said that the AC adapter was not recognized, and therefore, the battery would not charge. It was the same 65W adapter that came with the laptop. I hit F2 at startup to check the BIOS, and it said the adapter wasn't recognized. I decided to order a new adapter. While I waited for it to arrive, the battery gradually drained down, but the laptop continued to work while plugged in.
The new adapter came today, an official Dell adapter. I plugged it in... Same error message. Adapter not recognized.
I ran a check on the battery; the system says the battery is fine. I pulled the battery, and the laptop still worked via the adapter. I jiggled and checked all the connections. Couldn't find an issue and couldn't make it work.
I checked the BIOS version and date, and it's from 2013. Time for an update! I downloaded the latest version, but here's the problem: It won't install without the battery sitting at at least a 10% charge. The battery, of course, won't charge with either adapter (it's reading at 1% now). So I can't update the BIOS without some battery life, but I can't make it recognize the adapter and charge the battery without the updated BIOS (assuming that's even the problem, but I'm hopeful that's all it is).
If anyone has any suggestions for how I might make this work, I would very much appreciate it! Thank you!!!

Answer:Catch-22: No BIOS updated without battery, no battery life without BIOS update...

Please list Dell model number and version of windows. Ex: Dell Inspiron 3543, windows 10
If you don't know, type msinfo32 onto the search box, and then look for System model.....
In the meantime, please check the USB port, where the AC adapter is plugged into system, is loose. You could also wiggle the Adapter's end while checking it in the BIOS to see if the Adapter's type appears.

I try to run the diagnostic tool (pressing F2 at boot time) but it can't detected. The battery is well installed and conected to motherboard. I think the problem is the bios but i don't know how to go back the previous version.

Hello so I am experiencing a battery issue with my lenovo y40. The problem is that the battery is fully charged but the laptop does not recognize the charge level. I can confirm that the battery is not dead because I checked the power level with a voltage meter by removing it from the laptops case. Trouleshooting already attempted:Uninstalling Energy ManagerUninstalling Microsoft APCI power optionsRemoving battery and running off battery Uninstalling the Energy Manager did not do anything.Uninstalling the Microsoft APCI power options allows for the laptop to work off battery but the CPU is locked to 0.77 ghz throughout all operation. Removing battery and running off battery proved to cure the problem when installing the battery back in later but when I tried it again in the moring after turning off the computer it went back to the same issue.  If anyone has found a solution to this problem please drop a note , and if not just send some troubleshooting advice. -Merrickul

A few months ago my laptop started showing a window that said my battery wasn't recognized. After this if my laptop wasn't plugged in it would shut off in about 20 minutes. Over time it would shut off right after this window popped up no matter how much charge was in the battery. Eventually my battery just stopped charging and I can only use my laptop when its plugged into an outlet.

Can someone let me know if this can be fixed by just getting a new battery or if its a different kind of issue?

Also my laptop is a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 15 and I have Windows.

My notebook is one of the first to come out of the assembly line and came with firmware 1.02.There's 1.08 BIOS that came out, so I tried to update it from Windows 7.  It took a long time, but it completed and the tool said to reboot.  That's all it said as far as I remember. Upon reboot, it started to give beep code.  I don't remember which it was, but it was something like 1-long 2-short or 2-long 2-short.  It kept at it for a while and I got tired of it, so I pressed and held the power button to kill it and then restarted it. This time, it got into BIOS, which said it was updating USB Type-C Controller Firmware from v12 to v13.  This FAILED and gave me the option to "reboot and try again."  I picked that, but it never retried. I didn't feel comfortable with this, so I flashed 1.08 BIOS again, this time from within the BIOS using a USB-stick (\Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\New\N73_0108.bin).  It went through much quicker than in Windows and at the end, it actually warned me that the machine may beep for a while after reboot.  Umm, thanks for the warning, now that it's too late.  Why didn't Windows update program give me the same helpful warning? Anyway, the machine rebooted, but it did nothing to try to update USB Type-C Controller Firmware.  I'm guessing it set a flag somewhere saying we're already at 1.08 so there's nothing new to do. When BIOS configuration is dumped using BiosConfigUtility.exe, it shows US... Hello Everyone! So here's the situation. I updated my m6-1045dx to Windows 8 Fresh Install. Among those that I applied was sp58572.exe found here which I will refer to as "patch". However, for some reason, the updater quit and now, my touchpad DOES NOT WORK. I think it's a firmware issue in the sense that I've already reinstalled Windows 8 TWICE and yet it still does not work. I think what needs to be done is to update the driver correctly and then use the patch to correct the firmware. The problem is that I tried restarting, shutting down multiple times, reinstalling the driver (both the one provided by HP for my model and the one on the synaptics website) to no avail.Everytime, I try to run the patch, I only get the error message "A synaptics pointing device driver is required for reflasing. Please install a synaptics driver version 15.1.6.0 or newer".The problem is that it doesn't work EVEN if I install a newer device driver. Any help you can give will be much appreciated. Thank you.

Dear Lenovo, After perusing the recent 2016/2017 comments by multiple users on similar posts about Ideapad Z510 battery from across locations/countries - it appears that the firmware that you had issued last year - has somehow got overwritten / superceded maybe in either late 2016  or early 2017 by some more recent/latest updates. I am writing from India and facing the same probem that the battery is showing 100% and then going off almost immediately. This probem had fortunately got solved last year when you had issued a firmware update - but now when i am trying to use the same files again - it basically conveys that "no battery available to update" because that particular firmware is already applied on our laptop. Hence, can you please release newer firmware update for this same issue -  using a z510 system having current till-date updates for different OS - win 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10 - same way as you have released for thinkpad series of laptops too on the weblink - http://support.lenovo.com/in/en/downloads/ds001322 Come to think of it - that if a fully working battery is being "prompted" as weak and "need to buy" - but actually is a fully functioning hardware - isnt it a bit of a letdown for your users??? - what to say of  some who might have already bought and replaced with newer replacement batteries - which is actually a completely avoidable cost? I am sure you need to resolve this issue soon so as to restore c... Read more

My laptop all of a sudden today (after about half year of use) refuses to recognize my charger while my battery is plugged in. Here are the exact symptoms:
1. While battery is plugged in and charger connected, the battery will not charge. If I remove the power cable and plug it back in, it will charge for about 10 seconds before this reoccurs. The battery icon on the lower right of the screen shows as if the power cable is not plugged in. HOWEVER, the hardware cable icon light on the lower right side of my laptop is lit, indicating a connected cable
2. While battery is plugged in and charger connected, if I remove the battery, the computer will shut down(as if the charger is not connected)

I am certain that the charger works perfectly fine, I can run the computer without a battery just fine. I'm not entirely sure if this is a hardware or software issue.

I did not make any system change today or yesterday, nor allow any change that was popped up(the only pop up in the last two day was a jucheck.exe which I clicked no to). This just started happening a hour or so ago for no reason at all for as far as I know, I only noticed because the battery was looking low, thought the cable was insecure but checked it and it was fine. Then I messed around a bit with the cable and battery and found the above

My computer is a Toshiba satellite P755 S5320
My operating system is Windows 7 home premium version 6.1 build 7601 service pack 1
