I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: E531 SSD error 2101

Hello, the problem was in faulty SSD drive. Seller told me that he probably got some bad series of this SSD because almost 60% of sold was not working, so I returned it and picked up Transcend MTS400 256GB which works like a charm.

running 1.40 biosthink I have WWAN model as there is a SIM slot and there are a red and blue wires ready for the 3G wireless card.all lenovo drivers etc checked to latest versionsInstalled 128GB Kingspan which failed to do anything and caused the whole system to be unbootable. Turns out the ssd was dead as it did not work in working usb enclosure.swapped in 64GB msata minipci from my old eee901 it is the correct size for the lenovo slot - it wasn't for the 901 and I am now getting 2101 Detection Error on hdd2 on boot up.I have tried reseating the card, cleaning the pins, reseating, booting to Hirens, Slacko, Gparted, Fedora and not been able to see it as the error code is pre OS... Anything I can do? - roll back drivers, roll back bios, buy specific brand msata any suggestions welcome :-)

Answer:Error 2101 Detection error on HDD2 (mini sata) X220

HiIt seems newer drive is needed or its firmware. Chek out SSD manufacturer site for fw update.Since x220 BIOS 1.16 or something like this one, msata SSD error detection has disappeared. Except of rare cases with some Crucial (or Corsair, didn't remember) and Samsung drives. Also do not use OCZ drives.

Model: T450sEquiped as:Intel i54+4GB RAM256GB SSD (M.2) Configured as boot disk running Win 7 x64500GB HDD as additional storage Issue:Seemingly at random, approx once every one to two weeks while PC is on and at the desktop but not actively being used (meaning no user is sitting in front of it performing tasks) it will error and crash.  The error is a black screen with the following error: 2101: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2) Press Esc to continue. According to the user Esc does nothing and the only escape is to long press the physical power button until a power down occurs.  On reboot the system comes up without issue.  No user has actually seen the crash take place.   MY QUESTION(S):1st.  Is this most likely an issue with the T450s not being able to reliably boot from the m.2 slot or is this more likely an issue with the SSD installed in the m.2 slot?2nd.  Is this something altogether different?  Any (knowledgeable) advice or info appreciated.

Answer:T450s Thinkpad - ERROR 2101: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2)

It is hard to diagnose without seeing it, but my experience has been that the Gen4 and later CPUs (like yours) support a very low power state that is incompatible with some devices. (that would make it a problem with the card) Make sure you have the latest BIOS and power manager software installed. Look in the device manager and find the M.2 SSD. There should be a power management tab. Turn off the option to allow the system shut the device off to save energy.

Yeah I am getting the exact same error 2101. Also X220 but 4286-CTO which I brought from US. The BIOS version is 1.17(highest I can find now).Wonder if it is a compatibillity problem or simply the bios is not programmed rightly.

I get the following message when I turn on the laptop: 2101: Detection error on SSD (M.2) The laptop (T560) is new and was only received on the 13 May 2016.  When it occurs I run thediagnostics and can usually get the machine to boot up. However, the error then reoccurs at a later stage, usually if the machine has been idle for a while.  I have lodged a service call with Lenovo but thought I would share my experience here and see if anyone else has the same issue?

Question: x260 Error 2101

I have a X260 with a Samsung 850 EVO SSD installed connected to the normal SATA cable. Recently, the system ran down in hibernate or sleep mode until the battery was completely drained. The next time I started it up, Iwas presented with an immediate error after the logo of "2101 Detection error on SSD(M.2)". Booting into BIOSor UEFI diagnostics doesn't show any options for diagnosing the SSD. What is odd is there is no M.2 SSD. ?Right nowI am traveling and don't have a SATA-USB cable or another drive to try, but is there any possibility this is something other than my SSD failing completely? System does not boot. Things I have tried already: Reseating the SATA cable, Resetting BIO S to default settings, "Power Cycling" the SSD. All checks in UEFI diagnostics pass.

Hi all. I have a 1 month old t450s bought directly from lenovo. Standard HDD and ram, decided to go with the HD+ IPS monitor (very good) and opted out on the 16gb ssd. I've bought a crucial balistic 8gb stick and a Transcend MTS400 128gb ssd m.2. I've installed everything and it was all working well with the eventual 2101 error on boot after resuming from sleep. Since my OS is installed on the SSD I've disabled the sleep mode, because boot time is less than 5 seconds. Anyway, a week ago I've started experiencing random freezes doing regular tasks (browsing, documents...). Yesterday the computer was frozen, I've power cycled it and I was greeted with a 0xc0000225 blue screen (something on the lines of file system not found).I've tried everything, system repair, changing the UEFI settings, reseating the ssd, running the Lenovo bios diagnostics (all green). Nothing works. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi, I just received my T430 about 4 days ago and it's working perfectly until I was trying to install important windows updates. As I was rebooting my laptop after the installation (which fails everytime I don't know why), my computer gave me a loud beep and a error code of 2101 detection error. So I searched this forum and found this solution http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT074404 from another post that had the same problem as mine.As i was following the steps,( i did cmd, uninstalled express cache, and did disk managment) but as i went on my disk management i could not find my mSATA. I have a 16 gb mSATA and it was working perfectly fine before. I've noticed on my reboot that it took longer to load and the error message would then come up.So my problem is that I cannot view my mSATA disk on my disk managementThankyou!

Answer:2101 Detection Error: Cannot view my mSATA

The Error 2101: Detection error on HDDx miniSata is a BIOS error. This has nothing to do with the operating system you have installed or any drivers. During the POST, the system does not see the miniSata drive. I (like some others) received my new T530 recently, setup it all up and then a few hours later received this error. The solution is simple. You must open up your ThinkPad. Remove the two keyboard screws and remove the keyboard and RE-SEAT the miniSata drive. There is 1 screw holding the board down. Remove it, re-insert it in. Screw everything back up and voila, no more issue. Go to the Lenovo / ThinkPad Guides and Manuals page for your device (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides-and-manuals/default.page?) and download the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your ThinkPad. There are clear instructions (for those less inclined) on how to remove the keyboard. You do NOT need to disconnect the ribbon cable. Simple / carefully slide the keyboard forward and the miniSata drive will be visible and accessible. You can also use the ExpressCache program to get stats on the miniSata drive and see how it is working. Open a Command Prompt (in Administrator Mode) and issue the command: eccmd -info   -   Display ExpressCache activity informatio eccmd -?   -  Will show you all options eccmd -format   - Will reformat and clear the cache drive. Hopefully, this will help out those out there with this issue. Hi, I just updated BIOS ver. from 1.30 to 1.37. Had no problem with it. The system restarted and got the message that " 2101: Detection error on HDD2 (mini SATA)" This is a Crucial M4 256Gb SSD, which I'm using since 5 month. Changed it back to my old KINGSTON 64GB SSD , and it works. I've downloaded BIOS ver 1.3 , downgraded the system, but the problem still exists. It boots without any problem with the Kingston , but not with the Crucial. Currently I don't have another computer to test the Crucial SSD if it's broken, but I think it's rather BIOS related. Plese advise what to do now, because I had all my work on that SSD.  Regards,Gabor

So I've read through the history of the msata and the x220 (4286-CTO) and how the BIOS revisions were required during the middle of last year in order to get the Intel 310 and some others to work. Thinking that my little x220 with Bios revision 1.26 (i7, 8gb, 4286-CTO) would be fine, I purchased a Kingston SSDNow mS100 64GB mSATA Internal Solid State Drive SMS100S2/64G and installed it yesterday. The instal went without a hitch, but when I restarted the machine, I received a 2101: Drive detection error on hdd2 (mini sata) error.   I've seen that the 2101 error has been mentioned in relation to a couple of Sandisk msata drives on the forum, but those discussions didn't seem to go anywhere. I just got off my second call with Lenovo support (30 minutes today and 25 minutes last night), only to have them tell me that msata is not supported by my 4286-CTO.  That sounds incorrect, as others with the 4286-CTO seem to have luck with Intel and Renice. What am I doing wrong?  Is this something that another BIOS revision could cure?  At least on one of the sandisk discussions, the OP said that he/she had tested the drive in another computer without a problem, so I don't think it's a problem with the actual drives.   Somebody else mentioned that some drives are not compliant with the JEDEC standard, but that doesn't sound like an explanation to me either.  Thoughts?  Help! Best, sad x220

Answer:2101 Error: X220 with Kingston 64GB msata

I have the same issue with x220.  The mSATA I have is the Sandisk SDSA4DH-064G.  I can also add that the function of the mSATA is the same regardless of whether the mSATA is used in the mSATA slot or on an adapter card in the SATA hard drive bay (Error is 2100 rather than 2101, but the text is the same).  For this reason, I believe the Lenovo BIOS is unable to configure the mSATA drive appropriately.  I imagine that Lenovo could quickly resolve this with a new BIOS. I have tested this drive on a desktop consisting of a Asus P9X79 Deluxe + Intel 3960x running Windows 7, 64-bit.  Device is recognized by BIOS and WIndows Disk Manager.

Hi there, After about month of use I suddenly got an error: "2101: Drive detection error on hdd2 (mini sata)". Simply while browsing the internet system hung up and after reboot the error appeared.I've read that people here had same error just after mounting their SSD's - mine worked fine for few weeks. The problem appeared short time after auto-updating BIOS but not just after flash. 2 or 3 restarts gone smoothly.Strange is that now my BIOS version is still 1.16 when on the web since last Wednesday hangs ver. 1.17 - the update went on Saturday.Any ideas how to avoid sending anything (Laptop and SSD) to RMA? I have already RMA ticket from OCZ but want to save some time and don't want to lose the data.Besides I'm not sure if it isn't issue of the new BIOS from Lenovo. Thanks in advance for any help.Gootchio

You should try and reseat the drive the computer is not detecting.  This should reset the code and hopefully correct the problem.

I've read a lot about the 2101 Detection Error of mSATA issue on x220 with mSATA other than intel 310 installed. Last year I purchased a W520 and an Intel 310 mSATA. They worked fine together untill yesterday. I have windows 7 enterprice 64bit installed on the mSATA and linux installed on an SSD. I have a 500GB HDD installed in the ultrabay, as a shared data volume shared by Windows and Linux. Everytime I try to boot windows, it fails. And during the next reboot, the "2101 Detection Error" shows up. To try to solve this problem I have the mSATA reseated and the 2101 error disappears, until I try to boot windows again. Everything works fine IF I ONLY BOOT LINUX. 2101 Detection Error shows up everytime I TRY TO BOOT WINDOWS UP. I've updated the UEFI BIOS to the latest version which is 1.36 but the problem is still there. I've used the lenovo diagnosis tool (bootable usb) to run a set of quick tests and no error detected (except for drive self test either not supported or not passed). Please find the configuration of my laptop below:======================================W520-4270CTOCPU:                                 I7 2720 QMMEMORY:                        16GB (4GB SAMSUNG X 4)VIDEO:                   ... I ordered the mSata mini 128GB card to go into the half size slot under thge keyboard.  However when I boot I get:  "2101: Detection error on HDD2 (Mini SATA)".  I thought that a half size drive would work, as it does it my Lenovo W520.  However it appears the BIOS does not recognize it.  It does however recognize it in my W520. Has anyone else successfully added a second drive internally to the X1 Carbon Touch? http://www.mfactors.com/msata-mini-half-size-sataiii-ssd-128gb-64gb/

Hello and welcome,

No personal experience here, but I do see this note on the page you linked:

Note: Only works with systems with mSATA standard connector. NOT compatible with Mini PCIe slot for WWAN/wireless cards

The way I read the Hardware Maintenance Manual  that slot is WWAN only, not a WWAN/mSATA combo slot.  Could be wrong.

I got this error out of the blue the other day on startup, and now I get it every time I restart.  I have tried a number of solutions that I found in these forums (which I'll outline below) but it seems like my system just can't find the drive anymore.  Here's what I've done: 1. ran the ExpressCache program via Command Prompt (eccmd.exe -info) and got this error:  "**ERROR** ECCmd Request device is not available"2. unistalled the ExpressCache software, shut down, pulled the battery opened up the memory module slot cover, removed the mSATA drive and then re mounted it.3.  reinstalled ExpressCache4.  I'm trying to reformat the drive, but I am receiving similar errors     a.  When I try to format the drive (eccmd.exe -format) I get the following error:  HFS Volume is not mounted  **ERROR**  ECCmd Requested device is not available     b.  When I try to create a partition (eccmd.exe -partition) I get the following error:  0x10df (4319).  I looked this up and maybe there are system files missing? I have also tried this but it then says "There is NO mSATA detected, please check mSATA attached" http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT073737 If anyone has any advice, please let me know.

Answer:2101 detection on HDD2 (mini sata) error on my T430

Hello and welcome,

None of the symptoms you describe sound to me like software issues. There is something wrong with the mSATA SSD, or the controller that accesses it - or it needs to be re-inserted in its socket.

Is this machine under warranty?  I'd suggest calling support and running this by them.  They may suggest re-seating the device in its socket, or may offer replacement or some other option.  I don't speak for Lenovo, just offering my personal suggestion.

Hi.  I have a T430s (original owner). At boot-up, I receive a "2101: Detection error on HDD2 (mini sata)", BUT I don't use a Mini SATA!! Windows 10; All drivers current via Lenovo system update (incl. bios 2.69).I have a Crucial SSD drive; I have verified Crucial SSD has latest firmware.I do not have (and have not had) a Mini SATA card installed - this is why the error is so weird to me.I DID recently change the Wifi Switch and cable (which is when the error started showing)The wires that would feed the Mini SSD are still covered with tape from the factory (I forget the colors)I have removed the battery, internal battery and power (and rebooted).  I have reseated the SSD and the DVD drive (and rebooted).I do not have Express software installed; the software that would control the Mini SATA drive (I can't see any "express" software in Add / Remove programs) Can you help me with this annoying mystery?

I'm sorry to hear that you are getting an error message stating ?0251: System CMOS Checksum bad - Default configuration used, Real Time clock Error - Check Date and Time settings? while trying to boot your Lenovo ThinkPad E531.

Basically, this error shows up when your CMOS battery runs out of power. Probably, you will have to get your CMOS battery replaced to resolve the issue. Once you replace the backup battery, run BIOS Setup Utility to reset the time and date.

After a windows update, the laptop started giving me this error. I attempted the quick fixes, such as going into diagnostic, the HDD isn't present there either. I've reseated the HDD, nothing is working. I believe this could be a chipset/IRST mismatch issue, I just need to know what to get and a suggestion on how to get it installed.  Ok yes it's an old laptop but I need to get it going even if only long enough to back up my data. I am desperate please any solution is a godsend at this point.

Answer:T-430 2101 Detection Every Time I Restart

Hi, mboon

I tried to do some research on your error, but Microsoft has little listed for a code 2101 error. Could you possibly reboot your machine at some point and copy down the error message in its entirety? With more information, we might be able to figure out a fix.

Best,
Adam

I tried very hard to find an official answer. I had my x220 bios updated to 1.40 version and installed the mSata 500GB EVO SSD drive to the laptop. It has never been detected successfully.  It was a big hard to insert the mSata drive to the slot and finally it was in the write position I'm pretty sure and the screw is aligned... Any idea?

Hello,

I have only tried a couple mSATA SSDs in my ThinkPad X220, but each one was detected immediately without any error.

Do you know if the 500GB Samsung 850 EVO mSATA SSD worked before you used it?  Perhaps you could try it in another machine, or with an mSATA to 2.5" adapter, just to verify that it works correctly?  Although it is pretty rare to occur, you could have gotten one that is just not working.

Hello,As the title says I have a strange problem ? I get error 0190 (Critical low-battery error) where at the same time my battery is full on my brand new ThinkPad Edge E531. Of course I already searched for threads with similar issue and I found this one: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X1-0190-critical-low-battery-error-but-battery... . It appears that my case is quite identical with the one of user ?gilsont?. I have noticed that whenever I leave my laptop shut down for a longer period of time with almost full battery, it displays error 0190 on next start up followed by a beep sound and shut down. You may ask ?Why are you asking us? You already have the problem ? the battery?. Well the problem is not that simple. I already returned the laptop (on 3rd day after I got it) to the store where I bought it and respectively they sent it to their tech service. After few days I was informed that they couldn?t find anything wrong with it or its battery. I instructed them how they may reproduce the error but again without any result ? still nothing. Now I am in a bit confusing situation, I can?t prove that there is something faulty with this machine. I am not aware of the circumstances needed to trigger this error. My question is ? could it be a single case, maybe the battery wasn?t fully activated at that time or something like dirt on the battery connector interfered? I really don?t know what to do.Note: I encountered the problem 2 times... Read more

(i have updated the title. sounds more like it. ^_^) Greetings ! I am a proud (well, yes ...) owner of the E530 A3G-Model sporting a 16GB SSD.Yes, the one with the pulsy, noisy fan. ^_^  The Story: Last week i thought i'd need a change and try something new. As i'm not really a noob oncomputers, i thought i'd set up Win7 x64 SP1 on the SSD. That's ... not that easy, considering the size, so i've spent the weekend removing irrelevant components ...... like Natural Language, Speech Support, Language Packs ...... from the Win7 x64 SP1 Installation Disks. It took me two days to get it to work, with several testing sessions using VirtualBox,but then i got it right. I haven't removed any drivers, services or anything actually essentialwhich could break the system. (I promise!) So ... after a long session in VirtualBox and installing this system on a small partition on my HDDto verify it REALLY works, i went going on to install it on the SSD. Please note that RapidBoot is turned off in the BIOS and i have removed ExpressCache, which i had previously installed manually, but wasn't actually caching anything anymore, for reasons i don't understand. Maybe i have turned it off weeks ago, i don't know. So, i have set up a 3GB FAT32 partition at the beginning of the SSD for the pagefile. It's a habit. It's a good idea to do this on HDDs, so i kept doing it. Longevity of the SSD was no issue for me,as if it breaks ... well, then it breaks ... but the... Read more

Question: E531 not charging.

Hello, I just received a brand new E531 6885 27G and was happy to see that it worked flawlessly, except It will not charge. The battery seems perfectly fine, the system diagnose also said it was in good condition. So it must be something with the charger. I've tried three power outlets, but none have worked.I've removed and reinserted the battery, but no progress. Please help, I cannot use my laptop since it's at 35%~ battery now. Some more info: I'm from Sweden, and I'm using an AC adapter, and the connector to the laptop looks like an usb connector. I don't think I've got grounded power outlets.

Answer:E531 not charging.

It doesn't seem to be any software malfunction, albeit I cannot be certain. The AC adapter do not get hot whatsoever when connected. The battery icon on windows do not register any "connection" of a charger, it only says "18% battery left" when plugged in. as far as I can tell it must be the charger's malfunction or some system within the laptop that recieves the charger? Thanks for the help, /confused customer. edit: I've got windows 8, so I do not have access to the Power Management software

Last year i purchased an E531, i7 2.2, 8GB, along with a ADATA Pro SP900 128GB SSD, which i installed immediately, replacing the original 24GB that came with the E531. Windows 8.1 was installed on the SSD, while the built in 1GB hard was used for file storage and everything worked fine until today. My computer began to freeze up slowly, after 30 or so seconds it completely froze, even audio was doing the same loop. I couldn't get it into standby mode or reset, had to manually shut down by holding the power button. After trying to power it up again, i got the "Error 2101: Connection error HDD1 (mini Sata)", or something along those lines, and that was it, it no longer loads the system. I installed Windows anew on the 1GB hard, after booting the SSD remains undetected, but i am offered two Windows 8.1 boot options on System boot select menu, making me think the SSD is not completely dead. If i try to select the 8.1 installed on the SSD it restarts and i get the same error again. Can this be fixed, or the SSD is just gone? Thanks!

Hello. So I got a Lenovo thinkpad E531 with 4GB of ram but it shows only 3,58 as usable. I've searched the internet for a solution and I found these ones: 1. Click to clear the Maximum memory check box, and then click OK.It was already cleared, so I wanted to see what happens if i check the box. The result? Even less memory available. So this didn't work for me. 2. Update the system Bios.I used the Lenovo - Update and Drivers app to update my bios. Still nothing after this operation. 3. Enable the memory remapping feature.Umm..I wasn't able to find anything related about this in my bios (Lenovo HEET36WW 1.17). It doesn't have this feature? Is there any other way to do a memory remap except using the bios? Any other things to try? Thanks in advance.

Hello, I have an E531 which only displays 2.35 GB or Ram in XP. I know that XP being an x86 system only sees a max of 4 GB of Ram. However my old B580 which I had before would show 3.35 GB of Ram in XP.I think it has to do with the integrated HD4000 and the Nvidia GT740 because somehow it substracts 1GB of ram and I'm left with 2.35 GB instead of 3.35. In my opinion this automatic switching between display adapters is a bunch of crap because it creates nothing but problems. There should be an option in the Bios to disable it or switch between them. I mean why would I need an integrated video memory of 1 Gb when I already have a dedicated 2 GB card? One of the main reason I bought this laptop was XP drivers ( i need XP because of some programs i use at work that can only be used in XP).It turns out that there aren't any XP drivers for the NVidia card so Im stuck with the integrated card in XP. Anybody know how I can maybe get XP to recognize more than 2.35 Gb of ram? I was thinking about reducing the size of the integrated memory card but there is no option in Bios Thx Micky

Hello,  I have a Lenovo E531 and I plan to upgrade my 1TB HDD to a SSD (SSD Kingston V300 2.5", 240GB, SATA 3). I was looking in the Maintenance Manual (http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/e531_hmm_en_0c10929.pdf) and quote: "Self-service CRUs: These CRUs unplug or are held by no more than two screws. Examples of these typesof CRUs include the ac power adapter, power cord, battery, and hard disk drive or solid-state drive"I guess this means I can make the upgrade the hdd without voiding the warranty.  Lenovo's partner in my coutry said that I have to ship the laptop to them (they are not present in my town) and pay a fee for changing the HDD or I will lose the warranty. My question is: is it legal that they put me ship the laptop (there are also transport fees and a few days without laptop) and make me pay a fee for replacing a part that the manual sais it's CRU?  Regards,Mihai

Hello I've been using my E531 (i5-3230m,6GB RAM, 1TB HDD, FHD, GT740M, Windows 10) for 2 years but I'm having a problem with wifi connection at home for past 2-3 days. Laptop keeps disconnecting and connecting again every 5-10 seconds and the connection is not working at all, after couple of minutes it's unable to find any wifi network. Other devices connected to the same router have no problem at all. I tried reinstalling Broadcom drivers many times, even about 3 different versions, reinstalling many other drivers, even flashing BIOS to the latest one.  But really strange is, that today it was working well for maybe 2 hours, but when I connected my external monitor (Asus VX239) through HDMI port, wifi started to disconnect again. I have no idea whether it is somehow related to that, because these problems have started when I brought this monitor home (I've been using it for approx. 6 months in college).

Answer:E531 - Wifi disconnecting

Have you tried resetting your router?    I find that a router reset solves many of these intermittent issues, even though other devices appear to connect just fine. Also try disabling Power Management for the WiFi adapter from within its properties in Device Manager, it could be some power saving problem that is powering off the adapter.    Some USB 3.0 hubs/devices can interfere with the 2.4Ghz frequency used by Bluetooth WiFi, so if your WiFi is using the 2.4Ghz band, and you have added any new USB devices recently, try removing them to see if that makes a difference too.     If you find that is the case, see if you can switch your WiFi to 5Ghz. Good luck,

I'm trying to replace my HDD to a SSD. I run Windows 10 64 bits. From there, I'm a bit lost on what is going wrong and how to fix it. Any help appreciated.

Did you end up working out a fix for this one?I tried the same on an E460. I took the original HDD out of the laptop and cloned it to an SSD on my desktop. I've done this exact process numerous times without issue. When I put it back in, the computer just defaults the boot path selector. I try choosing the SSD and the screen just flashes up again. The SSD works fine and passes all the tests in the diagnostics. I also disabled secure boot and various other settings to no success. I'd like to avoid doing a clean install, so any help is good help. Thanks.

Question: E531 Battery life

Hi, I have recently (about 3 or 4 weeks before) bought an Lenovo Thinkpad Edge, e531 model 6885, in Romania, a brand new one. As advertised by lenovo, E531 shoulh have a battery life that is up to 6 hours. I wonder, Lenovo, how did you measured that? In what conditions? How can I reach that? Here, the add: Up to 6 Hours of Battery LifeNearly all-day computing unplugged lets you get a full day of work in on a single charge.http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/edge-series/e531#features  I'm using it with Genuine Windows 8 x64, drivers from lenovo official support website, power manager from windows 7 installed with compatibiliy (there is no app for power manager for windows 8, by lenovo, only the power driver is available for windows 8), and since i had the laptop I did only full charges (never remove the cord until 100) and test the battery life several times, but the most important test was the one made with: set on power save, with wifi off, screen at minimum bright (barely visible), and in idle (CPU below 3% of usage, frequency at about 1.1 GHz) and it could BARELY reach about 4 hours of battery life, while lenovo power manager software reports a power consume of about 13-15W. 4 hours in a "almost unusable state" doesn't seem to get near advertised 6 hours. I get that producers presents the best case, but that's not the best that's UTOPIA, it's unreacheable. I have the 11.1V 5.6Ah 62Wh  75+ battery, and as I kn... Unfortunately, all manufacturers exaggerate.  If they don't they'll lose sales to those that do.  Your tip-off should be the expression 'up to'.  The situation got so bad several years ago that a protocol was developed to provide a standard test. Search online for the conditions but you wouldn't enjoy your computer experience very much with slow cpu, dim display, always going into hibernation, hard disk spinning down frequently, etc.

Hi Everybody. I have Lenovo E531 (PF1GNY6 / 68852A3)? That notebook has matte screen HD 1366/768 Samsung LTN156AT32 / LJ96-05609G / LJ97-03438A, P/N: 0C54766, FRU: 04X110, Nr: 1410 5FEBC5117R 401 / 11S0C54766Z1ZSYU008301 403 / Y243085STDG5M2441. Is it possible to change that screen HD for matte screen Full HD (1920/1080)? What concrete screen Full HD fits for my notebook and work properly? What kind of cable will be necessary for that change?

Answer:F9-F12 hotkeys not working on E531

Manually downloading and installing "Integration of Hotkey functions for Win ..."from the Lenovo Support site did the trick for me and all keys are working again as desired. During the installation I had to click "yes" to a series of "the target file already exists and is newer than source, are you sure you want to replace" notifications.

Answer:E531 for Photo Editing?

I have the E530 which doesn't have as good specs as the E531 but I only use it for uploading and maybe a little cropping.  I think the big issue is getting good color management on a laptop. As you move around the ambient light is always changing and any difference in the viewing angles (vert or horz) makes it difficult to be consistent.

Hi, I have a E531, I7, 16GB RAM, SSD, HDD and FHD (on intel graphics). It works like a charm. But recently I noticed that 16GB DIMM's are available, also in the 204 SO-DIMM package. So I got to wonder, I also have a X61 that can handle 8GB even though the specs give 4GB as the max (I presumed, based on the fact that at the time, 4GB modules didn't exist, even though the chipset supports it). Now, back to the E531, the i7 doesn't have an issue with 32GB, which is what I would like (I run a couple of virtual machines, so more memory is always welcome). Would the E531 be able to handle 16GB sticks and give me the 32GB I'd like. Before I save up and try myself, I was wondering if someone else has been thinking along these lines? Chris

The e531 configurations shipping today do not match up to the specs reported in the media and on the product page at http://www.lenovo.com/products/us/laptop/thinkpad/thinkpad-edge/e531/. Can we expect the FHD displays, i7, and fingerprint reader options, as listed on the product page, in the very near future? Also, reports from CES indicated there would be options for multitouch displays and discrete nVidia graphics. Was that false info?

First of all, allow me to greet you all. My question is simple, 13 days ago I purchased a Lenovo E531. After some research, I'm still a bit uncertain, so here I go, the pixels on the left edge of the screen appear to be darker than on the rest of the screen. The issue is noticeable on all edges, but more on the left edge. I don't know if to consider this a defect or if it's something common to TFT-LCDs, but a bit of enlightenment sure would be welcome. specs, if needed. i7, nvidia 740m 2gb, 8gb ram, 1tb+24gb ssd. Thanks in advance!

Answer:E531 screen question

sounds like a partially defective screen, shouldn't happen. call support / rma it

Hi, I was wondering if you can get a E531 with 1366x768 resolution and swap it out for a full HD screen later? I have looked at the HW documents and it seems rather straightforward, hardware wise. But the screen providers seem to indicate you cannot swap out the displays, even though the connectors seem compatible. Can anyone point me to documentation that tells me yes or no in clear terms, or has done this and suceeded / failed? TIA Chris

Answer:E531 Full HD display

Yes it's possible. I have done it with no issues

Question: E531 display cable

Hi,

In first time, sorry for my bad english.

So, in my E531 notebook have normal WXGA display, but is very horribile. I bought another one, but with Full HD resolution.
The problem is, not working. This is the screen.  I think, the screen cable is not compatible. This is, the original screen cable.  As you can see, it does not have FRU number.

I see in the machine part list wich cable are in the machine, but no details of what each can. The two FRU number is 04X1126 and 04X4293.

Can anyone say, which cable compatible with this laptop and the Full HD Screens? Cost would be nice.

Thanks,
VStryker

Answer:E531 Processor Upgradable?

No, it has completely different socket. Becides it might be much more usefull to install an SSD if you don't have one, it should give you a lot more profit.

I've had periodic bouts with the Touchpad.Recently installed W-10Infact, on the 4th install of W-10 I reconfigured to dual boot: W-7 & W-10 on separate partitions.UltraNav for w-7 would not stick to classic mode and had to be reset everytime my computer woke up / restarted.UltraNav 18.0.7.40  HEGX11WW So I installed the W-10 driver over it. On the W-7 Partition.UNav utility 9.0.10.0 heg201ww  It works. It does not constantly revert to "Use Trackpad and Pointer". It stays Classic. When the mouse is clicked in the control panel theres no "Can't...(whatever) the Synaptic Driver"[ The W-10 partition has been well behaved on this issue [...only ;-)  ] Because touchpad is not consistant with the work I do on this machine, Classic mode is important. If you are having problems staying in "classic"...the above is worth a shot.-wbajr tbc

Hi,I very recently purchased the E531 and I've been extremely pleased using it for the past two weeks. However, recently the fan started making a lot of noise. I'll boot the computer and it's silent for a minute or so, and then it just spins up and gets loud. CPU can be as low as 5% and it's still noisy. The fan noise will then increase if I have a program/game running. This is very frustrating, and from what I've read there isn't a Power Management software for Win 8, correct? There is a driver, which I installed, but no management software. Let me know if I got this wrong.Does anyone have a similiar issue or advice? I'm going to call Lenovo on Monday and see if they have a solution for me. If not, I feel like this is a major dealbreaker. I already have some slight issues with wi-fi which I did fix with a PS script (occasionally I have to disable/enable the adapter to get wifi running normally. Annoying? Yes, but the fan noise is worse).

Answer:Thinkpad E531 fan noise

Guess: model changes, the notorious fan problem stays? http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/E530-pulsing-whiny-fan-no-low-load/td-p/797577

Hi all,I recently purchased a Thinkpad Edge E531 and I am having problem getting used to the new trackpad design. As the new generation trackpad is botton-less, when I press the lower left or upper left corner to register a left click, the entire rectangle surface of the trackpad will tilt. The problem is that --- the entire rectangle surface is also at the same time detecting and capturing the lateral movements of my finger tip. So inevitably the trackpad will detect some slight lateral shift whenever i press down any corners on the trackpad. This has led to the trackpad failing to detect my click (the movement detection supersedes the pressing motion).I want to ask if anyone is also experiencing this issue? or is it a design issue with the new gen trackpad? or is it that i am having a faulty unit?  Or will installing any driver will help?? I am very annoyed by this so I wonder if anyone is feeling the same. Thanks a lot for your helpRegards

Answer:E531 trackpad issue

We bought 5 E531 and we had the same issues with all of them. We sent them to be repair and the same problem persist on 4 of them and one will not even boot..... This is definitely a design flaw and not an issue with your unit.

Answer:Right Mouse Button - E531

Try PRESSING the lower right corner - so you push the TouchPad down. That works for me about 50% of the time. Tapping is not enough. The E531 TouchPad is a disaster area. Just horrible.

Is there a way to toggle the function key off so the F1 to F12 keys work as they would on a normal keyboard? I have found threads where you can change this in the bios on other machines, but there is no fix for this in the E531 bios. Lenovo, if you read these forums, this is a major design flaw.

Answer:Thinkpad E531 Function Key Fix?

Hi, it is a serious design flow. All our users are complaining about this totally obsolete function. However, if you read the manual, you can see that you must use the keycombination [Fn]+[Esc].The led on the [Fn]-key will light up, which means that you can use the function keys the normal way! I sincerely hope that Lenovo is reading this forum and that they stop shipping computers with the wrong setup. Function keys should be set according to the world standard: [F1]-[F12]

Hi Jleppart,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issues with not booting to Windows on your ThinkPad Edge E531.

The issue could be with Operating System or with HDD, suggest you to check with performing BIOS diagnose by pressing F10 key and run HDD and Memory diagnose to verify if the issue with hardware or with software.

Hardware Maintenance Manual

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Hello I've been using E531 for some months and I noticed one very strange behaviour. Although in Power Manager and also in Windows settings I have set stopping hard drive rotation to NEVER, hard drive keeps stopping and turning on after only some seconds again and again and again no matter what I'm doing on the computer. I wouldn't mind it, but is happening way too often, for example it stops and within 2-5 seconds it starts spinning again and this is happening many times during only 5 minutes and I believe this has a very negative impact on HDD lifespan. So is there any possible solution or is this considered as a normal behaviour ?  Using W7U 64bitI also updated to the latest firmware but nothing changedI also turned off Windows indexing Thanks for reply
