Memory upgrade Thinkpad Yoga 11e Windows 8.1

Question: Memory upgrade Thinkpad Yoga 11e Windows 8.1

The current configuration of my system (as bought) is 4Gb RAM. According to the specifictions, it is upgradable to 8Gb. I had a conversation with Sales Support via Chat trying to find the correct part number for 8Gb memory to replace the 4Gb. I was told that as my system is still under warranty, I would need to contact Technical Support for this to happen. Having done a number of searches on this forum, would I be right in suspecting that the existing 4Gb is soldered in to place - hence the need for a Warranty call to upgrade. I was advised that any attempt to make the change myself would void the warranty.Any thoughts please.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

http://thinkpads.com/support/hmm/hmm_pdf/tp_11e_yoga11e_hmm_en_sp40f29949.pdfThis seems to say there's one stick of socketed RAM.The bottom cover and the memory module are both marked as "optional-service CRU", so you won't really void warranty by replacing it yourself. The required RAM specification is this: PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600MHz SODIMM. Just find an 8GB stick with those specs.

I recently purchased a Yoga 11e 20d9 model and so far I'm loving it.  However, I wanted to upgrade the memory from 4gb to 8gb.  I purchased Crucial 8GB Single DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) as all the reviews I read said this was okay to use, however, everytime I install the memory and I try to charge the laptop at the same time it crashes.  I can run windows 10 perfectly without issue up until I try to charge it.  I can charge ther laptop when the laptop is off but for the life of me I can't get it to coexist.  I installed the original ram and everything works perfectly.   Even if I'm in bios, as soon as I plug in the charger the laptop will crash.  It literally has rips on the screen and everything fades out.  As soon as I unplug it, the laptop works flawlessly.   I returned the memory and got a replacement and it does the same exact thing.  I updated both the BIOS and battery firmware.  I am out of ideas.  Any help would be appreciated.

Try a different memory module again. It could be that this one is faulty too.If you still have issues, you could also try a different brand like G-Skill, Corsair, Samsung, ...Which is the manufacturer of the original SODIMM? Micron, Hynix or Samsung?

Hi,  I have a Thinkpad Yoga S1 which has served me well for a year or so.  Recently it has started to develop a problem where it "stalls" upon boot.  1. Laptop is powered off2. Press power button3. laptop keyboard lights up and fan begins spinning4. about 3 seconds later the entire system shuts down5. The process repeats Sometimes I can leave it in this cycle for 3+ minutes and it'll just keep cycling. If I close the screen it halts the cycle (shuts the computer down) and occassionally upon power up it'll cycle a couple of times and then boot into Windows. Here is a video of the symptom: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THCn6yFuprY   When it has booted into Windows, I have taken the liberty of running a Lenovo Solution Centre hardware scan. Processor, Memory and Motherboard all came back good. However, when I tried to update the BIOS, the system returned an "Error-116 Failed to read BIOS from ROM" Further, "Error 116" is listed as an IBM System board read/write error.  Unfortunately my warranty ran out a couple of months ago, so I'm looking at a self fix, and don't have any appetite to pay £800 for a new main board (besides, the one in my laptop was a new one installed by IBM under a warranty repair 4 months ago! It shouldn't be broken).  Can anyone suggest any fixes?

My Thinkpad Yoga 14 is now basically a standalone CPU, and not a laptop/tablet since my Windows 10 upgrade.  The speakers did not work -- that was easy to fix.  The keyboard on the laptop will not work, and the tablet will not rotate.  I have tried so many suggestions to fix it, but it is now rendered just a cpu with external keyboard, mouse and monitor.  This is very disappointing.  Any ideas on how to fix the keyboard and tablet rotation features?

Answer:No HDMI Audio after Windows 10 upgrade Thinkpad Yoga S1

Hi

Have you also tried to check con "Control Panel - Sound" ? On the "Playback" tab you can see all the "sound output" device, included the HDMI to see which one is working. You can also right click it and select "test". If the HDMI output sound does not show there, it may be a drivers issue.

I always try to keep the drivers updated against the Lenovo support site for my model. I try to update drivers on this order.
1) Use Windows Update
2) Use Lenovo System Update
3) Install Lenovo Companion and Lenovo Settings
4) Sometimes this tools miss to install some updated drivers, so I also try the Support site.

I hope this can give you some hints.

Answer:Thinkpad S1 Yoga screen rotation issues after windows 10 upgrade

Hi sumitgoyal3832
Welcome to the forums. Can you please post the full model number of you Thinkpad S1 Yoga?

I have a different Yoga Machine, but when I upgraded to Windows 10 it took me some work updating the drivers to stabilize it. Maybe you can try to updating the driver.

I try that in this order:
1) Windows Update - Check for any update there
2) Use Lenovo System Update to see if it find any BIOS or Driver update
3) Install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows Store.
4) Sometimes some newer drivers does not show on System Update or on Lenovo Companion. Check also the "Lenovo Support Site" with you full model number and check for any driver... you can sort driver by date.

But maybe your computer is a older one and does not have Windows 10 drivers on the Lenovo Site.
In that case I also use "DriverEasy" but that is un-support from Lenovo and AS IS under your own risk. But in my case that tool helped me out a lot to find newer drivers on my machine.
I hope this tips can you some help.

Hi Im considering buying a TY260, with the number20FES0DT00 Is it possible to upgrade the RAM to 16gb (as it currently has 4gb) and the ssd? I remember seeing somewhere that there was an issue with RAM soldered to the unit, is this true? Many thanks

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 260 - upgrade

The SSD can be upgraded.  I have a ThinkPad Yoga 260 that I upgraded to 16GB, but there are complications.  I believe that there was difficulty with interference from WWAN antennas and RAM modules, so the models that come with the antenna wires have soldered RAM.  It looks to me like that model doesn't have WWAN so I would guess it has socketed RAM, but I have no way to be sure without looking inside.

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga RAM upgrade?

Good day and welcome to the community.

As with many Ultrabook machines, the RAM is soldered to the system board, so there's no way to upgrade it short of swapping in different board. You may want to have a look at your hardware manual for reference: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/s1_yoga_hmm_en_sp40a26742_01.pdf

Hi, I just bought TPY 14 20DM009GUS . I have two questions to bother you. First, does this computer support digitizer pen? Second question is about the SSD upgrade. After I replace the HDD with SDD, can I still use the m2 16GB SSD as cache (though "ExpressCache")? I read some online tutorials and they always uninstall ExpressCache and remove the m2 SSD. Why not still keep using the m2 SSD as cache after the SSD upgrade? Thank you!

and also here:

It looks like the 20DM009 has "Active Pen", but I can not find the 009G++ specifcally.

I hope this gives your a hint, about the SDD, I don't have experience on that area.

Hello all,For quite a while now, I've been looking to upgrade my SSD in my X1 Yoga.  As you may know, the X1 Yoga was available with either a SATA-based SSD or a PCIe-based SSD (NVMe).  Unfortunately, information about compatibility isn't easy to come by.  In fact, I never found a concrete answer to the question I have been asking all along:  Can an X1 Yoga (i5-6200U model) ordered with a SATA-based SSD be upgraded to an NVMe drive?  I found a lot of 'No' answers online, but with no proof of that actually being the case.  The only cases I found of people upgrading their SSDs were folks with the i7 system boards.  A few people have mentioned that Lenovo's official answer (when they asked) about the matter is that when you order it with a SATA SSD, you cannot upgrade to an NVMe drive.   I didn't want to believe that they'd have a different part number for an i5-6200U board w/ 8 GB RAM for an SATA-based system versus an NVMe system.  The slot physically accepts an M-keyed NVMe drive, despite the SSD in there being a B+M keyed drive.  The BIOS also has a boot option for an NVMe drive.   So, I took the plunge (and risk) and bought an NVMe drive, and am very pleased to report that it works just fine!  There was no drama.  The only thing I had to do was to change the boot option to boot from the NVMe disk instead of the built-in SATA one.   I can't speak for the newer models, but mine (20FQ, i5... I have a ThinkPad Yoga with a dead mainboard. My ThinkPad is the i5-4200U / 4GB model, and the mainboard says 'LA-A341P' on it. I've found a replacement mainboard online, with part number 03X5234. However, I have also found what appears to be the next model up from my board - an i7-4600U / 8GB model, part number 04X5478. Will the better model work in my laptop? Or should I play it safe and just buy the weaker one?

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga S1 Mainboard Upgrade

Depends what you want... I actually want an i5 in my laptop because the i7 is overkill. In my case I also have a desktop PC with an i7 for doing video processing... So, I would prefer a less powerful chip to carry around with better battery life, less fan noise, etc. Rather than replace your system board with an i7, why not get yourself a whole new i7 gaming laptop for $200 from China if that is what you need?  If you have a read of the hardware maintenance manual there appears to be no difference between any of the system boards with regards to installation, so really it is your choice as to what tradeoff between portability and power you want to make. Usually the i7 boards are a bit more expensive... https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/s1_yoga_hmm_en_sp40a26742_01.pdf

Dear all, I would like to upgrade the touchscreen on the Thinkpad Yoga 260 - I have the 1366x768 model (a long and annoying story!) and I really want the 1080 screen - for obvious reasons. I am relatively technically competent (I'm a tinkerer) and have carried out these sorts of procedures on other laptops in the past. Which brings me to my question... Having upgraded the screen on a T450 and run into the problem of the display driver not accepting the new screen (some issue relating to EDIDs, or something like that) (https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/3t3z1d/lenovo_t450_lcd_replacement_cant_change_brightness... Am I going to encounter the same problem with the Yoga 260? Or potentially worse given that there are touch-screen issues involved too? Looking around at replacement panel assemblies they instruct not to use if the present resolution is wrong (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12-5-FHD-LCD-LED-Touch-Screen-Assembly-for-Lenovo-ThinkPad-Yoga-260-1920X1...) - it is just these particular panels, or am I screwed? Any success stories would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tim

I just ordered a 2015 ThinkPad Yoga 12 configured with 16GB M2 SSD and 512GB HDD. I was wondering if anyone here has already done drive upgrades on this system. Apparently the M2 SSD is 42mm, and the 2.5" HDD is 7mm tall.  I'm considering upgrading to a 256GB M2 main drive + 512GB SDD data drive, which could be done for $330 total at the moment ($110 for 256GB 42mm M2, $20 for an M.2 to USB adapter, and $200 for a 512GB 7mm SSD).  My main question: does anyone know what is on each drive in this config? Is the OS entirely on the M2, and is the HDD just blank? Or is e.g. the recovery partition on the HDD? So info that might help others:- see this video for the location of the 42mm SSD- see this detailed description on how to upgrade a single HDD TP Yoga to an SSD + HDD system- see this post for info and pictures on how to clone a HDD to an SSD using Easus Todo Backup - If the OS is on the M.2 I could get an extermal enclosure like this one to clone directly from M.2 to M.2.

hello, I hope this is the right place to ask some Q about the IBM thinkpad G40 .. My son bought a second hand G40 some years back. It had/has only 256M memory. Now I want to upgrade the memory and I scanned the relevant web pages of Lenovo. Apparently the memory should be PC2100 or maybe PC2700 becasue of PC2100 availability ? (DDR)Now a cpu-z run on that laptop says the memory is PC2300 (142Mhz) so what gives ? Has this been put in to be on the safe side or ?and an additional Q .. can memory modules be mixed ? ie can I add a 512M PC2100 sodimm to get 768M ? or do I need to remove the original 256M and go for 2x 512M ?TIAImbsysop

Welcome to the forum! Your machine can run PC2100/2700 memory, and you can combine it, it will always run at PC2100 speed regardless of anything else. It can be mixed, no questions asked. If the G40 is Celeron powered, it will take up to 1Gb (2x512Mb) of RAM. If it's Pentium 4-powered, you can install up to 2Gb of RAM. Hope this helps.

I have joined up because I have a cherished ThinkPad 770, type 95491A0, which I think deserves a new lease of life.  It has 64MB memory, 32MB built in and 32MB on a card.  The spec. permits a maximum of 256MB, which I should like to use.  There are no posts on upgrading the 770, but after looking at others it seems that the process may not be so simple as I thought.Specifically, is it OK to put 2 x 128MB SDRAM SODIMMs in the supplementary slots, thereby exceeding 256MB?  Does this cause problems, or is the extra memory simply not read?Another post referred to disabling the on-board memory, which would at least bring me back down to 256MB.  Is there a reference to how to do this?Lastly, I suppose I could use 1 x 128MB and 1 x 64MB for 224MB?I know it is simpler just to buy a new machine, but throwing away a machine that works (nearly) perfectly well hurts.  I guess that the denizens of this forum will feel the same way!Any advice would be much appreciated.   Thank you.

Answer:Memory upgrade for ThinkPad 770

Welcome to the Lenovo Community!

I don't have any 770 systems but reading some threads at forum.thinkpads.com, seems to say that at least 288MB is possible.  I would assume, given the age of the system, that you would need to use "low density" SDRAM memory modules.  You can identify those by the following rules:

if there are 8 individual memory chips on a 128MB module, then it's low density
if there are 4 individual memory chips on a 128MB module, then it's high density

According to the Hardware Maintenance Manual (HMM), the 770 uses a socket for the base memory that's on the motherboard.  However, you essentially have to strip the entire system down in order to get to it.

When you say nothing happens, did your laptop make any beeping noises when you tried to start it? These beeps can tell you what the problem is.  Is this the exact memory specified for your laptop? Are you sure the memory is seated well into the slots?

Hi. My laptop was running on 2G RAM. I bought a second hand 4G RAM. I really don't know why but my laptop doesn't work anymore. So I put back its original 2G RAM, and now my laptop doesn't work in either RAM. But when I tested it on other laptops both RAM works. I had no choice but to buy a new RAM and it is now working perfectly. What  was the issue on that? Please help. Thank you.

Answer:Thinkpad G40 memory upgrade

It is never a good idea to use "second hand" memory - even if it works in a different computer it may cause isseus like you experienced.  I expect that the notebook memory did not exactly match your existing memory and thus would not let the notebook boot properly.

Cheers.

Answer:memory upgrade on ThinkPad X30

You need the PC133 ram, also you should make sure you are getting from a reputable company. Your ram could be faulty, install one at a time, and test the new ram with PC Doctor 5 to make sure it is not faulty.

Anybody know why?

I wouldn't gamble on a successful ending. Wait to replace it after your exams. Upgrade your warranty if necessary to make it last longer. Because it will be an expensive upgrade.

According to the spec, you have 8GB soldered + one RAM slot;

http://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/Lenovo%20Tablets%20_%20Convertibles/YOGA%20720%20(15_)/YOGA_...

16GB max / 2133MHz DDR4,8GB soldered to systemboard, one 260-pin SO-DIMM socket

I don't know if that slot can actually take a 16GB RAM module, but there's no way to get to 32GB based on that spec.

Howdy All! I just ordered a Thinkpad P70 with a XEON 1505-M processor. It comes with one 16gb ECC memory module. I want to add 3 more and when I checked Crucial.com's memory upgrade options, it only list 1x16GB NON-ECC memory modules! So two questions: 1) Can I mix the 1x16GB ECC memory module with 3 NON-ECC 1x16 modules? 2) How hard is it to install memory in the P70? My last couple of mobile workstations have been Dell M Precisions and adding memory was EASY (no need to remove the keyboard ,etc)! Thanks in advance! Aggie85

My last couple of mobile workstations have been Dell M Precisions and adding memory was EASY (no need to remove the keyboard ,etc)!About 1: It might be possible to mix ECC with non-ECC modules, but you would lose the error detection on all modules then. Since non-ECC modules are only slightly cheaper I would not recommend it. About 2: for the P50 it is a piece of cake to install memory, it should be no different on the P70.  As for memory: Lenovo currently uses Samsung modules. So if you want to go for the same 16GB ECC modules check for M474A2K43BB1-CPB. I do not know about Cruicial, but at least Transcend also got 16GB ECC modules (check for TS2GSH72V1B). I cannot say anything about the Transcend modules, but I installed two of the 16GB Samsung modules (besides the 8GB module that was already in) in my P50 had no problem so far (even checked with Memtest86+ for a whole night). Cubbi

ThinkPad T440 will support maximum up to 12Gb RAM, hence the system is not booting with 16Gb, I request you to check with one 8Gb RAM and one 4Gb RAM.

Please click here to know the complete specification of system.

Hope this helps.

Hello, I recently bought myself a used Thinkpad T61 that comes with Vista Ultimate 32-Bit, 2GB of RAM, and 2.0GHz C2D. I decided that I needed an extra stick of 2GB RAM to replace one of the OEM 1GB sticks so I bought a stick of Kingston ValueRam (Product number: KVR667D2S0/2GR) that matched the specs of the old RAM.  However, after I installed the new Kingston RAM, the BIOS and Vista only recognize 1.5 GB of RAM instead of 3GB.  Basically, only 512 MB of the Kingston RAM is being recognized (and I can confirm by using the Kingston RAM alone). I tried mixing which sticks are in which slot, but that does not solve the problem.  I also updated to BIOS to the latest version, 2.26. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Memory upgrade problem on Thinkpad T61

Try CPU-Z and see what the software says about the ram. if 512 mb of the 2 gig of ram comes up, it usually says that your ram modules have defective chips, probably nothing to do with your bios or ram slots....return the purchased ram module for a new one. The T61 are capable of 8 gigs of ram under 64 bit of OS.

Hello all! I have a question for the more advanced users or, why not, for someone from Lenovo. I am the proud and fresh owner of a Thinkpad Edge 14" model NVS3GRI (machine type 0199-3GG). For full specs, see [1]. Currently, it has 2GB of DDR3 RAM, rated 1066 MHz. I am planning a memory upgrade which, hopefully, will give my rig new wings. Here's what I have in mind: http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KHX1333C7S3K2_4G.pdf  The question is: will my Lenovo Edge successfully use this memory? That is, could the 1333MHz frequency of the memory(increased, compared to the standard 1066MHz) damage the notebook? Or will it run just fine? Thank you!  [1] http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/quickPath.do?quickPathEntry=01993GG

Answer:ThinkPad W510 RAM Memory Upgrade--

Yes the W510 with quad core CPU is 32 gigs compatible, i have it running in my Thinkpad W510. I use ram from Samsung, Hynix, Micron, Crucial. If you need to speed up your photoshop action, also consider installing a SSD for your scratch disk. Video rendering is a very cpu intensive process, so it could be that your quad core cpu is getting a bit old, and you need an update.

This information has been discussed and answered many, many times in these forums.  I don't mind helping, but please use the search function. Crucial RAM is a common upgrade that rarely causes problems.  Samsung is another common option, with equal or better results. The recovery discs are created by you after you get the machine.  Or, you can order discs.  No recovery media comes with the machine. -JohnV474

I really need 8gb of ram but to tell you the trouth more than that would be an exaggeration.

Answer:Memory upgrade on Thinkpad T540p

It won't hurt anything to try it.  It's rated the same as the base stick so it should work fine. RAM modules are most likely to blue screen over mis-matched speeds or voltages, not capacities.  But we don't know how finicky the memory controllers on these devices are about RAM. If you do have any issues, pull the 4GB stick and put the 8GB stick in slot 1.

Hey there ... I'm trying to upgrade the memory on a 2011 T410 Thinkpad. It curerntly has 1x4gb of PC3-10600 DDR3 1333 SODIMM ram on-board under the keyboard.  I purchased the following Mushkin 1x 4g module at Canada Computers and it doesn't work. With the module it won't boot.  http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=24_309&item_id=076746 In the picture on the Canada Computers website there's 8 chips on each side whereas the actual module only has 4 chips on each side. I understand with 4 chips it's higher density, vs lower density with 8 chips per. The memory on board the T400 has 8 chips per side. Should this make a difference and is the lower density still available anywhere.  Can anyone recommend some memory that would work in this model. It's a Lenova Thinkpad T410 #2516CTO Also ... should I buy a pair of the same modules and replace the current module or can I just add the new module.  Thanks.

I've seen posts that lenovo yoga can take both 204-pin DDR3 1333 and DDR3 1600, is there any different performance wise between these two? 2. For those who upgraded memory yourself by removing the keyboard, does your keyboard (especially the upper-right corner) stick up more? the upper-right corner of my keyboard already looks loose and from ive seen it's mostly just held down by tapes .. and does this void warranty?

Answer:Lenovo yoga 13 memory upgrade questions

I dont know about the pin type, but I upgraded and have never been 100% happy with my keyboard since. I tried for ages to get it to sit back right and I think its 99% in now, but the top row rattles quite a lot, which is annoying (working on it all day as a developer). I may take it off again and try to reseat it again soon...

Hello, I have an ideaPad yoga 11 (not 11s), 32GB version, but by default there are only 12,5 GB available on 23,8 (very poor). It is possibile to upgrade the mass memory? I've seen that it is an eMMC, is it easily detachable? And, if yes,  where can I buy it?

Hi This is my first post to the forum. Regrettably I must start with a problem. Following suggestions on this forum I decided to upgrade RAM in my X200 to 8 GB. I bought 2 4GB chips branded by G.Skill http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f3-1600c11d-8gsl I was very disappointed to find the memory doesn't work. The machine won't start (black screen) with several pipping sounds.I suppose they mean DIMM problem. When I replaced the original memory chips everything is normal. Is this at all impossible and I should go for another memory ?Could possibly BIOS upgrade help ? I'd be very grateful for any comments and suggestions. Cheers,Chris

Answer:Thinkpad X200 memory upgrade failure

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately X200's are very picky with DDR3-12800 (DDR3-1600) like the ones you bought.

I would advice to buy DDR3-10600 (DDR3-1333) or DDR3-8500 (DDR3-1066) RAM. I would also recommend you to avoid the "Value RAM" line from Kingston, the "Value Select" line from Corsair (other lines from those brands are ok) and any no-name brand from eBay and similar shops.

This morning I received my order for new memory for my laptop and after getting all excited... it didn't work   Old memory was: 1x HMT41GS6AFR8ANew memory is: 2x KVR16LSE11/8 I tried all combinations (new banks alone, 2gether with old, different slot, etc), it just never boots (no BIOS screen, nothing). I this topic: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Thinkpad-S540-RAM-Upgrade/td-p/1542834 I read:Your system will support DDR3 PC3-12800 & DDR3 PC3-14900 DDR3 (non-ECC), as your system was shipped with DDR3 PC3-12800, I suggest you to go for the same. You can check with 4GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600MHz SODIMM.

Can i upgrade RAM memory from 4gb 1066 speed to one single 8gb card? will it use 8gb or just 4gb? From the parts list of the Maintenance Manual - your computer will only accept 4gb modules.  If you only have one socket on the motherboard, you are limited to a single 4gb stick.  Usually the system has the option for two memory modules, so I would suggest contacting Lenovo support by phone to discuss this situation.

Cheers.

I just bought a ThinkPad X120e 2 weeks ago from TigerDirect which bundled it with Corsair CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9 8GB(2x 4gb) memory.it worked fine at first but after a few days i started getting Blue Screen memory dumbs,5 have occured and I can only assume its rejecting the upgrade,Does anyone know if theres anyway to fix the issue or is it just incompatible and that I should just go back to the factory RAM?

Answer:Isn't sure if ThinkPad X120e is rejecting memory upgrade

It could be one of the new modules is bad. try one by one, or mix with the factory ram.

Hi all, Just bought brand new Thinkpad P51 (20hh0014rt). All latest software updates installed. Now I'm trying to upgrade memory and installing Kingston HyperX HX424S14IBK2/32 kit of 2 x 16Gb in two the slots under the bottom cover - my notebook doesn't boot in this configuration (I press ON button, I can see power LED is on and hear the cooling system, but nothing happens...)When I remove this two memory modules - notebook bootup without problems. This modules are ok at 200% - I'm writing this right now at my Thinkpad P470 with both those modules installed. Is there any way of how I can use this memory with my P51? Thanks!

I know that the L520 allows a maximum memory of 8 GB. Do I have to use each slot to get maximun memory (4 + 4) or can I install a single 8 GB stick into a single slot and leave the other empty? If I can use the 8 + 0 method, does it make any difference as to which slot I install the stick? Additionally, does it make any difference in speed if I use the PC3-10600 memory or PC-12800 memory? i7 - 2620M processor

Answer:ThinkPad L520 RAM Memory Upgrade / Installation

I'm of the opinion a L520 will support 16GB, at least my T520 and both X220 I have do so. And they're the same generation as yours

Generally speaking it's better to have two sticks for dual channel, 2x 4GB should be better than 1x 8GB. Although the difference may not be so noticeable in normal daily usage.

My laptop model has mSATA slot and 2.5 inch SATA drive bay. I am not able to identify the SATA version for either in the manual. A hardware test, and the existing hard drive manuel both shows the current SATA version is 3.0 Gbps. It contradicts what the forum common response on that T520 has a SATA III support. Will some one points out a reference on official documentation. The manual says the laptop support 8 GB. My CPU is Intel Core i5-2450M, http://ark.intel.com/products/53452/Intel-Core-i5-2450M-Processor-3M-Cache-up-to-3_10-GHz shows my processor supports maximum 16 GB. How much maximum RAM capacity does this laptop supoort? The manual states "Use either a PC3-8500 or a PC3-10600 DDR3 synchronous DRAM unbuffered SO-DIMM supported by your computer" If I want to search for compatible memory and memory comparision, review what termsn shall I google for?

Answer:Thinkpad T520 4240-6BG memory, SSD upgrade

Welcome to the forum!

The mSata slot is SATA-II, while the 2.5 bay drive is SATA-III.

A total of 16GB (2x8GB) is supported. You can buy DDR3-8500 or DDR3-10600 modules, I had trouble with my T520 to recognize some DDR3-12800 RAM, but I recall reading that other users managed to get such RAM working.

I would generally recommend to stick to well known brand names and avoid no-name RAM from eBay and similar shops, I'd also say to avoid the "Value RAM" line from Kingston and the "Value Select" line from Corsair.

I don't have a specific link with the specs though...

No,  It won't work and the problem isn't the BIOS or a Lenovo limitation.  You have a 4th gen CPU  i7-4500u.  The 16GB modules only work on 5th gen or later

Hello I initially purchased Patriot Memory 8GB KIT 1333MHz DDR3 to replace the 4 GB it had initially. When I did this, the T410s would not boot. I then returned the memory and purchased Corsair PC10666 RAM - 8GB, (2x4GB), DDR3, 1333MHz, SODIMM Laptop Memory, Class 9 (CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9). Again, it would not boot.  So, I updated the BIOS to 1.49 and tried again. It would not boot. I then tried one 4 GB stick, and received the blue screen. I did check the BIOS and it showed 4096 MB. I tried both slots.  I'm not sure what to do, Please help!

Answer:Memory upgrade, Thinkpad T410s won't boot

Did it previously have 2 X 2gb? What operating system? I have used those brands successfully in similar machines, although sometimes there are problems with a particular brand in a particular machine. I have never had a problem with corsair vengeance RAM.BTW, CL 9 isn't class. It is CAS latency, and CAS stands for column address strobe. In English, it refers to how fast the memory responds.

Hey Lenovo Enthusiasts! I am about to purchase the Lenovo Thinkpad 550s, and I am tempted to purchase the baseline memory (4GB) and storage (512GB) HDD.  I want to make sure that I can indeed upgrade the memory to 16GB of RAM and the storage to a 256 (or 512) GB SSD. In my research earlier on, I noticed that somebody had posted a link to the parts list:https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/w550s_frubom_20150130.pdf I don't know what half of this technical jargon is, but from what I gather, I have found an SSD made by Samsung on Amazon, and an 8GB memory made by Data Memory Systems that seem to abide. SSD:http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-256GB-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-7KE256BW/dp/B00LMXBOP4 Memory:http://www.datamemorysystems.com/parts/lenovo/03X6657/ Questions:1) Could somebody wiser than me please verify that these products will work for the w550s? I was going to purchase them from Crucial, as they say that is is "100% compatible" but I am not sure still.Crucial: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Lenovo/thinkpad-w550s 2) In regards to the warranty, does anyone know if I were to mess up the data preloaded on the HDD that is put in the laptop, by trying to transfer it to the SSD, would the warranty cover fixing this? Kind regards,Spencer

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad W550s Memory upgrade to 16GB and S...

Very disappointing. Yes, I have the same problem (son, since it is your problem!). I note that over 189 people have at least looked at this question you asked before we decided to have you purchase the W550S...and after calling tech support one last time after my son purchased the machine (and was told there should be no issue)-we see BSOD multiple times within an hour.  They happen so quickly that it is hard to even note what the error message is.... I replaced his 512 HD with Samsung SSD 512GB drive. I used a disk duplicator-everything seemed to go great. Then I put in 16GB of RAM-again, everything seemed great. However, the notebook is only now being used frequently as my son is starting school now-and as said above, the BSOD is making me think this has something to do with the SSD or RAM replacement. Yes, obviously, it's fairly easy to replace with the original parts and see if the problem goes away-but he wanted the SSD and more RAM, so even if that fixes the issue-we will likely get rid of the notebook. BUT:  here is what disappoints me:  absolutely no comment on my son's original questions. I'm guessing I won't get input from Lenovo either....will try to call tomorrow, but we are almost beyond the point where we need to return the SSD/RAM and notebook if we want our money back. A little guidance from Lenovo would be appreicated before we need to make a decision.. Thanks,Steve

The ThinkPad T400 and T500 datasheet states that it can handle up to 8GB of RAM, so it should work unless you are running a 32-bit version of Windows, in which case the maximum RAM that can be addressed by the OS is 4GB regardless of how much RAM you install.       The Windows license key is valid for both 32 and 64-bit, but to go from 32-bit to 64-bit, you would have to uninstall and reinstall Windows. Windows Install Media Download Links,https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 Hope that helps,

Answer:Error upgrade memory thinkpad edge m430

Hi Marlon,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with Memory on ThinkPad Edge 14.

As you have mentioned that you have got DDR3 1333Mhz memory, but as per the specification it is recomended that we have to use DDR3 1066Mhz. Hence requesting to check with DDR3 1066Mhz memory.

And 1333Mhz is supported only for AMD Phenom?II X3 Triple-Core P820 (1.8 GHz)

1333MHz system bus, 1.5-MB L2 cache

So please confirm if the system is having AMD processor or Intel processor.

The link provided as per the query mentioned for ThinkPad Edge 14.

Please go through the link for further clarification on the specification.

Hope this helps.

Best regards.

Hi, I just purchased a T40 (2373-8CU) and it says that it's Wireless Upgradable, but doesn't say which card to get.  I know that the one I get has to have the IBM FRU number, but there appear to be several and I can't figure out which one I can use, and which one is best. 39T007139T007793P348391P7301Or something else. While I'm here, is there and special memory vendor that I can safely go to for the memory upgrade, and what type memory should I get? Lastly, is there a DVD writer that can be used to replace the CD/RW/DVD that came with the T40?  I can write CD's but not DVD's with this one. Thanks for your help. Brian

Answer:Thinkpad T40 2373-8CU Wireless Upgrade, Memory and DVD Writer

Welcome to the forum! Personally, I'd suggest the first card from your list since I've had good experiences with it. Your T40 will take up to 2GB of PC2100 or 2700 RAM (DDR 266 or DDR333). You can try one of these retailers: www.newegg.comwww.zipzoomfly.com As for DVD writer, I'd look for "ultrabay slim DVD-RW" on eBay... Hope this helps.

Community Friends, I have a ThinkPad E531 and would like to upgrade it to 16 GB Memory RAM. The specs on Lenovo.com say "The use of 650MHz SO DIMM memory is recommended for this system." BUT - When I search to buy memory, even on Lenovo.com, I've mostly only seen 1600 MHz memory. Certainly, no 650 MHz memory. (1) Is 650 MHz memory even available? (2) Is 1600 MHz considering "overclocking" (which I don't want to do, because it presumably can result in more errors and shorter hardware life). Thanks!Joe
