I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Your memory spec:2GB or 4GB std / 8GB max / PC3-8500 1066MHz DDR3, non-parity,dual-channel capable, two 204-pin SO-DIMM sockets; The 8GB max is two 4GB sticks not one 8GB stick.

I am a "techno-phobe"- and a "Have No Clue" when it comes to computers.

On another site- someone told me that I could upgrade my laptop by changing out the CPU and hard drive. I went to the Lenovo site to try to get prices, etc- but there is NOTHING of the sort on the site. Only a warning about VOIDING your WARRANTEE.... but I'm already "out of warranty".

Is this possible ? Is this practical ? THANKS

Yavuz, welcome to the forum,

Looking at the specs you should be good to go, but not having personally tested it I can't be 100% sure.

What does definitely work, as I have it installed in my T61p, is  Corsair VS4GSDS800D2 G.

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad R61i UPGRADE

Welcome to the forum!

There's no hard drive size limit on your machine - so if you want to put in 500GB, go ahead. The same holds true for the drive speed - your choice.

Any 9.5 mm laptop SATA drive - including SATA II - will work fine, but you'd need a modded BIOS to utilize the SATA II speeds on your machine.

T9600 will not work. T7700 should.

Your machine can handle 4GB of RAM for sure. And yes, if both slots are populated, it works in dual channel mode.

You could upgrade the screen to SXGA+ (1400x1050) or UXGA (1600x1200) that were used on T60/p generation.

Enjoy the upgrade process.

Hi guys and/or girls, I am working on upgrading a business laptop which happens to be the Lenovo Thinkpad T410, now im putting an 250GB 850 Evo to replace the INSANELY SLOW HDD, however i am also upgrading the system from windows 7 and upgrading the RAM, now here is where i need help, I am going to be installing a 2x4GB kit of Corsair Vengence SODIMM, however I am unsure whether i should go for the DDR3 1600 kit or the DDR3L 2133 kit, now these are both the same price so the obvious pick would be the DDR3L due to the lower power draw and higher frequency, but the current memory installeld is only 1333, however the laptop is documented to work with 1600 so i know this isn't a problem, however I am unsure if it would even correctly downclock the 2133 or would it simply refuse to post, as well as this, would the laptop still attempt to send 1.5v to the memory or will it automatically do 1.35v as required by the DDR3L, oh how i do wish laptops all offered an "advanced" section within the BIOS which would allow me to tweak all of this stuff, however the only thing the bios lets me do with memory is set an extended mem test during boot which obviously is no help.  Thanks for your help

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad E560 RAM Upgrade

Hi friend,

Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.

As I understand that you have query regarding upgrading your E560 memory.
Basically check the factors like:

Type of Memory
Size
Clock Speed
Max Voltage & Latency

Also for max performance try to split pairs of DIMMs across slots that use different memory channels. Don't mix the RAM stick with different clock speed as anyways motherboard would probably just automatically underclock the RAM with faster clock speed.

So according to psref (16GB max / PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3L, non-parity, dual-channel capable, two 204-pin SO-DIMM sockets)

I hope the above information helped you
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad X220 Upgrade Configuration

Hi, jarmonwhaim

Your plans are grandiose

1. Officially x220 supports 8 gb of RAM maximum. But if works with 16 gb (2x8 gb sticks) fine too. You can purchase Lenovo branded RAM sticks if you are a rich guy. I would recommend to buy the sticks of any vendor you like (Samsung, Kingston, Corsair, Transcend, Hynix etc) according to the following specification: PC3-10600 1333mhz DDR3 SO-DIMM SDRAM, 204 pins.

2. x220 supports a lot of wwan cards for 3g carriers worldwide. If you are not a traveller to US select Ericsson f5521gw HSPA+ WWAN Minicard. Note it must be with Lenovo approved p/n, FRU 60Y3279. I hope there are no specific carriers in your country so you'll don't need the such cards for Malaysia region.

Follow this thread for some discussion and information: WWAN card for the new 420/520 Thinkpads

3. You can fit any ExpressCard 34 or 54 you want - usb 3.0 adapter, eSATA adapter, tv tuner, media cards reader, audio/video card, wireless adapter etc.

4. Upgrade BIOS to up-to-date version and buy almost any 2,5" sata II (or III) SSD drive you'll can pay - Intel, Samsung, Crucial, Plextor etc. My advice is not to buy OCZ models. I would recommend the new model is better, the more capacity ususally means the more speed. Not the height of the drive should be 7 mm. You can post here models you'll find so we'll look at them and select together.

I guess you mean a i5-540M

Any of the following should work (I'm listing only CPU's that are faster than your current one)

Intel 1st Generation Core i5 CPU (Arrandale, Dual-Core):
Intel Core i5-560M (2.66 GHz, 3 MB L3, 1066 MHz FSB)
Intel Core i7-620M (2.66 GHz, 4 MB L3, 1066 MHz FSB)

The ones below may work too, but I'm not sure the cooler of the T510 can handle their TDP

Intel 1st Generation Core i7 CPU (Clarksfield, Quad-Core):
Intel Core i7-720QM (1.66 GHz, 6 MB L3, 1333 MHz FSB)
Intel Core i7-820QM (1.73 GHz, 8 MB L3, 1333 MHz FSB)
Intel Core i7-920XM (2.00 GHz, 8 MB L3, 1333 MHz FSB)

( price from the support) , which i found really expensive, we can easily find it for around 200 ?

Hello, I'm having some poor battery performance  on my Thinkpad 13 (~4 hours average battery life). I've used the lenovo application and found that my battery still has its full capacity/capability. I often run my 13 on the 'power saver' battery option. I'm also often having issues with significant battery drain even while the laptop is in 'sleep' mode.  Does anyone have any suggestions for these issues?  I am considering upgrading my battery, though I'm not sure which battery to buy--which batteries are compatibe and which ones would give me a significantly longer battery life. I purchased a Lenovo E520 back in November 2011. My current resolution is 1366x768. I'm curious if it's possible to upgrade the resolution on my laptop. I'm not very experienced with this so sorry for my wording. I just want my display to be "crisper", higher resolution, possibly 1080p, etc... Thanks for any help anyone may have on this subject.

Answer:Is it possible to upgrade the graphics on my brand new Lenovo Thinkpad E520?

haha a new graphics card is not going to help your display, and the intel hd 3000, assuming you have 2nd gen core, can easily handle 1080p videos. Also you can't upgrade your graphics because1) the GPU is built into the motherboard2)Most laptops cannot have their GPUs upgraded You need to buy a new laptop if you want a better graphics card. To improve performance go to power manager and set "Maximum Performance", when you're on AC charger, not battery.

Hi and welcome, heyArhumGlad to see ThnkPad and x220 lover 1. x220 supports up to 2x8 GB RAM installed. With BIOS up to v.1.28 it supports 1333 Mhz memory by default (by design) and memory 1600 Mhz w/o issues. With 1866 Mhz memory some issues might appear, depending on the memory stick manufacturer, model, parametersStarting with BIOS v.1.29 using not designed memory type is locked.2. x220 mSATA slot supports SATA II interface. There are no SATA III lines of laptop chipset in that interface. So, use any mSATA drive, on your choice - capacity, budget, vendor..., not in the m.2 formfactor (!). Intel, Plextor, Crucial, Corsair, Samsung, Kingston... Not NoName and OCZ. Of course, most mSATA III drives are back compatible with mSATA II slots. The choosing between mSATA + HDD and regular 2.5" SSD drives depends on the storage capacity you need, laptop usage profile.3. I don't know about palmrest cracking issue despite the fact I contacted with hundreds of the x220 owners, since the beginning of 2011. I'm sure there might be a bit trouble with parts fixing under palmrest, their routine. There was the single case I remember - the user has breaked it himself due to the impact.

Please Help! I ran the Lenovo BIOS Upgrade for Thinkpad E540 for Windows 7; it didn?t work. (?Failure to Read BIOS?) So I downloaded the ISO version, and burned it to a CD. My laptop boots up ONLY from the CD. Now exactly what do I do now, in simple instructions, to upgrade from the ISO CD to the new updated BIOS so that it would be on my laptop (instead of having to boot from the CD every time)? Thanks!

Answer:How do I Lenovo BIOS Upgrade for Thinkpad E540 for Windows 7 from ISO CD?

Welcome to the forum!

If you boot from the CD (and the ISO was correctly burned on the CD), you only need to follow the instructions on the screen. If I remember correctly you need to press Enter once, (eventually confirm by pressing the "Y" key) and then the BIOS will be updated. After that you can remove the CD and boot normally.

You need to be connected to the AC and have a full charged battery before the update.

Hope this helps...

Hey Lenovo Enthusiasts! I am about to purchase the Lenovo Thinkpad 550s, and I am tempted to purchase the baseline memory (4GB) and storage (512GB) HDD.  I want to make sure that I can indeed upgrade the memory to 16GB of RAM and the storage to a 256 (or 512) GB SSD. In my research earlier on, I noticed that somebody had posted a link to the parts list:https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/w550s_frubom_20150130.pdf I don't know what half of this technical jargon is, but from what I gather, I have found an SSD made by Samsung on Amazon, and an 8GB memory made by Data Memory Systems that seem to abide. SSD:http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-256GB-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-7KE256BW/dp/B00LMXBOP4 Memory:http://www.datamemorysystems.com/parts/lenovo/03X6657/ Questions:1) Could somebody wiser than me please verify that these products will work for the w550s? I was going to purchase them from Crucial, as they say that is is "100% compatible" but I am not sure still.Crucial: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Lenovo/thinkpad-w550s 2) In regards to the warranty, does anyone know if I were to mess up the data preloaded on the HDD that is put in the laptop, by trying to transfer it to the SSD, would the warranty cover fixing this? Kind regards,Spencer

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad W550s Memory upgrade to 16GB and S...

Very disappointing. Yes, I have the same problem (son, since it is your problem!). I note that over 189 people have at least looked at this question you asked before we decided to have you purchase the W550S...and after calling tech support one last time after my son purchased the machine (and was told there should be no issue)-we see BSOD multiple times within an hour.  They happen so quickly that it is hard to even note what the error message is.... I replaced his 512 HD with Samsung SSD 512GB drive. I used a disk duplicator-everything seemed to go great. Then I put in 16GB of RAM-again, everything seemed great. However, the notebook is only now being used frequently as my son is starting school now-and as said above, the BSOD is making me think this has something to do with the SSD or RAM replacement. Yes, obviously, it's fairly easy to replace with the original parts and see if the problem goes away-but he wanted the SSD and more RAM, so even if that fixes the issue-we will likely get rid of the notebook. BUT:  here is what disappoints me:  absolutely no comment on my son's original questions. I'm guessing I won't get input from Lenovo either....will try to call tomorrow, but we are almost beyond the point where we need to return the SSD/RAM and notebook if we want our money back. A little guidance from Lenovo would be appreicated before we need to make a decision.. Thanks,Steve

You should be able to do that yourself. But doing so is not covered under warranty. Any damage done to the machine will result in voiding your warranty. In this document are a few displays or LCD panels listed supported by the ThinkPad E450 for your reference:https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/e450_frubom_20160114.pdf

Just purchased a refurbished T420 with win 10 pro updated from win 7 pro, am wanting to do a clean install.
Anyone running a T420 on win 10 would appreciate any advice.
my only concern is obtaining correct drivers or will windows install them.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T420 clean install after upgrade.

In general Windows looks up drivers from an evolving database and provides them.

Occasionally the driver version is inappropriate; much less frequently a driver might not be found.

If all drivers are found without problems, do nothing more about driver maintenance.
We (almost never) recommend the use of driver scanner tools.

Note the Win 10 version on your PC may not be the newest major build; if so the iso you download may be newer, and might give rise to new issues.

(Check your version number with
Windows key + X, winver)

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad E545 that's about 18 months old. Everything has been fine until now. I upgraded from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 without a problem. However, I now realize the my CD/DVD player is not working properly. I inserted several different DVDs and CD. I can hear the player spinning as if it's trying to read the disc, but when I check File Explorer, the drive has not been recognized (and no CD or DVD starts).  After doing research, I tried most of the suggestions here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/314060 but I was unable to try to "fix registry entries" because I couldn't find Upperfilters and LowerFilters listed. Perhaps that suggestion didn't apply since the suggestion said to remove them.  I checked the BIOS to make sure the DVD was enabled.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This is precisely what I'm going through with my G50-70. (but after a re-install of Windows 10. Did you ever find a solution? I even tried all the suggestions in the link you supplied with the same result as you.If anyone knows the answer, please let us know. Thanks

There's a lot of videos on how to upgrade the SSD of the third generation Lenovo Carbon X1, but none say if it's a standard format that I could replace with a 1TB SSD. I just found this Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB mSATA 2-Inch SSD (MZ-M5E1T0BW) and was wondering if it could work? It's only $390. I would just get the regular 128GB HDD when I ordered my new Carbon X1 (gen 3) and then swap this SSD in it's place. Would this work?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Carbon X1 (3rd Gen) 1TB mSATA HDD hard drive upgrade

No. The picture you have is a 42mm mSATA drive. You need an 80mm M2 drive (different size and newer-format connector) . I haven't seen any larger than 512gb

Hello, I am looking to upgrade the Wifi card that came with my E431. Currently I have the Intel Centrino N2230 and was considering upgrading to Intel 7260 wireless card. I understand that Lenovo only allows whitelisted wifi cards to be used in their laptops and wanted to know if this was on the list and if not if there is a viavle alternative. I have: Windows 10Intel Centrino N2230BIOS: HEET48WW (version 1.29)BIOS Date: 03/13/2015 Thanks in advance! - Brian

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad E431 Wifi Card Upgrade for AC support?

Hello and welcome,

Something to keep in mind about the whitelist:  a card must be a whitelisted model and have a Lenovo FRU.  A generic card - even if the model is listed - won't pass.

The FRU list is here:  https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/e431_fru_list_20130430.pdf

I don't think any of the listed cards are AC, but please double-check that.

I had Lenovo IdeaPad G570 with the B950 processor. It was possible to upgrade from sandy bridge to IvyBridge with no problems. (atleast on the ideapad, but you had to upgrade the bios to the latest version). Also the fan's across the series were the same. So it was no problem to upgrade to IvyBridge i5 cpu... now the i7 is alot more powerfull so i'm not sure, but if there is a E530C with i7 out of the box, you should not have any problems. They don't use different fans. Everything is the same, only cpu's differs.

Hi, I just purchased a lenovo thinkpad yoga 14 a month ago , I was a bit regret that I did not upgrade my graphic card to NVIDIA GeForce 840M 2GB and my current graphic card is Intel HD Graphics 5500. I was wondering is it possible to upgrade my graphic card to  NVIDIA GeForce 840M 2GB? I will back to china for 8 months placement next month, is it possible to upgrade my laptop in china rather than in uk? (still need it for my exam really...) and my wifi is slow as well.. i have to get a adaptor to plug the network cable to get the normal speed, i have three lenovo laptops in home and none of them have that problem. Anybody know why?

I wouldn't gamble on a successful ending. Wait to replace it after your exams. Upgrade your warranty if necessary to make it last longer. Because it will be an expensive upgrade.

Answer:Lenovo-ThinkPad-W541-20EFCTO1WW: is it possible to change/upgrade Quadro K2100M to GTX 980M ?

The GPU is soldered to the motherboard, so you can't replace it.The K2100M should still work okay for games.

The 980M is also a 100 watt card, whereas the K2100M is a 55 watt card. There's no way the W541 could handle that even if you could replace the GPU.

I've been trying to contact Taiwan Lenovo's warranty registration team that sometime in the second week of June, someone suddenly placed a "Loaner Machine" warranty upgrade on my Thinkpad T460s (Upgrade type P2L) without my authorization. The description of the P2L upgrade is"This product is entitled to loaner machine support for up to 1 year in which actual support duration follows machine's base warranty. Loaner machine is available for customer with repair service exceed 3 business days turnaround time. This service is limited to in-warranty service claim and exclude out of warranty, customer induced damage or machine DOA. Any damage to the loaner machine will be charged to the customer." The laptop was purchased in March, so I was not happy about this mysterious upgrade that suddenly appears 2.5 months later. In fact, I can isolate its sudden appearance to be between 6/3 to 6/9.Additionally, this upgrade has been preventing my ability to purchase a warranty extension on Taiwan Lenovo's website.I contacted Lenovo Taiwan about this, and they said that this is a special favor for all Lenovo Taiwan customers starting from the beginning of the year. However, a friend of mine has a Thinkpad purchased from Lenovo Taiwan in February, and it doesn't have this mysterious upgrade that appears out of no where. In any case, Taiwan Lenovo refuses to remove this upgrade, saying that I could call them if I want to purchase warranty extensions. But I would prefer to purchase warr... Read more

Answer:Lenovo Taiwan won't remove a mysterious "Loaner Machine" warranty upgrade on my Thinkpad T460s

Literally had to create a powerpoint presentation to explain this warrany upgrade problem. I've been very persistent in telling them I don't want that Loaner Laptop warranty. I would think if I don't want a free gift, one should respect that. Additionally, I feel very uncomfortable that someone would be adding a warranty on my laptop months after purchase without notification. When I told the representative that a friend's laptop purchased this year didn't suddenly get upgraded with a Loaner Warranty, that representative asked for the serial number of that friend's laptop. I refused to give it because that's the property of my friend. (And isn't it also a protocol of Lenovo forums for users never to disclose serial numbers in a public conversation?) Finally, that representative says he would remove it, but it might cause some sort of tension within his organization or some overseas organization, whatever that means. He said that they would have to file a request to some organization overseas for processing. I've also tried to contact Lenovo US earlier. They indicated that they would have been willing to remove that warranty, but they couldn't because the laptop is located in Taiwan.

I have a ThinkPad W520-4282. I want to use a ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 (170W) [pn 433830U] at work and a Lenovo USB 2.0 Port Replicator with Digital Video [0A33942] at home.I did not have to install any drivers for the Mini Dock and it worked just fine driving an external monitor. After installing the driver for the Port Replicator, I could no longer drive the external monitor when attached to the mini dock or the VGA+ video port on the ThinkPad.I played with a lot of things to fix the situation and nothing worked. I even uninstalled the driver for the Port Replicator and still could not drive an external monitor. In fact the laptop did not even recognize that an external monitor was attached.Later I found using the Device Manager that the NVIDIA Qadro 1000M display adapter was disabled, proabably during installation of the Port Replicator driver. Once I enabled that, I could drive an external monitor again. Can anyone tell me if this is normal? Will I be able to use the Port Replicator if I install the driver again?

So I got myself the Lenovo ThinkPad W510 the other day, specific model being "431929G", along with it I got myself a 9-cell battery instead of the included 6-cell as well as this additional "slice battery" solutions which you attach at the bottom of the computer using the docking port it seems? The box which this slice battery came in was marked model 57Y4545, the piece of battery inside however says FRU: 42T4739? I guess and hope it's the same thing?  It does attach to the bottom of my W510 without any issues whatsoever, I lock it in place so I get that green indicator which should mean it's supposed to function? But it doesn't.. ThinkVantage Power Manager do pick up the battery but it's just standing there at 12% battery with no activity? Even after the main 9-cell is fully charged it wont start to charge the slice battery? I did even remove the main 9-cell in order to see whether or not that would change anything, but it didn't? And if I remove the power cord when running only the slice battery the W510 will just drop dead? So it's not charging, neither is it providing my W510 with any more battery life? It just sits the with 12% battery with no activity whatsoever, no charging or usage at all?

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

When I dock the computer and press the power button on the dock it doesn't recognize my monitor as the main screen. I have to hit a key (Windows 10) and put in my password hoping that it's doing that and then the screen comes up. If I reboot after that ... THEN.... it recognizes my screen as the main monitor. How do I fix this? The only time this happens is when I use it off the dock and then put it back on. If it stays on the dock all the time it does just fine. Any fixes for this? Thanks...

Hallo!

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Bluetooth Laser Mouse hakt und ruckelt seit Creators Update am Thinkpad P70 ...

I got the same problem.... But first let me translate this for everybody here.  My P70 (or in my case P71) has a problem to keep the connection estimated between the Lenovo mouse and my Laptop. Got the current driver installed.  The German guy above me got the same issue after the creators update.   I set everything Bluetooth related in Device Manager up to NOT let windows turn of the device to save power.  The mouse cuts out for 5 sec and comes back on. If you turn the mouse upside down during that time I noticed that the battery led toggles on and off. So it reboots. So I assume it's driver related to because it worked perfectly fine before on the L530 guys machine.

trying to decide between the T540P/T550 and W541/W550s..... it will be for school and would like to have a 5th gen i series CPU but that's not top priority as other specs are the deciding factor for me. ether one needs dedicated graphics and 16 or 32 gb of ram with windows 7 and a 3K display.... do I really need an i7 for graphics and computer service/IT? what do you recommend?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T540P/T440P vs Thinkpad W541/W550s

They are all good machines.  First thing I would say is that I would highly suggest sticking to the newer models that have physical trackpoint buttons above the touchpad instead of the large clickpad (e.g. the T540p).  Even if you only use the touchpad, the newer one is significantly better.  I have a T440s myself and actually replaced the original clickpad with the one from the newer model because the original was so terrible. You also need to think about whether you need a dedicated Quadro GPU or not.  This would be the main difference between the T and W series.  For heavy graphics work, the W series is the better option whereas the T series is designed for more business-oriented workloads. You then really have the slightly tricky decision for the CPU.  Currently Intel have not released full power Broadwell (5th gen) CPUs.  This means that the T550 and W550s have the 5th generation, low voltage CPUs.  While these are still good chips and will certainly improve battery life, they will be slightly less powerful than the full power counterparts and also don't have quad core options (they are all dual core with hyperthreading).  If you want a full power/quad core chip, you would need to then go for the W541, however this does mean you are getting a slightly older Haswell chip.  Whether this bothers you is really up to you.Whatever you do, also ensure that you get an IPS screen - The ThinkPad IPS screens are fantastic, the TN... Apologies if this is reprising and earlier question on this topic. I have recently acquired an old-ish second-hand ThinkPad X230 [2325SWK build with a G2ET91WW (2.51) BIOS], accompanied by a ThinkPad UltraBase Series 3 docking station [P/N 0B67692] which has an empty 2½" bay.I need advice on the following issues:1    The X230 currently has an SSD installed [Samsung 128GB MZ7TD128HAFV-000L1] which will not be large enough for the programs and program data that I have planned to install.  I would like to upgrade to a 1 1TB SSD, and I propose to clone the contents of the existing 128 GB drive to a 1 TB Samsung 850 Evo [MZ-75E1T0B].  Are there any SATA or other firmware issues that I should be aware of before acquiring the 1 TB drive, arranging for its cloning and for the replacement of the current 128 GB drive?2    I would like to populate the empty 2½" bay on the UltraBase Series 3 docking station with an HDD, and the model I have in mind is a 2 TB Seagate BarraCuda Hard Drive [ST2000LM015].  Again, I'd like to know if there are any hardware, firmware or other issues before acquisition and installation.I'd be grateful for any help on either of these two issues in an Australian context.

I recieved my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 11e a couple of days ago and it came with a lot of bloatware, or at least what I thought was. I started uninstalling a lot and everything seemed to work fine. I restarted it, but when it came back, I noticed the touch screen would not work. I went into the Device Manager and realized that one of my I2C drivers had the triangle with the exclamation was on one of them. After trial and error, I realized that disabling and re-enabling the driver would allow my touch screen to work. After a restart, however, I was back to square one. My wife bought her the same Lenovo Yoga and I have been compairing the two. I just noticed that I am missing the I2C controllers in the System Devices in the Device Manager as well. I have tried booting from an installation from hers and even copying the drivers and System32 folder to no avail. If anybody has any solutions, please help. I have tried everything I knew and everything I could find. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 11e missing I2C driver. Drivers from lenovo website not working.

Hello and welcome,

What happens when you install the i2c driver for your machine?  Before doing so please verify the machine type (20D9, 20DA) as there's another machine type option available.  Downloads found by using SUPPORT above and entering Yoga 11e.

Machine: T520 bought Feb. 2012O.S. W~7 Pro 64-bit I want to wipe the harddrive, buy a Lenovo W~7 PRO installation DVD, and do a completely clean installation. Lenovo User Guide (.pdf) Ch. 8, Adv'd Config, Installing Windows 7, p. 295 (212 of 298) says:Start Thinkpad setup, then choose UEFI versus Legacy, then insert the installation DVD. This obviously does not apply when the harddrive has already been wiped (necessary to 100% eliminate all traces of irreversible damage caused by a virus, including the re-installation partition (Q-drive). When an intallation DVD is purchased from Lenovo, is not the first step to insert the DVD ?!! Then presumably there is an installation wizard resulting in a restored O.S. ?!! If not, please tell me what surprises are in store, and where I can find a reliable written resource to consult !!! Thank-you.

Hi,

By Start Thinkpad setup presumably the manual means go to BIOS and configure for UEFI.

Strange wording indeed.

Answer:PLEASE LENOVO PLS PLS PLS!!! UPDATE YOUR GRAPHICS DRIVERS FOR LENOVO THINKPAD S1 YOGA

I don't see why you want to update your graphics drivers. If it works, it works. If there aren't any bugs there is nothing to worry about. And as far as gaming performance goes, it is still going to be slow and barely going to make a difference. If the generic drivers from Intel, Nvidia or AMD work use those. But make sure that brightness keys etc work correctly.

Purchased a brand new ThinkPad Yoga 14 Ultrabook, I have it one week.  I called Lenovo for support on the pen and touch screen driver and they want $70 before they will help.  Reps said that this issues has been resollved but that  I need to pay ANOTHER $70, on a machine that just came out of the box, if I want to know what it is. Disappointed to say the least!  If there's a Lenovo rep that wants to make this better, I'd appreciate it.

First off thanks for letting me join.  Just wanted to get some opinions from some of the more experienced Lenovo owners and users.  I want to pick up the T420 as my first Lenovo Thinkpad.  What is the overall verdict on this laptop (Good build quality, reliability issues, or anything else I should be aware of)?  I use to own a IBM Thinkpad and just missed the overall layout of the Thinkpad specific look and functionality.  To date, the IBM Thinkpad has been my favorite Windows based laptop.  Any and all opinions would be deeply appreciated. May God bless! Ed

Answer:New to forum and opinions on the Lenovo T420 being my first Lenovo Thinkpad?

I've only had my T420 for a couple of weeks but so far I really like it.  I reminds me of a mini version of the W520.  My T420 has the i7 processor, NVIDIA Optimus and most of the options.  I upgraded the RAM to 16GB and currently have the Intel Series 510 120GB SSD in the primary bay.  I am waiting for a Samsung Series 830 SSD to arrive. No complaints so far.  It runs nice, quiet and cool. If I were going to improve anthing on the machine, it would be the screen.  The 1600x900 AUO screen on mine is fair but I can live with it.  I bought this machine new on eBay for an excellent price. I am using the 6 cell battery right now and get a little over four hours of battery life. The 9 cell is quite a bit better but I like the flush lighter 6 cell. Love the keyboard.  The trackpad is fair but I haven't tweaked the Ultranav settings yet.  Been using a mouse mose of the time. I have several ThinkPads and I think the T420 is an excellent balance of power and features.  I am comparing it to my X301, T410s, T61p and W510.  I added a 34mm USB 3.0 ExpressCard (still testing). After my experience with the W520 random shutdowns, I won't be totally comfortable with this machine for a couple of months but it's looking really good so far.  I am optimistic.

Friends from Lenovo,I write you because, on August 12th, 2016, trying to install the new Windows 10 Anniversary Update, I had to do a reboot of my notebook and in the process, I lost most of the programs and drivers that use my notebook to work properly. I already installed most of the drivers I lost that day, but I still haven`t found and install the correct driver for the hotkeys of my notebook. So far, I have tried with the files r09vu09w and 8jvu43ww, but none of that files is the correct one for my ThinkPad X220 notebook, which I bought in the year 2012. Therefore, I need to ask you if you could tell me how can I get, download the CORRECT hotkey file for my notebook, so I could download it and install it on my Lenovo notebook. Friends from Lenovo, could you please tell me how can I get the correct hotkey file for my notebook Lenovo ThinkPad X220, in order to download it and install it on my notebook?THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR HELP!!!! Yours truly,Cristián Palau

Hi All,   I am new to lenovo so please help me to decide, I have purchased the x230 with thinkpad 1X1 b/g/n which only connects maximum at 72mbps. I tried all the settings in the router and network card, (changing channel to 40Hz ). I am bit disppointed since this card says it can do 150mpbs but never reaches the maximum speed more than 27mbps whereas my wifes MBP reaches 70Mbps. I am really disappointed with the wifi performance and thought of returning the machine now.  Question1: Can i replace the wifi card myself? i am too scared to look inside the laptop if that voids my warranty whether thinkpad 1X1 have two antennas connecting to the wifi card? will that have any impact on my warranty? Question 2:is Intel 6250 a good option to buy? ( I know there is a whitelisting/blacklisting), i am simply asking this since i am not sure the wifi card will fit in with the number antenna wires that will be avilable to fix a dual band (2X2) card.  Will anyone be able to help me with this situation? Thanks in advance , i need a speeder reponse since i have to return the machine by tomorrow.

Answer:x230 THinkpad wireless adapter upgrade from 1X1 to 2X2 upgrade

Q1. Lenovo doesn't consider the palmrest and wireless card a customer replaceable part. While, i have personally done to the upgrade from the 1x1 b/g/n to the intel 6205. It isn't very hard, just do it slowly and have an-anti-static wrist strap on.Q2. 6250 is the 2x2 card with Wimax, do you use wimax? The 1x1 card and 2x2 card both uses 2 antenna, the 3x3 uses 3 antenna (i.e. intel 6300). http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/8276716468/in/set-72157631966265223/lightbox/The X230 in that picture has the 1x1 card (prior to replacement), and the X220 in that picture has the 2x2 intel 6205. =========If you can return it and reorder then it would be the best.

I purchased a brand new Lenovo ThinkPad SL510 a few months ago and I voluntarily purchased the three-year extended warranty because I had heard such great things about Lenovo's repair services and warranty services.  Many people had told me that the warranty services were top-notch and frustration free.  Not true so far in my experience.  First, the screen crack started out as a hairline crack.  I did not drop the laptop or in any way cause the problem.  It just appeared one day and then got worse.  I spoke with Lenovo and they sent me a box to send it to them for the repair, but then they sent it back to me unfixed.  They did not even attempt to fix the crack and told me that they would require my credit card number to repair the screen and that it would cost no less than $900.  This is nearly twice the price of the laptop itself as purchased new.  The Lenovo technician apparently thought that I had caused the crack in the screen and nothing I said could change the technician's false belief that the problem had actually occurred through no fault of my own and might actually be a manufacturer's problem.  I am not happy with Lenovo's handling of this matter so far and wanted to see if others had had similar problems.  Another problem is that if Lenovo does not fix the laptop, then I have a 2 and half year remaining warranty that I paid for that will now be for a laptop that does not even work.  I am now stuc... Answer:ThinkCentre: Stuck at Lenovo splash screen after lenovo solution bios upgrade

I would try resetting the BIOS using the jumper, or by taking out the CMOS battery, wait a minute or two, and then replace it and try booting up. See page 73 of the Hardware Maintenance Manaul linked below for location of the Clear CMOS/Recovery jumper (# 20) https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkcentre_pdf/m83m93p_hmm.pdf Clearing the CMOS (BIOS)1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer. 2. Remove the computer cover. 3. Locate the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper on the system board. 4. Move the jumper from the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2) to the maintenance position (pin 2 and pin 3). 5. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. 6. Turn on the computer and leave it on for approximately 10 seconds. Then, turn off the computer by holding the power switch for approximately five seconds. 7. Repeat step 1 through step 2. 8. Move the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper back to the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2). 9. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. Good Luck,

Hi, Yesterday, using Lenovo Solution Center 2.4.003, I upgraded the firmware (since it was marked critical) of my USB-3 dock in my office. Now I cannot connect anymore with the network. Now and then I see few blinks and monitoring with wireshark shows that the dock transmit data, but does not receive anything. The adapter is configured with fixed IP addres, so we do not use DHCP. I see ARP(Who has ...?) request going out, and nothing returns. What is going here? BTW, when using a USB-Ethernet adapter on the same cable everything works. So it is NOT a cabling/network problem. Also, before upgarding everything was working. Do you have a suggestion? For instance how to revert back to the old firmware?BTW, how do I see what version firmware is in the docking station? Thanks,Jos
