I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E550 touch pad disable when typing + disable with usb mouse feature missing

Hi jd31,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!

You could consider disabling the synaptics pointing device in Device manager while you have attached the USB mouse.

Please let us know, whether the above step helped you.
Thank you, have a good day.

Hello, I'd like to disable my laptop touchpad on windows 10. I've tried all the options which i found via forums and google, but it isnīt work for me. Can someone help me?(I havenīt trackpad so i need touch pad on, when i havenīt mouse plugged and its really anoing for me to turn it on and off via Fn shortcuts)

Answer:Lenovo y50-70, How to disable touch pad when mouse is plugged in.

Have you tried using Windows 8 drivers? It may cause some trouble so you might want to do a restore point. I do know for sure that Synaptics drivers supported the option to disable touchpad upon connecting an USB mouse. Another alternative will be to wait and see if Lenovo releases a new version of the trackpad drivers that already support this functionality.

I keep accidentally hitting the touch stick when I'm typing and then the cursor jumps to another spot.  How can I disable the touch stick? Older answers on the web say to go to Control Panel, Mouse, and disable it there, but there isn't anything "there" to disable.  Help!

Seems Windows 7 when I type in file names and it sometimes locks the first letter of a word to lower case and no matter what I do I cannot force it to change from lower case to upper case again. How do I disable this feature or can I?

example file name

Barneys Night out on the town.avi

"town" is lower case and I want it to be upper case and windows 7 prevents me to change it back.

I looked in some of the help files and cant find the right topic on this.

thank you for any help,

dathyr1

Answer:How do I disable a Windows 7 smart typing feature

Hello Dathry1, and welcome to Seven Forums.

This is because file name text is not case sensitive in Windows 7, so Windows 7 sees town.avi and Town.avi as being the same name capitalized or not. This is why it does not change when you rename it with the same letter.

As a workaround, rename the file to say town1.avi, then rename it again to Town.avi to have it capitalized.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hello, I just started using this laptop and I got a solid state drive because I wanted to have a much faster boot time and better overall performance.  When I shutdown and reboot I certainly see a big improvement relative to shutting down and rebooting my current laptop.  Unfortunately not so for hibernation.  If I hibernate the screen goes black and it seems as if the computer is off except for the flashing red dot in the bottom right hand corner that is part of the thinkpad logo is still flashing.for quite a while. When you start it from hibernation it takes 50 to 60 seconds to get to the login screen and it takes longer at points that seem more awkward relative to the last computer I had.  Usually once you see a windows screen you expect that within 10 to 15 seconds you will have a login and after logging in within 5 seconds you will see the desktop.  All of the long pauses required to start from hibernation violate these expectations so it makes it see like forever. This is far worse than my normal non SSD hard drive.  I heard it takes time for this to improve?  How much time?  When will this improve its terrible now I have just as well purchased a HDD. ~J

I have an HP dv3 laptop with a synaptics touchpad. Swiping the left edge of the touch pad causes programs which have a zoom capability to zoom in and out. There is no documentation from HP or Synaptics or Microsoft that I have been able to find which even acknowledges that this feature even exists. I would like to turn the feature off because I keep activating it by accident, but I cannot find a setting anywhere. Perhaps there is a registry setting I can change?

Answer:Want to disable left edge zoom feature

Some additional information: the pointer becomes the crossed lines with arrows that I associate with Move during the swipe and then after the release the shrinking circle occurs as if I had pressed the CTRL key to locate the cursor. The advertised way of doing a zoom with the keypad is to hold the CTRL key and swipe the right edge.

I have a Thinkpad E550 connected to a OneLink Pro Dock.  Connected to the dock I have 2 monitors, 1 x DVI and 1 x Display port and a combo mouse/keyboard wireless USB. I have 2 questions:1.  How many monitors can this video card/CPU handle?2.  If it can handle more than 2 what would be the best way to do so without using the HDMI from the laptop.  I would ideally like to keep the laptop closed and use the dock.  I would like to have 4 monitors but as there is no additonal ports on the dock I would either need either a displayport or DVI splitter or is there another option? Thanks for your time.

Since the task switcher and action center can be brought up through buttons on the task bar, is it possible to disable the left and right edge swipe gestures for them? I realize that it may not be a popular opinion, but I came to dislike the edge swipes on Win 8.x because I tend to accidentally trigger them, especially with games that have swipe-like motions. (Fruit Ninja was my first experience with this when the Surface launched. My most recent experience was with Overkill 3 on my DV8P, repeatedly triggering the task switcher while trying to aim with the left onscreen thumb "joystick".)

My Lenovo U410 Touch recently got damaged - the hinge broke causing the touch screen to **bleep**.I was told that a repair was not feasible as none of the repair shops near me were able to source the parts needed.I therefore bought a new laptop. However, there is a lot of data on the old laptop that I want to access, including sorting out the licensing of MS Office (by uninstalling from the old one).I cannot do anything about it as the old machine is completely unusable as due to the touch screen being cracked, it seems to think it is constantly being touched in multiple places on the screen. This means that I cannot access the laptop to copy the data or uninstall Office. Anyone know any way around this that doesn't involve taking it to a repair shop to "recover" my data. Cheers

Been navigating a few different forums quite a bit for this one.We downgraded this Lenovo E431 to windows 7 to fit our corporate environment. There is no disable option in the BIOS.The windows 7 drivers do not add the UltraNAV tab. Always fails on the 3rd portion as the 2 green check marks pass on the first 2 components and fail on the 3rd.  Ran under both the user and admin accounts. No other missing drivers. The device manager does not show any touchpad drivers aside from a "universal" mouse driver which can not be uninstalled.Registry mod will not change this. Aside from pulling the ribbon cable out I am sort of at a loss.  First time ever being stumped by a touchpad.....Last time ever buying an E431 for our environment, we've had 3 of these so far and nothing but issues. Sticking with other Lenovo models. Any ideas?

I realize this is an old question, but my reply may help some with the same new question.  There's a quick answer for those who know what they are doing and a longer answer for those who don't. On my Lenovo Edge 2-1580 I couldn't turn off the detestable touch pad.  Here's the part you know:Because this is a Synaptics touchpad, the option to disable it if an external mouse is connected, simply isn't there.   You also might know that if you go into regedit and look for  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh and change the value to 33 it should work ... but doesn't. What I found is if you go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh and change THAT value to 33, reboot your computer, it does indeed work!  Pull the receiver from the USB port and the touchpad starts working again! For those not familiar with regedit, your best option is to find someone who is and have them do it because editing the registry is not something you want to be doing if you don't know what you're doing. Answer:ThinkPad Edge E330 WiFi disable

Hello elFilipko, exactly the same thing happened to me today and this is how I managed to fix it: 1. I have downloaded four Windows drivers as described here (the first one of the links isn't active anymore so I downloaded this driver in its current version from support.lenovo.com - Lenovo Power Management Driver for Windows 8). 2. I installed all these drivers on my Windows 8 (I have dual boot - Win 8 and Ubuntu). 3. After restarting the computer and rebooting again to Windows, I pressed F9 to enter Wi-Fi-related settings (you may be required to press Fn+F9, depending on your settings). After pressing this key, a small window with Wi-Fi-related settings should appear in the middle of the screen (as far as I know, this special window appears only with the Windows 7 version of these drivers, so it was necessary to uninstall and replace the Windows 8 versions of drivers in my case). In this small window, I disabled airplane mode and turned Wi-Fi on. 4. After step 3, it seemed that nothing has changed, but just after rebooting to Ubuntu, the Wi-Fi was on and working. I think a similar solution could work in your case too, just install Win 7 or Win 8 and try it. Best regards.

Could we have the option to disable the onboard Intel Video Card completely if a PCI-e video card is being used as the primary video. Older IBM-Lenovo Desktops have this option (M52s). Apparently this new M57 support up to 8 GBs of RAM. But if you install 4 GBs of RAM, and use a 64 bit OS, the motherboard only allocates 3.6 for the OS, because 350 MB are being allocated to the onboard Video Card. This is the response I received from Lenovo support. If you install 2 GBs you get all 2 GBs for the OS. 3 GBs you get 3 GBs for the OS. 4 GBs installed  and you get 3.6 GBs for the OS. What gives?? I'm waiting for 2 X 2 GB modules, and I'll try going beyond the 4 GB mark. Apparently Lenovo M57s 6072-A5U should support up to 8 GB of RAM This is all being done with 64 bit OSs and MemtestMessage Edited by novoa4 on 10-29-2008 02:02 PMMessage Edited by novoa4 on 10-29-2008 02:02 PM

how do u disable touch pad mouse click

I have a touch pad mouse on my laptop and if u touch the pad it clicks and if u move your finger on the pad it moves the mouse. I am fine with the moveing i dont like the clicking, if i want to click something i can use the mouse buttons for that

Answer:how do u disable touch pad mouse click

hi yiiyyii,

there should be a setting in your mouse properties control panel. labeled "enable tap to click" (or something similar).

since you wish to disable the feature, I assume that you're "clicking" by accident. you can probably solve that problem by reducing the touchpad sensitivity (same control panel).

personally I can't do without that feature when using my laptop. I don't have the patience to move my finger over to the buttons

cheers

hi is there a way to auto disable the touch pad when an usb mouse connected to the machine? and auto enable it again once the usb mouse is unplugged?

Answer:Auto disable touch pad when USB mouse connected

Hi Akuswara, welcome to the Eight Forums.

Most touchpads allow this setting, it can be found in Mouse Properties. This example is for Synaptics touchpads:

Open Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > MouseSelect the Device Settings tabSelect Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attachedClick OK to save settings
That's it. Now every time you connect a USB mouse, the touchpad is automatically disabled. As soon as USB mouse is disabled or disconnected, the touchpad will be enabled again. Depending on Notification Area settings you'll get a notification (screenshot above, at bottom) every time touchpad is disabled or enabled.

Hi, I have an ideacentre B540. My two year old daughter did something to my computer when I wasn't in the room and ended up busting it right on the top left corner. There is only one hairline crack that was visable in the upper left corner. I've found a replacement LCD screen, but cannot afford it right now, so... Meanwhile, I would like to just disable the touch portion of my computer, because often, it will think it is active (probably damaged the sensor in the fall :-P and take the power away from my  mouse, open random windows, and generally... Make an otherwise normal PC unuseable. Is there ANYTHING that I can do to disable the touch pad? Even a list of the touch specific processes that I can immediately delete upon startup would be great, because it seems to give me a few minutes before it decides to start acting up. Thanks!

I do know how to manually turn off the touchpad but I want to find an option where if I plug in a mouse, the computer would automatically disable the touchpad. Also another question I have is, is there a way to increase the speed of the touchpad? I am currently at my max speed for my touchpad's sensitivity from the Control Panel -> Mouse Settings. Is there somewhere in the UltraNav where I can increase the speed even furtther?

Hi to all the Lenovo forum users from Italy.this is my first post here, hopefully someone will be able to help me.I have bought a beautiful ThinkPad P50, and have added a Samsung 960 PCIe SSD disk to the default configuration. The disk is detected in the BIOS and shows up in the F12 boot device list. However, from time to time I need a method to disable the PCIe or SATA disk from the BIOS. My problem is that my installation automated procedure via kickstart tries to install on the first detected disk, whichever it is and somethimes this leads to installation problems. Is there a method to disable the bus controller of the disks via the BIOS? Cannot seem to find it.. thank a lot for any hints. Marcello

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad P50 disable HD controllers

Sorry to inform you, what you want to do is not possible.  ThinkPad does not provide a way to disable installed drives.

I have two Lenovo laptops. As many people have noted, the touchpad can cause unwanted behaviors when simply typing. This often causes the pointer/focus to jump to another point while typing.Ideally there is a simple way to toggle the touchpad on and off depending on whether an external mouse is attached (I am sure it is far too much too expect that Lenovo has a mechanism to automatically detect this condition and make the adjustment!)The "help" solutions I have seen include: 1) pressing fn+f8 (does not bring up the screen indicated, and indee the key on my two laptops indicates a different function for the f8 key)2) Through control panel, go to mouse and open the UltraNav tab and click a box to disable. However neither of my laptops have an UltraNav tab there. Instead there is a tab labeled "Thinkpad" which on my 11e provides NO "disable" option and on my E440 allows you to set various combinations of touchpad and touchpoint options, NONE of which include disabling both.3) Through control panel / Devices, disable the touchpad. There is no "disable" option available there.4) Toggling the touchpad on and off by shutting down, interrupting the boot process to enter Bios settings and turning off the touchpad. A solution that requires a user to contstantly change bios settings is so unweildy and riduculous that no further comment is neccessary. (I am running Windows 7 pro... the native OS on both laptops and any "solution" that involves Windows 8 or 10 is not an acceptabl... Answer:Disable touchpad on Thinkpad 11e and Edge440 which do not have Ultranav tab in mouse settings

Solution!!!(At least for the 11e!) (Like many people, the touchpad is only of any use to me in an emergency situation. I normally use an external mouse. Negative side-effects of the touchpad make it imperative to disable it under normal operations.) From total frustration, I tried uninstalling the touchpad drivers. Well, on the next reboot, the system automatically reloaded the drivers. !!! Then I swallowed hard and decided to disable the touchpad through BIOS as suggested by a Lenovo tech in a reply to another user. Ultimately I reached a resolution, which is not perfect, but so much better than the lack of configurability provided by Lenovo. This worked for me. No guarantees for you. Step one: Go to http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds027949 and download the outdated version of the synaptic driver/application. The name of the file is 0dtp02ww.exe it is version 15.2.7.0 and it is dated 3/16/2012. Step two: Remove the Synaptics *APPLICATION* (not through "Device Manager") through control panel- applications. Step three: Run the file downloaded in step one. Step four: Open Control-Panel. There are several ways to get to the mouse configuration screen. One way is to just type "mouse" in the search box at upper right.. Under the options returned as "Mouse" click on "Change mouse settings". You will see that the "ThinkPad" tab has been replaced by one with the red and white Synaptics logo labeled "Device Settings". That ta... Read more

Answer:Why I can't disable mouse pad on lenovo e431

Hi Navuth,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that you had difficulties in disabling the touchpad of your Lenovo ThinkPad E531.

I would suggest you to go to control panel -> Mouse. Under the Ultranav tab, you can uncheck the enable trackpoint/touchpad to disable the one you wish to.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

New ThinkPad T440p and the first issue I encountered is there is no option to disable the touchpad when an external mouse is detected. I don't want to do it via the bios or some other hack as I use the touchpad when it is not convenient to use an external mouse. So it should be able to do the switching as needed, this is a simple feature that other manufacturers have had for years and years.  I already upgrade the UltraNav Driver to the latest v18.0.7.57 and that didn?t present a solution. I am running Windows 7 SP1 - 64bit.

It's technically part of the driver, so try the registry edit here if you can't find the option in UltraNav settings:http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-turn-off-touchpad-when-mouse-is-connected-in-windows-78-1/

I have a Yoga 2 11.  It seems that all of a sudden that Lenovo Transition is not disabling the mouse and keyboard until the computer is in the full tablet mode.  It used to disable these features in stand mode so when the computer is sitting on the keyboard, it's not pressing any keys.  But it's not working anymore.  Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is the case?  I have uninstalled the program, re-downloaded the software from lenovo, installed it, and also checked for updates.  I also tried both drivers for windows 8 and 8.1 (although i think they are the same, but i'm not sure)

Hello, I have bought new Lenovo E550 with preinstalled Windows 7. It is working fine but there is missing hotkey for turn off/on touchpad.UltraNAV driver is installed, but there is not quick option for turn off/on touchpad. Before ( other models Lenovo notebooks ) there was Fn+F8 key but now F8 key is for WIFI on/off.There is only one way how to do it: START\Control Panel\Mouse\ULTRANAV and manualy check/uncheck option for turn on/off the touchpad. But this is not comfortable. The question is: Is there any other quick option for turn off/on touchpad?Thank you Mathieu

Hi Raven450,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!

You could consider disabling the synaptic pointing device in device manager while you have a USB mouse attached or if you are using the trackpad.

Also you can look into the below given link for further steps:
https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht075599

Please write back, whether the above steps helped you.

It seems tricky to find a model for the E550... the only information I could collect is that the 12.7mm  for the T420 DOES NOT FIT on the E550: http://www.amazon.com/Nimitz-Drive-Caddy-Lenovo-Thinkpad/dp/B00NAMU8NO/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=144546... The explanatiom being that the caddy on the E550 is a 9.5mm Now, many generic 9.5mm caddy  exist, but few of them are advertised for Lenovo, and are from sellers abroad, like China or Nederlands...and will take ages to ship: http://hddcaddy.com/nl/lenovo-ibm-hdd-caddy/1143-lenovo-thinkpad-edge-e550-hdd-caddy.html  The only Caddy I could find in the U.S: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-2nd-SATA-Hard-Drive-HDD-Caddy-adapter-for-Lenovo-ThinkPad-E550-US-SELLER... Any expertise is very welcome!? ;=0)))

Hello, I have a Thinkpad e550 that I bought last year. Yesterday while typing my term paper I realized that some of the keys(s,k,d) were not working. Then i realized that the entire function keys row wasn't working either. Upon closer investigation I realized that this was because of the fn key always being depressed(not physically). So I went to the BIOS and swapped the control and the fn key. After a reboot I found that all my keys are working, but the fn key(which is now mapped to the ctrl key) isn't. Is there any fix to this? It seems weird that the function key is always depressed when mapped to fn but doesn't work at all when mapped to ctrl. It's been only a week since my warranty expired and I'm hoping to avoid replacing the hardware. Thanks

Just got a new Thinkpad E550 running windows 10 and I'm missing some touchpad settings. To avoid confusion, I'm talking about the touchpad not the trackpad. I've never really liked the touchpads that Lenovo decided to put on the Broadwell gen Thinkpads, but I've taught myself to live with it by tapping the bottom left corner as if a physical button is present. Pretty much, one finger would be used to move around on the touchpad, and the other finger would click on the bottom left corner- just like where a left click button would be on a real touchpad. This was fully possible with a Thinkpad Yoga 12 (Gen 2) I use, but I can't seem to do it on the Thinkpad E550. For some reason, the E550 doesn't have the "Synaptics Control Panel" that I loved on my Yoga 12. I relied on one setting that allowed me to actually be able to use the touchpad. This is called "Edge Tap Filtering". Just as the name suggests, "Edge Tap Filtering" would ignore taps on an adjustable reason towards the bottom of the touchpad. This allowed me to use the touchpad as I loved to, with one hand being able to move my mouse and the other to touch the bottom of the touchpad as if there is a physical buttom. Problem is, the E550 doesn't have this "Synaptics Control Panel" and its toned down version of ThinkPad touchpad settings doesn't have "Edge Tap Filtering" or anything remotely simillar. Whenever I would use my right ha... Read more

When I say behave strangely, I mean is exactly that: Anything from not work at all, to reverse so that left means right...until I press right and then things sometimes fix for a while. I'm sure that this is not entirely the fault of the touchpad itself, as I have plugged in a known working USB mouse and it also appears to suffer this problem. It's very strange. It's very annoying and I don't think I'll be able to keep the laptop if this can't be fixed. I really hope this is a driver or bios issue as with luck this will be fixable in software. --Rory Becker

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 15 - Mouse buttons behave strangely

I had the same problem. My Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 0301 (15"), wich I bourght two month ago, has been repaired 3 times - new motherboard, new palmrest, new keyboard and new software installation. It didn't solve the problem.I then tried going in the BIOS and disabling all power management including Intel SpeedStep technology, and also setting the powermanagement to maximum performance in Windows (Windows 7 X64).Now the touchpad and trackpoint works perfectly - so this must be a failuer in the powermanagement in this model.

Machine 3460-AQG; Win8 64bit 8 GB; Intel Centrino WiFi. ok, only two USB, one of which is usually occupied by the USB Dock.  So, I buy two Lenovo ThinkPad Bluetooth Laser mice to work without occupying a USB port for a mouse receiver. One for my X1; one for a Dell Inspiron XPS14, Win8- 64bit  btw., came in with same shipment.  Lenovo X1:  Original Thinkpad Bluetooth Laser Mouse randomly switches off and looses connection every 15 seconds or so. Workaround:  Disable the "switch off for  batterypower saving" in the Bluetooth device in Win8 device properties.  Subsequently, Bluetooth wears on battery runtime. After 30 minutes of searching, finally mouse works. Dell Inspiron:  ThinkPad mouse works like a charm, no tweak required, Dell saves energy for battery runtime.  Dell XPS14 machine cost a bit more than third (!!) of my Lenovo machine. Gerd

Answer:X1 Carbon Touch does not work with Lenovo Thinkpad Bluetooth Laser mouse

Hi, Gerd

Have you ensured that all your drivers are up to date, as well as your BIOS?  All updates for your system can be found here, if you would like to check. And for clarification, what do you exactly mean by "after 30 minutes of searching, finally mouse works?" Do you mean that the computer has to spend 30 minutes to find the mouse before it will connect?

Best,
Adam

I am an older person who uses my ThinkPad X120e away from the office quite a bit.  In the last few years my hands have become increasingly shaky.  What is happening is that when I move my finger around on the touchpad the cursor will pass over icons and buttons on the screen.  Often my finger gives an inadvertent bounce and whoops I just selected an ad or feature I did not intend to select.  So my question:  Is there a way to disable the select on tap function of the touchpad?  I still want to use it to navigate but prefer to use the keys to do the selecting because of my unsteady hands. Note to Marketing types - There are an increasing number of us old farts who are looking for ways to stay active on line in spite of our impairments. Thanks for any help, hoping this is a simple adjustment I have not found yet.

I'm using Windows 2K Pro, which warns of "Unsafe Removal of {USB} device".When I switch my USB printer off, I get this warning, because the printer has Card Slots. Is there any way to stop the Unsafe Removal warning for the printer only ?

Answer:Disable USB device unplug feature

I would suggest you don't attempt to disable this safety feature (even if you are able to). It is there to protect two expensive pieces of equipment - your computer and your printer. For the small trouble it is to heed the warning, do as it asks - you never know, one day you may find that you will be glad you did.

Currently I have "regular" updates disabled via GP (and occasionally I do a manual check, which then downloads and installs them).

1. Does this setting also stop feature updates (like the upcoming "Creators update") from being automatically downloaded and installed?
2. If I do a manual check when a feature update is available, will it be downloaded and installed, just like the regular updates?

I assume the answer to both is YES, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

So, is there perhaps a separate setting that would let me block feature updates permanently, while still allowing me to install regular updates like I'm doing now?
I know there's a "defer updates" option, but that only delays them, it's not a permanent block.

Answer:Disable feature updates (upgrades)

Hi, I find this convenient. (Check for updates, then apply the option).
Defer features and updates can defer for months. (E.g. Pro not Home). That should give plenty of time to assess the Creator's Upgrade.

Or, create /update your disk image, upgrade, try it, if problematic, roll back or, worst case, restore your disk image.

I would expect the answer to 1&2 to be yes - there are various GPO options.

Answer:Library feature....I hate it...how to disable?

It really doesn't store it in two places. The library just catalogs, in one place, files stored in, for example Documents and Public Documents. Or you can create you own
library entrys.

I have unchecked the Enable Suggested Sites feature in Tools > Advanced > Browsing.
Yet, IE 10 keeps suggesting web sites to my while I'm typing web addresses into the address bar.
How can I reliably disable this behaviour? I don't want to feed search engine robots.

Answer:How can I disable Suggested Sites feature in IE 10?

How can search from the address bar be disabled?

In the Manage Add-ons Search Providers dialog you could disable Search Suggestions for your default search provider and optionally uncheck:  Search from the Address bar.   Related to this from the Options Contents tab you could
navigate to Autocomplete Settings and uncheck Use AutoComplete for Address bar.   I think it is probably Search Suggestions that is bothering you the most but you might not be liking the AutoComplete for Address bar feature too.  Otherwise
I think disabling Search from the Address bar means that you can't use the IE search feature at all, even trying an explicit question mark space (? ) prefix, which I think is more drastic than one might expect.  Disabling Search from the
Address bar also has the quirky effect of forcing the feature of allowing single-word Intranet names to be used without a protocol prefix, which is otherwise needed to bypass the user's default search provider when such connections are slow.

I love to be able to disable and enable SSD or HDD storage from Bios. Why It is useful? 1) You can  enable one of available storage  as secure backup  target and disable it when backup is done. 2) You have option to disable some extra storage to save battery life and speed up boot time.3) You can disable  main OS storage ( let  say first SSD with Windows)  and install another OS at second  SSD without effecting  main storage. ( let say you can experiment installing  Linux or MacOS at another SSD without being worry about Windows at first SSD)4) You can clone First OS from first SSD into second  SSD. Then you can boot from second  SSD by  disabling first SSD and vise versa 5) You can disable broken SSD if it create issue with boot. I know @Amy response is, Think engineering  happily can add it if there are enough demand for it. So please vote on this feature request  if you think it is cool to be able to disable and enable storage from BIOS! Thanks!

I have a Aspire V 15 Nitro and it works fine. However, when using the touchpad, the mouse cursor has a small delay before it starts to move. I guess it is beacuse of some palm misclick feature. It really annoys me and i wish to turn it of, even if it makes me misclick with my palms when writing. I turned if off in mouse and touchpad settings but it still is very noticeable.  Anyone knows how to turn it off completely?

HelloI was just browsing around this great metropolis of advice, guidelines, how to's & etc, when I came across the topic over at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/31797/foistware/It was about how to protect yourself from Foistware & the likes.I then followed the instructions to disable the "Automatic Install Feature" in FireFox, but I could not locate a similiar page that was explained. I did notice that this was originally posted in 2005 and then edited in 2006.Could it be that FireFox has since updated and the feature no longer exists. Maybe because it is no longer necessary, or is it located elsewhere now.I don't know if the IE set of instructions are valid, since I don't use that browser. Thanks in advance for any info or reply.

Answer:Do I still need to Disable "Auto Install feature"

The Firefox automatic install feature is still there. Further in the thread the instructions are updated by tg1911 here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...st&p=663722I just checked and that is still valid for the current version of Firefox.

Hi! I recently bought a Lenovo ThinkPad E550 with Windows 8. I plugged in a USB mouse and I wanted to disable the TouchPad. I managed to turn off the TouchPad via Control Panel --> Mouse, but I can't seem to disable the 'mouse' keys at the top of the TouchPad - there just doesn't seem to be an option for that (I've gone through all of them). Can anyone help me disable those keys? I got a Lenovo because I type a lot and the keyboard was supposed to be really good, but now I keep hitting those TouchPad keys when I aim for the space bar, and I'm getting tired of having to fix my text and relocating my cursor all the time... All the best,Erika

Answer:Disabling the TouchPad on Lenovo ThinkPad E550?

You could consider disabling the Synaptics Pointing Device in Device Manager while you have a USB mouse attached.

I have installed the elan soft for touchpad. However, it only allows to disable the touchpad when a usb mouse is plug-in.How can I make the touchpad disabled during typing? btw: when I unplug the usb mouse, the touchpad is still disabled. How can I fix it?

Answer:Y410p: How to disable touchpad during typing?

hi uboats,

Can you try uninstalling the driver Installed right now for your touchpad,
    Uninstall it through Control Panel
Then Install any of these drivers according to your Windows Version.

Touchpad Driver (Synaptics, Elan)
Windows 7
Windows 8

After Installation go to you Mouse/touchpad properties to Adjust Palm Check,
You can follow this Article on how to get to the settings

PalmCheck The PalmCheck? feature guards against unintentional cursor movement and tapping caused by accidental contact of the palm or hand with the TouchPad. PalmCheck allows the TouchPad to recognize when a user?s palm is resting on it or brushing its surface while typing. This helps prevent unwanted pointer movement or clicks.

Hope this helps,
Cheers!

I thought I saw this option somewhere, but i cant find it anywhere, Ever since I got an external mouse (Microsoft Blue tooth mouse) I cant find any Touch pad settings, when i go to control panel, then mouse, I click open, it says: "Control Panel Extension is Incompatible with Driver Version". then it opens up my Microsoft's mouse settings, and I cant find my touch pad settings.

I still use the touch pad settings when I'm on trips and don't bring my mouse.

I cant find the touch pad under device manager either.

This is very annoying because when I'm typing, I accidentally touch the touch pad, and it moves the cursor, and starts typing in a different location.

Answer:How do I disable touchpad on my laptop when Im typing?

Look in the BIOS, which is accessible with a keystoke (DEL, F2 or whatever applies to your laptop) at boot-up time. You should be able to enable/disable it there.

I am trying to get used to Internet Explorer 9, having installed the beta a couple of weeks ago. One thing that frustrates me is the new pinned sites feature. That's supposed to allow you to drag the website icon to the taskbar to pin it. Unfortunately, it's not just the taskbar. Even when I drag it to a folder window, it creates a pinned site (a file with the .website extension), when all I want to do is create an Internet shortcut (a file with the .url extension) just like IE8 used to do. Is there a way to disable the pinned sites feature?

Answer:How to Disable IE9 Beta pinned sites feature

I don't have IE9, I tried it for a couple of days months ago and got rid of it. So I can't say if it can be disabled.Surely you can still use the add to favorites option, if it doesn't have the Favorites tab you should still be able to right click on the web page and choose Add to Favorites.
