I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently bought the  Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E531 with a 24 GB SSD cache..What If i would like to change this 24 GB cache to a pur SSD 128 GB hard drive? This should not work as a cache device, and I would like to install Window 8 and some programs on this "big" SSD HD.The 1000 GB HDD should stay where it is, so I could use both.Is this possible? are there 2 slots? 1 x HDD and 1 x mSSD? And the SSD Cache could be replaced by a standard SSD?greetzDagus

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E531 switch the SSD cache with a bigger SSD?

Welcome. The SSD cache uses a mPCI/mSata slot . So u cant use that slot for a regular SSD.  but u could get an SSD with mSata connection( they are more expensive ).I am not sure if u can boot using the mSata. It should be possible. Personally, I think the best idea is to: remove the opticaldrive and get an " HDD caddy" so u can keep the cache and the HDD and just put a regular ssd in the caddy. u can get those caddys for 10$.

Hi, i was just wondering if the Thinkpad Edge E531's Intel HD graphics 4000 is manually upgradable? or can be changed manually? and also the memory, is it upgradable? thanks!

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E531 Upgrade

Hi jinny and welcome to the community,

The graphics chip is part of the processor chip.  While the processor does look like it can be upgraded, you would probably still have to stay with the same line of processor chips (third generation Intel). The graphics would still be the same Intel 4000.

The ram can be upgraded, see page 66 of your Hardware Maintenance Manual. That will show where the chips are.

Dave

I bought my laptop Sept 1, 2013 and lately it has come up with the message "thermal sensing error" message. The laptop was plugged in and not even warm when I put it on. It takes a long time to load as well. I am worried about it overheating and damaging the motherboard. I understand that the warranty has ended but I need a response asap.

Answer:ThinkPad Edge E531 laptop

This error could occur for multiple reasons: 1) Malfunctioning fan - although "fan error" message is more often displayed, especially if fan fails to spin on boot.2) Poor heatsink to CPU contact - over time, thermal paste can dry up. If the system is out of warranty, you can try removing the fan & heatsink, clean away the dried thermal paste from CPU and heatsink, and apply artic silver and to the top of the CPU (a dab the size of a BB). re-install the CPU.3) Malfunctioning sensor in the system board - seek service. After checking fan is spinning momentarily at power on, try running Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox diagnostics on the system board - run memory, systemboard and GPU tests.Source: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T410-Thermal-Sensing-Error/ta-p/384209Contact tech support perhaps.

Hello.I recently ordered the Thinkpad Edge E531. My friend ordered it before me and hers arrived in the mail already. I had previously read online that this computer had an optional touch screen, however, when I saw my friend's it wasn't a touch screen. I'm wondering if there's a way to turn this on or if the computer is not actually a touch screen. Thanks.

Hi there, My sound isn't working, instead, on the volume control icon there is a red cross and it's telling me that no audio output device has been installed.  I removed the dolby and conexant sotfware from my laptop using the device manager, but the dolby advanced audio app is still on my control panel. In my device manager, under the 'sound, video and game controllers' tab, the only option I have is Intel(R) Display Audio. Please could someone tell me how to get my sound back!

Answer:Best SSD for Thinkpad Edge E530 and e531

Hi Osipr,

Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.

As I understand that you have query regarding upgrading SSD in your E530 and E531 laptops.
As per psref E531 supports SSD in some models: Solid State Drive (SSD) / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm high.

And following is the list of SSDs compatible with E531

04X0928  SSD            128G Samsung - Primary
04X0931  SSD            128G LiteOn - Secondary
04X4752  SSD            SATA 128G Samsung
04X4754  SSD            SATA 128G Lite-On

Source

And for E530 as per psref it only supports mSATA SSD in some models 16GB mSATA Solid State Drive (SSD), via PCIe Mini Card slot which is used for Cache for Lenovo Hard Disk Drive Performance Booster
Note ? Some model also come with SSD but that depends on location and for US only mSATA model is there.

And following is the list of mSATA drives compatible with E530

45N8331         mSATA 16GB SanDisk Cache
45N8375         mSATA 16GB Samsung Cache

Source

I hope the above information helped you.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Hello all,

I have bought a Edge E531 (N4I2HGE 68852H) and I want to upgrade to a SSD, in best case in addition to a HDD:

Besides the option of chaning the HDD to a SSD by using the S-ATA interface, I would like to know which other options exist.

During upgrading the RAM I found an additional interface not knowing what it is (maybe M.2?).

Link to picture

Images of M.2 SSDs look to0 long for my notebook!?

Does anybody knows which interfaces in addition to the S-ATA exist and can be used for a SSD.

Thanks

Hello, just received my new E531 Edge Thinkpad from Lenovo. Right now I'm not able to boot from CD, it will always boot into the preinstalled Windows 8. I've tried the F12 method to select a different boot device during startup where I can see the installed DVD RAM drive and select it, but no effect it returns immediately to the select screen. I've played around with the various BIOS setting disabling the secure boot option and changing the boot order so that the DVD drive is first. Then the system will check for the the CD (you can hear it spinning during start up) but will start into Windows 8 right afterwards again. I checked with various bootable CDs as well as DVDs but always same effect. What am I missing? Any other BIOS or Windows 8 settings I need to change for that. I have other Lenovo notebooks running like the X230, the T520 or an older T61 where booting from CD never seems to be an issue. As the DVD drive is working correctly within Windows 8 I assume that it is in general functioning and shouldn't be broken. Any help is very much appreciated! Many thanks in advance. Cheers...

Edit: I didn't realize how wordy this was till after I posted and looked at it! So here's a quick rundown.  Laptop keyboard isn't working properly. USB keyboard worked for a time then stopped working properly as well. Opening the onscreen keyboard restores fuctionality to the USB keyboard and partially to the laptop keyboard. Doing a complete system wipe and restoring to Lenovo settings didn't fix the issue.  This issue has progressed through different symptoms, so I will list them in the order they showed up. The first weird thing that started happening was keys not doing what they were supposed to. For example, when I hit H it would type several characters such as "efl." The E key would sometimes act like a command shortcut. Other keys didn't do anything at all. After this I hooked a USB keyboard to the laptop and at first, that worked fine. However, after the laptop went to sleep once and I woke it back up, the USB keyboard was also acting strangely, in much the same manner as described above. The onboard keyboard was still doing the same thing as well. I then restarted the laptop, and neither keyboard would hardly do anything at all. For some reason the E key on both keyboards would still act like it was hotkeyed to open some things, such as opening the edit function in word or my browser. After this I opened the onscreen keyboard, and it worked properly. For some reason, opening the onscreen keyboard and then closing it causes the ... Read more

I reinstalled driver, I can browse my phone from my ThinkPad, but if I want to send file from my phone, nothing is happened, telephone is waiting for user request (in Win 8 notebook asked me for receiving file). Hi, According to this page from Lenovo, DDR3 RAM will not work, only DDR3L, I tried a 2GB DDR3 and it wouldn't boot, possibly bad stick. But I thought that an Ivy Bridge system would accept DDR3 1.5V?? Only Haswell is limited to DDR3L, PS, my cpu is i3-3120M. Why doesn't the E531 accept DDR3 1.5v??? http://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/documents/ht080525 Regards Edit: Just got 8GB DDR3 stick, on my E531 I am mixing DDR3 and DDR3L without any issues, even running in dual channel Weird

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E531 DDR3 Not Compatible?

ddr3 on an intel cpu of the i series only works with 1.5v or lower, if the 2gb stick was not 1.35v then it will not work correct, this could be a limit on the motherboard and not the cpu itself

Answer:ThinkPad Edge E531 USB ports not working

I recommend reinstalling the usb drivers.  Win 7 will automatically reinstall these if you remove them.  There are some procedures on Microsoft's and Lenovo's sites.  It's a good idea to take a System Restore snapshot before doing this.  I also did a full disk backup just to be on the safe side. The drivers didn't turn out to be the problem (it was a bad cable) but the reinstallation went smoothly the second time (I screwed something up the first time, probably rebooted too quickly).  It takes a while for everything to be reinstalled.

Hi,I have a Thinkpad Edge E531 with 500GB HDD but I'd also like to have an SSD.There is an M.2 slot in the notebook and I'm thinking about putting a 120GB 2242 M.2 ssd in it. I've read in some  posts that it is possible to use it as a bootable device but I've also read in Lenovos User Guide that "If your computer is equipped with both a hard disk drive and an M.2 solid-state drive, you are not recommended to use the M.2 solid-state drive as a bootable device. The M.2 solid-state drive is designed and developed for the ?cache? function purpose only. If you use the M.2 solid-state drive as a bootable device, its reliability is not guaranteed."Does it mean that I shouldn't try it but I should exchange my HDD to a 2.5" SATA 3 SSD or will M.2 also work? And my other question is that I read that if a replace my optical drive with my HDD in an ODD box the system might will not be able to recognize the sata3 HDD if the optical drive was connected by sata2. but I couldn't figure out so far how my optical drive was connected. If I buy a 240GB SATA3 SSD, would it matter what brand it is? I read about some models that accept only Samsung for example. Thank you for your help.

Hello and welcome,

I don't have that specific laptop but the above verbiage has been around since the mSATA days.

The best I can figure is that it refers to the specific SSD shipped with the machine - if any.  The size and technology of the shipped cache SSD may not be suitable for use as a boot device.

Many of us use appropriately sized mSATA or m.2 SSDs (whichever fits the target laptop's SSD slot) that we've added as boot devices without problems.

Hi all, I've read a couple of postings but have not found a solution for my problem regarding an upgraded backlit keyboard for my E531 which shows no backlight. I installed the keyboard an connected the two flat cables to the mainboard. There is a lighting key marked on the left side of the space bar model type is KM BL-106D0, FRU is 04Y2399. Any ideas? DoI need to make some settings or adjustments? Hello everyone, I had an issue with my Thinkpad Edge Lenovo laptop about a month ago, as it couldn't turn on successfully (was showing a black screen only when the power button was pressed). As a result, due to the fact that my laptop was under warranty, I sent it to the Lenovo repair centre, where they replaced the motherboard and keyboard (this was shown on the repair sheet that was received along with the laptop). When I received my laptop, I realized that it was freezing every 1 second, which was very frustrating as I couldn't even move the mouse to where I wanted, and generally I wasn't able to perform any tasks at my laptop at all!As a result, I decided to replace my hard drive as I thought that maybe this was the problem. I bought an SSD hard drive, installed windows 10 on it and again the same problem exists! The laptop freezes intermittently every 1 second and I cannot actually do anything on it! My warranty expires in 5 days and I am really worried. Is there anything I can try to do on my laptop to fix this issue?Or shall I try ringing Lenovo again? Thanks a lot

Here we've got a Thinkpad Edge E531. Sometimes something happens (idk what) and the screeen shows white noise (as shown in the picture) instead of what it has to show. If I suspend the laptop and then resume back, most of the time it'll be ok (some cases were reported that it didn't work too, I think so, my sister said) and it happens regardless of the OS type. Tried Arch Linux, Ubuntu and Windows 7. happens on all of them. of course I found another solution to solve the problem on linux, but I'm not sure, maybe by changing the tty by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F2.  It doesn't happen frequently, but occasionally. I mean it may not happen during 2 weeks but suddenly 6 times in 24h.  Picture: http://oi62.tinypic.com/20t5dtj.jpgA newer one: http://oi58.tinypic.com/331dqph.jpg Any idea what the problem is?

I'm not a technical person and sorry I don't know all the terms. I'm really, really hoping someone can help me get this touchpad under control...it's driving me crazy!!! I've been a Lenovo/IBM laptop fan for years and this has been my least favorite model by far. I use the Pointing stick to move the cursor on the screen and the touchpad only for clicking. I've tried different settings with this touchpad and none of them are good. I miss the separate left and right click buttons on the previous models. This one has the rectangular touchpad and you have to click it in the PERFECT spot on the left or right or it won't do what you want. Sometimes I have to hit it witha little force to get it to acknowledge I am trying to left or right click. I'm going to end up break it. The worse issue (and I hope someone knows what to do here) is the browser keeps shutting down if I accidentally move the cursor to the top/right corner and sweep through that area. I'm using the pointing stick to move the cursor and just laying my hand slightly on the rouchscreen (but applying NO pressure) and it shuts down whatever webpage I'm reading if the cursor accidentally moves over into that corner. It happens at least once a day, then I have to open a new browser and locate the site I was on.  I'm tempted to think the touchscreen is set to a sensitive setting and that's the problem BUT I have hit the touch screen with a little force to get it to right or left click. So I don't think c... Read more

I recently upgraded my ThinkPad edge e531 to Windows 10 pro and followed the suggestions to upgrade my bios to help with compatiblity issues. After updating to the latest bios(lenovo driver update)my computer no longer recognizes my AC adapter. Now my battery is almost drained and I don't know what to do to fix this problem.  I  have tried removing the battery and pressing the power button 10 times...no help. I have removed the CMOS battery for 30 minutes...no help. The computer isn't charging at all and my battery is about dead. Can anybody offer some solution to my problem. I have also tried multiple AC adapters. Thanks

Memory upgrade is supposed to be very simple on the unit. After approx 18 months of ownership I decided to add memory. The bottom memory slot works fine and had been in operation with the stock 4gig stick. I added an 8 gig Crucial stick that was a verified choice to the top slot, using the lenovo instructions and a video for my unit (E531). It didn't register the new addition, and during install, I noted the top slot (the little brackets/rails at the outsides) looks slightly different than one in the youtube video (for that exact model) and other pics, like on the lenovo site. While the memory stick will slide in and lock (click) at the top, it doesn't register with my Windows 7 OS and it looks like the side tabs of the assembly aren't "right." I stopped, went to a local qualified tech store, and the owner who was familiar with Lenovo product (spoke well of them) called it "odd" and tried moving the new 8 gig stick to the bottom and the old 4gig to the top. The result was the 8 gig stick now showed fine, but not the 4 gig. So it seems there's something off with the top slot, and I don't know if it's an odd unit or what. It had been sent to Lenovo before undr warranty for an optical drive repair (Jan 2014 # A06RWZ3). The factory warranty is now expired. Any input from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Problem with upper memory slot in Thinkpad Edge E531

Rather than delete my now-resolved issue, I'll describe what I did in case someone esle runs into it--- Now keep in mind (see original post) that an experienced tech went through the process without finding what I found after deciding to "go at it one more time" (very focused but calm) but being firmly of a mind that this should really work easy enough, too: The "odd" look of the upper slot, and the seemingly proper amount of "slide and click and lock" of both old and new stick into the top slot were misleading. With notably more of a push forward (to me an uncomfortable amount) with the stick itno the top slot, I got a slightly more substantial "click and lock" and the position/ and ook of the top side rails is closer to what's in the video and pics (though still seems a little different, best I can see). But this situation may not even be representative of every unit. Anyhoo, both sticks in both slots are recognized by the OS now, and what the heck, after owning this thing for this long it's probaly good I finally joined.

Hello, Mid June last year (The 22nd to be exact) I bought a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E531 for my study. Aside from some questionable design chooses (why on earth does the screen touch the keyboard when the lid is closed?) Did everything work like intended. With all power saving features active (lowered CPU clock speed, 50hz screen refresh rate .etc) I could get around 5 hours of battery while casually browsing the web or while doing some light gaming. Now, Almost 9 months later, Is it a miracle if I can get even 2 hours of battery life with the same usage and power saving features. Even while idling at the desktop is the avarage battery life around 3 hours at best. I find that having the battery life reduced by half in under a year time rather quick. Even if I use the thing almost everyday.I initially thought that it might have something to do with how the laptop is nearly always connected to the wall outlet. So I decided to use the battery utility that comes with the laptop to re-calibrate the battery. But this gave no improvement. I also checked if there were any programs running that could cause this but neither I nor my malware scanners could find a possible culprit. You might say it's because of poor usage because I use the laptop mostly while the charger is connected and rarely let the battery fully discharge before recharging it (although I usually use it until Windows goes into hibernation once every week) . But even if this would be true (I can't really find any prove... Read more

All, I recently purchased a ThinkPad E531 together with a OneLink dock. The laptop appears to be working just fine. Currently running Windows 8 64 bit. However, the OneLink dock is giving some problems: First of all, the HDMI connection, network interface and USB 3.0 ports seem to be working fine, but... - the audio interface is not working nor is it recognized by Windows (currently I have a simple speakerset connected, but headphones didn't work either and uninstalling / reinstalling the Conextant audio drivers didn't solve the problem). - None of the USB 2.0 ports on the dock are working (they do appear to have power as the light on my WD Passport is blinking when connected). The USB ports on the laptop itself work fine. - When connecting a non-USB 3.0 device to the USB 3.0 ports also these DO NOT work (keyboard, mouse, external HDD with external power, USB stick, none of these) - The OneLink dock tray icon briefly appears when booting showing a status that the dock is not connected (Windows device overview however shows it with status connected through USB 3.0). I've tried removing all USB devices through the Windows deivce manager and reinstalling, updating / reinstalling drivers etc. etc.  I suspect it's either a driver problem or even potentially a hardware issue. Any help / suggestions would be appreciated!

Answer:OneLink USB 2.0 ports and audio not working with ThinkPad Edge E531

I'm having similar problems with the ThinkPad Yoga and OneLink Pro Hub. Ethernet and external video work fine.  Can't get keyboard or mouse to be recognized when plugged into the OneLink Hub.  They work fine when plugged into the Yoga itself. When I look at "Devices and Printers", I see "Problem detected with Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).   Details show:Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)A request for the USB device descriptor failed. When I look at the Driver info for "Unknown USB Device" - the driver version is 6.3.9600.16442 with a Device Date of 6/21/2006.  Seems hard to believe that a 2006 driver would be the right one.  But when I attempt to update the driver it says I have the most up to date version.

I'm working on a ThinkPad Edge E531, I've just swapped out the hard drive for an SSD and done a clean install of Win 10 Pro 64 bit Anniversary Update and installed the Intel Chipset Device Software (Inf). All has gone well except that the computer keeps freezing momentarily and in the Windows System Event log every time this occurs there's a Disk warning followed by a storeahci warning ("Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued" Event ID 129 ) at the same time as the freezing occurs. On checking Device Manager I can see that the Intel 7 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller hasn't been installed, I believe this is normally installed by the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver. When I go to Lenovo Drivers & Software downloads for my model and choose Windows 10 64 bit there is only an old (2013) version of the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver available for download. When I run this it appears to run through OK but doesn't register in Programs and Features and doesn't install the Intel 7 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller so I still have the problem, even when run in compatibility mode for Win 8.I've tried another Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver from the Lenovo website and this doesn't work either and I've downloaded version 14.8.0.1042 from the Intel website but this faults on install with a This Platform Is Not supported error. Can anyone suggest a way ahead?

Hello,With my previous Thinkpad X61s I was able to press Fn key and use some alpha keys as a numeric keypad but with my new Thinkpad X1 there is no such feature. I have some applications which do require the use of numeric keypad (note that the keycodes received by the OS are not the same if the normal numeric keys are used). Please, do not suggest to plug an external USB keypad or keyboard, that's, of course, a solution (which I don't like at all). Anyone has some suggestion to overcome this problem somehow? Thanks!Kind regardsBoyan

Answer:Numeric Keypad (on Fn+alpha keys) missing on Thinkpad X1 and Thinkpad Edge

As you are experiencing Fn+ alpha numeric keys are not working, I would suggest you to please update the Power Manager software and also update the Bios of your system from the below mentioned web link.

After this, please restart the system and check if the issue resolved.

My brother got this laptop as a gift but it stopped booting after a few uses, it will just show the name and say press enter to interrupt boot, I do not know if it's his motherboard or not and would like to know what is up with his laptop. Some suggestions would help as to how I can fix this or get help in fixing it, only recently has he asked and it's been months since it stopped so some help would be appreciated. Also I should mentioned i've never used a thinkpad before.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Edge will not boot at all

It's pretty difficult to guess what might be wrong without some testing/investigation. The fact that you see a splash screen suggests that the motherboard's video and bios is working. If you are so inclined you could... Press on ON buttom and immediately press F12. Note - you must be pressing 'Fn' button at the lower left when pressing the F12.  This should get to the Boot device list.  If you have a bootable DVD, say from a OS try seeing if the DVD drive works.  If so, chances are there is a problem with your hard disk.  Maybe just a connector or maybe a failed drive. At that point you could remove the back cover and unseat/reseat the drive connector and see it that helps. It could also just be a necessary file in the Windows boot process is corrupted.  The thinkpad has multiple features to allow recovery such as factory recovery disks, Onetouch backup/restore, etc.  Of course, you have to apply those fairly soon after getting the computer. If any of this sounds confusing, then maybe finding a tech to look at it is a better idea. Hope this helps some.

But you need to know few things before you take a decision to install the non-lenovo product. Any functionally equivalent product, program, or service that does not infringe any Lenovo intellectual property right may be used instead. However, it is your responsibility to evaluate and verify the operation of any other product, program, or service.

Regarding the OS installation in SSD, OS will only boot up faster with a solid-state drive. That being said, if you perform any operating system related task that needs to retrieve data from the drive, it will be much faster than if your OS was on the HDD. That being said, if you only care about loading subsequent programs (or logistically prefer keeping your OS separate), you can easily keep the SSD as a secondary drive, only using it for certain programs/tasks. The whole point of a solid-state drive is to decrease application loading times

Please let us know, whether the above steps helped you.
Thank you, have a good day.

I have very idiotically deleted the Q:/ partition on my hard drive, but I do have 2 recovery disks and one labeled "BOOT DISK" that launches the R&R program. Problem is though, it says that it cannot find a backup when I want to restore to factory settings. How can I reinstall windows 7 now, without ordering a set of disks from lenovo?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 14" R&R Problem

are these the disc you created using create product recovery disc if so one should be startup disc , OS disc, apps & drivers disc

Answer:lenovo thinkpad edge E520

is your adapter a 34 mm expresscard? if it is then it should work, as long as it supports the operating system that you have.

I am presently researching to purchase a laptop for my wife at Christmas who is a teacher thus she will need to access the internet, do Office work, grading, emails, research, etc., but no gaming at all.

Will be running 7 64 OS, with 4 gigs of RAM, and hopefully a 7200 rpm hd. Leaning towards the i5 processor.

The Thinkpad Edge is part of Lenovo's excellent T Series but somewhat less expensive. Looking at current configurations it seems it will deliver what I am looking for but I know nothing of the quality build.

Would love to hear back from people who have used this series and/or from ITs who repair laptops for their insights.

Thanks!

I couldn't be less satisfied. I bought this from newegg.com, new in the box, for a work laptop. I'm a real estate agent and forty agents work in my office. Some of them use Lenovo products, which are working fine. I got the laptop out of the box on 9/28/12 and when trying to connect to the wireless at work, it keeps connecting briefly, then dropping the connection. I called service and got a case number. They tried to remote in and take over to see what the problem was, but couldn't. We went through Thinkvantage to reset to the factory settings. After that, the unit wouldn't even recognize that there was a network to connect to! They sent me a box last week to return it to service center in Atlanta. Tracking of the package was easy and they sent it back with a page showing the parts they replaced:  WLAN card and WIFI were corrected. Connected wirelessly again this morning. Same problem. Won't stay connected! So I called to speak again to service today, they tried to remote into my computer to fix it, but it wouldn't stay connected long enough to even remote into it! They said they'd replace it...gave me the ph# for sales. 1-866-428-4465. This is a call center in India. They tell me they cannot honor the warranty there, to call Lenovo Partners Network at 1-877-536-9955. I did, Matt at that number was nice, but he said I have to call newegg, have THEM call him to get a DOA form, so they can send me a replacement. Honestly...I would rather buy something OTHER... Answer:Two weeks, and I've yet to be able to use my NEW Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 15

Oh, I should point out that I got it BACK from the service center just this morning and took it in to the office to try it. It hasn't worked a day in its short life. I see other information online about difficulty connecting wirelessly. Is this a common issue? Maybe there's a setting I need to do something with that will keep this from happening? If you know something I don't, please share...Lorie

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 11" Screen

welcome to the community.

if you download your Hardware Maintenance Manual
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/75y6925_03.pdf
have a look at pg94, the last block of the grid. it lists 4 possible part numbers for your pc:
04W137904W045004W04510A66647

these may help you to source a panel and other needed parts.
the manual, itself, should help should you choose to do the repair yourself.

hope this helps.

I recently bought a Lenovo thinkpad edge 11 with the core i3 380um and windows 7 64bt HP, the NVYGMH model. I updated the ram from 2gb to 4gb. I used a Kingston valueRam 2gb 1066mhz DDR3 soDIMM. Since i first used it, it has been very slow. Sometimes it runs great the first few minutes but then you see the visual effects of windows 7 start to feel sluggish, and the performance of the system goes down. I did run the tas manager, when its slow cpu usage is constantly around the 25 percent. I updated all the drivers and installed a new bios. I tried two different virus scanners. Avira and Avast. I also tried two different browsers but the problem still excist. The only software on the notebook i installed is dropbox, a virus scanner and firefox. Some websites give me little problems but some are really slow, like facebook. Also some (not all)  youtube movies seem to be corrupt, i get weird colors. I think it is something with the videocard. But the driver is up to date. Also the startup of the lenovo toolbox and power manager is really slow, but maybe thats normal. I am not sure what to do next, so i hope someone can help me, at this moment my notebook gives me a mixe feeling. I really like the build quality and how it looks an what it can do, but most of the times it feels slower than my old atom n270 notebook.

Answer:New Lenovo thinkpad edge 11 is very slow.

Do you have two antiviruses installed? That'd be a very bad thing to do.If not, try doing a total restore to factory, running ThinkVantage System Update, then Windows Update, and use it for a while before installing any other software.

I have a ThinkPad 431 with Windows 7 the BIOS  turned on for always on.I switched on the USB option always on in lenovo utility. Thinkpad has 3 USB ports, two on the left and one on the right. The one on the right works when the thinkpad is in hibernation. The left ones don't. When thinkpad is on, all ports charge. Is this by design or is there a problem with my Thinkpad unit. I really realy need two ports for charging.

Answer:ThinkPad Edge 431 Powered USB charging at only one port when thinkpad is in hibernate

I should mention that I don't have any yellow USB port. Neither the left or the right ones have yellow.

Hi everyone, I'm wanting to buy a new laptop and currently deciding between this ThinkPad Edge E540 (479 Euros) and this refurbished ThinkPad T420 (299 Euros) I'll be using this almost exclusively for working with audio (music production, DJing, recording & listening to music) and almost nothing else - I run Ableton and Traktor which are quite CPU-heavy so the processor is quite important.Whichever I bought I would be taking the DVD drive out and putting in a SSD for the OS and my programs, and I would also be adding an extra 4GB of RAM.I don't have much money at the moment so the 180 Euros I'd save by buying the refurb would be very appreciated, however I really don't want to compromise the speed/lifespan of my laptop.---So my question is, how much do you think a 3-4 year old T420 (which from what I understand are one of the best laptops ever made) would compare to a brand new Edge E540 in terms of speed, and which do you think would last longer?---Thanks in advance for your input.

So there's a huge thread, set to sticky as many people have had trouble with their touchpads turning off, quite randomly at that.  It's a wonder Lenovo hasn't got the point and fixed it yet.  Anyway, NONE of the solutions worked for me.  Except one guy mentioned something, and I realized he was completely right!. What I did try:Turn on and off the touchpad to reset it.Install a new Synaptics Touchpad driver.Write customer support.Did a little chant, dance, and jig.No luck  What WorkedI relized that it was hardware, and the guy had mentioned how he had a loose connection.  When I press down pretty hard on the mouspad, and/or keyboard, it generally starts working again. (with full palm for most surface area, as I'm still not quite sure exactly where that point of contact is).  I took apart my laptop, and didn't have much luck fixing it.  Partly because I wasn't able to easily access the connection between the touchpad and motherboard (I'm using the edge e420.  On my r52, that connnection was easy to access.)  And I couldn't confirm that the connection between the keyboard and motherboard was entirely unrelated.  Anyway, I need to look at the manuals and figure out how to get to that connection, but for now, pressing down on the touchpad/keyboard does the trick.  "What it comes to computers, anything its possible.  It's just a matter of how."

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Edge Touchpad - Not working

I feel like my head is going to explode.  I've searched the forum and read what seems like hundreds of complaints about the touchpad not working on the Thinkpad Edge.  I've had my Thinkpad E420 for a week and the touchpad does not work but the pointer device does . . .  I don't mind updating or installing . . . whatever. . . . but it seems that this had been unsuccessful most of the time.  I'm a 50-something year old woman who is fairly computer-savvy (so I thought).  I researched laptops for two months before I bought -- came down to the Lenovo and Toshiba.  I picked the Lenovo b/c of what I hoped would be good durability.  My hubby said take it back to the store (I have about a week left to do this).  He is an HP computer-person (I don't care for HP).  All things considered, if I could have afforded it,  I would have bought a Mac   Is there anything new with this problem or am I'm just going to fall into the same rabbit hole as everyone else?  Thx.

The adaptor is connected, the computer is turned on and it says: 'connected, not charging' and suddenly it just dies (when it hit 0%). However when the computer is turned off it charges without a problem. When I connect it to the adaptor and the pc is turned on it charges for 5 seconds and then it goes to 'connected, not charging'- mode. I have read through some other post suggesting to remove the battery - however the I have to remove the keyboard and other stuff as well, so I was looking for a simpler solution. Can you help me?

Hello,
I know my computer (Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E420) can run Windows 10 as it states that in the Windows 10 Program. I was wondering if Lenovo released all the drivers(32-bit) that i would need properly run Windows 10. I have gone to Lenovo's website and looked at the drivers for my computer but I am unsure if they have released all of them. Could you please Help.
Will Windows 10 Run properly without the Lenovo Windows 10 Video Drivers and Audio Drivers?
Thanks

When I access a website in MS Edge - like eBay - and want to delete an item in my watch list, eBay presents me for a message box, for me to confirm the removal by OK or Cancel. That window starts to flicker transparently. It only stops when I place the mouse pointer on the OK button. When I remove the pointer it starts flickering again.I have swept the Internet in effort to find a useful solution.Windows 10 and MS Edge is running on my Thinkpad.I hope someone could help - I have spent hours running in circles. Thanks, AndersPS. I forgot to mention that I am unable to reproduce the problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer (11) and Google Chrome!I know I could just use one on mentioned browsers but I would truly like to get to the bottom of this issue.

Well I just got a Lenovo E420, and I just wanted to make sure these temperatures are fine. Its a i7-2640m, 6gb ram with AMD Mobility Radeon HD 6630  swtichable graphics. When I turn it on and open the temp monitor (HWMonitor), nothing else open, except for all the other possible lenovo stuff that opens at start up, the temperature of the two cores is around 54-55 degrees, in a 10 minute period it has ranged from 44-61. This is on battery btw, no ac adaptor plugged in. After about 10 minutes, still no programs opened except monitor, it seems temperature of core 1 is about 50 and core 2 about 46. Are these temperatures OK? Also I will let you know on the temperatures when I am actually doing something and should I use something to stress out the CPU and test the temperatures? If so, What should I use? Also I can hear this noise, I don't think it is the fan but something else, sort of like a long beeping noise, not very loud but can still hear it and when i put the laptop close to my ear, can clearly hear it? What could this be? the hard drive?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E420 Temperatures

Well I think these temps might be normal, but just making sure? so any comments on the first post would be appreciated. I just have a few other questions about cleaning the laptop/keeping it clean as I get a bit OCD about small scratches and stuff. I understand that after a while because of wear especially on the palm rests, there will be some discoloration since they are matte surfaces? So whats the best way to prevent this, also about small scratches(really just discolorations) which there already seems to be some little ones which I have no idea as to how those happened (as i said i can get a bit OCD about this stuff), can you clean them? So basically whats the best way to prevent/clean scratches/discolorations on the matte surfaces especially palm rests, touch pad and cover?

So, after 4 or 5 years the fan on my Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E525 (1200US model, if I recall correctly) is no longer spinning. Before I order any replacement parts, though, I wanted to make sure that I can replace just the fan no matter what or if I would have to get the whole HSF assembly. I'd rather not have to disassemble the laptop twice.

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E525 Fan Replaceable

Welcome to the forum!

After 4/5 years I would rather recommend you to replace the whole assembly instead of the fan only, it's also highly advisable to replace the thermal compound, cleaning the old one and re-applying a good thermal paste like Artic Silver 5/Artic Cooling MX2/Artic Cooling MX4.

To replace the fan you have to do a quite amount of disassembly, shouldn't be a problem if you follow the hardware maintenance manual (HMM), which can be downloaded from here: click me!

I have tried going to F11 reset but it doesn't work, when booting up it " To interrupt normal setup press, ENTER" but when I press ENTER and F11 nothing happens. It has the original OS and going to the BIOS I wasn't able to find the restore option. Is the only option creating a recovery disk/USB and if so where can I find the files necessary.

Hello everybody, I have a few questions about the Thinkpad E145. It is sold in Germany without Windows 7/8/8.1 being pre-installed, and it costs about 150? less than the model with Windows 8. As I will install Linux on it anyways, I'd prefer to buy it without any OS, but here is my problem : as I live in France, I'm used to the French keyboard layout, and although I did a lengthy research on the Internet, I couldn't find any French website selling the E145 without Windows 7/8. Therefore, I have a few questions : - Is the E145 without any OS-model sold in France ? - Can you change the keyboard of the E145 without too much trouble and replace it with a French layout ? - Will the E145 with the A4-5000 processor also be available without Windows 7/8 ? - Does Lenovo refund the Windows 8 licence if you ask for it ? (Lenovo was sued some years ago in France for not doing so, I wonder if things have changed since...) Thank you very much for any answer that could help ! Alexander
