I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello again, I know I haven't posted in a while, but I have a computer problem. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad W500 running Windows 7 Home Premium, and I recently cleaned out the hard drive. I reinstalled the operating system and last night, the battery charged 100%, and a few hours ago, when I plugged the charging charging cord into the computer and turned the computer on, and the computer said the battery was at 5% charge, plugged in but not charging. (P.S. I installed the itunes 64 setup file to set itunes back up again.) The computer said that there were problems with the battery and I should consider getting a new battery. The charging cord is plugged into the computer, and I intend to have the charging cord plugged into the computer overnight. Should I? And what site or store should I go to to get a new battery? Do I need a new charging cord? Or is there is a way to solve it without getting a new charging cord ot battery? Any help would be greatly appeeciated.

Hello Guys, Since I couldn't find any solution for my problem, I decided to write here, hoping that someone (either from team Lenovo or from the users) have the same problem and therefore can help me. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 13 model (version 0217). (I bought it from a friend, since it was not shipped anymore when I decided to buy it.)I have problems with my battery. The design capacity of it is 62.12 Wh, I used it wisely, so it wasn't always charged up to 100%. I always discharge it down around 5-7% and then plug in the AC adapter. (See image.)  My first problem is that in the last 3 months, the capacity is gone down to 45.88 Wh and I can't really figure out why. Can this be a generic problem with the battery? My second problem is - for which I've found another topic here but it didn't help me - that when I charge the battery, charging stops at 99%, showing "3 minutes is remaining" and if I unplug and replug the adapter, it stops as 99% saying it is fully charged. In the battery maintenance, I changed the settings from "Always fully charge" to Custom, but still, it won't charge up the battery fully.  My third problem is that I updated the BIOS of my laptop some days ago and when I try to search for a battery firmware update or when I do a battery gauge reset, the system suddenly shuts down without any warning or whatever. I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this, I really love my laptop but it really bugs me..... Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 13 (0217) battery problem

1) Battery do wear out eventually, you already have 234 cycles on the battery. So the battery capacity drop in the latter part of the cycles count is quite normal. It is nature of these battery to wear out. 2) For thinkpads, this behaviour is quite normal, this helps to prevent unnecessary wear on the battery cell. Once you use your battery back to say 95% or so, it will recharge back to 100%. 3) Are you saying that your laptop no longer works or that it intermittently shuts down?

So I got myself the Lenovo ThinkPad W510 the other day, specific model being "431929G", along with it I got myself a 9-cell battery instead of the included 6-cell as well as this additional "slice battery" solutions which you attach at the bottom of the computer using the docking port it seems? The box which this slice battery came in was marked model 57Y4545, the piece of battery inside however says FRU: 42T4739? I guess and hope it's the same thing?  It does attach to the bottom of my W510 without any issues whatsoever, I lock it in place so I get that green indicator which should mean it's supposed to function? But it doesn't.. ThinkVantage Power Manager do pick up the battery but it's just standing there at 12% battery with no activity? Even after the main 9-cell is fully charged it wont start to charge the slice battery? I did even remove the main 9-cell in order to see whether or not that would change anything, but it didn't? And if I remove the power cord when running only the slice battery the W510 will just drop dead? So it's not charging, neither is it providing my W510 with any more battery life? It just sits the with 12% battery with no activity whatsoever, no charging or usage at all?

Answer:ThinkPad Battery 27++ (9cell) 57Y4545 wont work with my Lenovo ThinkPad W510?

Are you sure you're running the latest power manager? I.e., have you updated all the system drivers, os drivers, bios, etc.?

unfortunately the answer is no, but you can get an ultrabay bay battery, that fits in your ultrabay slot, it should add around 1 to 1.5 hours to your battery life.

I have a Lenovo X230, running Kubuntu 14.04. When I disconnect the slice battery at the bottom the system resets, it's very annoying. What's worse is that it seems like jostling the system, also can cause it to power cycle. I don't really have a need to remove the slice battery very often, but essentially if I put the laptop into standby, and put it in by laptop knapsack, the system is off after I get where I'm going. Thoughts? I saw somewhere that allegedly, when you unlock the battery, some thinkpad utility gets notified to switch the power, I wonder if the hotplug is a software only solution, and not doable in standby. Steve Ramage

Batteries are warrantied for one year, so run (don't walk) to your nearest Lenovo support center.  Or call Lenovo. You can look up your exact warranty status on Lenovo's website.

Hello, I'm having some poor battery performance  on my Thinkpad 13 (~4 hours average battery life). I've used the lenovo application and found that my battery still has its full capacity/capability. I often run my 13 on the 'power saver' battery option. I'm also often having issues with significant battery drain even while the laptop is in 'sleep' mode.  Does anyone have any suggestions for these issues?  I am considering upgrading my battery, though I'm not sure which battery to buy--which batteries are compatibe and which ones would give me a significantly longer battery life. I don't wanna back to Windows 7, because I like new OS without any lag and problem. Not long ago I read about 9-cell battery and want to buy it. But where? Which store or place do you recommend for buying? And I know, that batteries capacity may go down because of time (laptop sales have begun in 2011). Should I buy new 9-cell battery? Or just forget about it and continuing using my old 6-cell?Thank you for replies!

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad E420. 9-Cell Battery.

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Capacity of a battery declines as the battery ages, with the number of charge cycles and time at high temperature. Under average usage patterns your battery maintains approximately 70% of its power capacity after the first year of operation.

If you feel that the battery backup is too low, try doing a battery firmware upgrade and BIOS update. Check the Lenovo support site for any battery firmware updates for your particular model.

Refer this knowledgebase which explains some tips to improve battery backup.

Still if you feel like getting a battery replacement, I would suggest you to contact Lenovo technical support. I'm sure they would be of great help.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

It looks like the problem is pretty the same as with "Ideapad Z400 or Z500 battery will not charge - plugged in not charging". My battery worked fine when the OS was Vista , Windows 8, but after windows 8.1 installation it was "plugged but no charging". I already have reinstalled the windows, nothing happened. I tried to install the same firmware as Z500, but it isn't work. Lenovo Solution Center displays battery as "Battery software not installed". Downloading and running Settings Dependency Package does not help. Lenovo Issues Battery Recall for ThinkPad Laptops

Lenovo has issued a recall for several of its ThinkPad models because of various battery issues. You can download a tool from the Lenovo website to find out if the ThinkPad you own is one of the affected laptops.

A limited number of ThinkPad users have reported the following symptoms: Irreparable damage or battery cannot be charged error message from Power Manager or Message Center, or Low battery capacity, as indicated by short battery run time or sudden drops in the battery fuel gauge.

Good afternoon all,

I have been in the process of making my laptop, a Lenovo Thinkpad T410, a much better device to use. While I've been having HDD issues, my main issue right now is the battery that I had purchased. With the IBM Power Manager software, the battery is listed as a Sanyo 42T4710. It is a 9 cell battery and I will provide any other information you need.

When I had first purchased the device, after charging for awhile the battery icon on the laptop would begin to flash amber. It will not charge to 100%, and usually stops at 96%. With the battery manager, the charge threshold is set to "Always Full Charge (Start when below 96% and end at 100%). I tried to run the battery gauge reset option, however the laptop permanently stayed at 96% and never discharged lower than that.

Are there any recommendations that you can make for what I should do with the battery?

Thanks!

Hey there shiv309,

There is an excellent thread by CT809, that led to a solution for this very problem.

Re-installed Lenovo Settings Dependency Package and the Power Management Driver, then when I rebooted and went into Lenovo Settings, this option popped up. Ensure that its placed to "fully charge".

As your battery FRU number is mentioned in the firmware update list, so you battery model is not effected with this issue.

You can perform the calibration process to increase the battery backup and also update the BIOS.

I received my Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2gen (i7, OLED). Unfortunately the CPU usage is constantly around 30% (reaching up to 100%), the fan is on all the time and the battery is empty in 2 hours. The main reasons for the high CPU usage are the following three programmes:- Sophos web intelligence (which I have to have installed according to my employer)- WMI provider host (I tried deinstalling it, but then I can no longer access the network drives)- Synaptics TouchPad 64-bit EnhancementsAny ideas what I could do to solve the issue? Thanks!

Hi there, I am after few laptops and Thinkpad W530 tops my list - beating Elitebooks and Precisions in the process. I am after the top spec and a Quad-Core is a must (virtualisation + some heavy development). What makes me worried though is the reported CPU throttling issue of W530 that occurs while laptop runs on battery power (unplugged from AC) only - all the way down to seriously low 1.2Ghz! Happens when the discreet NVIDIA card is on. I can understand physics behind it as there might be not enough output wattage left to drive K1000 (35Watts) or K2000 (45Watts) but those kepler GPUs are still a far cry from 100Watts GTX680 present in some (though some 17inch) laptops with very little throttling happening. New quad core retina Macbook pro with its 45W GT 650M graphics card exhibits no serious throttling issue whatsoever while on battery - proof it can be done. Only as an example though, retina Macbook is no good for me. I wouldn?t mind bit of it say to 2-2.2Ghz still keeping the GPU and full power and active but to throttle the CPU down to some entry level ULV 1.2Ghz I find quite outrageous - as reason to consider laptop in the first place (dashing Elitebooks for instance) is portability and ability to work on the go purely on the battery power (whether battery lasts for 2 hours or for 5 hours would not matter much, hibernate swap the batteries all of this with SSD is less than a minute). 1.) Is there a way around this? Forcing 3rd party BIOS and... Read more

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad W530 CPU throttling issue while on battery power - few questions or any solution?

It depends on the configuration of the cells in the battery pack. Those laptops generally have more cells (like a 12-cell pack), likely wired to allow for such loads at the cost of battery life. AFAIK, the 9-cell will also throttle.Supposedly, you can use ThrottleStop to counter the throttling, but do so at your own risk and all that jazz. Nevertheless, if you plan to impart such a drain on the battery pack often, expect to replace it within one or two years.

There is nothing on the Internet that I found to document the exact process to remove and replace the internal battery on the Twist. So, wen the battery died on my Twist I video taped ow I did it. I made some mistakes, read the description, but I am creating this post on it now, I have an operational battery and the computer seems no worse for the amateur wear. This is not a video series that is endorsed by anyone nor should it be a replacement for professional service. Do not attempt! Do not consume. Recycle as your state and country law's dictate. I purchased 4 of these for my company in December 2011 and today have had to arrange for the 3rd one to be returned to Lenovo with the same problem.  The battery stops charging and will not hold charge and will not run unless powered into ac supply. The laptop will then not power on at all, completely dead no lights / sounds etc and when returned the previous 2 they have replaced the motherboard and have had no problems since. Even though have had this problem with 2 of the others Lenovo Technical Support have still said have to return it at my expense which because of the data included on it have had to return special delivery costing Ģ25 a time. They are returned withuin 7 days but think there may be a problem as this is a 75% failure rate. Anybody else had this problem as is putting me off buying anymore?

Since you got the machine In December then this maybe the case, as some batch of these machines were affected by the EEPROM issues.

Hi,
Sorry if someone had answered this question before but I'm new here.
I have an IBM ThinkPad T22 and recently experienced this strange problem: The battery works alright but it doesn't charge even though the LED blinking as if it is being charged and when the system was poweroff and I unplugged the AC adapter then the LED indicating battery was still lit although it was supposed to turn off. To really turn that LED off I had to remove the battery pack. I discharged the battery completely and it's not charged any more
(0% charged) and now I have to use my laptop as if it is a desktop (with power plugged all the time). I would be grateful if you have any suggestion since I believe that the battery is still working pretty well.

Hi, I own a 2 year old ThinkPad X220. Till a few days ago, I used to get 3 hours battery backup on my laptop. A couple of days ago, my laptop battery dropped to 5% very soon. Then, it would charge upto 100% in 15 miinutes. I tried to do a battery gauge reset using Lenovo power management tool. Since then, my battery has been on 0%. I tried to do the trick of removing battery and AC power and pressing the power button for 10 seconds, but it didn't work.Since my laptop runs fine on AC, I dont think it is the fault of the power cord. Also, I run a dual boot with Ubuntu 14.04 and Windows 7, so it is unlikely to be an OS problem. Now, when I plug in the AC adapter with battery, the charging light falshes green thrice and after about 5-6 seconds, it flashes orange twice and green once, after which the light goes off.Is my battery really dead or is it my system's fault? Please advise me what to do.Thanks in advance for the help.

My brand new ThinkPad E531 with Windows 7 from minute one told me the battery was not supported.  (a Lenovo 75+)  I played with it taking it out and replacing it a few times then it charged up.  Ever since then it's "plugged in and not charging"  I've read another post and tried the ACPI.  It didn't help.  It's already running Settings Dependency and I've re-installed the OS twice.   I'm tied to the wall socket as the battery goes down but not up. Anyone with some ideas?  PS I tried to get into the 1 800 number and was disconnect twice in under 30 seconds after being asked which machine I needed help with.  Local service centers don't carry the batteries for E531's.

I have the exact same problem, battery health indicator was around 85 percent, but suddenly battery stopped working, saying "plugged in not charging" and a warning message which says battery is dead because of normal wear (after less than 9 months of usage), contacted Lenovo support, no help on phone. If I remove the charger laptop power stops, and it seems battery stopped functioning and is stuck at 47 percent. It should be a defect in battery chip or PM module (or even a software problem!), but I couldn't find any useful information.Could you solve your problem?

Hi! I have just bought a Thinkpad Yoga (core i5, 8GB, 500Gb HDD). Battery life is around 3 hours using only internet an office applications. Every review said it would be more than 5 hours. What can be the problem? Thanks in advance!

Answer:Battery problem on Thinkpad Yoga

Most power is used by the display.

Try to set up a power saving scheme with only necessary things powered on and lower the display brightness to improve the battery backup.

Refer this knowledgebase which explains some tips to improve battery backup.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hy!I've used my Thinkpad T420 battery charge mode with custom settings: Start charging when below 95% and Stop charging at 99%. Because the battery effectively has never charged full, it cause sudden capacity decreases (for example from 30% discharging to 7%). I got bored to this and changed to automatically optimize battery lifespan. I noticed that every full charge the "Full charge capacity" value decreases. I have charged it 5 times after this settings, and the remaining capacity looks like this: 57.10Wh, 57.05Wh, 57.00Wh, 56.95Wh, 56.85Wh. Is it normal? Is it possible that this setting will kill my battery?

Chances are if you don't have accidental warranty, they won't replace it.I broke the same latch on my W520, and it doesn't seem to cause issues other than the battery being a little bit loose. I just used a bit of tape to attach the battery to the machine.

I have a thinkpad 440s i7 8GB RAM.  I have the dual batteries on it, one internal and the external option as well.  However, only the interal battery is charging.  It charges fully giving me about 2 hours of battery life. but only says the computer has 17 to 20% battery life when both batteries drivers are enabled. The external battery remains at 0% and says plugged in but not charging.  I did a diagnostic check and it says both batteries are in good condition.  I have also tried the other steps posted on here where you uninstall the Microsoft ACPI for the batteries in the Device manager, which didn't do anything. I have had the computer for less than 1 year and need my computer for school so I can't send it away for any repairs.  Is there anything else I could try? Thank you!

Answer:ThinkPad L410:battery problem after calibration

Hi

Welcome to the community.

As per your concern you need to perform the following steps.
Double-click the green "Power Manager" battery icon near the Windows' system clock, usually at the lower-right corner of the screen. If you cannot find this icon, click "Start," "All Programs," "Access IBM" and "Power Manager."Click the "Battery Information" tab at the top.Click "Battery Maintenance."Click "Perform Reset," and then click "Continue" on the confirmation dialog box. This procedure will take at least six hours to complete, and you should not use your ThinkPad during that time. You will be prompted when the battery reset is complete.

If your battery has much lesser capacity or does not charge at certain level any longer, you may want to perform a gauge reset on the battery.

 Regards,
Sameer

It does appear that you have a good working knowledge of the Battery Reset Function.  But if all the steps are followed it should have resolved your issue.  I am listing the steps for resetting the Battery Gauge and I would like for you walk through the steps one more time.  If this does not work then we can look  a little deeper to find the issue.

Resetting the battery gauge
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/diagnose-and-fix/detail.page?DocID=HT003431#reset

After the battery firmware is updated, the full charge capacity will be reset to the battery's design capacity. Because of this, it is recommended that a battery fuel gauge reset be performed after the update is complete. This will update the full charge capacity to an accurate value. If this is not done, the battery may report a sudden drop in the estimates of remaining percentage and remaining time once the battery is nearly empty even after updating the firmware. To perform the fuel gauge reset:

Start Power Manager by double-clicking the fuel gauge displayed in the lower right portion of the screen.
Select Advanced in Switch to: view.
Click the Battery tab.
Click Battery maintenance.
Click Perform Reset.
Follow the instructions on the screen.

After the reset is complete, the battery gauge will be calibrated.
If Power Manager is not installed or no Battery Maintenance button is available in Power Manager, the battery gauge can be reset by the following instructions.

I think I have a firmware problem on a Lenovo Thinkpad T410 battery (FRU: 42T4795). My battery was purchased in January 14 and was working quite fine until yesterday ( I am talkin about discharge time of +4 hours).  I had to take out the battery for some reason and reinstall it. It was ~70% full when I took it out. Then when I inserted the battery again, the battery stopped being charged/discharged altogether. It currently shows up as being charged 69% but does not discharge or charge at all. I haved tried to clean the connection, reboot, renistall the windows 8 drivers for the battery, etc.I had another old battery on this machine that had seen the same problem, but a  firmware update by Lenovo resolved that issue. I checked if Lenovo had released an update for the firmware of my current battery, but unfortuanetly 42T4795 is not part of the latest firmware update on Lenovo website (Feb 2015):http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t41...My Laptop/Battery is out of warranty and I am not asking for a replacement, because my battery might be in good condition. I wondere if there is any way to ask Lenovo to release a firmware update for these types of battery (FRU: 42T4795)!

Answer:Thinkpad T410 battery problem (FRU: 42T4795)

It's possible that something tripped the protection on the battery; they're usually set overzealously to prevent battery fires. AFAIK, there's no easy way to reset it if it happens. On the other hand, check if your battery is one of the recalled ones:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/Expanded-battery-recall-program/td-p/20675...

Hi, i am starting to be desperate, therefore i registered myself here. Let me explain my story. My computer is now almost 2 years old and I have less than 14 days till the warranty expires (I am from Europe), but I'd like to avaid this, because i really need my computer now, not after 30 days, which is by law designated time till which it must be returned to me back. I did not have to use my computer outside home for about 3 month, so I was using that during that period as desktop computer, where i set in lenovo power manager, that all energy should be taken from the AC adaptor letting the battery to deplete itself in its own pace. But i have taken my computer to the libraries lately and i have experienced sudden battery problems. Let me describe them in order as it happened. 1) battery shows that that it has more than lets say 20% of power, but windows power manager warns me that battery capacity is in reality 6% and i need to use my AC adaptor now. after second even lenovo power manager recognize the fact that battery is almost depleted. first i did not pay attention, i thought it was some temporary bug and it will not be repeated again. 2) unfortunatelly it was, therefore i updated lenovo power manager to current version (6.11), which realized that current battery capacity was not 54Wh (as before update), but 47Wh. Therefore I resetted battery gauge statting that battery capacity is now slightly over 51Wh. For couple of days everything was as it should ... Read more

I've formatted the laptop and it worked great, but I saw that there was no wireless card and opened it to insert. I put a card from Dell laptop and when I turn on laptop, I got this error:

ERROR 1802 Unauthorized network card is plugged in - power off and remove the miniPCI network card.

I searched the internet and I saw that for this error, solution is updating/flashing bios with "whitelist removal". I did it and turn on the laptop and it worked normally, until I unplug the charger.
Whenever I unplug it from the charger, laptop shut down immediately, just like it is without the battery in it. I tried to get back the original bios, but still the same. It shut down in Windows (7 32bit), in Safe Mode and in Bios.
So the laptop is running great when I plug charger, battery shows a 100%. Previously battery held around 2-3h.

Solution ?

Answer:Problem with Lenovo Thinkpad T61

Sounds like it`s not getting a good connection to the battery. You should get it serviced.

Hi, LCD in my T61 14,1" with nVidia graphics (T61 7664-18G) has failed - I attached an image. External LCD is 100% OK, just internal have this problem (like image in fog, bad readable). I try to replace LCD - problem is still there. What can be the solution? LCD cable, invertor, or it is a nVidia problem (but really just internal LCD problem)? Thanks for help.

Internal LCD (like in fog, no readable text - or very bad):

Hi,

I bought a genuine x220/x230 battery. After I power on the laptop, I got a message: the laptop doesn't support this battery. I tried to update the bios but nothing happend. The power manager said the battery voltage, performance, cycles, LGC battery. If I unplugged the laptop, it is works so the laptop can use the battery just not charge. If it was not a genuine battery I can't see these description or I should also?

Maybe this is not compatible with my x230 because it compatible just x220 and the seller didn't know it?

I attached some photo about the problem. If anyone know anything about it please help me. Thanks.

Answer:Thinkpad X230 'The battery installed is not supported and will not charge' problem

Good day and welcome to the community.

The X230 requires the 44-series batteries, which incorporated some new circuitry with which the x230 interacts. As you've found, the X230 will run from a charged 29-series battery, but will not recharge it. The X220 originally came with series 29-series batteries, but also works with the newer 44-series.

Hi everyone,
My name is James and I've been using my Lenovo y500 for 2 years now (originally bought it to use for school/gaming). I've never had any problems with my laptop until I performed a battery gauge calibration using an app that was made by LENOVO. Now I know this is a known problem but what about the people who have purchased these Lenovo computers, expecting them to last? It's really not fair to the people with no more warranty because this is software that literally came pre-installed with the computer. Like, why put this app on these computers if it's going to break your motherboard? Anyways... The ONLY way I can ever charge my laptop now is by doing this annoying/tedious process that I managed to find on this forum.
link: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Solution-for-laptop-cannot-detect-AC-adapter-af...1. Remove the battery (if laptop is powering on, then shutdown it first).2. Remove the AC adaptor from wall ac receptacle. 3. Once the laptop is completely powered down, plug AC adaptor to your laptop and wall AC receptacle.4. After a few second, insert battery back into the Laptop. And then, the battery will be chaged as usaul.5. You need to repeat step 1-4 above every time you unpluged the AC adaptor.

This is extrememly embarassing for me sometimes especially when I have class because people look at me like "what's with this kid's computer? it must be bad."  So, it's really ridiculous how little is being done about this... Read more

I bought lenovo y500 two days ago in INDIA.  In the lenovo energy management system 8.0, I found a battery calibration option and decided to do it.  The steps mentioned there were as follows. 1. Full charge2. Full discharge  The process performed full charging followed by complete discharge of the battery which caused the laptop to shut down.   When I tried turning on my laptop, it could not start.  The battery charging indicator LED wasnt switched on even though the power cord was inserted into the laptop.  I could start the laptop only after removing the battery.   Once the laptop was on, I inserted the battery back in and it began to charge.  After about 50% of charging, I removed the power cord and inserted it again.  Now the battery couldnt resume charging.  I again had to shut down the laptop and repeat the above steps of inserting battery after switching on the laptop without battery.  Only then the battery would resume charging. After this, I decided to allow the battery to charge to 100%. But, the charging remained stuck at 99% and could not fully charge the battery.  When I removed and reinserted the power cord, the same problem persisted of battery not resuming charging. Please help me with this problem.  I read on few forums about uninstalling microsoft ACPI which supposedly solves this issue.  However, ACPI returns back after I restart my laptop.I also tried switch... Answer:LENOVO Y500 BATTERY NOT CHARGING AFTER USING LENOVO'S BATTERY GAUGE CALIBRATION

ADMIN Edit - While the original post below is marked as the solution, because service will be required if the battery will no longer charge after performing a battery reset, I am adding a Lenovo update here to confirm.   Normal operation will allow the battery to relearn its capacity characteristics when using the battery reset function.  Typically this is not needed in normal use..   Batteries are equipped with a safety feature that will permanently disconnect them (like a fuse) if cell imbalance or an internal short is detected.   This tends to be statistically infrequent, but also normal, and would require a battery replacement.  (Batteries have a 1 year warranty).   This battery feature can also  produce similar results to what is being discussed in the thread, so it should first be considered by service.   This particular  forum discussion also involves a situation that could affect a limited number of systems, and could lead service to replace the system board during warranty.

If your system experiences these symptoms, please contact service during the warranty period.

Trying to install f-secure on a new Lenovo Thinkpad X230 running Win 7-64. The TP comes pre-loaded with Norton anti-virus. Removed this with the Windows 7 Uninstall and then the last remnants with the Norton Removal Tool. F-secure installs successfully and runs OK after the installation but on a startup or reboot the f-secure Computer Security application fails to start. No matter how many restarts still get the same result. Unistalling/reinstalling f-secure does not help. Also, Windows reports that the Firewall and Anti-Virus protection is turned off. Can't seem to get through this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all, I have recently added an SSD to my thinkpad solely for the purpose of hosting windows on. I already had a 300GB HDD installed so I have installed a 120GB SSD in the wireless card slot. Everything went fine, have installed windows 7 onto the SSD and the laptop boots up perfectly however I can no longer see the HDD in my computer, it only displays the SSD in here now. Can anybody advise what I need to do to have both drives visable?  Many thanks for your help.

Answer:problem on my Lenovo Thinkpad L520

Hi, hentorky

Have you ensured that all the drivers for your machine have been updated, such as the BIOS and chipset? After a new installation of an operating system, it's best to make sure everything is up to date. All your drivers can be found here.

As for the message, I would try downloading the Lenovo Settings app. This can be found in the store in Windows 8. Make sure this is downloaded and then try hitting the key combination again.

Best,
Adam

It seemed to happen when I was trying to type out a character using the Ascii code number. Instead of holding down Alt and typing 156 I held down Alt Gr. That was the last thing I think I did when it turned. I remember from years ago there was a 3 or 4 button routine that would turn the image upside down on the screen but I can't remember that either. But, AS WELL lol, the touchbad has stayed the same !!!. So now down = left, up = right, left = up and right = down. thanks

Hello. My business partners have at least two Lenovo ThinkPad E555 laptops with the same problem: under high load (I run AIDA64 Stability Test and monitored CPU frequency with HWInfo) both laptops experience CPU throttling of A8-7100 chip - only 1.6 GHz per core (picture 1) though it should be up to 3 GHz. Also HWInfo shows high temperature of the CPU and even higher temperature of the CPU package (picture 2). Also I want to note that this problem was detected even in the notebookcheck test ("Temperature" section).I think you know about such problem with this laptop model. Why does it happen? Due to bad cooling system, thermal paste, or due to the flaw in software or firmware of the processor, which prematurely "tells" it to reduce the frequency? What can be done to fix this? CPU cores frequency under loadCPU temperature under load
