Lenovo Edge E430 and Intel Management Engine Error After Windows 10

Question: Lenovo Edge E430 and Intel Management Engine Error After Windows 10

After upgrade to Windows10, I am now receiving an error regarding the Intel Management Engine firmware being out of date on the subject machine. I have found the following link that is supposed to fix this error, but hesitate to use as the E430 is not one of the listed machines for the fix. Here is the link: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds032435?lenovoid.action=uilogin&lenovoid.realm=support.le... Will this firmware download and upgrade work on a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E430? If not, what will? Thank You .... AM Smith

Preferred Solution: Lenovo Edge E430 and Intel Management Engine Error After Windows 10

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Greetings everyone!I've got a Lenovo T520 running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit with Service Pack 1. Two days ago I upgraded Intel Management Engine Firmware to version 7.1.91.3272 via Lenovo System Update. Since then my laptop has lost the ability to sleep. When I press the Sleep key my laptop performs an emergency power-off and then asks me if I want to start Windows normally or in the safe mode when I power it up again. The hybrid sleep function still works, but it takes much longer than just dumping the current session into RAM. I tried everything: updated the BIOS firmware (1.46) and the Intel 3000 video card drivers (9.17.10.4229). I have the latest Lenovo Power Manager software (6.68.13) too.Is there a way to roll back the Intel Management Engine Firmware to an earlier version?

Dear Lenovo Support Team,As you know, we have to update our PCs according to Lenovo Cumulative Security Update and security holes in installed versions of Intel's Management Engine inside our PCs. Could you kindly explain me the procedure for successful update of critically important Intel Management Engine Firmware for my 300-20ISH Desktop (ideacentre)? Please, step by step with right order to complete this update of IME firmware!Because I got "Error 8719: Firmware update cannot be initiated because Local Firmware update is disabled" with all my attempts and already installed updates of Intel Management Engine Interface Driver for Windows|Intel AMT Driver for Windows from download section 300-20ISH I used "Consumer Intel Management Engine Firmware Update Tool for Intel SKL and Kaby Lake - IdeaCentre, ThinkCentre and Lenovo Desktop 11.8.50.3425" for update of IME Firmware. My OS is Windows 10 Pro 64bit.Installed BIOS Version: FYKT74A2017/07/26 (recent) If there is need to change here and there via options in BIOS for successful update then let me know and for others owners of 300-20ISH Desktop (ideacentre) too. Thanks!

This update fixes a bug in earlier version where BSOD occurs if managment engine components are deactivated.   But in order to complete the recommended update, user must first uninstall managment engine components, then install new version.   Can someone please explain then why uninstalling the management engine components in order to upgrade won't leave me with BSOD and no way to proceed?   Also, does anyone know how to determine in Windows 8.1 what version of .NET Framework is presently installed?  New version of Intel management engine components required at least version 3.5. Thanks for the help.

Answer:Avoid BSOD bug -- Lenovo Sys Update says update Intel Management Engine Components

It should be alright. Guessing wildly, but I think by "deactivated" it means deactivated in the BIOS settings. Make a restore point you can restore to just in case it goes bad.Windows 8.1 has at least .NET Framework 3.5 by default.

I am having problems with my TP X201i CTO (freezes, very poor battery time) and have been trying to figure what is wrong. Have reinstalled the OS several times, but makes no difference. I now noticed that I have Intel Management Engine version 6.2.50.1050 installed. Interestingly, this version does not seem to exist when I search for my machine (x201i, 3249, with Windows 8.1 Pro) on the drivers and downloads page at Lenovo.com. The latest version appears to be 6.2.50.1062, and the previous version was 6.2.20.1040 - and my version is in-between (!): http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS012852 The obvious question is: should I upgrade to .1062? I guess Win8 and Win8.1 are sufficiently similar to mostly use the same drivers (the page only notes Win8, not Win8.1). Interestingly, I've used the "Update Driver..." utility in the Device Manager, but it claims I already have the latest version (?). Please help.

Hi all, I've been deploying x301's to my users now for about 8 months with very few issues.  Mostly windows hiccups here and there, standard part of being a Windows shop.  We also use BitLocker Drive Encryption (TPM+PIN style) and it works 99.5% perfectly. I have two systems I'm currently looking at as if they have two heads unsure of what to do to get them to work.  Both of the users that had these systems handed them to me one day and said, it's broke, we don't know what happened.  Of course asked them the standard updates, new installs, etc with nothing additional put into or on their systems.  Rooted around myself and confirmed it.  These drives for whatever reason, continue to display, there is a TPM error and this drive will require a recovery password until it is addressed.  Additional symptoms include a much longer boot up process after POST, particularly the Intet Management Engine that normally scrolls across the screen fairly quickly before boot up to Windows, has now turned into an older version, instead of saying Intel ME is initializing, just says ME is initializing.  Further inspection, upon decrypting the drives to try and re-encrypt them to fix it gave me the results that the TPM chip is missing!  I've also recently discovered that the systems will not reboot.  That is to say, after a full power down in the reboot cycle or shutdown process, bringing the system back up will hang after POST when the ba... Hello

some friends of mine informed me of this article on extremetech.com that informs us about intel patches major flaws in intel management engine.
Intel has acknowledged and patched a new suite of security problems affecting its Intel Management Engine. This subsystem controls many low-level capabilities of the SoC, and can be used for features like remote access and Intel’s Trusted Execution Engine. The company has released a list of 10 vulnerabilities across multiple products that are addressed by recent driver updates. Potentially affected systems include:

6th, 7th & 8th Generation Intel® Core™ Processor Family
Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1200 v5 & v6 Product Family
Intel® Xeon® Processor Scalable Family
Intel® Xeon® Processor W Family
Intel® Atom® C3000 Processor Family
Apollo Lake Intel® Atom Processor E3900 series
Apollo Lake Intel® Pentium™
Celeron™ N and J series Processors

That’s Intel’s entire product line dating back to the introduction of Skylake. According to Intel, attackers could impersonate the Intel Management Engine, Server Platform Services, and/or the Trusted Execution Engine, load and execute arbitrary code without the user or OS being aware of it, and destabilize or crash a system altogether.
Intel has released a detection tool so you can check to see if your system is affected by these issues. Updates will have to be issued by firmware vendors, however, so even ... Read more

Hey there thiyagarajaner,

I believe you are using the ThinkPad 11b/g/n 1x1 WiFi card. Have you tried using the System Update Tool? This typically will instal the drivers that match your system. Hope this helps.

As an alternative there is also this driver, that may work in the even that the one from Broadcom does not.

Hi M1964,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per your query we understood that you want to know if there will be any issue if we uninstall Intel Management application on your ThinkPad T540p.

If the system is used for personal and it is nowhere connected to office domain, then you can disable it in BIOS and also uninstall it.

This option helps IT departments to manage, support and track your system as per the corporate IT policy.

Hope this helps.

Hemanth Kumar

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Active_Management_Technology

There seems to be issues with a security hole:
(general search)
https://www.google.com/search?client=ubuntu&channel=fs&q=Intel+Management+Engine&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

An example of a 'fix' seems beyond the realm of home owners and there can be serious negative effects including bricking a computer depending on the hardware:
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Sakaki's_EFI_Install_Guide/Disabling_the_Intel_Management_Engine

How serious is this IME and what else can be done to address the issue?

(I've read AMD has something that may be similar)

I've had this Thinkpad Edge E430 since 2012 and have loved it, but recently I've been having a problem with it. In order to start it up I have to start it at least twice, and now it seems that the AC adapter must be plugged in for it to start. What will happen the first time or when it's just running on the battery is that the red indicator light will turn on, and I will hear the fan and the harddrive start up, but the screen will remain black and the computer will not respond to anything. When I have it plugged in and try the second time, it will start up no problem, and there doesn't seem to be any response issues once the laptop is up and running. I thought it might be a battery problem, but it has the same start up issues when I took out the batter and just had the AC adapter plugged in. Any ideas what this might be?

Answer:Intel(R) Management Engine Interface

Hi: The only suggestion I can offer would be to try manually installing the driver as follows. Go to the device manager and click on the problem IMEI device. Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file (assuming you ran sp63661). That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp63661. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and see if the driver installs that way.

Hi,
I have DELL Inspiron 15R 5520 laptop with processor Intel i5-3210M and the system is working pretty well but i have some questions about Intel Management Engine Interface.
1- Is this component important or necessary for my system ?
2- If i disable IME Interface in Device Manager, could this harm my system or cause a negative impact on my laptop's performance ?
Please clear things up for me and Merry Christmas everyone.

Answer:Intel Management Engine Interface

You can disable it without any performance or functionality compromises you?d likely care about, but if you?re thinking about doing that for security reasons, that won?t be effective. The Intel ME is essentially a co-processor that runs underneath the OS, and the drivers just allow things like pop-up notifications within Windows for things going on in Intel ME and I think a configuration interface ? but exploitable vulnerabilities remain exploitable because they run underneath the OS. For example, if your system was ordered with the vPro Advanced Features option, it has a full-blown VNC interface at the hardware level that allows you to remotely control the system even while it?s shut down. However, that option is typically not ordered, and even when it is, that VNC functionality (called Intel AMT KVM) is not enabled by default.

Hi,
My BIOS update app has informed me of the above update . Is this something I should install. I have read a few articles regarding the above, still unsure
Your thoughts please
Thank you

Answer:Intel Management Engine Software ?

Typically, the wisdom on the forum is - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Unless you know that this update is something you need or will give you some sort of additional functionality that you want, don't do it. There is, IMHO, absolutely no point in updating just for updating's sake. It's all too easy to screw up something that was working just fine. Others may have a different opinion.

Hello,      I have a Lenovo M58p SFF. Basically I was messing around with the settings in Intel Management Engine and managed to disable ME State Control. After the system restarted, my cpu fan is spinning at full throttle and is quite lout. My Issue is, I cannot re-enter Management Engine, during the BIOS splash screen I have the option to press ctrl+P to enter Management engine, but the screen just goes blank for a few moments and continues to boot to windows. I've tried resetting bios;reset cmos;pull cmos battery and power cable; using cmos clear jumper;Flashing bios to the latest version; and nothing seems to work. So basically, what happened? Windows 7 upgrade advisor indicates I need a compatible driver for this device (I presume it means for the motherboard). I can not find such an animal anywhere at Intel or Gateway and Gateway won't advise me unless I sign up for $2.95 per minute support as I'm out of warranty. Can anyone shed light on the driver I should have. Can I just intall Win 7 and let it supply the driver or will it do that?

If you can provide the motherboard chipset or model number maybe we can find Intels drivers will work. Their is a lot of information on this question on goggle http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...gine+interface

Hi

I have a problem with the driver for Intel Management Engine Interface on my Windows 7 64 bit PC. I have been trying to sort this with HP Support but after following all their advice without solving the problem they now suggest a re-install of Windows 7.

What I would like to know is in simple terms, what does the Intel Management Engine Interface do? Is it essential? What are the likely effects of this problem?

My PC seems to be running just fine apart from the error message for the Intel Management Engine Interface. Should I bite the bullet and do a complete re-install or should I just ignore it?

All advice gratefully received.

I ran Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

Successful:

CPU - Tick
RAM - Tick
Hard Drive Soace - Tick
Windows Aero - Tick

Update required:

Intel ® Management Engine Interface: "Action Required" - Update required to make this device compatible with Windows 7. Go online for the latest driver from the manufactures website.

Now, how on earth do I know what driver I need to download for the device???

It also tells me I need to do a custom installation and then reinstall applications, does this mean "Clean Install"? I want to do CLEAN anyway.

Answer:Intel (R) Management Engine Interface

My two cents on this is:Do a clean install. There are so many potential and unforseen issues that you could run into if you "upgrade" to Win 7, no matter what OS you jump up from. Back up all of your data, personal stuff and important information and start from scratch.Get the drivers first that you know you will need for Win 7 before you get to the install. Especially drivers for you Network Interface Card (NIC).That's just my thoughts on the matter. Best of luck.

When I run the "Update" app on "Lenovo Companion" it tells me I need this and then appears to go through the whole installation process followed by a reboot. But then when I run the "Update" app again it tells me I still need to install it, as if it never happened. I went to the Lenovo support page to try to install it from there but I have the same problem, in that after rebooting and running the "Update" feature it tells me I still need to install it. Any ideas? Thanks.

It says that the device cannot start (code 10). However this all goes away when I restart the computer; but happens again when I "shut down" and turn the pc on again. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14. It has a i7-5500U processor.

There's a critical update for "Intel Management Engine 11.0 Firmware -7 [32,64]/8.1/10 [64]". However, installing it produces the following error message: "error 8743 Unknown or unsupported platform". (see attached screenshot)

I've tried installing it with the utility from the Lenovo site, as well as using the standard Lenovo updating tool called "System Update 5". Both with the same result.

I don't know what to do. Intel says it can't help because it's Lenovo specific. And Lenovo won't help because it's out of warranty.

Hi there,I'm having a problem with my Thinkpad L412. I installed Windows 10 from scratch, no other programs or tools besides Windows 10 are installed. (The issue I'm having also occurs when I tried the same with Win 7)When I turn off the PC by Windows> Shut down, the system shuts off and the screen becomes dark, but the PC stays on and stops reacting, the only way to turn it off is by pushing the physical button on the PC and then the PC will power off but will automatically start again and I need to push the button again to power it off and only then it will stay off.The PC will start without issues.I found posts that this behaviour could be caused by the Intel Management Engine Interface, which funny enough, has an yellow admiration symbol in Device Management. It also gives a message which says that the device can not be started (Code 10).The driver 6.0.0.1179 seems to be the correct one, though. After deleting it will be reinstalled by Windows so I can not get rid of it. Lenovo also states that this is the correct driver.I tried ideas like disconnecting battery and CMOS battery, downgrading BIOS from 1.39 to 1.35 but nothing helped.I also tried the Intel Driver Update Utility. It suggested installing a file Intel Chipset Device Software, but that installation failed with 'unknown error'So I'm running out of ideas and any suggestion and any help is very much appreciated!Thinkpad L412Intel Core i3 CPU M370 @ 2.40GHzWindows 10 Pro x64 (Creators Update)Intel Managemen... Hello all,
I have DELL Inspiron 15R 5520 with freshly installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1 but some annoying issues began to occur after cold booting my laptop :
1- 15 seconds delay between the power up lights turn on and the DELL BIOS logo.
2- A yellow mark appears next to Intel Management Engine Interface Driver with Error Code 10 ( this device could not start ), but this problem disappears when i restart my laptop and comes back after a cold boot.
I tried many things to solve this problem but none of them worked for me :
1- I tried a clean install of Windows and installing all drivers in correct order > didn't work.
2- I tried upgrading to latest BIOS and resetting CMOS Battery > same problem.
3- I tried uninstalling IMEI driver and reinstalling it again after a restart > nothing works.
A friend of mine told me that there may be a problem with Intel Management Firmware and this could probably cause that slow BIOS startup and the problem of IMEI driver in device manager.
So, can anyone suggest an effective way to fix that Intel Management Engine firmware corruption ?
And if its not the firmware...what could cause that BIOS delay ? Could the MB be faulty or something ?
I'm waiting for your replies and thanks in advance.

My system has an Integrated Network Card (Intel Ethernet Connection 1217-LM)
You are supposed to be able to access the Intel Management Engine BIOS by pressing Ctrl-P when you see the screen that tells you to Press Ctrl-P to enter MEBx Setup - but that Screen never pops up when I reboot while taping the F12 key.

I know there is another thread on this topic. I arrived late to the party and saw some exchanges which has caused the OP to request the thread to be closed.

I'm creating this new thread because in some of the posts, there was a question about if your particular PC is affected by this vulnerability by having the coprocessor subsystem at the heart of this issue. Through the link provided by the OP of the other thread, I found a tool Intel has created to allow you to definitively check to see if your device is affected. The tool can be run in both Windows and Linux. Here is the link:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27150

I ran it on my Dell XPS 13 model 9343 and it's not affected.

I'm still researching more about the functions of this IME engine along with what type of network access you have to have to get to it. I'm no stranger to out of band management systems. I work with them constantly in the past when I was working in various data centers and now as a consultant along with my own data center in my basement. The fortunate thing about the systems I have out of band connectivity is they're systems which live in a data center and have a lot more scrutiny with security vulnerabilities. Because many of these systems are used in Federal data centers, they're required to pass certain vulnerability tests and certifications such as FIPS 140-2. These out of band systems provide a lot of flexibility with Enterprise management. In the case o... Read more

In Device Manager I have an ! against Intel Management Engine Interface.

In Driver Properties it says:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)
An invalid parameter was passed to a service or function.

I have also seen errors related to this in a recent Perfmon report.

I have tried to update the driver (right click on it in Device Manager, check on Dell website, check with Intel Driver Update Utility) but all these methods say I have the up to date one.

On my other Dell laptop (same spec) the same version of this is running without a problem. On that laptop there was an update in mid November that I don't have on the problem laptop. I have a feeling that I did a System Restore back around that time that affected a few things, and this may have been one of them. I thought I had kept a screenshot of this, but must have deleted it so I can't be sure.

Question is: how can I get this working again?

Should I try uninstalling and reinstalling it?

If so, what is the best (and most foolproof) way to do this? Can I do it from the right click options in Device Manager, for example? I'm a bit concerned that, if I uninstall it I may not get the correct version back again.

Answer:Intel Management Engine Interface Problem

yes uninstall the driver until you get the ? mark for unknown device, reboot and reinstall the driver

This post is closely related with, but more precise than, a previous one. After being unable to shutdown (also restart/hybernate/sleep) the laptop unless it is started in safe mode, and suspecting that the problem was caused by Intel Management Engine driver, I made a clean install of Windows 10. Just after the new installation, during a few minutes, "Intel Management Engine Interface" wasn't listed in the device manager, and there was a yellow mark in a device related with PCI. During these first minutes, the laptop could be shutdown or rebooted without problems. Then, Windows installed "Intel Management Engine Interface" without asking (version 11.7.0.1032). From this moment, I need to press the switch for 6 seconds to shutdown, and the laptop cannot reboot, hybernate or sleep. Same problem after disabling Fast Startup. Then I updated Intel Management Engine Interface to version 11.7.0.1040, as suggested in the E570 support page. Same problem. BIOS version: 1.88Intel Management Engine Firmware version: 11.8.50.3399 Is there any solution to this problem? I'm really annoyed and disappointed, and I think I'm going to use the warranty and return the laptop to the reseller.

Answer:When will the Intel Management Engine Firmware update be available for the Yoga 910?

I see a lot of people asking this question, and the best answer I have seen so fare is that they are working on certifying Intel's firmware update on all vulnerable Lenovo systems as fast as they can, and will release the firmware updates as soon as possible.

Hey all,

The motherboard I'm working with is an ASUS H97M-E, and the latest driver for the Intel MEI (Management Engine Interface) is currently installed from the ASUS support website. However, in device manager, there appears to be a problem with it. I can't figure it out.

The driver installation went without a hitch, and the repair install and uninstall/reinstall went well also. Your help is appreciated (and of course, rewarded ).

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Intel MEI (Management Engine Interface) Prob. with driver

A little more detail might help Dusty, what sort of problem in device manager?

Are you doing this driver update after installing an OS?

Tried the chipset drivers as well?

Yellow exclamation mark on Intel Management Engine Interface.
Tried updating, removing, reinstalling, formating but the problem persists.
I read here someone with the same problem but could't reply so i started a new one.
I have Gigabyte GA-H55-S2 rev 1.3 with i3-540 on Win10 Pro (x64)
Also tried with windows 7x64 ultimate but same problem.
And one other thing i think might be related to this problem, when I shutdown my pc it says it's shutting down, screen shuts like it should but the machine inside is still working (coolers, graphics etc.). I need to hard shut down by pressing the power button
for a couple of seconds to shut down. Restarting does shutdown the pc but it boots up normally. Both shutting down and restarting takes about 30 secs each which is not normal, never had this problem before.
Any possible solutions?
I have tried the answers on a post here where the problem was solved but it does not solve it for me.
Thanks forwards.

I have a ProBook 450 G3 running Windows 10. I am planning on updating the BIOS to N78 Ver. 01.15 Rev.A (from Ver. 01.12). I noticed the following statement on the BIOS download page: "HP strongly recommends updating the Management Engine firmware to version 11.0.18.1002 to prevent BIOS/Management Engine firmware corruption issues.". How can I determine the version of the IME firmware on my system? The latest version of the IME firmware for download is 11.0.0.1202 ... should I just go ahead and download and install that before the BIOS update? Thanks in advance,Mike

Answer:BIOS Update / Intel Management Engine Firmware

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. To answer your question about Intel ME... Perhaps in the Control Panel > Programs and features. When you find it there click on it and it should show a versionorif you search for it in C:\Program files or C:\Program files (x86) and search inside the folder, it should show the version somewhere. You may also see if this tool will work on W10 > https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19009     But considering you already have experience with BIOS things , I am wondering why do you want to do it again... General recommendation I provide to users/customers is NOT to upgrade BIOS/UEFI unless they experience any kind of specific BIOS/UEFI issue. Updating just for the "noble cause" of updaing and just for using the latest verson is not solution. Any kind of update (no matter for what and who relesed it) can fix 2 issues but may introduce 10 more issues. Additionally, upgrading the BIOS (for any vendor) poses more risks because BIOS recovery is not that easy as compared to typical software updates IF something goes wrong. Same applies for Windows Updates, OS update, drivers updates, etc - upgrade/update IF you have issues which you know are fixed in the newer version or for some severe security issues. Otherwise, keep the existing version as long as possible.

Answer:X201 - Intel Management Engine & Security Status

Are you actually using AMT?  It is generally used in large businesses so that a group if machines can be managed centrally.  If you are not using it, I suggest disabling it in the BIOS.

Hi,I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem with this driver? I have used the driver page and downloaded and installed the driver, however when I check in device manager it is still saying disabled. ThanksMichael

Answer:Intel Management engine interface is disabled (A740)

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Try reinstalling it again.  Only this time uninstall it first then reboot your computer.  Once the computer is booted up then install a fresh copy of the driver.

Are these 2 drivers system-specific, or can I bypass the OEM's outdated drivers and grab the latest versions straight from Intel?

Answer:Intel chipset driver and Management Engine Interface

They are for all intel based MB. I would go ahead and update them, Intel Chipset drivers will also update the drivers for built in devices in your MB.

I own an Inspiron 5558 laptop.  For the past few months, this Intel Management Engine Interface Driver keeps asking to update the software.  I have tried both a complete removal followed by a reinstall and just a repair.  After both sequences I restarted the laptop.  It is still asking to update the software.
I am out of warranty on my laptop but would still appreciate any/all suggestions to resolve this.
Thank you!
Lou

Intel Management Engine

I have never fully understood the purpose of this driver and software.
My research just hasn't answered my questions.
I installed it because it came with the ASRock motherboard CD and looked like it might be necessary.
Software Updates Monitor (SUMo) is showing that it needs to be updated.
There is a later version of the driver on the ASRock download page, but not the latest version shown by SUMo.

If this is not needed, I would like to remove it.

Windows 7 Uninstaller shows it as Intel Management Engine Components.
SUMo shows it as Intel Management and Security Status.
Both of the above do show the same version number.

The motherboard is an ASRock with Intel H87 chipset.

Can I remove this driver and any associated software??

Answer:Can I remove the Intel Management Engine driver and software?

This article will give you more info. on the Intel Management Engine and what it does:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/vpro-amt-management-kvm,3003-6.html

Since it appears to have an error reporting function built in (and is not a security risk so far as I'm aware of), my thought is to leave it in place. Performance wise, it should have very little (if any) impact on the speed of your PC.
