I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have 3 thinkpads that after a fresh reload are unable to connect to wireless networks. I have gone through and installed the different wireless drivers on the lenovo support website. I have gone through several steps of similar problems others have had but it hasn't made a difference. I have installed: HotKeys & patchPower manager & driverChipsetThe realtek network -ethernet adapter and communications LAN driverI have installed and removed each wireless adapter available Thinkpad Edge 15Type: 0319-46U On a side note in the Device manager screen there is a "Network Controller" alert saying no driver installed for this device. I have determined it is some Realtek device but beyond that I am lost.

Hello, I am looking for a little bit of help. I have a Lenovo Edge 15 0319-46U laptop I recieved from my educational institution. I have had the laptop since fall of 2012. I've never had a single issue with the laptop except a month ago I noticed my wireless 1x1 b/g/n card stopped working. I'm well knoledged in computers and have already tried updating the drivers but I ran into an issue. My wireless card is no longer being shown on the Device Manager list under Network Adapters or "Unknown Devices", I only see my Wired gigabit card. I went into Bios, checked the button (did all the begginer stuff) and no dice. Wireless still does not work. I went ahead and ordered a new Intel Wireless card for said laptop and made sure the interface worked correctly, so my question is does anyone know of any fixes that could work even if the adapter is not shown on anywhere in the computer? And would anyone know if the Intel 7260-HMWNBWB Dual band card would be compatible with this machine? Thanks in advance for an answer.

Answer:Thinkpad Edge 15 0319-46U wireless problems

Hello and welcome,

The ThinkPad BIOS has a wifi whitelist.  A card has to be a whitelisted model and have a Lenovo FRU number or the laptop will refuse to boot.  Generic cards - even with the correct model number - won't boot on an unmodified BIOS.

Page 113 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual  lists the compatible models and FRU numbers.

Things ran pretty smoothly for the first few weeks and suddenly the wireless doesn't work. I let the system run a hard ware check where 3 warnings appeared Broadcom wireless mini adaptor warned of problems on radio enabled, network scan, signal strength and local connection. It does not however, produce an actionable tasks to fix. At this stagw I'm not even sure if the two problems are related. I have checked and found that asll drivers are up to date. Any ideas? Thanks

Hey, I have a Thinkpad Edge 13 and I've just installed WIndows7 on it. The problem is I've installed all the drivers that I could find on the lenovo site for the wireless card but none of them would work. In Device manager the network card is still unidentified. From what I've seen all the lenovo drivers are for Intel cards but Everest tells me the network card is a Realtek PCIe BGE family card. I've also installed the drivers from Realtek but still nothing. The network card is enabled in BIOS and I've tried the Fn wireless switch to no aval. Any ideas? Thanks

Thinkpad decided to turn off my wireless radio and own't let me turn it back on. Let me just say that whoever's brilliant idea that was should be fired on the spot. Before you send me to update all the drivers, stop. Already did that per this post: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/Thinkpad-Edge-14-0578RD4-WLAN-Driver-Issues/m-p/4... Every one of my function buttons works except for F9 or even Fn + F9. I do not see a radio switch anywhere on this thing either. Please help. It's running Windows 7 x64.

Answer:e520 thinkpad edge low wireless mbps

It depends on how close you are to the router and how strong the connection is. If you're far away or there's a lot of interference, the connection speed will automatically drop to ensure data integrity. You may want to see if your access point is operating in 802.11g mode.

I just picked up an Edge 14 and had to reset it from Windows 7 x64 to  Windows 7 x32.  All the drivers have picked up except for the wireless driver.   The technical specs list the wireless card as Wireless NIC: ThinkPad 11 b/g/n so in theory it should be this driver: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS000979 but Windows says that the driver is incorrect.  I've checked the BIOS and the wireless card is enabled and F9 also shows that the wireless is enabled.  I've tried the rest of the drivers in the matrix in case I had the wrong one but none of them worked either.  Any ideas?

Answer:Problem driver wireless Thinkpad Edge 15

Hi, nicholas89

How was your machine reformatted? Did you reinstall Windows with recovery media?

You can try, if you haven't already, to update the drivers from Device Manager. If you right-click on the device in question, select Properties, and then click the Driver tab, there should be a button for update driver. Also, I would make sure that your BIOS is up to date. The latest version for your system can be found here.

Best of luck, and let me know how it goes

I had to do a fresh install of windows 7 professional.  Everything is working aside from the wireless connection.  I've downloaded each wireless driver and still the issue persists.  I can see the connection being broadcasted, upon entering the password to connect I only get "windows was unable to connect to xxx". I can connect to this wireless point from my phone and my other laptop plus no one else in the office is having this issue.  Only on this Thinkpad am I having the problem. If I try to use the Intel PROSet/Wireless Tools diagnostics I get a FAILED-Wireless Hardware is not bound to transport driver.  I've tried everything at this point with no luck.  The LAN works fine of course but I need the Wireless to work.  Thanks

I just purchased a Thinkpad Edge E530c 33662UU Laptop.  I have had it for one day now and it will not connect to my wireless network.   My wife is currently online with her laptop so the router is working (although I did reset it anyhow).  I ran troubleshoot and it didn't fix anything.  My network is showing up under available networks and it says I'm connected.  But it also says no internet access.  Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Answer:Thinkpad Edge Wireless connectivity issue

Hi, trevclark

I have a few questions that will help in resolving this issue:

What operating system are you running? Also, what computer and operating system is your wife using? What type of router are you using?

Also, I would recommend making sure all the drivers and software for your machine is up to date, which can all be found here.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Hi, This is my first time posting and I'm hoping someone can help me resolve a strange issue I am having with my wireless connection on my Thinkpad edge.   Basically what happends is I cannot connect to my router unless I set up a network ONLY from my computer.  It will not work if the network is configured on another laptop in the house.   This is all well and good and I am able to connect when I do this but randomly every few days OR when I reboot or boot up from sleep mode I am unable to connect to the network that I set up on my computer.  Every other device in the house is able to connect to the router network that I configured on my computer. Every time this happens I have to reset the router.  I reset back to stock router settings with the NETGEAR SSID and no security and I am unable to connect and everyone else is still able to connect.  Thus I have to set up the network exactly the way it was before so all the other devices in the house won't have to keep changing their information just to connect to the internet.   I have tried updating the adapter drivers and that did not work and sometimes randomly I am able to connect to the stock NETGEAR SSID but this seldom lasts long and I have to go and reconfigure the network again the way it was.  While I have internet and I have found a temporary fix to this problem I would love to get rid of it all together as it is a pain and it seems to be happening more f... Hello, I've recently bought the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E545 (about a week old) and everything is fine, except the problem is that the wireless download speed & connection is terrible slow. I've done speedtests and resulted in a 1mbps--or barely-- download speed. I updated the drivers, the network adapter, etc. and I have successfully updated the important Windows updates. It's currently Windows 7 and the current network adapter is 1x1 11b/g/n Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter. There is no problem with the router and no internet speed upgrade is required. I tested connections and done speedtests with other computers and devices on the same connection and their speed is significantly greater than the ThinkPad's. I assure you nothing is wrong with the router or connection area and I have some confidence that it is a hardware problem with the Wireless card. Is there any solution to this problem that does not require me to install another network adapter? I looked around and used Google and tried different methods but they don't seem to work. Thank you in advance.

Answer:ThinkPad Edge E545 - Weak Wireless Connection

I set up an account just to reply to you!...and also I just bought a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E545, and I want everyone to know what they're doing.  Plus, I'm having the same problem.  I just downloaded the Broadcom Wireless LAN (Driver here! Remember to choose for either Windows XP, 8, 8.1, or whatever you have!) and I've seen past comments that this has worked for them.  I'm about to go try it out, so wish me luck!  I hope you haven't returned that laptop you bought!  Lenovo is usually such a good brand, from what I hear, and I personally already enjoy the exterior, as I put structure, stability, and damage-resistant against style, which the Edge E545 seems to be more for the accident prone or careful type, but still cool!  Good luck!

Hi, I recently bought a 300Mbps Wireless N Router (TP-Link TL-WR841ND), but I only get 72 Mbps speed on my Thinkpad E430 laptop. As far as I read, the 1x1 11b/g/n Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter only supports speeds up to 150 Mbps (which would still be ok with me), but instead I get 72 Mbps. I tried to tweak the adapter and router settings, but I had no luck. Do I need to change the Wireless adapter? Is it possible to change it, or should I use an external USB Wireless adapter instead? Thank you!

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E430 Wireless speed only 72Mbps

Hi Tudorc,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I would suggest you to check if any other similar device is able to achieve better speeds.

Log to the router's configuration utility by typing its IP address into a browser and change the encryption settings to WPA2 Encryption Only. Choose 40MHz-wide channels in the router?s configuration utility.

Since you are using a 1x1 single-stream card, so a max of 150Mbps is theoretically said to achieve. In addition, you are only on the 2.4GHz band, which is often congested, so you may see lower speeds. The disparity between theoretical and practical Wi-Fi performance comes from network protocol overhead, radio interference, physical obstructions on the line of sight between devices, and distance between devices. Under ideal conditions, actual results for a wireless adapter rated at 150Mbps is perhaps in the range of 50-80Mbps.

Hope this provided enough clarity for your query!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hi,I purchased a Thinkpad Edge 14 ~1 year ago and it's been a good notebook overall. However there is one problem that's been bothering me for quite some time.Around every 20-30 minutes it loses connection to the internet (wireless), then around 10 seconds later it refreshes and regains connection automatically. Hi guys,I'd be very grateful if you could help with the following Thinkpad Edge 13 issues:1. Heating. The fan is blowing hot air from the vent on the left. I think have to run the troubleshoot to restore it again. Very annoying problem - any ideas on a fix?3. Freezing. This might be related to the heat problem, but since I installed a new hdd, the laptop freezes for about 30 seconds before coming back to life again. It seems especially the case when watching video.4. Video. When watching video on VLC, if I jog the laptop only slightly, the video freezes or stutters. I have to keep the laptop perfectly still to avoid this. Is that normal?Any help with this would be much appreciated! Thanks kindly.

Hi,
We deployed 10 Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E530 (M/N   MP1ZPZA) laptops for a new customer installation.
All systems are running Windows 7 64-bit Professional
The laptops are connected wireless in a Windows Server 2008R2 domain.
We have noticed some slow connectivity issues.
Multiple access points were tested but still had the same issue.
Whenever we ping a workstation the response time is over 800 milliseconds.
I updated the drivers using Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools and I didn?t get any improvement.  Because the wireless adapter is Intel, I installed the latest drivers provided by Intel but the result was the same.
I found that after running Intel WiDi application on any laptop the Ping response time for that workstation will temporarily decrease to less than 5ms (a normal timing range)
A couple of HP laptops were added to the domain for testing but did not experience the same issue with the ping response.
A case was opened with Lenovo technical support (Case#902B6YJ).
After talking with Lorenzo, Ray and Alfonso from Lenovo support the conclusion was that is an engeneering problem  and they suggested us to address the issue to this forum.
Has any else experienced this type of issue?

Hi, I purchased my Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 14 0578-A99 a week ago. My wireless internet works intermittently. It detects my wireless network properly, but fails to connect. Then suddenly, after a lot of refreshing/connecting/disconnecting it starts working. I have another Dell laptop on which it connects instantly (indicating that there is nothing wrong with the wireless router). Also, there is one icon for Intel WiFi, and one icon for Wireless Networks on my taskbar. I donot know if these are different, and which one should I enable. Is there any driver which I need to update, or is there anything I am not doing correctly to connect to wireless? Regards,Anish

Answer:Wireless internet working intermittently on Thinkpad Edge 14 0578-A99

You might want to check your power settings in windows 7.   Control panel, power options, under your power plan click change plan settings.  Then change advanced power settings, under wireless adapter settings,  power saving mode, make sure maximum performance is chosen for battery and plugged. Then also under control panel, device manager, network adapters, right click on your wireless adapter, properties, power management, uncheck, "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." FN-F5 should bring up a little window that will allow you to turn on or turn off wireless.   To connect to a network, i'm assuming that you are using windows to control your wireless.  click the bar one and open network and sharing center and connect from there. Another thing that you can do is run Thinkvantage system update and make sure that your drivers are up to date.  If you find more than one, download and install it one at a time and reboot.  Don't do them all at once, sometimes that doesn't work so well. Let us know if any of this works for you.

Dear Lenovo, I have started using ThinkPad Edge E440's and E540's in my company last year (June 2014) and have now been experiencing several horrible issues: 1. The default Windows 7 OS that came with the laptop gets corrupted when you install updates from Microsoft. This will hang after the initial restart and then will never boot again to windows not to mention 4 BSOD's before it gets totally corrupted, to a point that not even safe mode can boot into. if I do not update the OS from MS Updates, it will be working, but dead slow. I have 2 i7 8GB 1TB configuration and honest to goodness opinion my Core2Quad beats them hands down in performance.  2. The issue above will then have to be reformatted hence i have no recovery disks of Windows 7 so i have to use the Windows 8.1 recovery discs. which is a terrible OS and is not being used in our corporate setup. so then i have to use one of our licenses and this wastes our licenses because we originally ordered these laptops with windows 7. but then the same issue occurs with it hanging constantly and not able to connect to the wifi and BSOD's all around 3. After i have installed and updated windows 8.1, i will then update the drivers, and then will have to update the BIOS to 2.18 and then Wi-Fi will not work with the drivers that are found from your support site. you can only use WiFi again if you download the drivers from Intel or Realtek. 4. Suddenly my USB ports started disconnecting and reconnectin... Read more

Whenever I'm watching a video and move the laptop, the video pauses for a second or two. This is getting very annoying - I got this laptop (the 14" i3 processor) 3 months ago, is this covered by my warranty? Also, some videos on YouTube show up all green and blurry, to the point where I can't see the video at all except a fuzzy green screen.  Please help!

Answer:ThinkPad Edge Video Problems

I'm wondering if this is just my computer or if it's something that I can talk to Lenovo about - please help as I'd really really appreciate it!

I was looking into buying a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge. I initially preferred E530 (model# 62724GU) over the idepads (such as model P500) with better configurations for over a hundred and fifty dollars less only because it had thinkpad in its name.  However, I am seeing so many complaints (such as fan issues, battery drain) for E530, I am not sure if bought one it would not have defects. Has anyone got a defect free E530? What is the average battery drain time on both E530 and P500 on moderate to heavy load?

I'm looking at the new Thinkpad Edge 431 and have been hearing about the fan problems in the E430/530 series. Does anyone around here happen to have one of the new ones or can anyone find a review of the E431? Is the fan problem solved or is it still around? If it was, it would be quite the dealbreaker.

Hello . . . I have a Thinkpad Edge (Product ID 0578CT0), and the screen will not display anything. Also, using HDMI output doesn't work. On booting, the laptop screen will "flash" black a couple times, but doesn't display anything. It started a couple of days ago. . . on resume from sleep, the screen would delay in displaying, then you would see a whole bunch of scan lines and "rolling" vertical video, then it would be fine. The last time, however, it never came back. Ideas? Jim

Hello, I just ordered an E540 and it comes with an Intel 7260-N (not AC) mPCIE and it also has an unpopulated M.2 (NGFF) slot presumably for an mSATA cache option. My question is this, can I replace the wireless card with the 802.11AC equivalent? Reading online that replacing the wireless card can cause boot error, but I'm almost certain that I've seen this card (7260-AC) available as configuration option so...? I'd also like to add an mSATA drive to store my OS on and use a 1TB HDD for media (instead of using SSD then using ODD caddy for 1TB HDD, thus losing optical drive).I know that I can add an mSATA card, but where can I buy one? NGFF is fairly new so no one is selling it, and the ones that are have low capacities for high prices. Thanks, Danz207

NGFF is fairly new so no one is selling it, and the ones that are have low capacities for high prices.Note that mSATA and NGFF (now referred to as M.2) are not the same thing.  M.2 cards have a different connector and can be wired for SATA, PCIe or both.  Your laptop has the M.2 SSD slot wired for SATA, so you'll need to look at M.2 SATA SSD's, not PCIe ones.  Whether or not your machine can boot from the M.2 SSD slot will probably be a case of trial and error given that Lenovo only recommend using the M.2 slot for caching. As for available M.2 SSD products, the appropriate one depends on the available space you have.  I couldn't see which length M.2 SSD's could be used in the hardware owners manual for the E540.  However, generally the shortest is going to be 42mm, also known as 2242.  Currently the only product in that length is the MyDigitalSSD 128GB M.2 SATA SSD.  If the slot is longer, up to 80mm, then that opens up the Crucial M500/M550 M.2 SATA (2280) SSD's as an option, which are available in 120/128/240/256/480/512GB capacities.   The Crucial M500 M.2's are available all over the place.  We are still waiting on Crucial getting the M550 M.2 into regular pro... Solved. I use 'wired' to access a secure intranet, and 'wireless' for general internet use in the office and elsewhere. The wireless connection kept disappearing after I had used the wired connection. Here's a typical scenario: * Boot up with wireless only - no problem.* Plug in wired network cable - it takes over and wireless is turned off, at a deep level.* Unplug wired network cable - no connections! The wireless network does not resume.* Run the Windows network trouibleshooter to discover "wireless capability is turned off".* Pressing Function F9 and clicking the Master and Individual on-off buttons does not help.* Windows network trouibleshooter offers to fix it: accept the offer, and it works again. There has been a lot of discussion about wireless connections on various models of ThinkPad and numerous solutions offered and I've tried most of them. Finally I got to uninstall ThinkVantage Access Connections and now everything works as expected. In fact it is possible to have both networks active at the same time (for example in different browsers). Conclusion: Wired and wireless don't mix well in ThinkVantage Access Connections, so just uninstall it.

So i recently decided to buy a second hand Lenovo E520(retarded i Know). My previous work gave me the same model so i trusted it to be reliable, however 1 month after i bought it, it suddenly did not want to turn on. I got the serial number and entered it on Lenovo's site and saw it was bought end 2011(On the posts i saw everyone that bought the e520 at that stage has problems with it). So i realized i bought it 3 months out of warrantee, took it to a lenovo dealer, they then told me it was the charging point on the motherboard that was faulty so the motherboard had to be replaced. They quoted me 4700 South African Rands(Which is about  $500 US), nice price for a motherboard since the whole pc only costs R7000 in SA (About $780 US). So i bought a working Motherboard Second hand from a guy who broke his LCD and sold the rest for parts(Exactly the same model as mine 1143-AFG) for R1000($110 US). Replaced the motherboard myself, when i was done assembling again, tried to plug it in, still no power, not charging, charging lite not showing. So anyone who can maybe help me????????? Would appreciate it!!! By the way My name is ihatelenovo after this bad experience i had with Lenovo's Reliability.

I've noticed I've had this problem for a while now where when I'm charging the laptop all of a sudden the CPU useage goes sky high to 80/90% when all I'm doing is using the internet or skype (especially when using skype). I take the charger out and then everything returns to normal. This only happens sometimes when charging, not the all the time which is odd.. Anyone got any ideas?

I've got an E430 with 16gb ssd drive, and tried to use expresscache to speed up my computer.I used "eccmd.exe -info" to check out how it works and here is the result.Mounted : YesPartition Size : 14.91 GBReserved Size : 3.00 MBVolume Size : 14.91 GBTotal Used Size : 3.74 GBTotal Free Space : 11.17 GBUsed Data Size : 3.67 GBUsed Data Size on Disk : 3.74 GBAs you can see,now the "total used size" is 3.74GB which indicates that the cache has benn stored on the sdd drive. But every time I shut the computer down, and restart it, check the status, the "total used size"just return to about 300MB(maybe even lower), I wonder is this how it supposed to work like? Or this software  just doesn't function correctly on my computer, and if it does is malfunctioned, what I'm I supposed to do to fix it? Thank you...

But I noticed that after I deleted the partition, my computer's boot up time seems to be slower than before, does that partition has some thing to do with boot up time?

Hi  For about 3 weekI have been using and enjoying my new Edge S430. But I have some problems, questions: 1) I found out that i have a SSD caching disk, but it wasn't specified in the specs from the company where I bought it, no can I find much about it on the official Lenovo site. That's more of a pleasant surprise but looking in taskmanager I see that the disk isnt used at all! Anyone know what to do about it? 2)When starting taskmanager it sometimes takes up to 3 min(!) to start it and display info... 3)Sometimes when plugged in and sometimes when not, the S430 wont go to sleep (i did check the settings, all is normal). 4)When waking the realtech headphone driver isn't enabled and plugging in the headphones wont make the speakers go mute. 5)How do I disable the screen (make it go black?) I would be grateful if some of my issues are fixed/explained. Many thanks!

Answer:Thinkpad Edge S430 questions/problems

are you using the preinstalled windows 7 / 8 ? 1.) i don't know windows 8, but can you see the free space of a disk in the taskmanager? anyways here is how to check if the cache is active - open start menu - search for "cmd" - rightclick run as admin - enter "eccmd -info" post results 2.) that is very weird, never heard of that 5.) maybe there is a hotkey for the S430, elsewhise you can rightclick the power manager applet (if installed) -> turn screen off immediately. otherwise there are alternative programms that can do this for you hope i could help

If i was able to help - feel free to give Kudos

Hello! I hope you can help me. I have some problems with my Lenovo e125 thinkpad. My BIOS version is the latest (1.17) I've set the power button to sleep, and disabled the lid closing action. The first problem is, when I push the sleep button, and then close the lid, and I open it again, the computer doesn't wake up. But sometimes yes. The another (and more annoying) problem is, somethimes when I push the power button (what has set to sleep), the notebook competely restarts. My drivers are the latest, I've installed the latest AMD e450 driver from the AMD site. I hope you can help me! Thank you!

i encountered the same issue with my e325. i think i managed to solve it by setting the power button to sleep both in windows power management AND lenovo thinkvantage power manager (found in globar power settings tab). since that setting, i don't see a restart anymore and the sleep function works just fine.please try this yourself and let me know if it works for you too.

Hey Community! I'm a proud ThinkPad User now, but there are some really annoying problems I have with my ThinkPad Edge E520.My Problem: If I watch an Youtube Video on Fullscreen, there's a black bar at the right side of my screen. If I'll close Fullscreen Mode, I have to press the close Button on the right side at the bottom. But I have to press it on this black bar and not on the Button itself. This Problem isn't only at Youtube. If I play "Runes of Magic" for example, there's an black bar at the right side too, even if I play in window mode or in smaller screen resolution. I allready checked and updated everything in the ThinkVantage Toolbox, but the Problem "is still alive". What can I do to solve the problem? Chris

Hello everyone, I'm facing a problem with the Thinkpad E130 and the integrated Sierra Wireless MC8355 Gobi 3000 broadband modem. I can't use them with my SIM cards. No connection is established. I'm sure that a modem is integrated since it was specifcally ordered with it and it shows up in the device manager. What I ruled out:- Hardware defect: There is a second Thinkpad E130 with the same setup, where it doesn't work either.- Service provider problem: Tried two SIM cards from two different service providers.- SIM card problem: SIM cards work in mobile 3G router. What I did:- Shut down the notebook- Put a sim card in the slot in the back of the laptop, behind the battery.- Reboot the notebook and start the Thinkvantage Access Connections software.- The sim card usually does get detected and a suitable profile is shown automatically.- Nonethless I created a profile myself. More exactly two profiles for the two service providers. The data for the APN, etc. is gathered either from the internet or from a second software I use.- I try to connect with the profile which is automatically shown and the self-created profiles.- It tries for several minutes but then quits with an error message: 'Unable to connect to network at this time due to out of coverage or Your SIM-card may not be activated. Please see Lenovo Mobile Broadband Actviation or contact your mobile operator. Do you want to sign up now?' - I tried to connect with a second software called MWconn, which ... Read more

Just purchased 44 E530 each with Intel Centrino N2230 Wireless card.  Windows 7 installed, laptops log into a Windows domain across (Aruba) wireless AP's.  Issue with speed but mainly ability to actually login via Wireless environment.  Scenario - group 30/31 students try to log in to domain using Wireless but only 6/7 will be able to connect.  Others sit at the 'Welcome' screen.  After 5/10 minutes we reboot the laptops that haven't logged in.  Of these a few may log in this time round (allbeit slowly).  Other students reboot again and gradually a few more will be able to log in.  Others will again just sit at 'welcome' screen.  On a good session all users MIGHT be able to log in but it could take over half an hour because of repeated reboots required.  The wireless driver has been updated but this made little or no difference.  I've also set a Windows Group Policy to 'wait on login' as it was thought the issue might be the Thinkpads needing to see the Wireless LAN before the user tried to log in to the Windows domain. If one of the laptops is tested with Ethernet connection then it works as expected, so it is definitely wireless related.  any advise from anyone?

I have a brand new Lenovo Thinkpad Edge e545 with download speeds in the 0.15 mbs range. Ethernet gives it about 30 mbps. No, it is not my router--other lenovo laptop wifi connections are perfectly normal for my broadband at 25 mbps. It is windows 8.1 fully updated. I tried to find drivers and downloaded the supposedly correct wireless LAN driver, but no success. Sometimes when started plugged in to battery power or just after being plugged in to ethernet it has high wifi download speed. Also the webcam is not showing picture, which driver should I download? And I am getting an audio driver fail notice. This is a brand new laptop, and Lenovo is quickly losing a loyalty. The only way they would help me on their renowned customer service site is if I paid $99.99. Any info is appreciated.

Answer:Wireless 5GHZ bandwidth range support in ThinkPad Edge E520? Answer: NO

Thanks for this info.  I've been having a problem with my wireless connection that I think might be related to this -- your input would be much appreciated. Computer: Thinkpad Edge E520, i5, 500GB, 4GB RAM, Intel WiFi Link 1000 wireless card; running Windows 7 Basically, if I'm in the same room as the router, I get wireless connection, and it's fine.  If I round the corner into the hallway and beyond, I can see the network, but no connectivity.  I've done the whole "updating to most current driver" business, as well as everything that Lenovo support told me to do.  I reset my router (not that I thought that was the problem, since 2 other laptops in the apartment get a connection no problem, and I also couldn't connect to a network at a coffee shop...) then even uninstalled the ThinkVantage Access Connections just in case it and Windows were fighting over who gets to control my internet connection.  Finally, after all this, Lenovo sent me a replacement wireless card (same one) under warranty, so I replaced the card -- no dice. I finally changed my router settings to WPA2 AES, and this has improved the situation *slightly* -- I can now connect, but so extremely slowly that it's useless. Do you think that the fault lies with the card and its inability to tap the 5gHz spectrum?

I have Thinkpad Edge E431 which has two PCI Express card slot of different form factor. The first one being PCI Express Mini Card slot occupied by Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 and the second slot is PCI Express M.2 Card slot for SSDs/WWAN card. I have been searching WWAN Card with PCI Express M.2 form factor but unable to find one in my locality. However, there are vendors in my locality selling WWAN card which is compatible with PCI Express Mini Card slot.My question being, is it possible to remove the Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 and replace it with WWAN card. It also has SIM Card slot underneath the battery.I have modded the BIOS so there shouldn't be any problem of laptop rejecting the card. Thanks in advance and any help would be really appriciated.  RegardsKemun

I have upgraded my Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E545 to Windows 10 recently and since then I have been having increasing problems to connect to WiFi. It is not a problem with the WiFi itself, since I can connect with my phone and tablet without any problems and my husband has not had any problems with his laptop either. It started with just having to try to connect a couple of times (clicking disconnect and then connect again) in the beginning. Then it took restarting the computer. And now I can't connect anymore no matter how often I try or whatever I try. Initially I got an error message regarding the IP address when using the troubleshoot, but now it just can't find the problem. I have read that it could be a problem with the WiFi driver, which may need an update for Windows 10. The driver listed is Realtek RTL8188E LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC. I have not been able to find this driver or any update for it on the Realtek website. I have not been able to find anything on the Lenovo or Windows website, or anywhere else for that matter, either. I have read posts by other users who are having similar issues, but I haven't been able to find a solution. Please let me know how I can solve this problem. Thank you.

Dear KVW,

Welcome in lenovo community,
Lenovo did not release all windows 10 drivers for the E545 laptop yet,
So you may go back to the previous windows and wait till lenovo release all the drivers.
Also you can use the below link to follow the drivers update,

I purchased 4 of these for my company in December 2011 and today have had to arrange for the 3rd one to be returned to Lenovo with the same problem.  The battery stops charging and will not hold charge and will not run unless powered into ac supply. The laptop will then not power on at all, completely dead no lights / sounds etc and when returned the previous 2 they have replaced the motherboard and have had no problems since. Even though have had this problem with 2 of the others Lenovo Technical Support have still said have to return it at my expense which because of the data included on it have had to return special delivery costing £25 a time. They are returned withuin 7 days but think there may be a problem as this is a 75% failure rate. Anybody else had this problem as is putting me off buying anymore?

One option would be to download a legal Windows 7 ISO and install it.  Or borrow one.  You can use the product key on the bottom of your machine (or in the battery compartment) to activate the installation.  You may have to use the phone option to activate.

Working Legal Windows 7 Download Links

To do this you must install the same version of Windows that came on your machine - but it can be either 32 or 64 bit.

Your machine came with Win7 Home Basic 32.  I can't say for certain that these "all version" ISOs include that version, but you can try and see.

Once you have Windows installed, go to the Lenovo support page and enter your machine type.  That will take you to a list of drivers and apps to download.  Expand the ThinkVantage option and install ThinkVantage System Update.  You can then run it and it will download and install the other software automatically.

I'm basing this on what I see on the US pages.  Yours may be different.

Good luck,
Z.

Hello,With my previous Thinkpad X61s I was able to press Fn key and use some alpha keys as a numeric keypad but with my new Thinkpad X1 there is no such feature. I have some applications which do require the use of numeric keypad (note that the keycodes received by the OS are not the same if the normal numeric keys are used). Please, do not suggest to plug an external USB keypad or keyboard, that's, of course, a solution (which I don't like at all). Anyone has some suggestion to overcome this problem somehow? Thanks!Kind regardsBoyan

Answer:Numeric Keypad (on Fn+alpha keys) missing on Thinkpad X1 and Thinkpad Edge

As you are experiencing Fn+ alpha numeric keys are not working, I would suggest you to please update the Power Manager software and also update the Bios of your system from the below mentioned web link.

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?

After this, please restart the system and check if the issue resolved.

Thanks & Regards,
Sameer

Hello, I just bought an Edge 15 and I'm wondering if backlight bleed is a common problem with it. There are several places around the edge of the display where the backlight discolors the screen. I've attached a picture; note the top edge of the screen especially. Is this normal, or is it worth looking into a repair?  Also, I'm surprised that this model does not appear on Lenovo's website at all. I have only found one review for it, and it seems Best Buy was the only one to sell it. Anyone know about that? EDIT: Apparently my thread was moved to the ThinkPad Edge forum, though I'm pretty sure that this is not a ThinkPad Edge series device (as far as I can tell that series was discontinued and this was not ThinkPad branded). If someone could clarify that would be awesome. Thanks!

I have a ThinkPad 431 with Windows 7 the BIOS  turned on for always on.I switched on the USB option always on in lenovo utility. Thinkpad has 3 USB ports, two on the left and one on the right. The one on the right works when the thinkpad is in hibernation. The left ones don't. When thinkpad is on, all ports charge. Is this by design or is there a problem with my Thinkpad unit. I really realy need two ports for charging.

Answer:ThinkPad Edge 431 Powered USB charging at only one port when thinkpad is in hibernate

I should mention that I don't have any yellow USB port. Neither the left or the right ones have yellow.

Hi everyone, I'm wanting to buy a new laptop and currently deciding between this ThinkPad Edge E540 (479 Euros) and this refurbished ThinkPad T420 (299 Euros) I'll be using this almost exclusively for working with audio (music production, DJing, recording & listening to music) and almost nothing else - I run Ableton and Traktor which are quite CPU-heavy so the processor is quite important.Whichever I bought I would be taking the DVD drive out and putting in a SSD for the OS and my programs, and I would also be adding an extra 4GB of RAM.I don't have much money at the moment so the 180 Euros I'd save by buying the refurb would be very appreciated, however I really don't want to compromise the speed/lifespan of my laptop.---So my question is, how much do you think a 3-4 year old T420 (which from what I understand are one of the best laptops ever made) would compare to a brand new Edge E540 in terms of speed, and which do you think would last longer?---Thanks in advance for your input.

I have an IBM Wireless X40. I have been using a Belkin wireless card to get wireless signal and to connect to a wireless network but the connection is usually very unreliable. My friend suggested that maybe my laptop actually has wireless built into it, and that I am therefore creating a conflict by trying to use my Belkin card and using Belkin to connect to a wireless network. Can anyone give advice on how i should use wireless with my laptop? Thanks!

Answer:Wireless Problems with IBM Thinkpad X40

If the laptop has a wireless adapter built in and you plug a second adapter in, the Network Connections folder should show two "Wireless Network Connections". Device Manager should also display details of two separate wireless adapters. Having two installed shouldn't actually cause a conflict and you can always right click one and select "Disable".Changing the channel number used by your wireless network might improve stability - the default is normally "11", try changing to 8 or 6 in the router's settings to see if that improves stability. Also ensure that you don't have cordless or mobile phones located close to either the router or the laptop, as these can interfere with the radio signal.

Hello forum,I have a new Thinkpad T30 from work and whatever I do I don't seem to be able to get it to connect to my wireless network.A wireless card is definitely installed and in device manager is apparently "working properly" but when I try to list available networks it does not find any and responds as if the network adapter is switched off...for example it does not make any effort to even search for them like laptops usually do when all is working well.I know the wirless network is fine because my other laptop finds it and connects without trouble. Its like the network adapter is not even switched on...but I cannot find a switch to turn the adapter on or off.Any ideas?Thanks:-)

Make sure the IBM utility is installed and running that handles the wireless facility. My acer wouldnt connect in exactly the same way it took me weeks to work out why. I cannot remember the name of the IBM utility but its available on the restore CDs or click hereI could find no other work arounds for this problem myself.

I have an IBM thinkpad T30 that I bought with no hard drive. I have installed a hard drive and installed Windows XP. All drivers installed sucessfully from the IBM website except the wireless drivers. I installed the chipset drivers first. It doesn't show up as a network adapter in device manager it shows as network controller with the yellow icon next to it. I have used 3DP and belarck to identify the card but the manufacturer drivers don't work either. I know it not a problem with the card because the wireless connection wizard in Puppy Linux detects the card with ease. In Puppy Linux it shows the card as an Intersil Prism card?? Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Greetings everyone, I have recently done a clean install of Vista Ultimate on my laptop with SP1. Once completed, downloaded and ran theThinkvantage System Update app and let it rip. Got all the IBM software, and then untied my laptop from its wired tether.Wireless ran OK for a little while, then would intermittently just drop all data. I would be durfing fine (able to ping a site like Google at under 100ms). When I lose connectivity... I couldn't ping an outside server like Google... but also couldn't even get a ping off of my router/gateway.Proceeded to go back on the wired connection, and my connection was back to normal. I wan Windows Update and fully updated all drivers and programs, now I cannot get anything. I have a 2007-63U model T60 with the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG adaptor. While the Access Connections and Vista's wireless manager show me as connected, DHCP assigned IP, full signal strength... I cannot load even the simplest of sites or ping out. Occasionally (maybe once every 5 minutes) I'll get a moment where I can load a page, but it quickly goes away. I tried System Restore to an earlier point, manually removing the software and drivers and re-installing, all with no luck. Anyone have a solution? Thanks much!Alex

I need to restart my Windows again. Then it works and disconnects again. It's been like this everyday, many times aday.  I uninstall IBM ThinkVantage but the problem did not solve. Sometimes when I restarts the wireless internet works but my keyboard or sounds do not work. It's so annoying. If anyone have these problems, please advice me at once. I cannot do my work on this unstable laptop anymore. Thanks alot

Hi all,

I have an end user with a Lenovo Thinkpad T61 that cannot locate the wireless network we have set up in our office. "No wireless networks were found in range" is the message we get when trying to locate our network using the Wireless Network Connection utility. I checked Device Manager to see if his wireless card (Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AG) was disabled or not functioning properly, but it is working fine. All the required drivers are also installed.

The router we use at the office is a Linksys WRT160N V3. Anyone have any ideas how to solve this problem?

-Anton

Answer:Wireless problems with Lenovo Thinkpad T61

First, welcome to TechSpot, good to have you here. I?m somewhat new myself, so I?m still figuring things out. Now, I know this may be elementary for you, but here?s a link to the Windows Vista networking help page: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/88ea056e-664a-4c3d-b977-13f79cb4dedb1033.mspx.

I?m not terribly familiar with the T61 (worked mostly with 43s). Does it have a physical WiFi on/off switch? Sometimes those can be the culprits.

Cheers,

Answer:ThinkPad T400 (6475-FP1) - Can't turn off Bluetooth & Wireless problems

As far as bluetooth, Fn + F5 will let you turn off the radio. You can also go into the BIOS under security/I-O Port Access and disable it. As far as the 5100 wireless card, there is a note on the intel site that says this: "If your system had Windows 7 and Intel PROSet/Wireless Software installed prior to upgrading to Windows 8, then Intel PROSet/Wireless Software will not install the first time. You need to install Intel PROSet/Wireless Software a second time for it to install correctly." I would suggest the newest drivers from the Intel site. If you go here, they will make suggestions:http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect/wireless

Hey guys! I seem to have a persistent problem with my two Lenovo Thinkpad X200, which I simply can't manage to figure it. I have recently restored the computers to factory settings, which meant downgrading from Windows 8 to Windows Vista Business 32-Bit.Now, everything with the installation went as planned until I had to test if everything was working. A lot of the drivers seem to be missing and since I do not still have the original manufacturer's disc, I do not know what to do. I downloaded the ethernet driver from Lenovo's website and that is now fully functional.I have also tried everything in regards to making the wireless internet work, but without any luck. When I try connecting to the wireless internet, Windows simply can't detect any networks and when I try using Windows function to find a solution to the problem it simply says "This computer does not have a wireless network adapter installed and configured".   I have tried downloading all the wireless lan driver for Windows Vista 32-bit from Lenovo's website, but I still cannot get the wireless network to work. Any help would be highly appreciatedThank you in advance

Hi everyone, I'm after some advice about what to do abut my laptop's wireless card. I've got a ThinkPad L430, which is a couple of years old but I won in a raffle and have just started using from brand new. The laptop came with Windows 8, and from the start had issues with the Wireless card (ThinkPad 1x1 11b/G/N Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter) randomly appearing and disappearing from Device Manager. When adding some RAM I resecured the wireless card and that seemed to make it more reliable, but still the signal went in and out regularly. I've since updated to Windows 10, and while the rest of the laptop works great, the wirless has become so unreliable that I have turned to using a USB WiFi dongle. Now, while previously unused, my L430 is out of warranty to get this repaired - so I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations to replace the current wireless card with? I would prefer not to always have to fill a USB socket. Thanks for any pointers!

just recently bought my first laptop and got good recommendations on lenovo...however i have found everything else to be fairly frustrating. There are no instructions regarding inital battery setup to ensure lengevity in the box. i called customer service. i looked online. they directed me to go back online and read a manual which still did not have the proper information and was organized extremely poorly. basically im just venting a little about my lack of satisfaction and wondering how to get the most out of battery/. I have looked everywhere.

Answer:New Thinkpad edge 14

New owner here also. There was limited documentation in the box, and on the last pages of something that looked like generic policy / license info, I found a few basic instructions. Of note, the battery may not have full capacity until it has been fully charged and discharged for several cycles. Agreed documentation is not the best, but everything is pretty straightforward, except detailed configurations, which is always trial and error. So far, I really like the notebook.

Recently, my HDD has begun to grind to a halt on my Thinkpad Edge e420. I decided to replace the HDD to an SSD, and after many, many unsuccessful attempts to reinstall the OS via Rescue and Recovery, cloning the drive etc, I decided to install the OS onto the new SSD using a windows disk. While this seems to have worked, I now no longer have any of the preinstalled Lenovo software. This is disappointing, but also seems to have reduced the functionality of the laptop (eg the networking device is no longer recognised).Could anyone please recommend a method of reinstalling the Lenovo software onto this new SSD.

Answer:Thinkpad Edge 420 HDD to SSD

Windows 7 right? Download ThinkVantage System Update, it should download most of the drivers and applicable softwares for your E420.

Hello, I am going to be using this laptop for Senior School, already 1 term in and am hating the laptop we recieved 2 years ago. I would prefer if a Lenovo Staff or Moderator can confirm if this is possible to buy as it's not on the Customize page. With the 14" model, I can get the 9 cell battery option but no choice of the Intel Centrino Advanced 6200N wireless card, and with the 15" model I can't get either.
