Preferred Solution: Is keyboard in Edge E530 as same as in Edge E540?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an E540, and the left side of the keyboard keeps getting loose, as seen here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/16602688/2014-04-07%2003.28.26%201.jpgThe same clips fit snugly on the right side of the keyboard. Is this normal? Should I try removing the keyboard and putting it back? I've found the guide here. This is really annoying, since the keyboard makes a rattling sound if this is not fitted properly, I have to push it back once or twice a day.

Answer:ThinkPad Edge E540 keyboard issue

Hi,Had the same problem with a brand new Lenovo Edge E540. About a dozen keys were not fitting properly - with the keyboard looking just like the one on your picture.Overall working with the notebook was not possible because of the loud rattling sound the keys made. Also some keys could not be operated well, due to getting stuck.I'm pretty upset since I had ordered the notebook via express and just had to give it back the same day. Testing another Edge E540 at the store, the keyboard there was not much better.

My keyboard on my new ThinkPad Edge E530 (running windows 8) just randomly stopped working. Its possible that one of my children hit some hot keys and locked the keyboard, but I'm not sure. Ive researched a lot and tried everything I can think of and I still have the problem. Sometimes when I press the keys it will make an error type sound/tone, but not always. Has anyone had this issue? And how can I fix this???

It is Double Data Rate RAM (DDR RAM) so you have to multiply the 800 mhz x 2 = 1600 mhz.

Hey Guys, i've tried to upgrade my 4GB RAM in the Thinkpad Edge E540 with another 4GB module.System boots fine with both RAM's (old and new) separately (independent of which RAM-Slot is used). The trouble begins when I insert both 4GB RAM modules. Windows boot results in a blue screen and restart. Restarting the System in safe mode works though, BIOS and Task manager detect 8192MB of RAM and everything seems to work. Here are some specs of the modules and the system (CPU-Z):OS: Win7 professionalMOBO: lenovo, model 20C60041GEBIOS: J9ET61WW (1.61), Date: 03/21/2014RAM (old): Samsung, 4GB, PC3-12800(800MHz), part number M471B5173QH0-YK0, serial number 14E6F638, 01/14, DDR3, voltage 1.35VRAM(new): Samsung, 4GB, PC3-12800(800MHz), part number M471B5173EB0-YK0, serial number 3257DCED, 19/16, DDR3, voltage 1.35V Maybe the RAM modules are incompatible (even though they look the specs are similar)?I have no clue how to progress, so if you have any idea what might cause this problem please let me know.Every help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Question: Thinkpad Edge E540

I have an interesting situation, just bought this laptop literally a week ago and noticed this happens on a very frequent basis. Right now the trackpoint is disabled and touchpad is enabled. So that makes the lower right hand corner the right click and the remainder the left click. Well at randomn times the entire touchpad will become a right click and will stay right click. No matter where I click on the touchpad the pop up menu will display. I also noticed that when this happens the touchpad is very sensitive, if i place a finger on it and stay there it will move around the screen. It is completly random there is no consistency what so ever. Anyone have any suggestions. When this happened, I have managed to get to the mouse properties and nothing has changed. A restart will not fix the issue. It has to be a shutdown then turn on again to fix the issue.

Hello,I have upgraded my recently bought E530 from 8GB memory to 16GB and installed a larger capacity SSD instead of the factory one. Now I'm not an expert user but I know how to do a few things. I downgraded from Win 8 to Win 7 due to mere preference issues and the OS is now on the new 60GB Intel SSD. The laptop boots up rather quickly and I couldn't wish for more (although I cannot really remember whether Win 8, when it was still installed, booted quicker or not). But: on my old laptop I used to hibernate the PC very often and now when I once tried to do the same here, I noticed that it takes significantly longer for the PC to resume from hibernation than to cold boot from a complete shutdown. What could be the reason? How do I make sure that the new SSD I have is optimized and configured to its maximum abilities? I downloaded an utility from the Intel website called 'Intel SSD Toolbox' and what I can do there is a simple 'trim' procedure. But I know there's things like ExpressCache, Intel Rapid Start etc that I could perhaps use? So there I am. The laptop boots quite fast from a shutdown, but from hibernation it's significantly longer. How do I really maximise the performance of the SSD that I have? What can I look into? Thanks for reading and looking forward to your (simply written step-by-step guide) replies  Cheers,Amont

Answer:Edge E530 SSD optimization

Hey guys/girls!  I'm looking for a solution to a problem I have concerning my Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E530 (1 year old). My setup is:Win 8.1 - 64xCore i/-3632QM8GB RAMNVidia GeForce GT635M- Anything else you need to know, please tell me.   The issue: My computer won't shut down anymore. This started happening from "out of nowhere". Instead it just gets EXTREMELY hot ang keeps working until all the battery is used up. Only way to completely shut it down is by holding down the power button. - Furthermore booting takes MUCH longer han it used to.  What I've done: 1 - Reinstalled Win 8 from recovery partion 3 times (reset everything). -> The issue was still there afterwards.2 - Tried running the different diagnostic tools from the boot up/bios menu. -> All passed.3 - Tried running startup repair from recovery partition. - This couldn't be done since the process "could't load Windows". <- Might be wrong translation. - Instead it suggests I recover to a previous state. (Which I don't have, since it's a clean install) Also, I've vacuumed the cooling fan. It was pretty dirty..  I'm sorry if I haven't given enough you information. Please tell me what information you need, and I'll do my best to give it to you. Is there another way to run startup repair, when I don't have a disc?Is there anything else you can suggest that I try? Have a nice day,Regards David

Hi thedatazoo, Don't worry, this only indicates there's power pass through your machine. The light will keep on even when you remove battery. And your battery will stop charging when it reach full charge (charge level can be customised in Power Manager). And you can always monitor your battery's condition in power manager. Hope this helpsFred

Hi everyone, I'm wanting to buy a new laptop and currently deciding between this ThinkPad Edge E540 (479 Euros) and this refurbished ThinkPad T420 (299 Euros) I'll be using this almost exclusively for working with audio (music production, DJing, recording & listening to music) and almost nothing else - I run Ableton and Traktor which are quite CPU-heavy so the processor is quite important.Whichever I bought I would be taking the DVD drive out and putting in a SSD for the OS and my programs, and I would also be adding an extra 4GB of RAM.I don't have much money at the moment so the 180 Euros I'd save by buying the refurb would be very appreciated, however I really don't want to compromise the speed/lifespan of my laptop.---So my question is, how much do you think a 3-4 year old T420 (which from what I understand are one of the best laptops ever made) would compare to a brand new Edge E540 in terms of speed, and which do you think would last longer?---Thanks in advance for your input.

Answer:New Edge E540 vs Refurbished T420

If CPU is very important, go with the E540, but it's not a huge difference.Assuming you'll be locking in the multiplier to maximum base to minimize DPC latencies, the i5-2520M has a base clock of 2.5GHz, and the i5-4210M has a base clock of 2.6GHz (effectively ~2.86GHz with the ~10% IPC increase from Sandy Bridge to Haswell). You can close this gap a bit by trying to find a T420 with an i7-2620M or i7-2640M, which have base clocks 2.7 and 2.8GHz, respectively.mSATA SSDs are also more economical for the T420, compared to the NGFF SSDs of the E540.

So I've looked everywhere for a specific motherboard that was installed in certain E540 models. Right now I only have the one with Intel HD 4600, however I have been looking tirelessly for one with the Nvidia GPU without paying for a new E540 from overseas. Are there any better ways to find such a part? I do have the list of part numbers, but most yield no results, sadly.

The PLANARS section lists the system boards that were configured for this machine. The FRU P/Ns should help you to source what you seek.

But you need to know few things before you take a decision to install the non-lenovo product. Any functionally equivalent product, program, or service that does not infringe any Lenovo intellectual property right may be used instead. However, it is your responsibility to evaluate and verify the operation of any other product, program, or service.

Regarding the OS installation in SSD, OS will only boot up faster with a solid-state drive. That being said, if you perform any operating system related task that needs to retrieve data from the drive, it will be much faster than if your OS was on the HDD. That being said, if you only care about loading subsequent programs (or logistically prefer keeping your OS separate), you can easily keep the SSD as a secondary drive, only using it for certain programs/tasks. The whole point of a solid-state drive is to decrease application loading times

Please let us know, whether the above steps helped you.
Thank you, have a good day.

Hi, I have a brand new Edge E540 with a freshly installed Windows 7 Professional x64. I have all the newest drivers, but when I play audio I experience dropouts, which I suspect to be due to high DPC Latency. According to Latency Mon the main culprit is ndis.sys, closely followed by my USB drivers (iusb3xhc.sys, or if I uninstall that, USBPORT.sys). There are a few others with much higher latency than they should have, as you can see here: Disabling Wi-Fi gets rid of ndis.sys which helps quite a lot, but I'd quite like to be able to listen to music and use the internet at the same time. There are two different WLAN drivers on the Lenovo website and I've tried both but to no avail. I've also tried all the standard changing Power Management options and that kind of thing, and am at a complete loss at what to do next.

Answer:High DPC Latency with the Edge E540

This is odd, i never had that problem on my machine... E540, core i7 4702MQ ...Try disabling USB3.0 in the bios, and put it in 2.0 mode and check it.USB 3.0 has lot's of problems under win 7 ...I used windows 7 only for two weeks on my laptop, because i bought 8... anyway on windows 8, everything is fine. Also what kind of USB devices do you have connected. Because some device could be USB3 incompatible or with bad USB cable/connection and could be flooding the USB controler.Usb 3 is way more capricious than 2.0, especially with longer than 3 meters cables.P.S. Oh i forgot to mention that there used to be reported some "cracking" noises with the older bios versions, so also try updating the BIOS to the latest.

Hi all, TPM cannot be found on my new E540 (20C6).Neither by the TPM console nor by Bitlocker. I looked around in the BIOS / UEFI but with no luck.Upgrade to the latest BIOS is installed, also ALL other updates which would be shown to me by Lenovo Update AND Windows Update are installed. Somewhere it was written that one would need to install Intel Small Business Advantage (which is also installed automatically by Lenovo Solutions for Small Business) but neither Intel Small Business Advantage nor Lenovo Solutions for Small Business will install. Errormessage is: 'This system does not support the installation of  Intel Small Business Advantage'. Is there a (hidden) BIOS option or any other trick to enable the TPM module? Additional Info:Im running Windows 8.1 Pro. Device Manager reports 2 problems:- Intel Wireless Bluetooth 4.0 + HS-Adapter (digital signature of the driver cannot be checked)- IWD Bus Enumerator (there are two of those, one working, the other cannot load drivers due to the object name being already existant) Lenovo Solution Center is listing an 'Unknown device' which I cannot find in the device manager (also not when activating 'show also hidden elements').

I was looking into buying a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge. I initially preferred E530 (model# 62724GU) over the idepads (such as model P500) with better configurations for over a hundred and fifty dollars less only because it had thinkpad in its name.  However, I am seeing so many complaints (such as fan issues, battery drain) for E530, I am not sure if bought one it would not have defects. Has anyone got a defect free E530? What is the average battery drain time on both E530 and P500 on moderate to heavy load?

I believe that the only laptops in Lenovo's multiple product lines that have multi-touch displays (pen + finger) are the tablet PCs, like the X230T and some of the IdeaPads. If I'm mistaken, I'm sure a Lenovo expert will be along shortly to correct me, but at this point I'd say you don't have 'touch' capability on your Edge.

Hi there, I have a couple of old but fully functional Thinkpad E530 and 531 laptops. They came with mechanical HDD. I will like to upgrade the HDD to a SSD. Can you please tell me if it is possible to install an SSD disk on those models and what model/brand should I consider. Thanks!

Answer:Best SSD for Thinkpad Edge E530 and e531

Hi Osipr,

Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.

As I understand that you have query regarding upgrading SSD in your E530 and E531 laptops.
As per psref E531 supports SSD in some models: Solid State Drive (SSD) / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm high.

And following is the list of SSDs compatible with E531

04X0928  SSD            128G Samsung - Primary
04X0931  SSD            128G LiteOn - Secondary
04X4752  SSD            SATA 128G Samsung
04X4754  SSD            SATA 128G Lite-On

Source

And for E530 as per psref it only supports mSATA SSD in some models 16GB mSATA Solid State Drive (SSD), via PCIe Mini Card slot which is used for Cache for Lenovo Hard Disk Drive Performance Booster
Note ? Some model also come with SSD but that depends on location and for US only mSATA model is there.

And following is the list of mSATA drives compatible with E530

45N8331         mSATA 16GB SanDisk Cache
45N8375         mSATA 16GB Samsung Cache

Source

I hope the above information helped you.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

I have a Thinkpad Edge with a GeForce GT 630M, switchable with an integrated Intel graphics solution.Apparently the 630M has uninstalled itself. I didn't realise this until COD: Ghosts started crashing and I tried to open the Nvidia control panel - nope, "An NVIDIA graphics card was not detected in your system". So I tried to reinstall the drivers - nope, not detected. What the hell's going on?

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E530 broken.

Hi Yiri,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that you are getting an error message stating ?An NVIDIA graphics card was not detected in your system? in your Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E530.

Make sure NVIDIA GPU is not disabled in BIOS. If you set it to optimus, then only you can get the switchable option for switching between on board graphics and NVDIA.

Restart your system and get in to safe mode. Go to device manager and uninstall the NVIDIA drivers. Run NVIDIA Smart Scan which will auto-detect the latest version of driver compatible for your system and install it.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Answer:Which SSD does the ThinkPad Edge E530 N4F6LMN use?

Perhaps there is something special for that model but I believe most (all?) E530 use the 16GB mSATA ssd available from Lenovo. It's about $40.  It's designed to be used for caching not secondary storage.  If you get it, you can download the proper ExpressCache SW and use the product code in the front of the ssd manual to install it. My concern about using a larger drive in that slot (miniPCI) is if there is sufficient amperage. You can also obtain a third-party HDD caddy to replace the optical drive for additional secondary storage. Of course, I'm assuming that either of these 'upgrades' might void your warranty.

I bought the ThinkPad Edge E530 (3259), but after many attempts, I managed to install bluetooth. I press Fn + F5 to open the control panel to enable the WiFi and Bluetooth radios, I installed acces point. In the Control Panel under "Device Manager" in the control panel have any yellow exclamation sign if its your bluetooth device or bluetooth not written anywhere. The BIOS is included enable Bluetooth. I start installing one of the two drivers, I get this message

I'm also having problems with finding a way to enable the Bluetooth adapter. Unusual is that the Wi-Fi is working (I think the adapter for Wi-Fi and for Bluetooth is the same), but bluetooth doesn't. Hope to find a solution soon!

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E530 BIOS

Hi,

As per your query on BIOS setting, I suggest you to enable the 'OS Optimized Defaults' option only when you want to install Windows 8 64bit Operating System.

If you are installing Windows 7 Operating System then 'OS Optimized Defaults' option is not required for that.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

The touchpad seems to be a bit loose. When you put your finger on it, it moves down about 0.5mm. This might not seem like a lot of movement but it's still enough to be annoying. And you also hear a dim click sound when you put your finger to it when the touchpad "hits" the surface below it - which is especially noticable when 'tapping to click'. Is this enough reason for to use the warranty to get the laptop repaired? The video below illustrates my problem exactly on another model of laptop, in my case it's not nearly as severe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfN752lZ8rY Any advise on what to do? I don't want to be picky but this is a really annoying problem for me, makes the laptop feel like it's made badly and I can't ignore it.  The laptop is only a couple of days old.

In a search of a decent "off-the-shelf" music production/DAW laptop solution I consider ThinkPad Edge E530 as a potential purchase (provided Lenovo fixes the fan noise issue). By reading this forum, I've acquired most of the info I need but various specs sheets I see around have left me confused so I'd like to confirm some facts. My questions are as follows: 1. I've read in here that ALL ThinkPad Edge E530 models come with a PCI Express mini Card / WWAN slot which would allow a mSSD to be installed. This is a crucial feature for me as I plan to buy a mSSD and install Windows 7 Pro there (I don't care about the caching feature) so I want to be perfectly sure all / the models I am looking at do come with a mSata slot indeed. In particular, I am looking at the NZQM9UK and N4F29UK models and I see no mSata slot reported in specs (unless I am missing something ofcourse). Specs can be found here:NZQM9UK and N4F29UK Btw, any idea what could explain the price difference between the two? 2. Likewise, different spec sheets mention different RAM upgradability. The NZQM9UK version I am linking for example shows maxium ram supported being 8 GB. Along with the mSSD, another big factor for choosing this laptop is the ability to upgrade it up to 16 GB of RAM so I can't afford getting stuck with a model that can only support 8 GB. I honestly don't want to doubt people who've said that *it should* have an mSata slot/go up to 16 but when it comes to spending so much money I w... Read more

Answer:Some ThinkPad Edge E530 questions.

I don't know the answers to all of your questions but I do have a couple of comments.  First of all Thinkpads come from the business side of the computer world.  Not that they are not multipurpose computers but their specs tend to favor business like use.  I just purchased a E530 and am happy with it but based on your intended use there may be other options.  Have you considered asking on music production sites what kind of laptop people are using?  One of the great advantages of the Internet is getting feedback from like-minded end users. Even though the E530 has Dolby the sound end of things seems to be weak.  You must use a 4 conductor phone/mic combo since there is no dedicated mic input.  The built-in speakers work fine but don't expect THX! I believe all E530's have the PCI Express Card mini slot.  It is designed for a 16GB mSATA ssd or a WWAN card. I have read of others putting larger ssd's inorder to install the OS but I would caution you that the slot has electrical specs and may not support the current required for a larger ssd over time.  An ssd is just a memory stick and produces heat and requires current so even if it works battery life is likely to be reduced. Sorry I can't be of more help.  Good luck with your decision.

Does the mSATA port on the Edge E530 support SATA 6.0 Gb/s? I plan to buy a Kingston mS200, which has sequential read and write speeds over 500 MB/s, so using it with a SATA 3.0 Gb/s (300 MB/s) would not make much sense. Thanks in advance!

Here's an idea for the Product Team - find out who designed the Edge E540 and send him/her/them back to design school. I've just purchased one of these - only to find that it has two design faults. Number one - the mouse pad is far too clunky, and at the same time too sensitive. Number two - and for me an important one - there is no charge indicator light, so the only way of telling what the battery state is, and whether or not the laptop is fully charged, is to switch the laptop on. If I'd known about this before I purchased it, I would not have done so. I cannot imagine what the designer was thinking when he or she decided to omit this important indication. I'm going to ask the supplier if they will swap it for a different brand.

Answer:Lenovo Edge E540 feature feedback

Malcom,

Thanks for the feedback..   As a suggestion, you might check for a later touchpad driver from our support site and also see if you can adjust the sensitivity settings in the control panel.

Point taken on the indicator lights.    I've seen a reduction in indicator lights on various models and we are noting the customer feedback.  I certainly find them valuable and hope that future designs will put them back.

Best regards,

Mark

The Thinkpad Edge E540 currently comes with Windows 7 preinstalled, Windows 8 added as recovery disk. It is also suffering from an issue, where the fan will spin unnecessarily fast until going to standby and waking up again. As a solution it was suggested to use the Power Manager utility [1]. However, the download page [2] lists the Power Manager only for Windows 7 (and indeed it won't install on Windows 8.1).  Does this mean that the Power Manager is not available for Windows 8? Hey what do you think, would it be possible to somehow form a RAID SSD system inside Thinkpad Edge E530? Same type as Acer Aspire S7 which is famous of its high performance. So probably it would be raid 0. For example you put 256GB mSata SSD and 256GB 2.5" SSD and form a raid 0 of them. I guess the best would be to have the same SSDs (e.g. Samsung PM830 in mSata and Samsung 8300 in 2.5", which I hope are very similar). Maybe the big problem would be to buy a good mSata drive because retailers dont have them...?   Do you have any idea how it is implemented in Acer Aspire S7 (or S5). Is it a hardware RAID so that OS sees it as a single disk or a software raid (combined inside OS) ...?    If RAID is not possible do you think you would achive high performance just by MSata SSD (e.g. 128GB Samsung), where you would install OS, and then have the 2.5" slot for 1TB hard drive, and in addition optical drive...?

Answer:mSata + 2.5" together in RAID (thinkpad edge e530)...?

E530 doesn't support RAID. mSATA slot on the E530 is a SATAII connection, while the main hdd bay and optical drive bay is SATAIII. If you don't need the optical drive, then you can remove it and install a hdd drive caddy in it.

Hi Everyone,So i have had my thinkpad edge for 3 months now and ever since i got it i have felt a lack of build quality. And it has finally annoyed me so much that i need to fix it, the keyboard/bezel around the bottom half of laptop is very loose in the top left corner and on the left of my touchpad if you put any pressure on it, it squeaks/screeches so loud and flexxes really badly(the plastic overlaps the bottom). Has anyone else had fitment/ quality issues with thier e530? and if so how did you fix it because i know lenovo wont help me over this(and i dont want to send it away). Thanks Anthony

Answer:Edge E530 build quality issue

My E530 squeaks very much on the front left side where the palmrest covers the speakergrill. On the right front, just below the T from the thinkpad logo, it also squeaks. So typing is really fun... On the top next to the left hinge, the cover is loose right to were the vga port is. And it can't be clicked together.  Great build quality for an almost 900euro laptop...oh and the thing is 4 months old and hasn't been moved at all.

I bout an Acer external monitor yesterday and hooked it up to my ThinkPad Edge.  I haven't really changed any of the settings.  My problem is that the picture on the external monitor does not look right (i.e., it is stretched and runs off the screen, with black appearing at the top of the screen) unless I right click the desktop and click on "graphics options" and then output to extended desktop and then built-in display + monitor.  Once I click this, then the picture is correct on my external monitor.  However, if my screen saver comes on or I restart my computer, then the picture is back to messed up.  Are there some settings I need to fix to get it to remember how I want it to look?

Hi, ashionista

After connecting the externalm monitor, right-click on the desktop and select Screen resolution. Once here, you will be able to set the order, resolution, and other settings of the external monitor. You can keep tweaking the settings until everything looks perfect, even when the screen saver comes on. This guide from Microsoft should be able to help you as well.
Best of luck,

As per your concern battery is not charging properly it shows shows plugged in.

If your battery has much lesser capacity or does not charge at certain level any longer, you may want to perform a gauge reset on the battery.
Double-click the green "Power Manager" battery icon near the Windows' system clock, usually at the lower-right corner of the screen. If you cannot find this icon, click "Start," "All Programs," "Access IBM" and "Power Manager."Click the "Battery Information" tab at the top.Click "Battery Maintenance."Click "Perform Reset," and then click "Continue" on the confirmation dialog box. This procedure will take more time to complete, and you should not use your ThinkPad during that time. You will be prompted when the battery reset is complete.

Make sure AC adapter plug in when performing gauge reset, do not close system.

Regards,
Sameer

After using Windows 7 on my E530 for the last 6 months, I finally plucked up the courage and moved back to Windows 8 but none of my USB 3 ports work as they did in Windows 7.  My external HD was getting 130MB/sec read/write under 7 but only get around 30MB/sec under 8. I know there was a BIOS limitation which supposedly was addressed in the latest update but it's performing exactly the same.  When is this going to be addressed fully?

Hi my name is Jordan and im from the UKI am considering purchasing the thinkpad edge e530 with "Intel Core i3 2328M" installed and would like to know if it would be possible to install a Core i7 at a later date as I have a tight budget at the moment, and if so which one would be compatible. thanks in advance Jordan

Answer:Installing Core i7 in Thinkpad Edge E530 with i3

Good day and welcome to the community.

Looking at pages 82 and 83 of your Hardware Maintenance Manual, the CPU is removable (vs soldered), so that's good. Further looking at pages 2 and 3 your FRU parts listing, there are a number of core iX CPUs that are noted, including several of the i7 variety. Which one you could use may be dependent on which system board you have.

Hope this helps to clarify.
Regards.

So I recieved my Edge 530 a few weeks back and the machine is absolutely wonderful, however for som reason it's USB 3.0 ports only give me a speed of 4-5MB/s while transferring. The same USB gives me about 25 on my desktop. I have tried the driver from the Support Section, but that has not affected anything. Also, the USB 2.0 gives the same speed.

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E530 USB transfer speed.

hum that is pretty slow.... you should get around the same speed as the desktop. I was getting around 20 mb/s on a usb thumb drive when i was transferring some files over to the E530, which is about the same speed i got on the other usb 3.0 equipped devices. Is there any unknown devices in the device manager?

10 minutes after logging into Windows, my computer freezes.Usually my keyboard is unresponsive and then a few minutes later my mouse goes unresponsive. The computer works perfectly in safe mode and safe mode with networking. I have updated the BIOS to the latest version 2.05, but that hasn't solved my problem. Searching online, I took somebody's suggestion to check the windows event viewer for errors in the logs. Checking the windows event viewer, I notice a recurrence of errors in the windows logs system: Error iaStor Event Id 5-A parity error was detected on \Device\Ide\iaStor0. Error iaStor Event Id 9-The device, \Device\Ide\iaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period. Any suggestions on how to solve my freezing issues?

I think it might be one of the settings. Like I have the beep turn on for whenever I press the Caps Lock key. These beeps are designed for people with disabilities I think. Go under Ease of Access in your Settings and you may find it there.

Hi, my Edge 530 fails regularly (allthough not every time) to shut down. Instead it hangs on the blue exit screen of my Windows 7 (Home Prem, SP1) and I'm forced to hold the power button down in order to shut down my system. Windows event viewer shows a bunch of identical reports like this one: ACPI thermal zone ACPI\ThermalZone\TZ01 has been enumerated. _PSV = 368K _TC1 = 1 _TC2 = 5 _TSP = 1000ms _AC0 = 0K _AC1 = 0K _AC2 = 0K _AC3 = 0K _AC4 = 0K _AC5 = 0K _AC6 = 0K _AC7 = 0K _AC8 = 0K _AC9 = 0K _CRT = 373K _HOT = 0K _PSL - see event data.Sometimes I get a beep and a message "fan error" on the following start up. Can this be potentially harmful and what shoud I try to do about it? Thanks in advance,Juhani

Hello, My Thinkpad edge of nearly 2 years has as of today stopped showing a carrier signal on it's network port. This follows constant use under Slackware 14 since purchase (have tested with stock OS and knoppix). The first sign of trouble was in april this year when plugging in to a specific client network caused the transfer speed to slow to a permanent crawl after dhcp, and may have been triggered by plugging in to a bad wall socket at another site today. Anyone had luck replacing them, are they too much hassle, and is there a good usb network card that could do the trick? Shame to lose it, really liked these - and bought them for clients too.

Hi All I received my new new Thinkpad Edge E530 yesterday, here in UK. I am trying to do a Factory Restore as I somehow cannot access usng the Windows 8 password that I set up at the very start of initial reboot. I press F11 which takes me into what seems to be Windows 8 recovery screen, where I "Choose Language", then "Choose Keyboard Layout". I go into "Troubleshoot" (to reset PC) and then click on "Reset Your PC" option, hit Next and Choose Windows 8 Operation system It says 'Please Wait' for a few seconds, then comes up saying "Insert your Windows Installation or Recovery Media to continue" ! Lenovo did not ship a recovery media disk with my laptop - so what are my option(s) ... surely I am not expected to purchase a Lenovo Recovery DVD ?!?Appreciate any advise anyone can give me.CheersRossPS FAO Lenovo - having had four previous IBM/Lenovo THinkpads in the past and carried out many factory restores in the past without issues or need for external CDs or DVDs, really frustrated to be in this situation - particularly since the UK Lenovo Support Office is Mon-Fri 9-6PM, and when I call United States Support today (Saturday) as I see they are 24/7, they inform me that they cannot support customers outside of US. So much for globalisation !!

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E530 - cannot do factory restore

Hey there rosscomclan,

With Windows 8 you will have to go in and create the recovery media generally making a DVD or USB Drivel; however, this can only be done once logging in and getting to the metro screen or desktop to my knowledge.

In this instance, because Recovery Media is not prepared, you will need to contact Lenovo Support and have them send you Recovery Media DVDs. For the UK the support center number is 08705-500-900.

Reviews say the touchpad on the E530 is crap when, for the price, the rest of the computer isn't bad at all. Is it possible to somehow swap out the E530s touchpad to one not as jittery etc?

Thanks

Answer:Upgrading the touchpad on a Thinkpad Edge E530

You'd have to find one that would fit, and that's even assuming you can change the actual touchpad without having to change the whole top part of the chassis (most you do because the touchpad is embedded pretty good in the top/front plastic bezel of laptops).

I'd almost assume that it could just be an outdated driver - if you get the right driver, then most touchpad issues go away (unless the touchpad really is that bad). If it's a Synaptics touchpad, you can get them here: Drivers | Synaptics

Hi, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E540 and I am trying to reinstall windows. actually I have had a problem with its harddisk so i replaced it with the new one. Now whenever I try to install windows 8 from iso image burned on a usb stick, the installation setup asks me the license key in the very beginning and since i dont have any license key as it is embedded in the bios/motherboard of my laptop, i cannot proceed with the installation any further. Does anybody know how can i get the license key out of my bios/motherboard so that i can proceed with the windows installation. My laptop originally had a windows 8 pro pre-installed. Thanks in advance

I recently purchased the thinkpad, and have been experiencing small electrical shocks when touching the lefthand side of the keyboard.  After calling technical support, and opening a case, the only option I've been given was to return the machine for repair.  However, as a physician, I am unable to work in my practice without my machine.  Lenovo support has not given me many options to resolve this matter.
