Thinkpad Edge E130 sierra wireless mc8355 gobi 3000 no connection

Question: Thinkpad Edge E130 sierra wireless mc8355 gobi 3000 no connection

Hello everyone, I'm facing a problem with the Thinkpad E130 and the integrated Sierra Wireless MC8355 Gobi 3000 broadband modem. I can't use them with my SIM cards. No connection is established. I'm sure that a modem is integrated since it was specifcally ordered with it and it shows up in the device manager. What I ruled out:- Hardware defect: There is a second Thinkpad E130 with the same setup, where it doesn't work either.- Service provider problem: Tried two SIM cards from two different service providers.- SIM card problem: SIM cards work in mobile 3G router. What I did:- Shut down the notebook- Put a sim card in the slot in the back of the laptop, behind the battery.- Reboot the notebook and start the Thinkvantage Access Connections software.- The sim card usually does get detected and a suitable profile is shown automatically.- Nonethless I created a profile myself. More exactly two profiles for the two service providers. The data for the APN, etc. is gathered either from the internet or from a second software I use.- I try to connect with the profile which is automatically shown and the self-created profiles.- It tries for several minutes but then quits with an error message: 'Unable to connect to network at this time due to out of coverage or Your SIM-card may not be activated. Please see Lenovo Mobile Broadband Actviation or contact your mobile operator. Do you want to sign up now?' - I tried to connect with a second software called MWconn, which fails too. So I would rule out application problems, too.- I've tried to use MWconn with deactivated and with uninstalled Access Connections. To avoid interferences with the COM port. Now, my question is what I overlooked. Is there something, that I have to do first? I've read something of an activation but I thougth this was specifcally for the Lenovo Mobile Access programm. Which is nice but not interesting for me. But do I have to activate the modem first, nonetheless? I don't know if it's important but the laptops have been bought and are tested in Germany. And another thing is that MWconn asks for my PIN and Access Connection doesn't. But I also tried it with deactivated PIN, which doesn't change the problem. Rest of the setup- Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit.- ThinkVantage Access Connections v6.22- MWconn v5.9 If there is any other info missing, please feel free to ask.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a T520. I decided to post this since I couldn't find anything on it anywhere when i was trying to figure it out.Sierra site has no drivers, and the lenovo driver says its an unsupported platform even though it clearly lists XP.Here's the solution, mind you I haven't tried to connect to anything yet:Go get the regular lenovo driver for sierra wireless off of the support page, run it, let it install. You can watch the sierra installer fail after that if you wish.Go into where ever you installed the driver files to, in my case C:\DRIVERS\WWANSR (Where the lenovo branded installer put the sierra installer files)Now go into the uncompressed_drivers directory (C:\DRIVERS\WWANSR\Uncompressed_Drivers)Don't run DriverInst.exe yet. It installs all the drivers, but they wont work. (Devices do not start.)Run the two .reg files to add them to the registry (LenovoPowerManagement.reg and LenovoSupportedPIDKeys.reg)Now run DriverInst.exe, and you're done! Now if someone could tell me how to increase the maximum integrated graphics from 128 mb on a t520 I'd be in heaven!

hey as the subject say, can i insert sim card from another country and carrier ?do i need  unique sim card for that ? i have 3g unlimited data plan, can i use it ? thanks

Answer:x220 Mobile Broadband (Sierra Wireless MC8355 - Gobi 3000) is sim free ?

As long as your 3G carrier supports BYOM (Bring Your Own Modem) for their service, AND it operates on a 3G band supported by the MC8355..... yes, you can.

I ordered a Gobi 3000 for my laptop before I went abroad and found that the local carrier here (there's only one) offers EVDO service. I ordered my EVDO service but when it came to connecting using Lenovo Access Connections, the only EVDO options that are available are Sprint or Verizon. Just for the hell of it, I decided to try both and neither worked but the card is able to see the EVDO network.  The issue is that the card will not activate (even though it is activated on the local carrier's network) because it does not see a Sprint or Verizon network. If I pop in a 3G SIM card and switch the Gobi to HSDPA, it works great but 3G is expensive here which is why it isnt a great option.  The activation is purely software/firmware related on the Gobi and it's incredibly annoying to know I spent $125 for something that simply won't work (despite the assurances by the Lenovo sales team that it wasn't software-limited or locked in any way when I asked before I bought it) Anyone have any familiarity with activating the Gobi for EVDO service on providers other than Sprint or Verizon?

EV-DO never achieved enough global market penetration to become a globally standardised technology, in either an engeineering or commercial sense.

Every EV-DO  implementation was somewhat different, so its not at all suprising that you are unable to activate a Gobi 3000 card intended primarily for access to specific US providers with an EVDO provider in another market.

The Gobi 3000 card is definitely not "locked" in itself to a provider, but many EV-DO vendors would only activate a device that they had sold themselves, for purely commercial reasons.  Also, EV-DO "activation" is quite a different thing to activation in 3G networks, so even when there is a basic technology compatibility in terms of frequency bands, there may not be an ability to activate the device within the  business model of any arbitrary EVDO provider.

Cheers,

Hello everybody, I have got a X131e chrombook and installed a GOBI Mobile Broadband Wireless WAN card (60Y3257). The card was perfectly detected by the system and it immedeatly tries to connect to the internet, but after a while the error message "no cellular network available" is displayed (please note: It s in Germany, using a Bildmobil/Vodafone SIM, which perfectly works with the same chromebook using a surfstick). When looking for the modem status in the crosh, the following is displayed: crosh> modem statusModem /org/chromium/ModemManager/Gobi/1:GetStatus:activation_state: 0carrier: Verizon Wirelessesn: 80075301firmware_revision: 0d010008imei: 355569041284485imsi: 262021506366626mdn: 0000003649meid: A1000004B9A8E0min: 0000003649no_signal: truepayment_url: https://quickaccess.verizonwireless.com/bbportal/chrome/start.dopayment_url_method: postpayment_url_postdata: mdn=0000003649&oem=GOG2&meid=A1000004B9A8E0prl_version: 56006technology: CDMAusage_url: https://mobile.vzw.com/vzam/servlet/vzam?client=chrome&serviceName=accountInfo&subServiceName=poundD...GetInfo:Manufacturer: Sierra Wireless IncModem: Sierra Wireless MC8355 - Gobi 3000(TM) ModuleVersion: 30500000Properties:Device: wwan0Driver: gobiEnabled: trueIpMethod: 2MasterDevice: /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.6State: 40Type: 2UnlockRequired: UnlockRetries: 999CDMA:ESN: 80075301Registration:CDMA-1x: 0EVDO: 0ServingSystem:SignalQuality: 0 Might it b... HiThe reason of issue is inappropriate fw loaded to the modem by default. It's fw for Verizon, #1 in the fw images directory structue. So, presently modem is ready to work in the CDMA/EV-DO network Verizon, only. Vodafone network needs fw #0. Most of UMTS networks need fw #6 (Generic). Modem isn't locked, just fw is a cause.Further steps for the fw changing depend on the OS installed, drivers (re)installation capabilities, external media with LiveCD etc.

I've installed Sierra MC8355 drivers on Windows 10 64-bit. Drivers installed successfully, Network connections show new 'Cellular' connection, Device manager shows new Sierra 8355 devices which have drivers installed. So it looks like everything is ok with drivers (Windows 8.1 drivers) on Windows 10. My question is - what should I install to be able to use that 3G and GPS? How can I perform a 3G connection and run GPS tracking? I tried software for Windows 7 - it failed.

Answer:Sierra Wireless MC8355 on Windows 10

Hi and welcome, OxeliPlease, clarify: aren't you able to establish 3g connection using win10 mobile broadband features? What are the symptoms? To enable GPS capabilities, reinstall the drivers with option GPS=1 in the setup command line (note, use the setup installer, not the drivers package). Or, if there is configuration file in the folder where drivers are being extracted, change appropriate settings within it.

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a bind. I can get the T500 to install the Gobi3000 drivers - although I admit there's no drivers from Lenovo's site for the T500...windows installs them, I can see my wireless provider but windows keeps bouncing back and forth between spitting out an error that the APN settings are incorrect or "couldn't connect" Yet, I take out the Gobi 3000 card, put in a Gobi 2000...and it works perfectly fine with the exact same APN details.Any ideas?

I have an x131e laptop that I recently added a Sierra wireless data card to.  It has been setup for use with verizon.  When I access the software to use with the card " Vzaccess" , it recognizes the card model but tells me it is not inserted.  I tried using the Thinkpad Access Connections , that seems to work and allows me to access the web.  The problem is that the software we use to transfer data uses the vz access in order to transmit.  I downloaded the correct drivers from Lenovo's website and am using the correct vz access software from verizon.  I am wondering how I can get the software to recognize the card?  It says on verizons website that only one connection manager may be present, either vzaccess or access connections.  Just wondering why I can get it to work with one and not the other.  Any help would be most appreciated. thanks

I need some help here.I've narrowed down the problem I've been having with my x220t+gobi 3000.Apparently when I first installed it, the driver's set the firmware to Verizon, and I could see Verizon's network on windows 8 just fine. However, I have to use tmobile because it's 3x cheaper.Right now, I have the driver's installed and the card doesn't even seem to work, so I'm wondering what I need to do to get it to work. I'm out of options. I tried reinstalling the driver/firmware, but it doesn't seem to do anything.EDIT (9/11/15 617pm): I just powered on my laptop and magically it seems to be working. All I think I need to do now is activate this thing.

Hi, I've got a question about the thinkpad edge e130.What is the response time of that display?I can't find this indormation anywhere. When I'm scrolling text, it becomes unreadable. When I move the Mouse very fast, I can see the pointer manyfold. So I assume that Thinkpad's display has a high response time? I know that it is subjective if you can see those effects.Maybe someone can watch out for those effects. Thank you in advance

I've had my laptop for about a little over a month as of writing this, the battery and everything has satisfied my needs, Originally the battery would last around 5 hours and as of a few hours ago when it suddenly hit critical battery level it can only last 3 hours. My battery capaicity is  62160mWh and has decreased by 35.3% over the past month and is currently sitting at 40220 mWh. Is this normal and am I able to claim a warranty on just the battery without costs?

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E130 - Faulty battery

Good day and welcome to the community.

I believe that the battery warranty is 1 year, standard, unless you extended it during system purchase. I would recommend that you call Service to describe the battery wear you're seeing and let them advise you on next steps.

I just received new ThinkPad Edge E130 (3358-5DG) as my secondary laptop on the side of my trusty W520. When travelling / flying etc W520 is simply just a bit too big, so I wanted to have a smaller unit which I can use in these conditions. I know Edge is not supposed to match the quality of W series, but wanted to give a try for this nice small unit. All is working pretty nicely, but keyboard backlight (illuminated keyboard) doesn't work. When looking at machine specifications it's clearly stated that the unit has keyboard backlight (which is a must for me), but there's also listed fingerprint reader that I know for sure that it doesn't exist on this unit. Also it's visible in pictures clearly that there is no fingerprint reader in any of the E130 units (which I didn't expect and don't need either). Fn + space combination should bring up the lights and it's also printed into the keyboard. Pressing this combination gives me OSD symbol "ThinkLight OFF" (icon with ThinkLight and line drawn on top of it) every time I press it, so I never get "ThinkLight ON" symbol and nothing really happens in the keyboard. I have updated all software etc from Lenovo, so all is running latest version. Situations was the same before and after update. So it seems that either A) My device has malfunctioning keyboard light or B) There is no keyboard light and device specifications are wrong at Lenovo site. I have been trying to find information about this issue from the web and so... Hello copter,

I understand the frustration that comes along with this problem.
Here is a link to your drivers.  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page
Under the Software and Utility tab there is an option for the hotkey integration for Windows 7.  Download and update this driver on your computer.
Another driver that will help is to download your Power Management program and driver from the Power Management tab.
Both are on the Link from above.

On the invoice that came with your computer, is there an included parts section?  Included parts may not be the name of the section.  Please check the invoice and see if there is a think-light or back-lit keyboard listed.

Also,  Which light did you order for your Laptop? The back-lit keyboard, where the light is under the keys, or the Think-light where the light shines from above the screen down onto the screen.

Hope this helps,

Alex

Hello, I have seen various posts about similar problems, though not on Edge E130. Tried their solutions, to no avail. The screen is black. No faint image. Machine powers up (LEDs glow, noise of fan and hard disk). I have no external video connection. Have tried taking battery out, pressing on button for 1 minute, plugging machine to power (no battery) and restart. No success. Did not initiate any kind of update (certainly not BIOS!), upgrade or new software install (though the machine has been asking to upgrade to Windows 10, which I have not done yet). Running Windows 8.1 (as far as I can remember, as I cannot actually check - the screen is black).  AVG antivirus, updated and fully run about one week ago. Help? Please?

Answer:Black screen on power on in Thinkpad Edge E130

What happens if you connect an external monitor to the machine? If that works, it means your graphics card is still okay. So issue might be with the LCD or a BIOS setting (external display first)If you still have a black screen you may likely need motherboard replacement.

I can't use my external Lenovo USB keyboard when the portable has just has been powered on. This is required to input a username and password before the windows gui mode loads. The workaround is to open the lid of the portable and use the keyboard to login before it loads the windows OS which is XP SP3.  I have downloaded and installed the latest E130 bios from 2.50 (2012-12-26) to 2.52 (2013-04-18). The USB keyboard may sometimes only be responsive after a cold start but will mostly fail to work. The current workaround is to remove and re-insert the USB keyboard once the portable has been switched on. I have also tried different bios combinations and USB keyboards without success. This is definitely related to the Thinkpad E130 as my external keyboards work on other Thinkpad models. Any ideas/answers welcome?

Hi...I have E130 with 0% battery (can't be charged anymore). I have bought a new battery but can't use. When I plugged it (with a power source plugged as well), and I try to to turn it on, it worked. But not so long after the windows logon screen displayed (I use Windows 7), then it turn off again and cannot turn on anymore, unless I unplug the power outlet first. I try to changed with the old battery again and there's no problem (with the power source plugged, of course). I try to update the BIOS, but since my battery level is 0%) it cannot be done (always rejected). Is there anyone can help to solve my problem, please? Thanks.

So, I need a dual band + BT wifi card that will work in an Edge E130. Yes, i've already been directed to the stupid "FRU" and "Supported wireless" lists. The FRU list isn't helpful and the "Supported wireless" list is a complete lie. (A supposedly supported card is "unsupported" and halts at POST) So what's the exact model card I need to get and where can I get it from? (Or who do I contact to get the Intel Advanced N 6230 added to the BIOS whitelist) Failing this, i'll be returning it/demanding a refund (if neither are forthcoming, i'll be issuing a charge back on my CC). Under the NZ Consumers Guarantee's act , if Lenovo are listing a card as compatible and it's not, then I have various legal avenue's to persue or i'll just issue a charge back and go buy a laptop from another manufacturer that aren't assholes about what I can do with my own **bleep** hardware.

Answer:Require dual band + BT wifi card for Thinkpad Edge E130

The FRU list is necessary.  If a card isn't sold by or for Lenovo it will fail the BIOS whitelist test.

As an example, a generic Intel 5300 will fail.  An Intel 5300 FRU # 43Y6459 will pass - at least in a machine that has that FRU whitelisted.

It isn't in the PCI ID that I can see. My Lenovo-branded 5300 has the generic Intel ID. It may be in the subsystem ID or in some pixie dust that Lenovo sprinkles in the firmware - I don't know the details - but a Lenovo-compatible 5300 is not the same as a generic one.  Searching for a whitelist vs PCI ID won't get you any farther than the FRU list would.  If a card would pass the whitelist, it is already branded with the FRU.

If you're shopping the aftermarket, rather than Lenovo sales, you need to shop by FRU along with card type.  Legit sellers will list the FRU # along with laptop compatibiliy.

You  (and I) might wish it were otherwise, but that's the reality.

I have activated and am using an MC8355 in Australia, so it is definitely possible activate and use it.

There are no Australian carriers directly supported by the configuration software, but its pretty straightforward to create an Access Connection profile for a carrier, as long as the carrier support Bringing Your Own modem (not all do).

Did you use the Mobile Broadband utility to activate your card?

Which UK carrier are you intending to use?

When I place a simcard in the cardholder. The Lenovo software says 'no simcard installed'It's a KPN(dutch) simcard. If I search on the internet I can only find information about this controller working with Vodafone cards. Is this my problem? Is there anything I need to change about my settings or anything? When I use the simcard in another USB WWan device it asks for a pin. When it is the lenovo it only says 'no sim card installed'. I hope someone can help me out. thnx for the support.

Hello, I've just bought a Gobi 2000 WWAN Card for my Thinkpad Edge 13 in order to use WLAN and WWAN. I assumed that, because I can use this both functions on demand with my T400 (with integrated WWAN option). Now as I got the card I was shocked, that there are not enough screws to hold the WLAN and the WWAN card and that there seems no way in sharing the antenna cables. Do you know a way run the WWAN card together with the former installed WLAN card, cause I would like to use the WWAN option as well as the WLAN option without changing the cards and antenna connectors. Do you know a way to use both cards and share the antenna cables or it is only possible to run one of this both pcie cards ? Regards Jens

I had to do a fresh install of windows 7 professional.  Everything is working aside from the wireless connection.  I've downloaded each wireless driver and still the issue persists.  I can see the connection being broadcasted, upon entering the password to connect I only get "windows was unable to connect to xxx". I can connect to this wireless point from my phone and my other laptop plus no one else in the office is having this issue.  Only on this Thinkpad am I having the problem. If I try to use the Intel PROSet/Wireless Tools diagnostics I get a FAILED-Wireless Hardware is not bound to transport driver.  I've tried everything at this point with no luck.  The LAN works fine of course but I need the Wireless to work.  Thanks

Hi,I purchased a Thinkpad Edge 14 ~1 year ago and it's been a good notebook overall. However there is one problem that's been bothering me for quite some time.Around every 20-30 minutes it loses connection to the internet (wireless), then around 10 seconds later it refreshes and regains connection automatically. Does anyone know what is causing this problem, and can anyone suggest a fix? It has integrated wifi/lan adapters (ThinkPad Wireless BGN). Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, I've recently bought the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E545 (about a week old) and everything is fine, except the problem is that the wireless download speed & connection is terrible slow. I've done speedtests and resulted in a 1mbps--or barely-- download speed. I updated the drivers, the network adapter, etc. and I have successfully updated the important Windows updates. It's currently Windows 7 and the current network adapter is 1x1 11b/g/n Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter. There is no problem with the router and no internet speed upgrade is required. I tested connections and done speedtests with other computers and devices on the same connection and their speed is significantly greater than the ThinkPad's. I assure you nothing is wrong with the router or connection area and I have some confidence that it is a hardware problem with the Wireless card. Is there any solution to this problem that does not require me to install another network adapter? I looked around and used Google and tried different methods but they don't seem to work. Thank you in advance.

Answer:ThinkPad Edge E545 - Weak Wireless Connection

I set up an account just to reply to you!...and also I just bought a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E545, and I want everyone to know what they're doing.  Plus, I'm having the same problem.  I just downloaded the Broadcom Wireless LAN (Driver here! Remember to choose for either Windows XP, 8, 8.1, or whatever you have!) and I've seen past comments that this has worked for them.  I'm about to go try it out, so wish me luck!  I hope you haven't returned that laptop you bought!  Lenovo is usually such a good brand, from what I hear, and I personally already enjoy the exterior, as I put structure, stability, and damage-resistant against style, which the Edge E545 seems to be more for the accident prone or careful type, but still cool!  Good luck!

Answer:X120e Gobi 2000 v Gobi 3000

Hello,

I found a spec sheet for the Gobi 2000 here and the one for the Gobi 3000 here.  From looking between the two, it appears the newer 3000 model is ready for UMTS - AWS and EV-DO/CDMA ? 2100 MHz (standards which may not have been ratified when the 2000 was released), supports faster HSDPA speeds (14.4Mbps vs. 7.2Mbps) and is 2.5 grams lighter.

Solved. I use 'wired' to access a secure intranet, and 'wireless' for general internet use in the office and elsewhere. The wireless connection kept disappearing after I had used the wired connection. Here's a typical scenario: * Boot up with wireless only - no problem.* Plug in wired network cable - it takes over and wireless is turned off, at a deep level.* Unplug wired network cable - no connections! The wireless network does not resume.* Run the Windows network trouibleshooter to discover "wireless capability is turned off".* Pressing Function F9 and clicking the Master and Individual on-off buttons does not help.* Windows network trouibleshooter offers to fix it: accept the offer, and it works again. There has been a lot of discussion about wireless connections on various models of ThinkPad and numerous solutions offered and I've tried most of them. Finally I got to uninstall ThinkVantage Access Connections and now everything works as expected. In fact it is possible to have both networks active at the same time (for example in different browsers). Conclusion: Wired and wireless don't mix well in ThinkVantage Access Connections, so just uninstall it.

Hi all I've been trying to activate the Gobi 3000 in my W530 for the past couple of days.  Although I have installed the drivers and I am able to see the "Mobile Broadband Connection" in network properties, it seems to be locekd to Verizon or Sprint (deponding on which OS I boot into) and I can't find anywhere to change this, even though I have a SIM card from the local telco (Telkom Mobile in South Africa).  Can someone please explain how to go about doing this?  The Gobi 2000 in my W510 was simply a few clicks, but this seems to be a whole different can of worms.

I have a W520 and am looking to purchase a WWAN card.  I see that Sierra Wireless has the MC7750 card available (supports LTE, EV-DO and HSPA+).   Will the W520 support LTE, or am I just wasting my money getting a WWAN card with LTE support?

Answer:ThinkPad W520 and Sierra Wireless MC7750

The short answer: get the MC7750!Probably the biggest improvement isn't the raw download/upload speed of the unit, but rather the reduced network latencies. All the advertisements are only talking about the improvements in MBps, probably because it's the easiest thing to describe to people in 30 seconds or on a billboard. In reality MBps only matters if you are watching video, or downloading large files. Most of the delay time for other applications comes from the several hundred milliseconds it takes the computers to make a round trip communication. Each time you click something on the web, there are several rounds of communication which can add up. If your current connection has a 400ms delay (as mine does) it takes several seconds each time for anything to happen. Some better connections like HSPA are supposed to have about 100ms latency, but LTE is going to push that down to about 40ms.  Can you tell that I'm excited about getting LTE  I'm planning on getting the MC7750 as soon as Lenovo releases it. Unfortunately, every time I call in, I seem to be told that it's just a month or so away. I've been hearing that line for almost 4 months now. I was also told that I will be able to upgrade my existng x220, which had better be true otherwise I'm going to be royally pissed because I bought the system with that understanding. You may find my thread on the MC7750 for the x220 device interesting.http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Does-quot-Bro... I got a W520 and installed the card, drivers and hardware is seen properly (I'm using Win7 x64bit)but it keeps looking like it is turned off (how you turn off wifi).  Though when I press FN+F5 it doesn't show mobile broadband, only wifi and bluetooth I use the AirCard Watcher app and it keep saying Airplane Mode, radio is off.when I disable and enable the card via network settings.    The Aircard watch see the card for about a split second when I reenable it but then it goes right backto airplane mode.. I also tried using the Lenovo access connection and when I try to connect to mobile broadband . it keep saying no signal or sim not activated  BTW: I have a working Verizon Sim card that I use for a usb dongle and I have a x240 with broadband card that works fine with the SIM  so it's not a sim card problem.

Guys,Im thinking of getting t420s, but the critical condition for me is to be able to plug in Sierra Wireless MC7710,I know that its not on the whitelist, but lets just assume that I can patch BIOS and actually make it work, will be possible technically to plug in Sierra Wireless MC7710 into t420s?Is there a slot for it? And are there enough antenna cords for it as well?I've seen some screens and it seems that Wi-Fi card is using 3 antenna cords and there are only 2 spare whereas MC7710 requires 3 antenna cords?Cords are seen here - http://www.notebookreview.com/shared/picture.asp?f=58673Could someone clarify please. Many thanks in advance !D

Answer:RE: Installing Sierra Wireless MC7710 into Lenovo thinkpad T420s

One of the three antenna connectors on the MC7710 is for the GPS antenna. This could mean that it could work fine with the two antennas that are available.

Hello, I'm thinking to buy ThinkPad Sierra Wireless EM7345 4G LTE Mobile Broadband FRU: 04X6014 for my ThinkPad X250. I?ve few questions, Pease suggest ...1. Is it really any good and practically beneficial?2. Can I use it on Fedora 27, How?s Linux support?3. X250 has two PCI Express M.2 card slot and one is already occupied by WLAN Card and other slot is available, Can I use empty slot for FRU-04X6014?4. Can I use both WLAN and WWAN simultaneously?5. What is the impact on battery (Windows and Linux)?6. Is AliExpress a good place to buy? Thankyou

Answer:Sierra Wireless EM7345 4G LTE Mobile Broadband FRU: 04X6014 for my ThinkPad X250

Regarding your questions:1) I personally use it and it's really good, as I don't want to use additional USB modem or WWAN wireless router.2) Can't say, as I don't use Fedora.3) There's a dedicated port for this module. Please make sure, that you have an antenna connectors for module and adapter for a SIM card. Moreover, instead of WWAN module, you can install there a m.2 2242 SSD disk.4) Both can be enabled and connected, but application will use one at time.5) I have an extended battery, so it's hard to tell. I guess it have a simmilar power usage as WLAN module (basing on Windows power utilization). Can't say about Fedora.6) It you don't want to have a problem with whitelist (it prevent system from booting, when unauthorized module is installed), then I look for module on eBay. Make sure, that photos explictly show FRU PN: 04X6014 on module's label. Models without it will not work.

Up until a recent Lenovo update I was able to connect to the Internet by either using the embedded Sierra Wireless antenna within my T61 or, more recently, through a tether connected to my Blackberry PDA.  After a recent Lenovo update to my system the drivers that allow my system to find these devices have vanished.  As such, I am no longer able to connect through Sierra Wireless device or Blackberry PDA.  Went a few rounds with Verizon but their conclusion was that the drivers are gone and that I need to 'reload Windows XP' to my system.  Not a great option.  Anybody have any sense of this problem, if so, a solution other than a complete reload of Windows?

I'm interested in thickness of HDD in E130. I read that in E125 was 7 mm HDD and there is troubles with 9 mm. So, is  E130 similar to E125(E130 is next-gen of this type netbooks, but there is huge posibility that Lenovo Engineers decided not to change HDD type)? Or 9 mm hard drive will work? Installing msata breaks warranty agreement, doesn't it? And i have some, maybe, obvious questions amout msata SSD(i've read about installing SSD in other Thinkpad notebooks), but I need some proves for Edge E130:1)Speed is limited by SATAII interface?2)mSata drive as bootable device will work?Last questions are not such important, but i'll happy, if Edge E130/E135 users will share their experience

Answer:Type of HDD in Edge E130 and question about msata SSD

I bought the E130 as a travel computer, so I didn't have to travel with my X220T - which is a tank compared to this little fellow. I have the 3358-8dg model of the e130 (came with free-dos but I bought an extra 4GB Ram to up the total to 8GB). The HDD is the usual 7mm think ones as expected.

I've had my e130 for 2 days now and I removed the HDD it shipped with and installed a 64GB mSata instead.

Link to image

I then installed Win7 with SP1 from a USB in UEFI mode (see this thread: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-7-Discussion/Prepare-an-usb-thumb-drive-to-boot-windows-7-or-8-i... - installed Lenovo System Update 5 and installed all drivers and software along with all windows updates.

So, running only an mSata HD and booting from it is not a problem at all.

My windows experience index is 4.9 due to the Graphics: Desktop performance for Windows Aero.

The HD transfer rate is 7.9.

The exact model of the mSata SSD I installed is: Crucial m4 SSD 64GB, mSATA 6Gb/s (CT064M4SSD3)

I hope this helps.

Question: Gobi 3000 in W510

Will a Gobi 3000 work in a W510 inplace of the existing Gobi 2000?

Answer:Gobi 3000 in W510

From my experience with older machines, it will, provided only that the BIOS is white-list patched; otherwise the system will not boot up and would report "unauthorized PCI express card detected" or the like. In short, Gobi 3000 will not work unless your BIOS is patched such that it bypasses the white-list detection.

Question: Gobi 3000 problems

Hello,   I have a new W520 and my Gobi 3000 broadband modem keeps dissapearing. I get an errors about a USB device problem and in Hardware Devices it is listed with a USB error code 43. I have to power down the computer and reboot to get it to show back up. Sometimes it takes 30 minutes after booting to dissapear and other times a few hours. Very sporadic. Interestingly, it never dissapears when I am using the modem and have an active connection to AT&T. It only dissapears while I am connected via wifi. This is most confusing to see a device malfunction only when it is not in use. It is annoying that I have to shutdown and reboot to switch over to it when I lose my wifi signal. I am using an exisiting AT&T sim with a laptop connect account I have had for years. When the Gobi 3000 is connected it works very well. Any suggestions before I call Lenovo technical support? My guess is that either the drivers are immature, or I have a defective Gobi 3000.

Answer:Gobi 3000 problems

please try these 2 things
1.  in device manager, double click on the device, go to the power management tab, and UNCHECk the option for "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
2.  in power manager, DISABLE the option for USB selective suspend.  this option is in the advanced settings of your power profile.

try 1 first, if that doesn't work then try 2.  I'm not suggesting this is a long-term solution, i'm just trying to collect information about what the problem could be.

Is this Gobi thing something that Lenovo offers as a pre-installed device on the W520?  I don't think so, because I can't find any reference to it in the W520 Device Driver File Matrix. It could be that the W520 is not designed to support this device, even though it physically fits into the computer. Michael

Hi everyone, I just bought a X120e (0596CTO). It is mobile broadband upgradable, and so I searched the wireless accessories to find a suitable card. Both the GOBI 2000 and 3000 were listed as compatible. So naturally I bought the 3000 since its the newer version. When I received the machine I did all of the Windows and Lenovo updates. Then I popped the back off and put the GOBI 3000 in there but when I booted up I got an unauthorized part error and that the startup was halted. So I went to the Lenovo driver website and manually downloaded the BIOS update utility and the GOBI 2000/3000 driver utility. The BIOS update said I had the latest BIOS and the GOBI utility didn't install because no wireless card was detected. So I called tech support and they told me first off that the GOBI 3000 is not even listed only the 2000 (wrong!) and then he asks me "Are you sure this machine is broadband upgradable". Yes! It's listed as a perk right on the sales page. Plus where did he think I was shoving the card into (the RAM slot?) :-)  I'm usually nice, but this guy was irritating since he was incredibly slow and essentially accusing me of having mindlessly buying incompatible devices. When he says that there is nothing he can do for me, I tell him that I guess I'll exchange it, but that they should fix the sales webpage. He doesn't believe me! (because the PSREF website has it all listed differently). So I walk him through how it was that I came upon the GOBI... Read more

Ok so to start off my Model is T420 ok so this is my second gobi i've Might've ruined due to how sensitive the hardware is - ok so the history goes that i've instsalled windows 8 (iso provided from MS's secretive (idk if it is a secretive onedrive or not)one drive) and upgraded to 8.1 and it instaslled perfect with all drivers onboard from Lenovo System Updater Uitlity and after a fight with bluetooth not shutting down i've decied to go back to OEM system and the first thing i noticed when going to check in device manager(habbit) is Gobi 3000 not installing drivers with a code 10 so the question i ask... Is it possible that the transition from win 8 - 8.1 - back to OEM win 7 did something hardware wise to the gobi? also sorry if i spelled something wrong - that's what happens when you take 5MGx2 melatonin

Answer:Sensitive Gobi 3000? or ???

Ok so I found out that my gobi /3g module might be a windows 8/8.1 onesince the windows 7 version of the driver doesn't install the driver on windows 7 but the windows 8/8.1 version of the driver installs just fine on both windows 7 pro x64 and windows 8/8.1 pro x64and yes I've run the recovery dvd's a few times which is windows 7 pro and the gobi doesn't look to be installed when checking device manager Each of those times -I think someone might be handing out modified gobi 3000's or in short 3g module's to fit in on a certain driver made for another system instead of it's original system (it's what I think am not sure)so in short case closed.

I got the machine, build quality is good, but I am not impressed with the software part. The 1st thing I did was to create the set of recovery DVD.The burning and verifying took a very long time, I couldn't just sit there and watch so I left it running. When I'm back, guess what? the fxxxing machine hibernated itself while the burning has still not finished.Of course partly was my fault as I didn't check the power setting and set it to max performance. But the "smart" Think Vantage should have prevented the machine from sleeping if it is still burning should it?So now I have an incomplete set of recovery DVD and can't re-do it as the Thinkvantage tool allows me to create the disc JUST ONE TIME!What can I do now as I need that recovery set (for SSD upgrading too)?I'm swearing at the Lenovo software right now. Again the same experience when I returned the x100e 2 years ago (but then hardware was also problematic)

Answer:Recovery disc creation failure Edge E130

I saw your post in Whirlpool forum, and i made a comment there. Basically you just need to call Lenovo warranty, and request a recovery media to be sent out to you (mention that the laptop failed to burn the media properly).

Hello community, the ThinkPad Edge E130 I purchased came without an operating system, so I should be able to choose my own. And I am (in a way). I can even put the Secure Boot key database into setup mode and add my own keys. That's nice. However I can not do the same with the keys that authorize flashing. Now that's fine for a phone or a tablet, but with an x86 machine it's not. Since this model is not connected to Microsoft in any way, I need to be able to modify certain ACPI tables to make the firmware work with certain other OSes. This is because it doesn't follow the ACPI standard and uses Microsoft quirks. So this OS-free laptop is really not. I don't know much about Antitrust laws and I don't care. But I do want the laptop I paid for (in full, no contract or anything) to do what I want it to. I specifically chose the version without Windows so I wouldn't have to deal with any of this. So I'm looking for a way to enroll my own key (preferably) or flash unsigned firmware images. On some models earlier firmware didn't implement Secure Flash so I could roll back, but every version for the E130 has it. Best wishes, clrokr

Hello, According to some German reviews, the E130, and presumably also E135, have a serious construction error:when you close the laptop the screen rubs against the palm area and thus gets scratched. Could those who own this laptop please confirm this? Thanks,Novalis

Answer:Edge E130/-135 Construction Error? Scratched Screen?

In the US we don't have the 130 (I wish we did), but I have the E430.  I did notice one time when my screen was particularly dusty, I had my laptop in my backpack and when I took it out the keys had kind of wiped little squares into the dust.  No damage though.  I know this doens't really help you with the E130 specifically.

Thanks in advance Hi Could anybody who own a x220 with internal wwan card gobi 3000(only that model) give me the vendor and id of this hardware?I need smth like this(it can be found in device manager) PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0085&SUBSYS_13118086 (this string is for centrino 6205). I need the same string but for gobi 3000, so could somebody past it here? If somebody owns gobi 3000 and do not know how to find it juz post here and Ill write detailed tutorial.

Answer:gobi 3000 wwan card

I don't have the Gobi 3000 device, but the information you need is here:USB\VID_1199&PID_9012 SIERRA WIRELESS MC8355 GOBI 3000 (QDLOADER)USB\VID_1199&PID_9013 SIERRA WIRELESS MC8355 GOBI 3000 9012 & 9013 are items for the same device. As you know 9012 is for fw loading management. Also, as you see Gobi 3000 sits on usb interface only.

Hi I am running a W520 with W7 ultimate and have a Gobi 3000 in it.. When I connect to the internet using the Gobi, it connects ok Once connected it will work for a while and then pings to gateway will just stop working and ( obvuously ) cannot access any sites. After a while it will communicate ok for a while and then drop again Access connections shows the session as staying connected I have put in a USB 3G card with the same sim in it to prove that it isnt the 3G network that is the problem and there is no problems at all with network use I have also had the Gobi 3000 changed Anyone any ideas on what would cause the issue?

Answer:Problem with Gobi 3000 and W520

hey dsn, hard to say what could be the issue here. have you updated the drivers for the Gobi3000 ( http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS015016 ) ?If you haven't could you try that? And if you're using Access Connection to connect, try uninstalling that and use W7's built-in connection wizard and see how it goes.

I recently purchased a T520 without the broadband option (it wasn't an option at the time).  I first tried a Gobi 2000 from an older T510 laptop but it was apparently not compatible in the T520.  Lenovo said I need the Lenovo Broadband Option with the Gobi 3000 card and they also said it would work with Verizon service.  I just installed the Gobi 3000 and the new drivers from Lenovo.  Verizon support said that there is currently no version of Verizon VZAccess manager software that will work.  Is anyone using the Gobi 3000 with Verizon service?  I suppose I could just get an external 4G device from Verizon but I really want an interal device. Thanks!

Answer:Gobi 3000 not working with Verizon

Okay, I've been working on this for over an hour.  I have the T420S and was told by Lenovo to use the Mobile Broadband software to find the ESN, except they don't make the Mobile Broadband software for the T420S yet. Originally, I went to "Access Connections" (type that in the Start Menu if you can't find it), chose the radio button "Mobile Broadband", and clicked on "Tools". When I clicked on "Mobile Broadband", and "Account Information", all I got was the IMSI and IMEI and ICCID.  There was no ESN or even MEID. So, I went to the "Setup Mobile Broadband" application (type in the Start Menu).  I changed the provider to Verizon, then hit "Start Activation".  I chose to "Activate a new wirless account" and then "Self activation".  I chose "Sign up" and let it try to initialize.  It won't initialize, but after you let it try a couple times, then go back to "Access Connections". Now when you choose "Tools" and "Mobile Broadband", then "Account information", you'll see an MEID number. That can be converted to ESN using the following converter: http://www.humpa.com/vzw/meid_to_esn.php Apparently that MEID number is also on some documentation that came with the computer, but I'm doing this for someone else, so that didn't help me too much.   Additionally, Lenovo said we could open up the computer and find the card and read the number off the card.  The way I did it is much easier than that!&nbs... I have an X220 (Win7-64-bit) through work.  Recently ordered the Gobi 3000 (Sierra Wireless) embedded WWAN device.  I installed it per the instructions that came with it.  Activated using the Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation (on Sprint). I can connect to Sprint just fine using any of the following connection methods:1) create a DIAL modem entry and use the Gobi 3000 modem interface2) native Win7 WWAN NDIS (i.e. using the Gobi 3000 device as an NDIS "Network Adapter")3) Using Lenovo Access Connections 7 Here's the problem..... it's SLOW!  With an external Sierra Wireless AirCard 402 (also on Sprint EV-DO Rev-A), I get screaming 3G speeds (2.2+ MBps down, 1.5 MBps up)....full signal 5 bars. However, with the embedded Gobi 3000 in the same location, I get barely 800kbps down and 450 kbps up.  I made sure that the driver is the latest.  What am I doing wrong?  I can't think of anything as to why this is so slow.  It's as if I'm only getting 1xRTT speeds and not EV-DO Rev-A. Activation isn't the issue..it connect... just SLOW. Stumped!

I'm trying to install windows 7 from a flashdrive to my newly bought edge e130 freeDOS laptop but it doesn't want to boot from tehe usb. I've tried changing the boot orders from usb first and done everything. What is wrong and I keep seeing:PXE E61 media test failure this everytime I select usb hdd: cruzer sandisk to startup

Answer:Installing windows 7 to a FreeDOS edge e130 computer error!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello and welcome,

How are you preparing your flash drive?  This should work (for a legacy - non UEFI boot):

With DISKPART from a command prompt, list disk, select, clean, create partition primary, format quick fs=NTFS, active, assign.  See DISKPART docs for actual details - and be absolutely sure you select the correct disk, or you'll hose you system.

[edit] Depending on how you've already prepared your flash drive, just setting what you have "active" may let it boot.

Here's a link with DISKPART info. It's for another purpost but has the steps you'll need.

New or used USB memory keys or USB flash drives require an active partition created from within Wind...

Use something like 7zip to copy the contents of a Win 7 SP1 install ISO to the flash drive.  Or copy a Win 7 SP1 CD to the flahs drive.  Boot it.

The PXE error is because BIOS doesn't find anything to boot and tries to boot over the network as a last resort.

Z.

I have the Sierra Gobi-3000 card in several X220 laptops.  If the computer wakes from sleep mode WWAN card is no longer visible and cannot be connected to until after a reboot.  I found the USB Controller for it and unchecked "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" under Power management to no avail. The error message in Device manager (after sleep mode) is "Windows cannot load teh device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)".

I also have this problem on my X220 laptops. I found if you disable then re-enable the device in Device Manager, it helps to bring the Gobi card back to life. It's a workaround, but not a root cause fix.Did you find out any other info for fixing this?

Hi, Twi days ago I bought a ThinkPad Edge S430, the wireless wifi connection is so slow and ramdonly lost conection. I have made a speed test with my previous machine a the new one in the same wifi networw and the connection is so slow in my new one. I have put also in the power management setting optimal performance like I read could be a issue about this but the problem is still happening. The machine has windows 8.  Any advice, do you know which one could be the issue? Best Regards.

Answer:Slow wifi connection ThinkPad Edge S430

Hi, juancevi

Is there an Intel wireless card in your S430? If so, then I would recommend checking out  Control Panel ? Programs and Features. Here you can uninstall certain programs from your computer. One that you may find is called the Intel Management Engine. If available, I would recommend uninstalling it. This program has caused issues for me in the past and removing it has helped my WLAN be more stable, so it may help you as well.

Best of luck. Let me know how it goes,
Adam

I am considering purchasing the GOBI WWAN card.  Lenovo claims the card is compatible with the sprint network.  My carrier is sprint.  I called them up to enquire about how I can get my laptop on my plan, or get it on its own plan.  They said it didn't matter that I had this card.  I will still have to buy a sprint WWAN card.  What's the point in buying it if Sprint won't let me use it?  And why would Lenovo claim I can use it on the sprint network?

It depends on how close you are to the router and how strong the connection is. If you're far away or there's a lot of interference, the connection speed will automatically drop to ensure data integrity. You may want to see if your access point is operating in 802.11g mode.

You can try, if you haven't already, to update the drivers from Device Manager. If you right-click on the device in question, select Properties, and then click the Driver tab, there should be a button for update driver. Also, I would make sure that your BIOS is up to date. I just picked up an Edge 14 and had to reset it from Windows 7 x64 to  Windows 7 x32.  All the drivers have picked up except for the wireless driver.   The technical specs list the wireless card as Wireless NIC: ThinkPad 11 b/g/n so in theory it should be this driver: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS000979 but Windows says that the driver is incorrect.  I've checked the BIOS and the wireless card is enabled and F9 also shows that the wireless is enabled.  I've tried the rest of the drivers in the matrix in case I had the wrong one but none of them worked either.  Any ideas?

Hello, I am looking for a little bit of help. I have a Lenovo Edge 15 0319-46U laptop I recieved from my educational institution. I have had the laptop since fall of 2012. I've never had a single issue with the laptop except a month ago I noticed my wireless 1x1 b/g/n card stopped working. I'm well knoledged in computers and have already tried updating the drivers but I ran into an issue. My wireless card is no longer being shown on the Device Manager list under Network Adapters or "Unknown Devices", I only see my Wired gigabit card. I went into Bios, checked the button (did all the begginer stuff) and no dice. Wireless still does not work. I went ahead and ordered a new Intel Wireless card for said laptop and made sure the interface worked correctly, so my question is does anyone know of any fixes that could work even if the adapter is not shown on anywhere in the computer? And would anyone know if the Intel 7260-HMWNBWB Dual band card would be compatible with this machine? Thanks in advance for an answer.

Answer:Thinkpad Edge 15 0319-46U wireless problems

Hello and welcome,

The ThinkPad BIOS has a wifi whitelist.  A card has to be a whitelisted model and have a Lenovo FRU number or the laptop will refuse to boot.  Generic cards - even with the correct model number - won't boot on an unmodified BIOS.

Page 113 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual  lists the compatible models and FRU numbers.

Hey, I have a Thinkpad Edge 13 and I've just installed WIndows7 on it. The problem is I've installed all the drivers that I could find on the lenovo site for the wireless card but none of them would work. In Device manager the network card is still unidentified. From what I've seen all the lenovo drivers are for Intel cards but Everest tells me the network card is a Realtek PCIe BGE family card. I've also installed the drivers from Realtek but still nothing. The network card is enabled in BIOS and I've tried the Fn wireless switch to no aval. Any ideas? Thanks

New ThinkPad owner here. I'm confused over which ThinkPad Wireless driver to use with my new laptop.  The download site for my model contains both the 1x1 version under "Networking" and the 2x2 version under "Wireless". Thanks for any replies!

zaqxsw, welcome to the forum,

could you please post your type and model numer, this will help members help you in identifying which WLAN card you have installed.  The number is located on a white sticker on the bottom of your ThinkPad and consits of a 4 + 3 letters or numbers. Please DO NOT post your s/n.
