Preferred Solution: Compatibility of E430-CTO-3254 for 256 GB SSD SanDisk

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Dear Sir,Recently i have purchased E430 3254-T3Q in that i have got 2 Gb of RAM,i wanted  to upgrade it with another 4Gb so i added a 4Gb 1333 Mhz of RAM but the performance of my machine has degaraded it hangs up so many...can u plz tell me the exact cause and solution for this

Answer:RAM ISSUE E430 3254-T3Q machine

Hey there mansoor035,

What are the specs of the 2GB RAM stick you have installed? If you remove it and leave the 4GB do you still encounter hangs? Looking at the parts compatibility matrix the E430 lists the following as lenovo supported options:

2GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600 SODIMM Memory
4GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600 SODIMM Memory
8GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600 SODIMM Memory

From what I can see, typically the E430 ships with DDR3-1600 sticks, so they may be conflicting against each other, and be causing the symptoms you are seeing. If you are able, try a 4GB DDR3-1600 stick. I hope this helps.

I have Lenovo Thinkpad E430-3254-T3Q , i have inserted the SIM in card slot. Now What are the steps to use the WWAN by Card(SIM). I have tried using 3G and 2G enabled SIM card, but not succeeded to take the advantage of WWAN network.  Appreciate your reply.

Answer:How to Configure WWAN Card on E430-3254-T3Q

Hi, shanawazway

You will need to have a WWAN card installed in your system, which is different than a SIM card, to access mobile networks. To check and see if a WWAN card is installed in your system, you can use Device Manager. In here, underneath Network Adapters, what options do you have? If a WWAN card is not installed, then one will have to be purchased before WWAN is possible.

Hope it helps,Adam

I'm using E430 (3254-B62) in S.Korea and it is so nice product for me.But basic WLAN card is crap, you know. It is 1x1 model of Broadcom so max connect bandwidth is too low. So I decided to replace it to Intel 6250 Wimax(60Y3195) because it is listed in system part list of E430.(E430 System Part List) And I bought it on Ebay by searching with its FRU ID "60Y3195". At first, I was sure that It will works perfectly on E430 but I got the 1802 error message on BIOS.(1802:Unauthorized network card is installed...) Why can't I use listed product of correct FRU ID which is listed on Lenovo official service document? Please let me know about it.

Answer:Replacing WLAN card of E430(3254)

Good day and welcome to the community.

Does the card you installed have a Lenovo FRU sticker on it? If not, then it is probably the generic version of the 6250, which will throw the 1802 error, as you describe. Many parts sold on eBay will list the FRU #, but will be the generic card, rather than the OEM-specific card.

If this is your case, I would suggest that you ask to return the card and shop for a genuine FRU part.

Regards.

I was wondering if someone could help me with this... Recently I noticed that the AES-NI feature of the Core i5-3210M processor in my ThinkPad Edge E430 is not being detected by the operating system. I remember that, when I first got my computer, AES-NI was being recognized by other applications, like CPU-Z and TrueCrypt. However, since then I updated my BIOS to version 2.04, upgraded to Windows 8 and rolled back to 7, only to discover that AES-NI is no longer available. I tried upgrading to BIOS v. 2.08, but that didn't help. I also booted from a Linux live USB, and AES-NI is not detected either. Is there anything I can try? The only thing I can think of is rolling back the BIOS to an old version. Would that be worth the trouble? Or should I just contact Support?

Hey there thiyagarajaner,

I believe you are using the ThinkPad 11b/g/n 1x1 WiFi card. Have you tried using the System Update Tool? This typically will instal the drivers that match your system. Hope this helps.

As an alternative there is also this driver, that may work in the even that the one from Broadcom does not.

Hi,

Has anyone ever tried installing a SanDisk SSD to a Toshiba Satellite laptop or know if these two in general are compatible or not?

I am specificially looking into insalling a 240 GB SanDisk Ultra II SSD on my Toshiba A200-1BP, or PSAECE-01U00XTE, to replace the existing 160 GB Toshiba 2.5" SATA HDD (MK1637GSX).

The SSD seems to have the right form (2.5") and the interface (SATA) but I am not sure if these two are enough to ensure compatibility. Unfortunately, SanDisk says (unlike Crucial for example) it does not provide compatibility information for specific computer models. Thank you.

Hi I recently purchased this Thinkpad. with i3 2nd Gen Processor. I chose the Windows 8 OS. 14" screen, 2 GB RAM, etc. I chose this one over Dell Inspirion 15R as liked the sturdy looks and keypad easy to operate and overall looks.  Upon opening the system it was noticed that it has been loaded with Windows 7 Professional License.Windows 8 CDs are provided along with it. Still there are new update notifications coming. Uninstall Symantec and install MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials), they seem to suffer a bit of crapware that slows the system down. But when it's uninstalled, the laptop will run smoothly.Install the updates it asks you to install, make sure you have not tampered with the BIOS settings as well as it can decrease performance.

Hello Lenovo community! I've had a Thinkpad for years now - it's old enough it still says IBM Thinkpad - and it's time for a new computer, so I'll be ready against the sad day this one can't handle what I need anymore. I've narrowed it down to two Thinkpads, but I can't decide between them or see what the differences between them are. Perhaps someone here knows? The two are the Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E430 627156U and the Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E430 3254AEU. They both have 4 gigs of RAM and 500 gigs of Hard Drive space, though I think the 56U has a chiclet keyboard and the AEU has beveled. Does anyone know if the 56U has a full sized keyboard despite being chiclet? (I'm a writer, so the keyboard is a deal maker or breaker. It's also why I'm looking at 14" screens - all the 15.6" ones have that number pad and the keyboard shoved to the side. All I can see is that the keyboards are "Spill resistant", which doesn't tell me the size of the keys.)Does anyone have any knowledge of these two machines? Or even opinions on the two?

Answer:What's the difference? Thinkpad E430 56U vs Thinkpad E430 AEU

Hey there ChangelingChild,

I found this threadhere that may of be some interest to you. I see in the PSRef that both machines you are looking at come with a 6-row, spill resistant, multimedia FN keys keyboard. Where are you seeing a beveled keyboard? Generally they are island style/chiclet full sized keyboards. I'm certain some our E430 users should have some feedback as well.

It looks like the Primary difference between the machines lay with the processor, it's compatibility with RAM modules, and the integrated graphics. The 3210M appears to out perform the 2450M but you will need to take a look at this and see for yourself of the impact to your day to day performance/usage. You can see more indepth information when looking at the PSRef and comparing the two.

Question: widi for E430

Just wondering if WiDi is supported on E430. I checked hardware requirments, it satisfies all of them. Have also installed all the necessory softwares and drivers by using Intel's update utility. But when I start WiDi software and try to scan the hardware it says no adapter found. I have LG 32LM6410 TV which supports screen sharing by WiDi, I guess that means it has inbuilt adapter for screen sharting. When I scan for device it does detect my laptop as available device in list, but when I try to connect from TV it fails. Where as on laptop it does not detect anything. What could be problem, any suggestions?

Question: E430 do CUDA

Hi all, I am (hopefully) looking forward to buy this laptop, however can someone confirm is it possible to play with NVIDIA CUDA 4 (I mean to install and use CUDA Toolkit 4.0 and SDK) in current form (with GeForce GT 630M) ? I read in some earlier topic that it is possible to choose in BIOS from integrated graphics e.g. Intel HD 4000 and switchable, which is handled by NVIDIA Optimus, so there is no explicite discrete graphics selection, also someone complained that latest NVIDIA drivers are not working. By the way I will be happy to know what actually is this GT 630M. Is it Kepler 40 nm or 28 nm, DDR3 or GDDR5 memory ? Thanks in advance

Answer:E430 do CUDA

The E430 only has the integrated Intel graphics card.

Hello, I bought a thinkpad edge E430 (3254CTO) on may, and I'm really happy with it, so I was thinking of upgrading everything I could or at least knowing what I can upgrade to do it later on.The ram is probably the easiest to upgrade, since it came with 1 ddr3 4gb stick. I understand it's 1600mhz ram and 1.5v? Should I match these specs in the second ram stick I want to install?About the cpu, it came with a sandy i5 2450M, and I've seen it also ships with i5 3210m and i7 3612qm. Can I just swap the cpu for one of these ivies (also upgrading from hd3000 to hd4000 I understand) and have it working just fine? Are there any other ivies I can swap it for? Or can I not swap it for an ivy at all?And what about waiting for haswell? Will it be compatible or is it as far-fetched as it sounds? Finally, can I install a discrete gpu? I've seen some models come with 640m (or 630m?) nvidia gpu, so would I be able to install something like that? And if so, would I be able to switch and choose between that and the integrated gpu at any time?Sorry for so many questions, and thanks in advance for ant help or recommendations on this.

The only benefits of the E530 over the E430 from my own personal view are the offering of the 1600 x 900 resolution screen upgrade and the dedicated numpad. If you don't care about these two extra options, then i would just get the E430. The weight difference is around 500 to 600 grams, which may not sound much on paper, but if you do carry the laptop a lot, then it will make a difference in the long run.

I am selecting a new Lenovo laptop and i am leaning towards an Edge model with USB 3.0. I see that you can order a generation 2 or generation 3 i series cpu such as the i5-2450m or i5-3210m. In this case both have the same basic specs and the same price. Some research suggests that the gen 3 cpu has marginally better cpu performance, can have significantly better gpu performance (3000 vs 4000 gpu) depending on the application, but the gen 3 runs 10-15 degrees hotter. Which one is recommended?

Answer:E430/530 cpu choice

if the price is the same, i would choose the i5-3210m.

Question: E430 Fan error

My 3 month old Thinkpad edge E430 started giving me an error on startup. As soon as I boot up I hear a loud system beep and "Fan Error" message on the screen.Interestingly, the laptop boots fully without shutting down after the error and seems to be working perfectly without any hitch for the past 1 hour. Also, the initial burst of ventilation the fan does on startup worked too! Now, I'm worried that the fan or it's controller might have some problems that might end up costing me in the long term. I'm rather reluctant to send it to be checked under warranty because of my previous experience with Lenovo CS. I wasn't pleased! Any insight would be very much appreciated. Especially if a Lenovo support staff could chime in

Answer:E430 Fan error

I also had a Fan Error message. But it disappeared after I rebooted. I'm sorry for your problem

Odd that it doesn't recognize 3254AU1. You sure that's your model?Anyway, just go to drivers & software and download all you need for the general 3254 model, no need to be so specific.http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?#You should probably start with the Thinkvantage System Update and go from there. Good luck.

Hi, I wanted to upgrade the RAM in my e430 from one 4GB SIMM to two 4GB SIMM's. When I went to Crucial to check out the options: http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=ThinkPad%20Edge%20E430&Cat=RAM I saw that the RAM came in two different voltages ->  1.35V and 1.5V How do I chose? Any suggestions? Thanks ThinkPad community!

Answer:RAM upgrade for E430 - 1.35V or 1.5V ?

All other things being equal, lower voltage = less heat. I replaced my E420 factory 2GBx2 1.5v memory with 4GBx2 1.35v Crucial memory. Performance is excellent, Windows index for memory is now 7.4.

Hello,

I recently had issues with my PSU and rather than play guesswork on whether its still functional, I rather just replace it.

My motherboard is a m3n78-pro. Its a bit dated but I'd like for this pc to last another 6 months before I build an entirely new rig. If I read the manual correctly, it requires ATX 12V V2.0.

The PSU I'd like to change to (since it just has to last another 6 months) this 900 w PSU. Would the m3n78-pro be compatible with this PSU? One concern I had was that the m3n78-pro requires a 4 pin ATX +12v connector. If I read the PSU's specifications correctly it has one 12V 8-pin (4 + 4) CPU power connector. Is that 8-pin two separate power connector, ie do I just use 1 of the connectors to fit into the 4 pin ATX +12v connector?

Please excuse my noobishness but what exactly does the v2.92 Motherboard specification entail? I tried to google it, but got less useful information and product results from newegg.

Also I read the wiki on the ATX 12V V2.X standard, but it didn't answer my question - is ATX12V v2.3 backwards compatible with the ATX12V v2.0 standard?
Thank you very much for any help you can give.

Hello,I bought a Thinkpad E430 in June and have used it without trouble until October. My problem is the integrated camera. It worked fine when I bought the computer, but it stopped working. I was able to get it going again by reinstalling the driver, but it's stopped again and the driver isn't even being recognized when I install it and restart my computer. Most of my troubles are similar to this person's only I know that my computer was shipped with a camera: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/Help-with-an-E530-integrated-camera-that-can-t-be... When I open up web conferencing, it only gives me audio options and when I try to set it up with the device manager it only has the lexmark and xerox options.I tried to just f11 on startup and redo everything, but it gave me an error in doing that.

Answer:Help with E430 Integrated camera

Hi ladtoyourleft,

Can you pinpoint when/how the malfunction happened?
Did it happen suddenly or did it progessively get worse over time?

I ask to see if there is a point that we might be able to roll back to.

Were there any changes made before the camera stopped working?

Hi, since I don't know what else to do with my battery charging to only 48%, I've uninstalled Win 8 and installed Win 7 Enterprise 64 bit. That dind't solve the problem. However, I've checked the BIOS for Win 7 and the newest version is 1.18, but I've already upgraded mine to 2.08 (for Win 8). I'm now running Win 7 on Win 8 BIOS. I've tried to downgrade with CD and Update Utility, but it failed both times. Should I just leave as it is or what else can I do? Thanks. Henrik P.S.: it's 3 weeks now that I own my computer and instead of working I'm just troubleshooting various issues... Hello community! I recently got a ThinkPad E430, and I love it.  I have one minor issue regarding bootability. As a Linux user, I regularly boot from usb and cd while trying out various distributions and whatnot.  I discovered though that I cannot boot from my USB 3.0 ports.  Not only that, but my computer will not boot if I have anything plugged in to them.  I thought first that I had fudged my dd command in transferring the image, but the usb key works from the 2.0 port. So I thought maybe it was the usb key itself, but this occurs with all my usb flash drives 2.0 and 3.0.   I noticed a recent bios update a couple days ago, but I don't want to go through the trouble if it does not actually bring any benefits.  In fact looking at the changelog itt says that it only adds support for the B430. I guess I would really just like to know if other people face this problem.  Thanks!

I've been recently encountering this problem where my touchpad and trackpoint are both unresponsive. I still have 3 issues that have not been resolved and would like some help. 1) Many times the computer refuses to shut down or restart, it stays stuck on the restart of shut down screen for hours and requires me to press the power button to boot down. 2) closing the lid to put the laptop into sleep causes the computer to restart sometimes or the computer refuses to wake from sleep,  a black screen is all that is visible with no pointer.  3) The final issues is that  TVSU was uninstalled and when I try to reinstall it get an error saying that the installation was interrupted before it could be completed.

I have looked around trying to see if there it's a specific optical bay battery that is compatible for the E430. I have failed to find anything that gives me a concise answer. Would someone mind filling me in? I would like to know before I buy one or allocate the money to other wants.

There is no optical bay battery for the Edge as they lack the battery connector. The SATA port in the bay cant draw that much power from a battery to power the entire system.

I'm running windows 8 on my e430 with BIOS version 15.02.Lately i've been having multiple problems with my computer, including USB speeds, HDMI connection issues, and wireless radio problems. My USB ports are giving me USB 2.0 speeds (25 mb/s) with a 3.0 hard drive, although I used to get 3.0 speeds about a month ago. Connecting to certain TVs with an HDMI cord also does not work, though it works with my monitor and other TVs. Whenever I resume my computer from sleep or from start-up, the system does not remember my preferences for wireless radios, and automatically turns both bluetooth and wi-fi on. Does anyone know if these problems can be caused by new programs being installed or by the BIOS or something else? I have recently installed Soluto and F.lux on my PC but that is it.

Answer:Multiple problems on E430

Hello r814!

Can you please verify the BIOS version on your system for me? You can do this from the desktop by going to the Run Command, type "msinfo32". In case you would like it, Here is a link with more detailed instructions.

I searched the Lenovo Support site for the E430 BIOS, it looks like the current BIOS version is 2.08 and was released on 7 Jan 2013. http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS033265

Can you tell us what model (machine type) of E430 you have and what operating system it is running? The machine type can be found on a sticker on the bottom of the unit. If possible can you post a screen shot of your current BIOS. This is quite interesting!

Hi, I'm looking for some technical information on the latest E430 with the 3rd gen i7-3612QM processor. All of the existing E430 documentation is for the older 2nd gen Sandy Bridge and indicates a max RAM of 8 GB (4GB per slot) for the E430. However, Intel indicates that the i7-3612QM supports up to 32GB of (DDR3/L/-RS 1333) RAM or 16GB of (DDR3/L/-RS 1600) RAM. Unfortunately, I am ignorant as to the many factors that affect the amount of RAM useable in a latop. I do know this CPU can support 16 or 32 GB of RAM. What might be a limiting factor in the E430 that would artificially limit RAM to 8GB? Is it the number of available slots? Is it the chipset? Or can the i7-3612QM E430 actually use two 8GB (or 16GB) RAM modules? Thank you!

Answer:Clarification on Max RAM for e430 with i7-3612QM

Hi larsknox,

You've already answered yourself. Actually everything counts. From CPU, chipset, RAM slot, motherboard wiring...
Your assumption is correct, BUT we have to ensure the machine operates in best and most stable condition.
You can feel free to try 16GB RAM BUT this is not guarantee. Anyway 8GB RAM is more than enough for everyday applications right?

I am choosing a new Lenovo laptop and have been looking at the W, T, and E series Thinkpads. I am trying to get my goals accomplished with some cost savings so an E series is my first shot. I am looking at the 430 and 530 to get USB3 and a gen3 i series CPU. My first question relates to mSATA. How is this drive connected? Does it consume one of the 2 mini PCIe slots? Does it become a seperate drive with a unique drive letter (iow, does it function like a completely seperate HDD)? Can I put whatever I want on either drive (OS, data, etc)? What are the parameters on what kind of mSATA drive I can use? Is there any benefit to having the 16G mSATA drive installed in the new build? Thanks, George

Answer:mSATA for E430/E530

it uses the WWAN slot, which is the full size mPCIe slot, the other mPCIe slot is a half length slot for the wireless card. If you install the drive yourself, then it can become a separate hdd. You can put data or OS on it, like a normal hdd.If you get the one shipped (16 gigs or 32 gigs mSATA from factory) with the laptop from the factory, then the drive will be used as a cache where temporary files that are frequently accessed, it speeds up the laptop. But it won't be a separate hdd element.

Can you please take a picture of your keyboard and post it here? The E430 machines that I have used have always had the PrtSc button located to the right of the spacebar. If your machine does not have this, post a picture of the keyboard so the community can better guide you on how to enable this, if possible,

Thanks in advance,Adam

Hi, I have a three months old Thinkpad Edge E430 laptop. I have an issue with wifi connections. I am not able to connect to any wifi, in office and home. I see that my friends with other brand laptop do it with ease. I just don't get it. I have installed (latest version) of Access connection, tried without it, no help from windows troubleshoot help. Windows troubleshoot says it is unable to find the problem cause. No help from Access connection troubleshoot too. I have all the updated drivers for all network devices in my system. But I am able to connect to internet via LAN cable. Ethernet port is working good. I have a tab(non lenovo), that connects to wifi network with ease. I don't think that the problem is with my office network or home network. I have a 64-bit PC and have installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit edition. Please let me know if am missing something or do let me know a solution for the problem. Thanks in advance.

Answer:E430 wifi not working

Hi J4hari,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the community.

Based from your post it does appear that your machine may have a conflict with the wireless. You, mentioned that you have newly installed the Win7 Ultimate on your machine. And based from What i can from your screen shot it does appear that you're missing a driver.

I would really suggest you to go to the support site http://support.lenovo.com and ensure that you have installed all the drivers there. This will ensure that your machine will be running optimally. Another thing that you should check is if you have a program called "RapidBoot Sheild" installed from the list of "Program and Features" from the control panel. If you find there, please uninstallit as it has been found to interrupt with otther software processes.

Hope this helps and do let me know of the changes.

Regards

Hello all,I have seen a lot of posts with instructions what to do when bluetooth doesn't work. I tried everything so maybe someone will suggest something I didn't find. Problem:I can't install bluetooth drivers because it is not enabled. When I use F9 there is no icon of bluetooth in "Indyvidual control"There is no bluetooth devices in Device Manager. I have installed "Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Software for Bluetooth Technology" . I can't remove/update it because there is error that bluetooth need to be enabled to do it. I tried to reinstall (uninstall and install again) most of drivers from lenovo site with notebook restarting but nothing happens. In BIOS bluetooth is enabled.I am fighting with this from 6 hours, waste one working day with no effects and I start thinking about suicide.  Can you suggest any other solution? I will try reinstall windows in the worst case, but now I have no time to do this.  Best regards,Mikolaj

Hello freindsFinally I decided to share a bad experiece. I regret to my decision of purchasing the Lenovo machine. My Thinkpad E430 is in frankfurt (Germany) repair centre since one month for repair.

After upgrading to Windows 8 and reinstalling all drivers, my E430 began turning itself on when I opened the lid. This occurs borth from Hibernate and when I have completely Shut Down the computer.  I even waited to close the lid until the power light was off just to be sure.  I did not have this issue in Windows 7.  This may be considered a "feature" if the computer is hibernated, but I can't see any reason for this behavior if the comptuer is completely turned off. Uninstalling Levono Power Management Driver (version 1.66.0.22; geku18ww.exe) seemed to fix the problem, but apparently after the latest windows update the system turns on whether it is installed or not and system restore fails to roll back changes. Setting "Choose what closing the lid does" to "Nothing" in the Power Optinos control panel does stop the auto power-on, but then there is no easy way to put the computer to sleep.  Navigating through the charms bar to get to the sleep option in the power menu is horrible UI design so if Levono is going to force the power on when I open the lid I guess I'll have to learn to live with it.

My E430 is running very slowly.  I did a hardware scan and it reported Result Code: WHD01V012-UM7VXK on Device: ST500LM021-1KJ152 - 465.76 GBs (ie HDD).  Can anyone advise the meaning of the error code?  The E430 still runs (albeit slowly), implying that it is not a catastrophic HDD failure.

Literally, every single time when I boot my E430, it will freeze at the first time when I boot it. My solution is wait till after it displayed my desktop wallpaper, and confirm the curse freezes in the middle, then I hit the power button to make it enter sleep mode, then hit it again to awake it, enter system, then the freeze will eliminate. Is there any once and for all solution for this kind of problem? Thank you very much!

I have a 5-year-old laptop E430. Current CPU is i5-2450m. I did some research and found H77 chipset support both 2nd and 3rd gen Intel CPUs. I'm planning to upgrade to either i7-3612qm or i7-3632qm. Both models have the max TDP of 35W, same with my current CPU. I have seen models of E430 came with 3612qm in stock. But 3612qm seems a bit difficult to find on eBay with a cheaper price. So my question is whether 3632qm is also compatible with my laptop.  I appreciate for any suggestions and answers.

Answer:E430-CPU upgrade from i5-2450m to i7 3rd gen

On the official Lenovo E430 parts list (https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/e430_intel_fru_bom_20140313.pdf) the i7-3632QM is listed as being compatible with the laptop, so it should work.

Just happened to me.Worked fine all day. When I got home, it refused to boot. No errors, no activity on the screen - not even backlight. No beeps. The fan spins up for a couple of seconds, then it goes quiet.Help! Edit:It DOES turn on.Sometimes. On AC. Never on battery power only. And usually only on the second attempt.Once it does start, it works fine - no problems whatsoever.  So, after some fiddling, here are my conclusions:It's not related to RAM, HDD, mSATA SDD or ODD - ripped it all out - except for 1 stick of RAM.With or without battery, on AC it will *probably* start on the second attempt.Had a theory about the screen hinges and the lid 'sleep' switch malfunctioning, as it seemed to work most consistently when the screen is pushed back as far as it goes. But that's probably nonsense. Anyway no idea how to test it.System board malfunction out of warranty? **bleep**, it didn't last 2 years. Edit2: Yup, it works on the second attempt, when plugged in AC: Power ON --> Fan spins --> Screen dead --> Power OFF --> Power ON again --> POST screen appears, loading Win8, everything works.Disconnecting the charger, once it works, does nothing. The battery is in very good shape. Never charged above 80%, rarely discharged below 20%. I used to get 3-4 hrs of battery life. Seeing the thread about E540 users having similar issues i tried updating drivers, changing power settings, disconnecting the clock battery and even updating t... Answer:[E430] "Plugged in, not charging"

Hello again lemming2030!

I've seen this trick from themes.net work before, try this:

First Disconnect your A/C adapter, shut down and remove the battery.
Connect the A/C adapter and turn your E430 back on.
From the Charm Bar search and open the Device Manager.
Expand your battery and right click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery
Select Uninstall, Shutdown your computer, Disconnect your A/C adapter.
Insert your Battery and upon reboot Windows should automatically reinstall the Power Manager.

The 720p webcam in my new Edge E430 (I just got it last Thursday) is not working properly. When I use the Communications Utility or Skype, the green light next to the webcam turns on, but the image window only shows a completely black image. Also, when I increase the brightness or contrast settings of the webcam, the image becomes completely gray or completely white. The Device Manager shows two devices - the "Integrated Camera" and the "Virtual Camera." I have already tried uninstalling/reinstalling the webcam drivers, but that hasn't helped. What else can I do?

Answer:E430 - Webcam not working

Try this first. ..go into Lenovo ThinkVantage Utilities>Web Conferencing>under Camera Settings>click Show my video image and see if your image shows up.

When did you reinstall your drivers?  If before July 17, could you uninstall and reinstall your webcam driver from this page:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT073272

You should also make sure your webcam settings are set up correctly in Skype, under Tools>Options>Video Settings.

I've had quite a ride with this E430... to the point that I question where my future purchases will come from. This E430 is brand new (well, it's a few months old, but it hasn't been used much at all). It was a spare to a fleet of other E430's that we had at work. This spare is now ready to be put to use. I personally do not use Windows. I use Linux for everything, whether it's a server for a business or an email checker for grandma. I put openSUSE on this laptop, but it would not charge past 0%. I put Ubuntu on it to compare, but it too would not charge. I decided to go back to Windows 8 in the name of troubleshooting, but even Windows 8 would not charge the battery. This issue seemed all too familiar, as we needed to install some sort of Lenovo Power Manager on our fleet of E430's in order to get them to charge on Windows 7. Why you need third party Windows only software to enable the hardware to charge is something that is totally beyond me. But whatever, moving along... I installed the power manager driver from the Lenovo downloads page, but after the reboot, nothing changed. I was still stuck without the ability to charge. If I pull the battery out, press the power button, put it back in, boot without the battery, stand on my head, doesn't matter. This sucker is not working. On one hand I'd like to choke up the fact that perhaps this is a bad battery, but considering the magnitude of frustration that came from the other E430's, and the fact that this laptop onl... Answer:E430 - plugged in not charging.

Fortunately it seems as if this battery is simply dead. I'm really not sure how a battery that is a few months old but has less than 5 hours of actual use tanks, but whatever. At least there's some sort of indication on the table. I found another E430 system here and swapped the battery. In both Windows 8 and Linux it was charging just fine, which is a tremendous relief, because if I would have been forced to use some sort of Lenovo Power Management software (which of course would be Windows only supported) this system wouldn't be of any use to me. For now I'm going to put openSUSE back on it and just rely on the AC adapter until the battery gets in. Unfortunately they are out of stock, but at least the replacement order was issued.

Hi All, I just bought a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E430(3254-1B6) but I am not able to turn it on if I install the battery and even I am not able start it on direct power supply using the adaptor(After removing the battery). My Vendor told me to charge the battery for 12 hours. My vendor also told me that ThinkPad laptop does not start without battery. Please let me know what may be the actual problem with my laptop.

Answer:Not able to turn on Thinkpad E430

Hi, charankalcut

If the machine will not start when the AC adapter is plugged in with or without the battery, and there are no lights or sounds, then I think this system has a faulty systemboard.  One thing you can try is to remove the batter and the AC adapter from the machine and then hold down the power button for thirty seconds. This will remove all power from the machine. Once complete, put the battery back in, connect the AC adapter and try to turn it on again. If there are no lights, sounds, or other signs of power, then it sounds like a bad systemboard, in which case I would either contact the vendor or Lenovo support at 1800-3070-7555 or 1800-425-2666. Also, if plugged in, the system should be able to work without the battery.

Best,
Adam

Answer:E430 Device Driver Problems

Hey there pmor1945 and welcome to the forums!

To better assist you with what we are looking at, what version of windows are you currently using? Are these problems recent? Do you know if you had any updates to drivers, software or utilities when is started? If you will also provide your machine type and model number, it is a 7 digit alphanumerical code found on the sticker on the underside of your machine.

What we immediately know about Code 19 from Microsoft:

Code 19
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. This can occur when more than one service is defined for a device, if there is a failure opening the service subkey, or if the driver name cannot be obtained from the service subkey. To fix this problem you can first try running a Troubleshooting Wizard. If that does not work, you should uninstall and then reinstall the hardware device. (An alternative here is to backup to a previous point on the computer when the error was not occurring.)

Answer:Thinkpad E430 failed to power on

Not to be a Harbinger of ill-tidings, but this sounds similar to the wide-spread problems Lenovo had with the 420 and 520 series. I owned an Edge 520, which was subsequently replaced by lenovo with my current E530, after shipping the e520 machine to the service center in Tenn. 5 separate times. Rumor has it that the 420 and 520 suffered from a design flaw in their Systems-Board (Mother-Board), causing them to do-away with the 20's series and re-designing the Systems-Board of the 430 and 530 Series. I certainly hope that yours is an isolated case, and furthermore that it is easily remedied. This reply is basically an FYI, and I send it with hopes that when your system is repaired it never recurs. Every time I shut off my E520, I never knew if it would power-on the following day......fruhlpmd.......

My laptop thinkpad Edge e430 is not powering up. When I plug in the AC cord the LED indicator does not turn on. I have checked the AC adapter with the multimeter and it gives 20 volt output. So the AC adapter is fine.  The laptop also does not power on with a fully charged batter. I have removed the HDD, Memory, Optical drive and the CMOS battery and then pressed the power button for 30 seconds. The laptop does not wake up.  It is quite weird as the laptop should show some kind of error So i may have an idea what is happening.  Discussing with people on other forums gives me an idea that the power setup of the laptop is faulty. Can some body here guide me to what the problem is and how can i fix it?

Ok so I have had this issue for the past 2 weeks and cant seem to figure it out. Heck I doubt anyone else can either. I have installed linux mint on my e430 laptop. The trackpad is to sensitive on this laptop (with linux mint). There is no option on it to change it. The only options are to enable it disable it or turn off while typing. In order to answer this question you will probably have to know more about linux than lenevo itself but figured I would give it a try to see if anyone else is running a different os on their computer. I would go back to windows for now but I dont have a disc for it and didnt really bother for a backup sincing I have linux on my desktop and my previous laptops. If anyones knows a magical way of fixing this issue please let me know thank you

Answer:Lenevo e430 touchpad too sensitive

Hi, robster8719

I have a few possible solutions that may benefit you. Firstly, if you are unhappy with Mint and would like to reinstall Windows, you may be able to do so without a Windows disc if you installed Linux on a partition and did not wipe the entire drive. There may still be the recovery partition that shipped with the machine if it has not been erased. To find out, you can press Enter repeatedly during the Lenovo splash screen. This should bring up a menu, and one of the options should be to recover your system. Press the associated key and the recovery should start, provided the partition is there.
If this is not an option, I did find a thread about Linux Mint mouse speed and other users having the issue. One of the users, artstadlin, posted a solution to changing the mouse speed that worked for others, so it may benefit you. The thread can be found here. And for your convenience, the contents of the original post are shown below.

"I am using my Mint desktop with a USB mouse. Nothing unusual about the mouse. It is a Logitech wired USB two-button, wheel mouse that I picked up from a local office supply store. The pointer moves way too fast for my taste. Even my daughter said it was way too fast.

The solution usually is the adjust the speed sliders in the Mouse section of System Settings. I already set them to their slowest settings, so something needed to change under the hood. This web page had the answer.

Hi, harsha973

You can initiate recovery of your system with a few methods in Windows 8. The easiest is to do a system reset, which will remove everything currently on the hard drive and install Windows 8 to factory conditions, so it will be like it was when you first purchased the computer. To perform this reset, open up the Charms bar with Win + C and select Settings. From here, select Change PC settings. Next, select General and scroll to the bottom and select Get started under Remove everything and reinstall Windows. This should bring up a a few options. Select Just my files and the machine should begin reinstalling Windows 8. Be sure to backup and save all important files elsewhere before resetting the machine.

Hope it helps,
Adam

The keyboard on my laptop will type any character i press for ever, wherever text can be entered. If i open up a browser, and the first thing i type is w it will keep going "wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww....." It does this with any key, that is a letter or a number. It does not stop unless i restart it. The only reason i typed this up is because i used a usb keyboard. It works fine unless i press any key on the laptop's keyboard.

Answer:Thinkpad E430 Keyboard typing by itself

The only thing I can think of, is try creating a new user and see if it happens there.  If it still does, make yourself a linux live cd, and see if it does it there.  If it does, then it is for sure the keyboard and warraty that sh*t!  If not it is software based, and you need to clean that computer!

HiI own a Thinkpad E430(type 3254). It's about 14 months old. Yesterday, it randomly started having an issue with it's keyboard. It acts like the enter key is continuously pressed, and about 1 sec after I hit any other key it stops. The enter key by itself has stopped working, and only shorts sometimes and results in a continuous press. As soon as i boot, enter input is given and normal startup gets interrupted. If i press any key, it's normal again until an OS loads. For example, if i boot into debian, line breaks get inserted between the console messages that are displayed until i press a key, and if i boot windows, it gets stuck at the login screen because enter is given without the correct password so it loops. This behavior also happens sometimes randomly while working normally. The keyboard hasn't even seen heavy usage, or any drink spills. I usually keep the laptop at my desk, and use an external keyboard. The last time I took it out was 2 weeks ago.  Has anyone faced this issue before? I doubt it can be a software issue, so do I need a new keyboard? Thanks for the assistance.

Answer:Thinkpad E430 Keyboard Issue

ook so no one knows or no one bothered. anyway, i solved it and i'll leave it here.i called up lenovo's helpline, and they told me to remove ac power and the battery, and then keep the power button pressed for 2x30 seconds. Apparently, that drain static charge on the motherboard. That helped but only for a few minutes. Last night, i drained out the battery to 5% and now the issue is gone. I've recharged to 100% and the system is normal. I don't know what caused this, but it might have something to do with the lenovo power manager, which i recently installed.

Answer:e430 microphone problem in windows..

Hi, nokman

When in either Windows 7 or Windows 8, is the microphone visible and working properly in Device Manager? Also, if you right-click on the Sound icon on the taskbar and select Recording Devices, is the microphone listed here? If so, speak or make noise and see if the bar moves indicating that it is picking up sound. Lastly, select the Levels tab from here and make sure the volume is turned up to a sufficient amount. If all else fails, I would make sure that the latest drivers for your microphone and audio have been installed, which can be found here (Windows 7).

Hope it helps,
Adam
