ThinkPad Edge E430 Replacement Screen and Integrated Camera Questions

Question: ThinkPad Edge E430 Replacement Screen and Integrated Camera Questions

I read through the manual and am confident that I can take apart the machine, replace the cracked screen and put it back together. I replaced hinges in my old HP and a motherboard in my friends HP. My father was able to get me a great deal on this machine I have now. I put in some extra ram and a 32gb SSD for RapidBoot and I'm pretty much in love. I take great care of it but had an accident and dropped/cracked the screen.

The laptop was ordered custom so its a bit more of a challenge to find specific information on what the part #'s are. The laptop has working microphones but was not purchased with a webcam which I regret. I would like to replace the LCD panel and install an integrated camera in one fell swoop.

My questions are: What model number of LCD panel so I need. What model number of camera do I need. And lastly, will I need to purchase a new LCD cable that has the ability to plug into the camera? Or does my current LCD cable have a lone male cable plug waiting for a camera?

Machine Type: 3254
Serial #: xxxxxxx
CPU: i5-3210
HDD: 7200rpm 320gb
Came with 4gb of RAM

Thanks so much! Any advice here would be appreciated

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Hi, I was wandering about replacing my current cpu with something more powerful. I-3110m is ok but, i'm doing some work in Matlab and Solidworks, and sometimes my cpu chokes. The only thing that stops me from buying new cpu is heating of new cpu. i3-3110m is 35W TDP, so as i7-3612/32QM but they are incredibly hard to find in good prices. on the other hand there is i7-3610Qm which is easily found but runs on 45W TDP. Question is: How much hotter can my laptop get? Maybe someone has E430 with i7-3610qm?

I just bought Thinkpad Edge 14 two weeks ago. I've notice that Intergrated webcam stops responding. I have to download webcam driver from Lenovo Support again to make it work but it last only till I shut down the laptop. The same problem comes up the next time computer turns on. In Device Manager it doesn't detect it as a Camera but a Unkown USB Device. Once or twice installing the drivers fixed it for short time but looking for a stable and permanant solution. Any help??

I'm deciding between a thinkpad edge 15 with an i3-370m and a thinkpad edge e420 with an i3-2310 (for the intel hd 3000 graphics-light gamer). However, the e420 (in an ebay listing), says in tech specs "integrated camera: no". Assuming he filled out all the tech specs, is this true? Can an e420 i3-2310m 2.1 GHZ 4GB RAM not have an integrated camera? Or is it just a typo/ error when he typed it? Please answer quick I need to decide quickly which I should buy. If it doesn't have an integrated webcam I will not buy it.

Answer:Do all ThinkPad Edge E420 Laptops have an integrated camera?

hey Stealtshsz,i believe the listing is wrong as the tech specs >> http://www.lenovo.com/shop/americas/content/pdf/system_data/e420_tech_specs.pdfmentions that there is an integrated camera

I'm having trouble with my Thinkpad's integrated camera. Its not working, so I tried to reinstall the driver, and received a message that there wasn't a device for the driver. I know I HAVE a camera, but the OS doesn't seem to see it or know it exists. I'm running Windows 7 Professional (64-bit). Any suggestions?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E431 integrated camera not recognized

Hi Maxdaddio,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that webcam of your Lenovo ThinkPad E431 is not working.

Go to Control panel-> device manager -> Imaging devices and check if there is any driver with a yellow mark. Check in BIOS if integrated camera is enabled there.
Press FN+F6 to open the Communications settings window and press Show my video image button to enable the camera.
Go into Lenovo Settings App on Metro view, and select camera.
There will be the options of Private and Normal.
Select Normal.
Also, in Settings > Permissions, make sure that Skype and other similar apps have permission to access the Webcam or Microphone.

Go to testmycam and check if camera works there. This will help you to isolate if the issue is just with Skype or in general with the webcam.

Hope it helps!

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar.

Hello everyone, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E430 and it was working fine until today. Today I worked on the laptop as usual and just turned off the Fast Startup setting in the Windows 8 and then restarted the computer. Now it only shows a black screen (LCD backlights are on but there is nothing on the screen). I hear the usual BIOS beep sound but I can't see the BIOS screen or the Windows. I've tried to connect to a an external monitor via HDMI. Amazingly, both my laptop's screen and external monitor works fine when the laptop is connected to the external screen. But when I disconnect them, again I can only see the black screen. I turned on the Fast Startup settings in Windows 8, but it didn't work. Then I loaded the default settings from the BIOS and it didn't worked too. Finally I've installed Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS to test if it is because of the operating system but it didn't help too. I've tried all of this using the laptop's screen while it was connected to the external screen. It is very confusing for me. It seems like the screen is only working when an external screen is also connected to the laptop. I would be very happy if anyone can help me about this problem.

I got my ThinkPad a few days ago and I've finally gotten the camera to work. After I had finally fixed the camera by installing the proper drivers though, it came up with a new problem: the camera does not display color, nor does it let me enable anything to display colors. The "ColorEnable" option is grayed out when I access its settings through the ThinkVantage Communications Utility. I've tried modifing every single option to no avail. No matter what application uses the webcam, it's always in grayscale. Even if just the laptop itself is the only one using it, it's still in grayscale. It leads me to believe that it's a problem with the camera itself and not any one application. I have not been able to find any solution at all no matter how hard I try to look. Any help would be appreciated. All my camera drivers are up to date as of today. Windows 7 Pro, 64-bitLenovo ThinkPad Edge e540

Answer:ThinkPad Edge e540 integrated camera only in grayscale/black and white

I have the same problem. I have returned the laptop 2 times to the technical service, but according to them, there is no failure in the hardware... The first time they answered that the problem comes from the drivers or updates, but I had everything updated.I have realized that the camera is in color when the illumination of the room is high enough, but in blank and white the rest of the time.In my case I have Windows 8 installed.I am starting to be fed up with that issue because, if there is no problem with the hardware and the camera is working properly that way, it must be indicated in the specifications of the product that we buy a black and white camera as in the 70s.

Hi there, I'm well aware that there are a few of these problems listed for last year but I've tried a lot of what is given as solutions to the problem and I have not yet discovered why mine isn't working.- My camera used to work fineI was using it all the time, every day last year to speak to someone via skype etc. Now that i'm with them I hadn't had any use for it.-It no longer is even recognised by the machine.Lenovo Settings doesn't list a camera options menu, the device manager doesn't even have 'Imaging Devices' listed whatsoever. Here is proof: http://imgur.com/NY0VS0T-What did I do?I possibly deleted something while I was doing a PC clean up of stuff I didn't use (my laptop was starting to run sluggish and some spring cleaning really boosted the speed). This might be my fault but i'm hoping I can un-break it. So my question is this...-What Drivers, Programs & Facilities do I need to download again to make the camera work?I thank everyone so much in advance for their help

Hello,I bought a Thinkpad E430 in June and have used it without trouble until October. My problem is the integrated camera. It worked fine when I bought the computer, but it stopped working. I was able to get it going again by reinstalling the driver, but it's stopped again and the driver isn't even being recognized when I install it and restart my computer. Most of my troubles are similar to this person's only I know that my computer was shipped with a camera: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/Help-with-an-E530-integrated-camera-that-can-t-be... When I open up web conferencing, it only gives me audio options and when I try to set it up with the device manager it only has the lexmark and xerox options.I tried to just f11 on startup and redo everything, but it gave me an error in doing that.

Answer:Help with E430 Integrated camera

Hi ladtoyourleft,

Can you pinpoint when/how the malfunction happened?
Did it happen suddenly or did it progessively get worse over time?

I ask to see if there is a point that we might be able to roll back to.

Were there any changes made before the camera stopped working?

Hi, I would like to buy a Lenovo Thinkpad. There are pretty good offers at the Outlet. I am not sure about the model that I should get. I am deciding between the L430 and the E430. While I have a preference for the L430, I have some concerns/questions: Regardless of the model choice, will a 14inch screen be enough for school and other stuff like watching movies? What are the advantages of the E430? Some models are priced higher than the L430. Background:I currently have a 15.6inch laptop. I think I want a smaller one as I need to carry my computer to school. The 15.6 inch is pretty heavy. However, I am very used to that format and a bit scared that a 14inch might be too small. E.g. if I work with Excel, Word, or Outlook. Although the L430 seems to be the more robust computer with the better specifications as compared to the E430, the L430 looks a bit old and it might not be as good as e.g. for watching movies. I want to use my computer both for school and free time. Thanks for your help! Yellow Squash

My laptop thinkpad Edge e430 is not powering up. When I plug in the AC cord the LED indicator does not turn on. I have checked the AC adapter with the multimeter and it gives 20 volt output. So the AC adapter is fine.  The laptop also does not power on with a fully charged batter. I have removed the HDD, Memory, Optical drive and the CMOS battery and then pressed the power button for 30 seconds. The laptop does not wake up.  It is quite weird as the laptop should show some kind of error So i may have an idea what is happening.  Discussing with people on other forums gives me an idea that the power setup of the laptop is faulty. Can some body here guide me to what the problem is and how can i fix it?

Hello everybody, this is my first post here as I just bought an Edge e430 from Lenovo. It came with Win 8 installed (let's skip this) and as I tried to connect to the LAN for verifying the license I realized that I did not have any network connection. No way to connect, no matter what I clicked and what I switched on/off.... no connection (even the local one). As I am a Linux user, after figuring out how to boot from CD I tried Linux on a Live CD to see whether it was a Win 8 issue or a card one. No connection there too. Trying to set up here and there I think I grasped the problem, however I does not make any sense to me. Is it possible that the new model is IPv6 only (with no IPv4 retrocompatibility). If this is the case (I repeat: it doesn't make sense) what should I do to make it working, at least in Win 8? Thank you very much for your time. P.S. Forgot to say that I don't have any WiFi to try.

Answer:Thinkpad edge e430 ethernet problem

Ok, I see no reply but I keep updating the problem. I took the pc to work, connected the cable and.... tada! Connection working! I am actually posting it from the Linux live CD. The question is, why my home LAN isn't working??? I used it for over one year and had (at least) 5 different laptops connected without the smallest glitch. Any ideas?

Hi everyone,About a year and a half ago I bought a ThinkPad Edge E430 and its been working fine, until last week when I got a terrible virus which really corrupted my computer. I've managed to remove the malware, but as a result the registry is still damaged. I cannot change folder options, my start menu is blank, all my files have been moved to a TEMP file among all these other issues. I've run multiple malware scanners and registry repair programs but these issues aren't resolving. So I'm thinking that I'll need to just reinstall windows 7, to completely repair the registry and ensure everything is back to normal. I've backed up all my files, but my concern is about the reinstallation itself. How could I do this when Windows 7 came preloaded onto the laptop, so I don't have the installation disk. And would the product key for windows 7 (found under the battery) definitely work a second time around?

Answer:Windows 7 reinstallation - ThinkPad Edge E430

Hi Cosmos29,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

We understood that your query is about reinstalling the Windows 7 OS on ThinkPad Edge E430.
When your computer is working normally, press the blue ThinkVantage button to launch the SimpleTap Program (for Windows 7) or the ThinkVantage Productivity Center program (for Windows XP and WindowsVista).

Note:
Depending on the date when your computer was manufactured, your computer might have the
Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox program preinstalled instead of the Simple Tap program or the ThinkVantage Productivity Centre program.

You also can use the ThinkVantage button to interrupt the start-up sequence of your computer and start the Rescue and Recovery workspace, which runs independently of the Windows operating system and is hidden from it. If the Windows operating system is not running properly, the Rescue and Recovery workspace can help you do the following:

? Get the current system information.
? Rescue a file from your Windows environment or restore back-up files, provided you have made backups
by use of the Rescue and Recovery program.
? Configure your computer or start the ThinkPad Setup.
To access the Rescue and Recovery workspace, turn on the computer; then, while the ?To interrupt normal start-up, press the blue ThinkVantage button? message is displayed at the lower-left of the screen, press the ThinkVantage button. The Rescue and Recovery screen opens. For additional information, see ?Us... Read more

Hi,I am looking to buy a lenovo laptop with the intention of using it mostly for word/excel applications, internet browsing and skype, and basic multimedia tasks (online video streaming, movies). The laptop's emissions (noise/heat) are key for me and by looking online, the E335 version seemed to be praised for its very low emissions and its low price. The only drawback is that it has the AMD E2 2000 processor, which performs much lower than its intel i3 counterparts.I wanted to check for your experience with the emissions of the E335, and whether the weaker processor would play a role in the performance of the laptop for the basic tasks intended. Also, I wanted to ask whether choosing the E430 version with intel i3 and would result in any drawbacks in terms of emissions. Thanks!loukianos

Answer:Choice between ThinkPad Edge E335 and E430

Hello. This is all a matter of budget and taste, plain and simple. In my experience, the AMD mobile APU's simply aren'ton par with the performance of the Core-i processors, and even when running the same clock speed as theirIntel counterparts, they run hotter, sometimes much hotter. They are a budget option though, and as such I guessthey will do their job adequately. Here is a comparison for the AMD E2-2000 vs the Intel i3-3110M Ivy Bridge. AMD E2-2000 vs Intel Core i3-3110M The difference is vast when it comes to available features and performance, but the AMD uses much less power, but that will be very apparent in its performance and will be a huge factor in how long the machine will last for youbefore you need to update it. My 2 cents is always go with the Intel Core-i option. They are very energy efficient, specially since the Ivy Bridgearchitecture was introduced, and the smallest i3's really are a powerful option for a day-to-day machine. And themachines that come with them aren't so much more expensive than the AMD powered machines. Lastly, have you checked out the new E440 models? The Haswell line of Intel CPU's is much more energy efficientthan the earlier Ivy Bridge models. ThinkPad E440 Laptop Cheers!

Or this software  just doesn't function correctly on my computer, and if it does is malfunctioned, what I'm I supposed to do to fix it? Thank you...

Oh,and here is another thing that I noticed. A couple of days ago, I deleted the hibernation partition on my SSD drive because it takes up 8gb of storage, and seldom do I use hibernation. But I noticed that after I deleted the partition, my computer's boot up time seems to be slower than before, does that partition has some thing to do with boot up time?

Device is recognized but not shown as drive, so I've no access to them.I've read some articles, that Win 8 should have native support for USB 3.0 so am I missing something? And should this be somehow connected with my internal card reader not working? Hello to all, new one here to the forum. Well, title says it all... At first I think it was a problem with the way Linux suspends the machine, but now I realize it happens too when I suspend from Windows (I have dual boot with Windows 7 and Linux Mint 17 actually). It started making it sometimes, not always, but now always happens: I suspend, close the lid and put the notebook on my bag. Hours or even minutes later, when I want to use it again and open the lid, its shuts off right at that very moment. If I suspend and 2 minutes later resume with the notebook still on the table, everything goes fine... so I suspect it may be a time thing or bad contact with the battery, but really don't know. I'm reticent to bring it to tech service because of several reasons, so I want to share this and hope to hear if someone had the same problem and how fixed it, if it can be fixed. Oh, and sorry for my perhaps strange english, I'm argentinian.

Hi, I recently bought a 300Mbps Wireless N Router (TP-Link TL-WR841ND), but I only get 72 Mbps speed on my Thinkpad E430 laptop. As far as I read, the 1x1 11b/g/n Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter only supports speeds up to 150 Mbps (which would still be ok with me), but instead I get 72 Mbps. I tried to tweak the adapter and router settings, but I had no luck. Do I need to change the Wireless adapter? Is it possible to change it, or should I use an external USB Wireless adapter instead? Thank you!

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E430 Wireless speed only 72Mbps

Hi Tudorc,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I would suggest you to check if any other similar device is able to achieve better speeds.

Log to the router's configuration utility by typing its IP address into a browser and change the encryption settings to WPA2 Encryption Only. Choose 40MHz-wide channels in the router?s configuration utility.

Since you are using a 1x1 single-stream card, so a max of 150Mbps is theoretically said to achieve. In addition, you are only on the 2.4GHz band, which is often congested, so you may see lower speeds. The disparity between theoretical and practical Wi-Fi performance comes from network protocol overhead, radio interference, physical obstructions on the line of sight between devices, and distance between devices. Under ideal conditions, actual results for a wireless adapter rated at 150Mbps is perhaps in the range of 50-80Mbps.

Hope this provided enough clarity for your query!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hi, I recently bought some Thinkpad EDGE E430 and E530 for my company. But one of them, at the first boot, instead of showing the first time Windows setup wizard it booted to Windows login with an already defined user named 'obe' and it ask for a password. I can't enter to Windows. I have tried to make 'factory settings' for resintalling Windows but the System Recovery Options always ask me for the password of 'obe' user. I called Lenovo support and the agent told me to use another E430 to produce a recovery DVD, so I made it (because I bought more E430 in the same order), but is the same, always asking for the password. Please see the picture. I need to give the laptop to one of my employees, he is goint to travel this next weekend and he need to take this laptop to the trip.

Answer:New Thinkpad Edge E430 came with a Windows user and cannot login (who is 'obe' ???)

welcome to the community. press F1 when the first splash screen appears to get into bios. make sure that the cd/dvd drive is listed first in the boot order (or usb cd/dvd, if your machine doesn't have an internal). then put the recovery dvd in the drive and reboot the machine. it should load the recovery process from the dvd, rather than any hdd partition, and allow you to recover/reimage the machine. please post back if this doesn't work or if you have further ?s. cheers.

What is the benefit of a 16 GB Micro Solid State Drive, Serial ATA3 besides the regular HD..?

Answer:ThinkPad Edge E430 with Micro Hard Drive..?

the 16 gigs mSATA will be used as a large cache for the regular HD, much like what Intel Turbo memory was, but it will have better algorithms applied to predict usage pattern.

Hi!I recently upgraded my ThinkPad Edge E430 OS from Windows 7 to Windows 8 using Lenovo's recovery Discs. Now on USB 3.0 ports I am getting USB 2.0 transfer speed of around 30 MBps. Device manager shows that there is Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller driver installed. Still I am getting USB 2.0 data transfer rate on USB 3.0 ports with USB 3.0 hard drives and pen drives. Can you give suggestions about how can I get USB 3.0 data transfer speed back?

The recent BIOS update (version 2.54) which has been released to fix fan issues with the system, does not have a corresponding Bootable CD available. I need to upgrade my computer's BIOS but doing that from a Windows partition is not possible as I do not use that OS. The update download page (http://support.lenovo.com/en_IN/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS033264&rss=true#) links to an older version BIOS Bootable disk update. Is there a way through with I can obtain a Bootable version of the flashing utility. Maybe there is a tool to create Bootable CD via the windows executable?

Ivy Bridge CPU in the E430 supports SATAIII (6 Gb/s) for the main hdd and optical drive bay. The height of the E430 hdd bay is suitable for 7 and 9.5 mm (not sure what that equates to in inches).

I believe you are using the ThinkPad 11b/g/n 1x1 WiFi card. Have you tried using the System Update Tool? This typically will instal the drivers that match your system. Hope this helps.

As an alternative there is also this driver, that may work in the even that the one from Broadcom does not.

I bought a Sony SRS-X7 Blutooth speaker to get rid of the cables. The device works perfectly with several other devices: iphone, blackberry, an Asus tablet, but i havn't been able to make it work with my laptop.I was able to add the device. Was founded and recogniced by the laptop, but when almost finishing the process appears a message "Configuring bluetooth services" and stays there. I've tried to wait, even from one day to another, and the message remains there. After forcing to close this message window, the speakers figure between the bluetooth devices, but when trying to connect an "error establishing connection" message appears.I've tried to install the other driver available on the support site (an intel, this one is a Broadcom) with no results.Appreciate your help, as i'm seriusly thinking (don't want to) on replace the laptop. Best regards.

I've had this Thinkpad Edge E430 since 2012 and have loved it, but recently I've been having a problem with it. In order to start it up I have to start it at least twice, and now it seems that the AC adapter must be plugged in for it to start. What will happen the first time or when it's just running on the battery is that the red indicator light will turn on, and I will hear the fan and the harddrive start up, but the screen will remain black and the computer will not respond to anything. When I have it plugged in and try the second time, it will start up no problem, and there doesn't seem to be any response issues once the laptop is up and running. I thought it might be a battery problem, but it has the same start up issues when I took out the batter and just had the AC adapter plugged in. Any ideas what this might be?

hi there! model in question is 303523G (with preinstalled w7hp 64bit). i guess that it comes with 0.3mp silicon motion integrated web cam (judging by the original driver which was preinstalled - 5.50.3.8). that driver was crashing skype during video calls (and other symptom was that when in skype settings from time to time it couldn't access camera and informed me that some other program is possibly using camera even though that other program is skype itself), so i uninstalled it (from device manager not form programs and features) and let windows use generic driver and with it everything works fine. then i installed driver form lenovo (http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/8oc103ww.exe) just to verify things. with it installed skype was crashing again. so, i uninstalled it again, and with generic driver everything works fine again. but, when i looked in programs and features, there is silicon motion integrated camera on the list with date when i first started system and finished inital installation of preinstaled windows. when i tried to uninstall it from there i'm getting message that smremove37.exe can't be accessed or something like that (i'll post exact message and file name later when i come home), then uninstall procedure removes generic driver for integrated camera and device itself is temporarily removed from device manger. after restart windows installs generic driver and everything works fine as expected and there is stil s... Answer:edge e125-problems with integrated camera driver

well it seems that something went wrong with one of the uninstalls of silicon motion drivers, so according to microsoft clean up utility it was uninstalled, but it remained in list on programs and features and folder with files wasn't deleted. so manual removal both from registry and hdd did help. also i've installed driver from lenovo again with no problems, but it still crashes skype during video calls and that oddity that skype informs me that some other program is possibly using camera and it should be closed even though that other program is skype itself. so, i've uninstalled it (this time with no problems) and i'm using generic driver for integrated camera and everything works fine. i hope that this will be helpful to someone with the same or similar problem.

Good day and welcome to the community.

Out of curiosity, if you go through the the steps again of uninstalling the camera driver and reinstalling the W8.1 driver, does the camera work again, even for a day? If so, maybe Windows Update is seeing the 8.1 driver and auto-installing a non-working driver over top of the 8.1 driver.

Hi, I got a ThinkPad E460 running Windows10 Pro.  The integrated camera was working before but when I tried to use Skype for the first time in a few months this morning, video didn't show.  Then I ran the Camera app in Win10 and it gave me the error code 0xA00F4271(0x80070005) even though it was shown as "working" in Device Manager.  The camera still doesn't work after deleting it in Device Manager and letting Win10 reinstall by itself, updating the camera driver, checking the privacy settings, etc.  I don't know if this is related or not, but the integrated mic was missing in Device Manager before I found out that the camera was not working.  I updated the audio driver and the mic started working again. Is there anything else that I can do to fix the camera?  Thanks in advance!

Answer:ThinkPad E460 integrated camera is not working

Some AV Security software, such as Kapersky AV, will sometimes block the camera access, so check to see if yours has such a feature. Other thing to try is to completely remove the existing camera driver to see if it has become corrupted.   In windows, just uninstalling and reinstalling will not install a clean copy, unless you make sure to check the box during the uninstall to "Delete the driver software for this device".    If left unchecked, it will just reuse the existing driver, and if already the latest version, attempts to reinstall the same driver again will not always replace all files since they already exist. Also make sure to install all of the latest Chipset drivers, or better yet, run the Lenovo's ThinkVantage System Update (TVSU) and update all of the drivers to the latest version.      Sometimes it seems to find updates that fix issues that manually updating misses.. I would hold of on any BIOS updates except as a last resort, however, since they sometimes go bad, and when they do, they go really bad and can leave your system bricked.. ThinkVantage System Update (TVSU)https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht080136 Good Luck,

I have a new X200 that I bought used.  The old owner installed a clean copy of XP, this was not a downgrade from the Vista Business that is available.  Rather, it was a clean new copy he had.  I installed the drivers off the Lenovo website required for camera usage, however I cannot see the camera in the device manager and when I tried simply to hook it up through Skype it was not detected.  Anybody have any suggestions on how to get this camera up and running properly on XP?  Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks.

I've read most, if not all of the other post on this topic, tried bios update, winupdates - XP SP2 all current, tried the Dell driver mentioned, the IBM driver and went to Sonix website and got their driver. NOTHING WORKS. Does anyone have any other ideas? I'm not pay $69 for lenovo live support, instead of that, I'll just go buy a usb webcam. thanks in advance for your consideration.

I have a brand new T530 running Windows 8 and the integrated camera will not work straight from the factory.  I'd like to think this would have been tested from the factory; what should I be looking for?

Answer:Thinkpad T530 Integrated Camera does not work

It might be the privacy settings preventing the cam. You could check this in Skype. or the Lenovo Settings app, providing you are using Windows 8.

Two months ago, I purchased a ThinkPad 13, preloaded with Windows 7 Professional, for my son to use in college. We have weekly Skype problems, and we haven't been able to use the integrated webcam on the Thinkpad for our sessions.  We can see and hear him, using a smartphone at our end, but he can only hear us, not see us.  I have found scattered references to Lenovo integrated camera issues with Skype, but nothing that specifically addresses a Thinkpad 13 webcam, Windows 7 Professional, and Skype.  What can we do to resolve this issue?

I would really appreciate it as its getting frustrating. Thanks everyone. Donal

Hello Lenova Group,I have had bought a new Lenova L420 running in 32 bit Windows Home Edition.I can see an integrated webcamera for this.I've looked everywhere and was only able to turn it on by downloading Skype. I don't want to use Skype. I just want to turn it on.In other words - I need to switch on the camera without any applications(skype) ON.Is it possible.I have tried with the shortcuts like Fn+ESC and Fn+F6,F5 etc..Even I have checked in start menu with the keyword "Cam, webcam, etc.."Is there something like any hardware driver or software missing?Get me back and I'm new to this forum too ThanksHaan

Answer:Thinkpad L420 Integrated Camera no longer works

Hi, hjaffer2001

I do not belive that there is a way to turn the camera on without any programs to assist it. If the camera is on, but there is not a program active helping it, then it would be somewhat useless. However, I believe I may have found something that should work for you. Lenovo makes a program called ThinkVantage Communications Utility. This utility will allow you to activate your integrated camera and make clips and take snapshots if you would like. When this application is running, then the camera will stay on, so it should accomplish what you are looking for.

Best of luck,
Adam

Hi, all My OS is windows 2008 R2. Initially when I install the OS on my T530, the driver from the lenovo site did not work. So I downloaded the driver from Ricoh with version "Integrated Camera Driver Installer Package Ver.1.2.1.18". I got it working for a few months. But all of a sudden, it does not work anymore and I don't know what exactly caused it. I noticed that the integrated camera is not listed in the device manager anymore. All I can see is that a device under the USB controller is having a "!" sign. I have reinstalled the richoh driver and the ThinkVintage communication device driver. Still no working. Please help. Please help.Thanks,Jonathan.

Hello, I own an E 530 and in the beginning I didnt have any problems with the integrated camera. Then it stopped working once, I worked my way through here and other explanations and the download of a new driver solved the problem. Today the camera stopped working again, I 'updated' the driver, I tried to check all the settings but they seemed normal to me. What I do not find on my laptop is the web-conference configuartion everyone is talking about... So I sit with this problem and since I am not that much into specific laptop-technology easy understandable answers are very welcome My laptoptopsettings are in german, so i will try to find my way through it with english explanations  Thank you!!

Hi all, The integrated camera on my Thinkpad S230 isn't working. The camera app displays the camera with a slash through it. It will still take photos, but the photo is only the camera with slash error. The video camera works with Skype, but has the same error. I tried updating the drivers, but that hasn't worked. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Thinkpad S230 Integrated Camera no longer works

I suffered same problem and spent several hours.Don't touch the driver, but just touch Lenovo's own setting app.Go to Search - Lenovo Settings - Enable Camera iconNow you may see your shots.Possible privacy protection but confusing.

I had recently reinstalled everything on my thinkpad T40 using the Factory CDs and I realized that I do not have any of the programs from ThinkVantage or any of the default Thinkpad features.  I was wondering where I could get the Thinkpad Display theme (has the custom My Computer, Recycle Bin Icons) EnergyStar power management (I tried installing the driver, but nothing happened) Integrated Camera Driver (I used the driver on the Support page and I nothing happened) Thanks!

Hi, I bought my ThinkPad T530 laptop in August of this year and about a month ago I used the Lenovo ThinkVantage updater and it updated the driver for my web cam. Ever since then it has stopped working.Whenever I open the web conferencing menu, it only shows options for the microphone, and nothing for the camera. I have tried hitting Fn+F6 and accessing it via other software e.g. Skype, Oovoo, Picasa. And they say that my webcam cannot be detected. When I checked for the webcam in device manager  it said it was installed and working properly, and that the driver was up to date. I went to the lenovo website and downloaded the driver for the camera from there (g1ca16ww) and tried to update the driver manually hoping that that would fix the problem. Alas, it did not. I also checked the BIOS settings to make sure that the camera was enabled. It was. So then I tried to reinstall the driver by uninstalling it, and using the driver I downloaded from the Lenovo website to reinstall. It installed properly, but now the webcam is no longer listed in the hardware manager and the dropdown for Imaging Devices, where it was located before, is no longer visible. I also rechecked the BIOS menu to make sure the camera was still listed there and it is. I do not know why it isn't working. Does anyone know how to fix it? I have also tried system restore and that didn't work either, the device still isn't listed. I don't want to have to wipe my computer. Please help.

Hi guys, I got my Thinkpad T540 several month ago and found the integrated camera did not work and I brought to a warranty center. They came up with a cause of virus instead of hardware problem, even if they stated they changed a new camera for me. After that in a couple of weeks, the camera seems to be ok, at least I used it for twice. However, recently, it stopped working again. I have no idea what's going on. It should not be a virus, as I installed anti-virus software and firewall and scanned my computer but nothing warnned. Dose anyone have solution?

Here is what I did to fix this for my machine.  I had the same symptoms. Install most current "lenovo settings" software After install you need to reboot your machine: After reboot please open Lenovo settings:Then click on Camera: Next click on "NORMAL"  *NOTE: BY DEFAULT SOMETHING SETS THE CAMERA TO PRIVATE.   Once I clicked on "NORMAL" the camera started working. Please let me know if this helps. Thanks  Signed:  Frustrated no more!!

Hi. I can't get the webcam to work. I got this laptop around mid June of this year. Tried to use the webcam for the first time today, Nothing. My device manager doesn't even list a camera. I tried to intall the driver (twice) to see if that would help, but as far as I can see, it's had exactly 0 effect. I downloaded the lenovo settings app, and it's not there, either. At least, I see no setting options for it. But this model of laptop supposedly has a webcam built in, and my model looks pretty much exactly like the others I see on google images, except for a circly light thing in the strip where the camera is supposed to be. I have no idea what the hardware/wiring should even look like so I can't help there. I've been at this for hours. At this point I would just buy a webcam off Amazon or something if I could be sure that the laptop would actually register it.

Hello everyone, my problem is: my integrated camera doesn't function. I tried to install the driver, but if i start to install the driver, it never show up, that it will start to install, only that it unpacked it and after that it vanished. so i searched in my device manager, but my camera isnt shown. after hours of searching in the internet, i tried all possibilitys. 1. i tried to look, if the cable of the monitor/camera is really connected to the mainboard (my varanty is already over since 1 year) 2. i looked in my bios: the camera is enabled 3. i tried that esc+fn or other possible key-combinations to activate the camera 4. i also called the support and they told me, that i have to go to a service center, so they could maybe take a look on it, but since the varanty is not there anymore, i will have to pay. i cant remember when the last time was, that i could use my camera. but at that time it functions without problems.my system is: win 7 ultimate, 64bit i hope, you can help me.(and sorry for my bad english)best regards!
