E545 keyboard problem - many keys not working - loose keyboard cable

Question: E545 keyboard problem - many keys not working - loose keyboard cable

I recently (w/in last 2 weeks) purchased and received an E545 and after less than 8 hours of use the keyboard is extremely loose on the right hand side, primarily where the number pad sits but also extend into the right side of the alpha keyboard. By losse, I mean that it doesn't sit well and when you press down on a key in that area of the keyboard, the entire right side of keyboard depresses. ti's very disconcerting when typing and also extremely loud, which is an issue since I use the machine in meetings to take notes.

I've not seen much in searching, except for threads that are several years old. I wanted to get some user input before contacting Lenovo, as I'm sure it will be better advice and less of a hassle.

Many thanks in advance for any help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: E545 keyboard problem - many keys not working - loose keyboard cable

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that the entire keyboard of your Lenovo ThinkPad E545 depresses on key presses.

From what you have posted, it sounds like a keyboard flex. Keyboard flexing occurs if the board supporting the keys is not rigid or if the design of the keyboard is faulty. For good keyboards, the effect shouldn't be noticeable.

If you feel excessive flexing in your keyboard, try to reseat the keyboard. Since your system is under warranty, I would strongly suggest you to take assistance from Lenovo technical support.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

Best Regards,
Mithun.

I had a problem with my laptop which is certain key on my keyboard is not functioning. The weird is, it happened without a reason. because after I shutdown doing my work when I turn it on again, I discovered my "s", "d", "g", "h", "\", "m", " left shift", "caps lock" and "~" key did not work at all. I try taking the key off, cleaning underneath, but nothing seems to be working. After that I try to use usb keyboard and it seems the key can be entered. So I thought my hardware is the problem. than I replace into the new one, but still having the same problem. I already waste my money buying new keyboard. Does any one happen to know what sort of problem this is and how I would go about fixing it? Is it related to the registry. My laptop is Acer aspire 4740G, ram 4GB, processor i3 2.4GHz. I hope someone can help me to solve this problem.

As I wrote in the title, my Shift and Alt keys stopped working for keyboard shortcuts. However, the Shift key still works when capitalizing letters.

I've been dealing with this problem off/on for the past two weeks and haven't been able to figure it out. I've gone into Ease of Access features and turned on/off all of the available options (Mouse Keys, Sticky Keys, Toggle Keys, Filter Keys). I've pressed Shift for 8 seconds, and pressed it 5 times, and still haven't been able to correct it.

Thank you in advance for any help offered.

Possibly helpful additional information:
I've got a Spanish/Latin American keyboard layout installed in addition to the US English keyboard layout. I toggle back and forth with Left Alt + Shift (which is how I noticed my Shift key stopped working).
I play a game whose controls rely on a lot of Shift key pressing and holding.

Answer:Keyboard - Shift & Alt keys stopped working for keyboard shortcuts

When was the last time you used a can of air cleaner on the keyboard? If it isn't from contact wear often keyboards tend to get loaded up with dust and debris!

One example of that is having any snacks onhand around a pc where little bits get passed along from your fingers onto and under the keys themselves. Keyboards are known to get loaded up fast with any foods present!

Hi guys, Something really strange started happening two days ago. Out of the blue the following keys stopped working: GHBackspaceWindows [email protected]' The laptop is a couple of years old and a bit dusty, so I took it to the local shop to get the keyboard replaced and cleaned. Seemed to be working fine when I left the shop. Then, a little while ago the space key and P stopped. Five minutes later they started working again but ctrl stopped and N is temperamental. I haven't spilt anything on it or knocked it. Any ideas what's going on?

I have a Dell 7737 laptop and from time to time it develops a firmware glitch where random keys stop working for both BIOS Setup and Operating Systems. After such thing happens neither shutdown (Full shutdown / Fast Boot disabled) nor restart get the keyboard back to a normal state. At this point the only workarround is to disconnect the AC power cord and then either drain the battery or physically remove it.
This laptop's battery cover is not designed for daily removal and it is starting to get loose because of this BIOS bug.
I am running BIOS version A14 but this bug was present since I purchased the laptop with BIOS version A07. Sometimes I cannot even type my password because the random keys that stop working match those it uses.
Please Dell could you provide a BIOS hotfix for this annoying issue?

Hello. I have came here, just to notice S10 users with same problem, to help solve it.If you apply brute force to keyboard with 4 fingers, and slide them along all 4 button rows in opened notepad, I see that some letters shows, but most of them, if you just push same button, does not show any reaction. This can happen after laptop fells on ground or gets any shock on chassis. The reason for not working keyboard, can be cable problem. I'm having problem with my keyboard for a week now.

Here are the keys that just suddenly stopped working, as far as I know:

The upper number pad, except 5 and 6 [including '+/=']
Home, End, Page Down, Print Screen, and Enter on the numpad.

At least these are the ones I know of.

Please help.

Answer:Solved: Keyboard problem - Some keys not working

The simplest thing to do would be get a new keyboard, they are cheap and widely available. I am not sure whether a keyboard could be fixed, but it wouldn't be worth it unless it was expensive, as it would cost more to have it fixed than to buy yourself a new one.

For the 4th time, the W540 keyboard has about 7 of its keys stop working. The seven keys are usually on the right hand side and in a group, but could be in any row, and within 1 or 2 columns of each other. Pressing the key does nothing, not even the click in click mode. I am convinced this is not a software problem as I have tried all possible software remedies. I am sure it is due to the keyboard or connection itself. The Shift or Ctrl does not work for these keys either. First time this happened after a year of use, I lost 'P' and '0' among others, and I had to replace the keyboard. A year later on the new keyboard it happened again, but came back after two days. 3rd time was four months later, and I have lost '-', '=', '5', '6', delete, and others. I remapped these. Then again now I lost another bunch including '\', backspace, enter, and others. The original keyboard is a backlit keyboard FRU 04Y2387, ID# 48L16M, Parts # 0C44952, Model # KM BL-105US . Hello,
This morning I was using my mum's notebook when several keys stopped working (O, W, R, T, U, ', C, V & BACKSPACE).
Although some keys work, they also jam when not being pressed (D & N). I have to hit another key to stop it and when I've not clicked a text box it makes the mouse freeze. I tried restarting and a Windows Diagnostic Memory Test was presented as an option upon start-up which I did, nothing was detected. Device manager shows the driver is working. I've tried cleaning. Help please. I am currently using On-Screen Keyboard.

Answer:Packard Bell notebook keyboard problem - certain keys not working.

Can you plug in an external keyboard? If an external keyboard works fine then it would indicate the laptop's keyboard is having a problem. Try searching ebay for a keyboard for it (make sure it's for the correct model). Laptop keyboards are extremely easy to replace.

Front arrow key only works if it's the only key pressed on my entire keyboard at that moment. This creates a lot of problems in games i play. Like in car driving games, i cant accelerate and turn my car at same time (i have front key = acceleration key). If i press one of the "turn" key first, then i cant accelerate while turning. I have both, XP and Vista installed (dual boot), and this problem is present in each of them. I removed the front button off, cleaned it, including the actuators, but no good. :a
I'll like to try every thing possible before buying a new Keyboard.

Any idea?

Answer:Keyboard Problem: Front arrow key not working in combination with other keys

Only suggestion I can think of is to re assign the control keys to WASD or whatever you prefer. Sounds like th ekboard is having a hissy fit, and a new one is the only other option.

thinkpad keyboard problem - some keys generate multiple keys when pressed For example, "t" generates "tr", "y" generates "yu", "backspace" generates "backspace" plus "IBM access connections", "m" generates "mn" and "n" generates "mn".  Not all keys are wrong.  For what it's worth, the odd behaviour started shortly after a trip to Miami in which I had a meeting at a cafe in which we were undercover but it was pouring cats and dogs - it was like having a meeting in a sauna - so I am wondering if the high humidity could have caused the behaviour. I tried replacing the keyboard but the new keyboard has the same problem.   The machine in question is a Thinkpad T23 running Windows XP Pro Any help would be appreciated as I am now in Los Angeles using a borrowed Mac! :-)

Answer:Keyboard keys not working

Try using the Windows on-screen keyboard. If you are seeing a space where your spacebar should be in the on-screen keyboard, then you'll need to change your keyboard layout back to US QWERTY (or whatever layout you type on.)

If the OSK looks fine, then check this page for help. If you've attached an external keyboard to your laptop in the past, refer to the first post. If not, you can try to attempt the second post.

Answer:keyboard some keys not working

Hi nirmit1105,
Check if the keys are stuck on keyboard. Another step you can try is to check the keyboard functionality in safe mode and see if it exhibits the same behavior there as well.

Restart the computer.
Tap the F8 key on the keyboard during the boot process until you see the Windows Advanced Options Menu on the screen.
Select “Safe Mode with Networking” from the menu using the arrow keys on the keyboard and then press the <Enter> key.
Select the user account at the log in screen.
Try using your computer and see if the issue persists there.

In case of keyboard, you may also try using a USB keyboard and see if it works. If issue persists, remove the USB keyboard and use an Onscreen keyboard to see if the issue persists with that as well.

To use On screen keyboard:

Choose Start/Windows logo → Control Panel → Ease of Access → Ease of Access Center.
Click the Start On-Screen Keyboard button.
Test out the on-screen keyboard input in any application where you can enter text.
Click Options, select the Turn on numeric key pad check box, and then click OK.
Open a notepad and try typing on that by clicking on the keys of On screen keyboard.

Note: To use keystroke combinations (such as Ctrl+Z), click the first key (in this case, Ctrl) and then click the second key (Z). You don’t have to hold down the first key as you do with a regular keyboard.

Hi,

You have two options: stop using the USB keyboard with the Win 10 computer or roll back to the former OS and wait a few more months to try Win 10 and see if it has better drivers.

Welcome chinwoman to the windows 7 forums.

Based on your trouble shooting so far, it looks like your notebook keyboard is toast.

there could be a single wire from your keyboard that has a loose connection or broken off.
My recommendation is to get it replaced. If your technically inclined, most laptops keyboards can be removed and the flat ribbon connection can be cleaned. I would try that if your comfortable with removing your keyboard, other than that, it looks like your going to have to take it to a repair shop which most likely will do the same thing, or replace it.

Hi, Recently I am unable to insert the exclamation mark (SHIFT+1) on any programs. I know there is no problem with any keys as the shift button works and also the number 1 button works. But when I press these two keys in combination I get nothing (just tried putting an exclamation mark here to no avail).  This problem happened with my dad's HP Win 10 laptop as well. Suddenly most (nearly half of his keys) stopped working and he has been using an external keyboard for 2 months (once again tried putting an exclamation mark here to no avail).  Really dissapointed as it clearly seems to be a HP problem after it happening to both my and my dad's HP laptops only. Can someone shed some light on this problem please. Thank you.

Hi, I have a lenovo thinkpad T440. My left, down, right, pgdn, ? keys will stop working intermittently throughout the day. It will work for hours and then stop working for hours. There seems to be no pattern or reason. It is always the same 5 keys and all the others always work fine. This also happens in BIOS and safe mode, so I don't think it is an application. Any thoughts?

Answer:Keys / Keyboard not working

Hi Cclaflin,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are issue with keyboard keys on your ThinkPad T440.

Check if any foreign partials stuck under keyboard. Use vacuum cleaner and blow the air with medium pressure, while performing this make sure that system is shutdown and remove the AC power adapter from the system.

If the issue still persists after that also then it could be a hardware related issue.

Hope this helps.

I have a Dell Inspiron 11 3000 series 2 in 1 laptop and recently (within the past few days), some of the keys on my keyboard are not working when I start up the laptop. After my laptop has been on for a few minutes, they seem to work fine but they still randomly stop working for a few seconds at a time. For instance, they are working just fine right now. The keys that do this are all close together on the keyboard (which I feel like that has something to do with it) and are listed below.
p 0 - [ ; '
I should also point out that the keys are not broken or loose. I'm only guessing that this is a hardware problem and that it can be fixed if I have tools or something, but I'm not a tech wizard, so I don't know for sure.
Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

Hi there.

Im using a saitek eclipse 2 keyboard and recently ive noticed that the following keys are no longer functioning: f8, f9, f10, f11, f12 and the print screen key. all other keys work fine as you can probably tell. i have no idea why this is happening. there are no drivers to install even on the saitek website because its a plug and play keyboard. This is really frustrating because i use those keys quite often in games.
My specs are:

I have a friend :D that has a problem with certain keyboard keys not working. Such as;

The numbers across the top of the keys - 1,2,3,4,8,9,0.
If he holds down the shift key, still nothing on those numbers.
Various random letters also not working.

Swaps out keyboards, tries a couple others, no change.

This has happened to him before. They only solution in the past was to reformat. System restore doesn't fix it either...

Any suggestions? Ideas?

Hello,I own HP Pavilion dv6000 notebook and I've noticed recently that some keys on my keyboard stopped working.I found  picture of the exact same keyboard via google and marked those keys. I just want to add that there was no water spilled on the keyboard  nor any other external influence. So I'm wondering what is the reason for this situation and if there are some possible solutions. Thanks in advance.[regaining space - attachment deleted by admin]

Answer:Some keys on keyboard not working.

Possibly the ribbon cable joining the keyboard to the notebook's motherboard has got a crack or become damaged, or maybe some debris, food, etc has got in there. If the cable has become damaged you will need a new keyboard which costs around $30

I have an unusual issue that I know others have had as well.  MySHIFT, Z, X, C, V, M, SPACE BAR, and COMMA keys do not work.  I've tried everything short of replacing the motherboard. I upgraded to the most recent BIOS (F.46).  Took the battery out and held down the power button for over a minute.  Plugged the AC adapter in as the computer first boots, performed a Factory Reset, replaced the Hard Drive.  Uninstalled and re-installed keyboard drivers.  I even replaced the keyboard with a new one only to have the same exact keys not work.  This seems to me as if it's a Firmware issue or a faulty motherboard that we the consumer shouldn't have to pay for to fix.  HP should have some sort of recall or something as I've read numerous posts of this same issue. Has anyone found a fix for this or had any luck with HP Support when their laptop is no longer under warranty?

First of all, I want to say that I am no wiz with computers.Laptop: Lenovo Yoga 2 11. Windows 10 installed about 5 months ago.h and g keys, as well as ctrl c and v for copy and paste, and underscore key do not work at all using my keyboard. Onscreen keyboard works, allowing me to write h and g now: very annoying and time consuming! I've restarted, tried typing in safe mode, keys still did not work, turned on and off sticky keys, did not make a difference. I've tried shortcut keys, nothing worked not even temporarily. I did not do system restore because it said I would have to reinstall a lot of programs including microsoft word, and I just paid over 100 dollars for it and I am confused by what would happen? Cleaned keyboard, no dirt or anything stuck under keys. I am pretty upset, just applying to jobs, and writing resumes/cover letters is hard. If anyone can help I would appreciate it so much. I've done research online and it seems I'm definitely not the only one with this problem. Can't seem to fix it. Help please!Tara.

This might be reposted in hardware forum...

I have a fairly specific computing environment (as we all do), and an issue...
The issue is with a PC (details below) and a keyboard, and possibly some other hardware....

First the symptoms seems like the 5, 6 -, and = keys are not working; nothing happens when they are pressed. This goes for those keys SHIFTed. Also, CNTL+ALT+DEL doesn't bring up the task manager, and CTRL+V doesn't paste. I think that's all but IDK how to exhaustively test a keyboard.
The keyboard is a Microsoft Wireless 700 v2.0 with associated USB receiver and wireless optical mouse. The mouse, receiver and most of the keyboard work ok it seems. It was acquired 'used' because I don't need the extra wires.

The wired PS/2 mouse and every wired keyboard have worked ok.

Sometimes, I have read, this is a software fault (reference available), but I am very conscious of it might be an electromechanical fault with the keyboard. How can I tell ? I do not want to take the keyboard if I can possibly avoid it. I did that once to another keyboard and it's still in pieces :-o

Hi, this is my first post on these forums so I hope I am posting in the right area! After eight months of sitting in my closet infected with a virus, I finally took my Dell Inspiron 1525 to a computer repair store and had a new HD installed. It's working great and after being stuck with an Acer netbook during the Dell's hiatus, I'm happy as a clam. However, some of the keys on the keyboard are not working, and if I remember right, weren't working before the virus took the Dell out of commission. As far as I know, the keys that are not working are: Esc, Delete, and the down arrow key. The guy who fixed my laptop said he couldn't fix the keys, which I thought was kind of odd, as it seems like a pretty trivial task compared to saving all my data and installing a new HD, but then again I know nothing about repairing computers.Anyone have an idea of what might be causing just these keys to not work? I should say that about a year ago the laptop fell off my bed (oops) and I had to have the power jack repaired, but in all honesty I can't remember if the keys stopped working right after the fall or if it took a while.Obviously these keys aren't necessary for me to be able to use the laptop but would be handy to have them back so I don't always have to switch to the trackpad.I am running Windows Vista Home Basic.

If one look at the keyboard, these keys are just below each other, maybe giving a hint to someone who knows about keyboards what the problem might be. Hey guys,

(Damn, Only I know how am I writing this post. It's so damn frustrating.)

Ok well here goes:

I was using a ps2 keyboard for a while now. But suddenly, certain keys stopped working.

I restarted, uninstalled the keyboard but to no avail.

I had a brand new usb keyboard lying with me, so I thought it's finally time to use it. But the same problem persisted though this time a different combination of keys not working.

I tried both the keyboard on a friend's PC and they both work like charm.

Now, I thought may be I should try windows repair, but I realized that the keyboard keys aren't even functioning in BIOS.

It's really irritating. I am having a feeling that this problem is mobo related (hence posting in this section).

I am currently using both keyboards to write this post, but yet there are few keys which aren't working on both. (so I actually have to copy/paste 'em from character map).

This whole thing is ridiculously painful. So please help.

Looking forward.

Thanks in advance!

I am using XP 64bit and XP pro (dual boot). Problem shows on both.

My mobo: Abit Ip35 pro

Hi,

I have an old laptop which I haven't used for a while, but want to start using it. However, the '1' and 'q' keys have stopped working. It hasn't taken a knock and I have removed the two keys, which were on a hinge, and could see no visable reason why they may have stoppped e.g. dirt (nothing more technical than that). The two keys when compressed do feel identical to the others, no signs of anything suck in there. Does anyone have any ideas? And if this type of thing is fixable?

Thanks

Answer:2 keys not working on keyboard?

Keyboards seem to drive their keys in diagonal rows. IE:
1qaz
2wsx
3edc, etc.

Since your 2 keys are consecutive in a diagonal row, we get the connection. The most suggested things are physically cleaning the membrane under the keys, and keyboard drivers. I have never owned a laptop, so I'm not sure you can just delete the keyboard driver, and let windows redetect. Or, just remove, and install the currect driver. Hopefully someone with laptop experience will be along with more info. A Guy

All of a sudden, while iam composing an email on hotmail, certain keys of my desktop keyboard stopped working...i assumed that once i restart it the issue would be resolved. I was mistaken. I have restarted my desktop computer, unplugged the keyboard from the cpu and start my pc up again, however the same issues persists. Most keys are functioning on my keyboard, but certain keys give no response. My num pad is not working, and the num lock green light doesnt even light up when i push down on it. Now the problem is, i cant log into my desktop windows xp, mainly because my password contains a 7 in it. None of the keys work on the numpad, however a few numbers do work from the main keyboard component. I have no idea what to do. I tried pressing f8 to go into safe mood but nothing happens. Please help. Thank you

Sounds like it's time to buy a new keyboard! If you're determined to get this one to work you can try washing it with warm water, then let it sit for a couple days to dry out, and try it again, but if I were you I'd just eat the $10

Answer:Satellite Pro A10 - some keys not working with new keyboard

Hi

Why do you think that the motherboard is ok?
Maybe it?s a keyboard controller issue?
Did you check if the cable was connected properly?

In my opinion if you are 100% sure that the keyboard is ok then the issue must be related to the motherboard because there is no other part which is placed between the keyboard and mobo.

Yes, I know that this problem has been hashed around over and over. I have read countless posts but still no answer. Here's my problem:

The Multimedia keys stopped working one day. I can't seem to find out why. I am using a P4/w Intel 915GAG mobo, W2000+SP4 and MS Multimedia Keyboard (KB-0168 1.0a) that is wired. This is the same keyboard, computer and system as it came when new.

I have checked 1) The Uninstall window and it shows that IntelliType 2.2 is installed 2) The Adm Hardware page and it says that there is a 101/102 key or MS Natural keyboard installed and working ok 3) Hijack this in the Startup List shows that keyboard\type32.exe is started 4) If I go to the MS Keyboard icon on the desktop and use the Keys, Restore Default Settings the keys work again -- until the computer Sleeps or is Rebooted. The keys stop functioning again until I restore them again.

If you need any more information, just ask and I'll post it.

Thanks, Steve-x8086

Hi everyone. I know I have had this question posted here before and in the end I figured I would just get used to it. Wrong. It's pushing me past my usual point of insanity.

To refresh, a few weeks ago, I did a fresh install of W7 and since then 2 keys on my keyboard aren't working properly. One key, below the Esc button, I don't care about but the other is the apostrophe and quotations key. When I press this key, nothing happens until I hit the space bar, then it appears.

I have checked "Keyboard" in Control Panel, it says the keyboard is functioning properly. I tried updating driver and have the most up to date driver. I tried using the on screen keyboard and it has the same problem. I thought of doing another reinstall but that is no guarantee that the keys will be fixed and in fact may affect other keys for all I know.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, David

Answer:N5110 keyboard - some keys NOT working

Hi Delee40,
You may perform try below mentioned steps to further isolate if the issue is software related or with hardware. Check if you face the same issue while using the onscreen keyboard. Here are the steps to access onscreen keyboard:

Click Start→Control Panel→Ease of Access→Ease of Access Center.
Click the Start On-Screen Keyboard button. A keyboard appears, floating in the middle of your screen.
Test out the on-screen keyboard input in any application where you can enter text. Open Microsoft Word or a similar application and give it a go.
Click the Close button on the On-Screen Keyboard when you’re finished using it.

If the issue replicate with the onscreen keyboard then it is a error with any software or Windows. If not then you may try reseating the keyboard. Here is the service manual that you can refer to for installing the hardware components. Please follow the safety instructions.
If the keys are still not responding, you may consider replacing the keyboard.
Hope this helps. Please reply if you have any questions.

I discovered some (10 letters and symbols) keys stopped working a few days ago.I couldn't find the solution in Acer Community. It is not under warranty anymore. I hope I don't have to take it to a computer shop. I have read one instance with different model saying it was fixed by a small change in the software. Some help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:E5-511-P8BA some keyboard keys not working

Hi,You could try few things, check for any stuck keys, dust or any debris in between the keys, check that the Num Lock , Caps Lock keys are not activated. You could also try uninstalling the keyboard driver in Device manager and reboot to let Windows install the driver.

Can you help?

I have an acer aspire pc and have just got a new keyboard, an acer sk-9625 (came with a mouse also).

Anyway, when I plugged the keyboard in to my usb port it installed the drivers and said new hardware was found etc etc and the media keys (email, web browser, volume wheel, mute etc) were working just fine.
Then, after shutting my pc down and restarting it they stopped working but the rest of the keyboard was working fine.
I unplugged the keyboard from the usb port it was in and plugged it into another one and the computer then said the same thing: installed the drivers and said new hardware was found and the media keys started working again
Then I shut down and restarted again and the same thing happened
So now its plugged into the 3rd usb port and they were working for a bit and I left my computer on but overnight updates were installed and its been restarted and now they are not working AGAIN!!

I've tried updating the drivers and they were ok, dudn't need to be updated.
I've googled the keyboard model and can't find anything.

I've been into control panel --> keyboards --> Hardware tab --> Properties and it says HID keyboard is working properly

What next?

Thanks

I have two pairs of volume shortcut keys on the keyboard. Suddenly both have stopped working. The only way I can adjust the volume is through the system tray. Any help?

These shortcuts are very useful while playing a game.

Answer:Keyboard volume keys not working

I wish I could help but the same thing happened to me and no matter what I did I couldn't get them working again. All the other buttons work but not the volume? Right? I ended up buying a new keyboard.

Hi, When I turned on my HP Envy 15t laptop yesterday several keys stopped working. They appear to be randomly placed around the keyboard: N, B, Caps lock, delete and a few others. I've tried several fixes that I have found on this forum but nothing has worked thus far. I now have an external keyboard hooked up and it works fine, but that kind of defeats the purpose of a laptop. Any other suggestions? I'm definitely at the point of accepting that it's probably a hardware issue and my keyboard is on the way out. If so anyone know what I need to buy for a replacement? My warranty expired last month, of course. Thanks for any help you can give me. Sol

I have just got a new Microsoft Multimedia Keyboard. Those keys at the top for My Documents, My Pictures, Mail. Web/Home etc: sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. They are correctly programmed as they sometimes work but mostly they don't. Anyone got any ideas as to why they are not working?

Thanks

I have a Logitech K200 keyboard. It's been quite a few years since I have been using it.

It had been working fine till a few days ago. Now random keys aren't working. Like F2, N, Alt, left & right arrow keys.

Particular problem is with the N key, for which I have to use the onscreen keyboard & it's quite annoying.

Sometimes, the keys work all of a sudden. Like, for the past 2-3 days, the keys started working. Since yesterday afternoon, they again stopped working :/.

What could be the cause? I uninstalled & reinstalled the drivers too.

Should I just buy a new keyboard?

Please help me because I have been trying for 3 hours now and want to cry haha. I used my laptop last night and the cat did walk over it, as she usually does so it may have been something she has done or just a coincidence this has happened.

I just went to use my laptop tonight and could not log in because I noticed that my A key was not working which is in my password so used the onscreen key board, I then discovered probably half of my other keys also are not working!!!

I have uninstalled the keyboard in the device manager and nothing, I have even installed Unbuntu to see if it would work in there as one person suggested. I have turned the laptop off, took the battery and power cable out, held the power button for 60 seconds, put it all back together and started it up, nothing.

I have stolen my boyfriends keyboard from his desktop PC and that is working fine. I just do not know what to try next if anything or if to just go ahead and back my stuff up and reinstall windows (using windows 10).

I do not understand why it is only some keys as surely if it was the actual keyboard then it all would not be working which is why I think it might be a windows thing maybe, but then why does the USB keyboard work fine.

Thanks for any help and let me know if you need anymore information

Daughter's Chromebook is about a year or so old and the keyboard has stopped working properly.  Some keys work, others don't. Type the letter K and get Ki, type the letter s and get sxw, type the letter T and get nothing, and so forth. Tried the Refresh+Power thing but that failed to work. At one point thje keyboard began operating without being touched (!) which suggests a stuck button but couldn't tell which. We're wide open to suggestions.

Hi folks. I just had to do a reinstall of my Window's 7 and since have had a problem with 2 keys on my keyboard. When I use the apostrophe key, nothing happens, but when I type something after, it appears. It's no big deal really, but I'm rather anal and it just bugs me when something isn't working right.

I have used search here at SF and gone through the tutorials, but can't find anything that quite matches. I tried to update driver's but the little box on the screen tells me driver's are up to date. I checked Device Manager and it doesn't indicate any problem. I checked Keyboard in Control Panel and it says the device is working properly.

If anyone has any suggestion's I would appreciate hearing them, if not I'll learn to live with it.

Thanks, David

I have an Acer (Logitech) wireless keyboard for which some of the keys are not working. Have changed the batteries and pressed the 'connect' button but problem persists. Wireless mouse working OK. Have removed 'dongle', rebooted. Still the same. Have tried an old PS2 type keyboard but that doesn't work either. No updates for drivers from Acer/ Logitech appear to be available. New keyboard? Or any other ideas/ solution? Any info much appreciated.

Answer:wireless keyboard, some keys not working

I would have suggested another keyboard until you mentioned that the problem persisted after you plugged in an alternative keyboard. A strange problem.
So have you tried?
A different USB ports.
The keyboard on a different computer/laptop.
Or holding down the left shift key for 5 seconds.
