E531 Windows 8.1 Fingerprint reader stopped working

Question: E531 Windows 8.1 Fingerprint reader stopped working

A few days ago my fingerprint reader suddenly stopped working. I looked around the forums and found a number of threads discussing this issue with workarounds about driver issues that were supposed to have been fixed by driver release 4.5.240.0. I dowloaded and have tried multiple times to uninstall and reinstall but nothing I do is working. I tried the older version as well to no avail. Help!

Preferred Solution: E531 Windows 8.1 Fingerprint reader stopped working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I can no longer use or enroll finger prints on my T430s laptop running Windows 8.1!ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software is 6.0.0.8102.Sensor: TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF advanced mode). Driver version: 1.6.2.352.  Symptom: when trying to enroll a fingerprint, I get the message: 'Use a longer stroke when scanning your fingerprint,' the sensor light turns from green to blinking orange (3 times), then back to green. Same happens when when trying to enroll from Windows PC Setting/ Sign-in Options/ Fingerprint (Add). What I tried: uninstalling ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software and Driver (to include selecting 'Delete the driver software for this device'), rebooting, using Lenovo System Update to re-install ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software, rebooting. Have also tried to manually install previous versions of the Fingerprint Software to no avail.  Note: I had this similar problem in the past, since upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1, but the steps above usually resolved it.  Has anybody encountered this issue? Any ideas for a solution? Many thanks!

Answer:Fingerprint reader stopped working - T430s, Windows 8.1

Try rebooting into BIOS Setup (reboot and press F1 at the Lenovo/ThinkPad logo screen).  Then change to the Security menu, Fingerprint option, and choose the option about "Reset Fingerprint Data".  Then press F10 to save and exit and boot back into Windows.  Then try to enroll your finger again.

My HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC has recently had some issues, so I had to reset it to factory settings (Windows 7) and then upgraded again to windows 10. Now my fingerprint reader is not working, I do not have windows hello on my laptop at all, and I can't even find it as biometric devices in my device manager. can I do something to make it work?

Answer:After upgrade to Windows 10 my fingerprint reader stopped working - HP. How can I get it working again?

Do you see any unknown devices in device manager?
Make sure and check Windows update to make sure windows is up to date.

Hi
Have seen several posts but no solutions. After a windows 10 update a couple of months ago, the fingerprint scanner stopped working. It recognises me but then says "your credentials could not be confirmed".
Microsoft have sent endless messages blaming the driver, the scanner etc etc. Finally they say it is an issue with the update, but they have not solution at this time. Good old Microsoft and their helpful updates, which you cannot avoid.
Anyone have the same problem and how did you fix it??
Thanks

Hello. . .
I use the fingerprint reader to login to my Latitude E5550 every time.  However, I was unable to do so after the latest Windows 10 update (version 1607).

It did still show in the Windows Device Manager (i.e., no "Unknown Device" listed)
I went into the DDP Console to try to register a new fingerprint (for troubleshooting), but it wasn't reading the swipes
I attempted to update to the latest firmware/drivers, but that only caused unknown devices to show up in the Device Manager (ControlVault Firmware v3.3.15.0 and ControlVault Drivers v3.3.14.68)
Switched back to the older driver (v3.0.48.26) and all devices were once again recognized

Any suggestions for how to get around this?  It's not the end of the world, but I *really* like using the fingerprint reader (I paid extra for) to login.  If I can provide additional helpful information, please let me know.
Thanks!

The fingerprint reader on my W541 laptop stopped working.  It's been working for more than a year, and worked last week.  Now it's not working - not illuminated & doesn't read my fingerprint.  Going into 'Settings' (Windows 10), 'Accounts', & 'Sign-In Options', it says "Windows Hello is not available on this device".I believe 'Windows Hello' is the software that runs the fingerpront reader.Any ideas of what to look for to get this working again? I have not loaded any new software since last week (when the fingerprint reader was working). The last system update installed was:"Intel Corporation - Bluetooth - 11/14/2016 12:00:00 AM - 19.30.1646.853" - installed on 2/1/17 (4 days ago). The fingerprint reader worked OK after that update.

Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post but feel free to let me know if this needs to be re-directed. I've had an Elitebook 840 G2 for about 2 months with Windows 10 installed. I frequently used the fingerprint reader to log-in. However, as of yesterday, the fingerprint reader no longer seems to be working. I'm unable to log-in with the reader and when I try to set up a new fingerprint, the reader doesn't read it. I tried looking for the fingerprint reader driver but that's not listed for my model anywhere. Any guidance for what next steps are would be great. Thanks!

The only thing i can think of is uninstall then reinstall the driver for it and see if it works again. i have two ibm thinkpad laptops with that feature and i dont even use them because to me personally they are a nuisance and after one went haywire and locked me out of the computer i said i dont need this headache anymore.i had to take the hard drive out remove the driver for that and reinstall the hard drive. no more problems after that.

My fingerprint reader has stopped working again. It started working after the last Windows 10 update, but after some time it just stopped working. I got a message saying to "swipe my finger slowly". Other times it said to "swipe finger more to the left" But no matter how many times I tried the reader just did not recognized my fingerprint. Now the reader's light is not even visible when I swipe my finger. I have not updated Windows again since I'm waiting for the latest update of Windows Creator to be available for my laptop.  All the other available updates for my laptop were supposedly installed on 4-17-17 Any help? Thank you.

I have an X1 carbon just purchased in January of 2016.  it came with Windows 10 and and all off the updates from Lenovo and Windows have been downloaded and installed.  the device manager says the fingerprint scanner driver is up to date. The fingerprint reader no longer works.  I receive messages such as " try using a longer stroke" or "move your finger to the right".  It worked in the beginning, then it would take several strokes before it registerd and now it does not work at all.  I have tried to register a new print with Windows and after about 20 trys it tells me the finger is already registered.  Then I tried a different finger and I just keep getting the messages refered to above.  How can I fix this?

Answer:fingerprint reader stopped working

Try clearing the fingerprint sensor from BIOS Setup:

1.  Reboot
2.  Press F1 to enter BIOS Setup
3.  Change to the Security page, and then select the Fingerprint item
4.  Choose the option to Reset Fingerprint Data, and then wait for it to finish
5.  Press F10 to save/exit and reboot to Windows 10
6.  Delete your fingerprints and try enrolling again, from the Settings -> Accounts -> Sign-in Options screen

Hope someone can help me with this, Windows update offer me newer driver for my fingerprint reader AuthenTec AES2501A and after that update reader simply stopped working. If I try to enroll fingerprints it sais Windows did not find any biometric devices, also it says same at logon screen and I always need type password which is annoying. There are no 7 drivers for my laptop model, only Vista. I upgraded from Vista to 7, driver was installed under Vista and it did always work with 7 with no problem, stupid me I went and updated it I removed driver and now when I do new hardware scan Windows can not find driver for my device or if I tell it look online, it will install same driver that does not work. Vista driver comes with ThinkVantage security solutions and the installer simply will not run under 7 (operating system not supported error). What to do? Is there any way to make installer not check my system? Or how I get driver out from exe file? I don't want install Vista and then 7 again and all the programs, I will spend all day on it

You can use the vista driver if you install it in compatibility mode. to do this right click the installer>properties>compatibility mode>check vista. then install

Answer:B570 Fingerprint reader stopped working - need help

dimmaemmy,

I split your message off from the other thread that was more of a general complaint rather than focused on getting help for the finger print reader.  While it seems like this has happened to at least one other person, the community doesn't seem to understand what is going on just yet.

Can you tell us a bit more about the situation?

How long have you had the B570?  Which model is it? (There is a type number on the bottom that should be 7 characters long - this will help us get more information).

Does it ever work?  Is it just buggy, or was it working fine and then just quit?

What have you tried already?

Generically, we'd suggest:

1) Check BIOS to see if there are any settings for FP enable / disable
2) Check device manager - does the fingerprint reader show up - would be under biometric devices (I think)
3) Have you downloaded and re-installed the drivers?

OK - assuming you've done those things we have some choices on next steps.

You could try to back up your data and then use one key recovery to restore system to factory state - this will wipe everything.  If something has become corrupt software wise, this should fix it.  If not, you just wasted some time and will have to reinstall your stuff.

You could call service, they could try some things over the phone, possibly offer to remote into your system and try to fix it, or arrange for you to send in for service.

It used to happen occassionally. Where I would attempt to use the fingerprint reader and nothing would happen. Now it just doesn't work at all.
I try to open the fingerprint reader program but it says "Failed to connect to the sensor."
Why do you think it's failed to connect to it and how can I get it to connect?

Answer:Fingerprint reader seems to have randomly stopped working

Sounds like there is a bad connection.
I would send the laptop to an Authorized Service Center for repair.

There is an ASP list on the Toshiba Website.

When rebooting my machine this morning, at the login screen there was a message about a service not starting.  Since then my system immediately goes to the standard windows 7 login and the fingerprint reader is not enabled. I checked the Fingerprint software settings, and the checkbox to "Use fingerprint scan instead of password when logging into Windows" is set. The windows service "Secondary Login" was turned off.  I tried turning that on with no effect. Does anyone know how to get the fingerprint scanner working again?

quick question for you. Did you by any chance update the fingerprint software via windows update? I remember doing that once, and it totally fubarred my system. the only solution was to uninstall the drivers completely and reinstall the drivers from lenovo

I've seen this one other time and it was caused by faulty hardware - the fingerprint sensor needed to be replaced.  I recommend calling the support phone number in your country and requesting warranty service.

Today I started up my laptop, signed in using the fingerprint scanner, then checked for updates.  After updating (Lenovo Fingerprint Manger - 7/8 [32,63] (Version 4.5.266.0) and Lenovo Solution Center - 7 [64] (Version 2.4.003)) and rebooting the scanner stopped working. Upon running the device manager, uninstalling the device, rescanning, my laptop attempts to install the device driver and fails. How can I either uninstall the updates OR load the driver? This is not a hardware issue, it is something jacked up with either update.

Answer:Edge E531 - fingerprint reader

Mine did exactly that too.In another thread 'sms88' found this for us.  You need this earlier version: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/ls4c71a2.exe .In my case I uninstalled the current version and then installed the one from the link above.  I've had no trouble since, but remember not to accept Lenovo updates of the fingerprint reader version with '240' in it.  If any other updates disable the fingerprint reader, reinstall the version from the link above.  Easiest to keep a copy in a safe place.Someone at Lenovo showed interest in the problem until they got the '240' version to actually load, but they seem to have lost interest in the problem you and I had that it doesn't work properly!

I upgraded to Win10 last year. The fingerprint reader has been working fine since then. Recently it stopped. Device Manager says the device is working properly. SimplePass doesn'r report an issue. I'm still prompted for my fingerprint when logging into web sites. But the reader doesn't appear to be on. The light doesn't flash and my fingerprint isn't read. Device Manager lists the driver as: 1/7/20124.3.301.0 My SimplePass is: 6.0.100.276

Hi,I am suspecting a hardware failure, but wanted to check the forums first anyway.I have an X230 Tablet running Windows 8.1 Update. Fingerprint software 6.0. Was working fine (i.e. swipe to power on and log on to Windows and the Lenovo Password Mgr) until this morning. No more green light on the sensor, no function. Windows says that the fingerprint sensor is not available. It was still showing up in Device Manager, I uninstalled it as part of some troubleshooting and it's not being detected anymore now.Any ideas other than hardware? Thanks,SA.

Answer:X230 Tablet fingerprint reader stopped working

It sounds like hardware failure but try one more thing:

Reboot into BIOS setup (by pressing F1 at the ThinkPad logo screen).
Go to the security -> fingerprint menu.
There's an option about clearing the fingerprint sensor storage (or something like that).
What happens?

I know many people have had this issue but I can't find the solution. One of the threads from 2014 has a "solved" reply but all it says is "this appears to have solved my problem." Left wondering what solved the problem... I've had this computer for a week. The fingerprint reader worked fine until yesterday. Not sure if it was a coincidence, but I connected an older DVD write drive to the USB port to try and install an old software. After that, the fingerprint reader will no longer light up or work. The driver seems to be working fine under Device Manager, but when I open the Fingerprint Reader app I get a message saying the reader is not connected. Is this a problem that has remained forever unresolved and unaddressed by Lenovo or is there a solution that someone can point me to? Any help will be much appreciated.

Answer:T450s brand new and fingerprint reader stopped working

It might be something got corrupted on the fingerprint sensor, or it might be the hardware went bad.
To rule out corruption:
1.  reboot and press F1 to enter BIOS setup
2.  change to the Security menu, and then pick the Fingerprint item
3.  choose the option to "Reset Fingerprint Data"
4.  BIOS setup will tell you the result - what does it say?
5.  if step #4 is OK, then reboot into Windows and try to enroll your fingerprint again

A few weeks ago the fingerprint scanner on my girlfriend's U460 stopped working. She was deep into a major project at the time so I wasn't able to really look into it until now. To the best of my knowledge no new software was installed around that time and the only updates would have come through Windows Update. The software does not recognize that the fingerprint scanner is connected. I uninstalled the software, restarted, and installed the latest version (5.9.3.6245) for Windows 7 64-bit from the lenovo download page. The problem seems to be that either Windows isn't detecting the hardware or that it's been given a generic driver and I can't find it. There's nothing in the device manager that appears to be the fingerprint reader. Normally with these symptoms I'd assume the hardware has gone bad, but looking for solutions there seem to be a lot of issues with Lenovo fingerprint readers. I just haven't seen anything about what I'm seeing specifically. Any ideas?

I've now tried installing the Windows 10 Pro Creator's Update twice, and both times my fingerprint reader stopped working for Windows Hello. I just get "Your credentials could not be verified". I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver (and I'm on the latest), removing and re-registering my fingerprint, and I've also tried the trick I saw suggested elsewhere of switching to a local account, then back to a Microsoft account. That works temporarily but as soon as I switch back to my MS account, it breaks again. I've rooted around the BIOS but everything seems fine. I have the same fingerprint set on startup and that still works fine; Windows just doesn't recognize it, either when it's passed on from the BIOS or when I try to do it again manually. Has anyone had this problem and managed to fix it *without* reverting permanently to a local account? I don't see why that should be necessary and it definitely isn't supposed to be. I have reverted back to the Anniversary Update both times because of this issue.

Or should I say they suddenly stopped working under windows. I am using windows xp sp2 and have been using this laptop on the same installation of Windows for about 6 months now.. no problems at all.. till now. This morning when i turned on my laptop, the first thing i noticed that the fingerprint reader was not working.. It was not giving me any response at all.. so i logged in with my password.. Then while using the internet the wifi got disconnected from the router and after that it refused to work no matter what I do.. It gets stuck on "acquiring network adress" but when i gave a static ip, like 192.168.1.232 it gets connected but i dont get any data from the router.. it shows offline mode.. also the wifi gets disabled and then enabled by itself multiple times.. I had to turn it off..  -The router is fine.. my acer aspir 5315 and my nokia connects with the router via wi fi without any problems... - Also I tried using the wifi under ubuntu linux and it works there.. meaning the net works wirelessly without any problems in ubuntu but it refuses to connect in windows xp.. I could not try the fingerprint reader in ubuntu since it is not supported by linux yet. I tried removing the drivers and reinstalling the software+drivers.. but that did not help... any ideas as to what may have caused this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.. I dont want to do a re-install of windows.. Help

Half the time the fingerprint system wouldn't show up being replaced by the typed login. That was on Vista. On WIn 7 it doesn't work at all and Lenovo hasn't edited the driver yet.

Hello All,I recently upgraded to Windows 8, and I can't seem to be able to get the fingerprint reader to work. When I try to enroll a finger with the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software, it says that:Error Code:         Error MessageE7210005           Cannot enroll user.E7210005           Cannot update passportE7210005           Cannot find fingerprint sensor When I open the Windows Biometric control panel, it says that the fingerprint reader is "Unavailable". I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device in device manager, and I have also tried downloading the latest drivers from http://support.authentec.com/Downloads/Windows/Drivers.aspx#LiveTabsContent38993Neither one of which resolved the issue. When I first installed Windows 8, the fingerprint reader worked as it should, however, I have had my computer repaired since then (for an unrelated issue), and it quit functioning right after the first repair. They have replaced the motherboard and keyboard in my computer. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I downloaded and installed the fingerprint reader software for my T61 (7659-D22) with Windows 7. At the login screen I see the "Scan your finger" option, but none of my fingerprints is recognized, so I log on with my password. In Windows I get the Fingerprint popup inviting me to enroll fingerprints. Three are shown as enrolled already (carry over form WinXP, no doubt), all of which I had tried unsuccessfully at the login screen. I tried enrolling additional fingerprints, but the scans do not register at all. How do I solve this problem?

Answer:How do I get the fingerprint reader working on Windows 10

Aug 11. I have been running Windows 10 updates each day since upgrading and today after a reboot the finger print reader started working? and remembered my print as well. I guess Microsoft dropped in a fix for this (which works for me) so maybe something to try?

My fingerprint reader doesn't seem to work on Windows login anymore (no light on the reader and it doesn't accept any fingerprint) in the past couple of days so have to login using a password. The fingerprint reader works fine in the BIOS and also when I go into the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Reader application i.e. it asks me for a fingerprint. Has this happend to anyone else and has this been caused by a specific MS patch in the last monthly patch cycle? I have reinstalled both the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software 64bit (v 8102) and the TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor driver (v 1.6.1.341). I'm running a W530 and fully patched Windows 8.1 Pro

Model: ThinkPad Edge E420OS:       Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bitProblem: Fingerprint reader suddenly stopped working (Image 1). One major change I think which might have lead to this - I had a recent update from Microsoft on 28/Aug/2014 (Image 2). I'm not sure though that this must be the cause of the problem.Troubleshooting tried: I tried first to repair through "programs and features" but did not work. Then I tried to uninstall and reinstall the FingerPrint reader software (Latest version available on Lenovo Website for my model). Still did not work. I'm pasting photographs of the error. I've tried to follow all the methods shown on various threads on this forum but nothing worked so far....Even the TouchChip (Fingerprint) patch driver for Windows 7 (64-bit)  which is compatible with Windows 8.1 doens't install. (image 3). Device manager shows error for Biometric devices. (image 4). Please help.    Image - 1

Answer:Re: Fingerprint Reader Not Working On Windows 8.1 Pro Startup

For Windows 8.1 you should not be installing any fingerprint software.  You should uninstall ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software.  The driver you need (for TouchStrip Fingerprint Sensor) will come from Windows Update.  Then you can enroll fingerprints from the PC Settings -> Accounts -> Sign-in Options screen.

If there is a problem with the device in Device Manager, try removing it and check the option to delete the driver software.  Then reboot, run Windows Update, and a compatible version for your system should be installed.

Hi Everyone, when i visit device manager it says my Biometric devices are operating correctly.Specs - T410i, windows 7, 64-bit When i click on Biometric devices in control panel, it says "Unavailable" When i try to setup fingerprint reader using the thinkvantage software it says "Cannot enroll User" - error code E7210005. Lenovo support told me to hard reset the computer, i did that... reinstalled drivers, reinstalled software, etc etc. still cant get it to work! Any ideas?

Answer:T410i - Windows 64-Bit - Fingerprint reader not working

Do you have the TPM enabled and fully initialized in the BIOS?  I think the TPM stores the fingerprint scans, and I don't think the reader can work with it disabled...

Answer:T410 Windows 10: Fingerprint Reader not working on powerup

Windows 10 is not officially supported on your T410, but for any chance of this to work you need to be using ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software version 6.0 (not 5.9.9)

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds036923

After installing this version, you may need to delete all your fingerprints and enroll them again.

Hi There I was using windows login (single admin user) and fingerprint reader to login to my Thinkpad T510. Yesterday night I changed windows password and I didn't update finger print. Unfortunately I am not able to login when I tried to login using windows login today, I forgot the password and when I tried finger print reader it is just throwing error. Why finger print is not working after windows password reset? What should I do to login? Help would be appreciated!!

Answer:Fingerprint Reader not working after windows password reset

I just called the tech support just now? I just asked the 'why the finger print reader not recognizing the finger print after changing windows password?', and he gave the following answers 1. You should change fingerprint while changing windows password.  I don't understand the reason behind it, btw is this true? 2. We can't do anything for this issue.

I cannot get the fingerprint reader to work for logging into Windows 8.1 on my brand new T440s.  I have no problem registering my fingers in Fingerprint Manager Pro (v8.01.67 (x64)).  But when I try  to login with the finger print reader, I get any of these messages: A match for the fingerprint was not found in the fingerprint databaseUse a longer stroke when scanning your fingerprintThere was a problem scanning your fingerprint.  Try again...I have installed all updates (BIOS, Fingerprint Manager Pro, ...) via Lenovo System Update. I am just logging into Windows itself, not into a domain or a workgroup. I tried setting up the fingerprint reader via the Windows fingerprint enrollment utility, as suggested in this forum entry , but it made no difference. I haven't tried uninstalling/reinstalling the fingerprint drivers & utility software, since it was just updated via Lenovo System Update.  Should I? So I'm looking for some help.

Answer:Fingerprint reader not working for login on Windows 8.1 on T440s

I can only think of 2 possibilities:

1.  there is something wrong with your fingerprint scanner hardware
2.  (I don't mean to insult you) you're using it wrong

Don't get me wrong, #1 is a very real possibility but for #2 are you enrolling/swiping your finger in a single smooth motion like shown in the video?  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HRhJHZJoSg

Windows update caused this problem on 22-12-2008 and I noticed this error last week.

Problem with Video Driver :
NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 Video Driver - 7.15.11.5682
This is the video driver version for my HP tablet(HP Website). But windows update installed the latest version(7.15.11.7770) from NVIDIA. From that time onwards, my touch screen stopped working.
I contacted HP care and they advised me to follow these steps.
1) Uninstall the latest driver and install the 7.15.11.5682 driver by giving the video driver (devicemanager ->display adapter -> Nvidia 6150 -> uninstall)
2) Bios Flash (they provided the software)
3) Calibrate
I am done with the first two steps but still my touch screen is not recognizing the pen. So I couldn't calibrate.
When I contacted the HP care again, they are telling it may be because of hardware failure. My notebook is working perfectly except this touchscreen problem.

Again they asked me to do the driver installation in safe mode.
(Add/Remove Programs -> Remove only display adapter)
Driver installed successfully but in device manager it is showing the latest version.
I tried two times, but couldn't help. I can't install the older driver. pls help.

Hy,It's my first post here. I got a LENOVO t500 at work to use and I wanted to try to use finger print auth to log in. Its in a domain, but I got local administrator privileges on it. The machine runs 64bit Windows 8.1 Pro.The fingerprint reader driver was missing in the first place (windows identified it as a fingerprint sensor but had no driver). The sensor is an AuthenTec Inc, AES2810. I've tried to install the lenovo driver:http://support.lenovo.com/en/downloads/ds034486But received the error message in the subject about I need to enable the biometric framework.I've also seenhttp://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T420-Windows-8-1-fingerprint-reader/m-p/124...and downloaded-installed an authentec driver successfully, so now device manager shows it and identifies it as it should.. Well I've went to the group policies as it was suggeseted everywhere on the net and turned on the options.I've also checked and found a windows services that had biometrics in it : I've set it to auto-start and started it right away. But even after all of this the fingerprint option is missing in the accounts sign in page in pc settings.I've restarted the machine multiple times (with the real restart )Could you please give me a hint?I've spent a whole day looking for this yesterday.. Have a nice day & Regards,Steve

My Lenovo T440s laptop has a fingerprint reader, and I used it to log in to my computer. However, it suddenly stopped working. According to it, it can't get an image of enrolled fingerprint image. Not only that, when I try to log in after turning on my computer, it doesn't let me use other ways to sign in either, like password or PIN. When I press it, 2 seconds later it just switches back to fingerprint method. I have trouble signing into the computer. How should I fix this?

Hi everybody, my name is Giovanni, and I live in Italy. This is my first lenovo, but I've been using my father's thinkpads since their birth. So, I tried to use my fingerprint module, but when I try to start "Lenovo Fingerprint Software" or "Thinkvantage Fingerprint Software" I get an error depending on which of those two software I use.Lenovo Fingerprint Software says: Fingerprint sensor not initialized by the application. Access denied.ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software says: Cannot find fingerprint sensor. Error code E7210005. Second question: which is the difference between those two software? Should I remove one of them? I am using windows vista (soon will upgrade to windows7). Thankyou in advance!

Answer:Fingerprint reader not working

Hi, I hada similar problem, I was using "Lenovo Fingerprint Software", after a Windows update it stopped working with an error saying the software "cannot communicat?e with fingeprint sensor". I searched the forums but could not a solution. During my search I found there are two pieces of software - "ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software" and "Lenovo Fingerprint Software". I had already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the  "Lenovo Fingerprint Software", without success. So uninstaled the fingerprint software, went in the BIOS under Security/Fingerprint and "Reset Internal Fingerprint data". Next I downloaded the "ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software" and installed it. All working ok now, it actually seems to recognise my fingerprints quicker. The only thing now is that "ThinkVantage System Update" keeps promting me to install an update "Lenovo Fingerprint Software Version: 3.3.2.27", the "ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software" is Version: 5.9.5 Build: 7038. I have hidden (Do not show this update option) because I am happy with the "ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software". It would be interesting to know why there are two versions of this software and what is the difference between "ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software" and "Lenovo Fingerprint Software".

Hi guys, this is my first post here.I just bought an HP ENVY a week ago, and everything was working fine till I updated the fingerprint reader and now it isn't working anymore. I can't set up the login by Windows Hello, it always says that I'm not scanning properly and flashes with a red light, but the thing that worries me the most is that the light on the sensor turns on and off even when it's not supposed to. For example: I open a new tab on Chrome and it goes on and off for like two minutes. Yesterday it went on and off all the time. This obviously this drains out my battery, so I wonder what could I do to solve this. The problems started when I updated it. Thank you for your attention.

Hello, My notebook is an HP DV7T-6000 CTO Entertainment Notebook that I have upgraded to Windows 10 64 Bit.  The original operating system was Windows 7 Home and the fingerprint reader worked at that time.  After I upgraded to Win. 10 it had stopped working.  I tried to look for a solution but didn't have any luck.  I made an image of my notebook, about 6 months ago and saved it for a later time.  Some time after making the image, I found a way to make my fingerprint reader work again, but didn't save the instructions or the downloads for it.  I know, I'm beating my head against the wall.  Because of suspecious notebook behavior, I reloaded the image I saved and now I can't seem to find a way to make my fingerprint reader work again.  I do remember that it was an updated driver for my laptop that made the fingerprint scanner work again, but I don't remember what the updated version was.  If any of you could help, I will be truly greatfull.  Maybe, at some point, I can stop banging my head against the wall.   Thank you!

But at no other time am I given the option to use my fingerprint scanner (such as trying to sign into my Amazon.com account). Is there a Ctrl or Fn key that I need to use? I have obviously enrolled my fingers correctly, since I can swipe my finger for the Windows logon.  Thanks.

Answer:Fingerprint Reader Not Working

In the Think Vantage program folder you find the Think Vantage Client Security Solution. There you can activate several fingerprint applications.

I booted my laptop yesterday and found that my fingerprint swiper was not working.  The message on the screen kept flipping from "please swipe finger to continue" and "press any key to login".  I don't know what caused it and i'm running a full system diagnostic right now, but if that doesn't fix the issue is there a way to fix the swiper or bypass it?  The most unfortuante thing is that I have forgotten my windows password to boot.

UltimaNemo, welcome to the forum, it would be helpful if you could post which R-series and Operating System you have, even better post the Type and Model Number this will help members to help you. Please do NOT post your s/n. I also suggest you try hard to remember your windows password. How to subvert this is not allowed to be discussed here as stated in the forum rules.

Hi. I upgraded the above software  3 days ago to ver 5.8.6.6874. The fingerprint reader now is not recognized by ThinkVantage applications - Password Manager etc. Do I need to roll this update back and can this be done? I have one other query. My T61 sits in a port replicator most of the time. If there is a power outage the whole thing freezes and needs to be hard booted. I would have thought it would switch to battery without this problem. Any ideas? Thanks

Answer:T61 - fingerprint reader not recognized after fingerprint reader software upgraded

try re update the bios firmware with the previous version. When you say freeze, do you mean it doesn't respond to external keyboard and mouse command?

Hi Folks, I just recieved a new T450s and the fingerprint reader setup does nothing.  It tells me to swipe my finger, which I have done for 40-50 times to no effect.  The setup process appears to being handled by Windows 10, if that is relevant. Any suggestions? TIA

Hi all, I have a T400, just a couple weeks old.  It have Windows XP Pro installed and for the last couple weeks, the fingerprint reader worked great.  Then it just stopped working.  I got all the most up to date drivers I could find installed.  When I login, the finger print icon comes up, says Please wait for a minute, then goes to Fingerprint system not available.  When I go into the Lenovo Fingerprint Software, in the Select a finger to enroll screen, it says at the bottom Power-on fingerprint security contains N/A free slots.  If I go into Settings, it will say Get power-on policy failed! Any suggestions on how to get this working again??   Thanks, Dan

I've been using this fingerprint reader for 1.5yrs now. Lately when I turn on my computer, sometimes it's working and sometimes it has a red "x" over the icon in my startup menu in bottom righthand corner. I had to reboot 3x this morning before I could get it to work. It worked for a while and now nothing. There is no red x showing, but it's not scanning at all.

I went to HP site and downloaded lastest version of the reader, rebooted and still nothing. Any ideas?

I use Vista Ultimate op sys. My computer is HP HDX18t, 64 bit. (I installed Vista, 64bit version update from HP site.)

Thanks for your help!

I believe it drains too much battery power during sleep/hibernation/full shutdown. I turned it off in BIOS (1.09), set stop using it, and removed fingerprint data in Win 7 and Lenovo's fingerprint management. Surprising, the light is still on after complete shutdown or in sleep mode. Gosh!

Hello The fingerprinter reader stopped working after a recent Windows 10 update.  Actually, it sort of works.   After shut down, it works when I reboot.  I get through the bios security.  But, when login stalls at the Windows login screen.  There, I have to enter the password from the keyboard.   When logged off, I have to use the keyboard to log back in.  The fingerprint reader doesn't work at the Windows login screen.  Any assistance is appreciated. Thankskarlo

Answer:X1 Carbon Fingerprint Reader not working

karlo,

What version/build of Win10 are you using?  Are you participating in the Win10 insider program?
We heard that latest insider build has some problem with fingerprint, seems to be some OS bug.

Hi, When I first got my T400, my fingerprintreader was working perfectly! Then, I had to reformat my harddrive, and since then it only works for logging into windows to begin with.  Before it automatically asked me whenever I was logging into a website if I wanted it to be saved with fingerprint reader.  I can't figure out how to get all my other passwords saved!  Any suggestions? Thanks!

Answer:x61T fingerprint reader not working now........

I have the same new problem - Just got the tablet about a week ago, installed updates per update center and now the fingerprint reader doesn't work. In the device center, it says that it is functioning, but if I go to the fingerprint section of control panel, it does nothing when I try to use the test fingerprint option. Occasionally, it will show a fingerprint one time, but if I try again, no luck. It never recognizes that I am trying to use a fingerprint to logon on or any other time.

I had various user names and passwords registered on numerous websites.
From IE7, I could use the fingerprint reader to input the user name and passwords to these sites.

Since Windows update installed IE8, the fingerprint system does not work within internet explorer - it works as normal for all other programs and logon.

I figured out it must be a security thing in IE8, but cannot work out how to re-enable the fingerprint software into IE8.

Answer:Re: Tecra A10 Fingerprint reader not working with IE 8

Hi

This issue has been posted sever times here in the forum and it related to the compatibility issue between the old Fingerprint Truesuite access manager and IE8 and Firefox 3
As far as I know the newer Truesuite access manager software v3.0 or higher should solve this issue.
But we have to wait until such update will be published!

Cheers

ThinkPad T440p. Win 10 Pro 1703, OS Build 15063.632, Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=0017) Driver 4.5.514.0 dated 5/23/2017. Since the last update having difficulties signing in from a cold start. Takes 4 or 5 swipes to log on. Resuming from sleep the reader doesn't work at all. Tried to update and/or add a fingerprint. When I use the finger I usually use it recognizes the print and says that it is already registered. When I try to add a fingerprint the app reports it is having trouble recognizing the input. Result is I have to enter password to resume from sleep.Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hello,I have a brand new T540P with a Validity fingerprint reader.  Rougly 80% of the time, the Fingerprint reader is unresponsive at the windows login screen after waking the computer from sleep. It works 100% of the time when booting from an off position, however. Once logged in, it also works 100% of the time. The issue only arises when logging into windows. Things I have tried-uninstalling/installing device in device manager and finger print manager pro software-setting fingerprints through both fingerprint manager pro software (lenovo) OR through the built in windows fingerprint control panel options-disabling "allow windows to turn off this device to save power" in device manager. I should note as well that I have another T540P that I ordered as a replacement. Both models experience the same issue. Is this a platform wide issue affecting all T540P models? This is frusterating.

*I would like to UPDATE ALL of the devices in DEVICE MANAGER (instead of only certain things being upgraded) because I keep finding certain items in device manager NOT being updated from the internet AND what's already on my computer (that I didn't know was there this whole time)
*My fingerprint reader/sensor NO LONGER works. There is no light indicating it even works at all. This happened AFTER upgrading to windows 10.

Does anyone else have the problem of the fingerprint reader not working after hibernate? This is an intermittent problem, doesn't happen all the time, but frequently. Come out of hibernation, it is blinking, swipe my finger, nothing happens, blinking stops and the reader doesn't work after that. I have to enter my Windows password and it doesn't work for any websites. Have to reboot to re-engage the reader. I'm on Win 7 Home Prem 64 bit with latest drivers for the fingerprint reader and lastest update for Authentec software.

Answer:Fingerprint reader not working after hibernate

So here's the solution(s) as found by Pokey and me: Option 1:  Computer, Properties, Device Manager, Biometric Devices, Validity Sensors, Properties, and the Power Management tab, Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." Option 2:  Try disabling and enabling the "Credential Manager" service by going into Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, Credentials Manager.  Even though the Credentials Manager status is ?Started,? stop the Credentials Manager service and restart it. Find more information here:  https://support.authentec.com/Forum/tabid/318/forumid/49/threadid/600/scope/posts/Default.aspx Option 3:  Do both.

I purchased a Lenovo 3000 N100 a few weeks ago, and the Omnipass fingerprint reader program worked great at first.  Then this morning, it no longer let me log in.  I have Omnipass set up so I can use my fingerprint to log into websites (email, etc).  When I went to one of these websites, Omnipass came up with the top part of the dialog box, but not the bottom part with the fingerprint screen.  I couldn't close Omnipass after that either.  I had to log off my computer and log back in to make the box go away.  I think something is wrong with the Omnipass files on my system.  I don't want to uninstall Omnipass, because I don't know how to get it back.  Can anyone help me out? PS- I am using Omnipass version 5.Message Edited by natedog55902 on 02-07-2008 09:05 AM

Answer:Omnipass fingerprint reader not working

Look in the lenovo folders on you C:\ drive for a folder called LPRA, the setup.exe in here will install OmniPass again if you uninstall it. BTY the OmniPass version that Lenovo seems to be shipping is very outdated and causes headaches with Windows Updates (it will create two logon accounts with certain updates more info here: http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windows.vista.administration_accounts_passwords/msg/... ) Lenovo ship version 5.00.18 which has been replaced with 5.00.75 which fixes all these bugs. I believe it is time for Lenovo to UPDATE THEIR VERSION to 5.00.75 and stick it on the ThinkVantage updater!Message Edited by ljbade on 02-15-2008 09:11 AM

Hi dinomon, Welcome to SF,

Have you install proper drivers for your Finger Print Reader device. If not go to their website. Download the Lastest drives for Windows 7 then install it. See whether it works or not.

P.S. Please fill the System spec so we know what are we dealing with.

Hope this helps,
Captain
