I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, My touchpad is touchy.  I will be typing something and all of a sudden the cursor will jump because the touchpad was still active.  Cannot find any setting anywhere which disables the keyboard while typing.  Also cannot find a feature that disables the touchpad when a mouse is plugged in. Any help appreciated Josh

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E550 touch pad disable when typing + disable with usb mouse feature missing

Hi jd31,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!

You could consider disabling the synaptics pointing device in Device manager while you have attached the USB mouse.

Please let us know, whether the above step helped you.
Thank you, have a good day.

My display drivers are old almost 2 years now. It's not very professional from Lenovo to be so lazy about updating drivers. Someone asked this before, and guy from Lenovo said to him that current drivers are working OK so there is no need for updating them. Well, newer drivers are obviously working better, but Lenovo doesn't care enough I guess.. Will never recommend Lenovo to anyone.. Sorry for mistakes in text, English is my foreign language..

Been navigating a few different forums quite a bit for this one.We downgraded this Lenovo E431 to windows 7 to fit our corporate environment. There is no disable option in the BIOS.The windows 7 drivers do not add the UltraNAV tab. Always fails on the 3rd portion as the 2 green check marks pass on the first 2 components and fail on the 3rd.  Ran under both the user and admin accounts. No other missing drivers. The device manager does not show any touchpad drivers aside from a "universal" mouse driver which can not be uninstalled.Registry mod will not change this. Aside from pulling the ribbon cable out I am sort of at a loss.  First time ever being stumped by a touchpad.....Last time ever buying an E431 for our environment, we've had 3 of these so far and nothing but issues. Sticking with other Lenovo models. Any ideas?

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E431 - how to disable the touchpad?

I realize this is an old question, but my reply may help some with the same new question.  There's a quick answer for those who know what they are doing and a longer answer for those who don't. On my Lenovo Edge 2-1580 I couldn't turn off the detestable touch pad.  Here's the part you know:Because this is a Synaptics touchpad, the option to disable it if an external mouse is connected, simply isn't there.   You also might know that if you go into regedit and look for  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh and change the value to 33 it should work ... but doesn't. What I found is if you go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh and change THAT value to 33, reboot your computer, it does indeed work!  Pull the receiver from the USB port and the touchpad starts working again! For those not familiar with regedit, your best option is to find someone who is and have them do it because editing the registry is not something you want to be doing if you don't know what you're doing. To give you an idea of how dangerous it is, read this article on what the registry is and how your computer can stop working if you mess it up, http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/what-everybody-should-know-about-windows-registry.htm Now that I've scared the newbies and made them understand how critical it is, it isn't difficult to do this little fix if you can follow instructions.  So here are the step by step instructions for you.&nbs... Answer:ThinkPad Edge E330 WiFi disable

Hello elFilipko, exactly the same thing happened to me today and this is how I managed to fix it: 1. I have downloaded four Windows drivers as described here (the first one of the links isn't active anymore so I downloaded this driver in its current version from support.lenovo.com - Lenovo Power Management Driver for Windows 8). 2. I installed all these drivers on my Windows 8 (I have dual boot - Win 8 and Ubuntu). 3. After restarting the computer and rebooting again to Windows, I pressed F9 to enter Wi-Fi-related settings (you may be required to press Fn+F9, depending on your settings). After pressing this key, a small window with Wi-Fi-related settings should appear in the middle of the screen (as far as I know, this special window appears only with the Windows 7 version of these drivers, so it was necessary to uninstall and replace the Windows 8 versions of drivers in my case). In this small window, I disabled airplane mode and turned Wi-Fi on. 4. After step 3, it seemed that nothing has changed, but just after rebooting to Ubuntu, the Wi-Fi was on and working. I think a similar solution could work in your case too, just install Win 7 or Win 8 and try it. Best regards.

Hi!I have Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 15 and i have a little problem with that.
Thinkpad edge 15 has all kinds of buttons on the keyboard. Like volume buttons, speaker mute button etc.
The problem is that there is a button for Webcam to disable/enable it (marked with yellow box on the pic), but its not working anymore. Everytime i push it, nothing happens(instead it shows me mouse cursor with that ring) . it should show me that camera is on/off. For example it shows me when my mic is off.      Like that:
  Any solutions?

My problem is that I want the BIOS to prevent Windows 10 from accessing my internal laptop-microphone for some security reason. But it doesn't work. I'm using the Thinkpad L420 and I already flashed the BIOS to 1.23. In the BIOS I used under Security -> I/O Port Access the option to disable microphone. And after reboot the checkbox still says that the microphone must be disabled. Thus Windows shouldn't even notice this device and much less it shouldn't be able to access or record audio. But it does. I tried the same in Linux and Windows 7 and they all are excluded from accessing microphone in order to my BIOS setting. Only Windows 10 can access. So, I think that must be a Bug in BIOS 1.23 and hope the lenovo support will bring out a patch for security reason.ps.: For all of you guys who advise me to disable microphone in Windows ... That's not the point! ... So, how some of you guys already know, Microsoft spies everywhere and especially in the new Spysystem called Windows 10. For that reason it's a big safety issue when my system accesses the internal microphone even if I disabled it in the BIOS and because it's internal I don't have the option just to unplug the microphone physically. Now I hope you understand my point.Thank you for all Help.Hans - Germany

There's a BIOS update for my new Edge 15 Laptop.  I have downloaded it but when I click to run it I get a warning that it is only for the Lenovo VIPER 5A.  However, it looks like it is for my Edge 15.  Here's a link to the support page where it is offered:  http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-edge-series-laptops/edge-15-lap....  My current BIOS is A9CN42WW.  The new BIOS is A9CN44WW.  My computer is running the 5th Generation I7-5500U processor.  I do not know what a Lenovo VIPER 5A is.  I hope someone on this forum and help.  Many thanks.

Answer:Updating Edge 15 (Broadwell) BIOS upgrade warning

I talked to Lenovo Support today about my above question. (This was the first time I ever talked to Lenovo Support.) The person I talked to told me not to update my BIOS as this could void my warranty. Well, that is a scary thought.  Since this BIOS update is offered on their support page for the Edge 15 with the Broadwell processor it seems strange that installing it would void the warranty. But the support person I talked to did say don?t do it and to call them with any problems. I just thought I would pass this information along.

You don't need to disable SLI in the Nvidia Control Panel to run the VGA BIOS update stated in this article. You just have to follow the instructions on the readme.txt file and you should be good.

Hi to all!

I'm a (satisfied) owner of a Satellite SM30-604.

It happened that the internal fan broke and I managed to provide enough "fresh air" with other two fans. Let me stress very well about this point: there are no problems about overheating. But no fans are now connected to the mobo (Intel odem i855pm-333, I suppose).

So, it appens that when CPU reach 70-72?C (that is a normal temperature for this architecture), the mobo slow down the centrino M processor (1600MHz) to a frequency that is, more or less, a quater (400MHz), leaving the laptop useless.

So my point is: is there a BIOS (also unofficial, modded or what else...) that can disable the check of the mobo of the temperature/fan?

I'll apriciate any help!

ale

ps: my current BIOS is Phoenix v1.70. I cant find an official upgrade.

No, there is no such BIOS.
What you can do is to change the power saving settings in Toshiba Power Saver (I assume you use Win XP).
So in Toshiba Power Saver you can change the CPU control method to fixed and CPU processing speed to higher level.

I just replaced the motherboard in an Edge 15 and I'm attempting to update the model and serial number of the system by flashing the BIOS from a CD.  When I attempt to do so, I'm only allowed to enter the last three alphanumeric digits of the model number when prompted for that information.  The update completes and the laptop reboots but I still see the warning that the model type and serial number are invalid.  When I check the BIOS, it has been updated but the fields for the model and serial information are still blank.  How can I fix this?

Answer:Edge 15 - Can't update machine type or serial number when updating BIOS

If you are an authorised lenovo technician then you can get a maintenance diskette software from Lenovo. This is the only software that will achieve what you want.

I have a Thinkpad T60 Type 2007. Unfortunately my battery no longer works. When I try and update the BIOS using the 'BIOS update utility' version 2.23 an error message appears telling me that I cannot proceed with the BIOS update as my battery is not fully charged (which I am obviously aware of). So... I may have bricked my Thinkpad Edge 15. I tried updating its BIOS via the Lenovo EOL downloaded Windows files, the screen went black, waited a couple of hours for something to happen, and then turned it off. The laptop is now fundamentally dead: when you try to turn it on it just stays there, with a black screen and fans running at full speed. It's a Thinkpad Edge 15, with Product ID 0301J6G. Is there some kind of BIOS Recovery Mode? Read there are different procedures for different models, but cannot find anything on this particular model.

I have updated my (originally Windows 7 equipped) Thinkpad E530 to the latest BIOS version 2.55. I have also installed Windows 8.1 x64 on it.My question is: should I use the 'OS Optimized Defaults' in the BIOS or not?In the BIOS install descriptions, it says to use the OS Optimized Defaults on a Windows 8 (x64) pre-installed machine, and to use the regular defaults on a Windows 7 pre-installed machine. But my computer was a 7 pre-installed machine, but is now running Windows 8 x64. So which defaults do I need to load?Kind Regards,Psycho

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E530 BIOS

Hi,

As per your query on BIOS setting, I suggest you to enable the 'OS Optimized Defaults' option only when you want to install Windows 8 64bit Operating System.

If you are installing Windows 7 Operating System then 'OS Optimized Defaults' option is not required for that.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

After reading the latest news on the Lenovo LSE (Lenovo Service Engine) and suggested BIOS updates I need some clarification. Does updating your BIOS from a download on a Lenovo Support page specifically for one?s laptop invalidate one?s warranty? I assume not but I just want to know for sure. I have a Lenovo Edge 15. There is a BIOS update listed for my Edge 15 that just came out 8/12/15.

I read a quote in an article from The Guardian on the web stating that Lenovo encourages their users update their BIOS to the latest firmware: http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/aug/14/lenovo-service-engine-pre-installed-security-super...   I just want to make sure that doing so does not invalidate the warranty.

I appreciate your answer.

Thanks.

I will start from the beginning to give as much info as possible.A few months ago I tried to rebuild windows and after doing so, realized it would not install windows as the backup was windows 7 and I had upgraded to windows 10. I ordered a Flash drive with windows 10 on it and installed windows again. After doing so I updated all the drivers that I could and found that the "Thinkpad BIOS update - 7 [32,64]/8.1/10 [64] V 1.28.1.28" failed and literally froze up my screen. Not a blue screen just everything froze and I could not do anything but a hard power shut down to correct it. This worried me because I thought my laptop was going to be an oversized paper weight afterwards. Luckily it started up again and loaded windows fine. Now lately I have been having many severe freezeups especially after using something like google hangouts for around 5-10 minutes or playing a certain game. I believe its when it does a stack dump that causes the freeze ups. I would like to solve this without ruining my laptop and am scared to update the BIOS because of this. I have done a hardware scan and everything was fine with the hardware. I buy a new laptop generally around every 3-5 years but I've only had this one for around 1.5 years or less, so I would love to make my next laptop purchase with another Lenovo, if this can be solved without problems. My last laptop was a piece of junk acer and it still ran fine for 5+ years and still runs today minus the keyboard (using an external keyboard). ... Read more

Answer:ThinkPad E560 BIOS updating issues

Just because it is not displaying a Blue Screen, it may reporting the error, so try to note the time the next freeze occurs, and then check the Windows Event Logs (right-click on start and select Even Viewer >> Windows Logs)  and check the Application and System logs to see if it reported anything at the time of, or just prior to, the freeze.    Note:  You may want to use the Filter Current Log feature in the right pane of Even Viewer to narrow the results to only Critical and Error entries. It may actually be throwing a BSOD in the background, , and if so, you will see a C:\Windows\Memory.dmp file being created.    If one is created and you can post the .dmp file somewhere where it can be downloaded for review, it might help point to the the culprit. The first thing I would do in any case is download and run the Lenovo System Update Tool to make sure all of the drivers are up to date on your system since driver issues, especially video drivers, can cause issues like you are seeing. Windows is usually pretty good at fixing minor drive errors on its own, but since your system is hanging I would still run a manual disk check of the hard drive using CheckDisk. How to run Checkdisk Right Click on Start and select Command Prompt Admin (or Windows Powershell Admin) Type chkdsk c: and press Enter   (this just checks the drive for any errors, but does not fix them, but will tell you if need to ... Hi! We have a number of ThinkPad Yoga 11e, most of them are about 1.5 years old and we're currently updating their Windows 10 image and BIOS. Imaging process completes fine, but updating the BIOS has caused us a lot of issues. When updating BIOS from within Windows with the latest BIOS Update Utility (1.26) from Lenovo's website the laptops crash with a blue screen of death (BSOD). We then tried all previous BIOS versions (from 1.10 and up), but they all crashed too. The current BIOS version on the laptops is 1.10, but even that failed. We initially ran the installer from our network drive with the installer file renamed for easier identification. We have since tried renaming the installer file back to the original name and running it locally. Have also tried running it only with wireless enabled, running only with Ethernet enabled. At one point we thought there might have been another installation process running in the background (drivers, Windows Update), so made sure that had all completed. The BIOS upgrade still crashed the laptop. We have been unable to pinpoint any of the above scenarios to be the culprit, as now some of them work randomly. Two machines side by side, one will work and the other one will fail. We're pulling our hair out with this one. Has anyone else had this experience and have you found what steps need to be taken to successfully complete the BIOS upgrade every time?

Hello! A quick intro!I work for tech support at a high school in Norway, with over a thousand Lenovo notebooks distributed. A student came in with his laptop. Windows wouldnt boot. When I tried to enter the BIOS, I was asked for a password. The student claimed he didnt set it, and I know some students do this as a prank sometimes. I somehow found out that the password was blank. But I wasnt able to completley disable it in the BIOS, because most settings are locked. I even tried booting my trusty YUMI USB stick (with hirens, etc) and that didnt work. Probably because the boot option is locked at "EFI", and I believe I need "Legacy or "both". I also tried clearing the CMOS, twice. Now i always get an RTC error message on boot, possibly because I havent changed the Date/Time in BIOS yet, but im not able to. I took a few pictures, and added some comments to them. You can find the album here: http://imgur.com/a/mSEI8  Thanks in advance,Olav Markus

Answer:ThinkPad Edge E330 - BIOS is locked down

Good day and welcome to the community.

Your screenshot that shows the Supervisor Password as [Enabled] means that it is not 'blank'. Tapping Enter at the Supervisor Password prompt allows you into BIOS, as you've seen, but disallows modifications to settings.

Is it possible that another student has pranked the one who brought the machine to you?

Regardless, there is no bypass for a set Supervisor password, nor is there a master password. If it cannot be remembered or obtained, the system board would need to be replaced.

Do keep one thing in mind, please. Discussion of passwords is a sensitive subject in the community. Generally limited to what's included in the hardware manuals for any given machine. For the E330, please see:
https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/e330_e335_hmm_en_0b48602_04.pdf
Page 32 details password information.

Hope this helps to clarify.
Regards.

Hi all, I've tried to write the latest bios image (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-74279) for my Edge 13 to an usb stick, but somehow I cannot boot from it. That you're unable to boot from USB is because of an issue with the CD image. See this: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-11e-Windows-E-and-Edge/Updating-the-BIOS-via-bootable-USB/m-p/... on how to fix this. Would be nice if Lenovo supported BIOS upgrade via USB...

Hi, I recently bought a Thinkpad Edge E555. I replaced the HDD with my SSD. The problem is I get a Bluescreen when I start the system now. Error 0x0000007b. I read that I would be able to fix this if I set the SATA Controller to AHCI. The problem is in my BIOS I don't have the option to change the SATA Controller. I already upgraded the BIOS from the Support via CD Rom but there is still no option to change SATA Controller who can help me out ?

Hello everyone, My notebook is of Model Thinkpad Edge 15 with only 2GB of RAM(Samsung DDR3 1333 MHz) which has two memory slots and the memory is expandable to 8GB as per Lenovo specifications. I decided to increase the RAM and got a 4GB Kingstone ValueRAM of 1333 MHz. But when I reboot the notebook after installing the RAM, the laptop just freezes at the beginning of the boot process and shows a dark screen only. I'm confused what I' doing wrong. Do I have to upgrade my BIOS...?Any help would be appreciated.... Regards,

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga 11e - BSOD when updating BIOS from Windows

Does Windows create an DMP (or MDMP) file after the BSOD?
If so, can you zip it up and put it on dropbox/onedrive/etc so I can take a look?
I have heard of a similar issue previously (on a different system) and it was caused by AV/security software.

I have been trying to update my nearly year old Twist's BIOS since I have been having issues with random screen autorotation, and I also have the 5 beeps, pause, 5 beeps issue at boot up (it otherwise boots fine). When I run the Lenovo Flash BIOS Utility, either on its own or from within System Update, it cannot read the BIOS and eventually aborts. I downloaded the Bootable CD version, burned the ISO to first a USB flash drive and later a conventional CD, and neither worked.  I did reset the BIOS settings to legacy mode and turned Secure Boot off, and changed the boot order in order to get it to boot to the right media.  My system is trying to boot from the media as configured but is stating it is not bootable.  I followed the instructions on Lenovo's official drivers page to ensure I was doing it correctly. I'm currently running BIOS version 1.53 and Windows 8.1 Pro Preview. Any ideas?

Answer:Problems updating BIOS in Thinkpad Twist (s230u)

Solved the 5 beep issue by disabling the security chip in the BIOS. Still can't update the BIOS. I'm having issues with random screen autorotation, usually but not always in tablet mode, so I would like to update the BIOS. I'm getting Error 216 - can't read the BIOS. Anyone?

Hello, I am running into trouble trying to access any menu option in the BIOS for my E520 to enable 64-bit virtualization (both VMware and VirtualBox) and therefore I cannot install 64-bit guests on my Windows 7 Professional host machine. The BIOS I am currently running is the one the machine was shipped with (8HET38WW 1.20 9/9/2011 - though Lenovo online documentation lists a date a couple weeks later, but whatever) and reading through the BIOS updates released since then I see no option being added that addresses enabling 64-bit virtualization to justify an update of my BIOS (which I'd rather do as a last resort as everything else runs just fine). Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions as to how I might enable 64-bit virtualization on my ThinkPad Edge E520? Any help would be much appreciated.

Answer:Cannot enable 64-bit (VTx) virtualization in BIOS of my ThinkPad Edge E520

I don't have an Edge machine, but I know for the other late model ThinkPads they put the virtualization settings in the Security area of the BIOS.

Hi...I have E130 with 0% battery (can't be charged anymore). I have bought a new battery but can't use. When I plugged it (with a power source plugged as well), and I try to to turn it on, it worked. But not so long after the windows logon screen displayed (I use Windows 7), then it turn off again and cannot turn on anymore, unless I unplug the power outlet first. I try to changed with the old battery again and there's no problem (with the power source plugged, of course). I try to update the BIOS, but since my battery level is 0%) it cannot be done (always rejected). Is there anyone can help to solve my problem, please? Thanks.

Hello, I upgraded BIOS to the latest 1.15 (for my Edge 13 type 0217) and I have upgraded my drive to SSD V300. Everything was working smooth with my newly fresh Windows 7 64bits installation. Then the laptop was hibernated for one day on battery which ran out. I was not able to start the laptop, until I removed the battery and unplugged AC. Now it looks like something happened in the BIOS because: - fan is running full speed all the time- Windows is booting slowly (there is 10 seconds delay before I see the Windows logo, then it goes fine)- when I turn off the laptop, everything turns off but fan is going full speed and LED indicates its turned on (I need to hold the power button 10 secs to turn off hard) I tried to disable Windows hibernate feature and removed the hibfil.sys file. Did not help. Something bad had to happen in BIOS when battery fully discharged. I tried to load BIOS defaults. Did not help. Anyone?

Answer:After BIOS update on ThinkPad Edge 13 (0217) fan not stopping

I tried to boot Linux from CDROM and the 10-15 secs delay (before I see SYSLINUX loader) is there, so this is a BIOS issue and not Windows 7 issue. It was working fine, until I hibernated the computer. Maybe BIOS thinks it should be resuming before it realizes it is not hibernated anymore. What can I do?

I have a Lenovo Think Pad Edge 15 I bought on Ebay It's an old charter school laptop. I need to reset the supervisor password there was not one provided... Any help would be great!

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 15 BIOS Password Reset

Good day and welcome to the community.

There's no reset procedure for the BIOS supervisor password. In order to remove it, one needs to have the existing password. If it is not available to you, you'll need to contact Service (info below) to discuss any options you might have.

For reference, pages 40-42 of the hardware manual: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/75y4302_05.pdf
describe the 3 hardware passwords of your ThinkPad.

Hope this helps clarify.
Regards.

I have gone through and installed the different wireless drivers on the lenovo support website. I have gone through several steps of similar problems others have had but it hasn't made a difference. I have installed: HotKeys & patchPower manager & driverChipsetThe realtek network -ethernet adapter and communications LAN driverI have installed and removed each wireless adapter available Thinkpad Edge 15Type: 0319-46U On a side note in the Device manager screen there is a "Network Controller" alert saying no driver installed for this device. I recently fully restored my Windows 10 Pro on my tx1c5 (kabylake 20HQ).I was installing new drivers and charging at once. The fan was pretty loud so decided to install BIOS Update Utility ver 1.22.It helped however when laptop turned on it stopped charging.I installed other recommended drivers from lenovo site (like power management or thuderbolt ones) but none of them worked. I didn't install drivers from sections Enterprise Management and responsible for storage. Should I?Then tried to restore system once again, but windows won't allow me without connected AC. System recovery doesn't work as well. Also, tried to look in BIOS settings, but unfortunetly couldn't found anything that would help.I don't think it is a charger problem becouse it is quite new, and the problem appeared just after BIOS update.I have 50% battery left and don't know what to do when it will be gone to 0 .I will add that both usb-c ports don't work. Can't test them with external storege, becouse i have none.Do You have any ideas? The recent BIOS update (version 2.54) which has been released to fix fan issues with the system, does not have a corresponding Bootable CD available. Hello! I'm a proud owner of a Lenovo thinkpad edge e125, with an AMD E-450 (with Radeon hd 6320).I have the latest BIOS for my laptop (1.18), but i really miss the option of setting the allocated video memory of the video card.  I'm planning on buying additional RAM, so i would like to be able to increase the video memory size (currently it's 384 mb), i would benefit from that in both games, and in my current OpenCL development projects. Is there any chance, that this option will be included in one of the later BIOS updates?  Kind regards,A thinkpad edge user.

Hi guys,  I would like to ask a question about re-flashing latest BIOS on my Edge E520 1143-37G laptop. At the moment I am using version 8HET41WW (1.23) - from 13.1.2012. I updated it to the 8HET43WW (1.25) few days ago, but I had a problems with entering Boot order menu by pressing "Enter" - it didn't work and it booted directly to Windows 7. I had another problems like - asking for a password at reboot (and I have set it to not to ask for it at reboot in BIOS menu) and few other problem. So yesterday I re-flash it back to the older version 8HET41WW (1.23) but problems persist.  Is there a way to manually reflash it with winflash.exe, please? And what should I choose in "Specify new BIOS file" in winflash.exe? Is it file "$0A8H000.FL1" from "8HET43WW" folder? And in "Advanced" option of winflash.exe, what flags should I check? Thank you for your replies. Regards,Dan

Hello, I am looking for a little bit of help. I have a Lenovo Edge 15 0319-46U laptop I recieved from my educational institution. I have had the laptop since fall of 2012. I've never had a single issue with the laptop except a month ago I noticed my wireless 1x1 b/g/n card stopped working. I'm well knoledged in computers and have already tried updating the drivers but I ran into an issue. My wireless card is no longer being shown on the Device Manager list under Network Adapters or "Unknown Devices", I only see my Wired gigabit card. I went into Bios, checked the button (did all the begginer stuff) and no dice. Wireless still does not work. I went ahead and ordered a new Intel Wireless card for said laptop and made sure the interface worked correctly, so my question is does anyone know of any fixes that could work even if the adapter is not shown on anywhere in the computer? And would anyone know if the Intel 7260-HMWNBWB Dual band card would be compatible with this machine? Thanks in advance for an answer.

Answer:Thinkpad Edge 15 0319-46U wireless problems

Hello and welcome,

The ThinkPad BIOS has a wifi whitelist.  A card has to be a whitelisted model and have a Lenovo FRU number or the laptop will refuse to boot.  Generic cards - even with the correct model number - won't boot on an unmodified BIOS.

Page 113 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual  lists the compatible models and FRU numbers.

Hi, nicholas89

How was your machine reformatted? Did you reinstall Windows with recovery media?

You can try, if you haven't already, to update the drivers from Device Manager. If you right-click on the device in question, select Properties, and then click the Driver tab, there should be a button for update driver. Also, I would make sure that your BIOS is up to date. The latest version for your system can be found here.

Best of luck, and let me know how it goes

I just picked up an Edge 14 and had to reset it from Windows 7 x64 to  Windows 7 x32.  All the drivers have picked up except for the wireless driver.   The technical specs list the wireless card as Wireless NIC: ThinkPad 11 b/g/n so in theory it should be this driver: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS000979 but Windows says that the driver is incorrect.  I've checked the BIOS and the wireless card is enabled and F9 also shows that the wireless is enabled.  I've tried the rest of the drivers in the matrix in case I had the wrong one but none of them worked either.  Any ideas?

In Device manager the network card is still unidentified. From what I've seen all the lenovo drivers are for Intel cards but Everest tells me the network card is a Realtek PCIe BGE family card. I've also installed the drivers from Realtek but still nothing. The network card is enabled in BIOS and I've tried the Fn wireless switch to no aval. Any ideas? Thanks

I had to do a fresh install of windows 7 professional.  Everything is working aside from the wireless connection.  I've downloaded each wireless driver and still the issue persists.  I can see the connection being broadcasted, upon entering the password to connect I only get "windows was unable to connect to xxx". I can connect to this wireless point from my phone and my other laptop plus no one else in the office is having this issue.  Only on this Thinkpad am I having the problem. If I try to use the Intel PROSet/Wireless Tools diagnostics I get a FAILED-Wireless Hardware is not bound to transport driver.  I've tried everything at this point with no luck.  The LAN works fine of course but I need the Wireless to work.  Thanks

This laptop has a 1x1 11bgn lan card in it and I'm only getting from 24 to 48 mbps.  How can I get to connect at higher rates. Thanks,  Jerry

Answer:e520 thinkpad edge low wireless mbps

It depends on how close you are to the router and how strong the connection is. If you're far away or there's a lot of interference, the connection speed will automatically drop to ensure data integrity. You may want to see if your access point is operating in 802.11g mode.

I just purchased a Thinkpad Edge E530c 33662UU Laptop.  I have had it for one day now and it will not connect to my wireless network.   My wife is currently online with her laptop so the router is working (although I did reset it anyhow).  I ran troubleshoot and it didn't fix anything.  My network is showing up under available networks and it says I'm connected.  But it also says no internet access.  Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Answer:Thinkpad Edge Wireless connectivity issue

Hi, trevclark

I have a few questions that will help in resolving this issue:

What operating system are you running? Also, what computer and operating system is your wife using? What type of router are you using?

Also, I would recommend making sure all the drivers and software for your machine is up to date, which can all be found here.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Answer:Problem updating Thinkpad wireless driver on x100e

Hello,

It sounds like the update requires higher privileges to install than are currently available under the logged-in user's account.

Try going to the C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLANRLTK\ directory, right-clicking on the SETUP.EXE file, selecting Run as administrator from the popup context menu, and then accepting the User Account Control prompt to allow the software to install.

Does that make any difference?

Hi,I purchased a Thinkpad Edge 14 ~1 year ago and it's been a good notebook overall. However there is one problem that's been bothering me for quite some time.Around every 20-30 minutes it loses connection to the internet (wireless), then around 10 seconds later it refreshes and regains connection automatically. Does anyone know what is causing this problem, and can anyone suggest a fix? It has integrated wifi/lan adapters (ThinkPad Wireless BGN). Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, This is my first time posting and I'm hoping someone can help me resolve a strange issue I am having with my wireless connection on my Thinkpad edge.   Basically what happends is I cannot connect to my router unless I set up a network ONLY from my computer.  It will not work if the network is configured on another laptop in the house.   This is all well and good and I am able to connect when I do this but randomly every few days OR when I reboot or boot up from sleep mode I am unable to connect to the network that I set up on my computer.  Every other device in the house is able to connect to the router network that I configured on my computer. Every time this happens I have to reset the router.  I reset back to stock router settings with the NETGEAR SSID and no security and I am unable to connect and everyone else is still able to connect.  Thus I have to set up the network exactly the way it was before so all the other devices in the house won't have to keep changing their information just to connect to the internet.   I have tried updating the adapter drivers and that did not work and sometimes randomly I am able to connect to the stock NETGEAR SSID but this seldom lasts long and I have to go and reconfigure the network again the way it was.  While I have internet and I have found a temporary fix to this problem I would love to get rid of it all together as it is a pain and it seems to be happening more f... Hi, I recently bought a 300Mbps Wireless N Router (TP-Link TL-WR841ND), but I only get 72 Mbps speed on my Thinkpad E430 laptop. As far as I read, the 1x1 11b/g/n Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter only supports speeds up to 150 Mbps (which would still be ok with me), but instead I get 72 Mbps. I tried to tweak the adapter and router settings, but I had no luck. Do I need to change the Wireless adapter? Is it possible to change it, or should I use an external USB Wireless adapter instead? Thank you!

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E430 Wireless speed only 72Mbps

Hi Tudorc,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I would suggest you to check if any other similar device is able to achieve better speeds.

Log to the router's configuration utility by typing its IP address into a browser and change the encryption settings to WPA2 Encryption Only. Choose 40MHz-wide channels in the router?s configuration utility.

Since you are using a 1x1 single-stream card, so a max of 150Mbps is theoretically said to achieve. In addition, you are only on the 2.4GHz band, which is often congested, so you may see lower speeds. The disparity between theoretical and practical Wi-Fi performance comes from network protocol overhead, radio interference, physical obstructions on the line of sight between devices, and distance between devices. Under ideal conditions, actual results for a wireless adapter rated at 150Mbps is perhaps in the range of 50-80Mbps.

Hope this provided enough clarity for your query!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hello, I've recently bought the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E545 (about a week old) and everything is fine, except the problem is that the wireless download speed & connection is terrible slow. I've done speedtests and resulted in a 1mbps--or barely-- download speed. I updated the drivers, the network adapter, etc. and I have successfully updated the important Windows updates. It's currently Windows 7 and the current network adapter is 1x1 11b/g/n Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter. There is no problem with the router and no internet speed upgrade is required. I tested connections and done speedtests with other computers and devices on the same connection and their speed is significantly greater than the ThinkPad's. I assure you nothing is wrong with the router or connection area and I have some confidence that it is a hardware problem with the Wireless card. Is there any solution to this problem that does not require me to install another network adapter? I looked around and used Google and tried different methods but they don't seem to work. Thank you in advance.

Answer:ThinkPad Edge E545 - Weak Wireless Connection

I set up an account just to reply to you!...and also I just bought a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E545, and I want everyone to know what they're doing.  Plus, I'm having the same problem.  I just downloaded the Broadcom Wireless LAN (Driver here! Remember to choose for either Windows XP, 8, 8.1, or whatever you have!) and I've seen past comments that this has worked for them.  I'm about to go try it out, so wish me luck!  I hope you haven't returned that laptop you bought!  Lenovo is usually such a good brand, from what I hear, and I personally already enjoy the exterior, as I put structure, stability, and damage-resistant against style, which the Edge E545 seems to be more for the accident prone or careful type, but still cool!  Good luck!

Ok, so here is the situation: We just change our AD Domain and the user was able to get into their new account. The user uses the finger print scanner to auto enter the bios supervisor password and auto login to their account. They used the Lenovo fingerprint software to update their Windows credentials, and now it wont pass the bios supervisor log in. They don't know what they set it to. What are our options? I tried calling support and they shut down on giving me any information once they got the serial and saw it was out of warranty. I wasn't expecting them to fix it right there, but I couldn't even get them to tell me my options, IE do I need to pay for support, r a document give my option or anything. If anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated. Also I think it has a password on the hard drive, so even getting the data off will be an issue I think.

Hi, I have an uncommon problem. Usualy people have troubles to get their devices working, mine is working to well... I got a wonderful Thinkpad S540, working very well from scratch under the last Ubuntu 14.10I went to the BIOS to disable all the devices I don't need like WAN, Bluetooth, camera AND MICROPHONE ! But this last one doesn't want to leave from my configuration. And it is VERY sensitive and powerfull, I've tested it a bit at work, at home and I manage to catch conversation very far away from my place with the microphone with simple software like arecord, example : arecord -D default -f cd toto.wavnext, try :vlc toto.wav you will be upset by the high quality of the record. I made some test, the entire metal LCD panel is used "as" microphone amplifier. I tried to cover the mutiple holes at the top of the LCD panel, it still works Great... The problem is : I would like to switch it off... I flashed the last BIOS Revision: 1.63I disabled the microphone in the BIOS, I restart 5 times, with and without the AC adaptater, it doesn't change anything... Does someone know how to switch microphone off for real ?Is it a Bug in the BIOS ?Can we have some support contact to get a new working BIOS release ? Regard's

Hi,
We deployed 10 Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E530 (M/N   MP1ZPZA) laptops for a new customer installation.
All systems are running Windows 7 64-bit Professional
The laptops are connected wireless in a Windows Server 2008R2 domain.
We have noticed some slow connectivity issues.
Multiple access points were tested but still had the same issue.
Whenever we ping a workstation the response time is over 800 milliseconds.
I updated the drivers using Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools and I didn?t get any improvement.  Because the wireless adapter is Intel, I installed the latest drivers provided by Intel but the result was the same.
I found that after running Intel WiDi application on any laptop the Ping response time for that workstation will temporarily decrease to less than 5ms (a normal timing range)
A couple of HP laptops were added to the domain for testing but did not experience the same issue with the ping response.
A case was opened with Lenovo technical support (Case#902B6YJ).
After talking with Lorenzo, Ray and Alfonso from Lenovo support the conclusion was that is an engeneering problem  and they suggested us to address the issue to this forum.
Has any else experienced this type of issue?

Hi, I purchased my Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 14 0578-A99 a week ago. My wireless internet works intermittently. It detects my wireless network properly, but fails to connect. Then suddenly, after a lot of refreshing/connecting/disconnecting it starts working. I have another Dell laptop on which it connects instantly (indicating that there is nothing wrong with the wireless router). Also, there is one icon for Intel WiFi, and one icon for Wireless Networks on my taskbar. I donot know if these are different, and which one should I enable. Is there any driver which I need to update, or is there anything I am not doing correctly to connect to wireless? Regards,Anish

Answer:Wireless internet working intermittently on Thinkpad Edge 14 0578-A99

You might want to check your power settings in windows 7.   Control panel, power options, under your power plan click change plan settings.  Then change advanced power settings, under wireless adapter settings,  power saving mode, make sure maximum performance is chosen for battery and plugged. Then also under control panel, device manager, network adapters, right click on your wireless adapter, properties, power management, uncheck, "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." FN-F5 should bring up a little window that will allow you to turn on or turn off wireless.   To connect to a network, i'm assuming that you are using windows to control your wireless.  click the bar one and open network and sharing center and connect from there. Another thing that you can do is run Thinkvantage system update and make sure that your drivers are up to date.  If you find more than one, download and install it one at a time and reboot.  Don't do them all at once, sometimes that doesn't work so well. Let us know if any of this works for you.

Hello, I just ordered an E540 and it comes with an Intel 7260-N (not AC) mPCIE and it also has an unpopulated M.2 (NGFF) slot presumably for an mSATA cache option. My question is this, can I replace the wireless card with the 802.11AC equivalent? Reading online that replacing the wireless card can cause boot error, but I'm almost certain that I've seen this card (7260-AC) available as configuration option so...? I'd also like to add an mSATA drive to store my OS on and use a 1TB HDD for media (instead of using SSD then using ODD caddy for 1TB HDD, thus losing optical drive).I know that I can add an mSATA card, but where can I buy one? NGFF is fairly new so no one is selling it, and the ones that are have low capacities for high prices. Thanks, Danz207

NGFF is fairly new so no one is selling it, and the ones that are have low capacities for high prices.Note that mSATA and NGFF (now referred to as M.2) are not the same thing.  M.2 cards have a different connector and can be wired for SATA, PCIe or both.  Your laptop has the M.2 SSD slot wired for SATA, so you'll need to look at M.2 SATA SSD's, not PCIe ones.  Whether or not your machine can boot from the M.2 SSD slot will probably be a case of trial and error given that Lenovo only recommend using the M.2 slot for caching. As for available M.2 SSD products, the appropriate one depends on the available space you have.  I couldn't see which length M.2 SSD's could be used in the hardware owners manual for the E540.  However, generally the shortest is going to be 42mm, also known as 2242.  Currently the only product in that length is the MyDigitalSSD 128GB M.2 SATA SSD.  If the slot is longer, up to 80mm, then that opens up the Crucial M500/M550 M.2 SATA (2280) SSD's as an option, which are available in 120/128/240/256/480/512GB capacities.   The Crucial M500 M.2's are available all over the place.  We are still waiting on Crucial getting the M550 M.2 into regular pro...
