edge type 0197 temperature shutdown

Question: edge type 0197 temperature shutdown

Hi i have a lenovo edge 13" type 0197 with i3 processor. It has 3 years now and it is bee almost 6 months that it keeps shutting down for over temperature protection. I changed thermal pasta and even used a strongest fan. Nothing changed. It actually worked for some weeks then same issue. It stays on from 5 to 15 minutes then it shuts down. Any suggestions to solve this problems. Is it a motherboard problem or something concerning the temperature sensore? Im about to throw it out the window...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello all, My ThinkPad had some overheat shutdown before, but usually after some minutes rest, it could be started again. (The shutdown mostly occured during big java appelts running or some bwrosergames.) Yesterday it shutdown due to overheating, I guess as it was very hot again. However I cannot power on it anymore. There is no peep, just nothing happens after button pressed. I am not sure how to go on now, is there any safeguard in place which I have to reset or to replace ? I could not find anything simular in the forum, but please correct me if I am wrong and point me to the thread. Thanks and kind regards, Eric

laptop is 4 years old and time to replace, but in the meantime i'd like to see the screen to transfer files and such.  the screen fails when waking up and if i do a hard reboot and remove battery the screen will come back after a hardware check.   but soon it fails again. last night i reseated both memory modules and it started up ok, but later when leaving it unattended the screen went blank again (sleeping). if i am able to get in again i'll change all the power settings to not sleep the screen.   i've already done all the lenovo updates and scans and what not. is there any fix here?  maybe replace original memory module? greg

hy, i have this wierd error. I just installed new SSD in HDD bay. installed windows and stuff works great. Now after 2 days i experienced this strange error at start. Long loading, than saying "no operating system found". After restart everything works great again. This error happens only if laptop is in sleep mode or shut down for a longer time (+1hour). If you only reboot or shut down for smaller period of time it boots up in no-time. http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS001173the problem is i this drivers. If i delete them and install general drivers provided with windows (standard ahci 1.0 serial ata controller) all works fine. Now plz tell me where to get proper AMD AHCI drivers for Lenovo Edge E13 (0197-6GG) thank you, br

Hi, I just received the Intel version of the Edge. It is a great Notebook (especially keyboard and trackpoint are great and were the reasons I chose this over other CULV Laptops) but there is one thing that really bothers me to the point of thinking to return it: I bought it for use on the lap but it runs quite warm on the left side (palm rest and below). It's not unbearable but I still don't get it. I used a Macbook Pro 13 which has a more powerful CPU and a dedicated GPU and never enables the fan in idle mode and still is MUCH cooler! What's wrong there? I managed to get it to run cooler by using ThinkPad Fan Control but it only recognizes about 3 different settings and they are all quite noisy. Is this a problem of the fan or a driver problem? I guess, if it is possible that a driver / BIOS update will enable a slow and not noisy running of the fan that will cool the Laptop down, I could live with it but at the moment it is easy noisy and slightly warm or silent and too warm. I guess, they didn't optimize the design for cool running... Any ideas? If there's not hope, I will consider returning it (I still can), although I'd hate to! I really didn't expect this from a Thinkpad... Tobias

Answer:Temperature on the Edge

Hopefully someone has  a solution for this.....one of my biggest problems with notebooks is heat...  I haven't received mine yet so I might have to reconsider if this is a none issue with the Edge.

I bought a Thinkpad Edge e545 in December, and I recently started monitoring the system temperatures. I noticed that the CPU temp would range anywhere from 85-110 degrees Celsius, which is hotter than past laptops that I have had. Has anyone else noticed unusually high CPU temps on this model? and if so, is there anything that can be done to make it run cooler?

Answer:Thinkpad Edge e545 CPU temperature

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E545 is overheating.

If your laptop feels hot and shows any of the problems below, chances are its overheating or getting there:

Fan constantly running and making loud whirring noises
Computer struggling to perform basic tasks like opening a new browser window
Mysterious error messages popping up in random programs
Lines on your laptop screen (a sign your video card is overheating)
System freezing or the dreaded BSOD (blue screen of death)
The laptop abruptly shuts down on its own

Optimal operating temperature is 50° Celsius (122° Fahrenheit) or below during normal operation of the device. Use dust remover spray to clean out of the laptop's vents. Dust can accumulate in and block the laptop's fan vents. Start using compatible cooling pads which will help in the flow of cool air into the underside vents of the laptop. Keep your working environment or computer room as comfortably cool as possible.

Hope this helps!

Best Regards,
Mithun.

Hi all, recently I bought Lenovo Thinkpad 13 EDGE laptop with a AMD Turion x2 1.5 GHz CPU, before I bought it I read some reviews considering high temperatures of this cpu so that didn't scare me much. However the temperature of my Turion CPU is about 70-83C when I'm browsing and doing some work stuff. When I tried playing Dragon Age it got up to 95C. The question is:1. What is the maximum high temperature for it, and can it be reached when playing a heavy 3D games for a long time(like 3 or more hours)?2. How can such high CPU temperature influence laptop stability and long worklife?3. Should I be worried about this, and install some crazy cooling software and sensor monitors to check it's OK))?

Hi there, one day my powersupply fan started to make this rattling noise and then one day the whole pc shut down. I replaced the power supply, but the problem is still occurring. The computer would boot for around 20 seconds then shut down randomly. I quickly went into BIOS- Power- Hardware Management, and saw that my CPU temperature was increasing from around 32C to 53C before shutting down on its own immediately after reaching exactly 52 degrees. Does this mean their is a problem with my CPU cooling? Somebody also mentioned that i need to replace the "thermal paste". Sorry for my lack of knowledge of this subject, but does anyone understand what the problem could be? Thanks Alot!

I have a video if it helps, but i did this video with the starting temperature already quite high so it shut down much quicker.

Answer:CPU Temperature Causing Shutdown

hmm sounds like you might have the temp warning set to 52c because cpus dont usually shut down till around high 70c. your heat sink fan may have died too so might open it up and see if thats the case will have to buy a new one.

I have just installed a new motherboard and CPU;
Gigabyte GA-K8NS Ultra 939 motherboard
AMD Athlon 64, 3200+ (2 GHz socket 939) processor in a box with heat sink and fan
2x256MB DDR 266
1x 40GB Hard disk
1x 120GB Hard disk
Geforce FX 5200
Soundblaster live! 5.1

Since the install of the new motherboard and processor the system keeps shutting down due to high processor temperature whenever it is worked hard. PC health check in the bios reports 18-20 C just after start up, after windows has loaded the gigabyte easytune software reports a steady 38-42 C doing nothing, but this easytune software wants to update itself on startup. If I allow this it gets 5 or 10 minutes in to the downloading procedure then the PC powers off (no shutdown, just like pulling out the power cable!). If I restart immediately and check PC health check in the bios it shows 69C. I tried again and opened windows task manager which shows 100% processor usage constantly during this updating procedure (gigabyte easytune software glitch?) which i assume caused the temperature to rise so much.
Since then I have tried to format the 40GB hard disk, but the PC shut down a few minutes in to the format and again showed 68-69 C immediately after when I rebooted.
I have felt the processor heat sink while this was happening and cant believe that it was as hot as 70 C. I have even removed the heat sink, cleaned off the thermal paste I had applied 3 or 4 days earlier (imprint on the heat sink was perfect), appl... Read more

my profile specs have changed, my imedia pb died , but thats not the issue, My now mobo is microstar 6738 , and the cpu is AMD athlon xp 2400+ ive added a program pc4 alert , whats a good safe max temp to set the alert at ? currently the the cpu is running at between 49 and 51 degrees celcius ?

Answer:Temperature alert and shutdown

I would set it at 60 or just above. That temp won't hurt anything but over the long haul it will shorten the life of the processor. You want to know about temperature issues before it gets to the point where the system starts running flaky

Dear community
I have a Dell XPS 13 9350 model with the latest BIOS & GPU drivers that I downloaded directly from dell's website, lately I have noticed that the fan is not spinning when I turned on the laptop until some minutes later "until the laptop reach a critical temperature " and the the fan would run at maximum speed and the laptop will shut down I replaced the thermal paste but this would only delay the problem, I preform the a bios diagnosis and nothing is not normal even when fan check starts the fan would start for the test and then it will stop, today I was unable to start my laptop, Everytime I turn it on the fan would spin at maximum speed and the laptop will shutdown after less than a minute I did a BIOS diagnosis and finally I get an error  about the thermal sensor as shown in the attached picture, would you kindly help me to resolve this problem . Thanks in advance .

Answer:Critical temperature shutdown

The thermistor is a temperature sensor.  Replace the system fan - that should solve the problem.

I've had this happen a few times and it's starting to really scare me. I have closed my lid and packed my laptop into my bag and when I open my bag an hour later, my laptop is running super hot and has almost started a fire. Every time I thought it had gone to sleep correctly (but I can't be sure). When this happens, the fans are running but the machine will not wake up. When I click the power button, it eventually turns off. I expected there to be some internal monitoring software that detects the high temp and turns things off but this does not seem to be the case.Any ideas? It's a w520.

Answer:Shutdown & temperature problem

- Ensure in Power manager that the wake timers are disabled.- Ensure in device managers that USB and LAN does not wake the laptop- If you have a wireless mouse on connected to the USB port, ensure that the wireless mouse is turned off before putting into the bag (happened to me once... disabled USB to wake the device solve the issue)

Hi all,I am running an Intel Atom motherboard E74516-001. It is one of the early 64 bit dual-core Atoms with low power consumption, and no fan required - just has a large heatsink.Today, after a couple of years of running fine, it just decided it is not going to boot. I was able to get into BIOS a couple of times and the hardware monitor says it is running at about 33 degrees Celcius, which to me does not seem to be hot enough to be triggering a shutdown, but when I try to boot Windows it always shuts down within a few seconds with an error saying that the thermal protection has been tripped. Now it won't even stay on long enough to get into BIOS before shutting down.Is there any hope for this motherboard, or is it to the recycle bin for this one? Thanks!

Answer:Thermal Shutdown with normal temperature

No. Rather that junk it - ruin it!I mean that if you are going to toss it, take a chance and try to  fix it. Locate the thermal shutdown sensor and replace it with something. But if the sensor is in the CPU, you can't fix it.What did you use for thermal compound? If you used toothpaste,iIt has to be replaced every three years.

How did you notice that the unit shuts down just on 30 ?C? As far as I know this ?overheating protect mechanism? is temperature indicator placed on the mainboard and it is not possible any kind of ?manipulation?.

I want a program that will monitor my CPU temps and shutdown at 70 degrees. I have used Motherboard Monitor but I don't like that you have install a 3rd part application to get it to do so. Is there a single program or do I have to keep running 2?

I don't know of one, but have you checked to see if the motherboard manufacturer has one? One came with my MSI K7D that was pretty fancy, but I don't remember if it did that.

Hi, I have tried running Crysis and other games on my Y460 which was bought just a few days ago. But having tried for only roughly 30 minutes on Crysis, the laptop just auto shutdown by itself. This is pretty shocking as the previous laptops I have owned (which were also meant for gaming too), does not have this issue of auto shutting down before. I also find that the laptop tends to get heated up easily even if i'm used the intel graphics (power saving mode). Because this laptop has a laptop gaming specs, it seems contradicting to actually auto shutdown due to overheating so as to protect the hardware, which in this case, also seems to be restricting me to play games in a normal room temperature.  Is the overheat issue due to faulty hardware or is it simply a limit set by Lenovo? If its a limit, are there ways to resolve it? (for instance, increasing fan speed, or removing the restriction etc) Thanks in advance.

I've got a new Edge 2 1580.  Everything was good for the first week or so.  I haven't been shutting it down, I've just been letting it go to sleep/hibernate.  Last night I picked it up and noticed that the fan was running.  Upon opening it, I was unable to log in, but couldn't figure out why.  I switched to the onscreen keyboard and was able to log in.  The mouse/trackpad wasn't responding at all.  I opened Chrome and attempted to search for something and realized that no matter what key I pressed on the keyboard, all it would type was 6's.  (which would explain why my password was incorrect). I decided to reboot the laptop and see what would happen, but it doesn't appear to actually shut down.  Even when I click Shut down (well tap on the screen) - the screen goes dark, power button continues to blink slowly. This is a brand new laptop, and my first experience with Lenovo - but it's about to go back to the store.  I can't even find much information about the Edge 2 1580 at all, almost like it's a really out of date machine - but it's got the brand new chipset that was just introduced in November, and it came pre-installed with Windows 10, so it can't be that old. Makes me want to fire up my 9 year old Dell D620 running Windows XP - it still works perfectly.

Hi guys, I've bought a second hand Lenovo Edge 71 Type 1578 recently and the system came without RAM, HDD or an OS. I want to use it as a bit of a media pc and have it permanantley connected to my TV. I've installed 8GB of RAM and I'm using a 3.5" mounting bracket to install a 2.5" HDD from my laptop which has my Windows 7 OS. I am possibly looking at replacing this HDD with a 128GB SSD just to run the OS and any other programs but the mounting bracket is dual and can hold two 2.5" drives within the 3.5" bay. I have ordered an Orico 1105ss internal drive bay to replace the DVD re-writer with hot swappable 3.5" drives. Lastly I intend to add a low end graphics card, something similar to either a 1GB GeForce 210 or Radeon 5450 card. Having planned all this I've noticed that the PSU is only a 180W unit and I don't think this will be sufficent to cope with my new configuration. Just to recap, I may have 2 x 2.5" HDD, a hot swappable 3.5" drive, a basic raphics card and 8GB of Ram. So my question is, how easy is it to upgrade the PSU? Are there any constraints or possible problems awaiting to derail my plans of upgrading the PSU? And does anyone now of a reasonably priced PSU that would work well and fit in well into my Tower? Anyone point me the direction of a guide or a good practice guide would be great  Thanks

I'm interested in thickness of HDD in E130. I read that in E125 was 7 mm HDD and there is troubles with 9 mm. So, is  E130 similar to E125(E130 is next-gen of this type netbooks, but there is huge posibility that Lenovo Engineers decided not to change HDD type)? Or 9 mm hard drive will work? Installing msata breaks warranty agreement, doesn't it? And i have some, maybe, obvious questions amout msata SSD(i've read about installing SSD in other Thinkpad notebooks), but I need some proves for Edge E130:1)Speed is limited by SATAII interface?2)mSata drive as bootable device will work?Last questions are not such important, but i'll happy, if Edge E130/E135 users will share their experience

Answer:Type of HDD in Edge E130 and question about msata SSD

I bought the E130 as a travel computer, so I didn't have to travel with my X220T - which is a tank compared to this little fellow. I have the 3358-8dg model of the e130 (came with free-dos but I bought an extra 4GB Ram to up the total to 8GB). The HDD is the usual 7mm think ones as expected.

I've had my e130 for 2 days now and I removed the HDD it shipped with and installed a 64GB mSata instead.

I then installed Win7 with SP1 from a USB in UEFI mode (see this thread: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-7-Discussion/Prepare-an-usb-thumb-drive-to-boot-windows-7-or-8-i... - installed Lenovo System Update 5 and installed all drivers and software along with all windows updates.

So, running only an mSata HD and booting from it is not a problem at all.

My windows experience index is 4.9 due to the Graphics: Desktop performance for Windows Aero.

The HD transfer rate is 7.9.

The exact model of the mSata SSD I installed is: Crucial m4 SSD 64GB, mSATA 6Gb/s (CT064M4SSD3)

I hope this helps.

I'm sorry about that long unpunctuated paragraph..unfortunately as this forum does not permit previews of posts, one cannot tell how it will turn out. I have just tried re-pasting the whole posting into the form, and it looks fine pre-submition. It obviously gets de-formatted along the way?PcB (aka Kalitechnis)

I've installed win 7, but finding the right drivers for my computer is like looking for a needle in a haystack. I think I installed most of the drivers available for wifi from the support page, but no luck what so ever. Can anyone help me with a link or the name(s) on drivers I need for my Lenovo thinkpad 0197?

Answer:Wifi drivers for Lenovo 0197

Hello and welcome,

Have you installed ThinkVantage System Update?  It should be able to pull down the correct drivers for your system.

ThinkPad Edge 11, Laptop 11.6" screen Intel Celeron U3400 @1.07GHz
On the plate underneath the laptop, it says : type 0328-A11 s/n xxxxx   11/01  Product ID 0328A11

I reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate, and while most things are working, Wifi is not. In the Device Manager there are 3 devices with a yellow flag, a Network Controller, A PCI Simple Communication Controler and an Other device, and I am guessing they are the devices that make Wifi work. If I try to do a driver update for them, the result is 'no driver found', so I want to download appropriate drivers from Lenovo.

When I 'search by product name, serial number, machine type' on the Lenovo site using any of the above info from the plate underneath the laptop, the Lenovo site always says 'Sorry, no products were found that match that query'

I have downloaded and installed the Lenovo Service Bridge, and let it run for 8 hours (overnight) using Chrome browser. The screen says 'Please DO NOT close this page. It will close automatically when the process is complete'. Well, after 8 hours, my feeling is, it is not going to complete, so the Lenovo Service Bridge is not going to help me..

So, how do I get to the appropriate download page on the Lenovo website for my laptop so I can download the drivers ?

Good day.

Please visit the End-of-Life product support page: https://download.lenovo.com/eol/
Set the three dropdowns appropriately, and you'll see the driver matrix for your laptop.

Hope this helps.

Hi there

Edge has been modified so you CAN set it to access local host type of sites (at least in build 10240).

This was mentioned a while ago but just as a reminder -- many people have servers etc that have a web interface with a localhost or 127.x.x.x type of IP address to control them.

type about:flags into the URL area and then check the box.

This may have been posted before but that was some while ago -- just re-posting as a reminder for new users of EDGE.
You don't need to mess around with the registry anymore to get edge to access local host.

Cheers

Hi, My Problem: I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 15, which shuts down under greater stress. Initially, it was only in more demanding games like Portal 2, then it has spread to other games that I previously could easily play 2 hours, (eg Fallout, Skyrim). Meanwhile, it also shuts down on Facebookapps or HD-Movies. Process: While im playing or working on my Computer, all my Monitors (i have 2 of them) turn black and the computer is off. then the computer starts again and reports, that windows was not shut down properly. A failure report doesnt exist. All same Apllications are shutting down in the same way again and again.  What i have already done: I Cant imagine that the temperature is the problem. The laptop gets warm, but i can easaly touch it.All drivers are up to date and a hardware scan has revealed nothing. It would be gread if someone could explain the problem and give me a proper solution. Sincerely yoursFrost753

Answer:Thinkpad Edge 15 Shutdown

Hi, I can probably give you some hints on how to solve this (I'm on a W510) a) use a cooling-pad (you've probably expected that)b) for GAMES (actually Skyrim was the reason why I stumbled upon your post) use SW to 'underclock' your GPU.  In my case - Skyrim - underclocking the GPU solved ALL problems (and it IS a heating-problem). I use 'EVGA Precision X' (google it) to underclock. Funny thing is: I can play at higher res without lags, without crash. Reading your post I truly believe that you HAVE a heating problem.  My laptop never crashed, but Skyrim brought it down - like every 15 Minutes. I must say that the gpu/cpu/hd temperatures CAN be higher (eg. when re-encoding video ,...) without a crash  - but for some reason, that game brought my laptop down - even at lower temperatures.hope this helpsbest regards

Answer:Edge browser can't access LOCALHOST type of IP addresses (build 10122

Why do you keep creating new posts about this for every new release? This is not something that's going to change, it's an inherent security feature of Universal applications that they can't access localhost, and Edge is a Universal application.

I repeat. This isn't going to change.

I´m trying to Wake On Lan, and after some days thinking that don?t work, it works only 1 time. So start all process over again and don?t work. After repeat all steps, I realized that only works the first time you try to WOL after plug the power. If just shutdown from Windows 7 but not Unplug and re plug the power it will not WOL. If shutdown W7, unplug the power, plug the power and use any WOL, it works perfect every time. ¿Any idea to WOL without unplug and re plug the power? Thank you in advance

Hello, I am having some troubles with my Thinkpad Edge 15 (0302-47G), which is about 15 months old. Around 8 months ago Lenovo had to replace its hard disk. Everything was fine, until a couple of days ago the thinkpad started to randomly freeze and shutting down without warning and without  "any reason".There is no pattern when it switches itself off, sometimes it is ok for a couple of hours, sometimes it switches off during booting or 5 minutes afterwards. System restore, virus scan, and hard disk diagnostic didn't solve anything. Also I don't think it is because of overheating as the laptop is quite cold and the fan runs as before. Since the first shut down, I also get the following error message from time to time when starting up: WARNING 2200: Machine Type and Serial Number are invalid.2201: Machine UUID is invalid Did anybody experience the same problem? I would really appreciate any suggestions which might help solving the problem. Thank you very much! Fabian

I just replaced the motherboard in an Edge 15 and I'm attempting to update the model and serial number of the system by flashing the BIOS from a CD.  When I attempt to do so, I'm only allowed to enter the last three alphanumeric digits of the model number when prompted for that information.  The update completes and the laptop reboots but I still see the warning that the model type and serial number are invalid.  When I check the BIOS, it has been updated but the fields for the model and serial information are still blank.  How can I fix this?

Answer:Edge 15 - Can't update machine type or serial number when updating BIOS

If you are an authorised lenovo technician then you can get a maintenance diskette software from Lenovo. This is the only software that will achieve what you want.

I got an Edge 15 yesterday and it worked well for about 2 hours then it shut down abruptly. Between then and now it's been doing it more frequently. At first it happened every two hours, then every hour, then between 15-30 minutes, now every 5 minutes or so. I tried a factory reset and strangely, when it is resetting, it stays on for hours but once the reset is complete it goes right back to typical behavior. I have scoured this forum and a few others and none of the suggestions I have seen have helped me. When it shuts down, it is a hard power down that happens in about 1 second and I hear a click. It happens both while plugged in and while running on battery power. It runs on Windows 10, has 6GB RAM, and 1TB HDD. Please help me.

My W2K laptop hangs on shutdown after going through what must be most of the shutdown process. I've eliminated everything that shows in the Startup folder as being the app that is hanging, and I've cleared the task list before shutdown with the same result. Is there any way to prevent selected items from loading on startup (similar to MSCONFIG) without editing the registry? (WKWKST is asking the same question over here, darn I miss "Track this thread"!!) Or is there another way to determine the culprit application?

Answer:Shutdown problems / MSConfig type thing in W2K?

But you have to use a third party program called 'Startup Cop' for Win2K. It's not the greatest program (ugly), but it does the job. Worked for me.

Hello, I got an issue with my Thinkpad Edge 15 (Intel i5-430M;  Realtek PCIe GBE Network Controller, Windows 7 64-bit).If I wake up the Laptop by Wake on Lan (WOL Magic Package) it starts normally. When shutting down the machine it restarts instead of switching off once. This even happens if I disconnect the LAN-cable in the meantime. Let me describe step-by-step:LAN-cable and AC adapter are plugged inNotebook is switched on by wake on LANLAN-cable is disconnectedI click on "shut down" (it does not make a difference if I log on in Windows first or if I directly shut down from the logon-screen)The Notebook restarts instead of shutting downAfter the reboot I click "shut down" againNotebook shuts downThis only happens if the Notebook was switched on by wake on LAN, If I switch it on using the powerbutton it shuts down as desired. And the shutdown works also fine after this unintended restart. From my point of view the issue can not be related to the fact that another magic packet is received because it also happens if the LAN-cable is unplugged. Does anybody know what the issue is and help my out?  Thanks a lot for your help in advance  Kind regards Andreas

Thinkpad Edge E525 AMD A6-3300, 4gb, 500GB, win7 pro Hi,  I've had my Edge for less than 2 weeks and it has randomly shutdown for no apparent reason about 4 times.  1st couple of times just thought it was power/low battery but it has also happened with full charge and connect to power. I've read somewhere that this can be caused by hot CPU but the Edge has hardly been on much in 2 weeks and so far only used it for excel. Any ideas? Cheers, lady-lenovo :-)

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E525 - Random Shutdown, not a power issue

Maybe it's temperature, bit then you have to monitor the temps, f.i. with :http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html It's a simple utility, which does just that. If it's temp, your fan might stall and then your CPY will get too hot. You can also do an audible check on that, by just listening to the fan if it runs anyway. If it's not temps, then you have to be more specific on model and symptoms.

This is a little review of the situation of my Thinkpad, maybe someone could lend me a hand (important: I use the notebook without a battery): 1) The notebook arrived (I bought it used in a forum), I installed Windows, everything fine2) The notebook started shutting down randomly that same day, not rebooting, just plainly powering off. As there were some problems with the energy suministry that day, I thought that it was an energy issue.3) Next day everything was great, I run some Intel Burn test and Furmark to be sure about the power issues (maybe the charger was faulty and it wasn't capable of giving the required power). Everything ok, with these benchmarks I also discarded temperature issues.4) At night it started again, but now the notebook was rebooting. It would power up, and shut down in middle of that, so I thought again of a power issue (It wasn't an OS fault) 5) I waited until the next day, now when I plugged the charger the light that indicates so won't power up at first intance, but powered up after disconnecting and connecting it again.6) That approach of connecting the charger in two times worked for around a week, now the light was impossible to turn on. That day I read about the "press ten times then hold for 30 seconds" thing, at first it didn't worked, but after a few times of connecting and disconnecting the charger it worked. Some times the light would light up for a second or less, but finally it reached a point when it was permanently on.7) Her... Read more

It occurred the first time when she just handed over the runnin laptop. you accept it holding it on a one of its corners, en ooops, it shuts down. Now I discovered that there is a specific spot on its bottom that has this sudden shutdown effect. Just push there with one finger, absolutely not hard, and the PC shutsdown as if the battery were taken out, or a hardware reset button were pushed. She tells me il also occors when it is flat on a table, and the table shocks or vibrates.  Anything I can do against that ? Jan

Answer:hardware problem: sudden shutdown of Thinkpad ege type 0217, when pushed on the bottom

Is it a proper shutdown (all tasks shut down, windows says it's powering off) or just loss of power, ie laptop goes black right away. Edit: Your posts seem to indicate the latter. If it is so, you should take it to a service center/warranty repairs.

Hello,
Can anyone confirm by how many degrees the room temperature would increase in an office if there were to be an increased number of PC's and Monitors?
I am assuming that this will be dependant on the size of the office, the temperature of the computers and the number of staff in the office.
Does an equation exist to work out the increase in temperature?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

having just installed a zalman heatsink/CPU fan i've started looking into the temperatures inside my PC...

my CPU temperature goes from 38C to 45 C depending on if i have the CPU fan running or not,

my motherboard temperature goes from 43C to 48C likewise depending on the CPU fan... which is around 5C above the CPU temperature...

should this bother me?

Hi,

I have an AMD 955 CPU and ROG Crosshair III formula motherboard

When testing, I use both HWM Pro, AMD Overdrive and LCD Poster to watch out for the temps.

In both HWM Pro and LCD poster there is the CPU temperature showing.

I use AMD overdrive to look for Core temps...

The max temp is 62C...

Is that the max CPU temp or max CPU core temp???

While testing, Highest CPU temp was 53C (@3.8GHz, IntelBurn) and Core temp was 59C....

So which one shall I look out for?

Answer:Core temperature or CPU temperature?

''personally'' i watch the (CPU temp), the individual core temps fluctuate far too much for a constant temp reading.

Hi all,

I've been using an app called "HWMonitor" to measure the temperature of my PC's internal components and it works great, but I want to use another app to do the same thing just so I can compare the numbers that both apps give.

What's the most popular app for measuring the temperature of PC components?

Link to what I use at the moment: HWMONITOR | Softwares | CPUID

Thank you!

Hi all, I got today Lenovo S510 model: 10KW005NAX I want to get a cable or adapter to connect Displayport to HDMI 1080p LCD I have from before There seem to be passive and active converters, what I understood from online is that if I have DP++ PC I can get a passive converter or else I need an active converter. I don't know if cables can be active and passive too?For example: Amazon linkSo the description says source can be DP or DP++, so it has a chip inside it? so it's active? So... can anyone tell me what is my displayport type (Lenovo S510) ? and maybe shed some light on what I need to get clear picture to HDMI in? Appreciate your help

To Whom It May Concern (or anyone willing to help):
About 6-8weeks ago (guesstimate) I started getting a random window popup at various times while browsing online. The semi-odd thing about it is #1-same type of popup on both ie & my Chrome browsers; #2- I hadn't downloaded/installed anything around then; #3 I havenot been able to find their source; #4- Have not found any scan (malwarebytes, Panda, pcpitstop, etc) that seems to locate it, nor does my Winpatrol. The popup windows vary in advertisers, but most frequent is for the game "Big Farm". They are always fullsized page & open in a new window (not just a new tab), without my regular menu/toolbar, etc on top. I did notice a little icon right before the url it shows at very top, clicked it & got a menu-thing showing the permissions of the settings, etc & I could click to view cookie data (in which I was thinking "yippee I got it", lol)... I can "remove" & "block", however each time I can make sure I do all of the however it doesn't seem to help because in a little bit "poof" it comes up just as before! Of course it can get irritating!
Now, as of 2days ago I've suddenly gotten a new & BIGGER annoyance... Quite often, especially when I open my browser & go to do anything (such as switch sites/pages, open history, etc), I get a blackish popup come down about 3/4 over my page, and has a video box (which seldom starts & if it does p... Software temperature monitor vs Hardware temperature monitor, which one give accurate temperature from overclocking and monitor your PC temperature?

Answer:Software temperature monitor vs Hardware temperature monitor

I don't understand your question. What type of hardware monitor are you speaking about?

In systems I am familiar with there are temperatures sensors in the hardware that are read by software.

so, a few years back i read a magazine that said to change the type of computer in device manager to standard pc because it made the computer run a little better or faster.

so now i've got my laptop and i've noticed it getting slower and thought that i would do this... VERY BAD MOVE!!!

i can still boot windows and everything - it meant that i had to let the computer reinstall all of the drivers for my hardware - but i have noticed in the device manager now that there are two instances of 'standard pc', there is also a new section titled 'other devices' with about 15 devices that seem to have no driver for them - some mention 'ISA' so i am guessing that changing to standard pc means that windows thinks my laptop is now a desktop pc with ISA slots???

i find that when i put my laptop lid down the thing shuts down, when i press the power button it turns off straight away (doesn't even shut down!). i had had the laptop configured for ages to do nothing when i closed the lid and give me shut down options when i pressed the power button. i look in power options and i can only cinfigure the monitor screen and hard disk power off options - every other option is not available. when i do bring up the shut down options i can no longer choose standby.

i have also realised that i can not turn on my wireless connection - i've tried all sorts to get it to work with no avail! the laptop is an acer ferrari and when i call up the manager app... Read more
