ThinkPad Edge 15 0319-3TG - No power? Motherboard change needed? Possible?..!

Question: ThinkPad Edge 15 0319-3TG - No power? Motherboard change needed? Possible?..!

Hi, I have ThinkPad Edge 15 0319-3TG that doesn't power up. The lights on it don't turn on at all. Power supply AC adaptor has been tested OK. Pressing and holding power button didn't help. Speaking to hardware support at work, he guessed motherboard could be busted. Looking online, these cost a small fortune! What is the best way troubleshooting this? How can I ensure it is indeed motherboard? I have keen eyes/steady hands, not too much experience with motherboards, so your help will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Preferred Solution: ThinkPad Edge 15 0319-3TG - No power? Motherboard change needed? Possible?..!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: ThinkPad Edge 15 0319-3TG - No power? Motherboard change needed? Possible?..!

Hi, TonyKay

I looked up the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your machine and found some troubleshooting steps to this issue. Firstly, make sure all connections are good and tight. Secondly, it may be your RAM that needs replacing. Finally, it could be the motherboard. It is unlikely that both RAM sticks would have died at once, so I would guess that it is the motherboard as well.

Hope it helps,
Adam

I have the following lapop in the subject line. I have installed every driver on to the laptop, power management, hot keys, networks, graphics. And then it got to the Wireless driver, so i downloaded all of them on the Lenovo support driver site for this model of laptop. first one i installed was the Intel Wireless LAN (11bgn) for Windows 764bit driver, this never worked so then i tried all the another one which did not the work either. I have tired everything to get this sorted but no driver is working. I have made sure the Wireless is turned on too. the wireless is on also the bluetooth is on. I have Windows 7 64 bit installed on this laptop.

Hello, I have been asked to reimage a batch of 6 ThinkPad 15s, they are all the same model (0319-2AG) and were purchased together a while ago. I have built a custom image of Windows 8.1 and rolled this out to the machines, the deployment went great and they are all running Windows 8.1 now however 2 out of the 6 cannot connect to WiFi as Windows 8.1 reports that the adapter is "off". I have checked the obvious, there is no hardware switch on this particular laptop and I have tried resetting to BIOS in case something was disabled in there. I think the problem has something to do with the WiFi hotkey on the keyboard (F9 Key) as nothing happens when i push this. I have tried multiple solutions for this problem found both on this forum as well as elsewhere and nothing has worked so far, I hope someone can suggest something new as I'm now out of ideas. Please see list below of things I have tried already: Reimaged with clean Windows 8.1Installed power management driver from LenovoInstalled hotkey utility from LenovoInstalled energy management software from Lenovo (V7 on reccomendation from another post)Installed settings dependancy package from LenovoInstalled driver for WiFi card from Lenovo I have now basically installed every driver available from Lenovo for this model and I am still back at square one. I did have a bit of luck with one of the applications, I have tried so many I cant remember which, however the F9 key started opening the networking side... Read more

Hello Guys,First of all sorry about my English (not my mother tongue).I have a laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad Edge) that cause me a problems in the past 24hr.He is shutdown himself after 10-15 min sometimes even more, with or without (at all!) programs running in the background.I've notice that the fans is working always, even from the stratup. The "wind" that coming out from there is not warm like he was in running of big applications such as HD movies, Games.I think the problem started when ive got a notice that the PCI Standard CPU host bridge driver is updated..  What i already done:1. Update the BIOS to the late march update.2. Restore windows to yesterday.3. Monitor Task Manager and SpeedFan with no something suspicious.... Everything is running good.4. Update drivers through Lenovo Update Center. Thanks in advance for your help!

Answer:ThinkPad Edge 0319-46U Shudown Himself

I have a computer lab with 20 of these laptops, and during a 90 minute class, 5 or 6 of them will shut down without warning.  It's like someone disconnected the power supply -- there's no sign they are about to shut down -- they just instantly turn off.  The weirdest thing is that oftentimes, 2 or 3 of them will shut off at the exact same instant.  It's like they are receiving some external signal to synchronize their shutdown.  If I turn off the wireless cards, some of the machines seem more stable, but that action doesn't completely eliminate the behavior.

Hello, I am looking for a little bit of help. I have a Lenovo Edge 15 0319-46U laptop I recieved from my educational institution. I have had the laptop since fall of 2012. I've never had a single issue with the laptop except a month ago I noticed my wireless 1x1 b/g/n card stopped working. I'm well knoledged in computers and have already tried updating the drivers but I ran into an issue. My wireless card is no longer being shown on the Device Manager list under Network Adapters or "Unknown Devices", I only see my Wired gigabit card. I went into Bios, checked the button (did all the begginer stuff) and no dice. Wireless still does not work. I went ahead and ordered a new Intel Wireless card for said laptop and made sure the interface worked correctly, so my question is does anyone know of any fixes that could work even if the adapter is not shown on anywhere in the computer? And would anyone know if the Intel 7260-HMWNBWB Dual band card would be compatible with this machine? Thanks in advance for an answer.

Answer:Thinkpad Edge 15 0319-46U wireless problems

Hello and welcome,

The ThinkPad BIOS has a wifi whitelist.  A card has to be a whitelisted model and have a Lenovo FRU number or the laptop will refuse to boot.  Generic cards - even with the correct model number - won't boot on an unmodified BIOS.

Page 113 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual  lists the compatible models and FRU numbers.

When I deinstall the connection it comes again when I restart my Laptop. Its very strange because these connection wasn't there before the update ??? And the other Problem is that my Wlan transfer speed is only "48 MBit/s" when I send a file to my Computer, that is not normal because I have Wlan support 802.11bgn and it should be faster or not ? Maybe the driver is wrong, I would appreciate it if someone could help me to fix this problem. Thank You

I have a new Thinkpad Edge laptop that was purchased about one month ago.  This laptop is going to be used for studio quality radio reports and interviews.  We also purchased a USB audio-technica microphone (ATR2500-USB) and hooked it up to the laptop.  The 64bit Windows 7 operating system informed me that all the drivers had installed successfully.  When we were trying to configure this microphone and set it as the default recording device, it appeared that it was going to work well.  In testing the microphone, we soon found out that our voices could not be detected.  When we tapped on the mic or bumped it, we could see that the noise would barely register on the input meter.  Is there a problem between the external microphone and the sound card that is in the system?  I have gone through all the settings to turn up the mic and increase the input. Thanks,Greg

Is this machine Windows 10 compatible?

Answer:Lenovo Edge 15 - 0319-3UG

Good day.

That model is not in the compatibility list: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht103535
That doesn't mean that it can't be made to work with Win10, just that if it is possible, it will likely take extra effort to find appropriate drivers for your devices. There may also be cases where no drivers will be available.

If you choose to try it, please share your results.
Regards.

Good afternoon,

I would like to write a complaint, regarding my Lenovo laptop, which I have purchased approximately 1 year ago. I have chosen Lenovo as reliable computer company, but I was disappointed, as first taint occurred in one and a half month after purchase. Second was in the middle of the year, and third one was about 2-3 weeks ago. I used to buy another computer suddenly, as my job performance seriously depends on my computer. I am working in airlines as head of flight support division/first officer, so you can imagine how strong strike to me it was. Unfortunately, only 1 year warranty was on my Lenovo laptop(which was expired approx 1 month before it's last taint). Besides 2 first taints, third one was absolutely last, as motherboard has completely failed. I was advised by computer repair technician, that in order to fix my computer, I need to buy a new motherboard, which price is 1400LT (approximately 400EUR), when the price of my computer was approx 2300LT (year ago), now it's price much lower. It was more beneficial to buy a new computer, than to fix computer which age is 1 year and which had fails 3 times. I could no realize, what I could expect in month or 2 months after buying new motherboard. I think, that that computer was completely unreliable. Also I  think, maybe it was a defective batch of mine model? Maybe you have attained more complaints regarding that model and batch? Trusting to your company, it is completely unbelievable, that it ... Read more

In my workplace I have had 3 Edge laptops with faulty motherboards (2 x E520, 1 x Edge 13). The sympton for all was: not powering on. These all have motherboards replaced under warranty. Anyone else experience these problems?

Answer:Thinkpad Edge motherboard failures

Unfortunately, mine is not under warranty, but I fear that I may have the beginning of a motherboard issue.  My laptop won't boot (even though I hear the hard drive start).  It eventually starts once its warmed up a bit.  Once I have the Edge running, it passes all diagnostic tests so I can't really be sure what the issue is.

It should work with the 12.1" display including its cable. If you'll get problems with it, you additional should replace the display sub-board where the display cable is attached to (next to UltraBay-cage), if the 12.1" - sub-board has a different FRU#.

So i recently decided to buy a second hand Lenovo E520(retarded i Know). My previous work gave me the same model so i trusted it to be reliable, however 1 month after i bought it, it suddenly did not want to turn on. I got the serial number and entered it on Lenovo's site and saw it was bought end 2011(On the posts i saw everyone that bought the e520 at that stage has problems with it). So i realized i bought it 3 months out of warrantee, took it to a lenovo dealer, they then told me it was the charging point on the motherboard that was faulty so the motherboard had to be replaced. They quoted me 4700 South African Rands(Which is about  $500 US), nice price for a motherboard since the whole pc only costs R7000 in SA (About $780 US). So i bought a working Motherboard Second hand from a guy who broke his LCD and sold the rest for parts(Exactly the same model as mine 1143-AFG) for R1000($110 US). Replaced the motherboard myself, when i was done assembling again, tried to plug it in, still no power, not charging, charging lite not showing. So anyone who can maybe help me????????? Would appreciate it!!! By the way My name is ihatelenovo after this bad experience i had with Lenovo's Reliability.

Hi alaa_pcprof and welcome to the community,

About the only way I can advise to find a board is through an authorized service center.

Use the map.  At the top enter a country  and it will bring up a list of providers with addresses and phone numbers.
There's none in Iraq, there's some in Jordan, some in Lebanon and a lot in Saudi Arabia if you have any contacts there.

It's not going to be cheap.  On Ebay, in the US, a used board costs around 250.00US.

What happened to your board, anyway, that it died?

Answer:Thinkpad Edge 11 Language change

mharoon, welcome to the forum,

which flavour of W7 is installed on the system? My guess is professional or home?  The pre-install from Lenovo is for a single language, yes you can select the recovery to run in English but it will install, in your case German.

One possible solution would be to purchase an oem W7 Ultimate license and perform any anytime upgrade. To do this you need to go to your computer properties and under Windows Activation select to change the Product Key, enter the Ultimate key and follow the prompts. It should update to Ultimate, without you needing to insert the Ultimate disk, enabling you to select English as your language when it's finished.

Hope this helps.

I have a Thinkpad Edge 13" (AMD Athlon Neo X2) and have encountered a number of problems that have come up over the last couple of weeks.  I've had the Edge for a year and half and it is no longer under warranty. Product Number:  01972AU #1 - Edge will not boot.  I hit the power button and I hear the hardrive start spinning but nothing shows up on the screen.  No Bios, No windows, nothing.  I have hooked up an external monitor with no luck.  The only way I have been able to get around this issue is to continually try to boot the machine (sometimes without the battery, with battery unplugged, etc.).  However, it appears that once the laptop is "warmed up" it boots.  It will then restart and shutdown and boot up without issue until I shut it down overnight. This issue appears to have come out of nowhere.  I've run and passed every hardware diagnostic test out there and nothing comes up.  But as soon as I leave the machine shut down for a while I have to go through the whole process again.  I've tried removing the RAM, unplugging the WAN, etc.  I'm afraid it may be a motherboard problem... #2 - Bottom of keyboard not working.  This one caused me a considerable headache since I believed that I had locked myself out of windows somehow since I didn't realize that I was typing in my password incorrectly.  Once I got back from the store with a cheap USB keyboard I could get back in.  I note... Apologies if this has already been covered, I did a search and couldn't find anything. My E320's base has cracked around the left hinge (like many, it seems) and requires a replacement base cover. The repair place that did the diagnostic also quoted me way more than I can afford and on a timeframe that is unworkable (I'm a student and a writer with neither time nor money to spare!). Needless to say, my laptop is out of warranty. However, I bought a new base cover and am hoping to replace it myself. How hard can it be, right? Pretty hard, it seems, judging by an online manual I found. Do I really need to take EVERYTHING apart just to replace the base? Do I really need to stick all these labels everywhere?! Fiddling around with the internal workings of a computer is more than a little daunting to someone like me, but I'm willing to give it a go if I have someone who knows what they're talking about guiding me through it. I also need to get new screws since apparently a couple within the hinge have snapped, but I don't know what size to get. Is there anyone out there who's done this before and can talk me through it? I'd REALLY appreciate it. Hannah

Sound beep may be 2 times and screen is black.I press power button to turn off and on again1. No more beep sound and red indicator light just on around 1 second to off, screen is black. I removed cover behind and see fan just run 1 second to off when power up.I also removed all RAM dimm and power up but it still did not have beep sound. It was out of warranty 3 months. Anything helps !

Answer:Thinkpad Edge 14 - Cannot power up

Hi. I browsed the Lenovo support site and found this page:  It is a list of beep/no beep codes pertaining to your system. Unfortunately from your description, I would guess that your system board is bad. Hope all goes well, Adam

My Thinkpad Edge 15 0301-J4G bought in 2011 will not fire up at all. Pressing the power button has no effect and the green LED indicating mains power does not light up. I have tried removing and replacing the battery and have tried two different known working power supplies on it (I tested the supplies on my old R61i and both charged that fine.) I have tried removing the CMOS battery but that has had no effect. I will leave the unit on charge overnight to see if that helps any. If not what's the next step? Am I possibly looking at a dead unit after so little use?

Answer:Thinkpad Edge 15 0301-J4G will not power up

turn the unit off ( i know but had to put that first) unplug the charger take off the battery leave it for 30 seconds then just plug the charger in press and hold power button for 10 - 15 seconds if it fires up (highly unlikely as lenovo are rubbish ) the slot the battery back in . this worked for me a couple of months back on my laptop but now its dead so probably best just to return it and buy a decent laptop

Hi, My ThinkPad Edge 11 (NVZ3PMH) has a problem with the power jack socket.I had to fumble with the wire to get the batterie rechargedNow it wont charge anymore Is it a known problem? Is it a warranty problem (bought 25 - 3 -2011)?Is there a quick solution? (to save my data before shipping)

Answer:ThinkPad Edge 11 Power problem

Hey ThinkpadEdge,

If I am understanding you correctly it would seem that the power adapter slot on the System Board is what your saying is loose? Please correct me if I am wrong but if this is the case you would need to send it in and have it repair ( replacement system board) or try to solder it yourself.

If it isn't the connection on the System Board then it would be the adaptor which you can buy a replacement. If your under warranty they will fix it for free and if you are worried about data loss you need to make a back up of HDD before you ship it.

Best Regards,

Hiro

Purchased a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge e520 1143-cto from Lenovo in December, 2011 and now it won't power-up. I plug it in wall, press the power button and nothing. 1 year warranty expired December, 2012.

Can't be the power cord: 1) Tried a cord from another Thinkpad (R61i back in 2008 that's slow but still works) but still get no power, and 2) Edge's cord powers up R61i.

Price to fix probably beyond what the laptop's worth but thought I'd ask anyway. Thanks.

Answer:Solved: Thinkpad Edge won't power-up

Those models have a faulty EEPROM chip on the motherboard. However there is no recall on them so you will have to pay out of pocket to get it fixed. The cheapest and best way to get it fixed is to call Lenovo and buy an extended warranty for about $130(I think) and then use the newly purchased warranty to get a warranty claim to send it in. Turn around is one to two weeks and shipping is covered both ways. The only upside is that you then have a warranty again on the laptop for other possible issues.

I'm working on a ThinkPad Edge E531, I've just swapped out the hard drive for an SSD and done a clean install of Win 10 Pro 64 bit Anniversary Update and installed the Intel Chipset Device Software (Inf). All has gone well except that the computer keeps freezing momentarily and in the Windows System Event log every time this occurs there's a Disk warning followed by a storeahci warning ("Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued" Event ID 129 ) at the same time as the freezing occurs. On checking Device Manager I can see that the Intel 7 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller hasn't been installed, I believe this is normally installed by the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver. When I go to Lenovo Drivers & Software downloads for my model and choose Windows 10 64 bit there is only an old (2013) version of the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver available for download. When I run this it appears to run through OK but doesn't register in Programs and Features and doesn't install the Intel 7 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller so I still have the problem, even when run in compatibility mode for Win 8.I've tried another Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver from the Lenovo website and this doesn't work either and I've downloaded version 14.8.0.1042 from the Intel website but this faults on install with a This Platform Is Not supported error. Can anyone suggest a way ahead?

I have a Thinkpad Edge 13 which I have enjoyed and is almost problem free. However, the power button in the upper right hand corner sometimes does not respond well. I can push the button many times without it coming on. Finally it does come on after many repeated attempts. Does anyone have a similar problem? I am thinking about returning computer as it is still under warranty, but that is also a pain. Thanks for any help with this.

Answer:Thinkpad Edge 13 Power button problem

hey jsolson,i recommend that you bring it to the service center. It is a possibility that the button contact with the mainboard is damaged.

Hi everyone, My Edge e135 suddenly turned off while it was plugged in, and I haven't been able to boot it back up. It is not charging, and I've tried removing both the AC adapter and battery and holding down the power button, but no go.  When I plug the AC adapter in, the green light next to the power will turn on. But if I hit the power button, it turns right back off. Also, when I hit the power button, the red indicator on the laptop will flash on as if it's about to turn on, but it's only for a split second before turning right back off. Any idea what it could be? It's brand new, bought it in Korea where I currently am, and no idea how warranty works out here so if it's motherboard related then I have myself a new, very expensive paperweight. Any help would be hugely appreciated -- it was supposed to be my replacement for another recently dead laptop.  Thanks.

I have four Thinkpad Edge E520 laptops that don't indicate power from the powr supply or power on at all. I tried using the battery from a machine that does work and testing the power supplies on other machines that work, but none of the four problem children power up at all. I've removed all of the perihperals but no power or boot up. Also removed the battery with only external power and then tried to boot. Tried only with the battery and no boot. I checked the power supplies with a volt meter and they are a steady 20.33VDC. The charge indicator light on the side near the charging jack does not light up at all. Is it a fault of the charging board or the motherboard? Anyone know of have the same problem that has been fixed? Thanks.

I found an intermittent problem with my laptop. I can't power up my laptop using ac power as well as battery. When the ac power is plug in, the power indication light next to the connector is not on. After twisting it couple of times it will light up for few seconds and goes off again. Then I tried to power up in battery mode, it can power up until I login to windows and then it turn off the laptop again. Then I try to power up again, it's not possible anymore until I remove & plug back the battery for several times. Also when it starts to power up in battery mode, the laptop goes dead again when I plug in the ac plug. These symptoms seems to be intermittent. Have been facing this problem for last few weeks where one week the laptop is totally fine and some other weeks it just don't power up. Need advise or solution urgently?

Hello, I have seen various posts about similar problems, though not on Edge E130. Tried their solutions, to no avail. The screen is black. No faint image. Machine powers up (LEDs glow, noise of fan and hard disk). I have no external video connection. Have tried taking battery out, pressing on button for 1 minute, plugging machine to power (no battery) and restart. No success. Did not initiate any kind of update (certainly not BIOS!), upgrade or new software install (though the machine has been asking to upgrade to Windows 10, which I have not done yet). Running Windows 8.1 (as far as I can remember, as I cannot actually check - the screen is black).  AVG antivirus, updated and fully run about one week ago. Help? Please?

Answer:Black screen on power on in Thinkpad Edge E130

What happens if you connect an external monitor to the machine? If that works, it means your graphics card is still okay. So issue might be with the LCD or a BIOS setting (external display first)If you still have a black screen you may likely need motherboard replacement.

Hi all,    I am facing random power failure or shutdown problem with my edge e530. First it started with random hibernation of laptop when moved. I searched and found it was power button problem which was set to hibernate in power settings. I changed it to screen off and also tried to fix the power button board wire but it still switched off the screen when laptop was moved. Now recetly my laptop started to randomly shut down and sometimes restart even when U am not moving the laptop. In event manager I your pc suddenly lost power event. I have checked with battery and it occurs without battery . i also checked if it was charger problem but it occurs even when charger disconnected. So can anyone tell me what could be the cause. Is it the faulty power button board or something else.  Regards

Hi Shikhardadhich,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!

Please perform the below given steps and confirm me regarding the same.

Have you tried checking with the different good known battery and adapter? If not please try checking with different good known battery and adapter. Or check the faulty laptop adapter and battery in the other good known laptop.
As you said the laptop is getting power on only for few and it gets shutdown all of a sudden, here can you please confirm me whether it goes to BIOS page. If yes leave the laptop idle in BIOS mode and check whether it gets shutdown. To go to BIOS page, once the laptop is switched on keep tapping on F1 key to go to BIOS page.
Before doing all the above steps please make sure whether the battery is fully charged?

Please let me know with the above steps to assist you further.
Thank you, have a good day.

Before Thinkpad I had laptop Lenovo from Idea series and I would appreciate if I could have the same option with Thinkpad to power off display by button...Is there any solution for Edge series for that ?  Thanks, Peter

I work for a school district that is in Phase 1 of a 1 to 1 project, we purchased 250 lenovo edge 14s from a leasing company that were coming off of lease, we have some that do not work. In repairing them we have found that the ribbon cable on FRU 60Y5597 has connections damaged and or missing. We don't need the entire assembly just the ribbon cable. Is there any place to order this part? There is no part number on the cable and the HMM only lists the Keyboard Bezel assembly(60Y5597). I could understand if the cable was hard wired to the power switch but it isn't. It seems like a waist to have to order the entire assembly when a tiny cable will fix the issue. I understand these laptops are out of warranty, so any help would be appreciated. Also just FYI we will be in the market for an addition 450 laptops next year as we enter phase 2, the decision comes down to cost, durability, support, ease of repair,, and parts availability.

(The shutdown mostly occured during big java appelts running or some bwrosergames.) Yesterday it shutdown due to overheating, I guess as it was very hot again. However I cannot power on it anymore. There is no peep, just nothing happens after button pressed. I am not sure how to go on now, is there any safeguard in place which I have to reset or to replace ? I have a Thinkpad Edge and when I plug the power adapter in the screen goes black and you have to remove and replace the battery to be able to turn it back on.  Also whilst this happens the fans kick in full speed. In addition: I have just removed the battery and have the mains plugged in (obviously) and it works fine.

Thinkpad Edge E525 AMD A6-3300, 4gb, 500GB, win7 pro Hi,  I've had my Edge for less than 2 weeks and it has randomly shutdown for no apparent reason about 4 times.  1st couple of times just thought it was power/low battery but it has also happened with full charge and connect to power. I've read somewhere that this can be caused by hot CPU but the Edge has hardly been on much in 2 weeks and so far only used it for excel. Any ideas? Cheers, lady-lenovo :-)

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E525 - Random Shutdown, not a power issue

Maybe it's temperature, bit then you have to monitor the temps, f.i. with :http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html It's a simple utility, which does just that. If it's temp, your fan might stall and then your CPY will get too hot. You can also do an audible check on that, by just listening to the fan if it runs anyway. If it's not temps, then you have to be more specific on model and symptoms.

Hello Everybody! This is my first post, and I am very-very sad that I must use Lenovo forums, however I had approximately 20 ThinkPads / IdeaPads in my life ... but never any model with a SLOT LOADING DVD drive (this will be the key problem). I thought this is one of the best technology ever, just pushing into, and do not have to worry that the tray may be broken. My actual Lenovo ThinkPad notebook is: Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E420s 4401-7PG (bought at 15.06.2013) Well, after buying I quickly made a full Recovery.1xboot - CD is enough here (approx. 350MB)3xdata - DVD. For some reason the Factory defaults on HDD was not working properly, because I always had to use a Windows disc for repairing boot partitions automatically. I don't know why unfortunately, but MBR / active / boot / etc... was not proper for some reason.  So I had the second option to do full factory recovery by using the discs I have made previously. After powering up the machine, I have pressed F11. I have chosed to restore from CD/DVD to reset to Factory default. For the first disc it was okay, it did until 1/3 of the whole process, and than ...I was not able to change disc, because EJECT button is not working!!!  I have even tried to push emergency hole button on the bottom ... no results. Nothing. The disc just did not wanted to come out for replacing it to DISC2. I was staring at this beautiful picture:  Because I was during the process, now I do not have ... Read more

It should work with the 12.1" display including its cable. If you'll get problems with it, you additional should replace the display sub-board where the display cable is attached to (next to UltraBay-cage), if the 12.1" - sub-board has a different FRU#.

It's probably an older PS if it has a 20-pin on it. What is the make/model of this PS ? There's an outside chance that it is a 20+4 connector. In this case the main connector (20) sisters with a specific 4-pin conn. to create a 24-pin. Check the docs. If you would post your rig specs we can point you to a reliable power supply. There are many junk power supplies that await the unsuspecting and when they fail, they can take other components with them.

Customer has brought me a Sony Vaio PCV-C11L and an ATX power supply that he wants installed to replace 'blown' PS.

Motherboard is ASUS P4SD-VL and the existing PS has additional power plug (P2 3-pin) that plugs into port immediately adjacent to main power (P1).
While the physical dimensions will offer a problem to installation...... I think that can be overcome. My greatest concern is just what the P2 is for, since the replacement PS doesn't have that plug . Have not been able to locate a 'map' of this motherboard -- Sony doesn't have any info.....

Anyone know anything about this PC?????

It would seem to me in order to have a completely stable system on battery. I have to set System Cooling to Active instead of Passive, and I have to set Fan Performance to Maximum Performance. Otherwise, I get system lockups on battery under load. For example:I have a VMWare Virtual Machine running in the background shuffling around drive partitions from virtual drives to a say physical SD Card with a Netflix movie playing fullscreen in HD mode in foreground. Btw, I do have the big battery. I have notice this issue with battery mode for some time now. Once I tweaked the power profiles, everything seems to work fine. I have no complants, but I thought that this might help someone else if they have similar issues. According to a full run of Intel's Diagnostic Utlility, everything is within tolerances, and it did not detect any errors.

I ve bought thinkpade edge 13 (0221RY6) and formated my hdd (was trying to install win XP). But now i am ready to switch on Windows seven and i am very sorry that i ve formated my HDD with pre installed windows 7.Somebody who has same machine PLS Can u give me your copy of recovery usb or link on it! Or any other help.THANKS!

Answer:I have lost my Recovery HDD with pre installed windows 7 on ThinkPad Edge 13 edge PLS Need HElp!

This is why one should burn recovery media before fiddling with the HD.

One option would be to download a legal Windows 7 ISO and install it.  Or borrow one.  You can use the product key on the bottom of your machine (or in the battery compartment) to activate the installation.  You may have to use the phone option to activate.

Working Legal Windows 7 Download Links

To do this you must install the same version of Windows that came on your machine - but it can be either 32 or 64 bit.

Your machine came with Win7 Home Basic 32.  I can't say for certain that these "all version" ISOs include that version, but you can try and see.

Once you have Windows installed, go to the Lenovo support page and enter your machine type.  That will take you to a list of drivers and apps to download.  Expand the ThinkVantage option and install ThinkVantage System Update.  You can then run it and it will download and install the other software automatically.

I'm basing this on what I see on the US pages.  Yours may be different.

Good luck,
Z.

Hello,With my previous Thinkpad X61s I was able to press Fn key and use some alpha keys as a numeric keypad but with my new Thinkpad X1 there is no such feature. I have some applications which do require the use of numeric keypad (note that the keycodes received by the OS are not the same if the normal numeric keys are used). Please, do not suggest to plug an external USB keypad or keyboard, that's, of course, a solution (which I don't like at all). Anyone has some suggestion to overcome this problem somehow? Thanks!Kind regardsBoyan

Answer:Numeric Keypad (on Fn+alpha keys) missing on Thinkpad X1 and Thinkpad Edge

As you are experiencing Fn+ alpha numeric keys are not working, I would suggest you to please update the Power Manager software and also update the Bios of your system from the below mentioned web link.

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?

After this, please restart the system and check if the issue resolved.

Thanks & Regards,
Sameer

Hello, I just bought an Edge 15 and I'm wondering if backlight bleed is a common problem with it. There are several places around the edge of the display where the backlight discolors the screen. I've attached a picture; note the top edge of the screen especially. Is this normal, or is it worth looking into a repair?  Also, I'm surprised that this model does not appear on Lenovo's website at all. I have only found one review for it, and it seems Best Buy was the only one to sell it. Anyone know about that? EDIT: Apparently my thread was moved to the ThinkPad Edge forum, though I'm pretty sure that this is not a ThinkPad Edge series device (as far as I can tell that series was discontinued and this was not ThinkPad branded). If someone could clarify that would be awesome. Thanks!

I have a ThinkPad 431 with Windows 7 the BIOS  turned on for always on.I switched on the USB option always on in lenovo utility. Thinkpad has 3 USB ports, two on the left and one on the right. The one on the right works when the thinkpad is in hibernation. The left ones don't. When thinkpad is on, all ports charge. Is this by design or is there a problem with my Thinkpad unit. I really realy need two ports for charging.

Answer:ThinkPad Edge 431 Powered USB charging at only one port when thinkpad is in hibernate

I should mention that I don't have any yellow USB port. Neither the left or the right ones have yellow.

Hi everyone, I'm wanting to buy a new laptop and currently deciding between this ThinkPad Edge E540 (479 Euros) and this refurbished ThinkPad T420 (299 Euros) I'll be using this almost exclusively for working with audio (music production, DJing, recording & listening to music) and almost nothing else - I run Ableton and Traktor which are quite CPU-heavy so the processor is quite important.Whichever I bought I would be taking the DVD drive out and putting in a SSD for the OS and my programs, and I would also be adding an extra 4GB of RAM.I don't have much money at the moment so the 180 Euros I'd save by buying the refurb would be very appreciated, however I really don't want to compromise the speed/lifespan of my laptop.---So my question is, how much do you think a 3-4 year old T420 (which from what I understand are one of the best laptops ever made) would compare to a brand new Edge E540 in terms of speed, and which do you think would last longer?---Thanks in advance for your input.

i have tried to power it up with power ac plugged in and without. on/off power button flashes white.
battery is inside "sealed" and may be difficult to access.
ran fine yesterday, shut down with 20% battery life.

if the ac plug is unplugged then i can get the led to turn off but once pushed, it ony flashes. no results

warranty is expired.
unit manufactured april 23 2015

i currently have it plugged in but no flashing light as i have not pushed the power button. im hoping that it will take a charge or correct itself with time.

what do you suggest? thank you

Answer:i have a lenovo edge 15 model80k9. led power light is blinking but computer will not repond. no power up . the battery is "s

Try the following...

1. Take out (or take it off) the charger.
2. Next take out the battery
3. Now hold down power button for 20 seconds and then rinsert battery.
4. Now put it on the charger again

NOTE: Make sure charger is plugged into the main power supply (not an extension cord, surge protector, etc.)

Sometimes, when the device is not plugged in directly, it doesn't get the power it needs. Holding the power button, while you restart it, clears out the temporary ram (no it won't delete anything you have saved) and will give the device access to the ram it needs.

I am trying to find a new more powerful motherboard that will fit into my existing ThinkPad R30 chassis. Does anyone knows what the new part number is or the new  Intel motherboard that would replace my existing R30 motherboard. Thank you for whatever you can do.

Answer:Replacing ThinkPad R30 Motherboard with a new powerful motherboard.

You can't. Each chassis is unique. They aren't universal. You only can put any motherboard that appear on FRU list. Best regards.

Hi,     I have recently bought a Thinkpad Edge (AMD / L625) to replace my dependable but very aged Dell Precision M50. The Think Pad Edge I think is a great machine and does everything that I want it to do. One minor niggle and I think it only bugs me because of my engineering background is the systems specs. The Toshiba Satellite T135D-S1325 which is powered by the same processor and chipset can support 8GB of RAM, whereas the Edge can only support 4GB. Given that the memory controller is integrated into the Turion CPU and it is unlikely that Lenovo had AMD fab a custom CPU, shouldn't the edge also support 8GB of RAM. Has anyone tested an 8GB of RAM on an edge?If so does it work?Have Lenovo limited the Edge's RAM capacity through its hardware or software implementation? One final question if the system does support 8GB of RAM does the RADION 3200 IGP then take control of 512MB of system ram, rather than the 256MB when using 4GB of RAM. I was only thinking about this upgrade as a midlife refresh to give the system a little bit more horsepower. Kingston, Crucial and Corsair, to name just a few all make compatible 4GB memory modules, or atleast they conform to the specs of the current 2GB modules. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Chris

Answer:Thinkpad EDGE - AMD - 8GB RAM ?

welcome to the forum!

since the edge likely wasn't tested with 6GB or 8GB, the specs didn't reflect the system's full capability.   the same thing happened with the X61 and T61 systems.   they were rated at 4GB maximum but many users (myself included) are successfully running 8GB.

i'm not personally aware of any limitations in memory.   8GB and even 16GB (if 8GB DDR3 modules are ever released to the public) should be possible.

with that said, i cannot say definitively whether 8GB is supported but i'd be very, very surprised if it weren't.   i have an edge sitting on my desk with 2 x 2GB installed but unfortunately don't have any 4GB DDR3 modules to test.   if i get my hands on a 4GB module or two before this system leaves my office then i'll let you know the results.

enjoy your new system!

Question: Thinkpad Edge 14

I've recently received my Edge 14 and upon unboxing, I noticed the top of the laptop (the back of the screen) is curved.  I've seen countless videos and customer photos of their Edge and have not seen this on their's.  The curved screen is very noticeably.  You can also see that the speakers are curved as well due to it.  Does anyone know if its suppose to be like this?  If not then do you think I can get a full refund and none of that 15% restocking free junk?  Besides, I don't think I'm at fault here but rather who ever built the thing.  I am fairly disappointed to see this because I hear Thinkpads are quality built.  This is my first Thinkpad and my first impression was it is just another cheaply made laptop.  I've also bought the sleeve for this and that doesn't even fit properly.  Theres a huge gap when you place the laptop in.

Answer:Thinkpad Edge 14

Hello mate, Can you take a photo of your laptop ?And for the sleeve, it's because you've got the room for the AC adapter.

Hello, I am going to be using this laptop for Senior School, already 1 term in and am hating the laptop we recieved 2 years ago. I would prefer if a Lenovo Staff or Moderator can confirm if this is possible to buy as it's not on the Customize page. With the 14" model, I can get the 9 cell battery option but no choice of the Intel Centrino Advanced 6200N wireless card, and with the 15" model I can't get either. I know it's possible to use that card with the edge, but why isn't it avaialable to choose? The same with the 15" with a 9 cell battery option? Cheers, Matt. [This is from the Australian Store]

Recently, my HDD has begun to grind to a halt on my Thinkpad Edge e420. I decided to replace the HDD to an SSD, and after many, many unsuccessful attempts to reinstall the OS via Rescue and Recovery, cloning the drive etc, I decided to install the OS onto the new SSD using a windows disk. While this seems to have worked, I now no longer have any of the preinstalled Lenovo software. This is disappointing, but also seems to have reduced the functionality of the laptop (eg the networking device is no longer recognised).Could anyone please recommend a method of reinstalling the Lenovo software onto this new SSD.

Answer:Thinkpad Edge 420 HDD to SSD

Windows 7 right? Download ThinkVantage System Update, it should download most of the drivers and applicable softwares for your E420.

I currently own a Lenovo Thinkpad r61i with a 15 inch screen 1gig of ram, 6.5 lb. and windows vista! I am wanting to buy a new laptop. I am a student and I have my laptop everywhere I go and I need something light, pretty fast, and gets good battery life. I think I want to buy the thinkpad edge, but I have a few questions for people who have already bought it.  How have you handled there being no CD drive. I was thinking that I wouldn't have a problem because I mainly download software but I want to know how others handled it. I think I would image a cd on another computer and mount it with WinMountIs the 1.3ghz CULV processor good for this computer. I really don't want it to hang as that is my current problem or with the high ram is it fineHow is the new keyboard layout. I am constantly typing on my current thinkpad and I want to make sure that it is a good layout as I am constantly taking notes and writing essays    Please answer,Jeremy

Answer:Should I Buy the ThinkPad Edge

Hi Jeremy. I just got my Edge about a week ago.  I am also a college student.  I haven't had any problems getting around the CD drive.  My husband loaded Windows 7 Ultimate to a flash drive, then loaded it onto my computer.  I like not having it.  I was constantly bumping into the open button on my Vaio.  Very irritating when you are taking a timed exam online!  The Edge isn't as light as a netbook but it is pretty light.  I had a hard time deciding on the S10-3t or the Edge (as is evidenced by my posts on these boards--very embarrassing!!).  I am very glad I changed my mind and ordered this one.  I have the AMD Neo X2 L325 (1.5mhz) so I can't help with your question about the 1.3.  What I can tell you is that I haven't had a single issue with hanging.  This machine is very responsive.  I have a Thinkpad z60m.  The keyboard layout seems very similar to me.  I haven't had any trouble acclimating.  AND I LOVE this keyboard.  It has a better feel than the z60m, and that's saying something!  Prior to using this Edge, the Z60m was my favorite keyboard hands down.  I write quite bit (English/Communications major) and this keyboard is very comfortable. Battery power is pretty good.  I'm sure you'd get a lot more out of a netbook. I hope that helps a little. Karen

Question: Thinkpad Edge 525

Hi,i had a problem with the monitor backlight on my E525. It went totally gone and i needed a flashlight to see anything. I deinstalled the graphics drivers and it was fine again. I just see everything in 1024*786 and it says "standard vga graphics card" because i have no driver. Now i want to reinstall the Lenovo drivers, but on the homepage i dont find the graphic drivers for E525.Can anyone help? Thanks alot!

Answer:Thinkpad Edge 525

Hi, startrip

I think I found what you're looking for. This is the driver for the AMD graphics that your computer uses. To find drivers on Lenovo's site easily, go to support.lenovo.com, click on Driver Matrix, select the line of computer you have (ThinkPad, ThinkCentre, etc.) and then select your system.

Hope it helps,
