Estimated Shipping Date - ThinkPad Edge

Question: Estimated Shipping Date - ThinkPad Edge

On 11/27 I ordered a ThinkPad Edge. Now when I check the order status it has an estimated shipping date of 1/25/2013! This was supposed to be a Christmas present. If they had told me ANYWHERE in the order process that order fullfillment would be two months, I never would have ordered it. In fact, it does not have an estimated date on any email I received or any confirmation after order. The only way I know is that I checked the order status on my account. I called customer support and they were unapologetic. They said that the estimate was probably wrong and that it "should" be shipped within 3 weeks, but when I asked to get that in writing they said no. So then I said I wanted to cancel the order and they said I can't, but that they would put in a "request" for cancelation and let me know the answer in 3-5 business days. Am I just screwed?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Estimated Shipping Date - ThinkPad Edge

A similar thing happened to me. I ordered a laptop as a Chirstmas gift on 11/26 and was happy to see the estimated ship date be 11/30. But when that time came, it changed to 12/31 then to 1/25. I would have been fine waiting for it if it was just a new laptop of myself, but I can't wait until possibly a month after Christmas to give someone a Christmas gift (even just a few days after makes it look like I procrastinated in getting them something). 1/25 also suck for me, because by then I'm not even going to be living in the apartment it is going to be shipped to! I talked to post sales today and had it canceled, but of course it is "not guaranteed" and other such. I'm really crossing my fingers that it is canceled and doesn't end up shipping to an apartment I won't be living at any longer.

I ordered the Z570 (part number 10244SU) with i7-2670qm from Lenovo Canada site back on Nov 11, 2011. It was estimated to be shipped in 2 weeks when I ordered it, the order status showed the 25/11/11 as the "estimated ship" all along. Nov 25 came and gone but the status stayed at "In Process". When I checked this morning (Nov 26), the Estimated Ship date shows 31/12/12. That is Dec 12, 2012.  What the hack is going on? What is the point for that? By then the i8 or i9 would have been released.  Unless they revise the date comes Monday (Nov  28) morning, I think I am going to call the administrative support directly. Either they give me a new reasonable estimate ship date or I am just going to cancel it. The price of CAN$729 looked good but not good enough to wait ONE (1) year for it.

So far the laptop did not ship and there is no change in the estimated shipping date on the tracking page. How can the expected shipping date be dec 2, 2013 on dec 18 (only God knows). The Lenovo supplied drivers for the Radeon 6630M installed in the E520 haven't been updated since early 2012. Meanwhile ATI released v14 of the drivers just a few months ago (mid 2014). The E520 is now 5 versions behind with it's drivers, and the ATI supplied driver is incompatible. Does Lenovo have any intention of releasing a compatible version of the latest drivers for the 6630M or are we supposed to muddle along without further support for this piece of hardware?

Answer:Are Graphics Drivers for the Thinkpad Edge E520 going to be brought up to date?

There are other problems with the old drivers.I can upgrade IE10 to IE11 due incompatibily with this hybrid graphics driver.I can't update the lastest IE10 security updates for July 2014 due to incompatibily with this hybrid graphics driver.I'm sure upgraing to IE12 will fail as well.In January 2016 Microsoft will stop support for IE10 on Windows 7.:http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ie/archive/2014/08/07/stay-up-to-date-with-internet-explorer.aspx

Question?... how long is the actual shipping date?

If you order the actual upgrade version (i.e. Windows7 Home Premium) from MS or a listed vender

Are the DVDs available and how long is the shipping date?

I see the reduced price offer is now between 26 Jun and 11 July or until the supply is exhausted

Thanks in advance for any info

Answer:win7.. how long is the shipping date?

Each vendor has their own policy - so you'll have to contact the vendor to see what they offer.

For example, here's the Asus program details: http://event.asus.com/2009/windows7/

Later this month, Microsoft will begin selling Windows 10 and if you are in need of a key for the OS and want physical media, Amazon has you covered. Starting today, you can now pre-order the OS, both Home and Pro, but there is a catch.
According to both the Home and Pro pages, the USB drive will not ship until August 16th. As expected the price for Home is $119.99 and the price for Pro is $199.99.
Of course, most users will be receiving Windows 10 via the free update for Windows 7 or 8.1, but we do know that there will be some users who need a new key or who simply prefer to have physical media over buying it digitally from Microsoft.

Windows 10 USB drives can now be pre-ordered, shipping date is uncertain

It looks like the 31 March deadline for the latest Edge promotions is the date of invoice rather than the date of order. Given Lenovo's reported long build time and slow delivery (= late invoice), I suspect that ording now from the Lenovo web site will see an invoice date outside the qualifying period. Even a dealer who says he can 'get one in' may not deliver and invoice until April or beyond. I think the only option is to find a dealer who unequivocally has current stock. Can anyone shed any light on the likely position. I do, though, wonder about trying to take advantage of Lenovo Cashback at all, given the horror stories reported here.

Answer:Edge 31 March promotion deadline - order date or invoice date?

My experience with cashback is a deathly silence from Lenovo to emails asking for progress on the cash or even recognition that there has been a registration for cashback...Currently considering giving Lenovo some publicity on the matter.Unless you have a lot of time to possibly get no where I would steer clear of the alleged cashback scheme...

I want to order from the MS store for $15 in MyRewards credits, but will only do so if it does indeed arrive on release day. According to the website, it says this "Exclusive offer: Pre-order now and get a $10 Xbox gift card digital code within 10 days after the game's release.* Plus, pre-order by 10AM PST on October 21 and get it the day it's released." The gift card will be redundant because I'll be getting rewards credits, but do I have to pay for shipping to get it the day it's released?

I ordered a Thinkpad OLED Yoga, 16GB ram and 1TB SSD, on 6/17/2016. This order has been delayed many times due to parts back order, first the drive, then the screen, at least that's what I'm told, but frankly I've lost respect for customer support as they cannot provide any concrete details about my order. The latest estimate indicates that it will ship 9/12/2016, almost 3 months after the order.  I do want this machine and I see others on this forum have recieved a similar configuration. So, what is the deal here? Is Lenovo the most incompetent company on earth? Why offer a configuration they cannot fullfill? The current shipping window for this configuration is 3 weeks.  Can anyone shed any light here? Thanks,Kevin

Answer:[OLD] Thinkpad R series Order / Shipping Thread

Dear Mark,I have a issue concerning the purchase of Thinkpad R61, hopefully you can assist. My problem is i am looking to buy a Thinkpad R61 15.4" widescreen from Lenovo US but due to US export policies and other rules, Lenovo US cannot take my order. I am very disappointed as the spec i wanted is not available at my own country Malaysia and i can only get what i want from US. I sincerely hope that you would make an exception to allow me to buy the R61 from US with the configuration i want. Bearing in my mind the export policy issues, i have a solution in mind hoping it will work, only thing is your acceptance of my order.Solution - Lenovo US accept my order with payment being make using credit card and i will arrange self collection from my side with all shipping charges bear by mePersonally i feel this is a workabale solution for both of us which is beneficial to both party. The solution above show my support and determination to get what i want, only problem preventing me to place the order are the rules. Any better suggestions to help me get what i want is greatly appreciated.Appreciate and looking forward to your soonest replyThanksQuekP.S - Please do not ask me to get from Lenovo Malaysia as i have tried checking all the appointed distributor and no one has got what i want.

Hi I was going to order a T61p today, but the issues here about LCD screens and shipping delays have me scared that the Thinkpad quality maybe have slipped a bit. Was wondering if there were reccomendations on whether the LCD problem of average or subpar screens being used by Lenovo is less on the WUXGA option then the WSXGA+, since I was going to pay the extra $150 to get the higher resolution. Also do people have information regarding whether the horrible shipping delays have somewhat cleared? I'm in California so possibly I'd avoid some of them that affected Canada. I'd like to play games with the machine, and need it fairly soon so these things are really concerning me, and I've decided to wait at least a few days before ordering. Thanks,Todd Note: The screens above are the base 15.4 WSXGA+ TFT or the better 15.4 WUXGA TFTMessage Edited by ToddWCB on 05-27-2008 04:48 PM

Answer:Thoughts/advice on Thinkpad T61p shipping and LCD

I was a big ThinkPad fan before the recent terrible experience with the T61p LCD issues. Three years ago, I paid extra money upgrading my T42p to UXGA (1600*1200). I didn?t actually need such a high resolution on a small 15-inch monitor, but I enjoyed the quality of the LCD. On May 12, I received T61p, which I thought was a ?mature? product line. I didn?t actually need the 1920*1200 resolution, but I opted for a WUXGA in the hope of better LCD quality. It turned out I got a wholly crap. Not comparable with my old UXGA panel. It?s even worse than the WXGA panels from the Z61m & T60.  From my personal experience, I would suggest you to hold your order for now. Before these issues are resolved, why rush dumping your money into the toilet? PS. To be fair, order placed on May 1, and received on May 12. Lenovo do have improved the shipping. Message Edited by pattk on 05-28-2008 09:31 AM

date was set to 28/2/2013 (!). lol? anywho, after placing a few calls to the customer support

are random so i was told. nevertheless, lenovo should fix that ) i managed to bump the
shipping date down to iirc 10th of december, which of course was bumped by lenovo a
few times up to 12th of december.  received my t530 on 19st of december. funny fact. it
took 4 days for the laptop to travel from china to japan, and then just 2.5/3 days from japan

Got mine yesterday. Its the Core i5 5300, 8GB/256SSD with the QHD display. Took about 2 weeks from the date of order. What a great machine. It fixes the big problem of the first X1 Carbon (crappy TN display) and the annoying gimmick of generation 2 (adaptive keyboard) and what I have now is pretty much the perfect laptop. The display could be a touch brighter for me, but it is sharp and glorious. I am extremely pleased.

I'm guessing we might be due a 2017 shipping dates thread now...  I ordered an X1 Carbon 2017/5th Gen (top spec except for i7-7500U & 512GB PCIe storage) in the UK on 24 Feb. The Digital River order status hadn't changed since then so I emailed customer services today, who said: "Unfortunately, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5G 20HR ordered is currently unavailable and, as a result, shipping has been delayed. Your new estimated shipping date is 31/03/17." Yet the delivery status on the UK Lenovo store still says "7 business days". It's not ideal for me as my X220 screen is failing, and may not last out another month. I think one or two people on here have received a new model X1C  - how long was it between order and delivery, and what model number do you have? TIA! Hi I recently bought a ThinkPad P51 on the Lenovo online store in the UK, the shipping of this of the order experienced a few days delay going from the advertised 7 business days to 11 business days this due to a shortage on memory, luckily I didn't have to wait a long time for the order to be shipped as I could see it happened to some customers who bought the new P series back in May. However the factory from where these laptops are assembled LCFC (HEIFEI) ELECTRONICS TECHNOLOGY in China always seems to missed the latest collection time for the courier that Lenovo uses UPS, this is the second order where I have had the same problem, this factory tendered the shipment to UPS after the latest collection time causing a further one day delay to an already delayed shipment.  I don't understand why on such high end machines and considering the prices that customers are willing to pay why Lenovo doesn't offer a premium delivery service so customers can receive the shipment quicker, also I noticed now that the advertised shipping time for some models on the new P series is now showing on the Lenovo online store in the UK from 3-4 weeks probably because of some sort of shortage in parts I believe. Anyway, I just wanted to share with those thinking to buy any model of the P51 or P71 the current shipping situation and delays you may encounter.

On 18th February I ordered my new T450 online. I received an email which states that ships within 6 days. It won't ship for about 20. Why do Lenovo make false claims in emails and in website?

Hello!I am new on this board, so please be gentle with me I ordered a customized T450S on 19 February, and having read some of the horror stories on last year's shipping thread, I am now crossing my fingers in hope that I will receive it before I go travelling abroad for work on 8 March! My daughter, who is 1,5 years old, killed my old laptop, but that came as a nice excuse to buy myself a new toy. The highlights of the system I ordered are:ThinkPad T450s- Intel Core i5-5200U Processor (3MB Cache, up to 2.70GHz)- 14.0" FHD (1920 x 1080) with WWAN- 4 GB DDR3L - SDRAM 1600MHz Base- Keyboard Backlit - Danish- Fingerprint Reader- 500 GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm TCG Opal - Capable- ThinkPad Battery 3 cell Li-Polymer (23.2Whr) Front- ThinkPad Battery 3 cell Li-Polymer (23.2Whr) Rear- 65W AC Adapter - Denmark- Intel 7265 AC/B/G/N Dual Band Wireless + Bluetooth Version 4.0When I receive it, I will install an additional 8 gigs of ram, taken from my old laptop, and I have ordered a MyDigitalSSD 256GB M.2-card, which I will use for Windows and applications, and then the included 500GB drive will serve as data storage.

My Thinkpad Yoga 260 shipping is delayed for already more than a week beyond initial estimate. I called up the Digital River representative multiple times, never getting any sort of information on how long it is going to take. All they could tell me is that some part is still unavailable in manufacturing, but not even which precise one, or how long the delays would be. They always promise to send info per e-mail, and then send me an e-mail that contains absolutely no information beyond "well we're having some delay with shipping this thing" (no surprise here! I noticed). Do you guys even speak with each other?? After an already ample initial estimate of 12 days and then a completely unexplained delay of another 7+ days, I'm starting to be fed up with this. I would already be happy if someone could just tell me how long this ordeal is still supposed to take until it is even shipping - I'm not even asking for the arrival date at this point.Anything more than the "I have absolutely no clue, am I even working at the same company??" impression I am getting from the Digital River people would be useful. Also if there is a part missing with my specific configuration, if someone would tell me precisely which one I might also settle for another option if someone had bothered to ask. Get your stuff together, Lenovo. Seriously..

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 260 shipping delayed for already more than a week beyond initial estimate

First, I cannot give you a good answer, but I will say that the high-end parts seem to be the ones that are often in short supply on new products. I can see that on the first "sales" page, it says processor "up to 6th gen core i5", but the configuration page does list the i7 option. That may be just a typo, but it may indicate something. I know that ,in general, 16gb DDR4 memory chips are in short supply, but often computer makers get them faster than end users can get them as aftermarket parts. What kind of configuration did you get?

I ve bought thinkpade edge 13 (0221RY6) and formated my hdd (was trying to install win XP). But now i am ready to switch on Windows seven and i am very sorry that i ve formated my HDD with pre installed windows 7.Somebody who has same machine PLS Can u give me your copy of recovery usb or link on it! Or any other help.THANKS!

Answer:I have lost my Recovery HDD with pre installed windows 7 on ThinkPad Edge 13 edge PLS Need HElp!

This is why one should burn recovery media before fiddling with the HD.

One option would be to download a legal Windows 7 ISO and install it.  Or borrow one.  You can use the product key on the bottom of your machine (or in the battery compartment) to activate the installation.  You may have to use the phone option to activate.

Working Legal Windows 7 Download Links

To do this you must install the same version of Windows that came on your machine - but it can be either 32 or 64 bit.

Your machine came with Win7 Home Basic 32.  I can't say for certain that these "all version" ISOs include that version, but you can try and see.

Once you have Windows installed, go to the Lenovo support page and enter your machine type.  That will take you to a list of drivers and apps to download.  Expand the ThinkVantage option and install ThinkVantage System Update.  You can then run it and it will download and install the other software automatically.

I'm basing this on what I see on the US pages.  Yours may be different.

Good luck,
Z.

Hello,With my previous Thinkpad X61s I was able to press Fn key and use some alpha keys as a numeric keypad but with my new Thinkpad X1 there is no such feature. I have some applications which do require the use of numeric keypad (note that the keycodes received by the OS are not the same if the normal numeric keys are used). Please, do not suggest to plug an external USB keypad or keyboard, that's, of course, a solution (which I don't like at all). Anyone has some suggestion to overcome this problem somehow? Thanks!Kind regardsBoyan

Answer:Numeric Keypad (on Fn+alpha keys) missing on Thinkpad X1 and Thinkpad Edge

As you are experiencing Fn+ alpha numeric keys are not working, I would suggest you to please update the Power Manager software and also update the Bios of your system from the below mentioned web link.

After this, please restart the system and check if the issue resolved.

Hello, I just bought an Edge 15 and I'm wondering if backlight bleed is a common problem with it. There are several places around the edge of the display where the backlight discolors the screen. I've attached a picture; note the top edge of the screen especially. Is this normal, or is it worth looking into a repair?  Also, I'm surprised that this model does not appear on Lenovo's website at all. I have only found one review for it, and it seems Best Buy was the only one to sell it. Anyone know about that? EDIT: Apparently my thread was moved to the ThinkPad Edge forum, though I'm pretty sure that this is not a ThinkPad Edge series device (as far as I can tell that series was discontinued and this was not ThinkPad branded). If someone could clarify that would be awesome. Thanks!

I have a ThinkPad 431 with Windows 7 the BIOS  turned on for always on.I switched on the USB option always on in lenovo utility. Thinkpad has 3 USB ports, two on the left and one on the right. The one on the right works when the thinkpad is in hibernation. The left ones don't. When thinkpad is on, all ports charge. Is this by design or is there a problem with my Thinkpad unit. I really realy need two ports for charging.

Answer:ThinkPad Edge 431 Powered USB charging at only one port when thinkpad is in hibernate

I should mention that I don't have any yellow USB port. Neither the left or the right ones have yellow.

Hi everyone, I'm wanting to buy a new laptop and currently deciding between this ThinkPad Edge E540 (479 Euros) and this refurbished ThinkPad T420 (299 Euros) I'll be using this almost exclusively for working with audio (music production, DJing, recording & listening to music) and almost nothing else - I run Ableton and Traktor which are quite CPU-heavy so the processor is quite important.Whichever I bought I would be taking the DVD drive out and putting in a SSD for the OS and my programs, and I would also be adding an extra 4GB of RAM.I don't have much money at the moment so the 180 Euros I'd save by buying the refurb would be very appreciated, however I really don't want to compromise the speed/lifespan of my laptop.---So my question is, how much do you think a 3-4 year old T420 (which from what I understand are one of the best laptops ever made) would compare to a brand new Edge E540 in terms of speed, and which do you think would last longer?---Thanks in advance for your input.

Hello all, I recently am having trouble with Direct X 11 games with my graphics driver always crashing, I have come to the conclusion that it is out of date. I am running Version 8.951 2024.  AMD are up to Version 14! - Can a Lenovo REP please ask staff to update the drivers for us we are seriously lacking behind. I can download the drivers from  the AMD website but they're not compatible due to Switchable graphics modifications which are needed to be made, So to conclude can a Lenovo Rep just confirm and ask that AMD are on Version 14.0.0.0 and the latest on the lenovo site for a Lenovo Edge E520 is 8.951.2024. Cheers.

Answer:HD6630M DRIVERS OUT OF DATE - Edge E520

Hi Mattaust,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

We understood that your query is about latest Graphic driver for ThinkPad Edge E520 system.

As per the Lenovo drivers page the latest driver for AMD Graphic Card is 8.951.0.0000, and the driver version in your system is 8.951.2024. The driver version is mismatching, I suggest you to uninstall the current driver for both the graphic, and download the driver and install it which is provided in Lenovo driver page.

Windows updated drivers will not be compatible for OEM product machine.

Below is the link to enter the downloads page and download latest application accordingly, please click on "Select Product" then in "QUICK PATH" enter the MTM no. select the exact model.

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page#

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

Have a friend who works at an office who has a few T61's that he's trying to sell, and asked if i wanted one. Could someone give me an idea of the worth? Its the 14" widescreen model with 1440x900 display(no camera), has 3 gigs of DDR2 ram, 100gig hard drive, NVS140 graphics and dvd burner. Processor is the T7500.Unfortunatly, it also has a smartcard reader inplace of the expresscard slot which really sucks as i would want to get a couple USB3.0 ports on the thing. The nifty thing is most of these were only powered on to do updates to keep on hand should one of the normal use ones get taken out of service... So he claims they are in mint condition with minimal battery wear. What do you guys think would be a fair offer? Thanks.

Answer:Estimated value of T61?

Welcome to the forum!

For any nVidia-based *61 unit, the production date (located on the same sticker that holds the serial number and the 7-character model number on the bottom of the laptop) is the key.

If the machine is older than 08/08 which means August of 2008 (08/07 would be July of the same year) it is considered to have an "unsafe" GPU and is not worth a lot, likely less than $100.

If it has a "good" date, it's likely worth $200 if it's in very good to excellent condition.

Good luck.

Hey guys. I have an IBM T23 Thinkpad that was given to me. I know it is old, but it runs fine and these things are virtually indestructible. It is running WinXP SP3, with 256 MB (!) ram. I have two 512 MB sticks ordered to max out it's capability of one Gig. It's compact, closes up like a box turtle, and having only about $15 in it, I don't have to worry about it getting lost, dropped or stolen.

It started giving two error codes at startup...0271 and 0251 which are date and time errors, of course. So I replaced the CMOS battery. At first, it would keep the date and time for a few minutes after shutdown, but then quit keeping it. Someone said leave the computer plugged in for a couple of days to see if that fixed it. I thought it had....it kept the date and time for a few hours, but then quit again. (I just left it plugged in....should I have left the computer on while plugged in?) So, I replaced the battery again. No matter what now, it won't keep the date and time even after being off only a minute. The battery shows 3.26 volts, and that is at the plug that goes in the MB. Any ideas? And if the problem is in the MB (which I think must be the case), is that repairable by an amateur like me? (I have some experience with electronic repair) This computer is not worth spending what a shop would charge. And, while not willing to throw the computer away, it sure is aggravating to have to go to the BIOS and set the date and time every time I start it.
Thanks.

Hi,     I have recently bought a Thinkpad Edge (AMD / L625) to replace my dependable but very aged Dell Precision M50. The Think Pad Edge I think is a great machine and does everything that I want it to do. One minor niggle and I think it only bugs me because of my engineering background is the systems specs. The Toshiba Satellite T135D-S1325 which is powered by the same processor and chipset can support 8GB of RAM, whereas the Edge can only support 4GB. Given that the memory controller is integrated into the Turion CPU and it is unlikely that Lenovo had AMD fab a custom CPU, shouldn't the edge also support 8GB of RAM. Has anyone tested an 8GB of RAM on an edge?If so does it work?Have Lenovo limited the Edge's RAM capacity through its hardware or software implementation? One final question if the system does support 8GB of RAM does the RADION 3200 IGP then take control of 512MB of system ram, rather than the 256MB when using 4GB of RAM. I was only thinking about this upgrade as a midlife refresh to give the system a little bit more horsepower. Kingston, Crucial and Corsair, to name just a few all make compatible 4GB memory modules, or atleast they conform to the specs of the current 2GB modules. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Chris

Answer:Thinkpad EDGE - AMD - 8GB RAM ?

welcome to the forum!

since the edge likely wasn't tested with 6GB or 8GB, the specs didn't reflect the system's full capability.   the same thing happened with the X61 and T61 systems.   they were rated at 4GB maximum but many users (myself included) are successfully running 8GB.

i'm not personally aware of any limitations in memory.   8GB and even 16GB (if 8GB DDR3 modules are ever released to the public) should be possible.

with that said, i cannot say definitively whether 8GB is supported but i'd be very, very surprised if it weren't.   i have an edge sitting on my desk with 2 x 2GB installed but unfortunately don't have any 4GB DDR3 modules to test.   if i get my hands on a 4GB module or two before this system leaves my office then i'll let you know the results.

enjoy your new system!

I currently own a Lenovo Thinkpad r61i with a 15 inch screen 1gig of ram, 6.5 lb. and windows vista! I am wanting to buy a new laptop. I am a student and I have my laptop everywhere I go and I need something light, pretty fast, and gets good battery life. I think I want to buy the thinkpad edge, but I have a few questions for people who have already bought it.  How have you handled there being no CD drive. I was thinking that I wouldn't have a problem because I mainly download software but I want to know how others handled it. I think I would image a cd on another computer and mount it with WinMountIs the 1.3ghz CULV processor good for this computer. I really don't want it to hang as that is my current problem or with the high ram is it fineHow is the new keyboard layout. I am constantly typing on my current thinkpad and I want to make sure that it is a good layout as I am constantly taking notes and writing essays    Please answer,Jeremy

Answer:Should I Buy the ThinkPad Edge

Hi Jeremy. I just got my Edge about a week ago.  I am also a college student.  I haven't had any problems getting around the CD drive.  My husband loaded Windows 7 Ultimate to a flash drive, then loaded it onto my computer.  I like not having it.  I was constantly bumping into the open button on my Vaio.  Very irritating when you are taking a timed exam online!  The Edge isn't as light as a netbook but it is pretty light.  I had a hard time deciding on the S10-3t or the Edge (as is evidenced by my posts on these boards--very embarrassing!!).  I am very glad I changed my mind and ordered this one.  I have the AMD Neo X2 L325 (1.5mhz) so I can't help with your question about the 1.3.  What I can tell you is that I haven't had a single issue with hanging.  This machine is very responsive.  I have a Thinkpad z60m.  The keyboard layout seems very similar to me.  I haven't had any trouble acclimating.  AND I LOVE this keyboard.  It has a better feel than the z60m, and that's saying something!  Prior to using this Edge, the Z60m was my favorite keyboard hands down.  I write quite bit (English/Communications major) and this keyboard is very comfortable. Battery power is pretty good.  I'm sure you'd get a lot more out of a netbook. I hope that helps a little. Karen

Hi,I am very interesting in  buying a Thinkpad Edge 15.6"  but  I have read that some people  feel that the keyboard is a little bit too flexible due to the built in DVD drive.Have Lenovo made anything about this?Feed back from an Edge owner or Lenovo would be appreciated. I also see that Lenovo  in one of the web pages calls the Edge the "new 15.6" .What is new? RegardsStefan

Recently, my HDD has begun to grind to a halt on my Thinkpad Edge e420. I decided to replace the HDD to an SSD, and after many, many unsuccessful attempts to reinstall the OS via Rescue and Recovery, cloning the drive etc, I decided to install the OS onto the new SSD using a windows disk. While this seems to have worked, I now no longer have any of the preinstalled Lenovo software. This is disappointing, but also seems to have reduced the functionality of the laptop (eg the networking device is no longer recognised).Could anyone please recommend a method of reinstalling the Lenovo software onto this new SSD.

Answer:Thinkpad Edge 420 HDD to SSD

Windows 7 right? Download ThinkVantage System Update, it should download most of the drivers and applicable softwares for your E420.

just recently bought my first laptop and got good recommendations on lenovo...however i have found everything else to be fairly frustrating. There are no instructions regarding inital battery setup to ensure lengevity in the box. i called customer service. i looked online. they directed me to go back online and read a manual which still did not have the proper information and was organized extremely poorly. basically im just venting a little about my lack of satisfaction and wondering how to get the most out of battery/. I have looked everywhere.

Answer:New Thinkpad edge 14

New owner here also. There was limited documentation in the box, and on the last pages of something that looked like generic policy / license info, I found a few basic instructions. Of note, the battery may not have full capacity until it has been fully charged and discharged for several cycles. Agreed documentation is not the best, but everything is pretty straightforward, except detailed configurations, which is always trial and error. So far, I really like the notebook.

Question: Thinkpad Edge 525

Hi,i had a problem with the monitor backlight on my E525. It went totally gone and i needed a flashlight to see anything. I deinstalled the graphics drivers and it was fine again. I just see everything in 1024*786 and it says "standard vga graphics card" because i have no driver. Now i want to reinstall the Lenovo drivers, but on the homepage i dont find the graphic drivers for E525.Can anyone help? Thanks alot!

Answer:Thinkpad Edge 525

Hi, startrip

I think I found what you're looking for. This is the driver for the AMD graphics that your computer uses. To find drivers on Lenovo's site easily, go to support.lenovo.com, click on Driver Matrix, select the line of computer you have (ThinkPad, ThinkCentre, etc.) and then select your system.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Hello, I am going to be using this laptop for Senior School, already 1 term in and am hating the laptop we recieved 2 years ago. I would prefer if a Lenovo Staff or Moderator can confirm if this is possible to buy as it's not on the Customize page. With the 14" model, I can get the 9 cell battery option but no choice of the Intel Centrino Advanced 6200N wireless card, and with the 15" model I can't get either. I know it's possible to use that card with the edge, but why isn't it avaialable to choose? The same with the 15" with a 9 cell battery option? Cheers, Matt. [This is from the Australian Store]

Question: Thinkpad Edge 14

I've recently received my Edge 14 and upon unboxing, I noticed the top of the laptop (the back of the screen) is curved.  I've seen countless videos and customer photos of their Edge and have not seen this on their's.  The curved screen is very noticeably.  You can also see that the speakers are curved as well due to it.  Does anyone know if its suppose to be like this?  If not then do you think I can get a full refund and none of that 15% restocking free junk?  Besides, I don't think I'm at fault here but rather who ever built the thing.  I am fairly disappointed to see this because I hear Thinkpads are quality built.  This is my first Thinkpad and my first impression was it is just another cheaply made laptop.  I've also bought the sleeve for this and that doesn't even fit properly.  Theres a huge gap when you place the laptop in.

Answer:Thinkpad Edge 14

Hello mate, Can you take a photo of your laptop ?And for the sleeve, it's because you've got the room for the AC adapter.

I purchased my R-61 from Buy.com on 5/5/2008 and received it 5 days later on 5/10/2009. Friday afternoon (5/ 8/2009) my computer went down and will not boot or anything. I checked online (using my model and serial #) and learned that Lenovo says my warranty began 3/23/2008, the date of manufacture, but since that was 2 months before I even ordered or received my computer that seems a bit unfair. Can anyone tell me if my warranty has really expired, if it starts when I place the order, or starts when I actually receive the computer from the retailer from who I purchased it? Thanks,BobWaxahachie, TX

Answer:Warranty Start Date for ThinkPad?

Welcome to the forum! You might have a good case to get your machine serviced under warranty if you have the paperwork proving that you bought the machine as brand new on the given date. Normally, the warranty period begins when the unit gets shipped. Having said that, I've never purchased a new ThinkPad from a place like Buy.com so I wouldn't know how Lenovo would treat such a purchase. Good luck.

I need to restore a Thinkpad (type-2378) T41, to an earlier date or factory settingHow do i do it?

Answer:How do i restore Thinkpad to an earlier date

If you want to restore to earlier date, you need to have a backup of the system if you do it should be say in rescue and recovery, if you want to restore to factory setting, you must boot into rescue and recovery by pressing the blue IBM button on the keyboard during booting, then selecting restore to factory setting. If you don't have either of this, you can still get the recovery media to restore to factory setting from Lenovo/IBM service, but a service charge of around 50 USD will be charged.

I recently got a new HP 15 notebook and i noticed that the estimated battery time remaining has been acting strange. When the battery is at 99%, the estimated time is 5 hours but at 98%, its 7 hours; and it's not always 7, I've seen 9 as well. The point is, my laptop has been miscalculating the estimated battery time by a lot.

I?ve just bought a Satellite M70-144 and have a question regarding running on battery

When running on battery the remaining running time on battery is only displayed in percent in Toshiba Power Saver. On my old Toshiba notebook and on other notebooks I?ve used, the remaining battery time is also displayed in estimated hours and minutes.

Is this a general ?feature? of the M70 and is there a way to fix this?

Regards
Peter

Answer:Sat-M70: Estimated remaining time on battery

Hi

As far as I know if you want to see the working time of battery so you have to disconnect the Ac adapter. Wait a moment and go with the courser over the battery.
The little window with the working time should appear.
If you will not see this information at the first time so try it again.

I own a Lumia 930. Yesterday I was downloading some games and apps while it recharged, when I take off the recharger the estimated time of battery was only 12 hours!!! Before it was 24h... And my consumption of the phone keep the same...
Please please can someone help???

Answer:reduction on the battery estimated of Lumia 930

The time left estimate can be ignored since it attempts to predict usage.
Keep going, maybe it'll become more accurate, maybe the 24 hours was wrong, or right...
TL;DR, don't bother too much over that counter, bother over the phone's actual performance.

Answer:ThinkPad Edge 15: GPU overheats

hi svlad,

thanks for posting. Sorry to hear about the issue you're facing but based from your post it does appear that you've had your machine for some time. Over a certain about of time, Dust can also build up in the vents and propellar of the fan which can cause low air transfer flow out of the machine. You might want to check that out. I believe you are an experience enough person to disassemble your machine as you did mention that you have previously changed the thermal compound. please view the link below on the instruction of cleaning the fan.

Hi,Does anyone have any idea why Lenovo hasn't updated the Intel gma drivers for the 13" edge? The 8.15.10.1872 that Lenovo provides is over 2 years old and doesn't have flash hardware decoding for example. For a laptop with such a slow CPU, GPU hw decoding would be great. The about:support in Firefox says: GPU Accelerated Windows 0. Blocked for your graphics driver version. Try updating your graphics driver to version 8.15.10.2202 or newer. I tried downloading the newest driver from Intel's site but the installer said I need to download the "manufacturer specific" driver cause "something might break". If anyone from Lenovo reads this, please get your driver team to update the drivers  //Oldgrain

Answer:Thinkpad Edge 13 GPU drivers

So, it's been ~3 months, no one has answered this and there has been no driver updates. Does anyone know of a better way to get attention from Lenovo about driver updates as it seems they're not reading this forum/acting on it at all. The newer edge versions have updated drivers so I can't figure out why it is so hard to get newer drivers for the old model as well. I even tried downloading the updated driver for E430 but they wouldn't install either. Hoping someone from Lenovo would read this and at least answer it.

My 1 and a half year old thinkpad edge E520 over heated. it was only 5-6 months over the warranty. I am personally dissapointed that my computer only lasted that extremely short amount of time. I paid $800 dollars for that computer and honestly expected to get more life out of it. Some other issues I had with this computer were a hard drive problem and an optical drive problem. I was wondering if these are due to flaws in this particular model or my bad luck.

Question: Thinkpad Edge E540

I have an interesting situation, just bought this laptop literally a week ago and noticed this happens on a very frequent basis. Right now the trackpoint is disabled and touchpad is enabled. So that makes the lower right hand corner the right click and the remainder the left click. Well at randomn times the entire touchpad will become a right click and will stay right click. No matter where I click on the touchpad the pop up menu will display. I also noticed that when this happens the touchpad is very sensitive, if i place a finger on it and stay there it will move around the screen. It is completly random there is no consistency what so ever. Anyone have any suggestions. When this happened, I have managed to get to the mouse properties and nothing has changed. A restart will not fix the issue. It has to be a shutdown then turn on again to fix the issue.

Question: Thinkpad Edge E520

After a few months of very little use only using it once a week or less to watch a movie my laptop refuses to power on. I checked my A/C adapter with a multimeter and its showing normal 20V. Hey So I've had my Thinkpad Edge 14 since the end of last summer.  I keep putting this off but now it has gotten to the point where I am sick of it.  Here is my problem: I plug my Thinkpad Edge 14 into the charger, which is obviously plugged into an outlet.  Usually it's while the system is still running but lately I've tried shutting it down first.  Now, about 1-2 minutes after I plug the laptop in, the CPU starts to FREAK OUT.  I have Rainmeter set up so I can keep track of my CPU/RAM/network and such.  So my little graph of my CPU starts to spike and it goes from 0% -> 26% -> 0% -> 78% -> 100% ->0% and so on and so forth.  This doesn't happen over time, this happens constantly.  The CPU just keeps jumping and dropping.  This kills my performance.  Everything becomes jumpy and slow.  Opening a folder or my browser (which should take 2 seconds, if that) now takes about a minute.  Before, I was able to just turn off my laptop and turn it back on, no problems.  Now, I turn it off and turn it on 3-4 times and it is still jumping so I just let it sit there till the machine is charged.  I've gotten into the habit of just charging it overnight just so I don't have to deal with it in the morning.  I haven't a clue what is wrong or how to stop it.  This also has nothing to do with going to the Task Manager and ending a few processes.  I've tried and it does nothing. I'm... Hi, I have just bought a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 11 with Intel Core i3-380um. But the fan is really noisy and annoying in Windows :-/ Can this really be true? I have have tried powersaver modes etc. but it is still noisy. And furthermore, I have tried installing Ubuntu (where it is still very noisy) so I could see what was going on with the fan. And it seems that the lowest level (from 0-7) where the fan is still operating is 5 which is 500 RPM. When on level 4, it completely stops. 500 RPM does not seem to be very fast so I wonder what is going on. Anyone with similar problem or do I have a broken laptop? Best regards, Lasse
