Preferred Solution: Lenovo software update only shows startup-screen! dit every patch and stuff I could find!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lenovo software update only shows startup-screen! dit every patch and stuff I could find!

What version of ThinkVantage System Update are you running? Is this a recent problem?

There was a problem with the initial 5.0 release a while back that exhibited this issue, due to some confusion about which .NET version it was using.

Try uninstalling TVSU, rebooting, then reinstalling the version in the driver matrix.

Hey guys, Don't know if any of you will be able to answer this, but if I was the remove all of the lenovo software from my system (access connector, easyeject utility, etc), will an update (using lenovo update) find all of the software again (latest versions and correct operating system, etc) and allow me to install them once more? I ask this as I have updated from windows vista to windows 7 and am having a couple of problems in regards to shutting down the computer (a 'force close' box appears every now and then, prompting me to click 'force close' before I can shutdown). I'm pretty sure this is a lenovo software problem as everyone else I know who isn't on a thinkpad does not experience this problem and I have barely any software on here apart from the updates and mozilla firefox. Any help will be appreciated. Cheers,Ritchie

Answer:Will the lenovo update find all the software I need?

Which program does it show during the force close prompt? You can find all the required lenovo apps for your system in the download matrix

Hello everyone, I have a problem with my Lenovo G500s  1.1 years (1 year & 1 month). It worked perfectly until last month. It started to freeze. I restarted the computer (btw I was using licenced win8 back then) and then the lenovo logo showed up and it stuck there. I was waiting for about 10 minutes, but nothing happened. I turned it off manually, and then turned it on,it was still frozen. after some trial of startup,  it worked normally. After 2 days it happened again. I thought it was the system, so I deleted the windows8 and installed windows8.1 licensed, it worked for a month and then again (last night) it just freezes at startup (lenovo logo shows up). Till now its frozen. I restarted it several times, it didnt work. I also pulled out battery & started on AC power which didnt work too. Obviously, i dont have warranty. Does anyone knows what could be the possible problem? I dont Know what to do. plz help...Thanks in advance!

Hi AIS,

Welcome to Lenovo forums

As I understood that you are facing the issue with the laptop hanging at the Lenovo logo.

As this is the issue with the hard drive, i would like to suggest you to remove the HDD if possible and try to boot the system to the BIOS.

Hope this helps! Do post us back for further queries.

So now that M$ won't allow us to update computers more than 90 days without updates, it concerns me that my OKR will one day be useless. In the past, my images have failed to load and I have been forced to install the factory image. However, that factory image will one day be more than 90 day old. Is there a way to provide M$ updates to the ONR image? If not, then what is the point of waisting SDD space on these images that won't be updatable.

Answer:@Lenovo, May we be offered a OKR update patch?

Not sure I understand correctly - do you mean that if 90 days has passed without updating your laptop then you won't get any more updates and it won't be possible to update it??You mean the Windows Update won't work any more? Are you sure about this? This would basically mean that any backup, made with ANY backup program, which is older than 90 days, would become worthless, impossible to update after restoring it.I don't think this can be possible.Re something else - you say you OKR has failed to restore your OKR images? Was it because of some problem or hardware change, or simply OKR didn't work?Just so I know, whether to rely on OKR as a backup solution or not...

This may sound kind of strange, after installing a srcurity patch from Windows Update, I restarted the PC , the BIOS was being updated. I had no way of knowing this going happen. After the update the monitor shut off and the PC continued to run. After a hard shutdown and restart nothing, no power indicator, just the fans running. I called Tect support, a Tech will do an on-site repair.

Answer:Patch Tuesday update broke Lenovo pc (H50-55)

Hello Win10User,

I am sorry to read of your problem. In order for me to understand what happened, I have a few questions:
Are you running Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro?
Was your Windows 10 an upgrade from an earlier OS?
Do you recall exactly which security patch you installed prior to the BIOS being updated?

Two days ago having read about the GameOver Zeus virus thing, I downloaded a piece of software from my current Antivirus Kasperksy to run and check for the potential problem.  The software downloaded and I activated it and immediately got a BLUE SCREEN.  I have not been able to use my laptop since.  I have tried allowing it to do a system repair on reboot and it takes 15-20 mins to go through the process and that says it is unable to repair automatically and gives me the option to report to Microsoft or Not and then continues...only to once again blue screen. HELP!?

After my computer started going into hibernation w/o any reason and during work last week I decided to install all new Windows and Lenovo updates and at the end update the BIOS. Everything went fine until my computer rebooted during flashing the BIOS. Since I get past loading the BIOS/ the Thinkpad screen I guess flashing the BIOS went fine, but on booting Windows I get a blue screen telling me to"Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run chkdsk /f to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer"Having had the auto-hibernation problem, I already did check for viruses before installing and I didnt install any new hardware either. I ran a full checkup of my hard drive using PC Doctor and it didn't show anything out of the ordinary.  Unfortunately I can't remember all the Lenovo updates I installed but I think "Fix for issue of HDD with HD detection for Windows 7 and Vista - Notebooks" might have been one of them. Is there a way to get a list of newly installed (Lenovo) software using "Rescue and Recovery" ? Or would it just be enough to re-install said update from a USB-device? I hope someone can help, thanks in advance

Answer:T61p: (hard drive) blue screen on auto-reboot after lenovo software/BIOS-update

I forgot to add the tech info given in the blue screen, it's STOP: 0x0000007b (0x80599BB0, 0xc0000034, 0X00000000,0X00000000) so basically my computer can't access the boot device. The question now is, is there a way to install a new or the old hard drive controller/driver in "Rescue and Recovery" or is it better to run a partly recovery of my OS?

Hopefully some one from Lenovo will see this: we are a small company handling support to private end users, and small business customers, located in Denmark.Since Friday the 16th october 2015, and for the past 24 hrs. we had calls from more than 50 customers where the computer after rebooting following Updates from Windows update won't boot, and goes directly to UEFI options.I have at this time handled 30 computers personally, and the solution was to recover to the previous restore point and the computer would boot just fine. I can then reboot the computer and work on it fine, until i install the updates from Windows update, and then it won't start up again, and i have to go and restore to pre windows update again. Same computer models running Windows 10 are not affected, it's only Windows 8.1 x64All the computers are laptops from Lenovo series B50 and they are all running Windows 8.1 Home x64 Danish. If i do a factory reset of the computer, and start installing updates everything is fine until i install the updates from latest "Patch Tuesday" - still haven't had time to look into exactly which update are the "BAD ONE".I have though testet on 8 computers, that if i take a clean Windows 8.1 downloaded from MSDN, without any Lenovo Drivers / Bloatware, there is no issue, the updates go through without problems. This tells me there is some of the Lenovo software / drivers on the B50 Series, that doesn't handle the latest patches very well.I'll u... Hello every one,

I have a problem. When I turn the power on to my PC, I get the screen that says:

We apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start succesfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.

If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut to protect your files and folders, choose last known good configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked.

If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the power or reset button was pressed, or if you arent sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows normally.

Safe Mode

Safe Mode with Networking

Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Last Know Good Configuration ( your most recent settings that worked)

Start Windows Normally

Now when I choose Start Windows Normally and Last Known Good Config. All is does is bring me right back to this screen.

When I choose Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking and Safe Mode with command prompt: I get some lines that look l;ike this:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\Windows\AppPat ch\drvmain.sdb

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partiiton(2)\Windows\system 32\DRIVERS\ACPI.sys

And so on, the whole screen then fills up with these similar lines, then goes back to the same screen that prompts me to choose one of the options.

If I can get some help Please I would really appreciate

Lenovo System Update tells me that all is up to date! I searched at Lenovo for new drivers for windows 8.1They asked me exactly what notebook I use. For the x1 carbone 3460-4LG (checked 3 times because I couldn't believe it) they discribed my computer as:i7-3667U(3.2GHz), 4GB RAM, 256GB Solid State Drive, 14in 1600x900 LCD, Intel HD Graphics, Intel 802.11agn wireless, WWAN, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure Chip, 4c Li-Ion, Win8 Pro 64. My notebook has 8GB RAM, 180GB SSD and (as I believe) no carbone x1 has 1GB Ethernet, because it has no network connector at all! So first question: can I believe the suggestions of lenovo for new drivers? There are several drivers released in October 2013 that I surely do not have already installed. That means, Lenovo System Update doesn't work any more, without error message! Question two: Has Lenovo a solution to repair their defective updater? Or will they release a solution? Very disappointed regards.Alex

Answer:After Win 8.1 update - Lenovo System Update defective (doesn't find updates any more)

Yes we have the same Problem with Thinkpad x230, T530 and W530. Under Windows 8.1 System Update doesen't find any drivers. So now we have to download every single driver..... I hope really Lenovo will find a solution very soon......

My laptop Z50-70 had one problem with it, since day one: The screen showed the white colour as yellowish. I thought it was something that is common to all such machines, so I compensated it by using Color Management in Windows to decrease yellow's intensity. There's a yellowish tint to theRecently I saw a friend's Lenovo Z50-70 without the same yellow tint. As it turns out his screen showed normal white normally. So I chatted with Customer Care and they asked me to send pictures of my screen's white. I did, but they said it's not noticeable. What should I do?I have reset my PC, reinstalled all the proper drivers at the right time, and nothing seems to improve.

Answer:Lenovo Z50-70 Screen shows white as yellowish

Its a common problem with the Y50 as well. I have two friends who purchased Y50's alongside me. One purchsed the 48hz screen locked 2014 UHD model. His colours look great on the IPS dispaly yet his refresh rate is locked to 48hz so literally any FPS game is hindered.Another has the 2014 FHD Y50 Touch model. His whites look like yellows and his yellows look like mustard. And finally me, the 2014 FHD Y50 Non-Touch. It has an AU pannel, full 60hz and literally ALL my colours are off compared to just about any other display in the house. Whites are white, blues are slight off. Bright yellows start turning orange. Reds look orange.. Etc.. By defualt, the colours on my laptop were very de-saturated. After bumping it up in intel's control pannel and turning down gamma by one knotch, i've gotten an "Acceptable" result.Anyways.. Just check what pannel your friend has in his Z50-70 (you can use software to find this). Then when your warrenty ends, purchase that panel and swap it out with the one you currently have. I've seen side by side comparison videos regarding this issue on my laptop and the replacement pannel looks about 40% better. Mainly because the current AU pannel i have only re produces an embarassing 60% of Adobe RGB.

iTunes 12.5x will not install on my Windows 10 desktop. I download the latest iTunes version and then get the error below, multiple times.

I read up on the error. The recommendation to cure the problem was to go to Programs, Uninstall, but instead Repair the Apple Software Update application.

I tried that, right-clicked to Repair ASU, but then I got a message saying that ASU was already uninstalled. I cannot now find Apple Software Update application to re-install it. I've looked all over the Apple and Windows download systems. No luck.

Can anyone help me with this problem ?

Thanks,

Answer:Cannot update/repair or find Apple Software Update for Windows 10

I had problems with Apple Update - see my post 16 at Apple Software Update Server Error

Use the link there to download a version of iTunes containing the version of Apple Update you want. Else you could just download the current version of iTunes if that's the version you want. Use 7 Zip or a similar utility to extract Apple Update from the iTunes .exe file and you can then install the version of Apple Update you want. I never did find a direct download for Apple Update but this workaround works fine.

hi JerryO,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Have you tried a power drain,
Remove the AC adapter and the Battery
Hold the Power Button down for at least 15 sec.
Reconnect Just the AC alone and check if it will turn on
If not
Can you try
From OFF state Press the Onekey Recovery Button and see if that will make any difference.

If still nogo
Try Removing and Reseating the RAM / Memory and try the Memory Module on a diff slot.
Also Try REmoving the HDD and try turning it on

See if any will make any difference on how it boots up.

hope this helps
Cheers!

Okay, So I have been busy trying to get my old laptop started up again.
When I start it up, it does the usual stuff, it shows the logo. But then a blue screen flashes before my eyes. And it restarts again.

Now, I have gone through multiple things to try and fix the problem, but I just can't seem to resolve it.
I have tried safe mode but the same thing occurs. [blue screen]
Then I tried to start up the laptop with the f8 option called "start up using settings from last succesful startup" (Roughly translated out of Dutch)
but this also failed and the same thing happens. Then I tried to go to the "recover your computer" option, of which I still remember that from there you can set back your laptop or pc to the factory settings, something that I wouldn't mind because I just want the laptop to start. I don't care if I can recover the files that used to be on it. This also fails, but this one is a bit strange, because when I select the "recover your computer" option it goes to a normal windows screen, no text shows up or anything. Just my cursor and a nice shiny loading background screen of windows. It feels like I have tried everything and I've looked at other posts on the site but I just can't seem to fix it, mostly because I cannot set the laptop back to factory settings, because of the shiny blue loading screen without text, which is all I want.

I figured out how read the blue screen that flashes up (not the shiny loading screen) so here it i... Read more

hi lookupramesh,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

It looks like there's an imminent problem on the LCD's backlight. Can you try to:
1. Perform a cold shutdown
2. Turn the computer ON and press the F2 button to boot into the BIOS
3. In the BIOS, press F9 to reset settings to default then oress F10 to save and exit. (this will reload the hardware configurations to default).

If you still get the same issue, you may need to contact lenovo for service.

As in the title. Have POST, and Windows XP splash bootup screen. But nothing more. Safe mode works. Graphics card is good under Ubuntu even with 3D effects. I suspect a virus as AVG was warning me, but it only said "potentially unwanted program." So is there anything I can do to fix this?

Answer:POSTs and shows XP logo on startup, but left with black screen on desktop/login

Hey folks!    I am setting up a new XP image for my company. I installed a pretty vanilla Windows XP with SP3 and such, but now I am looking for the Lenovo Camera Center software. I have already installed the driver itself, but all I can find online related to the actual Camera Center program is complaints. Personally, I haven't had any issue with the software and the camera seems to work fine on these T500's. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I don't realy feel comfortable downloading it from a source outside of Lenovo, but I can if I have to other choice.

Answer:Trying to find Lenovo Camera Center software

On original install, try to look for it under C:\SWTools or in C:\Program Files\Lenovo\Camera Center.

Good morning, Just bought X301 from eBay (2777CTO) and made clean install of Win 7 (originally it came with Vista). Following instructions on lenovo webpages I 've installed ThinkVantage toolbox via System Update. It got standard set of lenovo software (diagnostic, performance tuning, power management, etc), Then I begun reading about Intel Centrino 2 vPro platform and realized that there should be more Lenovo tools to take advantage of the platform functionality. Found couple extra, for instance,  "Client security solution" 1_ Where I can find all relevant Lenovo software tools for my particular model? 2_ How I determine whether notebook has 3G capability? Thankscherno

Answer:How to find all Lenovo relevant software for X301

Hello,

As I understand it, model types ending in -CTO are a Configure-To-Order system, which means they are customized at checkout by the purchaser.  That said, you can find all of the possible device drivers for this configuration at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/quickPath.do?quickPathEntry=2777CTO on the support web site.

If you just want to install the device drivers automatically, though, instead of downloading and installing each one manually, you can download and run the ThinkVantage System Update program, which will automatically detect and install any missing device drivers?including those for a 3G modem, if installed?as well as anyThinkPad-specific programs.

Backstory: I finally got around to performing some updates on my X230 that I usually keep on internal LAN running machines.  It has Win 7 Pro SP1 installed and I checked the update for KB2459268 through Lenovo's recommended software update at the time and thought nothing of it when everything installed and updated properly.  Restarting my machine and RDP to a host and everything worked as normal.  Then putting the X230 to sleep and.... the screen went off like normal, the power button did the usual beating light like normal, but the computer did not sleep!  It kept running and worst yet, did not respond whatsoever to ANY keyboard input, ctrl alt del, esc, power button, nothing!!!  I finally had to force shutdown and figured, probably a glitch.  Did the same process again and yep, it seemed to sleep.  Woke it up, tried it again, and sure enough, same issue (no sleep and no response). I kept getting the same issue for the next week so finally I did a clean install with Win 7 SP1 on a wiped drive, ran the lenovo software update with the KB checked, and tried it again.  SAME ISSUE!!!!  Now I was sure it wasnt a driver issue, and probably not hardware (I guess it could be).  So I uninstalled the KB from programs and features yesterday and the 4x times I used it, no issue.  Leads me to think there is something going on with the KB. How to replicate:Install KB.  Log into an RDP server using the X230.  Issue s... This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix. Uninstall it. Hello,

After viewing some great tech support on your forum today that looked like a similar problems I am having, I decided to join the site in hopes of getting the same help.

I went ahead and made a log1, log and info files via that .bat file mentioned in someone elses topic but I also read that I'm not suppose to post any of that until asked. Sooo... I'll wait. :0)

Problems? Well, Avast seems to have more more traces off the viruses I mentioned in the description however I am still unable to update any malware/spyware protection software in order to run it on this laptop; moreover I am unable to get to the windows update page to try to update the computer... the owner of this laptop said they received an update from windows about a month ago.

When I click on the windows update from my programs files, I get directed to google search instead. :0( Before running the avast(avg was installed before but stopped responding) I would get directed to a depression website when trying to type in microsoft.com

Pleaaaaaaaaaaassseee send help.

I'm on windows xp 2002 home edition service pack 3. Thank you

Answer:Windows updates shows google search instead, can't update any spyware, malware software, can't download/install programs...

I recently got a Lenovo Z70 Intel i5 laptop which runs on Windows 8.1.

I set a restore point and began to delete some Lenovo preinstalled software. A day or two later at startup when I went to the Windows sign-in page, an error message would show up that says "An unknown error has detected." This keeps showing up at startup but all I have to do is x is out fortunately. Still, it is annoying and I'm not sure if it's affecting my computer otherwise.

I did a system restore back to before I uninstalled software and even though the programs had returned, I continued to get this message. I attempted a system restore again but there was an error due to a firewall.

Other than the error that comes up everytime at startup, I cannot seem to uninstall any Lenovo preinstalled software (Lenovo messenger, Phone Companion, etc.). Whenever I uninstall a program, it seems to come up next time I start up the laptop or it'll still be installed at the Windows start screen.

How do I fix these issues and are these issues at all related? Thank you!

My sister asked me to update her laptop (Toshiba Satellite Pro C660D-1GR; from Windows 7 pro (64-bit) to Windows 10 pro (64-bit).
So I did.

Then I went to Toshiba's UK website to check if there were any drivers I needed to install for Windows 10. The only one was a BIOS update (to BIOS v1.70). I have no idea what the previous BIOS version number was.

So I run the update application within Windows 8. Phoenix Technologies WinPhlash starts and then halfway through the update, the whole thing freezes.

The trackpad wouldn't move the cursor or anything. I had no option but to unplug the laptop from the wall and remove the battery. The laptop is not under warranty.

Of course, now it won't turn on. It beeps once when I press the power button, but the system doesn't turn on. A couple of minutes later, it sounds one long beep then two short beeps. It then keeps repeating this "one long beep, two short beeps" sequence every couple of minutes.

I have Googled and read website after blog after forum post, but nothing works. The links to the software suggested on these websites/blogs/forums are usually dead, so I cannot try what they suggest.

The most common solution is the Phoenix Crisis Recovery Tool. I have managed to download v1.0.0.4 which is supposed to enable me to make a bootable USB key. The version of this tool that I have downloaded is meant to be for a Lenovo ThinkPad X200. I have the correct BIOS.rom for the Satellite Pro C660 (which I hav... Read more

I have a very strange problem. My home computer runs on Win XP Home edition with SP2 and IE 6. I have two user accounts in this computer (both have administrative rights). In one account, everything works fine. In the other one, when I opened the Windows Update, I got a blank screen.

I can upgrade from IE 6 to IE 7.0 (from a CD) with the good user account, and the newly installed IE 7 worked fine in the good account, but not in the bad account--streaming images were not shown correctly, they appeared as a black box. However, when I tried to upgrade from the bad account (first uninstall and then reinstall IE7.0 from the same CD), I got an error message that installation could not be completed. Microsoft put IE 6 pack and created a link called "Internet Explorer Troubleshooting" on my desktop. When I double clicked on the link, it gave me a warning "http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?=linkid=63939. This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder option control panel". I have no idea what program to associate it with. Please help.

Also it is very puzzling for me, since I used the same file IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe for IE 7 installation, how come the computer could successfully read linkid=63939 in one case but not the other?

Answer:Solved: Windows Update shows a blank screen in IE6

I did not realized that this problem of not being able to view the Windows Update webpage was due to corrupted WinXP system files, which was repaired by Windows File Protection, by running "sfc /scannow" at the command line.

Thanks to the helpful suggestions I received from members of this Forum, especially MCSA and Bernardus, and ozrom1e, from Start->run-> I typed "sfc /scannow" (without using the Restoration CD), and in just 5 minutes, all my problems are solved. System Restore works, all my user accounts are good, Windows Update screen comes out nicely in all of them, I can upgrade to IE 7, the streaming images are displayed nicely, and I can print webpages and Eudora emails from any user accounts. It is simply great!!! I do not need to reformat my hard drive. I do not need to reinstall WinXP or any software programs on my computer. "sfc /scannow" works like magic, it repaired my corrupted Win XP system files in a flash!!!

PS. In order to avoid the use of Restoration CD for "sfc /scannow" repair, I followed the instruction on http://www.updatexp.com\scannow-sfc.html.
I navigated to the location in my registry to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSFT\Windows\CurrentVersion\SetUp
and set SourcePath (in the right panel) to C:\, since I have the folder i386 in my C drive.

Happy Kathy

I install windows8 in my system the wireless keyboard and mouse working for some days ..but now they does''nt work. I press the Bluetooth button from backside the computer for 2 sec and then try to connect with keyboard and mouse .. pressing the connect button at keyboard and mouse .. it doesn't work.. when I press the keyboard mouse button backside of computer no wizard shows on the screen.. please help me regarding this .....

Answer:lenovo ideapad B320 Wireless Keyboard & mouse not working no wizard shows on the screen

I have a b320 and have never gotten a wizard or any inidication on the screen.  Press button on back, then button on keyboard and mouse.  Mine was rather erratic at firts.  You might also try rebooting if you haven't. If none of that works go to control panel/device manager and find the bluetooth and or keyboard/mouse and right click and ask to update driver and allow the computer to look on the internet for a driver. One of the problems with windows 8 on the B320 is the bluetooth isn't compatible but it loads drivers that work. You will find that the touch screen does not have some of the features it had in 7 and swiping from the side may not work, and the tv may or may not work and there are no new drivers available.

My LENOVO FLEX 2 14" - model type :80FJJCT0My laptop display doesn't show any picture.Remains dark.  When the Laptop is connected through HDMI port to external TV , display apprears there.  How can i fix the labtop LCD display screen or labtop?.

Answer:LENOVO Flex 2 14" - screen remains dark - When external LCD connected through HMDI , display shows.

Hi RDATA34 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Try to access the BIOS by turning off the system and using the novo button (item 7 page 68) to turn on.
This should offer the Novo menu screen and operates outside windows.
Pressing caps lock on and off would likewise respond and connecting to an external would produce display.
Such condition isolates the LCD as point of failure.

You can reseat (unplug and replug the LCD cable page 60) or have the LCD panel tested with available service center to verify the integrity of the LCD unit itself.

Hope this help answer your query.
Update us how it goes.

I have looked through the board and also seen this issue mentioned previously in this thread, where the OP also mentioned other users with this issue. I don't have much hope for a resolution, but I thought I'd post just in case someone would be able to provide additional insight. I purchased my U410 (no touch) in the Lenovo Outlet about 1.5 years ago refurbished, and it was working like a dream for the most part until this incident. I noticed yesterday evening that as I was using Chrome, my computer began to slow down drastically between switching tabs in the browser and applications on the bar, until the computer completely froze. Thinking it was just a regular crash, I held down the button for 30+ at which time the screen did not darken. After leaving it for a couple of minutes, I tried again and pulled out the power outlet and it finally powered down. When I powered the computer up again, the screen was backlit and I could hear the fans running, but no visual output. I also do not see the Lenovo logo screen, so I have no option to boot to BIOS. Troubleshooting already performed:I have performed the following troubleshooting tests:- Powering on / off- Powering off after disconnecting the power source / powering on with the source plugged in Troubleshooting not already performed:- BIOS, because I cannot see the Lenovo screen on startup- taking out the battery, because it is encased in the back, so I would have to take th... Answer:U410 Black Screen / No Visual Output, No Lenovo Screen on startup

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Try unplugging the charger and then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.  After you are done then plug in the charger if needed and see if the laptop will power up normally.

If it didn't, anything else beyond what I mentioned above will require the opening of the back of the computer and the removal of various hardware components to try and remedy the problem.  If you are looking into your credit card's extended warranty then further disassembly of the laptop may not be something you wish to do.

For local service on your laptop try the locator website.  After entering in your city and checking the box for Warranty Service Provider you can then search for a local Lenovo authorized service repair center near you.  Just use this link to find a local facility.....

Hello,I have had to recently wipe my computer (X220 thinkpad) due to issues with Win 10 upgrade & although I have an initial state recovery disk, I don't want to use this due to software installed later. My question is, all I can find now in 2016 are windows 10 apps & even though people consider initial Lenovo software bloatware, I found certain components incredibly useful like the power manager. As an eg, The new power manager comes wrapped in a Win 10 gui app (yuck) with nothing but 'special' icons for Lenovo users and the minute I want to go advanced I'm dealing with Windows control panel again.I especially liked being able to control parameters like fan speed, graphics, dimming etc.If anyone remembers the initial software, they will know what I'm talking about.  I cannot find this anywhere on Lenovo download site for my system and am wondering if there's any way to recover such software.Software I would like back but cannot find for X220.  Running 64 bit on Win 10 ProLenovo fingerprint managerLenovo webcam mgrLenovo power mgrLenovo Network mgr Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!!

I have been noticing for a long while on my optional updates - "Display - Mobile Intel (R) 4 Series chipset family"

it showed update was released some where around June 2011, so I thought lemme do this one & installed it on Dec 24th.

this one to be exact: http://winqual.microsoft.com/support/?driverid=20411791

While installing the script, everything zoomed in by around 500% percent may be, then it turned normal. In between, I ha couple of black screens, which I use happens during "graphics card" update (just correct me if I'm wrong). After installation was completed, ... may be after 5-10mins, I had another black screen, I thought may be something failed or system went in for a reboot only for my surprise to see the screen back. This didn't repeat again though, thankfully.

Now ever since this update, while booting the system... after the window logo page, I get black screen for a short while, before I get Please wait, welcome page.. which keeps me guessing whether system turned off or restarted or its due to my current issues.

Not only this, while opening up some scripts which asks for permission to run the file ... for example when I try to open Command Prompt as Admin (to run sfc), screen goes into black screen & then flashes back with a few secs, with a faded screen asking me permission (I meant the regular faded screen, so nothing wrong with that)

Hi JohnCEE,
There does not seem to be a free version of EasyCapture for the Lenovo T430 available for download at this time.
If this software was something preinstalled there is no way to recover it if it is not on the recovery disk.
You may have to use a version of this software provided from the developer?s website.

Yesterday when I shutdown my laptop I got the notification that updates were in progress and not to shut down. After completed I attempted to startup and laptop will not complete startup. After powering up I get past the password log in and the task bar and icons appear. Only a third of the icons are in color the rest are b/w. When I hold the cursor over the task bar I get the working circle and when holding over the icons I get the arrow. After 30 seconds or so the screen flashes on and off as if the laptop is stuck at a point in the process. It never fully starts and flashes until I hit cont/alt/del and power off. Can anyone help?

Hi there is a known issue with some of the Tuesday 12th August updates, I am finding references to this all over the net.
Do you have the rescue disk or other bootable media from when you got the computer?
If so have a look at the "Known Issue 3" on this page, it describes how to get out of the problem, here is the Microsoft page :-

Regarding my ASUS P4P800 Deluxe MOBO...

Recently updated BIOS version from 1010 to 1019...

Now when I boot the machine, I get the regular POST plus a second screen of some VIA RAID utility searching for IDE devices...

Is there anyway to disable this 'scan'??

It's annoying only because I really have no use for it, I do not use RAID.

Everything was working fine before I installed the latest Windows 10 automatic update. Now I can boot to the login screen and things looks good, but after I login I?m stuck on a black screen.

I can see a mouse cursor and if I hit curl+alt+del I immediately get the customary blue screen with options to Lock, Switch User, Sign Out, etc. But if I choose the Task Manager option I go back to the black screen and get a spinning cursor for a few seconds, then it goes back to being a regular cursor and nothing happens. So basically I?m stuck on this black screen. It?s not COMPLETELY black, since I can see the cursor, I just can?t go anywhere.

I can also, sort of, boot into safe mode. After login I?m on a black screen that says ?safe mode? in the corner and I see black and white Windows start button in the bottom left. Unfortunately, moving the cursor anywhere to the edge of the screen (eg over the Windows start button) shows a spinning cursor and if I click, it says ?The application is not responding. The program may respond again if you wait. Do you want to end the process?? but of course neither option has any effect, it?s always a spinning cursor.

Any ideas?

Win 7 did it, and Win 10 did. I have my downloads go to E:\Downloads, like to keep them separate. Win 10 use to show first the files by date, and then any folders under them. Now it is showing all folders first and then the downloaded files. I have tried everything in the view/group by, and sort by to try and get it back to where it was but no luck. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Answer:File explorer has changed the order it shows stuff

Hello Maddad,

If you have your Downloads folder in "Details" view, click on the "Name" column title bar to have it sorted descending by name.

That should have the files on top, and folders on bottom like below.

Hello everyone, I have been experiencing this problem for quite a while now. My laptop is unable to do automatic software and driver updates.  Whenever I try to use Lenovo System Update software I get an error that says "An error occurred while downloading packages.) at 15% (Searching: Lenovo Help Center). I tried uninstalling and re-installing. Same thing. I tried also the Automatic Driver Update from Lenovo website and I get "Scan failed", "System Update (TVSU) is failed to upgrade to the latest version". My last solution was to download all drivers manually from Lenovo website and then try to install them one-by-one and see which is the latest version. I would really appreciate any help. Please let me know if you need any additional information. Thanks. Y50-70 Laptop (Lenovo)

I bought my first Lenovo Yoga 900 yesterday from Best Buy. I got a bit lost when I tried to update Lenovo's dirvers and software. I know for Thinkpads a software called "ThinkVantage Sytem Update" can support and maintain the latest drivers, BIOS, and other applications for Think or Lenovo systems. It will issue a notification once there are new versions. I would like to know for Yogas is if there is a automatic or semi-automatic way to do this? Or I have to check it manually on Leovo's support website? Thank you.

Answer:How do I update Lenovo's software and firmware?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Unfortunately you will have to look for newer versions manually as there is no update utility.  One good thing is that the downloads on the download page can be sorted by their release date which can save time, but on a new system you will still have to compare version numbers to what's installed.  There are some of the Lenovo Apps that will notify of newer versions when executed so that may save some time as well.

Well I am new here and have a very small business so trying to do something on a shoe string budget. So looking for a little advice on something.

We broadcast local sports online and use a Windows Media Type encoder to do so but I would like to add to the flavor of the broadcast by finding a way to have simple screen overlay with score and time on games for instance.

So any ideas on how to go about this as I am not much of a techie only know enough to be dangerous so to speak. Thanks for any and all advice.

I have a lenovo G500  model laptop. It has been 3 days since I am getting a problem upon bootup. I am running windows 7 64 bit ultimate. The startup of my laptop gets stuck at the black lenovo splash screen and nothing happens.  I tried the following tricks which sometimes work, sometime not.1. Pressing the recovery button near the power button.2. Taking out my battery and then starting my laptop using the mains power on.3. Resetting my BIOS to the default setting. The problem is occuring every now and then. Is there a permanent solution to fix this problem?

Answer:Startup stuck at Lenovo screen

Hi Archz2,

Welcome to the Forums

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with system hanging at startup at Lenovo screen in your Lenovo G500 laptop.

Boot the system into BIOS and check if the hard drive is detected? If yes run the LSC diagnostics and check for the issue.

Click here for the LSC for windows 7, 8.

Hope this helps. Do post back if the issue persists.

Best regards,

My Mom is having computer problems and I'm no pro! She doesn't know what happened. We would really appreciate help!!!

Turned it on and off a few times, unplugged it, too.

It doesn't boot - just goes to a Lenovo screen.

Tried again while hitting various F keys because I wasn't sure of the right one.

It went to the startup Dev Menu.

I hit escape to boot using defaults and got a blank screen.

Hit ctrl alt del  and esc again because I wasn't sure what to do.

It went to BIOS setup utility screen.  I definitely don't know what to do now!

If this might help - it's a c540 cpu 113-3240  Win 8MM I believe it was upped to 10.

Again, we would truly appreciate any and all help!

Thank you very very much!

Answer:My Lenovo s10 is Stuck on Startup Screen

hi skippy75015,

Can you try to:
1. Remove the AC adapter and battery
2. Remove the HDD (see page 59-61 of the hardware maintenance manual)
3. Reconnect the AC adapter, turn the machine ON and repeatedly tap F2 to access the BIOS. If you get in, press F9 to reset defaults and press F10 to save and exit
4. Turn off the machine and reconnect the HDD and see if Windows loads up.

Let me know your findings

Hello everyone. Few days ago my laptop has made some update itself. And now I got few problems. First I noticed that my Google Chrome started to NOT respond. Then I couldn't even open any Folder on my PC. I tried to reset it with 10 second pressing on/off button. But nothing has changed. On the second day when I tried to zoom in on my Touch Screen, noticed that it doesn't work. Neither does keyboard on screen working. I have reinstalled my PC. Waited for half a day.... and it showed ALPS Apoint2k isn't working. I have tried everything. Downloading new drivers from manufacturer, scaning Windows and all that. Today I found out that there is no Tablet PC settings on my laptop anymore. When writing in Windows Search TABLET PC SETTINGS, it comes that " Tablet Buttons are not installed on this computer" "For more information, check the documentation that came with your computer or go to the computer manufacturer's website" Can anyone help me,please?((

So I turned off my computer today with shutdown and install new updates. This was the last thing I could do before my computer now won't start.

When I then restarted my computer I got to the screen where you log on to your windows with password. There was no box to input my password and then my screen started to blink. I restarted and the same thing happened. I tried starting my computer in safe mode, but the same thing kept happening. I tried to startup repair and recovery from a selected date but this did not work: startrep.exe stopped working and got error messages that it couldnt find files to go back on (somthing about it not finding the files on a spesific adress).

So now i am stuck with an unfixable computer, and I really dont want to wipe it either, nor do i know much about the recovery disk or how to make one.

I did some research on the forums but I did not find a solution exept for wipe. I hope someone knows somthing more than me and is able to help and fix my problem
