Thinkpad E430 Bloatware

Question: Thinkpad E430 Bloatware

I just got my thinkpad and it takes foreverrr to start up because of the bloatware installed on it. Can anyone list me the programs that I can delete that will not harm my computer. Thanks

Relevance 100%
Preferred Solution: Thinkpad E430 Bloatware

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Thinkpad E430 Bloatware

You can run Microsoft Fixit and it will run a scan and prompt you to disable programs (it will list programs that that you can turn off) from running at startup or you can let it automatically select the startup programs that are slowing the process.

Hello Lenovo community! I've had a Thinkpad for years now - it's old enough it still says IBM Thinkpad - and it's time for a new computer, so I'll be ready against the sad day this one can't handle what I need anymore. I've narrowed it down to two Thinkpads, but I can't decide between them or see what the differences between them are. Perhaps someone here knows? The two are the Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E430 627156U and the Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E430 3254AEU. They both have 4 gigs of RAM and 500 gigs of Hard Drive space, though I think the 56U has a chiclet keyboard and the AEU has beveled. Does anyone know if the 56U has a full sized keyboard despite being chiclet? (I'm a writer, so the keyboard is a deal maker or breaker. It's also why I'm looking at 14" screens - all the 15.6" ones have that number pad and the keyboard shoved to the side. All I can see is that the keyboards are "Spill resistant", which doesn't tell me the size of the keys.)Does anyone have any knowledge of these two machines? Or even opinions on the two?

Answer:What's the difference? Thinkpad E430 56U vs Thinkpad E430 AEU

Hey there ChangelingChild,

I found this threadhere that may of be some interest to you. I see in the PSRef that both machines you are looking at come with a 6-row, spill resistant, multimedia FN keys keyboard. Where are you seeing a beveled keyboard? Generally they are island style/chiclet full sized keyboards. I'm certain some our E430 users should have some feedback as well.

E430: 6271-56U
i5-3210M(2.5Ghz), 4GB RAM, 500GB 7200rpm HD, 14in 1366x768 LCD, Intel HD 4000 Graphics, CDRW/DVDRW, 802.11bgn wireless,Bluetooth, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Fingerprint reader, Camera, 6c Li-Ion, Win7 Pro 64

E430: 3254-AEU
i5-2450M(2.5GHz), 4GB RAM,500GB 7200rpm HD,14in 1366x768 LCD,Intel HD 3000 Graphics,CDRW/DVDRW,Intel 802.11bgn wireless,Bluetooth,1Gb Ethernet,UltraNav,Fingerprint reader,Camera,6c Li-Ion,Win7 Pro 64

It looks like the Primary difference between the machines lay with the processor, it's compatibility with RAM modules, and the integrated graphics. The 3210M appears to out perform the 2450M but you will need to take a look at this and see for yourself of the impact to your day to day performance/usage. You can see more indepth information when looking at the PSRef and comparing the two.

I hope this provides some information to help guide you in your decision. Good Luck, and keep us posted on your progress.

Hi All, I just bought a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E430(3254-1B6) but I am not able to turn it on if I install the battery and even I am not able start it on direct power supply using the adaptor(After removing the battery). My Vendor told me to charge the battery for 12 hours. My vendor also told me that ThinkPad laptop does not start without battery. Please let me know what may be the actual problem with my laptop.

Answer:Not able to turn on Thinkpad E430

Hi, charankalcut

If the machine will not start when the AC adapter is plugged in with or without the battery, and there are no lights or sounds, then I think this system has a faulty systemboard.  One thing you can try is to remove the batter and the AC adapter from the machine and then hold down the power button for thirty seconds. This will remove all power from the machine. Once complete, put the battery back in, connect the AC adapter and try to turn it on again. If there are no lights, sounds, or other signs of power, then it sounds like a bad systemboard, in which case I would either contact the vendor or Lenovo support at 1800-3070-7555 or 1800-425-2666. Also, if plugged in, the system should be able to work without the battery.

Best,
Adam

Hello All,I have been using a thinkpad E430 series laptop. I am facing a strange problem. Intermittently, the mouse gets stuck and nothing works for some time. If I am listening to music, I hear a strong buzz sound. Hi, I've bought a brand new ThinkPad E430 (i3, 4 GB RAM) with Windows 8 64 bit preinstalled. While the machine works great (my only complaint is a short battery life - only 3 hours or so on "Balanced" plan with no serious tasks on), it doesn't want to connect to my Asus RT-G32 (Rev. B1) router (only B/G modes are supported). The router is 100% error free (I have several phones and computers on it and everything works fine), but my newest computer simply doesn't work with it. It does connect, but only "partly". Some websites work, but after a while, they stop working, and Gmail Talk and Skype, for example, never connect while on Wi-Fi (on cable, everything works flawlessly). I've tried just about every router setting (channels, wireless mode set to "54G only", changing from WPA to WPA2 login, etc.) and I've played with Win 8 cared settings (N mode disabled, only G mode enabled), but nothing seems to work for more than a few minutes. Now everything is back on default and I'm on cable again. Could somene please advise if there is anything else to try? Btw, I've connected the computer on N router at my girlfriends place, and it works good. It only refuses to work on my G router. Thanks and kind regards,Henrik

Answer:ThinkPad E430 - Can't Connect to a G Router

Hi, lemming2030

I would recommend to make sure that the drivers in your machine are up to date, particularly the wireless LAN and the BIOS. Having these updated may help your issue. All possible driver updates for your machine can be found here. You can use the dropdown menus to sort by device type and operating system to make searching faster.

Best of luck, and let me know how it goes
Adam

HiI own a Thinkpad E430(type 3254). It's about 14 months old. Yesterday, it randomly started having an issue with it's keyboard. It acts like the enter key is continuously pressed, and about 1 sec after I hit any other key it stops. The enter key by itself has stopped working, and only shorts sometimes and results in a continuous press. As soon as i boot, enter input is given and normal startup gets interrupted. If i press any key, it's normal again until an OS loads. For example, if i boot into debian, line breaks get inserted between the console messages that are displayed until i press a key, and if i boot windows, it gets stuck at the login screen because enter is given without the correct password so it loops. This behavior also happens sometimes randomly while working normally. The keyboard hasn't even seen heavy usage, or any drink spills. I usually keep the laptop at my desk, and use an external keyboard. The last time I took it out was 2 weeks ago.  Has anyone faced this issue before? I doubt it can be a software issue, so do I need a new keyboard? Thanks for the assistance.

Answer:Thinkpad E430 Keyboard Issue

ook so no one knows or no one bothered. anyway, i solved it and i'll leave it here.i called up lenovo's helpline, and they told me to remove ac power and the battery, and then keep the power button pressed for 2x30 seconds. Apparently, that drain static charge on the motherboard. That helped but only for a few minutes. Last night, i drained out the battery to 5% and now the issue is gone. I've recharged to 100% and the system is normal. I don't know what caused this, but it might have something to do with the lenovo power manager, which i recently installed.

My laptop thinkpad Edge e430 is not powering up. When I plug in the AC cord the LED indicator does not turn on. I have checked the AC adapter with the multimeter and it gives 20 volt output. So the AC adapter is fine.  The laptop also does not power on with a fully charged batter. I have removed the HDD, Memory, Optical drive and the CMOS battery and then pressed the power button for 30 seconds. The laptop does not wake up.  It is quite weird as the laptop should show some kind of error So i may have an idea what is happening.  Discussing with people on other forums gives me an idea that the power setup of the laptop is faulty. Can some body here guide me to what the problem is and how can i fix it?

I purchased the laptop in July 2012. From October 2013 onwards no display at times although there is power in the system. It happened intermittently. When there is display system performs perfect. Now for past 2 weeks there is no display although power is on. I am told that Graphics of NVidia in the particular model has some issue. Is it true? Since dispaly section is on motherboard the same has to be replaced. This is very costly as I have not gone for extened warranty.  I am totally confused, what is the solution?

Answer:Thinkpad E430 (3254D7Q) No display

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that display is not working properly in your Lenovo ThinkPad E430.

I would suggest you to perform Flee Power ? remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer. Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer. Put the system to sleep and check if it wakes up normally.

Try connecting to an external monitor and check if display comes properly in it. Swap the battery and AC adapter with a good known one if you can.

Please let me know the happenings!

Best regards,
Mithun.

This is my first post here, I'm new, don't know a ton about computers. Had a Toshiba for 4 years and it was horrible. Just opened my brand new ThinkPad E430 yesterday and did set-up. Ordered from Lenovo and had the following upgrades added:1) 500GB HDD (7200 rpm?)2) intel Core i5 3200 or 3210 something...3) 16GB mSATA SSD4) Has windows 75) 8GB RAMI'm not sure what else, just wanted this thing to be speedy, but have optimum battery life. Everything seems to be going alright, and this is only the 3rd time I've turned it on. But I notice the task manager says it's running like 130 processes at startup and right now it's running 112 and that's about where it stays. I don't know a lot, but I do know that's quite a bit more than my old desktop and previous laptop ran at any point. On average, it stays at 3% CPU and 33% Physical memory. My main concern is a solid balance between peak performance and battery life. My old computer took nearly 6 minutes to boot up and that is no joke. This will be used mainly for school work, no games, movies, etc. just a lot of typing on a lot of papers and frequent access to online databases I use for research information.  My question to those who can help...Is there something I can do to lower the number of processes? Somewhere I can go to on here to check/uncheck the things that run on start-up so they don't always come on and stay on when I never use them? Are there programs pre-loaded on here that are unnecessary that could clean ... Read more

Answer:New ThinkPad E430 - well over 100 processes running

Good day and welcome to the community.

I have routinely checked the Blackviper site for information regarding Windows services and processes, from XP through Win7. I haven't played around enough with Win8 in this respect yet, though.

Most all Windows-specific items are explained well, and recommendations for optimal / safe settings are given. Even if you choose to make no changes to your configuration, there is a wealth of information for general consumption contained there. Please note that you may not find information regarding OEM-specific services or processes. If you have questions on those, please post them in the Community and, hopefully, members will be able to offer useful advice.

Disclaimer: I am not connected with the site in any way. It has just been one of my go-to resources over the years.

Answer:Thinkpad E430 failed to power on

Not to be a Harbinger of ill-tidings, but this sounds similar to the wide-spread problems Lenovo had with the 420 and 520 series. I owned an Edge 520, which was subsequently replaced by lenovo with my current E530, after shipping the e520 machine to the service center in Tenn. 5 separate times. Rumor has it that the 420 and 520 suffered from a design flaw in their Systems-Board (Mother-Board), causing them to do-away with the 20's series and re-designing the Systems-Board of the 430 and 530 Series. I certainly hope that yours is an isolated case, and furthermore that it is easily remedied. This reply is basically an FYI, and I send it with hopes that when your system is repaired it never recurs. Every time I shut off my E520, I never knew if it would power-on the following day......fruhlpmd.......

Hi, I would like to buy a Lenovo Thinkpad. There are pretty good offers at the Outlet. I am not sure about the model that I should get. I am deciding between the L430 and the E430. While I have a preference for the L430, I have some concerns/questions: Regardless of the model choice, will a 14inch screen be enough for school and other stuff like watching movies? What are the advantages of the E430? Some models are priced higher than the L430. Background:I currently have a 15.6inch laptop. I think I want a smaller one as I need to carry my computer to school. The 15.6 inch is pretty heavy. However, I am very used to that format and a bit scared that a 14inch might be too small. E.g. if I work with Excel, Word, or Outlook. Although the L430 seems to be the more robust computer with the better specifications as compared to the E430, the L430 looks a bit old and it might not be as good as e.g. for watching movies. I want to use my computer both for school and free time. Thanks for your help! Yellow Squash

Hello, I just bought a new Lenovo Edge E430 laptop with intel i5 Ivy Bridge and I want to know how the battery must be formatted for the first time? How long it should stay plugged for a correctly charge and for working properly? The PC must be connected all the working time, or only when battery dies? Thank you.

Answer:Formatting the battery for ThinkPad E430

As with any Lithium Ion battery the best advice is to fully charge (100%) the battery first. Then use it at least once a month down to where the notebook will be forced into hibernation. Then fully charge it. Otherwise charge as needed. The problem is that if you don't do what I call a full drain/full charge your battery can develop early signs of not fully charging. Also it helps reset your battery meter to better estimate life. I use my E430 a lot on outlet power so I try and remember to sometimes work on battery for a while to do a full discharge and recharge.

Answer:ThinkPad E430 "Battery Not Installed"

Hi, syl4s

I did some research and found this thread that might be helpful. Another user had a similar issue, albeit with a different system. The solution that worked for this user was a power driver that needed updating. This links directly to the solution, though the entire thread has some good information. Updating the driver should work for you, but let me know just in case it doesn't.

The keyboard on my laptop will type any character i press for ever, wherever text can be entered. If i open up a browser, and the first thing i type is w it will keep going "wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww....." It does this with any key, that is a letter or a number. It does not stop unless i restart it. The only reason i typed this up is because i used a usb keyboard. It works fine unless i press any key on the laptop's keyboard.

The only thing I can think of, is try creating a new user and see if it happens there.  If it still does, make yourself a linux live cd, and see if it does it there.  If it does, then it is for sure the keyboard and warraty that sh*t!  If not it is software based, and you need to clean that computer!

It does appear that you have a good working knowledge of the Battery Reset Function.  But if all the steps are followed it should have resolved your issue.  I am listing the steps for resetting the Battery Gauge and I would like for you walk through the steps one more time.  If this does not work then we can look  a little deeper to find the issue.

Resetting the battery gauge
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/diagnose-and-fix/detail.page?DocID=HT003431#reset

After the battery firmware is updated, the full charge capacity will be reset to the battery's design capacity. Because of this, it is recommended that a battery fuel gauge reset be performed after the update is complete. This will update the full charge capacity to an accurate value. If this is not done, the battery may report a sudden drop in the estimates of remaining percentage and remaining time once the battery is nearly empty even after updating the firmware. To perform the fuel gauge reset:

Start Power Manager by double-clicking the fuel gauge displayed in the lower right portion of the screen.
Select Advanced in Switch to: view.
Click the Battery tab.
Click Battery maintenance.
Click Perform Reset.
Follow the instructions on the screen.

After the reset is complete, the battery gauge will be calibrated.
If Power Manager is not installed or no Battery Maintenance button is available in Power Manager, the battery gauge can be reset by the following instructions.

Hi, as I've said in my "WiFi" thread, I have a brand new Lenovo E430 (Intel Pentium i3, 500 GB HDD, 14" screen, 6 GB RAM - it was 4 GB, but I had a spare 2 GB 1066 lying aroundn so I've used it). It is advertisied everywhere, that these laptops have long batery life - from 6-8 hours. However, when I unplug mine, it shows only 3 hours left ("Balanced" power plan on Win 8 64 bit, brigtness set to lowestn and WiFi turned off). I'm now typing this message and downloading a 400 MB file, and it's already down to 91% or 2 hours and 40 minutes. I can accept that, but could just someone please verify that this is normal? If there are any other E430 users I would appreciate if you could share your experience with me. Thanks!

It depends, really. After debloating my windows my E430 gives me 5 hours of battery life on very light tasks (light browsing, light programs).

Recently I unistalled the Norton internet security that came with my E430, inorder to install one that I already had, and ever since I unistalled it, my lenovo solution center won't open.

Answer:ThinkPad E430 Solution Center problems.

Hi, MatinShaz360

Are you running the latest version of Lenovo Solution Center? If not, you can find that here. If that does not work, I would recommend uninstalling Lenovo Solution Center from your machine and then reinstalling it.

Best of luck. Let me know how it goes,Adam

Did you do a clearn windows installation? I was also facing this issue after a clean windows 7 install. I tried to skip as much of lenovo's bloatware as possible. But I figured I have to install lenovo power manager. After power manager was installed, battery not charging prbolem was gone. i do not like this software, and prefer the windows default power options instead. But I have to keep this installed for correct funcionaing of battery .

Hi,I am looking to buy a lenovo laptop with the intention of using it mostly for word/excel applications, internet browsing and skype, and basic multimedia tasks (online video streaming, movies). The laptop's emissions (noise/heat) are key for me and by looking online, the E335 version seemed to be praised for its very low emissions and its low price. The only drawback is that it has the AMD E2 2000 processor, which performs much lower than its intel i3 counterparts.I wanted to check for your experience with the emissions of the E335, and whether the weaker processor would play a role in the performance of the laptop for the basic tasks intended. Also, I wanted to ask whether choosing the E430 version with intel i3 and would result in any drawbacks in terms of emissions. Thanks!loukianos

Answer:Choice between ThinkPad Edge E335 and E430

Hello. This is all a matter of budget and taste, plain and simple. In my experience, the AMD mobile APU's simply aren'ton par with the performance of the Core-i processors, and even when running the same clock speed as theirIntel counterparts, they run hotter, sometimes much hotter. They are a budget option though, and as such I guessthey will do their job adequately. Here is a comparison for the AMD E2-2000 vs the Intel i3-3110M Ivy Bridge. AMD E2-2000 vs Intel Core i3-3110M The difference is vast when it comes to available features and performance, but the AMD uses much less power, but that will be very apparent in its performance and will be a huge factor in how long the machine will last for youbefore you need to update it. My 2 cents is always go with the Intel Core-i option. They are very energy efficient, specially since the Ivy Bridgearchitecture was introduced, and the smallest i3's really are a powerful option for a day-to-day machine. And themachines that come with them aren't so much more expensive than the AMD powered machines. Lastly, have you checked out the new E440 models? The Haswell line of Intel CPU's is much more energy efficientthan the earlier Ivy Bridge models. ThinkPad E440 Laptop Cheers!

Hello everyone, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E430 and it was working fine until today. Today I worked on the laptop as usual and just turned off the Fast Startup setting in the Windows 8 and then restarted the computer. Now it only shows a black screen (LCD backlights are on but there is nothing on the screen). I hear the usual BIOS beep sound but I can't see the BIOS screen or the Windows. I've tried to connect to a an external monitor via HDMI. Amazingly, both my laptop's screen and external monitor works fine when the laptop is connected to the external screen. But when I disconnect them, again I can only see the black screen. I turned on the Fast Startup settings in Windows 8, but it didn't work. Then I loaded the default settings from the BIOS and it didn't worked too. Finally I've installed Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS to test if it is because of the operating system but it didn't help too. I've tried all of this using the laptop's screen while it was connected to the external screen. It is very confusing for me. It seems like the screen is only working when an external screen is also connected to the laptop. I would be very happy if anyone can help me about this problem.

I purchased a Thinkpad E430 in May this year, personally. Generally I don't postreviews, but this product deserves it.First of all, as a developer, my reasons for purchase of the machine were to geta computer with a decent keyboard and build quality better than the generalconsumer products. I don't have many complaints with the keyboard. The mediakeys should not be activated by `fn` key instead of the function keys. Butconsidering the hardware and build quality, E430 fails miserably.I expected my E430 to hold up for a year at least, but it isn't designed forthat apparently. This is the case when it was not my primary computer, I spendabout 80% of my time on the office computer. The laptop just degrades whilesitting there it seems. It has been about 200 days and so far, there have been 3 hardware servicerequests processed on the machine: Dead pixels on screen, dysfunctionalmicrophone and then a broken case (probably because of the previous 2services). Plus there is the faulty BIOS, which issue(http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/Fn-key-legacy-mode-is-unreliable/td-p/865927)has been ever pending. All this was fine until a few days back, when I realized the screen hasdeveloped a permanent spot in the middle - because of the way the screen andkeyboard are placed. I haven't been able to find time to place another servicerequest. Plus the behaviour of the people at the lenovo center is just soterrible that I am reluctant to visit them.I have owned 4 laptops from other ... Read more

Answer:Thinkpad E430: Is this some kind of a practical joke?

Im described as a thinkpad evangalist but I too agree with this disregard for the brand. Having owned multiple thinkpads over the years its very obvious that there is no longer care for build quality and / or knowledge on the phone. My X230T was plaqued with simple issues and phone support was laughable - the bottom line is to never let lenovo service your machine but to keep trying to get them to send you a unit that isnt broken.  Ive had lenovo say things are warrentable one day and not the next. My brand new TPY arrived with the screen bezel popped off in the right hand corner - this isnt a warrentable issue!? and the laptop itselve is plagued with driver / sleep errors rending the trackpad frozen / disconnected for large periods of time. All these issues would be resolved if someone in the factory took 5 seconds to look at the machine, or support to atually note down the failures that we are telling them about over the phone rather than mockingly being told that the "head engineer" doesnt regard xxxxx as a failure.

So I just installed WIndows 8 on my e430, I have a few drivers missing which System Update cannot fix.

PCI Device (VEN_10EC DEV_4229)
Unknown Device

I had one more which I forget how it showed up, I found the driver which was the Intel Management Engine Interface.
Figured I'd start this thread to a) Help me and  b) help anyone else with an e430 installing Win 8.

The only think I've noticed that doesn't work is the fingerprint scanner.  Otherwise, it's not so obvious.

The PCI Device came up as Realtek PCIE Card Reader Driver for Windows 8 (64-bit) - Notebook

I however cannot get a download link for the file. It just doesn't appear in the support site.

**EDIT***Unknown device was Power Management.  Got that one done, all that's left is the Realtek card reader.

Found a copy of the last driver: http://drivers.softpedia.com/dyn-postdownload.php?p=177312&t=0&i=1

Hi everyone,About a year and a half ago I bought a ThinkPad Edge E430 and its been working fine, until last week when I got a terrible virus which really corrupted my computer. I've managed to remove the malware, but as a result the registry is still damaged. I cannot change folder options, my start menu is blank, all my files have been moved to a TEMP file among all these other issues. I've run multiple malware scanners and registry repair programs but these issues aren't resolving. So I'm thinking that I'll need to just reinstall windows 7, to completely repair the registry and ensure everything is back to normal. I've backed up all my files, but my concern is about the reinstallation itself. How could I do this when Windows 7 came preloaded onto the laptop, so I don't have the installation disk. And would the product key for windows 7 (found under the battery) definitely work a second time around?

Answer:Windows 7 reinstallation - ThinkPad Edge E430

Hi Cosmos29,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

We understood that your query is about reinstalling the Windows 7 OS on ThinkPad Edge E430.
When your computer is working normally, press the blue ThinkVantage button to launch the SimpleTap Program (for Windows 7) or the ThinkVantage Productivity Center program (for Windows XP and WindowsVista).

Note:
Depending on the date when your computer was manufactured, your computer might have the
Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox program preinstalled instead of the Simple Tap program or the ThinkVantage Productivity Centre program.

You also can use the ThinkVantage button to interrupt the start-up sequence of your computer and start the Rescue and Recovery workspace, which runs independently of the Windows operating system and is hidden from it. If the Windows operating system is not running properly, the Rescue and Recovery workspace can help you do the following:

? Get the current system information.
? Rescue a file from your Windows environment or restore back-up files, provided you have made backups
by use of the Rescue and Recovery program.
? Configure your computer or start the ThinkPad Setup.
To access the Rescue and Recovery workspace, turn on the computer; then, while the ?To interrupt normal start-up, press the blue ThinkVantage button? message is displayed at the lower-left of the screen, press the ThinkVantage button. The Rescue and Recovery screen opens. For additional information, see ?Us... Read more

Hey Syl4s,

Did you try running System Update and see if it can find your wireless driver update? I know you said you looked and downloaded drivers for your wireless device. I think you are still missing one and a good way to check is under device manager. If you look under networking you will see if any devices are missing drivers with what looks to be yellow triangle with a ! in the middle.

If you want to try to download the drivers for WAN only here is a link:

Hello everybody, this is my first post here as I just bought an Edge e430 from Lenovo. It came with Win 8 installed (let's skip this) and as I tried to connect to the LAN for verifying the license I realized that I did not have any network connection. No way to connect, no matter what I clicked and what I switched on/off.... no connection (even the local one). As I am a Linux user, after figuring out how to boot from CD I tried Linux on a Live CD to see whether it was a Win 8 issue or a card one. No connection there too. Trying to set up here and there I think I grasped the problem, however I does not make any sense to me. Is it possible that the new model is IPv6 only (with no IPv4 retrocompatibility). If this is the case (I repeat: it doesn't make sense) what should I do to make it working, at least in Win 8? Thank you very much for your time. P.S. Forgot to say that I don't have any WiFi to try.

Answer:Thinkpad edge e430 ethernet problem

Ok, I see no reply but I keep updating the problem. I took the pc to work, connected the cable and.... tada! Connection working! I am actually posting it from the Linux live CD. The question is, why my home LAN isn't working??? I used it for over one year and had (at least) 5 different laptops connected without the smallest glitch. Any ideas?

Hi, I recently bought some Thinkpad EDGE E430 and E530 for my company. But one of them, at the first boot, instead of showing the first time Windows setup wizard it booted to Windows login with an already defined user named 'obe' and it ask for a password. I can't enter to Windows. I have tried to make 'factory settings' for resintalling Windows but the System Recovery Options always ask me for the password of 'obe' user. I called Lenovo support and the agent told me to use another E430 to produce a recovery DVD, so I made it (because I bought more E430 in the same order), but is the same, always asking for the password. Please see the picture. I need to give the laptop to one of my employees, he is goint to travel this next weekend and he need to take this laptop to the trip.

Answer:New Thinkpad Edge E430 came with a Windows user and cannot login (who is 'obe' ???)

welcome to the community. press F1 when the first splash screen appears to get into bios. make sure that the cd/dvd drive is listed first in the boot order (or usb cd/dvd, if your machine doesn't have an internal). then put the recovery dvd in the drive and reboot the machine. it should load the recovery process from the dvd, rather than any hdd partition, and allow you to recover/reimage the machine. please post back if this doesn't work or if you have further ?s. cheers.

Hello to all, new one here to the forum. Well, title says it all... At first I think it was a problem with the way Linux suspends the machine, but now I realize it happens too when I suspend from Windows (I have dual boot with Windows 7 and Linux Mint 17 actually). It started making it sometimes, not always, but now always happens: I suspend, close the lid and put the notebook on my bag. Hours or even minutes later, when I want to use it again and open the lid, its shuts off right at that very moment. If I suspend and 2 minutes later resume with the notebook still on the table, everything goes fine... so I suspect it may be a time thing or bad contact with the battery, but really don't know. I'm reticent to bring it to tech service because of several reasons, so I want to share this and hope to hear if someone had the same problem and how fixed it, if it can be fixed. Oh, and sorry for my perhaps strange english, I'm argentinian.

Hi, I recently bought a 300Mbps Wireless N Router (TP-Link TL-WR841ND), but I only get 72 Mbps speed on my Thinkpad E430 laptop. As far as I read, the 1x1 11b/g/n Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter only supports speeds up to 150 Mbps (which would still be ok with me), but instead I get 72 Mbps. I tried to tweak the adapter and router settings, but I had no luck. Do I need to change the Wireless adapter? Is it possible to change it, or should I use an external USB Wireless adapter instead? Thank you!

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E430 Wireless speed only 72Mbps

Hi Tudorc,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I would suggest you to check if any other similar device is able to achieve better speeds.

Log to the router's configuration utility by typing its IP address into a browser and change the encryption settings to WPA2 Encryption Only. Choose 40MHz-wide channels in the router?s configuration utility.

Since you are using a 1x1 single-stream card, so a max of 150Mbps is theoretically said to achieve. In addition, you are only on the 2.4GHz band, which is often congested, so you may see lower speeds. The disparity between theoretical and practical Wi-Fi performance comes from network protocol overhead, radio interference, physical obstructions on the line of sight between devices, and distance between devices. Under ideal conditions, actual results for a wireless adapter rated at 150Mbps is perhaps in the range of 50-80Mbps.

Hope this provided enough clarity for your query!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hello! So I have a Lenovo laptop Thinkpad Edge E430. AVG Safe Search wanted to restart the laptop (I can't remember why, but probably just to make sure everything was okay).I did, and now when I turn the computer on normally, I get nothing but a black screen with a mouse, instead of the user icons.I can run it in Safe Mode, but I'd really like to be able to use my laptop normally, since a lot of things don't work in Safe Mode.Any ideas?(Thank you so much!!)

What is the benefit of a 16 GB Micro Solid State Drive, Serial ATA3 besides the regular HD..?

Answer:ThinkPad Edge E430 with Micro Hard Drive..?

the 16 gigs mSATA will be used as a large cache for the regular HD, much like what Intel Turbo memory was, but it will have better algorithms applied to predict usage pattern.

Hi!I recently upgraded my ThinkPad Edge E430 OS from Windows 7 to Windows 8 using Lenovo's recovery Discs. Now on USB 3.0 ports I am getting USB 2.0 transfer speed of around 30 MBps. Device manager shows that there is Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller driver installed. Still I am getting USB 2.0 data transfer rate on USB 3.0 ports with USB 3.0 hard drives and pen drives. Can you give suggestions about how can I get USB 3.0 data transfer speed back?

Hi I had ordered a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E430. First, delivery was delayed by 1 week later when I checked the machine, mouse pad and track pad were not working. I tried reinstalling drivers, checked BIOS settings. There was no mention of Mouse & TrackPad in Control Panel. Atlast, I raised a case with Lenovo customer care.  It has been almost 2 weeks, nothing is moving. Any time I call, same response they arr investigating the root cause. I am fed up with this service. I would suggest to others please think twice before falling into Lenovo trap. -Amit

Dear All,   My Lenovo E430 notebook's battery automatically drained to 96%(even if Battery was fully charged to 100%) and then power on with  AC after 4 hours . After one day later, the battery dropped to 94%. So I sent it  to Lenovo service center, and the battery was replaced by new one.  But it seemed that battery drain symphom was not to fix, the new battery also drained again after 7 days( the case was same as the original one). I don't know why, does the battery of E430 model have the battery problem ?   Who can help me, PLEASE ? VERY TROUBLE !

Answer:E430 Thinkpad - Battery drain automatically even if unit is powered off.

Hi, Sunnyleung

Lenovo power manager gives users the power to change their battery threshold settings. The battery threshold determines at what percentage of battery life the battery will stop and resume charging. For example, a user wants to have their battery charge only when life is 50% or below. If the user plugs in their computer and the battery life is greater than 50%, then the battery will not charge. This may be your issue, and I firstly recommend making sure the settings in power manager are correct. Here are the steps to do that:

Start Power Manager by double-clicking the fuel gauge displayed in the lower right portion of the screen.
Select Advanced in Switch to: view.
Click the Battery tab.
Click Battery maintenance.
Click Perform Reset.
Follow the instructions on the screen.

After the reset is complete, the battery gauge will be calibrated. If Power Manager is not installed or no Battery Maintenance button is available in Power Manager, the battery gauge can be reset by the following instructions.

Charge the battery to 100%.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the computer.
Discharge the battery until 5% or less of the battery charge is remaining. It is okay to let the critical battery action hibernate or shutdown the system.
Connect the AC adapter. The full charge capacity value will update when the AC adapter is connected.

Try these steps and see if that helps your issue, a... Read more

I'm looking to get a larger hard drive for my Thinkpad Edge E430, and I have two questions. The current drive is a Toshiba MK5061GSY - SATA 300. It's 0.4 inches high. I'm looking at a WD Green WD20NPVX - SATA 600. It's 0.6inches high. What size is the HDD bay? Will a drive that's 0.6 inches high fit?Is a SATA 600 drive backwards compatible with a SATA 300 port? Thanks.

Answer:Size of hard drive bay for Thinkpad Edge E430? and SATA 300 vs 600

Ivy Bridge CPU in the E430 supports SATAIII (6 Gb/s) for the main hdd and optical drive bay. The height of the E430 hdd bay is suitable for 7 and 9.5 mm (not sure what that equates to in inches).

The recent BIOS update (version 2.54) which has been released to fix fan issues with the system, does not have a corresponding Bootable CD available. I need to upgrade my computer's BIOS but doing that from a Windows partition is not possible as I do not use that OS. The update download page (http://support.lenovo.com/en_IN/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS033264&rss=true#) links to an older version BIOS Bootable disk update. Is there a way through with I can obtain a Bootable version of the flashing utility. There is no option.  The batteries on 3rd gen core processor-based machines (like yours) are different from the older ones.  The older ones are the same shape, but they don't work.

Have never faced this issue with any machine. slows down even when i try to do mouse right click to refresh screen. If possible pls replace this faulty machine. Vendor was pretty rude when asked them to help as if they know about performance of this product in advance. Please provide a fix as soon as possible as now its getting really frustratiing .. each week there is a new unknown issue. Feel like have wasted my hard earned money on a so called business series laptop.

Hi, I was wandering about replacing my current cpu with something more powerful. I-3110m is ok but, i'm doing some work in Matlab and Solidworks, and sometimes my cpu chokes. The only thing that stops me from buying new cpu is heating of new cpu. i3-3110m is 35W TDP, so as i7-3612/32QM but they are incredibly hard to find in good prices. on the other hand there is i7-3610Qm which is easily found but runs on 45W TDP. Question is: How much hotter can my laptop get? Maybe someone has E430 with i7-3610qm?

I bought a Sony SRS-X7 Blutooth speaker to get rid of the cables. The device works perfectly with several other devices: iphone, blackberry, an Asus tablet, but i havn't been able to make it work with my laptop.I was able to add the device. Was founded and recogniced by the laptop, but when almost finishing the process appears a message "Configuring bluetooth services" and stays there. I've tried to wait, even from one day to another, and the message remains there. After forcing to close this message window, the speakers figure between the bluetooth devices, but when trying to connect an "error establishing connection" message appears.I've tried to install the other driver available on the support site (an intel, this one is a Broadcom) with no results.Appreciate your help, as i'm seriusly thinking (don't want to) on replace the laptop. Best regards.

I read through the manual and am confident that I can take apart the machine, replace the cracked screen and put it back together. I replaced hinges in my old HP and a motherboard in my friends HP. My father was able to get me a great deal on this machine I have now. I put in some extra ram and a 32gb SSD for RapidBoot and I'm pretty much in love. I take great care of it but had an accident and dropped/cracked the screen.

The laptop was ordered custom so its a bit more of a challenge to find specific information on what the part #'s are. The laptop has working microphones but was not purchased with a webcam which I regret. I would like to replace the LCD panel and install an integrated camera in one fell swoop.

My questions are: What model number of LCD panel so I need. What model number of camera do I need. And lastly, will I need to purchase a new LCD cable that has the ability to plug into the camera? Or does my current LCD cable have a lone male cable plug waiting for a camera?

Machine Type: 3254
Serial #: xxxxxxx
CPU: i5-3210
HDD: 7200rpm 320gb
Came with 4gb of RAM

Thanks so much! Any advice here would be appreciated

Hey there thiyagarajaner,

I believe you are using the ThinkPad 11b/g/n 1x1 WiFi card. Have you tried using the System Update Tool? This typically will instal the drivers that match your system. Hope this helps.

As an alternative there is also this driver, that may work in the even that the one from Broadcom does not.

I've had this Thinkpad Edge E430 since 2012 and have loved it, but recently I've been having a problem with it. In order to start it up I have to start it at least twice, and now it seems that the AC adapter must be plugged in for it to start. What will happen the first time or when it's just running on the battery is that the red indicator light will turn on, and I will hear the fan and the harddrive start up, but the screen will remain black and the computer will not respond to anything. When I have it plugged in and try the second time, it will start up no problem, and there doesn't seem to be any response issues once the laptop is up and running. I thought it might be a battery problem, but it has the same start up issues when I took out the batter and just had the AC adapter plugged in. Any ideas what this might be?

Since my last post, I have contacted Intel support who have stated the following in relation to Intel(R) Manageability Engine Firmware Recovery Agent version 1.0.0.35342. "Please note that the version 1.0.0.35342 is provided exclusively by Lenovo, and it is not available as a generic version in our site since it is an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) product. I would recommend contacting Lenovo and ask for a higher level, they might be able to provide access to their software or a way to safely remove it from your system." "This product is OEM and does not have a generic equivalent that can be downloaded from our website. Also note that we recommend contacting Lenovo since they are the ones that may determine the degree in which this software was integrated in their Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Operating System  image and if the software can be removed or not without causing problems in your computer." "Thank you again for contacting Intel Technical Support. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Does anyone have the expertise to advise on this problem or the solution?

Hello,

I planned a fresh clean install of Win 7 Pro 64 bits in my Tecra R840 after receiving the new Plextor M5Pro ssd! Since, after the BSOD last week, I have no apps (office, photoshop, etc..that I had before) in it, I'm doing experiments (untill I will receive the ne ssd).
I work in a institution where I've access to a original copy of Win 7 Pro 64 bit for installation in my personal computer! So I tried it...! After the installation my laptop was "unrecognizable"! I mean the screen was low res, etc! So I needed to install all the drivers one by one (that I have in my portable hdd, after download one by one...from the toshiba support site), etc! And I needed to download SP1 update too! Ok, all this to say that it is not an easy task (for me). Of course I could go to a "pc clinic" and they will do the job ($$).
So, afterall it seems that will go the easy way: since I have the recovery discs for my laptop (I made the 5 dvds when I bought the laptop) why not:
1- install the ssd,
2- update the firmware and then
3- make an "factory clean" install of everything?

I already experiment this 3 hours ago, after the aformentioned fresh install of win 7! And everything went just fine and at this momente I have my laptop with everything installed like 6 months ago when I bought it!

So...about the bloatware! What is it (I'm from portugal..!) ?
It is true that the rescue disks installed a lot of stuff that I did not want (macafee, bbc something, etc...... Read more

Answer:Bloatware...what is it?

Everything you need is here to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

The bloatware is sponsor's crapware that makers install to reduce their costs, and useless duplicate utilities that have better versions built into Win7 and may throttle it.

If you have software that came preinstalled on the PC that you need then check the model's SUpport Downloads webpage to see if it's available for reinstall. You may also have an Apps and Drivers disk that offers a menu to select just the software/drivers you want. But I would use more a recent version if it is on the Downloads page, especially for drivers.

If there is some software that forces you to run Factory Recovery instead of getting the superior Clean Reinstall then you can approximate it by following these steps to Clean Up Factory Bloatware

Question: MBR and Bloatware.

Hi,

I have a new laptop from HP and I want to get rid of the Bloatware and have a clean install from scratch on the main partition (1 of 2).

Problem is that there MBR has code in it to recognise F11 key press to initiate recovery from the recovery partition (2 of 2).

How do I backup the MBR, identify the part that denotes the f11 part and splice it back onto the new MBR after the clean install of win7 using the OEM key on laptop.

Question: HP Bloatware...

Hello, does anyone know how to permanently remove HP mobile data protection sensor, i.e. hpdskflt.sys? I uninstall it in the device manager and it seems to reappear all the time.

Thanks for your input.

Answer:HP Bloatware...

Hi Micahl88 and welcome to the Forum. Usually when you delete something like this in Device manager it will reinstall itself the next time you boot. Instead of deleting it, try to just Disable it.
By the way, have you Googled "HP mobile data protection sensor" and do you know what it is for?

I did a factory reset of my 2 year old Acer AM3400-U2502 Desktop, with Windows 7 Premium. Giving this computer to my father.....anyway, after the reset, I'm trying to cleanup some of the unnecessary programs off the hard drive.

But sometimes I'm just not sure what items are necessary for functioning of the computer, or programs might need later, etc. Should I leave all these Microsoft programs? The Acer programs? I'm never sure........So I figure I'll just ask here.

So if this was your new computer, looking at this list, what would YOU get rid of right now off this machine. Maybe list what you definitely wouldn't need and other items might/might not need.

For the record, I added Firefox, Chrome, and Avast myself.

Thanks for advice.

Answer:What would you consider Bloatware?

Avast is bloatware!

All kidding aside. I'd call Microsoft Works bloatware if you aren't going to use it...it's kinda a bit useless anyway. I'd replace it with OpenOffice if you don't have a full copy of Microsoft Office. Which also means you could get rid of the Office Activation Assistant if you aren't going to use it (I see you have Home and Student, but do you have the activation for it?). Anything Windows Live if you aren't using it. MyWinLocker should go. Acer games or arcade deluxe if you aren't going to use them. Acer screensaver...I don't even know why you would need that. Same with welcome center, don't think you need that for operation. Registration is up to you, if you're registering it or not. Acrobat.com isn't needed.

Other than that, I'd remove Silverlight if it was my machine, but I don't have a use for it, others might.

Second thing If I have USB drive for my laptop containing the factory image , can I re-install it if I don't like my clean installation that I will do ??!

Answer:Getting rid of bloatware

You can download the latest windows 10 boot from dvdor usb install it would be wise to get all the drivers for your pc first in case it doesnt find all of them you can restore form the factory image ok Download Windows 10

Question: Bloatware

I finally received my Dell Laptop. It came with little bloatware and I am very surprised with it. So far it works flawless. However, the bloatware that it did come with, I would like to know if I should remove it.

The following is the list of bloatware:

1.) CyberLink Media Suite Essentials
2.) proDAD Adorage 3.0

Should I delete these 2 items?

Answer:Bloatware

Those are two packages that are pretty pricey to buy outright!
I would play around with them first to see if you may use them in the future.

I deleted a Cyberlink package ('bloatware') from a PC of mine years ago and often wished I hadn't.

Question: Bloatware

As we all know, new Pc's come with a lot of bloatware that we will never use. Is Decrap My Computer a safe program or would another free program work better. Thanks in advance for your usual great responses.

Question: Bloatware?

New term to me. What is it? How do I learn if I have it? My HP machine is same age as 1st official release of Windows 7 64bit Home Prem. Have added a lot of 3rd party apps, some light (MPC, Winamp, Rocketdock, etc.) some heavy (Photoshop, Autocad), overall runs ok.

-thnx

Answer:Bloatware?

Bloatware is unneeded and unnecessary software added to the OS by system manufacturers such as Dell and HP etc.

Question: What is bloatware

There is often a mention of so called "Bloatware" the comes with OEM installation. But what is bloatware as per your definition - I am sure we will get as many definitions as we get posting.

1. Let me first tell you what i consider as bloatware and what I delete immediately:

1.1. All games - I never use any
1.2. Adobe PDF reader - I use Foxit
1.3. MS Works - I use Office
1.4. MS Anytime Upgrade - I do never intend to upgrade
1.5. Anything Google or Yahoo - I really don't need that
1.6. Napster or any other music stuff - I have my own music
1.7. Anything .lnk - I can find my own links

2. Then there is a second category which may or may not be bloatware.

2.1. McAfee definitely - but not Norton Internet Security for which I have a key (for 3 systems) that is still valid for half a lifetime.
2.2. Some OEM tools that keep popping up all the time asking you to do this or that. But some other (quiet) tools can be quite useful.
2.3. MS Office for those who do not use it. For me it is handy because I only have to insert my product key.

I always put myself into the shoes of someone who buys his/her first PC. I think they are well served with a working AV program - even if it is only for 3 months, a PDF reader because they would not know what that is and where to find one or an Office 3 months trial - at least they can get an idea what that is all about.

And finally, all those programs only take some disk space which is not a big deal these days. It gets a bit more... Read more

Answer:What is bloatware

1) Same as above
2) All "Trialware", and anything else that nags me to upgrade
3) Utilities of any kind. I have my own favorites by now and use them instead.

Only bought two computers in my life. My first one, and the laptop I purchased for school last fall. Built all the rest.
